Restaurant review

By jamespat2015 |

We had a Groupon for this restaurant and enjoyed our dinner very much, They offer a varied Mediterranean spread covering rice dishes, fish, chicken, items I can't spell, soft drinks and a couple of items for dessert. The main entree was a choice of Tilapia or lamb shank...both were very ample and we were allowed to take the lamb home for later. The price, even with a Groupon was reasonable for the amount and quality of the food.

Disappointing

By pnkgirl27 |

I was so excited to see that there was a Dimassi's location in San Antonio after falling in love with their food at the Austin location last month. Wow, I don't mean to compare but hard not to considering it is the same menu, website and business. The experience was very disappointing, the food was not up to the standards as I had anticipated. The pita bread was old & hard so there was nothing to eat the hummus with. There was no kabob meat at all! No cabbage, no beef shank, no desserts except for some dried up bars or cookies (?). The falafel was old & overcooked. The sodas were flat and the tea was powdered flavored, not freshly brewed. None of the food seemed fresh, even what they were putting out to replace the old,(which they didn't seem to do much of). Part of the kitchen could be seen from where we sat & it was just piled high with dishes. None of the employees seemed to be in a hurry to do much of anything including the cashier who was busy on his phone watching movies or something with the volume up. We went on a Sunday at 5pm and paid $13 each, it was a waste of our time and money. Honesty, the price for that food/service would not even be justifiable at even $7. I don't want to sound mean because I love love love their location in Austin. Perhaps one day this restaurant can lift their quality to meet their sister stores standards. Fingers crossed.

Fantastic food

Food was great. Service was above average. I’d recommend this to anyone wanting to have a good meal in a good clean place.

Wide selection buffet

By WonderingTroubadour |

This is a very spacious restaurant, kid and adult friendly. The buffet was fresh and looked yummy! Baba ganoush, tabouli, shredded meat (a little spicy), kofta, lentil soups (not very salty - perfect), spinach in garlic sauce, fish and much more. Fresh pita bread, and falafel. Dessert: Baklava, and rice pudding (so tasty). I was full because the food tasted great and I wanted more. The kids ate well also. Great parking, but I hear it gets full, so try to get there early. The lamb shank is only available after 4pm or only on week ends. Enjoy.

Disappointing!!

Food was bland and poorer quality than the Dimassi restaurants in Houston. Also had fewer choices on the buffet. This was the 2nd time we tried this restaurant. Won't be back to this location.

Authentic Mediterranean food

By Ruben L |

I loved the one in Houston and they just opened one in San Antonio. My favorite dish is their lentil rice and the fried cauliflower. They have falafel, eggplant, Greek salad, tabouli, kabobs, pita bread. The place is very clean and the food is superb!

Undoubtedly the worst place I have ever eaten.

By Tammy T |

If you like paying $16 for non-eatable chicken legs and thighs then you by all means. Don’t forget to eat some of the cooked dry rice and some of the things that say they are chicken wings but look like maybe they are chopped beef but taste more like ground liver. One bite of that and I had to leave. Most unfriendly atmosphere you walk in seat yourself and get your own food and drink and pay when you leave. No smile how are you was everything ok? Nothing just pay for the nasty garbage you just tried. Don’t do it🤮🤮🤮not even good dog or cat food.

Surprisingly good for a buffet

By travelerjessicas |

I was surprised at how much I liked this place! Tons of Middle Eastern options to choose from with hummus, bread and makluba that was as good as homemade. Plenty of vegetarian-friendly choices as well as a variety of meat on the buffet and lamb shank if you requested it from the kitchen. The price was great, especially considering it's "all you can eat." I'm pretty sure the young men in our group easily plowed through 3-4 plates of food each. I'd definitely go back.

Nice variety with average flavor

By Travelingcoloratura |

For the price and variety to choose from, this is a very good place to eat. The food is fresh and good. I am used to a little richer flavor in my Middle Eastern cuisine. The employees who work here are very friendly and attentive to their customers. I will definitely return here again.

Really great buffet!

By facedoc |

I was visiting the medical center and took a walk and found this place. What a find! I was really impressed with the quality of the food. Lots of choices (they even have lamb shanks included if you ask—how do they do that for $13??). Literally everything I tried was delicious. Honestly one of the best buffets I’ve ever had. Yes, they could be better at bussing the tables, but everyone was very nice.

Mediterranean Buffet - Well Done

By Stephen K |

Stopped in for lunch with some colleagues who live in the area. Apparently the place has re-opened from a former owner. The large restaurant was open, bright and friendly with plenty of tables. Everything is buffet, so you prepay and have at it. I sampled a bit of everything and it was all well prepared and flavorful. I particularly liked the shredded beef which I served over some rice. The buffet was nice as I didn't have to make to many choices about what to sample.

Excellent food, great variety, and unbeatable price.

I picked this establishment at random after a few busy work days where we ate fast food on the run. Nice find! Great location on the edge of a residential district, but easily accessed from the interstate. It's a buffet, but unlike any I've ever experienced. Interesting variety of middle-eastern food (I am a novice) and it was all good and hot. I'll keep it on my list for lunch prior to those mid-afternoon flights from San Antonio.

Three for one: first, last, and never again

By Connie C |

food on the buffet line looked like it had been sitting for hours. Temperature of hot dishes was not hot enough for safety. Sign at cash register: lamb shanks after 4pm. most of the food was bland although the spicy vegetables, grilled eggplant, and red lentil soup were good. fried chicken was tasteless. had to ask for fresh coffee to be made.

I wasn't impressed.

By LeiaMichelle |

First off the restaurant is very pretty and appears to be clean. However the buffet itself left a lot to be desired. The food was blah. It was bland and boring. The falafel was hard and dry. The hummus was bland. The meats were dried out and cold. I am glad we went on a groupon because if we had paid full price I would have been really upset. We won't be back. Next time I have a hankering for Mediterranean food I will go to Pasha or Darna down the road.

Lamb shank ok. Soup ok. Nothing else was very good. Mostly it was hot enough expect for the soup. Restaurant was clean . No one spoke to you. One girl cleaning tables. Outside entrance wasnt clean.

Really Enjoyed the Experience

By travelkng |

First time visiting this buffet and really enjoyed it. Took the whole family and everyone found really good items to eat. Everything is self-service from the buffet line to the drinks and dessert. If you dine in for dinner or all day on weekends, be sure to ask for the lamb shank. It was great. Will need to try this one again!

Blah Blah Good Blah and Baklava

By Laura O |

Most of the food is very bland and over cooked. Some dishes is very good like the lamb, gyro meat, and a few others so I liked other my daughter liked. But was disappointed after reading the reviews. Place is nice. It was a shame the food was so blah. Baklava is very good. We won't go back as it is pricey for the quality.

Something even for a vegetarian

By Robert F |

Wow, look at the mixed reviews. If you like Mediterranean food, I think this is the place to come. It’s not easy to find, however, sitting back on a side street from Fredricksburg Road. The falafel is wonderful. I don’t eat meat and still had plenty to satisfy me. I could get my money’s worth on the desserts along. If you know the secret, you can ask for a lamb shank. Plan on serving several people. They don’t put them out on the line. Also, if you rave about the food and ask, they may give you a to-go container and let you take a little home with you. While there is some beef, mostly the dishes have chicken. And there is also fish (Tilapia). As with all buffets, they have the salads first, hoping you will fill up on the cheap stuff. I always start about the middle of the line.

Great Middle Eastern Food Buffet!

By mkh143ek7 |

Lots to chose from, even can order some items not on buffet individually that are included in the buffet price. Price is a little high but worth it as the selection is large and the food is good. You seat yourselves and serve yourselves (drinks and all, around the corner from the buffet, drinks included in buffet price also). Once full, go to the counter to pay. Nice people, clean! Can't wait to go back!

Very good

By zoopa25 |

Nice atmosphere, super clean and fresh verity food, loved the salad bar full of healthy choices and main dishes, kabobs, chicken kabob, fish and many more. Baklava and sweets for dessert! There was also pizza, I guess for the kids, I didn't touch it😀. Definitely worth the money and long drive!

Went to try with a Groupon as I read the Austin reviews. It was delicious...the meats, rice, sauces, vegetables, falafel all were amazing! I'll be back!

Clean, compact and nice place for Mediterranean food

By YatriForever |

We were in Medical Drive on work and were looking for Mediterranean cuisine and ended up being here, this was just about 5 minutes drive. The place was clean and well kept, we were here for the dinner. I liked the Hummus and falafel, the pita bread was bit stale. Overall, this is a good dining option near I10.

Unique experience for my wife and I

By Eric D |

My wife and I like to try new things and this was certainly new for us. We've had Greek (American) and Italian (true Italian) as well as many other types of food. This place was a surprisingly different type of cuisine for us. It seems to be more Turkish or Arab influenced (I'm guessing). The humus was cream, nearly liquid and somewhat bland. In fact, most of the food aside from the meats were pretty bland, which actually works in the foods favor as it allows you to taste the true flavors and add seasoning to your personal liking. Everything in the buffet was pretty good and as others have said, the liquidy cucumber salad was delicious. I enjoyed but wasn't sure what to think of that humus and the incredibly hard naan or flatbread. The baklava was insanely good and in and of itself worth the trip. Another big plus, this is the only buffet we've ever been to where drinks AND coffee were included in the price! I'm going to have to take my tastebuds back for more just because they weren't quite sure what was going on; but it was pleasant! I know this review is confusing, but for us it aligns with the experience. Can't wait to try the adventure again (and save a LOT of room for that baklava).

My wife doesn't like Mediterranean food, but she likes this buffet

By BBTX |

This buffet (all you can eat) provides an attractive, fresh and delicious array of foods from the Mediterranean, including Greece. On request, fried fish and baked lamb shank are also available as part of the basic buffet price (which also includes drink and wonderful desserts). My wife loves their fried chicken, so there is something for everyone. All my friends tell me that the falafel is the best they have ever had. Seniors get a discount.

Very different

By arlyn1 |

I visited this restaurant because of the groupon available. It was an interesting experience. First of all, the dining area is very nice and clean. Lots of windows to give you an outdoor feel. The buffet is large and well stocked. Lots of different types of rice and potatoes. Unfortunately their pita bread was very dry and hard. The red lentil and spinach soup was good. My only draw back was that the spices used were so different from what I am used to.

Just average

By Doctor_Possum |

It's been over a year since I last ate at DiMassi's and wasn't too impressed. Recently, a few friends told me they had improved, so off to lunch I went. Well, in reality, nothing much has changed. The food is okay. That's all--okay. I'm fully aware that buffets are notorious for changing from day to day; perhaps it was just a so-so day for them. I began with my go-to favorites: Hummus, Baba Ghanouge and dolmas. I read that some reviewers didn't like the hummus. It's Jerusalem-style--very smooth (almost a whipped consistency) and thinner than usual. This was my breakfast every morning in Jerusalem; plus the hummus there is served warm. It's not what Westerners expect, so I can see it being off-putting for some. For me, it was fine. The Baba Ghanouge and dolmas were very good. The Baba had the correct smokey flavor and the dolmas were delicate with a hint of lemon--very nice. Try some of their garlic sauce for the dolmas--just be sure you really like garlic! The pitas were fresh from the oven and tasty. I also tried a rice dish with chicken and eggplant, falafel, kafta, mustard chicken, shredded beef, eggplant with pomegranate molasses, and mixed vegetables. The standouts were the rice dish and the eggplant with pomegranate molasses, although the latter is somewhat of an acquired taste. The rest--again, just so-so. No off flavors but nothing that would make me return. For dessert there was harissa (also spelled harisa or haresa) made from semolina and cream-filled baklava. The harissa was flavorful but a bit too dry for my taste; having it with a sip of coffee improved it greatly. But the gem was the baklava. This isn't a layered baklava as is normally expected but phyllo dough encasing pastry cream with a sweet glaze. I think I could have eaten the whole tray! I don't know if they are available without purchasing a meal but if so, run, don't walk, and grab some! A word about service, mostly echoing other reviewers--it's non-existent. You get your own food, silverware and drinks--I don't mind that. But neither was the table bused even once. Oh well, can't have everything. For a novice of Mediterranean food, DiMassi's may be a good place to start if for nothing more than the variety. But for the more discerning palate, I think not.

Disappointing compared to other locations

By L J |

My husband and I have eaten at the locations in both Dallas and Houston, which are awesome. We brought our family from San Antonio to this location, telling them how amazing this chain was and how much variety they had. Unfortunately, this location had far less variety, & the food just wasn't on par with the other locations. There was only one long buffet table, compared to two at the other locations. The pita bread was cold, even after they had just put out a new batch. The biggest disappointment was the baklava, which was totally different than what they had at the other locations, although the still called it baklava. It was all gooey in the middle instead of flaky, with very little flavor. The other locations had multiple types of hummus, and this one just had only one kind, which did not even taste good to me. While some of the food was still good, this was a real letdown. I will definitely be avoiding this location in the future.

Attentive Service Joined by Superb Seasoning

By Rubén Z |

I just returned to my office from Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet. The meal that I had was excellent because of the quality ingredients and the attention to details. All the plates were superb bi I especially liked the lentil soup, the cucumber and yogurt salad and the beef with onion cubes. The fried chicken was done just right and the pita bread was fresh from the oven. One can drink coffee, tea, or soft drinks to one's delight. The desserts and pastries are light and fluffy. Throughout our time tlhere my colleague and I had clean plates and very helpful assistance from the staff. All in all, this is a place to which I will return!

Levant Delight!

By J C |

What a great surprise! The food is fresh and delicious. Having only traveled near the area, as far as Greece and Turkey, their food is every bit as good as anything from that area. We had the buffet which included a lot of choices, including lamb shanks. Their are many sauces and different spices to choose from which will rival your favorite spices. The bread was warm and very good. The place is very clean and everyone was nice. We noticed a number of different languages being spoken by the patrons and workers, so it is home to not only a spectrum of foods, but also people from the Eastern Mediterranean area. Go and surprise yourself with the many varied flavors. We will return.
