Wish it was closer to home!

We have been to Din Ho too many times to count, celebrated birthdays with large groups, taken friends to experience some of the best authentic Chinese food in Austin and eaten by ourselves numerous times, I just wish it was closer to home. The Chinese BBQ is hands down the best in Austin. They have an area for pick-up on your left as you enter the restaurant, just beyond the window of hanging BBQ items (like a New York Chinese restaurant in Chinatown). They do a very brisk take-out service, and you can get the BBQ meats you want to go. Most of their items are a nice size for sharing and if you have a larger group they have several large tables with the revolving table that makes it almost fun to share. They have great Chinese staples and vegetable choices along with their Chinese BBQ and seafood items. My personal favorites are the BBQ pork, Orange Beef or Chicken, Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce and Sauteed Chinese Broccoli. Their menu is huge and almost anyone should be able to find something they like here even if you are not a huge Chinese food eater. Their fried rice, egg drop soup and wonton soup varieties are a good choice for that timid Chinese food eater. Now if they would only open one near us...

Delicious food, but attention is not their thing

By ioram |

Hello hello. The receptionist spoke Spanish, but the waiters did not allow her to explain more to us than what she recommends eating. The dishes were delicious, but I think the portion sizes were not correct. All the staff shouting almost all the time and it's not pleasant. We requested a menu to review more options since we were hungry and the tide did not move from there and we asked for more time and I think he became desperate because he requested that we return the menu.

Surprisingly authentic

By SirisManila |

I have always been a sceptic about eating at a Chinese restaurant in North America since I have easy access to these dishes in Asia. My mother who resides in San Antonio insisted we find a good Chinese restaurant in Austin during our visit. We checked Tripadvisor and found this restaurant. We were a family of 4 adults and a child. We ordered the sizzling scallops (which was a hit and it came with plain rice, $12), 1 whole Beijing duck (boneless compared to the regular bbq duck which was worth it, $30), and the lobster fried rice (absolutely yummy, $40). We were satisfied with all our orders and the servings were big. We got to take home some duck and fried rice which was still good even the day after. We only spent approx. $110 for this meal. This restaurant is good value for money specially if you are a big group.

Greedy Restaurant

By achingtoe83 |

This place charges for lemons on tea refills and also for more hot oil sauce for your meal. After, I told them I would deduct those fees from their tip they told us we wouldn't be served. We gladly left and will never return. Awful experience.

Authentic Chinese food in Austin

By grotshops |

At the recommendation of a friend, we visited Din Ho recently and were very pleased at the quality and quantity of food. The vegetable dish we ordered, water spinach, was outstanding, as was the mixed seafood platter. The Chinese barbecue was also good, as was the hot and sour soup. Portions are large and on our visit the service was very prompt.

Great!

By Haylie S |

The food is great and a little different than it is in Missouri. Prices are a little high but it was worth every bite.

Very popular, great food

By k5tm |

This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, though we often do take out rather than dine in. Just about everything that we have tried has been very good. We normally tend to the spicy entrees, rather than the BBQ, but this is really a matter of our preference. We have had the BBQ and is quite good. There are several noodle selections that have been excellent. Last night we kept to our spicy chicken and beef selections and were not disappointed. This is a very, very popular restaurant so be prepared to wait on weekend evenings. I have seen this restaurant crowded right up to closing time.

Chinese restaurant with barbeque

By virstud |

The servings of the foods are big, so make sure to order only foods that you can finish. The place is little bit old and worn out but service is good. Wide variety of Chinese foods priced reasonably good. Oh and make sure to read your fortune cookies after the dinner !!!

Delicious

By sweet_cyanide_23 |

After reading the reviews I really wanted to eat here, so we went for lunch today. I have to say, I was not disappointed one bit! I ordered the General Tao's chicken, since it's my "test" for restaurants haha. It's my favorite dish and I find that the places that can make it right, are the ones that are really good. Any way, it was kind of sweet but there was a squeeze bottle of garlic chili sauce on the table. It was spicy, but not enough for me. So it actually worked out in the end :) My fiance ordered the BBQ pork and it was also really good. Very tender and had pretty good flavor. We ordered some egg rolls, and they were almost as good as my favorite egg rolls from a restaurant in my home town. They had a lighter flavor, which was nice. Our service was pretty good, and we didn't have to wait long at all for our food. The atmosphere was surprisingly nice, as from the outside it looks plain. We will definitely be making this a regular stop on our trips to Austin.

Best Chinese in Austin, TX

By 1st_WorldCitizen |

Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen in Austin, TX but Din Ho was the most authentic that I've been to so far. Ann and I needed one of those big round banquet tables to accommodate our orders. This is what we had: Stir Fried Seafood Combo with House Special Sauce Shrimp, scallops, squid, rolled fish balls, and crab meat wok-fried with XO sauce and spices (spicy) Pepper Steak Chow with Black Bean Sauce Slices of marinated steak stir fried with flat rice noodles sauteed in a rich black bean sauce Combination Pan Fried Noodle (or Lo Mein) Stir fried egg noodles with BBQ pork, beef, shrimp (extra), and vegetables And of course, a big bowl of steamed white rice. Everything went very well with the Tsingtao beer. I shall without a doubt return.

They have some great seafood here. Get the Peking/Beijing duck and some BBQ pork. Jonathon also pointed out the "Fresh and Dried Squid" but order it with only the Fresh Squid and it's great. Large portions, good prices, and never dissapointing. You don't go to a place like this for 5 star table service, but the waiter's are quick and the food comes fast.

the best chinese restaurant in town!

By zc88 |

awesome place. still crowded even at 9pm. the roast duck and bbq is really crispy. got to try it. you womt be disappointed!

Delicious Food. Priced High IMO.

By CharlieinTexas |

Food delivery. Duck, chicken and broccoli, egg drop soup, and white rice. The duck was tender and delicious. Chicken and broccoli had lots of chicken and was very tasty. Lots of egg in the rich, full-bodied egg drop soup. White rice cooked well, not overly sticky. The food gets an A++. Excellent! $60 before the tip $10+ too much IMO for these items and portion size. See photos. But, y’all may feel otherwise.

Good Chinese Food

By dwgibbs |

Extensive menu featuring Chinese barbeque and duck. We had two excellent pork dishes, the fried pork chop and the Garlic Pork. We had the potstickers as an appetizer and they were just average. Service was good. We'll go back and we recommend giving it a try!

Can't do better than the Din Ho

By Michael P |

The Din Ho has been a long time favorite. The food is always freshly prepared and the staff is friendly and attentive. No doubt that the Din Ho is the best Chinese restaurant in Central Texas, and beyond!!

My FAVORITE Chinese restaurant in Austin Texas!

By austintomtraveler |

Hong Kong specialties and a LOT more. BBQ pork is out of this world! In fact, just about EVERYTHING ON THE MENU is out of this world! If you love Chinese food, EAT HERE. That's all that needs to be said.

I've been missing out

By Antoine L |

Without a doubt, the best Chinese food I've had in Austin thus far. The meat was tender and delicious and the sauce was excellent. The portions were generous and they didn't skimp on the rice. I went on a Sunday evening and the wait was probably 5 minutes. The customer service was pretty good. I had my primary server, the manager and another server come to my table to take my order and refill my drink. I'm not sure if it's common practice, but right when you walk in there was a table on the right with a list where you write your name and how many are in your party. They will call you name based off that list. This will definitely be my go to place for Chinese so I can try their other dishes.

Authentic Chinese BBQ--Excellent Service

By SabrinaC411 |

Just enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Din Ho. The hot and sour soup bowl is huge and the flavors are spot on! Also enjoyed the water spinach and the curry chicken. The sauce on the sesame beef was extremely good, and the meat was very tender and lean. Service was attentive and the employees we interacted with were very kind.

Pretty good eats

By Doodah G |

My cousin and I ordered the Prawns with Special Salt (delicious! Be forewarned that the prawns are fried with the shells on, so if you're not used to eating shrimp that way, it may be off-putting...I enjoyed it and tell myself the shells add crunch and extra calcium to my diet), the Sauteed Chinese Broccoli with Garlic (YUM!) and a trio of proteins: char sieu, roasted pork, and roasted duck (typical Asian protein that you'd get at any Asian restaurant). It was really busy when we arrived and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, but it wasn't that bad. Just so you know, you're getting typical non-American style service where they deliver your food at different times so you could wait a while between your sides and your main proteins (they need to be slapped on the wrist for this, though, our side arrived WAY in advance, then our shrimp finally arrived...then it took forever and us having to side-eye the waitress before we finally had our mixed protein platter). The food was good, the service was subpar.

Best Chinese in Austin

Amazing business lunch. Standard American Chinese fare with the addition of crazy authentic Chinese dishes as well. Wonderful duck. Great noodle dishes. We will return.

Good Chinese BBQ

By LjGarcia |

This was near our hotel so we decided to give it a try. The BBQ platter with pork, chicken, and duck is not bad at all. It is definitely a lot of food. My wife had the beef with Chinese vegetables and it was pretty good. The veggies were crisp, not soggy and they had a good flavor. The place was rocking on a Saturday. Parking lot was full but there are a lot of Asian markets and restaurants in that strip. The menu is pretty extensive so you have plenty to choose from. Everyone was nice and checked up on us a good amount of times.

Favorite Chinese Place To Eat

By Nathan |

Din Ho is one of my favorite places to eat. I went there after high school graduation and college graduation! I love the Beijing Duck, and BBQ pork. The pork is done traditional Chinese style (Xa Xiu / Char Siu). They have large round tables for big parties with lazy susans in the middle to help serve food family style. They have both very traditional Chinese food like clay pot, chinese bbq etc., and "americanese" favorites like General Tso.

Amazing food, mediocre service

By Jerald M |

I had lunch at Din Ho today with a buddy, and the food was amazing! I started with a large bowl of wonton soup with 12 wontons, each with two shrimp- WONDERFUL! My buddy got both hot and sour soup and egg drop soup, mixing them together and having a tremendous amount to take home. I tasted both of his soups and they were well seasoned, quite tasty. He then had a shrimp dish and, I had General Tso's chicken which I guage all Chinese restaurants by. It was as good as I have ever had, and the portions were huge. The only let down was the service with food coming out slowly and not together and with our glasses staying empty until we flagged down another waitress. Because of the quality of the food, I will be back

We have been enjoying Din Ho for 24 years. The food, staff and owners are exceptional! You won’t be disappointed!

We have been eating at Din Ho for 24 years. We have celebrated family events , made memories and enjoyed great food. Thanks!

Among the best Chinese Food I've tried in the USA.

By Nacho_A |

I like this place, the food is authentic, so authentic that if I was able to speak Chinese probably I could extract better value and even more tasty things at this place. They have roasted duck and I dont think it is the best thing on the menu; but any of their freshly prepared dishes are tasty, warm and abundant. I recommend it for authentic Chinese food, probably has a touch of Cantonese influence.

Try the Bar-B-Que...

By texascinzia |

This restaurant is authentic Cantonese, Southern Chinese. Excellent BBQ and I guess that's why it's called Din Ho Chinese BBQ! I've tried the Sechuan and Peking dishes and they are mediocre at best. I lived in China for more than 3 years so I have a pretty good idea of "real" Chinese.

Authentic

By livelovex7 |

still one of our favorite family places to go to for authentic chinese food! just wished it was a bigger place on certain nights since it gets packed but the food never disappoints even though the wait staff sometimes does..always get the beef and chinese vegetable and crunchy lomein for the kids-family faves

LIkely the best Chinese food in Austin, but that's relative.

By Chris S |

So I've probably been to Din Ho 50 times maybe. Dine in, carry out. It's always good and we usually order too much. I don't hand our 5 star reviews often, and usually base them on value, quality of food, and whether I'd want to come back. I've had chinese food in many places, including Taiwan and China. (Honestly, I feel that much of that chinese food stinks and is not tasty, but that's for another story). THis stuff is pretty darn good. I'm sure my palette is rather simple. Not too spicy so probably not szechuan, not shanghainese, not taiwanese (pig ears are gross), so probably general chinese if thats thing. Not to oily and heavy and not too light. I do love the snow pea leaves, the hot and sour soup, the fried pork chops and many of the common chinese items like beef and broccoli, twice cooked/garlic pork, etc. Sure, Austin has a good number of tasty places for Ramen, Vietnamese, a few korean, and many noodle places, but I think this is a great staple in Austin. 5 stars for you!

Din Ho Chinese BBQ

By Jennifer L |

We went there for dinner in the Labor Day weekend. Restaurant was crowded although it was around 9:30pm. The roasted duck was ok, char xiu was kinda dry. Wonton noodle soup was good. The Shrimps with walnut n maionaise was great. Big portions! Price was fairly right. Will definitely come back again..

Great food...service somewhat lacking

By MICHAEL D |

Food experience was amazing. Service was lacking throughout the meal. Only plus side was the 'water' boy who was very attentive but wasn't able to get our server in gear to take our order in timely manner. Seemed to have 1 or 2 people actually taking orders. Place was packed and many were looking around for waiters. When we did get a server she wasn't the friendliest person around, seemed like she wanted to be elsewhere.....but the food was amazing when it arrived.

Fantastic Chinese BBQ

By Joshua B |

Wonderful Chinese BBQ. Great flavors! Best wonton soup, could have s full pot of it. The food was perfecto seasoned very delicious. Food arrived at the table very fast. Portions were large. A must return place.

Amazing!

By Tania |

Din Ho is by far one of the BEST Chinese Restaurants I've been too since I moved to TX. I am from NY and find it difficult to find pure authentic Chinese food in this area. The quality & freshness of the food is outstanding! Prices are very reasonable for the portion (family sharing). Food came out quickly.we had combination rice, lo-mein and BBQ. Would come back again.

Like Sunday dinner with a Chinese family...

By Itinerant_scholar |

Madame and I thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Din Ho on a recent rainy Sunday evening. Even though we arrived early -- around 6:15 -- the place was busy, and we were lucky to get a table because quite a few who arrived shortly after us had to wait for ten or fifteen minutes. (They don't do reservations for parties smaller than six, but there's a sign-in sheet on a table near the door). The crowd is young, on the whole, and diverse -- a cross-section of all Austin -- and the cooking is the real deal. We had a pork-and-duck combination BBQ plate and a serving of chicken with garlic sauce; along with that we enjoyed pickled cabbage (strongly recommended!), fried wontons, and fried rice. Each dish was absolutely delicious, and before we were halfway through dinner we were already scheming about a return visit. The emphasis is on taste and textures, not flash -- dishes are certainly professionally done and presented but the main thing in Din Ho's kitchen is that they be GOOD, and they really are. We really had the sense that we were being treated to very high-end home cooking, if that's not a contradiction, and we left the place thoroughly satisfied. Service is quick but well-paced, with friendly young people handling the crowds expertly. Prices are moderate -- particularly for the wines, of which there is a good short list -- and servings generous, which meant that for a really easy price we were able to take the next day's lunch home with us, in the form of leftovers. Parking is plentiful out front -- the restaurant is in a small strip-mall shopping center, just north off the Hwy 183 access road, which it shares with the Hong Kong Supermarket and a good Indian restaurant as well. MC and Visa accepted (no AMEX); getting there early is a really good idea. I know we will, when we go back...

Taste of great Chinese

By Neem_neem |

Big fan of Din Ho. Very yummy Chinese food, although they dont have dimsums on their menu. But try their sauteed bokchoy, pan fried noodles and seabass in special salt, and you'll be hooked. Bursting with flavour, their quantities are pretty good too. Great place for a family dinner or lunch!

Lousy service. Best damn Chinese food ever.

Great Cantonese

By 1st_WorldCitizen |

When I moved to Austin 11 years ago, I discovered Din Ho and whenever I am in the mood for Chow Fun, I can rest assured that Owner Jackie and her team will be there to offer customer satisfaction and Cantonese culinary delights beyond measure. I love the decor and one small detail, beautiful printed menus, no QR codes to scan. I wanted to order a cup of Egg Drop soup but was told that it was only sold by the bowl so I only ordered the Combination Chow Fun, flat rice noodles stir fried with BBQ pork, beef, shrimp, and vegetables (mushroom, broccoli, bok choy), which was absolutely delicious with chunks of the BBQ Pork, Beef, and medium sized Shrimp. And for digestive purposes only, I consumed a Sapporo Reserve beer. Unfortunately they no longer serve cups of soup, only the large bowls so I can only give this visit 4 stars.

Authentic Chinese Food in Austin

By Shanghyper |

Living in Shanghai, we have a real appreciation of authentic Chinese food, and Din Ho is by far the best we've come across outside of China. We've been going to dinner there for years, usually with a group, but often just as a couple, and it's always top notch. We love the food (our favorite dish is the walnut shrimp) and atmosphere. The owner, Stephanie, is very friendly, bringing us hot tea and chitchat, and will often have her chef make us up something special when we come to visit. I can't recommend highly enough!

A really nice Chinese Resturant

By Kent S |

My favorite Chinese Resturant in Austin. It’s all good, I like wonton - BBQ pork noodles for lunch. The deep fried tofu is to die for.

Quite authentic chinese food

Food taste good and portion is generous. Service is also attentive and good. Very nice place for comfort food.

Orange chicken, roasted duck!

By Anak S |

Din Ho Chinese BBQ orange chicken is tasty. Reasonable price, provide roasted duck, not easy to find around here. Stir fry snow pea leaves is also nice.

Din WOW

By Hank956 |

A must eat. Recommended by a co-worker from Brownsville. Thank you Minh for your EXCEPTIONAL service, recommendations and attentiveness. You made our visit truly exceptional. Large menu and only one stomach.... Started with a duck wonton soup, so full of flavor. We shared a seafood greenbeans and shrimp and duck fried rice. We struggled to finish but were full, not stuffed but very full. Will be back for a whole Peking Duck to take home.

Traditional Chinese Dishes for Labor Day Activities

By Lauren V |

The location was out of the way for me, but in the end was well worth the drive. Food went above and beyond in the flavor category! So Yummy, and that's saying a lot, I'm not usually a fan of Chinese food period! Very large portions, so either come hungry and expect to take your leftovers home or bring friends. All meals are served family style and you get sticky white rice as an additional bonus with anything ordered, which was excellent! Also, Neapolitan Fortune Cookies with the check. I'll be back!

Some of the Best Chinese Food

By Jeffrey B |

I have eaten here a number of times over the last couple of years and I have to say it is some of the best Chinese food I have found in the states and outside of Hong Kong or Taipei. Very good and very authentic. Take a large group if you can, so you can try more than a couple of dishes. Definitely do some BBQ.

By saigon75 |

a real crowd pleaser -- all the authentic chinese food to appease discriminating ethnic taste buds and novices alike. my husband and i come frequently and find them to be fast, efficient, tasty and reasonably priced. i highly recommend it!

Good first impression

By monica_k840 |

Went with my husband based upon the reviews on Trip advisor. With just the two of us, we could only sample two items, the egg drop soup, and the chow fun. The soup was rich and flavorful, and the portion was at least one quart! The beef chow fun was among the very best I have ever had. Can't wait to go again with more people! The price is very reasonable. The decor is nothing to brag about. The service was as expected for an authentic Chinese restaurant.

Over rated

By Eliza R |

We found this is best rated Chinese restaurant in Austin, so I went there with my boyfriend when we were travelling in Taxes. We ordered stir-fry seafood and vegetable dishes. The taste was OK, the price's kind of expensive base on the amont and the quality of the food, it is definitely not a "that good". Btw, the waitress are cold.

Traditional Chinese BBQ

By Sivan M |

The restaurant is always crowded and their menu has varying meats and sides. The staff is very nice and helpful for when it comes to making decisions. They also cater, which includes BBQ and even a whole roasted pig.

Austin in a weekend

By Ian N |

Wow... if you are looking for very authentic Chinese food in Austin ...this is the place. We dined with a large party and found the food and service to be excellent even although the place was packed.

Nasty food

By lovehutto |

They gave us nasty/old foods, but charged so much money for it. Two years before that wasn't bad at all. We won't come back there any more, no.......no thanks, even free foods, because we don't want to eat dog foods again.

Real deal.

By Snakehandler666 |

One of only 2 Chinese restaurants in Austin! Feels like NYC or SF. Guy up front hacking up hog and duck carcasses. Full of Chinese customers and servers. Authentic. Delicious Chinese BBQ. Antithesis of PF Chang's.

No one goes away hungry!

By KANDILAKE |

We enjoyed a 7 course Chinese meal for a wedding rehearsal dinner venue for 50 plus people here. All courses were served family style with a center rotating island. They served most sides with rice on this night. Seating was tight for this size of group. No one went away hungry!

Good food for sure

By mrjo84 |

this was a great place to go when we were in town. It was recommended by some friends so we decided to go. The menu is very large and hard to understand but that could be because we are not professional Chinese eaters. Service was a little slow to be honest and when we asked the server to explain some items you can tell he had no time to do so but the food made up for it. They definitely give you what you pay for. Over all great experience and wouldn't mind going back.

Great authentic Chinese BBQ and fantastic dishes. The food is delicious and very nicely plated. Great variety of dishes. One of the best places for wonderful Chinese BBQ. The food comes to the table very fast, hot and freshly prepared. A must visit and enjoy cuisine.

Very very rude service

By Runzi |

This restaurant has the most terrible service I have experienced ever. We are a 10 people group with kids. We walked in and joined the wairing list with a big table. The waiter told us we need to wait for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, we asked the waiter politely if we can split to two tables to save some time. Then we were told, "NO, you cannot split, but you can just GO." We we're surprised and said "we don't want to go and we never mentioned we want to leave." Then the manager very rudely told us: "We don't want to serve you. Please leave!" They we're so rude to customer even in front of little kids. I cannot imagine the service is as bad as this way. They just force us to leave.

The real deal in Chinese food in Austin

By psittacid |

Great food. You need to go with other people and share, as dishes do not come with extras like vegetables. Our favorites include Singapore style noodles, wonton soup (the best in town - each wonton has a shrimp and pork), snow pea leaves, beef flat noodles with satay sauce, sizzling prawns.

Din Ho Chinese BBQ

By L&B |

Being Chinese and having lived in Asia awhile...I missed good Cantonese dining. Friends told us about Din Ho (which translates to "truly good") and how locals (meaning many Austin Asians) regularly dined here must mean something! Din Ho was outstanding! They have daily specials written on their board in Chinese characters for those who can read it and for those who can't. Menu is extensive and guaranteed to satisfy everyone's palate. If you like crab, go for the salt & pepper tempura fried Dungeness crab...yum! Pretty close to the famous crab dish at San Francisco's R&G Chinese Restaurant! Order the Orange Beef...a winner! Another thing that made Din Ho so cool is that they have roast duck, roast side of pig (with the wonderful skin cracklins) delicious BBQ pork (chasu), etc.. No wonder it's gotten great reviews for the best Chinese BBQ in Austin. Now I don't have to go all the way to Houston to get these delicacies. Stephanie, the manage is the best and has a great staff working with her.

Great fun but not so friendly service

By M J |

I ate lunch with 5 of my coworkers at Din Ho Chinese BBQ. All the food was great. The service was fast as well. Our waitress was borderline rude. She kept hitting me in the arm with the dishes as she put the food in the center of the table and while she removed the empty plates. I need to sit against the wall next time.

One of the Best

By travelspud |

I eat only good, authentic Chinese food (my spouse is Chinese and I’ve traveled to China too many times). Din Ho’s is definitely one of the best, authentic Chinese restaurants (Cantonese style) and I always stop at this eatery when in Austin. It’s also a good sign when at least half the patrons are of Asian descent and speaking Mandarin.

Din Ho Hooks you in!

By Larry1466 |

Whether it was eggplant with chicken spicy, bbq combination, sweet/sour soup, or beef chow fun--- everything tasted like you were in Canton Province. Very authentic!

Quick and Delicious

By Ok Connie L |

Meet a friend for lunch and he recommended this place. Ordered duck and roast pork which came out in the blink of an eye. Also ordered a mixed vermicelli dish that was very good. Portions are big and can be shared. No need for everyone to get an entree. Service was very quick and efficient though no smiles. Big menu selection. Would go back.

Ok 4th try and still horrible service food was luke warm and charge for fried rice.

By konikowski |

This place i have tried 4 times now i must say thats it, No more last time i got the peking duck and it was rock hard. I asked the waitress to try it she said no way. Charges me for extra coke then tried to charge me for fried rice. Never again. This place has so many reviews that are good and its the only reason i tried it 4 times. I am a dummy never again. Do not go here at all its a waste.

Authentic Chinese

By Imeldita22 |

I love this restaurant. Very reasonable prices, the roasted duck has so much flavor, bbq pork was delicious and lo mein is just as good. I had a great experience especially that the food was quickly served and hot. Will definitely come back here again! This is not the typical American chinese a la carte restaurant that I'm used to, in fact the flavor reminds me of authentic Chinese restaurants that I'm used to eating at in Manila Philippines, ran by the Chinese. Very different style of cooking! It's too bad I live 1 1/2 hour away from here, if not, I will definitely come here everyday until I've tried every single item on the menu.

Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing!

By 12erin |

VERY GOOD CHINESE FOOD! Beijing duck was very well prepared and delicious, and the general tao's was the best I have ever had (and I have been eating that dish at Chinese restaurants for years). The restaurant was packed (it was a rainy Friday night) but service was phenomenal. We were well cared for and well fed! We sat near the kitchen and could see all the dishes coming out --- everything looked amazing, we will definitely be back to try other menu items.

I want to give this place a really good review...but their service & food quality just isn't consistent. Its very hit or miss when I go- & I've been coming here for about 10 years. But even with their mistakes- its still one of the better chinese restaurants in austin.

It is NOT good to be a Monopoly Provider

By uppertexside |

Best Chinese atmosphere in Austin. Anyplace with 20 dead ducks hanging in the windows has got to be a winner right? Food is excellent and volume is high so always fresh. HOWEVER, service is horrible at times. I've had better on a bad day in Kowloon. I'm totally cool with waiting 1 1/2 hour for a table. On February 21st there were not enough waiters and tables were not being bussed for 30 minutes while people waited. It was a joke. The owner was out bussing tables it got so bad. That it is Chinese New Year and employees may be out is NOT an excuse for not being staffed. Downgraded from 5 to 4 stars. Sometimes love must be tough.

Busy restaurant, tasty food and sloppy waitress

By wwtraveler2010 |

Decided to try this Asian eatery due to relatively positive review online. It's located next to a small Asian supermarket, and it's crowded. Upon arrival, the place is in a chaotic situation with bunch of confused customers jammed the entrance. Once we are seated, you have to wave down someone walking by to serve you. Then, it took 30-min or so before my 1st dish is served after complained. The taste of the dish is decent despite I almost lost my appetite after the long wait.

Glad to find it

By HouMSW |

It's difficult to find good Asian food in Austin, so when this place was recommended, we headed over there. Granted, it's sometimes unfair to judge a place on the basis of two lunches, but they were excellent, and we were pleased. I would say it lacks a bit in excitement, both in menu selections and in nuance, but I would happily return to try more of the menu.

Excellent Chinese restaurant in Austin

By NickInChina1 |

If you are looking for a huge menu, great Chinese food, and good service -- check out the Din Ho. The place is not easy to find (unless you have a GPS and their address) but just look for the Target on 183 and/or the Hong Kong Supermarket in that area. The menu is very large - so you should be able to find plenty of great options to dine on. The lobster stir-fry is great. And so are the various greens stir-fried as well. If you speak Chinese - you can also practice your skills - added bonus - the staff will help you do so and is more than ready to speak with you

Rude staff and terrible experience

By ChrisLuck |

I have lived in Atlanta, Boston and NYC and recently moved to Austin. I have ate at Chinese BBQ spots across the US. Din Ho Chinese BBQ is by far worst restaurant in my memory. We ordered one combo fried rice to go, which took half hour. While we were waiting, I asked for2 pounds of roast pork hanging by the window and the waitress kept insisting that we can only get the left over in the bin. When we asked again if we can just get the one hanging on the shelf. She rudely said NO, you could buy the ones in the bin or GO and walked away to the kitchen. Never been treated this bad for trying to order at a restaurant. LONG WAIT TIME. RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL !!!

Fast take out, duck and pork

By meandersfun |

Fast take out, a bit pricey. We had half a bejing duck and bbq combo. Ok, but i prefer the pancakes to the buns for the duck. The pork was very good (and i don't like pork), but the duck was not crispy enough, i have had better. They seemed to also do a lot of seafood.

A new favorite

By RhetoricalTool |

I've raved in the past about First Chinese BBQ in the China Center on North Lamar, but I think I have a new favorite after my sister suggested Din Ho. The biggest reason is the duck. Nobody does Duck like the Chinese and this duck blew me away, Never had such crispy skin, tender meat, really outstanding. We also had the Chinese broccoli, again to compare it to First Chinese, not garlicky like FC, but cooked perfectly. Roast pork was delicious, the "crispy" skin was actually, crunchy and sometimes hard to even break up with my teeth - but the meat was great. We also got beef with crispy noodles and orange chicken, both were very tasty. The menu is huge, but not nearly as big as First Chinese Barbecue - especially missing the wide variety of vegetable and tofu dishes that I enjoy at FC. I see several reviews here that complain about the service. We were there early Sunday afternoon, quite crowded. The waitress was efficient, not overly friendly, but I'm not sure how fluent her English was, so I can't fault her for that. The duck came out last, probably more than 10 minutes after all the other food, to the point that I was starting to wonder if they'd forgotten it.

Amazing Beijing Duck

By Jakemarsh33 |

The best Beijing duck, roast pork and amazing marinated meats. If you like your Barbeque then Ding Ho delivers. Very tender and succulent meats with the most amazing sauce and marinades. Also enjoyed the Sea Cucumbers.

Variety of dishes and best roasted duck/BBQ pork

By Sheila W |

One of the first Chinese restaurants which served more "authentic" Chinese dishes I grew up with. They have roasted ducks, chickens and BBQ pork hanging at the window. (like in SF Chinatown) They have several large round tables which are perfect for a banquet. Fresh seafood.

Food is Amazing! Love it here...

I'm a native Austinite and Din Ho is so good that when I last visited Hong Kong I said that the food in Hong Kong tastes like Din Ho. I love this restaurant!

Hit the mark of authentic Chinese food.

By Cruisediva60 |

Very Impressed! We were visiting Austin from San Antonio and had a craving for good Chinese food. Did a Yelp and Trip advisor research, drove over and the line was outside to door. We waited 30 mins and it was well worth the wait. I had the Seafood platter, it came out sizzling hot, the egg rolls were fresh, crisp and delicious. Hubby had the seafood combo and we ordered shrimp fried rice to share. Everything was very good but the shrimp fried rice was taken to another level, its not just fried rice add soy sauce, theirs is actually seasoned. It's a simple dish but I'm a fanatic about a well prepared fried rice and Din Ho knows how it impress. The Hostess runs the place in decent order, our waiter was friendly and prompt. This place was supper busy but when in Austin, I'll definitely return again.

This place was awful. Everything was very tasteless. I dragged my poor friend here because a foodie friend gave it a glowing recommendation and we both thought it was awful. I had the pork BBQ and she had noodles with pork BBQ. Maybe if you're looking for authentic, but not for my tastes.

Authentic Chinese Food

By SabrinaC411 |

We went for dinner on a busy Sunday night and had a very nice evening. We were seated immediately and our drinks were delivered promptly. The restaurant had a "busy" atmosphere...lots of take out orders being filled as well as everyone seated seemed to be well taken care of. Our favorites were the hot and sour soup, water spinach, and the curry chicken.

My blacklist restaurant.

By Ming L |

Went to the restaurant with my whole family. Order 5 entrees and 1 soup. All entrees were like left over, tasteless and not even warm. Service was equally bad. Will never go again.

MMMMMMMBBQ PORK

By sheila f |

This is a great place to go with a group of friends. The big round tables and easygoing atmosphere lend to free flowing conversation. The BBQ pork is delicious and succulent, and my main reason for eating there. The pork fried rice is also pretty good.

probably the most authentic chinese menu...not my favorite place, though.

Chinese BBQ as good as the best in Hong Kong!

By BritBoyInGA |

Don't be fooled by the outside of this place, or it's location. If you are in search of superb roast duck/pork get to Din Ho, you will not be disappointed. Extremely authentic & very reasonable prices. Din Ho = BBQ done right :)

Great Chinese BBQ.

By Evergreeeeen |

BBQ pork and marinated chicken are great! Came to this place twice in a week staying in Austin. BBQ duck was average I think.

Tasty and generous

By Pavupapri |

Authentic Chinese. The restaurant has large tables with a rotating plateau designed to facilitate to sharing of dishes among guest. Food was excellent and at excellent value, 1 meal can easily feed 2 or 3 people. Very fast service. Much recommended.

Excellent Chinese Foods, Fast & Efficient Service & Affordable Prices.

By GhenTravelbug |

When in Austin and you love Chinese foods, Din Ho is the place to go. The foods were freshly cooked, delicious, and efficiently served in no time. The price is right, too, which merited the 5-star rating from me.

Excellent Chinese Food, Good Prices, Big Portions

By Neil C |

Most of the time I have people come in from out of town I take them here. You can sit at a round table and have everyone order family style and the portions are so big that everyone will get some of everyone else's without having to worry about it. I recommend their traditional dishes like General Tso, Orange Chicken, and Mongolian Beef. If you are ordering alone, the Sizzling Beef plate is really good too.

Worst food on this planet horrible service also

By konikowski |

First off This is the first bad review ever on tripadvisor, As i am a level 7 senior reviewer with over 200 reviews. I walked in sat down and the waiter stood over me for over 5 minutes asking what do you want to eat. Weird i know, Then i finally ordered the chicken tau i asked if it came with fried rice he was so short and kirt NOOOO thats a whole seperate meal he said. So I asked if it came with soup or egg roll he rolled his eyes noooooo. So i ordered my food with white rice whitch i do not like so im paying for something i do not like. It came out cold the rice which was supposed to be white was grey also cold. I will never go here again. Steer clear of this place horrible service and horrible food.

Greasy food

By FunnyCowgirl |

I stopped there for some BBQ pork. Yuck!!! Their BBQ pork was so greasy, more fat than meat. I had to throw away half of the portion bought. I asked if the BBQ was fresh from today. The lady gave me a long lecture about how they don't sell old meat and that they have been in business for a long time. It turned out the meat WAS from the day before, just cooked again to make it seemed fresh.

Great Chinese Food!

The food here is wonderful! We love the BBQ duck and the other offerings are good too. It can be hectic and take awhile to get your food when they are really busy though. Be patient, it's worth it.

Real Good, Real Hong Kong Style

By SEAVOYAGES |

Family owned & operated, this Chinese BBQ & Seafood Restaurant is the real deal! Located in a strip shopping center with plenty of parking, not anything fancy; it's all about the food! Upon entering, you will note the continuous beat on the butcher's block as the BBQ duck & pork hang to the left of the front door. Live lobster, crab & shrimp tanks catch your eye too! Beijing Duck is excellent here and the preparation and chopping never stop. Next, you will see full tables, hear the hum of conversation, the scrape of forks and knives upon the plates, it's all good. See young, old, familes from all backgrounds enjoying the delights of Stephanie's kitchen. Stephanie runs the place without skipping a beat, you will see her family working along side her, along with a dedicated staff. The menu is extensive, authentic Chinese cuisine. Don't hesitate to ask for help. Stephanie has guided us and we have never been disappointed. Go hungry, the portions are huge! Be prepared to try something new!

Packed, noisy, great food and fun

By TX2OBX |

Went here with family on Saturday night and could tell quickly it was a favorite with locals, especially those of Asian heritage. Large round table was perfect for the 6 of us, and we were all happy with the food. Service was fun to watch as the servers scurried around in the crowd, all trying mightily to satisfy diners. Service a bit spotty (forgot our soup, quickly made good), but all in all we had a fine night. Shrimp dishes were particularly good, as was orange beef.

Excellent Chinese food

By RSpicer |

We came with a party of 7 ready to eat. The waitress suggested we order one of the group packages, but we decided to order on our own. We ordered so many plates that I couldn't possible remember all of them, but that's what you do when you eat family style. To me it was all delicious. But some of the most memorable were the duck plate and the shrimp. The chicken and bak choy was also delicious. For as much food as we got the bill was cheap, and well worth it.

Just the best!
