Morningside Neighborhood

I love noodle bowl places like this. Nice local low-key restaurant south of Virginia-Highlands with (usually) ample free parking and no long wait-times.

Tasty!

By DiscerningOne69 |

Had some Teriyaki soba noodles and lettuce leaf appetizer, as well as a Tahi iced tea. Delicious! Very nice staff as well. Thumbs up!

Ok

We go here monthly because they are very fast, convenient and don’t get ruffled about separate checks. Food is a little disappointing. I want something more. Service is fine and they do have specials.

A bit pricey for what it is, but nice patio and good food

By majmcd |

I enjoy the food at Doc Chey's. I find the prices to be about $2-$3 per dish more than I would like to pay, but the patio area is nice and the service is good.

I like this place!

By Radford S |

Totally worth going to but not your regular seating arrangements.. They have some individual tables but they also have long picnic tables. Sometimes you may end up at a table with someone you don't know...I like that though. The food is fresh and yummy. The flavors are VERY good. Nothing fancy and you will get your money's worth.

Next to Emory and great for a quick meal

By Shiv G |

This place is always busy - lots of parking (but don't extend your stay as there is apparently always someone around giving tickets). The food is fast, good and reasonably-priced.

Totally hip and delicious

This Asian fusion restaurant in the Virginia Highlands district of Atlanta is absolutely fantastic. It is moderately prices and holds a great service record. Among the choices of dishes it includes brown rice. S plus for those like me who avoid white rice. Great place!

First Timer

By JJdub505 |

We were in the area and needed to get a quick bite to eat. What a present surprise when we found Doc Chey's Noodle House. The menu is extensive with a number of items on for daily specials on the chock board. As this was our first time, we asked if the order taker could make suggestions he was very pleasant and told us about a good variety. We ended up with Korean beef tacos and tofu stir-fry, with brown rice. This was fast food but fresh it was made after we ordered and delivered to our table fast. Very tasty and will defiantly go back when in the area.

Great, fresh food!

Great food. Huge portions that are very well priced. I used to live in the neighborhood and I miss them!

Great Service Tasty Food

By Yvette C |

Our server was attentive, prompt and likeable. We chose to share our entrees, so he made sure we had an extra plate. Between the beer and our food choices, it was a reasonable dinner.

Quick, cheap eats

By Gesie64 |

Never had a bad meal here. My favorites are the chicken pad Thai but most of all, the garlic eggplant. I get it every time. The basil rolls are a must too.

Old favorite showing its age

By ssatl1948 |

A solid noodle bowl at fair prices has always been the go to here. Any of the selections are tasty, it just depends on your preferences. Cheap, fast, tasty. Ambiance has become very dingy and place needs a sprucing up but the food is still worthy of a visit.

Good to be back at a local favorite. Nice outside eating area on a beautiful fall evening. Both service and food are good.

Family Friendly--Much Missed in Emory Village

By YourLadyMother |

My kids love coming here, although they miss the location that was in Emory Village for years (replaced by a spin-off they don't care for). Atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, food is all right but not great. There are some good options for kids and I like the coconut chicken soup. If you get take out, make sure you have all your food before you leave...they work fast (appreciated!) but can make mistakes. That said, they will replace any mistakes they make with good cheer and they have a very good Rewards system if you dine here frequently. Be careful in the parking lot. Plenty of space but some intense driving.

Adequate noodles

By Franco |

I opted for the vermicelli it was on the dry side. Broccoli and zucchini we're perfectly cooked as was the ribeye. Crushed peanuts added a nice touch.

I love Chinese Noodles

By Wanda E |

Whenever we go down to visit family in Atlanta I always make sure to go to Doc Chey's. We were there last night and I am so happy that we were. I absolutely love the Thai Coconut Soup. The spicy thai basil with shrimp is also a favorite. The whole place has a really great vibe to it and we have always recieved really great service. The neighborhood outside of the restaurant only adds to the appeal as it makes a great backdrop whenever we sit outside. They have really outdone themselves with the staff. They usually complete the experience so well. Their courtesy and accuracy are outstanding. And friendliness always means so much when we go out. Bland servers or people in a rush to be done with you can really ruin a meal but you will not find that here. I do love to come to Georgia and visit my in-laws but I would be lying if I did not say that each time we plan a trip that I didn't promise myself at least one or two visits to this great place.

Very good Asian cuisine

By Peter S |

This is a slightly upscale noodle house... upscale compared to other noodle houses. All four of us enjoyed our meals thoroughly. The food was great. The service was great. It was busy, so it was a little noisy. The prices are very reasonable. Be prepared to wait for a table. This place is popular.

good pad thai

By cooldudeAtlanta |

Lots of people knock this place(Emory Doc Chey's) because" it isn't authentic" or it is part of a chain or whatever. Sorry food snobs but i like this little place. The atmosphere and location are good and the noodles are pretty good for the price. I frequent here often and always leave happy.

I could have licked my plate/bowl !

By BWB1021 |

This is one of my favorite spots. Never disappointed. Their service and food is consistently good. I often order the Pad Thai (shrimp); or order a variety from the Dim Sum menu; but I decided to go with Thai Coconut Red Curry w/shrimp and it was out of sight. The right balance in vegetables & shrimp. I order the dim sum portion of chicken soup as well as my husband. He ordered the Spicy Szechuan with beef. I tasted his and will order next time. Check out their menu. Prices are good. Great place for vegetarians! They cook food to order. Note: During lunch hours, it is 100% self service. When you enter, place your order at the counter. and get your drink, utensils, etc and seat yourself. However, they change over to fine dining for dinner. My husband & I enjoy Doc Chey's Noodle House.

Always enjoyable

By tututravels2014 |

Kathleen was an excellent server. Our order was correct on the first go round. The food was hot and very favorable. We enjoy this location. Parking is convenient. Will continue to visit.

I had forgotten how freshly prepared Asian food tastes!

By Airbus_CFI |

I was tired. I didn't want to prepare my own dinner. I wanted dim sum or something Asian. I then realized that I hadn't eaten at Doc Chey's in ages, ever since "the virus" closed everything down. On arrival, the parking lot was somewhat empty. The entrance has changed. No seating at the bar overlooking the flaming woks. Nuts! One now orders and pays first. That's OK. The dining room is spotlessly clean and the interior has been lightened up. My pad Thai was promptly prepared and brought to my table. I washed it down with a Kirin beer. The pad Thai was...fantastic! "Just what the doctor ordered!"

Best cheap noodles in town, and the edamame is awesome too.

Best Pad Thai in town

Great deal and good food. Bountiful Pad Thai that is not sickeningly sweet. Good curries. Quick, easy, affordable and excellent food.

Neighborhood Comfort

By TravelingAdventure3 |

Every time I have lunch at this place, I receive great service and good food. It's near the great Emory University and hospital so the convenience of walking to a cool little lunch spot is great. The lettuce wraps, coconut soup, hot green tea really warms the soul. I enjoy this neighborhood comfort spot!

Yummy Asian Fusian

By BN976 |

I have eaten about 20 times at the Asheville site. I am never disappointed. Each dish is made after you order. Their food isnt premade and keot warm. The ingredients are fresh and it feels like you are feeding yourself something healthy. The staff is the best.

Great service and food!

By cecil65 |

We were looking for a pleasant dining experience on a Saturday and stopped in Docs on a whim.. Great noodles at a fair price! The food was fresh and arrived quickly! Our server was pleasant, professional and attentive! If you like freshly prepared Asian style cuisine this place is a find! We look forward to being in the area and eating at Docs in the future!!

BEST noodle house in town!!! Get spring rolls and pad thai!

By ABee1999 |

I loved the mixture of flavors of this place and unique experience we had there. I would definitely recommend!! It's an excellent value and oh so delicious! We will be back soon.

Pretty underwhelmed

By Zippy P |

I'd heard great things about this place, so recently brought a friend visiting from out of town who wanted noodles. The counter clerk was amazingly friendly (Bonus!) and helpful (Stars!!) and she made her recommendations from the menu that we both really appreciated. It was our first time here, but we both have palates for Asian cuisine, and her recommendations seemed to hit on just what we were hungry for. The (pork) bun appetizer was good. There were four buns in all, with a dipping sauce, and we enjoyed all of them. However, when our meals arrived, my companion's was just as anticipated, and she seemed to thoroughly enjoy it as she ate it all, but mine - the one we were told was "spicy" and "a favorite" had ZERO spice, and otherwise was pretty unremarkable. I ordered it with chicken, and had to really search for the minced meat. The vegetables were surprisingly scarce, too. I'd ordered the Thai Basil Noodle, and I've had this dish elsewhere to great satisfaction but here, however, it was so bland, and without any sort of heat - and by that I mean it literally - that I actually now believe I may have received the wrong dish. Eventually, I added about four tablespoons of sriracha sauce to my noodles to make the dish remotely heated. The patio was nice, but I wouldn't want to eat there during rush hour as it's right on a busy intersection.

Love that they give back to the community so much. Get the Shanghai Dumplings! Also love imperial salad, Thai basil noodle bowl, curry...everything!

I just don't get that excited about noodles.

By CrashDecatur_Ga_ |

It was fun to watch the eclectic crowd. Students have no idea how entertaining they are to older people.

Great food, great service. Read reviews carefully.

By Sue F |

Some of the reviews are actually for Dragon Bowl and not Doc Chey's. Homegrown had announced the menu would be different at the new restaurant. We go to the N. Highland Doc Chey's frequently and it's consistent and good. One of our favorite restaurants.

One of the Better Restaurants around Emory

By Flyeguy |

I have been going to Doc Chey's Noodle House for years and always find it to be a pleasant experience. The Menu is extensive and offers something for everyone. In addition, they often have weekly specials that are delicious and worth the visit. Their Karma card is a good reward system for return visits. The Staff over the years has always been friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and products. When you want a good hot or cold asian style, this place can't be beat.

Use to be better, now just OK.

Above average food-great service

By Billzzz |

I don't know if this is a fair review, as I visited the Doc Chey's on Memorial, but I couldn't review that location. The great: parking is plentiful in the lot next door. The service is fast, friendly and efficient. The good: spring rolls and pad Thai. spring rolls were crispy and flavorful with a sweet and spicy sauce. The pad Thai was fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere is clean and modern. The bad:Korean beef tacos. Man, were they salty! Doctored them up with siracha hot sauce to make them edible. Would go there again but would order something other than the tacos or have them omit the sauce. Prices also were fair.

Neighborhood Noodles

By William B |

Doc Chey Atlanta serves up a hot and hearty bowl of tasty noodles, salads, and Dim Sum. It's great for lunch. The ambience is simple but the price is right. Give the Pad Thai a try and add your choice of chicken, beef, or tofu.

Decent Dinner

By oldhousejunkie |

I was dragged to Doc Chey's for dinner on Saturday by some friends who were just dying to visit as they had lost their local Doc Chey's. I will go ahead and say that I wasn't in the mood for Asian, but I went along anyway. I really enjoyed the steamed dumplings. I ended up getting the fried rice with jasmine rice. I liked it a lot. It was a HUGE portion. I wish they offered half portions as I ended up eating the chicken out of it so it wouldn't go to waste. I liked the jasmine rice especially...I wish all Chinese restaurants offered that option. I was impressed by the staff and their willingness to customize your dish and do it with a smile. Very nice. I don't know if I will ever go back, but if I don't, there is no other reason besides that I have anothe favorite Chinese/Asian restaurant. I thought Doc Chey's menu was a little light and because I'm a picky eater, the over abundance of veggies in the dishes really limited me. But I would recommend eating there if you are not a picky eater and are in the mood for Asian. The staff really is excellent.

A Late Night Delight

By 735darleneh |

Had the green beans that were delicious. Perfect texture. Also tried the egg rolls with shrimp and the coconut milk/sauce bowl with vegetables and chicken. The food was prepared to order and very fresh. Moderately priced. Large portions. The appetizers were large enough to share. Not outstanding food. But definitely ok. I did like the list of wines available.

Okay spot

By Gooseview |

We've eaten here several times with enjoyable results. It's a good neighborhood spot; with tables outside and inside service has been good, and the food in interesting. We did a family take-out from here during a recent holiday, they were busy and maybe overloaded. Some of our dishes were not as good as those we'd had eating in, but we'll give them a pass on this one, as overall its a good place to enjoy a meal.

Good not great Chinese food

By janiceh |

Standard Chinese, Thai type food, mostly noodles and stir fry. The dumplings were good as were the crispy veggie filled rolls. The dipping sauces were ok, nothing special. I had the eggplant which was good but not great.

Okay experience

By stephenk491 |

We wanted a small hole in the wall restaurant that the locals love and thought we found it. It definitely is a hole in the wall. The menu is pretty limited and I was disappointed there wasn't a noodle soup offered. The dim sum was cold and rubbery and the sauce was more like watered down soy sauce. My noodles were overly seasoned with soy sauce that didn't allow the other flavors to come through. It was kind of like those packs of ramen we all ate in college. My wife's fried rice got lost somewhere and she waited until everyone was finished before it showed.up. They did comp her meal though as an apology. Her fried rice was very bland though. I realize we can't judge on just one visit, but there are also other noodle places to try.

Really nice spring rolls!

By ATL495 |

Doc Chey's has great spring rolls--they are so tasty! I also had the coconut soup and Pad Thai, both of which also were wonderful…I highly recommend this inexpensive eatery!

Good for a lunch

By redneckersson5 |

Fast food, done well, but with a place to linger and talk if you wish.

OK food, good service

By Ty Easter |

I was looking for a place in Midtown for some good Chinese food. Not a huge variety of food options, but pretty good. Food is cooked to order, so that's great. The spicy is not spicy at all and the portion size is also pretty small. I'm not opposed to visit again, but still on the search for a better place in Midtown.

Always good

By Stuart S |

Just have to say that if you're craving some eclectic Asian food, you just can't go wrong at Doc Chey's. Whether you want to get takeout or sit down at the covered patio to chill, it's worth the trip. Like an old friend who sits by the phone, waiting for your call...

YUM

By Hail2V |

Every time I'm in Atlanta I stop in for noodles. The food is awesome, the service is great and the environment is very laid back and fun. It's a must if you like asian cuisine.

Same people, different menu

By WanderlustGA8334 |

OK, so totally honest here...I have not officially dined at Dragon Bowl yet (they open late July 2014). I have been a regular at Doc Chey's Noodle House at Emory Village for years, and the owners are currently converting this location into a new type of restaurant called Doc Chey's Dragon Bowl. The new place is based on the noodle house's "dragon bowl" chalkboard specials, which are oh so yumalicious. They started serving these bowls over the past year, and are now opening a whole restaurant based on it. So yes, I have eaten a dragon bowl, and eaten at this location, but not officially under the new concept. Can't wait! Will review again in a few weeks when they open.

Good Food, Value and Service

By lbloveslife |

This casual eatery is in the Grant Park area of Atlanta. It's about a 10-minute drive from Martin Luther King's home and Audobon Avenue. They have inside and outside seating, the prices are very reasonable, the service is attentive, the cuisine is Asian inspired. I have had the Doc Chey's chicken (which is like General Tso, chicken. I have also had their Mongolian Steak, Thai Iced tea, Green Tea Martini's, sake and even their desert, i've never been disappointed. My husband, I went with our daughter for an early dinner and we each had our meal, we had one desert, I had sake, they had iced teas and the bill was only $40 dollars for 3 people.

Great food, great price, good portions

By TyjaNichole |

Delicious food, this place is as good as high priced asian "chang". i child per adult eats free on Sunday. The portion for the kids rice and lomein was plentiful and we took some home too. Delicious fried rice. Thai red curry chicken was great too.. myself and 3 children ate for $22...

OK, nice people

By norcrossmom |

Every time I'm down at Emory, I invariably end up here. When I worked down there every day, we'd go to Doc's 1-2 per month. The workers are probably all Emory students - it's not very ethnic. But the food is good, and everyone is so intensely happy. I have noted this phenomena at my daughter's liberal college - it's like the student's are all just so happy to be alive - which is a good thing, but sometimes you just want to be left alone!

Good family restaurant

By Honda66 |

We have been here several times and the food is good. Tried several dishes and liked all of them except one fishy one. But the rice, noodles and chicken are great! (I just hate fish and that particular dish had some kind of fish juice in it). Kids love it too so give it a try. Then after you eat go to the self serve yogurt place just around the corner (has a weird name like Yogli Mogli or something like that)

Excellent noodles, but....

By dfoley8255 |

I have been going to Doc Chey's for years and the quality of the food has always been excellent. However, it seems they have strayed away from noodle dishes with only four listed on the menu and the rest being stirfry dishes. The stirfry is really tasty, but if you're going to call yourself a noodle house, seems that would be your focus.

Tasty Fusion Fare

By Long-strange-journey |

Doc Chey's is a laid back restaurant tucked away in the Morningside neighborhood. The Menu looked somewhat limited at first - starters (labeled Dim Sum), larger selections of soups and salads, some tacos, a handful of noodle and stir fry dishes, and whatever specials might be on the board for the day. But the portions are big enough to share with one or two others. We ordered the Thai coconut soup (a variation of traditionalTom Kha), Miso soup, Marco Polo (udon noodles and vegetables in tomato ginger sauce), Pad Thai, and Mongolian stir fry. Everything was delicious! Not salty. Not loaded with garlic. Very well done and very inexpensive. The restaurant offers a selection of drinks, including numerous tea options, as well as beer (and possibly wine?). The restaurant is a modet size, but if going in the warmer months, there is plenty of outdoor seating. It is a family-friendly environment (meaning people brought children), though I am not sure whether there is a kid's menu (check the website). We would definitely be back!

Not the same Doc Chey's

By happytravelMomof2 |

I think I would have rated this higher if I had not been a Doc Chey regular for the past 5 years. The panko crusted chicken for kids is gone. We selected the American style chicken and rice. The black rice wasn't the least bit appealing to any child under 10 but the ketchup/bbq covered chicken was excellent. I had a Thai Ramen chicken dish and it was good too but my husband tried to replicate his Thai Spicy Basil favorite and the person working the counter couldn't do it. Didn't even have a suggestion of how to get close. I understand the Va Highlands location is still the class Doc Chey's. We will move on to that one as our go to and leave the Dragon Bowl concept to those that haven't experienced classic Doc Chey's.

Absolutely love it

By Michaela W |

It is convenient very clean super friendly and best coconut soup in town. it is conveniently located in the Grandpark area you can bring your pet... they even got a bowl full of water for my German shepherd. It is inexpensive and the quality of food is great... I never have to wait very long so lunch break, go for it!!!

Yummy....!

By Gooseview |

We ate here....at the request of our grandchildren....and were very pleased. We sat outside with a nice breeze; had a good server to wait on us, took her advice about what to order, and enjoyed. This is a noodle place, they have good dim sum, interesting specials, and a great coconut soup.

Excellent food in very nice intown neighborhood

By gategateparamita |

The food is always fresh made to order. The prices are quite reasonable. The people who work there are very pleasant and the owner (Rich) is usally on the scene.

Spring rolls were tasty...

By Voyage59297 |

Spring rolls were tasty, but too greasy. Had the chicken pad thai.. couldn't tell if it had eggs or not and fish sauce was waaay overpowering. Thought it would be better since I'm a huge fan of one of their other restaurants, Stella Trattoria.

Great place for the whole family !!!

By larrylegend28 |

We were in town visiting Emory University and were directed here for lunch from a few students and administrators. What a great suggestion. We've eaten this style of food before, but there's nothing in the northeast that comes close to the quality delivered by Doc Chey's. Each of us wanted stir fry and essentially had our own custom dish by selecting what we wanted plus the sauce and they made it to perfection. One of my daughter's is a vegan and it was great for her as well. I only wish they'd open one in NYC and I'd eat there everyday. Awesome place and well worth a visit !

Love this place

By Tony the RVer |

Great place for a quick stop. Food is excellent and reasonable. I shall return for for the noodles snd bring friends.

Mongolian Beef--Yum!

By Jim P |

It's small. It's EXTREMELY casual. It's tucked away in the corner of a small strip retail center at the North end of Virginia Highlands. But the people are friendly, the food is good and it's fast and convenient - especially for anyone living the immediate area. Dine-in or take-out, Doc Chey's satisfies. I'd recommend you give it a try.

Pretty Good with Great Sauce Options & Service

By Michelle B |

My friend and I stopped in for a few appetizers as I had read in the AJC it was highly rated and wanted to try it out. We had an order of dumplings, which were good and an order of shrimp spring rolls, with a sweet chili sauce. While these were crisp and not greasy, which was impressive, i found no concrete evidence of actual shrimp. There were 3 of them and I only ate one, so perhaps the other 2 were chock full and I didn't see it. I would try them again though. The highlight was the Korean Taco's. They were very flavorful and had a good amount of meat in them while having the crunch of the cabbage and other ingredients. We got the sauce on the side as we were told it was spicy, but found it to be very enjoyable and not that spicy at all. Great way to control the potential burn.

Pretty good for lunch. You do get full for the price and they have great tea.

Fast, Filling,

By CarettaChick |

Second visit to the Emory location. Not too bad. I know people knock this place because of the salty-ness or the flavor. I suppose it depends on what you order. This place makes eveything to your order. So if you don't want red pepper or added sauce, then leave it out. Food arrived fast, hot, and good portion. This time, I got the black bean rice noodles, yum. We arrived a bit after 1pm and had no trouble finding a place to sit or park.

Fast, delicious food!

By kurokitty |

We come here frequently for lunch because the food is delicious and doesn't take long to get to your table. I had a noodle dish special and my wife had an excellent Szechwan stir-fry with steamed tofu. The patio is a great place to relax and people-watch in the Morningside neighborhood!

Fresh, fresh, fresh!

By Kathy T |

It may not be fine dining, but the food is excellent. I started off with the steamed edamame. There were enough for four people! My friend and I shared the lettuce wraps with tofu. There was just enough sauce to add flavor, without being overpowering or messy. For my entree I had a veggie szechuan stir-fry. Fresh and delicious with just a light amount of spice. Having had the tofu lettuce wraps, I wish I had ordered the stir-fry with the tofu. Next time for sure. I was lucky enough to win the grand prize during their fortune cookie day, but that's not the reason I plan to go back! For the money, you can't do better.

Not the place for a formal dinner

By Pawl |

But a really great place for a casual meal out. A variety of Chinese and Thai style dishes all as far as I could see prepared quickly and well and served in informal canteen like surroundings with shared tables. I had chicken Thai red curry with jasmine rice which was good and served in a sensible sized portion. If I lived locally it would be a regular location for me.

Food on the go

When all else fails there's Doc Chey's to fill the gap!!! Yes, they are always there when one doesn't feel like cooking or just for a change!!! Just call ahead and lunch/dinner can be picked up in minutes!!

Great little place near Emory, parking lot next to the building. Wide variety of noodle dishes - def try the specials. I had a Korean bbq with steak served in a large bowl and loved it.

Worse Service Ever

By Joseph K |

Ugh. Their food has never been great or even fresh, but their location to and from midtown is convenient. I stopped for their patio and had the worse service I ever have had eating anywhere in the world. Sat fifteen minutes with no one greeting me, tried to flag down waitress who ignored me, tried to flag down another waiter who turned and said "Not my section" so I went inside to the person who I knew was the manager and told him what happened. He said, "I'm not acting as the manager tonight." No kidding! I get that COVID has made running a restaurant harder as well as funding good staff, but it has also cut my income by 50% so spending $20 for lackluster food is now a splurge that is not worth it if even getting to order is a nightmare. I never did order anything or get an apology or service. Insane.

I like the teriyaki udon...

By Harold K |

I like the teriyaki udon bowl, and the waitresses are funny to me.

Easy evening meal

By TJ L |

2nd trip to Doc Chey's. The dumplings are delicious as are the Edamame. This time i tried the Teriyaki Noodle dish with beef. Tender beef and flavorful sauce. For those of you who do not like spicy foods this is a possibility. I do not like spices AT ALL and I could handle this one and just about licked the bowl clean. Easy to get a table on a Monday night and quick service. Thank you, Kathleen.

Great food and great prices

By Jim M |

Doc Chey's Noodle House just plain good food with excellent prices. Love the shrimp tacos. Service fast and wait staff very friendly. Love this place.

Fresh, healthy food

By Psylocke19 |

Food is cooked to order & very fresh. They accommodate food allergies & don't use MSG so you get the tase you want but still feel healthy. Large hot tea selection & daily specials keep the menu from getting boring. The food is always perfectly cooked & the service is great. Half of the restaurant is a large patio, perfect for the location. Love the rewards program they have too.

Very Good Food and Service

By SandersBrown |

Good food, good service, extremely fresh ingredients and fast service. Great for adults and children.

Absolutely the worst service in 25 years.

By AtlantaBusTravel |

I write lots of reviews as you can see from my profile so this is not a one off rant. We are a party of 4 and come in for dinner. We all order and after the appetizers they bring 3 of the 4 entrees and say the fourth is "on its way". Then for the next about 40 minutes: nothing. By this time the other three guests have long finished completely eating and then some. At this point simultaneously the waiter decides to start "explaining" what happened, I demand the check and they bring the last entree which I refuse. There was some brief mumbling about "talking to my manger about this". I again say I want the check which they then bring (but even that they dragged out a little). I pay and leave. The manager, if there was one, never came over. No real apology. So from a customer service perspective this was an awful experience. From a common courtesy perspective it was below even the basic expectations one has. For a manager not even to come over shows no real concern for how the restaurant is run or what the customer experience is. You always bring all the entrees to all the guests at approximately the same time. Also for context the restaurant was not particularly busy. At least three tables which came in after had their meals served in the interim. Their food is consistently good quality. The service was not. It was awful. Just awful.

Best ever Coconut Soup

By gypsysoul61 |

I dream of this coconut soup so when in Atlanta it is my go to restaurant. It is one of the best that I have had. I had to get a take out to carry some back to my hotel. SO YUMMY!!!!!

Nice restaurant for noodles

By Spiider |

I liked the diversity of all noodels and the fresh vegetables used for all the dishes, if you are around go and enjoy the food! :)

Nice variety of Asian noodle and soup fare...

By ATLDawg |

Modestly priced, simple but good noodle bowls, soups, some stir fry, and vegetarian offerings. I prefer the Emory location on N. Decatur Road (in terms of the seating), but both offer the same food. I wouldn't say it's worth writing home about, but the prices are good, the environment informal, and the food reliable.

Will go again!

Great place, great food and great service ! offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can be a pain at peak hours.

Good Noodles

By TravelingFloridaGirl |

Good noodles by neighborhood chain. Typical noodle/thai menu. Ingredients are fresh and meals are made to order, not pre-made. Pleasant staff, good value. Good standby, never disappoints.

Delicious

By DAgg84 |

Excellent food! Big portions which work well for next day leftovers. Would eat there all the time if I could! Had Chinese Lo Mein. Excellent place for Emory students and family visits.

good food prepared quickly

By atlantawhit |

I have been here multiple times and am usually quite pleased with my visit. My husband loves coming here for their fried rice, I usually get the Pad Thai or the Massaman Curry. The coconut chicken soup is more spicy than I care for (I like it sweet or lemongrassy), but the service is fast, even on a busy night, and the food will leave you full!

too greasy

By Gale U |

the food was average, a little greasy for an Asian restaurant. The egg rolls were cold and greasy instead of having a light texture. The flavor was excellent, but luke warm food when delivered.

Bland, but Quick and Good Service

By springlering |

Service is excellent, the servers are very friendly and helpful, but the menu is limited, and kind of bland. Is now very similar to a hundred other Asian food places in town. I miss the wonderful noodle bowls I remember from when they first opened. Kind of reminds me of another local (bakery) chain that started out fabulous, developed a devoted following, then cheapened ingredients bit by bit until their food was meh, and they started closing locations. But, it's a great location, and convenient for a quick meal, and (bless them) easy parking in an area where that's at a premium. And probably the nicest, most considerate servers I ever met. I had to wait quite a while for my husband to meet me, and they kept coming by and asking if I'd like anything, or wanted to go ahead and be seated. That's worth points!

Best Chicken Pad Thai !!

Best Chicken Pad Thai !!

Great food and even better service

By MarLee_12 |

Thur night after a long road trip we arrived here and were immediately seated. We waited a little bit for the server since the place was slammed with people but w/ the extra time we decided on what we wanted to eat. Food came out fast so I was a little skeptical BUT it was awesome!! The kids, especially the picky eater, LOVED the kids lo mein which BTW was reasonably priced AND was of good quality and quantity. I couldn't finish the udon I ordered. The server, Corey, was expeditious, thorough, and in this all to cruel world....very kind. If I ever come through the ATL again I'll stop for the food and definitely the awesome service. The kids enjoyed the chalk board and the atmosphere was pleasing to both adults and children. Amazing place, must go :)

Located in the Virginia Highlands area, Doc Cheys is a great place to have a family dinner. Wonderful service, fantastic food, and a great view when you eat on the patio

Tasty

By Linda M |

*Would be more easily seen heading north on Highland. *Parking is scarce as it is in a tiny stripmall. *Cramped spaces when you first walk in, eating area is more spacious but can still be crowded when full. *They have outside seating. *This is in Virginia Highlands which is quaint and yuppy. *One special is crispy brussel sprouts - delicious!! a little too salty, but delicious!!! *Pad Thai was wonderful, flavorful, hearty, good portion. *Mango pudding would have been a wonderful ending.

Great for a casual, quick dinner

By YeayVacations |

We've come here several times. Service is always good and quick. Real friendly staff. Good menu to choose from with extra specials. Very nice for a quick, casual experience. Will keep going back.

Relaxing, good food, resonable prices

By Statmans |

Recent shift in business travel has taken me to Atlanta a dozen times this year. Upon recommendation of a friend, I sought out Doc Chey's. They have several locations in Atlanta, but the one on highland street is my favorite. Some will tell you the one closer to Emory U is more authentic, but in my opinion it's a bit more run down - or maybe it's more geared to the college crowd that doesnt care about appearences. Before you order, look at the chalk board for the daily specials. They list items not on the menu - a daily noodle, usually a stir fry, and an appetiser. Now, they DO have Pad Thai, and proudly feature it - but I've never had their version. Maybe I'm missing out on the worlds best Pad Thai, but I suspect you'll do better at a Thai place. Anyway, I used to order only noodle dish's at Doc Chey's, given that they are a noodle shop. But one day a special stir fry on the chalk board caught my eye - it was a honey-orange sesame stif fry, and I ordered it with shrimp (you can also order any stir fry veggie, or with chicken. No beef or pork). They'll bring it with your choice of rice - brown or white. I know brown rice is suppose to be healthier, but I like the sticky quality of white rice when there's a sauce that you want to get every drop of - like the special that night. I also like to get the steamed dumplings to start my meal, and always get a pot of tea - the entire back page is devoted to different teas. When they bring it, MAKE SURE TO LET IT SIT for 5 to 10 minutes. The tea is in a basket near the top of the pot, and if you pour right away it won't have steeped long enough to get the flavor. I saved the best part for last, because I wanted you to appreciate the quality and distinctivness of Doc Chey-s. When you get your bill, or if you read a menu right to left (price, then item) you will be very happy - the place is dirt cheap.

Best family restaurant in the neighborhood

By Ericmaurer2 |

We have come here for years, at least once a month. They offer fairly consistent quality and service in a small restaurant often crowded with students and families. The ingredients are fresh, with vegetables remaining fairly crisp in the noodle dishes. The salads are large and excellent. The noodles are not mushy as is often the case with other Asian-fusion restaurants in the area. Overall, this is a safe bet for a quick reliable bowl of soup or tasty noodles.

Interesting and laid back

By Traveling Coach |

I met a friend and colleague recently at Doc Chey's at her suggestion. Not being familiar with this area of town I deferred to her recommendation. It was a delightful surprise. First, we dined al fresco which is nice at this time of year. Second, she gold me how the system worked (you place the order and pay first) the food was delivered to our table by a very polite young man. The place is casual and the the decor has the feel of an eclectic college dorm room. However, the food was excellent and modestly priced. We dined on edamame and the portion was large. I suppose you would call this an American-Asian fusion restaurant that is at least two steps above fast food. However, the menu had a variety of choices and the casual atmosphere was conducive to a delightful and relaxed lunch discussion. Noodles, stir fry. shrimp rolls and tofu capped a menu that was at the same time interesting and fun. This is not necessarily a place where I would bring a client but it is perfect for meeting friends in a casual setting. If you are in the area and in the mood for Asian food, try this place, It is worth the effort.

Easy style, great food, free parking, in Highlands area

By screenameTallahassee |

We like to eat lunch at this easy going, comfortable restaurant, serving really tasty asian food at very reasonable prices. Coveted free parking in Atlanta Highlands near Lennox-Morningside area a plus. My wife likes the lettuce wraps. I like multiple choices. Can't miss on this one.

Fun and Noodles

Doc Chey's has a laid back atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Service was prompt and friendly. We shared a variety of appetizers and noodles dishes and they were all tasty. Good selection of beer to go along with the food too.

Casual Asian inspired food

By habibtta |

Good Asian inspired food in a friendly setting. It is in my neighborhood (Morningside/Virginia-Highland) So I go there often. Small menu but they have daily specials too that are usually good. It's a great place for a casual lunch or dinner. It has a nice patio too.

Average

Of the places to eat in the area, this would be one to try. Decent food, but it ain't no Buford... But i guess if you are in the area and don't have a car...

Healthy and delicious!

By Summer W |

My boyfriend took me here for lunch. We split a curry chicken bowl and it was delectable. It was just the perfect amount to split. It had brown rice pilaf with chicken and broccoli. We walked away feeling like we made a healthy choice but without sacrificing flavor. Would definitely come back often if I lived nearby.

Best place to get noodles, the best is Pad Thai and shrimp rolls...

I am a local and go here regularly

By Mrluthor |

I've been coming here for lunch for years. The food is freshly prepared and the service is quick. I've been to both locations (Viginia Highlands & Oakland Cemetary) over the years and you can't miss @ either location (there used to be a location out by Emory, not sure if it's still there). I still work in the ATL where my wife no longer works downtown and when I go here for lunch, I better bring her the Japanese Yakudon (menu change included a new name for this dish). Anyhow, I will usually get the basil rolls and get the Pad Thai, one of the many soups, or the wife's favorite. I haven't had a 'bad' choice yet. Prices are good and the food's ALWAYS been good. You can't miss....

Not authentic at all

By John T |

As a true blue Asian with high expectations, this restaurant failed badly in terms of food quality. If you are looking for a true Asian food experience, there are better restaurants in Atlanta.

Ok

By Maria G |

I have heard so many good things about Doc Chey's in the 20 years I have lived in Atlanta but was not impressed. I had tried the Sandy Springs location since I am an OTP girl and that went out of business. The food was bland. The dumplings came with regular soy sauce. The general chey's spicy and sweet dish with beef had little flavor and little beef. My daughter liked her udon noodles. The seating is very uncomfortable. The service is good. The parking lot is hard to navigate. I am not coming back anytime soon.

Still the best Noodle House in Atlanta

By GreenBiners |

This one is the first one, and still the best. Melissa is an amazing waitress if you can snag her, she's been there forever! The basil noodle bowl is yummy, as are the basil rolls. Enjoy the patio on a nice Spring day!

Always go back

By Pedro T |

This is a great Chinese food joint in the Virginia Highlands sections of midtown Atlanta. Perfectly cooked Chinese dishes and a variety of good flavors and recipes to choose from. Great informal atmosphere to dine indoors or in the alfresco terrace. Ample parking and off the crowded Highland corner area. Good for the budget traveller.

Convenient and moderately priced

By Janiceboo |

It was a busy Wednesday evening, and the chicken with lettece wrap appetizer was a generous portion, as was a cup of the coconut soup. I placed the order to take-out, and it was efficiently prepared. The staff are very nice, and the place is high energy. Being adjacent to Emory University and Hospital, it is a local place to take visitors, and for students. The food is very good, and I will be back.

Local chain and neighborhood mainstay.

By Brent N |

This is a neighborhood stop for us, and we have been going here for a LONG time! The food is sorta Asian, but with twists. There is a regular menu and specials. Food is very fresh and prepared as you order. We really like the noodle dishes but everything is great. The staff is cool-really. You might meet Richard Chey, who is the originator of the chain. He is very cool too. He does tons of community stuff for local causes and schools. The food is always great-very consistent quality and service. Not a big bucks sort of place either. Highly recommended!

Great for what it is

By snoogle |

It always annoys me when people review a place out of it's context. Doc Chey's is a small chain in the area that serves an Americanized version of various noodle dishes so review it on that basis, don't bash it for not being 'authentic' when that's not even what they are trying for! Bottom line is that its a great fix for your noodle cravings, especially in a city without a lot of good options to begin with. Overall they do a good job, the dishes are flavorful and consistent and they have the right base elements to them. I like the spicy thai basil with chicken and/or shrimp, its got a bit of a kick to it and I love the fresh thai basil. They basically serve simplified versions of many 'authentic' asian noodle dishes in a fashion that is pleasing to the American palate. So yes, if you're comparing it to Momofuku in NY or PPQ in SF then its not gonna stack up at all, but for the neighborhood its in and the area its pretty yummy and cheap and well worth a try if you want a quick meal.
