Great food

By Lori K |

We were in Portland on a business trip. We chose to try this place because I liked the name. The building is older but has character. We came in and really liked the relaxed and comfortable feel we had. We had dinner. We visited with Andy. By the way, Andy makes a martini just the way my husband likes it!! The chowder was awesome on a cold February night in Portland. I had the French Dip and my husband had the pulled pork. These were some of the best sandwiches that we have had. We also had macaroni salad and potato salad. The whole meal was just great. He made our visit so enjoyable and would highly recommend this place for dinner. We heard the breakfast are really good too. We would always eat here when we are in the area.

Good pub food with a good selection

By Sailing_Sweetie |

I was here for breakfast for the first time. Good sized portions cooked to your request. They even had pumpkin pancakes for the holiday. I have had happy hour here and the drinks are good pours and a good selection of beers. Food is also good for pub food. I like the tuna salad. I will be back.

Portland gem

By Brittany_11_10 |

The Dockside is a locally and family owned and operated restaurant, and it's awesome for many reasons. It has: - Delicious food - Friendly, attentive staff - Indoor and outdoor seating - Charm and history (e.g., Tonya Harding) - Great value (fair prices for meal quality and quantity) - Awesome hash browns, and breakfasts in general You can't go wrong eating at the Dockside! My favorite casual dining and breakfast/brunch spot in Portland.

The best breakfast we had in Portland with a normal price!

By LovinMyTravels |

We stayed in Portland for 5 days. The owner of the condo we rented recommended the Dockside. The first morning we couldn't find it because we thought he said Darkside. We ended up driving all over downtown Portland, trying to find a resturant that opened before 8:00 am. We ended up eating at Nancy's Kitchen. Unfortunately, we didn't like it at all. The food was fancy but not good and the prices were the same. We looked up the recommended restaurant (Dockside) when we got back to the condo that night and found it. We ate there every morning for the next 3 days. The staff was super friendly, the food was the best, and the prices were right on. Not cheap but not fancy either. If you go, read the back on the menu. It has a little story about what the restaurant is really famous for. VERY INTERESTING! And then the owner went into detail when we asked about it.

Great food, funky setting

By Nick H |

Great place to meet friends for breakfast (which we did) or hang around for lunch, dinner. Eat drink and surround yourself with the history. The Dockside staff are friendly and efficient. The food is delicious. Our breakfast ranged from hash, chili omelette, to huevos rancheros. Served with toast and hash browns. All was delicious and the coffee kept coming. While it looks sketchy from the exterior (the building has been around since the early 20's I think) it is comfortable and quirky within. Look at all the pictures on the walls to see Portland dock history. Gaze outside at all the urban growth that (so far) the Dockside has been able to avoid. Well worth the visit.

What a breakfast!

By Don C |

The rest of the reviews of this place led us to try it during a trip to Portland. It was just perfect - eggs done exactly as ordered, delicious smoked bacon cooked right, neither too raw nor too crisp, super-friendly waitress (who says the restaurant's popularity is obviously due to the hot young waitress - her). And as so many of the reviewers have stated, they DO have the best hash browns in Portland.

Great breakfast as always

By anilif |

It's been a while since we've been here and buildings are going up all around this great spot. Breakfast was delicious as always. Hash browns are extra crisp the way I like them. Parking is a little tricky, but you'll figure it out.

Good food, even better service

By JPH85268 |

I've been going to the Dockside for over 20 years, mainly for breakfast but all of the food is good. Their happy hour very simply can't be beat....where else can you get a pint of quality craft beer and a nice burger for $6.50?...certainly nowhere nearby in the adjacent Pearl DIstrict. The waitresses are top notch and super friendly and most of them have worked there a long time....your coffee cup never stays empty for long, if ever. And for grins you get to eat where the plans Tonya Harding's "gang" made were found in the dumpster out back. I love the various "Bridge" breakfasts but the biscuits are killer. Don't miss this old time dockworker's hangout in NW Portland

GET TO DOCKSIDE IF YOU ARE IN PORTLAND!

By fridaygramma |

OK, this is SO Portland...this little gem of a restaurant is hidden in a sea of condos, apartments and commercial buildings along Front Avenue. It has been a restaurant since the 1930's and must NOT be overlooked. Owned and operated by a local Portland family for over 30 years (who can say that?) The food is down home. Scratch biscuits, home made hollandaise sauce, daily soup, eggs cooked to perfection and THE BEST hash browns and bacon anywhere! All at very reasonable prices. The place is filled with pictures that tie this place to Portland, think Tonya Harding! Yep, her garbage was found in their dumpsters. They have the friendliest wait staff anywhere and they quickly learn what your favorites are. Our family has had large birthday breakfasts (no separate room) where the whole restaurant sings, my husband had his retirement party there, I had a high school reunion there and, heck, we even had our son's rehearsal dinner there. Hands down, it's just the best in casual dining!

Friendly place with local appeal

By eatout1962 |

The Dockside is part sports bar and part local haunt on the waterfront in Portland. Staff is very friendly and seems to be well acquainted with many of the patrons. Price value is average and about what you'd expect, but the food and service are better than I expected given it's size, appearance and location. Consider for breakfast or lunch.

Local favorite

By Arturo C |

Not too far from my point of work had the chance to be brought for lunch and enjoy a great tuna sandwich. I was amazed that two days in a row we had to make it early, the place fills in fast. If you are in town, enjoy a nice quick lunch here. You will enjoy.

Character Counts

By Charles M |

This is the third time I've eaten at the Dockside, a place that could be overlooked or snubbed because of its outside appearance. Located at the edge of the Amtrak rail approach to Portland's Union Station, the gray, weathered wooden building it nothing to look at. But the menu is nothing to ignore. Great breakfasts with dishes being named for Portland's river bridges. On a Sunday morning the place was packed and deservedly so. It also serves customers from nearby upscale apartments and condos and during the week caters to workers from the industrial district. Friendly staff makes this one of Portland's "weird" and worthwhile experiences.

A real Experience

By Nancy A |

This is the funkiest restaurant -- terrific staff, great "American" breakfasts, and terrific taco happy hour. If you want a unique Portland experience, this is the place for you. Look it up on the map, it's fairly close to downtown. Our walking group hits this place every Saturday and we love their reasonably priced breakfasts, wall to wall sports TV's, and, especially, their bacon. The whole world around them is upgrading with pricey condos and apartments. But the Dockside remains the same. Just plain good, with lovely folks running it.

Nice neighborhood spot

By King A |

We'll be living just down the street and stopped by for a late lunch and I guess we'll be regular customers. It's a bar with good down to earth food. We both had the special which was a cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese, lettuce tomato on Texas toast. The special is the type of food they do, not fancy but well done Service was fast and friendly with good prices. Their happy hour menu was available and had really good prices too. Looks like you have to order a beverage (not water) but would still be a bargain It's the type of place we all need to know when you stop by because you don't have time or are too lazy to cook you'll be served well and quickly with good food you're familiar with. According to the blurb on the back of the menu their claim to fame is they found the evidence that ended Tanya Harding's "wholesome" image.

Awesome Breakfast

By m_broussard |

Whenever we visit from Houston, we always pop in for breakfast @ Dockside! Love their colorful claim to fame (Tonya Harding scandal) & the food is simply delish!!

Passes the litmus test

By Catullus51 |

There are few restaurants where you can look around the room and realize that every socio-economic and cultural group is represented. The Dockside is one of those places. This may be one of the friendliest places in town, with the tone set by the great servers. For me, the litmus test for breakfast restaurants is hash browns. The Dockside passes that test. Potatoes that are actually browned, can you imagine?

Genuine slice of Portland with best hash browns in the city

By bkrchristopher |

If you are looking for a genuine slice of Portland, this is your place. I love this place for breakfast. Best hash browns in the city of Portland. Made famous by Olympic Skater Tonya Harding as the place where the pipe that bashed Nancy Kerrigan was found (in the dumpster). Looks like a dump from the outside but warm and cozy on this inside with very friendly and long serving staff. This is a true 'Locals' place in classic Portland style. Always an eclectic mix of people: You will find dock workers, runners and cyclists in their spandex, car buffs, police officers, and semi-celebrity figures of the city's elite. Parking can be difficult lately with the mean adjacent landowner now refusing to lease the restaurant any parking space as the previous land owner did for multiple decades.

Weekend Brunch

By Kevin B |

Unique little spot on the north side of the city. Awesome atmosphere with the saloon theme. Good spot for brunch. The Spanish Coffee was strong and delicious. On Weekends they have a crab omelette that was perfect. Hashbrowns were crispy. Bread was nothing special. Service a tad slow but otherwise an enjoyable breakfast.

Best Omelettes in Portland

By JulesBrie |

Rustic little restaurant near the downtown waterfront. Serving up wonderful breakfast. Servers are very attentive with warm & friendly personalities .

Great neighborhood place

By Claudia F |

We regularly go to breakfast at the Dockside because it's consistently good and the wait staff is friendly. Angel cooks eggs to perfection and the hashbrowns are yummy. The only thing is the coffee is not so good, but we love it anyway, cause it's a Portland icon and the people who have been there for 20+ years are awesome! it's like having breakfast with your family.

Old city charm!

By renfield1969 |

Dockside is one of those old places in Portland that is ignoring and taking advantage of all the gentrification going on around them. This tiny building seems out of place amid all the new high rises, and it's so old they can't say exactly when it was built. The age adds charm as well as some surprising nooks and crannies (the doors to the restrooms were arranged so oddly I thought they were going to open up onto the alley out back.) While it looks like a saloon inside, they are set up as a diner complete with friendly waitresses and lots of breakfast food. Anything can be ordered a la carte, but they have embraced their history and location and named many of their breakfast dishes after Portland's bridges. My sister-in-law enjoyed her Florentine Eggs Benedict while my wife got the bridge with the Corned Beef Hash. I don't normally go for it, but I ordered the bridge with the Chicken Fried Steak and gravy and was surprised at how much I liked it. Amazing food? None of it. But a fantastic breakfast? Heck yeah! If you find yourself in Portland, this is a place to try to find.

Not as good as I expected it to be

By Tori_T2U |

The location is great, and we were able to sit outside on the deck next to an open window, which we appreciated. I really wanted to like this place, but there were a few issues that would keep me from returning. The service was average, though the girl wasn't thrilled about our friendly request to light the heater as the evening was getting chilly, and while she brought the requested mustard, it was clear she didn't appreciate the request. She sent someone else out to refill my husband's coffee, and when he said "thank you, how did you know?" with a smile, the girl said she was told to do it. My husband really liked his club sandwich, which was untoasted as requested and stuffed with plenty of turkey and salami and had nice slices of tomato. He ate it all. But I ordered the Howard's dip, and quite honestly, it was the worst french dip sandwich I've ever had, and I've had many as that is my to-go-to menu item and which is what made us want to eat there. The roll didn't taste fresh or flavorful, the meat may have been fresh, but it was hard to tell, and the dip didn't have much flavor either. The Howard's dip is a french dip with added onions and cheese, which also added pretty much no flavor. I was extremely disappointed with the quantity and the quality. I ordered the clam chowder as my side, and it was flour-thick, but did have the requisite chunks of potatoes and chewy clams--without much flavor again. I've had much better. Maybe breakfast would have been better? I had hoped this would be a new discovery for us as we are always looking for a fun new delicious place to hang out--especially on the deck in the summer, but this wasn't it.

If I lived in Portland, The Dockside would be my daily choice for breakfast!

The Dockside breakfast is terrific! Everything on the menu is delicious and the service is always friendly and fast!

Worth the trouble parking

By Cindy F |

Construction galore going on. Don't let it stop you from trying this place. Great chowder, great Reuben, great tuna sandwich, great tequila sunrise, great tater salad, great place in the middle of a changing neighborhood. Very friendly and attentive service. We will be back.

Great Atmosphere

By HummerBob |

A great little place harkening back to the days of blue collar bars and greasy spoons. Famous as the place where evidence in the Tonya Harding/Nancey Kerrigan case was found in the dumpster. Customers range from judges to railroad workers. Watch the switchers go by right outside the window. Excellent food and service. Breakfast all day. A regular stop.

Best bacon in town

By Nancy A |

Our group frequently eats here on Saturdays. It's really funky -- old Portland, lots of regulars. One friend proclaims biscuits and gravy the "best" in town. I like french toast and bacon (yes, the best in town). Their eggs Benedict is excellent. Vegetable omelette also really good. It's a bit of a walk, but you can get there by walking along the river, then taking Naito Parkway -- or going through NW Portland (like, down 18th), then turning. Funky. Good food.

Great Breakfasts

By CoLoRaDoSkY1876 |

Our friends live very close to the Dockside so after a short, five minute walk, we arrive ready for breakfast. All of the "bridge" breakfasts are named after the many different type bridges in Portland. These people are bridge freaks. There's even a picture of the owners biking across the Fremont Bridge on opening day. Depending on what you're in the mood for, choose your bridge wisely! Good sized portions & tasty. Strangely enough, they even have video lottery games in a sequestered corner of the dining room. Funky atmosphere & great service. Absolutely no doubt I'll be returning!

Breakfast

The Dockside Restaurant is a great place to have breakfast. They have a great selection, the food is always good, and the staff is outstanding. If you have never been there be sure and try it out.

"THE" Breakfast Place

By IssaquahBob |

Sunday morning was breakfast day at the Dockside Saloon & Restaurant2047 N.W. Front Ave, Portland, OR (503-24-6433). This place is widely known and appreciated. Three of us arrived around 9 AM and there wasn't a free table in the place; we had about a 20 minute wait but the food was worth it! They have an extensive breakfast menu but I reverted to my favorite - bacon & cheese omelette. A full breakfast will run about $12/person. The servings are plentiful. A must place for me when in Portland.

It's What's Inside that Counts!

By caroledc2015 |

We were hungry on a Saturday afternoon and decided to stop on in at the Dockside. It looks little sketchy on the outside, but the friendly smiles of the staff make up for it. The restaurant was pretty full, which is a good sign! There is breakfast and many lunch choices as well. The only puzzling thing was that when we ordered sandwiches at 12:25pm we were told we would have to wait about 5 minutes since they weren't serving lunch yet. A little strange? The food was served hot and was flavorful. The slide salad was just a plate of iceberg lettuce but the sandwiches were great! I am glad we stopped in!

New Girl is Awesome!

By OregonDuck09 |

Have been a regular at this place for 5 years. Service is great. They have a great taco night on Tuesdays and spaghetti night on Wednesday evenings and they get quite busy. Don't expect much in atmosphere, pretty much a dive with good food.

Excellent Breakfast and Lunch House

By Daverb2003 |

I have been dining at the Dockside for breakfast/lunch (and an occasional adult beverage after work) for over two decades. The service is always quick, the food hot and plentiful and the prices fair. You can always count on the Dockside.

The weekend breakfast is Amazing

By Jefftimb |

This local gem serves the best down home breakfast in the Pearl District. Good , hot coffee, great bloody Marys, but best of all the eggs, omelets and pancakes. Not to mention the crispy hash browns. The owned is one of the servers and she runs a tight, but friendly ship.

Perfect hashbrowns

By anilif |

As always a great meal. The hashbrowns were perfect, bloddy marys slightly spicy. We'll be back again.
