Reunion

BEST SUSHI In Philadelphia hands down I've eaten at just about every sushi place in the city of brotherly love and this one takes the cake they serve both authentic Japanese and Korean. Prices are very rational and the food portions are very large I highly recommend the Bibimbap but be aware that you probably won't have to eat for a while it's very filling.Service was excellent we stayed about two hours and they were always hospitable. Two thumbs up!

Interesting sushi, fresh.

The decor of Doma is very space age. The service is attentive, and the food is fresh and well prepared. Wonderful sushi option if you are visiting Philly.

Great sushi and more

By Ellen S |

Their sushi is terrific and they have many unusual combos. They also serve Korean dishes. I loved the kalbi sticks.

Fantastic food!!

By 956nooras |

Absolutely delicious food. Warmly recommended. Not the kid-friendliest but good food makes it worth! Also take aways.

sushi is first rate

By chipw374 |

we've been to doma three times within the past couple of months. the decor is clean, contemporary, and quite pleasing. the sushi is creative, fresh, and absolutely delicious. it has been full virtually every time we've eaten there, even late sunday evening. we have not waited long for food during any visit, and i find the staff to be quite friendly. it's surprising there are only two reviews, we have heard a lot of buss about the place and anyone in the know seems to be aware of it.

Nice service and food

By Imbach77 |

We also did BYOB- interesting/ unknown approach in Europe. Very sympathic service- available but not „closely followong up“ - as usual in US. High quality food.

Thumbs Up!

Read about this place on the web and, given the very positive opinions, decided to try it - take my husband out for his b'day. The restaurant has a minimalist, sleek decor done in whites and light wood. It sits 40, and is staffed with young, helpful, attentive personnel. Armed with a bottle of sake, we came prepared to feast. For appetizers, we got the stuffed jalapeño tempura (fab!) and monk fish pate (an acquired taste). The main course consisted of the Doma roll (assorted sashimi, mango, avocado, spicy sprouts, tobiko wrapped with thinly sliced cucumber, yuzu sauce), Triple Spicy Double Tuna roll, Nigiri of sea eel, sweet shrimp, clam, Spanish mackerel, veggie roll, and (because we couldn't get enough) tofu pockets and Spicy Crunchy Tuna Handroll. It was delicious, fresh, promptly served with a smile and a mountain of ginger ( per my request). As a "cherry on top", we shared an order of strawberry mochi with chocolate dip - which you must try: it is unbelievable!! Make the trip: you will enjoy the food and the cool ambience.Leave the little kids behind; this BYOB spot is great for an adventuresome Asian gastronomic meal, first date, or girlfrends' dinner.

Food from the heart

Great Sushi in Philly

By davsprt714 |

Friends of mine have been coming here for a long time because of the excellent and fresh sushi and sashimi. They have a great Lunch Special menu until 2;30 with many variety deals. I had the Sashimi lunch of 12 pieces of various fish...totally fresh and clean. I also had a Doma Roll and a Dragon Roll(in pictures) both done well, but I loved the eel in the Dragon Roll. My server Kyle did a great job and assisted me when needed, good job! Thanks for staying open for me when I stayed a little longer than I should have.

Great Korean and Japanese BYO near Barnes

By Michael S |

The best thing about Doma are the options: Japanese or Korean, traditional and more contemporary fusion items, and price range from quite lavish to relatively reasonable. This makes it a great place for an elaborate meal or a more modest lunch or dinner or for a group with different food preferences. Probably the best of the restaurant row along 1900 Callowhill and this a very strong group, with Rose Tattoo, King of Tandoor, Sabrina's Pizzeria Vetri, and Kite & Key.

Reasonably price — excellent service and food

By QuakerTruth |

I will go back! I had a delicious lunch —a tofu bento box which included California roll, salad, tofu with sautéed veggies — very tasty. It’s clean and the service was friendly and efficient. They brought complimentary edamame for us as well. Well done Doma!

Doma is Amazing

By Alex K |

This is probably the most underrated sushi restaurant in Philadelphia. This place could go toe to toe with Morimoto or Zama any day of the week and it would be too close to call. In addition to just unbelievable sushi this place has a Korean flair. They have an amazing hwe dup bap salad (sashimi salad with a spicy gochujang sauce) and a shrimp and calamari bibimbap. The only downfall to this restaurant is the size, it is very small, but maybe that's why it's so good.

Great Food Friendly Staff

By Jeffrey B |

We enjoy this tiny sushi restaurant frequently. The staff is always pleasant and food is always tasty and fresh. Helps to make a reservation because the place is small

Secret Sushi Gem

By Jared M |

This place isn't as well known as Morimoto's, but the sushi here rivals theirs. It's a cozy little restaurant with stunning decor. The fish is all fresh and they have some great saki options. Our server was quick and nice. If you're looking for some of the best sushi in the city and don't want to drop a fortune, come to Doma.

Favorite sushi spot in Philly

By shava |

Doma has it all - good vibes/atmosphere, great appetizer selection and good sushi of course, and great prices. Doma is one of my go-to gems in Philly. Recommendations: Jalapeno tempura (appetizer) Kani salad (not on the menu but you can still order it and i love it) Kalbi beef skewers I love all the sushi i've tried so far (don't have a favorite)

Really 4.5 stars

By Frank I |

The restaurant is small but bright and clean. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. But the food is very, very good. The entrees seem to be more Korean than Japanese, so I was not familiar with them, but my family enjoyed all of them greatly. I recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Family Celebration

By BuzzRose |

We selected Domi because it was close to where my mother lives and we can easily get her in her wheel chair there. The rest of the part was my children and grandchildren. Everyone enjoyed the food. My mother really liked the sea bass and the miso soup. I really liked the rock shrimp and the Bibimap (come hungry it is a lot to eat - a little spicy but not overwhelming). The rest of the part order sushi and it was all gone by the end of the meal. The staff was very good at accommodating the wheel chair and young children. The only negatives are that the place is very small and a little difficult to get around, tables are close together and a bit noisy. Reservations are a must because it fills up.

Maybe good food but horrible service and attitude

By Paul E |

Pros: Interesting menu, great location near the Barnes Museum, Free Library and Parkway. Tasty food (perhaps) Cons: Very noisy and most important, an inability by the kitchen to get food out in a reasonable time. We ordered food when the restaurant was about 3/4 full, and were still waiting for our main entrees an hour later (the salad, one appetizer and "Korean tacos" were tasty though). Despite several reminders about missing food and our need to leave soon, the waiter was unable to produce it. The manager, rather than being apologetic, insisted that we pay for food not delivered, offering to pack it for take-away (but if was available for take-away then why not serve it!!). It seems that the restaurant is simply not able to promptly serve a moderately full dining room, and to boot has a manager who doesn't get it. Bottom line - If time is of no concern, and you don't need to get to those timed events, try this place. Otherwise go elsewhere.

Small Space

By David L |

Doma is a slightly hard to find Japanese/Korean restaurant within walking distance to the museums on Ben Franklin Parkway. Two families with young children walked here from Franklin Institute on a gorgeous Saturday in January. There was a couple of street parking spots near the restaurant, but it appears that most patrons walk to this restaurant from the surrounding neighborhoods. A tad before noon, and the restaurant was empty when we walked in. We occupied a long table that seated about 8 (we had 4 adults and 3 children in our party). The space is a little tight as the dining area is very narrow. The food was good and reasonably priced. It's mostly Japanese with a handful of Korean dishes. I had the duk bok ki appetizer, which was prepared a little differently than it would be made traditionally in Korea. Larger rice cakes that appeared to be finished off with a bit of toasting. The boys shared a tempura udon and california roll combo, which was priced right and I really liked the broth of the udon. My bento box was also reasonably priced, but the bulgogi was a little oversauced. I opted for the roll instead of the white rice, so I had nothing to offset the the flavor. Overall, a good experience, but the restaurant could use a little more space.

Fine For a Quick Bite

By noelheacock |

If you are in the area and want to grab a quick bite Doma is fine. The service is very rushed and the food is mediocre. Our dinner was served before we finished appetizers. The sushi, sashimi and roll was not by any means the best we have had.

Sushi near the sights

By Nancy S |

Excellent, fresh sushi in a cozy, cool, contempory venue. Close to major tourist stops in the arts district - Philadelphia Museum, Barnes Foundation, Rodin Museum, Franklin Institute, etc. and a short walk from the a Mutter Museum and Eastern State Penitentiary. The bar scene and outdoor seating are N/A ( not terrible but I couldn't "unclick")

The Best Sushi and great value!

By Ian M |

Really high quality ingredients are obvious. We ate there two nights running as we had such a great meal the first evening! Between us we must have eaten everything on the menu. My colleagues is gluten allergic and they had great options for her as well. I will go to Domo again, business or pleasure! It is bring your own beer - great fun!

Great menu, food, and service!

By Mama22qtpies |

Nice little spot with a great menu..lots to choose from. We had Miso soup, Pork Gyoza, a sushi roll, and Katsu chicken. Everything was delicious. The service was great as well.

Nice Place to Dine

By niksk001 |

Very nice casual restaurant with a good food selection, primarily Japanese. Excellent service and reasonable prices.

Very good sushi, trendy atmosphere, ok service

By UAAJC |

The fish is fresh, portions are good and the presentation creative. The atmosphere is nice, clean and modern. Service wasn't terrible, but a little inattentive and we had to flag someone down for drink refills and to ultimately get the check. All in all, a very good Philly option and one that I would recoomend/return to.

Delicious sushi

By Ramadama |

We ordered the sashimi deluxe with rice, the mango salmon roll and a salmon avocado roll. Everything was delicious. The service was great and this is a byob restaurant.

Awesome, upscale light!

By iStefPayne |

Our experience here was outstanding! We brought our own wine, ordered in waves, talked all night and eventually closed the place down... and without one glare from any of the staff. Delightful service, comfortable upscale atmosphere without being stuffy, and the hamachi crudo is crazy delicious. I can't wait to go back to Philly just to eat here.

Excellent dinner

By Sharalike |

The concierge at the Sheraton highly recommended this place. We had two picky kids with us that absolutely loved the food. They went above and beyond to modify something on the menu for the littlest and she loved her fried calamari. It was definitely our favorite place we ate while in Philly. The customer service was excellent. Don’t let the outside full you. Inside is beautiful. We would definitely go again should be ever visit Philly.

Almost Perfect

By Cait |

Their sushi is creative and exceptional. The service is fast and attentive. I've never tried the Korean bbq, but heard it's amazing as well. It's a great casual or date spot, and it's BYOB!

Fabulous

By Carcathmat |

A friend recommended this Japanese/Korean restaurant for a Friday night and we took out of town guests here. Out friend was on the mark! Our guests and we were overwhelmed with the food and service. Our waiter was both friendly and helpful in making suggestions and explaining each menu item. Every one of the 5 dishes we shared was outstanding. The tuna and guacamole served with triangular toasts was like nothing we had ever had -- simply delicious -- as was the bimibop. We didn't need dessert but were glad we ordered it -- great ice cream, strawberries and chocolate lava cake. The bill was half what we thought it would be! This was an outstanding meal and equally outstanding value. Don't miss this place! We will be back.

Highly recommend

By Lisa B |

My family and I didn’t have a reservation but they quickly accommodated our party of five. We ordered the vegetable tempura and edamame as appetizers. Both were delicious. I asked the server for his recommendations on their best sushi, and he told me about their Nirvana, which is their veggie roll, and the rock ‘n’ roll both were absolutely delicious. If I lived in the area I would go there all of the time. Highly recommend.

Excellent sushi in a delightful family atmosphere

By skcoa2018 |

Doma is just outside of center city, but still very convenient to most of the attractions. It's small and charming. The owner is usually there. I don't know if the rest of the staff is related, but it feels like they are. The sushi is delicious. The Korean food is delicious. Great stop if you want a solid lunch or dinner, at a reasonable price.

Sweet Staff and Tasty Food

By Victoria P |

My friend and I went to Doma on a Friday night for dinner. The staff was very friendly and attentive and maintained a family atmosphere in the restaurant. We split a bunch of sushi rolls and appetizers and all of the food was excellent and the prices were decent - we paid about $30 for four sushi rolls, two appetizers, and dessert. The restaurant size was small, so be prepared to be a little crowded.

Got Sick

By Richard M |

While the appearance of the food was very good, it actually lacked much flavor. All three of us shared notes the following morning and learned that we had all spent much of the previous night sick in the bathroom.

Neat, clean and delicious food!

By Traveler |

Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I had salmon teriyaki, which was excellent and someone else had chilean sea bass- which she said also was delicious. My husband had hot stone bibimpap- a Korean dish cooked in a stone pot, which he thought was fabulous and I tasted and would definitely order the next time (but don't put your plastic chop stick in the pot! - we wondered why the server brought wood ones for him...). The server was very friendly and helpful in describing the dishes and helping us make choices. Parking is a bit tricky- but well worth the effort. All in all a very enjoyable dining experience on a Saturday night.

Exceptional- wow!!

By smjbab |

some of the best sushi I've ever had. I can't speak about special rolls- like tons of tempura and roe and sauce, that's not the type of sushi I eat. This restaurant certainly may have that, I tend to the plainer things like spicy tuna roll, salmon sushi. However, the fish was amazingly fresh and seemed extremely high quality. It was like a crisp, cool, clean taste of the ocean.

YUM

By carenms |

Unique and fun sushi combos. Korean bimibop and other delish foods to try. BYOB. Make a reservation because it can be very crowded.

great find

Liked my chirashi

By KC_in_NY |

Needed to have a quick lunch and found this place near my hotel. Ordered the chirashi and it was delicious. The fish was fresh and the vegetables were cut fine. I wish I could have tried more, but didn't have the time. I would have given this dish 3.5 stars.

OK sushi, but not great

By PFT56067 |

I ate at Doma since it was near my hotel and it had good online reviews. When I ordered the sushi-sashmi combination, the waitress told me that it was a lot of work for the sushi chefs to prepare. I said that I was willing to wait. Later, she came back and asked me if I had any allergies, or was unwilling to eat any items. I told her that I ate all sorts of sushi and sashimi. After we finished this strange negotiation, and my dinner actually arrived, it was underwhelming. It certainly was not bad, but not great. The place is small and the people who work there are pretentious. There are much better places to eat in Philadelphia.

Excellent sushi

By d696969 |

Had dinner with another couple on a Saturday night. Restaurant has both Japanese and Korean items on the menu. We all had some form of sushi. Sushi was fresh, and we all enjoyed our meals. They had several special rolls which were much different than your run of the mill sushi place. The only downside to this restaurant that it was extremely loud. We had to shout during our entire meal, as well as when we spoke to the waitress. It is a small restaurant with only about 15 or so tables which are very close together, so if you are looking for a quiet, romantic evening, this isn't the place.

Great sushi spot near the free library

By Juls423 |

A great little sushi place a block from the Philadelphia Free Library. I met a few friends here before an author event at the library. We admittedly went a little over board and ordered 2 appetizers and 5 rolls (all specialty ones). We had so much food, we took about 2 rolls to go and two of us ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. The bill totaled $100, but the 3 of us could've easily eaten for under $50 if we hadn't gone overboard wanting to try so many different specialty rolls. The appetizers were decent but the rolls were amazing. Everything was fresh and exquisitely displayed. Our server was attentive but not obtrusive. The atmosphere and dress code were casual and the restaurant was clean and modern. I'll definitely return!

Excellent

By Nora C |

Absolutely lovely evening. A perfect hidden gem. The atmosphere of Doma is perfect for a night out. It is BYOB, so plan accordingly. The food was Excellent! From the sushi to apps to our main course. We were with a other couple who eat here regularly, so they ordered all of our courses. The staff is very friendly and willing to assist with help of the menu. Seems like the locals know of this spot. We went on a Wednesday and the place was busy!

Contemporary yet authentic

Very cute, simple, fresh, delicious restaurant.. feels like a family run place. Wide variety and great service. More people should know about this place

Excellent Japanese and Korean food

By GourmetWaynePA |

This small, highly functional restaurant on Callowhill serves really good Japanese and Korean food. Our group (we eat out a lot) really enjoyed our dinner. The service was attentive. They are BYOB and very reasonably priced

Delicious food - great interior decor!

We stopped by this BYOB restaurant for dinner. The interior design is uniquely decorated. Service is fast and friendly. Loved the Sushi and oysters!
