Don Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant has great Mexican food. This place is usually crowded with locals. Great service with plenty of room to have Anniversary or birthday party’s. Prices are reasonable don’t have to float a loan or need reservations. At night they will have Mariachis (not so much)????? You need to try this place on the Southside of San Antonio. Also they have a great bar.

There's a lot of good Mexican food in San Antonio but this place is definitely one of the best. The people who work here are so wonderful. If you are in San Antonio this is one of the places you have to try. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Great place to eat. Had a wonderful time and food was delicious. Took desert home. Can’t wait to eat it!

The food was terrible I would never recommend this place, besides the bad service and dirty restaurant, the food tasted and looked nasty. It USED TO be good now don't even bother making reservations. It is also very expensive for the food they serve.

Casual Mexican where you will find tons of locals who KNOW Mexican food. Really good margaritas to get you started and a good appetizer selection. If you love piping hot melted cheese than they have a great appetizer for you. Had a steak combo with cheese enchiladas. Very good and great price.

We spent ten days in San Antonio and we ate here twice. Outstanding Mexican food. We had fajitas which were so good. This is a really large restaurant but the wait staff is excellent. The huge wooden doors make you feel as though you are entering an old castle. On Sunday, we had our grandson with us and when they brought the dessert tray out, it was awesome.. He decided on a wonderful gooey piece of cake. Prices are reasonable

I always visit this place for lunch when i make it to town but i know they are open late too. Service is quick, food is good, and so are prices.

I love Tex-mex and can eat it just about everyday. The queso was delicious and chicken enchiladas were decent. Location is huge, so no problem accommodating large parties.

Don Pedro's is a long time family owned and operated restaurant with truly authentic food. Its a bit inconvenient for tourists as it ten or so miles from downtown, but if you live here and/or willing to drive a bit out of the way, you won't be disappointed. My favorite is the cheese enchiladas with beef chili sauce. All the staff are good, but Adrian is the best.

I have been going to Don Pedro's for over 40 years. I now only go on rare occassions when I visit my family since I have been located out of state for many years. I have seen this restaurant go from a little business to a gigantic one. The food here is always great, the atmosphere is authentic and the wait staff is great. Try something different each time and you will not be disappointed.

Don Pedro’s has been favorite stop of the family’s for years! It remains a great place to eat! The cheese and onion enchiladas with chili sauce were yummy! We will keep going back every trip to the SA area !

We arrived at 8:30 on a Tuesday night and the place was packed. We only has a true 15 minutes wait. Even though it was busy our waiter was very attentive and the food was fantastic. We tipped 20% because everything was so good.

I just returned from a vacation out of the country. My wife and I immediately went to Don Pedro for a Mexican meal - it's a tradition for us, we love Mexican food and they don't have much of it in many places we vacation. We've lived in San Antonio for twenty years and I know the local food well. This is well off the beaten track for any tourist. But if you want an Authentic experience, DELICIOUS food and don't want to pay tourist prices (the daily specials and standards at the restaurant are priced low). the food quality is unsurpassed. Every thursday their special is Chicken Mole. That is a chicken dish served in a spicy mexican mole sauce. People from all over the city drive down for the dish and they frequently are sold out of it before lunch is over. Try some of the non tourist dishes like Steak Tampequeno (one of the most expensive dishes on the menu - a thin but delicious grilled steak served with, of course, rice, beans and guacamole. the marinade on the steak makes this dish particularly savory. The "quickie plate" is one of the most economical dishes on the menu yet, if you like enchiladas, you won't find a better enchilada plate even in MEXICO. Tuesdays are "costilla de res" special day. Small short ribs cooked to perfection and falling off the bone. Exceptional. Most of the daily specials are priced below $11. Everything is prepared from scratch. The restaurant is owned and operated by a well respected San Antonio family who are always in the restaurant insuring that things are running smoothly. My wife and I can always tell which table is having the best time laughing raucously. Usually there are a few empty margarita glasses on that table (the Margaritas are only $3.99).

This is the best mexican food I've had in a while. Enchiladas were very good. Fajitas are tender, great flavor. Beans and rice are also very good. I have no complaints. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants really good, affordable mexican food. Waitress was nice as well.

Have been eating here since high school (1976) and still go back every time I'm back in town. Puffy chicken tacos are still my favorite.

Don Pedro's is an institution. My boyfriend and his family have been going for years. Food is average and comes out within moments of ordering. We went the other night, and asked to see a bar menu (we wanted a margarita). The waiter stated there was no bar menu, they had everything (i think he thought we were touristas). We ordered margarita rocks and were shocked when the price was $16 each, not to mention they were just okay. C'mon this is San Antonio afterall....Margarita's are everywhere. $16 dollar margarita's are usually reserved for the poor unknowing victims on the riverwalk. So disappointing!

Nice family style restaurant. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was quick and friendly.

Great place to enjoy Mexican food when visiting San Antonio, Texas. The wait staff is very good. It is great place to bring the family.

This is our "go to" restaurant in San Antonio. Some of the best, and most authentic, Mexican food to be found in the area.

Many of my guests are looking for a restaurant that is NOT a chain but a place run by local and that the locals choose to frequent. Don Pedro's is the place for home cooked Tex Mex meals, snack and margaritas. Look for mariachis on weekends and a lively atmosphere with all the classic Mexican dishes as well as some American standby meals. Don't worry, unless the menu specifies "HOT" the dish is mostly mild but can be spiced up to your preference with their delicious salsa. Moderately priced and open very late.

Just ate at Don Pedro's -- was wonderful, service, food, atmosphere ... Had the nacho reancheros very good .... Would recomend this Mexican restaurant...

We were staying in south San Antonio and this restaurant was recomended to us. There were eight of us and we were able to get seated very quickly on a Wednesday night. The service was very good and the food, while average, came pretty quickly.

Employees arev very nice wit customers and food is great, for a mexican restaurant in United states, their recipies are good and very alike to real mexican food

My family and were in town for a funeral and we decided to stop here to eat. Big mistake! We sat down and ordered our food. It took an hour to get our food and it was all wrong. They messed everyone of orders except for one. There was 6 of us. The food had no flavor even after salting the food which I never do. But I had to add salt to try and give the food some flavor. The chili that was poured over EVERYTHING was canned wolf brand chili. Finally as if the bad service and bad food wasn't enough we get our check and its wrong too. We had wait there at least 30 minutes while the manager tried to make since of the check. Somethings we were charged twice for and we were charged for the food that they messed and had to re-do. I have never in my life ever had this many problems at a restaurant. I am usually an easy person to please but this was just ridiculous.

Good price, excellent service, and wow!!!! delicious

It was suggested that we try Don Pedro's. The Service was pretty good and the atmosphere wasn't to bad however, the food was very bland. The chips and salsa was good well, had a good spice. Just not our idea of a good Mexican food restaurant Sorry. Good eating, JK.

Best Mexican food in the area. Cheese enchiladas, rice and beans (the Quickie" plate) is my all time favorite followed shortly by the Steak Tapequena. Customer service from the greeters to the servers is always pristine.

I gave this restaurant 5 stars because there wasn't an option for 10 stars. This was the best Mexican food I have had in years. The food was fabulous. The service was incredible. Roxana was our server. She didn't treat us like we were guests in a place where she works. She treated us like we were guests in her home. The flour tortillas were the best I have ever had at a restaurant. . I only wish I lived closer to the restaurant. If you are ever in San Antonio don't miss the chance to eat at Don Pedro's it might be as memorable as the Alamo.

First off, the waiter we got kept mumbling and couldn't understand what he was saying. The sweet tea tasted more like sweet water. Chips were stale, "salsa" was more like ketchup with Tabasco. The queso flameado was ehhh. Their "signature" chili tastes like wolf brand. Rice and beans were bland. And the puffy taco had no flavor, I had to add salt and the Tabasco ketchup mixture to give it some type of flavor. Only good thing was the lettuce.

We had a birthday party Monday January 26th, we had people drive in from east of Victoria to as close as the northwest side of San Antonio, I myself and family drove in from Natalia. There were 11 people at our table. My wife and I have been eating at Don Pedros since the early 70's when the original owners were still there. The food was luke warm the service was slow and the price is a little expensive for the quantity and quality. I was disappointed to say the lease. I would suggest a little more emphasis on quality and then quantity. I hope you will take my suggestions.

#1 Mexican Plate includes two cheese enchiladas smothered with chili con carne, one beef puffy taco, rice and Refried beans, two flour tortillas.

Great service and cheap good food in this casual mom & pop locale. We ended up eating here twice on our trip to SA.

I've tried others and trust me, good stuff. They also have great food, great service. It always seems busy but the waiters are quick and it seems a table is always available.

The food was good, the margarita average, but the service was absolutely the best we've had in a long time. The waiter was very attentive, professional, and the entire restaurant was immaculate---including the parking lot & restrooms.

We eat here 2 or 3 times a month. They have the BEST drinks in town. You can get a jumbo margarita for about $10. The queso flameado is a must and delicious. My husband swears by the chicken fried steak. My go to is the cheese enchiladas. The fajitas and flautas are also recommended. If all else fails they can make you just about anything at the bar. If your looking for breakfast they have a buffet on the weekends that's AMAZING!

My plate had two hairs in it. Disgusting and I won’t go back. My husband had the chicken soup and enjoyed it. My MIL had the entomatados and she enjoyed them. Service was fine and the waitress was friendly. I guess it just wasn’t my night at this restaurant.

This is a restaurant I have been going to since I was about 5 years old. The menu is definitely NOT what it used to be. They have always been known for their "Quickie Plate" consisting of 2 cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Their enchiladas used to be smothered in their carne guisada type of sauce but they aren't anymore. It is now drowning in chili powder, their rice has no seasoning anymore (tastes like just tomato sauce with no cumino or garlic), and their beans taste like they're from a can (used to actually taste like refried beans with manteca). Their prices are now getting ridiculous and their food is now sub-par.

Spicy chips and salsa, amazing service, fun atmosphere, but the food was only so-so. Soggy tortillas, dry rice. The meat was seasoned well and it was all served hot though!

This might be the best Mexican food in San Antonio. The service was outstanding, and the food was quick to the table. We started with the margaritas, which were tasty. Ordered the carne assado plate and it was perfect. The had a taco shell salad with fajitas on top, very good. Finish with their homemade flan. It was the best I've had in town.

They are locally owned but have lost their touch. I bought some beef Fajitas, and most of them were burnt and dry. I have had other plates there and they have been ok. This time it was too go so I guess they think it's ok just serve these to someone.

I met one of the owners of Don Pedro when he and his wife were visiting Las Vegas for their anniversary, so it was only fitting that when my wife and I went to San Antonio for our anniversary we stopped in to check it out. We took a cab from downtown to the restaurant (about 17.00), and were seated right away. They start you with chips and salsa which were very good. (the salsa is spicy!!) My wife had the Chicken Flauta plate, and I had the Chili Relleno plate. My wife is somewhat of a connoisseur and we agree that both were what authentic mexican food is supposed to be!

Good food but the service was slow. Our daughter got the the number one plate and she enjoyed it. My husband got the nachos and our granddaughter had the taquito kids meal and I had the chicken fajita salad we were all pleased. The waiter though we had to ask for refills more than once and our to go box, and he never brought our granddaughter a spoon like we had asked, and took a lengthy time to get our bill.

This restaurant isn't worth going to. I'd have given 0 stars if possible. We eat better Mexican food in Fort Pierce, FL Taco were greasy. Food had no flavor. I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants and this was unquestionably the worst ever!. Our Mexican/American friends with us said "better Mexican food at Chinese buffet".

Went there for lunch today, service was good didn't have wait long for a table... had sizzling combination beef and chicken fajitas.. waiter didn't give his name, this is important to me...but on service and food was a great experience...

Our waitress had a big problem with listening. There were 5 in our party and before we finished our drink order, she looked at us and said "ok, 5 waters" and took off! We wanted tea, margaritas, and wine but had to wait till she came back with FOUR waters to give her our drink orders. One person in our party didn't get his food because she flat out didn't place his order! To apologize, she offered a free desert. How bout giving him a free dinner? This is San Antonio people. Too many awesome Mexican restaurants to choose with much better service!

This is (arguably) the best Mexican restaurant in all of San Antonio. It is easy to find great Mexican food in this area and Don Pedro's is at the top of the list. Its a little off the beaten path but not hard to find.

My cousin wanted to have all our family together for her parents' anniversary. So we came from across Texas to this restaurant. They happily put together a huge group of tables for us. As for the food- while I can understand how it is a good neighborhood joint, I wouldn't travel out of my way for it. The puffy tacos were disappointing- mushy masa and bland filling. There are much better to be had other places in San Antonio. The other food was just so-so. The margaritas were excellent.

You can't beat the Parrilladas platter for 4 or more people. It comes with Agujas, Pollo al Carbón, Costillas al Horno, Chorizo al Carbón (Country Sausage) and Queso Flameado. I got that off the menu, but it's essentially half a chicken, 3 steaks, 3 or so ribs (like Korean BBQ ribs), saugage and a chile relleno. Also comes with very good guacamole and pico de gallo and some of the best tortillas i've ever had at a restaurant. All that for $34. Margaritas are pretty good also. The restaurant can be very noisy as it is very popular with big crowds and celebrations. Chips are good and sauce is spicy. I haven't had any other items on the menu other than the Parrilladas platter.

I've been here a few time over decades because of an event or invited, don't want to be the downer. The food is average to terrible every time. Drinks are okay, cheap for happy hour. Maybe people get drunk and then they'll eat anything? Back in the day it was known as Don Pedos.

Good quality Mexican fare, attentive and friendly service in a casual setting. Ample serving size ... we were there for lunch and had enough left over for breakfast the next day.

Got invited to join son and daughter-in-law for lunch. This place is huge and had no problem seating 20! Good service, food, and quality. We will return!

If you want good Mexican food this is where u need to be.The waiters and staff are very friendly they offer an all you could eat buffet

After a long day at work wanted some good Mexican food so stopped here. Waiter and food were great. The queso flameado was one of the best I have had. Portions were big and drinks were good. They also have a mariachi band that is very good but if you look at them for split second they will be at your table and stay there for awhile. All in all a great experience and will definitely be back next time I am in town.

The chips and hot sauce were great, service was excellent. Fajitas were the best I've had in as long as I can remember and I order fajitas a lot and eat out almost everyday. Great energy in this place and easy parking. Will definitely go again.

We were in San Antonio for Fiesta and were looking for somewhere to eat with my in-laws pretty late and the two locations we headed to were so packed so my mother in law suggested don pedros. I was pretty tired from several days of activities in the heat and going here and there that I just went along for the ride because I was still full from the pig stand four hours earlier so I just ordered a small plate with their cheese enchiladas beans and rice and after the first bite I finished the plate. They were the best I have ever had, all because their chili sauce is so good. My wife and I have talked about that chili sauce since so I went online and found the recipe. Yay, won’t be the same, but I can try to get close to it. The staff was great. We did not realize they were to close for the day soon and the whole staff waited for us to finish eating to close up and go home. Never once did they rush us out or did we sense they were impatient about us eating. As we left they all thanked us for visiting their restaurant. Our waitress was awesome and wish I remembered her name, but she was awesome. I have only one complaint about don Pedro’s and that is they are not here in California, but I will most definitely be sure to eat there every time we visit the in-laws. Thank you don pedro for a great finish to our trip to San Antonio. And as anyone who visits San Antonio knows, they love food, they love to feed you lots of food, and the food is great. You can not get food this good anywhere else in the planet. And the people are good people.

I’ve got to give it to my waitress, Mayra, she was an awesome, excellent, friendly waiter! She was so talkative and I saw her in action with all the other customers. I’ve given her an excellent score, an A +, You go Mayra!

I was very sad that my favorite place messed up my birthday dinner Saturday night 😔 we had a party of 10 with 2 children. We anticipated a wait as there usually is and surprisingly it was only about 30 minutes. We ordered 2 appetizers and placed our food order. Half our table got food, the other half did not, including myself, the birthday girl. Come to find out the printer in the kitchen ran out of ink half way through our order being printed so our order was incomplete. It took awhile for them to figure this out, all the while my husbands food sat there getting cold since he didn't want to eat without me since it was my birthday dinner. The server attempted to get the remainder of the food out but it was already a disaster. I talked my husband into eating his food after it sat there over 20 mins while they tried to sort the mess out. My sister and I ended up canceling our meals since the majority of the table was done. And then finally comes my 10 year olds food. Overall extremely disappointed and not once did anyone other than the server apologize for something he had no control over. I'm pretty sure the managers were made aware and not once did they have the decency to come over to say a thing. Again, I'm extememly disappointed with Don Pedro's... this is not the restaurant I made it a point to visit every chance I could when I lived out of state and was in town to see family.

Our wait was minimal, our server was as sweet as could be, and the food was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!! Not to mention the unusual, yet amazing Strawberry Mango ChamoyRita! My family comes here often and plan to continue to do so!

Chips were ok, sauce was really good. Waiter was very attentive even though it was very busy. My plate with fajita strip steak was very good, as was the nacho plate. Kids cheese enchiladas tasted like it had velveeta or nacho sauce inside instead of real cheese. (One kid liked it, one didn't) Kids chicken strips were average. Meals were good sized portions and we had 2 boxes of leftovers. Would recommend and will go back

First off, chips were thick and stale. But that turned out to be a good thing because I did not eat the salsa and was able to pour it all over my bland food. And this lunch special was close to $9... I have to agree with the review below that the chili sauce is Wolf brand. I think this place stays open based on the nostalgia factor.

Absolutely & Fabulous Cabrito Tacos! We should have taken a picture, presentation was Beautiful! My husband enjoyed it thoroughly. It was my 1st time, so I had a few bites of his dinner. Yummy! I ordered Tacos de Puerco, lovely presentation again. The portions will NOT leave you hungry, you will most likely take it back home or come with friends or family to share! Our Server was a delightful young woman, Nallely, who is extremely attentive and great for callbacks! We definitely recommend this restaurant! You're in for a special treat!

Don't uber them, I ended up paying 32$ for a cold cheese enchilada and a spoon of cheese with a few strings of chicken. Called the restaurant and I just kept getting passed around from person to person. Missing a Chile relleno, taco and side of guacamole. A decent soup would be nice too.

I have visited this place often due to being close to my work and I am always in and out with great food n service!

No flavor at all in the food. Puffy beef tacos is super greasy and the beef is just dried out cooked ground meat. Tamales were smothered in sauce, taking away from taste or covering up for lack there of. Not worth the price.

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Super crowded, but we were shown a table right away. There were three of us in our party. Two of us ordered Taco al carbon and one ordered fajitas for one. The chips and salsa was very tasty. I had the 3 Tacos al carbon and I will tell you that they were very delicious! They were served with frijoles borrachos. We ordered rice on the side. We had an excellent waitress named Luz who was very attentive to all of our needs. We were visiting from out of town and I would definitely stop there my next time back in San Antonio!

Everything we had here was delicious. I ordered puffy tacos and my friend had the “small plate”. There was nothing small about her plate. Even the beans and rice was delicious and had good seasonings. The restaurant was very clean and had great service also.

My husband & I had dinner here we tried the cheese enchiladas plate in their menu it's #2 regular which includes 2 enchiladas topped with their very own delish PD chili gravy served with rice, beans, salad & your choice of 2 tortillas either corn or flour & to my surprise our order didn't take long at all when it was pretty packed that evening! A must try Great Mexican food for a Good price!

Our office group of 10 received excellent service and delicious food. From cold beer and chips to an amazing Tres Leches cake, we enjoyed it all. A great place to go with friends!

Had a very nice dinner. Enjoyed the company. Service was average. The puffy taco and cheese enchiladas were good.

Very good puffy tacos and enchiladas. Chips and sauce are tasty. Fajita nachos are very good and a huge portion. Margaritas are good too! Staff was friendly and attentive. Reasonably priced especially since portions are big.

Our server was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. We met family here because they really like this place, overall it was underwhelming for my wife and I. The food was decent but lacked seasoning, everything tasted pretty plain. The tortillas were the best part for me. I believe most people would enjoy it, just add salt and pepper and it should be better.

I recently visited Don Pedro restaurant on a recommendation from My Holiday Inn Hotel desk clerk. This turned out to be a great restaurant. The interior is well decorated and inviting. There is a nice bar by the entrance if you need to wait for a table. On this night we were seated right away and served two different salsas one hot and one mild with plenty of tortilla chips. Our waitress named Issy was super friendly and made several food recommendations which were absolutely some of the best Mexican food I have had. I would tell anyone in the area to stop here for a wonderful meal that is inexpensive.

I always love a visit here. I go to Don Pedro for Don Julio margaritas and Cabrito tacos and they do them right. They make huge margaritas that are flammable. I wish I could make a margarita at home that tastes as good as theirs. The cabrito (goat) tacos are delicious as are their asada street tacos and plates. Their parrilladas. plates of mixed grilled meats go by to large groups and look and smell amazing. The queso flameado is a sinful treat and if you pry your waiter a bit they will bring special hot salsas from the kitchen that are really good. Take a designated driver and go hungry you wont be disappointed. San Antonio is chocked full of good Mexican eateries but this place is a cut above. They have a billboard on IH35 near their exit of SW Military Drive with a picture of a jumbo marg and a taco plate and it just makes my mouth water every time I pass it on my way home. This place has been around a long time and is consistently wonderful. I leave stuffed and buzzed every time saying we need to come more often

Don Pedro's has a great atmosphere inside and the staff is extremely friendly. I have gone here a few times with family and I highly enjoy it. The food is delicious! If you're in the area, go here for sure!

Don Pedro's is a family favorite for us and has been for years for us. We enjoy taking guests here for authentic Mexican flavor experience.
Wish I could coment on the food
We did not have anything to eat just tasted the hot sauce. After sitting for 10 min and jo one coming to take our drink order I got up and talked to one of the 5 hostess. Got a drink order and after waiting another 15 min and no drinks our family decided unanimously to leave. Do not go to this place at a business time. We counted 5 hostess and only 3 servers. They sit you down quick but good luck after that. Stay away.
