Noodles prepared daily for flavorful pho

By SaW43 |

This family owned and run restaurant has been open for about two months. The fourth generation of noodle makers prepares their noodles daily. They are located in the International District in an airy, light filled place with pleasant art of dandelions painted by the owner's niece) on the walls. The service is inviting, warm, friendly and efficient. Grandparents and parents are actively involved. Their children are very well behaved. More importantly the noodles are excellent.

Huge Bowl

By bjplmp |

Got the bowl for 4 loaded with steak, meatballs, tripe and tendons. Service was friendly and quick. This giant bowl of Pho arrived for the 4 of us, it could have easily fed 8. It was very flavorful. We managed to finish it all, but were all miserably full.

Great service and wonderful food, once again!

We try to stop by Dong Thap everytime we come by Seattle. The food is incredible. The noodles are the best I've ever had. The owners are the best, so attentive and friendly. Thanks again from your Canadian friends!

Super Bowl!

By Mcarter4580 |

Honestly, we went for the "super bowl" - the "world's largest bowl of pho". Since we were not taking the challenge, we did not have to call ahead, we simply ordered 3 large "house special" pho and they put them all in the great big bowl. They also brought us individual bowls and a ladle. For two adults and two kids this was plenty of delicious food! The noodles are tasty and not chewy like some places. Having arrived at 10am on a Sunday there was plenty of space and no wait.

Best pho this side of the Pacific!!

By Mia |

This place is sooo delicious! I have eaten at a lot of pho places including ones throughout Vietnam. I can honestly say this is hands down authentic! Be sure to order a large side bowl, you'll be thankful you did. The homemade noodles are to die for!!

Great Pho in the Winter

By EndyBOSTON |

Had to try the Pho here, of course. Went for the XL bowl, very good size if you're starving. Otherwise, go for the smaller portions. The broth was flavorful, the veggies were right on as well. It was very good and would definitely come back to try something else, but would probably go for Pho again.

Great pho, long wait

By karag773 |

Great pho!! There was a long wait and several people in line in front of me gave up and left. I was alone, so the host put me at a table with another single woman. It was great to talk to and get to know a stranger, who happened to live here and gave me tons of great suggestions of what to see and where to eat. The pho was delicious, and the medium was a perfect amount of food for lunch. The place is very small and kind of looks like a hole in the wall but they have become famous from a Facebook/buzzfeed video about their giant bowls of pho. Pretty cool to see!! Only $9 and I was very full. Staff was very nice!

One of Seattle’s best pho places

By Steven T |

Seattle has great pho. It rivals Orange County and the East Bay in California and Houston, Texas. Dong Thap is one of Seattle’s best pho restaurants. They make their own noodles. How many pho restaurants make their own noodles? Not many. They also offer the “Super Bowl”, a huge bowl of pho for free if you can eat it in under an hour. Legend has it only a few impressive individuals have conquered the Super Bowl. My favorite is their pho ga (chicken pho). It features an ultra rich chicken broth perfumed with select herbs. They also use thigh meat which is much better tasting than breast meat which most pho places use.

Glad we went but not fantastic

By Jenn Allen |

Went during our trip to Seattle. My sister in law saw Dong Thap Noodles featured on a good channel show and wanted to go. We’re really into summer rolls and recently I’ve been eating my weight in pho😂. We were very excited to try this place. The wait staff was great, although the restaurant was smaller than I expected. We each ordered something different and it was good. The chicken could have been better, it seemed like chunks of dark meat instead of the sliced breast Im used to but that could be more authentic and I’m just not aware. Broth was good, it was nice that they had spice and hoisin available on the table. I’ve read the reviews about the home made noodles not being good but they were THE BEST PART. Probably wouldn’t go again to bring the family but would on a date night if we lived in the area.

Fresh noodles!

By Latifa |

Bun booooo bun booo bun booo what!!!! Fresh noodles?? Check!!! Super pretty décor? Check check! Clean, bright spot with awesome staff?? Triple check!! And tastiness that is all things pho and bun bo hue?? Ok fine: check x check x check galore!! Coming here during lunch time is not easy task but come evening, it is as easy as going for a walk on April 25th. Cause you know: it's a perfect day. Not too hot, not too cold. No lines! Walk right in! All you need is a light sweater a huge bowl of pho :D Bun bo hue is all I came here for but the pho totally won me over too!!! And that MASSIVE bowl challenge?? I can never do it in this life time but I'll be sure to pump someone up and talk them into doing it. Just so I can document the monstrosity of that huge bowl! HUGEEEEE! Ok so back to bun bo hue! It is super tasty! Earthy and all that niceness with a side of spice! I got noodles on the side ( mini bowl). Totally getting a full order of noodles next time! They are just so good. XL bowl of BBH will run you about $11 and it is just so big! I ate till I'm full up to my brain and seriously: didn't make a dent. Ended up taking 90% of the bowl to go!! Hello, leftovers!! The combo pho: this one is surprisingly amazing. I love how chewy and al dente the noodles are. Stole this dish and almost didn't give back :D Sharing is caring you know!! :P Those noodles though!!! Menu is short and sweet. They got the usual: Sammy, vermicelli, pho, specialty soups and drinks. It is rare to find such a pretty spot in Chinatown but this one is pretty! And clean!! They do them well too! Hmmm, fresh noodles!!!

Great restaurant run by wonderful people!

By Nicole L |

The noodles are the best I've ever tasted and the pho is out of this world. The people running the restaurant are so friendly and very generous. We will always stop in when we travel to Seattle or on our way through to other destinations.Thank you for the great noodles from your Canadian friends!

"Pho-ralized" 😋🙃

By Anna F |

Two Thumbs Up👍🏼👍🏼 You will surely be "Pho-ralized" after finishing a super bowl of Pho🍜 Highly recommended!

Best Pho Noodles!

By Poker_Ninja_206 |

Love the noodles they use for the Pho! Broth is really good too. I had fresh spring rolls and the large sz steak and meatballs, big portions! I could've gotten a medium and would've been satisfied. Restaurant is small, luckily only had to wait for 10 min to seat 6 of us. Will definitely eat here again.

Had TO GET HERE

By Laura M |

Being form the Bay area, My kids grew up eating Pho' we probably eat as much Vietnamese food as we do Mexican. This Place Met our expectations, The Bowl was HUGE and we had plenty to help with the nasal allergies going on that day as well!! A Big Thumbs up To Dong Thap!! Thank for making our meal so memorable!!

Should check it out but dont go out of your way

By Cherlene M |

I heard about this place on some TV show and wanted to check it out for the experience of eating pho from a massive bowl. We stopped by at this place for an early lunch. 2 adults and 2 kids. Service was ok but we were the only table for a little bit. they had just opened. Cant speak to service if its a busy day. I would recommend trying out this place for the experience of superbowl phos and their house made noodles but I dont see the value in going out of your way to do it. If you are thebarea, then yes go for it but otherwise, just wait till when its convenient for you. VENUE: You can easily drive past it so keep an eye out for the store front. There were about 4 parking stalls on the side of the building but otherwise its pretty limited parking. In terms of accessibility, its pretty open but I cant recall if the washrooms are accessible. Best to call ahead if someone in your group uses a wheelchair or a walker. We liked thebfact that the tables werent super close together. It has a reasonable spacious feeling. PRICE/VALUE: The super bowl phos dont need to be pre ordered unless you are doing the challenge. We got the superbowl for 2 people and we couldnt finish it. There was a reasonable amount of meat and noodles. The noodles are very interesting. They are not the typical thin cut flat rice noodles but rather its more hearty. If you know what chinese "yee mein" is...think of their noodle texture as similar to yee mein. It fills you up! The broth was tasty but we found that it was just slightly over salty. They were ok with us ordering only a 2 portion superbowl because we ordered dishes. I think if we didnt have other dishes? we would have had to order a 3-4 portion bowl of pho. We also ordered a grilled chicken/spring roll and vermicelli dish. It was VERY yummy! very well done and the portion size was bang on! This dish was good. alue for money - more so than the pho in our opinion.

Oh My Pho!!!

By cynch72 |

Yup! Say that again! Well, I saw their BuzzFeed video and my hubby who is such an avid Pho lover, I thought we definitely need to try out this place. What would be more satisfying than watching them eat a huge ginormous bowl of their favorite soup. But finally, on the day that I was actually available to go, my hubby was out of town. Go figure. Lol. So the first time we visited this place, I took my son and my daughter with me. We arrived an hour prior to closing. But they still warmly welcomed us. It is located in the heart of what they call Little Saigon in Seattle. You have to order in advance if you want the Big Bowl Pho challenge.. but that's ok, we can't afford to finish that anyway. So, we ordered 2 large phos @$10 only each which is actually pretty affordable..and they put it all in one big bowl. So there, you get your ginormous bowl. We also got their Vietnamese Fried Spring Rolls and their grilled shrimp and pork chops. They were really good. I've tasted several Vietnamese spring rolls and grilled dishes, but this place makes it better somehow. My kids loved the pho as well! So, when my hubby returned from his business trip with my other daughter, We went back there again with the entire family. Totally had a blast! Price is affordable and food is awesome! Location is not that great! That's the only negative. We even parked right across the street and my hubby was so distracted most of the time because there was a guy who constantly was looking around at our vehicle. It's not the safest area in Seattle I must say. But try it.. you won't regret!

Nice lunch spot!

By Erin P |

Came in on a Saturday at lunch time. They were jammed. We all had Pho, including the SUPERBOWL, which was fun to eat together. The veggies were fresh and high quality. The Pho was good. Also had spring rolls which look great and are very fresh, but were missing excitement...just not a lot of flavor. The very low price of the meal and the visual appeal of the freshness and super big bowl made up for the food which was good but a little bland.

Best known for Super Bowl photo-op

By Roary |

Took the family here for lunch because of their famous "Super Bowl" Pho. The actual challenge is by appointment only. But they are more than happy to take your individual orders and put it all in one bowl so you can take your picture with it. I thought the pho was OK. Their noodles are quite good - a little thicker and fluffier than most. Meatballs were good too. But I thought their broth was on the bland side. Their lemonade is good. Their Vietnamese coffee is served straight in a glass instead of being dripped at your table. The location is quite busy and often a lineup. There is very limited parking available. It was worth taking a picture of the big bowl of pho but not certain the food was good enough for us to want to return.

BIG Bowls of PHO

By Jul R |

Great hole in the wall Pho restaurant. The are touted as having the world's largest bowl of pho. We ordered a smaller portion that feeds 4 but could have feed at least 5. The noodles were the bomb. They are made in house and excellent. I usually don't order the pho when I go to Vietnamese restaurants, but was pleasantly surprise by the taste of the broth and yummy noodles. I would definitely go back again for the PHO.

Fresh noodles!

By PatriciaYWC |

Mmmmm.... their fresh noodle is fab. We ordered 3 large so we could have it in the "Super Bowl" but found that the soup gets cold really fast probably because of the size.

Super Pho!

By jtlg |

House made noodles, Super Tanker Bowl. When the Vietnamese approve you know its good. My Vietnamese girlfriend thought it was better than Pho Hoa Pasteur in Saigon. 5 star soup, do come and order the Super Pho bowl.

Pho

By Berries1 |

Wow this was some good Pho, the soup stock was outstanding and their noodles were great. I had a large and have no idea how someone could get thru their challenge of 4 liters of soup stock, 4 lbs of noodles and 4lbs of meat in 90 minutes.

Great New Restaurant

By Howard D |

What a great find this place is very clean. the PHO soup we had was excellent. I recommend the steak&meatball. I didn't believe how good the noodles are. The owner say's all the noodles are made from scratch in house they even grind there own rice to make them. We will be returning many times to try everything on the menu.

Incredible noodles!

By AKAJamie |

We were staying in downtown Seattle and our hotel had a magazine that had a focus on Asian food. Dong Thap Noodles was listed. We were drawn to it because of the rice noodles that they make themselves. I needed a gluten-free option and so we tried out Dong Thap Noodles. In a word: FANTASTIC! It's not great on ambience but has great service and fantastic food. I ordered the house special - Shrimp, Chicken and Fishball rice noodles soup. My husband ordered the Seafood, shrip, squid and Fishball rice noodles soup. They were both awesome. We ordered the medium size which was plenty. We also ordered the egg rolls which were not gluten-free. Highly recommend this place. Parking is difficult - just to warn you in advance.

Great place if all you care about is homemade noodles

By T L |

We were a party of 4 each ordered Pho. They supplied a plate of bean sprouts and basil with limes but not enough. To be nice we waited for eye contact from the servers to ask for more bean sprouts but after a while when eye contact was never going to happen we walked to the counter and asked for some more bean sprouts, we were acknowledged with a yes. But of course, the sprouts never came. We have never been here and only heard of the place since it’s famous for their handmade noodles and their bowl challenge. We ordered and were surprised that there was very little noodles in our order then we realized that that’s why the menu had $1.00 next to noodles, I guess that meant if you wanted more noodles then we had to pay for extra. This would have been nice if our server told us. What noodles we had were tasty. The soup broth was tasty and different then what we were used to back in San Francisco Bay area so that was nice. But other than that, this place is not special at all. Personally I think their hype about the bowl challenge and homemade noodles are probably getting to their heads that they don’t care about customer service. Half an hour later our mouth was so dry from all the MSG that they used.  Would I recommend or try this place again, “No thanks”.

I don’t know why people making big deal about this place!!

By Shari F |

I watched YouTube over and over! Finally I went to try it. Service was great, food? Not good at all :( very disappointed of the “home made noodles” and I’ve had way way better pho. I really want to give them lower rating but the service was great so I am sticking with 3, should’ve been 2. Sorry it’s not all that :(

Too much hyoe

By Lory S |

The service was mediocre and the food was below average. Ordered a large bowl of veggie pho with 2 slices of broccoli and two halves of bok choy with maybe 3-4 pcs of tofu. The soup was bland and it just really wasn’t even close to the hype it gets. Maybe it’s just the large bowl that is fun to see.

Good value, ok Vietnamese restaurant

By MistyAsh |

A friend of my son who just started working in Seattle took us here. My pho dac biet was alright - not much assortment as I'd hoped. Perhaps I was expecting more from this restaurant since a local picked it. My millennial son and his friend much enjoyed their (spicy) noodles though.

Fresh Noodles

By YCps |

First heard about this place via Facebook Buzzfeeds Food video so then again I travelled far to come eat here. And was somewhat disappointed due to the video being very misleading regarding the giant bowl of pho noodles. The giant bowl of pho (cost $45USD) is an actually a challenge that needs to be booked 2 days in advance and cannot be shared. The video says “Bring a friend – this is one giant bowl of pho’’which implies you can share. It was a very busy day when I went, waited over 45mins to be seated. Service was slow, I feel they needed to hire more staff at the shop front and kitchen. I think due to their sudden popularity there has been an increase of demand and they had yet to I noted that there was a family seated when I first went and lined up to be seated after 45minutes only then food started to arrive for that table, one of the family members didn’t get his bowl of noodles till after his family had practically completed their meal. I mean that’s a little bit ridiculous. Honestly not sure if it’s worth waiting for. Noodles are good and broth is flavourful but that’s about all. Not sure it’s worth the hype.

Great noodles with great service

By thomas102972 |

Went there with a friend that recommended it for pho. The noodles are made fresh daily. I had the special pho (everything pho). It was delicious. I Would recommend this place to anyone who likes vietnamese food.

My first Pho and I'm hooked!

By Family_Jules1969 |

My daughters love Pho and took me here on Sunday night. It's a very busy restaurant but the service is fast and friendly. I loved the chicken Pho although the broth is beef, it was the best broth I've ever had! I'm seriously craving it as I write this! Here is a picture of my small bowl of chicken Pho- it was definitely enough to fill me up. 🍜

Great place for a taste of Vietnam

By Ori Artman |

Love the food, recommend Pho or Bun Cha.  When I had lunch the place was full to capacity. I approximate that half the dinners were Vietnamese. What a compliment to Dong Thap. Come and try.

fresh noodles, but rest was so so

By vamsally |

The noodles were fresh, but the dish I ordered (bun) was nothing special. I've had other ones as good before. I guess I am giving average since I got a bit of stomach unhappiness after visiting here.

Excellent noodles and Pho

By SaW43 |

We have now returned and eaten here several times. The food is always flavorful both the noodles and rice dishes. They have now been written up favorably by a number of Seattle food critics. The service is warm and caring. The prices are low and the quality outstanding

Last lunch early dinner

By Berries1 |

Last time I went when I ordered a large I had to take some home, this time I finished it all and bought more food. I don't believe my appetite grew it looks like their portions are smaller. The taste was very good but kind of expected to get full on a large.

Delicious Pho

By Kelly B |

We did not do a challenge superbowl but we sure did enjoy our dinner. The cold spring rolls were awesome, so fresh and delicious. We then all chose different versions of Pho. Very friendly waiter. Very casual atmosphere with limited seating.
