American food lunch

By thomasdemaar |

Lunch time has a limited American food menu. No Argentinian lean that I could determine. The "Papas Trio" was an appropriate shared starter for adults and collegiates. The price was high but combining with included valet parking for theater at the Majestic made a reasonable package.

Great breakfast

By Mary F |

Great for breakfast, we didn't try dinner. We were staying at the hotel so this was super convenient. Service was excellent. Food was quite good. Latte decent also.

Typical Hotel Food

The food is pretty good, prices are marginal, service can be spotty. The bar staff is good, with a reasonable wine list

Take The Bull!

By JBHeisman |

Stumbled upon this place looking for empanadas. While they only had one option, it was very tasty. We were unaware that this was a hotel restaurant, felt like we may have been underdressed but the staff were all fantastic. Our server was very attentive and offered insight to various foods on the menu. Definitely did not leave unhappy.

Fine dining without the wait.

By MIbeachgirl |

Staying at The Valencia Hotel. Got tired of long waits for sub-par on the River Walk. This was very good. I am always under-whelmed by hotel restaurants. This was better than expected. Husband had salmon and I had the chicken. Empanadas were our starter. Everything was very good.

Super friendly staff!

By TravelRockies |

We were there late afternoon on a weekday, mostly for a cool spot to relax. We each had a suggested local microbrew and some empanadas. The beer was ice cold and the empenadas were great. Can't say anything about the rest of the menu, except that our server said that the kitchen staff would make any kind of alteration or change from the menu that we wanted. The staff was very friendly, answering questions about the food, the local area and more. Difficult to find from the river walk level, but easy from the street.

Enjoyable Lunch

Had a work meeting here for lunch. Great atmosphere. Christian, our server, gave us a great recommendations, was personable, genuine and funny. Food was delicious and came out quick.

Great Breakfast & Lunch Restaurant on the Riverwalk inside Hotel Valencia

By WifeLovesToTravel |

We dined at Dorrego’s for breakfast & lunch. The service was fantastic, both times we were taken care of by Rene, an awesome server. Breakfast at Dorrego’s was by far, the best breakfast we had in San Antonio. Even if you are not staying at Hotel Valencia, check out Dorrego’s and ask for Rene.

Great atmosphere & service at the bar!

Stop is for a masterfully crafted cocktail & superb service. Ask for Yesenia. She will be the one with the biggest smile & is is the best!

Good Argentinian influenced menu

By ShropshireBlade |

Very nice ambiance with good space between tables. Great menu with lots of variety and the dishes are of good portion size and nicely presented. Recommended.

A Touch of Argentine

By David M |

We dine here fairly often usually in concert with a show at the Majestic Theater. We tried the Churrasco this time and it was good but a little tough. The avocado Crab salad was very good but the outstanding dish we tried was their Shrimp ceviche. That was tremendous

Christmas Morning Disaster

By Jennifer Mallard |

We made a reservation weeks before for Christmas Brunch. We arrived and the hostess said they had no availability without saying "how can I help you?"! I mentioned I had a reservation and she said OK, but we waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. We ordered relatively quickly. My kids all ordered basic pancakes, eggs, and sausage. I ordered breakfast tacos, and my husband did something similar (I've now forgotten). We waited 40 MINUTES before we expressed concern about not being on time to Christmas services and asked when the food will arrive. Then, it seemed the entire staff rushed to get our food prepared. What took so long? My 9-year-old son's food--pancakes--was delivered well before the rest of the family. However, they contained raw batter inside the pancakes and they had blueberries inside them when he ordered plain. I had to walk the plate back to the kitchen; waited awhile for someone to help me. While they were apologetic, these were just simple pancakes and there was no excuse as to why they were not fully cooked. 40 minutes? And they could not serve properly cooked pancakes? While the food was delicious, we were all hungry, frustrated and in a rush to actually enjoy the meal. I will chalk it up to a holiday with an understaffed kitchen, but I won't be going back, and I won't recommend this place when there are so many other places in San Antonio that are wonderful. Despite our ordeal, our server was AMAZING! I felt bad she was overworked on Christmas morning. We didn't take our our frustration on her, tipping her far better than the average. Dorrego's need to ensure proper staffing if they want to serve meals on holidays.

Loved the place

By MKChalli |

The restaurant is inside the Valencia Hotel so I had a little difficulty locating it. Once inside, I was impressed with how quiet it was. I was on a business trip and was catching up with a colleague and this proved to be a good place to do so. Our meals were great. The risotto was cooked to perfection. The service was good. The decor of the hotel and restaurant gives you the feeling of Argentina. After we were done with dinner, we were looking around and the receptionist offered us free margarita. We sat in the sitting area catching up some more. No one minded us. It was lovely.

Great place for your work group

By mjr811 |

Wonderful food, great outside seating. Karin did a great job taking care of our 8 person work group. We left full and happy

Unassuming, laid back, excellent

By janiewoods |

The clam linguine and bread service was wonderful, the look was a modern, but traditional vibe, and there was excellent, unpretentious service. Loved!

Pretty place meh food

By ines |

The place is lovely next to the Riverwalk in a very nice hotel. Two thumbs up on decoration. The food unfortunately is very uneventful.. Staff is very friendly and attentive .

empanadas

By TheTexasFoodie |

Dorrego's rates only 3 stars-we looked at their online menu and saw their lunch menu which they do not do any more, they changed this early this month but haven't updated their website, -1 star, my wife ordered beef empanadas and changed it to chicken before our waitress walked away and got corn empanadas, -1 star. The website lists empies at 3 dollars each and now you get 2 for 7 dollars. The empanadas we got were very good. If you change your menu, change the one online at the same time please.

Good meal; great service

By Steve W |

We ate here on our first night in San Antonio where we met up with dear friends. The food was really good -- a bit better than what you would expect in a hotel. But the service was great. Our waiter was Michael and he was knowledgeable about the food and had a great warm sense of humor (note to manager: Give Michael a raise!).

Stopped by for lunch. They offer a paella station during the week for $10. Great value. Had Eileen as our server and she was awesome!

Wonderful meals both at dinner and breakfast

Couldn't have asked for better service during our meals. The food was beyond expectations. Highly recommended

Argentine Dinner of Apps and Red Wine = Riverwalk Dining Happiness

By mummblingme |

With a larger drink menu than food menu, we wondered about choice, especially since our top entree of menu interest was listed, while no longer being served. So, we opted for 4 apps, shared … house made stew/soup, house salad with chimichurri vinaigrette, baked provolone, grilled sausages, paired with an easy drinking Napa red … their best value at $9/glass. Dessert was the star: chocolate filled crepes served warm, topped with cool banana mousse … a rich and delicious end as the sun set on the patio. Note to call for reservations as Open Table closes reservations early, while tables are still available.

Small but great food

By Jerry S |

Atmosphere is a little contemporary and the restaurant is fairly small. Menu is small but ate here twice and the food was very good. The service was good and the staff friendly.

Great food and service!!

By njb719 |

The service at this restaurant is second to none. The staff was so accommodating and eager to please. Our waiter was AWESOME!! I regret that I can’t remember his name because he certainly deserves a “shout out.” The food was great. My compliments to the chef, for sure. The atmosphere makes it that much more enjoyable. If you’re in the San Antonio area and are stating at the Hotel Valencia, give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Feb 2020 Dinner

By MattSWine |

First off, Breanna out waitress was simply perfect. Suh a sunny personality, very attentive and helpful, and represented the menu (food and wine) extremely well. Best waiter/waitress we've had in years. I hope she gets well recognized by the Dorrego's mngt! This place is amazing. The host John greeted us superbly and set the mood just right. The food was impeccably prepared and wonderfully plated and served. The empanada appetizer dish was a yummy way to get things going. The paella was perfect - PERFECT! Such an expertly balanced combo of spice, savor, and cooking. The tenderloin with potatoes and asparagus was similarly refined, and absolutely perfectly medium rare. Dessert was a sweet empanada dish and was a total mic-drop. Their setting is slightly upscale, but still easily allows a nice pair of jeans and a good dress shirt; great view of the river, too. Such a wonderful experience, and the prices were reasonable to say the least - I've had worse experiences while spending twice or more. Can't enough great stuff about this place. HIGHLY recommend it.

Holly is super friendly!

By Christina M |

We are local to San Antonio and came downtown for a going away for a friend! Ended up at Valencia and was pleasantly surprised by the bar at Dorrego’s. Holly was the most personable and professional bar tender I have ever dealt with. She was approached by a manager in front of customers and handled herself with so much dignity, which was very impressive. I would come back to visit this establishment just to have Holly help us out! Great employee!

Outstanding Service

By Christine S |

We were at the restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The food is very good and Eileen is an exceptional server. Very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant for the food and exceptional service.

Special occasion

By scott y |

Hardly a fair evaluation, because I attended dinner here associated with the San Antonio cocktail conference, a paired dinner with cocktails (go figure), but the experience was so positive, I thought I'd add a review. The chef viewed it as a show his stuff, as did the head bartender, and they put on a magnificent show. Everything in the 5 courses was excellent, including the drinks. Really a remarkable place with perfect customer service and excellent execution all the way 'round. I've had just about every type of food/drink they served, but never as creatively prepared or presented. If I were to go to Dorrego's again, I would simply put myself in the staff's capable hands for recommendations. Truly outstanding.

Thank You Tim and Chef Philip!!

By Karla S |

My daughter and I stopped in really quickly for a bite and the service and food was absolutely exceptional.Tim (bartender) made a wonderful accommodation with the help of Souz Chef, Philip and I could not be happier. Everything from food through service was beyond wonderful. Thank you Tim & Philip!

Poor Service

By Mary Ann M |

We ate at Dorrego's Feb, 2019 during restaurant week. All our party agreed our food was great. We had a reservation at the restaurant at 1130 am it was obvious they were not ready. Even when we returned at 12 noon, they still seem ill-prepared. We had to ask several times for the "restaurant week" menu. While waiting, we heard a glass breaking, but didn't think too much about it. Then when the server put down my food, the appetizer (soup) bowl slipped off the plate and spilled all over my pants. She did apologize, and someone else brought over some club soda and a cloth for me to clean up my pants. My husband noted he had received the appetizer but not the entree. Then we heard something else break and large shards of glass slide across the floor. When presented our bill, we told them we had not received our dessert. Also, after reviewing our bill we noticed we were charged "al a carte" instead of "restaurant week" prices. They had trouble figuring out how to re-run our bill. We barely made it in time to eat and make it to the matinee at The Majestic. I contacted the hotel to get the email address to let the management know what happened at their restaurant. The person that answered the phone remembered hearing about the incident. I sent the email. However I never received a reply from anyone.

Great Argentinian eats!

Dorrego’s is a quant spot inside the Hotel Valencia. There’s a large selection of small plates and all are great! Best salmon I’ve had in a while. Complementary Argentinian wine was a nice touch s d service was awesome!

Part of Culinaria/Restaurant Week

By Mercedes6623 |

This restaurant is on the second floor of the newly-remodeled Hotel Valencia in downtown San Antonio. Free valet parking is available if you are going to the restaurant for meals or their Happy Hour. I was given two different times for their Happy Hour, which offers 20% off of the bar drinks and a bar menu; however, we could not get further details. I am sure they are available online or by calling the restaurant. The lobby is quite lovely, with a large water feature that you walk around to get to elevators at the back. You enter the second level to a lovely brick wall and lots of black and white decor and a rustic elegant ambiance. There are multiple seating areas in the bars (there are two, one larger than the other). The smaller area has limited bar seating as well as a circular bar area with seating that overlooks the streets below. The restaurant is located next to the larger bar and has booth seating as well as tables. As I do not typically like booth seating, I chose a table; however, the chairs are not very comfortable. We had seen this restaurant offering the $15 lunches and we decided to try it out. The menu offered two different salads. My husband and I both chose the one with a lovely lemon rosemary dressing over greens with diced squash. it was very good. My husband selected the salmon that was served on a bed of baby spinach and enjoyed it very much. I selected the Cornish game hen with a putanesca sauce that was served with orzo and sauteed spinach. There was very little sauce and the hen was not cooked enough to make it tender. I felt as if I fought to get the meat off the bones. We both ordered the flan with bourbon sauce. This was deliciously creamy. I am not sure if I would go to dine there as I know the prices are high. The thought of attending a Happy Hour is enticing as parking is free.

Nice but limited menu

By Charles C |

Our breakfast was excellent. Generous portions and nicely done. The waitress couldn't have been nicer. We had the seafood parradilla. Lots of food even for 2. My friend like it more than me. Something about the spices.

Best meal of our San Antonio weekend trip

By John B |

Incredible! Brittany C was our server and she really made us feel welcome. She recommended an espresso chocolate martini for my husband and I had their Argentinian moscat white wine. The restaurant wasn’t crowded on this Monday night for dinner. We began with the provelta. I had their paella and my husband their churrasco steak. Definitely would come back here! Thanks Brittany for a wonderful experience!!

Creative and delicious!

By sun&sea lover |

Argentinian influenced cuisine, but not at all like your typical South American steak house (though you can get that if you want it). We had an assortment of appetizers, all were wonderful. We also got the side of street corn, thinking it would be like Mexican sweet corn. Its somewhat similar but unique and very tasty. Service excellent. Room is beautiful. There is outdoor seating on a terrace but it had just rained so we stayed inside. We hadn't planned to eat there, went at the last minute and were really glad that we did. Highly recommend.

Why bother?

By socaltwo |

Not very Argentian at all. Place is poorly managed and disorganized food was ok but nothing special about this place. Young man an young woman team serves were nice but working under adverse circumstances it seems. Would not return nor recommend till management decides what they want this place to be. Bar area is cold and cheap looking and the highly touted Naranja bar does not exist. What is Vbar I saw advertised in a November magazine?

Massive disaster

By Aja M |

will start by saying this review in no way reflects the servers who were doing their best to keep things going in what seems an impossible situation. The kitchen and management on the other hand have really dropped the ball with what was supposed to be a “stunning” dining experience. What has stunned us tonight is the immense amount of time all patrons have had to wait for their food and the sheer lack of quality in the food that was served. We ordered the provoleta grilled/flaming cheese, which took nearly an hour and arrived simply drenched in the alcohol used to create the flame so that the cheese was soupy and inedible due to the soaked through alcohol taste. My husband and I ordered the NY strip and the ribeye, medium rare and medium temperatures. The steaks came out cooked to leather and our sides were cold and in some cases completely missing from the plates. We sent our steaks back, the servers were simply horrified and embarrassed, but they got us our food back fairly quickly. The steaks were not over done when they came back, but my new steak had no seasoning, one of my sides was undercooked, and my husband’s ribeye was half fat and gristle and once again, inedible. Our servers got the dinner comped, which of course we appreciate and think is fair considering the disastrous kitchen situation. We are so disappointed in this experience, as we were hoping this meal would be a highlight of our visit to San Antonio. All reviews indicated it would be, we’re greatly saddened that was not the case for us and apparently not for any patrons of Dorrego tonight. I hope this review helps to improve things to it’s reputation.

Delightfully Different!

By John W |

Very nice variety to the menu which is based on Argentine influences. The ceviche was some of the best we've ever eaten and far from typical. Good bar menu, as well. Very attentive, knowledgeable waitstaff. Great place for either a date night or a business-centered dinner. Highly recommended!

Great service and food!

By Amy L |

This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. It is located on the second floor of Valencia Hotel, on top of a beautiful staircase. I had salmon, and my dining companions had risotto--fabulous. The drink menu had some great selections! The noise level was quiet enough for us to converse. We had a wonderful experience here.

Nice restaurant in Hotel Valencia Riverwalk

By Mike S |

Good food and good service. We both had the bronzino fish for dinner and ate inside because it was a bit cool. Nice decor too.

Delicious

By VerDwyer |

Great setting, off the beaten track in that it is upstairs in a hotel and entered through the hotel. Delicious: fried cheese, street corn, filet, au gratin potatoes, chicken. Just ok: chicken empanadas. Must try this place. Right across the street from The Majestic...super convenient if you’re attending a show!

Good breakfast. Slow service

By Ed K |

Omelette was good but service was painfully slow. Never did bring my salsa for my omelette. Toast came 5 minutes after I finished my meal.

Wonderful food and experience!

By LoneStarBelle |

We celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday and a milestone birthday for my Father-in-law while staying in the Hotel Valencia. We ended up eating at Dorregos several times during our stay. The entire staff and service of Dorregos was wonderful and Sydney, James and Antonio were outstanding and so very kind to us. The food and ambience were fantastic. We highly recommend Dorregos for a memorable dining experience!

Lovely Quiet Restaurant

By Lainey G |

We enjoyed ourselves at Dorrego’s. There are several areas to sit and enjoy a meal. We especially enjoyed our cups of hot tea served with little bottles of honey. The first server we encountered was a little short with us, which was surprising because they were not terribly busy on a Thursday evening. Luckily, the server that ended up waiting on us was polite and helpful.

Great Bar Service, Terrible Restaurant Service

By Matthew Gibson |

So we visited Dorrego's twice. Once for drinks in the evening and then again for breakfast the following day. The bartender and drinks were very good and the prices were not bad at all. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the entire night. The next day, we had breakfast and it was horrible! The service was bad, the breakfast tacos had NO flavor, even with the salsa. The coffee was cold. It was a really bad experience.

very good argentinian restaurant

By luvmy32000 |

Had dinner here before a show at the majestic. This restaurant caters to customers attending shows at the majestic theater. Valet parking is provided free, and 1/2 price bottle of wine with dinner is also provided. The portions are designed to be served for two. the small portion of Parrillada was enough for two.

Poor service

By Sandra C |

I went here with a girlfriend for restaurant week menu on Wednesday and we were pretty excited since we hardly get together anymore. We had the bartender greet us and sit and gave us menus and waited a bit for our server Diane came to the table with water where she started off by saying that the restaurant would be closing soon and we have to order soon. We ate the food was fantastic but overall we felt rushed and even at one point thought we saw the server take a photo of us while we were dining in tried to order extra drinks later on during dining but was told no due to the restaurant already being closed. Will not be returning to the restaurant due to poor service.

Don’t waste your money

By Kathy |

We decided on this restaurant based on its proximity to the Majestic theatre and the favorable reviews posted here. It was a huge disappointment. The pros: Free valet parking with dinner reservations The location is 1 block from Majestic Theatre so its an convenient choice for a pretheatre meal. The cons: Slow, inexperienced servers who referred to my husband and I as “guys”. We waited 40 minutes from ordering to eating even though the restaurant was practically empty. Mediocre, expensive dinner menu- most entrees were upwards of $30. Side dishes were extra. Wine, beer and cocktails were pricey as well. The food was below average at best. Our Texan platter for 2 was a combination of undercooked steak and overcooked sausage served with a blanket of melted cheese and none of the promised sauce. Our side dish of Mexican street corn was tepid corn kernals mixed with Russian dressing. The free valet parking required a 30 minute wait for our car to be brought to us. There are many, many better places to dine in San Antonio. Do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere.

Excellent service and delicious food!

By Michelle P |

Excellent dining experiences! We were greeted with a complimentary wine tasting and excellent service. The atmosphere is upscale, yet relaxed; and there is an option indoor or outdoor dining. Breakfast is also an option. The menu is limited, but all items are delicious! Recommendations: Breakfast tacos, salmon, and filet Argentinian Malbec

Valentine Dinner

By Thomas P |

Perfection. From the moment we arrived we felt the good energy. Moe, greeted us with a smile and even took our picture on the elegant staircase. Our server was Ester. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. The entire staff was exceptional. The dinner was next level. Every course was beautifully plated, and most of all delicious. We really enjoyed it and look forward to our next dinner.

Three course meal for just $15. Tracy was friendly, informative and provided great service. First time and will definitely come back

Very positive pre theater dinner location

By David M |

Wife & I have dined at Dorrego’s 4 times now and each time was delightful with attentive service and great Argentine style food. The first 3 times we made reservations but did not need them. The 4th time we did not and ended up at the bar as the dining room was very busy. We have enjoyed the Brazino (grilled seabass), smoked quail, Texas Gulf prawns in the dining room. At the bas we enjoyed the mini shrimp tacos, Charc plate, and the ceviche which all together made a full meal for 2. As a location for a diner prior to attending an activity at the Majestic or McCombs Empire theater it is excellent Add the valet parking and you can have a very delightful evening.

Fabulous meal, service and ambiance

By JeniShoub |

I cannot say enough about this restaurant! Wish we had found it earlier in our stay, because we'd have gone more than once. The layout, seating, tile floors, glassware, etc. all reflect a real theme or "feel" - it is a lovely, relaxing place to be. The food was spectacular (I just had a Caesar salad and a side, but my companion had a full meal and raved about it.) Go!

Quiet ambiance and wonderful food

By road_tripping9110 |

This place is great. The food was very well done and the environment is very conducive to an intimate dinner or a large group meal. The menu is small because they have perfected a few things instead of doing a bunch of things kind of well. Even with a short menu - they had something for everyone in our group of 7 (including 2 under-12 kids). This place will be on our list of must eats moving forward.

Cool place to meet your friends for Lunch

By Robert G |

Enter the Valencia hotel and walk up to the second floor. You will find the Dorrego's Restaurant and the Naranja Bar. You can choose inside or outside patio seating overlooking the River. We choose inside on a hot September day and enjoyed drinks and a white pizza for a lunch/snack. Service was great and we enjoyed our time here. We plan to return for a dinner after discussion with staff.

Would’ve been great except for the hostess

By JRC |

We went there at around 1730 hrs and i had to greet the (Filipina) hostess coz she was just staring at us and when we said we were walk-ins she said “well usually we only seat customers with reservations on weekends” like hell would we know that, we’re just visiting and craving for steak only 3 tables were occupied so I don’t see the point in raising that remark even the patio tables were empty. So she took some menus and didnt even make eye contact and said (while walking away) “follow me this way”. Now the food! the bread was good and was told that they were baked fresh right from their kitchen, the beef empanadas were good and filling not too dry, the Caesar salad was good and portion was good to share for 2, and the ribeye steak (medium rare) was tender and well seasoned with a hint of mustard in it accompanied by 4 sauces. What redeemed our overall experience was our server ESTER who was so friendly and always checked up on us (and every other table) making sure we’re enjoying the meal to our liking and was very informative with the dishes that were available and what not (goodbye paella), she did great and I applaud her customer service skills! while on the other hand the hostess was asking everybody else if they needed their water topped off and when it came to us she didn’t ask and just said “let me top off your water”, Go figure.

Best Breakfast

You must have their potatoes!!! One of the most scrumptious breakfasts I have ever had while away from home!

Ate at the bar

By houstontravelingfool |

We were staying in the Valencia Hotel for the riverwalk Christmas parade so had a light dinner in the Dorrego bar just before the parade started. It was packed with other hotel guests doing the same thing. Considering the number of people being served in a short amount of time, I thought the staff did an excellent job. We only had two appetizers - De la Casa (a salad with chicken) and Dorrego’s shrimp cocktail. The salad didn’t have enough dressing so was kind of bland and it was too busy to try to get more. The shrimp cocktail’s salsa/sauce was a little spicy for me so it was just OK. I had originally ordered pizza but was told it wasn’t available that night.

Don’t pass this one by

By Kenny S |

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in San Antonio. The balcony view was amazing, the food was incredible, and the service was even better. Thanks to the waitress Ester and the restaurant manager Antonio for great evening!

Food not great, service incredibly slow

By hcmjkm |

This is a very attractive restaurant; expensive and interesting menu. The service was friendly but incredibly slow on a Wednesday night. Dessert finally came 90 minutes after we sat down. Everything took forever; ordering drinks, receiving drinks, salads, second drinks, and to get our empty plates cleared away. And we thought we’d fall asleep before we got our dessert. And we ordered off a preselected menu, so they knew what we were getting from the moment we arrived. And the restaurant was almost empty so the delays weren’t because they were busy. Food was good but the steak was served with nothing but a big burned green pepper. No starch, nothing to go with it. The sauce was good but it really was a wasted opportunity by the chef. And it was medium well even though I ordered it medium. Thin steak. So no, I wouldn’t come here again.

Wonderful sausage stew at lunch. Very flavorful! I always feel like I am on vacation when we come here. I especially enjoy the live, guitarist playing in the lobby.

Pre theatre dinner

By Heidi M |

From the bartender to the manager they were exceptional. We showed without a reservation but stated we were flexible with our timing! They were able to seat us at 5:00 when the restaurant opened. We opened with the empanadas then for main course split the salmon!! All amazing....and the bread and oil.....don’t read this you keto people.....was also delicious!! We will make this our new go to before theatre!!

Excellent food!

We had breakfast our first morning and it was delicious. The portions were very large and the staff was very friendly.

Delicious breakfast - the eggs beneidict was one of the best I’ve had. Christian provided attentive service. Would recommend.

Do Yourself a Favor and Skip this Restaurant

By texas1946 |

There were four of us for breakfast. One of our guests ordered a breakfast taco which was one flour tortilla folded over with a plain scrambled egg inside..period. Omelets were overcooked and not very good. We substituted fruit for potatoes but delivered our omelet piled with potatoes. We asked for fruit and they brought out a big plate of fruit and then charged us for it! We had to BEG for coffee refills. Perhaps it was one of those "one of the cooks didn't show up" kind of days!

A true delight!

By Odyssey10259271472 |

After having had a somewhat disappointing meal at one of the highest-rated establishments in San Antonio, our meal at Dorrego’s was a real delight. We were presented with an unexpected red wine taster on arrival, which was a very nice touch. We chose the home-made chorizos as an appetizer, followed by the Pan Seared Lemon, Garlic & Thyme Chicken, with roasted potatoes and sautéed summer vegetables. This was delicious, with the chicken being very moist - not dry, as in some establishments. The portions were very generous and we ended-up having our leftovers boxed-up to take back to our hotel. We had these for breakfast the next day! Our server Lauren was a true delight and deserves recognition for her knowledge of the menu and wines and for her lovely personality.

Great experience!

By WestTexan |

We enjoyed the food! Will definitely go there again! We had a reservation and our table was ready. Staff were pleasant and attentive. The food was excellent.

Delicious salmon

By Sarah G |

The salmon entree was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a Cesar salad which was perfectly sufficient. The waitstaff was attentive, but food service was slow. If you’re okay to have a leisurely dinner this is a tasty spot right on the river walk

Great steak!

By David R |

Food and service were excellent! Each of us had the tenderloin. The sauces to accompany the steak added even more flavor. Our server, Lauren, was wonderful. The restaurant has outdoor dining in addition to indoor seating, but since it was raining, we ate inside. There is not a lot of seating, but we had not trouble with a same day reservation on a Tuesday. Valet parking via the hotel was convenient. Easy access to the River Walk.

Kind of hit or miss but excellent service!!

By Stephanie D |

My friend and I had dinner here recently and it was both good and bad. We were met by the staff and had a delightful glass of wine while we waited for a table. The appetizer of empanadas was excellent! Our steaks, however were subpar. I ordered the ribeye and my friend ordered the New York strip. They were both very fatty and had a lot of gristle. We did order dessert and the crepes with dulce la leche were amazing. I was somewhat disappointed with our entrées, but will definitely give them another try.

Great food and aesthetics

By Beach girl |

Had both lunch and dinner here; food was great! Both Holly and Christian were wonderful! I would definitely eat here again.

Poor service, watery drinks

By floridatraveler52 |

Evening started off well enough as server offered us a sample of one of their wines, that was quite good. Turns out said server is either management (shirt and tie, not server uniform) or poorly trained as he seemed to have no clue what to do next. We ordered cocktails. My wife's espresso cocktail was quite tasty, mine to sweet and no taste of bourbon. Never felt it either. Empanadas were tasty and apparently came straight from microwave as inside was still chilly from refrigeration. Wife's salad was good

Limited menu

By Etratat |

The menu was limited for lunch and had an Argentinean flair. We opted for burgers which were good but pricey at $15 a plate. With so many options in San Antonio, we went somewhere else for supper.

A place to remember

Delicious food, with the flavors of Argentina. The meat was superb, the ChImichurry, so delicious. Great waiter, polite and efficient.

Delicious and So Affordable

By Stephanie A |

We couldn't stop ordering food at this delicious restaurant with Argentinian flare. The wine list is extensive and the menu is well rounded. Try the risotto, the empanadas, the salads -- everything we tasted was outstanding! And while the food was delicious -- the service was outstanding and attentive. There is a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking a Mexican restaurant downstairs along the riverwalk. Doreen's is found inside the Hotel Valencia on the second floor opposite the registration desk.

Valentine Dinner

By danidb518 |

Since we would be staying at the hotel Valencia where this restaurant is located we made reservations to eat here as we were going to the rodeo that evening and pressed for time. We were only the second couple waiting to be seated at 5:00 pm, staff wasn’t ready, so we waited in lobby, really nice atmosphere. Love the bull picture over the fireplace. Slow pace. Nice young man for a waiter. I had a lemon drink, can’t remember what it was called but it’s on their drink list. It was like 7up on steroids, nice! I let my husband drink my peach Bellini that came with the dinner. The empanada was good. My favorite thing the whole meal was the olive oil and seasoning mixture that came with the empanada. It had a hint of pineapple in it. It was so so good as a bread dipper and salad dressing!! The salad had two tiny pieces of lobster on it. The soup was ok. I asked the manager? What the reddish things were and he said chicken. Ah I don’t think so. My husband liked the soup. I didn’t care for the entree, shrimp and fettuccine. They actually took small shrimp, cut length wise. That’s sad and wrong! Made to look like more shrimp on the plate. Can’t fool a south Texan! And way, way too much red pepper (pimento). I did tell the waiter about the red pepper and he said: those Argentinians like their red pepper! Well burp burp, no thanks! My husband liked his steak. The couple that came in same time as us, unfortunately didn’t have a good waiter as we did, they sat for a long time before getting to order! They had to stop the waiter and actually say we’ve been ready to order! They were from the city, and weren’t that upset, and the four of us tried to laugh it off as they said: hey you two are way ahead of us! I said, well I did mention more than once that we have to get to the rodeo before seven! The manager? Came by a couple times to see if we were ok. And I didn’t see him talk to the other table. Hmmm. I didn’t complain about my dish, but left most of it on my plate (minus the small shrimp!) dessert looked better than it tasted. It was dry. Our waiter boxed up some of the good rolls and that dipping sauce and gave it to me! I still say: put that sauce in a jar and sell it, unless it’s store bought and no one was talking! Pleasant meal and place but on the High side price wise. And we ate there for breakfast. More red pepper in my eggs Benedict!!! Goodness gracious. I picked it all off. They used a very very thin piece of their ham for this dish and very salty cubed potatoes. I like salty things, but, a bit much. Husband’s breakfast selection was ok, the sausage was different! Most breakfast items were in the 16.00 range. Ouch! Slow service and not as good. We watched this kid walk around, then he put napkins on a table and finally walked over to us. Maybe he was new. Good coffee though. And yes, I like red peppers, being half Italian, I get my fair share, but this was overload. And I loved the lil bull on the table, as I’m Taurus the bull! And a milk cow on the table at breakfast- ha!

Lovely

In town for a conference and ate out alone. This was lovely. Attentive staff. Good recommendations for me, as I have many food allergies. Empanadas were light. Grouper was moist. Arrow con leche was not too sweet. Wine and scotch options were good.

Lovely food and atmosphere, brilliant service

By Cazazeeba |

My boyfriend and I came to Dorrego's for a dinner before going to the theatre. The food was excellent, steak cooked beautifully and an enjoyable occasion. What really set this meal apart was the service, our waitress Brianna was attentive but not intrusive with a smile on her face. All the other service staff were really good also. It made our evening all the more enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you to Brianna.

Wonderful breakfast!

By Marylee K |

We had the breakfast deal at the Valencia so went with mom, grandma, a seven year old and four yr old twins. Rene gave us the perfect table and then was so solicitous making sure everyone had exactly what he/she needed and he took care of any tiny overages. The breakfast special Huevos Diablos had just the right amount of spiciness. The kids loved the pancakes with lots of powdered sugar. The yogurt parfait was delicious with a good combination of yogurt, granola and fruit. We will definitely get the breakfast deal the next visit and hope Rene will be there again.

Fresh, Flavorful and Innovative!

By frequenttraveler073 |

Went here for date night prior to the ballet at the Tobin Center. Sat on the balcony with nice view and riverwalk atmosphere. Decided to have a variety of small plates and share one entree. Initial bread service brought 4 warmed rolls with whipped butter and dipping oil. The bread had a nice chew on the outside and a warm, soft inner. Then had the crab salad, flameado, chicken empanadas and gnocchi entree. All were excellent. The crab, avocados, and greens were fresh and full of flavor. The flameado (melted cheese warmed with flaming rum and spiced with chorizo sausage bits) had the ooey gooey perfection of table-side flamed dishes. The empanadas were flakey on the outside with tasty chicken filling. The gnocchi had a lovely creme sauce that covered the gnocchi (made of root vegetables) and the grilled vegetables. Finished dinner off with dulce de leche cheesecake and cappuccino. Service was excellent and attentive. Prices were appropriate for the place and quality of food. (The cheesecake was not the massive chain restaurant slice but a smaller round but on the whole it just felt like a nice finish to a great meal.) We are looking forward to going back and trying the meat entrees with perhaps another smaller selection of appetizers (or perhaps bringing more friends to share!). The hotel itself has a beautiful, peaceful interior. Great location near the Majestic, Tobin, and Riverwalk. Looking for an excuse to come here again. Truly a home run meal.

Exploring Restaurants in San Antonio

By Brian B |

Dorrego’s located in Hotel Valencia Riverwalk was a stop for dinner while in San Antonio. Features Argentinian plates paired with wines. Variety of appetizer, salads, fish and meat plates. Not a large restaurant we did have a reservation. Most enjoyed there meal, however one found it to spicey. There are many reastaurant’s in San Antonio, Dorrego’s was a one time stop’s.

Outstanding! Food and Service off the charts!!!!!

By SDTEXANS |

We were staying at the Hotel Valencia and spoiled ourselves to having dinner there. We ordered the meal to share what a wonderful "meat" treat, we tried to make it back to do the same for the "seafood" but didn't get too! We had breakfast there everyday and Aaliyah was our server extraordinaire!!!! She remembered each day and greeted us like an old friend! She was wonderful! So accommodating and just always had a smile and great suggestions on the stay while we were there!

Wonderful!

Excellent dinner. Our server, Michael, was awesome. You could tell that he really loved his job and wanted to be there. The food had a unique Argentinian flair. Everything we tried was so delicious. We had the polenta cake appetizer, stuffed quail, whole grilled branzino, and a brie cheese dessert with sweet potato Melba. Incredible and innovative.

Beautiful ambiance and wonderful food!

By Frances W |

We went for dinner prior to an event at the Majestic. The first thing that impressed me was they asked what time our show began to ensure that we were not late to the show. The service was good and the setting quiet and relaxing. We tried the chicken empanadas which was not my favorite food of the evening. But I highly recommend the proveleta (flaming provolone). As our entrees, I had an excellent shrimp and asparagus pasta and my companion got a wonderfully seasoned fish dish. Nice selection of wines too. We will be going back!

2020 NEW YEAR SOCIAL CLIMATE IN DORREGO

By SMITHFINAN |

Ny wife and I visited this restaurant on new years eve, December 31, 2019, for dinner and later for dancing the night away. Great food items, lots of foods on the buffet line, drinks priced reasonbly, and great atmosphere. Later, Dorrego became part of the New Year's Party and Celebration. We all had a "BALL AND LOTS OF DANCING." This restaurant has an extensive menu and the service is superior. JES

Excellent overall experience - a must do in San Antonio

By Lisa C |

Dorrego's at the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk is an excellent location that is consistently fantastic. I have hosted several social events during conferences and it is top notch service, food and atmosphere. The staff made sure that my party was a success and that keeps us coming back every year.

Great breakfast

By Ron |

Fantastic breakfast at Dorrego’s in the Hotel Valencia on the Riverwalk. My server, Sydney, kept me entertained with some good jokes and recommended some places to visit while I’m in town. I’ll be back. Great job Sydney!

Convenient to the Majestic Theatre

By jan g |

Dorrego's is located inside the Valentia Hotel, on Houston Street about a half a block from the Majestic Theatre. Valet parking was complimentary with dinner. When we purchased our tickets at the Majestic, they gave us complementary appetizers. The cuisine is Argentinian and dining inside and out, with a view of the Riverwalk.

Outstanding breakfast meeting!

Great restaurant, great location for business and fun in San Antonio! Incredible attention to detail and service in a modern environment with timeless charm. Breakfast was wonderful in an elegant private room, served right on time without disrupting our meeting. Special thanks to Ms. Cruz, Food and Beverage Assistant Director, for being one step ahead, and for her professional and attentive staff! The 5 stars aren’t enough! It’s a San Antonio jewel.

My wife and I stayed in the

By Yarbz |

My wife and I stayed in the Valencia in San Antonio recently and, while visiting, had the chance to visit Dorrego’s. We both had a cheeseburger and a few drinks. We enjoyed the burgers and drinks so much, we went back again! They even had a small humidor for those cigar aficionados out there. I will definitely return and would recommend them to anyone.

Good food if you have had enough of Tex-Mex

By Souvik Bhattacharjee |

It’s our last night at San Antonio. We have been having Tex-Mex cuisine since the last few days, and hence wanted to have something different. At a walkable distance from out hotel by the riverwalk, found this Argentine restaurant. The door to their entrance, as given in the map, was locked, and we were about to leave when we realised that the entrance is through the sides, from the hotel lobby. The place was peaceful and the ambience really nice, the seats were comfortable. I had a Blackberry Bramble to drink and the Grilled Whole Branzino. Very well cooked fish in the Mediterranean style, with enough green on the sides. It was a relief to have something other than tacos and quesadillas. I would recommend coming here and having a go at the other dishes as well.

Breakfast - good food, convenient.

By AMS-Texas |

We ate breakfast one morning. It was not quick service but it was WONDERFUL customer service. We needed in and out quickly and we should have said that up front. Servings are large. Waitress was fantastic.

Great food but somewhat pricey

By Tom S |

While the food can be somewhat pricey, it's very tasty. I found the bar food menu to be less pricey and more to my liking. I did have the crab cakes for lunch one day and they were excellent. I also had the charcuterie plate as an evening snack and it was also good. I finally had their Margherita pizza for dinner and it too was good.

Breakfast Delicious

Orlando and Krissy shared their experience and knowledge making our breakfast enjoyable and pleasant. Avocado toast and other breakfast were fantastic. Took photos of our dishes and gave ideas on how to showcase the breakfast offerings.

Excellent food in a very well decorated setting. This is a go to business lunch place for me. Christian always provides us excellent service, even remembering the usual orders for each of us.
