Pretty good, but ...

By Bryan H |

We came there at four o'clock on a Friday afternoon on a dreary downtown day. They weren't quite busy yet, and so we chose an out of the way table in the back. The room smelled of a recent paint job, but we stayed for the quiet and separation. We ordered two different drinks each, some food. The Hawaii 5-0 wasn't that good. The bartender had filled it with too much slushy ice, and I sucked out the booze with about three good slurps, so I then changed to an "And How!" which was much tastier and worth the money I paid. The food my friend ordered was satisfying save the side of collards, which just didn't work. The service was efficient and fairly friendly. The ambiance wasn't quite as nice as it appeared in the online photographs. I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Great service..food pretty good.

I had chicken there and it was pretty dry. I also got a hamburger and it was wonderful. I'd go back and I do recommend this restaurant.

So glad to be back

By jackwidely |

Returned after a year or so away like everyone else... Great big outdoor covered space! Good protocols for ordering, delivery, etc. Still making good drinks and serving from a small menu-- between us had fries, burger and rice bowl (with pork). All were good. service was fast. so nice to visit them again. No indoor dining/drink yet, but it is summer so enjoy!

Tasty Twist on Vietnamese Classic.

By Justin L |

If you enjoy BBQ and Vietnamese, then you'll love this clever fusion. The menu is simple and prices very reasonable. But don't be fooled, the flavors are rich and satisfying. It's open for lunch each day and for dinner only Friday and Saturday. Definitely worth a try.

Disappointing

By Marj042 |

My husband & I went for happy hour last night looking for a new experience. Unfortunately it is not the place for us; too funky, music too loud & unpleasant. I had the house ramen which I found to only be average. The slice of pork belly was tasty, but the noodles were under-cooked & the bowl had sriracha sauce sprinkled around on top even though there's a bottle of the sauce on each table. I would've preferred to add my own. We won't be back.

Disappointed in Ramen noodle texture

By Dayna |

I was super excited to try this place and wish I could give a better review, but: I ordered the Ramen soup and had high (or at least regular) expectations. $11 is standard price in my opinion. I will say coconut milk added to the broth made a very distinctive difference in taste compared to traditional Ramen broth and not in a bad way, just in a very different way. I kept saying out loud "wow, this is different..." BUT, the noodles were so soft and completely mushy which totally ruined the experience for me. Personally, I like noodles al dente but I would have been happy if they were just regular. I don't know if they were intentionally served this way or by accident. Each bite I took I was distracted by the unexpectedly soft, mushy, doughy texture. Major sad face here. I wish I would have ordered the Banh Mi! FYI you order at the bar and seat yourself. There was outdoor seating and indoor tables with an old school Double Dragon video game which was a cool novelty. However, the first table we sat down at, I looked down right next to me and saw a web with a huge spider in the middle. Needless to say, we moved. I told the bartender and he said he would check it out, but overall seemed laid back. (I am from the East Coast so is this a laid back West Coast cultural difference? Maybe?) I don't mind bugs and love camping, but seeing this right next to me as I dine was just unexpected and off putting.

Chickpea Fritters & Dark & Stormys!

By LottieJean57 |

My daughter & I ate here yesterday. The bartender Ryan was very nice, attentive, made good drinks. The food was really good! Bahn Mi sandwiches (chicken & Painted Hills beef) were exquisite! The bun was fresh, melt in your mouth, the pickled vegs & aioli great! The brussel sprout appetizer was just delicious, and the romesco served with the chickpea fritters (a meal in themselves!) was the capping point of a delicious late lunch. I woudl have given a higher rating if this gets addressed: It would be nice if they would repair the upholstery in the back booths, tho. No one likes to sit in a hole (literally) & its unsanitary as well. Conversely, the bathroom was spotless!

Go for cocktails

By vyakal |

This is a great spot for cocktails. The food was alright. The Bahn mi burger works but the Bahn mi sandwiches could be better. Also portions are fairly small. All of that being said, their cocktails were spectacular. I will have to go again to make sure all bar tenders are executing the drinks as well as the one that was there the other night. The drinks were balanced and all the flavors in the description came through. 5 stars on cocktails.

Lunch stop.

By artsysstr |

We stopped in for lunch. I was hungry for soup. This delicious ramen soup with poached egg, pork and fresh cilantro did the trick. We placed our order up at the counter. One employee ran the front counter taking orders and bringing out food. He was pleasant and food came out quickly. Looks popular with the locals! We'll definitely go back!

First time

We stopped in on a whim. Ordered the house Ramen. It was a bit spicy but so delicious! We will return.

Tasty Vietnamese Sammies!

By ndenisi11 |

It had been awhile since I was here last but the delicious sandwiches have not changed! probably only gotten better haha. I got the tofu Vietnamese sandwiche and it was soo good. the spices and different ingredients really burst in my mouth! I loved the atmosphere and the toasted coconut cookies were to die for! they were so good that I went back and bought more the next day!

Tasty vietnamese

By Willis |

Had the pork belly - I remember raving about this - it was very good. Also, had the miso gravy fries that were tasty but not extraordinarily memorable. Fiancee shared her coconut curry ramen with me. I'll be getting it next time. So good. Had a 'Good Morning Vietnam' cocktail, and a 'Dark and Stormy'. They were also tasty.

The best Bahn Mi ... almost all due to the excellent French baguette

By PALTravel |

I've had BANH MI throughout Asia and even in Hoi An, Vietnam, where Anthony Bourdain said it was the best in all the world. So my experience in Oregon for Bahn Mi has been very disappointing until now. The key is a perfectly baked French baguette coupled with enough pickled veggies and herbs to compliment the meat. My Pork Belly Bahn Mi had a great aioli, pickled carrot and daikon, jalapeño and more than one sprig of cilantro. I could taste the fish sauce, but not the palm sugar (this is good). It transported me back to Vietnam. Even though it was excellent, it could have been a smidge bigger to warrant the $10 price for a sandwich.. Other's had the Pulled Pork Bahn Mi that is rubbed and then braised for 12 hours. It looked great and everyone said it was moist and yummy. One person had the Chickpea Fritter Bahn Mi which she said was OK, but coupled with the baguette, it was a carb overload. You order at the bar and they bring your selection to your table ... we were outside as it was a beautiful Friday evening in Portland.

Fantastic Fusion Banh Mi

By Lookingforlunch |

They have taken the banh mi concept and gone exploring. Wonderful, flavorful sandwiches with fresh ingredients. Pork belly! Wow. The sandwiches are huge and so delicious. Their fusion approach to this simple sandwich is fantastic. And what a great way to sop up all those beers from Apex bar, right across the street. (They will ask you at the counter if you want it wrapped to take across the street).

Good food, funky vibe

By CANJGirl |

We stopped in for take-out and had a beer while we waited. We were trying to figure out how to describe the place - a bar with food? A restaurant? I think a bar with tasty food. We had the brisket bahn mi and the vietnamese burger. They were delicious.

Fine fusion banh mi, legit kimchi side

By Paul G |

My pork belly banh mi rocked; great crusty bread hosted fresh veggies, cilantro, aioli, and sauce complementing smoky, rightly salty pork belly. Son's pulled pork rice bowl also satisfied. Pleasant outdoor seating and decent pricing to boot. Would eat here too often if I lived in Portland.

Good place to stop by

By jackwidely |

Meet friends for quick dinner and drinks. Perfect place with easy parking or walking from SE Portland. Drinks were reasonable with wine pours more that adequate! Mixed drinks quick & reasonable too. Good is mostly Asian fusion & burger & simple bar foods. Curry was great as were the burgers. Pork bbq is also worth your while.

Very good hole in the wall

By AGEinPrague |

Great food, reasonably priced, excellent home brewed thai iced tea. Ambiance is a little lacking but they have a real Double Dragon game whgich makes up for it. Highly recommend.

Great Asian-Portland Fusion

By Timothy C |

Fun place to get a great Bahn Mi, or rice or ramen bowls. Full bar with great cocktails and rotating taps of craft beers. Friendly staff that aims to please. If weather permits, wonderful outdoor seating covered by umbrellas. Portland food scene must.

Fanfriggintastic

By jackolatern |

We finally made it here and it was amazing!!! He had the Pulled Pork Banh Mi and I had the Yellow Curry rice bowl. They were both fantastic. We ended up sharing both meals with each other! Will definitely be back soon!!!

Great lunch stop

By Chris S |

KImchi hot dog with fries was very good, pork belly rice bowl also good, washed down with good beer.

I love this place

By Daniel M |

Yes, they are a different spin on the traditional Vietnamese sandwich and cost a bit more, but they are delicious and generously portioned. I've tried just about everything on the menu and have been pleased by all. Splitting a sandwich and salad is the perfect way to go if you're not famished.

Delicious Pork Belly Rice Bowl!!!

By Honeybee1981 |

My fiancé and I stopped by for a quick late lunch, we happened upon this place due to a near by restaurant had a line out the door. I am so glad that we decided to not wait in line at the other place because we were both very satisfied with our Pork Belly Rice Bowls! Each component was delicious on its own and together was amazing! We will definitely be back!

could not eat this

By someone_from_redmond |

we love pho but nobody could not finish her bowl. sorry for visiting this. pho should be different and should be tasty not like that. sorry again.

Great Late Night Stop

By Bryan K |

Double Dragon is a pleasant no frills eatery. Walk up ordering with table service. There is in and out doors seating. Fairly eclectic appeal. The food is a typical Portland Asian fusion menu and they pull it off well in a casual setting. Great place to grab a beer and visit over food from a casual menu. The staff is very accomodating.

Amazing Bahn Mi

By JackinVermont |

Went for lunch and sat outside-the server was very friendly but not overly so. We ordered three things. 2 out of the 3 were delicious and the other was quite good but suffered in comparison. I recommend the pork belly bahn mi and the kimchi collard/pulled pork rice bowl. I don't give out 5 reviews often. Don't know what the vibe is like at night but it was the best quick lunch we could have had.

Over priced Vietnamese sandwiches!

By Mraschio |

I read on Yelp that this joint had 4.5 stars for food. Not on my lunch. Paying almost 10 bucks for a sandwich is a bit much. The papaya salad was the highlight. It was just to spicy, nothing to easy the pain. Do some veggies or fries for a side. Spicy cheap BBQ chips on the side distracted from the flavor of the sandwich. Decent service defined yuppie vibe. Good luck.

Chickpea Banh mi and cocktails!

By marty185 |

Banh mi sandwiches were good, both pork belly and chickpea. Interesting cocktail list, some good beers on tap also. Always friendly service, nice outdoor seating. Good option for sandwich or rice bowl and a beverage.

OK

By Phil |

I liked my Banh mi, though not as much as some others I've had. My wife's ramen was gummy. The nachos didn't suit my taste at all -- if you like Velveeta, maybe you'll like it more than me. My wife and I left much of the food uneaten, and went to another restaurant afterwards. The service was a little rude.

Welcoming and Delicious

By Lisa K |

We stumbled here accidently but will be back. Very good Bahn Mi. The bread is outstanding. Interesting and creative drinks. Casual place with outdoor eating.

Asian fusion without attitude

By susurradeluz |

Exactly what you want. A warm welcome from the two gentlemen running the bar. Creative drink menu and a bartender willing (not just willing, actually happy) to pull one out of a hat for you and creates a killer drink to order. Order at the bar from a food menu with about 15 items that cover the bases of rice bowl, ramen soup, banh mi, sides. Sit at a table or the bar and your food arrives quickly. Fresh and tasty, excellent quality ingredients. Those nice guys at the bar check several times to be sure you have what you need and are happy with the results. A cool hipster joint with no attitude at all. Highly recommend.

Posting my husbands review...

By Aurora M |

He swears the Bahn Mi is 5 stars and from the small but I had, I would agree! It's a little less than super clean on the inside but the friendly staff make up for that and it has the SE vibe...q

Double Dragon, Double Yum!

By RunningJoePDX |

I stumbled upon Double Dragon after a conversation with one my cooking school instructors. She said that if I really liked Bahn Mi then I really need to head to Double Dragon on 12th and Division in South East. I hopped right over there and was not disappointed. In fact, I texted a chef friend and asked if he'd been there and his response was simply, "OMG, so good!" The food here is flavorful to the edge of hot and spicy. I left with my mouth feeling it, but in a really good way. I had the vegetable banh mi -- I typically don't really like veggie sandwiches because they are often so boring -- but the flavors were just bursting out of this one. The sandwich had a babagonoush hummus on it and pickled red onions. It was fantastic. Don't go here looking for tradition, but go for the fantastic. The environment here is very casual. Outdoor seating is on pick-nick tables and the bathrooms, well, they were porta-potties. But look past that, because they food is totally awesome.

Portland Asian fusion- Excellent Pulled Pork

By Paisan P |

This place was very clean with a friendly staff. You place your order and when you finish you clean up after yourself. Surprisingly everyone did a great job of cleanup this place was very clean. Two of us had the pulled pork sandwich which were outstanding. The portions were large and the flavors were even larger, One of us had the tofu peanut sauce bowel. She said everything was cooked perfectly and aging it was loaded with flavors. They have a nice selection of Portland Asian fusion on their menu. Also some interesting cocktails and great beer.
