We came here for drinks and dessert while staying at the Jupiter Hotel. What a fun atmosphere! The drinks and the dessert were both amazing! I'll be back!

Visited on Saturday night with family and friends. Great atmosphere, good service, and good food. The Candied Bacon Burger was amazing, I highly recommend it. My wife and I will be returning the next time we're in Portland. Also, looking out the window and seeing the Naked Bike Ride pass by was an added bonus experience here, lol.

I recommend the Crab Cake Burger. It was very good. The clam chowder was good but it had some kind of a weird seasoning in it. Excellent restaurant with very nice servers.

At the corner of a former Travel Lodge motel block, the Doug Fir offers phenomenal food and a highly unusual menu, with full bar service. If you're going to a show at the Doug Fir Lounge (popular music venue is downstairs), come early and enjoy a great dinner, a log cabin atmosphere (hint: Doug Fir is a tree) and some professionally made cocktails!

We came to see Run River North and loved this venue. The decor is great and all the staff were friendly. The acoustics downstairs were great and the band sounded fantastic. Great general vibe and a good crowd. We are glad we came.

Let's talk atmosphere first. It's like a diner in a log cabin on the moon. It's woodsy yet spacey with a friendly staff and great menu. For dinner we had hush puppies then Tri Tip Steak and my friend had pork chop. Big portions with great sides and great cocktails. We came back the next morning for a classic breakfast, ricotta pancakes and mimosas. Lattes would have been perfect but the coffee was great. My travel companion even order lunch to go. I would definitely go back and book it with a show.

We ate here several times while staying at the Jupiter Hotel. Decor was very cool and service was great, but the food left a lot to be desired. Presentation was great, but the food had no flavor. We tried several dishes at several different meals and it was always the same: it's as if the kitchen doesn't believe in seasoning. This was consistent across breakfast and lunch on two days, so it wasn't just an off day or one bad recipe. I never tasted flavorless Eggs Benedict until I ate here. Ditto on the French toast, the country fried steak (which tasted like breaded, unseasoned ground beef), the biscuits ... even their candied bacon ice cream dessert somehow managed to be neither sweet nor salty. The only reason I'm giving the Doug Fir two points instead of one is because the service was great and the decor is fantastic. If they'd learn to season their dishes correctly (or at all), this place would be unstoppable.

The food here was great and so was the decor. The service was good on a busy night. I'd definitely eat here again.

This is what you'd expect from a hip happening bar in PDX. A very cool design and some great speakeasy-type seating. The breakfast was excellent. If you are staying at the Jupiter Hotel, you'll get a discount voucher too. Lots of live bands virtually every night here in the lower East Burnside. Indie bands perform amid the quirky log-cabin décor. By all accounts, this venue offers excellent acoustics. You don't need to be inked up, to sport a big shaggy beard or to ride a single gear bike here..... NOT being a hipster is actually the New Cool! ;-)

This place is an experience in itself. The décor is amazing, the prices aren't cheap but they aren't expensive either. I love the furniture they use and the wood cabin theme. We went here for a concert and it was the best concert I have been to in a while. The staff was very helpful and very nice. If I lived in Portland I would take my partner on a date here often. They have great music selections for bands that come in. I hope you give this place a try. Keep in mind they do not have their own parking.

Was going to go with 'The Portland Hangover Cure', but went with biscuits and gravy instead. My wife's eggs on toast with hot sauce just as good.

Great food, cute retro atmosphere, slow but friendly service. It took a while for the waitress to take our order and I was hangry, but the waitress was apologetic. The coffee and food were great.

I thought this place was great. It scored very high on the cool factor for me. They have a great outdoor patio. The inside is way cool and they even have a very slick live music set up. We enjoyed the food and our drinks. I'm s burger guy so I went with the "Fir burger" and it did not disappoint. The prices are average so you won't break the bank and our service was great. If your looking for a cool place to go, give this place a look.

We stayed at the Jupiter Hotel and had friends/ family who live in Portland come and visit, have drinks and food with us and come and go to and from a concert at Revolution Hall. Public transportation is quick and easy. The food and drinks are excellent, happy hour is more than one hour and the music is great with an easy, comfortable atmosphere.

This is the spot for great hangover food, the service is friendly super hipster and the coffee flows (bloody mary's are not too shabby for THOSE mornings). Interesting decor, nice people and quick service

We actually did not eat at Doug Fir, but I heard the food was great. We went there to have a drink before heading off for dinner. I was playing tourist and a friend In Portland was trying to give me a view of a few of the places that makes Portland special. It worked! The fireplace was great, the decor very Douglas Fir, and the atmosphere wonderful.

Sometimes bar food is pretty good, but more often than not it is a disappointment. Thus I was pleasantly surprised by my first visit to the Doug Fir Lounge. I had the St. Louis boar ribs and the mac and cheese; my date had the asparagus. Everything was good -- better than average, and much better than I expected. We ate pretty early for a bar, about 6:30 pm or so, and it was pretty quiet when we arrived, but people started arriving more frequently, so that the place was getting busy as we left. It's not difficult to find parking in the side streets near the place, so that's a plus.

I don't remember much about the food. I just remember this was a quirky fun restaurant. Unique food and drinks...hot spot for hipsters. We really like it. And we later went to a live how in the basement, so it was very convenient. Lots of fun - would definitely return!

Great food here! Pretty good selection of beers. Shows happening quite regularly downstairs, and an awesome patio with fire pit to chill on. The decor inside was very charming, it felt warm and inviting, and the staff were helpful.

Prices were better than reasonable. We drank alot and then stumbled back to our motel room. It was glorious.

I've been to lots of shows here. And, I do like the venue for the most part, as long as I am standing near the stage, though it is a rather small venue. The drinks are okay, nothing special. The decor in the bar is pretty cool, and the food is decent. Parking can be tricky, but they do have a really cool outdoor area, if you smoke. Will I come back? Yea. If there's a band I want to see, then I go see it.

The Doug Fir was very convenient for me as I stayed in the hotel/motel right beside it! Meals were pretty tasty and I even decided to be a little adventurous an try their bacon sprinkled ice cream (not my cup of tea but I tried it)

Witnessed two extremely poor interactions between staff and customers here recently. First, stood next to a guy trying to settle his tab at the upstairs bar. He informed the bartender of his intentions and bartender could not have more disdainful when he replied "Hey man, I can't hear you". Wow. Then when entering the music venue, my wife politely said "Hi, how are you tonight" to the visibly attitude-filled ticket taker and was completely ignored. She was also completely ignored when she said "Thank you" to him. Those were the only two interactions I had with staff as I decided at that point not to spend any more of my money there. Music was great though. Dale Watson and his Lone Stars!

I stopped in at 1 AM after a long day of traveling. I was glad to find a really good Old Fashioned and a bar bites menu still available late. Their Bahn Meatballs are delicious. It's also a really fun spot in terms of its vibe and how it looks, I'll be back.

I've lived in Portland for over 14yrs. I'v never had a chance to eat here, until yesterday and I loved it! The Vegan Burger was AMAZING and our waiter was a delight.

Loved the Maggie Rogers/Overcoats show at Doug Fir while travelling in Portland. Intimate 300 capacity venue. Fun lounge upstairs. Enjoy!

Just look at the menu. Then go there. My experience: Saturday night, free street parking close by, a huge $5 happy hour burger, a $6 fresh side salad, and an ambiance that made me want to stay. Everything that my friends ordered looked good too. My picky friend Stubbs wasn't with us, but I think even Stubbs would give DF five stars. The ambiance is Portland kitsch. A mix of lumber, Sasquatch, and 1970's decor. Check it out.

You much check out happy hour, nice bartender and fantastic drinks. They have a good selection of Happy Hour food as well. The wings are so yummy!

The Doug Fir Lounge is a staple in the Portland Music Scene. Act after act perform weekly at this retro feeling establishment. The venue is in the basement which has it's own bar and restroom facilities. If the lines are too long for either of those items simply walk upstairs to find more. For the smokers in the audience today, there is a fantastic outdoor patio and smoking area. It's complete with comfortable couches and firepit. The food has been good every time I go, but they also sport some amazing desserts if you need something sweet with your tunes. The drink selection is always solid with local brews on tap leading the charge. If you like to imbibe liquor rather than beer the NITRO OLD FASHIONED which is concocted with Early Times Bonded, muscovado sugar, bitters, and BFC. Quite delicious. The staff is helpful and they make a great drink. The lounge is clean and free of trash or garbage. There is a downside to the Doug Fir Lounge. It is a small venue, so tickets for your favorite shows tend to sell out fast.

This is place has it all. EXCELLENT cocktails. Delicious food (get the fried chicken). And, the best music venue in town. Check out a show here. You won't be dissappointed.

My husband and I went for a drink at the Doug Fir Lounge while waiting to check in at the Jupiter Hotel. I ordered a glass of chardonnay and my husband asked for a beer. After taking a sip of my wine I told my husband that I did not like it and would not enjoy it. Wendy our bartender came by and I informed her that I would like to change my glass to either a pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc. Both my husband and I immediately sensed her annoyance with her facial expression. She came back with a small taster then with the other. She then asked which I preferred. I told her the first one I tasted. Very sarcastically she asked "well is it the pinot or sauvignon?" Again I told her the first one I tasted...she leaned over and in a very demeaning manner and tone of voice she retorted "like I said is it the pinot grigio or the sauvignon blanc?" Since I am new to wine drinking and was not able to distinguish which was which my husband took a sip of the first taster served and informed her it was the pinot grigio. Wendy made me feel as if she were speaking to a two year old. I never addressed her offensive ill mannered behavior. A review to reveal her truth is always best. In addition there was only one other customer and she was just chatting with a coworker at that time.

We were staying in the hotel opposite - the Jupiter, so this was handy for breakfast. Usual American fare on offer. This place is also, good for evening drinks/ cocktails etc. has a nice outside seating area too. There seemed to be a mixture of ages here, as I guess like us people from the hotel came here. This place stays open till at least 2am , so if your'e a guest at the Jupiter Hotel , ask for a room furthest away

Will take your money and not give you anything for it. I purchased tickets in early 2020 for a show in October of 2020, the show was unfortunately canceled for obvious reasons and I was given a voucher for my tickets. The show was recently rescheduled and I tried to use my voucher to get tickets however I’ve been ghosted by the venue and now the tickets I wanted are sold out. Be careful purchasing tickets, you might get your moneys worth, you might get scammed.

Came here late night for a drink as it was mentioned as a "must visit". Did not disappoint. Cool vibe - one minute you feel like you are in a lodge - and then next minute you are in a night club. Extensive drink list - good service.

Flew in from St. Louis to catch Pokey La Farge in concert on a Wednesday night. Ate elsewhere, but from a concert perspective, a fabulously funky spot! If you don't mind standing for approximately 150 minutes, you will have a blast. Check out their calendar of events.

Another very cool independently owned restaurant in Portland. It looks like it was once a diner but now has updated décor that gives it the look of a Loungy Lodge. The food was great and although I sat in a booth, the bar area looked good too. I understand they also have a live music area downstairs. Be sure to try the Fir Burger when you're there!

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner. It was a nice atmosphere and we were given two servers due to the amount of people we had. I tried one of their salads, the portion was more than enough to satisfy me. All in all, a great place for dinner with friends or even a date. I would love to come back during a show!

The drinks were okay, the food was good (breakfast). We went there a few times during our visit, the Friday night crew wasn't terribly friendly, but the Saturday DAY crew were great.

Can be crowded on the weekends because it is worth it! Outdoor and indoor fire pits make terrific ambiance. The restaurant is open for lunch but then closes. Opens again at 5pm for dinner. Happy hour is great in the lounge but seating is limited when it rains. You can reserve an indoor room. Beware of the restrooms when you're tipsy, it is dimly lit and very easy to walk into a mirror! Turn right for women's and left for men's just before walking into the mirror! Made me laugh, but I didn't injure myself...

We frequented the Doug Fir often during our trip to Portland, as it was literally across the parking lot from the Jupiter Hotel. Sad to say I didn't have the burger (they looked delicious!) but I did have yummy breakfasts and a nightcap of drinks almost every day. The breakfast was the perfect cure for a hangover. One night, we went downstairs to the live music lounge. It was fun to watch local bands play, and again the drinks were stiff. Lots of choices in beer. Very fun, laid back restaurant bar, classic Portland.

We’ve enjoyed the Doug Fir Christmas dinner in 2016 and made a return visit in 2017. The food was flavorful and very creative but an little unusual for our tastes. We noticed most other patrons were ordering off the menu and perhaps we should have done the same! We love the atmosphere, the staff, and the food. Definitely worth a visit!

With music, it always depends on who you are seeing. I went here once before, wasn't so impressed with the bands and that kind of rubbed off on the whole experience. Next visit was to see the absolute classic cult band The Blasters, and it was a riot. I also realized that the venue is really unique, and now I love the place. Classic Northwest vibe, it feels like you are having a gig in your own little log cabin. It's intimate, with room for just a few hundred people. I saw some comments about limited seating, but hell, this is a music club. You can find a seat or a step to perch on if you really have to, but you're there to see the music, so stand or dance! And while the worst views from the back are just fine, the best views are right up front. The crowds aren't crushing, so you have plenty of chances to move around or move up. I wasn't even trying, and before the concert was over I was already right by the stage. Great experience! Didn't eat any food, so I can't comment on that. Give it a try if you want, but definitely come for the music.

This is a nice building, and the food is good too. I couldn't understand why my hand had to be stamped before they let me in, but there was no cover charge, and I decided it was just because I was special.

Read about Doug Fir in Dwell Magazine a number of years ago. The article made me want to find a dumpy motor lodge and renovate it! Finally, we got to Portland and had a reason to have a drink in the bar. It was fantastic. Atmosphere was perfect. The cocktails were tasty and the hipster vibe was strong. We were there on December 25, so it was relatively calm. This should be at the top of everyone's list when visiting Portland

This restaurant looks like a faux log cabin. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is available here. The food looks innovative on the menu, but is just average in reality. The price point is average for Portland. This restaurant is popular with locals and tourists, especially staying at the motel next door. Service varies here, from friendly to aloof, which is something the place should work on.

If I lived in Portland I'd eat here all the time. One of us had a fine beef stroganoff that was on the specials list. Flavored with well-balanced rough mustard and sage, the sauce was something to remember and try to reproduce at home. The other of us had the Fir Burger with its homemade mayonnaise, arugula, and Gruyere cheese. That sounds simple, but it was likely the best burger I ever ate. At night, due to the bar, everyone (no exceptions) gets carded and stamped on the wrist with a sailor's anchor "tattoo". Breakfast was very good but not quite superb. The bacon comes highly recommended.

Solidly enjoyable food, good selection of brews and a wide range of bar drinks - add to it a dark lit environs with cool buildout and bar area- now you have a classic Portland bar scene great to visit with friends or couples. If one gets the chance, the music venue (downstairs) has some great artists on the venue and is intimate (small crowd size for live band concert) and worth the experience. Mostly, just grabs a friend or two and plan to spend an hour sipping & talking over something enjoyable and watch the rest of the Portlanders doing likewise.

I arrived in to town late ans was looking for a good place to eat. Standing outside a pizza joint a nice young fellow directed me here. What a great spot. Good food and drinks and very friendly and fun. I hear the breakfast is incredible?? Will have to check that out next time.

It was like walking onto the set of the Brady Bunch! If the Brady Bunch had cute tattooed staff, excellent beer, and good food. Seriously, there was not one part of Doug Fir that I did not love: the fire pit, the odd bathroom I had a hard time finding my way out of due to strategically placed mirrors on every wall, the Fir Burger (sounds so off putting, if you think about it to much), the gnocchi, the pork schnitzel, and the fries were ah-ma-zing! But what made my heart flutter was the Nut Crusher Peanut Butter Porter (Wildride Brewing, Redmond). The bartender let me try it and the first words out my mouth wafter the first sip were: Will you marry me? Two of my favorite things: peanut butter and beer!! I proceeded to drink two.

Spent several hours here while staying at the Jupiter Hotel (a rocks throw distance). Great place to people watch, drink and chill. Awesome vibe with the music venue downstairs. Very "northwestern" looking which is a good thing.

I visited The Doug Fir Lounge to see the band Bent Knee. We were there for hours so we experienced each part. There is a sit down dinner section that has delicious but pricey entries. If this review were for this section alone, it wouldn’t have gotten five stars due to price... but the other elements make up for it. After having dinner with friends, we met up with other friends in the bar area. This was much more our speed as the food here was much more affordable. It was super relaxed and the ambiance for every part of this place is KILLER! Like you’re in a trendy log cabin! Then the performance space is also amazing! It’s gorgeous down there! Bent Knee was UNBELIEVABLE!!! But the sound here was superb! Some of the best sound I’ve EVER heard in a venue this size! A great place to meet up with friends!

We went to the bar while waiting for our taxi as we were staying at the Hotel next door. The bartender was very friendly and the service was excellent. We ordered the special locally distiller alcohol and were not disappointed.

We were going to attend a matinee performance at the 3rd Rail Rep and decided to visit Doug Fir again. We shared a sandwich and a bowl of chowder. The food was very good, service was excellent and the restaurant was very comfortable. We will return in the future for lunch or Happy Hour which has been very good in the past. In addition they have a very good breakfast and lunch menu with plenty of variety.

I find myself at the Doug Fir probably like once a month, for either lunch or happy hour, or even to catch a show at the music space downstairs. Food's always good - fresh, hot and flavorful, with better-than-diner quality coffee and friendly, sharp service. Nice room with good lighting for the main dining area; the happy hour space can get a bit crowded at prime time cause it's narrower, but there is a pretty great patio for additional seating when it's warm out.

We went there for dessert and just to check out the place. It is really cozy and has some nice big windows facing the streets. It was very romantic to share a dessert (some type of banana pudding) and look at people passing by. Cool place to hang later in the night.

Had a super fun time hanging out at the Doug Fir while on a trip to Portland 2 springs ago. The service was good; food and drinks were terrific. Had a blast.

I've stayed at Jupiter Hotel twice this month of Feb and have hung our at Doug Fir on each of my trips. This time I got to go check out their downstairs entertainment venue and my friends and I saw an awesome show, the space was awesome and the music totally blew our minds. Our room was right above the outdoor patio at Doug Fir and it was the perfect loud, fun and exciting environment to be a part of. That's exactly what we were looking for. If you're looking for a place to go and place to stay that is quiet and zen- this is not the place for you. This is a place for fun and exciting entertainment that doesn't stop. The host, Marissa at Doug Fir hooked us up with some awesome garb and let us try on different sizes before we made a purchase for our friend who lost his jacket. Jack the bartender took great care of us and made us feel like old pals. He remembered my name and who I was from the last time I traveled to Portland several weeks ago - that was an awesome feeling. Louis and Bret at the front office of The Jupiter gave us some really great tips and pointers for things to do on our trip- we followed their advice and were not disappointed one bit. Fantastic job! Thanks for making an awesome trip even better by providing such outstanding service- will be back soon!

We recently stayed at the jupiter hotel 5 nights which is next to the Doug Fir. We had breakfast at the Fir everyday as well as one dinner and several trips for drinks and apps. Evens though we were a large group who never got to the restaurant to be seated at the same time they were always very accommodating. The menu was good and the food was great, service always top notch throughout restaurant Great bartenders who really knew there craft. Will go back if I am in Portland again.

The acoustics are terrific and they always feature artists who put on a great show. DF is a treat. Jupiter hotel above helps to ensure you can enjoy and not drive. Good drink selection, but mostly just a great music venue no matter what. A must see on PDX music scene!

Driving home to Seattle, we took a break in Portland so my daughter and son-in-law could meet friends in the PDX Industrial District (at Sizzle Pie pizza). We wandered down the street and came across Doug Fir: a hip, quirky throwback to the 1950s but with tattoos. A local who was just leaving raved about it so we gave it a try. My breakfast was excellent and my wife's salad was tasty and enormous. They serve Sisters Coffee which is smooth and good. The restrooms were space-age... I can only imagine what it would be like at night when the indie bands are playing and the bar is packed! The neighborhood might seem a little sketch / industrial but I'd definitely recommend the Doug Fir.

We went to Doug Fur for Portland Burger Week. The restaurants offering was a 1/3rd pound Wagyu beef patty on a sesame seed bun, with roasted poblano dressing, pepper jack cheese, and inca cole slaw. The burger was DELICIOUS!!! We had a side salad and a beer. Our server MAry was VERY good. The regular menu burgers looked amazing as they went by to other tables. We'll be back!!!

It had been unusually warm on our visit to Portland, so we were looking for a cool place to eat, though there were other places we wanted to try in the area. The environment is neat, unique semi-circular booths, nice bar, trendy. The steak bites my husband had were good quality for the price, but my chicken taco small plate didn't have much flavor. Our friends ordered a burger and a salad, and both were very large, and they gave high marks to the salad. We had been spoiled by the great food we had in Portland, so in comparison, the Doug Fir was only average!

The food and service are excellent and the atmosphere is whimsical. The restaurant is built to resemble a log cabin with a funky spin. Definitely try the cinnamon roll french toast. Ah. May. Zing.

This place had the best spinach salad with grilled chicken! I loved it. so much flavor and so fresh. it was perfect for me and what I needed that night. had ATM, which I used, but denied me twice before I could get it to work with my card. however the staff was very very helpful, and friendly.

Go. It's amazing. Great food, cool atmosphere. Vegetarian and vegan options. Meat eaters are spoiled. Great staff, good drinks. Live music downstairs. Even the bathrooms are cool. Go go go!!

been here a couple times, and will definitely be coming back any chance i have while in Portland!! atmosphere always good, service fun and engaging, and the food is killer!!

The Doug Fir Lounge is the coolest. Mid-century modern design, meets classic motel diner meets David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The food is unique —- standard diner fare but with twists. We had excellent drumsticks, ceviche and octopus for appetizers and I had an outstanding veggie burger. Their is a great music venue in the basement that fires up at 9. Adjacent to and part of the Jupiter Inn.

We stopped here for happy hour on a Friday. It had a delightfully eclectic crowd and the decor is lumberjack with a modern spin.

Great, full bar with cozy nooks with heated seating. Stylish and fun. Beware of the restroom- it is down a dark hall and if you are not careful, you will walk straight into a mirror- at this point you must turn quickly :) Later in the evening, it may be hard to find seating for more than 2 or 3.

Doug Fir has a nice Happy Hour menu, they offer live music throughout the week and are very Portland! The environment was warm and relaxed with a fireplace indoors and a nice fire pit outside. Except for having to park on the street, I liked this place.

I recently wrote a not-so-great review of the Doug Fir because we had really bad service (although the food was excellent as always.) Because of the review, I was given a gift certificate with the hope I would come back. We DID go back and we were very pleased with the entirely different experience. Food was delicious (as usual), coffee terrific, wait to be seated was fine, and the server, a cute guy named Max, was stellar. He did not know that we were there because of the circumstances, he was just perfect without any prompting. Took photos for us with our iphones, was prompt, helpful, cheerful, just right. Kudos to the Doug Fir. Really great breakfast in a wonderful atmosphere.

I loved the atmosphere of this place! Sitting by the fire with a cocktail was great. The only thing is that I wish there were more food options in the bar. If you want more “meal” type options, you have to go over to the restaurant side, and that wasn’t the vibe we were looking for so we ate somewhere else.

I was recently in Portland and stayed near Doug Fir in south east Portland. I went there twice in two days because it was convenient and the food and atmosphere are great. The first visit myself and two friends popped in on a Saturday night for dinner before heading out for the evening. I had the potato skins and my friends had the roasted asparagus, the hummus plate, the mac and cheese and the Fir Burger. We were all satisfied with our food and the service. The next day we went back for Sunday brunch - which was awesome. Our waiter recommended the Black Bean Cakes - which I had. I am still dreaming about them! I am not a big eater and I ate almost the entire dish. Order the black bean cakes - you won't be sorry. My friends each had the Columbian Scramble (scrambled eggs with house smoked salmon - which was a hit) and the bagel with cream cheese and salmon. Now this bagel and cream cheese with salmon is not what you would call small or light by any means! It is a large toasted bagel with giant chunks of delicious salmon on the side served with lots of wonderful fruits, veggies and pickled veggies which makes for a lovely presentation. Amazing. Doug Fir also has a downstairs club that we did not go to but it was open for business on a Saturday night (there is a cover). Finally, they have a cool back patio that looked like a nice place to hang out and have drinks or eat. If you are in south east Portland check out Doug Fir.

Great breakfast, especially the bacon. I stop here at least twice a year when in portland. The vibe is laid back, the booths are comfortable, and seriously... the bacon is fantastic. get a side of bacon with whatever you order.

I went to the Doug Fir Lounge after work and planned to have a few drinks with friends and then go to the basement when doors opened. I stepped outside to smoke a cigarette and they when I tried to go back in they said I looked too drunk. I wasn't. The bouncer said I could walk around the block and come back. I did and a different person was at the door, they let me in, and then about 10 minutes later the first bouncer said I tricked him by coming back even though I followed his directions. They made me leave and I didn't get to see the band. I was polite, didn't cause any trouble, and wasn't that drunk. I've never been kicked out of a bar before. Definitely won't go back and I kind of feel they stole money from me since they didn't refund the ticket. It really felt like the bouncer was on a power trip.

I hade a simple but nice dinner here. You get what you might expect. Nice staff, good food. Not too noisy, loved the atmosphere.

The burgers were the reason we went, and we weren't disappointed. We also had the onion rings which I may or may not get again, they were okay but maybe being so this they were a bit greasy. The place is cool but I think the servers may think they are too cool, remember I'm the one tipping!

Many bars in Portland and this one is alright. Limited beer selection and the food is your standard. Funky enough to get your beard on.

Business must be good here if they can afford to insult customers as soon as they walk in the door. My friend and I stopped in to check out the place after visiting some other spots on the same street. This was the last stop and we most definitely would have had a drink and spent money had the initial interaction gone differently. Walk in and make eye contact with the bartender, it starts off fine. She greets us and says “hi, how’s it going?” I respond and say “hi, we are just here to check the place out.” Here is the unbelievably rude part. Her- “that’s creepy” Me- “that’s creepy? (I repeat in shock that she just said that) We’ve never been here before” Her-“....okay?” Me-“okay...so what can you tell us about the place?” Her-“ what do you mean? We serve food and drinks, what else do you want to know?” Me-“such friendly service” Her-“we are friendly!” (changed tone after being called out) We looked around the lounge and left. The lounge is actually pretty cool and intimate. Looks like a fun place to hangout so long as the bar staff doesn’t insult you for no reason and create a sense of unwelcomeness. What I wanted to know was anything to make me feel good about coming to check the place out. What I wanted to know is why am I not wasting my time in this venue. I wanted to know something I didn’t already know, and anybody that understands genuine hospitality would be able to delivery some form of that...not her. I want to be clear she had a very inhospitable tone, body language, and expression. This was not a poor attempt at sarcasm or humor. Good luck to management with this employee. I didn’t catch her name but she was the female bartender working on 2/14 around 12:30am with gauges in her ears.

The food was really good, service attentive, relaxed atmosphere. Creative menu. Went back twice more during my Portland visit.

We were staying at the hip Jupiter Hotel and hit the Doug Fir for a drink prior to going out to dinner. What a find. Great space and vibe. The rhett butler was awesome. Makers Mark, ginger puree and fresh lemon juice. Yummy.

This used to be my wife's favorite place to go when she lived in Portland. We were in town and tried to go for a drink and refused at the door without our passports even though we both had our Canadian drivers licenses and my wife never needed her passport when she lived here. Went to several bars on the same street and was let in without an issue with our licenses. We are both in our thirties and so clearly not under age. Looking at the previous reviews it sounds like they let others in without passports so clearly a very subjective entrance policy. Won't ever make the trip back to this place. Far better bars in Portland

This place is a hidden gym in Burnside. Wouldn't know it from the outside but super cool on the inside. We were there for breakfast but really would love to see it at night. The vibe is super cool with half cut logs everywhere and secrets eating all over the place check it out

Had a dinner and a breakfast meeting at the Doug Fir and we were quite pleased. The venue downstairs for concerts is absolutely breathtaking.

This place is quite nicely located, and the ambiance is hip. Service is respectable when not super thin for time. My partner and I have eaten here before, and we will likely return. 3 out of 5 displayed above reflects our feeling that while the food was good, for the price and serving we were disappointed. Prices are steep ($7 for a small sandwich on a biscuit, pray tell!), & the chicken fried steak was quite chewy. Our waitress seemed well intentioned but was sadly often M.I.A. Cheerio!

I cannot recommend the Doug Fir highly enough. I came down for a concert and stayed at the Jupiter, and actually came to the Doug Fir for dinner, the show, drinks after the concert (on the amazing patio - couches and fire pits? yes please), and breakfast the next morning. The only weak spot was a hostess at dinner who spent fifteen minutes arranging tables for a large group while ignoring several groups of two who were waiting for a table (and could have been - and ultimately were - seated in about 30 seconds). This was just bad customer service, but I'm going to focus on breakfast, because we had a stellar waitress who was super friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic. There were so many great breakfast items on the menu I didn't even know where to start. Also, the decor is fantastic, a little bit retro and a little bit modern, with a great woodsy Pacific Northwest feel. I'm already looking foward to my next trip back to the Doug Fir. A+!

I think this place would be great to go to for the music downstairs but upstairs is kind of lame. The decor and atmosphere are definitely unique and the service is good. I have had a meal here as well and it was pretty good, but nothing fancy and prices are okay. i saw they have a happy hour menu, so maybe next time I am in town I will check that out instead as the prices and food look much better!

Coffee weak, horrible! Very poor service! 10 min in the am to get the horrible coffee? And pork belly in a classic hollendaise? With stone ground mustard in the sauce? Really? Don’t bother!

My boyfriend and I were looking forward to eating here for his birthday. We were seated very quickly, but the service was terrible. The server checked on us twice over a period of 2 hours and when she did we needed to order our drinks very quickly because they were taking forever. She blamed the bartender for being backed up. Myself working in the industry that is something you don’t do. We finally got our drinks after 15 mins of waiting and they were probably the best part of the whole experience. The cheese plate was ok but lacked on the meat. The short rib plate was poorly prepared and everything was undercooked. We also got the burger, it was fine but it is a burger. Not a good experience and sadly won’t recommend this place.

Nice bar and wait staff. Food is actually really good and very convenient if you are staying at the Jupiter. There is a club downstairs with bands booked every weekend as well.

We had dinner here with some friends. Great food. Very nice atmosphere. Enjoyed ourselves. Nice seating area outdoors.

I came to see a show at the Doug Fir, it was my first time. We had dinner before attending the show in the basement. The service was subpar (they seemed annoyed when asked for ice water), but the food was to die for. Absolutely, full of flavor, local and fresh. I want to come back and eat there everytime I go to Portland. And the show was small and cozy. This place is a real treat.

When my friends and I meet in Portland for a weekend of fun we always stay at the Doug Fir! I don't like the large hotel chains, I love the Boutique'ish personalized feel of this place... its not huge and thats what keeps the quality where it needs to be. The restaurant has tasty food and drinks never disappoint.. great coffee spot just down the block and a short walk to shopping and other restaurants!

Quirky place but good food and service. Came for Sunday brunch towards end of brunch period and it wasn't crowded. Got straight in. Good variety of food and drink. I had a chorizo hash that was spicy and tasty. Potato chunks were fresh, eggs were poached and broke over the hash with ooey goodness. Added a little hot sauce (which they had 4 to choose from) and it was excellent. Good sized plate of food accompanied by rustic sour dough bread. My dining partner and I were very pleased with the experience and look forward to going back.

Had dinner and breakfast here. Good food and service at a reasonable rate. Dinner was a bit of a wait but not too bad.

I can't say enough about the funky style of this place. I feel like it's a mixture of log cabin, 1950's Vegas, and a touch of George Jettson. The however, is quite bad. The fish and chips were not edible, the pits was deep fried and full of old tasting grease, and the service was slow. I loved the atmosphere but it's not a place I would ever have a meal at again.

Stayed near here and walked to breakfast . Great breakfast for the two of us ! Shared the Farmers Skillet with toast and it was delicious and more than enough for two . Waitress was efficient, friendly and cheerful . Would go back .

The restaurant was very enjoyable. The food was decent but don't order the bread. Also, outside is a nice sitting area to hang out.

We arrived here for a meeting at the Jupiter, and intended to have a drink at the bar and afterward stay to enjoy a great night at what we thought would be a really cool venue. Don't bother. The bartender greeted us with an attitude that made it clear we weren't welcome. The food was bar food. The place seems to want to be a hip party vibe, but in the end the staff seemed so focused on trying to act cool they forgot to actually have fun and be nice. We walked around the corner, met some great people who had the same experience, then were invited into KBOO the local community radio station, did an on air interview about how cool Portland (or the rest of Portland) was, and went back over to the craft beers and cool spots in the Pearl. It was not worth it to drive out of such a fantastic neighbourhood to get to this place. Save your time and see the real Portland.

When you travel half way across the world to a wedding and some friends are meeting up for a drink and good times it's a real shame when you can't join them.. being non American seemed to be a problem; id was not accepted, driving license is only accepted if you are American! You need your passport; which sensible traveler takes a passport out to a bar? At 39, 38 and 55 I doubt we looked younger than 25... I wish! Horrible, ignorant and discriminatory door staff.. not a very good advert for the city of Portland!!

Assaulted by staff. Defamation coercion assault. Broken ribs. Bouncer broke my ribs. They’re claiming all sorts of lies. Coercion defamation lies. Show video.

Food was good but really came here for the live music. portions are big and two of us shared good beers

Went here for a few drinks with friends after a Blazers game. Cool bar, friendly bartenders, good location, decent selection of drinks. Worth checking out if you're in town.

Myself and 3 other friends in our mid 50’s drove down from Vancouver BC to see The Arkells tonight. We bought tickets in advance. We showed up at the Doug Fir Lounge and we were told that we were not welcome to come in , as the only form of ID we had was our BC drivers license and our American Government issued photo Nexus card that we used to enter the US. Not good enough for this bar! They required a passport. What a shock! Not only are we out the price of 4 tickets, but a 7-8 hour drive to and from home and the cost of our accommodations. Apparently this rediculous policy is on their website or on their tickets, but I can’t find it, and Ticket Fly did not make me aware of this policy. I certainly won’t be coming back or recommending it.

Didn’t know there was a place you could not order a Long Island ice tea from, apparently I was wrong. Then when asked what’s the closest thing to it that you do have the answer was “nothing”. Need I say more????

Doug Fir is a bar, club as well as a restaurant. Over 2 days we had breakfast, dinner and way too many drinks there. The meals as per usual in America are big but good. I had one of the best tenderloins in my 3 weeks of touring at Doug Fir, perfectly cooked rare and super tender. There's no espresso machine so breakfast wasn't as good as dinner but otherwise a fun place!

We drove from Vancouver BC Canada to see the Arkells tonight. A Canadian band who just won a Juno. That’s a 6 hour drive! At the door they asked for ID. We are all in our 50’s. They said it was policy. No problem. We all gave them our drivers license. They said they needed to see government issue ID. Well that’s what that is. But we then gave them our Nexus cards which are issued by the US government to Canadians to cross the border and they would not accept that either. Said we needed our passports. Well Border security didn’t need a passport to let us into the US but apparently this tiny little bar has more authority then they do. They would not let us into the venue and would not refund our tickets. Avoid this bar. And there redicilous policies.

If you love diners, Doug Fir should be somewhere on your To Do list. In Portland, where so many wonderful food options exist, it's hard to stand out...but Doug Fir is a family favorite. A large menu, large portions and consistency make this an excellent family choice, especially for breakfast. Prices are excellent - if budgeting, you can spend about $10 per person and walk out stuffed. Doug Fir is an old diner that has retained its 70's flair. Smoked glass and vaulted ceilings will send many a person back to their childhood. Can be crowded for breakfast on the weekends, so be prepared for a wait....but where don't you have to wait for a good breakfast in Portland on the weekends???

We were there for lunch on a Friday. The wait staff was really friendly and patient considering that my parents and spent an hour hanging out talking with my out-of-town cousin after we were finished with our lunch. We did order coffee at some point, and they brought them and said they were on the house. What a treat. I ordered a salad and it was okay... the dressing was a little too vinegary for my taste. The coffee was really good, though. My dad said his meal was too spicy, but the other two meals were fine. Overall, it was good and I would go back.

pretty standard bar food though their fish and chips with Salmon is quite good. If you are going to a concert, it is a good place to chill before or after, but expect a crowd. Nice bar, but a bit pricey all around. Probably one of the most beautiful interiors in the city/state/country. Wood all round, nice lighting, fire pits inside and out. great place to sit and sip.

next to the Jupiter hotel, very nice if staying at the hotel..the cowboy coffee iced is amazing, they also serve it hot. Great breakfasts

Can highly recommend the Meatloaf for dinner. Great portion size and very well presented. Was the best meatloaf I have ever had in my 60+ years from around the world. Service was fantastic and the young server was very efficient. Nothing was too difficult for her with a beautiful smile.

Worst staff. Very rude. Not worth the visit. They don’t accept IDs from outside the US so if you go to this dive bar bring your passport.

So, me and my buddy were in for Burger Week, we sat in a location that was closed, no signs. Breazy came over and told us. Then we are all waiting for a spot, then Breazy comes over and asks a couple people to scooch, very nicely, and we got seated quick, as though we'd actually been in line, which, really, we were. Burger awesomeness ensued. Odie hooked us up with a nice beverage, not for free or anything, but damn good. No pics cos I ate it and the memory is in my head. So, ask for Breazy, she's better than the host. Rock on.

Good Food, reasonable Price. Nice variety of breakfast items. Lunch/Dinner - awesome hearty food. Great for sharing. Great for groups. The Restaurant is separate from, but shares the space w/ the Doug Fir lounge; so it can be busy.

The Doug Fir lounge is a great sport for catching a band. As is normal for Portland many craft beers are available.

Showed up early to have dinner and stay for the show downstairs that we had tickets for. Weren’t super stoked about the menu options but figured we’d try it anyway. Well, come to find out we decided we wouldn’t eat here again. Food came out cold and left a lot to be desired. The burger was like one you’d get at a cheap burger joint but was $12. Drinks were good. Service was okay, except she let our drinks sit for a while before she brought them over. Figured that was the reason why our food wasn’t fresh and hot. Atmosphere is weird, it is REALLY dark in the restaurant and the bathrooms are very unique and not in a good way. The real highlight of this place is the downtown music venue. Intimate, unique, acoustics are fabulous. Crowd was fun. The bar was great, bartenders friendly and fast. We would return for the music, but not for the food.

we wanted to see the jupiter gallery last saturday and then eat at the doug fir restaurant for lunch...we don't get over here as much as before via cycling, but managed to do so ..we each had a rainier, then i had the simple salad with smoked salmon, and my partner had the avocado tostada with an egg over medium......the food is always creative and delicious, the rainiers hit the spot... the staff and decor are always great! ...thx so much....

Just popped in very briefly for one drink on Saturday night. Our blond bartender was very busy but seriously whipped up the fastest and most delicious drinks in no time! Didn't get her name but she was friendly and amazing! Always check out the DG when I'm in Portland can't wait to come back! :)

Walked past this place the Thursday night before and the place was hoppin'! Huge line out the door, tons of "trendy" looking young people, good music coming out. If we hadn't been so tired and desperate for a beer that night after driving for hours, we probably would have gone in, but we had no idea how cool it was. Next morning, walked over for breakfast. The restaurant is gorgeous. Old woods and textures around, I felt The Dude would be right at home amongst the big round booths. I'm not a breakfast person, but this was the best! The bacon...oh god, the bacon....so good! We were very happy we ordered extra, even though they were quite big slices, they were just so good. Nicest waitress I've had in a long time! So sweet! She brought us out candied bacon to try because I'd never had it and we were severly tempted to order the ice cream they serve with it crumbled on top. Next time I'm in town, I'm coming back for it!

I could eat and drink a meal of just the golden, maple lighting in this place. Wooden beams and old-school low tables backed by round, padded booths, with little tabletop lamps next to your delicious burger, salad, and cocktail. Eat here. Drink here. Visit the patio for a smoke. And see a show downstairs. My only regret is having not stayed in the hotel.

Food wad okay, not super special. Had to ask for utensils, sauces. Tacos didnt even have jalapeños, drinks were watered down. I’m trying to think of one good thing to not sound so negative but ehh, nope, can’t.😂👎IG: satorifoodie

Extensive menu, excellent service. A good place for friends to meet and eat or for families to get together. Can be a bit noisy when crowded, but very good food.

There are several venues here. As you go in, the left side is a restaurant. I didn't eat there, but it had a coffee shop (think Denny's but nicer) vibe. Downstairs, there is a concert venue. I went to the right - to the lounge. Beautiful decor with a large bar, then, to the right is a large room with lots of low seats in front of a huge fireplace. You feel so "apre ski". On the left side, there are several nooks for more private seating. And, in nice weather, you can go outside to a lovely patio. The bartenders are pretty friendly and happy hour (3-6) is a great time to come here. There is an Eat menu with some good food choice. My very favorite little dish was the Steak Bites. I had no expectation about these - but so tender and meaty and the horseradish sauce was perfection. This is really a great hang out!

I ate dinner and had drinks at the bar. The candied bacon burger was delicious. I had a side salad and I always appreciate a place with good dressing. The service was great. But the decor and the vibe of this place is worth visiting. Wonderful patio. Funky bathroom decor (clean!). Just enjoyed my visit.

Took my partner there for first time. We love it. Nice ambiance. Love all the wood and brick. Retro vibe. We sat at the bar, had drinks and appetizers. The serving size/portion of the French fries was a bit small considering the cost. Overall, we enjoy ourselves. We will back.

Left with good vibes! I went on a spontaneous solo trip to Portland and wandered into this happening place for a beer. They had great bands playing with an awesome crowd. Yes, you should absolutely add this to your places to go list for Portland.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Doug Fir. My husband had the Peruvian Scramble, with eggs, cheese, tortilla chips mixed in. I had their terrific French Toast, with homemade champagne fruit sauce with fresh nectarine chunks. Very good. We will return. (the music was a bit loud for a morning meal, but it's a "hipster" spot and we're "oldsters" so we didn't complain :) ) The staff were all very friendly and nice also.

Not only does this place have a great vibe in its dining room with good food and romantic lighting but it also has an awesome music venue downstairs that shows off the natural wood, giving it a cabin feel.

I recently stayed at the Jupiter and ate at the Doug Fir each night as it was so good! The service was fantastic and the food was lovely. Really great quality for a very reasonable price. The restaurant has a really nice vibe too so it's great for parties and events, overall I'd really recommend trying it when in Portland.

A good place to grab a meal or a drink. Prices are moderate and the place radiates an Oregon Wood Rustic decor with a Portland weird vibe. The fireplace or outdoor fire pits place to hang It has a 250 person concert hall below. Not free but a place to catch local acts.

Hipsters everywhere. This is the place for the cool kids. Great food, nice atmosphere but not to stuffy. The ribs are excellent! Prices are reasonable and the staff is helpful and hip. If your visiting Portland you need to come experience Hipster at its finest!

We enjoyed breakfast at the Doug Fir while staying next door at the Jupiter Hotel. They served THE BEST coffee around. When I inquired, I learned that the beans are from Sisters, Oregon. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, especially when we let them know a third person would be joining us. And the food? Breakfast was delicious. The décor is truly a Pacific Northwest paradise.

Great little place to grab a quick eat. Food was good and they were very gracious to customize the order. I drink a LOT of water and they kept it coming lol. Staff was kind and attentive. Look forward to going back next time I'm in Portland.

I attended a concert with The Dear Hunter at this venue, which was my first time for both. We arrived early and had some beer at the bar. There was a nice seating area with a fireplace. You do need to order at the bar before you sit down, as there is no wait staff on that side. We did not eat at the restaurant. The concert venue is downstairs and one thing I liked was bench seating along one wall and another bar with tables downstairs, in addition to the main open floor. The sound was better than I expected. I would definitely come back for another show and hope to try the restaurant next time.

My wife and I are finishing our 45th anniversary vacation in the NW, and we decided to visit the Doug Fir Lounge for dinner and a show. We got there by Uber, and were greeted at the door with an ID check and then got our stamps for the later show. We went to the dinner room which was retro modern, with wood finishings, and were seated at a nice booth overlooking the bar and the dining room. Our waitress was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the short menu. I ordered coffee and my wife wanted a gin martini with a local flair, so our waitress suggested an Uncle Val’s gin which is made in Oregon! The fresh coffee came quickly and my wife remarked that the martini was “yummy”! We ordered food which was good, well made, and the portions were fair size. We the headed downstairs to the lounge which continued the Douglas fir motif, with large wooden logs along the wall and a big center stage. There was only seating along the sides, where we sat for the two opening acts. We got up and moved to the center for the headliner, The Rad Trads. What can I say but the band was tight, the vocals excellent and the music infectious. We had a fantastic magical night my wife and I will never forget. Well done Doug Fir!

This bar, eatery and music venue are a great portland icon. I have been here a few times and never disappointed. Love the bar area and the outdoor patio with bamboo and fireplace. Hidden gem in Portland. Shows here are amazing and the food at the restaurant is great for breakfast lunch and dinner which I have had each.

Really enjoyed the fact that they had two separate bar areas, one with dance floor and the other without. The one with dance floor tended to get really busy, so it was nice to just step out to the other bar for quicker service. Nice seating areas. Great music selection

We sat in the bar/lounge area but there is a restaurant portion that looks like an old diner but with very low lighting as well as a downstairs where shows are held. The seating in the bar area is very chill and atmospheric with low candlelight and a fireplace. The seating is good for both a small group of friends who want a trendy place to hang out and for couples looking for romantic privacy. In fact, they have this private 'cove' to the left of the bar in the back that is perfect for a date - if you can claim in before someone else! We saw a couple getting a little too friendly in it which was the only weird part about this experience. The food was good. A full menu is available if you sit in the restaurant part but we only had access to a bar menu and chose to order a variety of appetizers. All of them were very good: steak bites, jalapeno & artichoke dip with pita, and sliders. I liked the steak bites the best - the horseradish dip that they came with was soooo good! They also have a huge outdoor patio with a fire pit. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to small groups of friends who want a chiller scene than a loud, music filled bar or to couples on a first date.

Nothing fancy, just great food in a very "Portland" place. No espresso drinks here - but you can go to the shop across the street and bring it if you don't want drip coffee. Love the breakfast sandwich and the skillet. Also enjoy just looking at the list of the bands appearing downstairs.

This was a great stop for happy hour. There are a variety of lounging areas and seating choices. The only downside is having to go and order your food and drinks at the bar. The food and drinks were great, but they would benefit from having an actual server rather than overloading the bartender.

Had a fantastic breakfast in a fabulous location. Food was served fast and was delicious and at a reasonable price. Waitress was efficient, friendly and cheerful with a beautiful smile. Nothing was too hard for her with all the customers that she served. Would go back again when ever in Portland. .

If you want great beers, wine, craft cocktail selection in a unique setting, this is your place. Large indoor/outdoor seating area with diverse menu. It's open late. Great for friends or coworkers. Worth a visit while in East Portland, OR

I was at a class up in Portland that lasted until 10:00 PM and needed a place (still open) to get some food before heading back to the hotel. Doug Fir was open and inviting. It was dim lit and cozy. Clean and quaint with it's décor. Service was friendly and food was good. Menu had a nice variety of choices was accommodating to some of my travel mates dietary needs. I would definitely come back.

One of our favorite breakfast spots. This visit supported our good feelings about it. Pleasant wait staff, good quality food and coffee, nice environment.

Marinara sauce tasted like it came from a can. Ordered ice cream with bacon for dessert. The ice cream was mostly melted, with a smattering of bacon. After seeing the restaurant on TV, we were excited to try it out. Very overrated.

The late night is awesome no matter what your style. We hid in a nook and people watched. Cocktails and food were excellent. Bartender really knew what he was doing. Had breakfast next morning (we'd ate there before) and it was also good. We were there early and it was virtually empty so later its likely busier.

We came to Doug Fir for the Sunday Pickin' session. The patio is a very nice outdoor venue for some local Pickin'! We enjoyed the music, food and service. Doug Fir has a very laid back local feel to it. Pretty Gritty was 'Pickin' - great entertaining time!!! Since we are from South Alabama, we felt right at home.

We decided to eat at this restaurant because it was located in the Jupiter Hotel where we were meeting with a group that was in town for a convention. The tables are very close together. In most situations I would prefer more space, but since the restaurant was filled with people who were part of our group, it was nice to have an opportunity to visit with them while we ate. I had the three chicken tacos from the small plates section of the menu. They were very tasty and a nice choice for a (slightly) lighter meal. Our server was friendly and attentive. I usually avoid hotel restaurants, but this one is very good. We dined around 7 on a weeknight. From what I saw and heard when we left evening meetings, it appeared that this becomes a more "high energy" place as the evening progresses.

The restaurant is attached to the Juniper Hotel. It has a rustic, log cabin style to it, very pleasing atmosphere.

We sat at the bar on a Friday night when there was a concert in the basement venue. The staff were amazingly fast and courteous. We were joking with them because we kept ordering munchies and drinks they were out of, unfortunately, but we still had plenty to eat. The Corn Dougs were tasty!

I have driving past Doug Fir ever since it opened. I was always curious, but never felt adventurous enough to stop in. I;m not sure if it was the fact that it was created from an old "Denny's" style restaurant or not, but something kept me away all these years. However, I finally did it. Now I am kicking myself for waiting this long. The atmosphere is, well, for lack of a better word, hip. The staff are very friendly and professional. But most impressive is the food. It was GREAT! Everything was flavorful and best of all, hot. While I would not recommend Doug Fir to someone with small children during the pre-show hours (yes, they have live entertainment in the bar that draws quite a crowd), you may want to take the kids earlier or for breakfast or lunch. I took my two teenagers and they liked it. Lots of 20 somethings for them to watch. Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake I made. Stop in and try it out.

As an avid concert goer, you really can't beat Doug Fir, the Venue itself was great, small, intimate, and very aesthetically pleasing. The venue itself is downstairs from the Restaurant, with a capacity of 299, and the caliber of bands they pull, its a must see venue for any concert goer. A great happy hour, and relatively cheap drinks during the show makes for a fun time. We got the weekend brunch, the night after our show, as we stayed over at the Jupiter(also recommended if you're seeing a show here). The Brunch Menu varies slightly from the weekday Menu, but you can still get most classic Breakfast items. Service was good, very prompt and attentive throughout the meal. A great overall experience, would love to see another show here again!

I've only been here once for breakfast but I enjoyed my meal so much I had to shout about it. The black bean cake breakfast was so unlike anything I would expect to eat in this hipster logger bar - black bean patties on arugula with poached eggs and hot sauce - but it was so yummy and original that I would drive down from Seattle just to eat it again.

This place was definitely a favorite and will forever miss it. Hopefully I get to travel there once again.

Located on the property of the Jupiter Hotel, great bar and restaurant. Opens at 7 for breakfast which is served till three. Two eggs, bacon or sausage or ham and potatoes and toast is 11.00, a good deal.

First visit, and we were pleasantly surprised. It was for brunch, simple eats, GREAT flavors, loved the crispy hash browns, perfect eggs, SUPERB service, and we can't wait to return.

I came to the Doug Fir Lounge to see King Black Acid. And since i had arrived way to early I thought I might as well eat diner upstairs in The restaurant. I sat at a small table at the window facing Burnside Street. I had had a hamburger earlier in the afternoon and didn't feel like having something like that at all. Looking through the Menu I spotted the Steelhead Fish and Chips. That founded great. I like fish and chips, but I have never had Steelhead as the fish for this. So that is what i ordered. The fish and chips came in a basket. Two pieces of Steelhead fish. and loads of chips filled out the basket. This was the most unique order of fish and chips I have ever had. I loved the taste of this fish. Service was very good. The server was excellent. And I was served with very little wait at all. Sitting at the table to my side were to British women talking about their vacation. And of course the topic of the Solar eclipse came up. As did wale site seeing boat trips on the coast.

We stopped in for a Happy Hour prior to going to a play nearby. The HH menu had a good range of choices and the food we ordered was very good. Drink specials were also very good. Quality, quantity & reasonable features of Doug Fir. The VG rating was not based on any displeasure with the food or drinks but we had only a couple items on the menu. They also have breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will return to try other meal choices as the setting is interesting and they have very good food and it is quite likely that we will raise the rating. The setting is very comfortable with choices for both indoor and outdoor seating.

My friend and I were travelling around America and the people we stayed with recommended this as a place to go for live music! The happy hour is great, the staff are super friendly. There is a nice beer garden, lounge and bar area, it has a very cosy feel. Later downstairs turns into a great venue, the bands that played in there were indie, folk and bluegrass styles of music. It had a great vibe, lots of fun!!! Wish I lived nearer!

Went to see the Built to Spill concert on Nov 1, 2019. Six men age 45-50 with Canadian drivers licenses got turned away by the doorman because we did not have our passports with us. No apology, just told we cannot enter. Who brings a passport out to bars?!! Never in my life have I ever been asked for a passport at a bar. Won't be going back to this place that discriminates against non-Americans

The beverages and food here were very good, but the service was lacking. It seemed like the bartenders did not like their job because they were not friendly and seemed annoyed with myself and other customers. I got there right before the band stopped playing and I would have enjoyed going downstairs and listening to live music, so I would probably give this place another try.

We ate here. It is very retro. Great view of street to people watch. The food was very good and the service same. Highly recommend.

On a Thursday night, we walked around the various dinner places in the East Burnside area. Most were ridiculously crowded: a lot of people crammed into a small space. We opted for the Doug Fir because the space was expansive and when we went, it was relatively empty. We got a large booth by the front window, and had a nice, relaxed meal, where we never felt pressured to give up our seats to an incoming group. We had salad, two main courses, drinks and desserts. The cosmo I had was the best mixed drink I've had in weeks (and I've been out and about enjoying the summer nights), the salad my next favorite because of the unusual ingredients that worked well together. The service was excellent: relaxed, professional, attentive. The atmosphere was quite nice, too. I haven't been to the Doug Fir since their early years, and I wonder why it is that I haven't been back until this past week?!?
Checking out Portland nightlife
Retro Cool reno of old 1960’s downtown motor lodge & restaurant. Great center downtown location. The ‘bones’ of this restaurant look like it could have been a Howard Johnson’s but I don’t know for sure. Great redo with lots of big windows & use of natural wood & stone. Mirrors cleverly make the space feel huge & are done well. Lovely seating in the evening as well. Food is Ok, chicken tacos in soft corn shells were filling but on the dry side. Beef burger is tender, huge & very juicy. Red smashed potatoes a nice side & done well. Cider Riot served icy cold 👍
