This is a great, little family run cafe/restaurant that sells really good, reasonably priced food. My wife and I go every time we're in Portland from the UK. As usual, I had a terrific omelette and salad and excellent fruit juice. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, good for kids too, just off the main street. Throughly recommend the place.

Our kids come here almost every weekend for breakfast, and they're right: lots of good choices for breakfast and friendly service. And everything we've had has been delicious. This family-operated place is not very big and has lots of regulars, so it is smart to get there early or be willing to wait.

Food is mediocre...got stomach upset the only other time I have been here. Thought I would try the cafe again. We walked in, sign said seat yourself, sat down at a window seat, and the man behind the counter rudely yelled at us from across the room...don't sit there, saving that seat, sit somewhere else. Everyone in the cafe looked up at him and then at us. We were flabbergasted, walked out and will never go to Down To Earth Cafe, again.

First time visit. Met a friend here for breakfast. Seating was readily available but the dining on a weekend could be a wait as the seating area isn't very big. Menu is extensive with lots of options. Service was prompt. The food was very good, served fresh and hot. Portions are certainly adequate but not huge. There was a minor mix-up at first. The server brought food to our table that wasn't ours. And when our food did arrived we had to switch out the toast as it had been mixed up between our two plates. No big deal. I would eat here again for sure and maybe try lunch next time. Lots of nice lunch selections on the menu. Nice area of town to stroll around afterward and visit some quaint shops.

Traditional breakfast with a garden flair, with local spinach, beets and carrots just to name a few. Be sure to get a juice or smoothie. Rarely a wait and always fast service!

Great breakfast, good coffee refilled often. Sunday special included chicken apple sausage scramble. I was impressed with vegan/vegetarian options on menu as 2 family members are vegan and Iโm always looking for restaurants that have options for omnivores and other preferences/requirements.arriving before 9 meant lots of Multnomah Village parking and no wait for seating...quite different as we left. Only complaint if you can call it that, was we had to get up and ask for the bill after waiting 10 minutes after trying to signal for the bill...nice to not be rushed out the door and the wait staff was busy so not a big issue.

I took friends to lunch there recently. They had never been there before. "Breakfast til 3PM" caught their attention. Traditional Breakfast and Salmon Benedict. were winners! Their service is always pleasant. I only wish more people would find this place in Multnomah Village.

ate there and was pleasantly surprised! It was VERY good, healthy, great service, and nice setting to visit and watch passer bys

Friendly service, yummy food! What more could you ask for? Cup of coffee and a breakfast burrito to go. Highly recommended.

Quaint little cafe on a side steet in west Portland. We all had some version of their French Toast and it was great. Good service even on a busy Sunday morning.

This cafe reminded me of the ones in the Washington Heights area of N.Y. Small, busy, and very tasty food. We came in for a late lunch and loved the turkey Ruben sandwich and the grilled brie sandwich with pear. The ingredients were top notch and fresh. Portion size was just right for us, not too big. Service was fast and friendly, but even at 1:30 on a Sunday the place was packed. Tables are close to each other but we did enjoy the decor. One wall has a collection of folk-art mirrors. Their website says their Persian style dinner is for private party only, so I would suggest calling them about dinner.

I liked how straightforward this place was. Really have no complaints. It's nothing fancy, just a good place to get breakfast food that isn't overpriced.

I've had lunch here before at least 2 years ago as I don't get to this area often. Last visit, my lunch was super good (a salad) but today I opted for soup & stir fry. Their spinach lentil soup was ok though super salty. I ordered brown rice veggies & chicken stir fry. They served it with brown rice but I didn't want to wait so didn't request a switch. The veggies were over-done, too much tamari sauce so too salty & the chicken was dry. Portion was quite large and server very nice but the entree was not up to par.

Small, quaint, awesome way to start the morning. Service was quick and made sure we were taken care of. Great portions at great prices!

I found this hole in the wall when exploring Multnomah Village. It was afternoon and had a Salmon Burger which was unremarkable. The breakfast dishes looked better. Service was slow and not the friendliest. Quite crowded space and obviously a popular place for locals. Not sure I would bother going back as are so many dining options in Portland.

we ordered the Poblano Benedict over polenta> the food was expertly prepared. We split the meal and nothing additional was was ordered. 28.00 seems excessive to split a breakfast that serves relatively small portions ....??????? The service was excellent!!!!

Needed some breakfast the other day, someone had mentioned that this place had good food. Very tasty, veggie scramble topped with smoked salmon was outstanding. Good coffee and great service. An equal to the place down the hill ๐, GF aware also ๐, go there!

We were seated right away next to the bay window on a Friday morning. Decor was warm and inviting. Looked a little south of the border. Wait staff was prompt. Coffee was delicious. Two thumbs up on focus on organic food. Sugar, ketchup, eggs and ingredients all were organic and had a better taste surprisingly. Even the home fries tasted very good. Surely will go back. Food quality was above par.

Cute family owned cafe. Amazing service! great for both vegan or meat eaters.. excellent food!! Their french toast is super yummy! Good with small kids too.

Wanted to like this place after reading all the reviews. We got the NW scramble. Had smoked salmon that had an awful fishy taste. We love smoked salmon. This was the not fresh gone bad kind of fishy. We also ordered two coffees. There were 3 men working there and only two other tables of clients (4 people). We were never offered a refill. The eggs weren't even warm. We barely touched our food. No one came by to ask how we liked our breakfast. When the man left our check, he looked down at our plates saw that we had not eaten anything but never asked is something was wrong. Needless to say, we wont be returning. All this for $17. Should have gone to Marcos a few doors down where we know the food is always fresh and well prepared. PS rarely write a negative review.

It's a small cafe in Multnomah Village that is quaint, comfortable and friendly. Three of us went for lunch on Monday July 6, 2015. This was our first time there, and all three of our meals were excellent! I highly recommend this to anyone who appreciates high quality food that is not only healthy but delicious! The service was also very good and we felt welcome and we'll looked after.

What this small restaurant lacks in atmosphere it makes up by serving well prepared local food with friendly, personable service. This is a great place for friends or family to eat in a casual atmosphere. We enjoyed a hearty Vegetable Skillet Fry, another Skillet Fry (a special of the day) with Turkey Bacon and a Veggie Omelette. We all enjoyed our food and will be returning!

While window-shopping in the lovely Multnomah Village neighborhood, we stumbled upon the Down to Earth Cafe, and decided to eat lunch there, in celebration of a friend's birthday. She had the linguine omelet, which she loved; my other friend had a harvest salad, which looked equally good, and I had a cup of lemon chicken rice soup, and a roasted turkey sandwich, and some of their good coffee. My lunch was delicious! We all want to return to this little gem sometime next month. It was very cozy sitting in the booth by the bay window too. The owner also gave my friend a complimentary helping of Baklava for her birthday. I got two bites & it was also delicious.

The is a great little cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Based in multnomah village and just up the road from Marco's, it's certainly got stiff competition. But, the food is really nice, it has a great atmosphere and you don't need to queue for an hour...unlike Marco's. OK, so the portions might not be up to Marco's standards, but it's a great local eatery. Worth a try...

We dined midweek to experience the Cafe in a more relaxed atmosphere. We were pleased by the quick acknowledgement when we entered. Once seated water was served and we were asked if we wanted to order another drink. The cafe was busy but the service staff was attentive and personable. The hot food was served in a timely manner. I watched as the waiters checked on tables to assure that the customers were satisfied or requested something else to make their dining experiences pleasant. This is a quaint smaller establishment that served it's customers well. We will return.

Small and sustainable great for special diets and vegan, vegetarians and flexitarians. Good tea and egg dishes. Funky 70's feel. Friendly, enthusiastic service and street parking.

Escaping the hustle and bustle of the Christmas shopping season, my sister and I stopped in for a late breakfast. The menu had an excellent variety of options, with selections suitable for all dietary preferences. The home fries are a MUST!

This is a little kitschy joint in Multnomah Village, which appears to be very popular. The atmosphere was busy but cozy. Kind of hippy-chic I suppose. There seemed to be only one cook and one waiter (with maybe an owner/manager guy going back and forth) so the service was a little slow. However, the service was great when we got it, and the food was pretty good, too. I took my son there for his birthday. He frequents the place often because he loves their smoothies! There were tons of healthy eating options here.

When I walked in, the manager told me to sit anywhere (there were only 2tables occupied) and when I made for the window, he said, " not there, anywhere elese". His attitude made me uncomfortable and I was only a couple of doors from Marco's where I know the food is good, so I left.

Good coffee. Good food. Vegetarian options. The tomato soup was excellent and their are lots of skillet dinners/ omelet items that can be order. My husband and I ate here 3 times will visiting the area and we will go back next time we are in Multnomah! Best of all the food is made from scratch and very tasty๐๐ผ

I am an Eggs Benedict lover! The Fourth of July Breakfast special was The Artichoke Eggs Benedict, it was fabulous! The server also asked, "How I wanted my eggs poached: soft, medium or well done"? That was a first. I was there at 8:00 am as the people were gathering. The server understands about service and was great to keep our water glasses full. Remember next year on the Fourth to grace Down to Earth with your presence.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch at the end of May. It wasn't particularly crowded or busy. Went with an out of town friend. She ordered the smoked salmon panini (she was disappointed with her food) and I ordered a falafel sandwich (vegetarian) which was quite tasty. Typical immigrant restaurant experience. They smile, hoping you like the food. It's not quite up to the standard you were hoping for. Prices slightly more than you want to pay. I feel like I have gone through the same experience many times in my life. Would I be back? Nope, not any time soon.

I work with sustainability efforts and the Down to Earth Cafe epitomizes the sustainability ethos. It is much quieter than Marco's and feels more personal. Grab one of the booths and you have perfect place for a meal and a business meeting. They have lots of good, local food, so you can't go wrong.
Tasty and gracious
A friend suggested lunch at this relaxed, casual restaurant, which is a favorite of hers. The menu offers options for different diets, which is really nice. Important, even. We were both happy with our meals. The tomato coconut soup was fab-u-lous delicious! Chatted with the man whom I assume is the owner. One of the desserts offered is Persian ice cream. What is that? It has pistachios, saffron and rose water. Hmmm. As my friend and I lingered and chatted he brought us a taste of the ice cream. Very nice touch. And we enjoyed the taste too.
