This place quotes on their website, "Voted “Best Burger/Best Outdoor Dining/Best Kid-Friendly” So I had the afternoon free and wanted to experience this best burger. Well, it's not the best burger by a long shot! While eating it, I wondered who does the voting... the buns aren't even toasted! The best thing about the meal were the French fries and view. Like in the title of my review, I would have given it 2 stars but the view is good. I will have to say that there were other things on the menu I saw other people order that looked delicious, like the blackened grouper. But if you're going here for the burger, seriously, don't waste your time!

I’ve never heard of this nor was there any mention of it on menu or from waiter. On our salad, There was less than 1 cherry tomato 🍅 and 4-5 slivers of shredded cheese. Food tasted bad as well. Instead of downwind it’s down hill. We won’t be back. Ps the food also tasted nasty. I barely ate any leaving it. Told waiter no to taking home for later. The place also seemed dirty to me. should have been a sign but used to really like this place. Too bad it is really bad now. The location is great. Hopefully, they’ll close and a really good restaurant will open up. Note, no elevator so handicapped, beware.

This restaurant has long been a great place to watch airplanes but their food has gotten so good in recent years that it's worth a visit just for the great food and excellent service. The Salmon BLT is superb! Generous portion of good quality fish, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cheeseburgers are among the best I've had anywhere and if they have the banana pudding don't miss it! Sit outside weather permitting as the energy of the airport operations is fascinating.

I've been going to the Downwind for years, and it's one of my favorite places to bring people. There's an outdoor deck which is great for watching planes land on runway 20 (or take off from 2). You'll be surrounded by pilots, airport workers, student pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and burger lovers - this place is great for people who love airplanes, but it also brings out people who love good food! Aside from the deck, you can sit in an enclosed patio (air conditioned and heated so you can still observe the planes without being at the mercy of the weather), or an indoor area and bar. This place can get busy, so bring some patience and sit back and observe planes and people if you have to wait a minute or so for one of the busy servers. "Everything here is excellent," is what I normally say to people I bring there. And I've always been right. They are known for their burgers (which I will warn you come stuffed with some ingredients, which is why they are uniquely good, but don't really appeal to me). Aside from their burgers, you will find a good selection on the menu. I always order the greek salad with blackened chicken, and it's one of the best salads in town. They have a number of Greek specialties on the menu. The setting is unusual, as it is in a building that was part of a military base. Take a stroll down the hallway to the bathrooms, and you will observe a large window to a hangar with a bunch of planes. Kids love this place, but please note that Friday nights are for Adults only. Excellent place for a date with a stranger or a spouse :) there's always something to see or talk about. Reasonably priced. Very casual. Small bar area, but many people just order drinks out on the deck in the evenings. Parking is free, but please note that it fills up every day during peak hours, so you might have to park in the overflow area next to the air traffic control tower. Go there, you will not be disappointed!

DannyL If you are in the Atlanta area and looking for something the whole family can enjoy; here's a tip. Visit the Downwind Restaurant at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK).. I have been eating there since earning my pilot's license at PDK in 1986. The food is good with plenty to choose from. The service has been consistently good for many years. The airport runways are visible from inside the restaurant as well as the outdoor deck. It is great fun for the whole family. There is a play area for the kids; also visible from the restaurant. There is the opportunity to meet people from the world of aviation. Who knows, you might decide to become an aviator too.

Four people - burger, fish sandwich, chicken breast sandwich, turkey sandwich. ALL EXCELLENT! Can't go wrong here. You don't go here for the furnishings, but the food and runway views are great.

I have a three year old son who loves anything that flies (ok his dad loves planes too), so we decided to take him to Downwind while visiting Atlanta and what a great experience. This is a popular restaurant and rightfully so, the food, atmosphere and service are awesome. This restaurant sits right on the edge of a busy general aviation airport so if you love planes, the scenery is great too. I am glad I visited and will definitely visit again!

We wanted a quick bite because we arrived late for the Atlanta Warbird Weekend on a Saturday. It is bar food but it is good bar food. Not fancy, more like a cafe. There is a small bar to serve "adult beverages".....We enjoyed our meals very much. We had an excellent server. I wish I could remember her name. There is a nice view of the runway. Kid friendly too. It is upstairs in a hangar bldg.

We love the airport atmosphere, and the food is quite good. But the last several times we visited, the servers all acted like they could care less about our business. I've brought several work groups there for dinner and drinks and the staff seems as if they are inconvenienced if we want to move a table to suit our group. The A/C and heat on the screen-in room are only minimally functional.

Where else can you sit out, watch planes and jets thunder past, and have good food ? We came over partly to avoid Atlanta's horrible evening rush hour. We got a table right near the sliding doors and our waitress showed up quickly. The food is simple and good. The beer is cold and the prices reasonable. Burgers were excellent, as was the turkey club.

Awesome atmosphere and decor. Love sitting in the back where I can watch the planes take off and land from a different perspective. Awesome playground at the airport next to the downwind. Last time I was there, though, the waiter was rude and unprofessional, but I think the staff were receptive to my comments.

I recently went back to a restaurant that I had visited about 15 yr ago.. It's a great place to have lunch by yourself or to take someone for a business lunch. Interesting because it sits right on the runway at Epps Field .... you can see all the airplanes take off and land....Great atmosphere ! By the way: The food is excellent ! Lots of bar food, but specials each day and today I had Blackened Sea Bass.... Outstanding !!

I recommend this place. I live nearby and on my last visit I met one of the owners, a Greek gentleman named Andreas (sp?), and he seemed like a a serious restaurateur. The food is very good and it's fun to watch the planes coming and going, Every month or so they have a jazz infused cover band called The Style Points on a Friday night and they are good.

This little hidden gem has the best food! You're likely to be greeted by the owner or his brother and by your second visit they'll know you by name! Don't let the location fool you, the food is top notch.

Downwind is owned by a Greek family, and they know how to turn out amazing food consistently. It's fun to watch the planes land and take off while eating, and their outside deck is quite popular. My husband and I visit at least twice a month, and we have never been disappointed.

Always a great place to take the kids. One of the best burgers in town. Great little playground for the kids to play. Food is always good with good service.

Food was adequate and well prepared for the specials. Regular menu items are adequate as well. Bar available for those who desire it.

Sitting out on the deck enjoying the airport goings on was good. Sometimes they have live music in the bar on Friday nights which can be good. The food is inconsistent and so is the service. It's too bad neither of the restaurants at the airport can get their act together.

Bar food for sure. The server was really off--maybe under some kind of influence? Food was good. Basic, but with a lovely view of the planes taking off and landing. Good, inexpensive experience.

I am part of group that has been eating burgers together once a month for 20+ years. This is one of our all-time favorites. Nothing unique or special or "uptown"; just an affordabe, juicy burger (tempted to say "like they used to be"). It's located at Peachtree DeKalb Airport so when the weather is nice there is an outdoor deck where you can watch planes take off and land. Decent enough beer list with small bar; old school cafe' decor (and I mean old school, not "recreated" or "design concept" old school). I couldn't speak to the rest of the menu; all I ever get is the burger. If you're in the area it's worth the stop. But he hungry- it's an 8 ounce burger and coms with fries.

On Wednesday evening, myself and two girlfriends, along with our seven children (three of whom are my own) decided to play at PDK airport park, and then take our kids up to Downwind Restaurant and Lounge to have dinner. We arrived around 5:30pm, and were seated on the enclosed patio. Two of the three of us had been solo parenting all week, and it felt nice to not think about making dinner. Our children are all five and under, and, to put it plainly, they were loud. They were joyful, excited to be with their friends, and had a hard time staying in their seats. For the most part they stayed right around our table, but we had to chase some rogue one year olds and four year olds a few times. A minute or two after we put our orders in, a manager came up to our table, looking quite stern, and things unraveled quickly. The manager (Kip, I believe?), began talking to us like we were five years old, asking myself and my friends twice if we were listening, despite us clearly giving him our full attention. He then proceeded to tell us, in a voice dripping with disdain, that we were too loud, and that our kids must remain seated for the duration of dinner (it should be added, at this point, that Downwind is not a fine dining establishment, but rather a casual bar/restaurant). That said, all businesses deserve respect, and we were loud. However, it was in no way the message that proved offensive, rather how it was delivered. You don't have two or three kids without occasionally being told you are too loud, and I always do my best to rectify the noise/issue after someone brings it to our attention. Kip's address to us moms was a clear scolding, the disapproval evident in his voice, and the way he was glaring at us. After he left, my friends and I all glanced at each other in amazement that someone would be so rude, and we fairly quickly made the decision to ask for our food to go and to let our kids eat outside. Kip walked back and forth a few times heading to other tables, and I finally got up the nerve to say something to him. I said, "Excuse me, I just wanted to let you know that the way you spoke to us earlier made us feel terrible about ourselves and really hurt our feelings. We are moms doing our best, our husbands are out of town this week, and we were just trying to get out of the house." That is not a direct quote, but it is correct in essentials. He proceeded to respond that when he saw three moms not parenting their kids, he felt the need to talk to us. After my friend responded, "Excuse me?" He then said that parents come in here to have them (the restaurant) babysit their kids, and that other parents (gesturing around the patio) manage to control their kids. He then proceeded to claim he wasn't saying we had done this, but, (please don't insult our intelligence) he had very clearly said we were A) bad parents and B) couldn't control our kids. As moms who work so hard to raise thoughtful, loving, kind children, this felt devastating- even if we knew it wasn't true in our hearts. I told him he was being very rude, and he asked if I wanted to talk to the owner (which should have been a very clear sign that the owner would react exactly as he did). When the owner finally graced me with her attention, I relayed the entirety of the story, including that I was trying to show the manager that we were simply people, tired from a long week without our partners, and that what Kip had said was incredibly hurtful. She responded by shaking her head and saying, "Well, he's a nice man." I repeated what he had said, all of which was decidedly NOT nice, and she retorted with, "I don't understand what your husbands being out of town has to do with anything." I told her I was just trying to show her we moms were humans doing our best, people that need grace. She then proceeded to say condescendingly to me, "I think you are tired." At this point the owner and her manager had insulted myself and my friends in every way imaginable, and it was time to go. She thanked me for telling her, but I could tell I was being completely, wholeheartedly dismissed. And, you know what, she is right, we are tired. We may mess up some times, but we also do a lot of things really well. We spend our days kissing boo boos, and pretending to be dinosaurs. We read the same kids books 40 times in a week and we do crazy things to get our toddlers to eat vegetables. But being exhausted doesn't mean that their words weren't incredibly painful, or make them true. A grandmother stopped us on the way out and said, "I saw what happened to you- you didn't bother us at all. That was shameful." I don't want the other staff to be negatively impacted, but goodness, the manager and owner acted incredibly rudely, and, should you have the choice, I think there are other restaurants who deserve your business more. In fact, the 57th Fighter Group has always been incredibly kind to our family- so maybe that should be your PDK airport choice.

I really enjoyed eating here. The decor is no biggy but the food is fabulous. I grew up in a racially mixed neighborhood and love Greek food. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone. while the other eatery along the runway may have more in the way of decor I liked the food better here.

Wide variety of good food. Not much of an atmosphere on the inside, but a great second-story view of the airport with outside seating for the full effect if you desire. Service was friendly and neighborly.

You should try to ive before 11:00 am or after 1:00 pm, in order to get an outside table The view from the outside deck of the air traffic is great. The food is very good, especially the greek food.

Moved my son to Atlanta and a relative carried us to the Downwind. What a pleasant surprise it was. The menu was so creative, which was refreshing has a definite Greek flavor but the other items were so unusual. Triggerfish Ruben, Salmon BLT everything was so good. Comfort food flavors with a casual bar twist. what a fun place to eat, drink and watch planes (some vintage) take off and land.

This is one of two restaurants at this airport. One is very expensive. This one is much more reasonable. The menu is a bit more limited but the burgers are excellent (hand formed patties) and they had a delicious lemon desert. There is an outside patio as well as inside seating. One warning: you have to go up two flights of stairs to go to the restaurant. And, by the way, happy 30th anniversary! Go to their facebook page for daily specials.

Name one place where you can meet your business pals for a delectable lunch while watching planes take off and land? Downwind is the place! Our party of seven were quickly seated for lunch with a great view of the runways and hangars. I ordered the Mandarin salmon spinach salad which was a true delight. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the dressing while flavorful, was light and delicious. My friends sandwiches looked equally delicious and our waitress was attentive, keeping our large glasses filled to the brim with our favorite beverages. What a treat!

This restaurant is at the Peachtree Dekalb airport. Our friend took us here and it was a gem. Great location as you can watch the planes take off and land while you enjoy your very good Greek food.

This is a small little restaurant located on the Peachtree airport. It does have some nice tables to seat outside and watch what is happening on the runway. However this is a small runway so don't expect to see a lot of activity. Mostly small Cessna's coming and going and the occasional helicopter. The food is fair as is the wait staff nothing out of the ordinary you couldn't get anywhere else. The only thing that sets this restaurant apart is that is does set almost right on the runway which makes it and interesting place to eat. Especially if you have kids. They also have a play ground right outside for the children as well.

I am a pilot who flies to/from the Peachtree Dekalb Airport frequently. I’ve been a customer for a long time. I wish I could be more positive, but the service and food quality have declined over time at this local institution. I recently ordered a hamburger and fries, and requested extra ketchup. The amount of ketchup in the photo is accurate, about a tablespoon for the whole meal. I asked for more but didn’t receive it. The quality of the burger and fries was OK, but not the premium quality that they used to serve. The restaurant was not particularly busy and I was seated in the atrium. Also, the air conditioning in the atrium, the best place to view airplane takeoffs and landings, is inadequate, so it is uncomfortably warm during the lunch hour (recent visit, outside temperature in the mid-80’s). Other customers relocated to the inner part of the dining area because of the heat. On a positive note, the fish and specials can be quite good, although not inexpensive. Too bad about the declining status, because I am a strong supporter of local businesses and airport restaurants in particular.

This is a cool place to eat because you can see the airplanes taking off and landing at PDK airport. The food is good, but nothing you'd write home about.

Excellent in the Spring or Fall when you can sit outside because of the unique atmosphere. Located right in the midst of a small aviation biz park, guests get to watch planes take off and land.

This place knows what they are doing and is flying high. The food is quite good and the staff is very helpful and friendly. A friend and I really enjoyed the gyro and the hamburger. The waitress even got me a to-go cup with a new serving of rootbeer. I loved being able to view the private planes taking off and landing. They can be easily seen out the large glass enclosure and you can even see some planes starting up. The atmosphere in and around the place is cool too. It is a 50's era building with lots of airport and airplane pictures on the walls.

Where else can you eat and drink right by the airport runway at a regional airport? Service, food and ambience are good Full bar.

It was a nice day out so how can you resist dining out on the patio with a good view of the planes coming and going at PDK Airport? Our little one loves planes and he often gets hungry so this is the best of both worlds as it is close to the airport's popular playground. I had the special turkey burger, which was pretty delicious. The fries were well cooked but I would have liked them to be seasoned a little better. The little one had a grilled cheese sandwich, which he enjoyed because of its melty, gooey cheese. On other occasions we've tried the chips and salsa (tasty but not too special), a small vanilla ice cream cup and the coconut pie, which was nice. We had a large party and even though the restaurant's sign said that everyone had to be present before they would seat you, the staff was very accomodating to us. Can't wait for the next nice day to come back!

Enjoying firecracker shrimp and their Greek spaghetti and Laurens having the salad and grille salmon.Food is always good, fresh and tasty.

We had lunch there yesterday after hearing how great it was. Our friend requested that his soup be piping hot and his salad dressing on the side. The soup was not really hot, and he had to ask for his salad dressing. My fish sandwich had one small piece of previously frozen fish. My husband's steak was good, but his mixed vegetables were cold and old. I don't think it's worth going to again. The iced tea was good.

I've eaten here dozens of times. I'm a pilot and l enjoy airplanes and good food. Best burger around and the buffalo shrimp are excellent. Also enjoy the salmon BLT. Great place for drinks and watching airplanes. Outside deck may be a little loud if you aren't really into airplane but inside deck or inside the bar will set you up. One of my all-time favorites for good food and an atmosphere I enjoy. Never had a bad menu choice and the Greek specials can't be beaten.

This place is pretty no-frills, but it's clean, and friendly, and the food is consistently the same - good :-)

Ate here while traveling. Loved the view of the runway and watching the planes land and take off. Food was very fresh and excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended!

Downwind is a special place. It serves those who work at PDK airport and lots of locals as well. I think Friday night is live music night but there might be more. The food is varied in terms of cuisine. The salads are good; the sandwiches excellent. I haven't tried "entrees" per se but imagine they are good. The seating options are the best feature. You can sit inside (which is where the music and bar are and which is quite large), on a covered deck/patio area, or in an open deck/patio section. The last two sections allow wonderful views of the runways. Evenings are the best as the runway lights come up as the sun goes down. I'm a fan.

This is a great, extremely casual place for lunch. I have come here several times and the service is always friendly and fast even though lunch on weekdays is very busy. You need to go early or late on a nice day to get a seat on the deck. The sandwiches are fresh and yummy. It is a unique location so it is fun to bring out of town visitors.

Hadn't been back here in a few years. Still has a great burger. The outside deck is a neat place to eat and watch aircraft up close. Lunch on Friday had a high volume of aircraft activity to enjoy!

Been eating at your restaurant for many years. But no more. Thanks very much for ripping me off on the two salmon BLT's. If I would have combined the amount of fish on both plates .. you might could have made .. maybe .. one "half" of one sandwich. Thanks for taking two whole dollars off the bill. That was so very kind since the fish was the main part of the meal. That left me paying $20 dollars for two orders of fries. You even trimmed back the bread to make it look like a full sandwich to accommadate the quarter size portion of fish. I hope you can use the remaining bread for your next order to save you even more money on the next guest !!! That was a "true" class act carving the bread out for a smaller sandwich. I've never seen that done before. Thanks very much. What a deal. Sure hope you treat your locals better. -Greg

My complaint lies with the owner. My friend and I decided to go do Downwind, have some beers, and enjoy our Saturday afternoon catching up. We arrived there at 3pm, found a table on the porch, and proceeded to have a great time ordering Coronas. Then things changed drastically: We were approached by our waitress who informed us that the owner (who was also bar tending) asked us to leave our table and finish our beers at the bar so "people waiting inside can have our table." We were both in shock. This is first time that either of us have ever been asked to physically get up from our table, come inside, and sit at the bar. The most insulting part is that we spent more money on our drinks ($60) than the majority of the families there who came in and ordered food. Think twice before dining here . .

A nice place to eat and watch planes arrive/depart. Prices are good and serving sizes reasonable. Service is a bit lacking and the inside seating is close. Despite those two drawbacks, it is a nice pace to dine.

We live close to this area, and found this restaurant on Yelp. Great food, great service, and good scenery. The restaurant overlooks the Peachtree DeKalb Airport runway, and you get to see the planes arrive and depart. Prices are great and so is the food. Bar also does a good pour for decent drink prices. Love getting the greek spaghetti and the fried pickles and green beans. Don't think you can get anything bad there! We're regulars there and go once every 2-3 weeks. Recommended for locals and tourists (it's worth the 20 minute drive from the Downtown area, or 10-15 minute drive from Buckhead).

It has been a number of years since I've been to the Downwind. Still a nice, "dive" type restaurant overlooking the PDK runways. Service is good, but food was average this time. Website advertised having an all natural hamburger, but it was marked off the menu. Was looking forward to trying it.

Our four team members eat out together frequently. We often explore the non-chain restaurants; sometimes the results are similar: good, average food. That summarizes my opinion of last night's visit. In my opinion, Downwind did a competent job serving and preparing American bar food. The restaurant features two levels of terraced tables (one air conditioned, one al fresco, plus an indoor bar area. They had live music on the Friday "Date Night" I visited. We liked the 'on the Tarmac' aviation vibe, but my French fries were soon room temperature, unlike Irish pubs that keep thicker fries together vertically, retaining heat. My cake had almond slivers, and a chocolate chopped almond topping further topped by whipped cream. Very tasty. My cup of chilli tasted chef-made but didn't off a spivey kick to start my meal. We were seated about 8 P.M. Although there were no lines to get in, we were seated easily. Our server was rattled enough to omit silverware for my dessert. Prices seemed in line with the Atlanta area. If I were choosing a nearly end of the day place, I would try another place. If we go back I might get a burger, but probably wouldn't get their chili next time.

One of my favorite places to eat. The restaurant is upstairs overlooking the runways at Peachtree Dekalb airport. It's a favorite with kids and has a great deck. The decor is plain but the restaurant is run by two Greek brothers who are friendly and care about the food. The turkey club is made with fresh roasted turkey and is a signature dish. The burgers are also fresh And tasty ! On other occasions we have Enjoyed the fish and Greek dishes. Fun watching the action on the runways. A bonus is the playground outside my granddaughter likes .

We ate here on a beautiful Saturday. The deck of the restaurant over looks the airport. So you can watch the planes while you eat. My husband and I both had the burger with fries which were very good. Be warned many young children are usually eating here due to being able to watch the planes. For those with young children there is a playground right outside the restaurant. Note there is limited car parking in the area.

I have come here for decades and can always count on consistent quality. Very convenient for take out also.

Maybe the place is better when then trivia "leader" doesn't get so drunk on fireball shots that he can't figure out the final scores. Or maybe when you joke with him to ease the thick negativity of a ridiculous question that no one understood... Shall I continue?

The only attraction of this longstanding restaurant is the fact that it sits at the runway of an airport. So the view is interesting. The food is average, our service good. Price reasonable. Be aware that it is on the second floor and there is no elevator.

My family has eaten here twice now. Burgers are okay, good Greek salad & okay wings. Do NOT order the fried cod sandwich! It was triangle shaped "beer battered" cod that I am pretty sure must have come from Sam's frozen fish section. That was very disappointing. I knew it wouldn't exactly be fresh fish but it was fish stick-like & it was not enjoyable at all. Our server was extremely nice though. I think we will just bring our own food & sit at the picnic tables next to the runway in the future :)

Beer and Planes.

I had eaten here previously - I liked it back then. We were greeted when we arrived. They have an outdoor patio and where you can eat outside. This is at the PDK airport - it overlooks the runways. It is not real big - the staff (Allanah) is right on it. I had the hotdog with fries - my business associate had the chicken sandwich with fries. We both had tea. The food was great - they get very busy at lunchtime. This in itself is an adventure - nice to see the planes taking off. They have a lot on their menu. I will definitely be back here.

This place is OK. It is located at PDK (Peachtree-Dekalb Airport). I do not believe there is another restaurant in this General Aviation airport. So, for that reason, it stays in business. The people there are nice, the service fast and friendly, the menu tries to be eclectic, but mostly it is just so-so.

Ok, I know that you go to an airport restaurant to watch the taxiway and runway activity, not for the food, but Downwind Restaurant actually served food that was good. What a delightful surprise. Our server, Angelina, was helpful, polite, efficient, and truly seemed to enjoy her work, which made us comfortable, too. (She is an asset to the team). I prefer vegetarian fare, and vegan when I can, so I ordered the veggie burger (Boca) and fries. My boyfriend ordered one of the day's specials, which was a Greek lasagna with a Greek salad. He said that both were excellent. (He is a talented cook and knows good food.) I was very pleased with mine, too. This place is great for families with young children (or children of any age). There is outdoor seating that is open even when temperatures are in the low numbers. The price of beer is in the low numbers, too. (Many airport restaurants charge tourist prices but these were very fair prices.) I do recommend this restaurant for the food and the view!

The Downwind Restaurant is located at the DeKalb Peachtree Airport - 2nd busiest in the southeast. Great ambience - you can eat outside, on a covered deck or inside. The staff is very friendly - you have a great view of the runways. This is a busy airport. I had eaten here previously. They have been around for over 25 years. They open at 11 am for lunch, then change to dinner specials at 4:30 pm. This is an experience !!! The food is outstanding - nothing typical about this. The ownership is involved here on a daily basis. Friday night they offer live music, they also have a game night. I had a unsweet tea, as an appetizer I ordered the fried pickles, for my entrée I had the burger with swiss cheese on it with cole slaw. The pickles were just right with a dipping sauce, the burger was great - cooked just right, thick and juicy, they are also known for the fresh seafood entrees. Whether a local or a patron of the airport - this is the place to have a great meal at an reasonable price. The airport also offer a play ground for children to use. I have taken clients here many times - it is a big hit - keep up the great work !!! Hopefully they will be around another 25 years.

OK, so when you are told you are being taken to an airport to get lunch, sirens go off in your head saying "BAD IDEA!!", but I was happy to be mistaken. It's a small regional airport, not Hartsfield. We went on a Saturday and got to see the Goodyear blimp take off to go over to the Georgia Dome. Great place for little kids, they can easily be entertained by the planes since you can see the runway and all of the biplanes taking off and landing, and the food is pretty decent.

Very casual, very nice place to eat. We spent several hours eating & looking at some old pics brought by one of our party. Airplanes landed & took off almost all through our meal. Service was very friendly & competent, though a bit slow... but there are times when you don't mind a certain slowness in the service, and this is one of them. I had the Greek Lasagna which was delicious. Coffee was good too. Am sure we will be back here.

We've been coming here for several years. It's most fun when you can sit on the deck and watch the planes take off and land. Grandkids love it!! There is something on the menu for everyone and the wait staff are very good. They are noted for their huge burgers and I find their specials are consistently good. Try it - you'll like it.

Read about this on a blog about kid friendly restaurants and thought we would give it a try. We had lunch outside with our kids and loved watching the planes come and go. My husband enjoyed swatting the carpenter bee that felt like he was part of our party. We all had the burger and it was very very good. Our server was friendly, prompt and attentive. I would highly recommend going for a little different atmosphere with casual dining. Address on profile says 3915 Clairmont Road NE, however on there website it is 2000 Airport Road. You will need to turn off Clairmont onto Airport Rd. There are no signs about the restaurant but follow the signs around to the "playground". It is just to the left of the playground when you come down Airport Rd.

This place is a fun place for dining and enjoying good times. The food is excellent as is the service. The wait staff tend to remember just who you are and welcome you back like a long lost friend. They have entertainment on Friday nights but you don't have to sit in the bar area and get overwhelmed with the sound. There is a separated dining area as well as an outdoor patin which is excellent for those mild days. The locale is right next to an airport runway which provides an interesting distraction.

A large group of us had lunch here for the first time. I chose one of the weekly specials - a Cuban sandwich with cole slaw. The sandwich was quite good, the cole slaw was excellent! Service was also above reproach. As we left, we were thanked by other staff members for our business. Staff was cordial, food was very good. We will return.

Nice small second floor resturant in a historic building just off the runway. There are 3 seating areas. Inside in the bar area where they often have live music. In the middle in a glassed in patio were we really like to sit and watch the planes. Outside on a small patio. Look at the special board for many daily options of seafood, special plates and Greek specials. They also have a regular menu with typical fare on it like the burgers and sandwiches. Staff are all friendly and nice. Service is prompt. I had the grilled flounder and the wife had a chicken special. Loved the fresh mashed potatoes on mine with just the right amount of chunks from hand mashing. Key lime pie was a good finish.

What I love the most about this restaurant is definitely the location - it's right at the Peachtree DeKalb airport, close to Atlanta. You can sit on a terrace, watching the airport living its life, planes arriving & departing. The food is what I would call an "American standard" - great burgers & sandwiches - my most favorite here is Tuna melt with fries and Coleslaw.

We are at Downwind with my wife, son, mom and dad. I had the Greek salad with wild salmon and it was a big salad and very tasty. We also tried the hamburger and it was good. The food was very reasonably priced ($8-$14 per entree) and we loved watching the planes taxi, take-off and land while we ate. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and will be back.

The decor is nothing to get too excited about, but the view of the PDK runways is all the decor you need! You can sit out outside on the deck for a real close up (and loud) view of the airplanes, in a sunroom type enclosure which allows for a great view without all of the noise, or inside the bar area. Great views of incoming and outgoing planes, including vintage bi-planes. Their sandwiches are yummy! I always get the burger (best in Atlanta), but my husband and daughter have tried many different things and liked each and every one. They especially like the seafood. Great playground right outside the restaurant overlooking the runway!

Food is good. The real treat is to be situated practically on the runway of PDK airport. Enjoyable to watch the planes come and go. Karaoke night fun.

Lots of choices on the menu, but the burgers are the BEST! Wide selection of beers, as well - and the prices can't be beat! On a nice day, have your meal out on the deck overlooking the runway watching planes and helicopters come and go. One of the best hidden gem restaurants in Atlanta!

Good Hamburgers

We brought the kids here to see an old friend of mine, Howie the Great, perform magic on Tuesday nights -- great performer, go see him! Anyway, you wouldn't expect much from the restaurant going in, but the food was really, really good. We especially liked the burgers and the salmon. And, obviously, overlooking the runways at PDK, the place has a very unique and nice view.

When the weather is right, you can't beat having a sunset meal on the deck of this restaurant. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. It's a casual place with three serving areas. When you enter, there is a bar and sometimes musicians play in this section. Next is a section with windows overlooking the runways. And finally you have the option of diming on the deck. We love the feel of this open area in the metro area. We stick with the burgers, but the other offerings look fantastic, too. The staff is always friendly. You do need to check their hours, and I think I saw a sign that on Friday evening they do not allow children. Need to verify that. Other times we have seen children in the restaurant enjoying watching the planes.

A local friend took us to dinner here as an alternative to the more popular, trendy restaurants. It overlooks the runway and it was interesting to watch the planes take off. The atmosphere can be described as "a dive" but it was cute. The service was good and Hanna was very enthusiastic about menu choices. The downside was the food was very expensive and only so so. My meal was cold. For the four of us the bill was $75 without tip or alcohol. Way too pricey for what we got. Overall, I don't think I would return.

Went here for a workday lunch, it was a very good pick. When we walked in we were greeted by the owner, who has been here for over 30 years. Service was good, there was a large group of parents and children on the open deck and they seemed to take the lion's share of the staff's attention. I had the turkey club and it was as good as I have had. My guest had a burger, it was just a burger. The best part was the unobstructed view of the runways. As an aviation geek, it was a winner. My next trip to this area of Atlanta, I will come back.

Dropped by for a good burger, before I headed to the Chamblee High School, Class of '73 60th Birthday Party. Have been going here off and on for like forever -- 30 years. If the weather is nice, sit outside and enjoy the planes going by, while you eat your meal. A good menu, overall. Half pound burgers are legendary.

The food is good and there is a variety to choose from. This restaurant sits beside the runway and DeKalb-Peachtree Airport and it's fun to watch planes take off and land while you eat. Nice staff too. I have eaten there many times.

I have eaten here a couple times before, and the food appears to be consistent. They have an excellent hamburger, and they have a dinning area overlooking the runway of the Peachtree Dekalb airport. The building is pretty old, and it's not the fanciest of restaurants, but great to take the kids and grand kids to lunch and watch the planes. This is a fairly busy regional airport, and you will see everything from bi planes to Lear jets take off and land. There is also a playground across the street below the control tower.

Late afternoon into evening, the porch is a great place for an easy meal watching planes come and go. The play park downstairs can keep the kids occupied.
Downwind Restaurant at Atlanta Peechtree Dekalb Airport
Flew in here on business and this restaurant was recommended by some other pilots we met. We ended up going there with them to "talk shop" and eat. What we found there was some awesome food! Good menu variety to choose from and reasonable prices. Good staff and a great view of the aircraft parking ramp, taxiways, and runways! Great choice if you fly into Atlanta Peechtree Dekalb airport and need some good food!!
