Fun place with good food

Very nice inside with friendly/helpful staff, good food, reasonable prices, fun environment. I would recommend people to try it.

Beauxutiful Food and Decor .... Best Dim Sum in SF!

By SFHillBilly |

Exceptional dim sum... some of the best I have actually had and the prices seem fair. The decor is terrific except that we were stuck in the back past the bar and didn't seem to get all the food cart's heading our way. They have a make-shift reservation system so expect to wait even if you have a reservation. Ideally, ask to get a booth if possible (and get there early). Bottom line, a few quirks but probably the best Dim Sum in SF so worth the wait.

Beautiful Space-Dim Sum OK

By JJPolisky |

The Dragon Beaux is no hole-in-the-wall dim sum place. It has high ceilings and beautiful decorative finishes. It was jumping with customers when we were there last week-so it is clearly very popular, but the noise level wasn't too high-we were able to talk with our friends. The service was very strange. We had a very hard time communicating with our waitress. We explained that 2 in our party could not eat fish or shell fish and she kept recommending abalone, clams, squid etc. It may be that the seafood is the strong suite of the restaurant, because the dumplings and noodles that we had were not too interesting. They offer both traditional orders from the passing carts, and ordering from the menu. This was very confusing as well. We had a hard time telling if the food arriving was from our menu order or just from the passing staff. Our waitress disappeared for long stretches and we had to snag other staff for help with drinks and the bill. Overall a very mixed experience.

Solid Dim Sum Spot

By Abby |

This is one of our favorite dim sum spots in the city! The service is quick and the food is fresh. Would definitely recommend making a reservation, and even then you will likely have to wait a few minutes because it gets so busy. If you're vegetarian make sure you're only selecting items that say (vegetarian) or ask your server.

Tasty dim sum, pricey

By thecheechman |

THE GOOD: Tasty dim sum Varied menu THE NOT SO GOOD: Long lines Expensive Table sharing If you are going to arrive here for the first sitting when it opens at 1000 on a Sunday, get here early as there will be a long line and you might have to wait up to 45 minutes for a table to free up. You might also end up sharing a table. There is a nice selection of dim sum that you are a bit different to your bog standard Dim Sum restuarant. The Xiao Long Bao was good but not the best, pastry was a bit thicker that I prefer, but others might prefer this. The aubergine with prawn was also very tasty. The prices are at the top end of the spectrum. You are basically paying 2 dollars per dumpling. Whether this is just standard prices for San Francisco, as a visitor it is hard to say. To be perfectly honest, this was the first time I have left a dim sum restaurant still a little hungry and that was 100 dollars spent on food and two teas. Even with the prices, this place was very popular with the locals. Worth a try if you are in the area and wanting some dim sum.

Sunday brunch dim sum

By sunjoe075 |

12 of us were there on Sunday. Parking is free and plenty. The reservation worked fine. The place is crowded with a long wait list. The XLB is very special with the taste and presentation compare to Koi place in Daly City. We enjoyed every dish - The egg plant, the Okra, the roasted pig, roasted pork bun, turnip pie ( very special), fried noodle, shrimp dumpling....

Service is good, food meh.

By muhlberg |

We opted for some dim sum and regular menu items which were just ok. Nothing out of the ordinary. It could be that we didn’t order some of their more exotic dishes which seemed to be majority of the menu. The dim sum menu was also a little limiting, but what we did order was good. The daikon dish was super yummy and the spicy wonton wasn’t bad. Overall I probably would only return to try their hot pot as that menu had a better selection. Lastly, pricing was up there. Most dishes were around $20, even for simple veggie dishes. Not a great value.

Dim sum

By WC8882013 |

Been here several times. Always busy. Be prepared to wait. Very good dim sum. Great for families. Very authentic.

Pretty yummy!

By livelovex7 |

Wow, what a treat! Local friends suggested this place noting it's the best dim sum place in SF, so we had to go try and sure enough it was pretty delish. I would've given 5 stars but the parking is insane and we had reservations that were basically ignored and the place is to darn packed and tiny. Our friends knew the people there since they frequent a lot but they are pretty insistent that your entire party be present before you are seated. We all basically were except one guy who can't find a parking spot. He had to park a ways down. Thy were apologetic since we had reservations and a large table wasn't clearing but it was a slight chaos for our bigger group. Also this place isn't your ordinary dim sum place that we were used to. Not the authentic kind but a slighted fancier version even fusiony at times. They were misting some old style dim sum but what we got was all so delicious it didn't even matter. They had the best shuimai I had ever tasted! The chicken feet was fresh. The buns all were good. Everything was fresh. Yes they were on the pricier side but we ordered a ton. The porridge was good but they didn't have the 100yr old one. But we hot our fix in Vallejo the night before ;) Oh the chaung fun was good. The chewy sesame rice balls too. Everything was tasty. The place is just so chaotic n packed n hot inside lol. They don't even have room to push carts so their dimsum is check it off and bring to you type. I highly recommend this place if you want really good dimsum. It is clean unlike other places. Fancier and not the cheapest but definitely yummy. Just check out my pics - heavenly :p

Excellent Chinese food

By Vu N |

The first time I came here was for a friend’s birthday dinner. There’s a private parking lot that is usually full so be ready for that. But street parking is available all around the block. Walking in, I was surprised with the beautiful and modern interior. From the oriental accents and the subtle finishes meshing well to create an aesthetically pleasing environment to dine. The restaurant was really busy but we had reservations. The host quickly seated our party in the back room where it was more private but other patrons were also enjoying dinner. Our dishes came out pre-coursed. 7 courses to be exact. I felt like we were at a wedding but hey! It ain’t tricking if you got it! The first dish was a plethora of meats. From the barbecue pork, to roasted duck. It was a good cold appetizer. Be sure to ask for the XO sauce. It’s a great accoutrement to any of the dishes. One of the courses was the red shrimp. So sweet and juicy and was definitely a good hand food. The quail was roasted to a crispy yet delicate finish. The sea cucumber had a unique texture for those that dare trying new things. But the star of the show was the Chilean seabass. It was perfectly cooked, buttery, and melted with every bite in my mouth. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the overall experience that I came back the next week for dim sum. Dim sum is a whole different monster on a Sunday. The lines are wrapped around the building. You have to grab a number and wait to call Bingo! I came there Sunday and we ordered a variety of dishes. The shui mai was excellent. Everything tasted fresh. Soft and juicy textures. Even their chicken feet was on point! And I don’t like chicken feet!!! Again, I can rave on and on, but you actually have to go try it yourself. Thank me later!

Enjoyable dim sum but come early or expect a wait

By Been a few places |

Dragon Beaux offers a vast selection of dim sum in a modern and buzzy setting. It's popular so if you are coming for dim sum, either arrive early or be prepared to wait. We made the mistake of deciding to turn up on the stroke of opening to be faced with a huge queue and a 45-50 minute wait. That said, the food was worth the wait, and were comfortably sat in the reception area as we awaited our turn. The dim sum choice has most of the usual suspects and few you don't always find. Char siu bau were good, but not excellent. Xiao long bao good too - we went for the traditional pork and then the rainbow selection, of which some were great but others were weird - we should have stuck to pork. Things that we loved included prawns with aubergine/eggplant and the mushroom buns, things we don't usually find in the UK. Service was friendly, but not the most efficient. It took a long time to get our bill. But overall a very enjoyable experience.

Good dim sum

By SFOYYZ_Eric |

Came here for dim sum this weekend. It is definitely one of the better dim sum places in town. Be expect to wait for over 30 minutes for a table during the weekend. The food definitely did not disappoint - tasty and good quality. But you do pay for quality. We spent $40 each, but it worth every single penny.

Elevated dim sum lunch experience

By Erin L |

This was our first visit, and we'll be back. We started with the Five Guys Xio Long Bao, which was an assortment of 5 XLBs, each presented in its own spoon: Pork, Beet, Tumeric Crab, Squid Ink/Black Truffle and Spinach/Kale. Each dumpling was steamed on a small slice of carrot which kept it from sticking and added a touch of sweetness to the broth. Next was Crab Shiu Mai (good). Our favorite dish was the Garlic Steamed Lobster over Flat Rice Noodles, with garlic, ginger, scallions, soy and sesame oil. The flavors were in perfect balance and didn't overwhelm the lobster. Our one learning experience was dessert. While most other items were ordered via the menu, dessert was offered on serving trays. We were still eating our main dishes, so we turned these down, figuring we would have some afterward. Wrong! Get them while you can; they run out and that's it. Great place if you are in the area.

Great Dim Sum

By Rod N |

Great selection of dim sum. Everything came out quickly, fresh and tasty. I especially enjoyed the Japanese eggplant.

Ordinary dim sum in extraordinary setting

By alohatripper |

May 7 The hardest part of going out for meals in San Francisco is finding nearby parking. No wonder the BART and Muni are so popular. In the Richmond district on Geary near 21st Avenue, parking is again a challenge, but patience wins out as we find a just vacanted space. The Dragon Beaux (not sure the meaning) is new and looks luxurious for a dim sum palace. It is neither ostentatious nor typically Chinese. It is very tastefully decorated. The average Chinese customer doesn't really care. Maybe the owner hopes to attract more ethnically diverse patrons. The food is attractive but tastes no different than other similarly-priced dim sum restos. We enjoyed sitting in an unusually attractive Chinese restaurant.

Good food, unusual (for Dim Sum) service

By rdchance |

We were hoping for traditional Dim Sum, where you select your food from carts circulating through the room. Instead, here you order from a menu. That aside, the food was delicious and the prices good.

Fancy dim sum

By Acidov |

Don't let the French style name fool you. Although queues can be really long, I certainly liked that place better than the others in the area. It has fancy but maintained in oriental style interior with plenty of seating options. We ordered the standard dim sum items and everything tasted excellent. Egg custard tarts were delicious with flaky pastry and buttery flavor. Presentation was great too (including colorful Five Guys Xiao Long Bao). All dumplings came hot, filled with delicious broth. The service was super efficient and smooth. Overall, high quality dim sum in a pleasant atmosphere.

Expected more from this restaurant

By BayAreaTraveler6338 |

Since Dragon Beaux is owned by the same people as the famed Koi Palace in Daly City, I expected more from them after it's been opened for a little over a month. We went there for dim sum on a weekend and the line was outside the door. Décor is pretty modern with plenty of tables for small and large groups. There's also a small private room near where the restroom hallway is located. I'm not sure if what they passed out as their menu was their full menu but it seemed very limited. Some of the more interesting dim sum we ordered was the abalone tart and the char siu bao, which was shaped like a muffin. Their cheong fun was plain without any sort of filling such as shrimp or BBQ pork - unusual unless they forgot to add the ingredients to it? Next, we ordered the beef chow fun and the Spanish rice. The chow fun came out relatively quick and the waiter went around the table and actually served us but somehow he forgot to serve one person (ME) and I'm the one that ordered it. By then, the plate was empty. Next up was the Spanish rice. One has to wonder why they would have something like this on their menu? Nothing unique about it. When they brought out the rice, they should have brought bowls with them to serve. Shouldn't this be normal procedure? After a month of business, all the kinks should have been worked out. At least, the waiters kept our tea kettle full at all times. Prices were a bit higher than I expected since the quality of the food was just average. One bad thing about this restaurant is the lack of a parking lot. Sure, there is a small one next door (you still need to pay) to it but basically it's all side street parking and good luck on finding parking on a Sunday.

Family lunch

By 659waikitc |

On 9/30 we had a family gathering in these place . Luckily we had appointment , there was a long line queued up! The decoration is quite new style mixing Chinese n Western. Pleasant! The standard of the dim sum was good except the fried noodle was a little bit dry. The price was reasonable! Recommend for people want a good standard Cantonese food !

Just above average for launch, very good for dinner

By vailwood |

Local clientele, away from tourism areas, therefore better than most Chinese food places, just above average. Some originality in certain dishes for dim sum, for launch, but dinners are more elaborate and choice are better. Mustard and hot sauce needs improvement. White tea with meal is excellent, other drinks available as well. Try the goose liver fride rice!

Major disappointment

By UnrepentantFoodie |

1) The food. Flavors seemed off, a few items were fishy, and all but one of the dumplings we ordered were seriously oversteamed--the doughs were all wet and glue-y. Hard to pick up with chop sticks, and unpleasant to eat. 2) The room. This restaurant has two rooms, one that you're in essentially after walking in the front door and another next to it. The "next to it" room gets no air flow, and at peak meal time on a cool, foggy day we sweated through our meal. A very disappointing experience.

Pleasantly surprised

By Shirley N |

Beautiful restaurant with excellent dim sum. Each dish came to the table fresh and well presented. I loved the sil Lum bao which was served in individual spoons. Be careful when eating these delicate dumplings because they are very hot and filled with a light soup. So yummy! The BBQ pork buns (3) were my favorite...delicate and so tasty. I liked them so much, I had to order another serving. They come small, unlike the larger buns from most dim sum houses. I also found then service to be friendly and responsive. This restaurant is on the more expensive side but lunch here was a pleasant experience. I will definitely visit again.

Another Dim Sum restaurant!

By upstairsforthinking |

You'd think that the last new restaurant the Richmond area needs is another Dim Sum/Cantonese. However, I was most impressed with this new addition. High quality Dim Sum, attentive service and great ambience. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday lunchtime. This speaks volumes. A must try , and actually worth traveling some distance if you're don't reside in this neighborhood of the city. Note; there are queues outside on weekend mornings/lunchtimes

Excellent Chinese cuisine in San Francisco

By luke74 |

Excellent Chinese cuisine in San Francisco, we tried many dishes and they were all delicious. The service was also excellent and very friendly. A must try for those who love Chinese cuisine.

Really really really good!

By Michael C |

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant after touring the golden gate bridge area. My family loves chinese food and are quite picky about it. The food here is incredible. We had a couple of different dim sum items and we ordered Peking duck. Just as good as the Peking duck house in New York if not better. If I lived in San Francisco, I'd eat here every night.

The wait times are beyond terrible

By 90s_Corvette |

The food is good at Dragon Beaux, but the wait times are so, so, so painful that it is a significant deterrent to going here for dim sum. The waiting area is very small, so most people are forced to stand out on the street corner. This is not great if you have aging parents or people who are not able-bodied in your group. Parking is also a bit of a nightmare here. There is basically no street parking unless you have miraculous timing--but there is a small paid parking lot on the same block---however, it doesn't hold more than a few cars. If you can Uber here....do it. We arrived at 11:45pm and werent seated until a full hour later. That would have been too much for my parents to wait out in the cold on the sidewalk---so I left them in the car, and stood in line by myself. If you do the same, just be sure you get your guests to the front door about 5 minutes before you think they'll call your name, because they won't seat incomplete parties. We've also had hotpot dinner here, which was quite good. There is no wait time for dinner since they accept reservations, thankfully. Frankly, if you only have the energy to do one thing, I would choose the hotpot, because it isn't "whitewashed" and is closer to what we'd eat in Hong Kong or China.

Outstanding Food, Decor & Service

By tecfeesh |

The ambiance was outstanding. Decors felt authentic and service too. Loved the Peking Duck. Will definitely be back here fore more.

Pricey but worthy

By Bonnie W |

We went there by mistake. Once we set our feet in, we decided to try regardless the price. It didn’t disappoint us. From the environment, the decorations, the cleanness, the service, to the selection of dishes, variety of food items, the taste and the freshness of food, it was excellent. Parking was available right in front of the restaurant. It would be a must visit if we go to San Francisco again.

Hot Pot menu Not Good for large parties

By Flounder M |

We were a party of over 40 people – 2 tables and small tables placed together to create one long dining area. We circled everything on the hot pot menu. For 4 of us, we did not receive MANY of the items circled. When food items ordered arrived, they were served on the far ends of the table. The middle portion was left with waiting for food to be delivered or we receive the left overs from the opposite ends of the table. After repeated requests to many bus boys/servers, ordering food items, we still were NOT delivered any food for close to an hour. When we were able to flag down a Supervisor/Manager and complained we had not receive our food for over an hour, he took our order, gave us the tickets. When the food was delivered, once again, the ends of the tables receive our orders. So we complained a 2nd time and shortly thereafter, finally received the food we ordered. So fellow diners – ok to come here if you are a party of 10 or less. Horrible service for large parties. Was not worth the $35 per person – many of us felt cheated for the price. I would like to give this restaurant another try to see if the service is better when ordering from just the lunch/dinner menu.

Good Dim Sum, Horrible Service

By Betty123452013 |

This is a very busy dim sum restaurant and avoid this for weekends or holidays as the wait could be tremendous. They do not accept reservations for small table at lunch. We have been coming for their special dim sum dishes and nice decor in the booth area and recommend many of our friends and family. Yesterday, I brought my mom ( 80+ lady) who got seated to a six people table sharing with another party at a corner, while I was parking. When I came in, I asked the lady at the front to move us to another table so we do not have to share, when it becomes available. We would understand if they do not want to move us as they are always busy. What's dramatic was a man in black suit ( manager/ boss?) came over and bluntly said "Do not switch table, this is how we manage!" He repeated until I had to stop him by saying " OK and I got it". One star is for their special dim sum plates. Otherwise, service is compromising, management absolutely rude, prices are five star high, ambiance is non existent ( loud and busy), difficulty in finding parking does not help either! This review is for lunch time.

Enjoyable Second Visit to This Restaurant

By Frank Sories |

My spouse and I were glad to once again dine indoors. The decor here contributes to a very pleasant, China-esque experience. All COVID-19 precautions appeared to be taken. The ordering method has been described by me previously as well as by other reviewers, so I need not describe it in detail. Serving from carts would not seem to be appropriate in the current environment, so the kitchen direct to table serving format they've always used seems particularly fitting now. The food was piping hot and very tasty! Their roast duck is a standout dish, but all dim sum plates were of equally high quality and deliciousness, with the one exception being the chili oil wonton. They weren't bad, but there was a spice of some sort used that we didn't particularly like. Service was efficient and fairly friendly. Overall, it was a great meal, and, if you're looking for a better quality dim sum than is found at the more typical dim sum palace (priced accordingly), we would recommend a visit.

3.5 starts - Nice decor, food was ok and pricey

By Lisado976 |

Came here on a Friday evening to celebrate early mother's day. We made reservations, so we were seated right away. We had the all the you eat hot pot. The meats and vegetables were fresh, but was disappointed as there was no fresh fish filet and the soup base was ok. We had the miso and tom yum soup base. The Miso was fine, but the tom yum was not tasty at all.

Exceptional

By Iamfeffe |

We were looking for a typical Chinese restaurant and I can say we found it! In this area there are so many and all always full. We ate divinely from various steamed dumplings, to meat and their spaghetti. Nothing left on my stomach, exceptional

Great dim sum, tasty food

By Tony B |

Surrounded by Chinese people in. Restaurant is usually a good sign and so it was here. Helpful staff, great food of high quality, we enjoyed the experience enough to recommend it. A little out of town in Richmond but the Uber only cost $3...

You can skip this place

By BD3856 |

There was a wait to get inside. Some grumpy man handed us a menu and a pencil. We had no idea what to do next. At least he didn't hand us an apron and a spatula. Once seated, again, we had no idea what to do next. Waiters were coming and going all about, but we didn't know why. This is a restaurant where the customer has to know much more about their routine and how to order food. No one even tries to explain what the heck is going on. Once we figured that out, we were still not impressed. The food was OK. Very few vegetarian choices.

Do I recommend this place for their hotpot? Not wholeheartedly

By IlanB |

Disclosure - We went here for the hotpot experience, and we never got to taste the dim sums. This review is only about the hotpot menu. So, now that that's out of the system - the tl;dr - It's fine, ingredients are good, the broth(s) are uninspiring, service is good, and the egg yolk lava buns are amazing. I've been to several hotpot spots (ha!), and I must admit, this one is just not that special. We were four hungry people, and we decided against the "all you can eat" option which paid off - We ate a lot, and it was still cheaper than all you can eat pricing. The meat was good, and the prawns were fresh; however, I think the weakest point is the broth. We went for the chicken and beef, and I needed a lot of garlic, soy, and the hot spice to make it work for me. Maybe that's their idea to allow you to create your own experience, but that is very different from my other hotpot visits. Do I recommend this place for their hotpot? Not wholeheartedly. Not too expansive, but also not as good as other hotpot places. The best part - the egg yolk lava buns. If you are here, you have to try them. Next time, we should definitely try their dim sums!

Make a reservation or you will wait, wait, wait

By TravelingAuntMarian |

We had a reservation and happy we had done so. It was a cold rainy night and there is not much room to wait. But do wait, because the food and service is outstanding. If you want the duck go early, because they were out of it by 7:30 pm. My niece ordered several things for the three of us to share, so I can't really tell you what all we ate. It was all delicious. With such a busy restaurant the service and staff managed everything well. They were polite, attentive, and created a wonderful evening.

A Michellin recommended restaurant that won't blow the bankbook

By M W |

Wanted to try this Michellin recommended restaurant. This is probably one of the best Chinese dim sum place in the bay area. The food is very innovative. The service is impeccable. The place is clean and modern and well runned. However, the wait can be very long. Definitely go early if u can so that u can drop off people in your party to grab a number for a table and u can look for those selected few parking spaces.

delicious dim sum! absolutely worth to try!

By 葉 伊 |

excellent dim sum, my daughter and I came from Taiwan, we arrived early there so we didn't get to wait, when we left there were long line already. the staff are busy, but you get what you want, just tell them.

When you want dumplings, hot pots and more

By bfindysz |

In the mood for some upscale authentic Chinese food we stopped in to see if we could get a seat on a Saturday at lunchtime. While waiting in line we were given a menu and asked to choose our plates, which we did. After a minimum wait we were comfortably seated. Despite the crowds, it felt intimate. Food was phenomenal. Service impeccable. Ambience pleasant despite some over the top decor. Not a China buffet.

Weekday dim sum on vacation

By Josh Vaillancourt |

Visiting SF for a few days, wanted to try dim sum for the first time with family, sought out a place outside of Chinatown and found Dragon Beaux online. Went after the Academy of Sciences, a short bus ride away. Beautiful inside, friendly staff. We arrived around 1:15-1:30 I think (no line/wait though), and after ordering (via writing #s on the menu) we were informed a few things we had order they were out of because "dim sum was ending," no big deal. The food was all good, but I wasn't blown out of the water as I had hoped I'd be. Squid ink roll, pea shoot dumpling, crispy milk roll, glutinous pillow, egg yolk lava bao, and a crepe roll were all favorites and delicious, as was a fish congee. Pork bao was pretty light on filling (mostly just bread), soy flavored chicken was pretty hard to eat (it was a bone-in breast with wing I think, cooked whole then cut into pieces, so there were pieces of bone attached to each bite-size chunk), and the taro roll was kind of greasy.

Amazing dim sum snout 20 minutes away from Fisherman’s Wharf.

By JulesJ12345 |

We were staying near Fisherman’s Wharf and wanted dim sum. This place was recommended and we were told this is where the locals go. So we had to check it out even though it was a 20 minute drive from our hotel. Saturday was busy! But we only waited 20 minutes and it was worth it. DEE-LIC-IOUS!! we especially loved the soup dumplings and steamed BBQ pork buns. The honey chicken wings were sweet and meaty too. This is definitely the place to come for dm sum.

Great dumplings!!!

By Veronica F |

This place is fun, the food is great, Chris the host was so kind to fit us last minute, we also had some yam purple cupcakes, they were amazing. Price is reasonable. We would love to come back soon!!!

Lovely.

Delicious, relaxed, polished staff and decor. Park on Clement during the week and walk one block. Very family friendly yet elegant. Yum!

Fancy but just ok

By winsir |

This restaurant has very nice décor. with many dim sum dishes has the fancy name . but the dim sum only taste ok and expensive. In San Francisco , you do have a better choice.

Culinary adventures

Great Cantonese food in Geary

By benjieguev |

The restaurant greets you with a very busy atmosphere which for us Asians adds to the experience. Food arrived very quicly but since we were two table, a couple of our orders never made it to our table. These were removed however from our bill. Just make sure they get all your orders. But the quality of the dishes were above averagem certainly very authentic Cantonese cuisine. Our frequent trips to Hongkong have given us the knowledge of being able to compare various dishes from various Cantonese restaurants. Good job Dragon Beaux.

Dragon Beaux is Beyond Expectations

By motile |

I visited this restaurant with a group of 9 women who were celebrating a birthday. I called in advance to make a reservation and was told that when most of our party was present, we would get the first available table. I was a little worried because parking is terrible in the neighborhood and we were all traveling in from the burbs. Not only that, it was 11:30 AM on a rainy Saturday. The good news is that Dragon Beaux was beyond expectations. We waited only about five minutes and were led to a table where our patient waiter answered questions and suggested quantities of our selections. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We had relaxed, helpful service with a smile in spite of the fact that the restaurant was packed and noisy. One problem is that prices are hard to find on the menu and while we steered clear of the normally very expensive dishes like crab and duck, we were surprised to find that the Chinese broccoli with garlic that we ordered was $16.95. The price seemed out of line with other dishes. We ended up with a fantastic tasty lunch for about $25 per person. We will be back to try more dishes. Well done Dragon Beaux!

Upscale and Unique Dim Sum

By BCofOC |

Unusual and unique dim sum dishes not found elsewhere. Upscale comtemporary setting. Expect to wait. It's a very popular place for locals. There are two rooms that handle about 200 people. They have the usual dim sum and noodle dishes that you can get elsewhere but I recommend trying something new and different. We were there for lunch. Above average prices. Service is average.

what a delightful experience

By karen s |

The staff is very kind and sincere. They helped describe some of the food we were curious about. I can't wait to go back after having a great eating experience.

Fancy but traditional Dim Sum

By Phil Y |

Recommended by the local, we arrived 15 minutes before it opens. There was already a line outside the entrance. The inside has a huge dining hall that can accommodate maybe 100 diners. Opposite to the old style dragon & phoenix decors, they have contemporary lighting and neoclassical seatings. They even have a digital display of waiting time. So modern. Similar innovation materialized with the dim sum. Multi-color soup dumplings (小笼包)and Bitter Melon Chicken Rice Crepe (凉瓜鸡丝肠粉). The service was adequate. The good thing is they don't push you to buy, quite different from other Dim sum places. We think we will go back again and try their dinner menu in the future.

Organized chaos...but delicious

By oregonpoppa |

First of all, I regret the trend away from the hustle and bustle of roaming carts weaving their ways around tables, loaded with surprises. Such restaurants are disappearing, unfortunately. I laughed when I saw the review complaining about women with carts hustling patrons, trying to run up the cost. All you have to do is say yes or no to the selections. I only remember one cart coming by our table of 12. Now, you order from a menu...which is OK if you know what you want. We had a family member who did the ordering for us and, amazingly, the manager came by to say we had ordered "too much!" When and where does that ever happen?!? It was a special family event and I wasn't the one footing the bill, so I don't know what the total was...but we had a ton of dishes. I didn't hear any complaints and by the end, just all of the plates were pretty clean...so, that tells you everything must have been pretty good. We had a reservation, which was a good thing on a Sunday morning as the Chinese new year began. Lots of people waiting outside when we arrived for our 11 a.m. reservation (and when we left, happily stuffed, later). As always, there were dishes that were new to a few of us (and all new to a couple of us). The restaurant was packed, the air loaded with the chatter of both patrons and staff. It was exactly what I expected, perhaps a bit more decorative than some dim sum places I've been to. I found most of the negative reviews below to be from those unfamiliar with the usual ambiance of such restaurants. I find it to be a bit intimidating to order sometimes, but I love the energy and ultimately to food itself.

Dinning experience

By Fabian M |

My son lived in Hong Kong for a few years and wished to have dim sum in San Francisco. We went without making a reservation for dinner (thinking we would avoid the lines we had seen at lunchtime). We were right, less people but still almost full at night. We ordered dim sum and had a real feast! Food is excellent, price is reasonable and clients are mostly oriental. Very authentic dinner experience. Loved it! The only thing that happened to us is that I forgot to leave a tip and one of the staff members came after me requesting a tip. Although the tip was well deserved I thought the attitude was not the one you would expect! Bad taste on their part. I am rating this place as very good as opposed to excellent because of this incident that reflects poorly on the restaurant. The decor is simple and unasumming. Apart from that I highly recommend the place and have gone back ever since.

Very creative dim sum

By UnrepentantFoodie |

We ate here a year and some ago and were disappointed, so I owe it to this restaurant to come back and post a good review of the meal we recently had here. Everything we had was good (about five dishes shared by four diners) but we especially recommend the pea shoot dumplings and the abalone/chicken sticky rice in lotus wrap. Both stand out as very elevated and creative versions of typical dim sum items. In the "really out there" column was a cold dish of pork belly roll with cucumber, shredded pork, black garlic and a peanut sauce. The restaurant is very popular. You might have to wait for a table.

Hot pot on a cold night

By EandVic Y |

First time VISIT as suggested by Check please ( Bay Area) ... Parent resturant Koi place has created a interesting FUSION ASIAN style menu. A LITTLE pricey as the go it yourself HOT Pot serving are NOT large wIth a la cart ... All you can eat @ $32 will STUFF most people.

Not a Fan

By Jack P |

We went here after seeing the restaurant featured on Bay area Check Please. We were not at all as excited as the critics from the show. The place is huge and very popular. To us it felt like walking into a corporate chain restaurant. The food was good, but we never had a “this is awesome” moment. We found the menu very hard to navigate. The wait staff will help you but they may be hard to understand. Like going for sushi or small plates type of place, this place can add up fast. If we want any form of Asian, Japanese, Chinese etc., we will go to a small more authentic place. Clearly this place is popular, we just didn’t see why. Just not for us.

Wonderful flavors and textures

By chucktodd75 |

There were four of us who shared the unusual dishes beautifully presented. The wait staff was very attentive and understanding. Yes, it's popular; a small crowd was wating to get seats . . . we were glad we had called ahead for a reservation.

Expensive terrible meal

By Gene G |

the chinese Woman i was with may have just ordered the wrong things,, i thought the place was suppose to be Dim Sum, like Tong Kiang, well it was dinner time so it was Hot pot, or ? the Winter Melon soup was the worst most boring expensive soup the spicy egg plant was good and it helped us eat the soup but the Duck , not good for me, basically a terrible meal that cost $75 with out drinks, i thought bad experience

Best Dim Sum place in the Bay Area

By anthonyklcheung |

I was heading for a French brunch, however, my wife dragged me to this Chinese restaurant for dim sum. We went from South Bay and even though Google map said that the drive would take about 45 minutes, it turned out to be an hour and 15 minutes because of traffic at different areas that we drove through. The restaurant is at the Richmond area and finding a parking space is tough. Even though there is a public parking next to the restaurant, well, it has only about 14 parking spaces. It was full when we arrived. It took me quite a while to find a space. I can tell you though, the food in the restaurant worth all the troubles. We have been to all the good dim sum places in the Bay Area: Koi Palace, Yang Shing, May Flower, etc. This place is a notch above all others. Even though it is more expensive, I think you get what you pay for. The dim sum are fresh and it is very evident that the chef put extra efforts in making them. Several dishes that we ordered were exceptional and they are Crab Claw Blossom, Steamed Giant Clam, and Dried seafood dumpling soup. The shrimp paste enclosing the Crab Claw was tender yet crisp. The crust was thin and done just right without being hard. The crab meat was fresh and I don’t think they were from frozen crab claws. The Dried seafood dumpling soup base was using the “Buddhist jumps over the Fence” soup. The soup tasted great, lightly seasoned such that I could taste all the natural flavors of the ingredients: Chinese Mushroom meat was thick and juicy, Fish gas bladder was fatten and filling, and the abalone had decent size and chewy, however, this could be the single item I could nitpick on. There is not much flavor from the abalone. I’m so glad that I listened to my wife and came to this restaurant. I strongly recommend this place for dim sum. Oh, by the way, I found that the services you get in this restaurant is superior also.

Offers mainly steamboat

By E5711HHandyt |

This place offers mainly steamboat although they do have other types of dishes. Majority of their staff service is good, though not all.. overall it’s still a good experience to dine in with..

Dim-suns with a difference

By Sandip G |

Stylish Chinese Restaurant for Dim-sums and Hot Pots even if slightly over-priced. Go for the day’s specials rather than the regular menu (which are quite standard stuff) that have quite a few unusual entrées. The Chilli Oil was disappointing. The Spring Rolls didn’t seem fresh (were probably pre-made). My personal favourite the fried frog in soy sauce.

Great dim sum

By John G |

Very crowded on a Sunday morning but they seated our group of eight without much muss and fuss. Great service and excellent food.

Never Again

By Jose a V |

The worse ever experience in my life. I am 63. Nothing was good, the potstickers 🥟 were the worse ever. The beef lo mein was soooo sooo Bad.. I will never return to this place at 5700 Geary Blvd in San Francisco.

Up scale dim sum, very good but...

By ninersam |

Decor unlike any other din sum restaurant, more French than Chinese. Best dishes were 5 Guys bao, Duck burrito, Taro Bao, Sui Mai. Presentation was very good, overall food very tasty but not better than Tong Kiang across the street. Recommend trying at least once.

Best Dim Sum in SF 2015

By sfeats |

Finally we have an excellent dim sum restaurant west of Van Ness. It is not just delicious, it is also professionally managed and serving a creative varieties of dim sum. Best try on weekdays because it is not fun to be queuing in the cold and rain.

Delicious

By NapaCasual |

A wonderful Chinese New Year spent with family. Consistently amazing food - we ordered Peking duck, soup dumplings, har gow, squab, chive rice flour dumplings, lobster noodles, chive cakes. The squab was perfectly cooked and succulent, as was the duck. It's so easy for restaurants to overcook both and then the skin solidifies to the meat and it's crunchy and not amazing. But Dragon Beaux does duck and squab perfectly.

Great Dim Sum

By MJSKS |

Dim Sum lunch in Richmond area - after a nice walk around GG Park. We tried 7-9 different dim sum dumpling dishes -- and one noodle dish (short rib) -- the dim sum steamed and fried were well done, light and delicious. the Short rib dish lacked beef - wouldn't get that again. Will definitely return -- recommend to the newbie or experienced dim sum eater!

Impressive

By risarockett |

This place is authentic. It was everything I expected and more. Such a great experience. The food, the people, the atmosphere were outstanding.

Great Dim Sum

By WC8882013 |

Rest opened by same owners as Koi Palace which we frequent a lot when in SF. Had party of 10 which is easier to get a table than for 2-4 people. Long lines to get in. Food was excellent - even my wife enjoyed and she is quite critical. We are Chinese family from NYC and have had best dim sum in NYC, HK, London - and we all enjoyed it here!

Fancy food but ok taste

By winsir |

If u want to pay a lot of money and the food looks fancy and the restaurant has good fancy decor plus high price. This is the right place

An Excellent choice for dim sum

By Deborah C |

We decided to go there for a Xmas day dinner and we weren't disappointed. We had Ma Po tofu, stir fried long green beans, Five Guy bao, beef with asparagus, gold and silver fried rice. Finished off with mango pudding and egg custard bao for dessert. There is a line to get a table, but they seem to have crowd management under control. We can't wait to go there again.

Good Dim Sum But A Bit Pricey

By chanyu1 |

This dim sum restaurant is the newest addition to the San Francisco dim sum scene located in the Richmond District on Geary Blvd. They serve a good variety of dim sum that taste very good. Their steamed shrimp dumpling (Ha Gow) is actually one of the better ones in The City but also at the higher end, price wise, at $6 per order. The decor is somewhat unusual for a Chinese dim sum house but unfortunately, the noise level is the same as other noisy dim sum restaurants. Like all popular dim sum places, go early or prepare for a long wait to get a table. ..

Good food but with interesting service and higher prices.

By Chris F |

We went to Dragon Beaux for a dim sum lunch. I had only been here one time a long time ago and could not remember much about it. Most times, especially on weekends, there are people waiting in line out the door with wait times well over half an hour. We only had to wait about 5 minutes today, so not too bad. We were seated in the rear dining area and ordered 6 dim sum dishes and 1 large Hong Kong style crispy noodle dish. The food was very good and not overly salty. Everything we ordered was very fresh and tasty. Service was a little interesting in that when you check in, they give you their dim sum menu and a pencil. While you are waiting for your table you select the dishes on the menu by filling in the blank next to the item you want with a number indicating how many of that item you want. When you get to your table, someone takes your menu and then returns with a printout of your items. As the items are prepared, they are brought to your table and checked off on the printout of your items. We were not greeted once by a waiter. We needed more napkins and some soy sauce. The menu items are on the higher side (pricy) too. The tables are spaced very close as well, so conversations could easily be heard from / to your neighbors. Interesting place!

Worth the Wait For Great Dim Sum

By OttoAdventurer |

Absolutely the best dim sum I’ve had for a long long time. Get there before it opens to avoid the wait for a table. Don’t pass on the Five Guys Xiao Long Bao, a selection of five fantastic soup dumplings.

Dim sum on the 4th of July!

By luv4phood |

Surprisingly, it is really difficult to find many restaurants open on the 4th of July. So, we ended up at Dragon Beaux because it was one of the few places open. We ordered dumplings, bao, noodles, tea and sweets. The service was efficient and the dishes were fresh and delicious.

Need to do better, hot pot is expensive

By Alohaoe808 |

Great for large parties, it is busy, very noisy at times, and although a large space, you feel cramped in. You can choose to do dim sum or hot pot. No one really explained that we would need to get a pen and fill out the menu instead of them coming to take your order, so it took us a while to get going, because they also didn’t come around to check on us initially and ignored my plea to do 3 hot pots for 8 people. They expect 4 people to cook in one pot which I have never witnessed, especially since we were all different families eating together. I was also hesitant getting hot pot, since we are picky and I don’t usually like Chinese hot pot, but was pleasantly surprised that they had several choices for broths, tons of meat options, and hearty servings of vegetables. The one thing that was very stingy and served in an unreal small portion was the ponzu as I love to dip my meat in ponzu and 2 orders of it barely could cover one piece of meat. Another thing was we ordered cake noodle and waited for it through our entire hot pot meal. I kept asking for it and was told it was coming, till i finally asked them to cancel it and miraculously a second later, it came out and they told me to enjoy. Despite that, it is a great mix of food, since you can order cake noodles, dim sum, and hot pot all together, so the kids and adults had a ton of choices and were full and happy. This is a must for large parties, since they hustle and really have it down to serve large parties, however they are definitely not anticipating your needs, trying to be very service oriented.

nose-to-tail hotpot

By CAfruitfly |

Quite the hotpot experience this was! With an extensive menu and customized tables, our party enjoyed a memorable dinner. Highlights were the grass-fed lamb, cow tongue, tendons, and cuttlefish paste. The foie gras and truffle fried rice was decadent, and worth a return visit. Service was attentive. Parking in the neighborhood was challenging.

Excellent Dim Sum - Good value too!

By PnB B |

Fun atmosphere, great service and presentation. Certainly not downtown prices which makes it all the better!

Best Dim Sum

By Yvonne Chang |

Dragon Beaux serves one of the best dim sum I have had. The menu is extensive but pricey. My only complaint is that the restaurant does not have a parking lot. It is worth the cost and the inconvenience of having to look for street parking.

Can Do Better on the Hot Pot

By Linda |

I came here after watching Check Please on PBS. This restaurant serves 3 different types of food: Dim Sum for lunch, and for dinner they have a regular dinner menu and a Hot Pot menu. We ordered the $298 8-10 Whole Winter Melon Hot Pot Set for our party of 10 (mostly seniors). The set comes with 2 pots of broths: Whole Winter Melon Chicken Broth, and 1 Yin-Yan Combo broth. When I asked about the broth, the server kept trying to persuade me to order an extra winter melon. I ended up keeping the menu the way it was, and the two pots of broth was just right. When the Winter Melon arrived, it was cold and uncooked, so they had to turn on the burner to cook it. Luckily, while waiting for the melon, they served the first 3 dishes: soup, roasted squab, and fried rice. These dishes were up to standard so we were happy. However when they brought in the cold meat, they didn’t do a very good job in explaining how to best cook the meat at this table. We all picked our own meat and put it in the strainer and cooked it in the hot pot, so it was a bit of getting into one another’s way. Later I asked the server if we did the right thing. She said the best way would be to pour the entire dish into the pot, and then everybody would share the cooked meat. That would have made a difference if she had told us ahead of time. I think there’s a learning curve to navigating their menu and learning how to cook the meat. The next time around I hope to be able to enjoy the meal better.

Terrific Dim Sum

By ed o |

We were able to find parking and the first time we went, it was 1:30 p.m. and the second was shortly after noon. We found the waiters to be extremely good at recommending based on description or a substitution if they ran out of an item (pork ribs) and very patient at the same time including the busy second time were were there and the place was packed and noisy. We had soup dumplings (soup inside dumpling very tasty and made excellent with the vinegar and chili sauce served as condiments), the divine barbeque pork slices served over soy beans (I think), pea shoot dumpling, sticky rice in lotus leaf, shrimp rice crepe roll, pot stickers that were very soft except the crispy parts where they were pan fried. We chatted with a woman while waiting and she was seated next to us and recommended the abalone tart that we will get next time. As is typical, prices of dim sum vary with cost of ingredients. The piece de resistance was the steamed pork bao. This is a little pillow of steamed yeast dough with barbecue pork inside and it is so light and delightful. We also enjoyed a very aromatic jasmine tea and also the puerh. It can be very busy in the neighborhood for parking and getting in, so try it during an off hour for better luck. Every dish was piping hot, the decor is very attractive (and the front room is much cooler in temperature than the interior room) and the place is very clean. Lots of waiters buzzing around and women enticing you with trays of dim sum (we stuck to the menu). It was a really nice dining experience. And the restaurant is evidently owned by the owners of Koi Palace in Daly City. (I prefer Dragon Beaux as Koi Palace has gotten too difficult to find parking and the wait is too long). It is always a fun experience to eat dim sum....try it!

Awesome Dim Sum!

By Mark L |

I went with my family from NY and my uncle, who lives in SF. He said this is one of his favorite places so we went with him. Can't tell you how great it was! He kept ordering stuff that they brought out to the Lazy Susan on the table, it was all different kinds of Dim Sum, I don't even know what half the stuff was, but one thing was better than the next! I didn't pay so I can't give a full assessment of the cost, but I think it's pretty reasonable, and under any circumstances was well worth it. A must visit!

Did not measure up to the high accolades from SF Chronicle

By Marjorie Y |

The SF Chronicle listed Dragon Beaux as an outstanding restaurant with an innovative spirit. The one dumpling, the squid ink skin filled with black truffle, was innovative and delicious. Although like all of the steamed dumplings, it was overcooked. We tried the jumbo scallop shiu mai and it had a very thin slice of scallop on top of the dumpling filled with the usual chopped up shrimp and other ingredients. The noise in the restaurant is off the charts. And, of course, a wait of more than an hour did not add to the experience. Back to our favorite which is Ton Kiang across the street.

Give it a try - There are a lot of things to like about Dragon Beaux

By Jonathan and Barbara Forever |

If you are looking for an inexpensive place to have a dim sum lunch, this is not the place. Not that the prices are sky high, but you can tell you are paying the decor as well as the elevated cuisine. That being said, I recommend this place. Really because they offer sound classic dim sum as well as new style dim sum. you cant go wrong with their har gow, siu mai, hom sui gok, fun Gor, or their stick rice. I was even surprised at how good their custard tarts were. Usually, Chinese restaurants serve you this yolky unsweet custard like thing stuffed into a dry shortening crust. Dragon's custard was sweet and light, and there was a good balance of whole eggs and egg yolks, and the crust had a nice flaky and buttery taste. The winter mellon soup was not that fabulous. A good melon soup is baked directly in the over and the mellon melts in your mouth. Dragon did not do this. Instead they julliene the raw melon and then put the melon in a soup base (that wasnt that flavorful) and then oook the melon. The net net was a little beyond al dente julllie stips of winter mellon. this dish needs work. The bottom line: this a good restaurant worth trying. I have been hear a number of times and they are consistent and diners around me appear to enjoy their meal. This is busy restaurant, so don't epext to just walk in during weekend lunch time and be able to grab a seat. Expect to wait at least 20 minutes to an hour if you are thinking of eating here on Sundays.

Modern Dim Sum

By Audrey C |

Dim sum or Yum Cha is a Cantonese stable but also considered a treat to be shared with friends or family. I had wanted to try Dragon Beaux for some time but not alone. My friends and I finally hit this popular spot in the Richmond District. The service was efficient and quick, the food was delicious and served promptly and the tea was actually loose leaf full of flavor. We chose 7 dishes and enjoyed each one! I highly recommend Dragon Beaux for Yum Cha in a group so you can share the aromatic pot of tea and delectable dishes.

Very good place for some dim sum

By JohnWFG |

The restaurant is located on the corner of Geary and 21st. St, so parking can be challenging even on weekends. If you made it to the place, you'd find a really nice ambiance, modern decor and awesome food. I don't have much experience with dim sum but from all the dishes my favorites were the 5 Guys Xiao Long Bao, the classic steamy BBQ pork bao and the Tuxedo pork belly. Reasonable portions and pricing.

Dinner at Dragon Beaux

By William N |

A good place for seafood, dim sum and hotpot. The clam, steamed fish, peking duck, and crab is something that I craved. It's a very popular and busy place. I cannot wait to go back and enjoy family dinner. .

Favorite Dim Sum house!

Posh, elegant, yummy dimsum :)

By delie dell C |

This was my first visit... and being chinese who is used to eating chinese food especially dimsum... this restaurant is not bad! The dimsum are quite unique in its own way, without losing its chinese touch :) i love its xiao long bao, abalone pastry and abalone sticky rice... its charcoal baked pastry as well... heck... i love all the food we ordered. Lucky for us, we were early so we didnt wait for so long....

The taste it is like in HK.

Great Dim Sum... The taste is good! It is always crowded. Try to be there half hour before to get your table.

Fabulous dim sum

Dragon Beaux has the best dim sum that I have ever eaten. You will be surprised with the quality and variety of the dim sum.

3.5 stars dining. Good shrimp dumplings, xlb, tender greens

By Avrilx |

We tried it recently and it was ok. I think the expectation was set a little too high. Here are what we do like: Shrimp dumplings. The skin is relatively thin and the shrimp dumpling is pretty delicious. Xlb. Pretty good xiao long bao. Love how they presented also. Tender greens. Probably one of my favorite items there. So crunchy. Pork belly. Very fatty but skin was crispy. Items we thought was just ok: Beef chow fun. Ok, nothing spectacular. Sort of greasy. Fried milk. So excited to try this but no. It tasted like funnel cake from a carnival. I guess if you like funnel cake, then this is good. Lava egg bun. It's disappointing. It's oily and runny but doesn't taste eggy. Just oily tasting...not good. Like the version from HK lounge better. Decor. Nicely done. Much fancier than your average dim sum places. Much on par with fancy dining places in Asia. Service. Not that spectacular. Not very warm or specially friendly with what you will expect from a place like this. Amount. We spent just a little under $80 for the two of us. I would call it fancy. So for that...i rate it a bit over average. 3.5 stars.

Reminds me of a quote by Yogi Berra

By David G |

Yogi Berra once said of a restaurant in NYC, "It's so crowded, nobody goes there." Well, Dragon Beaux is very crowded. Ten minutes before it opened for lunch there was a long line waiting to get in. Ten minutes after opening time, we got the very last table. The interior is modern, dim sum is very good, and the selection is enormous. Selection is done using a checksheet, rather than with carts. Service was fair. Prices are a little above average. It was easy to find parking less than 2 blocks away.

HOT POT

By FIRSTBORNWONDER |

We ordered a few hot items but mostly had their hotpot. The hot items we ordered were chicken wings , salt and pepper fish, and pickled cucumber. The chicken wings had sauce on them unlike what we’re use to on the east coast. The salt and pepper fish and pickled cucumber were very good. For hot pot we got a variety of beef, chicken, tofu dumplings, vegetables, and udon noodle. It would definitely be less expensive if we did the all you can eat but some of the items we wanted weren’t included. The chicken we ordered was a whole chicken chopped instead of slices of breast meat so it took longer to cook. Service was a five for sure!

Great lunch

By BPenuliar2015 |

Went to Dragon Beaux on a weekday. Very different if you go on a weekend. Long line. Anyway, we were seated right away and ordered the following items: congee, dumplings, Xiao long bao and eggplant. All very good, you will not be disappointed. Locals and out of town folks love this place.

Good Variety but Pricey

By jnlvtrvl |

Dragon Beaux is one of my favorite spots for delicious dim sum! Similar to their sister restaurant, Koi Palace in Daly City, the quality of the food, ambiance, and service are all significantly better than your typical dim sum joint. They also cater to both the Asian and American crowds, without sacrificing authenticity or manners. They have lots of dim sum variety. It's all very tasty. Prices are a little higher, but in comparison to the generally pricey food scene of SF, it's quite reasonable. Just a note that tea is extra. $1.25/person for basic house teas, $2.50 for premium, and $3.25 supreme teas. Street parking and you can only make dim sum reservations if there are 8 or more people, otherwise best to come early.

Satisfaction

By massoudsaghafi |

This is one of the few restaurants in San Francisco without much hype and you get what ordered and food is indeed good. Shrimp and veggie dumplings are great and the mushroom noodle dish is excellent. Check-in is easy and wait is reasonable. Service is not the warmest and most friendly nonetheless, it is professional and courteous.

A very inviting place to enjoy a wonderful Chinese cuisine

By LakeviewMan |

I came here few weeks ago with my wife and had a great dinner experience. This time we have our hiking buddies to join us for table of eight. The live sea food selection is tempting but we decided just order direct from the menu. We have the Peking duck w/buns, Sauteed Sea bass, Honey Pepper Sirloin Asparagus and more. All the dishes are excellent. The service was very attentive with wait staff come frequently checking tea pot and changing our plates. Many other patrons here are going the hot pot route which I may come try some other time.

Classic Dim Sum in a Modern Atmosphere

By jle10 |

My fiance, friend and I went here on our trip to SF and it was pretty good authentic dim sum!! Make sure to get there early because the wait time gets pretty high. I love that they have tea that stays warm using a candle!! I highly recommend the soup dumplings, rice paste and siu mai. If we go again I would skip the squid ink dumplings and taro puffs, they both lacked flavor. I am Vietnamese and grew up eating dim sum at least twice a month :) so I know my dim sum!! If you are from out of town, be aware that prices are pretty high, we spent $70 on just 7 dishes.

Dim sum and Chinese cuisine at its best

By TravisRymal |

We had heard the dim sum here was good and it was outstanding. Also a beef and asparagus dish, roast duck, hot spicy beef, and Taingtaos were all tasting good. Service was excellent. Parking a nightmare. Highly recommend.

Visited twice within the first two weeks of its inauguration!

By John L |

A new venture of very established Koi Palace in the Bay Area and its first in the city of SF. Granted that the new resto is still working out its kinks, it shouldn't have opened its doors when it is not ready. It offers dimsums for lunch and is a hot pot resto for dinner. Unlike its mother resto Koi Palace with its full offerings. DB does not have a full kitchen and its offerings are prepared else and delivered from a central commissary. We didn't try the hot pot dinner but its dimsum lunch leaves a lot to be desired. Not up to par for some of its dimsum items and those that have to be fired or pan fried aren't done well. Staff still very confused and don't know their individual function. We were seated both times when the table weren't even set up for us, like no place settings, no condiments available, and foods offered before the brought the flatwares & chopsticks, and condiments have to be requested. The 2nd time was a marginally better experience for us but still would rate it slightly over one star. The resto has a trendy upscale ambiance, with soft and hard surfaces and not acoustically conducive since it was hard to carry a conversation when it is crowded. If you are wanting a dimsum lunch, wait for a month or two before you patronize DB. There are better established dimsum venues to go to within the Richmond district like Tong Kiand and the HongKong Lounge particularly the HK Lounge 2 further east down Geary Blvd. We were given a 10% coupon off of our second visit total foods expenses to be used for the next within the next two months. A marketing ploy to get you back, I imagine. It will be too bad if it doesn't work out all its kinks especially hiring a more professional or better trained staff. Hope that they are better prepared when they will open its 3rd full Chinese resto in Milpitas this coming June. Good luck!

Elevated Dim Sum (Chinese Tea Time) with small morsels

By PTO09 |

The elevated uniqueness of each morsel was new to my taste palette. If you are looking for something that is not commonly served, then this is the place to visit. Be prepared with the price per dish. Enjoy and decide if the quality and price is your cup of tea.

Queues Don't Happen Outside Chinese Restaurants by Accident

By ShanghaiDeco |

Being based in Hong Kong, we have seen everything on the dim sum side. This place in terms of food quality and presentation, rates up there with the best in Hong Kong. I went with my cousins who knew exactly what to order. A long queue forms outside the restaurant door, especially on weekends. So you are advised to be there early to make the cut. All people must be there to get a table allocation. The food is excellent and comes out relatively fast. The decor is Chinese modern with loft-like ceilings.

Juicy xiao long bao the best

By my82pink |

We came here 30 minutes before they opened and were the first in line. This place is so big that there were enough tables for everyone. Service was so quick that our items came in 10 minutes and then the next 10 mins after that. We were done eating in 30 minutes. Surprisingly they have the best xiao long bao next to DTF! We loved the juicy version over the 5 guys. The wrapper on the five guys were a bit thick and the fillings were a bit dry but the juicy version had the perfect consistency and super juicy! The siu mai and har gow were tasty and not too small or large. Everything was delicious. A bit more on the pricey side but worth it. Chicken feet was not the best dish here. Felt like it needed to be steamed longer as the skin did not easily fall off the bone. I love anything durian and had to get the deep fried puff durian which was an actual durian nugget! Also got the durian bao which was a sweet custard that I’ll pass on next time.

Major disappointment!!!

By sherry w |

Don’t know what all the hype is about. We went on a Friday lunch. @ 11:15 we got the last table. Ordered: BBQ ribs- excellent Char siu bao- good Squab- very good Shrimp rice noodle crepe-awful over cooked 5guys xiao long bao- awful overcooked lacked flavor & all tasted the same Chrysanthemum tea: awful tasteless Regret eating here & wouldn’t recommend. Huge line when we finished. Not worth the hype

wow

By HikingHonu |

Brought my 6 year old niece here for her first experience eating Dim Sum. We ordered 8 dishes, probably could have ordered less, but nonetheless it was great. Shrimp rice crepe, pork buns, shrimp/pork shumai, scallop dumpling, spinach dumplings. All were delicious. You pre- order your dim sum while you wait for your table, they ring up your order and they start bringing out your order as it is ready. They seem efficient and prompt. For a part of 3 at lunch time on a Wednesday, we waited for about 15 minutes. Our bill came to about $70 at lunch time. Fun and filling experience. My niece loved it.

Very Good Dim Sum in the Richmond

By Frank Sories |

I had seen Dragon Beaux recommended in San Francisco magazine and was intrigued. It looked like an upscale alternative to the other Chinese restaurants in the area, where the decor is tired and the menus fairly standard. My spouse and I went for lunch and were glad we did. We ordered a variety of items covering their major categories. The food was nicely prepared and, almost without exception, delicious. The number of items brought around on trays was small; ordering is mainly from a menu on which you check off the items you want. The roast duck was presented, and my spouse and couldn't resist because it looked wonderful. It was. Whereas some Chinese roast duck can be ultra-greasy, the fat layer had been removed, which left crisp skin and succulent flesh. The other items were selected from the menu. The soup dumplings (Juicy Pork Xiao Long Bao) were among the best I've ever had. The seasoning was subtle, and the flavor of the pork predominated. Black bean spareribs were far better than what you find elsewhere. They were ultra-moist, and there were cubes of taro underneath, which was a nice surprise. The Mongolian Beef Rice Crepe Rolls were huge, and the beef was very tender. It was a standout dish. We ended up over-ordering because the size of the servings was larger than what we are used to.seeing. The weak link was the baked items. The Baked Charcoal Chicken Curry Bao had an unpleasant flavor flavor that probably had to do with the mixture of spices in the curry. The Apple BBQ Pork Pastry was tasty, but there wasn't enough filling for the amount of pastry. The space is elegant and the service is attentive. We really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely return.

Expands the range for dim sum

Went to the restaurant during a family trip. The range of the dui sum they offered, from the traditional to the new, was impressive. I’d have to recommend the Five Guys XLB as well as the beef shu mai.

Best dim-sum experience in the Bay Area!

I would have to say this is one of the best dim-sum I've had outside of Asia. We were impressed by the presentation and the quality of the food and service. Their dim-sums items are traditional yet, with a new twist that is widely accepted by the young and old. My favorites were probably the squid ink and pea shoot dumplings. The stuffing was light and not heavy. The savoy daikon custard is very different than the typical daikon cake. You can actually taste cubes of daikon, delicious. The Chilled Honey Bitter Melon is cleaver but more of a palate cleanser rather than a "dish" to me. The beef cold cuts plate was one of the best I've had. The meat thinly sliced and very tender. They melt in your mouth. It was excellent. Out of all the dishes we ordered, there was just one spinach shiu mai special that wasn't too inspiring. But the crab roe shiu mai was superb. Many times we go to dim-sum places and you realize while you think you're eating different items but the stuffing are more or less the same. But Dragon Beaux really made each and every item unique. I would go back with a group of people so that we can try more items on the menu.

heavy dim sum, filthy floor

By SeeTheWorld4Peace |

We were taken here by a friend on Sunday morning. There was a big line out the door, and we had to wait about half an hour. But it was not worth it. The food was just OK. There was a slimy mess on the floor under my feet. I wonder what the rest of the place is like. The Chinese broccoli was not soft enough to eat. The dim sum dumplings were kind of greasy. The roasted duck was not bad. But I don’t understand why it is so popular.

Great Dim Sum Place

We visited there on a Saturday brunch. Its a new Restaurant right on Geary Blvd and 21st street. There is a public parking few steps away. The Outside, does not seems to be impressive but inside is quite new fashion for authentic Chinese restaurant. Its lovely and very spacious. I would rate the Dim Sum highly in San Francisco's standard. It has more than 60 Dim Sum items to choose from. We had Har-Kow, Shu-my, Shrimp blanket, Fried Milk, Lobster Low-Mein, Siao-Long-Bao and Egg Rolls. Each dish paired with a special/unique sauce. Everything was hot and steamy. Our waiter - Eric was great. He served us in a most professional way that we appreciated very much. There were many other staffs to make sure our tea pot are filled all the time. In addition to your order list, they will also offer you the other items to your table. We ended up taken ' Fried Donut' , Egg custard . They looks great! Prices are also reasonable here.

Good dim sum

Good selection of dumplings and other accompanying plates. A bit of a line outside but worth the wait. It's a shame they come to your table with platters of food you did not order just to have you buy it.
