Good food, great location.. fun patio dining

By Tiny_Bubbles007 |

Always great to a new location busy and doing well. This is the new Dream Café (vs. Routh which is a Dallas institution). We went on Mother's Day and was surprised by the short wait. Food: was good and portions just right. Good selection with vegatarian options. Eggs with spinach, mushroom and Swiss cheese.. really good. Eggs benedict would have had more hollandaise and very large portion for the tacos plate..all yummy. Definitely order the popover with strawberry jam..so good. Drinks are large - with or without alcohol. Good service and friendly staff. Parking: main lot in shopping center. Loved the patio dining - has umbrellas if it gets too hot. Would have liked pancakes or waffle options on the menu..or maybe I missed them.

Mother’s Day breakfast

By BillK76311 |

Went on Mother’s Day and the service was great for being such a busy day. The waitress was attentive and helpful even caught ( before it was served) that one of the dishes was sent out incorrectly. She was great! Food was very good as well. Party of 7 so a good variety of dishes and all were very tasty and worth the price. Will come back when we can.

Great Brunch

By Broadwaybeauty_88 |

I met my best friend here and we had such a great time. We ordered coffee and mamosas, which came quickly, along with the crossant beignets. Everything was just great. I'm grateful they had vegitarian/vegan options, which were great. The food did take a bit longer to get to the table but it was worth it. The staff was friendly, the bathroom was clean and it's a big space so being seated quickly was no issue. I will definatly be back.

Good Sunday morning visit

By mshbnyehud |

My first visit to Dream Cafe with family in tow, 3 generations worth. The young ones certainly got absorbed almost immediately with the coloring on the kids menu. Service was attentive, particularly in keeping the coffee flowing (and offering a to-go cup at the end). The coffee is delicious! I ordered the Country Benedict. Loved the blend of fried chicken (a very healthy portion) along with two poached eggs. Felt the eggs were a bit overcooked but otherwise the dish is very tasty. Next time I might order a separate small portion of country gravy to suit my individual taste. Hash browns came out on the crispy side, when is how I think they should be presented. All of the other dishes ordered were well executed. All in all, it was good enough for me to recommend to others and to return soon. Price wise, I think their dishes are fair.

Screaming Children

By Jaime S |

The Dream Cafe is a reputable restaurant which has been received with great delight in the Lakewood area. The finish out is nice and the overall "look" of the place is great. However, unless you are OK with having a nice Sunday brunch surrounded by crying babies and screaming children - this is probably not for you. The "background" noise in stereo really detracts from the zen like atmosphere and can really ruin the experience turning the dream into a nightmare.

Lunch

By karen m |

This is a local café in Lakewood on Mockingbird at Hillside. It is decorated very nice. Check out the website. Ceilings are high (as is every restaurant in Dallas now) so the noise level is high. I had lunch; the Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich. Very Good! It came with chips for $10.50. Almost everything on the menu started at $10.00 and went up to $15.00. Seem you can't eat cheap anymore in the metroplex unless you go to McDonalds. Breakfast - Popovers for $2.00, Muffins for $3.50, Biscuits and Gravy $7.00. Omelettes range from $9.50 to $11.00 and they had traditional breakfast as well. Lunch most burgers and sandwiches $9.00 to $14.00. Express lunch was $11.00. Check out their website. Our waiter was fantastic. Friendly place. We will got back.

Terrible customer service

By Lynda C |

Sadly, I will not be returning to Dream Cafe. While the table service on the outdoor patio was fine, the attitude and support of the manager was awful. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and discovered it had walnuts in it, to which I am allergic. I asked our server if the menu description stated that the sandwich included walnuts. He did not know so I asked for the menu. He was very polite and brought it to me. The description clearly did not state “walnuts”. I shared that I am allergic to walnuts and suggested that the menu should list walnuts, as there are many others who have allergies to nuts. He was apologetic and said he’d share with the manager. She came over, and rather than asking how she might help, immediately told me I should have asked as it was the customers job to ask. I shared that most restaurants list nuts as an ingredient, and by doing so protect the diner as well as the establishment. She became more defensive when I suggested she include walnuts in the description of the sandwich on the menu. She did not apologize but reiterated I should have inquired about nuts. She left, then returned, asking if the server had asked me if I wanted to order anything else. Her tone insinuated he was at fault, as well as me! I restated I merely wanted to make the restaurant aware, and that I did not want nor ask for anything else . She left again without one word of apology. Her rude attitude and unwillingness to even thank me for my suggestion has lost her my business as well as that of my friends and family. Goodbye, Dream Cafe!!

3rd try better

By MariannePh |

As a nearby resident I am hoping for this beautifully appointed cafe to settle in and stay in our neighborhood. My first visit for lunch with a friend included a chicken Caesar salad as a test barometer. Very bitter dressing was a disappointment. It took 3 tries for the correct tabs to be charged on the correct cards. The Mgr does that. Waiter was fine. Second visit was for take out at lunchtime. We waited at the bar and the bartender brought water as a courtesy and was sweet and attentive. He efficiently wrapped the orders handled the charges. Garden stir fry was tasty but overly salty or garlicky. Third visit at 8:00 on a Wednesday evening was for coffee and dessert. Coffee must be French roast which some people like. But the homemade key lime pie with a huge dollop of whipped cream was outstanding. Our waiter was very good. Several staff greeted us as well. A group of young professionals were having a good time at the bar. The outdoor seating is gorgeous at night although it's still to hit to enjoy being outside. So things appear to be improving!

Good choice

By Tah |

We keep coming back because service and food are so good. Pancakes, for example, are simply excellent, fluffy and huge, perfectly topped with whipped cream and sliced strawberries. None better anyplace else. And real maple syrup. Frittatas are huge, tasty and topped with salad. Sausage are two fat links, high quality, perfect. Service is gracious, accurate and patient. We personally don't like the dogs in outdoor seating area, but appreciate their accommodation for others. Try to go off-hours to avoid crowds. Recommended.

Just okay, expected more

By Faither |

We started with chips and chipotle salsa. The chips were good and the salsa had a nice kick to it. We figured the main dish would as well. Alas, it did not. My friend and I each ordered the Shrimp Tacos. She ordered them grilled and I ordered them fried. The grilled shrimp were tasteless; like they should have been marinated but they were not. My fried shrimp, well, they were fried but really could have had more flavor. I guess I am spoiled with black beans and rice as these missed the mark and also lacked flavor. The service was good and the place had a cool vibe to it. Not sure I would return but if I did, I would try something completely different.

weekday breakfast

By ScottEP |

Had a nice weekday breakfast during our visit. Sat on the outdoor patio in September during a cool spell. Good food. Service somewhat slow, but not objectionable. Coffee wasn't that good, docked one star for that. Otherwise pretty good.

Family breakfast/brunch

By JenniferD1291 |

Went with a large family group to brunch and the food was delicious. The Texas tacos are amazing and they have vegan and keto friendly food, the only downside was the service wasn’t great

Simple but awesome brunch

By Namie78 |

When we went there we started with a server who maybe wasnt in a good mood that day... but then we i started to see the brunch.... it looked like bunch of awesome dishes.... First i wanted to order a dish called "the elvis" but then changed my mind and wanted something more light so i ordered "the new yorker" was norwegian smoked salmon, toasted bagel, herb cream cheese, sliced tomato, capers, red onionis.. simply delicious !!!

Dinner on Patio

By Ken H |

The chicken in the chicken salad was over cooked and chewy. Not much flavor. Stale ice tea but good Dr Pepper!! Service was pleasant and friendly but much too spotty and not too attentive.

Very average food

By russkwtx |

We tried this place one week after opening, maybe it will improve as it moves forward. I had the farmer's omelette and it was ok but nothing particularly special. The description in the menu is better than the actual food. The sausage is not homemade but rather comes from a package that you can buy in the grocery store. The wife had chicken and waffles and it was a disaster. The worst chicken in the world. It was so hard and dry that it could be used to knock someone out if you hit them with it. Plus, way too much breading. It was nothing short of horrible and she ate only a few bites. No one asked if anything was wrong. Prices are not cheap and the food is not worth it. We have no intention of returning.

Breakfast

By Gstyers01 |

Nice, little place to have breakfast. They have a good selection of breakfast items. Everything we ordered was really good. I had the spinach & mushroom omelet. It was very fresh & flavorful. I think it was a little pricy for breakfast but the food & service was good.

I want to love it ...

By vanillawafer2017 |

I’ve been here quite a few times because of location -i used to go to a different locale. I actually have visited this location several times this week. Pros -tastefully decorated -open space outside -some interesting menu options . Great location nestled between lake highlands & Lakewood I decided to write after my last disappointing visit. Cons -every time I’ve been -they’ve never gotten my cappuccino correct -I’ve asked for extra dry lots of foam -it comes out with a tiny bit of foam but full of milk -surprising for a place with a coffee bar. House coffee not great -Don’t order the eggs Benedict . Earlier review is correct -it’s turned into a local family friendly hang out -if Loud children aren’t your thing-avoid the weekends -food is inconsistent, depending on how busy it is. Food doesn’t always come out at same time -they charge for Any and all substitutions & salsas etc . I brought an out of town guest there this weekend because my first choice was not open yet -we ordered entrees & a side ricotta pancake -which I usually love -it was seriously undercooked -i had to send it back -I tried to get the attention of 3 waitstaff -I finally approached my server who was dancing & singing & ringing something up at register -a very sweet young lady -but waitstaff appeared to be overworked & oblivious -lots of noise & such - Rest of food was fine -it’s just a little overpriced to be average to good food -(it will cost between 30-40 for 2 breakfast with coffee drinks )more disturbing was that a gentleman at the next table sat down & the chair beneath him collapsed & he fell -he was a larger man -but the chair shouldn’t have broken -I observed one wait staff apologize & ask if he was ok -he was flustered -embarrassed -on the floor -so he got up & left -no one else approached him -or cleaned up the chair for about 5 min -shameful customer service ! Someone from management should have checked on him -or the customers that stayed at the table. I’m disappointed-I won’t say I will never return -but it’s not going to be high on my list .

Food Fantastic...service slow

By MaynardImages |

I have been there several times and always experienced exceptional food. I write about the service being slow because I thing the owner should be made aware. On my last visit several of the waitstaff were huddled in a corner talking amongst themselves while my section of the dinning room was unattended. This will not keep me from returning, with the hope service will improve. This brand is a long lasting Dallas gem and now a neighborhood favorite!

Mediocre food; poor service

By Jeff P |

Service was poor. Server was new and untrained. Really hard to get more coffee. No jam with toast. Black beans were cold. "Austin tacos" are enchiladas, but very good. Served with a tiny dot of guac and sour cream. English breakfast tea was Chinese and had some fruity flavor to it. This could be a good restaurant, but management doesn't care. No attention to detail. No training. Sloppy.

Just OK

By Cindy M |

Flat staff...not much fun....cute place. Had the Austin tacos for late breakfast....lots of cheese but not much taste....filled me up, though....black beans and rice....pretty good. Others had migas....seemed to be okay ....kids had Mickey pancakes.....the bacon was really good. They liked the coffee.

Good food, small selection

By Carl S |

Everything on the menu is good, but the selection is limited. Most is kinda new agey type of food, not to my taste but many would like it.

Great brunch spot

By Dallastraveler49 |

I have visited the Dream cafe multiple times in the last month, in all cases for brunch. It usually is very busy and there is generally a small wait. They have both indoor and patio dining. The Miga’s are excellent. All of the breakfast items we have tried have been good. Well prepared and ample quantities. Recently I had the steak and eggs. The eggs were a touch undercooked but the steak was perfectly prepared. I was also surprised by the large portion of steak that was on the plate. We will go their often for breakfast and brunch.

Outside in the ambiaince!

By CynthiaCharleen |

I stopped late breakfast and enjoyed the selection of the menu items. The food was fresh and I enjoyed the vegetables with my breakfast. Casual dining at its best!

Great kids breakfast

By mshbnyehud |

Took the grandkids to breakfast, arriving shortly after opening. Lots of seating available, and our server was right there to take drink orders. Both kids loved the Mickey Mouse pancake and I added a perfectly cooked scrambled egg to each. I ordered over easy eggs (also perfectly cooked) with tasty thick sausage links, crispy hash browns and a puff pastry with strawberry butter (yummmy!). Coffee is excellent and my server Eddie refilled the cup a few times without my asking. I can't wait to return for another breakfast, or maybe lunch next time. Good stuff!

fun patio and atmosphere

By lazy susan |

been open a month. Service is fantastic. Employees seem so happy. About $15 a person. Food fresh and pretty. Not anything memorable, though. Been there 3 times and taking mom there for moms day. My husband seems to think the portions are small at lunch time. Good breakfast... expect a line. They will not seat incomplete parties or take reservations. There ar4e toys for the kids

Dream Cafe 2 Years Later. Better than Ever!

By Craig L |

First reviewed this location of Dream Cafe shortly after its opening. I am glad to report that time has treated this location well and it is still delivering good food at a reasonable price. Service is still friendly and relaxed and the ability to dine either indoors or on their pet friendly deck. I just treated myself to a Classic Burger (made from ground beef brisket) and a Chocolate Ganache Pie with Macadamia Nut crust and fresh whipped cream. Not my daily fare but wonderful when I choose to treat myself.

Sunday Late Lunch

By CPlumlee |

I have been wanting to try out this spot for some time. The cafe has a great patio and plenty of inside seating. We stopped in at 2:00 on Sunday. Honestly I hate saying anything negative as I know even the best places can have an off moment. That being said our experience was not the best. The waiter must have been busy as he forgot to bring our silver and napkins. He never offered to refill our tea or checked to see if we needed anything. When we finished we waited and finally had to signal to get our check. The food was ok but not great. I was disappointed that we spent $30 for two hamburgers and tea and did not at least enjoy the experience. Possibly another day I would feel differently so I may try again another day.

Hmm

By Catherine B |

I came here as part of a invitation for a couple that I have not seen in weeks. Walked by it many times, never curious enough to go in. Anyways, back to the review the menu. I went for brunch, the menu is more less the same thing that you find in any other restaurant in the city. No surprise there, except for some interesting changes in the way they serve it. Good service, the coffee cup was never empty and they checked on you quite often. The food, well I am not into restaurant that change a good dish for a “healthy” option when it is not healthy anyways. I wanted to get the New Yorker ( I believe was called), but the option of a whole wheat bagel with salmon, cream cheese and capers, sound disturbing to me. Finally, I went for a tuna sandwich, which is an open sandwich by the way. okay in flavor, but a bit messy when you try to eat it. I guess my point is there are really better options out there, try them. If you have to drive a bit longer make the effort to get there. The line waiting for service really puzzle me. Have eaten before there? I wonder.

Nice atmosphere, food... meh... price point high

By Meeae J |

The interior and general atmosphere is nice. Outdoor seating as well as indoor, a bit of a French feel to it. Not much space for each seat though so that could be a squeeze if you are tall. Food was ok, but for the price you pay... yeah I would rate it meh... I have a weak spot for Benedict. This was average at best. No flavor in the hollandaise sauce. The coffee was perhaps the most disappointing. Bland and tasteless. There are better places in Dallas for brunch

Great brunch

By Hidrfoot01 |

My wife & I went on Saturday around 11:00A.M. The place was packed & we were told it would be a 20 minute waite. We were seated in 10 minutes. We started with a homemade popover with a homemade strawberry jam. Delicious. We noticed that the portions were huge so we decided to share. We ordered the french toast Monte Cristo. It arrived hot and it was delicious. There was ham, cheese, and a honey mustard to go with. Service was excellent and p[rices were reasonable. We will return and I would order the same dish; however, I will try others.

Good lunch spot

By Mark F |

We had lunch here while visiting family. Nothing exceptional, but a solid brunch/lunch place. My nephew and his wife brought their young children and this place is very child-friendly. Recommended.

Ok but would not visit again

By _RT_TX_Travels |

Pleasant atmosphere for breakfast. Good service but very average food, especially for $30 for a couple. With so many other yummy breakfast options within 5-10 mins of this location, I would not recommend this spot.

Good variety, Good food

By twinkshouse |

Food: 4 / Service: 3 / Ambiance: 3 This was first time visit to the Dream Cafe. It's located in a busy shopping center, with multiple busy restaurants and shops adjacent. Parking could be a test of your patience, particularly on Saturday, which is when we went. We had to circle to get a parking space. It's a bright, very LOUD, restaurant with a very nice patio space. We were not asked if we wanted to sit outside on this beautiful day, instead we were taken to the bar area, where the tables all have bar height seats.. The service was slow, to the point that I said, to my daughter, that maybe we won't be eating here. When our server did show up, she was friendly, and in her defense I think she may have actually been doing double duty as bartender too, but not 100% on that, I just saw her back there a lot. Their menu has a nice variety, with popovers which is unusual. I had Chicken and Waffle, and my daughter got the Monte Cristo with Hash Browns. I did order one of the popovers, as my entree didn't come with one. The popover with the Strawberry Butter was very good, the Chicken was very juicy, tasty and large. The waffle was good, sweet, but not served with butter. The Monte Cristo sandwich, according to my daughter, was very good and the Hash Browns, she shared with me, were very good. The gravy that was served with the Chicken and Waffle, was good after I doctored it up with salt and pepper. They are pricey, but the portions of all that we got, and what we saw coming out of the kitchen, were sizeable. We had leftovers, so takeaway was necessary. I'd give them another try, but I think I'd like to sit on the patio, where maybe it wasn't so loud.

Pretty good breakfast with a lot of 'healthy' choices

By czmdivenut |

No biscuits and gravy (how can you have breakfast in Texas without?) but the omelet I had was tasty. Could use some jam with the dry wheat toast but the strawberry butter was OK.

Great little cafe!

By Leslie1957 |

My cousins (who eat here regularly) took me out for dinner and as soon as we entered, we were greeted warmly by several of the staff. The wait staff was very attentive and brought our food quickly, as well as bringing extra items (ketchup, limes, lemons, etc. . .) right away. The food was delicious. I had the Southwestern Salad which was very fresh and made to order, as I had requested a different dressing than listed. My cousins ordered the goat cheese appetizer, tomato/bleu cheese soup, and the Melrose Club (a delicious grilled chicken burger). We topped it off by sharing a large square of the Blackberry Bread Pudding topped with whipped cream. All items were very reasonably priced, especially considering the obvious high quality ingredients, preparation, and service.

Not-so-good on this visit

By Susan W |

Have been here many times for lunch and brunch. This was our first visit for dinner, and it was slightly disappointing. Service was slow and food was cold. A political campaign was having a meeting on the patio, and maybe the staff was preoccupied with them - who knows.... Hard to say I won't return, because I really like Dream Cafe, but this location was just not up to par on this visit. They can do better.

Saturday, slow service and they aren't busy. . .

By Robyn G |

I would not write about this restaurant again except this is my third visit here and the last two have not been a pleasant experience. The waiter was prompt to take our orders and that was terrific. They brought a high chair to our table which is nice. However, they were not busy for a Saturday morning and the wait for food was entirely too long. The food tasted okay but not worth going back for. The waiter seemed knowledgeable about gluten free items. The location is perfect for the neighborhoods around. Grab a cup of coffee or OJ and anticipate waiting a while. If you've got time, great. I however have a toddler and we just don't have all the time in the world to wait around for average food.

Average breakfast spot

By Travellover6128 |

Very busy restaurant, took a while for our orders to be taken and then delivered. Rather a loud atmosphere, so it was difficult to have a conversation. Food was reasonable but wouldn’t rush back.

Excellent Lunch

By LonestarSpartan |

We went to lunch with our Nephew who lives nearby and sat at the bar. Christopher Michael was our bartender and he was great. Very personable guy who made our visit enjoyable. The food was excellent. I had the Pesto Chicken Salad with Bacon sandwich which was delicious. Others had a Benedict and an Omelette and they both said their meals were great. I would strongly recommend the Dream Cafe for an excellent meal and we will definitely be visiting there again when we are in town.

Always a Good Choice

By mcgotes |

Visited this neighborhood stable yesterday for lunch and once again was pleased we decided to visit. Huge menu from breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner options that rarely disappoint. The Santa Fe Chicken Ceasar was delicious! Surveyed nearby tables and everything looked tasty and presented nicely. We've found the staff to be friendly and attentive. Nice patio dining as weather permits and will return!

Love this place!

By Jeannie H |

Went to lunch with some out-of-town visitors. The food was very good, as always. The customer service was really exceptional in dealing with a finicky teenager's vagaries -- can't say enough good things about the management.

New location in Dallas!

By Robyn G |

The new Dream Cafe in Dallas on Mockingbird is a refreshing new establishment in the area. This location used to be a taco place but I'm so happy the Dream Cafe moved in. I love the way they removed the location and the service was terrific. I was there for breakfast and the coffee and food were delicious. Highly recommend. They also have a separate gluten free menu.

Basic Good Breakfast Options!

By mcgotes |

We met friends for breakfast, service outstanding (thanks Amanda), food average. Menu options, great (something for everyone), only concern was that the meal wasn't served piping hot. It's kind of a preference. However would enjoy again.

Old Standard Consistently Delivers!

By TheAviatorRJ |

So, we're back in the Big D after more than a decade in the Carolinas. What a pleasant surprise it was to find a Dream Cafe in Lakewood! In our DINK (dual income no kids) days, we'd make the trek from West Plano to the Quadrangle arrea, and, later we brought the munchkin in tow b/c of the playground down there. Fast Forward 20+ years or so, and here we are. The happy hour is AMAZING and the wait staff is the best, even in the midst of the pandemic!

Service & Food Failure & Expensive

By Mi-Dan20 |

Like the other reviewers excited to have a new restaurant in our neighborhood however after our recent visit we will not be back. The service was terrible, forgot everything we asked for including a basic like water, the waitress even came by to refill our "non-existent" water glasses then realized she never brought water. I did find it interesting one reviewer said they "even have a gluten free menu", when we were there they did not have a separate menu. The waitress kept forgetting to ask the chef if certain items were gluten free, finally gave us an answer after several inquires. The meal was so wrong that they ended up taking one of the entrees off the bill and it was still expensive. Desert was bland, the only thing passable was their version of a cosmopolitan, again we won't return and can not recommend this establishment.

Bad Dream Cafe

By TLS56852 |

The atmosphere is nice. The food was terrible. I ordered Shrimp Tacos. What they put in my taco, looked like a processed sort of fried patty that may have had some pieces of shrimp tucked inside. Ridiculous for the price and it wasn't good. Another person ordered The Elvis. She said the eggs tasted like fake eggs and the biscuit was dry, the hash browns burned. They took both meals off of the bill. I have no desire to ever return.
