We wanted somewhere for a good meal to end our visit to Chicago. By chance we came across Jacks (just a short walk from Belmont train station) and a very happy chance it was too. We had the classic meal: a salad- in this case pear salad with gorgeous vinaigrette; then a steak cooked exactly as requested with crisp caramelized vegetables. A rich glass of red wine. An ice cream dessert. The food could not have been better. Attentive personnel who were efficient and just as friendly as you wanted. A great experience. One to remember. Thanks guys.

Went here after the late show for Blue Man Group to have tea and dessert. The dessert I had was DREW'S SMORE'S SUNDAE!!! Soooooo delicious it hit the spot with a great Lemon Ginger tea and honey that is just divine.

We had dinner there before our show. The aircraft felt like they were trying to hurry us along the whole time, despite the place being half empty. Mywife recollection is that they have a fixed price menu. I'd definitely go that way, as a la carte seemed like rather poor value for money.

We stopped in for a sit-down lunch before a performance of the Blue Man Group nearby. Our food was colorful, healthy and arranged nicely on our plates. The service was polite and the staff looked after beverage refills. On a cold and rainy day, it was nice to be in a cozy environment and be well served. A great experience!

Great location near Briar Street Theater, service was a little slow, but they seemed a little short handed as it seemed our waiter was doing it all. Food came out very quickly and it tasted great.

Recommended to eat. Good and in very convenient location. Friendly staff, clean tables. We welcomed the 2018 there with a very good friends and the restaurant staff were so familiar. They offered Champagne at might night. Very good place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Drew's on Halsted. The menu has a variety of choices and service was excellent. The pianist gave the restaurant a supper club feel without drowning out conversation. This is a great location for pre-Blue Man Group, as the theater is very close.

Drew's is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to dine when visiting Chicago. I would describe the atmosphere as casual elegance. The food is delicious with a wide variety of options and price ranges. The live pianist complements the atmosphere and is not intrusive. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Upon our last visit, we left feeling like we had made new friends. I recommend making a reservation. Will definitely be back.

Went on Saturday evening with my wife and our daughter's mother-in-law. Drew was there to welcome us. Knew right away this was going to be a great experience. Service was excellent without being hovering or too personal. Menu is creative, with everything from fancy appetizers to imaginative sandwiches to wonderful dinner entrees. Great ambience that manages to be elegant but not intimidating. Not loud, talking to your companions is easy. Good drinks, fun cocktails and nice wine list. Even bought our daughter and son-in-law a gift certificate!

OVER RATED....Always has been

THOROUGHLY Enjoyed family dinner here - July 2016. Location is easily accessible off Lake Shore Drive and located < 500 feet from Blue Man Group. Had outstanding dinner service and food quality. Martini and Cosmopolitan + Butternut Squash appetizer were excellent. Filet mignon, bone pork chop, and scallop entrees were all stellar. Bread Pudding dessert is outstanding. Restaurant server and kitchen staff were knowledgable and conscientious regarding daughter's food allergies. HIGHLY RECOMMEND - Best Chicago Dinner I have had in several years.

We picked Jack's on Halsted before seeing Blue Man Group at the Briar St Theatre. We got right in & seated without much wait. The restaurant is actually quite romantic despite it's hip, loud vibe. The food was superb. Our waiter was very attentive to what we wanted & gave suggestions since it was our first time there. Service was fast & great. Perfect place to go before the show!

Stopped at Drews for brunch before the 2pm show of Blue Man Group at Briar Street Theatre. The food was great and came out fast. The bloody Mary bar had so many great choices - a classic meal in itself! We sat at the bar and got top notch service from Christian.

ate there twice on 21 and 24 May.. Love to eat there when in Chicago. On the 21st, was there late night. Full plate and then some. 5 star food and 5 star service. Recommend the place to all my friends.

This is one of the best meals we had in Chicago, hostess and wait staff were excellent, food was delicious and affordable, bacon wrapped dates highly recommend. Everyone in our party of 8 love their food.

We ate here before going to Blue Man Group. It was around the corner. Cozy, dim lighting, quick, capable and courteous staff. They had napkins folded like a vest/jacket on the plates. Food was really good. My boyfriend and sister had the half chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and spinach (they had the 3 course meal). They agreed that it was really good, comfort food. They had salad to start, the entree then dessert. He had chocolate ice cream and she had creme brulee- both had too much powdered sugar on top, I had a cheese burger and fries, which was also very good. Portions were good, as was price.

A friend took me here for steak. The Sunday night music was an unexpected treat - an exceptional vocalist and exceptional guitar player. We two musicians appreciated their talent. Wine was by the glass, so it was easy for both of us to have what we wanted. For an appetizer, we chose the tuna tartar. This was unusual for me, but VERY tasty. I'm recommending this if you're in the mood to experiment, go for it! We both had the steak with the mashed potatoes and vegetables. For dessert, we split the bread pudding (dried cherries, caramel sauce, and ice-cream). We ended up staying for two sets of music because it was so great. They also have music with a different performer (same guitarist) on Thursday nights.

We booked a table for 6 people for New Year's eve dinner. We arrived on time and we were seated right away at a small table that could actually fit 4 people. I was stucked between a wall, my table and a table behind me. If I needed to move, the whole table had to move to let me out. It was more "lunch time in high school" than "fancy New Year's Eve dinner in town". Without mentionning it on our booking, they charged us 15 dollars per person just to be seated. Which was an extra 90 dollars for the table !! We were with a 9 year old kid and they charged us with 15 dollars even for her !! What a shame. Dinner was not even that good : 19 dollars for half of a chicken without any sauce of any kind and 16 dollars for a very dry angus burger (the blue cheese looked more like water thant actual blue cheese). Service was not nice. No smiles. For that special evening, they had a pianist playing. Which could have been nice. Unfortunately, he was playing songs that no one in the room was familiar with which didn't help to have a nice time. He was playing and talking to his friends at the table next to the piano so loudly that it was impossible to talk with our friends at our table. Moreover, he started to play the song "La vie en rose" but he didn't go through the song and started to make funny noises on the music... why ? He kept going on by saying french words which didn't make any sense for the next 3 minutes in a comic way. Unfortunately, we were 2 french women in the group and we felt really insulted by the way he was acting. He was just making fun of our language. We came to Chicago to have a good time with old friends and this restaurant and his pianist just ruined our evening. For 2 people, with a bill of 123 dollars for a chicken with mashed potatoes, a soup and 2 raviolis including 30 dollars of fees, it was an expensive and not pleasant evening !

Read reviews so felt it would fit our dining style. It did just that. Had brunch. Plentiful food at a reasonable price and delicious.

My family tells me we have had brunch here...but it didn't stand out until this recent visit. I stayed basic with eggs benedict. Delicious. The interior is so nice. There is an outdoor patio we didn't sit in. This is a perfect stop on Cubs game day.

We exited the redline on Halstead without any specific restaurant in mind so we used trip advisor and found Drews. We were seated right away and since we were not overly hungry we just had a salad and appetizer. The salads were very good and the app was excellent. The service was quick and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

While the location is desirable, and the cocktails good, it does not make up for the extremely poor quality of the food. Perhaps if you’re just looking for a burger or some brunch it may be acceptable, but our dinners were sadly lacking. The bowtie pasta with sausage was not good, the ribeye most certainly was a strip steak, though they disputed that fact! The Amish chicken was passable, but that is not enough to make us want to go back. Service is friendly , but again that’s not enough to make us want to go back.

this guys will go the extra mile to please you. great service, highly recommended. We stopped by for a couple of drinks and end up returning for a quick fix

Great food and service! All 5 of us were happy with our meals! We went to Drew’s before going to the Blue Man Group. It is half a block from the theatre. We tried the Butternut Squash Ravioli - Starter. For the entrees we had the Mediterranean Salmon, Cajun Penne Pasta, Halibut Special, Pear Salad and Goat Cheese Salad. All were excellent!

We went here before going to the Blue Man Group show (just along the road). We were lucky to get a table without booking beforehand. When we arrived the restaurant was relatively empty, but it soon filled up. I had crab cakes with an egg on a brioche. My friend had a toasties with soup. We were happy with our food. I was delighted to find that they did Porn Star Martini Cocktails - the side of prosecco was large! All very good

After a few drinks in both Andersonville and North Halsted we dropped into Drews on Halsted for a quick bite to eat. What a lovely restaurant which was fairly quiet on our Sunday evening visit. Service was friendly and helpful - we had the fish sandwich with fries and my partner a vegetarian pizza accompanied by a couple of glasses of red wine. The food was very good and on another occasion it would be nice to have a leisurely dinner here. North Halsted was busy and buzzy on a Sunday night. A good spot for dinner whatever your persuasion - $59 for 2 + a $10 tip.

I had the tremendous privilege to visit this exceptional restaurant with two close friends last saturday night, for what can only be described as a " very special culinary experience ". From the appetizers all the way to the desserts, everything we tried was absolutely superbe and exquisitely presented. The professionalism and attentiveness of the personnel was remarkable and highly appreciated. It was indeed a night to remember and all I can say now is: " I can't wait to go back...!!! " Congratulations on running a First Class operation...!!!!

Looking for something relatively close by to put together with a cabaret show on Mother's Day eve. Found favorable yelp reviews and recommended by a friend. Checked out online menu and started salivating over the choices and pre-chose my dinner. Discovered another huge plus (very congested almost impossible area for parking) when I called for a reservation that for $5 you could park in the nearby church lot not just during your meal but until midnight!! So we could park, dine and walk the short distance to and from the show! What a deal! Restaurant is somewhat intimate with white tablecloths and candles on the table. Some remodeling is also obviously going on since the bathroom was kind of half new and half old. Since I had my mind already set for dinner I was somewhat disappointed to find the appetizer and dessert on a set $29 three course meal that I had chosen was no longer being offered. However my entree of Mediterranean salmon was still there in addition to three other choices. So had to revise my crab cake to a butternut squash ravioli appetizer which I would have never chosen. And boy would I have missed out! It was great! I revised my bananas foster or creme brulé dessert to bread pudding which was very good but I still would have preferred either of the other two. So, in summary the food, service, ambiance, prices were 5 star with a little extra for that parking deal. Only minus would be that the online menu is not totally accurate. But for $29 still fabulous appetizer, entree and dessert choices and even reasonably priced martinis. Will definitely return.

We didn't expect much going to dinner in the neighborhood before Blue Man Group but we were very pleasantly surprised by Jack's. We were seated immediately without reservations by a chatty waiter who made us very welcome and who knew to give us some privacy after taking the order. The crab cakes are superb - as good as any on the East Coast. Scallops with gnocchi and mushrooms was an unusual and delicious dish. The mahi-mahi with pineapple salsa was uneven, sweet and tender in the thicker part but bitter on the thinner side indicating that it was either overcooked or over-aged or both. The tables were nicely set with a cleverly folded linen napkin but it was a little too chilly and dark. Do ask for the 10% discount if you have BMG tickets.

new ownership has renamed this restaurant but has kept most of the excellent previous standard menu while adding some new creative specials. Also serves tasty burgers, ample wine list and good mixed cocktails-you can even enjoy anchovy stuffed olives with your martini. Small outdoor patio. Attentive service.

We had a hard time finding a place to eat before seeing the Blue Man Group. This was easily the cleanest option in the area. The menu seemed a little limited, but the food was delicious. I would definitely go back if I were in the area again!

We have been to Drew's several times and have enjoyed each time overall. The menu is great with some special items. The bar staff is very attentive and knows how to make a great drink. This is a great place for couples and friends to go have a nice meal. Located on a busy corner but the windows give you the great city vibe. Love it!

As a 27 year resident of the neighborhood valuing "Jack's on Halsted" as a neighborhood gem, can rightfully say the current ownership has succeeded in bringing this restaurant down to an unacceptable level. A visit on a quiet Monday (1.29.18) brings the evaluation into focus. As the only person in the perhaps 100-seat restaurant at 5:30 PM, was not greeted as I entered [this is a supposedly "higher-end" restaurant], taking a seat at the bar. The bar staff continued to stack bottles of beer into the under-bar cooler, discussing some details of their effort without asking me for my interest. As I asked for a menu, it was then presented. When asking about the "unlimited $6 Martini" offering, I was told as to what I could not have under this promotion, rather than what I could have, but was then told only an inferior "bar" gin was offered. A "restaurant week" menu was offered online at this establishment, but was presented only after I requested it. The martini presented was acceptable, but with Fleischman's gin as the only alternative. The Kale soup appetizer had all vegetables overcooked, and was presented in a lukewarm fashion with a 6 ounce offering . [Remember that I was the only client in the restaurant at the time.] Th blackened beef "shiskebab" in a flavorful sauce was overcooked, perhaps with 3 1.5 oz. servings, with all beef of very tough, seemingly US Good or US Supply quality. The entree was presentable, attractively served with roasted quality yellow squash and zucchini, and a (stated) 10 oz. strip steak properly prepared rare, but of chewy US Choice or US Good quality.. The "signature" dessert, a caramel-covered bread pudding was disappointing, in that the pudding was soggy and the caramel was red-colored and more like a thick glue, than a softer caramel. Service was really poor though two individuals were behind the bar, and there were no more than three customers at the bar [and none in the restaurant proper] during my entire 1 and 1/2 hour stay. An ownership reckoning. . . or change. . ., . is needed here before an acceptability level can be achieved.

We chose this restaurant (now called Drew's) because of its proximity to the theater where we went to see Blue Man group. It is a very pretty restaurant and the staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. I had the appetizer portion of the mushroom risotto...very, very good...and their signature salad, also very good. One small mistake...my husband ordered the mussels and they brought it with the wrong broth/sauce but it was still good. The kids loved the beef skewers and the flatbread. We would definitely go back!

Came here for a birthday brunch with a large group (around 12) and it was a perfect pick. Food is really good with a variety of choices, and the menu isn't overpriced. Service was great as well. It was easy to split checks, and the server really did a great job acknowledging the birthday guest. Would definitely recommend!

We went to Jack's prior to seeing Blue Man Group on a Thursday night. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The menu had a nice variety of choices: seafood, steak, burgers, vegetarian. Loved the decor and the tables were a great size.

Flat Iron Steak that melted on our mouths with garlic mashed potatos and a veggie. For desert, the most delightful Cheesecake with Peaches on top, I have ever eaten. Thank you for a wonderful Birthday Dinner that I will remember for a very long time.

Like many others, we chose Drew's for dinner before seeing Blue Man just a block away. There aren't many upscale restaurants in the neighborhood, and Drew's menu looked good. The pear salad was good, but not as sweet as most. The Classic Caesar had a very nice presentation but the balsalmic glaze wasn't at all traditional. The crab cakes were good although the chipotle mayo almost overwhelmed the crab flavor. The highlight of the meal was the ahi tuna with risotto. Excellent! The other entrees (the bowtie pasta, Amish chicken, and a steak with blue cheese) were all good, but not remarkable. The creme brulee was tasty, but the consistency was almost runny. Service was very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is great. Tables can be a little close together. Overall, not a bad meal, but there were a lot of "buts" when each of us was asked if we enjoyed our meals. For the $310 we paid for dinner for four (including tax and tip) we expected more. Our bill included two salads, two appetizers, four entrees, three desserts, six cocktails and a couple Mexican coffees.

Drew’s is a must for us on our annual visits to Chicago. Everything about our dining experience there has always been exceptional! The food is perfectly prepared and delicious, and the service beyond remarkable. Thank you to Rob, a true professional, and to Drew & your entire staff for your gracious hospitality. We can’t wait to return.

Went with a large group for lunch at Drews prior to Briar Street Theater performance. Luncheon menu was varied, the food was delicious (the garlic truffle frites are to die for....), and then dessert. If you have nothing else at Drews, have their bread pudding. Amazingly delicious, just as advertised. Even though we live some distance away, my wife and I will make the effort to go back and have dinner. Try it - you'll like it.

Good food and great service. Sat on the patio and had wonderful mimosas (even mango and guava options). We enjoyed our time at Drew's. Excellent spice in their chilaquiles. Accommodating for egg white omelettes and soy in coffee. Only disappointed at the size of the crab cake on the Benedict, a smaller and toasted Brioche would have helped not to notice as much. But overall a very good experience and nice place.

Very busy upbeat eating establishment. Walked in on a Saturday night without reservations and had immediate seating. Our service was excellent. Our selected wine was a Peter Lehmann (Clancey) Meritage for $28, an excellent price for a wine spectator rating of 90. My partner and I enjoyed the calamari and butternut squasch ravioli for aps and each had a salad to follow. This was all totally sufficient to get us through about an hour and half visit to this excellent white tablecloth restaurtant at the gateway to Chicago's boystown.

My daughter and I ate here before Blue Man Group at the Briar Street Theatre, which is less than a block away. The food and service was excellent - a friend of mine and I shared the duck confit entree and scallop entree. My only complaint is that my daughter's flatbread had a large pool of olive oil on it. Also, since Market Days was going on outside it was incredibly loud in there. (It made for great people watching though)

Drew's is one of those restaurants that you finally go to and wonder why you hadn't gone before. You find out how awesome it is the minute you walk inside. Initially my family came here because they had a great deal for parking during the NLCS at Wrigley. For $5 we parked until the game was over. Well, that wasn't the only deal. The food was amazing. I was impressed by the shrimp and scallops ceviche as well as the bowtie pasta and Italian sausage plate. Everyone at Drew's was polite, friendly and professional. They treated you right. Come and enjoy this awesomeness.

We were in the area and getting hungry so we stepped into Drew's without a reservation (I assume they take reservations, I don't know for sure). We were quickly greeted and seated at the table of our choice. It was only moderately busy as there was no show that night - they have a piano and have some kind of entertainment at times. The atmosphere is pleasant though a bit loud, which is common in most modern restaurants. The menu presented a nice selection of options with a separate short list of specials as well and a martini list. I chose the cucumber mint gimlet which was so-so - light but with little flavor. Hubby chose the French Amour martini which was quite good. We had the calamari from the special menu for starter. The breading had a nice spice which I don't normally see with calamari. My first piece was just a tad rubbery though most of the remaining pieces that I ate had a good texture. I ordered the Halsted burner with no bun. It came with very, very, very crispy bacon (but not burned) - I found that amusing. I order it medium but it was served medium-well (zero pink inside). I was too hungry to argue about it, and I'm never that overwhelmingly picky about my meat. I also ordered the parmesan truffle fries, but I think I got the regular fries - there was nothing parmsan-y or truffle-y about these! Hubby ordered a "classic Caesar" salad with salmon on it. The salmon was nicely cooked, but the salad was dressed with a balsamic vinegar dressing. We found ourselves wondering what was "classic" about a caesar sals that did not have the usual creamy dressing! Service was the real weak link. It turns out our table server was apparently the bartender for a bar with no open seats, so everything moved in slow motion for us. Mind you, I don't mind having a table for an evening and drawing out a meal, but that still requires occasional attention from the server to keep things moving along. I have to wonder if they were short staffed as so many places are today, so I am giving them a little benefit of the doubt on that aspect, but I would have preferred that they acknowledge this to us rather than just let us sit and simmer. My final criteria for any place is would I go there again. I think I might eat at Drew's again, but I am not won over. I guess it would have to be on the invitation of others or the only decent place open - which is unlikely.

We both had steaks, two different cuts. One was very tender. The atmosphere is nice without be pretentious. The music was the right volume.

On our recent visit to Chicago we stayed within walking distance of North Halstead. Being on West Coast time we were looking for places that served later. As we were strolling Halstead we checked out the menu at Jacks aka Drews and decided to give it a try. We were seated by a charming young man who also was acting as the bartenhder. I chose a drink off their specialty martini menu and was very pleased with the martini made with hearts of fresh watermelon and vodka. My companion and I decided to try several small plate appetizers to get an idea of the variety served by the kitchen. The spicy salmon and tuna tartare was a standout as was the caparccio and finished with a flatbread pizza. A couple of nights later we made a reservation to try the entrees. The Hickory Roasted Salmon was one of the best preparations I've ever eaten served with simple roasted potatoes and a light chutney adpnd cabbage. Will definitely keep Jacks on my Chicago rotation.

I had a very enjoyable evening here. No complaints about the food or service. I reserve my "5" reviews for restaurants with larger table spacing and lower noise levels.

This is a place I would add to my list of Special Occasion restaurants It is definitely a nice place and has a good bar. The servers are good and the food is very well prepared. This is a great choice for New Year's Celebrations and the like. They usually offer a special menus for those special events and it is very much up to the standards of their regular menu which is quite good. This is a dependably good restaurant where you get a good value for what you pay for. It is what I would term high casual, but you will be comfortable here. They are unpretentious. Very good for almost any dinner.

This place is awesome! The staff were so friendly and warm, and the food was delicious. I have absolutely no complaints and if I wasn’t going home tomorrow, I’d be back for more. Highly recommend 👏

It was good to be back in Chicago again and it's places like Jack's that keep me longing to return to Chicago.

A group of girls went to Chicago to celebrate 30+ years of friendship. We reserved a table for 10 in the outdoor patio area. It was absolutely magnificent! The wait staff was friendly, kind, and provided excellent service. The menu was diverse and everyone loved their entree, drinks, & the wonderful atmosphere. It was a treat to meet Drew, as he is an Ohioan as well - so always great to reconnect to your home town roots! Keep up the amazing work Drew & hope to visit again soon!

Jack's on Halsted has become a definite place to eat & drink for that location. Lucky for us they also have "the best" selection of cuisine like steak, burgers, and pasta and even have an appetizer of ribs.Inside the lights are set perfectly & even brighten up by the bar with a row of lighted "icicles". .If you haven't been here before you have to meet the bartender who I believe to be one of the best in town and after a martini like that u gotta come back(half-price on monday too.) I believe they still have half-price wine on Tues. also! JACK'S has definetely earned it's right as "The Local Classic."

We had six friends for Restaurant Week and we all ordered different dishes - all fabulous! Friendly, attentive wait staff. Great selection of cocktails. Salmon was so fresh and the lamb risotto was wonderful. We loved that the round table success as we could all talk together. We'll be back.

visiting Chicago from the UK for the weekend, spur of the moment decision to dine here and so glad we did, super friendly staff, food was amazing, entertainment by the beaus was just the best, the beers kept coming, so what’s not to love. Would definitely return, thanks guys

We had the $29 3 course meal. The appetizers and desserts were really great, but the meal part left a lot to be desired. I went with my 3 sisters - we all had different entrees - all were overcooked and a bit lack luster. Next time I think we;ll just stick to the appetizers and dessert.

We read to eat here before we went to Blue Man group. They did not dissapoint. We ordered the steak kabobs and the ravioli and the mushroom risiotto. Everything was fantastic. We even ordered the chocolate dessert which was truly a treat. When we arrived we did have reservations, but were told we did not really need them. We got there pretty early since our show started at 7:00. The host suggested we not sit near the window, which is where we wanted to sit, because a couple was sitting there nearby and had foul language. That is worth a ton in my book. They did not have to do this, but we were with our teenage daughter, so this was priceless to me. If your looking for a fantastic menu, with impecable service you must go!

We chose this place because it was located close to the Briar Street Theater. The food was fabulous! From the appetizers to the main course, everything was superb. We even stopped back after the show to have dessert & drinks....nothing disappointed! Cristian, the bar manager, was also our server. He gave us great service & also recommendations of places to see while visiting Chicago. This is a must for anyone visiting the Lakeview area of Chicago!

From the outside Drew's may not look like much. However that food was fabulous. My husband had the Diver Scallops. I had the Devilesque Linguini (featuring fresh fish, shrimp, scallops and Calamari), and our teenager he the Duck Confit. Everything was prepared to perfection and very fresh. Reservations recommended.

Friendly Staff, Great Location, Innovative Menu, Killer Martinis, Arrange for a window table right after a Cubs game and watch the World walk by!

As we were being taken to our table a lovely woman overheard us talking to our host and commented “this is the best restaurant in Chicago”! Based on experience we would concur! To start, our waiter Rob was magnificent! He was charming, engaging & a true professional. Everything about his service made us feel at home! THANK YOU! The martinis for starters are a must, as is the bacon wrapped date appetizer. Our entrees were perfectly prepared, the sides fresh and delicious! I had the NY Strip & my wife the Amish Chicken. We would recommend both! For dessert we concluded our experience with a Chocolate Espresso Martini - it was a perfect finish. Before we departed the owner Drew took time to speak with us and thank us for visiting his restaurant. It was a truly remarkable evening!!

Drew's is a hidden gem tucked away near Briar St Theatre. The atmosphere and ambiance is great. This is, however the noisest restaurant in which I have ever dined. Service was excellent, cocktails were good, menu was a nice variety and plate pesentations were very nice, but the food....was just average at best. Flavors were very bland. Just nothing special or memorable on the taste side.

Family went to jacks before ble man group show....three course meal...amazing. crabcakes, salmon (I had the whole wheat pasta). Daughter had the brie pizza...best! Waiter was attentive in a very busy setting. 5 stars plus!

Great place on a busy corner of Lakeview/Boystown. Menu is well chosen and expertly executed. Cocktails are well done as well. Decor is minimal, not distracting. Service is friendly and competent without being pushy or intrusive. Great place for an upscale yet comfortable restaurant.

I try to dine at Drew's each time I visit Chicago. The combination of delicious food, varied menu, excellent service and fun, comfortable atmosphere make it one of my favorites. There is a wide range of both food options and price levels to meet everyone's needs. There is a separate cocktail/martini menu and the drinks are expertly made. I have introduced my coworkers to Drew's, and they also enjoy it very much. Cannot wait to return.

Jack's has been one of our favorite Lakeview restaurants for a long time. Good service and food. Last night we a surprising exception. Maybe it was because we sat at the Hi-tops in the bar. We both ordered salads, but they reversed what we had ordered on them (chicken vs salmon). My salmon was good, but my partner's chicken was dry. (Hopefully this is a rare exception!) On the plus side, we tried their lemoncello martinis... which were great!

I really can't say anything different than everyone else has said. We were delighted with our first-time experience at Drew's. The service was flawless, the staff highly attentive in a non-obtrusive manner and the quality of the food, its preparation and its presentation were really top-drawer. We'll definitely be back for more!

As new at the neighborhood, we decided to give it a try although we had read some bad reviews. First we were greeted by a hostess with a huge stain on her white t-shirt (very odd). Then, we were seated on a table (two adjoined tables) that had a slope, meaning one of the tables was significantly taller than the other. The guy who poured the water did say nothing, not a simple: "good evening." Food was very disappointing to say the least. Bread was not fresh. It was a frozen piece of french bread that was thawed quickly on the microwave, and then put on the oven for too long so it was burned on one side. It was hard, and not what anyone should expect in any even mediocre restaurant. We order the goat cheese and tomato with :crostini." No idea what they understand by "crostini," but those five slices of the same bread were even worst: extremely hard to bite, but not crunchy at all. Tomato was not natural and the goat cheese was a small round thin slice floating on a bowl of very salty canned tomato sauce. We ordered as a main dish the Halsted burguer. We told the server "medium," but it was well done, flavorless and not juicy at all. The little bits of blue cheese added the only flavor to the burger. Bread bun was good, but too big for the size of the burger. The fries were not ready made, but frozen and fried. Very disappointing again. Needless to say that we went on a midweek day and the restaurant was more than half empty. Cocktails were good and desert, the pudding, was good too and decently presented. Good comments for the server and the bartender. Other than that, this is not a place to come back again. It is a shame because with good management in the kitchen, it could turn out to be just a good restaurant. Finally, when we asked for the check, we saw that they charged half price for the burgers without saying anything. Very odd and not a good catch, quite the opposite!

The food is great! My wife had the pork sampler and raved about it. I had the salmon and it was spectacular. My mother is a vegetarian and just wanted to order sides. They were flexible with her order and presented it like an entree. The service was amazing. The bartender seemed to be watching the dining room too and sharing information with the waiter. They were right on top of every need. This is half a block from Blue Man Group. Great place to enjoy dinner before a show.

This is a neighborhood restaurant that is good for many occasions. Whether you on your way to the theater, celebrating a special occasion or just need a nice place for dinner, this place does it best. The attentive staff will be sure to make you feel welcomed. Most of the items on the menu are good. Some personal favorites are the Tomato Bisque and Pan Seared Dry Pac Scallops. Be sure to try a martini (or two) they will not disappoint.

We were seated quickly and the waiting staff were friendly. The food was good and Arrived fairly speedily. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Our waiter was wonderful. We asked for things that weren't on the menu for our picky 9 year old and he (and the chef) did everything in their power to make it happen. He suggested the chocolate lava cake for dessert and it was amazing! And we got 10% off for showing our Blue Man group tickets. Nice!

We were in Chicago for a girls weekend and were looking for a good restaurant before we went to see Blue Man Group, Jack's was close to the theater and so we decided to try it. I can not say enough good things about it, the variety of selections was impressive, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. After the show we went back to Jack's for a drink, the owner came out and started talking to us, we found he was from the same area that we were from. When we got ready to leave he called cabs for us, without us asking and went outside to wait for them and make sure we got into the cabs he had called. This is a place I would return to anytime I'm in Chicago, you can't go wrong at this restaurant.

We struggled in choosing a place to dine with decent reviews before attending Blue Man Group. This restaurant was selected because of its proximity to the theater. It was only OK, the name has recently changed to “Drews” or something like that and they seem to be still struggling to work out the kinks associated with new ownership/management. The staff was very friendly, but the experience and presentation were lacking. Hopefully they will be able to pull it together soon as I could not identify many options if you wish to park, eat and walk to Blue Man.

The two of us greatly enjoyed Saturday evening at Drew's. Excellent service and delicious food in a clean unpretentious dining room. We sat at a high top at the window to also enjoy the breeze. We shared the butternut squash ravioli and ate Steak Frites and Pork Chops for entrees. For dessert we shared the blueberry crisp. All of their desserts are homemade. The soft music contributed to what was a beautiful evening at Drew's.

I've been to Jack's many times, and always had a good time. Every time i ask for the risotto - and it's always spot on. The steaks are always excellent. the waiters are professional and cute! if you go there in the winter, however, stay away from sitting by the entrance door - it gets drafty and cold... they really should do something about it. Overall - a great place!

My sister in law and I stumbled into Jack's on our way to see the blue man group on a saturday night, (only about a block and half away)...seated quickly, great attention from the wait staff. We both ordered a specialty martini (both were excellent) and then ordered entrees off the night's specials menu. The only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was that my steak was a little tough. It was flavorful, with excellent presentation and the veggies and potatoes were amazing, though. We were rushed to make the performance, and had to leave without dessert, but the wait staff told us they were open til 1, serving food the whole time, so we came back after the performance for dessert and coffee drinks. The ambiance was lovely, white tablecloths, but not so formal that we were out of place wearing jeans and dress shirts...all in all, a real gem...we will be here again! Oh, if you go, get a table by the windows over looking Halsted...the night life scenery was very entertaining...especially the later it got!!

The decor in Jacks in quite simple, yet the clean lines and neutral colors and decor wit some splashes of red and the lush window treatments makes it elegant as well. The food is wonderful-- I am still dreaming of the butternut squash ravoli starter. The menu is very well priced, portions are actually quite large for such an establishment and the service is fantastic. It was a pleasant surprise to see the owner seating people, making and serving drinks, and being integrally involved in the restaurant on every level.; perhaps a primary reason for the success of the establishment. Jacks will see me again, quite often.

We visited Drew's on Saturday night during the big Cubs game when they won the spot into the World Series. So it was a rather raucous, fun crowd with much cheering any time a run was scored! Despite the revelry, the restaurant had a very elegant, reserved feel to it. The food was excellent - shrimp & scallop cerviche was a great started, and my beef meal was most fine. The S'more's sundae was the perfect way to end it.

To make a long story short, I made reservations through Open Table for 6 people. James followed up with me as I had requested a table in a nice location for a business meeting. The day of our reservation, two people had canceled due to flight delays. I called the restaurant and left a message and also made reservations through Open Table in case my message wasn't received. But...James called and assured me he received my message. Arrived with our group and was seated right away. Ordered drinks and some appetizers--I think beef tips, goat cheese, squash ravioli and crab cakes. They were all delicious! For our main meal, two people ordered steaks, one had scallops and I had the sea bass--again, we all cleaned our plates! We also ordered two desserts, cheesecake and Drew's S'more Sundae--we could have rolled back to our hotel! Loved the friendly atmosphere and even met Drew and James! I highly recommend trying this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Nice buzzy local eaterie. However on a Saturday night it was impossible to get table as booked but staff served me at the bar in order for me to make the show. Only able to eat main course because of time restraints so pre-show dinner not good value. Food was fine but beware which night you book the pre-dinner and show.

Decent place, it's a little too much atmosphere for the food.

Great bar & bartender, as well as customer service and our waiter were the best! 6 people all ordered different items off from the diverse menu and all LOVED their meals! Would definitely return when we are in the Chicago area!!!

Had brunch here with friends. Food was mheh, Service was terrible. Every order was messed up. Half the food we ordered didn’t show up and we had to ask again. Water glasses never refilled. Never asked if we wanted a second cocktail. For a neighborhood place one would expect a higher level of service and attentiveness.

This was a return visit a couple of years later. What a shock ! The service is a shambles and the staff untrained The publicist for the new venture was glad handing the tables Ordered a pre-dinner cocktail and it arrived after the starter - rushed to order. Was told I need not drink it, and if I did it was 'on the house'. However it was on the check The food was fine if rushed. Shame the waiter/serve lingers for conversation while the food goes cold. He wanted to chat about the gay scene along Halsted Street - I wanted to eat. The publicist reappeared and told her I was returning Christmas Day. She informed me she would be there. She also thought it 'modern' to use expletives in conversation, not at me just to spice up what she was saying I received my bill/check and on examination found that the 'on the house' cocktail was expensively so I went to the desk and my server didn't understand!! The 'manager' who had offered the free drink had disappeared. So I waited. Eventually the bill was re-rung. I decided to check my reservation for 25th that had been made a couple of months earlier by telephone. The server was confused. I said I had also discussed it with the publicist - 'oh she's gone, she's hardly ever here'. A search of the computer drew a blank. They were closed Christmas Day. Naturally there was no apology. Will I ever return ? No way What a dump - best avoided.

Great music, food was amazing, Martini's are to die for the mixed berry, grapefruit are wonderful however the frothy Lemoncello is buy far the favorite!! The staff is amaizing very polite and kind! Definitely going to have to hit Jack's for a Lemoncello the next time we're in Chicago! Best in town!!

We happened upon Jacks mostly by accident and were glad we did! Jacks is like this little gem among hundreds of Chicago Resturants. We arrived for brunch before seeing the "Blue Man Group." I must say the service was excellent and they showed they really cared about the experience the guests were having. We loved the attention. We had the sunday brunch and all of the food was lovely and presented well. Great crab cakes and the burgers were all you could expect. If your in Chicago go outta your way to try Jacks and tell them Gary sent you.. I"ve included (2) picts..

Firstly, i will start by saying we had good food here. If the chef has never dined in his/her own restaurant they should so they can see how let down they are by their front of house staff. We were shown to our table and our server introduced himself and brought our drinks and thats about all we saw of him. Our menus were still on the table when our starters arrived, our starters still there when our main course arrived and we had to ask the guy clearing another table if he could find someone to get us more drinks because our server was nowhere to be seen. When my beer arrived it was a good ten mins before my girlfriends cocktail arrived and we had about finished our meal by that time. The food was nice, but the service honestly one of the worst i have experienced and this in american where they pride themselves on service. My american girlfriend agreed too! There seemed to be staff all over the place but none of them seemed to be serving. Shame

Our group of 4 was there on a recent Friday before Blue Man Group. We all enjoyed our food. I had the Cajun penne pasta and found the flavor spot on. Nicely spicy but not overpowering. Another of our group had the Amish roasted half chicken and was still talking about it the next day. She was very sad she couldn't take the leftovers with her but our hotel room didn't have a fridge. Service seemed very good to us but we weren't in a hurry.

Excellent! My wife and I both enjoyed Drew’s very much. If we are ever in this area of Chicago again, we would return here!

We went here because it is near the Blue Man Group theater and I am so glad we did. In all my travels this is now one of my favorite places. The service was incredibly quick and friendly and accommodating. The food was incredible with a very fresh flavor and served just right. I had the soup of the day (potato bacon and leek). I like such soups and honestly this had a unique and delightful flavor. I had the Cajun pasta and it was spicy enough that I enjoyed it (I like hot and spicy) but I think it was mild enough my wife, who does not like spicy) would enjoyed it too. My wife had the NY Strip and it was one of best steaks either of us had tasted. Biggest disappointment is that we were too full for dessert. Now I have to think of a reason to come back to Chicago so I can eat here again. Highly recommend.

I like the place they had amazing toasts and pasta ! I enjoyed a quiet evening when iw as coming back from my bike! I like the boystown area and guest service I will back to this place soon.

Stopped for dinner following Blueman show. Our reservations were for 5, but we showed up around 4PM. They were most accommodating and seated us even though they were just setting up for dinner. I ordered the white fish which was served with asparagus risotto and sautéed spinach. The risotto was amazing and the fish with the spinach was absolutely fantastic. My Husband and daughter both order the Ribeye with blue cheese. The steaks were grilled to perfection and delivered exactly as ordered. Both were again absolutely wonderful. My daughter substituted and ordered the truffle fries. Another win. My daughter ordered the s'mores sundae for dessert. I got to sample this and can say it was also fantastic and I'm not even a fan of s'mores. Can't recommend this place enough. The service and food were spectacular - as was the show before!

My family and I went to Jacks Halsted on Friday, June 4, 2010 prior to seeing the Blue Man Group. We were looking for a restaraunt that was kid friendly and located near the Briars Theatre. The food was awsome. The service was great. We arrived at 5p. Our food was served and we were out by 6p. I had the scallops. If you like scallops, you will love these, seared and placed in a sauce. It was delicious!!! I would highly recommend this restaraunt to families, couples or singles.

Just what a neighborhood restaurant should be. Good food cooked as you want it. Pleasant and friendly service which is not too obtrusive. Lack of any sense of being rushed. Relaxed surroundings with plenty of space. Reasonable prices too. If I lived locally I'd be there regularly.

I had the pork tasting sampler plate (supposed to be some signature dish or something). I thought it was marginal. Pulled pork was just swimming in nondescript barbecue sauce. Pork loin (theoretically with a pineapple-ginger something) also nondescript. Ribs were OK but I didn't get any Asian flavors from them. Mashed potatoes were typical. Service was good.

We have visited Jacks several times and LOVE the food, service, atmosphere, everything. Last night I had the scallops, which were delicious. The chocolate cake and cheese cake are my favorite deserts! You cannot go wrong here!

A group of girlfriends flew into Chicago for a weekend from all over the US and Canada, and for our dinner Saturday night we chose Jack's on Halsted. As there were eleven of us, we had two staff members tending to us. Our dinner was great, the service was almost perfect (see below) and the music and atmosphere were fantastic. Right in the heart of Boystown and directly across from Spin, this location is perfect. Only two complaints: one of our group is allergic to mushrooms, which she stated to the server when she placed her order. Her pasta came to her with mushrooms included. :( Second - there are two, single-person bathrooms at the back of the restaurant. Definitely not enough to handle a busy night.

My husband and were staying in the Lakeview neighborhood recently and decided to stop at Jack's for supper on a whim. The restaurant was quiet with a nice atmosphere. Good music was playing (canned, not live), a very attentive waiter (Chase) and good street views. The food was presented beautifully and was good. We'll definitely return on our next trip.

Food was good, service was excellent, location was good, interior was nice, price was acceptable, but alas, NO ESPRESSO!

Had a great Sunday brunch at Drew's on Halsted. We were a group of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal. They have a nice Bloody Mary bar ($10.00) and $5.00 Mimosas. Good coffee too. I had a Tex Mex omelet. It was cooked perfectly with chorizo, onions, peppers and cotijo cheese. I asked for no cilantro and got no cilantro (doesn't always happen at restaurants). Came with roasted potatoes and fruit, and a choice of toast. Will go back for brunch and try it at dinner.

The feature menu for Restaurant week was very favorable. The mushroom and duck risotto was particularly memorable. For a Saturday evening, the place was very busy, but service was attentive and helpful.

We happened to see Jack's after leaving the Briar Street Theater. It was raining, and we were looking for a place for drink before our dinner reservations at a different place. We were blown away by how friendly the staff was and how they were so eager to welcome us. We enjoyed our wine, martini's, and appetizers, and they even changed the TV channel so we could watch an important college basketball game. We didn't stay for dinner, but we'd love to return to try it. The food looked great.

I was in town on vacation and made an online reservation for 1030 at night to grab some dinner after a show. I was seated immediately and I ordered as quickly as I could to not keep their kitchen staff waiting. It turns out that they asked the kitchen staff to stay open a little late JUST to ensure I was taken care of! My salmon and rice were delicious and cooked to perfection - no rush job. Great experience!

Jack's was recommended by the hotel where we were staying. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance, but with a casual atmosphere. The menu offered a variety of selections-- from meat to fish to vegetarian options. You can make reservations, but we did not and had no problem being seated immediately. Service was great as well. They also have a patio for additional seating as well.

Stopped in at Jack's for an early dinner on Saturday. We didn't have reservations but they were able to accomodate our part of 4. It was nearly empty when we arrive a little after 5 but was bustling by the time we left. Jack's has a diverse menu and all of the selections we chose were quite good. The ceviche appetizer, a special for the day, was decent, chock full of shrimp and scallops. The citrus tended to be a tad overpowering but the touch of clamato juice that was use gave it a unique flavor. Among us we had the pork tasting, free range chicken breast, carne asada, and a seafood sampler (the last three were daily specials and not on the regular menu). Service was very good to a point -- once the place got hoppin' it was a little spotty, but, we would definitely return. Two appetizers, 4 cocktails, 4 entrées, 2 desserts, & 2 coffees brought the bill to $210.

We had a delicious meal here before seeing blue man group. The food was outstanding! Great drinks, fabulous service! We will definitely be back!! Loved sitting by the window!

Recommended for its diverse food options, friendly owners/staff, seating options. Drink menu is decent, & specials r the norm.Located near other late-nite venues & within walking of the Briar St. Thtre. Also, there has been added an outdoor patio large enough for a few large groups or several couples, adding large space yet retaining the "cozy" vibe.. All in all, an "A" rated local staple catering to most groups, get-togethers, business, casual, & couples shine in this neighborhood favorite..

I have been coming here fora number of years when I visit Chicago. Last night was another return. I had a ceasar salad and scallops. I was expecting a more traditional ceasar. Theirs was a sort of deconstructed ceasar- a trimmed head of romaine topped with dressing and anchovies. I would have preferred a tossed ceasar but no complaints. The scallops were superb. I ordered the appetizer size which served as my main and it was quite substantial. They also make a fantastic martini.

My husband and myself along with another couple was celebrating our anniversary and purchased the VIP pkg for the blue man group, which included a three course meal at Drews. To make a long story short, we were rushing to leave Drews in order to make it to the blueman group so we just paid the check. Upon reviewing the check later that evening we noticed that even though we were at Drews durnig happy hour where appetizers were 1/2 off, we had ordered 4. We were charged full price along with other items we should not have been charged for. I called the very next day and spoke to the owner Drew, he promised to call me back the next day and right the wrong. Im still waiting for his call. Food was good, but so sad that they ripped me off. Buyer beware. Needless to say i want to warn all to make sure you check your receipt before leaving.

Went for the first time with friends for dinner before Blue Man Group on a Thursday night. Service was perfect, food was out of this world. Meats and fish all cooked perfectly with amazing sauces and accompaniments. Great attention to detail and very creative menu. Waiters were funny and helpful, great experience all around. We'll definitely be back.

Enjoyed dinner at this Zagat reviewed restaurant. Seated with no hesitation. Waiter was Michael. He is a Superb waiter. This restaurant's food is matched by its service! Enjoyed appetizers, lovely 'Pear' wine... the entre was devine. Two types of fish on the plate. It was as though Michael stood in one spot and had the chef fire it all at his command. Of course he didn't.. we saw his elegant service with other patrons besides us. However each of his tables were given attention as though he was exclusively theirs/ours for the evening. We split a Creme Brulee. It was Fabulous!! We will go back to this fine restaurant when we return to Chicago. I highly recommend this establishment to persons wishing a wonderful experience.

My wife and I have visited on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently very good and the service depends on how busy the restaurant is at the time. We especially like their Brunch and the drink specials which varies by season. Outdoor area is fenced in but you still hear a lot of street noise since the turn around for several buses is adjacent to the outdoor dining area.

Love this corner restaurant on Belmont & Halsted. Great good with recipe that are unique! Good martini.

This was our second visit since the name change and as always the food was very good and the service was very friendly and efficient. Great wine selection and deserts too.

Located on the corner of Halsted an Belmont, Jack's is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and a great place to bring friends and guests. I have NEVER tasted any dish that I didn't like and the martini's are amazing!

Wanted to check out this place. It wasn't busy when we stopped by (Sunday). The staff was friendly. They have a nice selection of cocktails and beer. The food was tasty, good portions, and not too pricey. Highly recommend this place.

Being my first time in Chicago the UBER driver suggested this place. All I can say is this place did not disappoint!

If you are going to Blue Man Group? This is a great restaurant that is close by the Briar Street Theater. We had their burger and salad. Pretty darn good. There upscale dishes look pretty good.

Great place, we were very welcomed by the lovely waiter who looked after us. Food was nice, but what made the night was the atmosphere and ambience. It was snowing outside, we had a window table and the place was lovely. The food/menu was nice, nothing outstanding, however everything else made up for it.

Always good, pleasant atmosphere. Nice for weekend brunch also.

My friends and I dined here last night before we attended the Blue Man Group at the Briar Street Theater. The restaurant has a nice, upscale neighborhood feel. The service was excellent! My pear salad was outstanding, with a delicious dressing! Although the pork chop was a little dry, the flavor was very nice. The sweet potatoes were perhaps a bit too sweet, but the brussels sprouts were great ... not over-cooked and very flavorful. My white chocolate bread pudding with caramel sauce was terrific! It is a very short walk to the Briar Street Theater.

We chose Jack's as a place for Thanksgiving Dinner away from home. One daughter had just moved to a small apartment in Chicago. I flew in from Florida, and another daughter flew in from New York. One of us needed gluten free items. Another was a vegetarian. At the same time, we wanted traditional Thanksgiving food in a warm festive atmosphere and a comfortable place to sit and catch up with one another. We got all that and more, especially service that was thoughtful and attentive, friendly but never intrusive. We never felt rushed, and we enjoyed every moment. The food was plentiful, imaginative, beautifully presented, and delicious. The place was cozy, but pretty, with elbow room. The prices were reasonable.

Extensive menu, good food, good service,my type of restaurant. The Fillet Mignon was perfection and complimented by the Rioja.

Went out to dinner before Pearl Jam show at Wrigley Field. The hostess sat us early when we arrived a bit before our reservation. We had the best table, right on the corner. Our service was fantastic (including a replaced martini when I spilled the first one). Dinner entrees from my party included the pork chop (the sweet potatoes were fantastic), roasted chicken, strip steak, and hangar steak. I really enjoyed our creme brulee for dessert. Great restaurant!

10/5. One word: ROB!!! Rob is amazing. I had a work event with some co workers and clients I have been trying to get together for months. It’s hard finding accommodations in the neighborhood without having to buy a drink package or minimum spend. Rob went above and beyond getting us the entire patio to ourselves and the service was impeccable. We stayed there for hours!! The food and drinks were flowing, the weather was perfect, the vibes and atmosphere were so unique. The patio is an amazing hidden gem. Rob should own the place, in our opinion. Everyone loves him. Thank you, again, Rob. I messed up some math on the bill (after too much Prosecco) and he was very helpful with fixing for me. We love Drew’s (aka Rob’s)! See you again, soon!

We took our 7 year old grandson to see the 500 show of Blue Man Group . The restaurant was perfect for a late lunch/early dinner. The salads are amazing and my gs had a perfectly grilled NY strip. Highly recommend the French fries. Would have rated a 5 but service of refills, desserts etc were very slow in coming.

Enjoyed this restaurant with my companion before heading to see Blue Man Group, which is less than a two-minute walk down the street. We had reservations on a Saturday night for 6:15 p.m. and it filled up quickly. Service was efficient and friendly, except at the end where we had to ask the hostess to track down our check so we could head to the show. I had the $36 pan seared medium rare Ahi tuna steak. It was a bit on the dry side and could have used sauce to give it some flavor. The accompanying risotto was excellent. My companion ordered the $27 NY strip steak frites. She said it was excellent. I also tried her Parmesan truffle fries. They were to die for. I could have ordered those for dessert. Did I mention the fries were awesome? She thoroughly enjoyed her clam chowder (New England style), but it wasn't overwhelmingly heavy like some can be. My Cesar salad was excellent as well. The large anchovies and Parmesan shavings with a balsamic dress was great. Dinner, salad, soup with three drinks was $124. My tuna entree is what held it back from four stars. I will be back in the future.

I dined here on a recommendation from friends in Chicago with a companion while on a visit. It was quite a pleasure for us to be introduced to Jack's. The location and atmosphere are perfect. In particular, I loved the large windows overlooking a corner. The menu was imaginative with an interesting array of choices. We mainly had creative variants of Italian dishes that we loved. We were with a regular customer, so that may have influenced the wonderful treatment we received. Whatever the reason for it, the personalized service was much appreciated.

Got there early for dinner (pre-show). Bar service was very slow although there were only two of us at the bar initially. Seated with group of 8, so this is a challenge, but it took a long time to get our order and some details were missed on delivery of food. Food was generally quite good, from fish to other entrees to appetizers to salads. Interesting salad choices.

We went there for our first night’s dinner in Chicago. We enjoyed our apps: butternut squash Ravioli and bbq chicken pizza. The bread under the toppings was a Littie bland but overall very good. My Cajun pasta was delish and my friend Loved her red and white quinoa salad. Rob was a great server: attentive and friendly. A singer with a very good voice sang some popular favorites, but it didn’t interfere with conversation. I would definitely go back if I lived here.

Was visiting an ol' High School friend in Chicago and had plans to catch a performance of The Blue Man Group just a short way from the Drake Hotel...on a Friday evening, no less! A dinner/show package was available and we gladly added it to our itinerary. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 6:30 PM reservations. Having picked up the tickets at the theater minutes earlier, the coupon for dinner somehow became misplaced but we were credited for 50% off our meal when we presented the actual tickets to the performance. The is a three course, multi-choice, fixed rate dinner as part of the package. Although there are less choices, they are equal to...if not more appealing than...the choices on the regular menu. My friend chose the Salmon while I had Bowtie pasta. The Pinot Grigio was at the right level of 'dry' and we each had a couple glasses. Bread Pudding with creamy vanilla ice cream was one of the desert choices. Could not have been more delicious and a perfect 'fit' for the entrees. Will plan to return to this area on a future visit to Chicago. Although it is on the North Side, it is not that difficult to reach from Water Tower or even South from Adams. An Uber can have you there in 'minutes'.

This wasn't my first time at Jack's and certainly not the last. On this short 12-day visit I went there twice. As noted earlier, I'm a man of habits, so every time I order the same thing, I had two appetizers which make a up a whole, full (!) meal. I ordered the chacruterie and the duck risotto. The risotto has to best I've ever tasted at any restaurant I've been to in my world travels. it's really outstanding. their pomegranate martini is also very good... enjoy! The atmosphere is great and the staff very friendly ;-)

We were in Chicago and decided to visit Jacks. We had read the reviews in trip advisor and took a chance. Our group started woth appetizers and drinks (martini's) .We opted for the dinner special. The choices were fish or meat or chicken. I nad the fish which was excellent. The experience was well worth the cab ride from our hotel. I would return to this resturant in a heartbeat.

We stopped here before going to the Briar Street Theatre. Food was very good and the price was fair. The service was a bit slow but all in all I would definitely recommend it.

We ate here while in Chicago and it was probably my least favorite. Our server was friendly and we had fast service. We just weren't impressed with the food for the price. It is close to the Blue Man Group theatre and convenient to shopping and the train. Maybe it was just our choices that weren't impressive.

Stopped in on a whim and had the shrimp and scallop ceviche. It was delicious and is perfect for any dining on the patio. The duck confit entree was fall off the bone delicious. And Hakim, our server was a great guy and a lot of fun to talk with. I definitely think this is one of the better spots in the Boystown/Lakeview area for sure.

I always forget about how wonderful the food and service is at Jack's. The flavors are terrific and everyone is super friendly.

A beautiful restaurant and the service was outstanding. The problem is the food is bland and unexciting. Cajun pasta had no real flavour at all. Salad dressings were dull. Tuna tartare appetizer was good. I don't know if it's Midwestern tastes, but I, personally need food to have more flavour and zest.

My friend and Were visiting Chicago and wanted one last night out at a very well-reviewed restaurant in Boystown. Drew's is a very attractive setting and has a wonderful staff. Our server, Kara, was beyond exceptional. Engaging, supportive and informative. She is a keeper. My friend ordered the scallops on the "Special" list and was delighted. He told me that he often ordered scallops but many times was disappointed. He was not that night - he raved about them. I ordered filet mignon and sadly was disappointed. The meat was properly cooked (okay maybe a touch too much, but just a touch) but the overall taste of the dish was rather bland. I don't know whether to call it the juices or a sauce that accompanied the filet but I can say that it was "meh". I was very disappointed. But, the sides accompanying the filet were exceptional. Perhaps a nice merlot sauce?

Drew welcomed us like family! Great atmosphere. Wonderful bar. The “girls just want to have rum” is a delicious drink. We had the charcuterie board and one of each burger. The food is exceptional. Don’t miss out on the truffle fries. Highly recommend.

We treated our 10 year old Granddaughter to dinner prior to Blue Man Group. Delightful dining at a window table with fun people watching while enjoying delicious food. She loved the tuna tartare, her pasta and especially the molten chocolate cake.

This place is a hidden gem. Its on the corner of halsted and belmont at the southern edge of boystown. We stumbled across the place walking along halsted. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. There is a lovely little bar and lounge on one side with a larger than expected dining room on the other. The place is decorated in a delightful contemporary casual style. Service is wonderful, warm and friendly. The atmosphere is quiet, relaxing, and charming. The menu is a wonderful mix of unique variations on fairly traditional foods. Portion size is good, not too much and not too little. The food itself was wonderful with a variety of flavors and unexpected combinations that delight the palatte with familiar flavors in adventurous combinations (such as one dish that featured scallops with cocoa flavoring....yum!!). The pricing is moderate with entrees from 12-30 dollars, but overall for the quality of the food and the warmth and charm of the place, and the friendly top notch service the value was excellent.

Our best dining experience for our first trip to Chicago this past weekend... Like another reviewer, the scallops in the cocoa truffle sauce are recommended!!!

We chanced upon this place after watching the Blue Man Group. Not too many people on a Sunday evening. We had the Arugula and Prosciutto Pizza for starters and that was good. I ordered the Halsted Street Burger (Canadian Bacon, Maytag Bleu Cheese, Arugula, Mardi Gras Slaw) which I had with Parmesan Truffle Fries. Burger was Certified Black Angus 10 oz on a Brioche Bun. The burger was excellent! The pork chop, though, was unexciting.

Had Sunday brunch. Excellent large ceasar salad, good Kale salad and the OK grilled cheese(expensive with bacon should have been better)should have butter on outside toasted portion of bread, instead it was just dry...ugh. VERY loud with restaurant 2/3 full. Service was distracted and slow through whole meal. Food and service, in general, is usually good here..will try one more time.

Jack's, which is at some point going to change it's name to Drew's, serves very good food and drinks. The ambiance has some charm while still being casual. (They mentioned they are planning additional upgrades especially to the outdoor portion.) Three of us enjoyed selections from the extensive martini selection or other mixed drinks. Additionally the restaurant offers some good, well chosen wines by the glass. Alcoholic beverages, including the wines, are a bargain. For dinner we selected a number of small plates and weren't able to eat all the food. Especially good were the crab cakes, the tuna tartare, and the evening's special risotto. Deserts taste home made and delicious. We had advised that we needed to be a couple of blocks away at a specific time and the kitchen and staff did an excellent job in pacing our food and drinks so that we were on time. Will definitely return!

The food is not bad here. If they paid a bit more attention to the details it would be much better. Drew, should pay more attention to greeting his guests and making sure they are happy. Also, he should tell his staff to stop gathering, talking and playing on there phones and pay more attention to the guests. A hello and a thank you goes along way. Anyone can take and order and deliver drinks/food. I think I need to give this place some time before I return. Sorry!

apparently this is a long established anchor of the community, but being new(ish) in town we had not tried it. But seeking a grown up dinner before a show at The Vic it came up in search and I am so glad we found it. The room is lovely with seating to watch the street parade, and other seats in a quieter back room. The bar appeared comfy but as it was early we did not stop there for refreshment. The Menu was innovative and all of our items were executed quite well. There were too many choices so we will be back. The wine list of varied and I enjoyed trying a few things that were outside of my experience. They were great, but at the price I would not have minded if they were just ok. Last comment on the service, which was above expectations. Everyone present seemed to truly value all of the customers.

Recommended by TimeLine theatre, where we saw a wonderful Irish play, Pitman Painters, Jack's turned out to be a real delight. The waiter literally went down on his knees to take our orders! Food and drink were delicious and beautifully presented. The Halsted/Belmont neighborhood is truly eclectic, so just watching the people both inside and outside the restaurant was like being in a play. It is close to public transportation, which is great if you don't want the hassle of parking.

They have a variety of well crafted meals that only a fine chef could execute! The staff has always been attentive and polite. The choices of wine's are top notch, so is the selections of cocktails.

We were told about this gem by some friends, and we ate prior to going to a show. The service was fantastic, the menu and food are very good. The owner came over to chat and explain that the restaurant has a new name, but it's the same owner minus a partner. I highly recommend this place.

A friend and I shared an excellent dinner at this small, local restaurant. She is a vegetarian, but eats fish. I ate steak with bleu cheese. Very nicely plated, perfectly cooked. She also is a martini drinker and pronounced theirs "perfect." Service was attentive, but unobtrusive. A perfect place to go to talk and have wonderful food. A very happy experience, and, for me, unexpected in a neighborhood restaurant.

While have dined here many times and this is the first time this restaurant failed to reach my expectations. The servers were friendly and charming, there were not enough of them on duty...and the retaurant was only half full. Having to wait 15 minutes to be approached by our waiter to take our order and ten minutes to bring our wine did not leave a pleasant taste in our mouths. What some managers have not come to understand is the overall quality of the experience is proportional to the quality of service. In an effort to service the diners, here the server makes an appearance to take your order, stops by to see how it was and then gives your the check; all the other work is provided by the second string of floor people who can't seem to figure it out. How can a runner get to a table with two dinners and then have to ask the guests who has what? How sad our experience was after having several positive past visits. That is why we came back afterall.

Had just arrive in town for a few days getaway. Great spot for sitting and watching people along Halsted. Great drinks and a varied wine list. Dinner was fresh and came quickly. Staff was friendly and took care of our needs. Great place to eat, drink and relax before hitting the nightlife.

Had dinner here solo on a Monday night. Place was pretty quiet but service was excellent. Had a Caesar salad which was grilled and excellent. Also had the Chicken Quesadilla which was made with smaller thicker pita type bread with mushroom, very good

We figured we could easily find food by the theater but that was not the case. Jack's on Halstead was best bet so we went there. Told them we were short on time due to show. There were super quick! We got the Argentina steak with chimmicuri sauce. Steak was yummy and super tender. The serving size was ample for 2 people. Service was great and friendly, price was right!

Ate here with my wife on a Monday night at 6 pm. We had reservations but only two others were there. However within a half hour the place got busy. Best dirty martini I have ever had. Wife and I had three course meal for $29 per person. Got appetizer, entree, and dessert. All very good. Excellent service, waiter and server very attentive but not pushy. Very nice dinner and very close to where blue man group plays.
Service was lacking
I was at Jack's this past weekend to attend a birthday party for a friend. When I arrived I told the hostess the name of the birthday person, and she basically just motioned toward the bar and said something like :"They are beginning to congregate over there". No smile, no hello, just a very sour attitude. My next interaction was with the bartender to order my drink, again delivered with no smile, no warmth, nothing. Thank goodness our waiter was better, more friendly, but even his service fell short since at the end when we had the cake he never came around to ask if any of us wanted coffee. We had a group of about 15 and the food was good, but the sour service really turned me off. When I pay $70.00 for dinner I expect better. I won't be going back anytime soon.
