Great food, informal atmosphere

By PeaceSeeker54 |

You will be surprised to find that there is only a counter to sit at, which is usually elbow-to-elbow in this popular restaurant, It is noisy and jovial, with very good food.

A gem of a seafood place in the San Antonio medical district

By mealj123 |

So, we accidentally discovered this place while visiting family in the hospital. Just a short distance from the medical center, this place is great. The raw oysters were the best I have had in along time. The wife had the fried oysters. They came with fries and hush puppies. She added the corn on the cob. The food was delicious. Couple that with the 25 Oz. Beer during happy hour and it was quite the enjoyable lunch. During the week they have daily lunch specials and these are also available on the weekend for I believe a 2 dollar up charge. The service was also tremendous. I can’t say enough good about this place, and guarantee you we will visit again.

Great Shrimp

By Robert G |

What you see is what you get.....nothing special about the décor, but you can count on some of the best fried shrimp in San Antonio. Especially on Tuesday and Thursday when they have all you can eat. The beer is always cold and the service is friendly. The oysters are strait from the gulf and very reasonably priced.

This is a great oyster bar! The butterfly shrimp, oysters on the half shell and fried oysters were great !!!!! Very busy because it's good and fun! Sit at the bar and enjoy the company. It's not a fast food place, and it's not fancy. We'll be back! Oh.....but the crawfish bisque wasn't very good. Otherwise....enjoy!

Laid Back Atmosphere - Great Shrimp Night

By Diver_Walt |

Great atmosphere on Tuesday and Thursday nights for their all-you-can-eat shrimp (boiled or fried). The beer is cold and the shrimp are decent sized for the price. Pull up a stool and hang out for awhile and devour some shrimp. The rest of the menu leaves something to be desired as most is fried. The crawfish are really good right now though!!

Great Food, Awful Service

By HappyPenny |

The good news: delicious seafood at Dry Dock. Amazing all-you-can-eat shrimp deal on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The fried shrimp are perfectly prepared and succulently seasoned. I will return to Dry Dock for these wonderful shrimp. The bad news: service could not have been slower. Our very simple meal took over two hours, because the overworked waiter hardly ever came around. I have to say, this is the longest period of time I have EVER sat in a restaurant - waiting, waiting, waiting. More bad news - the interior of the restaurant is not particularly pleasant. There is a strange, unpleasant odor which I found really offensive. And the design of the whole restaurant is just too crowded, especially the central counter in the main dining room. However, we might have actually gotten better service at the counter than we did in the back room. Soooo....if you like shrimp enough to overlook these negatives, you'll probably enjoy a trip to Dry Dock. If you're in a hurry or want a nice atmosphere, you'd be better off eating somewhere else.

Don't Let The Picture Fool You!!!

This was our second trip and for sure our last!! I work in a office just around the corner and we thought we would try it out one more time! Gave the place a chance thinking maybe different cook or something. Today I tried the Friday special. It was the worst ever :( 2fish, 3shrimp, hushpuppies, and fries. It's one fish fillet split down the middle and called two with really dry gritty breading. The shrimp was okay but nothing to brag about. The "out of this world hushpuppies" don't think so!!! They were small, dry, and very little flavor. The fries were just fries, nothing special and smaller portion than a kids fries at Mc D's. Not worth the price at all!!!! If you are only going to drink it may be worth it? I wont be going back to find out. Oh, and staff was friendly once they came! we got there at 1:00 and weren't given menus till 1:20. Then we waited for another half hour for our check after we asked for it. It wasn't busy and they appeared to be staffed well so I'm not sure what the hold up was? 2 waiters and 5 tables with small groups seated, hmmmm can anyone say riding the clock or "smoke" brake :) Try for yourself! Everyone has a different opinion. LOL, some people prefer over priced crap for lunch...

Ignored

By JM |

I’ve been going here on and off for years. I came in with my young daughter a little before 8:00 pm Friday night. It was busy, but not packed. Several tables were open. No one greeted us, so I asked an employee if we could seat ourselves. On my way to a table, I encountered a waitress (young, thin, tattoos, dark wavy hair). She clearly saw the part of the restaurant we’d seated ourselves in. About ten minutes after coming in, another group sat themselves near our table. By this time, I could see other tables had been served multiple times. After about another five minutes (now 15 minutes without being acknowledged at all) the same waitress came by, took the nearby table’s orders and left. We were completely ignored. We were sitting about 6 feet away, so there’s no way she didn’t see us. I got up and left with my daughter. On the way out, I let two employees know what happened. I pretty much got shrugs from them.

Great traditional dark gumbo

By Chris H |

The gumbo is dark rue with traditional taste very good highly recommend. Lots of choice. Many fish dishes. Very good crawfish in raw oysters.

FRESH taste Highly recommend=!!

By Cback093 |

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was very Good~ My family had soup, crawfish, and oyster and we liked them all. We ordered sandwiches too, but we were too full by then...Also it was interesting to see the building shaped as real SHIP. Nice and clean. This restaurant became one of my favorite:)

Hush Puppies are OUT OF THIS WORLD

By dorko135 |

Best hush puppies I have EVER tried. Hands down. The staff was really down to earth and there to make the customers happy. We went during rush hour, so the servers were a little backed up, but they were on it with drink service. They have all you can eat shrimp (fried and/or cajun cocktail) on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a really reasonable price. I'm not big of spicy, so I stuck to the fried shrimp. According to my friends, the boudin is definitely worth a try along with the oyster po' boy. This is a great place to hang out with friends on the patio and throw back some beers. Give it a try!

Excellent food, service on point

By 557louiss |

Came for a birthday party with around 30 people yesterday. This place made was just cool from the moment we drive in. It's a seafood place shaped like a boat in the middle of the city. The beer is cold. The food looks and tastes fantastic. The service is fun and unique. We were really taken care of. We never had to wait for anything. The drinks were all full the entire time. They never rushed us. Would definitely consider coming back again and again. May have just found our new fave oyster dive. Speaking of oysters, our first round was only $12.99 a dozen because we got there before 7pm!!!! Then the others were only $2 more. I have paid double that recently for other places around town and the quality of the oysters were not even half as good.

Dry Dock: Great Tasting All You Can Eat Shrimp!

By MoDa0206 |

Yesterday was our second visit to Dry Dock. We were there for an after work birthday party. This is not a high-class business; in full disclosure this place is a big time dive. However, our waiters provided outstanding, prompt and professional service. The service was so above board that I wondered why would such service exist in such a place. Luckily, On Tuesday and Thursday’s Dry Dock offers all-you-can-eat shrimp. After an explanation from the server, everyone one in our party ordered this meal deal. The meal alternates between peel your own shrimp and fried butterfly shrimp. Most of us went through three plates. I went through one peel and two fried plates. Dry Dock has their own batter seasoning. It is very, very light. Unlike most other stores the sell fried shrimp with that thick brown batter factory, Dry Dock batter is ultra thin. You can actually see the skin of the shrimp under the batter. Though it got crowded midway through our meal, they never rushed us. If you need to eat in a pleasant venue (like a date) Dry Dock is not for you. Like I said above, this place is a dive, an oyster bar, a bar, an informal after work atmosphere for the locals. If you want great tasting all-you-can-eat shrimp this is the place for you.

great oysters and that's about it

By Jeff W |

If you want a place for cheap beer and oysters this is it. The service sucks. The other seafood is marginal at best. But a really good place to get drunk and eat oysters!

Shuck It! Suck It! Eat It Raw!

By OmniEpicurean |

Reminiscent of any small coastal town with a no frills restaurant that serves the locals, Dry Dock is the working man's choice that gets down to the business of shucking and frying with the smells to go with it. The shoulders of the parking lot are filled with oyster shells and the eating business end of the building looks like a half sunk sightseeing scow due to its bow shaped boat end and large plate glass windows. There is a patio, but everyone seems to gravitate to the u-shaped bar with stools that occupies most off the available central space. The draft beer flows in plenty big mugs to wash down a dozen cold oysters or two. The bivalves were cold as the ocean depths and the fried the shrimp were decent at a 16 to 18 count, but lacked any spice in the batter to really make them a goto favorite.. Watch the "bartender" as he shucks oysters right in front of you and smell your menu choice as it is fried in the kitchen immediately adjacent to the bar in the stern of the "boat"... Check for beer and seafood specials on different days of the week. This is a no frills place when all you want to do is shuck it, suck it and eat 'til your full with moderate prices that will help you do just that. Cole slaw was unremarkable and If you are a hush puppy fan, the golden brown little orbs of corn meal will bring tears to your eyes. Not because they are so good, but that they are the size of marbles and overcooked to boot. That's the only item that we would throw back in the otherwise decent food catch, preparation and delivery..

Great Seafood

By Mariposa1020 |

I originally went to Sea Island Shrimp House but did not find anything that appealed to me on their menu so I headed to Dry Dock on the Hostess's recommendation. I had their Tuna Steak and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked with a nice veggie medley and rice pilaf. I would definately go again!

Good Seafood in San Antonio

By Steven O. Sellers |

Good seafood and an informal atmosphere. Dry Dock is a restaurant that looks like a boat parked in a mini mall parking lot. Inside there is a big, wrap-around bar that makes it fun for visiting and dining. There is also a dining room in the back and a patio. There is no better place to sit and enjoy a dozen oysters on the half shell. Ther service is attentive, but not overly cutesy. One thing I appreciate is that this is NOT a chain seafood restaurant. For lunch, there are affordable specials, and if you like fried seafood, you may like the Friday Special which you can get any day of the week for $7.99. That's 2 fish fillets and 3 shrimp. Today, my dozen oysters was about $18. The deeper you get into the menu, and at dinner, things get more expensive, such as a 6oz chicken breast for $18.95, Shrimp Kabob $18.95 and a 6oz steak with a lobster tail for $32.95 Dry Dock offers beer and wine, a kid's menu, and a couple dessert choices.

local favorite???

By ZoomZoomUSA |

Great seafood find in this area of San Antonio. My extended stay has led me here a number of times already. It seems like a local favorite. The entrance is into the bar area; just seat yourself inside or out & the staff is quick to greet you. Daily lunch specials can be ordered any day of the week (during lunch times of coarse), just ask. The menu can be viewed on their website; my personal favorite is the crawfish etoufee'. Evenings, especially weekend nights, get crowded as the place is not huge, just moderately sized. It's cool to eat, drink, and socialize here. I like it.

Seafood and cold beer

By mudfoot |

The oysters were delicious, both raw and fried. Boiled and fried shrimp as well. Little early in the season for crawfish, and they were small and soft-not great. Gumbo not great either. Service is firendly and helpful and the beer is cold with a decent draft selection.

good food make you happy

delicious food make you happy, gumbo soup was tasty and well done, season craw fish was so fresh, shrimp po' boy sandwich was great for lunch

Disappointing

By Robert F |

Finally I got to come to this restaurant, which enjoys a rather conspicuous location at the intersection of two main streets. It specializes in seafood, which I love. The interior of the building is long and narrow like a ship, which is intentional. There is a very long bar, hence the name. I think a place that claims extra expertise in a certain cuisine should be held to a higher standard. In this case, it's seafood. The food was fine, but not noticeably better than I have had elsewhere. The three stars, however, result from the disastrous service. Every restaurant has a bad day, where they are short handed or things just don’t go well. Ours involved a long wait for the fourth member of our party to be served, after three of us got our dishes. Three of us finished our dishes. People at adjacent tables who came long after us received their dishes. When we asked the waiter when the fourth dish was coming (which was identical to two that we had already received) he showed irritation. Finally, he brought a dozen oysters. Well, that’s a nice gesture, we thought, in return for waiting so long. But the main dish never came. We gave up and asked for the bill. The oysters were included. It turns out the waiter thought we had ordered them. Which means someone else didn’t receive their oysters. So, shaky service, average ambiance, pretty good food, not likely to return. It reminds me of a restaurant that was once a big deal, and has slid into decline, resting on outdated laurels. Bummer.

Super lunch spot!

The restaurant has a boat-like bow built onto the front--can't miss it. The place is basically a short order place with great fried seafood, especially poboys. Try the shrimp poboy, you can't go wrong. Great spot for beer after work also.

Beer and Fried Food

By Eric M |

This place is in a building in the shape of a boat so my wife refused to go there for the longest time. But, one Tuesday I got her to try the all you can eat shrimp to break the ice. We went a couple of times after that to have drinks with coworkers, but we never really ate here again. Its has a pretty standard coastal dive bar feel with predictable faire. Fried this and boiled that. Its worth a try during Happy Hour or all you can eat shrimp, but not for much else.

Great Homey And Fun

By Hahncho |

Service provided was excellent--attentive and complete. Oysters are the mainstay and what I always order. They are shucked and served to perfection. If you don't like draft Shiner, they have other beers as well but Shiner, for me, is the best beer in Texas and elsewhere.

Fishy dive bar, in a good way

By OldGuyWanderz |

Dry Dock was good enough that we were here two nights in a row. Great wait staff service at the bar, which is the focal point. Gumbo is better than the seafood chowder, which itself was very good. Fisherman's platter includes fried catfish, shrimp, oysters and frog legs. (You had me at frog legs!) Second night I had the redfish - broiled. Lime pie was good too.

Near Medical hospitals

By chandsl21 |

Can't say how many times we have driven past this place and have never stopped there to eat. We finally ate there recently and enjoyed it very much. I had a shrimp salad and shrimp that also came with fries and hush puppies. The shrimp salad had quite a few shrimp in it and it had good flavor. My husband got the fish and shrimp plate, he said it was good too. The restaurant is divided up into three sections, a dining area in the back, an outside seating area, and a horseshoe bar that you can sit on a stool around the bar area. We sat outside and it was a beautiful kind of day for it. Moderately priced with a good sized variety of items on the menu. We look forward to returning to try the quail on our visit to the doctor.

Gumbo

By Karen O |

The gumbo is made with a dark roux and has just the right amount of cayenne. A nice slow build up. If it starts getting too hot eat some crackers with lots of butter. Or drink some milk. The place a neighborhood hangout vibe. Sat at the horseshoe bar and watched the guy shuck oysters. Not fancy, but had a great lunch - @ $15.

Great little oyster bar and seafood spot

By jborozco |

Has a "hole in the wall" feeling. The place is shaped like a boat and has a bar spanning the entire front. Kind of a cool, kitschy, feeling. The food was amazing. In a huge fan of raw oysters, and Dry Dock did not dissapointed with delicious, perfect shucked (no shells!) oysters. I also had a fried oyster po boy. It only had 5-6 oysters on a very large bun when it came out and I though to myself that it might be too "bready." But nope, it was a great balance of bread, rich creamy oyster, fresh crisp tomato, and lettuce. Also, the cocktail sauce was fantastic. And prices are fair and try have happy hours and specials all the times. The guy told me that from 11-2 they have half price sandwiches ($6.99 normally) and they come with a free cup of gumbo. In sold!

Go here all of the time!

By Susan M |

I just love the Dry Dock Oyster Bar. The restaurant is shaped like a huge boat with a wood dock entrance. Also wood dock on opposite side for outdoor eating. Oyster half shells grace the front of the boat. When you walk in the front door there is a huge bar that wraps around the kitchen/serving area. We have NEVER walked in with out being greeting by the happy crew that mans this boat. When we go for lunch, we sit at the bar and if it isn't too hot, we sit outside for dinner. Beer and wine are served as well as a huge variety of seafood. http://drydocktexas.com They also have hamburgers etc. There is a lunch menu for each day of the week but you can order any of the days and they will honor it. : ) Our favorite is the "Tuesday" special which is the shrimp salad scooped on lettuce leaf and three golden fried shrimp with french fries and hushpuppies $6.99. The grouper is great for a dinner selection with a glass of wine. Oysters on the half shell are fresh (I watch the crew shuck these constantly!) and are on special during happy hour. As a local, this is our favorite place to go when we want seafood, good service and friendly faces. We also always take out of town guests to the Dry Dock. It is that different from other restaurants. Waitstaff is superb!

Amazing Oysters

By DSorensen |

Oysters were in from Galveston, and man were they large and fresh! Being from South Dakota, we do not get access to fresh oysters near often enough. So when we are somewhere we can get them, we practice gluttony. These oysters were shucked beyond exception, fresh, and LARGE. Did I mention they were large? And the price was great. They were so good we visited here twice in a 5 day stay!

Oysters on the Half Shell

By tejasfox |

If you're looking for fresh shucked gulf oysters this is the place. Sit at the bar, drink a few frosty schooners. Gumbo is also good. Rest of the seafood is okay.

Always good oysters and seafood gumbo!

By townec |

We always just sit at the u-shaped bar. Our favorites rae the seafood gumbo, oysters on the half-shell ad oyster po'boys. Beer is psorta cold but a great accompaniment to the meal. Service is basic, friendly yet not hovering. Go for the food and not the ambiance.

Not Just Oysters

By Thomas S |

Come hungry on a Tuesday or Thursday night (3:00 PM - 10:00 PM) and enjoy the all you can eat shrimp, either boiled and/or fried for $16.95 per person. Plenty of other menu options for those that can't put away a lot of shrimp including some items that are seasonal and not on the menu (make sure you ask the waiter about those). Arrived at 6 pm with a party of 9 and thankfully had a table reservation (there is only one table/area inside that can accommodate that many. Once seated, we ordered and the waiter gave us constant attention to keep the bowls of shrimp and drinks full. My only regret is that I waited until my final order of shrimp to try the fried shrimp. OMG they were delicious - not too much batter and all were a good size.

The best seafood around!!

By AidaTexas |

This place is AMAZING!!!! Everything was prepared perfectly. The wait was short. Our waitress, Kathleen, was spot on. All you can eat fish and shrimp on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $23. Over 65 price is only $13!! You cannot beat this place!! Great food and great prices!!

Looks better than it is

By RTL7986 |

Don't let the facade fool you! My wife and I are new in town and saw this cute seafood spot. We figured it was going to be good but were skeptical once we walked in and saw that all they have inside is a bar that wraps around the restaurant. There is seating outside as well, but it was chilly out. I got the grilled Cajun shrimp and my wife got the fried shrimp. Here is a breakdown of our dishes: The Cajun shrimp cost 13.99 and included 7 shrimp, an ice cream scoop of rice, 4 boiled broccoli pieces and 4 boiled zucchini slices. The rice had a weird plasticky taste so I didn't eat it, the veggies were rubbery and the shrimp were large but not seasoned very well. The most I would expect to pay for a dish like what I got would be 6~7 dollars. The fried dish plate cost 12.99 and included 8 fried shrimp, French fries and two hush puppies. My wife said the shrimp were under seasoned and bland, the fries tasted like fish oil and the hush puppies were decent. Overall, I give the food a two, the layout a one and the service a three.

Run of the mill

By Sataviolet |

Fine for a quick in and out lunch. Nothing special at all. Just fast lunch food! Lots of fried foods, nothing special.

So sorry I went here.

By concanlover |

The food was inedible, a little pricey and I won't ever darken their door again. Very disappointed.

Great seafood @reasonable price

By 557louiss |

We came expecting it to be meh... It's a dive, no doubt. It's in a building shaped like a boat. It's nostalgic and pretty cool. The food is fantastic and the service was on point. The beer was $3.99 for a 25 ounce and was ice cold. The whole catfish (bone and all) was cooked to perfection. The hush puppies were good. The fries were lacking salt but they were hot when they came out so I just put my own and fixed them right up. Just overall a great experience.

A great place!

By Capt_Wyatt |

This fish, shrimp and oyster house is a San Antonio icon. For decades it has produced fresh and tasty seafood in a simple and clean setting. Their gumbo is the best in town...no frills, just right with a perfect roux. I love the poboys which are perfect!

Dry Dock is great for seafood

By longhornrx |

I go here a lot, good choice of cold draft beer, all you can eat boiled and fried shrimp on Tuesday and Thursday after 3pm. I have tried other dishes and they were good also. The raw oysters are particularly good. The only downside is the prices, the all you can eat shrimp is now $18.99, this is not an inexpensive place but worth it.

Should have believed reviews

By William J |

Should have trusted reviews. Had new waitress and she’d try harder. NOT. Ordered the special of flounder with creole oyster and shrimp sauce. Came out without sauce and rest of family finished with their dinner before I ever got mine. Place maybe ok if you stick with oyster on half or other fresh stuff, it stay away from cooked or specials.

Lots of shrimp, very informal

By LovesNM |

We went here for the all-you-can-eat shrimp on a Tuesday (and Thursdays too). I ordered just boiled shrimp and my companion ordered the combo. I was surprised to see the boiled shrimp served on ice. There were no sides, as expected. The fried shrimp, for the first plat, comes with fries and hushpuppies. The batter on the fried shrimp is similar to the batter on country fried steak in that it contains black pepper. The shrimp tasted fine. Not very flavorful. The staff was prompt at delivering the first beer and plat, but then the service slowed a little before again becoming prompt. The location is at a busy intersection and the outdoor seating has a view of the drive-thru of a Taco Cabana. the inside seating is a long u-shaped bar with a good atmosphere. The experience as fine, nothing notable. Admittedly I only tried the shrimp, but I was not left with a desire to rush back for dinner again soon.

Just passing..

Great food, Service Needs Attention

By JandJ-Globe-Trotters |

My husband a friend and I stopped in. The place was xrowded when we walked in. The register is right by the door and people everywhere, a little caotic. We stood for 5 mind or so unsure of what to do. The woman behind the register didn't pay attention to anyone walking in, so I stopped a waiter that was walking in our direction. I asked him what we were supposed to do, he took my name and we sat and waited for a table. It took about 15 minutes or so. We watched the staff and the employees were running around like chickens with their head cut off. Stressed and rushed. The woman behind the register started yelling at some employees in front of the customers, I thought that was inappropriate. We sat outside, I ordered the fried catfish, my husband the half and half and our friend the platter. We also ordered a dozen oysters. The food was excellent. I would have given this place a better rating if the service was better. The employees were nice (except that register woman) just forgetful and rushed. I will go back.

Great food, but HORRIBLE service!

By Gregorio P |

The food is great, but the service is really slow and they actually forgot my food for over an hour!

No Sea in the Seafood Gumbo!

By go2gamble |

I ordered the Bowl of Seafood Gumbo. There was maybe 4 or 5 baby shrimp the size of a peanut and then all okra and bell pepper. Not worth the price, or worth being called a seafood gumbo. I ordered the fried shrimp for $10 but was nothing to brag about and could of saved my money by going to Long John Silvers. I should of known when I arrived there was only one other person there eating I should of ate somewhere else.....

Hit or Miss

By 45Cocojr |

I come here every so often hoping that it gets better but it just isn't the best. It's not bad though. The service needs a lot of work. I got a super expensive plate of fried oysters. Way too much money for the quality. Will never order that again. Another time I ordered fried catfish and I thought it was crispy and seasoned well. I would order it again. The wait staff needs to be more attentive and needs to get friendlier. I probably wouldn't recommend because it is hit or miss.

Jump overboard

By keerist |

The first time we went here it was great. The second time the service was terrible. There is too much fried breading on the shrimp and oysters but the French fries are really good. We will not go thee again.

Usually great, but not today!

By Capt_Wyatt |

I have rated this place highly in the past. But today was embarrassing for the restaurant. I arrived with a strong desire for a shrimp po-boy. When it arrived it had exactly 4 shrimp on a huge 9 inch bun. Somebody must have trained the cook to put 4 shrimp on the sandwich...but if the shrimp are this small then it needs more. Really annoying, especially when you speak highly a place and pay good money, then to get this embarrassing meal? Come on guys... See my picture of the sandwich and judge for yourself. I ended up scooting all the shrimp onto half of the bun and then cutting off the reaming empty half.

Great seafood and incredible service.

By Juan N |

This place has been in San Antonio forever…well, it seems like it has. Incredible fresh seafood, including fresh oysters. They also offer land-lovers options like burgers and chicken. Huge selection of bar drinks and incredibly friendly staff.

Slow service, but delectable!

By Rubén Z |

We went on early Sunday and had oysters as an appetizer. Those were just right and good sized. For lunch our party of 5 ordered mahi-mahi (2 persons), a fried whole catfish, fried grilled red snapper, while I ordered a half and half order of fried and breaded large shrimp and a half catfish. My fries were not well seasoned at all. None of us criticized their meal despite my fries. But for that, this was a memorable meal. I recommend it! Be ready for a wait as the kitchen was very slow.

Old, good quality, reliable

By Jim H |

I've dined here, lunch and dinner, off and on since the dearly 1980s when I worked at the nearby UT med school. They have a good basic menu, kind of third-coast traditional. Nothing real exciting, but in my experience always well prepared and tasty. Oyster bar or table seating. My favorite choices - over the decades - the fried catfish, and fried oysters, and for that, mostly the oysters. With fries, good dipping sauce, recently they served us complementary hush puppies. Lunched here a couple weeks ago, that being my first time back in many years. Nothing much has changed in this friendly classic oeuvre. If you like Port Aransas style, this is as good as it gets in the big city.

Ate There Once; Will Never Return Even Though I Live Just 8-10 Blocks Away

By Dansktex |

I had Danish friends visiting for two months. They wanted seafood. It was the nearest seafood place to my home, so I took them there for lunch. Nothing we got was anything I would ever want to eat again. In fact, I sat there eating wishing I was somewhere else eating. The only justification I can find for some of the higher ratings is that it has been there for a long time, and lots of people are creatures of habit; maybe back in the 70's or 80's that was the best you could find and they still think it is because they haven't gone elsewhere. Or maybe the three of us just hit 0 out of 3 in terms of ordering things worth eating.

Horrible just Horrible.

By Ken O |

Horrible! I got my dinner and had to eat with my fingers one hour before my wife. My wife could not eat her food as it was not cooked properly. After I was finished they brought out my corn on the cob. We were ready to leave. Fred's Fish Fry is a five star restaurant compared to this place.

OK option in SA

By Jeffrey G |

As hard as I try, I've never left here with a check for less than $50 for two of us. Dry Dock leaves me nostalgic for places like Conchy Joes in Florida or a host of other 'joints' along the coast. Gumbo is good!

Kevin Saved The Day

By tgates5 |

Just an hour ago, I sat at the oyster bar watching Kevin shuck oysters. I complimented him on his work and he surprised me by saying it was his first day on the job. Things went downhill in a hurry from then. It took Kevin's best efforts and those of a young lady serving to get a waiter's attention. It was not especially busy at that moment, though it got very crowded soon after. While taking my order for a half-dozen on the half shell, the waiter asked if I would like for him to put in my order for the crawfish etouffee at the same time, or wait until the oysters were served. How thoughtful, I thought. After eating the oysters(which were good), I got his attention and asked if he had put in the etouffee order and he looked pained and rushed away to place my entree order. Then the fun started. After a delay, a platter of boiled crawfish was placed before me. Kevin said, "that's not right, he ordered the etouffee." Back the crawfish went. It seemed there were 30 or more on the small platter. I should have kept some, as things turned out. When the etouffee finally showed up, things did not look promising. The platter was piled high with sauteed bell peppers and onions. I did find some crawfish.....exactly 13 of them. The roux was good and there was plenty of rice. I did not leave hungry. But I will not be back. Lousy service and cutting corners will always provide a loser, for me.

Great oysters and snow crab

By Jptraveller21 |

I've been to this place twice and mus as that both times came out very happy. Contrar to some other opinions, the service was ok one time and very good the other. The oysters are fantastic as was the snow crab and the lobster. From the other people at the table, the gumbo was ok, as was the fish po boy.

Poor service

I have been coming to dry dock for many years . The food is great and the price is awesome . The quality of food is also awesome . But today I enter the Resturant and I understand about COVID 19 and the the distance we have to keep . So since I couldn’t sit at the bar at the time I sat by the windows . I sat there for at least 10 to q15 min before anybody attended me . This one guy yells at me and ask if I want some thing I told yes .I told him I wanted a Dos x x dressed tall . He yells at me and ask me if tall me a tall glass and I say yes. In the mean time I was waiting for my friend to show up and hex shows up and he has not served me . Instead he’s serving someone else . By this time the front part a couple is leaving and we take there spot, mind you my beer still hasn’t been served . I tell the server can I get my beer and than he goes an d serves me and I ask him can I have a lime . He says and never come back to bring it to me . my buddy ask for a michilada with Budweiser and it took him a while to make it and comes back with it but with bud light . My buddy tells him that he ask for Budweiser. And he turns around and starts yelling if anybody wants the mitchilada . He gives it away for free and leave and don’t come back . Here we go again awaiting to get serve and trying to order food . There was another gentleman there and he attended us and we got everything we needed . I spend $ 86.00 dollars there and I’ve spend a whole lot more before ,because I love the service and the food and atmosphere. Today has been one of the worst service I received . Now one more thing this family walks in and he shows up and try’s to service them but they ask for someone name Jason he yells really loud alright I dont have to serve you and yells for Jason . The young guy who did serve us and cash me out . I told him that I has a really bad experience here . He apologize but knowlege that he knew who I was talking about . I really don’t think I’ll ever come back . I’ve been in sales and customer service for over 35 yrs . How I treat my people is how I expect to be treated . Especially when I’m spending my hard earn money . If you have question feel free to Email at Wpierluissi58@ gmail.com

Terrible Service

Like many other reviewers, the service was terrible. I'm sure the oysters and beer is what keeps them afloat, because the food wasn't exactly great. A person in my party received the wrong dish, so the staff took it back to the kitchen and cooked a fresh meal. By the time he received his dinner, the rest of us were done. At any other restaurant, the manager would comp the dinner...not here. Seafood Gumbo was awesome! The only good thing there.

Good for seafood in TX

The Dry Dock Oyster Bar was conveniently located to my hotel. It has a large oyster bar area, which has a flat screen TV. You can watch TV, eat, and have a drink or soda. Note: it was about 7 p.m. and I was the only female at the bar area (LOL!). There is also a dining room and outdoor eating area. I ordered "Half and Half" plate, which you can mix/match with seafood choices. I chose rolled oysters (6) and butterfly shrimp (3). The oysters were very small with mostly cornmeal coating. The shrimp were WONDERFUL, but alas, there is only 3 in the meal, along with french fries (good) and two VERY small hush puppies. My meal cost about $12 with a soda. The guys who work there are very nice and friendly. The atmosphere is good.

Horrible Service

Went to the dry dock, sat at the bar, handed a menu and 10 minutes later not an acknowledgement from the bar server to ask for our drink or food order. In the meantime a man came in sat next to us, was immediately served with his all you can eat shrimp. I suppose the "regulars" get the best service, which sometimes is understandable. However, we will never go back.
