Best Fish N Chips in the City

By Shannon Marie |

This place is so delicious. We visit every time we are in Chicago. The fish is huge pieces of white meat in a light batter and the chips are perfect! Must try the regional beer they have on tap but be aware that it isn't served cold. (Domestic is served cold). Try the whiskey too! I can't wait to come back just thinking about it - may have to schedule a trip!

Out of this World!

By cntrygrl127 |

As a Scottish/Irish lass myself, I was searching the area around our hotel looking for a nice place to spend our last night in Chicago. I found this Scottish pub in my search and was very intrigued. I checked out the menu, specials, and the reviews. WOW...we just had to check it out! We were warmly welcomed by our server, Alexis, who really made us feel like we've been going there for years! We learned about ale's and lager's and some of the homeland favorites. We happened in on a Wednesday evening, all you can eat Fish & Chips. I must say, this was the best Fish & Chips I have ever had by far! I highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood, stop by because you won't be disappointed!

Great Spot for Food and Drink

By retro1959 |

Stopped here on a lark for a quick lunch. Was surprised to find a terrific atmosphere (the place feels a hundred years old, in a good way), excellent selection of beers from the British isles, and wonderful food. The fish and chips specialty is stupendous...very lightly breaded cod filets with almost no oiliness, served over a bed of oily fries and accompanied by a big serving of fresh tasting green peas (plus lemon and tartar sauce). A huge culinary find! Plus a very friendly staff. Will come here again.

Yummy dinner

By Sharon W |

Our table mostly had the Fish and Chips which were delightful and not a piece was left. The shephard's pie was also a hit, great flavor and not greasy. Had a very pleasant dinner with attentive waitstaff.

apple cider with brandy...

By Merlybird |

apple cider with brandy is perfect winter drink. love the fish and chips - they don't skimp on the peas!

The best fish and chips in the States so far.

By Anthony H |

Four of us visited the Duke of Perth recently and we all had the famous fish and chips. Nothing like fresh fish and wonderful chips. We could not resist the Chicken wings as a shared starter. My kinda place. very efficient and friendly service and excellent value.

Great limited selection of draft Scottish and Irish brews

By Tonyvinotiger |

Friendly atmosphere with a diverse clientele and great fish and chips and burgers; also the typical Scottish/English dishes. An original kind of place - not a chain pretender. Support the independents! Also a charming outdoor eating area weather permitting.

Scottish Ale Beer Here

By andrewfS9571KL |

Great deal for the all you can eat fish & chips on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but stay for their great collection of craft and imported beers that rival a good Guinness.

Great place!!

By elmundoaldia |

My friends and I totally loved this place, great food, great drinks menu, great service and well priced. What else can you ask for? I'd totally recommend it!

Fish and chips

By TonyChicago773 |

Some of the best fish and chips in they city. All you can eat twice a week. Great bartenders. Friendly service. During the summer, a fun outdoor beer garden.

Fun Place

By Fernando C |

From the exterior this place looks dunjy. But on the inside it's like walking into another town. Despite the darkness, this place is quite lively. There is usually live music or loud music, the food is great and they have very good cocktails. This is a hidden gemm that you must try when your in town, or if you live here also.

Best fish (cod) I've had in years - good and plentiful

By fyiforburns |

Excellent fish and chips. Wed and Fri all you can eat $14. Very Generous portion and seconds are just as plentiful. Bartender over charged for drinks by $6 but I didn't catch his error until I got back to hotel.

Fun neighborhood pub

My first visit - Brian the bartender was great - helped me with the amazing whisky menu ! I had the fish & chips - delicious, crispy light batter - finished the meal with sticky toffee pudding and melty ice cream - amazing I will definitely be back - possibly Rabbie Burns night 2018 Great ambiance and fun clientele

The 300yr. old beer recipe 🍻

By Sam |

I tried Belhaven Twisted Thistle & Belhaven Scottish Ale. Both was the best beer I’ve ever had. It taste fresh, smooth & homemade & was told one of them was a 300 yr old recipe, just top-notch. Zoey was nice, beer knowledgeable & attentive. Friday all you can eat fish was ok, it could’ve been thicker and less on the greasy side. The peas was cooked perfectly. I would definitely return for the beers. They also are scotch friendly.

great eating

By KEAYSTL |

The Duke has great fish dishes. Some days all you can eat. Some days two for one. The burgers are good. Good selection of beers from Ireland and Scotland. Prices are responsible for Chicago. There is nice patio. Gave it a four because smell of the cleaning product used in the main part. .

True Scottish pub

By Jennifer H |

Duke of Perth is delightful. Authentic Scottish pub grub, cozy ambience, and enough whiskeys on the menu to make your head spin (in a good way). Try the All-you-can-eat Fish N'Chips on Fridays. Not too greasy. Flavorful, firm fish in a tasty batter. Fresh peas and yummy chips. Great selection of lagers and ciders on tap, as well as imported bottles. Will absolutely go back!

Tartan Day Fun

By JSB915 |

A group of the Outlander fandom had a meet up for Tartan Day at Duke of Perth -- it was a blast! We enjoyed different whiskeys and ales, appetizers and dinner. The Fish and Chips was outstanding! Because it was Tartan Day, we enjoyed a bagpipe player snd Scottish dancer. A great time!!

Authentic Scottish bar with great character.

All-you-can-eat fish n chips on Wed & Fri. Chicago's best Scotch selection. Great Scottish beers on tap that you cannot find anywhere else. One of the best beer gardens in the city. The fireplace is perfect for a cold winter's night.

Pub food, wide variety of drinks

By Dan C |

The Duke is a casual, funky kind of place, offering typical pub fare with a wide variety of draft beers and a selection of scotches that is unrivaled in my experience. Twice a week they offer an all-you-can-eat fried fish special - a great value when you're ravenous - and other meal specials. Nice selection of beers, including some very satisfying Scottish draft beers, and some tasty appetizers, such as potato "skins" and tempera-like leeks. Fish and chips is a favorite, tender battered and fried cod, served with decent fries, and peas. Their burgers are exceptional, and generously filling, and while I was not impressed by their meatloaf, I have a friend who finds it irresistible. The chicken sandwich is OK (3 different varieties), and they make a pretty good shepherd's pie, and even offer a seafood version; bangers & mash is on the menu, but I have yet to try it. If you like single malt scotch, this place is heaven, they offer a huge variety, and several scotch "flights" for those who can't make up their mind. Reasonably priced, friendly servers, and a casual, local atmosphere. When it's warm outside, they have pleasant garden seating.

This Place is Perfect, Especially if You're a Wee Bit or Mare Scottish

By srmcel1 |

Wow, what a cool, fun place. I felt like I was back in Edinburgh. The food was great--we had fish and chips and Haggis wings (which were great, though no real haggis connection. We heard the Shepard's pie was also fantastic. The menu is full of great choices--some really Scottish, some with a just a fun spin on the name like the wings. Beer menu was loaded w/ from Scotland and a few from England (not feeling England these days but that's another story). There's a list of single malts a mile long. The walls are decorated with great kitsch from the motherland. Oh the server was great as well. It was worth a trip from New Jersey to get there! Look forward to returning to Chicago so we can go back to the Duke.

Scottish Bar from heaven. You would think you were in Trainspotting while there.

Great place but avoid the salmon and cod cakes

By David P |

I go this the Duke of Perth fairly often and like it a lot. However, the last time I was there I chose to veer from my usual menu selections into unfamiliar territory- the salmon and cod cakes. What a disappointment! First of all, they were severely deep fried and resembled thin fried eggplant rather than "cakes". That alone would not necessarily be a non-starter if they tasted good, but they were terrible. I could taste NO cod or salmon in them. In fact, I'm not sure I wasn't served fried eggplant because it really reminded me of that. I should have immediately returned the dish but, as usual, I kept quiet as to not upend the general good times the rest of the table was having. But, I will never oder that dish again and advise anyone else to avoid it unless you particularly like overly fried "fish" that tastes exactly like eggplant.

Charming neighborhood place & delicious

By BillNHeidi |

Always wanted to check it out. Didn't disappoint. Good choice of beers. Had a large whiskey list though we didn't have one. Friday night fish fry was excellent. Fish was great, breading light and it wasn't greasy. Nice cozy friendly atmosphere. Definitely going back to try the Shepard's Pie and the whiskey list.

Consistently good over the years!

By kmccolli |

I used to go here in the early 90s and order a McEwan's ale on tap. They no longer offer McEwans, but everything else about this charming pub/restaurant has stayed the same -- a very good thing! I love the menu -- great vegetarian options, burgers, sandwiches, and, of course, their famous fish and chips. So happy that when I return to Chicago for business trips, etc, I can return to this place and reminisce about those all-too-brief summers I spent in Chicago.

Beer, folk music and fish and chips!

By elainewylie |

Okay, we might be biased, because we are from Perth, but the Duke of Perth was an amazing pub! The furniture was all bought from Perth, Scotland, plus The Broons cartoons were in the toilet! Danielle behind the bar looked after us so well. Great beers and amazing haddock and chips! Added bonus was being there for the folk session from Rich and his colleagues. Will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago!

Whiskey heaven

By sjmegy |

I used to hang out at this place all the time when I lived in Chicago. Nice to know some things have not changed. The place has barely updated the restaurant or the menu. Believe me, this is a good thing. In an ever changing Chicago, it's nice to see a traditional 'on the corner' pub doing such good business. Of course, as everyone raves here, the fish and chips are stellar (even better than I've had in Glasgow and Edinburg). They've an outstanding Whiskey menu. The real deal. Try a few. Pull up a stool and chat with the bartender. Its a great Lakeview spot!

Quiet patio out back....perfect on a nice day/evening!

By IClean4Fun |

We walked over to Duke of Perth after visiting Lincoln Park Zoo. It was about a 40 minute walk which was perfect for a nice sunny day. We dined out back in their quiet courtyard patio and the atmosphere was wonderful. The food menu is limited with salads, burgers, a few sandwiches and a few traditional Scottish entrees. The burgers were large and tasty, the Lochinver Fish Po-Boy was large and had good flavor. The Shepherd's Pie and Trawlerman's Pie were average, small and not much flavor. The beer and whisky list were large and our selections were all cold and refreshing. We didn't order the Fish and Chips but after seeing other diners orders it portions were huge and the fish looked great. We might return to try the Fish and Chips but would definitely pass on the "Pie's"

Shepherd's Pie Delight

By MCHAMMERing |

Fantastic narrow and warm Scottish style pub with fantastic food. I got the Duke's salad, which had a fantastic house mustard vinaigrette. The Shepherd's Pie was heaping, with a generous helping of pees on the side-a true body warmer after a long walk. Good British beer selection and friendly wait staff...

Casual place for Irish food

By Tigger1971 |

This is a casual place for a solid, good meal. It's nothing special or remarkable, but tasty, reliable. Keep it in mind after seeing a flick at Landmark Century Cinema.

Dive bar but good

By Ron E |

This is just a dive bar. No tvs and they like it that way. Food is fresh and good. Nice for a stop in on a cold day. Love the fish and chips.

All you can eat fish - worth the wait!

By Saskcapers |

We went on Good Friday and probably waited an hour to get a table, but it was well worth it. The all you can eat fish and chips was amazing and our waiter was spectacular. It was our daughter's 17th birthday so he brought out a piece of cake with candles and led us in "Happy Birthday". It was a birthday that she will never forget. The food, drink selection, service and the atmosphere make this Scottish pub and must when in Chicago!

Great Scottish pub for a wee dram

By sjmegy |

Love be this place. Used to be my local in the 90s. Still authentic, still great selection of whiskies and single malts. Fantastic fish n chips. Chill vibe. Cool bar folks.

Amazing Fish and Chips

By Carla V |

The pub itself is a good ol' dingy pub type place. The back patio was really nice. The service was good. What was amazing was the fish and chips. Hands down the best I've ever had. I wish I could have more! Next visit to Chicago, I guess.

Cozy and Comforting

By Illinoisdancer87 |

A date I was meeting suggested this location, and I was presently surprised with how busy it was for a Wednesday evening. They have many beers on tap, and lots of great comfort food. The fish and chips were delicious, the Shepard’s pie wasn’t bad- but not as great as the fish. Definitely a place to check out if you enjoy beer and yummy food.

Nice dark pub; Good home cooking

By mwooduk |

We arrived at 7:30 p.m. on a dark, dreary rainy Chicago night; our good fortune was that a parking space opened up right outside the restaurant, otherwise there would have been nowhere to park. The pub is very cool, dark and authentic and full of interesting artifacts - everything from a deer mounted to the wall wearing a coppers hat to a ship's lamp by the bar! The menu is not extensive but there is something for everyone. The wine was delicious, I had the pinot grigio and my Mum had the Pinot Noir and they were both excellent. The food was mixed; my Mum's bangers and mash came with two types of starches, mashed potatoes and rutabaga plus peas; the sausages were tasty and the food was hot. My leek pie was not terribly exciting and the promised cheesy sauce was rather bland. The steamed veggies were very undercooked but the food was hot and filling, albeit a tad bland. My husband ordered a burger with grilled onions on top and it came with fried onion rings on top! The chips were nice. There is a nice outdoor beer garden at the back but obviously we couldn't use it on a rainy night. The staff were nice and attentive.

Great pub + always reliable fish and chips.

Great pub + always reliable fish and chips.

Food is OK, Single Malts and Beer, OH MY!

By zabriskibound |

This is an authentic Scottish pub, serving a great selection of draught and bottled beer and a tremendous selection of single malts, best in the city I think. You can even get single malt flights. Food is OK, along the lines of what you would expect in a Scottish bar. Fish and chips special is offered on Wednesday and Friday night for 10.95 all you can eat fish. Wee Heavy goes great with it! There are good burgers, vegetarian selections, and a very friendly staff. There is also a nice outdoor area in the back that has nice ambiance and is a wonderful place to toss back a few. ZB

Order fish and chips with a side of stovies

By Taylor B |

Duke of Perth at 2913 North Clark Street is a cozy Scottish pub with an array of pub grub and a large selection of beer and whisky. Established in 1989, it offers old-fashioned comfort food with an emphasis on traditional British/Scottish pub fare. Duke of Perth advertises its version of fish and chips as "the best you'll find this side of the Atlantic Ocean." I'm not an expert but this tasty cod is beer battered and seared with green peas, chips and malt vinegar. Other popular items on the men are Bangers and Mash, another British/Scottish/Irish favorite, Ghillie's meatloaf and Trawlerman's Pie, which consists of cod, shrimp, salmon and potato combined in a rich and creamy butter and parsley sauce topped with a crust of mashed potatoes and melted cheddar cheese. Include a side of stovies, a Scottish concoction of mashed potatoes with beef stock and onion. Start with an order of chicken fingers or skins with cheddar or wings with BBQ sauce or mac and cheese fritters or three 2 1/2 ounce burgers topped with American cheese. Duke's salad is recommended, too, mixed greens with tomato, cucumber and red onion served with crumbled blue cheese, dried cherries and toasted walnuts and grilled chicken. I don't spend much time in bars or pubs because I don't drink alcohol. But I have changed my perception because pubs like Duke of Perth are turning into restaurants and expanding their base of customers.

Worth A Trip For Dinner.

By Dogwalks |

Soo happy I returned here for a solo visit. Much like "Cheers" evetone is welcome and avetbody is a buddy the moment you enter. Thid is Scottish fare at its finest. I chose the Curry Chicken Pie with cucumber salad. Best I ever had! Top this with a single malt and brew and you have a delightful experience.

The Duke ...we almost felt like we werein Scotland ....

By SCOUTFROMTHENORTH |

Wow, Well we had been by the Duke before but never stopped....This was a Friday we had just arrived for the weekend..Stopped in for a pint or two....Got to talking to some Cub fans that had wandered in after the game . They have imports and some great microbrews also. We ended up having the best Fish and Chips . Very light coating and served up with peas ....Mike the barkeeper was quick to fill our glasses and give us directions to area events . They have service in the bar, dining rooms and a outdoors seating area. Yes we do plan to go back to the Duke......Cheers ....

Great Food, Great Beer, Great Patiio

By Karen V |

This bar was recommended to us. Glad we took his advice. The Wee Heavy Beer was one of the best beers I have ever had. The all you can eat fish and chips on Friday night was delicious and served in a very timely mannerr. We were able to sit outside on the patio (about a 10 minute wait) and enjoyed a great evening. We also enjoyed watching the bartender pour his scotch like a pro. Great place. Nothing fancy, but food and beer were outstanding. Highly recommend it. Were able to walk to the Laugh Factory from there to see a great show!

Loved the Fireplaces - Very Cozy

By MadameHourquebie |

We stopped by here after seeing the Oscar Nominated Short Films at the nearby theater. I like the ambiance because there is a lot of wood, two fireplaces, a bar in the front and walls decorated with odds n ends. We just got some lagers and ciders but enjoyed hanging out on a winter night next to their fire. They have a patio in the back which is supposed to be great in the summer so I am sure I will stop back to visit!

Comfort food, Scottish style

By Anakin49 |

Since learning of my Scottish ancestry, I've been wanting to try Scottish food. I imagine the Duke of Perth is as authentic as it gets outside of Scotland. I tried the trawlerman's pie with shrimp, fish, parsley, and topped with mashed potatoes. The sauce reminded me of clam chowder, but it was so much better and was very creamy. I also ordered a Skull Splitter Orkney Ale and an Arran 16 whisky. The ale was filling and went well with my meal. I'm not a big fan of whiskey, but thought I should try Scottish whisky while I was at the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised with the Arran 16. I did add a little water to the glass, but it was a nice way to end my meal. The pub has a bar indoors and outside seating. The outdoor area was great for relaxing with a book while I ate. I'll definitely return on my next visit to Chicago. The pub seems like a great place to stop on a cold Chicago day. The Scottish comfort food and whisky will warm you up!

decent

By karsteele |

decent fish and chips in a fun atmosphere. The bar can get a bit crowded, but everyone is friendly and helpful.

Good food and service in a comfortable setting

By Steigenberger592 |

We arrived for lunch on a Thursday at about 1 PM and the place was almost empty. But, we'd read good reviews and decided to stay. We're glad we did. Duke of Perth is a cross between a pub and a neighborhood bar. Lots of wood, no TVs, lots of memorabilia on the walls -- a very comfortable feel. They have a good variety of pub food on the menu and a nice selection of Scottish beers on tap. We had the bangers and mash and the "Robert the Bruce" burger. The bangers and mash came with 3 big sausages, mashed potatoes, lots of peas, mashed rutabaga and gravy. The "Robert the Bruce" comes with a choice of three toppings from a list. We went for mushrooms, bacon and Cheddar on the burger, which was served with fries, lettuce, tomato and pickle slices. Both dishes were very good; Service was fast and friendly. We plan to go back in the near future to try other items on the menu.

First Rate Fish & Chips

By AmandaSchwass |

We discovered this bar on a weekday afternoon, on the hunt for fish and chips and couldn't have been more pleased! Comparable (and in many cases better!) then the fish & chips I've gotten in England - the portions are heaping, the fish is moist and tender and batter is light and crispy. Highly recommend this traditional dish! We sat out back to enjoy the sunshine and sipped refreshing and very tasty draft Scottish beers. Atmosphere was relaxed and the service was friendly and appropriately attentive without hovering. Great food, great beer, great fun. We will definitely be back for seconds in a return trip to Chicago!

Cozy Spot.

By Brian L |

No TV's. Just good company and socialising... remember what that is? This is the perfect spot for me to go when I'm seeing a film at Landmark. I love the interior that had old wood tables and chairs and somewhat kitschy items on the walls, but done tastefully... not in a commercial Bennigan's sort of way. They got lots of whisky and scotch at your heart's desire and a rotating offering of brews. I enjoy the Robert Bruce burger, though (perhaps my memory deceives me) I remember them being a lot bigger ten years ago. Still, it's a nice and intimate sort of spot away from Wrigleyville types where you can enjoy yourself.

Fish and chips with Whiskey for days!

By Candice H |

The whiskey list is extensive, with budgeted prices to super fancy. Th fish with the fish and chips serving is the biggest I've ever seen. Their stovie potatoes are totally something your Scottish grandma would make. Yummmm I'd recommend any of the 4 burgers, they are legit the best in the neighborhood. The patio is lovely when opened, especially after dinner time. I've now visited strictly for food at least six times , and I will continue to return with new friends and family in a time that I need to impress.

Great authentic find

By DianeTN |

Thoroughly enjoyed an early fall meal here while visiting my daughter and her boyfriend. It's like walking into a Scottish pub over in the Highlands. Dark panels and interesting clocks and country scene prints on the wall, close wooden tables -- it all comes together quite nicely and that's before you pick up the menu. Since the weather was still fine, we headed through the restaurant proper and out to the beer garden -- an excellent choice if the weather is OK. When the restaurant is full, the inside can be pub noisy (but without, as daughter and her boyfriend pointed out, the blare of TVs!). I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she suggested the bangers and mash -- plump sausages, mashed potatoes, mashed rutabaga and bright green peas. A pleasant and hearty switch from American pub grub. My daughter got the leek pie (it's a favorite) and her boyfriend opted for the all-you-can-eat fish and chips. One small glitch of a sort that we all laughed about which was certainly not within the power of the Duke of Perth: my daughter glanced up at the nearby apartments and glimpsed a naked man coming out of the shower!

Great atmosphere and fish 'n' chips! I want to go back.

By NFB-418 |

The front room is the nicer room...great pub atmosphere, lots of wood paneling, interesting decorations and street-front windows. We were there at night, and the low lighting set a nice mood. The food was delicious and the service was great too. It was a fun evening. I'll definately go back next time I'm in Chicago.

Good grub

By talulah14 |

We called into the Duke of a Perth when we were staying at the Days Inn just around the corner on Diversey Parkway. The food was good, some of our party had fish and chips, I had the fish pie and everyone enjoyed the food so much we went back the next evening for more! They have a good selection of ales on draught and the service was friendly without being intrusive. Nice patio area at the back. Would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Great little pub

Great pub ambience- the chocolate stout is like buttah. Cheap wings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they are sure not spicy enough although they have good flavor. Curry angus steak strips- also yum. Fish and chips were more than decent. The hot buttered rum I'd skip- next time I'll for for a scotch toddy and see if it tastes less watery. Also a nice selection of whiskeys. Dark cozy pub ambiance, with a fire in the back room.

Authentic!

By MacKeaton |

My husband and I love the authentic feel of this pub. If you're looking for a spotless, brightly lit restaurant, this is not the place for you. If you want to feel as though you stepped into an old pub off the streets of Scotland...this is it. I ordered the Cock a Leekie Pie..took me back to my days as a student in Edinburgh...and the chips (fries)...best British "chip" across the pond! We loved the extensive whiskey list as well. This will be a regular pub we go to when we visit Chicago from now on.....loved it.

Great in you're in the area

By 4dordys |

We were lucky to be in the area and had wanted to try this food for some time. Weeknight at about 7 and wasn't too busy even though there'd been a Cubs game earlier. Maybe they'd cleared out already. Quaint, dark but inviting, older furnishings. Nice outdoor area that we choose not to use this time, but it looked nice for hanging out. I had fish and chips. The coating was quite thin, not what I expected, but very crispy. 2 nice fish fillets were moist and tasty and hot. I was expecting the thicker batter coating but this was more like (dare I say) panko breading. Peas were nothing special. Absolutely no seasoning, but perhaps they think that is authentic. If so, imh they should break that tradition. The French fries were good too but not remarkable. The Robert the Bruce burger was a delicious, large, medium rare beast. Loads of fries and choices of condiments. Lastly there were Tattie (potato) skins that were filled with cheese and the other usual toppings. Good, but not the calling card here. Really enjoyed our dinner and the environment and might make a trip out again. We took red line to Belmont and a quick taxi but it would have been a nice walk in the right weather.

They have very good food here. The staff is so friendly here. Was here with my date. it was our first-time meeting together. we did enjoy our food and our time together

New location on Broadway

By Christine H |

The new space is nice while it retains its original charm. We tried the burger with blue cheese and the fish & chips. I would not recommend this burger. The blue cheese was just some chunks on top of the burger. It could be better if the cheese was a bit creamy. You can never go wrong with the fish & chips. Next time, I'll request my chips crispier but that is just my personal preference. The service was good, and it has a nice selection of beers.

Great whiskey menu. Interesting on tap beer

By middpanther |

Came here to meet up with a friend for drinks - a great choice. The whiskey menu is intense (see photos for evidence) and provides a great selection of Scotch. They also have scottish beers on tap. We tried most of them - and they were all good. The Scottish lager was our favorite. A great spot to meet up with friends for a drink.

Lovely pub

This is a lovely pub that will make you feel as though you are in the UK. It has a lovely atmosphere and is especially nice on a cold winter's night. Very good fish and chips.

Almost Just As Good As In London

By iluvmanila |

I visit Chicago a lot and stay in Lincoln Park/Lakeview area. My hubby loves fish and chips so my daughter said the perfect place is Duke of Perth within walking distance. This place was packed because of all-you-can-eat. The best fish and chips I've had was in London but the Duke's is pretty good. I regret with all the dining options in Chicago that I have not had a chance to return to this restaurant.

Good as ever...

By Sandy H |

On a recent week-end, my husband and I were staying near Duke of Perth, so we walked over and had an early dinner there about 5:00 PM on a Saturday night. My husband ordered a medium dark beer, Belhaven Wee Heavy, and I had the Belhaven Twisted Thistle, which was very good. I really liked it and should have stuck with it, but I decided to try the Belhaven Scottish Lager, which was good. However, I liked the Twisted Thistle much better, which was a pale ale. They offer several beer choices on tap and in bottles, as well as Dry Blackthorn Hard Cider on tap. We both ordered the fish 'n chips for our dinner, and it was as good as I remember it. They have all you can eat on Wednesday and Friday nights, but honestly, the portion of two large pieces of fish was as much as we both could eat. The fish 'n chips are accompanied by very fresh looking peas, which my husband loves! He ate mine, as well, because I'm not a fan of peas, but I have to admit I tasted them, and they did taste fresh. Our waiter was friendly, and we would definitely go back! Hopefully, it won't take us so long between visits next time we go....glad we were staying nearby.

Quaint Eatery

By John T |

Wonderful trawlerman's pie and Scottish Beer, but the list of single malt wiskeys to choose from make this a must stop for the serious Scotch drinker.

It is not easy to find real Scottish but you can here.

By Patrick J |

I had a small opener with haggis as the main ingredient. I love haggis and this was very welcome. As a main I had a chicken curry dish with mashers and peas on the side. Where else can you find a Scottish Pub...but Chicago.

It was definitely worth the drive to vist The Duke of Perth. It was our lucky day that it was Monday, which was two for one meals. It was a little dark, however we enjoyed the pub atmosphere. My husband loved the dark stout. The fries were fresh cut and delicious. I had the Cock a leekie pie. I liked it except the sauce it was in could have been a little thicker and more seasoned. We also had the burgers which were just OK. The fish and chips looked great at another table and we should have tried the shepards pie. We will definitely come back for the Shepards pie and fish and chips.

Great food and atmosphere

This is a great place if you want a British fix. The fish and chips is delicious. You can also get boddingtons here! Tasty food but overpriced whiskey flights. The staff are OK but I didn't find them to be friendly or too welcoming.

Whoa- that was a pleasant surprise

Outstanding fresh fish and chips as well as pot roast for another couple. Great small tavern atmosphere for sure, but what a surprise on he quality of the food. Served nice and hot not the cursed sit under the lamp like too many restaurants.

Best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic

By mudfoot |

The fish is crispy, fresh, and delicious. Chips are fresh cut and tasty, as are the peas. Many Scottish beers to choose from, as well as what is likely the largest single malt selection in Chicago. All you can eat dinners Wednesday and Friday, but this really is not needed as the portions are plenty big anyway. The atmosphere is pretty laid back most of the time, unless you hit the place at peak time. Nice beer garden in back, very secluded and peaceful.

A Great Scottish Pub - in Chicago

By H H |

Okay, you're not likely to hear Glaswegian accents here, but it is a cozy neighborhood bar in the North side of downtown Chicago, southeast of Wrigley. Has a large collection of Scotch whisky, including "flights" that vary in rarity & price. Many rare malts. A little narrow inside but you can go to outside seating area, if weather is warm & dry. Good fish & chips, all you can eat Wed. & Fri. Wings are huge and spicy. Live music on weekends.

Miss Wis.? Get Fish Fry at the Duke

By Brent45 |

As a true Wisconsinite, when I moved to Chicago I missed the Friday all-you-can-eat fish fries at the local VFW club or church basement. Then I discovered the Duke of Perth, which offers the Northwood's staple on Fridays AND Wednesdays from noon to closing. The fillets are crispy, tasty and keep coming until you yell stop. (Close at hand is malt vinegar, if you're from Canada.) Feel guilty about eating all those fries? Just ask and the waiter will substitute steamed vegetables. Then top it off with a Guinness or other draft beer, and you'll never again miss Milwaukee.

Great local spot

Firstly, note that the address that Tripadvisor currently has is wrong, I sent in an update but it is now on 2827 N Broadway Street NOT North Clark. New location has an outdoor place in front of(not big but there and is really lovely inside. Same everything else, right down to the decor which they brought from the old spot. This place does a limited menu, has a limited bar (beers and whiskeys and a few wines and spirits) but what it does, it does well. Really fab neighborhood spot--and if you like fish and chips or Sheppards pie--this is your place!

Not so bad...

Place ha a reasonable atmosphere. Food was ok, nothing special. The menu you was novel. I particularly like the the theming if it. I had a problem with my starter, the said nothing and took it if my bill at the end. It was a little strange drinking cider in an American Pub I have to say. Is it a fair representation of being British, it's not bad. There are some things we don't usually have but was fun none the less:-)

charming and friendly place to unwind

suggested by a local, we visited this place on friday night and found it to be cozy, inviting and well stocked with an out of the ordinary selection of whiskey and beers from scotland and elsewhere.

My Favorite Chicago Hangout

By Ian W |

I've been going to the Duke of Perth since the early 1990s. Its a great place to go and get some fish and chips after a Cubs game. The menu expanded a bit in the last 5 years but it still delivers the best fish and chips in the USA IMHO. The whisky menu is wonderful and they have Bellhaven on tap. I wish I could have a tranporter device that would beam me into their outdoor dining area in summer time.

Good food.

Stopped in for all you can eat fish and chips on a Friday. Food was great, they have a great selection of UK and Irish beers and whiskey. The service was good, all ran by the friendly bartender.

Great Whiskey List.

Lets be honest. This place is cramped. it can take a while to get a table and you might not be able to find anywhere to rest your drink while you are waiting because the bar is usually full to. But there's a reason I keep going back. They have a fabulous collection of Single Maly Whisky. The all you can eat Fish and Chips is a great value draw for the hungry patron and they do have a decent menu of Scottish and English beers. But I go for the Whisky

We wanted to try Haggis for the first time and we found a great spot.

By Jeanne F |

A lovely, cozy spot. We sat up at at the bar and chatted up the bartender while trying some new scotch and a pretty darn good Haggis appetizer (the Haggis Pot). We also had the fish and chips, which could not have been better!!!

Went in by chance - will go back on purpose

We were going to a movie on N. Clark and wanted to grab some lunch first. It was a VERY cold and blustery day, but we didn't want a chain...so we jogged a couple of blocks and just as we reached the limit of our cold tolerance we spotted this pubby looking place and decided to take a chance. We were very glad we did. Warm and cozy, good Brit pub food, and though we weren't drinking - what looked to be a wonderful selection of beers and scotch/whiskeys. They have an outdoor patio space for warmer weather, too.

Pretty good food, though...

Pretty good food, though I was hoping they'd have haggis. ;P Great selection of beers, and I'm waiting for winter to try their hot buttered rum.

Excellent Food in a Cosy Pub Setting

By dunadan |

We stopped in to the Duke for a late lunch on a rainy day after seeing Blue Man Group, and we had a wonderful meal in a cosy setting. The menu had the type of pub food we were expecting, and it did not disappoint. The Shepherd's Pie was excellent, and my meatloaf was moist, flavorful, and covered in a tasty gravy. I had a pint of cider with my meal, which was the perfect accompaniment. The place was nearly empty, so service was great. The decor was nice, and there were lots of interesting photos and memorabilia on the walls and elsewhere that provided interesting conversation pieces. Definitely worth a consideration if you are in the area and in the mood for pub grub!
