Poor Service

By Ted Luehs |

Came in for lunch at starting time. Not busy. Ordered bacon wrapped asparagus. Not bad. Seafood dumpling bland. Problem came when they forgot tea and want $5 for it. A glass of ssuvignon blanc cost the same as full bottle retail. Wanted to give me tea after presented bill. Staff employee gave me cheek when i said take tea off bill. Asked why. I said did you see any tea on the table? .

Only shao lung bao are good here

By Chartreuse |

Our child wanted to treat me to dinner here and comes here with friends to eat. I only found one dish to worth eating here, the shao lung bao (steamed dumpling with broth inside). The dried fried chicken wings were awful and the green onion pancake wasn't that good and we found a hair at the bottom of the garlic spinach dish and the pan fried dumplings were not good either. I would not come back here to eat unless all you want is 3 orders of steamed dumplings with broth inside.

Dumplings! Oh, boy!

By K D H |

Line was out the door (on a Saturday night), but the wait was short, and worth it. Our order arrived quickly, and was hot and delicious. We ordered sautéed green beans, pork dumplings and pork pot stickers. There was no skimping on the food or the service.

Gives Din Tai Fung a run for it's $$$

By p f |

Recommended by our friend and it didn't disappoint. It's on the other side of San Francisco but well worth the ride. The Shanghai dumplings are delicious ad is the Walnut shrimp.

Outstanding !!!!!

By moozicman |

Very, very busy even on a Sunday night, but well worth the wait..Fast efficient service and superb dim sum...Scrumptious prawns with walnuts...We'll be back for sure whenever we are in town...

Excellent Dim Sum

By ruthandvern |

We love Dim Sum! We had our favorites: shrimp hargow, shrimp and pork shumei, and added the wonderful crab and pork dumpling. Portions larger than expected, priced commensurate.

Oily & Salty

By Philob |

Ordered a couple of dishes for takeout including the Vegetarian Chicken. All the dishes were overly salty, even my kid who likes things salty thought it was too salty. The vegetarian chicken was soaked in oil. The black fungus was soggy when it should be crispy and the black mushrooms, seem they didn't even bother to strain the water out when they rehydrated it as each one was so salty

Crazy Family Dinner

By Christopher W |

Fourteen of us spread across two tables in this fairly small and chaotic restaurant. Service a bit haphazard but a crazy busy place. Orders for a bit mixed up between the two tables but added to the fun. Excellent food, generous portions very well presented and reasonably priced. Very enjoyable, great fun.

just okay

By shawnCA |

The restaurant was quite busy on a Friday afternoon. The pork dumplings were pretty good; but we thought the ones with crab were odd. First, you can't tell there is crab inside. But more importantly, the broth tasted like fermented bean curd which was overpowering and ruined the flavor. The noodles were fine, pancakes were not too tasty. Service was good, but the prices seemed high.

A Neighborhood Gem

By Frank A |

Living in San Francisco's outer Parkside (Outer Sunset) District, I have for years passed a number of local restaurants along the street car route to downtown. I make my notes and check the restaurant reviews and go for myself. I waited too long, I should have tried this restaurant sooner, as it is definitely one of my go-to places when I have unexpected guests in town. The dumplings are good, fresh and served quickly. The service is good and friendly. My recommendation is to try it for yourself, especially if you live in San Francisco. For out of towners, it is 30 minutes or so using the Muni system-on the line going to the Zoo.

Dim Sum as it’s best

By cancellarius |

We searched for a quick and easy dinner and found this surprising restaurant for Dim Sums. It is actually a place which you normally do not enter except you have a recommendation or TripAdvisor says it is good. We followed TripAdvisor and right-away we stood in a tiny very hectic restaurant but...once we ordered the very delicious and tasty food we just enjoyed it. I do confirm that the first impression does not reflect what you get for your money but it is worth it 👍🏼

Good dumplings and try the spicy fish soup!

By Bonnie C |

Our server told us the spicy fish soup was "hot" and he was correct!! OMG!! It was so tasty! You'll need more napkins to wipe the sweat off your face! We also had the pork steamed dumplings and the green beans (wonderful) Like most of the neighborhood restaurants it is small but the tables turn over quickly and you can go on to Yelp and put your name on waitlist. We just hung out. It was a beautiful Saturday at lunch.

Delicious Neighborhood Gem

By nylabuyer |

Behind this small and unassuming restaurant front lie some of the most delicious and authentic Chinese food around. The steamed vegetarian dumplings were amazingly fresh and the inside veggies were crisp and not wilted. The pan fried pork buns were so tender that they melt in your mouth and dipping into the black vinegar only enhances the flavor. The dry braised string beans are crisp and crunchy with a delicious lightly pickled flavor. The Pork Stir Fried Rice Cake was flavorful, and somehow simultaneously fresh and hearty - like a marriage of chow fun noodles and a stir fry. I cannot wait to come back!!!

Best Dumplings Ever!!

By hoteltraveler2015 |

My family LOVE this place. I actually think their soup dumplings are better than Din Tai Fung, "yes" they are that good. Not only are the dumplings good so are their other foods. It's is good that even my kids will eat their food and the leftover the next even taste just as good. However I wouldn't recommend taking home soup dumplings, but any noodle dish or their pan fried dumplings are super yummy.

Excellent dumplings

Small, unassuming neighborhood place with amazing fare. Love the dumplings and the homemade noodles, but everything is fresh and delicious. My favorite spot for lunch in the city.

dumplings and much more!

By JDZatSF |

I hadn't been back since almost 5 years ago, but I'm glad I returned. There was a line at lunch on this lunar new year and it was worth the wait. Tea came quickly and the service was friendly, helpful, and fairly efficient, despite the packed restaurant. In addition to veg steamed dumplings and scallion pancakes (both still winners, though the scallion pancake isn't really good value), we tried the mu shu vegetable. The mu shu vegetable (without egg) came on a big oval plate with little pieces of broccoli in addition to the more standard veggies. I felt so lucky! We received six pancakes and I appreciaated that they were thick and therefore didn't break, as so many do at other Chinese restaurants. The hoison sauce was thick and tasty, so the whole package was good and yummy.

Tasty Asian food!

By karl t |

Stayed at an Airbnb in the Sunset area . Ordered take out a couple of times. Had some pork dishes like the sweet vinegar pork spare ribs. Yummy ! Had the steamed pork dumplings and cabbage dumplings; these also great. This food was some of the best Chinese food I have ate inside the U.S.

Authentic

By nanimoe |

Lots of choices in SF but we like this one the most. The xio long bao is perfect, the pork belly is the best. Recommend the pork buns and the chow mein's too.

Not your typical dim sum place

By nadomom2 |

Wow this place is great. I just ordered everything the family at the next table ordered and then we added a few items like fried dough, green onion cakes and green beans. OMG every dish was delicious. The best sauté green beans ever. The pan fried dumplings were the best ever. Service was fast. And dishes are rushed out ASAP so they are HOT. Love it

a single dish restaurant - but what a dish !

By Scipion Paris |

if you are looking for the best shanghai soup dumpling on this side of Pacific Ocean look no more - that is clearly the place: ten dumplings filled with hot and tasty broth and very thin dough - just perfect !

Regal Dumplings

By gcosta58 |

Amidst all the possible confusion with the dumpling kings and kingdoms, this was by far the best! After trying Kingdom of Dumpling - with an insane line and wait time, we drove down a bit and came upon this gem. Flavourful dumplings, attentive service. The Shanghai style dumplings were awesome but the wontons in Chili oil were OUTSTANDING. Definitely by pass the long lines and wait times and then afterwards, watch the sunset on Ocean Beach!

Excellent Value

By JandEToronto |

Great authentic food. Staff were accommodating since we didn't know what exactly to order. We left with full stomachs and had the most economical dinner for $38 for two. Get there early for dinner as this restaurant fills up with the locals.

Wow Dumplings

By PAMCD |

Had to try this place, we were looking for a great dumpling and we found them! Oh so tiny, but so worth waiting for, they have takeout if out choose not to wait. We had the Shanghai-Style Steamed Pork Dumplings (10pcs), absolutely fabulous, so tasty, steamed to perfection. We also had a chicken with mixed vegetables, so fresh and cooked to perfection not overdone, the veggies were still slightly crunchy not soggy. Also the dry braised string beans, best ever, Red Bean Pancake, these were fantastic, great to finish off dinner off.

Great authentic Shanghainese soup dumplings

By 2tuscany |

Excellent soup dumplings at reasonable prices but very crowded most of the time; prepare for long wait.

DINNER WITH FAMILY

By FIRSTBORNWONDER |

We ordered pork with preserved vegetable rice cake, Shanghai style udon, pea sprout with garlic, dry-braised green beans, sticky rice shumai, shanghai-style pan-fried pork buns were delicious. But I’ve had better shanghai-style steamed pork dumplings and green onion pancakes. The shanghai-style steamed pork dumpling should have more soup inside and the skin should be thinner. The green onion pancakes are also too thick. It’s like a pizza crust it needs to have the right amount crisp on the outside and chew on the inside to be delicious. Although the dry-fried chicken wings is good, I’m not sure why “dry-fried” would be covered with sauce, making it taste like general gau’s chicken wings. I’m not use to it. Where I’m from chicken wings come dry like the name say.

Freshly made to order pork dumplings met our high expectations. Five Internet recommended dishes, three hot teas, and one diet coke cost $46, including tax and tip. The four of us left this gem more than satisfied. There was ample free parking on Taraval within 1&1/2 blocks of the restaurant.

Our son found this place

By Cape Cod Dreaming |

Our son goes to China several times a year and always raves about the dumplings that he has there. When we went to see him in San Francisco he looked for and found this wonderful place located on Taraval Street. While we are not very familiar with eating dumplings we do know what quality is all about and this place hit all the high marks. The restaurant is small with limited seating. We arrived after the lunch hour and got a seat right away. The server was prompt and took drink orders and gave us plenty of time to review the menu. The menu has lots of choices of different dishes with pork, fish, beef and fish and vegetarian dishes available. When you order dumplings you get several with your order. We order four different dishes for the three of us and had plenty to eat. We saw several plates going to other tables and everything looked and smelled very good. Everything was served about the same time and came out nice and hot. Some of the dumplings we ordered had soup inside them. The trick is to take a small bite out of the side and then drink the broth inside before eating the dumpling. Typical San Francisco on the street parking...limited. The price was very reasonable and the service was very good.

Excellent service

By Carolina L |

The soup is large, to share, the duplings were the best, the plants are to share because of their size, very good service and speed.

Yet another great find in SF

By BobandDenise1979 |

We had a mid-afternoon lunch here and got a table immediately. The staff is very friendly and cheerful. For the three of us, two dumpling dishes and the dry braised green beans was plenty. There is free one hour parking on street. The beans are fantastically flavorful, crisp and coated with salty oil--a truly magnificent classic Chinese staple, as good here as we've ever had (sometimes seen as Gan Bian String Beans). This version is not spicy like some. A local favorite well worth trying!!! Large menu with interesting noodle and vegetable and soup choices. The A1 Soup Dumplings are perfect, simple and freshly made. Love them!

Great xiao long bao

By Jeffrey D |

Went to Dumpling Kitchen for dinner tonight. The xiao long bao is delicious. We ordered a few other dishes that were good, but nothing special. Prices are very reasonable. Restaurant can get pretty crowded - line was out the door when I first arrived.

WOW!! Unexpectedly Amazing!

By mctraveler2 |

It was late night, I did not want something greasy, spicy, or fast food. I did a search for what was close by. This place caught my attention. I actually circled three times trying to find a place to park. It was worth the wait. I ordered the Vegetarian steamed dumplings and the corn chicken soup. I ordered them to-go. I expected hot and filling. What I didn't expect was the fresh taste and flavor explosion. It was amazing. These are the best steamed dumplings I have ever had. The soup was like egg drop soup with corn and bits of chicken. The soup was excellent!! Do yourself a favor and stop by for some dumplings. I had planned to post pictures, unfortunately, the food was gone before I had a chance.

Good dishes

By Tunaidi |

I came for the soup dumplings, but found that Dumpling Kitchen has much more to offer than just soup dumplings. In fact, the soup dumplings were just average. The scallion pancakes were decent. The stir fried rice cakes were delicious, and the giant meat ball casserole was amazing. The sweat soy milk drinks are fresh and memorable.

Great dumpling and other region cuisine

By needmoretimeoff |

We often eat and order take out from here. The restaurant is always crowded regardless of the time of the day. We always order the Shanghai dumplings, cold fish and various other dumplings. There are very limited street parking in the neighborhood.

Best dumplings I've ever had... and I've had a few

By Patrick L |

We wanted to get out of downtown and try someplace else. I like to consider my self somewhat of a dumpling expert, a connoisseur you might say, and hands down these were the best I've ever had. You wouldn't go for the decor or location but the food is second to none.

GREAT food

By renz124 |

Stopped in for Dumplings with friends, and had an AMAZING meal. Every item that we ordered was delicious. The staff was friendly and service was quick. Would recommend this place to anyone, and if I'm ever in San Francisco again, I would definitely return!

Best soup dumplings

By Philippe M |

I've been trying every dumplings restaurants in San Francisco, the Shanghai soup dumplings are the best here. It's a very local place, not fancy. But the food is the best. It's far from the center though.

Local Favorite

By Cattleman007 |

Very popular Dim Sum neighborhood spot. We stopped in for a late (1400 hrs) lunch on a Saturday, and still had a 20 minute wait. We shared Steamed Pork Dumplings, Pork Cabbage Dumplings, Kung Pao Shrimp, Steamed Rice, and finished with Red Bean Pancake for dessert. All these items were delicious! Family run, crowded with only on street parking, this is a local gem.

Oh my

By Steve_Pasyanos |

The dumplings are ridiculous and the noodles are equally delicious. Fast service, the line tells you how good it is. A must if you like dumplings.

juicy and tasty dumplings

By natalia A |

Didn't eat dumplings in a long time so wanted to go to a really nice place. Since envibe app recommended Dumpling Kitchen we decided to go there to try it. And the food was absolutely delicious! Yummy )). Juicy, perfectly cooked dumplings. Good service and food came out very fast. Definitely worth going there.

Not for tourists

By physbiz |

We had the vegetarian steamed dumplings and a red bean pancake for our late lunch. Both were excellent. Mostof the clientele were Chinese from the hood. We were proud of ourselves and you can be too.

Great dumplings at a great price!

My family LOVES dumplings so we decided to try Dumpling Kitchen for dinner one night. We ordered take out and brought it back to our place. Everything was excellent...only problem is we didn't order enough :) We highly recommend the dumplings!!!

By Barbara R |

It may sound funny considering our trip to Napa and Sonoma super fancy restaurants to rate the meal in the Dumpling Kitchen the best meal we had on this trip. We are not even crazy about asian food however we wanted to try Shanghai dumplings and this place came up. Recommend it to everyone, super fresh and tasty food food.

Good food!

By SFOYYZ_Eric |

We were craving for dumpling on Sunday morning and saw all the good reviews about this place. Everything we tried were delicious. Wonderful young staff. The place was packed. I would definitely go back. Only dislike was the 45-min wait. We went there at peak Sunday noon time. One suggestion - put your name on the wait list on the phone before you go and eliminate the long wait.
