If you are a dumpling lover, you'll be back again and again!

By YunitaTHollinger |

If you like dumplings/ buns/ gyozas, and want to have them in a decent restaurant without any fuzz but still with some decent service (not being yelled to and frown upon like at many dim-sum restaurants in Chinatown), then this is the place for you! We almost always skip the starters or small bites since there are only 2 of us and each order of dumplings/ buns/ gyozas come with at least 4 pieces, but if you come with a group bigger than 3-4 people, then go ahead try them too. The waiter will tell you to order everything upfront and there will be around 15 minutes waiting period if you decide to add something to your order, this is to ensure that they could bring everything in one go to your table. But if you decide to add something afterward, don't hesitate to order it afterward, we only had to wait less than 10 minutes. It's better than over order and don't know what to do with the rest of the foods (these foods are not exactly good or easy to be reheated afterward). We prefer to sit outside, since inside sometimes could be hot and so noisy. You'll find waiting line most of the time, but if you come for lunch at around 2 pm, you'll be seated soon. They close for lunch at 2.30pm, which means they stop taking names at that time, but they will still seat you after 2:30 pm (just make sure to write down your name in the waiting list before 2:30pm!). Must have includes: Pork Xiao Long Bao, pork dumpling, shrimp har gow, and chicken gyoza.

Best Ever

I’ve never experienced and tasted better dumplings then here! I was a little suspicious at first because of the location but then saw the line, that went fast, and was quickly relieved. This is a MUST for any dumpling lover. Incredible great service and the pricing was VER reasonable. Rest assure this will be a stop for us on our next trip to San Francisco. Enjoy!!!

Dumping was Amazing

By Docstevew |

This is not a big place but it is packed every time that we are there. The dumplings are authentic, tasty, and very fresh. The service was friendly, and fast. If you want to have some fine Asian dumplings, this is the place to go in San Fran. I am a foodie and I loved this place :)

Nice restaurant!

By debs0712 |

We were 7 people for dinner and we arrived and put our name on the list. They immediately offered us an outside table but we decided to wait for a table inside. We waited about 25 minutes but they have a heated area to sit and wait. We ordered a real variety of dumplings, noodles and vegetables. Everything was very good. Especially the pea pods and tofu. Service was very fast and efficient!!

Delicious!!!

By Yicarrillo |

This is the best place ever. The waiting time takes a while but thats because the demand is high. Super good quality food! I went there with my family of three and tried almost everything on the menu . Their dessert buns are delicious and colorful. This restaurant is a little stuffy but not too bad . The baos are so fresh ! seafood gyozas are literally mouth watery . The service is great if you get the girl from new york!! There are videos playing on the back wall and you can eat in or outside .

Pure deliciousness

By herbstfam |

We brought our 4 teenage boys here after a very active day of surf lessons and running around San Francisco. We were starving and craving some really good food. Dumpling Time did not disappoint. There was a line when we arrived at 745 pm which we expected. We were 7th party waiting and didn't wait more than 30 minutes. We ordered about everything on the menu and it was all great but our favorites were the BBQ pork bao (we started with 2 orders and ordered 4 more for 18 buns!), Lamb dumplings, shrimp toast. For veggies the snap peas were awesome and the salad was good. Favorite dessert was the green tea Bao (we tried all three). I highly recommend this place!

Fantastic!

By myklrl |

This is a wonderful little place with authentic dumplings made fresh. Be prepared to wait as it is extremely popular and seating is limited. But it is well worth the wait and the prices are fair. I would highly recommend- possibly the best I’ve had since Hong Kong. Highly recommended!

Great Xiao Long Bao!

By flyingdoc99 |

This is a relatively new place (1 yr old), but the food is amazing. I have eaten here twice now and it's worth the journey. I would put the food on par with Din Tai Fung. Service is great and fast. Xiao long bao, noodles with pork, pork stickers -- all amazing!

Amazing!

By Kimberly S |

This restaurant truly was incredible from the food to the service. My two friends and I shared two types of soup dumplings and a veggie dumpling. For dessert we had the green tea and milk dumplings. I wish I lived nearby! The wait staff were attentive without being over bearing.

What they do, they do so well - no better place in SF for dumplings

By Val K |

If you can put up with a wait of typically 30 minutes, you will get great food at amazing value. Any of the dumplings are worth a try, though I prefer the fried or steamed every time. Suggest you stay away from the cocktails - stick to the beer This is a high volume establishment - so service is OK so long as you are quick - they are not that patient...........

Fast Food Dim Sum

By Coleman M |

Four of us had a late Sunday breakfast. I have eaten in Dim Sum restaurants in other US cities as well as Beijing. This reminds me not of the restaurants but the gyoza stalls on the streets. The tables are crowded, the service efficient but the atmosphere is of a fast food restaurant. The quality of the dumpling was excellent, if you do not ind them being dumped on the table all at once. Had I expected the atmosphere, would not have minded as much. But I do not go out for this style of fast eating. Not at all relaxing.

Staple of my trip

By Carla Brademan |

I travel to SF for work around the same time every year - I found Dumpling Time on Instagram, and convinced my coworker to come with me and try it last year. By the time we finished our first round of dumplings, we were hooked. When we traveled back to SF this year, we knew we had to return to Dumpling Time. The wait has gone down to about 15 minutes, and the dumplings are as good as ever. Get the Xiao Long Bao, the Main Lobster Siu Mai,and the Cucumber Quick Bite - and if you want more, just ask your server what you absolutely must get. Overall, great experience. Highly recommend to anyone visiting SF who also loves dumplings.

Great lunch

By JACKIE |

After our flight and it being past lunch time, this place was such a delight. Checking out other people's tables with various dishes (you know you do it, too) and the wonderful smell just had us anxious for all the food. I don't think we have any pictures because we got down to business as soon as the dumplings came out but all were good.

Quite the popular place

By Lynne A |

Great dumplings. Fast service. There is a line to get in but it didn't seem to stop most. The baos were amazing both steamed and pan fried also the noodles. Great find!!

Dim Sum Paradise

By James B |

Absolutely the best dim sum we have ever had. For starters, service was incredible, and fast. Many tasty options of tea and both local and imported beer selections. On to the dumplings! We ordered a few varieties, all were fantastic: pork gyoza, char siu bao, shrimp and cilantro har gow all made for a memorable lunch. MUST try the green tea and milk buns, they were worth the 6 hour flight from the east coast on their own!

Yummy dumplings

By Patti4709 |

A small spot with long waits is well worth it - the selection is excellent and tastes are varied. Opens at 5:30 and you can sign up around 5 to get your name on the list which we did and were taken in right on time. We sat in outdoor area as inside is a bit noisy with video going strong We can’t say what dumplings were the best but we sampled many - especially liked the soup dumplings and the shu mai Beer and wine and sake also available Come here if you like dumplings but try a weeknight if you can

Stuffed till I couldn’t move

By Holly B |

The food was absolutely amazing. The group ate and ate and ate until we thought we couldn’t eat anymore and then we still opted for the “Three Sum” dessert. All are good but the shrimp toast and the buns are extra special. It’s a must stop in SFO.

Yummy Dumplings!

By Noelle C |

I was looking for a good place to get some authentic and yummy dumplings and came across this place. We had the spring rolls, steamed pork and shrimp dumplings, bbq pork steamed buns and two orders of the boiled juicy pork dumplings. Every one of these selections was amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. We sat in the heated outside patio area. Great light dinner left plenty of room for dessert!

Amazing dumplings !

By Tim R |

Arriving only minutes after the restaurant opened for dinner at 5:00, the interior seating was already full. Fortunately, we were not made to wait and were given a table on the covered patio. This was actually a great table, as we were able to watch the dumpling makers up close through a large window. We ordered a selection of items with some recommendations from the server. Everything was fresh and fantastic. The clear standout was the seared, char-siu bao. I would have likely chosen a different bao given the "touch of peanut butter" in the description. But, this is one that the server HIGHLY recommended. And she was right. We got a second order ….. Great food. Great service. Reasonable prices.

I'd give it 3.5 stars - too much hype

By globbiztravel |

It was good, don't get me wrong but I've eaten dumplings, dim sum and other favorites all over the world. The atmosphere was cool and hip, felt like we were sitting in a hole in the wall in middle of Hong Kong. Wait was about 30 minutes on a Friday night. Staff were very friendly and service was not to shabby considering everything is made fresh.

There’s a Dumpling Heaven...

By ChefPennyTravels |

First of all if you have to wait... it’s worth it. These delicate and most delicious handmade treats are what dumpling heaven is made of. So many unique flavors. The lobster shumai is out of this world as are the Beijing noodles. These guys have turned to all over Asia for inspiration. Delicious teas, wines and oh yes desserts. After all they are the Omakase Restaurant group with multiple concepts including a Michelin star restaurant right here in SF. Look no further! Price point perfect. Enjoy!

Dumpling Heaven

By RaySF |

This new restaurant in San Francisco (opened seven weeks ago) occupies the space of a previous, popular vegan restaurant, Source. It appears that Dumpling Time is as popular when people line up before opening to get a table. I can attest to the quality and deliciousness of the dumplings, all made by hand on site. It's a well conceived and run place, which I hope enjoys a long stay in San Francisco's competitive restaurant business.

Yummy dumplings

By Reven T |

Very good dumplings, basic decor (did Chronicle reviewer get these two reversed?) Line to get in , but we knew that before we went. Waiters try to be fast, noisy. I will go back when I have the time.

Fantastic new dumpling spot

By Stuart C |

If you want to sample some incredible, freshly-made dumplings this is the spot for you as the dumplings are made on the premises in a kitchen viewable from the inside of the restaurant itself. Extremely busy during lunch hour (you'll likely need to wait) there is no problem if you go a little after 1pm. A great place to go if you are in a hurry since the elapsed time between placing an order and having the order delivered to your table is very short. I had the pork gyoza which was great, but the real star was the soup dumplings -- the squirt of soup as you burst the dumpling in your mouth is incredible!

Real, tasty, fantastic, fresh dumplings ever eaten! It is delight to watch how they are prepared and direct to your table, amazing. Thank you.

Yummy Meal

By Sophie B |

The restaurant opens foe dinner at 5:30 and does not take reservations so get there early. The food is all very fresh and dumplings and noodles are handmade and piping hot when they arrive. We ordered the shrimp toast, seafood gyoza, xi loong pork dumplings, shrimp cilantro har gow, Beijing noodles, cucumber salad and the Trio for dessert. Our favorites were the noodles, the har gow, and seafood gyoza. Service was great, place is clean and the food came quickly. Menu is limited but everything we tried were good. We will definitely come back again.

No frills restaurant with wonderful dumplings

By minnesotans4 |

Ever since going to Asia, we crave authentic dumplings. What a hidden gem! Be aware that they have an early closing time. We arrived 30 minutes prior to closing. There was a short line but we only waited a few minutes. There were long communal tables in the middle but that didn't matter because everyone is focused on eating the food. The prices were phenomenal too! We ordered the pork gyozas, shrimp har gow, and Xi'an pork dumplings all for $24 and there were three of us sharing. We would have ordered more but closing time was approaching. The owner was originally from Xi'an China. The recipes were inspired by the owner's mom, how authentic is that! Can't beat mom's cooking!! No reservations at this restaurant. Get there early to avoid the lines.

Seriously delicious

By Katie W |

These dumplings were worth the Uber to the soma neighborhood. I especially loved the BBQ pork buns, the gyoza and the green tea milk buns. I would recommend this to anyone because the service was fast and everything we got was delicious.

Excellent dumplings!!!

By LatteLovingHedgie |

This place is awesome and always busy! The line is long but it goes quickly!! It is very lively as well (if you’re looking for a quiet dinner this isn’t your place!) We got many items from the menu and the pork gyoza and lamb dumplings were the best!!! The chicken bao was disappointing (bland) and we wouldn’t get it again.

Very good, long wait

By lucychris23 |

Amazing dumplings, but we got there 20 mins after opening and still had a 30 minute wait in the cold, there’s no real system. Food and service was great though would recommend if your willing to wait

Amazing food Great Value!

By Lonnymo |

When you arrive at a restaurant on a Tuesday night and there is a crowd waiting outside you know you are on to a winner. When you arrive - add your name to the list on the board, it's worth the wait! Apparently the queue will be down the street at weekends! I am a fan of dim sum but have never tasted the like in the UK. The dumplings were just divine, I had a set with maine lobster, and another with mixed seafood. Can't wait to go back!!

Perfect XLBs

By Varun R |

If you want to have the best Xia Lao Bongs in SF then this is the place. No bookings so no choice but to be waitlisted for 15-20 minutes minimum. Worth the wait.

Totally The Bomb!

By ELDunlop |

Ok, finally reporting in on Dumpling Time Dim Sum in SF. It was fantastic! Probably THE best dim sum we’ve had in the Bay Area. SO much better than Koi Palace near us! We had 7 dishes plus tea. The Gan Bao noodle dish, garlicky green beans and beet dumplings split easily between 4 people, the rest you need to double up on-they are SO good! It was breakfast, lunch AND dinner rolled into one consumption time! Each dish was better than the next. GREAT waitstaff and albeit a VERY long wait to get in, fast service once ordered and served. Going to start to play more Lotto so we can go again. About $78 plus tip for just two of us-worth every dime! Very healthy, clean meal, but we did carb out! Had a Waksman seaweed salad too. Most impressive-The Maine lobster Siu Mei was the bomb! The beet wrapped Tom Yum Goong was really tasty-never had a beet wrapped dumpling previously! “Sweet” to my palate. Seafood Gyoza-Devine! Also the individually pressed Jazmine tea was lovely. We skipped dessert, mostly sweet bun type items. Maybe next time...IF we have room-lol!

Superb Dumplings

By The Other Jim H |

Ate lunch here with daughter and SIL on their recommendation. What a treat! The menu is small, but has plenty of different dumplings available. We ordered six different selections and shared them between the three of us. I loved the spices used for the filling, particularly the pork gyozas. Most pork dumplings are just meat and dough, relying on the sauce for zest. Not these. I'm not sure what the ingredients were, save the obvious, but I found the combo a great treat. The dumplings are made on site in an open kitchen, and brought to the table very fresh when ready, so you get a steady stream of goodies. Service was excellent. This is near the financial district and gets a crowd for lunch, so be warned: you may have to wait. There are plenty of tables, including several on a covered patio, where we sat. A great lunch spot.

Very fresh

By SJB411 |

XLB, har gow, char siu bao all came out super steamy and fresh. Good flavor good quality. Wagyu beef gyoza very good too. Draft Asahi is a plus. Would return.

Best dumplings ever!

By Alejandra F |

I have lunch with my friends and we order a bunch of stuff, everything was great, even my husband doesnt like lamb, but this dumpling lamb was out of this world!!!!! You can see that everything is fresh and homemade. Its a MUST to go,when you visit or live in San Francisco.

Overrated

By lmpenrose |

I really don't get the hype. I've been twice now, and both times the food was perfectly good. But for the price, and that long of a line?? Nope. I went back the second time because some friends were going and offered to treat me. If something like that came up again, sure, I'd go. I mean, it was good food. But there's plenty of good food in this city. Not planning to return.

Group seating is likely, but prices and vibe are worth it.

By Harper C |

I visited on Friday night with my aunt. We found the restaurant to have such a fun vibe and were further impressed by the low prices! The restaurant is small featuring two large communal tables a few two-person tables around. There is a covered outdoor seating area too. The restaurant has a cool mural on the wall, neon artwork and a large wall with projections of Asian music videos playing. If there are overhead lights, I didn't notice, it was dark and fun. The food was amazing. We had Veggie Spring Rolls, Seared Chicken Bao, Chicken Gyoza, and Veggie Dumplings. The total with tip came out to $36 and we had leftovers. We arrived around 5:20 pm on Friday and there was no line outside. Please note, they do not take reservations and there is often a line outside.

All around great place

By Angela1250 |

Amazing and authentic food in a low key, fun atmosphere Might experience a bit of a wait at dinner time but well worth your time! Everything we tried was delicious, service is prompt and friendly Would go there again and again and we’ve tried the whole menu! Try to get a table in the “main” dining area for the whole feel of the place View of open kitchen is incredible

Delicious

By F2821KRcarolinar |

We tried several dumplings and a noodle dish. Everything was delicious. I loved this place and will be on my must visit list in San Francisco.

Fusion Dumplings!

By Ljsw05 |

Have been hearing about this place for a while. Great atmosphere -- it was busy on Sunday morning. Lamb dumplings were so fun. BBQ pork bao (get it seared!) was so good. Parking could be a challenge during the work week, but easy access for Uber/taxi.

Easy to see why it's so busy!

By Chris C |

Turned up about 8:30pm on Friday night and there was a large gathering of people already waiting - worried we wouldn't get seated as they close at 9:30pm but relieved to find that as long as you're on the list then you will get seated. Staff managed the queue efficiently & we ended up waiting about 40 mins for a table. Well worth the wait - the food is so good. The wait staff were really helpful and friendly too. Would definitely recommend!

THE Dumpling place to eat

By Kelly L |

If you like Dumplings, THIS is the place to eat them. If you haven't eaten dumplings before (like me) THIS is the place to try them. I was a little hesitant to try them, but did try them and they are truly incredible. I am a real picky eater and liked everything I tried. Highly recommend Dumpling Time

AMAZING food. Still thinking about it weeks later.

By vivace1 |

I would never have known about this place except for Kyle the bellman at Hotel Adagio recommending it. It's not a tourist place, it's more for the locals. We decided to check it out. We did have a wait but not too long. We ordered a lot of different things including various dumplings, some teas, hand-made noodles. The flavors were complex, the ingredients top notch. This place has maine lobster and wagyu beef options...it isn't cut-rate meat shoved into some dumplings. We had things with lemongrass that were wonderful, gyoza, shu mai. Everything we ate was delicious. We almost went back the next night!! It was that good. I am telling everyone about this place. The food is delicious, the prices reasonable (for SF) and the waitress we had was cool & funny. There is crazy K-Pop band videos playing on the wall which kept distracting me in a funny way. Really good food.

Soup dumplings

By COEyeDoc |

Hot and delicious and perfect treat on a rainy San Francisco afternoon. The seafood varieties of dumplings weren’t my favorite as the flavors blended a bit too much but all other options were amazing! Quick to be seated at noon on Thursday and ate comfortably within 45 minutes. Beer for lunch is a nice option and like when restaurants are able to offer so that topped the cake. Would definitely come again!

First dumplings for me!

By nhcris |

This was my first time trying dumplings, and after this visit I am in love! After seeing a David Chang show featuring soup dumplings, we were on a mission to try them and selected Dumpling Time for this mission. Well, the soup dumplings were delicious, and so was everything else we ordered. Our server was very patient with us and made wonderful suggestions, since we were all novices. Among our favorites were all 3 of the soup dumplings, xi'am lamb dumplings, and the seared BBQ pork Bao. The Seafood Gyoza was amazing! We enjoyed everything about our experience, including the hustle and bustle, and now that I am back home, I am on a mission to find decent dumplings here in New England. I will definitely return to Dumpling King next time I am in San Francisco!

good little plates

By Bill N |

I did delivery of three dishes and found them above average but not great. Worth the time it took to consume them for sure and I'd order again for sure just not at the level of Yank Sing or other top notch dim sum places. Very good though, without doughy wrappers or soggy filliings. The food was fresh and well prepared and there was a flair for hints of distinctive flavor and very good dipping sauces too. There's no other big restaurants nearby; it's hard to find and has few from street traffic but it is near several big IT type companies and seems to teem with young IT types who aren't the most fascinating/interesting crowd in the world, but then again The Food's the Thing, right?

Great dumplings period

By yay83 |

Went with a group of 6 so we all got to try many types of dumplings. Didn't have a bad one nor had to wait a long time. You do need to have the entire party present to be seated. Just as a warning. A little disappointed that they didn't give my 14 year old niece something for her birthday but they did put a candle on one of the dessert dumplings.

Amazing dumplings

By Nicole |

Came here for dinner with family on a weekday night. The restaurant is very popular and the wait time says it all. We waited for a little over 30 minutes to get a table. The food is amazing and not just in taste. The presentation for some of their dishes is amazing as well. All the different dumplings are worth a try to find your favorite which is definitely hard. The noodle dish selection is also delicious. Service is okay since it's sometimes hard to flag down a waitress/waiter.

So yummy and fun.

By The_Pet_Dragonfly |

Totally worth a visit. Dumpling Time has a great range of dishes - mainly dumplings of course, but also noodles, salads, spring rolls and snacks. The restaurant is really trendy with a huge projection of K-pop music videos playing. It’s very relaxed with families, couples, groups and solo eaters all together. We arrived for about 4.45pm and got a table straight away, but as we left there were queues of people waiting for a table. We ordered 5 dishes to share between two, adding a 6th and some desserts on to our order later. I highly recommend the BBQ bao, the fried wagyu beef gyoza and the sweet egg yolk bun for dessert. We walked back from SoMo to Market street in about 20mins but a couple of the streets were a little dodgy.

Business Trip

By Krimebag |

While in San Francisco on business a co-worker of mine found this place and we walked over from our hotel room. There was quite a wait, but I'm telling you it was worth it! Very fresh tasty dumplings. We each got something different so we could try different ones and they were all great!

Go Go Go

By DOUGLAS C |

A combination of casual and quick service boosted by Outstanding and tasty food choices. We had the veggie Crispy Spring Rolls: very good. Followed by Chicken Bao (pastry-like bun), excellent; Mixed seafood gyoza, our favorite, and lamb dumplings, Sooo Good. Highly recommend!!. Good local beer selection, too.

Amazing dumplings!!

By Kaela |

We got there early to ensure we were there at opening - we arrived at 5 for a 5:30 opening. It paid off as we had no wait for a table and it's a pretty small place. Efficient service, good prices and everything we tried was amazing!!! Some highlights with our group were the shrimp toast, pork bao, gyoza and the egg yolk bun. It's fun to go with a group and split it all. We loved it and would definitely recommend - just get there early!

Amazing Dumpling in San Fran

By Christine L |

On a business trip I was perusing where to go to from my hotel and found this gem. I started with the cucumber fresno salad which was nice and light. I then ordered the Maine Lobster Siu Mai with truffle oil which was amazing. Liking truffle is key here but what a great fusion. Lastly I had the Chicken Gyoza which also was fantastic and unlike any I had before. I wish I could have kept going because I apparently missed out on the seafood gyoza which had several write ups as well as the soup dumplings. I will be back as these were seriously some of the best dumplings I have had and consider myself somewhat of a dumpling snob!

Terrific

By la901 |

Great Dim Sum and dumpling creations. Several I have never seen before. Casual atmosphere. You might want to get there when they open (11:00 AM) for assured seating, since they do fill up and there can be a wait. It's worth it.

Great Food

By Rebecca S |

This was my first time trying dim sum and I really enjoyed it. Everything was great - I had the XLB as well as the coconut soup version with a beet wrapper, the BBQ pork Bao, and the chicken gyoza. The gyoza are very different from what I’m used to (which likely aren’t authentic) and were very delicious. Not super expensive either

Fresh, Delicious Dumplings!

By KD2356 |

Although I am usually a huge fan of grabbing some insanely cheap dumplings in Chinatown, and heading down to the beach- this place is well worth it for a sit down dumpling meal. The wait can be long unless you get there right before the first seating, but I am big enough fan of the dumplings to brave the crowds. I especially love and highly recommend the soup dumplings (the big one is fine but the Tom Yum Goong and Pork XLB are divine). You can watch them making dumplings in the back if you have the right seats, and it is just a really lovely experience for dumpling lovers.

The Absolute Best

By karen2450 |

Worth the wait. At prime times it can be up to an hour but it is worth it!!!! Best dumplings on the PLANET. Pink soup dumplings are outstanding, as is everything else.

Queue for a delicious meal in a cool setting

By Jeremy Jacobs |

As a Brit, it's not in our culture to queue for food outside of London. It seems it's the norm for delicious food in major US cities so when I arrived to meet a friend for dinner on a Tuesday I knew it would be good. We didn't have to wait long. We were seated in the back of the restaurant. The place has a cool industrial vibe, it's trendy without being pretentious. The seating it very similar to these kind of dim sum/noodle bars, you may end up sharing a table with others but I love that. All the staff were friendly and service is quick. The food is reasonable priced and great value for the quality. Recommended.

Delicious!

By Sylvia F |

We’re not xiao long bao experts but they were delicious here! My mom always told me good XLB had a thin dumpling wrapper and these had it with a flavorful soup and ginger pork filling. (The pork dumplings didn’t have the crab topping which my husband preferred). The place was busy with a wait on a weekday night so we took that as a good sign. Service was fast and friendly, food arrived quickly piping hot. Nice presentation and we appreciated that everything was seasoned just right (not overly salty). Coming from Hawaii where food costs an arm and a leg, we felt the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of ingredients. Definitely a place we would eat at regularly if we lived here.

Amazingly delicious and great value

By Rose R |

We got here around 5:00pm for an early dinner (belly still on EST) and there was no wait - place was already packed. It was just two of us and FYI, they do communal seating. Service is good and the food comes out hot and fresh. Had a wonderful oolong tea. We got gingered snap peas, the vegetarian Xi’an dumplings (good but these were my least favorite), the beautiful Tom yum goong soup dumplings and our favorites the lobster siu mai and the seafood gyoza. Also got the trio of dessert buns. Everything was super flavorful and beautifully presented. If I lived here I would eat here all the time. The best meal of our week! I don’t think you can go wrong with trying anything on the menu.

No Fuss Great Dim Sum

By James M |

Went for lunch in midweek - 11.30 to be sure to get a table. Two dishes seem to be enough, although a fifth between two would make sure. Five people enjoyed everything we ordered. My own favourite was a seafood kind of pancake, but the soup dumplings are excellent too. No frills didn't seem to matter to the nicely mixed crowd who were there the time we went.

High quality and freshly made!

By Kim d |

Have been here a few times now and each time has delivered amazing quality dumplings and really attentive service. There can be a bit of a wait in the evenings but all the dumplings get freshly made for each order - so well worth it! The menu offers a good range without being overwhelmingly long. I would recommend 2-3 plates per person, but you can always order more as you go. Great authentic flavors!

Some of the best Dumplings in the city!

By Megan W |

This place is AMAZING! Some of the best dumplings and buns in SF. Definitely a more trendy atmosphere as opposed to a dumpling spot in Chinatown but it's worth the wait! You can see them making the dumplings right as you walk in. Love going here for dumpling cravings!

Late night delivery

By roots_reggae |

We had a big lunch, so no one was hungry until later in the evening. No one felt like going out to eat either, so we ordered delivery through Caviar from Dumpling Time. The garlic green beans were crisp and crunchy and not overly salty, the char siu bao were smaller than we are used to in Hawai`i, but they were delicious and the peanut butter was not detectable, The "soup dumplings" were excellent as was the shrimp toast (didn't have high expectations of that but it was one of the best items sampled). The dessert bao trio was a sweet (but not too sweet) ending to the meal. Four stars instead of five just because of the LONG delivery time,

Worth the wait

By IKG |

First off, I love dumplings so I was incredibly excited to eat here. There was a 35 minute wait which we endured because we could overhear the other patrons planning what they were going to order and reminiscing about what they ate last week and the week before and if they were willing to wait 1/2 hour it must be good. We were finally seated. Atmosphere was cute, Japanese trendy and kinda loud. Service was quick. We ordered shrimp toast, seared tofu, dry noodles. seared pork buns and soup dumplings which was the star of our meal. I LITERALLY CRIED it was so good. Dinner for 3 without cocktails cost less than $50. I'd definitely go back

The food was excellent

By Quills G |

I went here for a luncheon and I totally enjoyed the food. The dumplings were tasty and fresh. I also loved the Lotus chips and potstickers. Definitely will be coming back.

We were staying near Hayes Valley so we decided to try out Dumpling Time for dinner one night. There was a queue but it went quickly and the two of us were seated within 15 minutes. Food was DELISH and service was fast! Nice heated outside patio too. Highly recommend!

Seriously. Stop reading. Put down your screen and go to this place. I'm one of those crazy dumpling fanatics and this place is near or at the pinicle of their craft. We ordered most of the dumplings they offered with repeats on the Tom Yum Gao and Seafood Goyoza. Even the green tea dessert bao were excellent. I live in NC and can't wait for a return trip to spend more time here. Very memorable.

Best dumplings I have had in SF!

Dumpling time was the best dumplings I have had in SF. We ordered the tom yum soup dumplings and the pork soup dumplings - both were incredible! The tom yum is like nothing I have ever tasted! We also tried the seared chicken bao buns, and those did not disappoint either. The only this we didn't love was the pork chilie dumplings. They were good not great. We cannot wait to come back and try more yummy items!
