Great Amish Cooking

By Linda S |

This is one of the best places to enjoy a home cooked meal in the Reading Terminal Market, in Center City Phila. The portions are huge, like the pancake breakfast special and turkey burger lunch special. Also, the chicken corn chowder soup is tasty and filling, especially on a chilly day. Go early because the counter seating fills up quickly. Menu items are also available for take out.

good tasty scrapple

By sassie cassie |

didn't know what scrapple was till now. it was pretty tasty, kind of on the heavy side but it definitely filled your belly before walking around. with some eggs and a cup of coffee, you can have breakfast for less than $8.

THE BEST!!!!

By Stephani S |

We will make sure our next stay has us closer to the Reading Terminal Market. We had the MOST AMAZING breakfast there then went back the same afternoon to have a baked apple. Best service as well. Struck up several conversations with locals. Just a really nice experience.

Go here for any meal!

By David S |

Pancakes the size of hubcaps and hamburgers to rival anywhere else. You can go here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and get a fine meal anytime.

Yummy breakfast

By Citygirl714 |

Huge portions of hearty Penn Dutch fare, not for the faint of heart or anyone watching calories. Service with a smile.

Great Breakfast

By Marcia C |

The Apple Cinnamon French toast with turkey Bacon was the BOMB!! coffee was hot & great, the juice was fresh. the staff and other patrons were friendly at the counter style diner. the food that others got looked great too. You must experience this place if you are in Philly, be prepared to wait for a table .

Home Cooked Food & Reasonable Prices - Dutch Eating Place Wins!

By wanderlustlife |

The Dutch Eating Place is my go to get a quick breakfast and lunch spot in the Reading Terminal. I have taken my out of town visitors there often, when the night before activities make me lazy and not willing to cook. The Dutch Eating Place is Amish home cooked, comfort food for everyone. They prepare to order and the servers are on point, as well as very friendly. You might have to wait on line if you go on a Friday or Saturday, so be prepared, but so worth it. Blueberry pancakes with crispy turkey bacon with fresh squeezed orange juice is my staple meal. Oh, their home fries!

Cheap and cheerful, with caring service

By F&W Critic |

A great cheap eats place- anyone could make an omelette but what stood out was their homemade strawberry jam on the counter and the caring service we received. The orange juice was just that, freshly squeezed. Damn it was good..... go for the service. This is a good place if you're pressed for time.

The wait was worth it

By GADawgGa |

We visited Philly last week and our group of four dined at this restaurant. There was a wait for about 15 minutes, but it was worth it. We had breakfast and it was great. Also, servings were huge and prices were low. Excellent food and service.

Don’t forget your “Apple dumpling a Day Shirt”!

By Ellie R |

This place was incredible. I ordered a bacon jam sandwich (I don’t typically eat pork, but the recommendation was stellar so I didn’t want to miss an opportunity!) and it did not disappoint. My bestie ordered a Swiss and spinach omelet, and she felt similarly. We both ordered apple dumplings and we loveeeeed them, and I also don’t even like apples that much but HOLY COW. It has a whole cored and peeled apple with cinnamon and happiness, heated to perfection. She had it with heavy cream and I had mine with whipped cream, and we left fat and happy- no wrong choices made. The line goes quickly to sit, and there’s plenty to see while you wait. The coffee was delightful, and I got a weirdly delicious green drink and that’s also not typical of me. Lots of new things tried, no disappointment whatsoever. 10/10 recommend. 🥰

DELICIOUS and Large portions! Homemade and Fresh!

By 93015 |

In the Reading Market Terminal and what a gem! Large portions for such a reasonable price. Everything is fresh, large and YUMMY!! So wonderful to taste fresh OJ, eggs, and bacon! You must stop here in the morning and it will fill you till dinner! May have a bit of a wait as they are popular; so worth it!!

Best apple dumpling

By Questa321 |

Best apple dumpling I’ve ever had it was sensational and we would highly recommend trying this. I would go back to Philly just for this.

Must have dessert -- Apple dumpling

By Alexandra K |

Hot-served, flaky, delicious goodness !! Very quick service. Whipped cream or heavy cream. 4$ for one. Could be shared by 2 people.

Must Try!!

By Soars37 |

The Reading Market is closed on Federal holidays -- bummer! We were pleased to be able to get breakfast at the Market the next day. Terrific menu of specials! My favorite: pumpkin pancakes! a generous serving, comes with an egg (any way) and meat. It was one of the smaller breakfasts, but still more than I could eat. Other specials featured blueberry pancakes, lots or breakfast sandwiches, and there were lots of large (!!) breakfasts! Also a big fan of their lunch menu which is extensive. Terrific chicken bacon club and the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had. If you are in Center City, don't miss the Market!!

Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Friendly service. Great coffee Omelettes were perfectly made Home fries had a great crust Reading Market has limited seating but staff was efficient in moving diners in and out

Really good food

By stephb6 |

I wish I had had more time to try more things but we only had one day at Reading Terminal. All of the food coming out looked (and smelled) amazing. I only had time to order a piece of shoo fly pie. I had it heated and with whipped cream. I had read that this was a must try dish. I have to say I have never eaten anything like it. You should get it for that reason alone. I couldn't decide what part I liked best, and I honestly think it kept changing. First I was enjoying the buttery crust, then it was the molasses filling, and the not so sweet sorry of crumbly cake top. Each layer was completely different. None of it is too sweet or too strong as to be overwhelming. It is nicely balanced and really delicious. The apple dumplings here also looked amazing so I recommend getting one of each and sharing them!

Apple Dumpling Divinity

By Brenda B |

It's true what they say about the apple dumpling, wow. The take out line went pretty fast since they already had some dumplings made. I ordered one without the ice cream. Heavy cream was suggested and it was greatly appreciated later. Be prepared to wait, this is a busy place without much seating.

Amazing

By deeppurple1509 |

What a fantastic place to go too. We had ate in another place there twice which was very good too, but this place is great, staff are lovely friendly and helpful. great mix of Amish Mennonite and non Amish/Mennonite staff. Food was plentiful and fantastic. Definitely recommend

Not bad

By Vetal S |

This place was referred by my friend as a great spot to get a lunch or breakfast. I would not say it’s great but good enough . Doesn’t worth to stay in line which I did . But what really good is price and portions of meals u get . I had theirs special turkey platter which I kinda liked , also fresh- squeezed orange juice that gave me so much energy for all day . I know that this cafe was there for a while so I think u should try it . I would recommend this spot if there is no line .

Great food !

By Passenger717400 |

The food here is fantastic, service was the best ! This place is a true gem , it's inside the Reading Terminal Market, a must stop !

Crowded but great food, pricing and service

By L H |

This place is located inside of the Reading Terminal Mall. The TA reviews were good on this place and since it was so close to our hotel, which didn’t offer breakfast, we decided to give it a try before starting the day. We are so glad we did and highly recommend it for a quick, delicious breakfast. We arrived before 8:30 and it was already very crowded. There is only counter seating on stools, something like a diner, and they were all full. But let me tell you the Amish definitely know good customer service. They were preparing, serving and clearing non-stop. So it didn’t take long for two seats to become available. A line had started to form after we were seated. The menu is standard breakfast offerings and the pricing can’t be beat. We were able to order quickly and the food arrived just as quickly with the servers being very friendly, courteous and pleasant. The food was very good as well and they have whatever condiments you might need and delicious fresh jam. The bacon had a bit more fat than I like but it was fried up crispy. Everything was really clean too. So plan to visit and eat a meal here if you are in downtown Philly.

breakfast

By Caroline W |

pancakes are huge. Dont let "short stack" fool you! there can be a wait so be prepared but the food is so good.

Good breakfast

By Brendan S |

This restaurant in Reading Terminal market has counter-top dining service. The server was very friendly and attentive, which was impressive considering how many people were here. Also impressive were the dutch apple french toast, bacon and coffee.

get the Apple Dumpling!

By Von1287 |

This was something we had seen on YouTube videos and really wanted to try. The dumpling is doughy, the sauce is sweet, and the whole thing is just decadent. They warm it up nicely and it was easy enough to eat at a high table nearby. so good!

The food here is the best (Don't bother counting calories here)!

By Justin W |

I LOVE eating at the Dutch Eating Place for the huge portions of excellent home cooking and Pennsylvania Dutch cooking from the Amish country. I will let you know if you are on a diet or counting calories in any way, don't bother eating here. This is a restaurant for good home cooking made with butter, thick gravies, pork sausage and fresh bacon. I came first for breakfast and had the Apple French Toast with a side of pork sausage and a scrambled egg. The breakfast was amazing as you can taste the fresh churned butter in the dish and topped on the French Toast. The bread was freshly baked and the sausage was homemade and had a nice taste of sage in it. The scrambled egg was cooked in butter and you could taste it in every bite. The French Toast had a nice caramelization because of the butter and the sweetness of the fresh apples and cinnamon was just delicious. Once you put the syrup on you will want to lick the plate. The sausage and the bacon here are made by their butchers and you taste the smokiness and the seasonings in every bite. The service could not have been nicer. I also went back for lunch after the Flower Show and had their turkey sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes. This is delicious with layers of freshly roasted turkey on it between two slices of freshly baked bread and loaded with turkey gravy. The mashed potatoes were loaded with slabs of butter and served with sides of cole slaw and cranberry sauce. It was nice to cut into it and mix all the flavors together. Again if you like down home cooking, this is the place for you.

What a great affordable dining option inside the reading market terminal. We would definitely return again.

Best Reuben in Philly

By HLarson3 |

I visited the Reading Terminal Market and stopped here for a Reuben. Since then, I’ve been trying to find a better Reuben, but I don’t think it exists. Friendly staff, rock bottom prices, great location. Check it out!

Dutch country and great food

By Ernessa J |

They opened at 8am Went at 8:30am on a Tuesday morning and was already crowded. Seating area and line was full. Hearty hefty servings and reasonably priced.

Solid Breakfast....

By JCW703 |

Had a decent breakfast here- good service and nice, quality food. I'm not sure if it falls in the "deal" category, price wise, but we didn't leave hungry. Certainly worth trying once.

Not the Best for Lunch

By John H |

This used to be the place -- and it may still be for breakfast but lunch yesterday was disappointing. The restaurant is at the north end of the Reading Terminal Market with counter seating only. Used to be if you wanted a great Amish style breakfast, this was the place! But I stopped by for lunch. Ordered homemade ham and bean soup and a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Not an Amish meal at all. And I wish I had not ordered it. I believe there was one piece of ham in a very crowded cup of beans. The sandwich was okay - it just wasn't spectacular. One plus - you can be entertained sitting at the counter. Across from us a woman showed up with a guy in tow. She said she met him outside the market while trying to parallel park. He gave her some guidance and she decided to buy the guy lunch. She admitted she might be "crazy" and he was the type of guy who, once he got French fries, unscrewed the cap to the mustard container and started dunking his fries into the bottle. The waitress spotted him, took away the mustard bottle and gave him a dish with some mustard on it. The guy wasn't phased, he continued ranting to the woman who said she couldn't decide if it would be pie or cake or something else for dessert. Next time I'll stop by if it's breakfast and see how it goes.

Best breakfast place

By Global07866960591 |

It is my favorite place in the Market. I go every year for breakfast. Great service, price and real flavors.

Fantastic breakfast choice

By David F |

Quick, tasty, and quite reasonable. Get there early if you want a seat at the counter or else you’re standing in line. Had breakfast twice there in my visit to Philadelphia

A great experience

By robnaudrey |

The food is solid. It’s not a franchise so it’s not always consistent, but in general you can count on a very good meal. Try the scrapple. The service is great, and the scene is so Philly. My favorite spot in the market, which in my humble opinion is the best public market in the country.

Amazing breakfast

By spoiledrotten1 |

We were staying in a hotel across the street and decided to try this for breakfast. Wow, what a find! It was a Saturday morning and there was not a seat to be had and quite a long line, we decided to get takeout. Three of us shared the blueberry pancakes, Mushroom and cheese omelet and the not to e missed apple dumpling. The portions are huge. Will definitely be back if in the area again.

Great place for breakfast!

By Marius789 |

Great place for breakfast. Really big portions (I could not finish it even though I was very hungry) at very acceptable prices. All dishes come with coffee or fresh orange juice (really good). Really recommend it for breakfast!

so good!

By Ben H |

My wife and I had breakfast at the Dutch Eating Place while on vacation in Philly. It was excellent. The food was superb, friendly service and reasonably priced. I had the Blueberry pancakes and my wife had the chipped beef on toast. Both of our meals could have fed two more people. I will be back when in Philly!

This food is so GOOD!

By Robert S |

This place is really fun. They have takeout, but the real treat is to sit at the counter, elbow to elbow, with the rest of the crowd and have a great rid sticking meal. We came for breakfast and enjoyed the food, the staff and the camaraderie. A great choice when hungry.

Real food, made well.

By Linder24 |

Everything is made from scratch. The first time I stopped by, my order was to-go, and while I waited for my food, I watched the ladies work in the kitchen. They really know what they're doing. My grilled pecan sticky bun was so good, I went back the next day and had breakfast at the counter. Fast and friendly service, and surprisingly inexpensive.

Apple. Dumpling.

By Rebecca |

Ate here twice while on a trip to Philadelphia in April 2019. Enjoyed the chicken pot pie (which turned out to be more of a soup) and the turkey dinner. Both were very delicious, but by far the apple dumplings stole the show. You cannot visit Philadelphia without trying those apple dumplings!

Must go for breakfast!

By Zblondchef |

This restaurant is inside the reading terminal market. It is a small counter seating eating place only. Make sure to get in the right line if you want to sit and eat at the counter. They do to go’s as well. There is seating the market where you could eat you to go as an option. Food was really good, good portions for great price. We ordered the stack of 3 pancakes which was huge for 2 of us. The grilled sticky bun was delicious and enjoyed the thin sliced home fries. The chocolate milk is the real deal too!

Worth a Trip

By VintageDM |

Had a version of chick and dumpling. Actually had two bowls. Closes early on Saturday so get there early as there were a lot of folks coming by after they closed and a couple of us were still eating.

Good value and flavors

By travelingcoinman |

Fresh and generous portions. This place is worth a few minutes of wait time and everything our party tried there was well liked.

Fantastic homemade Food with wonderful service

By ScubaKimmy |

Popped in to check out Reading Terminal Market and walked by someone eating a hot turkey sandwich with real mashed potatoes and gravy. After walking around the rest of the market I knew exactly what I wanted to eat. For under $10 I got a giant plate of exceptional food with friendly, efficient, knowledgeable service. There is no way I could eat all of the meal it was just so large. The turkey was actual roast turkey not deli meat and my favourite food of all, mashed potatoes, were fresh real potatoes with some of the best gravy I have ever eaten. I will definitely eat here again before I leave Philly

Great food! Reasonable value.

By Jerry R |

We go to this place for breakfast every time we visit our daughter in Warminster - a one hour train ride away. Terrific food at a fair price. There may be a waiting line, but it's worth the wait. Best to go between 9:30 and 11am on a weekday.

Hit The Spot After 13.1!

By Pat W |

Delicious comfort food! I was sore and starving after the Philly 1/2 Marathon. The roast beef between two pieces of white bread smothered in brown gravy with mashed potatoes made the aches and pain seem worth it with every bite! It is one of the few places with seating. I will be back the next time that I am in Philly! The wait staff is hardworking and attentive. A great spot!

Affordable and Tasty

By Kinda Invisible |

First, a note to the staff to please put on a mask or wear your mask properly. Okay, got that out of the way. Yowza if you want food that's delicious at a remarkable price, eat here! Inside the Reading Market we noticed right away that it had a huge crowd around it. After ordering breakfast we received our to-go order in a flash. One of our diners didn't realize that her breakfast sandwich came with mayo on it and they made her new one at no cost. We're impressed and hope everyone gives them a try.

A great place to eat

By C.P.T. |

Heard great things about this place in a food tour and online. Since I wanted to try the Scrapple, amongst other things, I found this was one of the places I could do it while being in Reading Terminal Market. So glad I took a chance for breakfast here to have not only that but Chicken Pot Pie, a lunch dish despite it being breakfast time, that they generously accommodated me with. One of the best breakfast I had during my week in the city. Especially after enjoying an Amish country day trip earlier in the week, I was happy to visit such a place as this one, that lived up to its recommendations. Would 10/10 eat there again.

Great name for a restaurant with great food

By Greg O |

My wife and I stopped in here for our third consecutive lunch while visiting Philly. We sat at the counter and ordered two soft drinks and two entrees; cold turkey sandwich and hot turkey sandwich. Service was fast and friendly. Food was hot and tasty. Cost was ~$40 all in, with tax and tip. Really great spot!

Huge Blueberry Pancakes

By carmen l |

This breakfast spot (Dutch Eating Place) is definitely a happening and very busy. The prices are extremely reasonable and you get a lot of food for your buck. Note the specials before ordering. We could have had bacon and coffee but noticed it after we ordered. The pancakes are huge and can easily feed four kids or two adults. There is a place to eat 60's diner style but there is a wait. You can take your food to go because there are nearby tables by Amy's Place but there aren't a lot.

Fabulous food and service

By vegasrugbyref |

By luck stumbled across this eatery inside Reading Terminal. Diner style. Massive servings. Great friendly people. Highly recommended.

Busy for a reason

By sully011 |

If you love food this is the place to be. It doesn't matter what you order it will be amazing. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the counter after trying several times. The staff are so friendly, attentive and the place runs like a well oiled machine . I had the cup of chilli followed by an apple dumpling with heavy cream. It was divine. My husband and son had the cheeseburger and fries and said it was one of the tastiest burgers they ever had. I would definitely recommend a visit .

A good choice when visiting Reading Market

By btouro |

This was my wife's first visit to Philadelphia and I had visited several years earlier and told her about Reading Market, which you have to see and experience first hand. We arrived early and walked the many aisles viewing food choices and delicacies from around the globe. As we walked by the counter at the Dutch Eating Place, we couldn't help but notice the gigantic portions of breakfast meals being served. Looking up at the large menu sign, we took note of an Open Hot Turkey Sandwich plate and as we contemplated the choice, we continued to walk the hall. We ended up returning back and fortunately lunch menu was offered beginning at 10:30 am. It being 10:35 we met the buzzer. My wife and I both ordered the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, drenched in turkey gravy and served with cole slaw and cranberry sauce. A few moments later, the Amish server brought us our plates dripping gravy on the floor, counter and everywhere. Kind of funny, but a very serious plate dripping with a lot of food and gravy, gravy everywhere. I would say there was close to if not more than a pound of sliced white breast turkey meat in the sandwich. Two slices of bread sandwiched the meat, with a helping serving of mashed potato all drenched in the gravy. As I perused not only my plate but breakfast meals of other patrons, I realized this is one place that is hazardous to people on diets, which normally includes us, but when on vacation, do as the PA Dutch do and eat happily. Aside from the volume it was tasty, hot, good and satisfying. We were amazed at the inexpensive meal prices, the food quality and the volume of food, Not for the faint of heart, but oh so worth the experience. Suffice to say this was our #1 bargain experience of our month long trip so far and I doubt if that will change.

Breakfast

By mamabelz |

We had breakfast here. Sign said they are now open on Mondays; and breakfast is served til 2pm and lunch menu starts at 10:30am. There was a line but it was moving. We got the Friday special of blueberry pancakes which was a very big portion. It was really good and fluffy 👍🏼 I had the western omelet which had a lot of sautéed ham in it. It came with rye bread and strawberry spread on table was also very good. I saw home style fries which looked good but didn’t have room to try.

Family, breakfast

Fast, efficient, good price. Attention from friendly staff. Clean. Abundant. Delicious pancakes and freshly brewed eggs.

Delicious

By ladybug6500 |

Stopped here after the Philadelphia Flower show. It's located in the Market Place across the street from the Convention center. Counter seating. Closes early. Great soups! Chicken Corn chowder with big chunks of chicken, veggies, corn and even boiled eggs. So good! The people next to us had open face Turkey sandwiches, that came with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and coleslaw. They split the meal it was enough for 2. We finished with the Apple Dumplings! To die for. So tempting when they ask if you want whipped cream or heavy cream on top. Can't wait to go back!

Comfort food

By eedwards469 |

If you need comfort food - this is the place to be. Can't go wrong. It does get very busy, so there is a wait.

Best breakfast in Philly

By JNFII |

The Dutch Eating Place is located in Reading Terminal Market and fills up fast. The market opens officially at 8am but some of the eateries open as early as 7am. The earlier you can get to this place, the better. No tables, just a wrap around counter with stools. Staff is Amish and incredibly friendly. Food is cooked fresh with massive portions and considerably inexpensive (bottomless coffee for $1). Enjoy!

Ate here twice

By BagmanNZ |

I ate here twice and it was not enough. The food is excellent - huge meals with flavour that leaves you wanting more and more and more. The cost was superb. Truly great quality diner food at excellent prices. I could eat here forever. Don't miss it.

A MUST for breakfast!

By Kaitlyn K |

The little wait online, 15-20 mins, is soooo worth the food! I went here one morning for breakfast and would of went the next morning, but they are closed on Sundays. :/ I had the western omelette, which was featured, and it was the best omelette I ever had! The meat inside was amazing and there was just enough cheese/onions. My boyfriend had the hotcakes and they were huge!! Plus soooo good. I am definitely eating here the next time I visit Philly!

Oh my Lord!

By Nina044 |

This is my second visit to this place at the Reading Terminal which is a MUST in Philly. This is good Amish country food. I saw the size of the pancakes so fortunately only ordered one blueberry one and I got a side of the most delicious pork sausage. Coffee was good too. It was super delicious. I tried my friend's scrapple which was ok and very rich and my hubby had fries with like a cornbeef roux cheesy sauce on top. Too rich for me also but he ate the lot. We couldn't believe the guy opposite us ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and a stack of pancakes. The pancakes were the size of a house! Loved it. Service was great.

Ginormous Blueberry pancakes!

By Gil P |

Wow. The blueberries pancakes are ginormous. My wife and I really loved them. The Apple cinnamon french toast were also outstanding. The fresh squeezed orange juice a must. One can’t eat this much for breakfast every day but it is worth it.

Fun place to eat with great service

By CVTravelers |

We were able to find two seats at the counter so we tried the breakfast menu. My wife had the Cinnamon French toast and I had the blueberry pancakes. While the service was super friendly and the coffee hot and plentiful, we were both underwhelmed by the food. Both dishes were good but sort of fell flat for us. The French toast had only a very light cinnamon taste and the blueberry pancakes were very thick and doughy. The overall experience was good and we enjoyed dining here but not sure on the food.

Nice local place

By Claire F |

Stopped here for breakfast before leaving town and it was full of locals which is always a good sign. The food was good value for huge portions (neither of us finished our food) and the staff friendly. Worth a quick stop if you’re in the area.

Yum!

By Kristina C |

I love breakfast, in general. The Dutch Eating Place was one of the best breakfast's I've ever had. Everything we ordered was delicious. The apple cinnamon french toast wasn't too heavy or too sweet. The scrapple was very tasty and tender. The chipped beef with gravy over home fries was creamy goodness. The orange juice was sweet and freshly squeezed. The price is very good for the amount of food. You definitely walk away full. And, if you're really hungry, get the pancakes (they're as large as the plate they come on). The staff is very friendly and attentive. Our server always had a big smile on her face when she came by. Note, the wait for a seat wasn't long for two little. If you have a larger group, you may wait a while as space is limited.

Love this place

By Yola900 |

I am visiting from New Jersey and every time I an in Philadelphia I make a mandatory stop here. I must have tried everything on the menu from the fresh omelettes to pancakes and Turkey this is must for cheap quality and fresh food

Great Food. Great Place to Watch the Natives

By Wesley W |

Recommended by a local; my second breakfast visit. This is a REAL diner with REAL people sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. There was a line waiting when the place opened at 8 am. The food is great; I’m a big man and couldn’t finish one pancake! And that big dollop of butter...definitely not for the cholesterol challenged! Hell, even the coffee was great and I’m a Starbucks diehard! I understand Javan to be the owner. He was engaging with all the customers. Whenever I’m in Philly I plan to make this experience a part of my visit.

SO. GOOD.

By Noble_Scribe |

I'll be honest; we walked in tired and hungry, desperate for a cheese steak (don't call it a "Philly cheese steak"; you're already there). This was one of the first places we came to and the six seats in a row we needed for our party opened just as we walked past. Our orders were taken promptly, and then we had regret. We stopped at the first place we came to, it was a "Dutch Eating Place" and not a famous cheese steak spot, and there didn't appear to be a line. We were sure we'd messed up. Our Philly friends were going to be mad at us. We were wrong. Y'all, this place is renowned. And it was SO. GOOD. The service was first-rate, the food was FANTASTIC, and we found out later that this place has been featured on Food Network. It was GOOD. There are other cheese steak stalls in Reading Terminal Market. But this is a great option and we were highly impressed.

Great experience

By Jackny56 |

Amazing food and service. Server was incredible and recommended the best specialties of the house. Would definitely go again.

Was visiting for the Flower Show and ate their twice

By Justin W |

I arrived into Philadelphia for the last weekend of the Flower Show and a B-line to the Dutch Eating Place for lunch. I love the food here. The first day of the show, I had lunch here snd had a delicious Chicken Pot Pie. It was out of the world. The pie was filled with fresh chicken, peas and carrots in a thick gravy and a golden crust. It was served with home made Cole slaw and Apple Sauce. I really enjoyed my meal. I was still hungry and I ordered an Apple Dumpling with whipped cream. I highly recommend having this for dessert. They are delicious. The apples are so sweet and the pastry so buttery and rich. I was so pleased with my meal that I went back the next day for breakfast. I love the breakfasts here and I ordered the Apple French Toast with a side of sausage and a scrambled egg. Everything was delicious at breakfast as well. The French Toast was outstanding sweet with lots of cinnamon and a slab of fresh butter on the side. The French Toast and eggs were cooked in clarified butter and that’s what gave them their rich flavor. The sausage was homemade from their butcher in the market and they were smoked and cured perfectly. Between the food, service and prices here, I love coming here every time I am in town.

Just Go.....

By foodie412 |

I love this place. The food is always great and some of the people you meet are fascinating. The apple dumpling with cream is something that everyone should have at least once in their life, because it is simply divine!

OMG good!

By David F |

Had to try the local delicacy, Scrapple. It was alright, still prefer bacon as my pork choice, but locals seem to love it. So when in Rome... Bu the pancakes were bigger than a baby! and good! Ate breakfast here twice in my four day trip

Best Breakfast Ever!

By Ernest P |

Awesome blueberry pancakes and scrapple. Pancakes drenched in butter. Eat in or to go. Counter can be a while if busy but the line moves fast.

Great breakfast option.

Amidst the general hubbub of Reading Terminal Market is a place with excellent, friendly service and good food. Highly recommend!

Food to go... with gravy!

What better way to spend a Grey day as a “conference spouse” than to get an old fashioned hot roast beef San with potatoes and gravy? Good times at the Reading Mall, with some seriously good food

Very good and different food

By Eddie N |

I am here on business and my customers wanted us to revisit this restaurant again. We have tried several dishes and all were tasty and well prepared

Hard to choose!

By Kasey S. |

We came here for brunch for our first meal in Philly. We had such a hard time deciding what to order....everything looked amazing! We ended up having the Apple Cinnamon French Toast, one hot cake, bacon, and Beef Tips with gravy. It was all delicious!

So so good!

By Rochelle B |

I had read up on where to eating within Reading Terminal Market and I had decided I definitely needed to get an apple dumpling from here. I intended to get just the apple dumpling for lunch, but everything sounded so good on the menu, I ended up getting a Western omelette. The omelette was huge and very good, and the homemade strawberry jam the server gave me was fantastic! I boxed up the remains of my omelette and got a warm apple dumpling with whipped cream. It was massive and phenomenal! The food was excellent and very affordable and the service was great! You can't go wrong here! (Unless you're trying to lose weight, because this is not the spot!) 😉

A great stop

Amazing panda d bacon special fresh and fast and affordable. This is the place to go if you want a simple homemade meal. This is a dangerous place to work near I’d be here every meal if I could.

Very Good Breakfast

By Kathy D |

The food here is really good. You receive a hefty portion. I think the prices could be a little bit less. Like if you want onions on your hash browns it cost extra. Overall, very tasty.

Two seats at the counter

By Dayess |

It was cold and damp outside but the hustle and bustle of the Reading Terminal Market is hard to resist as is this Amish down-home eatery. We snagged to seats at the counter, the server and manager (I guess) were friendly and very nice to talk to. All we had were two bowls of delicious, hot, filling beef vegetable soup and an iced tea. All the sandwiches and platters coming out of the kitchen looked delicious and now we can't wait to try something else. I think this is a great little space in a hectic market. You will not leave hungry but you will leave satisfied!

The best Hot Turkey platter for lunch

By Justin W |

I always stop at the Dutch Eating Place for lunch and breakfast when I am in Philadelphia. The food and the service are terrific and the prices are fair. I had missed Thanksgiving with my family so I ordered the Hot Turkey sandwich with Cole slaw and cranberry sauce. Not only is the portion size large but the sandwich is delicious with the most wonderful gravy. It was the perfect lunch/dinner. The service is always very friendly with the ladies working there knowing how to read the customers. No matter how busy they get, they are always patient and very pleasant and I enjoy talking to them.

Great food and large portions

By UPNorthguy41990 |

Staff is super friendly and food is outstanding and large portions. Went for breakfast and everyone loved their order. Also got on of the famous apple Dumplings to go, and that did not disappoint!

First time

By shd499 |

On our first trip to Philly we wanted to go to the Reading Market Terminal. As we went by the Dutch Eating Place and saw the food everyone one was eating and we knew we had to try it. Very Friendly and the food was great. The grilled pecan sticking bun is a must! My husband had a blueberry pancake with real blueberries in it and it was delicious. Best breakfast we had on the trip!

Genuine good quality food

By lancaster2017 |

Excellent quality food, freshly cooked by the Amish staff. Generous portions, tasty and good value. Best place in Reading Terminal market. We went back several times.

Great

By crazywannago |

We had blueberry pancakes that were just about perfect, big, hunks of blueberry, and the only sweetness came from the berries. Not overly sweetened, which I appreciated. We also had scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and scrapple. Everything was excellent. As my wife said, each bite was better than the last. Service was a little slow, but it was packed. We got the only seats left at the bar, so I don’t fault them for that.

Good food, nice people, fun place

By Todd |

This place is famous for a reason. The people are nice and welcoming. Food is delicious and generous portion. You can order take out, or they have a bar like area with a few rows of table with barstools that you van sit down and enjoy your meal. Ask for the all time favorites and you can’t go wrong.

Food That Is Worth the Wait!

By Jim K |

OK, if you go for breakfast you will probably have to wait in line. But, they are VERY efficient in getting people seated at their counters (No tables), so don't be put off about it because the food is worth it. Down home, fresh, plentiful, really tasty, and budget friendly. What more could you want?

Great Apple Dumplings

By TXDS Travel |

The apple dumplings were delicious: the apple was soft and sweet, the pastry dough was a perfect compliment to the filling, and the cinnamon-sugar seasoning heightened the treat. The only reason I did not give a 5 star review is because I tried to eat this whole dessert on my own, when the portion was huge, so I would definitely recommend eating this with at least one other person.

Visitor

By Greg T |

Oh my God absolutely unbelievable absolutely delicious they serve way too much food you better be hungry right down to the homemade jelly and so very reasonably priced

Ok this is amazing

By Melissa T |

My friend took me to Dutch eating place and I guess i was expecting something different, food that was more serious i guess but I was mind blown by how yummy it all was. Im dying to go back and take my boyfriend this time. The scrapple was the best.

Blueberry pancakes

By kerce75 |

My boyfriend and I both ordered 2 pancakes thinking they were going to be like the silver dollar sized ones. Well, no. They are plate sized and thick (but not dry). They were SO GOOD. They give you lots of butter, which I love. So good!

artificial, canned, and terrible

By Jae S |

The food here was a huge disappointment. I expected homestyle, from scratch, like momma used to make goodness. Instead it was instant everything. Fake maple syrup. the hot turkey sandwich was just hot lunchmeat slices between two slices of wonderbread, drowned in canned brown gravy. the mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. The BBQ sandwich was also on crappy bread and smothered in cheap BBQ sauce. the only thing good were the fresh cut fries.

Just okay

By tgreen1001 |

So many rave reviews, but my visit was ordinary. Eggs were not as ordered and they did not act like they should make them good. Bacon was way too salty. Service was attentive, but didn't care if you got what you ordered. Just pushing thru the people.

Very Ordinary Food Served in a Very Ordinary Way

By William S |

Dutch offers a range of diner-type foods - cheese burgers, Ruben sandwich, pork, mashed potatoes, roasted turkey, fries, etc. We tried the turkey sandwich with fries and the turkey pot pie. The turkey pot pie was heated in a microwave so the crust was soggy and there just wasn’t much within. I had a few bites of the potato and turkey, what there was of it, and it was very ordinary. The crust was not good at all. The turkey sandwich was covered in gravy, which we had asked to leave off, and the cranberry sauce was fresh out of a (n inexpensive) can. The cole slaw was not very flavorful, either. The fries were decent though a bit soggy. We would not return here. It is all heat-attack food.

Great breakfast

By Helen S |

Really great breakfast served fast at the counter. Amazing portions and really nice service. The apple dumpling is so good as well as the pancakes!

Massive delicious servings

By G8523SUpeterp |

Wanted to try the food. Could not finish it, so huge, but so delicious. I would visit regularly if I lived in proximity.

Great Reuben Sandwich and INcredible Namesake Apple Dumpling

By Toni T |

We spent 4 days at a conference and ate most meals and snacks at the Reading Terminal Market. Our meal at Dutch Eating Place was the highlight. We opted for the Lunch Favorites of Grilled Reuben, Super Turkey Melt, and Apple Dumpling. The Reuben sounded like the standard Reuben and it was delicious with high quality ingredients, like house made sauerkraut, corned beef with cheese on fresh rye. The bacon and the homemade bread put the Super in the Super Turkey Melt along with Russian dressing. We shared the apple dumpling, a cinnamon-doused apple wrapped up in pastry with a caramel glaze. Awesome. Standard lemonade is great and strawberry is a new twist on pink lemonade. Excellent service. Great high quality food. Free wifi Accessible entry at main entrances, some smaller entries require negotiating 6 steps. Accessible interior spaces. You stand in line around the food being served until you reach the counter, order, pay, and receive your food,. Small accessible eating area. Accessible restrooms in shared central area. Accessible van parking in paid lot.

Great food, great price

By Andy Y |

We came here for breakfast on our last day in Phili as part of a trip to Reading Terminal Market. Despite it being early morning, the market was busy and this was by far the busiest eatery in the market. We managed to get seated straight away but just as we did a queue started to form. The staff did their best to try and utilise the seating area to the fullest. The menu had plenty of choice and there were some specials on the board for the day too, I'm not sure if these change daily. I had a bacon and egg sandwich and my wife had the Apple Cinnamon french toast, both were very tasty and plentiful for a big breakfast. All of the other food that came out around us looked equally tasty, and the pancakes looked huge for anybody feeling hungry. The waitress was very friendly, took our drinks order immediately and brought us water while waiting too. I would definitely recommend visiting here if you're ever in the Market.

Reading Terminal Market Staple

By Dave |

I was in town for a conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center and had been eating my way through Reading Terminal Market during my stay. This restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday, so Tuesday morning was my last chance to try it. I had one pancake which was more than enough for a mid-morning breakfast. Food and service were both very good. WARNING - No free soda refills. It's not mentioned on their menu and the server doesn't tell you about it; until you get the bill.

Would eat every meal here if possible

By Maddy |

We only managed to eat dessert here on our trip to Philly as we planned to eat there on a Sunday and then remembered it was shut on Sundays. Not to worry though as we snuck in a apple dumpling for afternoon tea. It was delicious. The service was fantastic too. Would highly recommend this place!

Worth Finding

By MarineAir10 |

This place is located in the Reading Terminal and is worth finding. Real Amish food that is prepared with care. You certainly won’t leave hungry. Friendly staff. Prices are more than moderate.

Wonderful Amish Brunch

By Mary E |

We stopped in for lunch, and checked out the specials. (It’s good to have a sense of what you want to order while waiting for a seat at the counter.) I thought I was was set on the Reuben when I noticed they were still serving breakfast. We found seats near the kitchen and saw all the great breakfast foods rolling out. Even the oatmeal looked delicious. I ended up ordering pancakes even though I seldom eat pancakes, and they were wonderful. They were so big that there was no room on the plate for the bacon that came with the order. My daughter ordered the turkey plate, which was also fantastic. She had a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, too. Service was delightful, and the price was good. This is one of the many good food options at Reading Terminal Market.

Truly an experience

By Ashley F |

This little spot is tucked into the Reading Terminal Market. We went pretty early in the day hoping to beat some of the rush. We clearly did not go early enough. All of the seats were full and there was a long line of people waiting for their to go orders. We took it as a good omen and we weren’t disappointed. Well worth the wait. The food was good and more affordable than anywhere else we ate in the city. Highly recommend adding this to any list of places to try in the city.

Apple dumpling trial

By newplacesnewfriends |

We only tried the famous apple dumpling as they looked unique and there were big signs for it everywhere. I’ve never had anything like it before but it wasn’t to my taste. Two of us shared it, there was plenty to share. The crust seemed underdone and the apple really wasn’t soft enough to easily cut/access. It was good to try but I wouldn’t need to try it again.

No vegan options at all

By Hans T |

So when you are Dutch you just want to check out this place. Its very well placed in the heart of the Market. We sat on barstools in a cozy corner. However, we had to leave because my travel companion was vegan and there are no vegan options at all. The Amish girl who served us had never heard of ‘vegan’. Its all butter and cream and eggs. Too bad because the food looked promising.

Best Breakfast Ever!!

By JoesueFree |

My Uber driver said I couldn't visit Philly without having breakfast here. He was right! Prices were great, services was fantastic, and the food was amazing. I actually went twice during my 4 day visit. I got blueberry pancakes both times because they were that good. The turkey bacon was fine but the sausage was much better!

Mammoth breakfast!

By postalguy12977 |

Be prepared to eat. Huge portions at small prices. Stopped there for breakfast and was not disappointed. Very good food and fast service.

Great Breakfast!

By RestonVoyager |

Some friends and I recently visited the Reading Terminal Market. Two of us had breakfast at Dutch Eating Place. I had a short stack of pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy and had a large dollop of butter on top. The bacon was quite tasty. My friend had the blueberry pancake special. She said her pancakes were fabulous. The two things I didn’t care for were the syrup and the lemonade. The syrup didn’t taste very good. The lemonade was just okay. I would definitely consider eating at DEP again.

Great food , known for pancakes but their Omelets are great

By Chuck M |

Saw that their Western Omelet oddly win awards so we had to try it.. we both loved ours. The key in this bz market is to order to go and find a place to sit not in the restaurant as we were there on a busy weekend day..

Hot Apple Dumpling is the specialty here

By Tofurry |

This stall was busy when we arrived at lunch time. We ordered their hot apple dumpling and real mashed potatoes take-out so we could eat at the table we managed to get. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The hot apple dumpling was also good but I wish the crust was more flaky rather than soft. If we ever came back, I'd want to try their breakfast choices which are supposed to be really great.

So W

By Betty R |

We wanted to sample a cheesesteak sandwich and stumbled into the Dutch Eating Place. The food was great and the service friendly and prompt.

quantity over quality

By 2020worldtraveler2020 |

Look everyone comes here, so we did too (in our second visit to Reading Terminal), but I thought it was only okay. Servings are huge. Misspellings on the menu are rampant. Fun to be at a Dutch-style diner, but I don't need to eat here again.

Apple Cinnamon French Toast for EVERY Meal

By Largenoggin69 |

The Apple Cinnamon French Toast with Turkey Bacon Special was SO GOOD, I had it 2 days in a row for breakfast. So yummy!!

Divinely Dutch

By Lee |

Excellent Breakfast! Service was amazingly fast and courteous. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelette and it was perfectly prepared. Overall, great location for a hearty meal and great service.

YUM!

By TravelBoomerang |

Philadelphia comfort food at it's best! Located in the Reading Terminal Market, DEP offers easy and casual comfort food served by the Amish. Enjoy deli and breakfast favorites while sitting at the counter and watching the world go by.

Great food and great prices.

By Keith F |

We ate here a couple of times while visiting Philly and staying at a hotel around the corner. It’s very busy but worth the wait. The portions are huge and the food is very flavorful and seasoned perfectly. They are not open on Sunday or Monday. The blueberry pancakes were so amazing and they are huge. Make sure you ask for pork bacon crispy or you may get turkey bacon flimsy. The apple dumplings were amazing too. I highly recommend this place and will be back next time we visit Philly.

Great place for breakfast

By Vitaly S |

That is great place for breakfast with supersized portions and great food. Very quick service and stuff is very friendly.

Disappointing

By SeanWade |

Overall, I have always enjoyed eating at the Dutch Eating Place; however, during a recent visit, the turkey platter was really disappointing. In other words, the turkey was overcooked/dry and not tender and definitely not pleasing to the palate. In other words, the turkey was definitely bland and not seasoned. Also it is discouraging when the waitress brings you a side item, i.e. side of gravy, and the gravy is dripping down the side of the serving cup or bowl. In closing, I am genuinely hoping this visit was an aberration because overall it is a good eatery.

Dutch Eating Place

By GoVols79 |

We were looking for a unique dining experience in Philadelphia and Dutch Eating Place in Reading Terminal Market was just that. We had outstanding service, good food and at a great price. It was also very efficient as we were in and out in less than 30 minutes. We were very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.

Great value breakfast

By Amanda V |

Had the peach French toast (special) and partner had the eggs and toast, was a yummy start to the day. Place is busy but you can grab a seat and eat at the bar. Saw someone order the pancakes may have to go back to try those....

Best breakfast!

By Happygoluckyang |

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! We went Saturday morning around 9am prime breakfast time. The line was long, but it was amazing how fast they moved people in and out. I had the apple French toast with turkey bacon. And my hubby got blueberry pancakes with sausage. Both came with fresh squeezed orange juice. It was AMAZING! So fresh and delicious and home made. Service was quick and friendly. MUST try!

Great breakfast reasonable price

By Bfrank1977 |

A great place for breakfast. Large portions and a reasonable price. The chipped beef was amazing. Very courteous and friendly service.

Scrapple!!

By Import R |

Being from FL, we just don’t have decent scrapple down here available at the store. You also aren’t going to find a cafe or diner with it on their menu. So having the opportunity to get scrapple from the original region, we couldn’t pass it up. 1 word: Delicious. Nice and crusty, warm inside. So good, we made a 2nd order!

Amazing counter breakfast spot in Reading Terminal

By Kevin B |

The loaded home fries are next level. Scallop potatoes with cheese and bacon. I ordered two sunny side up eggs that I threw on top. Absolutely delicious. Also comes with toast. The homemade strawberry jam on the tab is the best jam I have had. A little thinner which makes it super easy to spread all over the toast. Friendly service and good prices.

Excellent lunch! And the apple dumplings...

By Robyn K |

This was our first experience at the Reading Terminal Market, so we decided to try the highly rate Dutch Eating Place. I am from Maryland and spent a lot of my youth in PA Dutch country, and this restaurant certainly didn’t disappoint. We got the grilled turkey melt sandwich, which came with their tasty fries and homemade lemonade. The turkey was sliced right off the bird...so homey and delicious. Then for dessert, we got the apple dumpling...reminded me of my mom’s, which I haven’t had in years. Doughy and fresh, served with a side of heavy cream...love. Highly recommend this restaurant! Oh, and the server was super sweet. 😁

So good

By Nikos T |

Words can't even describe how good this place is. But since I need to get to 100 characters, I'll say run don't walk to this place. Order the breakfast with the pancakes and you'll be happy.

It's the REAL DEAL!

By NanaJ12 |

This is a great Pennsylvania Dutch eating place in the Reading Terminal Market. So many places to choose from here but this one is fresh, hand made goods! I thoroughly enjoyed the hot turkey platter with REAL mashed potatoes and gravy. The turkey was fresh roasted and you get a choice of sides. Delicious and nice.

Lunch at Reading Market

By ButimeTraveler |

We noted people ordering just orange juice so tried it and it is great. I also had really generous and moist veggie omelet that was good. I recommend this place. Heaven knows there are lots of choices there at the market.

Best breakfast sandwich

By Maggie B |

My friends and I were here visiting and saw that this place had a great review. It did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and delicious! Would definitely return! I had an egg, Swiss, and turkey sausage on a bagel. My friend had the blueberry pancakes. Very good!

I love the breakfasts and lunches here!

By Justin W |

I love coming to the Dutch Eating Place for both breakfast and lunch when I am in Philadelphia and I highly recommend it for its service and its reasonable prices. I had breakfast here both mornings when I was visiting. I had the Blueberry Pancake special with Turkey bacon and a side of eggs. The fresh blueberries with the home churned butter were just out of this world and the pancakes were large and fluffy. Each bite was a delight. The second morning I had the Apple French Toast with a side of Turkey Bacon again and these were just as delicious. The serving size was so generous and they tasted so rich and so buttery. It was the best breakfast! The service is so nice and the people who work here are the same people that waited on me two years ago on my last visit. The prices are very fair and the portion sizes are really large. Don't miss coming here for breakfast or lunch.

Good breakfast and great service

By phvi2617 |

I came here to try out scrapple. While it wasn't quite for me, the rest of the breakfast was really good. The portions were generous, and service was excellent. Prices were very reasonable.

There's no place better for a "home cooked" meal and smiles.

By Patrick R |

Amazing food and unbeatable service. The portions were huge, the folks working there were so friendly, the portions were huge, and the prices were unbelievably reasonable. Not only did we walk away completely satisfied with a great meal, but we also left with a smile on our faces put there by the employees and the wonderful experience of being there.

Hearty Breakfast

By architect |

Expect to wait on line even before it opens. The egg dishes, the huge blueberry pancakes , the meats are all outstanding. Service was excellent and prices reasonable. Worth the experience.

Terrible food, great service.

By momally2three |

The service was great, very friendly and quick but the food was tasteless. Veggie omelettes had no flavor, soggy English muffin was inedible, home fries were also terrible, prepared like scalloped potatoes but no flavor. Coffee was mediocre.

Great comfort food at a great price

By Joseph A |

No room at the counter so we got take out. I had the turkey sandwich platter. YUM! White bread, tons of white meat turkey, huge serving of real mashed potatoes, and more gravy than I could use. All for less than $8. My wife had one of their famous apple dumplings - delicious as expected.

Great Breakfast

By Jennifer J |

You can try to sit at the counter but it is busy. You can take it to go. The breakfast is great. A must eat there. I had the Apple Cinnamon French Toast. It was great. They have meal deals too.

Dutch Eating Place… is a good eating place!

By bobroman |

Stopped in during the Flower Show…it was our first visit. It is the Reading Terminal Market. This place is a flashback to the old diner atmosphere… round top stools, diner type counter and waitresses rushing in all directions. The food was diner as well… hot roast beef or turkey smothered with gravy for example. I had the small sloppy joe (something i hadn’t seen on menu in years) which was more than amble in size with fresh cut fries. It was great. My partner had a burger which again was large with all the usual fixings about 4 inches high. Great burger with great presentation. Our waitress had smiles for all her customers and the manager made rounds asking if everything was OK. Nice touch… great customer support. Highly recommend.

Great value paired with friendly service

By FNB_Birdie |

Had the opportunity to pick this spot for breakfast! What a great choice. Fun to sit at the bar seating and have breakfast with all our new friends. The hospitality was great and service was fantastic too. The two other things that were great about this spot was the quantity and quality. Sometimes you have to sacrifice one for the other, but not here. I had the bacon jam breakfast sandwich on rye with home fries with onions and peppers. My wife had the breakfast haystack special. Everything was great. Will have to go back to try some of their lunch items. This is a great place to try if you are near the terminal market!

Delicious Breakfast

By Travel_lovin_momma |

Stopped in for a quick breakfast and it was delicious! We both ordered the two egg breakfast not realizing that it was a ton of food. The potatoes were the best breakfast potatoes I’ve ever had. The blueberry pancake was so good! I didn’t care for the scrapple but my husband loved it. Great experience!!

You may have to wait.

By Rick P |

What a great place in a fantastic location. When in Philadelphia, go to the Market Reading Station and be sure to eat at least once here. Or in my case three times in three days. Service and food is spectacular and the atmosphere very unique.

Excellent food

By james c |

This was a highlight of our trip to Philly. The service was great and the blueberry pancakes were fantastic. I had the French toast and it was divine. Very reasonable prices too. Well worth a visit but arrive early, long queues had formed by the time we left.

Make sure you are hungry!

By JG717 |

Stopped in for breakfast on a Friday morning. Got the last 2 seats at the counter. I ordered oatmeal and toast. That choice, could have fed 2-3 people. Portions were plentiful. Wait staff was friendly and service was fast. Loved the option of being served your coffee in a to go cup - I definitely took some to go!

Reuben and Fries

By Dave_in_DFW |

I'd like to give it 4.5 stars. My wife and I both thought the reuben was great. She didn't like the fries much however. They were hot but kind of limp...but had crunchy bits mixed in that were great. Friendly service, fresh food, and a great value.

Great food

By Mike S |

What a hidden gem for inexpensive food. Located in Reading Terminal Market ave 11. Food was very good ( I had a great Rueben sandwich ). Waitress was very attentive and pleasant

Dutch breakfast spot in reading terminal

By Debra R |

I went with a friend of mine for breakfast/lunch and this was actually my second time in a week. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. You have so many choices. The owners are from the Amish community in Lancaster and every thing is so fresh. They put their heart into the making of every dish and products from their farms. The other time I went with my husband who is not a fan of eating out (unlike me) all the time. He was satisfied with his breakfast .

Always great!

By Rena A |

Delicious breakfast, simple and filling, great way to start the day! Mary Ellen was very friendly and attentive!

Breakfast or lunch?

By kit0214 |

Open Turkey Sandwich- husband enjoyed . Pancakes enjoyed by son. I loved my Veggie Omelette and toast. Everything tasted fresh!

Best breakfast

By FlyLaF |

We enjoyed the fluffy pancakes and cinnamon apple French toast. The bacon was saltier than what I’m used to. The fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious.

Lunch

By John B |

The Dutch Eating Place is in the Reading Terminal Market . It is a casual double horseshoe counter where the Amish cook up some of the best breakfasts and lunches in town . Fresh and filling , the gentle servers take your order and get you the best food. I always enjoy a scrapple , eggs and cheese on a Kaiser roll . Delicious and fresh . The pancakes hang over the edge of the plate and are very tasty . Busy at times but worth the wait . Its fun to explore the rest of the market too . Unfortunately they are only open Wednesday to Saturday .

Amazing Breakfast

By Bytor56 |

Friends suggested we go to the Reading Terminal Market and try the Dutch Eating Place for breakfast during a visit to Philadelphia. What a great suggestion, we had to take a few minutes walking around the Reading Terminal Market to find the counter and that is what it is, a series of counters, diner style in the corner of the market. We had to wait for a few seconds but we were quickly seated at the counter, which was crowded but that made the experience even better, everyone was friendly as they enjoyed their breakfast. The menu has a great selection of items, almost anything you can think of they have it. We had the pancakes (which were huge), sausage, a meat lovers omelet and a side of scrapple. We left very satisfied and will return if we come back to Philadelphia.

Another excellent breakfast

By Justin W |

I came down to Philly for the Cornell Penn game and had to start my day at the Dutch Eating Place. I love coming here for meals when I am in Philly. Their food is the best. I keep it light this time having a Bacon, Egg and Cheese on Rye Bread with a Grilled Raison Sticky bun. Everything was delicious and so well prepared. The sandwich was just enough for breakfast where I might go back for lunch. The Grilled Raison Sticky bun was cut in half and layered with fresh butter. God it was such a treat. The food and service here are excellent.

Best Place for Breakfast Near Convention Center

By WellTraveled3 |

This became a go-to place for breakfast, with great pancakes of all kinds, cinnamon French toast and all kinds of Pennsylvanian Dutch breakfast foods--eggs, sausages, local bacon and tasty baked goods. Also Shoo-Fly Pie!

Best Ice Cream!

By chk2002 |

This was the best ice cream I've had in a long time in the U.S. Rich and creamy. The service was very fast. Manager Brad was super nice.

Can't Miss This Place

By Betty M |

Every time I come to Philly I have to have breakfast here. It is convenient as it is in the Reading Terminal Market and food is plentiful, fast and cheap! Don't miss the scrapple, porky and delicious. They make your eggs exactly the way you want them and the prices are reasonable. This is a real Dutch Treat!!

Breakfast Must

By rogersober |

We got free breakfast at the hotel across the street but refused to stand inline for ten minutes to be served at the counter. The line moved fast and the order came fast. The coffee was so so and the sausage a tad dry. The soft eggs great and SOS super. The fresh cut French fries a must.

Classic Philly

By Kim H |

Whenever entertaining guests, I bring them to Reading Terminal Market and we usually eat here. It’s always delicious, fast and friendly. Seating is limited so expect to wait especially during prime times. And larger groups....forget it, plan to split up. This is counter service only or takeout. We lucked out at 11:15am and after a short wait got 4 stools together. Two had breakfast, two lunch. I always get soup. All are amazing. When in Philly, stop by!

Hum

By Jarlath D |

Not quite my cup of tea. Wouldn't go back, and the colleague I was having luncch with wouldn't either. Juts an unfortunate choice as the fare juts isn't waht I like, but I am sure some people enjoy it...

Great for takeout

By ladybug314 |

Breakfast was really good. I had the pancakes and eggs and really enjoyed it. Ordered as takeout and then sat at the tables towards the back of the Market as they didn't have any open bar stools for all of us to sit together. Didn't mind the inconvenience as the food was worth it.

Taste sensation

By Christopher H |

Tried this place and oh my what a great sandwich I had, the Bacon, Cheese, Egg with Chill Jam. It was delicious, And the Apple Dumpling was amazing. Wasn't keen on the Scrapple, but I like to try anything once Service was brilliant and lovely. Bit of a confusion at one point, but this was rectified and couldn't asked for more Would recommend anyone going to Philadelphia to check this place out, especially if you like pancakes. If I went again I would have tried pancakes, they were massive!

Go Big or Go Home!

By HelenAKord |

Go big or go home must be their motto. The size of the pancakes were tremendous, but they don't even compare to the mound of butter that is plopped on top of the food. I've never seen anything like it. Almost like a half a stick is shlopped onto the food. It was very unappetizing and the kids were freaking out at the sight of it when they opened their containers. We simply scooped it off, but if I knew I would have asked they not add it. You should heed my advise and skip the butter. That aside, the food was good and reasonably priced. Check it out.

Go hungry, or don't go!

By lirioblanco |

As a tourist, this is just the sort of place you want to go for breakfast, Busy, noisy, lots of good food being served. Beware when ordering pancakes, they are huge. We both ordered a twinstack and couldn't finish them. Scrapple, a local delicacy which I tried was OK but maybe more of an acquired taste. Coffee and orange juice both good. Nice staff.

Get the apple dessert!

Reading Terminal Market is a treat and this Amish restaurant has a delicious dessert to offer!! The warm apple dumpling was large enough to share if you really want to!

Made me wish I stayed in Philly for longer.

By Mister L |

For my first time on my first breakfast in Philadelphia, I was spoiled for choice at the Dutch eating place and at Terminal Market. As a foodie, I am often tortured by the amount of choices I have to eat in such a wide environment. My choice paid off with breakfast of delicious apple cinnamon French toast. The lovely waitress whose name I cannot remember gave me a brilliant introduction to Amish food and all the parts of the menu that were popular among public for good reasons. If only I stayed in Philadelphia for longer, I would’ve returned and tried every special and every breakfast I could in this unique Amish eatery.
