Fantastic food and service

By Guneet Singh |

I hosted a business dinner for 20 folks-everything from location, ambiance, food, and service was superb. We had the mezzanine floor, shared . with another small group. The waiters and food taste were excellent. The appetizers were a hit among guests, especially fritters. Especially the Crispy lemongrass ginger rice cakes

Delicious lunch

By Lundill |

We stumbled into E&O on our first day in San Francisco, when I had been craving dumplings. The lunch menu offered pumpkin-filled dim sum, so in we went! Aside from à la carte options, they offer a democratically priced lunch menu, which I went for. The aforementioned dumplings were scrumptious, as were the ribs. My table mate’s papaya salad was yummy - tangy and spicy - and the satays were also very nice. We took the warm ginger cookies to go, and enjoyed them during our afternoon - which was off to an excellent start after this lunch!

Awesome happy hour food and drinks

By Monica S |

Wish this place was in my hometown. Went there for happy hour. Everything we ordered off the HH menu was delicious. Would definitely visit this place again if I’m ever back in San Fran.

Wow!

By BuyBuys |

This was our first stop after checking in to the fabulous JW Marriott. We came here specifically for the happy hour and their amazing specials. Our good friends are big fans of this place, specifically for the oysters. My. husband and I truly enjoyed the corn fritter, naan bread with amazing dip and much more. Ambience is elegant and quiet, just how I like it. Do not hesitate to come by here for happy hour!

Stop in for dinner or sit at the bar

By MariaVancouverBC |

I was looking for a light dinner by myself and the doorman at the hotel suggested E&O. I arrived on a Friday night at 7pm and they were able to seat me at the bar. The squash dumplings in red thai curry were delectable. I could have licked the bowl they were served in. Luckily, I ordered the panir naan bread. The bread itself wasn't traditional and a but thick and not as chewy as I would have liked, but with the thai curry sauce it worked. Bowl clean. I would recommend reservations as they were quite busy early in the evening. Would return for a full trip around the Silk Road.

Great Ambiance and Service

By Tatiana C |

I've been to E&O twice and the experience was great. Not only food is creative and well served, but the service is also outstanding. There are not too many choices, but the sample of oriental/ thai food is quite good.

Good Asian fusion

By IzzyEdmonton |

Had dinner here last night with a large group, in a private room. We were far away from the rest of the restaurant so that we could carry on conversations but close enough to still feel the hustle and bustle of the place. It was a Saturday night and it was packed. We had a preset menu, so I did not get to see the extent of the full menu, but what we had on the preset menu was very good. We had a sample of appetizers - naan, calamari, duck bun and chicken satay. All were quite good. I had the black cod as a main. The fish was very fresh and literally melted in my mouth. Seasoning was also on point. My only complaint is that my dish was lukewarm by the time it reached me. Our meal was accompanied by steamed rice and deep fried beans. They brought both of these items late - we were all half way done our entrees by the time these sides appeared. The deep fried beans were my favourites of the night. We all shared the mud pie for dessert and enjoyed it. All in all, I would say that the food was pretty good and the ingredients were fresh. Seasoning was on point. Service was a bit lacking but maybe because we were a large group. I don't like it when my entree arrives lukewarm. However, having said that, I would likely return in the future to try other items on the menu, with a smaller group.

Happy Hour Oysters

By Derrick U |

Went for their $1 happy hour oysters. A good value for fresh oysters. They also have $1 dumplings, we ordered this and it was ok, but for a $1 it was a great value. The bar was full but there were table seating available.

Great Meal!

By Deborah G |

What a surprise. Looking for lunch and this was handy. The Prosperity Salad was amazing. Loved everything we had. Nice atmosphere and good service.

Happy hour bliss

By Laurie M |

We lucked on this place looking for an early dinner. The happy hour offerings were terrific. Cheaper beers and wine plus great oysters for a buck and pumpkin dumplings for the same. The platter was great value with two each of corn fritters, duck buns, sweet potato crisps, chicken skewers and spare ribs and some root vegetables. Classy setting and friendly service. Great fun watching the locals come in after work and meet up at the bar for cocktails. Bartender is worth watching also.

Great dinner

By Tim F |

We stumbled upon this place when exploring around our hotel. The decor is great and has a very trendy/upscale vibe. It was really busy when we visited, so it must be popular, another good sign! We were able to be seated without a reservation. The menu is eclectic but bear in mind they do have their own 'spin' on certain dishes. It isn't a traditional Chinese restaurant for instance, but I don't think that's a bad thing. There was a bit of confusion over making a substitution on one of our dishes. The first person told us they could not even simply remove an ingredient from a dish (slightly concerning as I would hope that it is fresh and not pre-packaged!), and then the 2nd person told us they could do it, but they'd have to charge us. Now, this isn't a cheap restaurant by any means. So this experience felt a little out-of-place. I get that different ingredients cost different amounts, but they were perfectly happy to take something out of the dish but charge us full-price. Kinda stings... Anyway - the food was awesome. Tasty, and well-presented. Aside from the experience above, the service was also excellent and they kept our wine glasses full and cleared used dishes. Overall, we had a good experience.

Great Thai Foods

By Gary P |

We tried a little sampling of food Squash salad, Shasha dumplings, steak satay and chicken lettuce cups everything was very flavorful and good portions The squash dumplings were the best. Service was very friendly and prompt

Tasty Asian and Asian-inspired dishes

By SeeTheW0rld62 |

This was my first visit to E&O Kitchen and I really enjoyed it. The decor is modern and interesting. I was there with a large group of people that my husband works with. The appetizers were tasty. We there were beef skewers which I don't eat but also portebello mushroom skewers that I liked. The crab bites were very good. We then had green papaya and cucumber salad with naan and raita. The naan wasn't as good as at many Indian restaurants I've been too, but not bad. The salad was fresh and crisp and the raita was very flavorful. The main course was a Mongolian chicken stir fry that I enjoyed and grilled salmon with a green curry sauce that I didn't try because I'm not a fan of salmon. However everyone else appeared to like it so I think it was good. Dessert was a brown butter miso mochi cake with toasted coconut, roasted pineapple and passionfruit creme. I liked the coconut, pineapple and creme but not the cake itself. There was nothing wrong with it but it was somewhat rubbery. It was gluten free and I expect it was made with rice which can get starchy. Service was great, they did a nice job with serving the food while hot to a group of 30+ people.

Excellent Produce Transformed into Beautiful Food

By Howmanywhinges |

A large loud bar-restaurant which serves a number of south East Asian dishes. The char siu black cod served on a bed of Yu Choy was amazing; tender, juicy and very tasty. The satay stick combination ( 2 beef, chicken, seafood) was also excellent. Not a large menu, but what is on offer appears seasonal and tasted great

Last night in SAn Fran

By PJM_UK68 |

Delicious food, with interesting flavours. Booked after reviewing TA reviews. We had a mix of satay, noodles, rice and salad. All were excellent, with the highlight being the prawn citrus salad. Would highly recommend, though probably worth booking as we went on a Wednesday and it was busy. The only negatives were slightly inattentive service and it was a bit noisy.

Visiting from Boston

By Jody D |

The Prawn salad is a 100%. So fresh with excellent contrast of herbs and fruit. Simply outstanding!!

Yum, yum, yum.

By CDAussie |

Asian fusion restaurant with an excellent and varied menu, tasty food and very good service. Has a range of great small bites which we shared along with a few entrees. Nothing to fault, not a big range of beers but here the focus is food and we loved everything we ordered.

Insider Place for Happy Hour

By Paula R |

The bartenders are both friendly and professional and cocktails are great. The food is delicious, fresh and flavorful. The happy hour is a bargain and there are lots of discounted choices. We had cocktails and light bites for two and the bill came to less than $50. The interior design is exquisite, with every detail thoughtful and sophisticated. It's such a pleasant place to spend time that we returned the next day for lunch. It will be a must-go restaurant for every visit we make to San Francisco.

Happy hour let's you sample

By mthurlow |

Wow it was good. Food was spot on delicious, cocktails were unique and yummy and the service was great. The happy hour specials run till 6 so you can build a dinner of lots of "bites." The duck bun was amazing, the beef satay also great, I'll definitely go back.!

A solid option

By ezfish |

I don't know. Perhaps I ordered wrong. My buddy ordered some of his favorites off the menu and they were fried. Granted, I don't do a lot of fried food. So, there were repercussions. I was drinking Fernette throughout the evening after that. However, they had a diverse menu, a great bar and restaurant, and kind staff. Walking distance from union square. I would try it again. Plus, if you like couches, they have two.

Delicious mains; skip the desserts

By matkat7 |

The small plate mains were tasty and reasonably priced. Mixed drinks were somewhat expensive. The desserts were very expensive for what you got and not particularly tasty. There were 4 of us, 4 mains and 2 desserts including very over priced bland cookies.

Vegetarian pad thai contained chicken

By qpofg |

Was an excellent meal until we received our vegetarian pad thai which contained chicken. My wife ate some but couldn't continue with her meal even when a replacement dish arrived. No reflection for the error on the bill, soured what was otherwise a very good meal.

Didn't live up to expectations

By Moleseyboy |

I tried E & O based on the glowing reviews I'd read. In the event, I wish I'd walked a bit further and tried another place. The Pad Thai was overly salty, almost to the point where I considered sending it back it was so unpalatable. The ingredients were fine, but it was difficult to taste any nuance, due to the overbearing saltiness. I was happy to see that they had Kirin on draft, but it didn't restore the experience to give this place a more positive review.

Work grouo

By DeeNIndiana |

There were 15 of us and although we couldn't sit together, it worked out. The food was delicious....actually we had so many appetizers I only ordered another appetizer rather than a meal. They messed up my dinner (appetizer) but was apologetic and even gave me a great dessert for my troubles. I would definitely go back. The corn fritters, lettuce wraps, salads and satays were yum. I can't even remember what else we had but it was all good!

Excellent food with friendly service

By Denise D |

We didn’t have a reservation and it was extremely busy being the Saturday before Christmas but we were offered seating on two stools literally in the kitchen. It turned out to be the best seating in the house. We ordered marinated tuna and the satay platter which were all delicious. Would definitely return. Thanks

Amazing Asian fusion

By aussierater2 |

Great Asian fusion restaurant. We ordered a heap of small dishes to share all of which were excellent. We walked in off street without reservation and no problem. Great ambience and really comfortable.

Very good food

By mbzb2016 |

The food and the service were both very good. The meal was pricey. The atmosphere was good. The small plates made it easy to share some of the food.

Not worth the visit!

By Tripadvisbear 🧸🎒 |

Visiting San Fran for the AUA 2018 We were craving some Chinese food and visited this restaurant. The Ambiance and the service is great however the good ends there!!! As soon as we arrive we are told “We don’t serve alcohol past 10 pm” ... even tho the last call in San Fran is 1:45 am... Everything about the menu was boring! We ordered around 8 dishes of which 1 didn’t show up and they forgot about the other and by the time they realized we were almost done our meal but they served it anyways ... We ordered the Pad Thai: very dry and tasteless Thai Fried Rice: the rice was tasty but the meat was chewy and over cooked Chicken lettuce cups: it was okay Calamari: oil dump! super small pieces of calamari deef fried to a size of a raisin it was just awful Deep fried corn: it was tasteless deep fried corn ... Boiled Prawn salad: only dish we recommend Chicken satay : arrived 35 minutes late , 3 pieces of chicken We never got our TUFU dumplings ... Over all a major fail!

Still great Asian fusion restaurant

By Calif-Family4 |

Great place for sharing small and large plates. Make sure to try the corn fritters and shaking beef. Other dishes are excellent also, including the fried rice, satays, lettuce cups, etc. The back area near the kitchen is extremely loud with all the tables and overly loud music. Ask for a table on the sides or upstairs if you want to be able to hear your dinner companions without yelling.

Fresh and Refreshing

By Marla B |

Had not been here in well over 7 years and ended up going 2x in 2 weeks, it was SO GOOD !!! Both times I took out of town guests and they too loved it. First visit, our server was Liza and she was lovely and a lot of fun. She was also very familiar with the entries and guided our decisions nicely. Also the pace of the dishes was perfect. Food choices were: Wood Roasted Edamame Beans ($7.00), The Best Edamame Beans I have ever had and perfectly salted and enough beans for 3 or 4 people. Tamarind and Hoison Spare Ribs ($16.00) 4 meaty, juicy, melt in your mouth, finger licking good ribs. They were so tender you could even eat the bone. Honestly, I could have just had this and been very happy. Citrus Avocado Salad ($13.00) dressed perfectly with an abundance of citrus, avocado and other ingredients. Think it was a special of the night. So fresh and pallet cleansing without being too acidic. Last was the Char Siu Black Cod ($27.00) which melted in your mouth, it was like Butter. Nice generous piece of fish, worthy of sharing. Perfectly marinated and cooked to perfection. All the servers were fantastic, on point but not intrusive. I have to go back as soon as I can. In the interim, I will go for the Happy Hour, which looks fantastic ! Great job all the way around and nice improvement from the last time I went, well over 7 years ago. They have certainly stepped up their game in freshness, quality, creative dishes with interesting choices.

Nice Asian cuisine

By Mariana |

We had a good dinner at E&O. Good size dishes and really tasty. We loved the papaya salad, it was yummy. Prices were pretty okay.

Good for a family style meal

By Doreen A |

A group of 10 of us dined here and ordered a bunch of small plates and noodle and rice dishes for sharing. All of the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the chick pea fries and the “famous” Indonesian corn cakes. I also had a mahalo mule which was outstanding. The only issue we had was at the end of the meal they told us that they would only accept 4 credit cards rather than split the bill 10 ways. In a city hosting a huge conference this seemed a bit odd. We were asking for a simple split and I have not had this problem before. In the end the manager approved it so we were able to pay without incident, but since none of us had cash I. Hand it was a bit of an issue.

Very delicious! What a pleasant surprise!

By margt142 |

We ordered spring rolls, chow mein, chicken satay and Korean style pork chops. All were very flavourful! This is Asian fusion done right!

Don't bother - nothing fantastic

By Kiersten G |

I read the incredible reviews of this place and with that and the top rating for Asian in SF, I was anxious to try this. It was just "ok" The menu is very different then what you see on here - they have revised it quite a bit and a few of the things people raved about are no longer on the menu. We started with the corn fritters - these were the highlight. Very unusual and good - just a little greasy though. My dinner partner had the pad thai for dinner - and it wan't exciting, only average. I had the Broccolini and Shaking Beef. Broccolini was very good and unique, good Indian flavor. Shaking Beef was just ok - good flavor but I had one bite that was so incredibly spicy, it ruined the entire dish - every other bite was a very goos spice level, so I feel something must have been messed up. The flavor of the sauce was good the first few bites, but I honestly got tired of it very quickly.

Great location and very good food for a midweek lunch

By David H |

Went to lunch with family during a day of window shopping and site seeing in Union Square area. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were impressed. The service, the food and the overall experience was top notch. Tasty flavors for appetizers and main courses. Top was the corn fritters: out of this world!

Happy Hour Dinner

By Angel_Travel_Bug |

The happy hour was filling and delicious! We tried quite a bit of the various menu and loved every dish. The dumplings were steamed to perfection and dumplings were delectable. The price didn’t hit the pocket hard and the drinks were made well for happy hour. Even though the bar was completely full the bartender was attentive and very nice. He took good care of us. We will definitely return while we finish our business trip. A must try if you are in the area!

UNION SQUARE HIP HAPPINESS

By 111familyman111 |

Place has a HIP Eclectic Vibe setting. Sat at bar listing to two barkeeps (black man and white lady) talk and running through the restaurant trying to get other employees sampling a new drink concoction that one of them created. Apparently, owner lets bartenders do this to put on the restaurant menu... What the owner does not know is how much time bartenders and employees are are ignoring the customers food and drink orders orders while employees are playing and drinking amongst themselves. We ordered some sort of Fritter and Tuna Tar Tar appetizers as well as mixed drinks. Tuna was presented in 2 tiny pastry shells tasted ok but was less than sample size and a waste of monies. Fritter was unique(vibe this place is going for) was good came with dipping sauce also good and different, but would not get either again. Mixed drinks we had were enjoyable would have liked another round but, bartenders had better things to do. NET: If you like Unique Happening Vibe and Being Ignored at Bar this place is for you!

Nothing Special

By o2mpx |

Had dinner for a party of 3 with all small plates. Good selection with combination of popular dishes from several cuisines. Food was ok but restaurant was very loud, but all customers were stuffed into the back area while the front section was empty but airier and more open; might have been quieter. Service was not attentive. After getting our drinks, server didn't check back to get order and we had to ask another server to get our server back; even that took several minutes. Restaurant was conveniently located near several hotel chain properties.

Great happy hour and food

By Kathlovsfood |

Stopped here twice while in town for work. Food and service excellent. Sat at the bar. Had the raw tuna one night and the prong salad the other night. Both were excellent! Excellent wine.

Good food, busy atmosphere in great location

By Melbscoop |

Was recommended by a friend, found E&O to be precisely as described. The menu is a bit confusing though... nice Asian, but then there is Burgers.. stick with the Asian please as the food was great...be aware though, they serve you quick as a flash, and start cleaning, yes cleaning the table before the last plates are cleared. Whilst quick, it didn’t feel rushed.

Try the Corn Fritters!

By Chris M |

Good for Asian and non Asian food. Good for vegetarian, they will do most noodle dishes with tofu or veggies.

Ban mi great, pad thai not

By Go813471 |

Everything was fantastic except the main course. Don’t get the pad thai. Unfortunately the waiter recommended it so we both got it.

Unique Menu

By markitiki |

Atmosphere is great, especially for conversation! The service was attentive, friendly, and helpful. The menu offered a wide variety, but limited options per cuisine. Each dish we ordered was delicious! Drink menu is also extensive.

Solid Food; Needs Management

By SKG109 |

I had been looking forward to dining there for some time, so drove from East Bay for dinner. Six of us dined there. During the 2+ hours that we were there, didn’t see any “management” person who cared about how our food or service was. Maybe they were too busy watching the Warriors game at the bar? Both the drinks menu were sticky and we had to ask them to be replaced. We ordered lots and lots of food, and each dish was good but there seemed to be no effort to “plate” the food. Even my neighborhood Chinese restaurant tries to do a better presentation. Lots of beer choices and the cocktails were good. Service was spotty. Sometimes attentive but mostly very casual. Recommendation: good food but the restaurant can do better.

Great food, cocktails and service

By Hillary |

Excellent dining experience. We had a late lunch here. I had the dan dan noodles and my husband had the Indonesian fried rice. Both were fantastic. The portions were so huge we didn't think we'd finish them, but the food was so good we ate every bit. He had a house non-alcoholic specialty, a Thai iced tea with a shot of espresso which was really tasty and just the energy boost he needed that afternoon. I had a Jade Buddha cocktail with basil included in 3 different ways that was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Staff was prompt and friendly, prices were reasonable considering the location and portion sizes. Highly recommend!

Interesting Asian - American Fusion

By fitzfam51 |

Came here upon the advice of our hotel concierge. Found the menu was very eclectic, with Thai and Japanese offerings along with hamburgers and fries. My wife raved about the mushroom dumplings, as I did about the corn fritters. They are true fritters, with large batches of corn held together with breading and fast fried. We shared the roasted edamame, which were uniquely flavored with Japanese seasoning. My pad thai was good as well, but rather traditionally prepared. Be prepared to be served very quickly - all of our dishes were on the table within 20 minutes! It also got very busy soon after our arrival at 6:30 - recommend recommendations.

Very delicious lunch!

By Anders_Houmoller |

We had lunch 1 May and enjoyed the restaurant's delicious oysters and the excellent Pu Pu Platter. We were served by very nice and friendly staff. We give the restaurant our best recommendations 👌😊

Not a relaxing dinner, try elsewhere

By nylabuyer |

The food was generally good, but the service was very rushed. Also, most disappointing was that the special dumplings from their lunar New Year menu were sold out. We were informed that they were planing to get them next week, hence they must come frozen and are not freshly made. We shared several dishes including: the satay platter, the chicken lettuce cups (we were not fans), Brussel sprout side and eggplant side. We also tried the ice cream/sorbet choices for dessert: chrysanthemum, spiced chocolate and pomegranate. Overall the flavors were interesting, but this was not the enjoyable experience we were expecting.

Great Happy Hour Deals

By Jill D |

$6 cocktails and great prices on shared plates for Happy Hour. Tasty signature cocktails to choose from as well as beer and wines. Tried a variety of food items. The Indian corn fritters were delicious. The chicken satay was flavorless and needed more seasoning and peanut sauce. The oysters were good.

Great for a group

By Derr4Sure |

We had a group of 7. Some of us vegetarian, some not. Excellent service. Can’t say enough good things about the mushroom dumplings.interesting menu. Good wine list

Yummy mix of fusion food

By Seunghye H |

We ate here because it was close to our hotel the day we arrived. It was Thursday night and crowded but we were seated tight away. The food was delicious! The best edamame I’ve ever had that we went back the next day to get more.

Really great service

By Paul D |

The staff were personable and happy to share what they knew about the menu offerings as well as the wines. While I did find the braised lamb noodle disappointing, the wood roasted edamame were delicious. A very different taste that the usual steamed.

Our favourite place for dinner in San Francisco

By Robin M |

Living in Maine, authentic Asian food is hard to find and as ex-Londoners, we miss it! We were delighted to discover E&O Kitchen and Bar on a very short stay last year. This year we were within easy walking distance and there was simply nothing to compare. We were always made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our rotating selection of small plates. I highly recommend the melt-in-your-mouth mushroom dumplings and my husband was deeply enamoured of the wood-fired naan (he chose the lamb, but there is a vegetarian option, too). The staff were friendly, the service was excellent and the food memorable. What more could one ask?

Finally a fabulous meal in San francusco

By Emma |

After extensive research decided on this restaurant. Great choice. Service was both attentive and friendly. I had a delightful gin and tonic with Hendricks Gin and the house lemongrass tonic. Refreshing and delicious. And so the food. We had: satay, spring rolls, chicken in lettuce baskets, spare ribs, lamb naan and salt and pepper calamari. All excellent. Nicely presented, flavourful and just great for sharing. Thoroughly recommend this place - shame we are off to Tahoe tomorrow or we would return!

Excellent and intriguing fusion restaurant

By Hoyle L |

We were looking for a good restaurant near the ACT Geary Theatre near Union Square and found this intriguing and wonderful restaurant! We came early at 5 PM when it opened on a Sunday, and it filled up rather quickly. This is a rather large restaurant with a long bar, and they know how to make an East Coast style martini! The chardonnay that wife had was excellent. The menu is a curious fusion of many Asian flavors, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai/Indochina, Indonesia, Indian, and French. We ordered oysters on half shell with Kimchi sauce (very fresh, wonderful sauces), Ahi tuna tartare (truly wonderful, fresh and delicious sesame oil hinted sauce), green papaya and cucumber salad (very fresh and tasty), salt and pepper calamari (crisp and tasty). For the main course, wife ordered the wood roasted char siu black cod, which was cooked just right with a delicate and tasty sauce, and I ordered their “famous” fritter burger, which uses corn fritters for the bun, and has many other fusion ingredients- this was huge and very tasty if a bit messy. The service was quite friendly and professional. This restaurant seems to be open 11 AM-11 PM except on Sundays when it opens at 5 PM. This Sunday evening, the noise level was reasonably quiet but one can imagine that it could be very lively on other nights, especially during the happy hour, which seems quite popular according to reviews. Our experience overall was quite positive- outstandingly delicious fusion food, excellent drinks, excellent service – we will definitely come back!

One of our favs!

By Bermytraveller |

On this our second visit, we decided to go with several small plates (mushroom dumplings, corn fritters and pork spare ribs) and one main meal (Pad Thai). Would highly recommend if in San Fran.

Good looking and good tasting food

By Alexander Y |

Visited this place seeking for a peek into Japanese food. I liked pad Thai - noodles were thin and cooked well enough, spices did not spoil, but enriched the dish.

delicious, excellent service

By SeeTheWorld4Peace |

The menu has many interesting variations on traditional items. The green papaya salad was good. The steamed duck buns were great, but the chicken lettuce cups lacked spiciness. The eggplant, Brussels sprouts, and green bean sides were great. The mud pie was great for dessert, but one would feed three or four people. We ordered too many. The place is not cheap, but you can get a great meal here.

Fun and Tasty

By Allesistschon |

Everything we had at this bustling Pan-Asian spot was very good. The crunchy corn fritters are justifiably famous, and the pad thai features fresh flavors that put it a big cut above standard versions of this dish. Service was friendly and attentive. The bar is jumping.

Good food and nice atmosphere

By OEHaga |

We weren't very hungry so we went for the small bites during happy hour. That gave us the opportunity to taste several things, and we liked them all very much. We were discussing which dish was our favourite, but we found them all very good. Would definitely come back here next time we are in San Francisco.

Great Asian Fusion Find

By Audrey K |

E&O was within walking distance of our hotel and with no reservations still got seats at the bar which as a couple in a loud restaurant we preferred. Had 3 small plates to share and the food was very good, served quickly but not all at once and the Portobello Mushroom Dumplings were SO good we went a second night just to have them! I still get peeved at being in California and paying top prices for California wines, yes some are very good but $80-100 is over the top

Stop there

By sdog41 |

Dropped in early evening on a Wednesday. Food was outstanding, an Asian mixture, including Indonesian, Indian, and Thai. We had dumplings, pork belly "tacos" using naan, prawn satay, and Indonesian rice. It's downtown San Francisco pricey, and noisy, but I hope to go again before leaving town.

Okay Asian-Fusion food at a convenient location

By Rennis K |

Went there for dinner recently and they were busy with the pre-theatre crowd. Our waiter was attentive and provided some input on the menu. We ordered cocktails and started with the corn fritters which we just okay. They provided a nice sauce that give it some flavor. We shared the Shakey Beef which was flavorful. We had a bottle of wine which was reasonably priced as well. Asian- fusion food isn't my favorite, so factor that in to my review. My wife loves Asian food and she wasn't too impressed. Could be just what we ordered.

Impromptu night out

By NCblue2 |

We were looking for a last minute spot that could handle a small group (8 people). The food, Asian fusion, and service were both very good. The ceviche especially. The mains were perfect portions for sharing but the smaller dishes were really only suitable for 1 or 2 people. We special ordered the pad thai extra spicy and the entire table loved it. Great evening overall and certainly worth the visit.

Great Dining Experience

By Dennis Atkinson |

We recently visited San Francisco for our stay-cation as we have been reading that San Francisco is re-opening due to COVID. Many of the restaurants are still not open, however, E&O was open for both indoor and outdoor dining. The food was great, and service was great as well.

Great dishes to share

By Fleur H |

Had a great evening meal with our 3 kids who all found at least something they enjoyed too. We had lots of plates to share. Crab dumplings, deviled eggs, ribs, chicken satay, panir naan, fried rice: eclectic Asian, but all good!

Excellent innovative good

By Megan F |

This is a great restaurant serving Asia fusion food. It is a buzzy restaurant with a nice ambience and excellent service. These are not cheap eats but you will certainly get value for your money given the quality of food and service.

Good food with a bit of a flare

By TravelingBbusFun |

I've been here a couple of times, and find the food on the unique side in a good way. It is not going to be a traditional Chinese restaurant for the area, and if you want an apparent more upscale Asian food experience than you would get a couple of blocks away in Chinatown, this would be a great place.

Really cool food presentation

By sarafoster79 |

I took a million photos of the presentation of the food, it was truly original and cool, especially the coconut thats served open half way. We could have received better service from our waitress who told us we were her "last table" of the night, but it didnt ruin our dining experience.

Delicious food Thai fusion lovely flavours.

By Castaway44 |

Took advice from trip advisor and wasn't disappointed. Really good food and excellent service The coconut curry ceviche with taro chips was fabulous served in a half coconut also the satay platter Very good value

What a shame - avoid

By Troels J |

A much anticipated dinner turned into a diner experience. The food is amazing but it is incomprehensible how such a smart establishment can serve the hottest dish first and not last. The Naan Lamb was served just before Ahi Tatare and there was no way the mouth fire could taste anything. But the biggest mistake is to get customers out of the restaurant with 45 minutes of arriving when the guests are enjoying 5 courses! We will never come back to be rushed this much again; a disgrace! And yes we asked not to be rushed; if had not we world have been out after 25/30 minutes.

Great food & Nice Atmosphere

Based on the recommendation of my concierge and the reviews on Tripadvisor, I tried out this restaurant. Asian cuisine tapas style with the possibility to eat at the bar. Great location as close to Union Square. Loved it. First time around I went for corn fritters, duck buns, Shiitake mushroom dumplings and spring rolls. Very tasty. Liked it so much that I went three more times during my business trip going up and down the menu. Third and fourth time I even got a dish for free. Very friendly and attentive staff. My fave dishes were Shiitake mushroom dumplings, baby back ribs, green papaya & cucumber salad and the duck buns.

Great food! Wonderful gluten free options

By sammyvictoria2018 |

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and accommodation for a member of our party with a gluten and soy allergy. Highly recommend the GF fried rice and GF shaken beef. Lots of interesting options on the menu. Friendly, helpful waiter.

Friendly vibe, great Asian flavours

By Sarah |

Situated just off Union Square this was a great spot for Saturday night dinner. The restaurant was lively and busy but they were still happy to take a table for one which can often be tricky on Saturday nights! Service was friendly and efficient, great recommendation of the rosemary infused gin cocktail, something i would otherwise have never tried but I’m very glad I did as it was delicious. Great selection of vegetarian options too, the edamame were the best I’d ever tasted and the mushroom satay was excellent. Overall a great meal and would highly recommend.

Excellent Dining Experience

By JERRYG448 |

As my wife and I had only one night in San Francisco we asked the desk clerk at our hotel for a dining recommendation nearby and he suggested the E&O. We were very pleased with our experience. The menu offers an interesting selection and we had the lettuce cup and Pad Thai which we shared and enjoyed very much. The sauces served with the lettuce cup allowed us to each have the level of spiciness we wanted. The Pad Thai met all expectations and enjoyed the generous selection of ingredients. Unlike many dining experiences for my wife this meal settled well and appreciated the freshness and preparation of our food. The service was friendly and efficient. Definitely would return to this restaurant if found ourselves in the area again.

Excellent cod entree!

By Francois B |

A friend and his family invited me to join them at this restaurant and I did not know what to expect. I ended up having a great meal in a very nice setting with great wine. So a wonderful choice. My friend and I ended up taking the black cod which was excellent. His wife took the Japanese rice dish and she really enjoyed it. The chardonnay was excellent and we finished with a very good mudpie for desert. Will definitely come again!

The worst service we have ever had

By Christen B |

This was probably the worst device I have ever had. I brought a party of 9, and not sure if the automatically added 20% gratuity meant the server didn’t care but it was awful. No one got a drink refill, Al of the dirty plates from appetizers and dinner sat on the table until we left. No check back, no one cared. The food was ok but nothing great. I would never recommend this place.

Excellent Pan Asian

By Doug R |

Eclectic Pan-Asian menu including everything from Sushi to Singapore noodles. We had a broad range of dishes and everything was delicious. Space is attractive and prices are reasonable. Not fine dining but a great place to have lunch.

Decent Asian cuisine

By Andrew Goh |

Serving the fusion Asian food ranges from Indian to south east Asia cuisine: dumplings, satay, ahi tuna, Indonesian corn fritters, Mongolian fried chicken etc.. here with company event have a private room at basement level. Food is average in Asian standard and environment is kind of chill. Enjoy

Tasty Fusion Food

By WillysWorld |

A group of four of us went there before a concert in Oakland and they were able to accommodate us without a reservation, which we appreciated very much. The food and the atmosphere did not disappoint. We ordered several noodle dishes, dumplings, and skewers. It was all hot, good, and full of flavor! The drinks were good too. The service was excellent and we were on our way to the concert without delay.

Good option for Union Square

By cja2k1 |

Perfect option for a nice restaurant that takes reservations and has portions big enough for sharing or eating by yourself. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The only reason for the average review: prices are on the high side and the food took a little while to get, especially for a lunch when speed is key.

Great place to share

By dd-bionic |

We got lucky and showed up with 6 people and no reservation right around 6pm on a Tuesday, but were able to get a table. Shortly after, they had a wait. We had a mix of entrees, from the burger served on corn fritters, to Pad Thai, Chicken Lo Mein, and couple appetizers. All were solid and the perfect type of thing to cut up and share. I thought the prices were reasonable too.

Good happy hour

By Zippy63 |

Good drinks, friendly staff and some good food options during happy hour. Will definitely visit again.

Bday lunch

By Farrah F |

This place is tucked in between buildings off the busy street of sutter. This place has a nice ambiance there is a second floor, the host and servers are wonderful ppl very nice. The food and drinks are good it is a bit pricey. Overall a nice place to get together with friends and try some new fancy Asian fusion

Festive and tasty

By HMRoch |

Fun evening with colleagues trying a variety of starters - corn fritters, calamari, naan, shiitake dumplings, ahi tartare, chicken spring rolls. Great assortment that led into dinner - black cod was fantastic - and group enjoyed pad Thai too. Mud pie required multiple forks for sharing and warm ginger cookies were a hit. Nice atmosphere and good service topped off the night.

Great happy hour!

By Eric F |

Great happy hour offering with nicely selected wines and an eclectic mix of Asian bar food. Indonesian fritters were taste with a touch of heat. The duck buns were delicious and not too doughy. Mushroom satay was loved by the Vegan. Service was prompt. Prices reasonable.

Delicious food and great service!

By glaymar |

Excellent place, service, ambiance, and food. Most of the dishes are deliciously spicy so beware if you don’t like spicy foods.

Quick Lunch

By Matthew S |

Spicy Pork sandwich was very tasty! Service was great and cool atmosphere. Would definitely go back!

Good place close to Union Square

By Rosemary B |

We had an early dinner prior to the opera. We were seated quickly and the service was excellent. I ordered the Cod which came on a bed of saute'd greens and asparagus. We had ordered a side of the spicy green beans and they were wonderful. My cod was cooked perfectly. My friend ordered the NY steak which came on a bed of saute'd peppers, onions and mushrooms. The flavor was delicious, but was a little tough even though it was rare. I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone who likes Asian fusion. Their menu had many great items on it.

Beautiful restaurant, bland menu

By Jon |

Starting with the positives, this is a modern beautiful and spacious restaurant that is relatively easy to get a table for a small or large group. It’s dimly lit and the semi round booths are nice. The menu however left a lot to be desired. The majority of our food was very dark and did not look appetizing, starting with the lettuce chicken cups that resembled a pile of black goo and the blackened chicken curry. The black cod was not good and would have been way better left cooked without sauce or seasoning. The beef was also very darkly sauced. I don’t know if it’s a theme but it didn’t sit well with us. The shrimp and chicken satay skewers were pretty good and came with a refreshing pickled vegetables. Overall the food tasted decent but the presentation took away from the experience.

Lovely food

By Mike A |

Enjoyed a lovely evening catching up with an old colleague who had recommended this place. We had several small plates between the three of us which were all delicious. Nice buzz about the place and maybe noisy near the kitchen but very good all the same.

Good Asian. Efficient Service

By Vickie R |

Accommodated and served our large party on very short notice. Service was friendly, efficient and great. Drinks and food both came very fast. Ordered a bunch of items and shared everything family style. Enjoyed everything we had including the pad Thai, filet, chicken eggrolls, ahi, calamari, ceveiche, green beans, New York strip and the cod were all great. Would recommend for a great dinner!

Lunch Break

By Chris H |

Recommended by the concierge at our hotel (Kimpton Sir Francis Drake). Asain cuisine with a nice offering of small plates as well as entrees. We opted for a selection of small plates that included the spare ribs and lettuce cups. While a little pricey the food was good. Nice place to cool your heals between Union Square and Chinatown.

Great!

By Lauraa |

I recommend this place!! Food was very good! And it’s not pricey for what you get! Here we got great SF experiece what is like to gave a perfect dinner in a city :)) ask for happy hour meniu, portions are not big so you will be able to try different meals 👍🏼

Awesome Asian food to not miss!

By Elizabeth G |

A bustling restaurant. Food was just so delicious! We tried different things on the menu and everything was superb! Make reservations to get a space.

Good food in downtown San Francisco

By Prisca B |

I went twice and I always had a very good food and good service The ingredients fresh, interesting menu my absolutely favorite the spares ribs But also the noodles and the fritters, the ahi tartare. Good portions and reasonable priced

Recommend the food

By SN |

The food was very good, the shitake musroom dumplings especially were exquisite, the satays were good too. The overall experience - ambience, service, etc. could have been just a tad better - but maybe because we went at a peak dinner time. I would definitely recommend the place

Handcrafted Asian Fusion

By DMG08003 |

There is something here for everyone. I have been visiting E&O for nearly twenty years. Each time is a new and wonderful experience. The food is always fresh, and tasty. The ahi, corn fritters, and duck buns are terrific small plates. I've never been disappointed with my meals either. And you must try their house-made ginger ale.

Elegant Restaurant

By Ushaan Abeywickrema |

Really good for a private business dinner, lovely food, combinations of fusion & Asian food... Service was excellent. I really like the privacy in the function area. Value for money....

Great food and vibe

By T.J. |

I went with a large group for dinner and we ordered just about 1 of everything on the menu. The ribs were a crowd favorite, the rice, skewers chicken and steak, and noodles all great.

A good find

By Jane A |

Lovely food, great ambience, comfortable seating area before and during dinner, large place, nicely decorated, staff knowledgeable about food and beer suggestions, would definitely recommend this place, we went for evening meal - would recommend sharing starters as it’s a great way to have a bit of everything! But I bet lunch is just st as good, thanks guys x

Locals enjoying a very good lunch, with good food & service!

By D i |

My girlfriend who lives in the city & I, who's lived just over the Golden Gate bridge for 20 yrs. decided to try this restaurant as we've not been here in years. We had a great lunch with good food items to share and the service was also good. It was not that busy, but did get very busy just as we were about the leave...great timing! We shared the green papaya & cucumber salad, Mixed Heirloom Tomato salad, Ahi Tartare, Butternut squash dumplings...all were excellent and we left not a single empty plate! :-)

Lunch

By Yelena O |

I have visited E&O Kitchen couple of times prior. The food varied in its consistency or perhaps depended on the amount of alcohol consumed prior to actually eating food. Yesterday everything was wrong. I took my 6 year old son for lunch since we were in the neighborhood. Got seated. Ordered Arnold - Palmers. Perhaps this is the only dish I can allow stars for. We ordered mushroom dumplings, pumpkin squash salad and fried rice and shrimp. The mushroom dumplings came in a miso sauce. I like mushrooms in all forms. The dumplings themselves were ok (mushrooms were in a paste form) as long as none of the miso sauce got on them. When I poured some of the sauce on the dumpling, my mouth went into convulsions. It was as if a bucket of salt was dropped accidentally into the dish and someone forgot to clean it up. I was glad I had water on the table. Next they brought rice dish and a salad. I was actually excited for the salad, however my excitement did not last long. I took a fork full of salad and my teeth had to fight fine sand on all lettuce. I thought perhaps this was just one piece of lettuce. Sorry my mistake. Add to that completely bland yogurt dressing that was covering less then 1/4 salad (perhaps all the salt ended up on mushroom dumplings) and the rest of salad was non edible. The rice dish was ok. A bit too oily for me and perhaps they need to revise the description of the rice from “rice with shrimp and pork” to “rice with shrimp and bacon”. I actually tasted sand on the lettuce in rice too. My son asked for desert after the meal and I ordered poached pear with rice ice cream. It also came with Palmier cookie. I ordered coffee. My son shared half of the cookie with me - unfortunately even that was a disappointment. The cookie was kept in a refrigerator and instead of crispy and flaky cookie that you usually get even from Safeway, the cookie was cold and dense. My coffee never came and after I mentioned to the waiter to take the coffee off the bill since we had to go, he said “oh, I forgot to bring it”. So $69 lunch inclusive of 4.5% mandatory San Francisco health tax ended up being a huge disappointment. Perhaps they need a visit from chef Ramsey!! Chef Ramsey HELP!!

First night in San Fran

By bella |

Arrived in San Fran dropped our bags then went to see the Chinese New Year parade. Afterwards looking for somewhere to eat and found this place. Slightly more expensive than some we used over the week but the food & service very good.

Really good but let down by poor service and hidden charges

By Philip P |

Great food and atmosphere, the menu has some really interesting food to be had, we had the Satay Platter, Chow Mein, and Char Siu Black Cod, all were excellent, along with some really hot (temperature) spring rolls, but the service was not great, out waiter messed up on several things and then tried to make up for it by continually offering to pour more wine in our glasses that we wanted keeping chilled in the bucket, third world problem I know but quite frustrating. Also on the bill was SF Employer Mandates, in addition to the tax and service, which is apparently a cost to insure the staff, this is a cost that should be written into the menu in my opinion.

Great Food and Atmosphere

By Bill B |

My Partner and I were here on a long holiday. We opted to stop here at E&O for mid-day food. Loved the Pu Pu Platter, Oysters and Dumplings. Plus the drinks were great, especially the Tequila Prickly Pear.

E&O Kitchen and Bar - Asian Fusion

By Extraordinary746155 |

The restaurant is larger in size than what it looks like from the front. It has an upstairs area that can hold a large work conference dinner set up for 50+ persons. The food is Asian fusion style small plates. The menus changes often. All the plates I had were excellent and the drinks were good too. Service was very good for the size of the dinner party we had.

Great place for asian fusion quisine

By DGE2014 |

Go to E&O Kitchen for great Asian fusion cuisine. The menu features dishes from Thailand (curries, pad thai,...), Malaysia (satay in different versions), and Canton/China. Not 100% authentic but this is not what you're looking for in a fusion restaurant. Great to go there in a group and if you're just order dishes for sharing in the family style. Lots of fun and great atmosphere. Great wine list. Reservation mandatory

No Condiments On The Table

By rking3170 |

That’s a sign of confidence in taste… and it’s earned. They did bring a sauce for the corn fritters. Attractive atmosphere, good service, filling food. Party of 3. We enjoyed the shareable portions.

Great restaurant

By RJH1992 |

Wow - what a great restaurant - great food and atmosphere and attentive staff - made sure we were looked after and couldn’t do enough for us. We had a walk in but think we were lucky so better make a reservation

My “go to” restaurant in Union Square

By sandranazzal |

Whether it is dinner or happy hour, you will not be disappointed with this gem in Union Square. Happy Tour is awesome with a nice array of appetizers very reasonably priced and flavorful. The happy hour wines are limited so if you are particular about your wines as I am, you may want to order from the full menu. The best pick if you’re in Union Square. I have been coming here for many years and I am a native San Franciscan.

Decent food

By Ramadurai R |

Had a chance to visit this place during a business trip. Despite reservations, had to wait for some time to be seated. Food choices were ok but nothing out of ordinary. Staff was great and courteous. Food quality was ok

Good food, slow service

By sara |

Took awhile to get approached/greeted after being seated. Took awhile to get our drinks from the bar....but worth the wait. Both of our cocktails were good. We ordered the chickpea fries and they didn't disappoint!! The deviled eggs were amazing, so we ordered another round!! The short rib sliders were ok. very tender, just not what I was looking for. We ordered the pad thai to share and I knew when it arrived I wasn't going to like it, as I could smell the fish sauce..............ugggg. someone had a heavy hand that night. So I couldn't eat it and that is what I was there for. I was too tired to send it back, but my husband had several bites of it, as his tastebuds/ smell is not as sensitive and keen as mine. The atmosphere was nice, but noisy. We sat in a booth by the bar. We will return when we visit again.

Lunch with family

By Rakesh A |

Asian fusion restaurant close to union square. Food is good. Lunch on a Saturday afternoon was a bit quite. Their pork chops are excellent. Worth a visit.

Great meal

By Lian F |

This place is a great option who are vegetarian. Restaurant has a wide selection for vegetation people. The staff was attentive and quick. I usually noticed restaurant with vegetarian options takes more time to serve as they have to prepare dishes fresh and from scratch. Here i appreciate the staff as the wait time was less. Food was delicious and fresh. Atmosphere was nice and pleasant. Would highly recommend for vegetarian people.

Asian snacks

Great coconut ceviche! White crisp wine , service overall cool place to eat and chill in downtown San Francisco

Great dumplings!

By Silvana P |

Had the butternut squash and mushroom dumplings which were absolutely superb! Pad Thai and tuna was good. Drinks were also good. Very nice decor. Glad we decided to try this place.

Superb meal

By AmberK |

We booked this place because of the great reviews and because it was within walking distance of our hotel. So glad we did. Nice decor. The place was packed with people. Very comfortable chairs. Nice menu with lots of little plates to share and try. Potstickers were to die for. The naan with lamb was amazing. The rest of the meal was very good. Only the Pad Thai was not to my taste (or my partners) as it was a "creative" version. Our waiter was great. Knowledgeable and fun. He brought samples of beer to try and knew to tell us when we had ordered enough food. Would definitely go again.

Asian Fusion. Friendly Servicr

By HonestSammy |

Able to find us a table on a Saturday night without a booking. The waiter was friendly and helpful. They know how to make a cocktail. And the food style is what I would call Asian fusion. Very tasty dishes. Definitely a winner.

Happy Hour

By _deemf89 |

While walking around the city we came across the happy hour sign outside E&O - $1 oysters, dumplings, and happy hour cocktail specials. Great food, well made beverages. Definitely a spot to return to.

Superb food and drinks

By don s |

Went there last night, sat at the bar. Very different drink menu it shows they put some time and effort into the choices. Bartenders are very creative and artistic. I had the Manhattan with the Amrut Indian whiskey, wife had the vodka with basil and matcha. We ordered the prawns satay as an appetizer as well as steamed duck buns and an order of Brussel sprouts of which case they brought green beans instead and then brought the brussel sprouts and did not charge us for the green beans. As a large dish we ordered lamb noodles which was fantastic all in all the meal was superb the bartender was attentive prices were very reasonable I highly recommend.

Great staff enhance dining experience

By Guts88 |

Visited twice during our stay in San Francisco. Large modern restaurant serving Asian fusion cuisine. Our first time was truly a wonderful dining experience with friendly service. The food was innovative & tasty. On our last day, we returned for Happy Hour which served $1 oyster followed by dinner. Happy hour cocktails were $6 each. The disappointment came when our second order of oysters arrived & were so small - they were not medium size as described by the waitress. We queried our waitress & got a nonchalant reply- ‘this is what comes out of the kitchen’. Our dinner dishes were delicious but didn’t receive the same kind of attention from staff. Our final evening was a fizzler hence only 4 stars.

Very good restaurant, with soft atmosphere

By Stephenkase |

This a was a pleasant surprise in San Francisco. Outstanding aubergine vegetarian starter and banana dessert (see pictures). Excellent spring rolls, but just OK main courses. Attentive service combined with a very welcoming, soft atmosphere. Cocktails good to very good, I would personally prefer with slightly less dry spices and more of a lemoney or salty component to certain specific spicy cocktails (see pictures). Fairly priced.

The food and service are amazing.

By Ian M |

We walked by this place a couple times but because we ate at the Wharf or in Little Italy the timing wasn't right for a meal until our last night in town. We went in a 8pm on a Monday night and the place was packed. For good reason. The food and service are amazing. We both agreed that had we eaten here earlier in the trip we would have had the majority of our meals here . . . and we had some great meals at other locations.

Excellent Asian Fusion and do visit during happy Hour

By Tommo |

We noticed this restaurant was recommended on the Tripadvisor Forum and saw they had a happy hour with beers from $4 and bites from $1 so it was too good to resist. The restaurant was also only a few blocks from our hotel The Donatello. Dishes we tried were Chicken and Mushroom Satay, Butternut Squash Red Curry Dumplings, Naan Bread, Hoisen Pork Ribs, Roasted Eggplant and Beef Short Rib Slider. We also tried a dish new to us called Japanese Bop which was like a Japanese Fried Rice with crispy rice, sunny side egg, spinach, pickles, red chili furikake, bonito flakes, and umeboshi plum. Unusual but delicious. All bites were delicious and I highly recommend visiting especially during their happy hour.

Large portions of tasty food

By TJJapan |

We went for restaurant week dinner so it was $40 per person for a 3 course meal. The portions are huge, which is a rarity in SF. Shrimp dumplings for the appetizer were delicious. Entrees included an outstanding piece of steelhead perfectly cooked and served on black rice and greens. It was gorgeous. Also had lamb noodles with pumpkin. That was filling and oh so good. Then dessert. Oh my. Matcha pudding with yuzu gelee. And chocolate decadence. We couldn’t eat everything and had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. Large wine selection, professional service and great atmosphere.

Great service and “comfort” food

By Tundra |

Great find based on a recommendation. Sat at the bar which is large with plenty of comfortable seats. Busy place. Service was fantastic! Very attentive and solid food recommendations. Dumplings are delicious! Have “normal seating” plus a couple of communal tables + bar seating. Will be back.

Superb meal, best we have had all holiday

By Robbo2435_12 |

Food was fantastic. The meat used was good quality it was so tender when cooked and everything was cooked fresh. If I lived in San Francisco I would eat here every day. Some of the best food I have had for along time.

Interesting restaurant with nice atmosphere

By Jon H |

Enjoyed a pleasant business lunch with a colleague. Menu had some interesting twists. Service was fine. Noise level made conversation easy.

Great Asian Food and lots of tasty bites

By Kerryloves2travel |

Ate here before theater on midday night. Lucky for us they have Happy Hour from 3-6pm so we were there for that. Wine $6.00 glass and was fine. Also has full bar. Dumplings $1.00 - yummy and corn fritters were so good we ordered another batch! Next we moved to regular menu -lamb naan, shrimp pad thai and chicken lettuce cups. All very good. We were running short of time & restaurant was busy so we passed on mud pie & got ginger cookies to go. What a treat for the theater! Service was friendly. Decided this would laso be a good spot for lunch break while shopping Union Square stores.

Always a solid choice

By Jeff |

Love EO. It’s always a fun spot. I think lunch is better. Being on the streets at night in SF isn’t very safe. We had an awesome midafternoon Long boozy lunch. The appsSmall plates are great. We tried as many of the smaller items as we could. All were good, several were very good.

Nice Asian Tapas Style Restaurant

By casilva54 |

We chose this restaurant to meet friends at primarily because of the location and Trip Advisor rating (being a 5 minute walk to Montgomery BART). Advanced reservations were made for a Saturday night and our table was ready when we arrived 10 minutes early. We ordered Tapas style and shared all dishes; anything odd sized were adjusted by the kitchen for four. Diner started with the Beef Short Rib Sliders and Kimchi/Pork Pot Stickers. We continued with the Butternut Squash/Gem Lettuce salad, Grilled Swordfish and Charred Black Cod. Dessert was Jasmine Tea Panna Cotta. Nothing was less than very good The Charred Black Cod was the stand-out dish, followed by the dessert. Service started out poor and ended up a little better than average. Value is good for the city. We lingered over dinner an never felt rushed in the attractive venue.

A good walk spoiled

By Paul A |

Atmosphere superb, food outstanding - after dinner service, unbelievably poor! Make no mistake, the food is world class and the evening, prior to having to settle the account, was excellent. HOWEVER, 50 minutes trying to settle ones check does test ones patience especially after a long trans-Atlantic flight and the fact that the waiter & manger could not produce factual paperwork to show that the numerous attempts swiping credit cards had in fact been voided! Never mind, a hearty apology was forthcoming BUT..... surely an offer to reduce the bill or some other form of compensation would have been in order? Would I recommend? Sure, just make sure to pay with cash.....

We had my four month old grandson and they gave us a perfect table. Lunch was amazing and the service was great. We Stu bled upon it and so glad that we did!

Delicious & Different

Great flavours and so fresh. The Salt & Pepper Calamari was fabulous, as was the platter of satay, spring roll and the Indonesian fried rice was also very good. Would recommend you book.

They Make it Personal!

By Woodrow C |

Over the weekend my Best Friend and I returned to this wonderful location after a one year absence. The bartender, Andy, immediately recognized us, even remembered our favorite drink! That just doesn’t happen in San Francisco, but it damned sure does in this jewel of a restaurant. The quality of the food is still exceptional, the drinks are superb, and the Happy Hours dishes are sensational. Needless to say we will return each time we visit The City!

Dinner

By kahughes2018 |

Amazing service and even more amazing food. We ordered 3 main meals and a serving of rice between 6 and it filled us all up perfectly-even with 2 men in the midst! They flavours in the meals were delicious so the food was devoured in a very short time period. All up we were very impressed with this restaurant and highly recommend it!

Very poor

By Donna211 |

I recently brought a business group here and was actually embarrassed at the standard of food. The corn fritters came out on two dinner plates.....for 16 people. There was probably 1 per person. I only had the main course which was a choice of chicken stir fry or salmon. For some reason both were on my plate and both were really poor. The salmon was tasteless and watery, the rice was plain and the stir fry was basic. Nothing inspiring, innovative, tasty or worthy of a return visit. The staff were good. Helpful, flexible and friendly. But the food really lets the place down. It also looks quite tired and certainly isn’t “high end” like the online descriptions would lead you to believe!

Great Fresh Asian

By lucius o |

Ordered the chicken spring rolls, brussel sprouts. Indonesian fried rice, chow m noodle chicken satay and Japanese bob with with steak. Service fast. Only criticism is why am paying the SF employer mandate !!!

Amazing Flavors, Nice Vibe and Great Service

By Swisscss |

We ended up trying many different small dishes, salads, appetizers and there was nothing that was not unique, fresh, flavorful and delicious. The variety was amazing and the service was excellent. The combination of flavors was unique and delicious! Very nice vibe, could be a bar get together place after work or a nice date dinner out.

Share the dishes for a great experience

The waiter Enrique helped us with the choices of dishes and he was right on. The Spring Rolls, Ceviche, Lettuce cups Shaking beef, and indonesian fried rice were wonderful. Finish with a mud pie.

Place is great, food is delicious and with a lot of flavor, very crowded so call in advance and make a reservation.

Delicious food, good service.

Popped in during the week for dinner. The place had nice tables available and the service was great. Ordered the Chicken Satay, Butternut Squash Dumplings and Indonesian Corn Fritters. Delicious

Impressed

By LennandLorraine K |

My party of 4 decided to order a bunch of share plates because there was so much on the menu that sounded really appealing. We were pleased with our decision, as we were all able to sample several different and truly yummy dishes. The Roasted Butternut Squash & Sweet Potato Salad was simply delightful. There were plenty of each of the two hearty vegetables, and they, along with the gem lettuce, were lightly yet completely dressed with the light, but fully-developed curried yoghurt dressing. The roasted pumpkin seeds, goat cheese and grapefruit segments were the perfect toppings for this great-for-sharing large salad. We also shared the Salt & Pepper Calamari, which were crispy and plentiful, and the Grilled Baby Back Ribs, which were smoky, sweet and saucy...AND so tender they just fell off the bone. With 4 pieces/plate, it makes for the perfect sharing appetizer. The Satay Share Platter came with 2 of each of the following satays: chicken, steak, prawn & portobello mushroom...each one either marinated or accompanied by a dipping sauce. The portobello mushroom satay, for instance, was lightly covered with a soy glaze and was very enjoyable. My personal favourite of our shareables was the Chicken Lettuce Cups. A half dozen (or more) baby lettuce leaves were available to build our own hand-treat full of a super yummy mixture of chicken, shiitake mushrooms, pine nuts and water chestnuts. A light drizzle of one or both of the adjoining sauces (hoisin and hot) and it was a party in my mouth! Besides the sumptuous food, we also very much enjoyed the ambience. This restaurant can seat a LOT of patrons and it is decorated in warm brown, red and orange tones. The staff were all polite and friendly and we felt very well taken of. All in all, it was a great experience, and one we hope to repeat.

After more than 20 years, still one of the best.

By inog |

An Asian-fusion classic in the city, close to Union Square and Chinatown, but largely off the radar of most tourists. This is a modern (20+ years now) tiki chill lounge in line the international Buddha Bar franchise, but without the late-night music / party aspect of that chain. Don’t expect to see bamboo and kitsch like the Tonga Room, this is more Singapore than Palau. But also expect a similar upgrade in the refined food and drinks. Though if you really want that tiki cocktail, they can do that for you. Lunch or dinner, or best about 4pm, this is one of those ‘must hit’ spots for me in the city.

Great Food, Great Staff, Wonderful Experience!

By adrenalinejunkie2000 |

My friend and I had attended a lecture nearby and decided to duck into E&O for a quick bite. Little did I know it would become my new favorite! The hostess was very nice and courteous and immediately showed us to a table. The waitstaff were very nice, friendly and attentive. But the food....YUM! I had had lettuce cups before, but they use gem lettuce so you can actually taste the lettuce. Plus their spices for the filling were fantastic! We also had the chick pea fries which were also seasoned incredibly well. I've had salt and pepper calamari before in many places and had a good meal....here, I could have eaten a whole bag! It had just the right coating, the right spices/seasoning and it was not greasy. It came with a dipping sauce but it was so good as is, I barely used the sauce (which was also really tasty). You can tell they use very fresh food, it shows in how the food tastes. The whole experience here was so enjoyable, I can't wait to come back!

Nice fun casual place to celebrate special occasion

By acli |

Fun place to go after work in SF or just want to hangout. Casual, lots of energy and cool menu selections for cocktails and dinner. Mostly tapas style dishes which is great if you want to try different dishes. Asian fusion theme. Got special spaces to accommodate larger groups. Downstairs has a small banquet style space too.

A nice but noisy place

By Harun R |

This restaurant is located very near the Chinatown entrance and you can find parking at the Sutter/Stockton garage. On arriving it was very busy so reservations is highly recommended. My friend and I decided to stick to the small plates and skip the entree dishes. We ordered the raw oysters, curry cerviche, butternut squash wontons, beef ribeye sliders and shittake wontons. The server was prompt and the food came out in a nice sequence which did not overcrowd our small table. All the dishes were quite good but the butternut squash wontons were outstanding. All the curried sauces reminded me of Thai yellow curry. In the menu there were different dishes that were labeled Indonesian but I did not recognize them. The atmosphere was very busy and crowded with tourists and local business people. It was hard to carry a conversation at times as the noise level was significant. Definitely not a romantic destination. The tables were somewhat small so ordering more then 2 dishes would be an adventure. Prices was reasonable for the SF downtown location and I may come back again to try some of the other dishes.

Tasty food with Gluten free options

Here for business this was between two hotels my colleagues and I were staying at. We had friendly efficient service and we thought the food was good. They had helpful staff when it came to discussing options for our various dietary requirements and we both found something tasty to eat.

First but propably last visit here

Very good food and nice atmosphere but unbelieveble hurry to finnish our dinner. We had still dessert ongoing and vine in glasses when the waitress brought us our bill. That made us feel that please leave as soon as possible. Not a place where to spend nice and peacefull evening.

E & O Kitchen & Bar

By Prem N |

The E&O Kitchen & Bar located in downtown San Francisco is a classy place with an excellent food & bar menu. The food is of the Asian fusion variety with wonderful cocktails. Pisco Sour is an unique cocktail which is tangy, sweet and a bit sour. Suggest reserve your table in advance as getting one otherwise may be difficult.

Friendly waiter but terrible food

By Frijolitas A |

Disappointing experience. Food was not great. Pad Thai was terrible. Bland and tasteless. Calamari was also tasteless and very greasy. Ambience is lacking and somewhat ruined by the giant TV screen showing sports over the bar area. On a positive note, our waiter was friendly. Unfortunately, if it's decent Asian food you're after, this is not the place.

Disappointing

We found most of the meal to be just average. It's a large restaurant and the tables are quite close together. With all the choices for dining, I would skip this one.

Very nice food and experience

By Inmotion2 |

We very much enjoyed our dinner and experience at the E&O Kitchen and Bar. We had been there many years ago during a trip to San Fran and had pleasant memories, and the restaurant did not disappoint. The service was excellent, and the filet mignon, butternut squash and mushroom dumplings and the corn fritters were delicious. Paneer naan was decent--could have had a little kick, but was helped by the side sauces. The lamb noodles were less interesting--watery and not so flavorful. The main challenge was finding enough substantial food for the one vegetarian in our party--had to order many small plates to make do. The menu would benefit from a couple of solid veggie mains--Indian and Thai food offer so many great options that seem to have been missed. The same on deserts--the Asian fusion option could be more effectively tapped. The panna cotta was very good, but the mud pie was ordinary and overpriced. It was a pricey evening, but overall a good experience.

Understaffed

Great food and atmosphere but I think they were understaffed. We waiting a bit till someone came and took our order. Was not the best pad thai but the mushroom dumplings were good and the edamame.

A pleasant surprise while walking the area

By WanderingOttersons |

We had some time between appointments in the area and were looking for a snack. We happened upon this place and just decided to stop with no information on preconception. So glad we decided to eat here. It's listed as Asian cuisine but definitely not traditional with some modern additions to the flavors. The plan was for a snack but as usual we ordered far more than we needed. Even we could not finish the dishes. Chicken satay was well cooked and mildly seasoned but the peanut sauce brought out the flavor even more. Indonesian corn fritter bites were surprisingly one of our favorites. Simple and good, especially with the sweet chili sauce. you can't go wrong with dumplings and the shrimp and chicken siu mai was excellent. The best for us was the steamed pork buns which is always a favorite. The cooked yet doughy buns are a treat. Soy-braised pork, hoisin and pickled radish slaw just add so much more to the delicious buns. Would definitely come back here several more times if we were in the area more frequently.

Good Asian food, great service

Walking by and decided to try. Very good service and the food was great. Tried the pad Thai and was awesome. Would go back !

Hit and miss

Not sure I'd come back here. The food was just so-so. Salads and fish was good, fried rice not so good. Dessert was stale and most of us never finished it. Staff were friendly, but still just average. To me, there are many better choices within walking distance.

Real Nice

This is a great place to go if you are hungry, good portion sizes. Food is reasonably priced and delicious! Lots of flavour. Look forward to going back next time I’m in San Fran.

Happy Hour Challenge

By SMFSanFran |

We had a great dinner! Everything was delicious. We especially loved the corn fritters. The pu pu platter is a terrific bargain and has a great variety of items. But here’s my problem: happy hour prices are only valid in the “front” of the restaurant. I used open table to make a reservation and then called to request a “front of the house happy hour table” - the woman on the phone (whose name I had) said sure, ok. But when we arrived those tables were full and they took us to a “back” table and said we couldn’t have the happy hour menu/prices at that table. After much quiet, respectful, but stubborn back and forth, we were seated at a back table and “allowed” the happy hour menu/prices. The prices are significantly economical and though the portions are smaller, even adding extra fritters, naan bread, and sliders- it was a very reasonably priced dinner (similar to small plates tapas-style dining) and worth being tough about. And, as I said at the beginning, it was all delicious. Just be aware - it’s very busy during happy hour and if you speak to someone on the phone about a reservation - get their name or talk to a manager. Having to create even a quiet scene does put a damper on the evening and the food is too good to let that happen.

Fabulous Food and Outstanding Service!

By SSandFamily |

Our party of five thoroughly enjoyed our evening at E&O Kitchen, which is conveniently located just a couple of blocks from Union Square. Our starters/small plates, large dishes and desserts (all shared family style) were fabulous, especially the unique Indonesian corn fritters, crispy chicken spring rolls, lamb naan, green papaya and cucumber salad, Indonesian fried rice, Pad Thai noodles and warm ginger cookies. Looking forward to returning for the Shaking Beef and much more. Manager Kelsey McNellis and her team were All-Stars - friendly, courteous and highly attentive - overall fantastic service from a refreshingly enthusiastic and very well-trained team of professionals. We will return!

Busy restaurant in the centre of town.

By GoWithoutBorders |

I ate here on my own and was lucky to get a small bar table when I went around 7pm. If they do reservations over the phone I would recommend that. Whilst this place is trendy and the menu nice, the fusion food is average at its best. It tries hard to make Asian food, but I believe they do not succeed at it. My server told me she would be back in 1 minute to take my order. After that, she got busy with other people and things in the restaurant and totally neglected me. 10 minutes later I had to ask another member of staff to get my server to come to my table to take my order. I had satays and spring rolls which were just OK.

Great Cheeseburger at an Asian Restaurant

By The_Loup_Garou |

Great Cheeseburger at an Asian Restaurant We were staying around the corner from E&O Asian Kitchen at 314 Sutter St, at the edge of San Francisco’s Union Square Area, on our second trip to San Francisco in July. I had read of it, on the TripAdvisor San Francisco Destination Forum, and it always got great recommendations, so I decided to try it for lunch one day, and I was glad that I had done so. I arrived, just as they were opening for lunch, and entered, taking in the interior - it could have been a restaurant in Thailand, or many other places in Southeast Asia/Malaysia. I spotted the bar, to the right, and rear of the dining room and the little “living room” waiting area, and took a seat. The bartender was just setting up, and had the menu to me quickly. I looked over the wines B-T-G list, and decided on Laurenz V. “Singing” Grüner Veltliner, from the short, but interesting wine list. I was really not in the mood for Asian, though I was seated in an Asian restaurant and bar, as we had done Thai, and Japanese for three dinners, already. Yet, I had read so much about E&O, that I was determined to eat lunch there. I mentioned my dilemma to the bartender, and he highly recommended their “E&O Cheeseburger,” on house-made scallion bun, with white cheddar, kim chi sriracha aioli, house-made pickles and togarashi fries. Sounded good, so I ordered that, along with a glass of Trig Point “Diamond Dust” Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. I hesitated over the Robert Biale Black Chicken Vineyard Zinfandel, but as I have cases of that in my cellar back in Phoenix, decided on a wine, that I had never tasted, and the Trig Point was one. Turned out to be a good pairing with the Cheeseburger. Now, the Cheeseburger is a monster, and it had to be cut, to be eaten. The burger patty was cooked perfectly, and was tasty and juicy. The bun was also very good, as were the cheddar and kim chi sriracha aioli. The fries, seemed to have been hand cut, and not out of a 25 lb sack from the freezer - a great burger, and I would rank it about #3, or 4, on my continuing “Burger Quest in San Francisco.” This was a burger, worth returning for, and in an Asian restaurant. The restaurant did fill up with lunch-time diners, and it seemed that the staff knew most of them, so I would say many were returning locals - always a good sign. The noise level rose a bit, but not too badly, given the crowd. The lighting over the bar was more than adequate, and I have to give the bartender credit for still checking on me, even when the crowds picked up. The main dining room was smallish, but looked comfortable, with good lighting too. I saw a balcony, but do not know if there was additional dining upstairs, or if this was just an architectural element? The décor was very tasteful, and maybe even a tad understated - attractive. I have another lunch option in San Francisco, though our trips are winding down now, and would not hesitate to order the Cheeseburger again, even in this Asian restaurant.

Good Asian flavors but very busy/noisy

By Culas |

We were craving Asian flavors and didn't want to walk too far. Found this place on Google maps and booked through OpenTable. They did a good job with most of the Asian dishes that we ordered. Pad thai could be better though. It's a very busy place and is quite enormous with two levels and full of after work crowd.
