Solid food, entertainment and atmosphere

By Nick |

My friend group had a nice time in the throwback 50s style diner. Smokestack was our server and he was entertaining. He gave us just the right amount of harassment. The food was good, the atmosphere solid and the service was excellent.

STAY AWAY

By esmirelda |

When you first sit down & are treated rudely with an explanation it's sort of funny, let's say a different experience. But it get old quick especially when a server was trying to show how uncouth he was by throwing an empty catsup bottle to a bin by the last booth & hit some woman in the head! NOT FUNNY ANYMORE! The prices are expensive. Are order wasn't what we wanted but paid so we could get out of there. I must say the music and DJ were fun.

A great time

By Matthew W |

Squeak was amazing. Service with the roll of the eyes! Good fries and good curds. Soda was good as well. Let’s hope the rest of the food is good.

Food plus some extra

By Lucas D |

Peachy Keen was outstanding. Great all around, so fun. The food was great. Peachys service was so great, the service in general was amazing. In a great city also.

WHAT A MEAL!

By Hope G |

We came here with a group of friends and had an impeccable time. We had the wonderful service of Smokestack where he charmed us with his witty personality. Everyone’s food was delicious and an overall 10/10 experience!

Visit to the big city

By Suzi M |

Amazing time, food and atmosphere! Sugarfoot was our server and did a 5 star job. Can’t forget about the DJ that kept the energy up.

Good service

By Beckett B |

Fish food dances for us twice, it was outrageous that I wanted the BBQ burger without BBQ. that Sunday was infact very small.

Classic Chicago experience!

By SHARON M |

This place is fantastic! Always a good time. Miss Kitty kept us laughing and embarrassed our children appropriately 😂

a must! great vibe, good food - friendly & cheeky staff!

By Tommaso |

Spent 2 weekends in Chicago prior and after a week of business stuff. Ate at Ed's twice....nice experience on both occasions. Has a traditional American dinner interior & atmosphere - also the staff's outfits and hairdo's fit well....making it an experience. Think of Grease! Food was really good, sizeable portions (especially for a European!). Affordable. And loved the fact that servers would make conversation, even come and sit at your table for a bit. They can be a little cheeky in comments/replies but all in good spirit and fun. If you're exploring Chicago - this is one of the places you'll want to go.

One of a kind - must visit

By Fernreise |

Already waiting for the table you realize that you are not in a normal restaurant and when we were at the table, the fireworks started right away. Not only do the waiters look bizarre, they are. By far the worst service. And they're proud of it. And we loved it. Has something of live theatre, which of course it is in the end. We had a Booth right on the dance floor, which was great when the waiters performed there to “Car Wash”. Oh yes - the food is super delicious. “Kitchen sink nachos” with pork were just as great as the burgers. We had a lot of fun.

Sensational

By Jessica J |

Scout was amazing! The best experience ever! He is also a good dancer! Great delicious food! We laughed so much! We will come back, when we are in Chicago again!

Fun!

By Michelle W |

Great atmosphere and good food! Loved sugarfoot our waiter! This is a must when you are in the area. Take the kids, they will love it!

Fun!

By Christy T |

Smokestack was an incredible server!! We were here to celebrate my daughter’s 10th birthday and they treated like a queen! The servers were entertaining even with some dancing.

Great place to start your day!

By Smkymtnrev |

Had a great “sassy diner” experience here this morning. Topanga was my waitress and she played the role perfectly. She was quick-witted, playfully sharp tongued and lots of fun. (My heavy southern accent earned a reprimand for breaking the “ please speak clearly when ordering rule.” She also provided great service. Food was good, prices were value oriented, facility was bright neon retro and truly clean. A good choice if you’re in this part of the city.

Bring your kids, it's hilarious!

By 161angk |

We went here for breakfast during the week since it wasn't busy, wish we would have gone there for lunch or dinner when it was a bit more packed so we could have seen more of the craziness with the wait staff. It would have also been a lot more fun if we had our kids with! Our server, Garbage Can, was hilarious! Breakfast food was ok, atmosphere was great.

Entertaining

By Trek54137646860 |

Ed's is a super fun place and the food is good too! Diner atmosphere and food. The staff is hilarious, as long as you enjoy sarcasm! If you're lucky you'll get to see them dance. I highly recommend Ed's as an entertaining stop!

A must place to visit in Chicago

By BuckeyeGal |

What’s a trip to Chicago without a visit here! Love the sass, dancing and of course the food!!! We had the infamous burgers and yummy fries. I was too full for a shake, but we’ll be back!

Must do In Chicago!

By Rebecca H |

Johnny Benchwarmer is the best! Ask for him by name! Must have experience in Chicago. You won’t regret it! Don’t come with a thin skin lol

Fun place to grab a bite and a laugh in Chicago

By Jessica L |

Super fun place to grab a bite to eat. Peachy, Dean, Patty, and Grant were fantastic. Food was quick and tasty. Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5

5 Star experience 🤩

By Kasiafrankowska |

Absolutely amazing !!! What a fun place for breakfast, fantastic service !!! The best pancakes ! The whole experience was super! Miss Kitty made our visit super special ! Thank you girl 💕

Miss Kitty hisses but doesn’t bite!

By SHARON M |

This was a spate of the moment date night and it did not disappoint. This location, while it is not as the big or as ‘vintage’ as the old 50’s Ed Debevic’s, it still had the flavor and the atmosphere harken back to the ‘good ol’ days.’ The tunes are still about 30 to 40 years old. The surly and spicy waitstaff are timeless. And the neon signs are all aglow. Miss Kitty, our server, was definitely the cat’s meow. The food was delicious! We will for sure be returning with the kids.

Exceptional service

By Emily S |

Such a great experience! Sugarfoot was our waiter and he provided exceptional service with a side of sassy sarcasm. Will definitely return!

Rude and funny - Perfect

By FriendsofWelicar |

Exactly what we expected, cheery and rude staff. This was our second visit in 2 days so theyre obviously doing sometbing right. I'd like to think I gave Janny as good as she gave us. Great food at reasonable prices. Im sure we'll be going back there before we leave Chicago next week.

Ed’s is Back!

By Kirk M |

Twinkles did not disappoint. Food reminded me of the old location. Burger and Shake typical diner fare! Service was exactly as expected but not over the top which in today’s world would get a bad rating!

Dinner and a show, eventized burgers worth every cent.

By Michelle H |

So fun! Our server, Lolly Gagger, was hilarious and appropriately insulting. My young adult kids and I had a great time. It was fun to show them this iconic Chicago landmark that I remember from my high school years. New location but still the same great food and vibes.

Fun meal!

By Kathy S |

This was a fun meal with Eugene as our server! The food was yummy and the atmosphere was lively with good music, dancing and “rude” workers!

Wonderful experience

By Gianna B |

Johnny benchwarmer was fabulous and helpful food was excellent and atmosphere we loved Johnny helped us decide what we going to eat and helped us with touring the city he was a delight

If you want some laughs you have to go to Ed's

By Mary K |

We loved going there 30 years ago & were so sad when it closed. Now, going back to the new one was wonderful. They didn't miss a beat. Spike made it just as wonderful as we remembered it to be. I think the various costumes will only add to the experience.

She doesn’t talk

By lissette A |

Food was delicious. Service was great and served in a timely manner. The dance was funny. Sassy place a lot of fun !! If you in Chicago you definitely need to stop by!

Laughs and yummy food!

By Larue1987 |

Gingeee was the perfect blend of “whatever” and fun. My son and I had a yummy lunch (turkey Reuben with slaw instead of sauerkraut for me) and enjoyed the whole experience. Gingeee made the experience great, but Gingeee was no sweetheart, I promise. Anything we said Gingeee had a snappy retort and when the servers danced, Gingeee stole the show! If you don’t get the joke, don’t go to Ed’s, if you can lighten up and want to laugh, definitely go!!

Depends on who you get

By richard g |

Ehh. It was okay. Our server was just okay. She had a few moments but not enough to be considered rude. Her version of being rude was to just ignore us and visit as little as possible. We were jealous of the server next us. He was loud, clever, funny, and very rude to his guests. We were all paying attention to him and he made us all laugh. Our server wasn't special but the other server kind of made up for it.

Band kids

By Sara G |

Great place that accommodated our group of 100+ teenagers! Fun, fast service. Come see Babs aka Safari Barbie and Smokestack their friends!

Fun experience!

By Jamie S |

Johnny Benchwarmer was fabulous!!! He made things fun for the kids and adults! We were with 17 people and got our food really quick and it was very good!

Glad they’re back!

By Charity S |

We had a great time! Johnny benchwarmer was a fantastic host! The performance was so much fun. The food and drinks were awesome!

Hilsrious Option for Families

By natalieb |

Hadn't visited here since my son was young, so I really didn't know what to expect when I took my five-year-old granddaughter during a girls' trip. She loved it! She thought it was completely silly and loved telling her daddy all the details about how funny it was. The food was tasty and served with an appropriate level of snarkiness. My granddaughter can't wait to go again.

Great Fun

By Barry B |

Place has excellent food, ols school dishes (black cow float, meatloaf sandwich). Fun staff in 50s attire and good music, plus a great dance every now and then.

Missouri Grove

By Coastal02865723881 |

Very accommodating to our group of 20, laughs with Buzzy, and great picture memories. The food was delicious and hot. Loved the dancing!

Groovy Visit

By Marie B |

Johnny Benchwarmer knocked it out of the park as our server! Lots of laughs! Loved the regular dance breaks and delicious food!

Awesome

By Pamale S |

Axel Danger is great and funny. Very helpful explaining for out of town folks. Definitely love this place. Would recommend to anyone visiting or living in the area.

SAFARI BARBIE FOR THE WIN

By Travis Timmons |

Had a great experience! Safari Barbie made it very worthwhile. Though the doll is absolutely useless, the server made us a laugh and made it a memorable experience. I wanted her to made my niece cry, but that was unsuccessful - but she deeerves this 5 star review even though that endeavor was fruitless Also 10/10 YMCA skills

Great and Fun Service

By Unknown322 |

Our waiter was awesome and fun. The food was average. Had the pulled pork and it was OK. This is a place to go have fun and let your hair down. It is on average for the cost of downtown.

Ed Debevic’s

By Nathan H |

The experience was good. The service was great, and the entertainment was very fun. The food was okay, but worth the price.

First visit to Chicago

By Sara |

Scout was rude and we loved it. He is delightfully obnoxious. The food was delicious . Well worth the visit. Scout made me write this before i could leave.

Such a fun, funny dinner!

By katie126 |

We had a larger group of family in town, aged 7-70s, and our favorite meal of the weekend was at Ed Debevics! Our server was Axel, and he was fantastic! Bring your sense of humor and come prepared to be roasted! Axel was equal opportunity in giving us all a hard time, but at the same time gave good food and drink recommendations. If you’re easily offended, this might not be the place for you. But if you have a sense of humor and want an entertaining, memorable meal, this is the place for you. Our kids are begging to go back-we loved it!

Fun brunch in Chicago

By r0bbelfast |

Decent food. Big helpings. The USP is the experience - the staff act deliberately rude which makes for good fun. Enjoyed the diner and would go back when next in Chicago.

Ed’s did not disappoint!!

By cdskidz268 |

Had a blast Miss Kitty was fun friendly and sassy! She sings amazing. The DJ was super energetic and had us beeboppin and doowhoppin our whole dinner! Definatley a good stop on your next visit to Chicago!

Yummy, fun!

By Daniel S |

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Glad we found it. Schmullen our server was hilarious! Meatloaf sandwich was a hit! Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous

By kelly b |

FABULOUS!!! Great food but goodness did we laugh!!! First visit and we will be back soon!! Smokestack was charming, erudite and magnanimous!

Food was 🤢

By Kelley N |

We were excited to dine at the new location- we had a great time when my boys were little. The restaurant was clean and well done, the waitstaff were awful (in a good way). But the food? Awful. Not one of our party of 5 ate more than a few bites of any of our food: burgers, club sandwich, chicken sandwich, and chicken tenders. $150 for dinner and we still needed to go get dinner 😫

Shut it down!!!

By Kimmy B |

The worst experience I've ever encountered. They are absolutely rude and take it far beyond any acceptable level. They do not learn their customers and don't give a crap about anyone at your tables feelings, young or old. They start their ignorant, rude, disrespectful, disgusting behavior even from the front hostess station. No food is worth the kind of treatment they dish onto their customers and it's mediocre at best anyways. Do not take your children then to watch them humiliate u as well as scare the heck out of them while they scream at them and call them idiots, morons and imbeciles. They go way beyond this and continue to the point where they try to dictate your meal selection, when and if u are getting your bill to remove yourself, trying to hold u hostage. By far the worst place to ever go in your life. This is the place that I could see everyone inside getting shot up at with the way this world has become. If u want pleasant or peaceful dining don't go here. If u want to be able to eat your food, don't go here. Your stomach will be in so many knots u won't be able to eat the food in front of you. All I can say is never again.

Hilariously rude, comical and great fun!

By ElaineWB |

W spotted this place on our first night in Chicago so decided to go for breakfast next morning. Absolutely loved it! Our server, Fish Face, yep that’s what he said his name was, was hilariously rude and comical in equal measures! The food was good and they served huge portions, which I guess is normal in the USA. It was conveniently near our hotel, so we went back twice more to be insulted, variously by Garbage Can and Ziggy! On our last morning, they were up un a bench dancing to Car Wash and the atmosphere was brilliant. They scrunched the bill up and threw it at us, when we were ready to pay, and complained loudly when we asked for more milk or butter Whilst the food was good, the atmosphere was great and I’d definitely go back. Not however, the place to go for silver service though!

Great food with some snarky fun staff!

By Kennedy S |

Great food with some snarky fun staff! B rat was hilarious. The food was out very quickly and the place was well staffed! All families will enjoy.

Insolent server,bad food

By canaud |

The waiter was quite unpleasant, he gave me orders and try to intimidate me obviously I didn’t let myself be done, I suspect he spit in my dish indeed when a yellow molard is deposited on my avocado toast I have doubts. The waiter insulted me and was ready to come to hand I advise you not to go there lamantable Service

so so burger

By johanekenstierna |

burger was so so. Concept was so so. This was not at all what i expected for a nice burger place. Interior design is nice, but skip the DJ. Don’t recommend.

Eat and Get Out! 😝

By chackbarth |

Awesome experience! Miss Kitty was the best! Great fun and good food! Burgers were huge and they have the worlds smallest ice cream sundae LOL!

Fuggin hilarious 😆

By Karyn Arlene R |

This place saved our lives! We had a rough day at the hospital and randomly stumbled into this place with no idea what we were in for. The staff was hilarious, they had us fuggin cracking up laughing! The food was great too. We ate it and took our fat asses home as we were told🤣

Fun place, good burgers and shakes!

By VancityGal |

I heard about this place from a talk show when David Schwimmer and Mark Ruffalo said they worked here. We happened to stumble by when after our river boat tour and since it was lunch time and I recognized the name, we went inside to check it out. Totally kitschy, fun and lively. Also enjoyed the hats and the sarcastic demeanor from our waitress. Food was perfect diner food. I had the moon burger and a strawberry shake which hit the spot. Waitresses were yelling at people all over the restaurant which we found amusing. Lots of fun, good diner food, we would come back again.

Sugarfoot

By Ruth Ann M |

Sugarfoot is the best. Funny, charming & really nice. Great service & great food. A nice place for a good breakfast ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing Miss kitty

By Nancy G |

Miss kitty was amazing and made my friend and me first time in Chicago a memorable experience. Someone give this woman a raise!

Great 50’s diner theme with fantastic food and wildly entertaining servers

By Sunshine V |

We spent a full week in Chicago, eating 😂 what a great city. Our last day, on our way to the airport, exhausted, and really just looking for good food, we ended up at this restaurant. I had no idea what I was in for! First, let me say, the food was incredible. The best chilaquiles I’ve had in so long. The fries were perfect. But more than that, the service was incredible. Gingee was amazing, a little bit evil, and perfect 😂 if you have no color in your soul, this might not be the place for you, BUT, if you want great food at very fair prices and an unforgettable service experience, don’t sleep on this restaurant. Thank you Gingee. What a fun, delicious place

Amazing breakfast!

By carlislejenny |

Clammy was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend!!!! The bread pudding French toast was the best!

Very bad experience

By Helga50 |

Frankly, even if the burgers are okay, how can customers accept being mistaken for idiots by waiters who "play a part", throw you menus, straws, bills, speak badly to you and are supposed to amuse the gallery with their ridiculous sketch? We are at a stage where public humiliation is practiced (you are asked your name at the moment you arrive, and then it can be used during a message broadcast over a speaker in the restaurant, to call you a moron .....) Perhaps it is our education that made us find this experience very unpleasant, to be honest, incomprehensible, and made us very uncomfortable. Paying to be treated as less than nothing, no thanks, it borders on masochism. Where's the humor and fun in there? If you are looking for a normal restaurant, there are plenty of others nearby, where you can eat serenely.

Must try in Chi Town

By Amy R |

Food was good and restaurant was clean. Atmosphere is nice as well. SmokeShow was a great server! The show is entertaining as well.

First time here will come back

By Ryan H |

Great service! Even better service! Schmullen was awesome! The breakfast skillets were to die for! The staff dance was a highlight of the visit.

Great time

By Aline G |

I went there with my friends and we had the worst time with Baba. Never coming back again. She was happy that we were leaving.

Sugarfoot needs to be your server!!

By jazmine |

Sugarfoot was absolutely amazing!! Very attentive and good banter and sarcasm was perfect!! I can't wait to come back and visit! The food was amazing, I got the roadside burger and onion rings and it was so delicious. I'll be back on my next visit to Chicago

Horrible and hostile service!!!!

By Denise Assumpcao |

The service was awful, rude, rude and extremely embarrassing!!! There's nothing funny about being abused by an employee who thinks aggression is entertainment. My daughters became visibly uncomfortable with this tense climate and affected our meal. It is a hostile Mood disguised as ‘thematic’. If you want to eat under attack, go ahead. For us, it was just embarrassment and frustration.

They were nasty.. but I liked it

By Lou M |

Schmullen is awesome… I was appropriately humiliated…. As I should have been.. food is awesome…get the chilli and add it to the Chicago style hot dog.. great cold crisp beer

Fell into this fun place by accident

By JerseyIcecream |

Oddly, after finding ourselves with a 1 hour wait for a table at Lou Malnati’s pizza (which meant 1-1/2 hours til the pizza got to the table), I googled pizza near me and this place came up with nearly 900 reviews and burgers, etc. But NO pizza. We were hungry and it was getting late, so we tried it. Looks like a 1960s soda shop. Food was good. Service was good. The place is such fun!! The wait staff are dressed up in character. The diners are given hats, like a ‘60s soda fountain server. The servers are mock surly. But, I mean totally mock! It’s pretty funny, if you get into the spirit.

Fun experience, don't miss out!

By Kirk D |

Just had the best time at Ed’s. I remember going here as a special treat when I was a child. As an adult it was even better, I also loved experiencing it with the kids. This is “dinner theater” at its finest. Special shout out to our waiter, Schmuelly and waitress, Polly.

Great time!

By Teresa K |

We had a great time and really enjoyed the dancing show! Enjoyed having Baba for our server!!! I loved Ed Debevic’s!!!!!

Terrible sarcastic funny

By Ritchie D |

Great experience

By Knights19 |

It was a fun time from the moment we walked into your restaurant. Our server was so much fun to talk to and he provided a great customer service experience. Your restaurant has a great atmosphere and great food. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to have a good time while eating great food.

Will be back.

By Margaret H |

Dean patty and peachy were amazingly rude. Patty’s RBF was the best. Food was good also. The ymca act/dance was hilarious. We will definitely be back.

Diner with attitude

By ACC519 |

Fun experience. Thanks Axel. The dancing was a nice surprise ... I was not expecting the show. Seems like a family friendly place.

It was good and I think all of you guys would love it and if y come on Sunday you might get Jane she was the best fyi!!

By Kalel R |

Jane was funny mean and she just made us laugh everyone was just laughing when she said stuff she started a dance on the thing and than she made jokes

By Tammy B |

Johnny Benchwarmer was a great server. The food was hot. Johnny is a talented guy. Service was fast. He refilled our drinks and had a great sense of humor. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

Very entertaining experience

By Adam S |

Gingee is the best! Amazing service! We had the best time and food is actually great! Can’t wait to come back soon. Don’t come here without a sense of humor.

Great experience

By Tappinara |

Ryder was rude and obnoxious and we loved it! He was great! The food was awesome and his dancing was sexy as hell!! The DJ and the waitresses were bloody brilliant too. We will be back.

A complete surprise - even though I'd been there

By procyclist |

Years and years ago, when Ed Debevics was at Ontario and Wells, I went there with my parents. This was so long ago that WLS had a live oldies show that did a remote broadcast from there every Saturday night. I remember thinking the waitstaff was somewhat humorous. It was a novelty having them treat the patrons rudely and then out of nowhere jump up on the counter with their fellow waiters and waitresses and sing. Then they closed. I was aware they'd reopened, but thought 'eh...that has to be a stale gimmick now in 2025'. So going here wasn't my idea, but we went for breakfast. To begin - the food is great. Real diner food. But the staff! Wow! I'd like a 'behind the scenes' to see how they interview, train, etc. their waiters and waitresses. You can't train wittiness, and it can't be scripted. Sure, there are probably some standard lines, but the execution is perfect. I would guess these are acting students or performers at Second City or some such place. I'm still laughing at the banter - it was excellent. Do yourself a favor and hit this place up - at any age, with any company. Even if you're like me and think it won't be *that* funny - trust me - it is!

Axel Danger thoroughly entertaining!

By Kim C |

Axel Danger very engaging, his service comes with lots of entertainment sarcasm & laughs. Highly recommend visiting if you're in Chicago !!

Amazing

By DarlingT71 |

Different breakfast experience

By tripecab |

We were having breakfast here in November 2023. It is a retro restaurant in which the waiters have that "edge" touch that is very fun, really. We had avocado toast with egg, some chocolate pancakes with sausage, a juice and coffee for $50

By Curious23991315478 |

The waiter that we had was so funny and rude made my experience very fun and the dance as the best part and I loved the food and if you go there ask for janny

Terrible Experience

By Claudio Q |

The old school theme of this place is cute but part of the theme here is also that staff is rude to you and you’re supposed to take it. It’s overwhelming. Our server made my son cry! He’s 4! Who wants to deal with that during a meal?! It made us very uncomfortable. Other servers were screaming at their guests frequently as well. It was obnoxious. The food is not that good for all of this. We could’ve been mean back to the server but who wants to do that to someone serving your food. It was a terrible experience. Do not recommend at all especially not if you have kids. I rather go somewhere where the theme is not to make the guest feel dumb.

Dont miss out on this place if you’re in Chicago

By Hend Y |

Come here if you want to live a typical American experience. The staff are very funny, they keep insulting you in the funniest way leaving you speechless and unable to reply.. the food is really good, service is very fast. Recommended ❤️🇺🇸

Garbage can ROCKS!

By HEATHER L |

Had a great time! My 12 year old niece and son loved the experience! My son kept giving it right back to garbage can. Guest participation with the dancing and singing was awesome!

Barbie was great

By Stephanie S |

Barbie was a wonderful server! Made it a great time for my whole family. Left very satisfied. 100% amazing Barbie was great!!!!!!!!!

Fun experience

By Sarah G |

We stumbled on this place in route to the Ice Cream Museum. It’s schtick is retro atmosphere where they treat you badly (in a funny way). If you have thin skin- don’t come here. We enjoyed the banter and giving as well as we were getting. We had the American and Hippee skillets. Both were good. Generous helping of hashbrowns as the base with the goodies on top laced together with a good amount of cheese. The biscuit was also tasty (they toast it). Service was expeditious and we had some good laughs.

It was amazing

By Adrian W |

This was my first time coming here. I was confused in the beginning but my family told me what the atmosphere theme was. The food was absolutely 10000/10. Our waiter SUGARFOOT WAS AMAZING. Very Rude, Disrespectful and A Modest Mess!!! 😂😂 I’ll be back.

Fun!

By Dermot B |

Great fun and great location! Our server Stanley was awesome, attentive and just mean enough! 5 stars! I would highly recommend

Bueno

By Claire M |

Johnny Benchwarmer was our server and he was a blast. So funny yet good service at the same time. Love me some Ed Debevic’s

Such a fun time, coming her for decades!

By RiaBDogMama |

I love this place, so much fun and I have been coming since I was 13 years old, and now I am more than 3x times that age. The concept is 50's/60's diner with fun fun fun atmosphere. Servers and staff are supposed to be playfully rude and silly acting, in character. On this visit our server was named Scottie, and he was awesome! Incredibly fun but also provided excellent service. Food is good, it is diner food so don't expect gourmet. The best part was that my fiancé LOVES the soda "Green River" which is indigenous to Chicago and hard to find, especially from the fountain. They have it here and that was the main reason I introduced my fiancé to this place on his first visit to Chicago. When out server heard this, he brought a whole pitcher full of Green River soda, which was awesome. I highly recommend for families, and kids parties, or anyone looking for some different type of atmosphere while in the downtown area.

So fun!

By KathRun34 |

What an experience! Our family loved it. Our server Jane was awesome, keeping us laughing with her “rudeness!” The kids couldn’t get enough of her. Plus the food was great! Gotta go to Ed’s when you’re in Chicago’

Tons of fun and good food.

By PattyPfromtheD |

Lunch, dinner and dessert. Burgers are delicious. Lots of laughs with Scout and Johnny Benchwarmer. Will definitely be back.

Back to the 50's at Ed's with Barbie

By PaulVanHalteren |

I was introduced to Ed diner when I arrived in Chicago many years ago. Tonight was my time to introduce a visitor from Korea to the "new" Ed. Excellent burgers (Atomic Burger for me) and shakes, the expected ambiance, a busy Wednesday. Our waitress "Barbie" was engaging, great for her part as stand up comedian without exaggeration, yet funny...

Intentionally mean serving staff, great singing and dancing, great atmosphere.

Jonny B is a class act. We came with the whole family, kids aged from 4 - 13. The older kids loved the experience. The young ones took a bit of time to get into the swing, but they ended up loving their time here too.

Had a good time

By Amanda Chaffer |

Really enjoyed how rude our waiter was. I did ask for a side of eggs but never got them. The food was pretty good, though. Would recommend going here.

Good

By Ellie Wilk |

It’s a fun vibrant place to eat. My husband and I went got breakfast and we enjoyed our time. I had the avocado toast, my husband had the early bird. We both loved our food.

A touristy spot with many better, if different options, nearby.

By Traveling Owl |

Visited the new location 35 years after the first date with my wife at the original River North location. New spot maintains some of uniqueness that the original did, but in our opinion overemphasizes the "rush you in-an-out servers with attitudes". Understand, this is part of the schtick, but it can be overdone. Food quality is good, but you will be paying for the location and the experience as much as the food.

Amazing

By Layla K |

Super fun and the servers are incredibly funny if your looking for a good laugh definitely the place to be. Definitely recommend

Fun place for families! Very engaging and entertaining. Jane was our server and kept us all on our toes. Loved her idea to mix the green river and lemonade to make a “ wicked drink”.

Go! With a thick skin

By Annamichelleks |

So much fun! Axel Danger was our server and was hilariously insulting. The food wasn’t bad either. Go but not for the thin skinned! Food may be thrown or stolen from your plate!!

Lots of laughs!

By Melissa T |

We came with friends and small children. It was a blast! Dancing, banter, fun hats and more! Come with a sense of humor! Our server was “Axel Danger” and he was so fun!

Peachy Keen

By Heather S |

It was our daughter’s 16th bday, and this was a perfect spot to eat. Great job Peachy! She made our visit memorable. Food and a show.

Kids had fun and staff made the experience!

By CKLB |

The food was ok but really this place is about the experience. The goal of the staff is to be rude and you have to realize not to take it personally. The kids loved it and had a great time. We would go back

Great food and fun atmosphere

By pizzaguy44 |

Peachy our server was awesome, food is always excellent. We have eaten here 4 times and never had a bad experience. Great place to bring the family.

Axle is an amazing server!! Request him and he will give you the best dining experience! The cheese fries are good too!!!

A Chicago must!

By mozbphotography |

Seriously if you are coming to Chicago come and try this out. Good food and good fun in a groovy old school diner style. Clammy is funny as! Just hung it on every customer as they came in and didn’t let up until they left. All sass and really funny with it!

Don't go if you Can't Take a Joke!

By Nancy W |

What a fun diner. We passed this place a couple times while out and about and the sign on the side window caught our attention - maybe because it was the entire length & width of the window pane - it said 'Warning: This establishment is NOT recommend for those who CAN'T TAKE A JOKE!'. So, we finally went there for breakfast our last day in Chicago. We walked in and the host was seating someone so while standing there waiting, a waiter came by and said something to the affect of just wait there, you aren't important enough to take right back and walked away. That was the 'worst' thing said, the other stuff was abrupt but nothing off color or horrible. But we had fun going back and forth with our server. The service was a little slow, so don't go if you are in a hurry. We are from Jersey so we know diner food and this was good diner food. The price was pretty on track with other places. They even gave us hats to wear! A fun experience.

Don't miss this place!

By Joyce S |

OMG - where to start with this place??? Its FABULOUS (if you like sarcasm, if you don't, stay away!!) ... Kitty was our server and she was fantastic. We got to see them dance, but really you're here for the witty backchat etc. The food is typical 50s style diner, which was good. I'd totally recommend you make this a must do stop. We were here for dinner and it was really busy, so remember and book in advance !

Birthday Bash!

By Sarah E |

On November 20, 2025, for my daughter’s 8th birthday, we took a trip to Chicago. We had previously visited the city and were looking for a new restaurant to dine at. We sure hit the jackpot by picking Ed Debevic’s. It was a phenomenal experience because of Topanga! She was beyond incredible—quick-witted, hilarious, and completely nailed the classic Ed Debevic’s sass. She was personable and incredibly attentive to my daughter (a sassy redhead herself) but yet kept the service flawless! Topanga, hands down, made the experience what it was intended to be. The jokes, the attitude, the perfectly timed comebacks—everything was spot on. It felt like dinner and a show. In true customer fashion, our table asked for napkins. Upon Topanga’s return, she tossed the whole stack of napkins at my significant other, which sent us all into a roar of belly laughs. She made my daughter’s weekend unforgettable! She catered to the fact that it was her birthday and even brought a special sweet treat! The only part of our Chicago trip she talks about is eating lunch at Ed Debevic’s. We hope upon our return next year to visit that Topanga is still working her magic.  It’s rare to find someone who elevates the entire dining experience- this was one of those times! We’ll be talking about this visit for a long time! I hope everyone can experience Topanga in this setting because she truly enjoys her job and is very good at it!   Topanga, sorry it took me so long to write this! :)

Crazy place

By Benedikt1977 |

This is a CRAZY place, and our kids LOVED it!! The waiters are putting on a show being intentionally cheeky. The food is amazing, their own Lager the perfect beverage to go with the juicy burger or sandwich.

Nothing but fun with Miss Kitty

By Coastal818888 |

Miss Kitty was AWESOME!!! So fun for kids and adults alike. Make sure you Eat at Ed’s when in Chicago!!! Food was delicious from the chili to the foot long hot dog… and of course the milkshakes!

The food was enough, very tasty and perfectly prepared. The ambience is retro diner style throughout, very well done and absolutely clean. Loved it! The staff did an absolute great and authentic job. The atmosphere was amazing. We had a lot of fun. All guests got their money's worth. Great shoutout to Dad ;) Highly recommended experience

Fun restaurant

By Megan W |

I love it here you all are so funny this is the best restaurant that is all I need to say lol✌🏻😂. Sooooo good and yummyyyyy

Not for the feint hearted, but really a lot of fun if you are in the mood for jokes!

By Steve K |

Random find honestly, but such a fun time. Bring the right attitude. As the sign says, if you are easily offended I wouldn’t go. But if you like some comedy and a good time by all means enjoy. The commitment to the roles is hilarious. You can tell they really want everyone to have a good time in there and just be light hearted about the whole thing. Very unique experience. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to just pick some fun on each other. Food was good. Milkshakes are done the classic way and taste delicious.

Must do in Chicago

By Adscho78 |

Everything you wouldn’t expect but need to experience!! And the food is really good too! Very close to the Mag Mile. 👍🏻

Fishfood is amazing

By Else G |

We brought our girlscout troop here for dinner and fishfood was amazing!! He had our girls laughing the ENTIRE time!!!!

Good food and fun service

By stevebintley |

This is a novelty and fun restaurant, geared around rude staff and decor to suit, but fortunately the quality of food wasn’t a let down and for that alone I’d recommend. On a weekday morning it was pretty quiet so easy to secure one of the spacious window booths with no reservation. The menu is huge with a good variety of dishes to suit all appetites and times of the day. The service was attentive and fast, with the paper hats being given out a fun touch. Portion sizes were good and represented good value, without being overbearing for breakfast. The breakfast sandwich was very delicious, and the recommendation to have it on brioche rather than the other available options was spot on. Presentation of all the dishes was good too. Overall it was a unique and enjoyable breakfast in a central location and I’ll definitely be returning next time I’m in the city; recommended!

Perfectly rude

By Quest169339 |

Evita was awesomely rude with amazing service.. The perfect art of dry back handed compliments and deadpan comments, was amazing. Food was great, service was excellent and rude : )

No Airconditioning!!! Enough said

By wendib728 |

The air conditioning in the restaurant was not working. It was miserably hot. It was not enjoyable. The music was playing too loud to even hear what the waiters and waitresses were saying. The waiter was completely miserable and dripping sweat. I love this place usually but make sure the air conditioning is working before you go. They also didn’t have the hats which is such a part of their experience. When we asked the manager, she said they were out of them but they were backordered.Zero fun

Fun vibes,really great place

By TouringTourist |

Schmuck was great, funny. Have a good time anytime I come. Had breakfast, it's huge couldn't eat half. Food is food, service is poor and unfriendly 10/10.

Great Breakfast Spot

By Mark |

Stumbled across this place on our first morning in Chicago; we were served/insulted by Gingie and both the service and food was excellent.

Fun and American!

By Frederic B |

Perfect restaurant to start our stay in Chicago. The food is good, but the highlight is the atmosphere, which is extremely fun! Johnny was a host full of energy and a very communicative good mood. We had a great time!

Dinner in a typical American school!

By emma |

We came across it by chance and we don't regret being there. The atmosphere of the dinner and fun and retro, the staff plays the game of being cheeky and it is very entertaining and second degree! The food is good and simple, typical of what can be found in a dinner.

Really good burger.

By Annastacia2012 |

Arrived in Chicago late, ended up walking past here and decided to go in. I was a bit apprehensive about the ‘Karen’ vibe but we decided to go in. The server wasn’t too harsh on us. I had a burger and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would deffo recommend a burger here.

Not worth it

By Jerry P |

Food is marginal. Went on a Monday evening -- only about half a dozen tables in use. Location is great - just a half a block off of Michigan Ave.

Great family fun

By Shannon C |

This was a great experience for my family of three tweens & three adults. Axel was hilarious without devolving into mean spiritedness. Our family really enjoyed it. Thanks from Sippy Cup, Bed Wetter, Doc & Old Man.
