My Dads favorite place bring family to eat!

By Mario F |

We have leave in Germany for years now, so when we visit our parents here in Miami we love to come eat at El Chalan, been coming here ever seance a was a teenager I'm 38 now. Seviche is second to none, arroz con marisco is always one of my favorite. This place is a must if you are in the area.

Really good homemade Peruvian food

By Aletxas |

Although it's well located, it's not a fancy place but highly recommended because they offer really good homemade Peruvian food. And it's so good that is full of people all the time (just so you know). The size of dishes is huge, so if you're not starving or you want to try one of their desserts, keep this in mind. Besides, is a heavy kind of meal, though super tasteful. The only problem I found wad that they are a bit slow serving. Everything in the menu is good, but I especially recommend Ceviche because I am a fan of it.

Delicious Peruvian food

By galtraveller22011 |

El Chalan is located in a strip mall off Bird Rd and 79th Ave. Parking is ample(although the place is packed most of the time). The restaurant has a family style cafeteria type atmosphere. Nice background music. The place was already crowded at around 5pm on a Friday, but seating capacity is pretty large. We ordered the Ceviche Pescado ( Ceviche is a signature Peruvian dish)- absolutely delicious!,Lomo Saltado-really tender and tasty.,Chicharron Pescado-battered fried fish that tastes so fresh and delicious.,Chauffa (Fried Rice, we ordered the one with everything)- A variation of the Chinese fried rice, Peruvian style, quite yummy. The portions are really large, so we had lots of leftovers since we wanted to try everything. Then of course the Desserts-Quatro leches cake is one of thr vest I have had, and the flan is just right.the service was good, our waitress spoke mostly Spanish but we had no problems communicating with her.

A favourite while in South Beach Miami

By Ismael R |

Unpretentious, great service and best, AMAZING PERUVIAN FOOD IN MORE THAN GENEROUS SERVINGS. Their staff is so friendly and helpful that you are sure to leave fully satisfied.

Locals favorite

By sobeyummm |

I've passed by the South Beach El Chalan hundreds of times until friends convinced me to go in. The interior is clean and cute, but most importantly, the food is very good. I had fish "el chalan" which was excellent. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the mushroom sauce quite delicious. And it is affordable (something hard to find in South Beach).

Delicious to say the least

My family & I have eaten at El Chalán Restaurant numerous times over the years. Never dissapointed. Food delicious, nice atmosphere, great service & reasonable prices.

Best Peruvian Cuisine

By Roberto C |

The best Peruvian Cuisine in Miami, we are recommend the Miami Beach one to on Washington and 16, five star restaurant

Friendly place with a nice relaxed style.

By larserikl_12 |

Ceviche Alcalan was a nice mice mix to start with. One portion easily served two. Nice spicy taste - we selected the medium spicy one - a good choice. El lomo saltado was a nice continuation - also large enough to share. Nice wine suggestion to match both dishes! We will be back!

Traditional Peruvian Fare

By PhilMujica |

Very traditional delicious Peruvian food. Seafood is all fresh. Love the food here, but it's lacks atmosphere, ambience, etc....but you come here for their food. Very affordable! We come here at least twice a year for 20+ years. Consistently Good!

A very pleasant experience

I think this is a very nice please to visit with friends. Always fresh fish and ceviche. They have friendly and professional staff. I recommend it!!!!

The Best Peruvian in all of Miami

By MKTTKM |

The food is excellent. Go to the Bird Rd location. I don't bother going to the one in Miami Beach. Miami has a lot of different Peruvian restaurants but this is the best..... It's far but worth the drive. It's a family style restaurant-there are other fancy Peruvian restaurants around the city but they don't compare!!!! We always start off with one of the ceviches as an appetizer. The chorros a la chalaca is scrumptious. They are steamed mussels that have been chilled and garnished with tomatoes, lime etc. We shared a grilled seafood platter. Delicious. If you're new to Peruvian food try the papa a la huanciain as an appetizer..... In general, Peruvian cuisine is very creative with a lot of seafood, soups and grilled meats.... If you're into seafood you'll love it. I had a delicious dessert- I can't remember the name but it was meringue with a sweet sauce on top. I loved it. What was different about it is that the meringue was not sweet- no sugar was in it... there was only sugar in the sauce. The owner or manager came by and thanked us as we left..... Don't wait go!!!! P.S. there are also pasta, beef and chicken dishes if seafood isn't your thing.

Outstanding Peruvian Cuisine!

By ivonnem638 |

Truly delicious peruvian food. The Mixed Chaufa was wonderful. Next time we'll try the seafood Chaufa. Not available the day we went. We went with 12 people and they quickly accommodated us. The place was packed on a weekday the entire time we were there. Marleni did a fantastic job taking care of our huge table. If you love seafood, I recommend the seafood parrillada. We'll be back for sure. If you are in Westchester, stop by El Chalan. You'll be delighted. Small restaurant, fantastic food.

If you want to taste good peruvian food in Miami, this is a very good choise. I like the ceviche mixed but my favorite dish is the soup Chupe de Camarones 🍤. Another famous dish there is the Pescado a lo Macho.

excellent

By xcreationsx |

Very good peruvian food located in south beach. If you have never tried "anticucho de corazon" its a must. their service was very good and the prices are reasonable.

Amazingly mediocre ceviche

By Maskotas |

I have been to El Chalan at least a half-dozen times over the last two years. I lived in Lima for 5 years and remain a big fan of Peruvian food so it pains me to write this review. Last weekend I ordered a mixed ceviche at El Chalan and received a greenish, soggy mishmash unlike any other ceviche I had ever seen. I was very hungry and ate it but it was the only ceviche I ever met that I did not like---about a 2 on a ten-point scale. El Chalan used to be one of my three Peruvian go-to restaurants in Miami but that ceviche bumped it off the list. When a Peruvian restaurant cannot make ceviche, you lose faith.

Don't miss or don't GO by Serge

BAck in Miami , we were looking for a peruvian restaurant and following a friend advise we went to EL Chalan in Miami Beach. It was 8:30 PM and we were lucky to sit at no time. The spanglish speaking owner/receptionist welcomed style us. It is a very friendly family stile restaurant, no white table cloths , no fancy silverware , The waitress couldn't be more cheerful . The menu (Chinese style with pictures on one side and full description of ingredients of each dish was very comprehensive and obviously plastic laminated to last forever , they probably wash them on the dish washer.........) I will suggest to order a peruvian beer ( very light and served cold with a ICY glass ans sit for a while watching the Dish parade coming from the Kitchen to the tables. That is a killing.......you will not what to order seeing the dish smelling the perfumes of every plate going through the restaurant. DEFINETELY if you are in a Peruvian restaurant you are looking to have SEAFOOD and El chalan have them all ( I have seen a few chicken and beef dishes on the menu ....BAHHHH forget them ) The PARGO , the octupus, and the shrimp will make you happy. We started with the MIX CEVICHE and there was by itself a culinary lesson , the red onion rings they were not minced therefore the flavor was there on the fish but you stomach would not be attacked by the raw onin acids. The lemon quantity and the freshness of the seafood matched perfectly giving the right balance Shrimp , Octupus and Fish were all tender and absorbed perfectly the condiments . ( I promissed I 've seen them moving .........that fresh they were) It took only a couple of beers and....WHERE IS THE CEVICHE????gone gone gone Entrees we had rice and seafood, fried Pargo and PArgo el chalan , and since we were on a family restaurant forks form each one of us crossed the table taking small portions to each other mouth followed by all HUMM UAUUS AND OH MY GOOOOD!!! as a sound track to support the event. The quantity of food could be shared and the prices are very reasonable We have a cooked milk flan as dessert since my wife is a pastry chef ,,,,,,and every restaurant that we go she has to check it out ( you really don't need to try) Expresso is just ok could be much better and the cleanliness of the men restroom needs more attention. IT IS A MUST AND WE MUST RETURN

great recommendation from our cab driver

By pamelap994 |

We have been coming to South Beach for years and never ventured into the Washington Street restaurant. Our cab driver recommended trying this peruvian restaurant and he was right. This is a very large menu and it can be a bit confusing and overwhelming making choices but our server helped us pick a chicken and seafood dish. Both were very fresh and delicious. All of the people working in the restaurant were very friendly and service was great.

One of the best places at affordable prices in Miami Beach

By Floresmeyer |

Great cebiche, steak, papa a la huancaina, french fries, etc. Everything is fresh and the prices are great!!!

I hate to review this place its already packed.... for a reason

By Timothy R |

We went there as a birthday celebration. The service and food was outstanding. We found the ceviches very good and the aji a gallina y salteado were both excellent. Very crisp service, no dragging on here. Will go back for sure

Amazing peruvian food

By Lilianne R |

This is, by far, the best peruvian restaurant I've been in Miami. Delicious food and great staff, and if that's not enough, also great prices. We loved it and are definitely going back. Totally recommend it!

Great choice

We went to celebrate an anniversary and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and the service was excellent!

My favorite peruvian restaurant!

By esmeralda2012016 |

I come to this restaurant at least twice a month, for lunch. I have come sometimes alone, or with friends. I have always been very satisfied with the excellent food. You just cannot go wrong, no matter what you order. Prices are moderate and the service is very good. I plan to continue coming...

Good for ceviche

By Wolfgangamadeusmarco |

I've been to this place before and had some good fish dishes... the other night we went to this place... (which has to be one of the oldest Peruvian restaurants in Miami)... and I had Tallarines Verdes con Bistec Apanado... You may ask yourself how come this is Peruvian food and looks like a Spaguetti al Pesto and Cotoletta alla milanese... well it is actually a Peruvian version of this anyway... and the reason is that the Majority of Peruvians of Italian descent are from the Liguria (Genoa) region... and like many of you know the Pesto is from that area... so they created their own pesto with what ingredients they had in Peru.... The Bistec Apanado also called milanesa has the same origin of the Cotoletta only that Peruvians use "Bistec" instead than Veal... You ask Bistec?... yes.... comes from Beef Steak... like Fútbol comes from Football. Anyway... it wasn't that good and I expected... the sauce on the Peruvian Pesto spaghetti (tallarines verdes) was like water down an lack some taste.

One of the first popular Peruvian restaurants, and still good!

By ARodriguezP |

Had first tried "El Chalan" quite a few years ago as it was one of the first well known Peruvian restaurants in Miami,so I was almost expecting the offerings to be not as good, maybe the now rampant competition had gotten the better of them,it happens often when restaurants rest on their laurels. I was glad to be proven wrong! The food was just as good as I remember it to have been,my ceviche mixto could have had more shrimp but the flavor was fresh and authentic and my son's jalea mixta was abundant and not overly breaded, the green aji sauce is addictive. The variety of dishes on the menu is quite representative of Peru's cuisine which is mostly a fusion of the original indigenous,Spanish, and Asian influences, with other European contributions as well,it has become one of the world's most popular cuisines and "El Chalan" is still a good place to sample it!

Always incredible, always

By Noel M |

Always incredible, always leaves you speechless how great the food is. It’s still a Art Peruvian cuisine definitely is the top 5. Like El Chalan I been coming here since 94 never disappoints. The menu is great not a bad dish in the house. Food portions big, service good, restaurant clean friendly, easy to order in or out. Great job Chalan

Great authentic Peruvian food

By Butterfly12321 |

Great food, excellent service, very tasty at a fair rate. Highly recommended. Go early because many customers enjoy dinner there.

GOING BACK TODAY!

By keywordNATT |

Very busy restaurant. I have gone twice in the past week and am going back today! The first time I went, I was with my best friend and we both had Lomo Saltado. We should have shared because their portions are ENORMOUS! Rice was cooked to perfection. Peppers and Onions were perfectly grilled and tender, french fries were crispy and had absorbed all the juices. and the meat... AAAHHHHHH! so tender and amazing. Last night I had mixed Ceviche, I did not regret it one bit! so refreshing and delicious. the onions did not affect the taste at all. the atmosphere was nice, there was a DisneyExplore video on about the oceans wildlife and cool sea creatures which made the wait go unnoticed. I am in love with this place. MUST CHECK IT OUT!

Great Peruvian food at south beach

Excellent food, very moderately priced and the service was great - they truly cared that we enjoyed our meal

The Saltiest Fish Soup on Earth

By Alejandro B |

Fish soup the SALTIEST ON PLANET EARTH. Be very careful Chalan-loving customers (only my comment is with the soup) .. the taste of fish does not come due to the amount of salt , I think as a constructive criticism that the cook or chef should try the dishes first but in this case the soup before offering it to customers , I am not to leave bad comments being a repeat customer of l Chalan but it is unacceptable to deliver my soup with the amount of salt which contained , I literally had to throw it .. I think I could not miss that lack, because the fact of passing up that lack and detail , surely they will continue to do it .. and would not improve the quality and detail in the Fish Soup , someone has to take action in the lack of control of the dishes , Miami Beach resident and regular client of the Chalan.

Yummy food

By albertonorris |

Jalea mista and ceviche with a cold cusquena are mandatory at this cozy restaurant. If you like Peruvian food for an affordable price you should visit El Chalan !!! Salud !!

Excellent Peruvian Seafood

By Nardiesally |

This is a low-key place with outstanding and authentic Peruvian food. Great sea food. Very large portions. This is not a fine dinning, classy type of place. However, it is full of locals which should tell you what you need to know about it. Well worth a try.

Great Peruvian Food!

Xx

By PeruUSA |

We visited on December 26 2019, order several diferentes plates, ceviche, lomo saltado, arroz Chaufa mariscos, tallarín saltado, vegetales, papá a la huacayina yucas etc. With sodas, water,.. Drinks was served with the food after long wait! Vegetable plate never arrived, at the end we ask the waiter about the vegetables and not to charge since never arrived. She didn’t apologized, just after awhile said “we out of vegetables”!!! My Vegetarian son was w out dinner!! Ceviche, lomo and arroz saltado was good, the rest was “ok” but service was a disaster, we had to ask for drink to another waiter who put bad face and said “I will tell your waiter”.. Realized our waiter was the hostess too!! The place is small for the public entering there. Bath wasn’t in good clean matter!! Location is good Planning Not to comeback to this place

Great Peruvian Food - Love the Ceviche

By CARLOS |

We have eaten at El Chalan several times and we try to eat there every time we are in the area, it is by far the best Peruvian in the area. The Ceviche is great, good portions and good price. We also enjoy the Lomo Saltado. If you are looking for great Peruvian food this is the place to go. This is not a romantic or fancy place, it could be improved, but the food is great. The restaurant is located just one block from Lincoln Rd.

First a Peruvian meal, will NOT be my last!

By RWandfamily |

I have to confess that I was not really sure what to expect when I was informed we were eating at a Peruvian restaurant. However, I was bowled over by the experience. Atmosphere was great, service excellent - but the food, oh boy, the food was tremendous! Wish they would open one near me!

near perfect Peruvian

By Prometheuss |

with excellent ceviche and a large menu of Peruvian favorites in a pleasant family style environment. we're pretty picky given our Peruvian roots but this was great.

Forget the ambiance,go for the food

By 10Tito |

We were there last Friday evening, had the ceviches (fish and the mixed) and we followed with the parihuela de pescado. The food was very fresh and well prepared and seasoned (we ask for spicy and it came in perfectly done). The service is not polished but helpful and attentive. Considering the portions were large and the prices very reasonable we'll return soon.

Excellent Peruvian Food!

By Magda F |

Love eating here, when ever I come to visit my family. My sister lives only about 3 minutes from this restaurant and eats here everyday for lunch. So when I visit, I come with her. They have delicious Peruvian food, excellent service and good prices. Its a pretty noisy place and not so big, but its worth the visit!

Staff very friendly . food is very good and for a very good price. to improve: to review more regularly the cleanness of the restrooms

Terrible experience

By CAngelita2 |

Food doesn't have taste. We order ceviche and have spoiled fish. first time there and for sure the last one, don't waste your time, you can find better options for Peruvian food around.

Excellent food

By Nmb |

Attentive service , good food and great amounts !!! We shared the arroz con mariscos and still took some home . Very good espresso too. It is in a shopping center where unfortunately parking is a little tight.

Birthday celebration

By galdosr |

The seafood in this Peruvivian cuisine restaurant is extraordinarily fresh and delicious. We have been long time customers of this restaurant and it has never disappointed any of us. We go on special occasions, and then some!

a taste of peru

By Rocky3245 |

El Chalan has very good food, service and price. The ambiance is typical Peruvian with its typical music and an endless number of traditional plates. Its def a family restaurant but at night it can be for a romantic dinner even though the lighting does not scream romantic since their lighting is bright.

Serendipitous Discovery

By Nikki F |

We had asked at our hotel for a recommendation for a restaurant that could cater for a no-spice eater and this was their response. Good suggestion! We were advised to book so asked for a table at 6.30; when we arrived a little early, the restaurant was busy but not full, but by the time we left, there was a line forming out the door. After explaining to the waitress that I couldn't eat anything peppered or spicy, she checked that our choices from the illustrated menu would be ok for me. An excellent ceviche later, we shared a main course that was a combination of two menu items as our waitress had arranged for us to have the carb/veg from one with the meat from another, since we couldn't decide which one to have. For dessert we tried a meringue flavoured with port which was delicious but even sharing it, we were unable to finish it. Yes, the portions are typically North American in size but we were assured a few days later by some Peruvians we had met that the food itself is very typical of Peru. Best meal we had in the South Beach area in a three day period but not the most expensive.

Sunday dinner

By Alonso Q |

The food is amaizing, but the staff like the bassboys are very unfriendly,is like the tired to work there,OF COURSE THEY ARE,BUT the food like i say before is great, and not expensive at all.

The place was packed so we knew it would be good!

By rovingcarole |

A good rule to follow when you're not sure where to go! After looking at the posted menu with exotic looking and sounding dishes we ventured into athe place. While its certainly not fancy, it's clean and modern, and the star is the food, as it should be. The wait staff is friendly and ready to explain the menu. Since it was late for me for dinner I opted for seafood ceviche, a nice pile of citrus marinated octopus, shrimp and calamari atop some lettuce leaves, surrounded by little piles ofwhite Peruvian corn, and roasted crunchy corn. A sweet potato also adorned the plate. The dish went fast as my companions had tastes aplenty. My husband had the soup of the day, on Friday a chicken stew. A flavorful broth, also consumed by committee. The spicy shrimp in sauce was the loser of the trio. It was fine, but not as spectacular as the ceviche. No dessert because it was late, but we were not disappointed. The price was right, the food great, the service fine.

The Peruvian Restaurant in the Westchester are - - - THE BEST - - -

By Juan M |

Please notice ONLY 1 BAD REVIEW about this REAL GOOD AND OUTSTANDING Restaurant....Do not know to which Peruvian Restaurant that person or family went to...But I can guarantee and tell you that it WAS NOT El Chalan Restaurant in the Westchester Area.....Excellent food...Tremendous Service....and Perfect Atmosphere. Try it ....and you'll agree with my statement. thanks, JM

Friendly interesting restaurant

By Paula R |

I eat at this restaurant every visit to South Beach. It is not fancy and is filled with locals. You can hear many accents from around the world. It is a Peruvian restaurant with different things on the menu. They have pictures and English under the Peruvian dishes to order. They seem to always be busy because it is not expensive for that area. They have wine and beer and a large menu of interesting food.I recommend this restaurant for something different. This place is on Washington Ave .

Disappointed

By Trip23494327562 |

I have been dining at Chalan Restaurant for many years ! But suddenly food has changed … We ordered Arroz c/ Marisco ( seafood rice ) and we noticed it did not any seafood ; a few pieces of shrimp , calamari and even that was scarce and the dish had NO flavor ! We also ordered Lomo Salteando ( Satued Steak ) and it arrived with a pile of fries underneath and 4-5 small pieces to make the dish seem voluminous- this dish had NO flavor and no sauce which is what makes the savory dish ! The fish ceviche was ok - at best ! To the Chalan administration I don’t know if you’ve sold your restaurant or simply changed your chef 👨🏼‍🍳- please bring back your old chef or hire a Chef that knows what Peruvian culinary is ; if not your restaurant will definitely loose patrons !

The Ceviche

By LAM B |

Well what can I say the ceviche is to die for , and in south beach Miami with the price they charge this is the place , the service is very good .Thank you Luis and the staff for a wonderful dinners

Delicious Peruvian food!

By Dahrmat |

Very good food & excellent service for both restaurants, the one on Bird Rd and the one at South Beach. The food is awesome, the wait staff is very courteous, the restaurant is always packed w/customers. I always go there at least, once a month!

Peruvian cuisine

By Reinaldo G |

For people who like sea food I recommend this Peruvian restaurant. The food is very good, reasonable prices and good service. They have a website but do not trust the prices that are there because they are not updated.

Great!

By FiomKD |

If you come to Miami and want some really good Peruvian food! Come here always packed with people and I can see why it's amazing and the plate servings are huge!

Authentic Peruvian Food

By Matt SouthFL |

I've been there more than once as I'm always very satisfied about this place. Portions are very large and staff is quick & professional. There's a wide array of choices, including seafood and meats, and a great combo of green fettuccini with steak that I really recommend. Prices are very affordable for the quality/quantity you get...!

Long overdue review, delicious!

By SandraD75 |

Not a lot of people know about this place, but a friend told us about it and we decided to give it a try since we love Peruvian food. Boy were we pleased! The restaurant is super duper casual, don't let the looks fool ya, the food is delicious! You can't beat the prices, the amount they serve is ridiculously big, service is good too. We've eaten here several times and always come out pleased!

Great Peruvian food!!

By Michael "Mickey" Alemany |

Been here a few times with the wife and kids, and the food has always been excellent. this place has very typical proven ceviche and other seafood entrées. You can try many of the ceviches but if you like them all I recommend the combo special it pretty much brings everything you could possibly ask for, don't forget to order a side dish of choclo, hope I spelled that right, it's the Peruvian, very large size, corn kernels and it's great.

I loved their flavor. Their service was excellent, and the food was hot and right out of the frying pan!

By Alfred R |

My wife and I went to El Chalan tonight for the first time and I must say, I was truly impressed. A delicious tasting dinner in a family style surrounding. People just kept on coming and coming and coming! We even ordered a take out for tomorrow night! Well priced and we are going back!

Great Peruvian family restaurant

By Jorge D |

Very good Peruvian food in a family restaurant atmosphere. Not elegant but very good food at excellent prices. Our favorites are the Cupe de Camarones which is so big that we share and the chicharon de pescado (an appetizer that is a meal)

A Peruvian classic in Miami

By prybertt |

For about twenty years, i don't miss the opportunity to have lunch here. In my opinion, the quality has not changed over the years and it is my favorite restaurant of peruvian food in Miami. I visited others around here, some with modern styles, fusion, etc., I can't say bad or better than others: Peruvian cuisine is really fantastic; but at the end, i surrender to the classic, the "taste of always", fresh, well done, very tasty and in a family atmosphere. The warm attention of all the staff is very pleasant and friendly. It is true that there is usually a large crowd at peak hours, but this is very common in good restaurants.

Go there hungry

By hectorfrommiami |

Good atmosphere, good service and very good prices for abundant portions of delicious food make this place a must if you like fresh fish and seafood, plus their assortment of meat and other dishes. Just the fried fish, which is an appetizer will easily make it as a meal for 2 people. I will return anytime. Besides the food they have a very tasty Peruvian beer.

Was somewhat disappointed

By Amgad S |

I wasn't looking for a fancy restaurant, but was looking for some good. TripAdvisor reviews have always done me right, but this time it missed the mark. The food was somewhat tasteless and missed good seasoning. The portions were big and the food was ok, but again maybe I had better expectations

Best family Peruvian restaurant

By salartist1 |

What's not to like? They greet you cordially as you walk in, and bring warm crunchy rolls with butter and a green piquant sauce. You get wine, beer or sangria(too sweet for me) within the next five minutes, and as soon as you are ready , out comes the most delicious seviche (their speciality) or a well cooked Peruvian dish. I've come here for years, and it is always good, inexpensive, and friendly, and fills up with families out for a good meal.

Always my must, when visiting Miami

By claudovey |

I always come back for more. My favorite is El Ceviche Mixto. But honestly, everything here is delicious! I'm practically salivating as i'm writing this review!

Update your hours and signs

Wonderful!

A wonderful experience and great food all around. Family did evident here. Such gracious staff! Will return if and when we can.

Excellent

By Margarita V |

The food is excellent the best jalea mixta I have had and the service is great portions are big I try to go at least once a month.

Local, reasonable and delicious!

By kmafla |

I love bringing friends and family here. The food is really good, the prices are reasonable (and on South Beach this is always welcome) and they even an ok terrible wine list. Cerviche is fresh and delicious as is the yummy fish soup (parihuela) which comes in different varieties. Not fancy so don't expect this to be an elegant ambiance - more like a diner - but it is local dining at it's best.

dissappointed

By rene2014123 |

ate there 1 year ago 3 times, went back last week . ordered take out. First , waitress ignored me for almost 10 minutes, second , food took over half hour to be prepared with an empty restaurant and third, food was tasteless and "where was the beef". will not go back.

Interesting Peruvian restaurant in Miami

By Paula R |

A fun restaurant that I would not have eaten ate because it is filled with the locals not tourists.Food was Peruvian. We went with friends who are from the area.My husband and I had a very good chicken dish. The place was clean and the different things on the menu were dishes I had never seen before. They have two places in Miami and we ate at the one on Washington street.Pictures on the menu are helpful about what to order. On my way out the person who seats the people gave me a calendar because he had not seen us before.Very sweet !

Amazing and authentic

By ohletsgo |

So impressed with the food and the people! Delicious and delightful! We love Peruvian and Mr. Araujo is the real deal! Can't wait to go back again!

Disappointed

By Edmund438 |

We enjoy Peruvian food and have two very favorite Peruvian restaurants in the West Kendall area of Miami. El Chalan came highly recommended and we took a group of 8 there for the first time. Six in our group where Latin; 4 Ecuador, I Cuban, l Peru). We were seated quickly and the person who brought water glasses spilled a large glass of water on the table, me and my wife. They rushed to clean it up and in the process, spilled a lot on the floor at my feet. I had to show them the water and ask for it to be mopped up before I fell. He came with a damp mop and wiped it around! I asked him to get a dry mop to absorb the water so I wouldn't slip and fall. He brought some paper towels and tried his best but the floor was never dried. Waitress took our orders and one of our guests didn't get her main course until most of us were finished eating. We ordered the sangria which was horrible and tasted watered down and had canned fruit cocktail fruit in the glasses. The ceviche was very good. My wife and I had Chaufa de Marisco (one of our favorites) and it was bland and tasteless with more rice and less Marisco. Extremely disappointed and will never return. Our favorite restaurants are Aromas Del Peru and La Perla. are .

great Peruvian dishes

By rene2014123 |

tried this restaurant after I went to Tropical Chinese in the same shopping strip and after 20 mnts wait at the table no one came at all, worse Chinese rstrnt I have been to. anyway I have eaten at about 10 different Peruvian restrnts in Miami and by far far this is the best in Peruvian fare for taste , quality, quantity and prices of all the others, mind tough , service was a little slow on my waitresses part, the others were good.

The best Peruvian food ever!

I have traveled to Peru and I must say that this restaurant takes me back there. No one knows fish like Peruvians. If you like seviche and seafood, you will love this place. It is always busy at lunch, many Peruvians living in Miami go there, so you know it is authentic. The food is wonderful and the portions are generous, plan to have a wonderful meal and enjoy the Andean ambience.

Peruvian, Seafood and much more

By DennisR35 |

We had the privilege of spending an evening with the family and some very dear friends of ours. This restaurant is in a strip mall, and it is a small place. But for a Tuesday night it got packed by the end of the night. We tried many dishes, chupe de camaron, marriscada, lomo salteado, all the Peruvian favorites. We were not disappointed all the dishes were delightful, tasty. It was definitely a very good dining experience and this place has nothing to envy any of the other Peruvian restaurants in Miami. My only problem was that it was a fairly small place and when it gets crowded you have people hitting your chairs or you have to move to let them pass. But all in all it was well worth the trouble. I would definitely visit this place again. One dish I recommend to all the Seafood lovers is the mariscada grill. Try it and let us know what you think.

Food and Service is not what it used to be.

By Rudy G |

It used to be one of my favorite Peruvian Restaurant in Miami. Yesterday the experience was totally different, the service very slow, waiting 20 minutes for the appetizer and another 25 minutes for the food. The dishes that we ordered had not flavor, the meat was hard and usually Lomo Saltado comes with sauce it was kind of dry. The Jalea had only 2 small pieces of fried Yuca. The lady serving our table was fine, but we had to call her when needed something. They should pay attention on not having customers waiting a long time for the food and perhaps they changed the chef because the quality of the food was not like before.

Hidden gem. Great food reasonable prices. Really nice people.

By C M |

We went only bc it was 1130am and the restaurant next to it was closed and we were starving. What a pleasant surprise! The shrimp ceviche was outstanding. We had the special for lunch which was fried fish chunks. Came w rice and salad. The waitress was really nice and helped thru everything bc we had never had Peruvian food. Highly recommend!!

Stay Away Tourist trap

By Carlos G |

If you know what Peruvian food tastes like then this restaurant doesn’t even come close. We ordered the Grilled Octopus as appetizer. What we got was grilled potatoes with no more than 1/2 a tentacle spread on it ($24+ 🤔) . We ordered the Seafood grill… what we got was a spread thin of a minimalistic overcooked seafood spread tray. If you go anywhere in Miami and ask the same platter you’ll know the difference. I should’ve heard my friend when he said to stay away from this restaurant…quality went down and prices went up 🤦🏻‍♂️.This is a tourist corner. Sad as it does nothing to promote the great Peruvian food.

very good

i realy like this place , i will go again, it was a good experiance .price is good , food is great.the whole family like it ..

Typical Peruvian Food

By Ahidyn |

When I am in Miami I have to visit this restaurant. The food is veru authentic. Good service. My favorite dishes are papas a la Huaincaina and Ceviche. The service is generally good. The only thing is that is getting pricey that before.

Simply the Best!

By PCorn |

You cannot go wrong at El Chalan. From Appetizers to desserts. Every meal we have had there has been great, and my husband is from Peru! We have been going there for years. Highly recommend you go if you find yourself in Miami. You will not regret it.

Ceviche Ceviche Ceviche

By Anthony R |

My friends came into town and were raving about this place, it is their favorite peruvian food joint. We usually go to Sabor a Peru' but tried El Chalan because of their recommendation. The ceviche was excellent, perfectly cooked and very tasty. El Chalan allows you to order spicy, medium, or non spicy. I also had the Ahi a Gallina which Sabor a Peru does not make, and it was fantastic. It is shredded chicken cooked in a parmesan cheese sauce, delicious. I would recommend, it is very affordable and quality peruvian food on the beach

Lo mejor

Bad management at it best!

By Barbara |

One star for the waitress understanding. Now let's get into details: BAD MANAGEMENT! What a shame for this place to have a bad management. First rule in this business: the costumer is always right! If you want for them to return. First time in this place, Friday night, 11 of us after being in close doors because of the "hurricane". Perfect night to reconnect and have a good time in family. Checked the place on Yelp and went thru the details. Let me clarify I have been on the business for 12 years already. Brought my expensive bottle of Italian wine just to find out the cork fee is as expensive as their house wine, so of course we paid for 2 bottles. Let the waitress know and the manager stoped by the table just to show how rude he was ignoring my concerns. If I was that place's owner I would NOT have this person representing my business at all. By any means I'll be back nor we will have another family reunion in this place. Food was ok but the overall experience wasn't worth over $400 plus $80 on tips. Thank God we have plenty of good choices all around us!

Great place no BS no Shiny Toys but great Food

By Pagan L |

This is a must- Peruvian cousine fans- This is it- Simple, must say spartan, but the essence the food is really great- in fact superb- ample menu- photos of the plates help- big quantities-Don't let the place simplicity dissapoint- service is good, not at the level of Cviche 105 but good.

El Chalan Peruvian Restaurant

By Daniel A |

This is my favorite Peruvian location! There are two locations but i prefer the one at 7971 SW 40th St which is away from south beach. It is more of a lowkey location and relaxed environment. My favorite dish is the Pargo Frito (Whole Fried Snapper). The pargo frito is always seasoned well, fried to perfection and they give you a huge fish and 2 sides. My wife enjoys the Chaufa mixto or the Aguadito Mixto Soup! The Tri Color Fish Ceviche is always ordered as an appetizer. I enjoy the fresh orange juice because the oranges are always sweet and fresh.

Average Peruvian Food

By dinosy |

Some other reviewers have already commented on the problem I had. All the food was bland and lacked seasoning. If you've had peruvian food, you would know that lack of seasoning is not a norm, especially when it comes to salt and spices in ceviche. Since we don't have peruvian restaurants where I live, when we went to Miami I was elated with all the choices. This restuarant seemed humble, but promissing. I ordered all my favorites: ceviche (extra spicyness please!), lomo saltado and aji de gallina. It was very disappointing. All lacked salt and spices--very bland. Too bad, the food looked like it had potential, but the kiss of death was the ceviche which was ordered extra hot(spicy) and was not even spicy! I will give them this, the restrooms were very clean--this is the only reason I gave them a 3 star instead of a 2 star.

We make sure to stop here every time we're in Miami!

By Elizabeth B |

Every time we eat here we are completely satisfied! The food is fantastic! The staff is practicing excellent cleanliness and social distancing. We always say we have no idea how so much amazing food comes out of such a small kitchen!!

Glorified Fonda

By danilom001 |

My son was visiting from abroad and we wanted to go to Dr. Limon, which we had visited before with a very satisfying experience, but Chalan was closer and had good reviews. I cannot regret it more. Our waitress, Judith, was apathetic and disinterested in suggestions or else. The ‘Jalea’ was soggy; the Lomito Salteado was also mushy with overcooked vegetables; the Ceviche was warm and tasted like bottled lemon juice. To top it off, they played a loud Mexican Mariachi birthday song for over 20 times. In summary, the food looked and tasted homemade by inexperienced people; lacking the crispness of high temperature or chilling of commercial appliances. The pieces of fish and vegetables were cut in disarray, lacking the consistent presentation of culinary professionals. Very dissatisfying!! On the contrary, hurray for Dr. Limon.

This restaurant Is not like before 🥹

By Thabatta L |

Not like it used to be. I was here with my husband and we order Ceviche and lomo Saltado , the food flavor is not like before. They reduce the portion as well . The server was distracted.

Excellent food, generous portions, reasonable price

By franksanchez0427 |

Excellent food, prompt and efficient service, generous portions, and very reasonable prices. When you first walk in you notice that the restaurant is not fancy and seems more like a cafeteria, with many tables tables within close proximity, but is maintained and very clean. Upon walking in you will also notice that the place is filled to capacity, and for very good reason the food is excellent, and the service is very good. I had the lomo saltado but in previous occasions I’ve had the camarones al ajillo ( shrimp in garlic sauce) and both were excellent, I highly recommend this restaurant.

What a Lunch

By Tim H |

It’s not often the dish delivered looks like and lives up to the picture and description on the menu. This place rocks!!!

Great Peruvian Dinner

By Spdk9taz |

My wife suggested we venture out and try El Chalan on a recent Saturday night. We were very pleasantly surprised at how busy the restaurant was. It's was absolutely packed and everyone appeared to be happily enjoying their dinners. We were seated after a brief wait and ordered two dinner entrees . The food was simply amazing and very fresh. The portions were huge and filled with fresh seafood. We loved it and will surely return.

best peruvian food in Miami, best prices

By Chingolo |

please if you want peruvian food in Miami, go to Chalan restaurant, best prices y big portions.

Lomo Saltado

By Tony_GCP |

My friends love this place, and I guess now so do I. They always order the Lomo Saltado, I do also but I ask for no salt or soy.. its VERY salty otherwise. They also have a Great Cevechi !

Delicious food!

By lyndapp |

Ordered the seafood ceviche, jalea real and seafood rice, the portions were huge and the food was delicious!!! The service was very fast and our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and very nice. Would highly recommend if you are looking for yummy Peruvian food.

Ceviche

By Didio B |

The best ceviche in town and the Peruvian food in general out of this world. The bartender could b a little bossy but the waiters are excellent and she could not stop me from coming here even if she try. Worth a drive

Pre Fathers day lunch

By dmontenegro |

My dad loves fish so we brought him to one of our favorite places for ceviche. The food was great. The server was horrible. She abandoned us during the meal and I had to call the manager for coffee. I probably will go back but ask for another server.

Wonderful people very helpful great menu and their recommendations were awesome pescado a lo macho incredible

This restaurant is always on point with service and food!

By Jose R |

Tallarines Verde with breaded steak & Papa A La Huancaina or Pescado Saltado (fish) or Lomo Saltado (steak) & Papa a La Huancaina. No matter what you order you must order Papa A La Huancaina. Ask for extra green sauce that is served with your bread and the red sauce that is not. If it's Friday the special is great! Fried fish chunks with salad and white rice and fish consome or chicken stew. I like the fish consome with lots of the green hot sauce! The service is fast and friendly and with prices so affordable you will become a regular! Enjoy!

Food good, but not a I need to come back immediately event

By Jeff K |

Ordered big order to go. All good decently fast service from window. I ordered Arroz Chaufa de Pollo and ahi de gallina. I always judge Peruvian Restaurants by the Chaufa. This wasn’t great by any means, wasn’t bad just in middle. The Ahi was good but not great. Probably need to give a second try to be fair, just didn’t get that I got to get back here feeling. Didn’t go inside so have no comment on restaurant, just food comment.

Bad service, smaller portions, higher prices, gave up on El Chalan..

By Alec N |

I'm a local customer and I've been coming here ever since they started here in South Beach and yes, like a lot of people say, the restaurant is not what it used to be, for starters the waitresses seem to be sick and tired with their jobs because they service you with a bad attitude and fake smile that they make you wanna ask them if they are ok, bad service, long faces and slow or not return if you need something else, secondly the food taste is still good but, but but they have reduced their portions a lot and specially if you order to go. and that brings me to another bad point: if you order to go on the phone to pick up later better make sure you record the conversation because when you arrive to pick up your food they try to give the wrong plate that you didnt order and of course they'll accuse of making the wrong order instead of them admitting their mistake, plus they are so cheap that despite the fact that they make thousand of dollars a day they have this cheap machine blowing hot air on the hall instead of having real a/c, their tv hanging on the wall is never working of course

Excellent Peruvian food !!!

By Ceci B |

The best Lomo Saltado in South Florida, among other Peruvian dishes !!! We make it a point to visit it "at least" once a year, the quality of the food never changed, the best throughout the years.

Great

By Salomon M |

What can I say great food absolutely awesome service by our waitress in a very family oriented setting

Excellent food!!

The food here was great, service was Ok but i cannt complain, I go there to eat :) They open late. Located right next to the beach, perfect location.

Good Peruvian

By GlobetrottingViking |

Lunch at this busy restaurant last week was a delightful experience. We were a group of five and the waiters were very helpful in providing different dishes to share, even where with was not the original design. You are obviously better of here if you can speak Spanish, but English works ok.

Once a good restaurant now the worse

By Fer19710514 |

The worse Peruvian food I had in my life, ceviche horrible chaufa even worse. This restaurant was good at some point now it’s the worse. Avoid I made a very expensive mistake.

Wonderful surprise

By PurpleScout |

I ducked into this restaurant to avoid a mid day rain shower, not knowing what to expect in terms of the food. The place looked busy, and I took that as a good sign. Wow! My meal of seafood and rice was wonderful and the food being delivered to the tables around me looked great, too. The prices were reasonable, the service attentive, and the bathroom was clean. A definite find!

Best Peruvian food in town!

By emilena89 |

Simply amazing! We discovered this restaurant a couple of months ago, some friends recommended it. The place is not fancy, but extremely clean! The staff is friendly, fast and a pleasure to deal with, totally worth a good tip. The menu is extensive, but we try to have something different every time and let's just say that not once we were disappointed or even felt the food was "ok", it is always delish! The portions are huge so we always share a entree. Talking to peruvian friends, they all recommend this restaurant and now we do too. Excellent food! Great prices, even if you think some plates can be a little expensive, you can probably share it. If you are not in the mood for alcohol, try their homemade, fresh squeezed lemonades, so good! We love it and will always go back when in the area!

The Best Peruvian Food in Miami!!!!

By maria u |

I have been going to La Chalen for 20+ years and the food is always delicious. I haven't been in a while and was in the neighorhood today and had lunch. The Mixto is delicious, with the pickled purple onions and fried yucca. The fish on the platter was delicious. The tartar sauce is also very good. My favorite was the vegetable fried rice, with fresh carrots, green beans, onions and corn. Very, very good. I am going to start going back more often. I live way down south and my neighbor goes there alot (and she is American and she loves it). Carmen our server was so friendly and kind and made us feel at home. The whole staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I saw alot of great plates being served to other tables and we are going to go back and try them.

Average Peruvian

By SSMiami31 |

Have been to multiple Peruvian restaurants in Miami and this one is well located close to Lincoln Road, but is very basic and there are better places in Miami. Try CVChe 105 or MPP in Brickell. Much better taste.

Excellent Peruvian Cuisine

By Juan M |

Food is outstanding !! This a Nice, Clean, Classic Peruvian Restaurant ..No matter what you eat, it's all not good BUT EXCELLENT...I have visited this restaurant several times, and I have never, never had a complaint about the quality of the food or the service. Of course if you happen to go there on a Friday or Saturday night, YES expect some delay, because is packed.... but then again that happens on any Restaurant in Miami or anywhere, that has such good quality in their food & service.

Great seafood

By Patricia P |

Peruvian style food. Excellent flavor, wide variety and all dishes are abundant. Small place with no frills but food is worth it. The ceviche is one of the best I have eaten. The arroz Chaufa is very good and can be shared since it is a gigantic plate.

Good Peruvian food

By larry157 |

In the heart of South beach , el chalan is a good option to enjoy Peruvian food with good prices and excellent service .lomo saltado the best , tacu tacu with pescado al ajillo excellent also the sangria was amazing (the best we ever tried) we recommend this place as a good option

Awesome Original Recipes...

By Jim F |

I've eaten Peruvian food all of my life and I must say that El Chalan has some of the best original recipes next to Mom and throughout the country of Peru. Portions are big so most dishes can be shared.

Not a fresh food! Service was gross!

By kgiacoman |

Potatoes were not fresh at all. The rice was overcooked and not fresh. Rude and disrespectful waitress, long wait for your drinks! the dessert changed on price suddenly from the one that you got in the menu for 2$ more with no reason. .

The best Peruvian food!

By sylonestar |

This restaurant is a go to time after time. Ceviche mixto, camarones (shrimp), and pescado al ajillo con camarones (fish and shrimp in special sauce) which is my absolute favorite! They have a very large diverse menu. Service is very good. We have been coming here for years and try to visit whenever we are in Miami. You won't be dissappointed!

Good but not as good as years past.

By fmldecr |

I feel the chef is exploring non traditional ingredients and the flavors are loosing losing authenticity. The fish was excellent. The Aji de galena was a sad interpertation.

el chalan

By Eduardo C |

I think that Peruvian food is one of the best foods in the wold and this restaurant serve very good Peruvian food the service its just OK because is too busy and they forget about you

Delicious, Authentic Peruvian Food

By Paige U. |

Went for a family lunch on a Sunday afternoon, my husband picked this restaurant, as he had been here before, but it was the first time for everyone else in our group of 4. We ordered a carafe of sangria and some papas a la huanacaina to start out. I'm not a big fan of potatoes, but they were ok, and smothered in the traditional yellow sauce. The sangria was solid, I've had better, but I've also had much worse. We also ordered a ceviche mixto as an appetizer, which brought 3 different types of ceviche, each one more delicious than the last! This was my favorite thing for sure! I loved the crunchy corn kernels in the bottom, make sure you try some! I ordered the pescado a lo macho and my husband had another typical fish dish, I can't remember the name of, but they were both delicious and we ended up sharing both! My daughter ordered the classic Lomo Saltado, and my nephew had the Lomo Combinado and they both loved their meals as well. We also tried a tres leches and a passion fruit mousse for dessert, theses desserts were prepackaged but they were good as well. The portions were really large, and we even ended up taking food home! Next time we go we might share a ceviche and split a main dish between 2 people, it would be plenty of food! The menu is huge, and if you can't decide what to order, I'd recommend the Lomo Saltado. It is a very traditional Peruvian dish and it was very good here.

Excellent!

By Amololatino |

Positive: Ambiance, food (big portions, great taste), friendly and quick service, good price. We went there 2 times and it was totally worthy.

Honest basic Peruvian food

By KeysRobert |

Honest basic Peruvian food. I've been there twice, both times it was packed with Peruvian, which I'm guessing it a good thing. The ceviche, which I try every where, was good. Food was good. Prices were fair. Hard to get to for tourists, but worth it.

The food is great!

By Alexandra F |

It is not a 5 start restaurant but they do serve 5 star food! Great service very tasty food it's calm & relaxing I do recommend it for anyone! 👍🏼

Traditional latin food

By Rosana S |

The manager makes the difference, he personally took care over my food allergies and his personal attention was great

Not happy

By Isaac L |

I asked if they could turn off the fan and the guy reacted like if I was bothering, the food was bitter, the staff not friendly, for sure I am not coming back to this place.

Want bad Peruvian food? This is the place

By Janet B |

Food lacks so much. If you want bad Peruvian at high prices this is the place. Ceviche is NOT made with fresh limes and the quality of the fish is not good. The lomo is tough and full of nerves. They put red peppers which it's not suppose to have . The taste leaves a lot to be desired. Go somewhere else, not worth the money nor the indigestion.

Surprisingly Good Take-Out

By Rtmiami |

Wasn't too familiar with Peruvian food and a friend recommended this place so decided to give it a shot. Have gone twice for take-out and both times food has been very good and take-out window service has been friendly and efficient. Have tried their Shrimp and Mixed Chaufas, basically a Peruvian twist on fried-rice , and the Fish Jaleas, which are fried fish chunks. The mixed Chaufa has all kinds of seafood including, octopus, shrimp and calamari. They serve a lot so definitely 2-3 people can eat from each order. Although prices may seem a little steep you definitely get your money's worth and the food tastes great. Each time I've gone the place is packed and there are people waiting outside which is always a good sign. Looking forward to actually eating at the restaurant and see how food and service is , but based on the looks of things I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

The Best in Peruvian Cuisine

By Kat W |

I chose this restaurant based on a recommendation from my hotel. We were on our way to Peru. The restaurant is small but don't be fooled. The quality and presentation of what is served is top, notch. Four of us shared an appetizer of deep fried shrimp, calamari, fish, mussels (jalela mixta) it was a huge serving and so amazing. Aside from that, we were all quite satisfied with our main courses. Upon our arrival we received the warmest welcome from Angel. He is a true Angel, who has been with this establishment for 32 years. I cant wait to return.

Best Peruvian Cuisine ever...

By Lim A |

I've been to this restaurant twice and the second time was way better than the first one. the service is great and pretty fast. I have no words to describe how good the food is. They have a great variety of dishes for all kind of customers. the only thing I don't really like from this restaurant is that the tables lay out make you think that you are in a diner, but the quality of the food makes you forget that. great job guys.

Great peruvian restaurant

By FabiolaMiami |

This restaurant is usually very packed because the food is excellent. The "suspiro limeño" is "out of this world".

El Chalan, excellent Peruvian restaurant in Arica!!! You must meet him and enjoy his food!!!

By Fernando R |

This restaurant was one of the very good experiences we had on our trip to Arica, since gastronomy is part of it. From our entrance to the restaurant and during the stay, we were made to feel very comfortable, both its owner Antonio Carbonel, and the waiter Jesus. We highlighted the excellent Peruvian food, enjoyed a trilogy of causes and an exquisite grilled octopus. It was very pleasant the dialogue with Antonio and Jesus, who in addition to the service, provided us with historical reviews of both Arica and Peru, which together with the decoration of the place, crowned our excellent lunch. For us the best Peruvian restaurant we visited in Arica. Highly recommended, so we wish you to continue with your gastronomic proposal. We take this opportunity to send a great greeting to Antonio and Jesus from Uruguay. Alejandra and Fernando.

We order “Churrasco a lo pobre”

By Hector S |

We order “Churrasco a lo pobre” and “Jalea” and the flavor and freshness of the food it was great!! Servers know what they doing and they are really nice and have a great customer service skills. Price nothing crazy in relation to those restaurants are in Lincoln Ave. I am would love to go back again ;)

This is a great place to sample and eat really good Peruvian food. I have been here many times and always end up ordering the "lomo montado". Service is always good fast and friendly. RECOMEND!

Great Peruvian Food...a must in Miami

By MiamiMon |

I am speechless, the fish Ceviche is addictive, the Jalea Mixta, fried seafood is cripy and yummy, and the Tacu Tacu with Steak is something you simply must try, a dish of rice and beans with steak in a brown salty sauce...amazing, trust me.

Great Food at Great Prices

By 345mercya |

The atmosphere is a family restaurant, not elegant or quiet, but the service is excellent and the food is great! Everything tastes fresh and portions are abundant. We have been going there for years and years and have never had a bad experience. I recommend this restaurant. The parking lot is always crowded and spaces are on the small side.

Delicious food!

By Ciri D |

We have been visiting El Chalan for decades. This is one of the best Peruvian restaurants in Miami. Their food is consistently delicious and fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic Food

By Ramon Z |

Unpretentious place with fantastic Peruvian food and friendly staff. You might have to wait to be seated, but the wait is worth it.

Authentic Peruvian Food

By Anna F |

I felt like my abuela was in the back cooking for me. The ceviche was fresh and the aji gallina had the right amount of spices. Definitely the best Peruvian food I've had outside of my grandmother's cooking.

Peruvian food best kept secret in Miami

By Angel R |

We love Peruvian food and unfortunately now there are many "good" places to go to but most of them are average. El Chalan is the real deal! All their ceviches are superb, seafood dishes are well cooked, seasoned and priced , they serve fresh squeezed lemonade (which is a must for me) . The ambiance is family, not pretentious and very accommodating. You can go at anytime and the quality is always there, no surprises. Priced just right!

Best Peruvian restaurant in miami

By Eve |

I've been a customer for over 20 years and they have never disappointed me. All the dishes are good, but my favorites are jalea mixta, arroz chaufa de mariscos, lomo saltado, Mixed ceviche and the papa a la huancaina. It might not be a fancy restaurant, but who cares when the food is so good! Don't forget to finish with a flan and cappuccino (better tasting than the overpriced Starbucks)

My first Peruvian food

By LarryBChinoHills |

Visiting relatives before a cruise and they took us here to El Chalan, I was apprehensive, then the food came with a great presentation and foods and flavors were unbelievable. Wish I would have taken pictures! To busy eating!

Lomo Saltado was excellent!

By Bette B |

This Peruvian restaurant was recommended by my conceirge for good food and an affordable price. At the recommendation of my server I tried the Lomo Saltado, a beef dish that was excellent. The beef was tender and veggies cooked to perfection. I also tried a local beer at her suggestion. The meal including the beer, bottled water & flan was under $25. They do not skimp on the portions either. It is a family oriented restaurant, so bring your kids as they have menu items for them.

The Tuesday Special!

By Mel_Medd |

This is a great family style Peruvian restaurant located in the heart of Miami. I've got to say, their Tuesday special which includes Chicken with Peruvian style green rice is my all time favorite. it's hard for me to try anything else because it's that good. It has so much flavor with the onions and the lime juice, carrots, and peppers. I've always been hesitant to try their vegetable soup since I tend to be a little picky... but, when I did I was mad I had been giving it away all this time. It is so delicious with a squeeze of lime and some bread to dip it in. I've also tried the lomo saltado which is good but had too many onions and not enough meat, in my opinion. The ceviche is also very, very good. They are especially known for their seafood, although I'm not much a sea food person. I trust that their seafood dishes are very flavorful since the ceviche is amazing. I typically order to pick up, on a Tuesday, for about 4 - 5 people at my office. The food is always ready and packed for pick-up and they've never messed up my order once. Very attentive people. We occasionally have lunch at the restaurant and the service is also good. Will obviously be going back... tomorrow.

Delightful and Delicious

By Clare M |

We dined at El Chalan after our friend recommended the restaurant. It was fantastic. The service was excellent--I think our server's name was Sondra and she could not have been more accommodating. Sometimes when you are the only English speakers in a Latin place, you feel like an idiot; but everyone including the bus people were great. The fish ceviche is not to be missed.

Rude waitress food not fresh.

By jacquie g |

The waitress was flirting with my partner!!! Ignoring me completely when I tried to order some wine. My husband was so embarrassed that he decided to tell her she must to listen my request. We'll never return to that place. Food was greasy, the rice was reheated as well the potatoes.

The best

By jdiaz1791 |

The best Peruvian restaurant in town. Excellent, fast service, all the typical Peruvian dishes , desserts and drinks. It’s a busy strip mall, plenty of parking ,but is busy. Seafood, meats , pastas, rice dishes. Have a window for take out and a counter. Excellent soups as well, daily specials.

Good late dinner

By Tripophiliac |

Considering that it was Sunday night 30 mins before closing time it is understandable that the atmosphere was not the best, but service, food and value were very good. Will definitely go back!

Worth going

By Noah R |

I enjoyed my seafood stew so much. I couldn’t finish and had the leftovers the next day and it was just as delicious. My son felt it was a top 20 meal of his life. He has lomo saltado with tacu tacu. The vegetarian girls has rice, bean, veggies and uninspiring corn.

A Good Peruvian Seafood Restaurant

By Aragon2627 |

If you enjoy real Peruvian fare, then this is the place where the locals eat lunch and dinner. The portions are large and the food is always fresh. Try their daily soups. The ceviche is fresh and correctly made. Prices are not expensive. Parking can be difficult for lunch but relatively easy for dinners. No reservations, first come, first served. Try their Choros (raw oysters cured with lemon and served with a tasty onion and pepper topping.

Tacu Tacu, the Peruvian Latke (pancake)

By Hope J |

It was Chanukah; I hadn't had a potato latke (pancake) yet. Stumbling upon El Chalan on Bird Road in Miami was an out-of-country experience. Serving staff quickly realized we speak limited Spanish and assigned their best English speaker. The menu included pictures and detailed descriptions. The Tacu-Tacu, consisting of white rice and potatoes, is not to be missed. A protein, such as scrumptious grilled chicken, or chicken in a sauce, or properly-cooked seafood, or red meat can be chosen. The portions are enormous (leftovers yield two more dinners) and reasonably priced. I don't think there's anything on the menu over $20.00. On subsequent visits we've tried the outstanding ceviches, appetizers, and other entrees. I've taken non-Spanish speaking friends and we were warmly accommodated. Do not miss this experience.

The Lomo Saltado is Great

By er22 |

El Chalan is only a couple of blocks off of Lincoln Road or Ocean Drive but well worth the walk. The service is very friendly and the food is delicious. If you are in the mood for a hearty Peruvian treat get the lomo saltado--you won't be disappointed. Wash it down with a bottle of chicha morada--a tasty Peruvian purple corn drink!

Paso lento

Living in Nicaragua, I was happy to see the name for I have bred some beautiful Peruvian Horses, and expected to find something to connect with. Nothing. But the food is average to good, portions could be smaller with no one complaining, and they do have Inca cola which is quite fast and makes a change from zerocoke.

Old time Favorite

Food is always delicious at El Chalan, we have been visiting this restaurant for the past at least five years. The service is family oriented, always friendly, by the way Peruvian beer is awesome ask for fish tropical or Chupe de Camaron or anything in the menu for that matter.

Good Peruvian food

By Jmfochoa |

Recently I went to El Chalan restaurant with my family, it was not my first time there. They keep quality of meals on all my previous visits. You can see people making line all days at dinner time. There are reasons, quality and service. Price affordable. I will return and recommend to my friends.

Top Notch Peruvian Cuisine!

So fortunate to have a friend looking out for me and took me this place. I highly recommend their ceviche and churrasco. I also like their chupe de camarones. My first time to try tacu tacu and it was really good. I need to workout!

Best Fish Ceviche in Town

By Cuberod |

This restaurant has the best Fish Ceviche in Miami, also the server's are wonderful people and provide excellent service. The prices are also great. Usually very busy at dinner time but it is worth to wait 15 minutes to get a table.

30 years serving excellent authentic Peruvian food

By Ntmh |

I've been visiting the Bird road location since 1981-2. A little shop with 6 tables has now expanded to triple its size, has a south beach location and you can't beat the prices. Try the sampler dish $16! You get ceviche(your choice), causa(your choice), papa huancaina and trimmings. Haven't ordered anything yet I didn't enjoy.

Delicious Peruvian food at reasonable prices!

By Coky M |

My husband and I started with the three-color fish (corvina) ceviche, which was delicious with its three different "ají" sauces. Then we shared a "jalea de pescado"- we usually don't eat fried food, but the fish was not greasy and fresh- it was cooked to perfection. The service was attentive, and the wine list was a bit limited but adequate, with most wines priced reasonably. The bavarois for dessert was light and out of this world, the best we've had anywhere. If I had to make a suggestion, I would tell them to include more vegetarian dishes. No wonder El Chalán is always full of happy customers!

Peruvian Ceviche

By HighHeelsTourist |

This place has been in Business for a long time, and it's good, but it is not consistent. There are times when you order something that you really enjoyed the time before, and it doesn't taste the same. But their ceviches are usually good. They need to improve on quality control.

Awful experience, I was nauseous...

By jorge o |

They waste a lot of time to bring in the food. Some tables were put on bread and others were not. I asked for an octopus cause and that seemed like a purple vomit....frightful! I asked for a fish jelly and the only thing they put me with was 2minimos bits of fried cassava (plus durisimas). I'm never coming back. They have a style of serving horrible food, almost every dish throws it like a sauce that looks like vomit. Really, very unpleasant and the attention wasn't much either. No justification for the late delivery of the.food, we were about to leave the site. I do not recommend it at all!
