We used to dine there regularly when we lived in LA. We went back after 30 years, and it is only similar in decor. The patio is under construction. The ladies still wear the big hoop skirt Mexican outfits, but sadly, the food pales in comparison to it's historic best. We used to hold it up on a pedestal to which other Mexican food would be compared. Those days are gone. Our Margaritas were watery and not even in a proper glass. The food was mashed and tasteless. So sad. The service was good; Our waitress was sweet; but we'd cannot go back again.

I've been going to El Coyote for most of my life. The food is good, the margaritas are great and the atmosphere is awesome. It's absolutely worth the visit.

Busy on a Friday evening, but we were able to get a table outside near a heater in their pretty garden setting. Wait staff were great, food was delicious and Margaritas strong! First time here, but can’t wait to come back next time we are in the area.

Great Mexican food and drinks. It's my favorite place to eat. Very popular and often crowded and for good reason. The El Coyote has a menu that will surely please you. They have a wonderful staff and photos are allowed. Celebs come here, but please be respectful. George Vreeland Hill

We ate here while staying in the area, after noticing that it had been there for over 50 years. The female staff was dressed in old fashioned tiered Spanish dresses. The food was delightful and the service was excellent. The Chicken Enchilada Suiza was amazing!

Popped into this classic restaurant because it is in Tarantinos Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which I'm a big fan off, not because of the Shazza Tate connection. Bar was a flipping bomb site and the bar man could hardly speak English. I think it was Happy Hour but pint was still around the 17 dollar mark. I couldn't tell if it was this barman's comms problems he was having or just the fact the place is an absolute rip off. Only had a couple but will return for something to eat another time.

"Nickel and diming" your customers before they set foot in the restaurant is not very clever business practice. If you park your car yourself just after 4pm - the car-park attendant comes to collect $4.50 for 'valet parking', even though he did nothing. Very officious too. Valet parking here is completely un-necessary, except to take additional money off customers. Ugh. Foods good - but not worth the parking-hassle.

We were out-of-towners visiting friends in LA, and one of those friends suggested Saturday night dinner at El Coyote. It was a delight. The restaurant is immense. We walked through several busy dining rooms before being seated in a booth by the hostess. I wondered whether the kitchen of such a huge and raucous restaurant operating near capacity could produce quality dinners. It did. El Coyote served me one of the most memorable Mexican meals I have ever enjoyed. I would go back in a second.

Had a birthday gathering here with some friends and this place was perfect for a dinner celebration. The ambiance is amazing and the servers are Super ! The food is delicious, in LA you can never go wrong with Mexican food. This place is iconic and a landmark in LA . Hard to describe it, just go see it and enjoy your meal !

we had a arge party of 7, that came in late in the evening, and we found the food and service to be excellent. thanks so much for the hospitality!

We didn't have reservations but since it was 8:30 we gave it a try. The bar was packed with people and we had to elbow our way through to order margaritas. Those were expensive and nothing special. Our table was ready about 40 minutes later. Service was slow but the waiter was friendly. When we finally got our food it was all good - well--prepared and presented, hot, and tasty. Food prices were reasonable. Valet parking in the small lot so glad we had some cash.

I was craving Mexican food after being on a low carb diet for a couple of months and decided to splurge at El Coyote. What a disappointment! First, let me say that the steak fajitas were very good -- the steak was perfectly cooked - probably the best I've had in a long while. My boyfriend had the shrimp fajitas and he said they were great. So if you're going for fajitas, this is the place. I was craving chile rellenos and was very disappointed. I read they were not that good here, but I thought how bad can they be. It was bad - soggy and in a tomato/marinara sauce -- nothing Mexican about that. Also, their salsa was more like a marinara sauce too. I noticed some reviewers like it -- but when I go to a Mexican restaurant, I don't want Italian. Now, the chips were great -- really fresh and tasty. My boyfriend had a cheese enchilada on the side and he was as disappointed with it, as I was with the chile rellenos. I guess its a mixed bag -- depends on what you order. But the standard Mexican staples - like enchiladas and chile rellenos were not authentic Mexican fare (and i know good Mexican food, having been born and raised in L.A., and being half Mexican). I understand their marguerites are great though!

Before prices went up everywhere, this beloved restaurant hiked up prices more than others today and so much that it's now impracticable to even go there. And I'm not the only one to notice. They're now closed on Mons. Tues. due to the drop off of customers. Used to be my go-to place to take family and friends. At one point we went close to once a week, sometimes more. Charging $14 for a Margarita is just crazy. Maybe if that included parking and a live show? Or maybe if the meals weren't also now so over-priced? - Just sad.

During a recent trip to LA asked the hotel for a recommendation for dinner. El Coyote, they said. We weren't disappointed! I had a cheese enchilada and a chile relleno. Both were just right. Very nice red chile sauce. Nice atmosphere. We sat on the patio.

El Coyote restaurant serves Mexican food. Service is fast and fabulous, and several of the waitresses served there for many decades. Indoor and outdoor seating. I visited before the year 2025. Full bar and extensive reasonably priced menu.

Went to El Coyote last night and was glad to see that it is still the friendly fun place I remembered. I had my Combination 2 which is the Chile Relleno and Chicken Enchilada. We also had Cadillac Margaritas that were really good and plenty strong! My friend had fajitas which can be better elsewhere but they came with some of the best flour tortillas I have ever had. Also the refried beans here are absolutely the best. The decor is really fun and like nothing you have seen. This is a fun restaurant that has survived for more than 40 years and is probably great for locals or tourists.

Incredible authentic atmosphere with plenty of seating space. Staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu has a great variety of Mexican food. When it came to the actual food, it was poorly presented, greasy and cheap-looking and tasted basic. Could improve on that to make it 5 star!

This place is a must if you are in Los Angeles. We have been coming here for 40 years. It's about time I wrote a review of it. We were there for lunch today, and as usual it was very busy. I ordered the Albondigas soup to start out and The Carnitas Plate as my main course. We waited and he eventually brought out or main courses, but no soup. Ordinarily I would be been upset, but when I saw the amount of food they served I forgave him. This was the first time I had been there for lunch. The portions were huge. Nothing like I thought they would be for lunch. There was a time I could put away that much food at a sitting, but those days are long gone. When I finished was stuffed and the plate looked like it had not been touched. My spouse ordered the enchilada plate and while the portion was smaller, the amount left was enough for another person. The preparation was perfect and the taste was incredible. I certainly know why I have been coming here for 40 years and why we will continue to make a point to have at least one meal here anytime we are in Los Angeles.

El Coyote has been serving LA since the 1920's. Drinks are great and the food is a standard must have. Try the No 1 Combo, or the Tostada, or both, but be hungry

The atmosphere of this restaurant is really that of an authentic cantina and seems full of local history. The staff are very friendly and efficient with the menu easy to follow. A dining experience offering the hustle and bustle of a busy cantina so if this is not your thing, this restaurant is not for you. The Margaritas are great and the food enjoyable. Very popular, no reservations possible for small groups but the bar attached to restaurant has a similar fun atmosphere!

We dined here last evening. We did not have a reservation and were lucky we had a party of 4, we were seated immediately. The food is authentic, delicious and well presented. The servers could not do enough for you. If you are a guacamole fan, don't miss it.

My friend said what ever I do don’t go to El Coyote after work. After a few weeks I was invited to El Coyote. Not sure what to expect I was pleasantly surprised. High kitch decor; booths; fun. We ordered margaritas I had the Cadalac made with grande marnier , strong enough so I stopped at one drink . The food was way too much even though we planned sharing. The food was good. Everyone was satisfied the vegetarian, the fussy eater, the child, and the meat eaters. A good place for a party or mixed group. 8 people, cocktails, $320 it felt like food value.

Solid old school “authentic” Mexican restaurant. I had a shrimp burrito, which was large and tasty. The salsas are very tasty. It’s a great place to eat a lot of comfort food. We were all very satisfied. No surprises here.

This place totally reminds me of the Mexican restaurant in Denver (Senor Pepe's) that my family always went to back in the 1970s when I was a kid. Time has hardly touched El Coyote, except for the fact that they actually have tamales without meat (green corn tamales), which are hard to find even today. Retro Mexican food is the best way to describe it. This is my comfort food, and I hope they don't change a thing. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in L.A.

This style of Mexican restaurant has mostly disappeared in LA in favor of more groovy names and exotic styles. This place screams "comfort food" and it is available in every line item on the menu. Everything is good and made to order. The guacamole is fresh and well spiced, and the margaritas are great. You see date nights, families, children's birthday parties and everyone happy and satisfied. Bring a big hunger!

Always one of my favorite stops when I am in LA. It is blocks away from the CBS center on Beverly Blvd. It is original, quite quaint but in a beautiful way. The food is the star followed closely by the service.

This great traditional layout Mexican restaurant serves great food and gives great customer service! The menu is completely traditional and authentic! You are greeted warmly and you feel like they are glad you are there even though they are always busy and packed. The greatest thing about this place is that they have a parking lot...it's small but it's a parking lot!!!

Stopped in here on a recent trip to LA with family. Typical burritos and tacos place but very good execution of these basics and service was spot on. Place is big inside, valet parking and good selection of Mexican beers.

Great atmosphere, not haute cuisine but good solid Mexican food, you can fill up on the tortilla chips alone. price very reasonable especially drinks, went twice around the Day of Dead, which was a hoot!

Used to stop in here regularly 25 years ago... great for couple margaritas to start the evening! I'm glad they're still around.

I visit LA a few times a year and I ALWAYS stop at El Coyote when I am in town! Enchiladas Howard is my go to dish but you can't go wrong with whatever you get. The staff is super friendly and amazing and the food is to die for. I recommend the mango margarita if you want a drink with dinner! Amazing!!!

Authentic Mexican cuisine... Excellent food (and spicy...)... Good service and staff... Prices on average...

Every time i visit Los Angeles this is my cheat meal place :D Burritos are like gym bags :D Free nachos and sauces. cheap but great food

There is always a line up to get in. Hard to find parking in the area, but they do provide valet. We waited lesss than 15 min on a Sunday night. We were seated and served within 15 minutes. Waiter was pleasant and had no problem allowing us to make a few substitutes. I had the taco salad and asked for ground beef instead of shredded. It arrived hot and each ingredient was generous and of good quality. Taco shell was crip. I ate every by of it. They do serve tortilla chips and salsa (several types) and we had to restrain ourselves, as they were good and knew we would fill up too quickly. It was a busy place with lots of photos of celebrities that had been there. Moderately priced. Will be going back again.

Enjoyed a nice lunch at El Coyote on Beverly Blvd. service was slow to start, but improved after some encouragement to our waiter. We sat outside on a slow day which caused some "daydreaming" by staff. Chile rellenos were very good, with tasty red enchiladas. Taco sealed was hugh and very good. Excellent, fresh salsa with chips. El Coyote has a great heritage for great Mexican food. It's worth a visit. Nice inviting bar is also great or afternoon cocktails.

Some of the best Mexican food I've had in metro LA. Staff is very friendly, our server worked there since 1978 - so something is being done right. Tortilla chips come with very spicy and mild salsas. Margaritas are strong. Tip: Join the waitlist via Yelp before you arrive, we were seated at the very top end of or estimate (about an hour).

Loved the food, very accomadating staff and fast service. The Pear Margarita was soooooo yummy!!! Very affordable pricing and even had left overs to take home. Will be back!

The food and service here are just excellent. We had shrimp tacos, which were fresh and very good. The chips beforehand were accompanied by two kinds of salsa that were so good. The waiter then brought us a larger bowl of the one we liked best, along with more chips! We recommend El coyote to anyone who loves Mexican food!!

I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting LA. The best Mexican food I've had around that area. I tried petty cash before trying this and give this restaurant 10/10. It usually really busy hence why me and my Mrs decided to go to petty cash but this place has better food and it's better priced. Guacamole with nachos is a must! I would've been happy to just have that, that's how good it is!

Wonderful service and great good. What else can you ask for. Large, no huge portions. We had chicken burrito s, great. Enough for 2-3 people.

We were visiting Hollywood and naturally had to eat here because of its fame- lots of people in line but we were served in about twenty minutes. Ate on the patio and really enjoyed that. Our servers were wonderful and I absolutely loved the food. Had a burrito and it was huge and so good. Also loved the chunky salsa. And the atmosphere is so much fun. Love the decorations

Authentic Mexican place to eat with a great ambiance and very friendly staff. Worth a visit if you are around. Valet parking for a couple of bucks.

The food was great! My friend and I enjoyed it very much! I will definitely go back here again. very lovely place!

I love this restaurant! Anytime I visit LA it is a must! Great prices and wonderful food. The nachos are the best I have ever had. The staff is very inviting and friendly. There is big history here as the Restaurant opened in 1931. Many actors and famous people come here. I love the old school vibe here and the great service. I look forward to going back really soon.

This place was great. The staff was so kind.... and we really enjoyed the traditional Mexican attire. It was busy but our server was on-top of it all. Food was great, best nachos Ive ever had.

El Coyote was a restaurant we wanted to stop at while passing through LA from Northern California (Bakersfield to OC) and it was absolutely worth the drive in to LA! El Coyote's staff is extremely friendly and everything about the restaurant feels very authentic and very well thought out and put together. It absolutely feels like lots of love and care is taken into running this restaurant and this feeling is not only radiant among the staff but it's also extremely present due to the amazing quality of the food too. El Coyote has some of the most friendly wait staff and some of the most attentive wait staff of any Mexican restaurant that we had visited during our time in LA during August and we'll be eagerly returning to El Coyote when we return to LA soon! I'd give this place 10 if I could because this place deserves it. 10/10.

Great food and margaritas in a very old school restaurant. Love the colorful waitress dresses. We live on the other side of LA but always try to visit El Coyote when we are in the neighborhood. Parking can be hard, I got a ticket on the side street one time.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I believe they are thieves. I've been going to El Coyote for decades and it seems that now they might be in the business of stealing from customers by changing credit card slip totals to charge more than authorized. This has happened to me on a number of occasions over the last several months by adding or changing a digit to the original tip amount. I've called them on it before and they say "oh, we're so sorry a mistake was made when we entered the numbers....blah blah blah". Total bs imo. It's time to contact the DA/law enforcement and let them know that I believe there's probably a very huge $$ making credit card theft scam taking place at this particular restaurant.

Fun atmosphere, good price and delicious Mexican Shrimp Burrito. Viene bien con Cerveza. Parking off Beverly Blvd. close to The Groove

Everytime I come to L.A. I make time to ho to El Coyote their food and service is great at good price, I ordered the Howard Enchiladas they were delicious.

Amazing experience. Found it by accident and loved the look of the decor so we gave it a try. Exceeded expectations. Portions are HUGE. Service was fast. They have a kids menu. The margarita was great. Service was some of the best I’ve had in years! Little details that make a difference, service like it used to be. Marjorie the owner came by the table to ask how our meal was and top up our drinks and it felt like we saw a celebrity!! 10/10 recommend. (After visiting we looked it up! Wow, what a history!)

This place has been on my bucket list for some time now. After shopping on Rodeo Drive we headed here for dinner on a Sunday night. Parking is tough to find in this area but they offer valet parking for $3.50, it's better than pulling your hair out looking for a free parking spot. We drove up to the valet and got out and noticed a bright pink Corvette with ANGLYNE on the plates, yes the legend was here. We only waited about 5 minutes to get a table for the 4 of us despite it being very busy. The inside is dark and my friend found Angelyne sitting at a back table. The bus boy brought us chips and plenty of salsas, we devoured these chips within a minute, they kept bringing more chips and salsa. Our waiter was Jose, it was so busy our waiter was rushing back and forth everywhere. I ordered the Chile con Carne "La Cocina" style which comes with a bowl of their famous taco sauce. The food, atmosphere, ambiance, and our waiter were all first rate, we loved it.

My sons brought me to this classic Mexican restaurant because I was craving Mexican food! We all ordered the coyote combo and I must say the beans were awesome! Better than most Mexican restaurants and I’ve tried many! Quick service and big portions! A little too dark for my liking, but we had a good time together!

The food really isn't very good. Used to eat here frequently. The drinks are good. Used to be a pick up bar, and I assume it still is.

We had a wonderful time ..the food was excellent. The guacamole is to die for..Friendly staff..Twinkle lights and Pinatas everywhere. Try the spicy Margarita. Yummy.

Average authentic mexican. Price was very reasonable and service was very good. I had been enchiladas and a chile rejano. Chile Rejano had an excellent tomato sauce and egg covering although the cheese had not melted.

Great service, food, and atmosphere for Cinco de Mayo. Food was prepared exactly to order! Live band playing. All around a great time!

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles! I've heard it's a common spot for celebrity sightings but we didn't see any on our trip. I wouldn't have been surprised if we did because this place is adorable, it has little "coves" and dark places to "hide" and it has a nice atmosphere. I would certainly "hide out" here!!! We arrived for an early dinner They have a small parking lot and during certain hours, they offer valet parking. When we arrived early afternoon on a Thursday, however, we were able to park ourselves right near the door and walk in! A rare treat in LA!!! We were seated in a booth in the back, next to the kitchen door because we requested somewhere out of the way, cool and quiet. It's dark in there, as some have said, the decor is "outdated", the colorful "costumes" of the servers MAY be considered tacky by SOME (indeed, I felt almost like I was in an amusement park) but I absolutely LOVED everything about it!!! I felt like I stepped back in time to the 1950's or 60's. We arrived from LAX, just off a long flight and were severely jet lagged and the cool darkness was sooooo welcoming! I LIKE the "touristy" decor!!! Our server was an absolute DOLL! She was pleasant and fun and made us feel that she really cared. She was top notch on service and we just loved her!! To top all of that off, the food was INCREDIBLE and plentiful and we both took home enough leftovers for another meal. What more can you ask for? I will be going back again and again and again. If the owners see this: I hope it never changes!!!

El Coyote has a casual and fun atmosphere. We had fantastic service by all staff members. Our food was quick, hot and delicious. The prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is surprisingly big with many areas to sit, some likely quieter than others. We really enjoyed our experience here and will be back.

We did not have reservations, but sine it was only noon, they were able to seat us right away. The restaurant was hustling and bustling. The waiters all help out one another . They serve 2 types of salsa, one mild, the other spicy 🌶. There are plenty of chips and the food was delicious. The ambience was authentic Mexican decor.

It doesn’t get better - it’s survived the test of time because it’s fresh, simple, and reasonably priced with top customer service too boot... it’s all about the carne asada - say no more... a must for all...

If you only have time for 1 place to eat, let this be it!! The food was amazing, the staff was incredible and very friendly. The owner stopped and talked to us for a few minutes and told us the story of the place which was very interesting. The guacamole was the best I've ever had. You will not be disappointed.

El Coyote is a cool place to grab drinks during happy hour because they’ve got great margaritas and good food too. Plus they’ve been around since 1931, so you can only imagine its great history. It is lined with autographed images of celebrities that date back many years ago. It was clear to me that my co-workers had many stories to tell about this place and how it used to be THE spot to go to, and still is. In my opinion, the best entree is the Coyote Plate with the rib eye steak, but the enchiladas are tasty too.

We took a chance on this place for dinner while waiting for a double feature at the New Beverly Cinema and it was delicious. Service was great and the food was tasty and fairly priced. My husband had enchiladas and I had the chicken fajitas, both were great. I also recommend the margaritas if you are so inclined.

I can't believe I haven't done a review before now! My friends and I found this place late one night while we were in LA doing stuff that day...TWO YEARS AGO. We live in Riverside 64 miles away from this place. Each time my friends and I take a day trip into LA, we try to swing by and have either lunch or dinner here. In fact, the other day we drove by it on the way somewhere else for lunch and stopped in later for dinner. It's good, it's vintage, the staff are quite friendly and we love it. It gives off that "NORM!" feeling from the TV show cheers. I recommend the Buffalo Tacos! You can't get those everywhere! The inner restaurant is on the dark side, insert joke here, but use your cell phone light if you need to and you will be fine. You can always sit in the bar or on the patio too. After 4pm they have valet service only in the parking lot so expect to pay to park, or just park on the street for free.

Great Mexican food, service, bar, and decor. The menu was typical Mexican food but with their own specials. The salsa great! They bring 2 different kinds. It was so good that we went several times during our business trip. All cars are valet parked in a lot after a certain time... I think 8:00pm for $4.50, or you can park on the street. The staff dress in beautiful dresses and suits, and the decor is pretty cool. The food is fast and fresh and tasty. The best part was the bill being much lower than expected in Hollywood/LA. Easy traffic getting there helped too.

We stopped in after just arriving to Los Angeles for a late dinner. We were tired and hungry and this place was perfect. Great atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food! Homemade guacamole and salsa were so good we ate too much and couldn’t finish our dinners! My husband had the fish tacos and my daughters had the chicken and steak tacos. I had the famous homemade tamales that were out of this world! Drinks were great too! They also had a cute outside dining area and a bar! Hollywood memorable is hanging in the lobby with a ton of famous people who have visited over the years! Great place!

Wanted to visit this famous Mexican restaurant for a while and was not disappointed. The food is superb and the portions BIG! It was a very busy Friday night, but we only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. The service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

This Mexican restaurant El Coyote is simply the best one i´ve been to so far, serving great tasting food! I´ll be back next time i´m in Los Angeles, highly recommended!

This Los Angeles Classic serves traditional Mexican food with old world flair. The costumed waitresses, the vintage decor and the classic dishes combine to give this the air of authenticity you look for in LA's fast-paced whirlwind lifestyle. A safe haven that's always entertaining and delightful.

Very nice traditional Mexican restaurant. Been here forever, can be seen in many movies such as Q Tarantino's "once upon a time in Hollywood" so you get the feeling of being part of Hollywood's history. Food is typical but good quality Mex, Margaritas are excellent and waiters are friendly and efficient.

We go there a lot, at least twice a month. The food is great, most of the staff is friendly, great margaritas. Miguel and Floyd are the nicest waiters. The place has been in business forever, and it's very charming. It's a great place for tourists as well, to get a little taste of L.A. Definitely recommend.

I joined a friend for lunch, arriving around 11:40am. It was dead quiet at that moment, but about the time my friend arrived, shortly before noon, it picked up considerably. We spent quite a bit of time in the restaurant, visiting and enjoying our drinks. Our server was very nice and was quite patient with us during our lengthy visit. I ordered the burrito with beef. It was ridiculously huge and I could never have finished it in one sit down. It was delicious. I had a great visit and would love to stop by again.

An iconic family owned restaurant in the heart of Los Angeles. 93 years old and still offering the best of the best when it comes to authentic Mexican food. First opening in 1931, I have visited this place on multiple occasions, I am U.K. based but have had 3-4 trips to LA for leisure.. El Coyote is always the first & the last stop of the entire trip!! I have been fortunate enough to enjoy the exceptional experience here with both my friends and my son who sure mutual love for this iconic place. I will continue to dine here whenever I visit the west coast. The history, charm, ambience, homeliness and staff are the best in the entire world! Not forgetting the warm-hearted and charitable owner Marjorie Christoffersen, she takes care of all her customers to the highest regard and is an absolute diamond. It is also the final dining place of the beautiful upcoming hollywood actress Sharon Tate - August 8th 1969. The restaurant remains unchanged with her corner booth still a precise replica & a mural at the entrance in her honour. Much love to the El Coyote Family - you are simply the best ❤️

I have been going to this restaurant since 1966 and even though I no longer live in the area, when I visit and bring friends, I can count on a great dining experience. The ambience is festive and colorful, the food is just frankly delicious, and they even have some healthy choices! The service is attentive and friendly. I'll definitely be returning!

This restaurant is a landmark in Hollywood history. Opened on the bank holiday in the Great Depression. Try the highlighted homemade specials which are so good and very authentic. Every time we are in the LA area, we go out of our way to go here. As one poster said, 30 years later, we returned. Also last time I was here about seven years ago, I swear I saw a rock and roll icon eating across from us. And if you look at the ceiling in the front desk, you will see many famous actors and stars who have dined here with more recent additions. We dined for lunch on the patio which was pleasant - not too hot and not too cold in the late afternoon. Not exactly 5 star outside, but very very pleasant. And since it was between lunch and dinner, we could sit a bit with our LA relatives whom we had met here and hung out after eating. You can substitute the rice and beans for other items like a salad. There are a la carte options which are wonderful. Very very reasonable. But 30 years ago you could get the house margarita for $2 during happy hour - alas, no longer! But a full bar if you want it. We started with a big nice fresh guacamole and freshly fried chips, then a variety of a la carte items on the recommended list. Plus some got rice and beans, while others did the salad. Nice! Filling! Authentic! Good service! My partner still owns his red hat from the first time we came here 30 years ago, a good luck charm. Down the street from CBS studios. It looks a little dated, but do not let that hang you up. It is part of old Hollywood, and in fact, it has been the background for some movies and TV shows, esp. crime or cop shows from the 50's and 60's and 70's! Fun!

A great authentic Mexican restaurant on Beverley blvd. must have in house margarita. I had carne enchilada. Great family restaurant ambience

Most people avoid restaurants on Mother’s Day because it is the busiest restaurant day. I usually do but this year J took me to El Coyote because she wanted to visit an iconic L.A. location. Many Hollywood stars have crossed this threshold. And, the staff happily answered J’s fangirl questions. The food was good and typical Mexi-American fare. The service was awesome because we were seated surprisingly fast and multiple waitstaff brought drinks, chips and salsa, and our meals. I had carnitas and J had fish tacos. There was easy parking and I would visit again.

My brothers and I often frequent this place when I'm in town. The food is great and the wait staff is awesome. We get the best service every time we visit. It's a classic "go to" restaurant for us!

We love this place! We go regularly. Great margaritas, great food, easy to sit for a long time and catch up with your friends!

First night in LA and a friend took us to El Coyote. The food was excellent, but the service was a bit slow. One must pay for parking which adds a bit to the price of dinner, but that's LA!!

A great option for Mexican in LA! I am from San Antonio, so am always a little more picky when reviewing a Mexican restaurant, but El Coyote did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great and authentic and the food was well priced and so good! They give you two types of hot sauce (don't bother with the liquid one, the chunky is WAY better) and a full basket of chips were never not on our table. Make sure you order the house margarita, its strong and perfect!

Cheese enchiladas are and the one I had was excellent. I got the #1 combo for dinner and it was SO good. The three of us all loved our food and drinks. Chicken, beef, and shrimp fajitas, margaritas and cerveza. Interesting side note: Sharon Tate and friends had their final meal here on that fateful night.

El Coyote is a classic mexican restaurant. Good food, good tequila. And excellent value for the food.

This our go-to place in Los Angelos for lunch or dinner when we want Mexican food. Food is always good and fresh. Service is prompt and most servers are been there for over 110 years. Great place to take a break from shopping. I would arrive early as it gets extremely busy after 6 pm.

I went to the restaurant with a friend as I had read about it in a magazine article than named it a 'top Mexican restaurant'. Having lived in Mexico I found the food very average, not poor, just average. I felt ripped off at having to pay $3.50 to park in their own carpark under the guises of 'Valet Parking'. I won't be returning to this restaurant......it's lost the shine it may have had years ago.

I love the vibe of this resistant. They maintained the integrity of the era. Very decorative, with rich and warm visuals. The service was so quick for how busy it was, very impressed. Food was fantastic! The personalized, vintage take away bags surely were a nice touch as well. Iconic Hollywood restaurant did not disappoint.

We enjoyed our dinner. Friendly service and very good food. We only had a short wait to be seated and we were promptly served.

My boyfriend and I went here last night on a friend's recommendation! We were glad we are here. We ordered the sampler, the quesadilla and the poppers were delicious! We ordered a casaer salad, that was just ok, nothing special. I ordered ground beef tacos and those were so tasty. He ordered the shrimp street tacos, which he enjoyed. The frozen margaritas were fantastic! Miguel was our server and he was great!

always wanted to visit this restaurant, iconic of LA since 1931 but each trip managed to miss it. Not any longer.I followed other TripAdvisor reviews and had the green corn tamales- superb, the tacos a cut above any I had before for a long time, and I grew up on Mexican food. Margaritas good too. Friendly fun place and full of Hispanic customers a sign for me that I am eating in the right place.

As someone who frequents tons of restaurants throughout the country and parts across the pond for many years, I think the most astonishing aspect of restaurant reviews is when you get a read a review of a restaurant which you find diametrically opposite of everything you believe about it. When this happens to me, especially when it is in my own neighborhood, I always make it my mission to go back at least three times to make sure I wasn’t there on a “downtime”. After all, all restaurants have days and nights where nothing goes right. In most cases it’s just the alignment of the planet’s that causes this anomaly. Knowing that, I feel it imperative to give a restaurant that has fallen on its face some more chances. And that brings me to El Coyote. I’ve lived my entire life in Los Angeles, and not far from this “beloved” eatery. I still remember many years ago going there for the first time with high anticipation. This was in a time before real Mexican cuisine had been discovered and there were very few what would be considered “authentic” Mexican Restaurants. That is where I believe El Coyote began to get its reputation. Simply no one knew any better. Having had lived in Mexico, especially in Oaxaca, home of some of the greatest food in Mexico, as well as the birthplace of many of America’s greatest chefs, I was used to Mexican cuisine of the highest level. No, I wasn’t expecting that from El Coyote, but I also wasn’t expecting the nightmare that was put in front of me. It appears that most of the ingredients come from cans, or industrial frozen packets. Nothing is made from fresh ingredients. The food is stunningly uninspired, basically tasteless, and has as much to do with Mexican cuisine as a “bean burrito” at 7-11. It is absolutely astonishing that this place has been around as long as it has, and continues to generate good reviews. Remarkably its name has gone into the lexicon of Los Angeles’ eats. I’m all for any restaurant becoming successful. But I find it discouraging that El Coyote has never seemed to try and improve their outrageously horrific food. I guess the point is that they believe “why mess with distress?”. If it’s bad but people eat it, then why improve it? It is truly disheartening for tourists to Los Angeles, especially when Los Angeles now is overflowing with magnificent examples of Mexican. For the “locals” who don’t seem to know any better, or for that matter care… it’s too late… but for those of you who come here, looking for true Mexican cuisine, check out the tons of amazing establishments in and around the city! I mean, it’s like going all the way to Disney World, and spending your entire day on Main Street riding the horse-drawn trolley up and down the road!

Technically, this is a Tex-Mex restaurant, not a Mexican restaurant. Also, I rated it as "excellent," although the food isn't actually very good (I ate here without a margarita once). But the margaritas are great, the crowd is fun, and the food is fine after a margarita. Or three! Go!

Chips and the salsa were good. As far as the food tasted, I would not say it was genuine Mexican tasting. I would rate it with Taco Bell. Service was average at best. There was no hot sauce on the table and when we asked for some they said they would look. Said they may have some Tabasco. They didn’t even have that. Would not recommend this place.

We came for late lunch and waited 5 minutes for a table. Chips and salsa start the experience and the red Chile served alongside the salsa is hot🌶! The food is freshly prepared and served hot. Generous portions and tasty. Kitschy and fun. Helpful, plz let me know and enjoy El Coyote.

Exquisite Mexican food and very good service. The staff very helpful, attentive and fast. The food is very good and in large portions. Completely recommended.

When you walked into the restaurant it's like a maze. We started the meal off with freshly made guacamole. I had enchiladas for mains and whilst tasty - they are on the cheesy side. All in all quite a traditional if not vintage experience.

I haven't been to El Coyote since I moved from LA many years ago. This was always one of my favorite places in West Hollywood, with good authentic Mexican food. We had the tamales, and as expected they were good, as were the margaritas.

I do like visiting El Coyote when I am in Los Angeles. A great place for lunch or dinner and conveniently located between downtown and the Westside. There is something for everybody to be found on the menu and your portions will not allow you to go hungry.

Stepping into El Coyote is like stepping back in time ! Old style booths, crammed with bricabrack. We loved it ! Fussy teenagers loved it. Great mexican food, reasonably priced

Best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to! The food was full of flavour and utterly delicious. The decor is lovely and the booths are really comfortable. We went on a Saturday night when they were very busy, and still we could easily hear each other talk. The floor is carpeted and the restaurant is full of colorful lights. A great experience!

Great food, great service, plenty of people (they need to have valet parking for dinner because parking would be chaos without it. Their servings are big, their staff is friendly and the ambience is very fine. Great please to eat!

I came here with my fiance and sister, who lives in LA. She said it is probably her favorite restaurant around so we wanted to go and try it out for ourselves. She was 100% correct! The food was delicious (pork carnitas) and the house margarita was awesome. The atmosphere is so cool and old school, it made you feel like you were somewhere other than Los Angeles, CA. We walked right in and got a table, and it was around 7:30PM on a Friday. The food came out quickly, and the staff was very friendly. My only complaint is that there isn't an El Coyote in Boston where we live! I would go constantly if there where. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone who loves Mexican!

Rice was cold. The enchilada and beans actually taste terrible. I've been a long time customer, however since they changed cooks the food just isn't good. Would not recommend this restaurant for Mexican food, go elsewhere.

El Coyote is a great place with authentic Mexican food! The service is always good the food excellent and the atmosphere is true to a Mexican place to eat. Try the Chile Rellenos or the Enchilada you will not be disappointed!

Do you love Mexican food then you need to come to El Coyote. I been here twice and they have really good food. Their enchiladas are delicious with their beans and rice. The avocado is to die for fresh and with flavor. The flatas are are really good too. I know is going to be for everyone when it comes to Mexico food but I really enjoy it. Why 4 stars is a little pricey in my opinion but they do give alot food.

This restaurant has been operating in LA since 1931. The food is good traditional Mexican that is reasonably priced. The decor is kitschy and quirky Mexican and has changed little in twenty five years. The service is good. The Margaritas from scratch are excellent.

I've been visiting for decades. The margaritas are really good and the menu is interesting. I like their original tostada which packed with veggies. Imagine beets and peas in a tostada with thousand island dressing, and it tastes great. The waitresses dress in traditional Mexican garb, and the place is very colorful and has lots of booths and outdoor seating. The service is great. You get served in minutes.

I have to admit we went because of it's connection to a certain infamous crime of the 70's. As the title says, the atmosphere is nice, the staff was also nice and courteous, the food was OK, what I ordered was a little bland, but portion sizes are big.

We had dinner in this old known restaurant. Food was amazing and the portions were big. The margaritas are powerful. And the price really affordable 8 people for almost 200$. Worth a visit.

I really love this place. The atmosphere, the drinks, service and on occasion the food. Unfortunately as there are no vegan options you have to ask the waiter what can be done and depending on there understanding can have different results. I’ve been given non vegan food. I’ve had an amazing salad. I’ve been told there is nothing. So I just eat the Free nachos and dip that come at the table and got drunk. I really live this place but I’m always worried to go because I don’t know what will happen when I ask for something vegan. Just one thing on the menu, marked as vegan would give me the confidence to go there more often and know I won’t leave hungry. Please don’t change but please just make one vegan main meal. Seb

Party of four arrived around 7:30 pm without reservation, although the restaurant was crowded we were seated right away. Wide selection on the menu. We each had something different and all was good. The decor is reminiscent of "old" Mexican restaurants, colorful with lots to look at. There is a great collection of old toys in the entry area that are fun to look at. Service was efficient, servers friendly. We were not rushed to leave - surprising since it is busy. Prices were reasonable and worth the value for our food. Parking is valet and located on site. Will go back the next time I am in the area

We did a lot of research before visiting LA to find what was supposed to be a really good Mexican restaurant. It was awful - from start to finish. But mainly the food - as soon as our 12 year old started eating his slop (it did not even look like food), he had to rush to the bathroom. The fajitas were bland and the rest of our food .... some of it was not even identifiable and tasted awful. Never again! And so disappointed that this was our experience of Mexican cuisine in LA!

El Coyote just celebrated its 85th anniversary. Great character, sparkly xmas lights, Mexican decorations, large plates of food. The tortillas tasted home made, the food is rich but tasty. Apparently, great margueritas.

We go there at least once a month with my family and friends. I love the steak fajitas, the service is good and the food is always consistent. Very reasonable prices.

My family has been el coyote almost since it opened. I am third-generation my kids are fourth generation and now my grandson will be fifth generation 15. We just love the place. Nothing fancy and almost always really good eats. The number one is the classic and enchilada and taco. The albondigas soup is wonderful and you could die for the margaritas. I suggest you get the ultimate margaritas with the booze straight up and a glass of ice with salt on the side. Pour the margarita into the ice glass and enjoy.

Great Mexican food, stunning margaritas (go for the rocks on the side you'll get more!) I have spent many a night here, it is a great locale for parties. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

So I was really excited to go here. It is afterall a legendary Hollywood restaurant. It was good but I think I honestly expected more. The margaritas were good, but nothing special. I had the fajitias which again were good but nothing extraordinary. Not somewhere I would put at the top of my list but still good.

Authentic to the core...had yummy Chile rellenos...cooked to perfection! Warm Chips and Salsa Dips were the perfect intro to a nice friends dinner. Amigos had sizzling fajitas ...huge portions but so delish there were, surprisingly, no leftovers!! The house margaritas are worth the visit alone (hard to stop at just 2!!)!! Established in 1931...there’s a reason it’s still in business with full tables!! Definitely worth the visit!!

El Coyote is a classic Mexican spot that is also a place you can call a throw back style of restaurant that you enjoy visiting. Regardless if you are a tourist or a frequent visitor you are always welcomed with a smile from the staff. Food is great, margarita's nice and smooth and neither the food or refreshments will not put a big dent into your wallet. The new and improved outdoor patio area for eating is a nice touch as well. I can't remember all of the great folks name at this place but one fantastic person that works the front desk is "Billy". He is a great at facilitating reservations lists and promptly getting you to a table.

We recently visited the El Coyote in part due to its cachet with the LA rich and famous. As you walk in signed photos are prominently displayed. It’s also the place Sharon Tate ate her last meal, so we paired this lunch with the Helter Skelter tour. You can eat indoors — very classic feel with booths and decorative Mexican items — or outdoors on the patio. There is no separate lunch menu so we shared the fish tacos and a salad. The tacos came with rice and beans. Tacos were fresh, grilled not fried, but could have used more zip, such as a lime slaw that many traditional restaurants favor. We zipped it up with cilantro and Pico de Gallo, which helped. The Mexican Caesar salad was just ok. It was a fun experience but not a foodie’s dream come true. Service was friendly. Service and atmosphere elevated the review to a 4.

but I had remembered this place as a Go-To Mexican restaurant, in my youth. all things change and so has El Coyote. formerly spirited, with inspired flavors, and very fresh tortillas. Now pretty run-of-the-mill Tex-Mex. we had carne asada- again, nothing to write home about (or TripAdvisor for that matter ;-) Margaritas were excellent! Generous size, and not too sweet. Well done on the booze!

If you're seeking great authentic Mexican food with a hometown fieel "El Coyote" is the place to go. A very courteous staff and did I not mention the thirst quenching Magaritas!

I'd eaten food catered by El Coyote at a reception a few years ago and was very excited to try the restaurant in person. I wasn't disappointed. Everything, from the atmosphere, to the service, as well as the food were very nice. I enjoyed the jalapeno corn tamales tremendously. My only complaint is the parking is limited.

I wanted to visit this place since I had heard of it for a long time. Lots of famous people have dined here including Manson victims, Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring and her friends on the night of their murders. I had the #1 combo (cheese enchilada and beef taco with rice and beans) since it was the most popular according to the waiter and menu. The sauce on the enchilada (small) was good (not spectacular) and the the beans were okay. The rice was not that flavorful and did not taste fresh. My husbands carne asada burrito was okay (taco shops usually serve better ones) but nothing to write home about. The waiter asked if we would like some guacamole with our chips when we first arrived and we said sure. After looking at the menu, I noticed that the guacamole was listed under appetizer for $10! It came in a small bowl and was very BLAND (no taste) and full of large chunks of avocado. We added salt and it was still bland. After a lot more salt it was ok at best but definitely not worth $10!!! I think waiter should have mentioned "for an additional charge" when he offered. Very disappointed and I would never go back. We are probably more critical of "Mexican" food as we are both Mexican and KNOW what good authentic Mexican food taste like. The fact that it has been around for so many years and frequented by celebrities and famous people may explain its popularity among tourists. It can't be the food because it just isn't that great!

I began eating at El Coyote at age 7, nearly 6 decades ago. I obviously have never stopped. One of LA's oldest, the menu has all of the classic dishes, and the bar is such a fun seen. Great drinks. If you visit LA and do not eat at El Coyote, then spank yourself. I do take out often too.

I just recently visited El Coyote for the second time. They've been around since 1931 and have an atmosphere that can compete against anyone! Christmas lights all over the place create a very festive experience. The staff is friendly. I'd make reservations or you're going to have a long wait. The food is excellent. I enjoyed a yummy carnitas burrito. The one unacceptable things in this reviewer's opinion is their rip-off valet parking. If you are a restaurant that has its own parking lot RIGHT THERE on site, charging for the valet to park your car two inches from your face is insulting. Why give your customers the feeling of being nickel and dimmed right off the bat. I'd understand if there wasn't a lot, and there is a valet for convenience, but this is a decision by the owners to rip off their customers, and frankly I find it bogus. It's a little less upsetting here than a place like Barone's in the valley where there is really no other option, as you can search the streets for a meter or go DEEP into the neighborhoods to try to find a space. But it'll be tough. If they do away with that, I'd change this review to a 5. Here's hoping.

It’s been around for decades, they know what there doing. Great place, rich history, that draws all types of people with a common goal - they all love MEX food. This is always a favorite when I’m visiting LA.

Lively restaurant, always busy here. I suggest making reservations. I do love the vibe- festive and love the staff wearing Mexican traditional clothes. Honestly, food & cocktails was ok but don't let that deter you from coming here. Staff is very friendly & like I mentioned, it's good vibes here.

As stated Iconic restaurant ( aided by a history of an infamous murder of its patrons) and a very cool Friday night vibe. I just want to reiterate what all the other reviews say, and say that the place is humming, lots of fun, strong margaritas, lots of reasonably priced beers, and food that is "OK". Everybody should go there once or twice a year.

Had a lovely lunch with friends at the suggestion of one of them. Since we all love Mexican food it was a great suggestion. I never knew this place was here but I’m glad I know now. I love having my food served hot and this is one of the few places that I have eaten at that actually served hot food! The tamale and chili releno was very good. It was delicious. We ate on the patio which was a nice day to do it. The free parking is adjacent to the building which is fabulous in this part of town! I’m glad we ate here and will definitely be back!!

You can not come to L.A. and not eat here! Our waiter was awesome! We were seated right away with no waiting for lunch. The food was great and we all had enough left for another meal. The history and nostalgia are enough all by themselves, and the food and staff make it a 10!!!

Great evening and great service - we are vegetarians and have had a fab evening here! 😋 defo recommend and will return again.

Went with friends and family. Very attentive waiter, excellent food (both taste and portion size!), and a great atmosphere. Would recommend!

So let's start of with the chips and salsa... Yum! Hot chips and fresh salsa with a hint of spice.. we ordered drinks and tacos and enchiladas with rice and beans.. Chocolate cake.. More drinks!! Atmosphere was romantic and dim..I loved it.. The waiter that helped us though... Not so much... He had an Sassy attitude... Besides his attitude the restaurant itself was def a thumbs up!! The food was great as well.. We also used the valet.. baby seat was also available for our guests and their little one... All in all pricing was reasonable and for quality was good..

First off, I want to say I love this establishment and the owners. I would rate them a 5, if not for the service experience. Unfortunately, they need to know what is going on behind the scenes. The food is average, but exactly what you expect and anticipate. The ambiance is kitschy and fun. We live on the other side of town so this was our first visit. The owner and her family are acquaintances so they setup our reservation. One of the strangest service experiences I can remember!~ When we arrived, there was a very large group of people waiting inside and out. We were seated immediately at a special booth that the owner had setup. We then waited for 20-30 minutes before flagging down an individual to retrieve our server (Casanova from Nicaragua as he would inform us after dinner), who quickly appeared and took our drink and appetizer order. He blamed his understaff for not taking care of us earlier (which I found odd and later dismissed as untrue). All would have been excellent, however, we NEVER saw him again until at least 90 minutes later... after our dinner was finished and we had a 30 minute visit with the owner. So, after our drinks arrived we waited another 30 minutes or so until we again had to flag down another person (mid manager) who was extremely friendly and promptly brought us a 2nd round of drinks and took our food order. The owner arrived just as our food came, ordered us a "Mexican pizza" on the house. She sat down with us for 30 minutes to chat and generously offered to buy a drink and dessert for us. Unbelievably, the Mexican pizza never arrived. After all of that, we were waiting for our check when suddenly our original server (Casanova) appears and takes a personal seat next to us. He was very friendly and asked us "to tell him about us". This would only happen in a Hollywood script. My friends were very gracious and did not rip him a new one for the his very apparent attempt to save face in light of the situation. I don't write this to screw up Casanova's livelihood. I write this so the owners are aware of the situation. Perhaps it was all unintentional and he was so busy that he just forgot about us. My intuition, however, is it was intentional for some reason and he got caught with "his pants down" by messing with the wrong clients.

Being from Texas we were craving Mexican food .... a friend recommended this place & hands down I approve. Another great recommendation was Don Cucos. We didn't have a chance to try it but if it's in your area it was highly recommended as well.

Food is excellent, I had a cheese enchilada w/lite onions plus a beef flauta. Also saw the booth where Sharon Tate ate her last meal.

After a long flight from Toronto We landed in L.A. dropped the bags off at the hotel and headed straight to El Coyote Mexican Cafe on Beverly Blvd. Just walking into this place you know you are somewhere special, somewhere with a lot of history behind it. Such a great experience, The waiter was so good as he basically told us to just let us know what we want, and he will make it happen. We don’t have many Mexican places to eat back in Canada, so for our waiter to help us out like that was unreal, so awesome. Food was amazing, margaritas even better. Go to El Coyote Cafe, get a margarita, sit back, and enjoy. Life is short, treat yourself to an amazing night at El Coyote. We will be back in September, 2016, can’t wait!

I've been going to El Coyote for years. The ambience is a lot of fun with waitresses in their ruffled skirts and Mexican decor throughout. The truth is that most of the food is average, but if you want something fantastic order Green Corn Tamales, Beans with EXTRA cheese, guacamole and corn tortillas. Butter tortilla and hold in your hand like a valley, spread Corn, hot sauce and stewed tomatoes (comes with tamales), guac, then skim cheese off beans, wrap it like a burrito or soft taco and enjoy. Get enough tortillas for at least 3 per person. Inexpensive and fantastic. Great margueritas, too.

It's just beans and rice. As far as I'm concerned Tex Mex is the same everywhere. But at El Coyote you're getting a dose of Old Los Angeles when Mexican seemed exotic. Whenever I'm in LA I have to eat here - there's something about the old school booths, the waitresses in their long flowing 'faldas', the kitchy lighting and decor and the old bar. All in all it's high quality and a fun little get away.

We arrived at 5.30 pm and were seated straight away. It was already packed but by the time we left, there was a queue out the door. Famous for being the place where Sharon Tate had her last meal, it is apparently a local favourite and with good reason I had the street tacos, which were delicious. Margaritas were also great. Careful what you order, the servings are generous. Restored my faith in the LA local cuisine considering all the fast-food places selling cliche 'Mexican' food.

Me And my friend from Los Angels bring us here saying was the best Mexican food! It’s absolutely true! The food is delicious , the best enchiladas !!!! The vibe are amazing, the restaurant style is amazing! We where serve by a guy named Alex and Roberto! Both amazing , excellent costumer service!! I will Definitely come back!!! Highly recommended!!!!!

This is not a place for true Mexican food. It is, however, a meca for Cali/Mex food. Has a good atmosphere. Neither tacos nor tamales are what I expected, but probably normal for Cali/Mex. Parking is a ripoff, but in that area they can get away with it. It's fun to try once, but I prefer more traditional cooking.

This place is iconic! But see it for what it is: a simple mexican restaurant in a great LA location with great drinks (try the Mexican Mule). The food is ok but not to-die-for great. It doesn't matter – the place is bustling and the drinks are strong. The setting and the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood feeling is quite enough to make this a place you would like to revisit for some mexican food and drinks. Easy.

Loved it! I came to LA and went looking for good Mexican food. It took me till tonight for a friend to bring me here. It's only 750mt from my apartment! Best Mexican of the fortnight. Tamales were huge as were all the portions and the prices are low. It's an icon for a reason!

I've been to the El Coyote Mexican restaurant several times - basically every time I get to visit Los Angeles. I first heard of the El Coyote when reading Vincent Bugliosi's "Helter Skelter" book about the Tate-Labianca murders by the Manson group. Apparently this is the restaurant where Shaton Tate, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring and Voytek Frikowski had their last meal in August 1969. I was stunned to find out that El Coyote is still around today (has been since the 1930's). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. The service is spot on by a host of traditionally dressed waiters and waitresses. Their margaritas are the best I've ever had. They are generous with the liquor and I can usually only have two. The food is affordably priced and delicious.

Was here about two years ago and the food was very good. The rematch was a disappointment. The food was not as good, the carne asada had very little flavor, the hot sauce tasted like ketchup. The only thing that was still as good as previous was the guacamole. The service was good and the prices reasonable.

We had a 7:30 reservation for a large group and they were not ready for us. It took a very long time to be seated and a much longer time to be served. I don't think we actually had any food until about 9:00-9:30. It was extremely noisy, but the food, margaritas and sangria were all good.

One of the best LA spots to grab Mexican food. It has been around over 85 years and the service is exceptional, as are the margaritas. Take a moment to stop by. The fajita place is great as is most everything I have ever had here!

We were looking for some dinner, and didn't now what to have, when we saw this Mexican restaurant.. Good decision the food was so good and big size portion, under 80 dollars.. And the staff was so kindly... If I come back to LA some day I would definitely visit the place again..

Good Mexican food. Very authentic sorroundings. No wifi, which was a frustration to me as a European tourist who did not want roaming charges.

Enjoyed our usual dinner and drinks for 4 on a busy night here recently, and two of us asked to take our dinners home. When only one came back to the table we asked our waiter, who seemed confused but very apologetic and said he'd check immediately. He brought back the manager who profusely apologized and explained it must have been misplaced, but asked what it was and if I'd accept another meal to take home on the house? Will always a stop during our visits for both the food and service.

El Coyote is absolutely, hands down, the BEST Mexican food I've ever had! Including while living in Mexico! The salsa and guacamole were exactly how I make them at home! Fresh and perfect! Large portions, very reasonable prices, delicious food and a festive atmosphere combine to create the ultimate dinning experience! Definitely 5 Stars!

The service is wonderful. Always friendly and in a good mood. Salsa is very good. The food is good. Parking is a nightmare.

Well, typical mexican food, maybe toned down to suit the locals but the portions are very generous. Apparently the restaurant has been around for a very long time, looks rather jaded from the outside and equally so on the inside but you may not notice. Crowded on a weekday evening, so they must be doing something good. Parking is available. Ordered a steak Fajitas, asked for added spice, waiter was not too helpful but when the order was served up, two roasted chilies were on a side plate. However the chilies, whatever they were failed to make the grade. Drinks were margaritas, I had a spicy, ok I guess next time will stay with a traditional strawberry or a standard, the latter is eight buck fifty where as the spicy was nearly twelve bucks. For three the bill was a hundred of the green backs, not bad al considered. Oh yes the waitresses wear the traditional gear but not one had a smile on their faces' ho hum, the night was cool too, maybe another day. Check out the photos

We were celebrating our friend's birthday and she really wanted to come here. The drinks were good (margaritas), the salsa excellent and plentiful, the food very good (grilled fish tacos for me - others had a burrito, fajitas, and the taco salad), and the staff incredibly helpful and attentive. The smiling owner stopped by a couple of times and she was gracious and lovely. I love the ambience of this historical place - the lights, the well-worn seats... a very fun night. Yes, the cost was on the high side but we were celebrating and it was all so special.

Food was good, i got fajitas and my friend got enchiladas. We chose this place because of the famous landmark aspect with Sharon Tate. They also have free packs of matches at the host stand, you don't see that all the time and it is a good souvenir for this historic landmark.

I have always loved visiting the El Coyote when I'm over in the area. But because it's been awhile, I decided to make a trip just to eat there. For this visit on 03/06/16, it was not super crowded when we arrived, so we were seated within 15 minutes. The brought us chips and salsa as always, while we perused the menu. I noticed they no longer carry the ostrich tacos which were my favorite, but now they have buffalo, if available. Luckily they were available because we ordered two a la carte in addition to our entrees. I ordered the combo plate which had cheese enchilada...I added chicken, pork tamale, with rice, no beans because I don't like beans of any kind. My friend ordered steak and shrimp fajitas, but the waiter screwed up the order and brought steak and chicken. Of course we didn't complain because we are always weary of the "cooks who tamper with food" when you send a plate back, so no, we never send the food back. She also had rice and beans with corn tortillas. Bith of us agrees our food was good, but the service was not as good as I remembered, especially since it was not the usual busy that I remember. The waiter never refilled our waters, and he only asked to bring me a refill on my lemonade after we asked for to go boxes for our food. He the only brought one box, so we had to ask for another, since clearly she and I wouldnt be putting our food in the same box. Also, my friend wanted to order the flan for dessert, but he didn't ask if we wanted dessert, brought our bill and said thanks, as to hurry us out. We paid our bill, still left the 20% tip despite the messed up order and hurried behavior, because thats how we were raised in our home. This is LA, people are human, they err, and at the end of the day they still have bills to pay. So...on that note, I doubt I will be rushing back to the El Coyote any time soon.

Strangely enough I find this place charming & a real dinning experience for a fun lunch or night out.Forget the narrow minded lady who owns the place. Most of the staff is lovely & embarrassed by her ignorance... Its a nice place Some good Mexican grub & drink. We can't let ignorance rule our life... Strangely enough I find this place charming & a real dinning experience for lunch, afternoon snack or dinner. A while back I was turned off by the political stance this place took turning its back on 50% of its cliental donating a large amount of money to discriminate against a part of society that make up the city of Hollywood, I decided after not going there for 2 years to return. It turned out to be a very pleasant experience & I could tell it was something that El Coyote wished every one would forget.. We can't let ignorance rule our life.. the margaritas are the best & the chips & salsa are tasty. Some items are excellent & the special plate dinners are great... Its a nice place with a very friendly 1st class staff. This is a selection of Mexican food that is just meant to be delightful & a colorful event for you to enjoy yourself.. The price is right & you get your moneys worth many times over... Its very clean & the new patio renovation is excellent.. Go & enjoy.. Forget the past. Someone just wasn't thinking. That lady is not worth losing out on a nice time out...

Our group was staying in the area and El Coyote was highly recommended to us. We ended up going to this restaurant 3 out of 5 nights! Excellent food at a reasonable price, great service and lots of atmosphere! We loved every bite and will gladly return to El Coyote on our next trip to West Hollywood!

The old school decor makes it feel as authentic as it is. The fajita's were plentiful and delicious! Our waitress was efficient and friendly. And we had a fun time drinking the margarita's!

Festive, fun venue with abundant, reasonably priced authentic Mexican cuisine, it is understandable how El Coyote has been designated the best Mexican Cafe in Los Angeles. Waitstaff is in vibrant fiesta dress, and offers good, friendly service. This is a "what's happen'n" place. With a wait to be seated due to its popularity, there's no telling who you may spot frequenting this establishment. This is where Sharon Tate enjoyed her last meal before her horrifying demise, but that aside, this is a lively, energetic restaurant, with room after room of tables. Watch your bearings if you venue to the bathrooms, it's easy to forget your route back to the table, particularly after imbibing in a delicious Margarita. Have fun!

Legendary Mexican restaurant in a city full of them. The margaritas and atmosphere are excellent, but the food is average. My daughter and her husband eat here often and love the fajitas. I was visiting and was anxious to try this place. Something different. Maybe it was what I ordered but it didn’t trip my trigger, and the service was incredibly slow the night we went. Too many options out there to settle for average food. Valet parking charge. Again, very good margaritas.

This is about the fourth time I've been here and like the previous visits, their scratch margaritas are outstanding! Strong as hell and if you have more than three, you'd better have a dd. We sat in the bar like usual and the nachos I ordered were nasty! Completely drenched in sour cream and guacamole. They were a runny mess. I should've just stuck with the steak burrito I normally get. My friend had steak tacos and he said they were good. This place is a lot of fun. The bar always has a lively crowd and you'll always hear people in here bringing up the Sharon Tate/Jay Sebring thing. Where was their table? Where did they sit when they were in the bar? Etc etc etc. Place probably looks the same now as it did in 1969. Check it out if you've never been. I still give it 4 stars because it's always been a good experience eating here before. I just know now not to order nachos!
Old L.A., decent food, great atmosphere
Established in 1931, El Coyote is a fun place to visit to experience a taste of L.A. Our waiter, Casanova, has waited tables at El Coyote for 25 years. They have a nice patio and lots of inside booths. The food is good, maybe not the best Mexican food around but the overall experience is great!
