Great Mexican food

By drdkj8 |

We went to this place a second time and even waited 30 min for a table . Was very busy the second time we went so service was a bit slow compared to the first visit a few days earlier . They start with complimentary salsa and chips . Best Mexican food , reasonably priced ! Will definitely return

Standard fare

Place was packed on Friday night but seated quickly. Service decent. Food was plentiful and of decent quality. Decor kitschy but fun. Would not rush back but would not discourage either

TWO STRIKES AND YER OUT

Originally from NYC, we've lived in Los Angeles 40+ years. During that time we've eaten in many Mexican restaurants; even trying El Coyote as one of our first experiences (some, but not many Mexican restaurants in NYC). The experience then was not good and we stayed away until last week. Upon entering there was a musty smell that should have been our first indication. Thirty years later the experience was the same. Talk about not changing. A dish smothered in sauce and melted cheese obscuring what was the entrée underneath is not appetizing. We wont be back thirty years from now.

In business since 1931, so my (unfavorable) review must be an anomaly

By LesDye |

My son lives in Korea Town and wanted to dine at El Coyote. He really liked the food, but it just wasn’t our style. We must prefer New Mexican style. They have an expansive margarita list, but all but one had sweet & sour, which is the hallmark of a inferior cocktail. Service was good and everyone had a good time.

Great Mexican Foon

It was our second time. Again we had a great experience. Even the complimentary salsa and chips were amazing, with reasonable pricing had a great dinner.

L.A.s great Mexican food

By Sierra Nevada packing |

If you familiar with Los Angeles you will know the food is great and the Service was superb. I haven’t been there since the 80s,and it is as I remember. My wife and grandson fell in love with it. The drinks are spot on. Take the family there and you won’t be disappointed.

Don't order the guac

By Felix F |

I have had better guac from walmart pre-made packs [kidding I don't eat that stuff] but having ordered the guac here, we were very disappointed at how much it looked and tasted like supermarket brand stuff ;( the drinks were just fine, but the food comes at you in like 3 minutes after you order it. How mush heart can go into that? Just not a very nice experience overall expectations were high I suppose.

Mexican Delight

While visiting family in Los Angeles we had dinner one night at El Coyote. I tried the Enchilada Herman and my wife ordered the Chicken Tacos. The entree was very good. The service was great. I would recommend eating here.

Best Mexican Food in LA

I love this place. The food is authentic and delicious and extremely well-priced. The wait staff dresses in Mexican attire and from the moment you enter the door you feel taken into another country.

Fantastic food, even Ostrich tacos!

By The_Roaming_Raven |

Yes, ostrich tacos! We usually have the ostrich tacos as an appetizer; especially if we are with friends that haven't been there before, they also have some great margaritas, the guacamole is amazing and the atmosphere is calm and serene and the owners are kind and welcoming. Definitely plan to stop by here, its near The Grove, so if you are planning on going to a movie, stop here for dinner instead of going somewhere at The Grove or plan a great family meal here as the main event and you won't be disappointed.

El Coyote Mexican Restaurant in 2017 is still the Best Mexican Cafe in Los Angeles.

By Hawaiian555 |

El Coyote Mexican Restaurant is still the best Mexican Cafe in Los Angeles. I was here in the 80's and it was good then as it is today. Love the atmosphere, the waitress ethnic Mexican costumes so colorful and attitudes of everyone here. The chips and red sauce which is served first is amazing and they will give you a refill for free of charge. Every order is good and the portions are a good size. The service is quick which we like as time was a factor in getting to a movie on time. The prices are very reasonable as well. I highly recommend El Coyote Mexican Restaura

Amazing

By Maddy A |

Found this place on Google maps while looking for restaurants close to where we are staying in LA. We both love Mexican food so thought this was for us - and we were definitely right. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the margaritas were very good! We both ordered a burrito and I swear it's the biggest burrito I've ever seen! It's so filling and really delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit, it's been going for over 80 years so they're definitely doing something right! It's got a nice atmosphere and for a Sunday evening it was quite busy - that didn't make any difference to the service speed and quality of food though!

Excellent place for good ol simple but delicious Mexican food and a scratch margarita that will kick your ...... butt!!

Iconic LA Mexican restaurant!

By Becky W |

Iconic LA Mexican restaurant! Food is good, not outstanding. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared for up to an hour wait. This restaurant is very large, so people move in and out. Not a place for lingering over a meal. Fish tacos were good, the jalapeño appetizer was too spicy for me. Recommend you go here at least once when visiting LA.

Iconic

The iconic and legendary El Cayote serves delicious and authentic Mexican food. The best Margarita in town.

World famous-good food

By JulieHungate |

If you want to have good food, see a celebrity, and drink an amazing margarita- this is your place. Come during the week, celebs are usually old school as this had it's peak in the 50s-60s? Side note for the curious- this is where Sharon Tate had her last meal

Great iconic LA restaurant

We went to el Coyote because my husband thought it would be fun (and it was) - but it also has delicious, authentic Mexican fare and yummy margaritas. Service is fast and the food is hot.

We go there a lot with my family and friends. It's an authentic Mexican restaurant with great food and a great service. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I highly recommend this place.

Love this place!

Always the best! Food, Service and atmosphere! I have been coming here sinc I was a child and have great memories of family dinners here! Now as an adult... it is still a great place for family dinners! My grown children love it too!

El Coyote is a fun family spot - casual & delicious

By @civil_gorilla |

El coyote is a LA staple for sure. We went for a fun family dinner with the kids and some old friends and it did not disappoint. Now this place has been around for a long time and their is a reason for it. Don't let the exterior look of the building make up your mind. It is not upscale dining but rather a charming, fun, colorful and festive atmosphere with large delicious portions of Cali Mex food. The starter Chips and salsa were great and the coyote platter was fantastic with really memorable tasty & tender steaks strips. I found the service to be on point and attentive. My glass did not go empty, everybody had what they needed and his timing was excellent. All in all we had a great visit. Great satisfying food in a charming atmosphere with quick service. A very comfortable family style feel with 0 pretentiousness. Thanks El Coyote. We will be back.

Truly the best margaritas in LA

By Javi M |

Food good. Scratch Margaritas: Unbelievably GREAT! Been going since 1990. Haven't stopped. My Go-To Place for the BEST Margaritas in Los Angeles. Period.

An LA institution

By LosAngelesRoadWarrio |

I enjoy this establishment because of the service and ambience. It has ample inside seating and a patio area as well as a large bar if there is a wait. This restaurant is quite busy starting Thursdays and extending through the weekend. I have casual dinners with friends here; as well as have hosted company dinners on the patio. Everyone enjoys the experience and a star sighting is not uncommon. The menu is traditional Mexican cuisine and I would suggest ordering a margarita with rocks on the side (you get more). Despite its interesting history (Sharon Tate), decor, and stiff drinks - I do feel that the quality of food falls slightly behind its peers in the area.
