Shady tactics used to try to trick tourists into ordering the most expensive food - BEWARE!

By jesseburcham |

TLDR - Sleazy tactics used to trick tourists into ordering food they don't want. Avoid this place and find somewhere else to experience the food in Little Havana. Before you read anything else, know that I am a restaurant industry worker and have been for over 20 years. I know how hard it is to run restaurants, work in restaurants, and to take care of customers inside of any restaurant. I am extremely patient because of this experience. I am likely more forgiving than the average consumer. Took a family vacation to the Keys and then made our way back up to Miami. The first thing we had to do in Miami was go to Little Havana. We wanted nothing more than an authentic Cuban sandwich. When we got to Little Havana, we stumbled on El Cristo. We went up to read the menu and were greeted by what seemed like a super friendly staff. I quickly looked at reviews online and it seemed like a good fit for us. I wish I had dug a little deeper into the Google reviews - it would have saved us a LOT of grief and money. Everything started out normal. We ordered a couple of beers and said we needed time to look at the menu. The waiter (who is mentioned in these reviews A LOT....Juan Carlos) asked if we would like still or sparkling water. Like a normal person, we wanted regular tap water. Juan Carlos failed to mention that our still water was a $5 glass bottle of water. It's not the price at all; it's the principal of the matter. Let people know in advance if you are charging for this. You are misleading tourists on purpose. If that were the only issue, this would have been a fine dinner. Juan Carlos came back with the beers and the $5 bottle of water. He asked if we wanted an appetizer. My wife ordered an appetizer but halfway through her sentence, he cut her off and began to talk about the daily specials. Weird but fine. He rattled off a better "special" appetizer that's not on the menu. At that point, he completely disregarded what we wanted and HE decided what we wanted for an appetizer. We did not know it at the time, but that's what was happening. Anyway, he then went on about a steak dinner special and how we have to try the steak (ribeye steak....of which we had ZERO intention of ordering). A few minutes pass and I start thinking more and more about the interaction with the appetizer. I decided to get up and check with Juan Carlos about what we ordered. We wanted the appetizer on the menu. I confirmed with him that we wanted the appetizer we ordered and not the special he suggested. This threw him into a bit of a fit. He goes into the kitchen to tell the cook. I understand quite a bit of spanish, and what he said was not pleasant. That's when everything changed. After about 10 minutes, the food we ordered came out. Juan Carlos, because we did not order what he suggested, threw our plates on the table. He threw the appetizer plate down and did not say a word. We were obviously waiting to order the main course but he started walking away. I grabbed his attention and said we are ready to order. He said, "ok" and look extremely annoyed. We ordered Cuban sandwiches. We literally went here to get Cuban sandwiches. Juan Carlos did not like the fact that we did not order $50 ribeye steaks and hastily grabbed our menus and huffed away with out a word. We waited about 15 minutes for the food. That's 100% fine - but the waiter did not check on us one time during that period. Beyond that, we were one of TWO tables in the entire place. The sandwiches came out. He slammed them on the table and gave us what I would call a sewing thimble's worth of ketchup for 2 orders of fries. We only ordered 1 order of fries, but I was not trying to be petty at this point. Before he stormed off, we asked for 2 extra plates. He went into the lobby and began screaming obscenities in spanish to the staff there. He was very clearly talking about us. That's honestly besides the point. We waited for about 3-4 minutes for the plates before we just made due with what we had. We were almost 100% done with our food and Juan Carlos came back with the plates and slammed them down once again. That was the last time we saw Juan Carlos. We waited a few minutes to see if he would come back to bring the check. Nothing happened. He disappeared. I walked around inside looking for him. Gone. I went up to the bar to ask for the check. Everyone was puzzled. After about 10 minutes, someone else brought the check. The check had extra beer on it we had not ordered ANd 18% gratuity added already. We are a family of 4 and the menu does not state that gratuity will be added to checks. Look at the other 1/2 star reviews here. It seems common with El Cristo. I got the beer taken off but was not going to argue about the 18%. We finally left. We shopped around Little Havana and walked past El Cristo one more time before heading to our car. We saw Juan Carlos (magically) again dealing with new customers. If El Cristo is reading this - you need to take a hard look at how you are handling your business. You are TRYING to take advantage of people. Do better. Be better. Your food is decent - make the experience match the food.

Great little restaurant!

By Jules E |

Loved it! We were recommended here by our Big Red Bus tour guide and are so glad we took his advice. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. We asked for advice as on our first visit from UK and wanted to eat as authentically as possible. I am so glad I just went with our waiters advice as I wouldn’t have chosen my meal but thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful!! Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in little havana! Great value as well!!

Calle Ocho Dining

By JimmyVillan2012 |

My wife and I went to El Cristo restaurant for a late lunch. We had the Boliche Mechado and the Bistec en cazuela. Both meals were very good. The portions were just right. The service was great. Very little wait for the meal. We had a nice time.

Perfect family experince!

Great food and great cuban Coffee! Above that the athmosphere were really nice. They really made you feel like an dear guest.

Excellent Cuban Fare

By Stephen S |

Visited this spot on Calle 8 and found it to be excellent in the quality of the food department. Portions are moderate as are prices. Service is very good but not great. Ropa Vieja, black beans, maduros, flan are all excellent.

Christ is expensive in little Havana

By Nicolas T |

Be careful, if you are a tourist, MP means market price, and can cost you very much. The shrimp, chicken and beef trio at $80 deserves an award. Our children sat down before us and asked for water, they were given a bottle of water instead of the usual jug. Tips included on the note. Food quality: very average

Good Fodd, Good Service, Good people-Watching

By Michael A |

Right in the heart of Little Havana, surrounded by cigar stores, creameries, cafes, and near Versailles, is El Cristo, a non-pretentious small family run spot, it is friendly, with reasonable prices, and good food. Try the rice and black beans, also the yucca...

Excellent

We had breakfast. Very good!! Staff efficient and food was outstanding!! Super happy we Ubered over from Miami Beach!

Yum......Amazing Authentic Cuban Food

By April H |

Stopped by on a whim and we were not disappointed. Greeted by the owner and seated. This restaurant is so clean, very refreshing. There were 2 large tour groups there, but we were attended too and we didn't wait long. Husband had the cuban sandwich and I had some beef dish with a red sauce that was so good. Fried plantains on the side...delish. Great stop for authentic food and culture and the staff was friendly and attentive. In addition, I can't have dairy and the waitress was great about checking on ingredients for me.

A decent resto in little Havana

By DonaMalaga |

We had a day in Miami before flying further on and decided to go for lunch at El Cristo. A nice place for people watching and a decent outside area for dining. The food was nice Cuban flavours but don't expect more than good average. Wine was fairly priced. Staff nice and polite but A LITTLE to fast on self-deciding that they cash paid was their tip, NO NOT, had to ask to get my change back, so we could decide what to tip. All in all okay for lunch if you want a quick feeling of this area.

Good Food. Terrible Service

By MrMiamiExplorer |

I have been to this restaurant before, and the service is usually very good. This visit however was a disappointment. The waitress (a new one I have not seen before) was terribly rude and from the moment we arrived and behaved as though it was a burden to serve us and that she did not want to be there. She could barely speak or understand English. I understand this is Little Havana, but the restaurant is located in the tourist district and is frequented more often by tourists than locals. It was a frustration just to communicate to her what we wanted to order and we had to repeat it to her a few times before she got the order right. We had to ask the waitress multiple times to bring bread as she kept forgetting. I told that waitress that we wished to order drinks as well, but she communicated she would come back and take them. 30 minutes later she was still missing. I asked another waitress to please find our waitress so we could order our drinks, which she eventually did. Though she got some of the drink orders wrong which had to be sent back. Over an hour later the food finally arrived! The food at least was good and affordable. We especially liked the pork with fried Yuca and plantains. The waitress served everything with a frown and an angry personality. The change we received back from the payment was short as well but we didn't bother bringing it up to her. Being overly generous, we still tipped her. A tasty meal, but a bad experience.

One of my favorite spots when I visit Miami.

By John L |

No trip to Miami is complete without a stop in Little Havana for a gastronomic treat like you get at El Cristo. Fresh and piping hot Cuban food at its finest. Whether you want roast pork, a Cuban sandwich, black beans and rice or just a simple Cuban coffee, this place has it all.

Authentic Cuban

By Gerry |

Authentic Cuban food, but what else would you expect in Little Havana. For those restaurant owners and managers that dis on Trip Advisor, we selected El Cristo based on the reviews we read. We stayed away from a couple other places because of their reviews. We both got a Cuban sandwich (which were both good), but also tried a couple other things including an empanada, a tamale and ceviche. Everything was good. I had to have a mojito, when in Rome...lol...it was very good, but did not warrant the $9 price that came with it. Other than the mojito, everything was reasonably priced, the decor/ ambiance was good as well. Just good food, nothing fancy....exactly what we were looking for in Little Havana.

Awesome food and service

We wanted to try some cuban food at Little Havana. We were pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian options available here. The restaurant was packed but service was quick amd efficient. Thefood was delicious. We had a vegetarian pasata and vegetarian fried rice and fried plantains. Awesome food and atmosphere.

Worst mojito ever

Happy hour 2 mojito for 14$ plus tax plus tip. Rip of. We could not even finish them. Leaves not even peeled of the branches but put with the branches in the glass.

Family of five with small kids

By pdx914 |

Not really the most kid friendly restaurant but we’re adventurous and gave it a go. Our server was great with the kids, we had an enjoyable meal lomo sol tada! I’d definitely eat here again and thank you to the staff for accommodating a family.

Best Cuban food and service you’ll get in Little Havana Miami!! You cannot go wrong in ordering. But your server will assist you and make good recommendations. Great vibe

Great food

By blkdoggy421 |

Had ordered food to go from this rest before (not for myself) and it always smelled fantastic, so decided to come in and eat. Food was excellent, service was very good. Restaurant is nice and clean, has a nice atmosphere staff is very attentive. Did find the drinks a little over priced ( $60 for a pitcher of mojitos) found that a little over, but it is a touristy area so ......... All in all it was a great experience, would go there again.

Awesome food

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

We did a large platter for 3 of meat, chicken and shrimp with 4 sides. All delicious and a malbec. Friendly service too.

Perfect Dinner, real Cuban

By Kerstin W |

I was there with a friend and we had a delicious Cuban dinner. I got the same dish (ropa vieja) prepared once by a Cuban in my hometown and decided I want to check the differences - there was none! It was sooooo good!! Also the personal was super friendly and you get cold water for free.

Friendly, great and homemade..

By Christian R |

I didn't know what to expect, but was greatly surprised by the quality of this homemade food. Might not be presented as the good, but it tastes like your grandmother would cook it. If she knows how to cook 💪

Very shady business practices

By Cynthia B |

Awful experience. When my family didn’t order all the upselling Juan Carlos tried to impose on us, his demeanor totally changed. Our plates of food were thrown on the table, we got a tiny half cup of ketchup for our two orders of fries and when we asked for extra plates when our food came, we waited 10 minutes for him to bring them to us. We ended up just eating without extra plates. He never came to check on us, and we had to get up and ask for our check twice from the bartender. A different waitress (that I wish we could have had for the whole meal) brought us our check where we found out they added 18% gratuity! Nowhere on their menu does it state that gratuity will be added. Also we discovered that the tap water we ordered was an extra $5 because it comes out of a bottle! We did not order a bottle of water and he did not warn us that it’s an extra charge. And it’s good thing we scanned over the check before we paid because of course there was an extra beer snuck onto the bill. This place is a tourist trap and I regret stumbling upon this restaurant. It put a terrible taste in my mouth about Little Havana. Luckily the food was decent, but I would never come back and I recommend everyone avoid this place like the plague!

Nice little place

By Kenn |

We had about an hour to kill before we returned to our tour. We ate here for lunch. I had the pollo asado with tostones and yuca fritas and my mom had the Cuban sandwich. Both were very good.

Yummy

By Jodi R |

I highly recommend this place. Good service and great food. We did the sampler and a few other things and they were all great. Big portions too.

Rude Servers - Poor Service

By richkilburn |

My son and I went to this restaurant for lunch and were never greeted or recognized when we entered. We eventually took our seats and waited as several servers walked around us and refused to acknowledge our presence - it wasn't busy and there were only two other tables being served. After 15 minutes of never being served, we decided to leave and took our business elsewhere. We went to the El Pub restaurant across the street. We were so glad we did. The food and service were exemplary.

Great Authentic Cuban Food !

By Cynthia K |

We went here with our family of 6 to find an authentic Cuban Sandwich in Little Havana. The servers were very friendly and attentive but speak little English - my son thought he'd ordered a "large peach mojito" and they delivered him an entire huge pitcher of mojitos ! They were very nice about it and we all laughed. The Cuban Sampler was good , decadent pork chunks but the fried yuka doesn't have much taste. The Original Cuban sandwich with steak is amazing and so is the Cristo Cuban Sandwich with ham, pork and cheese. The mojito ended up being fantastic !

A Mixed Plate at El Cristo Restaurant

By PGBDK |

While exploring the vibrant streets of Little Havana, we decided to stop by El Cristo Restaurant, drawn in by the lively atmosphere and promise of authentic Cuban cuisine. The food itself was the highlight of our visit—rich, flavorful, and everything you'd hope for when seeking a taste of Cuba. Every bite was a reminder of why Cuban food holds a special place in the hearts of food lovers. However, the experience wasn't without its downsides. The wait for our meal stretched on far longer than expected, testing the limits of our patience. When the food finally arrived, it was hard to overlook the lackluster service. The servers seemed indifferent, paying little attention to the tourists eager to enjoy the local culture, which took away from the warmth you'd expect in such a charming neighborhood. In the end, while the food won us over, the slow service and inattentive staff left us with mixed feelings. El Cristo may not make it onto our list of must-visit spots next time we're in town, but the memory of that meal will linger—if not the enthusiasm to return.

Friendly people and fabulous empanadas

By Katie K |

Stopped by to get colada and empanadas to go, and we were not disappointed. Had a lovely conversation with the owner while waiting, and we will certainly be back for our next trip.

Good fried fish dish

By Sundncr |

Looking for Cuban food and found this place in the heart of Little Havana. It is on the main strip where most of the tourists are. The restaurant has outdoor seating. I ordered fried snapper with two sides. The snapper has big and well fried with big chunks of meat to pull. It was a hearty meal. The service was good. The inside is a bit fancy, but it was such a warm and lovely day, that outside was fun to sit and people watch

Best Empanadas

By zambian75 |

Everything here was good, but the empanadas were out of this world. If you like crispy empanadas, not the soft ones, this the absolute place to go. Beef and chicken. And a terrific hot sauce to go with.

The cuban gem of Little Havana

By Hannah |

We had such a lovely dining experience at El Cristo. If you’re searching for delicious authentic Cuban food with generous portion sizes in Little Havana, this is exactly what you will get! The service was very efficient and staff were so welcoming and friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you El Cristo!

Real Cuban food.

So yummy! Waiter was awesome! We have a seafood platter, cassavas, steak fajitas, chicken with veggies, the mora rice was awesome and they had cheeseburgers for our youngest! Very reasonably priced right in the heart of Little Havana!

Good food in Little Havana

By Erin H |

My husband and I ate here the other day while walking around little Havana. I started with a glass of Sangria and my husband had a mojito. We split the croquettes (ham and cheese) to start. They were good, but not the best that I have ever had. For my lunch, I had the Cuban Sandwich. It was delicious. My husband had the pulled port with rice and beans. He enjoyed his as well.

Very good restaurant in little havana

Very good Cuban dishes and good cocktails. Cool water is served throughout the meal. Very friendly staff. Service included in the price

Nice restaurant, Exquisite food and homely and very close treatment, especially the companion LAZARO, do not hesitate to ask for it and all will go on wheels!

Excellent Cuban food!

By JohnT8642 |

My family had dinner there and the food was fabulous! Empanadas, fried yucca, tostones, picadillo, lechon asado, palomilla - all of it was great. The black beans were among the best I've ever had. The mojito and kids' lemonade were both made with fresh juices and simple syrup. I haven't been to Cuba so I can't say it was authentic but we really liked it!

Pretty good cuban food

By Estrella E |

Great service and good cuban food. Have tried several of their dishes, and all of them taste freshly made. The atmosphere is local, relaxed.

Great authentic Cuban food in Little Havana

By DBTNMinneapolis |

We were visiting Miami and were taking an afternoon stroll through Little Havana. We passed by here and it looked like a good place for a late lunch. The food was great and the service was fine. We didn't have to wait too long for the food and we were given garlic bread as an appetizer. We sat outside and were able to look at the pedestrians passing through Little Havana. All three of us ordered the ropa vieja and it was delicious! The beef was very tender and not too spicy, and the rice, beans and plantains were also good. We definitely enjoyed it and it was one of the best meals we had on our South Florida trip.

Great atmosphere and yummy food

By Debonthego |

We were in Miami and had some free time. Decided to visit the Cuban area for lunch. Stopped here as they had good reviews, outdoor seating and fun music playing. Jose was our waiter. We shared a few dishes. All the food (ropa vieja, rice and beans, plantains, Cuban sandwich) was yummy. Highly recommend.

Delicious!

By Ceames11 |

We had an excellent meal at El Cristo, and I cannot wait to go back! The place was busy at 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon, and we enjoyed the casual, relaxed vibe of the place. The food was absolutely excellent, and the service was very good. I will definitely make it a point to go back there and take out-of-towners for an authentic Cuban experience.

Just Amazing!

By jkeek27 |

Great great food! Tried Cuban food for the first time (I'm from central america) and just enjoyed it so much! The portion was big- husband had to try and finish it for me. I ordered a plate that brought about 4 different types of authentic Cuban food and all was Delicious. Waiters were extremely nice.

Great, affordable Cuban food in heart of little Havana

By Mikelemberg |

Right in the heart of Little Havana. Music playing. People watching. Cuban food deliciousness. We ate outside. Took in all of sights, sounds and tastes. The food was great and a bargain. Started with empanadas with falvorful filling and spicy hot sauce. For entries the kids had sandwiches on crispy Cuban bread. I had the lechon (Cuban pork) and my wife had grilled fish. All of it was a better than expected. Rich flavors. Throw in some Yucca fries and tamales: this wa a proper Cuban feast. All for $68. An all around great meal and experience.

Real taste of Cuba

Food is amazing staff so friendly worth a visit we went as a family and there was so much to choose from at reasonable prices

Quick Simple Breakfast

By Carley N |

Stopped in on a Sunday morning for a quick breakfast. Service was friendly and Cuban coffee was fantastic! Had some eggs with bacon and Cuban toast. Good price and lovely staff.

Cuban style food?

By Svitlana88 |

Food (some kind of stuffed chicken breast and pork fajitas) was average with good amount of veggies, Cuban style coffee was too sugary, desert from baked cheese I didn't like but child liked. Very quiet atmosphere, nice decoration with legendary (for me) Havana Club Rum (empty bottles now) made in Havana, not in Puerto Rico. Very helpful waitress Jeidys, she given us many food recommendation. What I didn't like at all that the restaurant included 18% tips in our final check and suggested to add 15% or 18% of gratuity. If they don't do that I'd leave more. I categorically against such practice.

Great Cuban lunch!

By Clare H |

My sister and I had lunch here while we were exploring Little Havana. We shared one of the appetizer platters (empanadas, yuca, and plantains) and she had a traditional Cuban sandwich and I had a roasted pork sandwich (and I indulged in a passion fruit mojito!). Everything was delicious. Would definitely go back again.

Yum yum yum!

By mama3awesomekids |

We came in for dinner. Absolutely fantastic food. Flavorful and plentiful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and very efficient. We sat by the windows looking into Calle 8 and it was so much fun to people watch. Prices are average for the area.

Cuban sandwich tasted worse than fast food

By 50Will50 |

After all the positive reviews, we looked forward to a snack at El Cristo's, but were severely disappointed. We were in Little Havana for a few hours and because we had plans for an early dinner, we just wanted to share a sandwich. The waitress seemed perturbed at our modest order and when the sandwich arrived, it was small, thin, with overcooked pork, virtually no filling at either end of the sandwich and a handful of broken potato sticks on top. Having just returned from Key West where the Cuban sandwiches are New York deli thick, with fresh carved pork and ham, we felt jipped. If you want a Cuban sandwich, try somewhere else.

Awful

By Anki B |

Terrible food, bad service, very rude waitress. Just stay away!!!!! No vegetarian alternatives. Wrong order, pre charched tip.

Tourist trap and scam, beware!

By theTiogaGuy |

We chose this restaurant due to positive reviews from Yelp and trip advisor, but found it totally a tourist trap and scam. Here is the story. We were a party of 4 with 2 adults and 2 young children and entered the empty restaurant at a bit past 11am for lunch. I ordered a seafood plate and my wife ordered beef fajitas and kids got kids meals. The waitress brought the plates but gave the fajitas to me and the "cuban seafood plate" to my wife. Ok, I dont mind having beef and my wife likes seafood, so we didn't exchange. I thought my wife was enjoying the seafood while I was using the not so good fajitas. About halfway though the meal, my wife suddenly told me that her chicken tastes so bad. What?! I thought I ordered seafood... I checked her plate carefully, the plate was full of different stuffs: beans, corn, chicken meat, and patatos, but not a single seafood. The menu clearly reads it should have fish squids etc. Okay, maybe the waitress took the wrong order... it happens sometimes, so we didn't even check with the waitress. We just want to have a lunch then leave. As I mentioned we have 2 kids with us, the restaurant was nearly empty. Multiple staffs walk past our table, but no one stoped to ask if we were ok or needed anything. Our kids didnt even get their water until they nearly finished their meals. We were left there and got forgotten. Finally, the bill came. I checked it, they put my order as seafood plate without any doubt. They also enforced a tip of 18% included in the charge. That is why we were forgotten, they don't need to serve. I was no in the mood to argue with them, so I put down the credit card. Now it came to the fishy part. The waitress came back with the receipt for me to sign, but the one with itemized charge, if you didn't pay attention when they first brought the receipts, you would assume the tips were not included and would add extra tips on top of it. What we saw this restaurant is purely a tourist trap. They tried to identify victims to play their tricks. Foreigners and busy family with young kids are their easy target. I dont know how they get good reviews, but this is not a trustworthy business.

Cuban lunch !!

By julzdafoolz11 |

This place was very nice. The service was fast and our waitress was very kind attending to us. I ordered a pan con bistec and it was very delicious. We were supposed to go to Versailles but stumbled upon this spot and it was honestly amazing. Thank you to El Cristo restaurant for their lovely service.

Expected better

By 123Amilcar |

We ended up in this restaurant when visiting Little Havana, following the recommendation of a local person after buying him a Guayabera. Food was good as they offer a dish for two person with typical Cuba food. What was not good was the Mojito I asked to be well prepared but they didn't (very very diluted).

Bad food

By Navigator168918 |

Expensive and bad food. We were last tablet in the evening and the do everything is possibile to send us away.

Yum!

By Holz64 |

We were a group of about 30 odd so we had a set menu but the staff were amazing! Great service! And the set menu gave us a chance to try things we may not have ordered otherwise. The food was delicious! And all served family style on the table. Great way to serve your groups. Highly recommended.

Very Good Cuban Food

By Jose F |

We stated with mariquitas, they were crispy, flavorful and fresh. Then my milanesa arrived....I was in Cuban food heaven. The milanesa was cooked just right, it was easy to cut (very important), tenderized and flavorful the rice was well cooked fresh the black beans were cooked well also and with the olive oil on top it added that perfect mix . Definitely will return.

Great Cuban

By robert m |

We were originally scheduled to take a foodie tour in Little Havana, but there was a tornado watch, so the guide canceled the tour. It turned out that the rain stopped and the weather cleared up, so we Ubered to LH. We ordered an app of empanadas, chicken and beef. They were really good. For lunch we ordered the sampler platter, which had pork, a tamal, rice beans, and beef. It was really good and gave us a nice sample of Cuban food. Additionally, we split a half pitcher of Mojitos, which were solid.

Authentic Little Havana

By Christine C |

I came with a group of 25! Great mojitos, delicious empanadas, wonderful palomilla, Masitas de cerdo, And bistec de pollo! Their flan is tasty! If you’re in Miami and want authentic Cuban treats stop in!! El Cristo is accommodating to couples and groups! ¡Azúcar!

Very tasty food, reasonable prices. Workers were not pushy and very Ask for Andrew, he's informative about their product.

Where's the pork?

By PamG512 |

This restaurant is located on the historic Calle 8 where Cuban is their thing. We sat outside to enjoy the view and although the sun was hot, the awning provided great shade. The service was fair. We ordered the Cuban sandwich and got mostly ham and mustard. There was very little pork at all. We have had extremely good Cuban sandwiches before so we had high expectations. However, it was not even close to what a Cuban sandwich should resemble! My husband said something about it the waitress when she picked up the plate full of leftover bread. There was no apology, the manager never spoke to us and our bill was not adjusted. What a waste of money! We've eaten at the restaurant across the street before and it was great, but wanted to try something different. Should have stuck to what we knew...

Wonderful calle ocho dining experience!

By tripping137 |

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Started with a large glass of sangria. Delicious skirt steak with a wonderful chimichurri sauce. Very nice salad and wonderful fried yucca. Also had delicious ox tails with yellow rice and beans. We were served tasty garlic bread. Dessert was tres leches cake which was excellent. Patrick was an excellent server who was very helpful with everything we ordered.

A genuine Cuban place on Calle Ocho. We went for lunch during the festival and had a really nice time. Cuban spices, imported beer and very friendly staff. Definitely recommended!

Soooo good!

I ordered the lomo saltado, it was amazing, the meat was perfectly cooked and tender, the sides were really good too and the staff was very friendly

Cuban food

By ana carolina f |

The service was quite slow, we were almost going to the kitchen ourselves to order. Food is ok, nothing special. We ordered tostones rellenos and churrasco, traditional cuban cuisine. The location is good, in the middle of Calle 8, heart of Little Havana.

Best meal in Miami!

By Matt D |

Amazing meal and service. We stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant when exploring Little Havana - and what an excellent find! We had the lovely Arnelys as our waitress who was charming and super friendly and we basically followed her suggestion of sharing the Trio de Habaneras - yum!!! It was a meat and seafood platter of beef, chicken and jumbo prawns and accompanied by black bean rice, plantain and yukka. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and shown a really good time. It’s a very unpretentious place - so casual dress. If you’re in Miami - MAKE THE TIME TO COME HERE. You won’t be disappointed. Oh - and don’t forget to wash down the meal with some Margaritas!

No, don’t do it.

No, just no. No on the food, no on the service. There are better restaurants within 25 yards of this place. Try any of them.

Little Havana restaurant

By James |

The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was ok. Empanadas were the best part. The sandwich bread was somewhat stale and the bathroom door had a handle fall off so you couldn't close it.

Waitress Needs Training

By MrMiamiExplorer |

We often come to this restaurant as we like the food, but lately things have gotten worse with each visit. Our waitress, named "Jennifer" I believe did not smile even once, and looked quite angry. I asked for bread multiple times, but she never brought it out, at one point turning her back on me and walking away while I was talking. She brought warm bottled sodas to our table with not even a glass of ice! Did she expect us to suck on the dirty glass bottles or stick a straw in it? The pork that we ordered was also the smallest portion we have ever received. Very disappointed.

Wonderful place to have lunch!

By Kirk H |

Our Miami Land and Sea tour had a brief lunch stop in Little Havana and we chose El Christo! I had the LECHON ASADO/ Juicy and tasty Roasted pulled Pork and sautéed onions and my wife had the ROPA VIEJA / Authentic Sautéed Shredded Beef with onions and green peppers garnished with red peppers and green peas. Both of thought the food was delicious and the service fantastic.

Best place to eat in Calle Ocho

By Angel S |

Best authentic Cuban restaurant in the area. Best service, Eugenio very polite and professional best waiter we’ve had in Miami. Definitely recommend.

Delicious food !!

Had lunch there and cuban cuisine was great. Kids menu was good. Staff was very helpful. Nice experience.

Comfortable Place to Stop for a Bite

By Emily H |

My family really enjoyed our lunch at El Cristo. The place was clean and well-lit by the big picture windows at the front of the restaurant. There were two waitresses working and both were very attentive and friendly. The food was great and was not overpriced. We even got complimentary bread to start with. This place seemed to be a go to lunch spot for the locals as opposed to some of the other restaurants on the street that were trying to lure tourists in so they could charge double for lunch. I would eat here again.

Great

Lily was very attentive to our big family group. Recommending us delicious food. First time having Cuban cuisine and it was great

Rip off happy hour

By Anne Stimpson |

Rip off happy hour - asked before we went in if they had happy hour they said yes! So we ordered two cocktails. Then we got the bill. £32 for two cocktails!!!! On querying the bill we were informed that happy hour was for two cocktails the same, but they didn’t tell us this before ordering. So then we had to ask for the other two cocktails that we were paying for. At this point the customer service went sour. Avoid this bar.

Quality Cuban restaurant

By Silviu Oprisan |

Cuban restaurant in Miami in the area called "Little Havana". Hospitality and kind staff and service without reproach. Tasty food and very large portions. Acceptable prices. I recommend visiting this restaurant if you come to the area

excellent food

By beetle |

We had eaten at this restaurant a few years ago while visiting Miami before heading out on a cruise, and happened upon this place while strolling through a section of Little Havana. It was a late afternoon on a Monday and my wife and I found a seat outside with no trouble, as there was only one other couple seated outside. Service was quick, the non alcoholic Mojito I had was delicious, and my wife had a lemonade which was superb. We ordered the cuban dish that had fried rice, diced ham, pork, chicken, shrimp with sweet plantains on the side. I was pleasantly stuffed when finishing my plate. Hot and tasty.

Delicious food!

By 877drj |

We were visiting Little Havana in the morning and we were looking a place to have brunch. There weren't many places open that early on a weekday morning so we ended up coming here. The place is very simple. It looks like any other diner. There weren't many people so we were seated promptly. After looking over the menu, we ordered a couple of appetizers and some sandwiches. The food came out quickly and after a few bites, we knew we picked a winner. Great food and great service! Would come back again to try other things on the menu.

Great lunch!

By Dash Howell |

El Cristo was a great find. Even though we were one of only two tables eating lunch, the server was great! It was only the second time I have had authentic Cuban food, but it was awesome. The portions are large and the beverage selection was impressive! Thanks for a great lunch and making my trip to Miami more pleasant.

This is our second visit here and we love it !! Great atmosphere. Great food. Great place. No matter what you order, you won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful food and awesome Coffee

By Andy M |

Stopped here on the way to MIA. We had Sandwiches and home made Lemonade. Wonderful tasty food with friendly service. For desert we had Coffee - Cortadito. Loved it and kept us fully awake queuing at the Airport.

Fabulous Cuban food.

By ScottsdaleDave |

We really loved this place. After being disappointed with the atmosphere at The Ball and Chain, we came to El Cristo in need of a good meal. Service was fabulous, the food was great and the overall experience was memorable.

Brief stop for a drink

By Mike48 |

Stopped for a drink and an empanada. The Cuban beer was good and the fresh lemonade was lovely However a large glass of lemonade was probably too much for the stomach and a small would have been sufficient Service was efficient but cool - no smiles here!

Pleasantly surprised!

By james lee |

We went to see what Calle Ocho had to offer. The area is pretty run down and old. This restaurant had the most people so we ventured for a drink. The place had old decor as many of the places here in this Cuban area. We ordered "Yuca con chicharones" translated cassava and fried pork which was absolutely the bomb! Made our trip to Calle ocho worthwhile. Note that parking cost is expensive in the car parks about $10 for 1 hour; $15 for 2 if you don't find parking on the street. That's the only downside to going there again.

Outstanding Taste of Havana

By Cheryl P |

This place was a recommendation and I could agree more that it was the perfect spot lunch on my first day in Miami Beach. The food was exceptional and the service was warm and welcoming. There is really nice neighborhood feel to the restaurant sitting on a busy tourist block. From the sampler to main course there was not a single thing on the plate that was not prepared with a skilled hand. A lovely treat in the middle of Little Havana.

Little Havana Gem with many choices

By Wise14u |

We had a nice lunch here. Service was great. Air conditioning. Full bar. The rice was amazing. Right in the middle of little Havana. We had the fajitas and churrasco and the meat had good flavor. It’s a great place. Credit cards accepted including American Express.

Authentic Cuban Food

By One71 |

We stopped hier for dinner while strolling around little havana, and that was a good idea. Much much better than all the better scored restaurants on this road (which are in my opinion just touristic traps). Some Cubans were eating at the restaurant too, everything was delicious. We were seating outside and pleased with really good cuban actual salsa music.

Amazing Cuban paella

By SwirlingTraveller |

We stumbled upon this restaurant while searching for a place to have our late lunch. As we walked in, we couldn't help but noticed that the restaurant was almost empty, with only 2 other customers at the bar. Feeling unsure, we took our table anyway as we were starving. After browsing through the menu, which was quite extensive, I noticed on their chalk board that they were famed for their paella. So we ordered seafood paella to share. And what a pleasant seafood paella it was! It wasn't the Spanish-styled paella that we were accustomed to, and yet we were blown away by the flavours, freshness and spiciness. Portioning was great too, as fours of us could share a plate for two. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, which was one of the best we had in Miami! I will definitely struggle to find a similar Cuban-styled paella back home, but I'll keep trying.

Disturbing

By JohnDoe727 |

Ate at the bar on Sat. Nov. 12. Watched the bartender who served us, return the bread, that he served to us, that we did not eat, but did touch (!), back into the warmer to serve other diners. Hard to believe, but we watched him do it. Should perhaps only give one star?

sitting on the street..wonderful......food poor

The food I had... bistec a la milanesa...make a pass...the breading too much.. wheres the beef..?. go to La Versailles ....the whole dish was terrible...

Quite good

Honestly, the empanadas are baked, not fried, which makes a big difference in my book! The Cuban sandwich is perfectly prepared and pressed. The flan is very tasty.

El Christo authentic Cuban restaurant

We found the food to be delicious and the service to be very friendly and prompt. Prices are comparable to the area. The freshly made lemonade was delicious.

Delicious restaurant in little havana

Super service by Yenny. The colada I ordered was perfect and the cubano was my favorite during my trip 11/10 would eat here again.

Cool place...

By pitts6534 |

really! On a hot Miami day, this is the best. Homemade food, Cuba style. The owner is in the house and it all adds up to a great place to eat. It’s also near the ‘BigBus’ stop.

Very good food, very slow service!

By Caroline L |

Our group decided to eat here on a Friday night. It was not packed but our entire meal took about 2 hours. The food was really good but everything else took painstakingly long. From the time we ordered til we got our food was probably about 1/2 hour. Then when we were finished, it took about another half hour to get the check. As others mentioned, 18% gratuity was already added and we were also charged $5 for each bottle of water we had. It really wasn’t that big of a deal. But if they picked up the service speed, this place could be great. Out of all of the mojitos we tried (and we tried a lot), this place made the best hands down. I would come back just for a mojito. (To go!)

Good, unfortunately empty!

By Dario C |

We visited Little Havana and El Cristo on Sunday evening, after having read reviews on Time Out and The Guardian. Unfortunately Calle Ocho was deserted and the restaurant only had another table so lacked atmosphere and character. Having said that, we enjoyed our dinner. We had the plantano with shrimp and the mixed plate to share. The mojito was nice, but lacked flavour and expected more for $9.00

Worst place in the area!

By Marcela D |

This place is not only terrible when it comes to food, the service is pretty bad. The waitress tried to sell us bottled water even though we asked for tap water, she did not bring us any water at all, even though the table near us got tap water as soon as they sat down. She was rude after that (I guess she was hoping her bill to be bigger by selling us 5 dollars water). Our food took forever to get to the table because it sat at the kitchen window for a while, so obviously the food was cold. Then, we asked for the check, and the waitress added an 18% tip (for a party of 4). I leave 18% customary tip always, I even leave 20% for great service. I was close to leave no tip. She is lucky she got 15%. We travel a lot, we go out to eat a lot, we don't need to be fooled into ordering additional items just because. We will never go back to this place.

Great food. Great service.

By Jared M |

Fantastic mix of traditional and modern Cuban favourites. The staff are also super friendly. Looking forward to trying the slow cooked oxtail next visit!

Pressed Cuban sandwich

By tigger2594 |

Our tour driver recommended this place as a location to get a good lunch. We luckily beat the rest of our tour in. Great air con and we ordered the pressed sandwiches which were great but there is a 25 min wait on these so beware. Cold cold water and sodas helped cook us down. Mix of people from locals and tourists A good choice.

Supposed to be the best Cuban sandwich

I went with my girlfriend and we wanted a Cuban sandwich, THEY DIDNT HAVE CUBAN SANDWICH??? We were disappointed but we got the stuffed tostones with ropa vieja it was very good !!!!!

Good Food in Little Havana

By Robin A |

We hit this place up for lunch while visiting Little Havana area. Got seated right away (party of 6 adults). Good Cuban food - very pleased. 2 people got the Cuban press sandwich (pretty good). Mom and I split a salad with goat cheese, dried cranberries, walnuts, nice dressing and main dish with several things to sample on it (seasoned ground beef, pulled pork, rice, black beans, etc.). Very filling and delicious. Service was good. Waitress was kind enough to let us pay on 3 separate checks (3 couples). You'll have to drive around to find parking in the nearby neighborhoods as it's on a very busy street. Would definitely recommend and would go back for another meal.

Taste of Cuban cuisine.

By Vishtraveller |

We wanted to try some Cuban food and hence visited this restaurant in the little Havana area. We tried some seafood. The taste was good. The staff was suggesting to go for a platter. Luckily we don’t as the portions were sizable of the ones we ordered. The palace was clean, however the service could be better.

2:00pm Lunch Visit

By Augustus V |

Good food and generous portions. The tamal was good, as was churrasco, arroz morro, and the other sides. The lemonade was very refreshing - tasted like "limon verde" - limes! The servers had just finished up with wa busy dining room (about 2:00pm) and we arrived in the middle of a lot of messy tables and folks were leaving. We were told to sit anywhere, then had to wait about 10 minutes or so before someone brought menus and waters. The servers were busy getting checks to customers and clearing dishes from empty tables, and didn't get over to us. Overall, we had a good meal, and after the initial delay, we were given good service by the staff.

Loved their Cubano Sandwich

By betsnow |

Looking to take a load off after walking around Little Havana we stopped into El Cristo for some lunch. It was a must to have Cuban food and the menu looked good. We were a group of five, three of our group ordered full meals and my hubs and I ordered sandwiches. I mean, I had to have a Cubano Sandwich at least once on this trip done right and El Cristo did not disappoint. The server recommend the Pan Con Lechon sandwich to my husband, saying it was better than the Cubano in his opinion and he did really like it a lot. The sandwiches do come with these potato sticks that are like tiny fries, so you really do not need to order fries -- although we did order a side of fries not knowing. Oddly they came out cold, a few were actually still frozen! They immediately took them back and made it right. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the prices were reasonable in my opinion all things considered in today's inflated economy. Our service was good and so was the food!

Cuban Food Great / Service could be better

By Jason L |

Wanted to eat outside, but the service was terrible (1 slow waitress for 6+ tables), so we moved inside. Much better service. Food was outstanding. The Cuban Seafood Paella was perfect!

Authentic Cuban food with great food and staff

Our guide took us to El Cristo as part of our tour for lunch, it was excellent with 8+ different items to try. We enjoyed our lunch so much we headed back for our evening meal and it didn’t dissapont. Great flavours and an excellent choice. Servers were friendly and attentive and helpful with the menu.

Tasty Cuban Food

By Paul-Sadie |

We had dinner here and had the steak dishes; one of which was the steak for a smaller appetite (Baby Churasco) but with the two sides it was still American size portions! The Mojitos were tasty and the staff very friendly explaining the dishes to us. Good value & recommended for evening meal.

Good cuban food in little Havanna

We had Lunch at El Christo and enjoyed a lot! Very good Cuban Cocktails (!) and delicious food. Real cuban dishes, very nice atmosphere and even a vegatarian dish (but not a big selection). We enjoyed!

Huge Hit!!!

By Ceames11 |

I reviewed this place a while back (5 stars, of course) saying that I couldn't wait to go back and that I would definitely make it a point to take out-of-towners here for an authentic Cuban experience. Well, just yesterday I had an opportunity to do just that. And, as expected, it was a great experience. The food here is just downright delicious. We were a group of three, and we shared a seafood platter meant to feed two to three people. It did not disappoint in any way. Prices, including drinks, are reasonable, and service was great! Absolutely love this place! I live a bit far away to make it a regular stop, but anytime I'm in the area, this is where I'll eat!

Excellent evening meal, fantastic service

By AberdeenshireTom |

When you arrive you are genuinely welcomed, greeted and shown to your table.service is first class, food is great, good choices and reasonably priced, love this place.

Horrible!

By Curiosity741864 |

The waitress was RUDE, pushy, not helpful, and ignored us. We had to ask multiple people to help us to get the cola delivered, water refilled, and then the food was Bland. Asking for boxes and the bills took 10 minutes on it's own, but there were only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant (with 3 other servers). The owner was nice, but the service and food were awful; not going back.

Delicious Cuban sandwiches

Great Cuban sandwich. Good service, Jason was friendly and attentive. Clean, nice tableware. They have outdoor and indoor seating too.

Double check that you get the correct order!!

By Eneida S |

My husband and I were on a cruise that made a stop in Miami for the day on January 23, 2018. I had done some research prior to the visit for El Cristo Restaurant and went based on the reviews. When we got off the ship we headed straight to Called 8 and walked around, eventually making our lunch stop at El Cristo Restaurant. When we first came in we were told to choose a seat and they would be with us shortly. We chose a seat and waited a little and were then greeted by a waitress who had to be told by another waitress to come to our table to take our drink order. The restaurant at that point wasn't busy so we figured she had just missed us sitting there or didn't know that we were assigned to her. I won't bother to go on service because the service this waitress provided was not good. My main concern here is what happened with our meal. My husband does not digest pork well, he hasn't had pork in years because when he does eat it, he gets really ill. He pointed at the menu and ordered BISTEC (STEAK) en Cazuela, clearly stated on the menu as steak under the beef section with white rice and black beans. The waitress came back to the table to double check that we ordered the steak in cazuela. When she brought the order out, I asked the waitress in Spanish, IS THIS STEAK? she said yes. I cook and can clearly see its not steak and asked her again, are you sure this is steak because it looked pale like chuleta (porkchop), she reassured me it was steak and my husband began to eat his meal. A few bites in my husband tells me this is not steak, the texture is different and it had a bone, and that we need to ask again. At that point i wait, and wait and wait, the waitress NEVER came back to us to even check to see how the food was or if we needed more beverages etc. I then decided to get up and walk over to another waitress to bring us more water and when she came to fill up our glasses I asked that waitress, is this steak? at first she said NO then she say my husbands reaction (you would be upset too wouldn't you?) then she said well the steak doesn't have bones, we then told her "there ARE BONES right there" and pointed them out. She then takes the plate and says she will ask the chef. UNACCEPTABLE, how can this mistake have been made we asked 3 times. They told us that they were making a steak order and bringing out shortly. We told that we didn't want a new order we just want the check so we could leave. Another woman who I believe was a manager came to the table and apologized, she stated that they would not charge us for the entire meal, which any other person would have taken up that offer but I told her to charge me everything we had consumed because we just wanted to leave that we were not there for a free meal. As we are waiting for the check another waitress comes out with the plate of steak that we had already said we didn't want. She said we can pack it to go and you can eat at home because its free. We told her that we were on a ship and unable to heat up the food even if we wanted it, we stated we just wanted the check so we could be on our. Our actual waitress finally came up to our table and apologized saying that she was new and got confused when punching in the order on the computer. The manager then said she just needs better training, we paid what we consumed and left. Here is my final thoughts and advice to all: I understand that people are new and that need to be trained, however this is not just a simple oops i pressed the wrong button. My husband got very ill over this and we were unable to enjoy the last 3 days of our cruise due to him being ill. Please be sure to double check your meal and if you think its not correct, please send it back because clearly the staff here is not trained to tell the difference between pork and steak. I am just glad it didn't turn out worse for my husband and he was able to see a doctor once when he arrived home back in NY to help him but the experience was definitely not a positive one.

Slow service, tasty food

By mdiv2001 |

We had asked around while window shopping, and this was the place that kept getting mentioned. We were seated promptly, but it did take a while to get waited on, and there was a bit of confusion about our order with some of the waitstaff. But the food was really good. Top notch empanadas, yucca fries, and tostones. My daughter's Cuban sandwich was huge and delicious. My wife's masitas cerdo was tender, flavorful, and plentiful. My ropa viejo was delightful -- I just wish there had been a bit more of it. The rice was great, but the black beans were a bit of a let down.

Wonderful breakfast....cuban coffee to die for!!

By mikekeys67 |

We ate breakfast here during our pre-cruise stay in Miami. The special was wonderful and was only surpassed by, perhaps, the best coffee any of us had ever tasted in our lives. You absolutely must try this. One of the better venues on Calle Ocho.

Great Cuban Sandwich!

We stopped at this place at the recommendation of our Hop On Hop Off tour guide and the Cuban sandwich was very good! The staff were not very friendly and we weren't sure if they even took our order but the food was worth it.

Nice place to eat in Little Havana

By Diane C |

Warm welcome by the staff and very good Cuban food. We enjoyed our diner at this typical restaurant in Little Havana, jusr right!

Missed it

By kokopuffMichigan |

We were on a tour bus after a cruise looking for a Miami meal experience Havana style. I ordered a mixed appetizer off the menu. The waitress looked perplexed but took the order. My husband ordered the steak sandwich. The waitress came back 20 minutes later with the steak sandwich and fries and telling me they no longer served that appetizer. Um, that would have been nice to know 20 minutes ago??? The steak sandwich was ok and the fries were cold. Service was slow and it was not that busy. Just a bad experience.

Loved it!!!

By melpeoples |

We visited at the recommendation of our hotel staff. The food was the best we had in Miami. All of it was great! Very friendly staff and fresh and hot food. Vaca Frita and tostones were the best we have ever had! Will definitely go again! Highly recommend if you are in Little Havana! Most authentic Cuban!

Not sure what happened this time around

By NoneReally |

Have visited a few times over the years as El Cristo was my favorite stop for a Cuban sandwich. This time, not sure what happened. 2 in my party had to excuse themselves to ...... (how to put it politely?) lose their cookies within an hour of eating here....actually while still there. Service was extremely slow although most tables empty. Not a good experience and will no longer recommend.

Location is key I suppose

By GeorgesM55 |

I dont personally enjoy posting negative reviews but after the poor experience I had here the only reason I can assume this place is still in business is the fact that its on calle ocho near the tour busses. I went there for breakfast with 2 friends we had to ask the staff for menus after waiting about 20 minutes at our table even after getting up and asking for menus and a waiter no one came to serve us after we got sick of waiting we decided to go to the bar in hope of getting some type of service since their breakfast was going to be ending soon at this point and still no service inspite of staff walking pass us. We decided to call a server again to and inform them we've been waiting to get service for almost an hour at this point and we really wanted breakfast only to be rudely informed that 15 minutes before their posted breakfast time ending they wouldn't serve us. The manager happened to walk by while we were deciding to order differently and we informed her of the situation she had the kitchen prepare whatever they had left after this whole ordeal. The server continued to give us the worse attitude possible for reporting to the manager, we received no refills on our waters inspite of numerous staff walking pass us and the food wasnt to great, Over all a terrible experience and never going back again.

In search for a Cuban Food

By rudolfhorak1975 |

As I continue to explore my new home, Miami Florida, I set out for Little Havana. First, I would advise on taking a taxi or Uber, because parking is not cheap in this area. I ventured to the area to understand how cigars are made and to learn more about them. For that google Cigar tour under b&b. After that I wanted some Cuban cuisine. El Cristo was recommended to me by the locals. The restaurant features outdoor and in door dining. There is a big menu right outside so you can see if this is something that you want to try. The menu is easy to read with description of each dish. If you are like me and don't speak Spanish, no worry the staff is very helpful at helping you find what you would like. The drinks are great, the plate was filling. My meal came to $22 and I left satisfied.

Delicious food and great service!

By NellyNelly1102 |

My family and I ate lunch here while on a walking tour of Little Havana. During the tour we got to stop for a meal at El Cristo and try several different dishes. We were very impressed! Before this the only Cuban cuisine we had ever had fried plantains and traditional Cuban pork. We loved the fried yuca and every food served. We would have gone back again if we had more time during our trip. Highly recommend for an authentic Cuban cuisine

Good food, good fun

By pthomas156 |

El Cristo is a reliably excellent choice for Cuban food in the plethora of restaurants on Calle Ocho. Miami Beach locals, we take guests here when visiting Little Havana. If you like action, get a seat on the sidewalk for people watching. Otherwise try the terrace on the side, which can be quiet for conversation (or the music speaker can be turned up too loud). The Mojitos are wonderful., And it’s a good place to try something Cuban that you’ve never had before. If you have kids or just don’t drink, the tropical smoothies are fun.

Horrible service with cheating prices

By Rufat Zelimkanovich |

I am always honest with my reviews. Never puy my personal ambitions in front. This case, I never faced in my life. We been there with two families, will ask each individual to put the review. Long story short, I ordered the most horrible chicken Vaca Frita De Pollo , probably you nedd to swap you chief. That is not the major problem with this place. #2 problem I figured right now, they charged me for 4 drinks (3 Pina Colada and one Mojoto) $9 for each, yes, sounds not bad, but I requested all with no alcohol, but they charged me as a regular one. I need my money back! #3 problem, final one. The waiter, who called her self "I am a manager" , namr Jeidy, she was bullying me, cause I was giving her $15 tips instead of $18... Can you imagine. She was saying:" What is wrong, it is a state regulations to give minimum 15% tips..." Then when I tried to explain, she said, nevermind, give whatever you want (like shut up). That is a story

Mild not spicy.

Better than AUTHENTIC Cuban food!

By Noroto |

We love to visit Miami periodically at least every two to three years. Wish we could Ho more often but that is not feasible since we live in far west Texas. We have eaten at other Cuban restaurants in the city before but never on Calle 8, which has some of the best authentic Cuban eateries. We Googled Cuban restaurants and took a chance on this one. We did not regret it one bit. The service was exceptional. Our waitress took the time to answer all our questions and even made some suggestions from the menu, which is quite extensive from simple sandwiches to elaborate dishes. My husband ordered the original Cuban sandwich and loved it. I myself ordered the Paella and it was superb. Both dishes were plentiful. I actually shared the paella with my teen daughter as it was so much. The place is not super fancy but nice enough to enjoy a nice lunch or evening dinner. The location is the best of all. Being at the center of the Cuban neighborhood -Calle ocho- it's sorry dead by other nice places as well as great Cuban coffee houses and ice cream shops as well as a theatre down the street. Overall a great experience. Glad we took a chance.

Veritable "I shall return" Cuban Cuisine experience

By RagdeEdgar |

"Ropa vieja" is not foul smelling old clothing like our scared five-year old grandson warned. Ropa vieja is a standard of Cuban kitchens not only in the Caribbean island but all over the planet. Rice, black beans, and sweet plaintains are the mainstay companions. Be creative if you so wish. This restaurant is a safe bet. I had a mahi mahi on garlic, with a pair of Hatuey beers. Btw, our grandson had breaded chicken (nuggets) and fries that he enjoyed to the fullest. In Calle 8 you are free to walk around and check thematic bars along with the delightful Cuban music.

Was simple, great tasting, easy restaurant. Bring your Spanish skills. Good eats. Try the rice, black beans and Yuca con MOJO.

Victims of Popular Success!

Yikes. Disastro. 4 of us grabbed lunch here on a busy saturday recently, and they were packed. I felt badly for the servers who were run off their feet, they seem nice and they try, but mamma mia what a place. Was it a typical saturday afternoon? No idea....but I'd like to hope it wasn't because they won't get repeat business if it was. After a good time waiting for a server to be freed yp, we had all decided on a sandwich and drinks...but.. no sandwiches available said the server....kitchen too busy. OK...after a while longer, we ordered various hot plates of food which took a very long while to arrive....not bad...decent grilled fish, chicken, shrimp etc....we all thought the food was a bit sparse, but tasty. We also ordered a lemonade pitcher on the servers recomendation, which was a little sweet and cloying frankly, but what she didn't tell us is it's $26! Yikes. Thats a bit much. 26? Really? My oh my....they'd best rethink their pricing, get more staff, and actually honor the menu. Disastro!

Good cuban food in little Havanna

We had Lunch at El Christo and enjoyed a lot! Very good Cuban Cocktails (!) and delicious food. Real cuban dishes, very nice atmosphere and even a vegatarian dish (but not a big selection). We enjoyed!

Delicious paella

By Shane Z |

We ordered the Cuban sample appetizer and shared a wonderful paella with plantains! Not the swankiest place, but great food and a fun location.

Nice to sit outside

Three of us enjoyed dinner outside watching the hustle and butle of Miami while having a very nice dinner. Our waitress Cynthia was helpful in helping us select a wine.

Paella was not crunchy on bottom and did not have much seafood

By Yie-Ming |

Looked forward to eating in the famous El Cristo of Little Havana. Pictures of the Seafood Paella had my mouth watering...but the actual dish was a bit disappointing with the calamari and shrimp pretty tasteless. Only the fish had great fresh flavor. The rice was wet and soggy without a crispy crust on the bottom. The dish was also quite pricey but is to be shared by two people. Thinking that at least the expresso would be good, I was mistaken.

Really wanted to like but....

El Cristo-Cuban food in the heart of Little Havana. probably more like 2.5. Chose this place for it’s well reviewed Cuban sandwiches. Neighborhood and restaurant extremely busy. Got an outdoor table and waited for our waitress to stop by. Everything took a while during our visit. But the servers were very good at keeping us informed on our meal. Wife ordered a traditional Cuban sandwich-ham, roast pork, swiss, mustard, and dill pickle. The sandwich was under grilled, still tasty if a bit heavy on the mustard. I chose a roasted pork sandwich with grilled onions and a house sauce. Unfortunately it lacked flavor, many onions, and the pork was dry and bland. We shared each sandwich and decided that the Cuban sandwiches we can get at home are just as good, possibly even better. I’d give them another try on a less busy day.

Great food

Awesome cuban coffee, empandas, drinks, and flan. Excellent service just made it all better. Too bad we are only here for a day.

So So

Ate here at the recommendation of a tour I was on. I had the empanada's and croquettes. The food was excellent. The only downside I would say was the waitress was not that attentive. It took a long time to get my check. Also, be aware that you need to spend $10 to use a credit card. There was nothing I could find showing that.

Authentic Cuban Food at Calle Ocho

By Lars L |

Overall great food and the kind of Cuban experience you'd like to have in Little Havanna. Sitting outside at Calle Ocho was very nice. Also, fair prices.

Terrific experience and great meal!

Everything I hoped the experience would be: authentic and delicious. PICADERA CUBANA - Cuban Sampler Combination of Fried yuca, tamal, pork chunks, and green plantains. With garlic and cilantro sauce. Original mojito was perfecto! p.s. Wish we'd had time to explore little Havana and Ocho (8) street since the night was just getting started when we left the restaurant (early morning flight.) Be well and stay curious, Lipstick Warriors

Stopped here on recommendation of the Hop on Hop off guide in Little Havana for lunch and loved the Cuban sandwiches. Near Azucar ice cream (for dessert after).

Great local food

We stopped in here for dinner while we were exploring Little Havana. The location was great. Right where the action is. The staff was friendly and service was good. Waiter made recommendations and we liked his suggestions. Food was fresh and filling. Reasonably priced.

We love this place!

We live north of Atlanta. My Dad put Little Havana on his bucket list and for his 90th birthday we made it happen. I chose this restaurant based on reviews. What a wonderful late lunch experience. The inside seating looks lovely for those hotter days, but we opted for a covered outdoor table. Gorgeous mural art was our view. We sampled frozen drinks, a Cuban sandwich and chicken breast with yellow rice and black beans. Also tried roasted pork. All of it delicious. The music was lively and the service was great. We were all very happy. Plus, Domino Park is close by! And fun shops. Don’t miss it.
