Great Mexican food.

By David W |

On our last night in Portland we were looking for an authentic Mexican meal and followed our hotel desks recommendation and tried El Indio. They had a dinner special two combo plates for $14.95 so it was a great price and the margaritas were very good as well.

Excellent first visit

By Pat R |

Used my trusty app here to lead me to great food and it did. Pricing is fair. Food was awesome. We had no issues and 3 of us ate lunch for $30. Very pleased with the service and taste of all. Truly authentic mexican.

Delicious!

I'm back in NE Portland now and I had forgot about El Indio! I have ordered the Nachos and Tamale twice, and the sauce on the Tamale is so delicious! Excellent service, always kind and professional and quick service. I will be visiting here as much as I can!

Good Food but Great Service

By Tall66 |

Tried out El Indio and the food was your basic, hardy Mexican fare that was good, but not outstanding. What was great was the service and the very friendly staff. Would I go again, yes. Would I go out of my way to eat here again, no.

Good Mexican Restaurant

Met at El Indio with a group of friends. The food was good and the staff was very accommodating. It was 100 degrees on that day, but the restaurant was very cool. That was a relief. The prices were average, but I thought the margaritas were a bit pricey, especially for happy hour.

Excellent food, a great find.

We were informed about this restaurant by a local resident. The food is excellent. Their two for one specials are a good find in the Portland area.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Outer Northeast

By Amy K |

I've been dining here for over 15 years. The lounge has a large atrium and the restaurant section is bright and festive, large groups of families often dine here on the weekends. Not a spot for foodies, this is traditional fare with great service.

Very good traditional Mexican fare

By Sitewatcher |

The traditional foods are delicious - flautas, fajitas, tacos, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas. The food is very fresh. The space is large enough for big groups, and accommodated our group of 14 easily. We had very good service, and the meals were made to order, with no mistakes. It is easy for vegetarians to find options here. There were a couple of margaritas ordered, which got rave reviews. For our group the downside wasn't the food, it was that this restaurant is large and flat inside, but despite the wide ramp up to the doors, they haven't yet done a "cut-out" for wheelchairs. And there is only one real step. So it can be managed, but doesn't make the person in the chair comfortable.

Friday night dinner and drinks

Boated in every which way. Family, friends, solo, business. Prefect.

I completely and totally love El Indio more than any other place! I've been going to this restaurant since I was in my mommies tiny and now same with my daughter and her daddy. Wouldn't change a thong about this place. Delicious. The picture I'm posting, was from 1997 and it's me and my brothers in the background. Love them!

I always feel like family!

By ConcreteEric |

I have enjoyed El Indio with my family for over 10 years. The food is really good and the service is very personal. I always enjoy interactions with the staff and they certainly enhance the dinning experience. For a Mexican food place, they do chicken right. It is always cooked perfectly not to be dried out so anything with chicken is a good choice. FYI, they will be closed the week of September 23, 2013 as they remodel their kitchen.

Nothing special

By slc690 |

Went there for a work-related gathering. Food was OK. Others enjoyed their food more than I did -- they had ordered more 'traditional' entrees - felt the side items (beans, rice) were good. I ordered their El Indio salad, which looked great in the picture on the menu. When it arrived, however... no avocado, smaller than it looked in the picture, chicken was not very flavorful. On the positive side, the chips were good and the guacamole that we ordered was very fresh. Seems you may need to stick with 'traditional' Mexican fare. Service was fine -- server was helpful and courteous. The atmosphere was also just 'OK.' I made the mistake of looking up at the ceiling light, over our table. Dusty, spider webs.... kinda made me wonder what the rest of the restaurant (including the kitchen) looked like. Overall -- it was OK for a quick lunch with co-workers, but I wouldn't make a special effort to get there again.

Can't say enough good things!

I don't get to Portland too often but when I do this is a must food stop! I love Mexican food and my neck of the woods does not do it well. When I visit Portland this is the one place I for sure must eat at. I have typically not strayed from the spinach and mushroom burrito but it's because it's so FANTASTIC! The sides, the chips, the salsas, YUM. Go and you will not be sorry.

OMG!

By Katiekatt |

My husband's dinner arrived so cold the cheese wasn't even melted. He sent it back and it came back so hot he now has a blister on his lip. The server was the only saving grace. The only comsistant thing are the drinks.

Don’t waste your time or money, keep driving!

By Sarah |

The customer service was terrible and the food was expensive and horrible! The waitress took our order and never came back. There was no salt on the table and they got my husband’s order wrong. After 10 minutes of sitting there waiting I had to find someone. The new owners ruined it!

great place to dine

By Toni P |

Really a great place to east if you enjoy Mexican food! The have a bar that makes really tasty drinks, and there service is fast & friendly!

Large serving of soup.

By Jonna H |

I had a very large bowl of Tortilla soup. It has an off flavor so jot my favorite. They have horchata which is a retreat that we enjoy.

Great food again

By Pat R |

I definitely prefer the lunch crowd. We've came twice at night and there has been that one loud table of idiots both times. I know they can't control this portion. Our waitress was good, knowledgeable about menu and attentive to our needs. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was nice and hot. Taste was wonderful. A must stop for true authentic Mexican food.

terrible service and less than mediocre food

By Chris T |

Please find ANYWHERE else but this to eat! It's over priced (and it'll be even more when you get the check and they'll have multiple reasons why) the service is terrible, and the dining area is dirty enough that it makes me wonder about the kitchen... After coming here for years, it seems like something has changed and definitely for the worst.... I'll never come back here, or any place that is in any way affiliated with them...

Love the bacon wrapped shrimp

By TanaKae F |

I don't eat bacon. It hates me. But they make a great bacon wrapped shrimp that is to die for. I just pull the bacon of give it to my husband and eat the flavored shrimp. It's amazing. Their drinks are also very good here. I have been here several times and never once have I had a bad dish or drink.

Mexican Pizza

By Lois G |

The best!! I get mine with chicken. It is always tender. My husband always gets the best cheese and onion enchiladas. Yum!!

Yuck!!!!!

By Celia |

Super awful!! Shrimp cocktail warm, thin watery sauce, no flavor. Horrible!!! Taco fell apart, red beef, horrid taste! Cheese not melted in cheese enchilada. Don't waste your money!!!

Great Family Restaurant

By kyman55k |

Been going here for more than a decade and they are consistent in their good food and service. They are very quick at accommodating large parties or small. Great spot for any special occasion that isn't to be intimate, can be loud.

Good food, what you want

By Drummer_geek |

Parking is a bit thin, unless you park across the street, but once inside they have a nice atmosphere and great food.

Ummmm, Oh So Good!

By Larry W |

I have been eating here for over 20 years and never had a bad meal. Over those years the food and service have been consistent and enjoyable. While the staff and family have aged, the food is always fresh and tasty. Their salsa is made daily with no preservatives. (I found that out when I took some home and let it set in the fridge for a couple of days.) Now my mouth is watering just writing this. Time for El Indio.

Gresham location = expensive disappointment

By akcmommy5 |

I took my 3 children with me to this restaurant today. 2 of the 4 meals we ordered were cooked incorrectly. Both were significantly overcooked and over salted. Even though we sent one meal back, we were still charged for it. Because my 9 year old daughter ate one of the sides prior to finding the main portion the texture of beef jerky and extremely salty, the establishment refused to remove the charge from the bill. We waited an hour for our food to arrive and another half hour for the bill. Don't waste your time at this restaurant. It will be an expensive disappointment.

Food was good, open for late hours

By Arnab N |

The food was good like most of the Mexican restaurants. The shop is open for long hours and the service was very encouraging. The quantity of food was so much, that i had to pack most of the food for home.

¡Me encanta! - Love it!

By Stephanie P |

This is my favorite restaurant! You and a friend can enjoy a party-like atmosphere, have all you can eat chips and salsa (btw, the salsa is incredible especially if you like onions, garlic, and tapatìo!) and a chicken Mexican Pizza (with sour cream and guacamole) for less than $10. There is always a daily drink special though which I suggest. The Consuela is a great couples drink. They sing on your birthday. The servers there make you feel like family. They are even known to surprise you with a dessert on special occasions. Try the fried ice cream!

By DJ Cowboy |

Meanwhile On a Cold March Night Our Hero Foodie and Legend DJ Cowboy finds himself with friends and a hankering for some Mexican food also just happened to look up and we were in front of El Indio in Portland Oregon so of course starving for some yummy Mexican food walked in and had a great experience with fun wait staff and yummy food and of course tasty drinks whoohoo 👍🤘😎🤠

Superb Food!

By KendianaJones |

A little pricier than most Mexican restaurants, but very good food and a good drink. Only complaint is that they seated us in a corner when all of the window booths were empty. We moved. :-)

Great Value, Great Food!

By Laura B |

The food is fab and the drinks even better. You can eat a dinner for $8 or $18 depending on how hungry you are and if you want to bring home leftovers. We always eat in the bar. Fun place and fun staff!

Wonderful food, service and location

By Sandra S |

Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and gave high ratings for the service, food options, preparation and taste, and really appreciated the location just about 1 1/2 miles from our hotel. We would definitely return and very likely will as we spend a fair amount of time in Gresham.

best mexican food in town

By Megan H |

The food is amazing and the staff treats you like family. Take out orders are taken with care and serve up large portions. Love this place!

Authentic Mexican food and fun!

By Googlegyrl503 |

The Caszuela is the best drink in a bowl! Add a splash of soda for that extra wow factor! The nachos are my go to meal and for a cute date.... Ask for 1 drink, 2 straws and 1 nacho! It's plenty!

Mixed results

By srohrb |

Online prices were different when we previously ordered from them. We were told they had lost access to their password. This time when ordering on phone, one order was missed completely. When we arrived, we were told this was our fault as person on the phone verified the order before hanging up. Food is good. Just haven't had a good experience ordering takeout so far.

VIP all the way...

By Teri S |

I've been going to this place for years but what keeps me coming back are the VIP Margarita's. 4 top shelf liquors with freshed sqeezed lime juice. No phoney mixers or sweet and sour the real handmade stuff. Now, you might want to sit down as these VIP's come with a heafty price tag but well they are worth it. My favorite thing on the menu is a Spinach Enchalada plus add chicken or shrimp....fabulous! Also the lunch menu has smaller portions and an exceptional value. My husband and I split an entree for 10 bucks and our bill was over $60 after a couple VIP's each. We never mind paying the price not to mention the service is the best for any Mexican place in town. Enjoy!

Best green chili verde burritos I've ever had

By Ken O |

This is one of our local hangouts. The chips and salsa never stop coming (unless you say 'no mas.' My wife loves the chicken fajitas, but my preference is their green chili burros. I think this is their best dish and it's huge. Go ala carte if you want to sleep tonight! Good Cadillac Margaritas as well.

Excellent food and margaritas.

By Joyflnoise |

We chose this location because it was highly recommended by our Uber driver. He didn’t let us down. We walked in and immediately were greeted by a friendly staff. They seated us and brought us chips and salsa quickly. The salsa was different tasting from what we were used to, but we really liked it. We ordered house margaritas with their bean dip. They were both amazing. Their service here was top notch. I ordered the El Indio salad with grilled chicken. Hubby ordered the carne asada special. Everything was hot and fresh, tasty, and of good value. We were told that El Indio was hands down the best Mexican Restaurant in the area and we are believers. Most of all we were very happy with our entire dining experience.

Great Mexican food

By Kaitipoo |

Love the food here. Had my birthday party here one year and they had no trouble accommodating me and all my friends. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants.

Very bad service

By Jaime A R |

the service is terrible and I do't know about the food taste because I attended at the bar behaved very rude with no respect

20 Years of Good Food

By Kamigami |

Good food, consistent service and comfortable atmosphere. Staff is friendly and attentive. Not an American owned restaurant trying to be Mexican. Salsa is made fresh daily with no preservatives. Fajitas are served sizzling on cast iron, with onions and green peppers well carmelized. Chicken is well marinated in their chef's own private marinade. In 20+ years I've never had a bad meal. Generous portions at good prices.
