You can certainly say I'm a fan of El Nuevo. They have great portions of flavorful Mexican food of all varieties. El Nuevo doesn't just have the usual assortment of tacos and burritos but other Mexican plates and unique enchiladas. Personally, I enjoy the chorizo enchilada with salsa verde. The one downside about El Nuevo is it can be a little more pricey than your average Mexican restaurant, although I think the portions and quality of food somewhat make up for that. El Nuevo usually has a decent crowd in there, so I suggest trying to make a reservation, although I have had good luck just walking in. Also, El Nuevo has various vegetarian and vegan options for those in your life who do not eat meat. If you find yourself in Lakeview and looking for some filling Mexican plates, look no further than El Nuevo.

We were visiting the city and stopped by as they were closing for the night. They let us stay and made burritos and FRESH guacamole for us to take back to hotel. Have gone 3 more times and love it every time I go. Lively neighborhood place with very good food and service. Will be back in Chicago next week...guess where I'll be going??

Been here a number of times, the regular host seems not to understand English, as has messed-up my table requests more than twice. The saving grace here are the bartenders who really truly know how to mix a potent and delicious drink—two margaritas will have you swooning over the meal. And that, friends, is guaranteed to be over-cooked, whether it's porco, pollo, or pescado. Have yet to experience a dish here that isn't near-burnt, ie dried-out to the max. The appetizers are just fine, so I do not really understand why the cooks uniformly ruin such well-conceived, well-seasoned, well-selected entrées. Anybody know?

Really good food, friendly service, good value. Ate there a couple of times whilst staying locally. Recommended.

I like Mexican food that shows off a little style. This food was really good. I'd never even heard of a green mole before, but the waiter assured me it would be worth it. He was right. Everything tasted fresh with just the right amount (for me anyway) of spice. The restaurant itself was very neat. I will admit I'm not sure my teenagers felt the same way about it (they were looking for more run of the mill Mexican fare), but still, everyone left satisfied. The deserts were very good. The house margarita, with my requested modification for blanco tequila, was also very good (what can I say, I'm somewhat of a margarita snob). I highly recommend this restaurant and will try to go back the next time I'm in Chicago..

Authentic decor and great service. Food was fantastic! The back patio was cool and comfortable. Our server, Alfredo, was the best.

Four star eats with 1 star service. Showed up before 7:00 on a Saturday night and was told the wait would be 20 minutes. 20. After 50 minutes we went back to the host who said it was going to be just a short time longer. He was waiting on three tables to clear right next to us. I had been watching these tables and observed that 2 had just ordered desert and the third was working on a carafe of margarita. We were finally seated 90+ minutes into our stay after several 2-tops, which could have been combined into a 4, had been seated. For our wait we got a dismissive apology and no recompense. The bar tender at least got us some chips and salsa during the interminable wait. After we asked of course. No manager bothered to apologize and the host, well words fail me. You don't tell a diner the wait is 20 minutes then seat them 90+ minutes later. While telling them that 20 was just the average. Incredibly unprofessional. Shame really because the food was quite good. The chips tasted store bought but the salsa and margaritas were tasty. We had pork, tacos and skirt stake and I don't have any complaints about the dishes. I'd say maybe 3.5 to 4 stars on the food. A one at best on the service. Not sure the service warrants a return trip.

This place is always busy. Must be the drinks? Their food is not good as far as Mexican food, it lacks flavor and it has an odd aftertaste. I'm thinking it's the oil they use to cook? Most mexican food has a particular "party of flavors" in the mouth but this place has a boring flat taste. I've been to this place three times and tried a different dish each time. However they were no different in taste.

The food was exceptional and pomegranate margaritas are perfectly refreshing! We had chicken mole enchiladas and pork tacos. Fresh, flavorful, authentic!

Walked here for lunch while visiting friends in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago....what a treat! Chips and salsa were great, the salsa was very fresh and had a little heat. We had Pork Tamale, Chimichanga, and Steak Tacos all were excellent. Would happily go back to this place, Mexican is one our favorites!

While visiting Chicago for our oldest grandchilds college graduation, we followed Trip Advisors advice and ate with our family at El Nuevo Mexicano. Out of this world food whether salmon, flank steak or tilapia dishes. With great sangria, very capable service and charming decor, all of us loved the place. Wish they would open a Boston location!

This restaurant serves traditional fresh Mexican food. The house margaritas are outstanding and the service is impeccable. We return again and again. Everyone that we have taken as guests also returns. I have never had a complaint about the food. It is all freshly prepared. Their poblano mole is to die for. Chips are always fresh and their salsa is really good. Make reservations to be sure you get a table. There is a small outside area for summer dining. They also serve lunch and I frequently go in just to get my Mexican fix!

My husband saw a review of this restaurant on "Check, Please!" and suggested we give it a try. We are both vegetarians and were happy to see options for vegans. I ordered enchiladas and they were quite tasty. I do recommend for Mexican with a fresh twist!

The food and service here was good. Delicious Margaritas. We tried a varied assortment of dishes and they were all tasty. The crispy tortilla chips with salsa they serve were the highlight. Sitting on the back patio was really nice, too. If in the neighborhood, it's worth a try.

Our favorite Mexican Restaurant - the staff is always friendly, helpful and we love the Shrimp al Mojo de Ajo. Their new interior styling looks great - copper ceilings and interesting artwork! Our group of 6 left happy and full! We'll be back again soon! Keep those margaritas coming!

Our party of three all agreed that the food was as excellent as the setting. And our server was wonderful, as well. We found the hostess a little confusing after seating us (and our drinks were already served) when she asked us if we had reservations. We didn't and then there was obvious upset on her part....we actually offered to leave but she unconvincingly refused our offer. As well, it took a good 15 minutes before our waiter picked up our credit card in our attempts to pay (for our rather pricey meals). If you make a reservation you are likely to have a better experience than we did.

There is a very, nice patio as well as indoor seating. The chips and guacamole were excellent. We had tacos, enchiladas (mole) and fajitas. The service was fast and accurate. Very nice experience.

Service is leisurely even on a busy Saturday night. Variety of margaritas'; customized and fresh guacamole...this is all before the entrees. Customizable enchiladas, carne asada, variety of fish entrees, and innovative vegetarian options, Don't miss this friendly place.

Have passed by this place many times and finally stopped in. Glad that I did. Service here is very friendly. Menu is more or less the typical Mexican menu in Chicago, but with a few more traditional options. Everything is prepared well and tastes great. Great margarita options, too.

The service and food are outstanding. The house margaritas are very good as are the mojitos. My husband had the pork with a chipotle sauce that was to die for. I order the beef with the enchilada. The mole sauce with the enchilada was some of the best I have ever had and the beef was grilled to medium rare just as I asked. The portions are large and we always take home the leftovers, it is enough for a meal the next day. Yippee, no cooking! The chips and salsa are fresh and a nice start to the meal. I have also been to the restaurant for lunch. We spent three hours on the patio, it was just two girlfriends chatting. They continued to bring water, iced tea, etc. and checked on us until we finally left. Oh, and the food was great.

We went here after a show, and enjoyed a well made margarita first. They bring crisp, good chips and salsa. We ordered the tamale appetizer. Very fresh and pretty presentation. I ordered the sizzling, vegan fajitas, with vegan meat and cheese. My husband ordered the enchiladas. Both dishes were fresh, great tasting, and even had mango and greens salad with the meals. We took some home, and ordered the soppapias. Crisp and delicious dessert. We will be back! Great neighborhood restaurant with fabulous servers. 5 star waitstaff.

I am vegan and my husband is not. We both love authentic Mexican food, and so El Nuevo makes us both happy. The rooms are pretty and comfortable. They have a very pleasant outdoor patio for warm weather--did I mention the best mango margaritas in the world?

This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is outstanding and the portions generous. We have tried several entrees and not one has been disappointing. The fajitas are particularly good for those who love them and there are many traditional Mexican dishes that you don't always see in other restaurants. The food is freshly prepared. The guacamole is yummy and the chips and salsa are always fresh. Make a reservation, the restaurant can be busy. The outdoor patio is great on a nice evening and the restaurant is also open for lunch. Their mixed drinks, Mojitos and Margaritas are great. Enjoy!

This place has it all. Excellent customer service and delicious authentic food. We were seated right away and our waiter Alejandro was phenomenal. This place was packed and I feel the staff did a wonderful job getting the drinks and food out quickly. Best pineapple mojito ever. Tried the pastor enchiladas and combination fajitas. Cant beat it. Fresh, authentic and great staff!!!

We went there for my wife's birthday with few of her friends. Seems it is something common in US but even though we reserved a table and confirmed we will be there by 7pm, the table was not ready when we arrived. We got a table at 7.30! I hate that about US restaurant! The food was however very good. Had a strawberry margarita first, which was really nice. Then I had some quesadilla chicken. Looks more kind of tacos than quesadilla but it was good. I finally had fajitas mix with beef, chicken and shrimps. Shrimps did not have a lot of taste, i guess there were frozen shrimp. But the beef and chicken were good. I would then not advise someone to pick up a shrimp dish...

Standard Mexican fare, but always with a little twist. Good size portions, great margaritas, friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Small, cozy restaurant in a great neighborhood. Street parking only. They can accommodate a large family gathering or a small intimate dinner. Our third trip there and will return on our next Chicago visit. Everything that we have tried on the menu is very good.

This is an excellent Mexican restaurant right in Lakeview. Usually, I head to Pilsen or somewhere on the South Side for good and authentic Mexican, but wanted to try something new and wasn't in the mood to drive. I chose El Nuevo Mexicano after looking at the reviews posted here and was delightfully surprised! Any time someone calls a Mexican restaurant "authentic", I'm not always convinced, but this place was approved as authentic by my part-Mexican girlfriend and was wonderful! The menu has a nice blend of very authentic and unique dishes as well as dishes you would come to expect at a Mexican place like tacos, etc. The food was great, and the presentation was wonderful. It's a great spot whether or not you're a Mexican food snob or just in the mood for a good burrito. While it was a bit pricy, it's definitely worth it. Also, the place is really small - if you want to eat there on the weekend, get there early or be willing to wait.

I have been going there for many years...probably 15? I am never disappointed, the food and the service are always top notch. I have had the tilapia, the salmon and the pork probably 15 times each and I am still enjoying it. Every time. The pitcher of margarita is a great deal, the chips are always fresh, the salsa is very good and the food is always served hot. This placed has managed to master the art of consistently making great food, not an easy task as we know something often can go wrong in a restaurant. I am taking a star off because I think the deserts could be improved. The flan we shared last weekend was so so...not the best texture or taste. However, I consider this a minor detail...as we probably should not even have had desert after such a good meal and good margaritas!

Searched Tripadvisor for a nice light dinner after another Cub's win. We scored again at this Clark Street cantina. Ceviche of shrimp, scallops and salmon was perfectly prepared with a light and sweet lime marinade. Our "gringo" combo plate was a pleasant surprise as well. The carne asada was nicely grilled with a spicy tomatillo sauce. Service was attentive and friendly.

haven't been in a good six months so was surprised to see a sleeker interior and a whole new staff, who were just superb, perfectly attentive and very pleasant and welcoming. my waiter even asked if I liked 'spicy' dishes and they really turned it up a notch or two, was a wonderful meal, and a wonderful margarita at my waiter's suggestion, just perfect. eager to visit again and if you don't know the place you really must give it a try!

The mojitos here are possibly the best in town.

I've eaten at El Nuevo Mexicano several times in the past few months, its location near the Century Landmark Theaters makes it convenient for an 'after movie' meal. I find the staff to be warm and gracious in a contemporary manner and the ambience to be comfortable. The food is consistently exceptional. This isn't a Tex-Mex diner, rather you will find a sophisticated menu that blends Mexican spices and preparations in delightful and often unexpected ways. Last night I had a grilled salmon on a base of sweet chili sauce covered with peaches and raisins, complemented with herb roasted fresh vegetables. Wow, what a combination...the salmon was nicely grilled with piquant herbs which was offset by the natural sweetness of the sauces and fruit. Every visit I try something new and come away impressed. Highly recommended.

Great little place just north of downtown Chicago. Great food and good times. Vegan and vegetarian opinions available.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Lakeview. We have visited other places in the neighborhood but they just do not have the same charm and service as El Nuevo. The fajitas had more flavor than any I have tried before in the city and the guacamole is as authentic as it gets. Our sever was very friendly and cheerful. Not to mention, the patio is so nice to take advantage of on a summer night. The restaurant even treated us to a slice of the delicious tres leches birthday cake with a candle. This has become our go to Mexican spot. Great food, service and affordable prices! Just watch out, the margaritas are strong, as the should be! : )

Great neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Quick service, and great food and drinks. Their meat is cooked perfectly, and the servings are large, so come with a big appetite.

We arrived on a weeknight, four adults, a teen, a kid. Our friends are regulars; my partner and I like to pretend we are, too, when we’re in Chicago. Among us we had such good food: chicken, beef, pork, veg. We ate thin, salted chips with excellent salsa. And the drinks? My skinny margarita was tart, sparking, strong.

Not your run of the mill mex food -- great margheritas and loved the pork carnitas. Wife enjoyed the salmon. Their chipotle sauces have mango and plantain that add a fruity sweetness. Looking over the menu, will definately want to try several other dishes (chili relanos for one), although the carnitas were so good it will be hard not to just order them over and over.

Great atmosphere, service, presentation, and food! We will definitely be back. Beef tacos were excellent (not run of the mill). Fajitas were excellent as well.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Lake View. I love going here when we visit our daughter. The fajitas are killer! The atmosphere is warm and the staff is always friendly. They also have a nice little outdoor patio in the back to enjoy on warmer days.

I have been to this place far too many times to count and it continues to be more than excellent. It is the best Mexican food I have ever had (and that's saying a lot for this foodie). The fajitas, the mango pork dish, the tacos, the guac, the salsa...literally everything is delicious. I have taken my mother, visiting friends, boyfriend's parents, etc. here and all have seemed to have enjoyed it as much as I do!

This restaurant has always been consistently good, but a new addition sent me to food heaven. The ceviche made from salmon, shrimp and scallops with pico de gallo is to die for. It is so refreshing with just the right touch of heat from the jalapenos. These people know how to make consistently good food and the service is always excellent. I had never tried the tres leches cake before last night, but it was wonderful. Not too sweet with the perfect consistency. My husband loves the tacos al pastor with pineapple and I am a fan of the steak tampequina and the flautas, plus steak tacos and several other items. Their fish item are also wonderful, perfectly cooked and there is a vegetarian section of the menu for those so inclined. Make a reservation and just enjoy. The outdoor patio is lovely this time of year and the umbrella shade you from the sun.

My friends and I come here often and the food is always tasty and fresh and the margaritas are fantastic. I almost always order the Carnitas Chipotle so if you love spicy food, it doesn't disappoint. When the weather is nice, sit on the adorable patio.

We usually come here when seeing a film at The Landmark Cinemas (down the street). It's convenient to park at the lot (serving the theatre & shopping complex) before walking down to the restaurant. The servers as sweet & well trained. The margaritas & food are good. It's a smaller restaurant, charmingly decorated & not terribly loud. You can actually have a conversation here. We love the Molé Enchiladas & Chiles Rellenos. The Tres Leches cake is worth the calories too. I think there is a patio here in the back too, but we've never investigated it.

Frank Sinatra sang "The Best is Yet to Come". Well the best is right here...I've been to many, many Mexican restaurants in the US and Mexico. El Nuevo Mexicano has just moved to the top of MY list. Firstly, every employee is from Mexico, that's a good start, except for the one guy from El Salvador! LOL, close enough! Friendly, excellent bartender, waiters and servers. Painstakingly prepared and beautifly presented food. I ordered Shrimp Diablo while my friend ordered a taco platter. We shared a very good Ceviche with salmon, shrimp and scallops and a mini (free) flan for dessert. I was very very VERY happy at the whole experience!

Delightful find! One of the freshest, best tasting, well priced Mexican offerings in the city. Always friendly, efficient service in a clean, pleasant atmosphere. Broad menu...delicious. Complimentary chips and fresh salsa. Their marguaritas are the best!!

We have tried a few other places locally but El Nuevo is hands down the best. Great service, amazing food. Kind of expensive for mexican but also far better quality than others we have been to. We will definitly eat there again.

Chips & salsa are good. Salsa is very hot. I ordered enchiladas & they were ok. We went to on a busy Friday night with no reservations & they seated us immediately. Waitor was nice, quickly refilled our water. Soapapillas for dessert were very good.

The food was very good, the waiters were very nice, the place itself is well decorated, the prices are very affordable. Everyone in my party was very satisfied with the restaurant. The taste is very Mexican and home style. As we stayed at Magnificent Mile the trip was a little bit long. The neighborhood is not the best, nevertheless we recommend this place for quality, quantity, prices.

We went here amd are 3 vegans. We all ordered off of the weekend brunch menu and it is only $10 a plate. The flovors were good. A bit spicy. Everyone loved their meals, had quinoa as a side which was seasoned well. The house margaritas was also very good.

Great salsa, good classic Mexican fare. Enchiladas with tomatillo sauce is my go to meal here. Margaritas are ok, not great.

This is our favorite Mexican Restaurant. It never disappoints. The food is authentic, delicious and fresh. My husbands favorite dish is enchilada with mole sauce. He says it the best he's ever had. Everything I order is delicious. It's casual, laid back dining and the price is right.

Oh my the best margaritas!!! Great service and food was amazing!! Very accommodating for large groups!! Staff is so friendly and patio seating is the best!!

My husband and I just weren't in the mood for Italian while we were in Chicago, and sought out some good Mexican fare instead. We were very happy with our choice of El Nuevo Mexicano. The food was not your typical Tex-Mex tacos y burritos. The menu made us really really think hard about what to choose... everything looked so good! The margaritas were tasty and the food presentation was just as lovely as it was delicious. Make sure to stop in if you are tired of Chicago Dogs and Pizza!

Ok, I admit I've not been to many Mexican restaurants in recent years, not much to choose from in rural Minnesota, but oh my was this good. Went with a big group and we had a great time. Food was excellent, service was great, costs reasonable. It was just absolutely terrific Had just a couple of appetizers which we passed around the table. Ordered carne asada, marvelous. My wife had great chicken enchiladas. Another ordered salmon that was also very good. Some fish tacos as well as shrimp tacos were ordered too. Do not recall what else was ordered but we were all very pleased. I highly recommend

There's a very good choice of food for every budget, portions are generous and chips and salsa come instantly. Good margaritas, great for large groups, lovely lovely backyard. Definitely a great place. Service very friendly.

Great atmosphere, excellent service and food. Plenty of Vegan options. Nice and cozy. Handled a party of ten with no problems.

This is not your typical tacos, enchiladas and refried beans. Although they are on the menu most dishes are what we call upscale mexican. I had the combination fiesta with a chicken tace and a cheese filled pablano pepper. The chicken taco is small and comes with very moist chicken with flavors that are very good. My husband had the taco platter. The presentation was that the tacos were rolled up and standing on end on the place. The beef was tende and the onions and green peppers inside were decicious. Yes, order the guacamole was very tasteful...and of course do order the margaritas. We sat in the back room which was much quieter than the front room, unless, of course if you can get one of the two tables in the front window.

This was our little hidden treasure for so many years, however the new interior and revamped menu have attracted many new customers. Our favorites are the Salmon with Peach Chipotle & the Tilapia with Jalapeno Lemon Caper. The nueva margarita is perfection! The Chicken with Red Mole on the specials is awesome! The service is always friendly, too!

Stylish without being uber-trendy, this modest restaurant offers great service and a wide variety on the menu, including numerous vegetarian (vegan, even!) options. A short walk from the busy Broadway strip just south of Belmont

We were able to find parking on the street on a Saturday night. The margaritas were delicious and the food was average. Our waiter was fantastic. The restaurant was very busy.

My husband and I were here for a long weekend for our 4 year anniversary and we were sooo pleased with this place that we ate here 2 nights in a row. We are big foodies and LOVE mexican food. The salsa was the best we've ever had. I loved the steak fajitas and margaritas. Everything was VERY delicious. Next time we go to Chicago we will DEF be coming back here.

Steak tacos were fatty and chewy; rice and beans were great. Shrimp tacos had no flavor at all. Salsa and chips were okay. Chip’s kind of greasy. Salsa overpowered with pepper taste. Guacamole no flavor at all. Just okay, wouldn’t return.

Fabulous Sunday Dinner with great service from Augustine and food to match. The guacamole was fresh snd not too spicy, as a prelude to the queso fundido and cheese enchiladas en mole( Perfecto y el mas mejor). Don’t hesitate, and drop in on this fine establishment. YOU will not be disappointed and soon become a regular as well!

Stopped by here last week for a quick dinner. The food was fresh and quick with excellent service. Highly recommend

I visited this restaurant a few days ago. I have to say the $10 for a guacamole is way to much for the portion served. I could not believe it. I mean literally the size of the dish was worth no more than $5-6 if that. I have had better at Uncle Julio's Hacienda. Also $12 for a Strawaberry Margarita which was ok I guess. I was very pleased with the service but not the price for the food! I won't be going back again.

I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but this restaurant has changed mind! We had salmon, fajitas, chicken and coconut shrimp . Everything was so good. Make sure you try the Pomegranate Margarita and they have Margaritas by the picture..

Great atmosphere, friendly service and great food. We didn't have to wait for a table. Great selection for vegetarian diners.

My friend and I chose this for a late-night meal (around 10:30 p.m.) simply by walking by and saying "We have to try this". We were first attracted by the atmosphere and then the aromas as we opened the door. We were quickly seated and there was an unusually healthy crowd for the time of evening during the week. Everything was exceptional: the service, the food, the subdued lighting, the quiet music. The food is fresh, expertly prepared and beautifully presented. We highly recommend this restaurant for as close to authentic as one can get so far north of the border.

This is a smaller venue. We ate there around 1 on a weekday and got in and out just fine. I got the last ‘traditional’ item on their full menu - 3 tacos. It was a great portion, if you are really hungry... smaller tortillas topped with A LOT of meat and toppings. The pork has a kick to it, so if you don’t like spicy, steer clear. The chicken want as spicy. Very good food AND service!

This is a great Mexican restaurant with a great variety on the menu. It includes the typical Tex-Mex, enchiladas, nachos, tacos etc..but they also have some very unique items as well. I had a chicken breast that had a sauce of peaches and raisins, it was spicy and sweet and delicious. The service was very attentive, the atmosphere was unique, the prices were reasonable, my date said the margarita was very good. Overall it was an excellent dining experience for this type of restaurant. The only downside is that it's a small place and seats are at a premium on a weekend. Make reservations!

Really could not fault this beautiful little well run place. Excellent attentive service, fantastic fresh food with an interesting menu. Its worth visiting just for the margaritas. Superb value and a great setting

First saw this restaurant here on Trip Advisor. Had a great meal. My wife had the shrimp tacos -- excellent. I had the Carnitas Chipolte con mango y platano. The later was spicy, but wonderful.

Happened across this gem by accident. The restaurant is casual, cozy and alive with vitality. The food is great from traditional to innovative starters to main plates and house specialties. My husband love the tampaquenia and I try a different dish each time we dine. I have never been disappointed. I am especially fond of the chicken dishes. The deserts are the best! The staff is welcoming and treats you as a "regular." from the start. They have been reviewed on "Check Please" a PBS food review show which will air in February. Try to get in soon before the entire area turns on to this tasty spot. Reservations recommended.

We were looking for a place to eat after seeing the Blue Man Group at the briar street Theater. Just a quick three block walk away was El Nuevo Mexicano. We had reservations for 7:45, but arrived about 45 minutes early. Even though they were crowded, they accommodated us and we were seated right away. The food came quickly and was delicious, as were the margaritas. Terrific service too. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

There were some interesting, but in the end, rather uninspiring dishes available here. The consensus between me and my children was that we've had much better Mexican food at many other places. The atmosphere was pleasant. The set up of booths and tables was crowded to fit in as many people as humanly possible in the space available. The chicken dishes were dry.

This restaurant has a wonderful patio and a nice dining room, great service, a nice ambiance, is very friendly and welcoming, is family friendly but couples are the most common visitors. What really is great about this place is FOOD! It has consistently improved its kitchen and today has extemely good versions of classic Mexican dishes like tilapia, carne asada, chile releno, a to die for shrimp taco better than any I ever have eaten in Mexico, and an absolutely wonderful selection for Vegetarians and Vegans. To top off the experience, the check is so reasonable. Most main courses are no more than $13 and appetizers top off at $7. Our last check was $50 with appetizers, main courses, and Negro Modelo plus a$10 tip and the food was superb, absolutely supberb.

We have eaten here MANY times and keep coming back whenever we're in town. Food is great and service is impeccable.

As part of an anniversary trip to Chicago we were seeing a play at the Timeline Theatre... and decided to reserve here for dinner before the show. AND we were glad we did!! The place is simple but most welcoming. The staff are genuine. We were seated right at the window - a lovely spot. We had guacamole, enchiladas and soft tacos - all of which were fresh and delicious!! Also, the pitcher of fresh margarita was oh so excellent!! We had dined in some top name, super expensive restaurants downtown earlier in out stay -- but El Nuevo Mexicano beat them hands down. This place is the real deal!

We eat here often because this restaurant is in our neighborhood, and we find it consistently excellent. Preparations are beautiful, tasty and a step above the typical variety of Mexican plates. We always bring visiting friends here--it is our go-to place for Mexican food. We also appreciate the vegetarian options, the reasonable prices, and good service.

Our small dinner group met up for dinner at this restaurant. I made reservations as I was told it fills up fast. The restaurant was great. The service was great. The food was great. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great food. The waiters did not rush at all even though there were people in line waiting to be seated. They let us enjoy our food and drinks and have dessert as well. I will definitely be back again to this restaurant again. Our waiter even informed us that they have a patio in back for customers to sit outside (but it was to cold to sit outside when we were there). He was very nice and spent time telling us about the restaurant.

I almost hesitate to call this "Mexican food," only because people might tend to think of only the typical burritos, tacos, etc. They do serve those, but their specialty seems to be creative, fresh food prepared to perfection...and just that happens to use "south of the border" ingredients. Also, what makes this a five star restaurant is wonderful subdued lighting and ambiance, and great, attentive, but also unobtrusive and low-key service.

Enjoyed dinner and drinks on the patio last weekend. Generous portions and tasty food. Service was attentive and the vibe on the patio was energetic.

You know you’ve made a great choice when you ask someone for a suggestion to order and he tells you he proposed at the table you are about to sit at. And he ordered for me some enchiladas not on the menu. The food was awesome!

I come back to this great mexi place summer and winter, taking a cozy window corner in winter, and the cheery patio on hot summer nights. Start with some of their fresh guacamole and chips and a pomegranate margarita or your basic salted lime--they're all good. I'm a fan of the veggie fajitas, sizzling and irresistible to the last bite, but I've never met a menu item there I did not like. Happy, friendly and fast servers get it right every time.

If you love mexican food and value prompt service in a laid-back environment, El Nuevo is an excellent option. I ordered the Beef Chimichangas, which were excellent. The service is team-oriented. Not only is the waiter helpful and attentive, but there were at least 2 others that stopped by our table to make sure our drinks were always full. We felt like we were the most important people in the room even though the restaurant was packed with customers. Any restaurant manager looking for the ideal place to learn how a restaurant floor should be run, look no further than El Nuevo.

My partner and I met one of his oldest friends and her girlfriend for dinner. We cheered each other for a dissertation, a favorable rating, and a for general cleverness. Among the four of us we had a pitcher of margaritas (on the rocks, with salt), a Negro Modelo, chips, salsa, guacamole, tacos, burritos. Delightful, all. The next day, my partner and I strolled back to say our farewell to (my favorite, borrowed city,) Chicago. So good.

There were 5 of us and we all enjoyed our dinner here. We had no trouble finding free parking on the street at 6:15 on a Saturday night. The atmosphere, margaritas, food and service were all great!

I close my eyes and wish really hard that El Nuevo Mexicano was close by me to visit. I open my eyes. Nope. I am home in CT but I am seriously missing the delicious food at this local neighborhood place. You lucky , lucky people to have such a great , creative Mexican place right there to enjoy at will. I have to sit on a plane to return, and return I do every time I visit the incredible city of Chicago. I truly enjoy the menu selections . No matter what our group ( we go as a mob) orders, we are extremely pleased. They season here with a perfect hand. We travel to this restaurant from The Loop, bypassing many other Mexican restaurants. That my friends, says it all. Go.

The cuisine at El Nuevo Mexicano is delicious and authentic. The menu has plenty of options including Vegetarian dishes. I recommend trying the Enchiladas with mole sauce. The restaurant is close to the Briar Street Theatre and it's a convenient stop after seeing the Blue Man Group. The margaritas are excellent and tasty. The restaurant looks small when you walk in but there's another room in the back. The restaurant is family-friendly and also good for groups. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere and is good for date night.

The menu was such a surprise. Genuine Mexican flavours but plenty of choice (well-marked) for my vegan friend! What a surprise. Lovely atmosphere and the loveliest waiter I've had in a long time. Go there!

...and that's about it. Xhicken in the enchiladas was breast meat but cooked without seasoning and just plain. Even the hot sauce on the side wasn't hot
Good service and cerviche
This place has a nice ambience and good food. Our waiter was amazingly attentive and upsold us guacamole, which was good. It was relatively easy to eat Plant Paradox-compliant and the cerviche was tasty with shrimp, scallops, and salmon. We’d go back.
