We have been talking about going to this place for a couple of years and so very glad we finally did. Decided to order a lot of food. Chorizo taco, Chicken taco, El Pastor taco, a quesadilla with peppers and cheese on a homemade corn tortilla, cheese dip and an order of refried beans. Oh, my everything was absolutely delicious. Our server, Diana was perfect. The salsa and chips were some of the best in the city. The chorizo taco was my highlight right up there with the quesadilla. Loved the amount of onion and cilantro. Perfection. The restaurant is large and it was packed. Highly recommend and can't wait to return.

saw this on TA and decided to try it out. huge mistake. no idea if food is good but service was nonexistent. we were seated. then a server brought chips and salsa. then a different one came to take order. she was barely audible and seemed like she didn't understand much English. very frustrating. and seemed annoyed in general. we ordered our water and unordered a horchata and our food. she left and came back with a condiment bowl of chopped limes and 2 sauces. no idea what they were since she offered no explanation. then she took another tables order. we still have no water. was about 10 minutes. we got up and left. too many places on Buford to choose from to pay for poor service. if you want awesome authentic Mexican food go to Taco Veloz just down on right from this place. it doesn't look like much but it's fabulous. this place looked good but again I cannot say anything about food since we never got that far.

We go to this restaurant at least 10 times a month lol! It is an amazing place if you are looking for real Mexican Food. Of course Tacos are Delicious! Love this place! Customer Service is not that great but who cares when food is this good! ;)

Hand made tortilla tacos. STEAK IS THE BEST!!!! If you like shrimp, get the shrimp cocktail! its huge and yummy

Ask for the Spanish menu to see the real food- tongue, goat etc.. Worth the taste-sensation to try real Mexican when it is available, and this restaurant, open until early morn every night, is worth the experience.

I was looking for a more authentic Mexican restaurant to celebrate a birthday, and El Rey hit the spot. The food was delicious - lots of great options beyond your run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurants, including fresh grilled seafood items. Note that it gets very busy and the parking lot fills up quickly; wasn't a problem for us as we met at 5:15pm, but something to consider if you're planning to arrive later. We'll be back!

Went there as a family. Order a draft beer the waitress set the beer down in front of me and when I picked it up for the first drink the entire bottom of the glass fell off. The entire 32oz beer went all over me. The waitress looked at this and then grabbed a credit card from the table over and proceeded to go run the card. When she come back we asked if we could get some assistance. She returns with one small cloth to clean up the mess. I told her I wanted to speak to the manager. The manager comes over and we actually get moved to another table. She apologized for the incident. I told her I understand things happen but explained that the waitress walked away after seeing what happened. She had them bring me another beer and said she would comp my beer. Keep in mind I am literally soaked from the chest down. After the terrible service the rest of the meal I get my check and I was charged for my beer and two sodas I had not ordered. Not only did they not seem to care but they couldn’t even follow through with what they told me they would do. Will not return.

4 star food, 2 star service. Parking can be tight so get there early. Menu has a lot on it and is very cluttered. Our server did not come back after taking our order. Good thing we rationed our water throughout meal. Had to grab another employee to get our check. Food was good but not good enough to give them another shot after abysmal service.

First of all, we only went there for our 30th anniversary tonight because we spent our honeymoon in Mexico, so it was in honor of that. We've got another place lined up for tomorrow night. The ratings seemed good. I am a Mexican food snob, so I think I'm a good judge. Also, I've traveled to every state in Mexico except for 2, so I've experienced lots of their variety of food. We each had two tacos (chorizo, barbacoa (goat), and al pastor). They were on freshly made corn tortillas - very good. They served them with grilled onions (not cebollas though). That was odd, but the tacos were GOOD. We also ordered a huitlacoche (corn fungus) quesadilla and a flor de calabaza (squash blossom) quesadilla. Both of these I have had numerous times in Mexico and they were great. Here, they were just barely okay. It was worth a try. The service was ok. The first server didn't seem to speak English which is fine with me, and then we had one who spoke English. They both did an ok job too. With an abundance of Mexican restaurants and taquerias, I won't go back.

I stopped here because I missed the kind of tacos I was able to get for the cheap in Florida: tender meat, pliable soft tortilla, sharp bite of onions, and delicious cilantro. Now THATS a taco and I miss it in Ga. After all the hype this place has received, I realized I would be remiss if I failed to check it out. I left stuffed and I do mean STUFFED!! The lengua taco is definitely the highlight of the menu: soft, tender and flavorful. The carnitas taco was also excellent and (contrary to expectations) the barbacoa taco was very good (Everything pales in comparison to the lengua taco). The chicarron quesadilla was greasy and dropped red sauce on my blouse, but it was tasty. The nopalito quesadilla was a bit bland. Watch the red sauce they put on the table. It's spicer than expected. The green sauce was nice and mine. Rice and beans standard. Service was excellent. I was seated quickly, my order taken and is was digging in in less than ten minutes. Atmosphere is colorful but not overwhelming. Overall, a visit here for a late night taco fix won't go wrong.

Tacos Al pasteur were good but not as good as in Mexico but close. I am not sure if our beef came off a Rottesiory like they did in Mexico either. Over all the food was good, Parking can be a challenge on weekend nights and the place is open until like 5 am. The only downside we found was even for a part of 2 they added a mandatory 15% tip. Sad because I would have tipped more but when we were told this then I said fine, and that is all I leave. Tipping I do believe in but if you require me to do it then that is a whole other issue.

I haven't had anything bad yet.

I had a great meal at El Rey del taco. The servant was awesome and friendly who had great advice for my choice for dinner. The salsa was fresh, the sauces were great and the carne asada was the best I've had since San Diego.

They make their own tortillas and they're open 24 hours. The chorizo and potato quesadilla rocks, but I love the way they do organ meat tacos here. GET THE TONGUE TACO.

The food here is truly authentic Mexican. They have good salsa and chips. The guacamole and queso is quite good. A good menu choice is to get the mini tacos and chose 4-5 different ones. The location has limited seating so get there early. There usually is a waiting line.

I had been here a couple of times and took friends there last night. The food was very good but the server on a scale of 1 to 5 I would rate a 1.5. I ordered tacos carnita (pork) but got tacos carne (beef). The served insisted the tacos were carnitas so I had my wife confirm.... they were beef not pork I also felt I had to plea for more ice for my margarita (which was supposed to be frozen anyway). A 15% service charge is included in the check so perhaps there's no incentive to provide above average service. I would have been happy with just average service. Disappointing service prevents me from giving a higher overall score. I'm in no rush to return.

Cheap, awesome food

We love the tacos at this place! Not all (we have tried chicken a couple of times, but the meat has been dry and not too much flavor to it). The handmade tortillas are absolutely worth the extra .25 cents and honestly 60% of a good taco (at least for us). Al pastor, carne asada and chorizo are our favorites; plenty of cilantro, onions and lime too. We love the roasted jalapeño and grilled scallions served traditionally with tacos, but here you will need to ask the servers. All very nice by the way.

Delicious food and Margarita. Good service. Just missing beer and wine for a complete experience. A very good value.

First of all it is nice to find a real Mexican restaurant in an area filled with Asian cafes. The very extensive menu take a long time to read sao start ofdfd with a Margurita and you will not minds. Dozens of taco filings that you can choose to customize and dozens of other foods from appetizers to deserts, all with an authentic Mexican taste.

Stumbled into this joint after drinking with some friends. We all were in the mood for some tacos on a budget. this place hit the spot! There is not too much i can say negative about my experience at El Rey Del Tacos. They had a wide selection of tacos and tostada 's and all were delicious! They salsa was so fresh with just the right amount of spice. the Guacamole seemed to be a little on the dark side which cause me to pass it up but that is just my preference. will return!!

very busy on rainy sunday aft. service lacks a little, orders came out wrong but were corrected. food was awesome, skip margueritas, tasted like only mix. but beer was cold

My family and I loved this place. We ordered a few items and loved all of them. The food is fresh and authentic, the service was awesome.. call ahead for reservations, this place gets packed! I highly recommend this place

Food was good but the service was horrible. Never even got silverware. Waitress barely communicated with us and seemed annoyed when we asked for something or had a question about the menu. We found out why when we got our check. They automatically charged us 15% tip. I mean why would she try when she know she's already getting a good tip? Good tacos doesn't mean you can skimp on service.

Shrimp tostada is yummy. Pork taco is delicious. good traditional food. Servers are always welcoming...even if you don't speak a lot if Spanish.

I would describe this place as a great hole in the wall. If not told of this place you may just drive right on by. The service and food quality was excellent. We ordered the tacos with homemade tortillas. The chips and salsa were great as well. Take the time to stop in.

I happened to stumble on one of the negative reviews while searching for a good charro beans recipe, and I had to jump into the fray to defend the honor of one of my favorite restaurants. I've been there many times, and I've never had a bad experience. El Rey del Taco serves a broad menu of amazing, simply constructed, and ridiculously affordable dishes. Pull up the menu and judge for yourself on that last point. On the first point...you won't really know until you try. If you decide to try, I highly recommend trying one or more of the tacos in a wide variety of meats: tongue, check, pork belly, goat, etc. If you're in the mood for something larger, go for one of the Parrilladas: El Maremoto and Mediterraneo are my favorites. And make sure to get some charro beans: they are tender, flavorful, and swimming in some of the best pot liquor you'll ever taste. They haunt me. My only niggling complaint is the drink menu: the margaritas are only decent, and therefore don't match the stellar quality of the food. My only caution is that El Rey del Taco is not a fancy Tex-Mex restaurant (thank God). It's clean and colorful and well staffed, but if you want upscale look elsewhere. If you want great Mexican food that leans authentic, you won't do better in Atlanta.

This bright Mexican restaurant on Buford Highway is spot-on with its authentic menu. The tacos are perfect -- double tortillas hold succulent, perfect fillings. On the side -- fresh limes and a creamy avocado-jalapeno salsa. Handmade tortillas are available, made to order one at a time on an ancient press at the front of the open kitchen. The non-taco dishes are good too. Try the shrimp -- Camarones A la Diabla. You'll never want to return to Tex-Mex.

Authentic street tacos, get the hand made tortillas, ceviche very good, I like the barbacoa (goat) tacos a lot.

I always have the carnitas tacos with regular tortillas. 😍😍😍😍 They are DELICIOSO! I love spicy so i add grilled jalapeños and sweet onions with the green and red sauce! Best authentic tacos in Atlanta and believe me, I've been EVERYWHERE! JUMBO Margarita is also very good... Sweet, but strong! If you decide to go... ENJOY

This place is the real thing! Food is consistent and fresh every time, NOT your typical tex-mex. Tacos de lengua and al pastor are awesome! Fun atmosphere and friendly service. Expect to wait a little bit...it’s often packed.

Tacos are great! You get some exotic stuffing that you don't usually get in the city: tongue, goat stew, tripe. Flavors are wonderful and the place is very authentic. Caveat is that if you ask them what kind of oil they use in their cooking, they simply will say that they don't know. So, don't think much about it, just eat and enjoy. As for me, next time I dine at that place, I skip their chips and salsa.

Our friends highly recommended this place for authentic Mexican cuisine and so we tried it out. They have a great variety of tacos and quesadillas. We had several of the mini tacos: cow cheek, tongue, beef, etc. They were good but a little dry.The hot sauces were excellent. We had the corn quesadillas: Tinga chicken, chorizo and another spicy one which were delicious! The mango margarita was excellent and also the non-alcoholic mango water. For dessert, the flan was good but not great and the tres leche cake wasn't very nice. Service was great and our waitress was very sweet and friendly.

We often visit this place for the chicken burrito. It's well balanced and tasty. The spicy guacamole sauce adds to the flavor. And the best part is it's open late night ( think 24 hrs)

Left the club and was hungry. Googled late night places to eat near our location. This place popped up and had good reviews. We had to wait about 15 minutes as the place was pretty full. Once we got seated our waiter explained the popular things on the menu. I went with the Specialty on the Grill with 2 meat options. I got steak and chicken. I also ordered Guava water. My dish was yummy good.

El Rey del Taco is still the King of tacos! they have revamped the decor and the menu, but still serve the same great tacos with hand-made tortillas. It has been a favorite of people all around the metro area who know how to navigate along the Buford highway to Doraville. It is open all night and has fabulous food for before, during, or after partying in ATL. prices are very reasonable and tacos are fantastic. This place has been a favorite of mine now for three years - very consistently great!

We're were referred to el Rey by some store workers where I was doing business today and they told us it was the best in town, they were right and they were Mexican! Great food and ambiance!

I've only been here twice, and have ordered the same thing--the steak Alambres. Amazing. Instead of being served on a skewer, it's basically a huge pile of chopped steak, bacon, onions, cactus, peppers, etc, with melted cheese on top. You put it in a tortilla (homemade corn are fantastic-and they make them before your eyes) with a little hot sauce, and it's unbelievable. You only get 3 tortillas, but there is enough meat for 6, so you have to order extras. It's $2 for three, which is a little steep, but I'll live with it. With the extra tortillas, it's about $16, but you could easily share it-- with three people, even. I'm drooling thinking about it......

This people are serious lier. They told me you have to wait one hour to be seated. I wait the all hour and they come back. You have to wait another half hour. And i saw couple tables from outside with not customer.

This is my place for Mexican in the Buford Highway area. The carnitas, the cheek, and the carne asda are all fantastic. Do not expect more than just cheese and meat on a quesadilla though. The homemade tortillas are wonderful. I think the price is on point for the quality of tacos you get too.

Went to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and as touted as close to authentic Mexican food as you will find in Atlanta. Customer service was outstanding in spite of the large crowd...music was blaring to celebrate...do not know if that is a regular occurrence, but the food was worth it. Guacamole was the best...fresh and delicious...a must!

No matter what time of the day, what day of the week, or what week of the year you go, this authentic taqueria will serve you the most delicious food. Not tex mex, just real and authentic tacos and seafood. Service is always great, happy and friendly service will make your day. So sad there’s only 1 location in Atlanta. Best mexican food in Atlanta. No BS

Stopped in for lunch on my way out of town. I was happy to see some of my favorite taco meats, long, tripas, and carnitas. I ordered them on the handmade tortillas which were perfect, not too thick or thin, and held up during eating. All of the meats were perfectly seasoned and very tender. I had the taco lunch (2 tacos) + 1 more, this also included chips and salsa, a side of beans and rice, and my tea. Total $10. I enjoyed the beans and rice, but they were not the best ever. The salsa was one of the better that I have had at a restaurant. The tacos on the other hand were definitely some of the best tacos outside of Tijuana.

It's been eight months since I had the pleasure of eating here. I remember how good it was then and I'm happy to report it is still real Mexican food and it is still very good. Even something as traditional and simple as a taco is fresh and authentic here and you know it with the first bite.

Order mini tacos (asada, al pastor, buche, carnitas), none were great and kids meals. Food was okay. Service was not friendly. Would not return if lived locally.

Try this place for a truly authentic Mexican Taco meal. I love it. This is a great place to gather with friends for some drinks and tacos. The King!

This was recommended to me by a friend who loves authentic Mexican food. I was expecting more ambiance but who cares when the food is so good. The menu is in Spanish mostly. The servers are very friendly and helpful for those of us who enjoy good Mexican food but don't speak Spanish. The Chips and salsa were delicious. The Tacos are filling. It's not a very big place.

I haven't actually been inside but my husband brought me some takeout when I was dying for some nachos and it was really good.

No joke - I had puerco, beef and chicken. Its rowdy, loud, mostly Spanish speaking but super accommodating to all. Loved it and will go back again. And again, and again....parking is cramped, may be better to Uber or Lyft or park across the street.

I stopped in here last week for a quick lunch. The line was out the door around 11:45, but moved quick as we ordered in about 10 minutes. The food came out within another 10 minutes. I ordered the Memphis soft taco and the Cartina soft taco. Both tacos were great and inexpensive. Tacos are about $2.59 each. I also had a sweet tea and chips and queso for the order. Place is great for lunch or dinner. I would definitely recommend going.

I love a place where I can get good, cheap tacos, on handmade corn tortillas, with different meats in each one. 3 tacos makes for a hefty meal and each is only about $2.50. The last time i went, the service was a bit lacking, with long waits to order, no silverware when the food came out, but i remember better service my first time. I had beef cheek (fatty, rich, delicious), goat, and al pastor. They do an excellent al pastor, and the tacos were delectably improved with some Nopales, and there green and red sauces. The only down side is that the hand made tortillas are a little flimsy and break apart with the juicy meat. I admittedly have not tried their Parilladas which sound fantastic, or any of their other dishes, but when i have a craving for tacos in Atlanta, and i don't mind driving, this is my typical choice.

Very good authentic Mexican tacos. Affordable. We go there several time a year. Would love to one day try something else on the menu but the tacos are so good that I always end up ordering them.

Taqueria El Rey Del Taco has rapidly become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta but it is very bi-polar. My experience upon each visit always seems to vary. The last time we arrived at dinner time on a Friday and it wasn’t crowded and the staff was friendly and attentive. I have been there when it was empty and had horrible service. I have also been there on a weeknight and the crowd was completely insane. I never expect my serve in a Mexican restaurant to speak English and my command of Spanish is limited to hazy high school vocabulary. So, I am not offended and willing to work through an order, point at the menu and, overall, am not upset if I don’t get exactly what I ordered. The problem with some of the servers at Taqueria El Rey is they are detached and absent and that, in any language, es imperdonable. The shop itself is very clean and you can see the kitchen from the dining area, also well maintained. Flat screens of soccer are playing when we go and there are usually decorations for whatever holiday is upcoming; I would recommend going during Halloween. Taqueria El Rey has a nice selection of meats from which to pick; from your typical Asada to the more adventurous Goat, Cabeza (Cheek) and Lengua (Tongue). If you have never tasted the tender sweetness of cheek or tongue, I would suggest you take the plunge with these tacos. They are unrecognizable as anything but shredded meat so you can separate yourself from what they are, if that is what turns you off from them. I don’t envy a chef that can cook meat they way they do at Taqueria El Rey Del Taco because he woke up before the sun to start the process. All of the meat that I have tried there has been so tender and infused with flavor. The pork “Al Pastor” taco is a taco seasoned so well it comes to you in a dark crimson color, but not so over seasoned that you lose the flavor of the pork – a balance so delicate most barbeque joints can’t get it right. Goat can sometimes be dry or greasy, but their goat tacos were neither. Their other pork option, Carnitas, I have found to be rather dry. Like all quality Mexican restaurants, you do get chips and salsa if you eat in. Usually we are given 3 different salsas; a small bowl of a fresh tomato salsa, a red sauce and a green sauce in a squeeze bottle. The green sauce isn’t your typical taqueria tomatillo salsa, this is a thicker, creamer salsa with a backend of jalapeno. We can decode the flavors of avocado and jalapeno but there is more to this sauce than that. It is so good that I would drink it were I not worried about ulcers from the heat. Here is the rub, and the only reason I don’t eat there on a weekly basis. No matter your party size and no matter your service quality there is an automatic 15% gratuity added to your bill. It is on the front of your menu, so it isn’t a secret but it just seems like a shifty practice. Tipping is in such a flux in America with some restaurants forgoing the practice and just paying their servers more but I have never come across a restaurant that forces a tip upon you unless you have a large party. If you are going to charge me gratuity no matter what, then increase the price of your food by 15% and don’t gouge me in the end On one visit to Taqueria El Rey our service was so terrible, every order was wrong and drinks were never refilled, etc… so why did our server deserve 15%? I usually tip 20% but I don’t know what to do here as I clumsily try to figure out 5% of the pre-15% total at the register.

Loved the tacos and the Horchata. Great salsa and guacamole. Just the right spice for me. Probably a bit too hot for the kind of ppl who complain that spanish is spoken at mexican restaurants ;-)

The food was excellent but the parking situation was challenging. Open entering you use a screen to register on the waiting list. We were a little after the normal lunch rush, so we were seated quickly after signing in. It is a very popular, bustling restaurant with lots of activity. All three of our traveling trio loved our choices and would go there again when in the area.

Invited by my son, good tacos try as many different ones as you can. Share a family size cocktail (shrimp or mixed), I tried the one with octopus and it was ok. A little crowed but service was quick. Order tacos with the hand made tortilla. Remember the name is "el Rey del Taco" in English "the King of Taco" so Tacos is what to have. Price was very cheap!

Good, freshly made guac, excellent mexican shrimp cocktail, wonderful mixed seafood grill. Lots of other interesting stuff on the menu to try. A casual place that is busy and noisy on a Saturday night, but I will definitely return. Service was basic, but good and friendly. Both English and Spanish fluent. Give it a try for authentic, good Mexican seafood, tortas, and other regular mexican fare.

The food was terrible, the service was horrible. The waitress seemed more concerned about flirting with the cook than delivering my food. The tacos were cold and the place was drity and full of drunks!

Great spot to eat. Lots of options and everything is delicious. Prices are fair. Highly recommend. The Al pastor is great, as well as the Alambres

Had heard favorable comments from others but this night did not live up to those expectations. Led by poor service, the food was authentic but some not edible. Had goat meat and ground chuck corn tacos. The chuck was good but the goat was super salty and inedible

This place is one of the best places to have Mexican food in Atlanta. They have homemade corn tortillas I like their tacos and mini quesadillas!!! They also serve some tasty margs!

This restaurant has a look of a dump but the food is authentic and fantastic. Especially those Tacos for $1.60...you can't ask for more. We always order Al Pastor, Chorizo tacos. You can have a corn tortilla if you want for extra price. Their burritos and combos are also very good. This place is also open late into the night...something like 4 or 5am. The service is slow though. Also, Don't expect English channels in this place. They always play Mexican channels. Parking is decent. The only knock in the rating is because of their ambiance and slow service.

I deff love this Tacos!! They are authentic and delicious! We love coming here late at night, usually after the club. They always have great service and great food no matter the time of day. Its very close to the highway so you don't have to drive much. Buford Hwy its filled with Mexican restaurants but I must say... this is the best. There is always parking. Food its not expensive at all. I love their Steak tacos with out onions and cilantro but I do order a guacamole bc I looove to stuff my tacos with it! Delicious!

Went for lunch around 1:30 pm and there was no line so we were seated immediately. I had two carne asada tacos and my son had the lunch special of 2 tacos, beans and rice. We enjoyed everything from the chips and salsa to the hand made tortillas for the tacos. The food is very good and it's also inexpensive. Lunch specials are inexpensive but the regular menu items are mid-range. There's lots of free parking. Service is excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Several friends mentioned this restaurant. I happened by at lunch time so I swung in. The food was good and the prices fair. They give you several sauces and salsa and chips upon arrival. The pink looking sauce is HOT!!! The green sauce has avocado in it and it was awesome!

Typical Mexican restaurant with great food and atmosphere. The tortias were home made which makes them incredibly delicious. The meat was cooked properly, and the sauce was really really spicy. I'd come back to that place next time I'm in Arlanta :-)

This is a small taco restaurant on Buford highway and is seriously good. We've been looking for a better, more authentic taco restaurant and were pleased to find El Rey del Taco. They have a wide range of tacos - I'm particularly fond of their fish tacos.

This is was my first visit. The place was very clean and the menu in both Spanish and English. There was a lot on it! I decided on the super chicken burrito which came with rice and beans for a late lunch/early dinner. Not knowing what to expect, this came out as a handheld sandwich and the rice/beans were in a bowl with a spoon (beans on one side and rice the other). It was so much! I brought home half. The burrito was super fresh and delicious! The rice and the beans perfect Very very nice and I wouldn’t hesitate to return. The staff is very friendly too. I love the decorative elements around

I came here on a Saturday night with friends. It was busy, but we didn't have to wait long. The food was decent, the place was lively, and wow the margaritas were strong! You may need to find someone else to drive you home if you drink them. Also it's open late--a huge plus!

Authentic Mexican food. The seafood cocktail is awesome. Has very fresh seafood. The salsa is fresh and spicy. The tacos are available with all the traditional fillings including tounge and "bowel" but I stuck with chicken and pork. The tortillas are made fresh to order. I highly recommend this place.

Love the tacos here. They have a variety of meats to choose from, tongue, steak, chicken, goat, Mexican sausage, tripe to name a few. They really were busy when we was there on a Friday noon.

Authentic tacos here. Straightforward menu, sparse yet very comfortable surroundings and huge lunch crowd.... all great signs for a great lunch and I wasn't disappointed a bit. Service is a bit on the shy side but as busy as this restaurant was, I can somewhat understand why the server never came by after serving my meal. Loved the steak tacos and the accompanying sauces served in squeeze bottles! Salsa was chunky, just like I enjoy. Great selection of meats for the tacos, well beyond the ordinary taco stand choices. I recommend the steak!

The tacos were good, because they had good flavor. The wait times are long for specialty dishes. Tacos come out pretty quickly. 🌮😐

We arrived at 12:50PM on Sunday and the only issue that we had eating at this venue was parking. We had to end up illegally parking on the side of one of the businesses because too many businesses were using the same parking area. If you want authentic Mexican food at a really good price then this is the place to go. The salsa was awesome and the staff was friendly and very helpful. You know when almost all of the patrons are of the nationality of the venue it is going to be good and that was the case at El Rey del Taco. I only wished I could have tried their drinks however, I was not into drinking any alcohol that day!

Love, love, love this place! Went for dinner and tried several tacos- pastor and carnita were delicious. Authentic and fresh- this place is packed with locals and a perfect casual, family spot. GREAT place for soccer watching as there are several flat screens on the wall. Skip the lines and snobbery of taqueria de sol- this place is 10x better!

This place may not have the atmosphere of some of the other over rated and over priced places in Atlanta but I'm a foodie and this place cannot be beat. Real Mexican, not slop beans and rice is served here. The tacos are amazing - get the handmade ones for extra flavor - lengua, chorizo, chicken, al pastor, mmmm! The salsas they serve at the table with limes are spicy hot but oh so good! Paradilla - holy cow - you can't stop eating it! Never had a bad meal and service is fast and efficient.

I was really disappointed! I ordered nachos and all my chips were burnt! So sad!! First it took forever to get WiFi to work? Then when it did chips were Soo burnt!! 😢

Always looking to try new places so we found this place on TripAdvisor.. food was delicious! staff was friendly and attentive. I went with a big group and they were very accommodating. It was so delicious, we came back a few days later!

We went to this restaurant after reading a review in the newspaper and were terribly disappointed. The food was expensive for the quality...I had spicy shrimp, and my husband had a carnitas burrito. The guacamole was great, so we ordered another bowl; the second bowl was totally different and tasted like vinegar. The charro beans were equally disappointing: Deli ham had been diced into them, and I found more of that and diced sausages in my bowl than beans! Service was iffy...refills for drinks and salsa were hard to get. Atmosphere was lacking...which is absolutely fine if the food is good, but unfortunately it wasn't.

We went to El Rey del Taco and had a good cheap lunch. The Día del Muerto decorations are spectacular. My daughter's lunch fajitas were perfect for $8 with a soda. My queso fundido was good but not melted.

Cool place for authentic Mexican food. I’m sure there are a lot of places to eat Mexican around here, but this place is worth a try. Ambiance and service are outstanding. Prices are reasonable for the wide selection of menu items. Great chips and spicy salsa go well with a pitcher of frozen margaritas. They offer 3 quality levels of margarita (the cheapest was very acceptable). I went with an Mexicano entree from the grill verses the standard burrito, fajitas and quesadilla ordered by the others and it was great. This appears to be a very popular place so parking could require a little walk from an adjacent parking lot.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this Taqueria and I was excited to finally check it out. Like most on BH they have parking in their strip mall lot. We came for dinner during the World Cup and they had the game on which provided a nice atmosphere. It was smaller than I expected on the inside although they had a back section closed off. Because of the World Cup it was quite loud and hard to hear the waitress but she was friendly and mostly attentive. You get chips and salsa to start and I have to admit the salsa is yummy. A little spice not too much and I thought the chips were good. A little thicker than your standard “Mexican” restaurants. We heard so many good things about the tacos we both opted for the Tacos. We opted for the hand made tortillas for all of our tacos except the one mini taco we got. So here is what we tried I’ll start with the ones we did not care for as much: -Pollo- The chicken taco was very dry and not flavorful. I’ve actually probably had better at standard Mexican restaurants. It was a real disappointment -Asada- This was a little better but I was pretty underwhelmed The rest of our meal was much better though……. -Chorizo- the Mexican sausage was very good. Lots of flavor and enjoyable. A little spicy -Cabeza- The Cows Cheek was the one mini taco we got. I’ve never had Cows cheek but I wanted to try it… It was delicious. Tender and yummy. -Al Pastor – the pork butt and steak was fantastic probably the best we had beating out the Cabeza by a small margin. We tried combos of their red and green sauce which were fun but in the end I think I liked the salsa so much id just use that next time. If you want roasted onions with the tacos you have to ask but they are happy to add them. I think if I come back for taco’s I’ll try some of the other meats and leave the chicken and stead alone. Also I’d love to try the other menu items. I know this joint has a reputation for a late night place to and I imagine at 4am in the morning it’s pretty top notch stuff. I felt like if I had not had the chicken and steak I would give this four stars but because it was a little inconsistent I went with three. This is a place worth going to though. I liked the atmosphere and the some of the food choices were great.

This is authentic as it gets in Atlanta. You fell like you are south of the boarder. I would have to say if you really want to eat, the prices are a bit more then one $ unless you are there for a lunch special.

This is by far the best mexican restaurant in all Atlanta. Food is great, original, margaritas excellent and service very good.

Where to begin. How about the horrible and rude server we had that bearly spoke English, rolled her eyes because we couldn't speak Spanish. Didn't bring us our chips and salsa or waters. Also asked for cheese dip, never came. Asked to speak to a manager, no one came over. Food arrives, mediocre tacos at best. Ate a few bites and left. Never got my drinks. We will never return. Best part...they auto tip 15%!!! Don't ever go!!

El Rey Del Taco is our favorite Mexican restaurant: My wife loves the mushroom tacos, I enjoy the seafood options. We all enjoy the incredible margaritas. For birthdays, the staff come out to sing the birthday song. We have always had wonderful service. They have wonderful chips and salsa. Depending on the time that you arrive, you may have a 15-30 minute wait, but for us it is always worth it. Prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is so festive there.

This is a classic Mexican restaurant with authentic food and atmosphere! The tortilla's are hand-made and warm when served - what more could you ask for? The choices are plenty and there is a specialty lunch menu if you venture in midday. A must try.
Fun environment
Fun environment with loud music. The chips and guacamole and queso were very good. We got 4 different kinds of tacos: pollo, asada, al pastor, and carnitas. They came with grilled onions on top, which were delicious. The carnitas were good, and so were the chicken. The asada was decent. We wouldn’t get the al pastor again though. For 5 tacos and guacamole and queso, it was $25. We would go again!
