City views for days

By James R |

We came here for Happy Hour because we read that it had a rooftop bar. We were blown away with the views of San Francisco during sunset. Great place to sip on a pitcher of Sangria and eat some empanadas. And let me tell you, 2 pitchers of sangria had us lit

Hip SF Destination Restaurant

By SprySparrow |

El Techo is a destination restaurant. Everything about this restaurant is special. So much so, we stayed for 4 hours! The drinks are fresh, and well crafted, especially when served with pebble ice. It's so perfect for an icy, refreshing drink without watering it down. We had the Hummingbird and Caipirinha drinks, one of which is a much smoother margarita than the traditional version. A HUGE shout out to our server DANIEL CHAVEZ (11051) who attended to us over the four hours, suggested the perfect drinks, and who provided the most excellent service. He was attentive, but not overbearing. And he continued his service even after presenting the bill never flinching when we started a new one. The drinks and vibe were so good, we stayed! The view is wonderful from the rooftop. And no worries about the cold and wind. They provide see-through wind screens when needed and heaters for a toasty time. We dined on the Benedictos--the best version of eggs Benedict I've ever eaten. The eggs were consistent and impeccably cooked and the biscuits were to die for--toasty, yet moist. The dish was topped with chipotle hollandaise sauce which was light and not overbearing like some can be. For dessert, we had the Bunuelos, beignets sprinkled with powered sugar, and then we dipped them in dulce de leche--a smooth warm chocolate. The dessert is not too sweet but just right. The guacamole and stout chips are very good; however, next time I will ask for a bit of spice like jalapenos added to mine. We had reservations and their website states that ONLY at brunch do they accept reservations. We were the first ones there and the place was crowded right away. It's a loud atmosphere no doubt charged by the several birthday parties taking place. Apparently, THIS is the place to celebrate. Street parking is available, but it's less stressful to park at the public parking structure located at 3255 21st street. Rates are very reasonable. I was worried that there wouldn't be a lot to do in this area, but there are unique and hip shops located on Valencia to round out the day. Some are a bit quirky, which is why we like San Francisco. For dinner we ate pizza at Beretta's nearby (See my review on Yelp), but I could have easily gone back to El Techo though we would have probably worn out our welcome. :) El Techo is hip. It's unique. It's a destination restaurant.

Brunch on Sunday

Five of us ate here on our first full day in San Francisco. Booked ahead online for brunch & all went smoothly on arrival. Food & Service were good, place was rammed when we left.

Great Food! Great Drinks! Great View!

By Hanna G |

You talk to the person in front of the door and when a table is ready for you, you go inside the lobby of an apartment building and take the elevator to the top where you eat great food and drink great drinks, all while looking out at an amazing view of SF

Great location and good food

By TheBigD2014 |

Very relaxing atmosphere with rooftop scenery of San Francisco. The food is good. Small portions so you need to order more than one dish. My favorite was the quesadillas but their fresh Fuad is another good option. Nice view of the city on a clear day/night.

Mexican greatness with a rooftop view

By MalinLowdahl |

Amazing food! You could really tell that the people in the kitchen knew what they were doing. Delicious and a great view from the rooftop!

Great views and atmosphere

By Steven Rowlands |

It can get breezy in San Francisco so make sure you take a jacket or a cardigan. But that should not deter you from visiting this place. Such a wide array of food. And caters for people with allergies such as coeliac. Totally recommend it. Great atmosphere at night and buzzing with your San Francisco hip mob

Wait was long but view is lovely

By LindaL246 |

Margarita was ok but sangria was excellent. We had good fish tacos but the taquitos were boring. It was extremely noisy and crowded and as senior citizens we did not fit the demographic: mostly 25-40 somethings. But we were still made to feel welcome. I won't go back--too noisy.

Great View, Needs Vegan Options

By TJB |

Nice brunch spot to go to with friends. A little over-priced, but hey that's brunch in SF. The view is fantastic and I recommend this spot just because having brunch on a roof top in SF with a great view is a a unique experience. They do need to make two improvements though: 1. Get a better taplist, a harmonic rotating tap is not good enough. You have Cellarmaker right down the road, and breweries like Faction and Fiedlwork just across the bay! Add them to the list, beer goes great with brunch :) 2. Offer vegan options. Yes we were able to remove cheese on the guacamole and remove egg, cheese, and sour cream from the veggie scramble, but they didn't compensate with more veggies or potatoes or anything and the menu is not labeled. Please label the menu and add a few legit vegan options :) Overall good experience, great view.

Great rooftop bar, ideal for drinks.

By Benniboi91 |

Me and my Cousin went here for a few drinks and got some very tasty drinks. The cocktails were amazing and you get an amazing view of the city. Would love to return in the future

Great view, small plates

By tr21 |

Beautiful view on Mission with limited seating, and a limited menu. For the prices of the dishes, I would have expected a higher quality of service. We were never given utensils, napkins, or water. I had to take the napkins and forks from a nearby empty table. Food was delicious.

Rooftop fun

By Sally R |

In the mission district above the busy street, a fun place, good food good drinks and a great view My favorite was the quesadilla de calabasa. Make reservations or be ready to wait

Good food with a great view!

By Carol32832 |

Recommended when we were on a cruise in Europe, this is truly a hidden gem! After taking an elevator to the roof (techo is roof in Spanish), we found a restaurant with heaters and wind protection. We ordered chicharrones by the pound. Half a pound was plenty for 3 people. The handmade corn tortillas and guacamole were excellent. With a margarita and draft beer, you couldn’t ask for more! Staff was very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu.

View

By Nora E |

The view was really nice especially at sunset. If you wish to eat and drink make sure you get a table or you will be standing up. The drinks were strong and good ( margaritas) the food wasn't that great though. I had the quesadilla and it was super greasy lacking flavor. I will go again just for drinks and the view alone.

nice little restaurant on the roof top, which you can not find if you have not heard of it. The place is definitely worth a visit. order more of the small dishes and share with each other.

Fun Outdoor Rooftop Bar

By Nicole A |

El Techo is one of the only outdoor rooftop bars in SF. That being said it is also located in the popular Mission District so expect a wait to enter this bar. Lines start to form about 30 minutes prior to opening & during the summer the line can get LONG. Regardless its worth it if you are not in a rush, as the views, atmosphere & food make up for any wait time. The food is Latin American & really tasty! Its more of a small bites/tapas style plating style but there are a lot of good selections & they also offer Sunday Brunch. The only issue I have with El Techo is their wine list is awful. The pricing is cheap (which can be nice) but I would rather pay slightly more for a good glass of wine than less for one of the worst wines I have ever had. Especially considering the proximity to wine country & SF being such a 'foodie' city the wine list is the one thing I would hope they eventually focus on more. For those views people would pay $2-$3 dollars more for a better wine! Bottom line is its a fun, lively place- perfect for groups, get together's or even a casual date. Definitely would recommend & enjoy!

Premiere Rooftop Bar

By Thomas T |

The views from the roof are stunning. The drink menu is innovative twists on Mexican favorites. Unless you do sit-down dining, the bar menu for food is a tad underwhelming.

Vibrant Crowd

By queenlinz |

Loved this place! First time for me in San Francisco. My friends and I found this place online by chance. It's a simple rooftop bar/restaurant that serves great tapas, awesome sangria and vibrant crowd. Most of the crowd are the young and laid back. Service I must say is very good, they were attentive, helpful and chatty. It was so much fun being there that afternoon with a perfect weather, overlooking the city.

Loud, confused service, with an amazing view

By JoanMiro |

We went out to celebrate our last night in San Francisco. The menu includes several small plates, which are fun to share. The mushrooms on a toasted tortilla (hongos en una tostada)were excellent. Our friends particularly enjoyed the Hummingbird cocktail, which thankfully contains no actual hummingbirds. The scene was loud to raucous on a Friday night with a friendly vibe. The waiters mixed up our drink and food orders, but it was all OK.

My first 1 Star review EVER

By Kelly H |

Don't waste your time. The server we had (wish I could tell you his name) should not be a server. The experience started off nice. We put our name in & walked around mission while we waited 30 mins for a table. We got the text at 2:30 PM & were seated by 2:45. Both the host that took our names outside on the first level & the hostess were exceptional. Very polite. I asked the waiter what was good on the menu & he told me (close to quoting):The carnitas (sigh) I need your order now bc the kitchen is closing. I said no food we will stick with drinks. Drinks came out in good time. As we sat there for 30 minutes he never stopped by or dropped off a check. I had to go to the hostess stand to ask if we can pay for our drinks as we wanted to leave & she assisted us. I had a better view on a parking garage of the city. Do not bother with this place.

very average

By ato1972 |

If you want to eat among a bunch of 20 somethings taking photos of their food and tourists or people form the Bay in the city for the day, this might be your thing. Yes, the view is great but you can find great views of the city all over. As a SF resident, when I go out to eat its to enjoy the company of friends and eat good food. The food here was not good. I have traveled extensively in Mexico so I do know what real Mexican food should taste like--you do not get that here. I ordered a simple huevos rancheros, which is on the menu at many restaurants in the city, and I can honestly say its the worst I've ever had. One of the eggs was cooked fully and the other a little less cooked, but neither was runny. I had to dump some of our table salsa on top as the dish lacked the Mexican taste that comes from good sauces. The tortillas were crunchy and didn't become softer because there was no sauce. Really bad. Also, we made a reservation so we could avoid studying in the ridiculous lines that form at places like this and they still made me stand in line (behind 4 groups) waiting before they allowed me to go up and meet my friend who was already seated. The elevator up is right inside the door! What's the big deal? Just another example of the unnecessary pretension at popular places in the city. This place is a tourist trap as far as I'm concerned. Table service was prompt and friendly.

Excellent vibe - great food. Try the brunch

By anjujha |

This is def one of my fav restaurants to take guests to - never disappoints. The lines can be LONG! Recommend reservations for brunch - free via Opentable. Great rooftop lunch/dinner/bar with beautiful city views. It's not too high -i think its on the 4th floor but its done right. Crowd is pretty classy if u feel like dressing up. Casual is good too!

Mexi-tasting

By Brian F |

Great food at fair prices. Had 4-5 small dishes with drinks and beer at 92$. Food was super nice and the waiting for ordering and serving was quick. Best recommendations

Come for the views, leave 'cos its such a scene

By D_Teixeira-Gomes |

El Techo has one of SF's few publicly accessible roof-top bars. This review is of the bar, as opposed to the rather excellent restaurant on the ground floor. On Thursday thru Saturday, the deck club/bar suffers from major crowds, long lines, high noise levels and a staff that's too cool and too busy to give a F*! If you're younger and like to be seen visiting the scene, this place will be right up your alley. If you'd rather have a quiet drink with a couple of your close friends, then you probably want to visit shortly after it opens on a week night (or day during the holidays/weekends) and leave as the night draws in and the scene starts-a-thumpin' I recently did this on a Thursday evening: Arrived early with a couple of buddies, got seats along the perimeter with a great view of downtown and the heart of SF's mission. We got the right drinks on the second go-around, and our nibbles didn't take too long to arrive. The evening was warm, the sunset across an amber blanket of bay cloud spectacular. The setting of the sun seemed to be a sign that it was time to "party", as people inexplicably would yell, and whoop as they left the elevator, and those already amassed responded in kind. It took a tad under 30 minutes to go from relatively quiet to "can't hear myself thinking". So we finished our drinks and headed out for some dinner.

It's Worth It

By ajlgreen |

Excellent Mexican food on the roof (el techo) of the steakhouse Lolinda. Definitely get the ribs and the guac. The chips are so-so but everything else was delicious. The view is spectacular.

Go for the view

By ZeeDon |

There's a lot going for this restaurant. Covered outdoor seating, great view of the SF skyline (on a clear day only!). If it's a cold foggy day, I would suggest going to another restaurant. The food is okay so I wouldn't come here just for the food. Went there for happy hour and stayed for dinner. Crowd was mostly millennials. Watch out, the bill adds up quickly. We paid $70 per person (including drinks). Wine selection is non-existent. Service is fine. Location is in the up and coming Mission district. Parking can be a pain.

Expensive and bad

By jordirodriguezoliver |

130usd for nachos, some snacks and beers, not very good quality, no place to seat and no relevant views... Not good deal

Views and Well-priced Drinks during Happy Hour

By MPD357 |

This roof-top space was crowded when we arrived but we squeezed onto a small table for drinks. The bar food being delivered to the next table didn't appeal but we chatted to those people and the couple to our other side Two rounds of drinks was enough as happy hour expired and we retired to Lolinda - the restaurant downstairs

Small Plates with a View

By Daniel L |

Went with friends on our first night in San Francisco and it delivered. As the sun slowly crept over the hill we watched the fog roll in from the bay. As for the restaurant, the happy hour deals were great for drinks ($4 beers and $7 margaritas) and the Chicharrones de Carne were perfect for sharing for four people.

Hip spot for lunch and good food

By Cberry18 |

This place has a really nice ambiance to it with the music and root top vibe. Service was great and their happy hour menu made the costs better. We ordered the sangria pitcher which was awesome. The plates are tapa style so keep that in mind. Food was really good too!

Latino tapas bar with a great view of SF!

By adriano2911 |

El Techo is one of the best outdoor tapas bars. It is Lolinda restaurant's rooftop and there is a great view from the city. The chuzos (skewers) are great, especially of chorizo. Several Latino beers and cocktails, like the Xingú black beer, from Belém do Pará - Brazil and a delish cocktail called "Chica da Silva". Nice crew and awesome vibe for sunny Saturday afternoon. El Techo does represent the Latino community in San Francisco. It is in the right neighborhood, The Mission District. Worth visit!

Great view, small plates

By katlyngerken |

This place is perfect for lunch or dinner as a couple or with a group of friends! The small plate meals make it easy to try a variety of dishes and share them. The pulled pork quesadilla (I can't recall the menu name) was incredible! The only unpleasant part of this experience was the wind on the rooftop. The side of the tent kept hitting us in the back.

Perfect Brunch place

By sjaz |

We were a family of 4 with a reservation for a Tuesday Brunch over the holidays. It was the first time that I have ever been to a building with a doorman, taking the elevator up to a restaurant. Doesn't look like anything from the street but when you go up, WOW, a magnificent view awaits you. Food was very different from the typical South American food. Everything tasted better. Service was casual. You could see different age group. people eating alone and a big group of friends. We took a walk in the neighborhood for half an hour. So many beautiful streets with old houses and little shops to explore. Highly recommended.

Great Rooftop Bar

By Travelingbear1000 |

Fabulous view and great cocktails. I did not have the chance to try any food though it looked quite tasty. Location was very cool and the views allowed for a different feel than most in SF.

Happy Hour

By BLull2226 |

I came here after work for happy hour and it is such a cool roof-top! Amazing drinks and food, definitely recommend!

Rooftop Vibes

By Kristen Lampe |

We only had to wait around 10 minutes for a table for 5. Fun times on this heated, somewhat enclosed rooftop restaurant bar. I had the Quesadilla de Pibi and it was tasty. I’m not a big fan of ‘spicy food’ and the flavor was just right! I also had the Chocolate Mousse for dessert.

Love this spot

By Pedro Grilo |

Love this spot, the Sangria is great and is a very chill place, you also have a "coffee shop" in front of this place, The food and beer is also great.

Happy Hour

By Newcastle76 |

After walking for miles and getting lost in the Mission District, I googled best rooftop bars and we were happy to come across El Techo. We enjoyed margaritas, guacamole with chips, fried chicken and empanadas. A really nice place to refuel over happy hour drinks and snacks.

Rooftop brunch- reservation recommended

By txnat88 |

This is a rooftop Mexican restaurant great for brunch. The views of the city and spectacular. Our favorite dish was the Mango small plate- great app for sharing since they Have seasoned everything perfectly.

Tasty Food, But Pay a Premium for the View

By Nicole C |

I went to this rooftop bar with friends during the week at around 4:30-5:00pm and didn't experience any wait, which was nice. The margaritas were potent but tasty, and the food was great! We really enjoyed the empanadas and guacamole. It's a really nice spot with good vibes and a nice view, but I still felt like the prices were pretty steep for the overall experience.

Amazing food and great atmosphere

By Maria G |

El Techo is an absolute find. The food was amazing! My favorites were the empanadas and maduros. Pork was phenomenal. We were there for almost 3 hours enjoying the view and the wonderful service.

Fun atmosphere!

By meganlef5 |

Excellent food and service, the drink menu of full of fun but very strong cocktails. The food is easy to enjoy as a group, we ordered several dishes to share. The upstairs patio can be a little chilly, a sweater on hand might be helpful.

Awesome View, Good Drinks

By OliverBxx |

Like everywhere in the USA we had to stay in a Line. After 20 Minutes we could enter the Restaurant. We had only Drinks and ordered Cocktails, which has been very good. When you take only Drinks you can't seat on the table. The view from the Rooftop is awesome! You can see the whole Skyline from San Francisco. The Prices are for San Francisco very reasonable. The staff was very friendly but we had to wait very long, to be served again.

Fun Time in the City

By marlon629 |

This is a nice restaurant which sits on a roof top. When I went we chose to sit half in and half out. They had heating lamps which was a plus. The food was excellent, the service was superb. Now the only thing that I didn't like was the fact that we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for a table, I seen people that came after me with the same amount of people in their party as we had that was seated before us. Parking was bad but we found a parking garage that stays open until 2:30 am on 21st.

Come for the view, stay for the food, and enjoy both!

By rgstrip |

Come for the view, stay for the food and good drinks. Really liked this place, AND, they were only serving brunch, which is not my favorite. We got there early enough to not wait much for a table, but it is probably worth waiting anyway. The view is killer, the drinks were good, and the chips and salsa (a key thing in a Mexican place) were among the best ever. And, again....the view. Go here, you will like it. Breakfast for two, including two drinks, chips and salsa, two entrees and a salad was $66 before tax and tip. If I were to return to this city, I would take friends here, for sure.

Great brunch with a view

By kamnhb |

We went to El Techo for brunch. I was really craving their chicharones. It's now called carnitas. Still super good with generous portions. It's served with homemade tortillas and spicy picked vegetables. So good! My husband really liked the chorizo Benedict served on spicy cornbread. Get the bloody Maria too. For a rooftop, it's really loud, but heck it's packed. Worth the small wait.

Nice view, meh food..

By Peter K |

Made reservations for Sunday brunch(recommended) and was kind of disappointed. The view was great and the service was ok(it was real busy) the food was an afterthought, ok but uninspired. I guess it's the view and the scene that attracts the crowds..

Rooftop fun

By Mu Z |

Want a great view with a great brunch? This is the place. The cocktails were just right and the Huarache dish with the braised brisket was delicious. We walked in right before they stopped serving Sunday brunch. I would advise booking in advance.

Lovely view over skyline SF

By inekesg |

While enjoying the skyline of San Francisco you can drink great beers and eat delicious Mexican food, great place to stay with your friends!

Cool Spot!

By AdelleWatson |

We got attracted by the lively atmosphere at the front and decided to give it a try. Great Sangria and carnitas is one of the best I have tried. Great service!

Special and fun taqueria

By Stradinger |

We almost didn’t visit this rooftop taqueria in the Motto by Hilton hotel, but I’m oh so glad we did. Not only were these extraordinary tacos, but the ceviche was the most amazing we have ever had. We had both the carnitas (loved the pineapple) and the Barbados. The kanpachi fish was fresh and very pleasing in the coconut milk, citrus, tiger milk, cucumber, tomato sauce with a bit of crunch from pumpkin seeds and plantain chips. Josh, one of the bartenders served us and was super efficient and friendly. If we have a nit, it would be fair,y weak, loaded with ice, margaritas for $13. The view was fun and the place was obviously popular.

Great Food

By markthesharkOhio |

El Techo is located on top of a building in the Mission District of San Francisco. The cuisine is Latin and tapas is the way to go here. We had the chicharrones and they were great. I also tried the skewers and they were great. We all had very delicious cocktails. The crowd is young and hip and fun. We enjoyed people watching. We spoke to the manager and he was very nice. Our server was great as well. This is a must for next time!!!!

Fantastic location, but otherwise slightly disappointing

By WassimCornet |

We went there for dinner but were slightly taken aback by the small range of choices. This is primarily a rooftop bar where people go to drink and enjoy the spectacular views of San Francisco. The food was a little disappointing and quite expensive. Service was very friendly, however.

Great Food, Great View

By pacemaker2017 |

Enjoyed a great view over great food with my daughter while visiting San Fran. The staff was welcoming and the service excellent. Food was an eclectic Cuban-Mex that could be shared and enjoyed tapas style. Get there early with a bunch of freinds and stay for a while.

Superb introduction to Mexican in SF

By Campbell P |

Really lively rooftop setting for Mexican tapas-style dining. Very prompt service. Perfect beginning for a night on the town.

Cool rooftop restaurant/bar

By Jenna | The Urben Life |

Fun spot to get a great view of the skyline! Okay food and drinks, I was most interested in the rooftop vibe.

Quick drink

By ConfusedPete |

Trendy rooftop bar, very relaxed. No bookings needed for bar area which is huge! Very young, fast, trendy crowd. GREAT VIEWS!!

Great spot for outdoor eating

By Miller1036 |

It is sad and surprising that this is one of a handful of rooftop dining options in SF, but I'm happy we have it. The space is open and airy, and the space heaters do a good job of keeping the chill to a minimum. At times the music is piped in way too loud (especially at brunch this seems unnecessary), and the menu is somewhat limited, but overall the food is good, the city view is decent, and the service is good. The high-top tables for two are too tiny to safely fit all your plates and glasses, and some are wobbly to the point of being precarious. It's better to sit at the long counter spaces that surround the space unless you are with a big group and can snag a decent sized table. I do wish they would take dinner reservations so it would be easier to plan something with a group, but the online waitlist is a second-best option.

Fun happy hour

By Mike D |

We definitely enjoyed this place, excellent happy hour excellent staff with amazing views it was just a fun place to spend a couple of hours

Rooftop with awesome views

By Linnette C |

Definitely, I enjoyed the service, food, and awesome views. It is a very nice vibe place. The food was very interesting and delish. I would recommend for veggie peeps.

Good food small portions big prices

By Destiny John |

I’m from Texas ain’t no way I would’ve spent $50 for 2 veggie tacos chips and guac and a pina colada. The food was good but I was not a fan of the price. Also it’s on a roof too so be cute but bundle up and don’t where uncomfortable shoes cause of COVID the elevator is for staff only so we walked up 4 floors.

The view

By JoM |

We just came here for a drink, it was happy hour so we had 2 margaritas for 14$. When you only want to have a drink you have standing tables. You can enjoy a beautiful skyline view. Staff is also friendly. I think there will probably be better places around to have dinner.

Enjoyable with nice rooftop

By Joey613 |

We had a nice time here. We sat on the rooftop, took in the lovely views and had a few good drinks. They also have some vegetarian fare options which is always a plus. I would return.

Awesome location but food was Meh

By Seaspudfamily |

We stumbled on this place while strolling down Mission Street on a winter evening at dusk and looking up to see people outside on a top floor of a building. Once we figured out how to get up there (you have to go in a narrow door and take a creaky elevator) we were amazed by the view of the city (especially at sunset), but we were super disappointed in the food. Stale chips! At a Latin American food restaurant! A crime.

Amazing

By Ami R |

Make a reso for a table w/the guy outside running the list for El Techo, then go to the sister spot Lolinda next door for cocktails while u wait. Once you're upstairs w/a table, it's beautiful views of the city, amazing cocktails, delicious food, & expedient, friendly service. The chicarones, empanadas, & speciality cocktails are delicious. 👌🏼

El Techo rocks!

By Brad H |

We went to El Techo with friends and we had a great afternoon of good food, drinks and views. This is a very trendy spot and was packed on the Saturday afternoon we visited. We ordered a jug of margarita which was awesome (we then got a second!). The brunch menu seemed to be the only option and we all picked the Carnitas which was an excellent choice. The meat was absolutely wonderful, very flavourful and moist - and plenty of it. The views here were great looking back over to San Francisco. It's the perfect place for a lazy afternoon with friends. I would definitely be back if I lived in San Fran!

Great view

By B H |

The place has a great view and you can sit outside. I would not recommend the food, it is more of a place to grab a drink. Stay away from the margaritas as they are just so-so.

Delicious food, great view

By Micah214 |

This was an excellent spot for my friends and I to grab a drink and some food. There were 5 of us and we didn’t have to wait long for dinner even on a busy Friday night. I like that there are two lines to get in-apps and drinks only or the sit down dinner option. We ended up going with a bunch of small plates and sharing. So much food and man was it good. The best fish tacos I’ve ever had, hands down. Everything we had was delicious and fresh. The quesadilla was also a standout. It’s a little loud but an overall cool place and I will definitely visit again.

Overpriced

By Michelle J |

Great views of the city but it’s an overpriced joint. The heating lamps were a nice touch. A small thing of guac and chips was super pricey. Expected more guac. Pitcher of margaritas contained so much ice.

Great out of the way spot

By dcarr278 |

Unique rooftop bar. Busy place but worth the wait. Neighborhood not so great but nice view. Heaters made a cool evening pleasant. Great margaritas.

Come for the food - it's Mexican but not what you're expecting

By AndyTheGameInventor |

We were a party of 10 on a company outing. Le me give you the good and the not-so-good. The neighborhood is a little sketchy. Once you're upstairs on the deck, you will feel completely safe. San Francisco has a number of rooftop/high floor restaurants and bars with great views. This place ha a great view but in only one direction, so you may or may not be able to snag a table with a view. They have space heaters and a partial tent-like covering, but it can get chilly at night. The other issue is that the restaurant had only 2 bathrooms, each unisex for one person, so there was sometimes a line. The bathrooms themselves were actually very nice - Mexican themed, etc. When I first saw the menu I thought this was more of a bar with tapas/small plates. That's not entirely untrue. But if you look at the menu carefully you'll find that most of it is regional Mexican foods, not the tacos/burritos stuff you may be used to. We found the food REALLY good and we got to try things we hadn't before. The small plates were also surprisingly filling. Drinks were good and while they push the margarita pitchers (which were fine) there were some other drinks on the menu, I had the Oaxaca Old Fashioned which I thought was quite good and certainly not weak. Worth a visit.

Cool Mission hang out

By BusinessTraveller710 |

Visiting from London to our friends in SF who live in Mission and we were taken to this awesome cool and trendy bar. Think Dalton London but in the beautiful SF sunshine. We drank Margaritas of course with some epic guacamole and tacos. Service is quick and friendly and the views are spectacular on this roof top bar. Head down to this total gem of a bar if you know what's good for you.

Food/drink= meh, service = meh... View = phenomenal

By MindTrekker |

Don't go for the food or drinks (guac was edible, but not even as good as a packet from the grocery store; drinks were watered down). BUT, do go for some AMAZING city views. Go before 4 pm, else it's way too crowded and you likely won't find a spot with a view. You're paying for the view and the vibe, and wowie kazowie, it's worth it!!

Cool Spot!

By Richard Newcomb |

I was headed to the main restaurant, Lolinda, and discovered they had a rooftop bar & restaurant. We decided to give it a try. wow! What a cool spot. The line was like 20 people to take the elevator to the top floor and it took about 35 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Nice view of San Francisco, tons of energy, good drinks, pretty good food and reasonable prices. Cheers!

SF Premiere Rooftop Bar

By The Tit: The Truth In Travel |

El Tech isn't fancy. In fact, you would be lucky to come here on a sunny evening when its warm. Its always misty and foggy up here. The drinks are ok, but the rooftop vibe is why I like it. Lalinda next door has amazing Argentina food so eat there first then come up here.

Good food but not worth the wait

Recently visited El Techo with friends. We had to queue for an hour to get a table (they don't take reservations)! When we got into the restaurant, the vibe was great, service was quick and food was reasonably good. Definitely try the empanadas.

Tasty food with a stunning view

We ordered nachos with guacamole, potato fries and fries chicken with a margarita on the side. The food was tasty with a spectacular view. Bit overpriced but definiteley a hidden gem in SF.

The tortillas are on point

Delicious! Not a spicy food type of place but still delicious. The tortillas are just soooo good! And the carnitas;) to die for.

The view is worth the elevator ride up

Be sure to make a reservation, but don’t miss the experience of having a meal overlooking the rooftops of this part of SF.

Fun Atmosphere Rooftop

By BParent |

Went here with my niece who lives in San Francisco. As a tourist probably would have never found it. Good recommendation! It is in the Mission District on top of a rooftop. The atmosphere was fun, the food and marguerites were great, the service was professional, friendly, and very good. The view is amazing. The quesadillas were wonderful, chicken appetizer was good, and so were the empanadas. Definitely would return again😊

Great cocktails but barman VERY rude

By heather w |

this place is obviously a very 'in' place to go, but as a result it is packed and the waitress has to find you to serve you. Therefore we waited for ages and despite asking twice for service she did not appear. My husband went to the bar and the barman just said 'I'm not serving you'. When we finally got a drink the cocktail was very alcoholic and tasty.

Chicharrones de Carne is not to be missed

By Lisa M |

The most fabulous caramelized pork! Our group of 4 had Pina Coladas, Margarita and a Humming Bird along with 1/2 lb of the pork and 4 additional small plates. Everything was fabulous from the plantains to the guacamole and chips. We also got lucky on a Monday night that there view of downtown was clear and the noise level was super low. Fabulous night out and can’t wait to go again.

Not convinced.

Definitely book ahead of time as it gets extremely busy. Even with a reservation we had to wait. The brunch menu was limited but lots of tasty looking options. The carnitas was excellent but the scramble I had was just average. For what it was, it seemed an expensive meal. Would like to go back and try dinner instread of brunch.

Great food!

Ok experience

We have an El Techo in DC which is good so I expected that this location is great as well. It's just so-so. We waited for a table on the rooftop and went to the bar next door to grab drinks while waiting. We got a text that our table was ready so we head back and got seated upstairs. We ordered a pitcher pf margarita for the 3 of us which later spilled because the waiter had put the pitcher on the edge of the table and people kept walking by our table and boom - it fell and glass and liquid were everywhere and it was a mess. Our server was nowhere near being attentive to us because the person that helped us was another server...our own server barely came back to take our orders or to make sure if we needed something else. We got guacamole which was good and chips and the chicharron. We later explained to the server that someone had spilled our margarita that we barely drank and we ordered another one. Check comes and we were charged for the 2 pitchers of margarita. The server told us his manager wouldn't let him take off the margarita so he took off the guac which was under $10...the margaritas was like $36.....really bad service here and don't think we'll come back here. Spencer (the server we had) need to check up on his tables and make sure they're doing alright.

Rooftop friendly vibe w great food and views

Really fun place w awesome food, family style, fresh and fast. Not a long wait for seating (even w 8 people) and fast, friendly service. Margaritas and guacamole are a must! They even served me a birthday dessert on the house!

Interesting

It is a little tricky to find. Tiny sign. There is a sign at the elevator that tells El Tech patrons not to use the elevator. Strange. Noisy, good view, tables close. Young clientele. Central american cuisine. Good empanadas. Great margaritas. Not really expensive.

Great View and Eats

A fun place, though with what I guess are constant crowds, it's a bit noisy even though outside. Our wait was short on a Sunday evening so it's not always as bad as others have experienced. The food and service were solid. Creative take on Mexican dishes and well executed. My only complaint and what would keep me away is the hurried service. We were in and out in 45 minutes. Dishes arrived way too fast and we felt hurried as if they were constantly trying to churn tables. I would've preferred a slightly more leisurely pace to enjoy.

Super night out with friends

Great bar for a fun night with friends. I came here with some friends for the apéritive. Margarita and nachos were super good and the view of the city stunning

Avoid this place is my advice

Very disappointing visit. Food not great at all. The actual rooftop view is non existent as everything gets in the way. The person who sat us down- guy in pink ish hair was probably one of the rudest most unhelpful worker there. No wi fi available. Will not be returning for sure

Good view, great food, long wait

By Steven B |

Mostly excellent if you are prepared well. The food is amazing, great tapas to share, especially the chicharones. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food came relatively quickly. The view is fantastic and if the weather is nice, this is a great place for rooftop dining. If it is chilly, there are lots of heaters. It is very loud and was difficult to hear our table for four. They do not take reservations, so be prepared on a busy time. Our Friday evening took nearly 90 minutes for our party of 4. We had some drinks next door and they were kind enough to text us when the table was ready. Great food and atmosphere, but be prepared for a wait during busy times.

Our daughter took us to El Techo for drinks & appetizers before dinner & movie at Foreign Cinema next door. Beautiful city views from the rooftop. It was a clear Sunday evening about 5:00. Not too crowded. We would go again.
