Neighborhood Mexican restaurant serving authentic Mexican dishes and drinks

By Ushuaia4 |

Quaint, neighborhood restaurant serving authentic Mexican food. The vibe is casual, food is made from scratch and only alfresco (outdoor) seating. Not ideal on hot days or when it rains, although it is covered like a tent structure. Parking is limited so be prepared to park elsewhere. But the food and libations will make up for it

El Tesoro is true Mexican 🔥

Tostones were T-H-I-C-C, crispy and tasty with that plaintainy goodness… paired with the spicy guac they are reason enough to go back!!! Then the mulitas were keyyyy. Cheesey in between and OUTSIDE the tortillas too! Woweee! Tostada with the chicken rings was also smacking. Waited 20min to get to the front of the line and would’ve waited 20 more.

Good food. Insane operations. Misleading for vegetarians.

There are some places that are always busy. El Tesoro is one of those. The food is great and the price is reasonable. But this place is operated in every way to reduce costs at the expense of customer experience. There is a single line extending into the sidewalk to order food - 30-40 minutes, at least, on most nights. Food takes another 20-30 minutes, if you're lucky. They will shut off online orders, so you literally can't order ahead if you're picking up, and I've had multiple orders get cancelled. It's insanely frustrating. Last, and this is probably the most unacceptable, is that they advertise a "Soy Chorizo" option to appeal to vegetarians, but do not disclose that they cook the rice/beans with meat-based products, so you need to customize orders to exclude those and sub in other veggies. The only reason this isn't a 1-star review is because the food *is* great, if and when you are able to get it. But if you aren't digging hours waiting outside in the Atlanta heat, you might want to go somewhere else.

Best authentic tacos around.

Best authentic tacos around. Huge outdoor area that is perfect for kids and dining out during COVID times. The two owners are always around and super friendly. Might just be my favorite restaurant in Atlanta.

Good food at a good price

A coworker suggested this place for lunch. It's in a neighborhood right off I-20, and outdoor seating... It will remind you of a food truck setup. This was actually my second time at the restaurant, and I enjoyed both times. The guacamole is well made, chips are fresh (if a little salty), queso is decent, and I really enjoyed my quesadilla at the second visit. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Definitely a go to for a quick meal

Hit and Miss

I love the authentic vibe. Loved the the shrimp/octopus taco, tostado de pollo, and the pork mulita. The ranchero burrito just wasn’t my thing (hot dogs and eggs in a burrito) and the tres leche was in a cake form and dry. Will definitely go back but stick to what I found to be my favs.

El Tesoro: The Appetite Wrestler!

My wife and I went out with friends in Atlanta to El Tesoro. It came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! Dining was outside and though the line was long, a waitress came and served us while we waited. We placed the order and food was ready in almost seconds! The menu says "Best Burritos in Atlanta, 2023" and they were incredible! I ordered the asada steak burrito (and I made it a "burrito supremo" for $1.95 more. Worth it!) Dining is outdoors like a backyard barbecue, so much fun!
