Great place. Great manager!

By Odessa C |

We saw this restaurant win a queso-off in Austin. We love queso and trying new places so we went. While we were waiting we had a chance to talk to the manager. Super nice! We tried two out of the three queso they offer...very yummy. My husband likes spice and really liked their hottest sauce. Get the carnitas, their pork is very flavorful. We enjoyed it and will be going back.

Delicious Mexican Food

We had a delicious take out dinner. Everything that we ordered was very good and we were able to order a container of pre-mixed Margarita's that was delicious.

Poor Breakfast, Poor Service!

By dwgibbs |

We went to breakfast this past Saturday, per the recommendation from friends. From the second we walked in the door, one could sense that something wasn't right. The host looked at us like we'd just step off a spaceship! Instead of greeting us with a smile and offering us a table, he stood dumbfounded until we directly asked "We'd like breakfast. May we have a table for two?" He then tried to seat us at a table in the middle of the walkway from the kitchen, so we had to asked for another table. It was strange! There were too many staff for the size of the place and the size of the crowd: most of the time there were two or three staff idling at the bar. Overall, the staff seldom smiled and clearly acted like they didn't want to be there at all. At best, the service we received was indifferent. So for service and atmosphere, they get an "F". As for the food, I had the migas. I asked for chorizo to be added, but was told they didn't have chorizo. Now what decent Mexican breakfast place doesn't at least offer chorizo to customers who request it? This was a big shortcoming! The migas were only fair as they were served. I gave it "C". The friends who recommended this place admitted they had only had dinner while seated at the bar, and had not experienced breakfast nor waitstaff service. I would not recommend Eldorado Cafe. There are too many excellent choices for outstanding Mexican breakfasts in Austin to bother going back for poor service and mediocre food. F"

good food, no soul

Excellent mole sauce on enchiladas, friendly servers, and good value but I prefer more Mex than Tex. This place is sanitary and very white- try Borrego de Oro for an even better mole and a more authentic experience.

Eldorado Cafè Review

By Ahmad Hatab |

Hidden spot in the north shoal creek area. Mexican comfort food. Their house made salsas are their signature. Will definitely be back to try more dishes. El Scorpio: Their hottest salsa, not my thing - 5/10 Salsa Fresca: fresh and mild - 7/10 Habanero Salsa: On the hotter end, but their tastiest salsa - 9/10 Drink: Prickly Pear Margarita: not very strong but quite tasty - 8/10 Entreè: Carnè Adovado: Slow cooked sirloin. Flavor here is really popping. It’s almost too salty, but with the sides and condiments it’s just about right. - 8.4/10 Overall: 7.9/10 Follow me on Instagram @ahmadeats for all the food and attractions

A quick stop and great food!

I really enjoyed this cafe while I was visiting my mom! The place is very friendly and is true Tex Mex Austin style. I did not wait long for my food and the food is delicious.

Just getting settled in but IMPRESSIVE

By Liz S |

A new Mexican spot is in town and it's already making waves. This place is in a small shopping mall kind of out of the way but it was still PACKED early on a Sunday night when I got there. Nice decor and comfortable space but REALLY GOOD food and drinks. Most complaints are about waiting, and they are still working out the kinks of how to run the place so be patient. Esme's mashed potato enchiladas are great, as was the Carnitas Cubanos we had. My daugher is a vegetarian and I was happy to see so much on the menu for her that was not just cheese. Well done!!! Freshly made margaritas with real lime juice worth the $7. I will be back, and I will continue to review it, but I say this one is a keeper.

Family-owned cafe

By Barbara-In-Austin |

The food is good with a Mexican influence It is a casual family-owned cafe. Popular, so there may be short wait. Lots of parking out front.

One of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin, TX

By ThomasJet |

My wife and I go here once a week with Grandson. Avocado salsa and enchiladas are our favorites. Caution there is usually a wait unless you go early as we do.

Kicked out at their discretion.

By vaterps71 |

Husband and I were waiting for a table and went to the bar and ordered drinks. There was one chair and he stood. While enjoying our drinks and speaking with the lovely bartender the host asked us to leave explaining there was a single patron who wanted the spot. I complained to the manager asking where this policy was written. She said it was “at their discretion” to ask paying customers to leave the bar area. After I mentioned I was going to write a not very favorable review of the treatment we were rudely asked to leave. I need to mention that my husband is a minority and I saw no other ethnic customers. The gentleman who took our seat was Caucasian. This felt very much like discrimination. The owner responded to my review and said he backed the manager. I’ve never been to a restaurant where a paying customer was removed from the bar area in favor of another patron. We went elsewhere and had a wonderful meal and with gracious servers. The restaurant has plenty of good reviews and I’m sure if you are of a certain “background” you’ll be welcome. You may want to look elsewhere if you don’t fit their customer profile.

Mexican Haute Cuisine

By Valpo73 |

A group of us were in Austin for a few days. Coming from the Midwest, we had been looking forward to some good and authentic Mexican food. Before going to the Eldorado, we had tried a couple of other Tex-Mex places. The general consensus amoung us was that these meals were OK to good. On our last night in Austin, a local friend suggested the Eldorado Cafe. She had never been, but had heard good things about it. So, we decided to give it a try. Boy ... we were all glad we did. From the minute we walked in, we received friendly, personable service. From the five different salsas to the main course, the food was outstanding. It was as if a trained chef had individually prepared each plate. The Enchiladas Verde was excellent. The enchiladas were served with beans and rice. I am not a fan of rice and will typically eat the beans and leave the rice. This meal was so good ... I even ate the rice! We have been home for a few days now and my wife is still raving about dinner at the Eldorado Cafe.

Take out arrangement is brilliant!

By Jerald M |

For Mother's Day dinner during these crazy times, my wife suggested El Dorado Cafe having had lunch there several times. I phoned in an order to pick up in the parking lot. We had the chicken enchiladas and Joel's Happy Plate with sides of guacamole and queso. The young lady on the phone was very helpful and pleasant, and the no- contact pick-up was brilliant! The presentation of the food, even as a take-out, was beautiful, appetizing. For me, the food was a little bit on the bland side or else I would have given it 5 stars. However, the pleasant phone contact, the brilliant, no contact pick-up, and the presentation of the food will have me coming back for more. I can always add salsa!

Not your same ol' enchalada

By wvlivingston |

The pluses: great food, quick and friendly service, good value. The only negative: if you're looking for a quiet restaurant where you can carry on a conversation, this probably isn't the best choice. The size of the crowd and the acoustics result in a low roar. The dishes are not typical Tex-Mex but much better. Each dish has unique blending of ingredients and sauces not typically found in Tex-Mex food. I usually do not order queso and chips at Mexican restaurants because the cheese tastes like it came out of a squeeze tube. Someone in our group ordered queso and chips for our table. It was a great blend of cheese and sauce with blended black and fried been in the center and was fantastic, and the serving size was generous. All menu items are reasonably priced and bountiful servings. I could not have eaten more. You may encounter a wait to get a table. We were lucky. We were a table of 7 and were there at 1:30 on a Saturday, and a large table opened up as we were walking in. However, those in our group who eat here regularly said typically there is a wait. The decor is somewhat quirky which fits Austin perfectly.

A family favorite

By farleiii |

We almost go weekly. I do recommend take out because it can get very busy. I’m a big fan of their tostadas, Chen Chile pork guisos and sesame arbol salad dressing. Their salsa X is out of this world and I have dropped by there to have some for at home. It’s an Austin staple supposedly created by a former taco deli chef.

Very good Mexican food!

By Jay F |

Ordered takeout from Eldorado for the first time so ordered a variety of items: Classic Beef Enchiladas, Short Rib Enchiladas, Chips and Salsa Sampler, and Guacamole. The Salsa Sampler came with five different salsas ranging from mild to "Scorpio" which is pretty hot. An interesting and good introduction which went well with the Guacamole. Everything was good solid Mexican food. The enchiladas were very good though we found the "Classic" less appealing yhan the Short Ribs. Their black beans and rice are also above average. All together a good first experience and we will look forward to ordering again.

Run, don’t walk!

By d e |

We are over the moon to have such an amazing eating establishment so close to home. Too many fabulous offerings to mention all. Just start with the salsa sampler - you will not be disappointed!

New Fave

By farleiii |

Get the Salsa X! The sesame arbol dressing for their salads is next level! Green chile pork guisos with calabasas was my go to for a while but now their beef tostadas have my full attention. The wait is terrible there so call ahead or-better yet get take out!

Dinner

By Woody H |

Nice, clean space with a good vibe. The salsa sample is a must. Mild to hot hot! Mix them for a good combination. I had the Mojo Pollo. It was grilled and beautifully seasoned. The vegetable sides were crazy good especially the squash. The margaritas are awesome. Stay away from the Cadillac version...the house is 3 x better. Alex was our server and he was excellent...attentive, prompt, and nice guy.

Average Tex Mex

By Kathleen C |

Stopped here for lunch because it was recommended as one of the new top ten restaurants in austin. They offered a salsa sampler that was a fun way to try new salsas. My husband was surprised by the sweet sauce on his beef enchiladas, but said that they were good. My chicken nachos were ok, nothing special. The stewed pork was very good, but the vegetable hash had an unpleasant aftertaste to them. Would probably go again, but not as a first choice.

Comfort food!!

By Karen G |

Food was very tasty. I had the Huevos Texicano, my husband had the Nomad. Both portions were the right amount. The refried black beans along with the 3 potato hash blended just right for our tastebuds. We topped it off with generous servings of chocolate mousse and flan. Wait staff courteous and effecient.

Great local option

By BTMNSP |

I went twice last month (that in itself speaks volumes to the strengths). So one warning - they are not kidding when they say their HOT salsa is mouth scaldingly flavored. I preferred the mild - and drank 32 fewer glasses of H2O than my lunch mates who dipped in the yellow lava. But we were all quite happy. Chips have substance. They hand breakfast dishes and I had a chicken taco and a side of rice. Again. All clean plates and full tummies. The time I went before twas for dinner, I got a beef quesadilla and it was ok - except I was not a huge fan of ground beef. They don’t have a frozen Margarita machine (which I still enjoy as if i was getting an icee when I was eight years old in the middle of August - pure bliss). So for me, this place seems a better lunch / breakfast place. They do have a full bar, just not the icee that I adore with Mexican food dinner. Overall, I liked it and the environment.

A hidden gem with great salsas

By Lucie_tx |

Somebody recommended this hidden unknown joint for work lunch, and the whole party was really enjoying our visit: - the interior is decorated with a taste - their salsa selection that comes with chips over-achieved even with our critical crowd - the watermelon lemonade (aqua fresca) as well as prickly pear margaritas got two-thumbs up - the food was tasty (veg and non-veg people happy) and service good So this is definitely place we will return to despite that we had to wait (there go the drinks) as the seating doesn't keep up with the supply, a great problem to have for a restaurant.

Nice Mexican food

First time here and was pleased with service and quality of food. Met friends and we all had something different. Everyone was happy. Will definitely go back next time we have an opportunity.

A joyful meal

By Cap B |

With so many quality choices, I would choose Eldorado Cafe for excellence in Mexican food quality, service, and location, even though it is in a strip mall. The breakfast and lunch options are prepared and presented with care. They have a variety of hot sauces, and I can’t decide which I like the most. There is always a wait on the weekends, but worth it. The owners are always on hand, greeting customers as they would in their own home.

Saturday night after driving sxsw

By funkikker |

What can I say. Well worth the wait. Got the queso to start off with. Waiter asked what type of hot sauce. So I went for hottest they had. Boy it was HOT but good. Then asked for a more tomato based one with dinner. I can’t remember what the name was but it was very good. The service was very attentive and responsive. I’ll go back and make the trip from Seguin a good 65 mile drive.

Great neighborhood place

By Texan4life |

Tried the Eldorado Cafe as suggested by a friend, and this will definitely become a regular place in North Austin. The staff are overly accomodating, and the food was excellent. Their signature items are the Shiny Ribs, and the Papas rellenas(stuffed potatoes). They have a mix of enchiladas, including some vegan options. Its comfortable, the music in the background was great, could easily spend an afternoon working through the various items on the menu, they are all good

Great Mexican breakfast.

By Joshua B |

What a fantastic experience.... First time in this restaurant and it was a Wow!!! The place is very nice with great atmosphere. Service is quick and very pleasant. The menus is amazing with great variety and delicious dishes. The coffee was fantastic and very quickly refilled . The food was perfect and tasty, arrived at perfect temperature and beautifully plated.

Price, Flavor - Winning Combination

By 4NY2VA |

Table of 3 on Sunday around 11am and we had about a 10 minute wait. Very popular place and may be difficult to seat a large group (5+). After eating here, I think it's worth the wait. We chose breakfast plates and biscuits (and home made jam) and was happy with the portions and the price! Free chips while waiting was also good. Definitely worth the drive if coming from downtown.

Excellent all the way around

By LiveLifeLove222 |

Margaritas, sangria, salsa sampler, nachos, and entrees ... the six of us tried it all and all full of great flavor, spice and not Tex mex. service was perfect, prompt, and accommodating. YAY! The Cuban influence was in every dish and D-LISH! Highly recommend.

Popular with good reason

By hungry2eat |

We have eaten here on two occasions, once for lunch at the bar and once for dinner with eight people in the evening. Lunch was busy but the two of us got immediate seating for our meal at the bar, and enjoyed conversation there with another couple. For the evening we couldn't really reserve for a group of eight but could let them know half an hour ahead so they might prepare. Our wait was perhaps 20 minutes before we had a large corner table. Service was prompt and friendly, including a neighborly conversation with the manager. I enjoyed the Carnitas Cubanos, roast pork in a Cuban style citrus garlic mojo.

Awesome

By Woody W |

Very unique and excellent food. All four of us committed how good our food was. Two had been there before. The owner and manager both made rounds to check how everything was. Don't miss this place or the crispy carnitas.

Delicious Food, Slow service.

By Gail M |

Today six of us selected The El Dorado café as our lunch spot. The location offers plenty of on-site parking and although they do not take reservations I had called earlier in the day to let them know the six of us would be coming. We waited for about 10 minutes to be seated. Our server was knowledgeable about the food however she knew nothing about cocktails. After everyone was served their cocktails, my best advice is to stick to beer and wine and do not order the margaritas. Several of the drinks were sent back and the rest were tolerated. The food is an entirely different subject. Every dish was a winner! We started with the large queso Blanca and guacamole which were served with crispy tortilla chips. I would describe the food as regional interior Mexican comfort food. The salads were fresh and crisp, the sauces flavorful and meat dishes were tender and savory. Now back to the service. After finishing the apps, our server returned to our table to report that our orders had been lost and she had to start over again. That was disappointing. Hopefully a one time occurrence. That food was so delicious, a return trip to Eldorado Cafe is defiantly in order!

Our go-to spot in the neighborhood

By Donna S |

I have nothing but high praise for Eldorado Cafe's food and service. DH and I have visited a handful of times and always find our food choices to be flavorful and plentiful (although we rarely have leftovers because it's so darn good!). The salsas are wonderful; I recommend ordering the salsa sampler on your first visit, deciding on your favorite, then ordering that on any return trips. Every entree we've ordered has been delicious. (It's important to note that the food isn't traditional Tex-Mex; it's "Mexican inspired comfort food.") The servers and bartenders have always been friendly and helpful, as have the hosts/hostesses. Be prepared to wait for a table at just about any time of day, any day of the week; Eldorado Cafe is THAT popular and for good reason. You always see one of the owners/managers walking through the restaurant, checking on tables and making sure everything is to the diners' satisfaction. We're lucky to have Eldorado Cafe in the neighborhood.

Not too loud with good food

By Jen78703 |

One of our constant issues with most dining spots in Austin is having to SHOUT to be heard. The noise level didn't seem too bad here- perhaps because there are not 100 tables jammed into the space. It's easy to walk around. There's a bar along one side with a few lower seats. There are also tables outside- nothing interesting though just tables on a sidewalk but it's still nice to just be outside. Servers were all very pleasant. The food came promptly. My hubby ordered the chicken quesadilla- it was very dry as is (without adding sour cream/salsa etc...) and he didn't care for it. I ordered the short rib salpicion and it came with about a tablespoon of 2 sides. I expected the adobo to be more savory, it was a tad too sweet for me. You get chips and 1 salsa free. Additional salsa choices (they have 5 to choose from) are $1.50 (I forgot to ask if you get free refills on the chips & salsa). We tried the fresh salsa (tasty and not too spicy) and the chileverde (tangy- perfect) I loved my tamarindo drink- no ice and tangy! Delicious. It's a sweet little place and the food was fine.

Nice little cafe, great salsas

By gustav2011 |

We stopped in for lunch while shopping in the area. Hip little cafe with very flavorful salsas. It was a bit loud and hard to hear/have a conversation but otherwise a nice atmosphere. Great waiter, gave us a lot of recommendations and explained the menu and their hours, when they serve breakfast and lunch etc. The carne and pork meals were awesome. A little pricey but good food. We were able to be immediately seated but there were larger parties waiting and all the tables were full when we left.

Mexican Miracle

By Jim T |

Eldorado has finally opened in more than just a pop-up location, so anytime is the right time for e visit. Cool decorations, a nice bar, friendly helpful wait-staff, and delicious food. The cook even visited each table one time we were there. The food is not your typical TexMex--it's better! They also have a good Sunday Brunch. Great chips & salsa, excellent queso, full bar...free parking. Be prepared to wait if you go at peak hours.

New Fav!

By Christine1213 |

Friends told us about this place and we joined them for a Wednesday night before the July 4th holiday; it was a 30-40 min wait. The wait was very worth it! The owner came outside checking on folks waiting and suggested the carnitas; it was excellent; some pieces a little crispy and just so tasty! Would get it again. Husband got Joel's Happy dinner and it was most excellent too; would definitely get that again too! We got the salsa sampler and the really hot one was just ok, not a lot of flavor and for us hot mouths, not really hot, hot! The others were good, but that's not their strong point for us. It was so good, we tried breakfast on Saturday and it was wonderful too. I got the Chilaquiles Rojas and I would definitely get that again. Took home a blueberry muffin - half muffin and half scone - and it was very good too! Would definitely highly recommend this place. It is a small place, fun & unique ~ totally Austin! Just know wait could be long because it is not a big place, but lots of folks go there! Good food is sometimes hard to find, so when you find it ~ go back! We will!

Something is missing

A new Mexican restaurant that's getting a lot of attention. I was disappointed in the food and the service. Others have expressed the same sentiments. I may try them again as they have had time to adjust.

Wow

By austin_TexasLkd |

I’m a regular and went for the first time Friday night. Easily the best choice for quality, flavor packed food on Anderson lane. Loved the clean homey ambience. The salsas were delish. Carnitas. Panela cheese. Rice beans tortillas everything was incredible. Can’t wait to go back to visit the friendly employees and Chef Joe Fried. Thank you

Delicious and Fresh Mexican Food

By Christine A |

Finally the skies opened up and dropped Eldorado Cafe into our 'hood! An angel must have heard our cries for some delicious Mexican fare nearby. We had tried their tasty food at Dia's Market when they had Friday Pop-Ups and loved everything. Now, we have a full menu to select from for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. And a wonderful bar! I stopped by for a quick bite after my workout so I could justify the large basket of chips. These are not just any chip but chips made perfectly in the kitchen using the owner's recipe. Crunchy and flavorful with five salsas, people. Five! Each one delicious and flavorful. Do try this bargain at $5.95. And I might as well admit it, I'm in love with the El Scorpio salsa! I could drink this stuff and use it as shampoo. My lunch of three sides, Seasoned Black Beans, 3 Potato Hash and Las Calabasas, was more than filling. I have a second lunch for tomorrow. Olivia, my server, was so sweet and informative as was Jessie, the GM. I am looking forward to seeing them both again, and many more tasty and delicious meals at Eldorado Cafe with family and friends. They do have a pup friendly outdoor area with a few tables.

Great Food & Service

By docwhiteaustin |

Stopped in on Saturday afternoon for late lunch. Had the salsa sampler to start. Both enjoyed the three milder varieties best. Fresh red salsa was indeed fresh tasting though mild heat level. Avocado salsa was also mild but tasty. The hotter ones were a bit too smoky for our taste, but definitely HOT! We each had the T House #3 Chalupa. Great light lunch item. ( We were regulars for decades at the Tamale House on Airport Blvd.-- also the inspiration for the salsa we liked best.) Shared a combo of 3 sides - three potato hash, mixed squash w/pepitas, and queso rice. All very tasty. Have previously tried their carnitas, several types of enchiladas, and shredded sirloin dishes. Always very good with friendly service and reasonable prices. Good margaritas, too.

Fantastic new restaurant in NWHills Austin!

By d e |

Yes! We love Eldorado Cafe! Where to start? Breakfast, lunch or dinner - all three experiences were memorable. Nice staff, super cool decor and delicious and unique Latin cuisine. The salsa sampler is a must! Lots of parking - and they need it. Already a hot spot to enjoy a great meal. Congrats Joel!

Fab fare in a casual setting

By Norman Walsh |

I had a quick supper at Eldorado Cafe. Everything we had was absolutely delicious: shiny ribs, nachos compuestos with pico de gallo, and papas rellenas. The decor is a sort of eclectic casual. Definitely looking forward to my next visit.

Tasty veggies!

My husband got an El Cabo grilled chicken and I selected 3 vegetable selections, squash, veggie selection, and mashed potatoes. It was good.w

Best Tex Mex I've ever had

By Dan Bagby |

The flavors here are what makes the difference. First, they have 5 salsas to choose from with your chips, or you can get a sampler and try them all. The queso is perfect. I've had the Enchiladas with short ribs each time and they are amazing. Get there early to avoid a long wait.

So Good!!

By Laker |

The food here is as good if not better than anywhere, can’t wait to go back, especially to the bar, great drinks.

Awesome food/drinks!

By Jess46809 |

We are in Austin often and this was our first visit to El Dorado Cafe! We went on a busy Friday evening and there was a wait which was to be expected. There is not a lot of room to wait inside but outside was an option and the weather was nice. After a bit, We were lucky enough to snag a couple seats at the bar and have a drink while awaiting our table. The margaritas were excellent and priced normally for the area and the chips and salsa were delicious. They offer a variety of salsas depending on your taste. Once we sat down at our table, our server was attentive and our food was brought to us promptly for as busy as it was. I would eat here again without question!

Best Tex Mex in Austin!!

By betty b |

I recently went to Eldorado Cafe for my 56th birthday dinner. As always, the best Tex Mex in Austin. I had the sirloin tampiquena with refried black beans and rice. It was delicious and honestly enough for two people. I had left overs for a full lunch the next day. They also had a special to get gauc, queso and salsa for $8 bucks and all proceeds were to be donated to a local horse charity. Of course we ordered that. The queso is probably the best in Austin and the guac was super fresh and tasty. My dining companions ordered one of the vegetarian bowls and the other Eldorado's version of tacos el pastor. Everyone loved their food. Another highlight was desert. We ordered the flan (which they brought out with a birthday candle, awe!!!!!) and the fried cinnamon donuts with strawberry sauce. I also had one house margarita that was amazing and only $10 dollars. I cannot recommend this place enough. #1 the quality, #2 the great pricing and #3 the incredible staff. Just be sure to make reservations, even for lunch. This is one popular spot!

A delight for your tastebuds…

By Chérie D |

My son and I both had the beef enchilada mole but picked a couple veggie sides instead of the sides listed with it.My son said he usually seasons his food but for the first time, this didn’t need it. Simply delicious. We had the cinnamon donuts with raspberry dip for dessert They came hot and were literally melt in your mouth, cinnamony, exquisite light texture just perfect, a treat for your tastebuds. These are the best donuts I have ever tasted in my life. No exaggeration.

Delicious Salsa! One of Our New Favorites!

By Bill D |

Family meal at El Dorado was a fantastic experience. We have eaten at dozens of Mexican restaurants in Austin and this has jumped to the top of our list. We ordered the salsa sampler and it was fabulous. All of the salsas were fresh and tasty. In our view, this has the best salsa selection in town. For our meal, we ordered the Carne Adovado, the Carnitas, and an enchilada sampler. While all of our meals were good, we all agreed that the Carne Adovado was our favorite - a tender steak cooked in a savory red chile sauce. We will definitely eat here again.

I get the hype!

By 2cool4theroom |

We finally got around to trying Eldorado. Through Favor, we ordered the queso, guacamole, "shiny ribs" as a small plate, enchiladas verde, and the short rib enchiladas. The ribs were the weakest link - adequate, but not as good as the pork ribs available at any Austin BBQ joint. However, the queso and guaco were excellent. The chips were even crispy the next day. But the stars of the show were the enchiladas. They reminded me of the late great Las Manitas. They were simply perfection.

Delicious. Great new neighborhood option! Great Happy Hour!

By Brad B |

Glad to see a new addition to this neighborhood. Delicious food. Really enjoyed the Guisas de la Casa (have tried the short rib and the carnitas so far). Margaritas are well made. Happy hour is a great deal! Staff is friendly.

Tasty mexican food with lovely service!

By Petra B |

One of our bast mexican food experience in Texas. I would deffinetly go back if i could. Real autentic mexican food with good drinks!

Just dinner for us

By deaniesullivan |

OMG delicious. One of the best finds after 5 years in Austin. House margaritas are really good. Skip the top shelf unless you’re into more sweet drinks. The Eldorado Salsa sampler is a must. But whatever entree you choose, get the Las Calabasas. Alex was our waiter. Even though seems super busy, he was attentive and on top of requests. Desserts to go for us. Can’t wait to come back.

Excellent Mexican Breakfast!!!

By J E |

While staying in the area a friend told us to try this place for great Tex-Mex food and he was right! As first I was worried when I walked in and didn’t see anyone that “looked” Mexican (all white people up front), but their food was on-point! From their various salsas to the selection of interesting brunch/breakfast items on their menu to the execution, it was all spot-on and tasted great! Service was excellent as well! We sat at the bar and the young lady who helped us (she had multiple piercings and tats and was skinny) was awesome! Very knowledgeable about the menu and friendly!! Highly recommend stopping in here for an excellent Mexican breakfast!

Outstanding food

By Richard K |

Went here with family who now lives in Austin. Great Mexican dishes. The chips and quest sauces were very good. The enchiladas are all very good especially Rene’s awesome enchilada. Reasonable price. Place was very busy. Colorful decoration.

Tucked Away - A Pleasant Surprise (And Inexpensive)

By Marion M |

We tried a new venue in Austin and this one belongs on your list. A little crowded and we had to wait but we soon found out why - the food is outstanding! Tacos - good. Enchiladas - good. Nachos - good. And the salsa was very unique and tasty. But the best news of all - priced very reasonably. Will go back.

Our Austinite daughter knows the best food

Had a short wait at lunch. Definitely worth it. Freshest food, amazing flavors! Really woke up the taste buds. Tortillas, salsa, everything was great!

Great Modern Interpretations of Mexican Food

By Counterweight |

I recently had lunch here with my wife, she had several friends who had raved about Eldorado so we decided to give it a shot for a weekday lunch. It's located in the space that used to be Alborz Mediterranean (for Austin locals), there is plentiful parking though it is kind of tucked away off Anderson Ln (close to MoPac). We were surprised to have a 15 minute wait, apparently word is out that Eldorado is a fun place to eat. My vegetarian wife ordered their vegetarian enchiladas, she liked them but didn't think they were great. I opted for a couple small plates, I went with the puzchkas (fried pastries with bacon, mashed potatoes and caramelized onions), which were great, and the potato sopes, which were excellent. The short ribs were so good, together with the pickled onions, slaw and potato "tortilla", I loved every bite. We had the avocado salsa with chips to start our meal, it was OK but the tang was a bit overwhelming. I also didn't like their cola, not sure what brand they serve but it tasted like it was Stevia-sweetened which I hate. Also didn't love our server, the other servers around us seemed friendly and attentive but our server seemed put out every time we tried to ask a question or ask for something. All that being said, I really enjoyed the meal and the overall ambiance in Eldorado, and I will definitely be dining here again soon.

Feels Like Puerto Vallarta !

By CowpokerMike |

Eldorado is a relatively new restaurant in an already crowded city of great food. However, despite the Austin challenge to be recognized , Eldorado is drawing a loyal crowd and often has SRO waiting for a table. The reason is the creative decor (feels like the old Oceanic in Puerto Vallarta) and amazingly creative yet familiar food. Like salsa? How about five choices ? Try them all ! The breakfast taco is generous, fresh and tasty. Try the short rib salpicon-shredded short rib, with hot tortillas, guacamole and pickled onion. The enchiladas are closer to authentic Mexican than Tex-Mex. The waitstaff is sincerely friendly and attentive. Put this on your list ! It is in a shopping area of North Austin, just a block off of Loop 1 (MOPAC) at the Anderson Exit. This place is cool and comfortable and bustling.

Well made food, but

We thought the food was well made with care, but there seem to be something lacking in the flavors or our tastebuds could have been off that night. The place was full of activity and staff friendly. It seems like a nice family place. Service=3.5, Food=3, Vallue=3

Good local Tex mex

What a hidden gem! It’s located in a business area I would never have gone to if it hadn’t been recommended. It’s a busy little place. We actually enjoyed the wait to get a table because they bring you chips and salsa and you can even order drinks while you wait. We all enjoyed our meals- good size portions and very tasty. The refried black beans are the star of the plate. Our server was not the greatest, but thankfully everything else made our visit enjoyable.

A very unexpected find

I’m fairly new to the area and I live on the southwest side, so when I had an appointment on the northside, I happened to look up what was near me for lunch options. This one popped up and had good reviews so I figured I’d try it out since it was only a few minutes away from where my appointment was. I was not prepared to walk in for lunch and see the place packed and about eight people waiting for a table. Immediately I was overwhelmed and contemplated leaving to go somewhere else. The people that worked there were so nice and accommodating and try to find me a place at the bar. There was something about the place in which I felt I had stumbled across somewhere with a lot of history and a local following. I was very excited for the food! I could tell everything was handcrafted, and the nice fusion between traditional and new age Mexican cuisine. The food was excellent, and all the people that work there wanted you to feel comfortable. I also felt like they all enjoyed their job. Patrons eagerly waited for others to get up and leave so they could get a seat and enjoy a great meal. Some butts barely left the chairs as other ones were trying to sit on them. Lol When I got home, I looked up the restaurant to find out about its history and realized one of the owners came up to personally ask me how everything was, and was incredibly friendly. If I’m back in the area again, I would definitely love to eat there!

Excellent restaurant, service, location, and, of course, amazing food

Eldorado Cafe is a great find. The food is wonderful. The service is beyond any I have experienced. Eldorado cafe is a true local restaurant. They even have vegan dishes so the menu has been created with all tastes in mind. Eldorado cafe is conveniently located right off Mopac. Great for a meal break while driving through Austin. I cannot wait to go back.

Hidden gem for sure

This place has been a go to for us for over a year. A few folks from the major Austin taco shops have created this gem. It’s off the beaten path in a sleepy strip mall that’s kind of hidden. But the food.. and the vibe.. it’s so nice seeing this place slammed and seeing them keep improving. The menu has advanced and there are regularly new specials. Today I had some beef on a potato tostada (sorry I forgot th name).. wife always gets esmes magic but subs out the ancho salsa for the tangy verde. Keep it up

Average - entrees were good, sides not as much m

This came as a strong recommendation from two people who claimed it was the best Mexican EVER. I had the salsa sampler. The salsas were good but not really my style. I like just regular, smooth, red salsa which these were not. Chips were great. Warm and probably fresh made. I had a three enchilada plate. The enchiladas were excellent. Very dark sauce almost like a molé sauce. They were definitely the star of the show. The sides were rice and black beans. I don’t really like black beans so that’s not my style. The rice was an apparent white rice with cilantro but chock full of vegetables. I am a staunch opponent to anything in my rice besides rice. I love rice. But not infested with vegetables. So overall, the enchiladas were great. The sides not really. For those reasons I have to downgrade from very good to average. I feel I can get just as good of enchiladas elsewhere AND have better sides.

Outstanding Breakfast!

Outstanding breakfast! The blueberry muffin was phenomenal, but even the potatoes were well above par. And the Christmas decorations are whimsical

Fresh. Friendly. Fabulous.

I wish I could eat at Eldorado every day, but I'd have to buy all new clothes. The food is fantastically fresh. The cocktails are perfect. The service is pleasant. The owner always makes a point to check in and make sure that all is well, which gives me that personal connection that I love and adore in a restaurant. It's actually a very class touch on his part. For the record, I travel about 90 days a year and I eat a lot of restaurants; I only wish I felt as satisfied with them all the way I feel when I am at Eldorado Cafe.
