Great place!

By Mathis Z |

I ordered steamed mussels! Very good! Good stuff! I recommend this place! They service local Chicago beers in draught!

Pub Grub

By Joanne T |

My friends and I stopped by at 3p for an afternoon snack. We liked the friendly pub atmosphere and the waiter was particularly charming and helpful. Happy hour had just begun so we had 1/2 price appetizers. The warm, soft pretzels with warm beer cheese dip were the best!!! We also had hummus with naan and grilled peri peri chicken skewers that were good.

Nice taste of home!

By James H |

As we were staying next door at the Virgin Hotel we decided to give this our first night for our dinner out. Friendly welcome and quick service for water and taking our orders. Food was good, not great. I had the Chicken hot pot and the pastry lid was so thin, it needed to be about 5 times thicker, the inside wasn't thick enough, and salad as a side, it needed mash potatoes and peas. My girls had the Sunday roast, they said the Yorkshire pudding was too thin and greasy. To make this better the food as above, but if this is to be a proper British pub then just play British music like the Beatles, Oasis, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and so many more. On the TV instead of rounders (sorry baseball) you need to be showing epic Premier League games of football (not soccer). Otherwise a nice place.

I'm being kind with a 3 rating

By jlasgood |

My husband liked this place but I did not. He was really hungry when he got there so I think that played a big part in his opinion. My vote is this is just an average restaurant. The ambiance was nice - looked like a British pub, had British decor and played Beatles etc. Biggest negative was the bathroom. I walked down the stairs to where the bathrooms are and was hit with an odor so bad - I thought it was connected to the subway. Actually, I think the subway is cleaner. Got to the ladies room and it was not foul. To their defense, someone was trying to mop up something in the hallway to the bathrooms - I think he was using urine instead of cleaning solution though. As I walked back up the stairs, I was almost physically ill from the smell. Once back at the table, I was still a little green from my experience. Husband decided to forgo washing his hands after my experience. Our waitress was not very attentive and we had to flag her down to get any refills.

Love this pub!

Second time to visit and I loved it just as much as the first time great food selection and service is outstanding.

fun

By Lisa R |

We have gone three times, and have always had a great experience. It is like an upscale English pub. The food is good and the wait staff is awesome. They keep later hours on the weekends which is nice if you are seeing a play. . We had appetizers and a dessert around 11:00 pm

Rainy Sunday Morning

By RJames1950 |

On a rainy and windy November morning this restaurant was warm and inviting in a very typical English way. A warm fire and delicious breakfast with a great waitress, Sovanna, made for a trip across the pond but right here in downtown Chicago

Perfect Irish bar

By Jeff N |

This bar is excellent. Great staff. Super friendly and great service. Went here twice on my 4 night trip to Chicago. Met some great people. Good conversations. Just what a bar should be. Food was very good service great. Never went with an empty drink. Great Irish atmosphere.

Excellent service and great food.

We stopped randomly because the restaurant looked busy. Best decision ever. Great staff and excellent food.

Great Pub!

By Julie |

Had a wonderful time here - the drinks, food and service were awesome. Hakim was a great server! Pub has plenty of nice outdoor seating with umbrellas.

Service was very poor and when food did arrive it was cold, extremely bland and beige looking. Disappointing.

Cozy, tasty, great atmosphere

By Junie1717 |

Met up w my mom and we had fish and chips, Shepherds Pie! Yummy. Fireplace blazing while it snowed on a cold Chicago evening. Really nice. Would go back anytime I get the chance!

Great Local Bar

By Foodange |

This bar was just round the corner from our 'hotel' and we sat outside a few times right underneath the metro line, drinking local beer and watching the world go by. You don’t get overhead train lines like this in the UK so we really did feel we were on holiday in America!

Good English pub

By Andrew H |

Nice to find and English pub! Prices are fair and the London Pride is a good pint but they need more staff on a busy day

Near the hotel

By Mark |

This restaurant was across my hotel. It was cold and I found no good options nearby. The sweepsteak sandwich was just good. The meat could be better grilled, rather the cooked. Anyway, a nice place if you don’t want to walk much.

Closer than the UK

By DGKalina |

Dined at the Elephant and Castle prior to a concert at the nearby Chicago Theatre. It was a chilly night, so I appreciated that we were seated near the (gas) fireplace. Service was prompt and efficient. Food was decent - typical pub grub. My wife had the lamb burger that was quite good. The chicken pot pie was acceptable. Decent selection of domestic and imported beers of draft. Nice to see London Pride available, although served too cold.

Delicious food and great service!

By DillyLo |

Great service, delicious food, reasonable prices for the Loop! We had the sausage rolls which were juicy and crispy, the fish and chips with extra filet to share, and the lychee coconut margaritas. Everything was delicious and without fault. Our waiter was Brett and he was funny and very helpful with the menu and suggestions. Wr highly recommend it!

Elephant and Castle

Loved this casual English pub. The food was great- especially the poutine!! Service was quick and attentive.

Great meal

Great fish and chips for dinner tonight. And our waitress was wonderful (I’m sorry that I forgot her name). She was very professional, friendly, and attentive.

Very Authentic British Pub

By Chris H |

I love going to London. When I'm there, I love going to a pub, having a pint or two and sampling british pub fare like fish and chips, yorkshire pudding or something else that catches my eye. The only difference between this place and real British pubs is that the Elephant and Castle has TV's. But, hey, we are in American after all. Their beer selections includes Kronenburg and Fullers London Pride! I was there with a friend and we ordered the Yorkshire Pudding, The Fish & Chips and the Butter Chicken. They were all quite delicious. Except for a few "chips" there wasn't much left on our plates. We even tried the Bread Pudding (but would have preferred to have sticky toffee pudding - but it's not on the menu). There was nothing wrong with our dessert choice though. We didn't have a reservation and was told there would be a 45 minute wait. They had a seated before we finished our beers at the bar while waiting. I would certainly come back here again - especially when I can't get to London!

A great English Pub downtown

By GenotheViking |

I ran Into this great place because I was in a rainstorm. Lucky me. The fish and chips were fantastic and the tartar sauce was certainly different but good. Nice atmosphere with a good menu and great service. A good place to walk to from all the great hotels downtown.

Normal place

By Alex |

Nice pub in citycentre. Service is fast. Staff is polite. Snacks, beers and cocktails, but also you can find here and main dishes.

Fun Atmosphere!

By Melissa |

We stopped here for the name and left with some of the best food we had in Chicago! Enjoyed the best pretzel bites! Um, SO GOOD! Also enjoyed the salmon salad.

Good English Pub Grub

By Leslie S |

First off, the service here was great. We stopped in for lunch during the holidays and four of us were seated fast even though it was busy. Grace, our server took time and explained and made a few good suggestions, she took great care of us. Our food was good, especially the steak and mushroom pie, and the butter chicken. I like that you can still get domestic beers as well as a huge list of other beers. It was cozy and fun and the place still had TVs for your viewing pleasure. We lingered with Spanish coffee without feeling like we needed to leave for other guests coming in. I would definitely return here.

Surly service, one good entree, good dessert

By Ruth M |

We stopped here for an early dinner after coming back from a Cubs game. Fish and chips were pretty good, but the parmesan truffle fries were disappointing: little truffle flavor and the parmesan wasn't fresh, it was like the stuff from the green canister from the supermarket. We indulged in the brownie ice cream dessert, which was pretty large and good. Our waitress obviously didn't want to be there. The food runners were great, though - I wish I could have tipped just them instead of her. The bathrooms are in the basement, and it was kind of spooky down there. I seldom get spooked, but I went by myself and was very wary. The music downstairs was very loud, so you couldn't hear if anyone was around. Kind of odd set-up, particularly with the bar directly at the top of the stairs.

Dependable, affordable, and a great Chicago Theater district location

By Jason |

Great location for Chicago's theater district. A nice casual meal right before a show, and always dependable food. Also won't break the bank. However, they need to bring back their yummy poutine.

Nice atmosphere

By Marcia C |

The music was great and the waitress recommended the chicken pot pie. Thought it was odd that it was served with a salad ( that's not how its done in England) but it was pretty good. My friends the lamb burger and the veggie burger which they both enjoyed It was ok for a reasonable price

Good English Pub Food

By gstrange8 |

Conveniently located in the Loop. A bit on the shabby side but good food and service. Covering on my booth seat was ripped and taped. That didn't make me enjoy the fish and chips any less. Looks reasonably clean. Had a late lunch there and it was not crowded at all. Soccer match playing on the big screen. I was rather drafty and cool. I prefer my pubs on the cozy side. The fish was haddock and very good. Well prepared. With salt and malt vinegar it was excellent. Fried were good but not outstanding. I will go back.

Excellent Bloody Mary's

By Ryan Q |

Stopped in for a Saturday morning bloody mary, they were great! The bartender working that morning was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend having a drink in here if you are in the area.

Great Location, Good Food

By Mike C |

I recently ate at Elephant & Castle when I was staying at a nearby hotel in Chicago. The location is fantastic, right in the theatre district, close to shopping and the L. The food was good, the bartender was friendly. Overall, just a pleasant experience.

Good English food and beer for homesick Brits

By 751simonn |

Delighted to find well kept English beer on tap here - Bombardier and London Pride were on when we visited. Really enjoyed the good food, and thrilled they had a gluten free bun option, so I could enjoy a hamburger for the first time in about 5 years. My wife had the Indian curry and it was really good too. Not much pub atmosphere, but they have tried hard with the decor and it had a nice feel to it, so we will go back next time we visit Chicago. Friendly servers and good prices (for Chicago) too.

Yummy Pie

By Gator |

Dropped in off the street. Didn’t really know what this place was. Had a beer. The pie was quite delish and the side salad was just right.

Definately Worth a Visit

By Lisa H |

We don’t normally look for traditional UK food when we travel but we decided to pop in here for dinner. We weren’t disappointed. It was busy and had a great atmosphere. We were served shortly after we arrived and the food came and it was great. Mum had the Fish & Chips and I had the Sunday Roast. As these aren’t traditional American dishes I did wonder what to expect with the Yorkshire Pud and the Roast Beef but it was delicious, and Mum’s Fish & Chips was great too. Great portions and served hot too. Our server was Shayenne and she was friendly welcoming and provided great service and recognised us on our return.

Good bar food

By Lil_msbeautiful |

E&C has good bar food. I like the wraps. Can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. I like the ourdoor seating during the summer months.

We enjoyed it despite the train noise.

By LeePulaski_Va_ |

We had planned to sit inside, but the AC was too cold. We enjoyed sitting outside except that the trains are just overhead and quite noisy. You have to pause your conversation for the train to pass. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our meal. After a slow start, the service was good. I really liked my bangers and mash. I would return, but I might sit inside.

Chicago's version of the classic English pub, with decent British food

By christopherbO9687MP |

This location of the Elephant & Castle is Chicago's version of the classic English pub, with decent British food and friendly service. I was here for some lunch, and got the "Wee Pie Flight" to get a small sample of each of their four traditional English pies. I'd had some of these pies in the past; this was a way to enjoy the full variety of this classic pub food. The pub's ambiance was very much classic English sports bar, with lots of English soccer league decorations. A nice way to have some British food.

Nice Pub

By Gustavo M |

Very clean and upbeat Pub downtown. Good menu options and prompt service .. lots of choices of draft beer

Chicago visit

By mirdob |

I patronized this chain restaurants many times in the past. Not this particular one before. What I expected that what I got. Average service and standard fish and chips portion. Sometimes you have craving for particular food and that is OK. It’s not place to come back except you are passing by the restaurant, very hungry and craving for fish and chips.

Reasonable and Delicious

By kas823 |

I love English pub food. Therefore. I checked out this restaurant's offerings. I liked the atmosphere. There was a range of food from fish and chips to some dishes from former colonies. What I chose to eat was the "wee pie flight": four small pot pies which mirrored the larger pies. I agree with my server and voted the potato-leek-cheese pie as my favorite. I can also recommend the shepherd, chicken, and steak choices. I had a spicy (no alcohol) Virginia Mary and a delicious caesar salad with the meal. The service was excellent. For a reasonable meal in the loop...this is the place.

Tasty English Food

By ViktorTrue |

For an English experience in Chicago, stop in to the Elephant & Castle. The food is a range of English classics, so think curries and stewed or roasted meats. While our food seemed to be lacking a bit of salt (you can always add some more rather than take it away), the flavors will still very good and the portions were nice-sized. We tried an appetizer of fried pickles - tasty and fun to eat. Service was prompt and pleasant and we enjoyed the stay. There is a pretty big list of drink possibilities as well.

Great Food - Great Customer Service

By 4498Shelly |

I had made a reservation through Open Table for this restaurant. However, when we went to check in at the hostess stand, they didn't show it. After a quick conversation with Mia, one of the hostesses, I realized I had made my reservation for their other location on Adams. Mia offered to seat us at this location and even called the other location and cancelled the reservation. (I didn't even realize they had two locations). Our server was Omar who did a great job! I was disappointed to find out that they were out of the Pub Chips & Fried Pickles appetizers when we tried to order both. It was only 6:30pm on a Friday evening - It seemed a little early to be out of items. However, we did get the wings which were very good. For my dinner, I had the Fish & Chips. The fish was amazing! It was probably the best fish I've had in a long time. Another person at our table had the Garlic Shrimp from the appetizer menu as her main dish and loved it. The atmosphere was nice - although a little noisy when we first got there. There were a lot of "after-work" people hanging out at the bar. As this crowd left, the noise subsided. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience!

British pub in Chicago

By Kelly Cathcart |

This place has a fun vibe. Instead of the typical 1950s, or just junk all over the walls, this place has a British theme. It is fun to see something different. The place was very crowded but we still received very good service. They offer a lot of beer choices. The food was very good. It was fresh, hot and serviced quickly.

A bit of British fare

By Dionne B |

We purposely went here because of the menu. The restaurant was very inviting with lots of character. We ordered the Yorkshire pudding with roast beef. I must admit it was disappointing. A small side of slightly overcooked Yorkshire pudding was topped with what appeared to be more of a deli, boiled beef. The gravy was sparse and a light brown instead of a richer beef gravy. Maybe need to order something else!

Just Average…Nothing Special

By marnankev2 |

Just average food, that the servers know so little about, getting what they told you was available is a chore. Even when the rest of your party has already received everything they ordered. We do not recommend.

Outstanding Service & Delish Food!

By Chicago_FJR |

Many thanks to Alisha and Samuel for excellent service and to Chef and crew for tasty food that was wonderfully presented, we enjoyed ourselves immensely and thank everyone for their hard work! In fact, this was our 2nd visit in as many weeks. We were here a couple of weeks ago before a show and it was packed but our meals were delivered promptly, accurately, and (again!), tasted wonderfully on both occasions. We had nothing but a wonderful experience. Our group of 8 all had some version of dietary restrictions but Chef & Team more than delivered satisfying food quickly and beautifully laid out. We couldn't have asked for more. Last night, when we were seated outside, Alisha greeted us warmly and immediately made mention of a friend's food allergy (thanks for your attention to detail, Alisha!). Once again our drinks were refilled, food delivered promptly, and topped with excellent service. We think the menu offers something for everyone, we're burger people so don't stray too far and we are more than happy, esp. the Blue Cheese Burger! Thanks E & C (on Wabash)! You all rock! Fraudulent and deceptive! BEWARE

By Kristena H |

The service was sub-par. The waitress, Yessica, seemed like she was rushing us along and the food runner not helpful, somewhat counterproductive in the whole process. The real reason I am giving this the lowest rating possible is that our server put into the system that we were a party of 6, when we were only 5. This forced an 18% gratuity that wasn't deserved. This is a deceptive and unethical practice, so beware when dining at this restaurant! Apparently, there's another location in town, so I suggest seeking one of those instead if you're really needed to dine here.

Outdoor seating in the summer

By Kate Illinois1 |

Start with the fried pickles. Ale and oinion soup is very good. The pub classic entrees are good like stuffed yorkshire pudding, chicken pot pie, fish and chips..... Service was good and love sitting outside on nice days.

thirsty

By David M |

popped in for a refreshing beer or two whilst exploring Chicago on foot, pleasant vibe great decor and good beer what more can a guy ask for

Great for lunch

By sjgatl |

I recently enjoyed lunch at the Elephant & Castle. The french onion soup was very good, as were the mussels. Service was friendly and prompt. The prices are moderate.

Great Atmosphere

By Patricia H |

Loved everything. The atmosphere was perfect for a pub. The drinks were good. Server was very nice. The brussle sprouts were so good! The potato & leek pot pie was a real surprise at how good it was!

Our 2nd time at an E & C, first at this location, good ambiance, food just ok.

By traveltheworld012 |

We had been walking all over the Chicago Loop and this walk on August 26, 2025 was coming from the observation deck at the Hancock Building. The other couple went on ahead for fast food, my wife and I stopped here. We had previously dined a couple years ago at the Adams Street location and liked it. Here I had a Bloody Mary, my wife a Margarita. I ordered the Mediterranean Flatbread- veggies only no meat. My wife had the Hummus, Pita and Pretzel Bites. I like the British Pub ambiance, the flatbread was ok. My wife's pretzel bites were too hard to eat. Hummus was ok...not difficult to make good hummus. Overall, just a ho-hum dinner. Not to exciting.

Just what you'd expect

By Fabian P |

Typical Irish American bar/restaurant. Stopped there for dinner. I had fish and chips with a beer. Definitely not the best fish and chips I've had (especially the fries were not all that great and over-fried) but just ok. This place can get really noisy though, so not a place you'd like to hand out at for a long period of time unless you like headaches. My waiter was really friendly though, so at least that's a plus. Service is also fast, which is what you'd expect.

You need to time your visits right as this place gets busy

By SteveWKnee |

Getting a seat was hard enough but I got one in the end. Good choice of beers although the bartender appeared a little distracted (maybe too busy) and on one occasion updated my tab with another drink but then had to be reminded that I hadn't actually had been served the drink. Had the London Cheese steak (not too sure where the London bit comes from as it's not a staple of London that's for sure) but it's a themed English pub and understandable I suppose. It was ok though and the onion rings were good too. Prices were reasonable as well so I'd go back again.

Good food and excellent World Cup Football coverage

By seacolumbus |

Researched the place in advance from the UK. Visited twice : dinner on June 30th and lunch on July 3rd. The light dinner was good: soup of the day was vegetarian chilli and it was very good, and the French dip was loaded with meat and was also very good. On July 3rd we grabbed a table for lunch to watch the match (the place was heaving) and had The Slum Dog and Steak & Mushroom pie followed by a Big Ben Brownie. Only complaints are that the pie could have benefitted from some more Lea & Perrins, and the Brownie was truly massive. So no real complaints and our servers on both occasions were attentive.

Great food and staff

By CNDTravel |

Great staff at this location. The Sunday roast hit the spot for sure. Was a great surprise that they had London Pride on tap.

Fantastic food

By kath-lee0810 |

We popped in here for lunch on a cold day in Chicago and the food and ambience was fabulous. Big serve and really reasonable prices. If it's comfort food you are after, you can't go wrong, the Butter Chicken at $13 was delicious!!

Great pub

By Whitney G |

The food is really good and so is the service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Chicago.

Ate nothing I wouldn't order again

By mlmaynard |

My granddaughter's favorite eatery! She loved the Standard burger with bacon added. She also liked that she could get a salad instead of fries. I only wanted a snack so ordered the pretzel bite and beer cheese dip --it was humungous! Also delicious! On another occasion I had the club sandwich and couldn't eat it all. Our favorite place for lunch or dinner while in Chicago.

Get your Brit On!

By Russ Lacuata |

Discovered this fabulous British Pub on my recent trip. The atmosphere was cool, relax vibe. The decor all British theme. Welcoming staff, friendly and honest. We loved it so much that we visited twice. + Server was attentive and friendly + Fish and Chips, Butter Chicken Poutine. Good size portion, prepared well, breaded lightly, moist inside and good ratio of fish to fries. + Burger was A+ + Naan and Hummus must try + Calamari was good + Guiness Beer was tasty! + Bloody Mary was well prepared. Looking forward to coming back on my next visit. Highly Recommended.

Good time

By lchicagolaw |

never had heard of the place but couldn't get a reservation anywhere else before the theater. Cute themed place. Good food, good service.

Not impressed

By Deemn1513 |

My colleagues visited this restaurant for dinner while in Chicago for a business trip. We were not overly impressed with the food. The service was great. I ordered a corned beef sandwich and I had to look for the meat. For the price I paid the meat to bread ratio for this sandwich was not justifiable. There was no meat in the corners of the sandwich and it looked more like a patty melt. Very disappointing.

Great neighborhood spot

By Mom529 |

Decided to stop in while walking past and took a quick look at the menu. Some traditional English pub food, some with creative twists. The decor was charming, the service very attentive. We enjoyed delicious shepherd’s pie served in a small cast iron skillet with a lovely side salad (with dried cranberries, sliced almonds and goat cheese) and a “slum dog” (large beef hot dog in panko bread crumbs, wrapped in Indian naan with grilled onions and a tomato curry sauce) - messy but absolutely amazing! The iced tea isn’t freshly brewed, so after one glass, we switched to hot tea and a cup of ice - much better. Would definitely recommend!

The whole experience was nice

By Frank DeChellis |

The pub was busy. The environment is classy. The staff is playful and professional. The food was delish and the drinks were reasonable.

Lucky Find

By LuLu M |

Stumbled upon this restaurant while trying to escape the cold rain and get the hungry 6 year old fed. What a find! The pretzels and beer cheese were soooo good. And the tartar sauce that came with the fish and chips was the best I’ve had. Will absolutely make a return trip next time we are in town! P.S. kid was very happy with his cheese pizza ;)

Awesome Bloody Mary

By AmericanExplorers |

I’d come back here just for the Bloody Mary - there was just something about it, it had the right amount of everything. We only came in for drinks so I can’t comment on food, but it was a really good stop for drinks.

Decent

By MiJa55 |

Ran in here after seeing a production at a theater. Didn’t want fast food so settled here. Food was decent. Waitress did well. British pub, but many options on the menu in my opinion. The French dip was a little to well done, but again better than fast food.

Good food, but staff lack experience

By Kal |

I enjoyed my dinner at this location. The menu included a good selection, and they even had some ethnic/ international dishes like butter chicken. The place was busy on Sunday night! Staff, however, were not very well trained. It took them forever to get our food ready, and the waiter simply claimed his tip by not returning change when I paid in cash.

Blown Away!

By Andrew C |

I have walked by this place 100 times on visits to the city but never ventured to eat there. On this most recent trip we wanted some British food and didn't want to go to our old standby Emerald Loop. We were not sorry. The fish and chips is spot on and the butter chicken was as good as any Indian restaurant. The drinks were well made and well priced. Tuesdays are $7 mule nights! We will be back for sure!

Big Disappointment

By Joseph D |

Stopped in on a Thursday night for some drinks and dinner. It was pretty crowded, but found a seat at the bar. The bar tender was nice and attentive, but it went downhill from there. The food was mediocre and that’s being kind. The BBQ Wings were so small that they could have come from pigeons and the BBQ sauce was lacking any great flavor. It was so disappointing that I decided to leave and find another place for dinner. Very confusing since the reviews seemed to be very good, but not for me.

Simple food and not too bad beer

By JulesJWG |

As a brit abroad I avoid these places like the plague normally but we found ourselves here on our last evening as it was conveniently placed near our hotel and my daughter just wanted a quick bite before crashing. It did what it said on the tin, fairly simple hearty fayre. Food was OK, not brilliant but didn't expect it to be. I opted for an IPA to accompany my meal and an English beer drinker I was pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly. The feeling is of an attempt to mix an English pub feel with an American sports bar.

Heat the food

By TravelSarah |

My friends liked most of the wee pie flights they had. Especially the steak and mushrooms. My Sunday roast was thin slices of cool roast, cold mashed potatoes, lukewarm brocollini, and the Yorkshire pudding. The flavor was meh and the temperature was off. I know the are capable of having things hot because my friend burned his mouth on his. Oh well.

Five Star Service

By Patrick R |

Thanks to Katie and Brian for making a night out with a buddy a great experience! We were treated wonderfully with impeccable and friendly service. Try the Sausage Rolls and Chicken Sliders for sure.

Decent food and ambiance but slow service

By Vezich |

Was there for a quick dinner. The food was okay, but the service seemed rather slow, considering that the place was far from full. Surprising to see Poutine on the menu.

Great pub with good food and great pours!

By Jason P |

Stopped in before the hockey game for a quick drink. We each had Irish coffees that were strong and hot! Decided to eat our last lunch here before leaving town. The Wee Pie Flight and fish and chips were both very good. The Guinness was poured perfectly and the Guinness espresso martini was a great choice as well. Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere on a cold day. Definitely will be stopping back in on a return trip.

Nice Sports Bar/Grill

By Glenda E |

Nice English themed sports bar, average prices. The flatbread pizza was very good and nice sized. We also tried the Pie sampler. I was disappointed in it...I was thinking it would be like hand pies or something similar with a true pie crust. They are very small "pies" in a little aluminum disposable tin, with either puff pastry or mashed potatoes on top. Just a few bites to each pie. They were tasty just not what I expected. It has more of a sports bar and grill/pub vibe than restaurant, lot's of TV's for watching games etc. It was quite convenient to our Hotel and Chicago Theater. Service was good.

Lunch before leaving the City

By Melissa W |

We stopped in before leaving the city right as they were opening. The menu has numerous dishes with an English flare. We decided to order multiple of those items and share buffet style so we could try them all. Our favorite was the Wee pie sampler, letting us try all 4 kinds they offered. Now we know what to order as our entree on our next visit. There will definitely be a next visit!

Excellent pub with great service

By ColdWarKenny |

We stopped in here a couple of times on a recent visit to Chicago when staying at the Virgin Hotel across the street. Food and drinks were both great and the staff were wonderful. They quickly put on a soccer game we wanted to watch and were very chatty without being remotely intrusive. Brilliant experience, hence we kept coming back. Special shout out to our server Forrest who was brilliant, and didn’t even mind the obligatory Forrest Gump joke.

It’s a decent spot after traveling.

By gillyd123 |

The food was fine, nice atmosphere. They really need to hire more help. We waited 15 minutes between beers and it was not busy. Cubs game was going on and they didn’t have it on TV - strange for a Chicago bar. I wish I could give it a 3.5, it’s not a 4 though.

Great food

By jrplr |

Searched for a place to eat after the theater that served food after 11, just happened to come across this gem! Food was great, and reasonably priced. Asked the server about our choices, she told us the facts so we decided on other choices. Appreciated her honesty. This place did not disappoint!

Breakfast

By Judy D |

I had been here several years ago and loved it. This morning.....not so much. The homemade bangers were good. . My scrambled eggs were overcooked....the potatoes had a funny taste. . Our server was very lack-a-daisical. We asked for coffee refills and he cleared off 2 tables before bringing our coffee

Delicious Food & Quick Service

By Julie W |

Went there for lunch w/ 7 work colleagues. The food was great! I had the salmon and garlic mashed potatoes and requested extra asparagus and green beans. Delicious! Several colleagues had fish and chips and one other ordered the chicken Peri Peri. Someone else had the onion soup. Everyone enjoyed their meal! The waitress was attentive and quick. Will definitely eat here again!

A solid, good meal in an English Pub atmosphere. Good, solid comfort food, good beer. Loud, not entirely conversation friendly, but it's a BAR for pete's sake. Roll with it and go across the street to see Drunk Shakespeare

Great food, friendly staff

By Judy G |

Came for some appetizers one day and was so good we came back for lunch the next. Everything was cooked great and very fresh. We had wings and chicken nachos the first day. The wings were cooked nice and crispy and a good size. The nachos were delicious with a nice salsa and sour cream on the side. The fish and chips were great and tarter sauce out of this world. My husband had the soup of the day (chicken vegetables) and it was so fresh and obviously homemade. Prices very reasonable.

Average experience, prices a bit high

By FrancescaR1986 |

Pub in downtown Chicago, nicely decorated and with a pleasant atmosphere. We were not enthusiastic about the menu, in our opinion they lack the dishes that there should be. Good food, prices a little high. They made us sit in the tables without table service, but we were still asked for a tip for the service (questionable in my opinion). I think there are better pubs in the area.

Nice pub for fish and chips

By Susan M |

Convenient pub off State Street for lunch serving large sandwiches, good fish and chips with satisfactory service.

Above average.....

By PVG3 |

Good beer, good pretzels but wings were average at best. Bartender was cool, friendly. Not what we remembered but did the trick.

Warm and welcoming "English" pub

By Janet B |

We came in out of the Chicago cold looking for a warming lunch and found it here. We shared an ale and brown onion soup and a tasting flight of four mini versions of their pies. It was all delicious. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. Hit the spot perfectly.

Fun Menu and Good Food

By tkf98 |

We found Elephant & Castle on our last night in Chicago and wish we had discovered it sooner. The menu is different than many around there and our food was very good. We chose to dine outdoors. If the sound of the train is going to be a problem for you, eat inside, as the train is very nearby and during rush hour they run frequently.

Big fish

By Kristie C |

Biggest piece of fish I’ve ever had. And the Baileys cheesecake was delish. Nice place for dinner after a show at the Chicago Theater. It’s noisy but it’s a pub-ish restaurant so that’s okay. Well go back.

Great service and food!

By ebruce88 |

Found this place while walking by before Jo Koy at The Chicago Theater. The service was spot on and they had yummy cocktails. I had my first chicken curry at a British pub and it was delicious! Husband had the fish and chips and it was equally delish.

Dinner

By Corunhesa |

we were seated outside to dine, 2 adults and 2 kids. Fantastic place. One of my kids ordered cheese burger and I a veggie burger with NO cheese nor cheese in the salad (I am vegan). I also asked oil and vinegar in the salad. We waited 40 minutes for our 4 dishes. At this point, it was 9:00 pm and my kids were quite hungry. My kid got grilled cheese sandwich instead of cheeseburger, si she had to wait another 18 minutes!!!! In tears. My veggie burger had not only one but 2 American cheese slices inside. The good thing: not cheese in the salad, I appreciated that. But, not olive oil nor vinegar as dressing, nothing. And you could see my “veggie patties”: they were tiny and dry, too toasted, hard to cut. I can provide pictures of that burger. They felt 3/4 parts of the bun. So disappointed with service and with the few options for vegetarian, none for vegan (hummus). I don’t think I would return, and it is very sad because I love this pub.

Staff

By Liz17601 |

The food was good but the staff puts this restaurant about the rest. Our waitress was friendly and super attentive. We even came back later for dessert and she treated us like we were old friends. Would definitely recommend the burger or chicken fingers.

traditional british pub

By Terry R |

Dinner here with tomato bacon soup, chicken pot pie and a nice bitter. Sat by the fire, luckily NOT on this hot August day, watching the world go by. Relaxing.

A tasty change from the usual

By TheTravelingBoyMama |

If you’re looking for something different, then this is it. We ordered takeout, and it was ready really quickly. Our big order was correct, and the employees were friendly. The fish and chips were great, as were the pies. We would definitely eat here again.

Good and loud!

By dontrapper |

Stopped in for dinner and drinks at 6:00 o’clock and the place was packed. There were no seats available at the bar and it was very loud. The good news is, they honored our reservation. Had fried pickles for an app and they were good although not a very big portion. The deluxe burger was good and the “chips” were okay. The fish in the fish and chips was good inside but a lot of breading. The brownie dessert was really good! And the best part of the visit was Amy our server; excellent service! Also, very good menu with lots of choices.

Standard 'pub'

By JG128 |

Standard 'American style' British pub serving standard 'American style' British pub food. The decor was a little mixed up with random British images from Shakespeare to Bowie. Special commendation for the side salad though which was delicious.

Great Food

By Nomad00457878067 |

We went with a big group. There were menu choices for all. Some had the big juicy burger. I had their famous fish and fries. We were seated with very little waiting and the City was busy that night. The server was very fun and it was our first time but definately not our last.

Eh...

By Heather |

The food was average and the waitress didn't come by to check on things once the food was served. The environment was cool but not sure it was cool enough to go back.

Not Good

By Mark S |

Although this pub/restaurant is in a very good location downtown it misses the mark on just about everything with the possible exception of service, at least on my visit. I should have known something was not right here when my girl and I went here for a pre-show meal (a concert at the Chicago Theatre around the corner) and there were plenty of tables empty waiting. You would have thought the pre-show crowd would have packed this place. First, the beer menu is blah for a faux British/Irish pub and they don't even list the ABVs of the beers and do not offer you a proper beer glass if you order a bottle or can beer. Second, and most important, the food was bad. We both ordered the Yorkshire Pudding and it was lukewarm at best. The beef was stringy and the string beans were cold and hard- barely sautéed. We did not enjoy our meals. Our server was good though. She was attentive and passed by our table enough times for us to get what we wanted. But that was the only saving grace. We will not be back here.

Cozy family friendly British pub

By Robin B |

This was a great place for my family with young kids to get a casual family friendly dinner in a busy part of town . On our first night in town we were weary and originally had gone to the restaurant in our hotel but after a quick minute we realized it was way too formal for our twins. Luckily we found Elephant and Castle down the block and boy were we glad . Comfortable booths and unpretentious food and a KIDS menu . I happen to love brittish food ( I know I know) from my study abroad so I was happy to see some old favs like sausage rolls, bangers and mash, and shepherds pie on the menu . But there is also plenty for the average American palette like burgers, salmon and sandwiches . My kids had the pretzel bites, chicken fingers and grilled cheese. Me And my husband got the Sunday roast - roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire pudding and broccoli. We liked it so much we went back another night and tried the butter chicken curry and it was also delicious. It wasn’t overpriced either.

Good Food

By Stuart S |

We ate here a couple of times whilst on holiday in Chicago, has the feel of a locals pub but we found it friendly enough and the service was good. Missing home food so tried the fish and chips and the Shepherds pie, really good, can recommend both.

Simple but good!

By Shoshana H |

We ordered fish and chips. The portion was not too big but tasty. The desert of apple and berry crumble was delicious. Service was great. Nice atmosphere and decor of the place. Enjoyed the evening.

Good food and drinks for a reasonable price

By Hillary B |

Very cool/cute atmosphere, friendly staff and great drinks/food for a good price. Great for a date night out on the town!

Breakfast is great.

By tuna572003 |

We went there for breakfast and it was great. The food came out quickly and was very good. We went again the next evening for dinner and were rather disappointed. The food was just so so and we didn't get a very good server.

Great burgers

By AnnieM452 |

We were so hungry and came across the pub. We both ordered burgers, I had the basic with chips and my partner had the de luxe version with a salad. Both were lovely and he said the sauce on his burger made it one of the best he’d ever had! The salad had a great dressing on it and came with raisins and nuts and cheese and again, a really tasty dressing. A really nice basic meal

Dinner Date

By kkibby43 |

The wife and I were in town on vacation and stumbled across this restaurant while walking back to our hotel. First impression was favorable, unique decor, interesting fusion. This place blends English with Indian, a new experience for me. The hostess was mildly condescending but I was hungry and exhausted so we stayed for dinner instead of addressing the slight. The wife had fish-n-chips and I ate an Indian dish. We were pleased but the dessert was what really made the experience memorable. Get the bread pudding, so good. Not sure if most customers take a taxi, I didn’t see available parking. I endorse this restaurant .

Pay A LOT for a little

By emptynesterstravelin |

it was embarrassing! My son ordered a Ruben, it had to be the smallest sandwich I'd ever seen! I had the appetizer of wings .... apparently the chickens were on a diet as they were the tiniest wings ever! Honestly, as we walked away we came across a Jason's Deli and all joked the sandwiches there are bigger and better. Don't waste money on the food!

Very pleasant with good selection of English fare

By JimHenry |

Nice choice to get pint of British beer or other craft beers. $7.50 for a pint. Menu included Yorkshire pudding, Shepard's Pie and Bangers and Mash, Fish & Chips. Our family had Yorkshire pudding, and Shepard's Pie. Very good.

Disappointing Lunch

By Becky E |

Let me begin by saying our waitress and other staff were great, but the main course that was very disappointing. The appetizer of truffle Park crisps was delicious. The steak and mushroom pie left a lot to be desired. It was basically a bowl of soup with a crust. My husband and I have traveled quite often to England and there was nothing British tasting to this dish. I would not recommend ordering this dish at all.

Really good food and service

By LSUTraveller |

Great British pub with traditional fare. Sheperd's Pie and Vindalou were both very good. Pretty good pub scene. Good prices and great service.

Great dinner

By juls0621 |

My family loved this place. We strolled in after a hot day at the zoo. Great food and friendly wait staff!

Nice spot, plenty of variety, a few tempting British style dishes and good value

By Corb2000 |

I normally avoid 'fake' pubs when overseas but the Elephant & Castle's menu attracted me in after 3 weeks away from the UK. In the event I sidestepped the tempting Yorkshire pudding and went for chicken tenders (which were bland and I regretted choosing them). The substantial but very enjoyable Highland Bread pudding and a couple of pints of Harp fully made up for my disappointing main course. Good points: + Nice atmosphere and decor + Excellent service from start to finish + Good value + Good selection of dishes on the menu (although poutine is hardly a pub favourite, very few people in the UK have even heard of it) Not so good points: - Those bland chicken tenders, not helped by an insipid mustard sauce and poor chips / fries - Don't think these dishes are what you'd get in the UK, they are variations to suit US tastes rather than a true taste of home for us Brits

Works

By Nick |

Most English bars in the USA suck. This is an exception. It sells English beer in a good drinkable condition. It looks like and English city pub and the music is English. Chuck in good service and genuine interest in an English guy being there and you have a good pub

Great English Pub

By pkm6585 |

I enjoyed trying this place. I made a reservation but they weren't super busy on a Sunday night. I had the Shepard's Pie and hubby had fish and chips. The food was very good and service was great, as well. They had a lot of menu options to choose from. I would love to go back.

Brunch at British Pub

By Irina |

Elephant & Castle is a very traditional British pub at N Wabash St of the Chicago Loop. It's very easy to find (not far from Wacker Dr), its looks aren't anything but traditionally British, the service is very friendly. Server Ana, a young Irish lady, was very attentive and amiable, indeed. I chose to sit outside, although they have a very spacious, but at the same time rather cozy seating area (areas, rather) inside. The pub is not a small place. Sign of the times: in this pub, they are doing direct TV broadcast from the World Soccer Cup 2018! Nice. The menu offers everything - from chicken pot pies and stuffed Yorkshire puddings to fish and chips, etc. I wasn't too hungry, and ended up having Eggs Benedict with shoved honey ham and breakfast potatoes. Eggs were yummy, the rest (including English muffin) was not that great - dry and tasteless. Ham was somewhat burnt. Another person across from my table was eating the same meal - and I saw that a good part of it was left on the plate. The proper service and funny decor inside the pub (British humor!) significantly made up for an overall average meal. But I am sure that can be worked on and corrected by Elephant & Castle in the near future.

Great bar, Awful food

By Ian C |

Went here a couple of nights for drinks and watch the sports and found the bar to be really good. On our 3rd night desided to eat here as well, what a mistake. The missus got a chicken salad, it was basic with too much sauce. I got the British sausage with mash, tasteless I would recommend the bar but not the food.

Besotted with the Old Sod

By John H |

Think of your days wandering the alleyways in Oxford, or that pub crawl in Durham, or the pre-theatre quick meal before a West End musical. This is pub grub at a high level; surprisingly tasty and imaginative. Of course, an excellent selection of beers. Good prices, for an urban setting. Great service.

Just not that good....

By Carmen H |

My Family and I stumbled across this pub/restaurant while walking in Chicago. We stopped because the menu looks good and we’re fan of English cuisine. The service was fine, and our waitress was friendly. However, I ordered the bangers and mash And my husband ordered a meat pie. The foods presentation was underwhelming in the taste was almost not edible. Our kids enjoyed their kids meal. However, the adults paying the bill were disappointed.

Great bar/restaurant.

By KarenHR |

Located in the heart of the city this is a great bar/restaurant. The service is very good and the meals were hot and delicious! Highly recommended.

Great quick dinner

By Steph W |

This place was perfect for a quick meal with a homely, local feel. Popped in and told it would be at least a 20 minute wait for a table but less than 10 minutes later table was ready - we'd just finished ordering drinks at the bar! Food was excellent and service attentive. Large portion sizes and a big choice of "British" dishes. Would recommend to all for an easy tasty meal.

Ryan was a Fabulous Bartender!

By Vaughn S |

Ryan was a Fabulous Bartender! Incredibly friendly & attentive! Had an amazing conversation with him! Plus the English pub feel made our visit all the better. Great beer & drinks. Please visit when in Chicago and look for Ryan—he rocks!!!

Great dinner spot for weary travelers

By Sparklemn |

Great pick for us as we wandered back to our hotel after a day of sightseeing. Someone in our party said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. The fish and chips, fish butty and French dip were also delicious. The wall art served as great conversation pieces.

The food was decent but not great - the service was very good

By Dedgehog |

This place is near the Chicago theater, where we saw a Saturday morning show. Luckily we had a reservation so were seated immediately rather than have to wait 30+ minutes for a table. I ordered the ale & onion soup, which was piping hot (great as it was cold outside) and very tasty. I then had the bangers and mash while my wife had fish and chips (it only comes with one piece of fish so if hungry order the extra piece). Our entrees were good but not great and I personally would have preferred a Winston's-style pork sausage. The green beans in our vegetable side order looked old with brown ends. We split a very sweet bread pudding for dessert. The service was very good as this place has wait-staff to take orders, runners to deliver the food & drinks and busboys to clear up. Prices were in-line with other Loop establishments.

English style...american way

By SeverissimoPalato |

Just few minutes from everything in town, this english bite will deligth you with a larga selection of beers and food, the Staff is very friendly and welcoming and the prices in the are avarage of central position.

Full of life & Great staff

By DavidL120584 |

Nice, lively and cosy spot. Really nice staff and great choice of food and drink. Great location in the heart of the city. Nice option for food and drink, always busy so be sure to book ahead

Sweet, bustling British-style pub

By YOY1 |

Stumbled into this pub on a chilly Chicago eveningafter hoofing it around The Loop. They have a bunch of UK beer on draft and a bunch of Chicago brews on draft, too. They have happy hour specials each day and I was lucky enough to be there for discounted Chicago beer on tap. They also offer apps for ½ price, so it was a perfect storm! The place got busier and busier as I sat there. People were friendly and the service at bar was friendly, fast and excellent. Warmed me right up!

A Nice Pub

By hwmcdaniel |

A nice pub close to our hotel in central downtown Chicago. Good food, beer and reasonably price. We did not have reservations and did not have problems being seated. Nice bar where the locals hang out.

Good Food & Drinks!

By Amy K |

We stopped here twice for lunch during our stay in Chicago. The food was really good! It’s a great place to watch soccer too, which my husband really appreciated! Loved the atmosphere!

Excellent, reasonably priced food and drinks...

By susan P |

We stopped there on a whim for happy hour before going to the Chicago Theater. Great happy hour prices on food and $4 win/beer. I had the pretzel bites which was huge. It came with a skillet of bacon topped cheese sauce and spicy dip. My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich...we both enjoyed the food, ambience and great service.

Average pseudo pub food

By MichBustrav |

This is a typical U.S. pub-looking restaurant, with very average food. It was fine for a quick lunch or dinner with friends, as they have TV's, a fireplace, so the setting is fine. The staff seemed unmotivated, but they were friendly.

Great service

By dooper84 |

I was here with a friend on a weekday and the service was great. Very attentive. Food came out quickly and was tasty. Drinks were kept full. Good place for lunch. Love the English pub feel.

Super great atmosphere

By Laura S |

Came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning, sat outside and had such great food!! We will be back for sure

Solid pub food

By dangerFlorida |

A very good restaurant with British pub-style food. The Fish and chips, burgers, pot pies and sandwiches are all very good. The convenient location and late serving hours made it a good choice for us twice in one week.

We Love This Restaurant!

By Sue L |

We love to eat here before shows at The Chicago Theatre downtown. It is so close by and convenient. We love the pub ambiance, and the food and drinks are great! I recommend making reservations, as there were people waiting when we arrived, but we were seated immediately. Our group had the fish tacos, shepherd's pie, and steak and mushroom pie. The dishes were served with a delicious and generously sized portion of salad. The service was friendly and efficient, allowing us to get to the concert in plenty of time. Our patronage goes back years, so we are happy to see The Elephant and Castle thriving and serving great food. Best of all, the prices are extremely reasonable for a Loop restaurant!

Very Quick, Reasonable, Good Service

By AA G |

Breakfast was great. Service was fast and very reasonable! The service was attentive and friendly! Thank you for making us feel welcome!

Pub fare

By brownbe1 |

Go for the ale and onion soup. It is worth the visit alone. The fish and chips were good with a full filet and signature tartar sauce.

Cozy winter dinner

By Winnie E |

Beautiful service, tasty food, awesome atmosphere. Ale and onion soup is the best and the bread pudding is a must. Cozy by the fire and will definitely be returning on our next visit.

Great menu and great atmosphere!

By TravelingCouple0913 |

This place was amazing and we were highly impressed by the English pub style atmosphere as well as the extensive menu! I had the buttered chicken which was so good and my husband had the Wee Pie Flight sampling all of their savory pies including a pot pie and sheperds pie. All were delicious! We sat, ate and enjoyed some Football, the crowd was great. Our waiter was awesome as well but I don't remember his name.

Just fair

By Tim H |

Nothing really wrong with this place. Food is fair, atmosphere is fair and service was fair. It worked in a pinch but we wouldn't visit again.

Post Hamilton Snack

By 63-Mora |

Within walking distance of the CIBC Theatre this was the only place we found open after 11pm. It's a pub. Why not try it! The staff was friendly and the service was great. We shared some beef nachos. We're from New Mexico and these nachos are a close second to our NM nachos. Wish we had more time to sit and have a few. Everyone was having a great time. Great atmosphere!

If you can’t be in London, at least you can find something in Chicago!

By Speed24601 |

I’ve been here several times over the years, and every time, I always enjoy it. They have Fuller’s and Boddington’s and they have a very nice menu full of some traditional English favorites that will make you want to visit the UK again. Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, a nice Sunday Roast, a Full English Breakfast (minus the Black Pudding) on the Saturday and Sunday menu, and a lovely Steak & Mushroom Pie. Lots of other great selections as well, since the menu is fairly extensive. This is my favorite Chicago Location, although I think there are at least 2, possibly 3. N. Wabash feels like you might actually be stepping into some kind of subterranean pub in the UK. I can’t imagine anyone ever being disappointed.

A Great Dinner at Elephant and Castle

By CarpeDiem0212 |

My wife and I wanted to try another restaurant that was close to our hotel. They recommended we try the Elephant and Castle and we were glad we did. The restaurant offers both indoor and outside seating. We chose to eat outside which was very nice. My wife had a Wee Pie Flight consisting of small portions of Shepherd’s Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Steak and Mushroom Pie and Cheesy Leek and Potato Pie. It was delicious. I had a Chicken Pot Pie and salad which were also very good. Our server, Kirby, was excellent. He was quick to offer recommendations and explain the many dinner options we had. We highly recommend this restaurant for its great food choices, good service, and location.

Chicago Restaurant/Pub with Identity Crisis

By Traveller 07700900461 |

Are they English or are they American? Are they Americans trying to capitalise on being different with a quick gimmick and are just plain American? At some point I assume they tried to have the whole English Pub element somewhere and over time it got corrupted and/or faded. The menu is nowhere near being English and the walls are littered with part traditional English, part pop culture English, part American pop culture and part American modern adornments. Which English pub has Nachos with mimosa for brunch? Not that it is a bad thing, they are merely tailoring to their target market which is not the English backpacker or anyone seeking an English Pub. I ate breakfast. It was ordinary. Service ordinary. It was a convenient meal in a good location. I won't be going back.

Great food

By bettybooponcrack |

We have stopped here many times usually after a theater show. It's open late and the food is always good.

A Beautiful Slice of Great Britain in the heart of Chicago!

By cmomichiana |

Great staff, food, drinks, atmosphere, decor, location, and British Classic Rock! A great place to take a date, but only if they are super cool. Highly recommend!

Cheap, though delicious food

By SSD_xl |

Nice spot with nice personnel and delicious food. Not to mention an effective service. The pies are excellent, and kudos on the Big Ben Brownie! I strongly recommend this place for a warm dinner in Chicago.

We'll Be Back!

By Chris W |

Came to town to see a show at the Chicago Theater and stopped in due to proximity to our hotel. It was a packed Friday night and the host gave us an estimate of a 50 minute wait. It was really hard to navigate even to get a drink at the bar, so we went across the street for a couple of drinks while we waited. The 50 minutes turned into about 35, so we were happy. Our server (I wish I remembered her name) was very friendly and attentive, even as busy as it was. I was very happy with the Standard burger and fries. Local brews were tasty as well. We loved the atmosphere and the food was great! Can't wait to come back again!

Catch a soccer match and a cask pour

By vickiemp |

The regulars were as entertaining as the game. Great beer options and not a bad view to be had. Passable pub food.

Excellent

By Sunflower365 |

Ate lunch here recently. All around an excellent experience! Our server, Forest, was very attentive and funny. The gentleman clearing tables was very efficient and polite. Food and drinks were delicious. We love visiting the E & C when we are in Chicago. Feels very much like the English pubs we have been to in London!

Felt like we were back in London

By Pam F |

We ducked into Elephand & Castle when we were exploring the area near our hotel. If was early afternoon. Much to our surprise, we felt like we were back in London! It was great. The atmosphere was fun, there were televisions at the bar. Sports playing on all. Great beer selection and excellent cocktails. I wish we would of had more time to enjoy. We will be back.

Fab food

By Tammy17 |

Great choice of meals, great location. Lovely to sit outside enjoying the sunshine with a glass of wine and some food. The steak salad was lovely followed by the fudge brownie. yum

Elephant and Castle, a pub on our side of the pond

By Flygurl1996 |

Fashioned after a large London pub, Elephant and Castle was about to deliver a classic British experience. We were hungry after getting off of the L with our 6 bags. They were lovely and opened the door for us and gave us a comfortable space for us to sit and have the bags near us. The server was fun and shared his favorites. The fish and chips was good. And my spouse enjoyed the Ale and Onion Soup. Would go back. Maybe watch a football (soccer) game and enjoy a pint!

Authentic English Pub Food

By Squishy2 |

The pot pies are served with a spoon....that is because in England it is a 1/2 soup type of inside....no it is not watery, it is AUTHENTIC. We went over the holiday time with 8 people from 3 through 92 (yeah, right , almost the song)and everybody, even little dude enjoyed the food. There were lots of families there and many people at the bar as well. Fish and chips, thumbs up. Shepherds pie to die for.

Good price for area, not greasy

By Emowbrey |

Food is very tasty. Not bland or stodgy, and the decor is fun. Surprisingly good breakfast at a reasonable price.

Authentic British food!

By Grinke |

Really good. Reasonably priced. Great location in the Theater District. The meal really did remind us of eating in London!

Good food, fun atmosphere

By Chuck B |

We got pretty basic food - burgers & sandwiches - and was pretty good. Nice menu. Fun atmosphere & good bar.

Great seafood

By Randy C |

The choices of seafood was great here. Just about anything you wanted in fresh water fish to muscles or saltwater fish. Loved this place.

Best Meal I Had in Chicago This Trip

By calvino |

I don't know what more to say. I arrived late (thanks, United!) and had to cancel my other reservation. I had the steak and mushroom pie, which was delicious and exactly the right amount; plus a local brew. It's comfortable, lively and warm ... well, I was in front of the fireplace, but ... Much better than Harry Caray's (good food but they hurry you) Roka Akor (way downhill and they sneak "processing" fees onto your bill after the fact and Rebar (this was actually pretty good, but turned out to be kind of a date bar and that's not me).

Chicago British Pub

By Eric P |

For downtown Chicago, Elephant & Castle is reasonably priced and the food was delicious. I strongly recommend the Fish & Chips. We ate and early dinner after a matinee show, so the place wasn't too crowded. I've past this place in the summer and it is usually very busy. I wish I could remember the server's name because he was excellent. I will definitely be going back to Elephant & Castle.

Perfect Pub for a COLD SNOWY DAY in down town Chicago

By Linda K |

We had a great experience seated in front of the fireplace and windows to the excitement on the street. The food was excellent for our retreat from the weather outside. Kelly D served us Fish and Chips and Shepard's Pie after we had our tasty appetizer of garlic cheese grilled shrimp and bread. Kelly was helpful and pleasant. Very nice afternoon of beverages, food, ambiance and conversation before the after work crowds.

Always happy having dinner here!

By Barbara W |

Food's always great. I strongly recommend their cheeseburger, the bun is very fresh and soft. Food's served quite quickly, a good option for a good lunch.

Great dinner, fun staff

By rodsandrides |

We had the fish and chips that were great. Sorry, I can't remember our waiters name but Sue was fun. A special thanks to Sue and the couple from Detroit we where talking to. I forgot my knapsack and the couple found us down the street to lets us know that Sue had it. Thanks again to the couple and staff for making our night
