Before I begin I would just like to say that i feel somewhat guilty writing this review. this establishment was not bad and I know many who love it, but my own experience is pushing me to write this. I went here with friends for a celebration. it came highly recommended by two and the way they described the meals I was more then eager to go. when we went I was treated by pleasing decor and decent service, we sat down and ordered. I decided to get the coconut water and when they brought it it was bland and deluded with ice. then when we ordered our meals (I had the vermicelli cakes, which had come highly recommended) I asked that they just serve it with tofu and mushrooms do to the fact that I am a very picky vegan. The tufo was, although spiced, somewhat bland and I should know I've sampled a wide variety. the mushrooms, too, had little flavor and when I sampled the cake I was confused by the taste. as it turned out the cake had egg in it. I get nauseous whenever I eat egg and produced to spend several minutes outside trying to avoid getting sick. My experience here was not pleasurable but I know many who adore it (my entire breakfast party) but I will not be returning.

This place has perhaps the best Vietnamese food in South Austin, and as a bonus they have decent baked goods. The French bread used for the Banh Mi, for instance, is excellent. The pistachio eclair was also very good. The Bun with pork was exceptional, very fresh and flavorful- if you like this dish you will not be disappointed at all. Coffee shop atmosphere with fairly pleasant outdoor seating.

The french toast was amazing. The macarons were also very good. I had breakfast pho which was very good esecially with the poached egg in it.

We visited Elizabeth Street Cafe for a late breakfast on a Saturday. What a unique experience! The menu combines traditional French pastries and croissants with a very creative set of Vietnamese-fusion breakfast dishes. Coffee was some of the best I've ever had, just for the standard French press pot variety. They offer a variety of speciality coffees and teas as well. We enjoyed the ham and Gruyere croissant, the ginger pork sausage with poached eggs and sticky rice was amazing! Made spicy hot with Sriracha sauce, and sprinkled with fresh mint leaves, basil and cilantro, this is refreshing and spicy and eggy all at once. Really unique! The pork sticky buns with poached eggs was also a favorite. Try this for a unique change of pace at breakfast or brunch!

First time at Elizabeth St. Cafe, our daughter convinced us to go there and we are glad that we did.....we sat outside and it was enjoyable, the service was exceptional, the staff was caring with a fun attitude, the food was prepared with care, presented nicely, looked appetizing and tasted GREAT. Enjoyed the total experience.Thank-you

Good food, but not phenomenal. Cute place and great outdoor setting. Excellent waiter. Bahn Mi house special was nothing special and barely any meat on it for $9. Bun (vermicelli bowls) -- just so-so meat on mine. Spouse has had a better Bahn Mi at Dang! on 183 and Research Blvd. The Pho - - we had flank steak -- was super yummy and they have 10 other kinds of Pho. So Pho is awesome.... but I have had a better Vermicelli bowl in Kyle, TX and we make better bahn mi at home. Sorry! Just not that amazing. $2.50 for a single macaroon is not awesome, either.

New to Austin, went here on advice of my airbnb host. It was a not-far walk away. Sat outside on a hot August evening, it was decent enough, not crowded though patio is adjacent to a busy and therefore noisy avenue. Food was OK, the fact that I can't remember it says enough. I do recall that it was price-y. However, upon leaving, I was tempted by the pastries in the case. I sat down at the counter, asked for 2 small macaroons. They were expensive, delicious - and served to me in a bag!! Ordered coffee to go with them - it was served to me in a cardboard cup!! Lesson: don't expect real dinnerware at the counter despite the high price of what you're eating. Interior is a little dark and very noisy. This cafe is talked about, so I guess I'm glad I experienced it, but would never go back. Austin has many more, and better, options to try.

I've been to Elizabeth Street Cafe a couple of time, both for brunch and dinner. It's a little Vietnamese restaurant with a nod to the French influence in Vietnam. It's definitely very cute, great decor and atmosphere - but the Vietnamese food was a little lacking (though I might have high standards). The drinks there are very good, the beignets with jam are delicious, but the banh xeo, banh mi, and bun I've tried there all left me underwhelmed. Also, parking can be difficult.

Have been here twice now and will make it a priority to go anytime we're in Austin. First time we went for breakfast. My French toast was incredible and even my very picky teenage son loved his ham croissant. The second time I had an act opus salad which I'm still craving. Loved the outdoor seating and service was fantastic! The only downside is parking. Can't wait to go again!

Visiting family in Austin and they took us to Elizabeth, we ordered several apps (spring rolls, fried spring rolls, escargots, dumplings) they were all bursting with flavor, excellent! For the mains we ordered the street fried rice with Ribeye and Redfish, Singapore noodles, and Dan Dan noodles. Everything was excellent! I would go again and recommend it to anyone. Only bad thing was I had to park a half mile away..

We enjoyed our meal here. We tried several different drinks and food items, and all was good except the excessively sweet dessert. Highly recommended!

Don't waste time, try the food. Not a full bar, so no hard drinks, but who needs alcohol when the food is this yummy. Always busy, or so it seems when ever I go. Tried this place 3 weeks ago and been eating there twice a week. I guess the cold weather also makes this food more appealing. Singapore noodles, or Bahn mi can't go wrong. Their drink forgot the name Velvet something was so refreshing. Excellent service so far. Christina (server) very gracious young lady. She made great recommendations. A lot can be said of a restaurant by, How a hostess is greets you and there host staff is very sweet, accommodating and polite.

After hearing rave reviews from friends of the Elizabeth Street Café, I had high hopes. This restaurant is a cute concept, but missed the bar for me. Wait staff was unfriendly and disinterested. I ordered the lemongrass tofu and mushroom bahn mi and my boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken bahn mi. Neither of us was very impressed.

I love the quaint environment and Julia Childs waitresses. Very interesting dishes for lovers of Vietnamese cuisine.

Came here during a slow hour to get a Vietnamese iced coffee, after I ordered the hostess/counter girl sneered at me and treated me like a third class citizen for not ordering any food to go with the coffee, and then after I paid made me drink it outside the front door in the Austin heat. To be fair though the iced coffee was almost as good as being in Vietnam, so not deserving of one star.

Service was horrid. Kinda painful to be honest. Had brunch there with family - shaken beef with eggs, pho and a banh mi breakfast sandwich. For a place claiming to be Vietnamese food, it’s not. Shaken beef wasn’t - it was just steak and eggs. Good, but not as advertised. Banh mi sandwich didn’t resemble a banh mi sandwich, even the breakfast version. See a trend? Pass

We're spoiled on S First, with more restaurants than anyone should have within walking distance. That said, I'll go back to walking by this one. Went for lunch and waited for 40 minutes, the entire time two tables sat empty. When the "unfriendly hostess" - I agree Karina A - seated us, we were another 20 minutes before anyone came. Not the end of the world - nice afternoon, good conversation. But the food was all meh. And wow, was it expensive. The little sandwich one person had came without the famous pickled veggies. Ten minutes later, the waiter brought some - upcharge of $3.25!!! The food was fresh and the presentation was attractive, but this place is way full of itself. A bit north is an awesome Thai place (Sway) if you wanna get your spicy Asian fix, or Frescas for some grilled chicken - both have friendly, Austin waiters and prices that aren't so silly.

Most of my experience with Elizabeth st was pretty good but the one thing I really went there for was mediocre - the chicken thigh Bahn Mi. Was was good: The staff - super nice, The macarons - crisp on the outside & dense on the inside with just the right amount of filling. They were little sweet pockets of delight. The Vietnamese coffee - yum. I was disappointed with the chicken thigh Bahn Mi - it was missing something - flavor. Maybe I need to lower my expectations to find good Bahn Mi here in ATX, but nothing has come close to Nobi in Webster Texas. Anyway, the setting is delightful, the prices are a bit high but it's South Austin so it is in line with the surrounding businesses. The menu is enticing & I will give this place another try for something else. Parking is a challenge so be prepared to circle the blocks.

This place blends Vietnamese comfort food with French bakery classics. All of the appetizers are terrific, and the pho and banh mi sandwiches are to die for. The ambience is lovely, both indoors and on the small patio. Great for brunch, lunch and dinner.

We tried the 10 A and B spring rolls. They had beef and shrimp. They were very good and a dipping sauces were amazing. We also tried the Singapore noodles and the fried rice. We were not able to finish either. The fried rice with fried fish came with a lot of fish flakes on top that tasted very good. My one critique is that there were not very many vegetables in either of our entrees. Our service was excellent and our server took time to explain the menu since it was our first time. We would like to come back for brunch. We also tried the anything croissant and the coconut cream puffs. Overall, a little pricey but definitely worth our time.

I have previously enjoyed the Elizabeth Street Cafe's banh mi. Today, we had two dishes, and neither were that good. I had the mushroom and tofu bun. The noodles were well cooked, but the fish sauce less complex than I would really enjoy, mostly providing sweetness. I was disappointed by the preparation of the two small pieces of tofu, which were not grilled enough to provide flavor or to hold together very well. The relative dearth of mushrooms was even more disappointing: a few slices of button or crimini, and two slices of shiitake. The cha ca red fish was relatively bland, but well cooked. Along with a cup of iced Vietnamese coffee, the total before tip was $42, which was too much for such an uninteresting lunch.

I wish we lived closer. The food, the vibe, the service were all delightful. Cocktails were unique and delicious, my friend said his spicy margarita was among the best he’d ever had and my Nectar of the Goddess was interesting and pretty. The dumplings were just the right amount of spicy. The spring rolls were all great but the chicken was our favorite. Collectively we tried most of the menu items: the banh mi, the pho, the bun—all were tasty and fresh. Finally the chocolate mousse with orange zest and sea salt was dreamy.

You cannot book to go here so we were lucky to find a table easily. The food is delicious and fresh - so tasty.

First of all, Hailey was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and is an excellent guide for navigating what to get (too many good things to choose from.) The outdoor seating is romantic. Try the Singapore noodles for certain. The carpaccio is delicious. We were disappointed they don't have a traditional Bahn Mi but the substitute was delicious. Definitely taste some of the unique cocktails We were there our last night in Austin, had we gone sooner we probably would have gone back a second time

I have to admit, it was hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that this was a boulangerie and a Vietnamese restaurant, but regardless, I can attest to the excellence of the Vietnamese part of menu. I had the Pho choy--the only vegetarian pho option. It was terrific and served as it should be with peppers, mung bean sprouts, basil and lime on the side. The soup was complexly spiced and hot enough that I didn't need to kill the flavors by overpowering it with sriracha. The space is lovely, but the service is a tad slow.

Good drinks and a variety of things to eat...I had beef pho while my wife had a curry and our friend had a bahn-mi sandwhich. Outdoor seating is available, though the umbrellas aren't quite enough to block the rain--great for blocking summer sun I bet though. Friendly staff and the macaroons were fun for dessert, as was the brandy and old-fashionds we ordered.

Great food and intimate seating. everything I have tried here is great my favorite is the key lime chicken. It can take a bit to get seated but i have never been disappointed with this place. Amazing cocktails and appetizers!

Went with co-workers for a business lunch. The food was outstanding. We started with two orders of spring rolls--- absolutely amazing, fresh, hot, crispy, with leaf and butter lettuce to hold the hot spring roll + fresh Thai basil, mint & cilantro. Wow. Followed that with #42 grilled pork bun. Incredible flavor.

First time here. The Pho bowl was terrific. Fresh and hearty. Got the braised beef. So much I couldn't quite finish it all. Everyone loved their choices

My local food obsession! So why the 4 stars? Well because the service absolutely sucks!!! I have been a regular of Elizabeth's for the past two years (not that anyone would even notice). I must admit it's my go-to spot whenever I want a good meal. The decor is very inviting and reminds me of a cute cafe in Paris. What girl doesn't love that!? From the wonton soup to beignets, there's certainly something on the menu that you will enjoy. However with all this said, and despite my 'duchess' status (appointed by Yelp!), I will admit that even with the great food, I am turned off by the pretentious attitude that is given to me by the staff. Am I wrong to have higher expectations when I know I'm going to spend $50-$110 on a meal for two?! Every.single.time!? I surely don't think so! Please don't get me wrong, I am not the type of person who ever cares about spending money on good food. However, I am going to stand on my soapbox when a small business does not appreciate my loyalty and gives me attitude. Every.single.time. Elizabeth's I do love you, but I'm very disappointed with how I've been treated given the amount of money I've contributed to your bottomline.

We expected Elizabeth Street Cafe to be packed on a Saturday morning at 9:00am, and we were pleasantly surprised to find it welcoming, comfortably staffed, and no wait. We split several dishes, and found them all to be appetizing, well-executed, and well-plated. We enjoyed the pork buns, the vermicelli cakes, and thought the ginger sausage was delicious. We were happy with our coffee, our servers attentiveness, and want to go back again next time we're in town.

The restaurant is fusion - french and vietnamese. The pork and shrimp crepe is outstanding. Overall I rate this very high because of the great food and nice patio.

Absolutely love Elizabeth Street Cafe. The Bahn Mi, Bun, Vermicelli springrolls and dumplings are absolutely delish.

Very cute place, the atmosphere and ambiance is great. The food on the other hand is just okay but seriously over priced. Not at all worth it! My advice if you really want to, check the place out see how cute it is. Maybe grab a drink or a pastry. Take some pictures if you’d like. Then eat at the food trucks instead. There are a bunch of food trucks just behind the restaurant where you can get better quality food for much less money. I checked the place out with two friends and we all got different dishes to really test the place. We were all disappointed. The pho had no taste and smelled weird. The stir fry was okay but not worth the price. My other friend got an interesting dish which was $17 but had little to no substance. Don’t waste your money here!

My sister took me here the other night because she was craving their fried shrimp and sweet potatoes. This was a sweet little restaurant, very pretty and cute, everything you would want in a south Austin local spot. A little pricey , but the servings are pretty generous. I had that pho with chicken. I want to come back to try the deserts. I am personally not a super big fan of Vietnamese cuisine, at least not what I've tried so far. But it was a good quality meal and I did really enjoy it. The atmosphere is lovely . A great place for a nice date.

Relaxing out door patio with cooling mist. Service was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp noodle salad and ginger sausage with siracha sticky rice and egg. The beignets could have been larger and more fluffy with filling. A fun experience. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

I've being hearing good things about this place for a while but was always hesitant about the menu selection and various fusions. I wasn't sure I would enjoy it but I was so pleasantly surprised that I love everything on the menu. Everything tastes fresh and portion sizes are great. I enjoy family style dining here so you can try a little bit of everything because it really is all so delicious. I even considered going back the next day after my first visit to experience a bit more! My favorites are the ELIZABETH STREET FRIED RICE W/REDFISH, PORK BELLY STEAMED BUNS, HOUSE BAKED BRIOCHE FRENCH TOAST (brunch) and I always make sure to get an order of the Beignets & Jam. You can't go wrong with any selection on the menu, a true mark of culinary excellence. Amazing presentation, great vibes, decent prices. The staff is transparent and eager to accommodate and you'll want to return the next day for more. Parking can be a challenge, so plan accordingly!

We went for an early lunch with my family and ordered the Pho, Banh Mi roasted pork and the steak, also had the fried rice (spicy ) all were really really good.

The evening was hot and we got to sit outside. The place is situated a short distance from S 1st St. So the traffic noise wasn't obtrusive. The waitress was nice as was the food. All in all a good experience. I can recommend Elizabeth's.

My son and I were here for lunch and had the ginger chili oil dumplings as appetizer - great flavor, especially the sauce was good. I had the short rib and kimchi ban me which was tasty but very saucy - so the French bread was half soggy (I prefer crusty bread ). My son had the kefir/lime fried chicken noodle bowl - overall it was too much food for the two of us. Next time we'll just get two appetizers (try the spring rolls) and one main dish to share.

We found this place by chance and it is now one of my #1 favorites in Austin! It's easy to find and they have parking in front and off street. We came on a Sunday with no reservations but had no problem getting a seat. It's pretty hot these days and really wasn't sure about sitting outside, but they have misters and fans and now without question, I would always sit outside. Very quaint place with a very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The menu is a bit overwhelming in that everything sounded amazing and we wanted to try so much. We started off with a butter croissant and simply amazing! Very fresh and clearly they make these themselves. We arrived afternoon so all the chocolate croissants were gone but will have to go back and try those. Freshly baked goods are hard to pass up. For an appetizer, we had the Spring Rolls; I had mine with the Marinated Grilled Tofu and my friend had hers with Shrimp. Amazing spring rolls! They were so fresh and delicious. The peanut sauce wasn't quite what I've been used to at Thai restaurants; I don't know if the peanut sauce is different at a Vietnamese restaurant but it was a little bland. But by all means, make sure to have an order of the Spring Rolls. They are epic! For my meal, I had Red Curry Dan Dan Noodles with Chicken, Bok Choy, Sprouts and Thai Basal. First, come hungry because it's a huge bowl. And I hope you like spicy! Not burning your mouth spicy but definitely has some spice to it. What can I say but if I had to come up with my top ten dishes of any food or cuisine, this dish would be on that list (providing it comes from Elizabeth Street Café). The broth was amazing and the ingredients were the freshest ever! From the first bite, I was amazed at just how delicious this mixture of ingredients would be. If you want authentic Vietnamese food, I know of no better place to recommend. If you are tired of the same old food and want something fresh and delicious, you won't regret coming here! We came without reservations but I imagine they are typically busy so I would check before coming. We can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu. We live out west in Spicewood and as that area develops, we hope Elizabeth Street will consider a new location out near us!

Elizabeth Street Cafe is Thai street food done really well. They have fritters in lettuce leaves to die for, noodle salad bursting with flavour. The list goes on. Loved this place; the food, the staff, the beautiful clientele, the ambiance. Draught beer selection is poor, but the rest is absolutely spot-on. I'm back in the UK after a week in Austin and, frankly, I miss it!

The food here is truly excellent. The only way to deliver Vietnamese food is to include every single one of the herbs they use in their cuisine. Makes it so fragrant and refreshing!!! The 2nd Visit turned a little sour. We had 3.5 hour to kill before our flight and expected to be seated easily as the place was half empty and advised the front of house. I guess the heat has killed their brains and sense of awareness. Sadly we ended up walking out after they left us hanging. If time isn't a constraint you'll be fine here.

We sat outside and were charmed by the environs! He found a new favorite beer! I found a new favorite Maccaron—coconut! My salad was great, however the protein serving was a little sparse!

This charmingly designed restaurant is part French bistro, part South Pacific beachside cafe, and a half-portion of Palm Springs thrown in for flair. All together, these components make for a most lovely dining experience. The menu is inspired from the intersection of cuisines born from France's colonial occupation of Vietnam. Typically, Vietnamese cuisine has discrete vestiges of French cooking from this uneasy era, but at the Elizabeth Street Cafe features dishes that live in this historically fraught time as if to remind us that such times occasionally produce uniquely wonderful things. And there are many wonderful things to be had here. The pasties are first-rate, a testament to Elizabeth's baking program which seeks to rival top patisseries in cities such as San Francisco and Portland. But the truest test of any weekend brunch spot are the quality of its coffee, and of course, its mains. When I seek out a good brunch place, one to which I'd be pleased to return, I look for both comfort and satisfaction. Brunch is a casual meal, and pretense should not be served before coffee. Still, the meal should make one feel calmly glamorous. Elizabeth Street Cafe delivers all that I want : good, creative, unpretentious food, served alongside good, strong coffee, in an environment that is at once homey and fabulous. Who could want more? As adventurous as this reviewer may be, on his next trip to Austin, he need not look further for a nice brunch than the Elizabeth Street Cafe.

We went to eat dinner here late at night wandering around the Austin burbs. It was like 9 or 10. This place had a good vibe so we stopped and were pleasantly surprised. The food was super fresh and we were served quickly and friendly. It was about a thousand degrees outside so the crisp local brew and spring rolls were really refreshing.

i wanted some good Thai food while visiting Austin. our adult children took us to this place. i got what i get at every Thai place, the vermicelli noodle bowl with steak. They called theirs the "Grilled McAllen Ranch Flank Steak". i also had spring rolls. The food was outstanding. every one of us had the same experience. i will be back to this place!!!!! Outstanding food, service. it i had to come up with a complaint it would be that is was a bit noisy.......(but i am sensitive about this when eating out),...........but everyone in the place was enjoying great food and great service, hence the excitement in the air..... a great night out!!!!

I never write reviews. As a matter of fact, this is my very first Yelp review. This place was so bad, I felt the need to come warn people. As first time visitors to Austin, we did some research before going here. Elizabeth's had a lot of great reviews (no idea why) so we had high hopes for this restaurant. We were disappointed. This place was bad on so many levels. I felt like they were just lazy in their cooking resulting in poorly executed dishes. For the wonton soup they didn't even bother coming up with a unique broth...they put 3 wontons in a bland pho broth (same broth they probably use for their pho noodles) and called it good. My husband had the dan dan noodles, and it tasted like ramen noodles. For my main dish I ordered the pork and shrimp crepe (or banh xeo)...the "crepe" part did not have the tumeric/coconut flavor that it should have...which means that they messed up on the batter somehow. The pork inside was literally the filling from their pork belly buns. After some searching I was able to find one piece of shrimp. Not a whole shrimp, mind you, but one (very small) section of a shrimp. AND, they didn't even steam the bean sprouts properly...it was just tossed in the cold hard crepe as an afterthought. Lastly...the fish sauce. Making a good fish sauce (or nuoc mam) is kind of a key thing in Vietnamese-based cuisine...fusion or not. They failed. Miserably. The sauce was pungent, and too acidic. My husband and I love trying new places, and enjoy finding places with unique takes on traditional dishes. We also do not mind paying for quality ingredients and tasty food. This place did not make the cut. It was lazy, subpar, and uninteresting food that no one should be subjected to. Our bill came to $95...I can't believe I paid $18 for banh xeo, and it wasn't even good! My Vietnamese mother would smack me if she knew.

Lovely setting, each time I come here I fall more in love with it. Great service and an intimate setting. Great place to actually hear the person talking across from you. I love the lime fried chicken sandwich, so good! Don't miss the spring rolls, I love the pork and the shrimp rolls, great starters. Don't forget the wonderful cocktails!

It was very busy when we got there, but we didn't have to wait too long. The food was quite good. The server did disappear for awhile after we ordered dessert (the Pavlova), but he apologized when he brought it and it was quite good.

Bright, happy, colorful, delicious place for breakfast. My first time to eat Vietnamese style breakfast and it will not be the last. I had a mushroom and grilled pork omelette with a mango salad. It was so bright with flavors that my mood was instantly elevated. The coffee is french press and dark roasted. The french pastries look amazing and taste just as good. The whole place is clean, brightly colored, and smells fantastic.

The food at Elizabeth Street Cafe is really good and has the flavors of Vietnamese food but with a Texas twist. The pickled vegetables in the Banh Mi were not quite pickled enough—and the sandwich could have used a little more cilantro—but the combination in the House Speciality chicken liver mousse banh mi was flavorful and with a great mix of textures. Poached shrimp in rice paper (summer rolls) were good but again could have used more cilantro. The dipping sauces were very good. Banh Cuon was served beautifully and was really tasty. All of the servings were generous. Service was fine—but then we weren't in a hurry. Many of the pastries were gone by the time we got there for a late morning brunch. We will definitely go back and try some of the other dishes.Very good Vietnamese-like dishes and other fun food….

This place is probably my favorite restaurant in the world. It is truly one-of-a-kind. The food is very good and very authentic Saigon-style fare. I'm half Vietnamese and the preparation here rivals that of my mother; seriously. The vibe and execution are also top notch. From the pastries, to the coffee to the banh mi's, everything is first class. They do every meal well.

This was a recommendation from a local and it was as amazing as they told us it would be. The food was superb, so tasty. The portions were large, the food was great with no faults from anyone in our party and also so full of healthy vegetables and salad. This was a treat. Service was fast and the only fault was the 30 minute wait for our table, but that goes with somewhere being so popular because its so good I guess. Definitely would recommend this.

We arrived after the opera on a Sunday evening without a reservation. No outdoor seating but indoor was available. Bright inside, tables are very close so you will overhear conversations. Service is prompt and efficient with the waitresses all wearing the same style dress (Julia Child?). We started off with the punches which were very good but lacked any taste of alcohol. The Coconut milk punch and the shady Blonde were beautifully presented and great punches but if you want alcohol then order something else. We shared some appetizers and an entree. The grilled tofu spring rolls were very large and filled with tasty grilled tofu. Serranos gave a kick to the taste and they were a favorite. The grilled octopus was a large serving with the octopus tender although a little dry. Pork and Shrimp crepes were a large serving offering lots of meat, shrimp and a delicious sauce. All of the ablove was enough for three adults. Servings are large. I was a little disappointed that the kouign amann was no longer available for dessert. We settled for macaroons, financier and an eclair. All were fabulous. Parking is nearby on street or some valet. I would definitely return!

My hubby and I have our Dr.'s in Austin so when we drive up from Canyon Lake, we're always looking for a good lunch spot. Checked TripAdvisor for pho and tried ESC today. Best pho ever with high quality protein ingredients (unlike a lot of the little store-front pho spots,) and the escargot appetizer was delicious. That baguette took me back to Paris and Dijon - you just don't find that texture, taste, and crust in many places here! We also enjoyed the Da Nang Margaritas. Service was friendly and attentive. Cute decor. Loved the whole experience and we will tell our friends. We look forward to going back and trying other menu items and also want to check out more Tom Moorman restaurants. Liked it enough to buy the ESC cookbook and can't wait to try some of those recipes!

As soon as we walked in there, the vibe was odd. The hostess never had a smile on her face. When I asked for a fork she brought them, but just tossed them in the container. I observed some of her behavior, she smiled towards others. I want to say I think experience my first racists act. She seemed totally different with the other cultures. My partners pho was bland, mine was rather tasty. If your on a budget I wouldn't recommend this place. It's a bit pricey for what you get. Overall, I won't be going there again and I wouldn't recommended it to my friends.

3 of us in our party, there are no apps that are good to split 3 ways. But they ARE very tasty, so ask the staff if they can add a little more to whatever you order if you have an odd number. My dates ordered pho, which was delicious, and I ordered a banh mi (#25). It was my least favorite thing I've ordered there, all I tasted was kimchi, sauce and bread. #23 is where it's at. Also, get the dumplings and order a cocktail.

By far, our favorite meal in Austin. We had the breakfast Bahn Mi with egg, pork belly, avocado and mint, and the steamed pork buns with eggs. Add the Vietnamese coffee and we were in heaven. Lovely setting on south 1st Street. Should not be missed.

Elizabeth Street is one of our very favorite restaurants. Tonight we chose it for her birthday dinner. It was a great choice. What is better: environment, menu, service or food? No matter since all were great.

Not traditional from my experience but incredibly flaky and the strawberry guava jam was the perfect topping.

Great Pho-fusion Vietnamese experience while visiting Austin. We ate several appetizers while enjoying wine and watching other dishes being served. Very popular place, so advise getting there early, pull up a bar stool, and enjoy!

Skip the pho and try some of the many other dishes and cocktails. Especially good were the Strawberry Lemonade cocktail, the sweet potato and shrimp fritters, the mango salad, and the bun and the bahn mi with kafir lime chicken. (The fried "spring" rolls were more like a sausage wrap.) The space is pleasant, as are the staff, though our waitperson on the second visit had to nearly be dragged over to our table on several occasions. Outdoor seating is available. Parking is limited, though allowed on the side street.

We were in Austin visiting relatives & were told this place was good. We spent part of the day walking up & down SoCo. We decided to try it. The service was slow at first, but then very good. I had spring rolls - good, but the sauce was a little spicy. We also shared shrimp fritters. This was very good. Many of the items on the menu we would not want. Either it was hot, which we don't do. or, it had several things we don't like. We were happy with our 2 appetizers & that was our early evening meal. My wife had green tea & was surprised they didn't do refills. We went during their happy hour so the prices were very goo.

Visiting family in Austin who recommended this small delightful cafe for breakfast. The Nutella and banana crepe was delicious as was the fried egg and pork breakfast Bahn Mi. And the Vietnamese coffee was fantastic! Service was cheerful, prompt and helpful. Would definitely eat here again!

Went with the family and had a fabulous meal. The ambience is great and so was the service. The fried rice with red fish was delicious.

I love Vietnamese food so I was excited for a chance to enjoy it in a chic ambience. The restaurant has a cool vibe to it and was very busy the night we were there. They do not take reservations for a small party so we had to wait for about 25 minutes. The food came out quickly and our server was very friendly. I had a vegetarian bun and my husband the vegetarian pho - I can't remember the exact names on the menu. The flavored were amazing and fresh. We didn't get to try the macaroons since many were sold out at that hour (10 pm) but we heard from others that they were tasty. I would definitely recommend the restaurant - it was my favorite meal in Austin!

I have always passed by this place and always wanted to check it out. It's located in a cute little house, serving Vietnamese food as well as baked goods from their 'boulangerie'. The serving sizes are quite big, but easy to finish! We had the shrimp spring rolls (pretty good) as well as the BBQ pork spring roll (a must!!!). I ate the Bun with marinated pork. Delicious!

Full circle moment for our lunch with our UT grad. We started her time at UT here with dinner for her 20th birthday and came back for lunch on grad day. Love this place. Good good and very friendly service. We were able to make an 11:15 lunch reservation. Perfect timing after morning college graduation. Traffic was a little hectic, but they offered 15 minute grace period, which was nice. Seated quickly outside in very comfortable chairs. We had shrimp and steak spring rolls for starters. So fresh and light. Loved the sauces. Also Vietnamese coffee. Than the traditional sandwiches; pork and chicken. The bread was so yummy. I love the cucumber mango salad. Just a really pleasant experience all around. We were able to park on the street just beside the restaurant as the small lot was full. I want to return here for brunch! Always a satisfying experience.

My wife is not a very adventurous eater so introducing her to Vietnamese food was going to be tricky. ESC solved that problem. No need to try and convince her that the Pho place in the strip mall is really good, because the atmosphere at ESC is so perfect. Cute house with outdoor patio on a hip street? Yep. And the food is so killer she actually is the one who suggested we go back again. Magic. Thanks ESC

Cute place with nice ambiance. The food is tasty and the portions are generous for the price. We have a newborn so the lack of changing tables in the bathrooms was a real surprise and bummer - they’ve got plenty of space too, why not install some?!

I always enjoy their twist to Thai dishes. Never been disappointed. Had too many visits here it’s about time to give them their due credit. Only taking out one star is service can be improved.

Thai and Vietnamese are my favorite cuisines. Everything from the sticky buns and fritters to the ban mi and pho were delicious! Highly recommended!!

Really nice spot for lunch/brunch. We went on a Sunday around noon and were able to sit right away in the quaint, albeit cramped dining room. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu offers a great variety of French Vietnamese foods to please the pickiest to the more adventurous eaters. We tried the Sweet Potato and Shrimp fritters, which were a standout--crispy, fresh and well-balanced. The steamed pork buns were the low point, as the pork belly was improperly cooked and therefore tough and gummy at the same time. I got the grilled poem bahn-mi and it was delightful on a perfect baguette, with fresh veggies and herbs, and nicely flavored pork. My husband got their specialty Bahn-Mi and wasn't as pleased with the cold, sliced pork, and preferred mine. We left with some pain au chocolat for our kids, which I plan to try. I hope to go back and try more of their offerings, including the fried rice and the Phō Oh, and the passion fruit mimosas were yum!

The menu is not exceedingly large and yet it was still so difficult to choose what to order, too many delicious sounding mealss. We wound up both ordering things we would get again, and yet know we want to try different menu items next time. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff we really appreciated her suggestions.

We had lunch here today with friends and found the restaurant very busy which is usually a good sign. We ordered our meals and we think the prices are higher than we are used to paying for Vietnamese cuisine especially with such a small portion of meat. Flavors were good and the outside seating was pleasant.

Elizabeth Street is on my flight path. If I am having a crap day, the kouign amann and a french press coffee is the perfect antidote. They are open 7 days a week, all day long, another bonus for those of us who sometimes eat lunch at 4 PM. My favorite thing on the menu is the spicy chicken crunch roll. And while it sound odd, the pork and shrimp crepe is outstanding. I think their banh mis are really top notch too. If you go, save room for dessert. All of them are outstanding. The place is small but there is a bar and service is efficient so tables turn regularly.

I will be back! I've always thought their sign was cute, but who knew the inside was too. Every little detail was thought of, from the pillows on the banquette to the silverware on the table...even the beautiful dresses on the waitresses. The whole breakfast experience was really lovely. Enjoyed a vietnamese coffee with a pretty presentation, the beignets were a great sweet treat, and the unique and seemingly healthy avocado, egg and noodle entree was memorable. I wish I lived closer because this would be such a nice way to start more days.

A little pricey but marvelous food! Sitting outside on a Saturday morning having breakfast was very relaxing.

We got a table here super last minute on our last night staying in Austin. Love love loved it! The food was excellent, we wish we lived here so we could come all the time! Absolutely delicious, spicy and very fresh. The chicken crunch rolls were great. The wait staff were lovely. It was a little cold sitting outside (that was our bad, we are tourists and should have understood the Austin weather and wrapped up warmer!) so bear in mind you may need a sweater! And get some macarons to go!

Starting with dessert, I am now obsessed with pistachio eclairs. Not too sweet mixed with salty, they were divine. I was with three friends, we were seated at a communal table, but had no trouble with that. It's a cozy place. I had the vegetarian bunh and added a spring roll (meat inside), and I thought it was wonderful. We shared an appetizer, the pork buns - delicious!! One friend had snapper bunh and the other ordered one of the banh mi (I am probably slaughtering the spelling of these dishes). All three of us loved our food, so I don't think you can go wrong. Our server was helpful in guiding our choices based on our questions. I did not try the macarons, but they looked lovely. It was not too expensive, and we were able to get in early (pre-theater) on Saturday night.

Food was out of this world. Everything was tasty and different. I am not a sweet tooth and i highly recommend the bread pudding topped with blueberries. Very Austin

When I researched our stop in Austin, I noticed this cafe for its unique menu items. It was everything we hoped for and more. My husband loved his bahn mi breakfast sandwich, and my everything croissant with raspberry lychee jam was from another planet! The Vietnamese coffee was also very good. The cafe had a fun concept merging two cultures, and the atmosphere felt homey and colorful. This was our favorite restaurant we tried in Austin, do not miss this breakfast spot!

I was at the cafe twice this week, once for lunch, when I had the Grilled Marinated Pork Banh Mi and for dinner where we had the garlic dumplings and Grilled Pork Bun. Each was well prepared, tasty and filling. One of the best places for Vietnamese food in Austin.

I heard about this place on the Food Network/Cooking Channel. Michael Simon raved about the Breakfast Bahn Mi (Fried eggs, crispy pork belly, avocado and mint), so I thought the next time in Austin I had to try it. Well, this turned out to be disappointing and I’m not sure why he thought it was the best he ever had. It might have been better if the crispy pork belly was actually crispy and perhaps more than just one sprig of mint. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t worth the drive across town. Also, the service was not very good. All the wait staff walked around with no eye contact, not very personable. I finally had to go to the counter and ask if we were to order here or if someone will come and take our order.

The appetizer was good and filling for two people. Steamed bass was good, according to my friend. I ordered a chicken dish with lettuce rolls, which was mostly lettuce with very little chicken hidden amid a gigantic bowl of lettuce leaves. Overpriced, not tasty or satisfying as an entree. The place was crowded and people were crammed together. It was too loud to hear one another as we sat across from one another at two person table sandwiched between much larger parties. If it hadn’t been so hot outside, we would have opted for one of the few outdoor tables. When we asked questions, the waitress seemed hurried and a little put out. Will be unlikely to return. If I did, I’d stick to the appetizers, which seemed shareable and more reasonably priced as a result.

Wife and I just returned from an extended mid-afternoon at Elizabeth Street Cafe and it was wonderful. We sat in the covered side yard patio, heat lamps surrounding us in this cloudy 50 degree day and each thoroughly enjoyed our selected flavors of hot tea and shared a chocolate croissant. Delicious! No one rushed us, parking was easy, and simply enjoyed the cafe's casual ambiance. Highly recommend for a Austin style winter outing outside.

Upon hearing the name "Elizabeth Street Cafe", one's mind does't automatically think 'French Boulangerie mixed with Upscale Vietnamese cuisine located next to a Food Trailer Court', but that's exactly what you get. Parking can be an adventure, as the local residential streets are your best bet. Service was fantastic. Our party of four stuck to the appetizer menu this time around (we had more than half of what was offered) and with drinks our bill was well over $100. The food was quite tasty and the french desserts (macaroons and pastries) were a unique treat for that type of meal. All in all, a hipster haven for those who don't mind paying a little extra for a satisfying dining experience.

Half price apps and banh mi (sandwich) 4 of us split 7 different items. All just right spicey. Our server divided each sandwich in quarters. Great service.

My family enjoyed a great brunch at Elizabeth Street Cafe. Service was great and food was very interesting. Outdoor seating is kept reasonably cool with their misting system. I had a mango salad that had some kick but was missing shrimp that menu indicated would be part of the salad. Egg rolls were delicious, as was tuna salad. Parking is very limited so you'll probably need to park in neighborhood behind the restaurant.

Recommended to try Elizabeth Street Café, located in a neighborhood district. Service was excellent, Banhmi breakfast as informed by my husband was great.I had the recommended Brioche French toast with blueberries, bread was amazing. Sit outside under the tree and enjoy a great breakfast. A great way to start your day in Austin.

Came here with my son, he was familiar with the menu so he ordered several appetizers, everything we had, tar tar, escarole, I had a thai noodle dish all were fabulous. I esp liked the coconut sorbet. Things were a bit pricey but we were treating ourselves

Hidden away, sort of, in a renovated old house in Austin's "lady streets" (Elizabeth, Mary, Annie, Johanna Streets...) and off on First Street rather than South Congress, Elizabeth Street cafe is worth looking for. The agenda is Vietnamese with appropriate French touches, the vibe is laid-back Austin, and the kitchen is terrific. Madame and I stopped in for a first visit on a recent Tuesday evening at around 6:25 in the evening, and the place was already buzzing. In fact we really got lucky -- we got the last indoor two-top that opened up for a good hour or so. There is a side porch with more tables, in warmer weather some outdoor dining in the front, and a fairly roomy bar area offers a few tables too. Best to arrive a little early, however, as reservations are only accepted for parties of eight or more. In any event we were very happy to be there. Service is fast and quite friendly, and the menu offers a surprisingly wide range of Vietnamese favorites. Along with a really nice dry Muscadet Sevre et Maine, we began with pork-belly buns on my side of the table and a barbecue pork starter for Madame -- both excellent, and I would recommend the pork buns to *anyone* -- they were that good. Main dish for Madame was a Bun bowl with really tasty marinated pork, lots of veg, and vermicelli, all of which worked quite well with each other. My main dish, on the recommendation of our server, was a Bun bowl with crispy snapper; and here, on this particular night in Austin, Texas, Mister I-love-spicy-food (your intrepid correspondent) finally met his match. The snapper's skin side was coated in a red pepper sauce that had genuine first-strike capability; really good, but after several bites I had to chicken out, remove the skin and pepper sauce, and just go for the flesh of the fish. And that was *really* good. A small kouign (a Very Sticky Bun popular in Brittany, and justifiably so) was Madame's dessert choice, while I went for the sorbets (mango, and sake). And a good time was had by us -- There is a full bar with a short but imaginative wine list. The indoor dining area where we sat was small, packed with young people, and (therefore?) quite loud. One young fellow, who wanted the world (and then some) to know he had actually been to college and spent time in frat houses, was willing to tone it down for a time when asked -- all to the good. Service, as noted, was welcoming and knowledgeable. All varieties of plastic are welcome; parking consists of a few places out front, some others in a side lot, and then a number of curbside places in Elizabeth Street. As it happens, we have a handicapped parking tag at the moment, and lucked into a spot right out front. Others -- and we too, when (as we hope) we no longer need the parking permit -- might budget a few minutes' time for looking for parking, but it ought to be manageable. The no-reservations policy is unfortunate, in my view, but hardly uncommon in this area -- so, come early and enjoy a glass of wine while waiting for a fine Vietnamese feast. We will definitely come back, and we look forward to ranging through the menu --

Okay, I'll be honest, my friend and I are from cities that have TONS of great Vietnamese restaurants so we might be a little biased. The prices here weren't bad but a bit high for banh mi and pho. We had Vietnamese coffee, one of the infused iced teas, the crab spring rolls (which are actually summer rolls), and a pistachio eclair. Everything was decent but the flavors all seemed a bit too strong on everything if that makes sense. Good but not great. Very crowded and service was kind of indifferent.

Love this place. Arrived in Austin for our first visit. A friend took us to this charming restaurant. Service was incredible and food was excellent. I had the Cauliflower, Bok Choy, White Miso and Toasted Seaweed Pho. Incredible taste with just the correct amount of spice. Took half of it back to the hotel. The portions are large. My husband and friend each had a Bun. My husband had the Crispy Gulf Snapper Bun and he said the Snapper was done to perfection. Great find. They have a great breakfast menu. Think we will go back for breakfast. Above all, the service was fabulous. Food arrived quickly. Water glasses refilled. And we were allowed to relax after dinner and talk. Inviting environment. This is definitely not a tourist spot, it is a locals. Thank you to our friend Meri for taking us there.

Meal for three outside at night was very pleasant. We shared dishes that were tasty and well prepared. Good choice of dishes with a list of Sake, cocktails and a short wine list, mainly French provided the liquid choices. Food is arranged by appetisers, entry courses and three groups of main dishes plus specials. Portions generous as you expect in USA. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff made for an agreeable evening meal. Reasonably priced. Bookings not taken.

This is my wife and I’s second visit in two weeks. We typically don’t dine at the same restaurant this frequently but we really fell in love with the food here. It is always crowded but worth the wait. You could complain that it is a bit expensive but as I said the food is delicious. Enjoy.

Best croissants in Austin! Really tasty baked goods and espresso for bfast. Fresh fruit, granola, and yogurt kept me going for hours. Wonderful soups. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. A top DC restauranteur suggested it. Hit it all 3 days I was in the city. Yum!

This cafe is super quaint and great place to take friends/family! Cute and has an assortment of foods. The ban mi was fantastic and the almond pastry was everything I wanted it to be. Definitely recommend this place!

Had lunch with my daughter and what a lovely lunch. It took a little while and they are very busy on Friday lunch, but it was wonderful. I had a sandwich and she had noodles. My sandwich was with pan fried chicken thighs and tons of shredded vegetables. They added sprouts and avocado on request. The spring rolls were wonderful!

My host took me to this busy, very popular and new restaurant and said it was exceptional. Well she was right, the food was flavorful, well prepared, incredibly fresh and reasonably priced. I had the delicious shrimp and avocado rice paper spring rolls, as an appetizer (actually a very large appetizer !). For my main course I had the McAllen Ranch crispy braised short rib Bu`n, which includes lettuce, carrots, cucumber, peanuts and fish sauce. It was tasty and filling. I did not have room for desert, but they sure looked amazing, next time !

Vietnamese style food, reasonably priced (by Austin standards..), and pretty good service, even if the waitress seemed a little bemused by a group of British people! The "Bun's' we had (no, not rolls but cold bowls) were very tasty and filling, but watching out for the hidden slices of chilli! Recommended.

We've enjoyed Elizabeth's many times. I love the spring rolls so much, it's hard to try anything else! Everything we've enjoyed there screams fresh. Going back tomorrow morning for brunch!

Love this place. Has a warm & friendly neighborhood feel while still seeming chic and elegant. The food has been fantastic every time I’ve gone—fresh and bright flavors. It’s always packed but service is prompt & courteous. This is my daughter’s favorite restaurant and we stop there now every time we’re in “town.”

Had a great dinner here- sat outside which was lovely. Food was great, and staff was incredibly attentive to my friend's allergies.

I feel like I need to start these reviews by saying that I was born and raised and Austin. I also don't cook, so we eat out every night with at least a couple of our six kids. That gives you an little insight on where I'm coming from. This quaint restaurant has a great atmosphere. I love the light airy way that it is decorated. You can sit inside or out. I have taken my two year old, but not sure I would say it was kid friendly. Parking can be difficult and I would go on off hours to avoid a two hour wait. The food is delicious. Would never imagine Vietnamese/French fusion could be so incredible. Love this place.

My wife and a friend had dinner there one evening. Everything we had was excellent, even to our Vietnamese friend, and the service was good. This is a lively, informal place.

Refreshing tastes from an interesting menu. The food manages to satisfy and refresh with a distinct healthy eating bend. A pleasant place to visit

I can tell you that I've eaten there by myself, and with friends, but I took my wife this last time so that I could get the full descriptive picture. It is a nice place to eat. Inside is really noisy, but it's the place to eat and be seen. outside it's cozy, and comfortable. It could use some outside airconditioning, but in general it's pretty bearable in the evenings and mornings. The food is fantastic, and everything on the menu is tasty and well prepared. The service, well.....I found that if you are a regular, you are treated as a regular, and if you are a newly, well...then you are treated with much less hospitality, and the staff seem less friendly and a bit hoity toity, to an extreme even. I find that the old Austin vibe of "young and friendly" from the staff a bit lacking. It does take away from the overall charm of the place, but my wife found it really great, and she said that she would eat there regularly if she could eat outside. The roar of the crowds inside were just too much to handle. The vibe is uncharacteristic of the locale, but I dig it anyways.

We met a group of friends at Elizabeth Street for dinner and drinks. As always, the venue, menu, service and food were all outstanding.

Was looking for amazing spring rolls and this was not the place. Singapore noodles were okay but I was not blown away. Atmosphere was delightful but not sure why such a long wait when we saw at least 4 tables open. We ended up at one of those tables. Place was nice but probably will not be going back any time soon.

Love this place! Of course, I'm partial because my daughter use to work here, before she moved to Australia! There may even be photos of her still on their website. But really, it's an awesome place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Food is so YUMMY! Great write-ups everywhere you search on the internet. If you like Asian food, I guarantee you'll love this place, and will crave many things on the menu...over and over!

This place was awesome for brunch. The wait was about 30-40 minutes but that gave us time to stroll around the neighborhood. Great service, cute space, and the food was wonderful! I'd definitely go again.

Great food. The steamed buns were delicious but wish there had been more! I would definitely try the bahn mi next time. It looked delicious.

Charming little house, friendly staff and really excellent food! I'm not a Vietnamese food fanatic, & some of the flavors were unexpected (even in simple items like the berry/yogurt/granota bowl), but it was fresh, complex & wonderful! So glad I remembered that a reviewer had said to order the beignets, because they were unbelievably good, and the jam was some of the best I can ever remember having. The everything croissant was another of those unexpected twists that raised it to a whole new level. Hubby loved the breakfast bahn mi. Simple food done really, really well with friendly staff in a charming & homey place that has a beautiful patio. I'm in heaven.

Don't show up here unless you are really hungry (or sharing a plate). The soups are served in 6 or 8 cup terrines and the entrees are on heaping plates. Excellent food, and spicy means spicy - no fooling.

Delicious Pho and then perfect French pastries, what more could you wish for? Ambiance? Yes, inside is cute and French patisserie vibes and outside is so pretty. There is more then what I️ described to eat and it’s all tasty

I vascillated between a 4 or a 5 for Elizabeth Street Cafe. I don't eat there regularly on my own, but like to take friends or acquaintances there as a taste of Austin: quirky, a touch pricey, but very tasty. Though the portion sizes aren't huge, they're enough to get a good taste. My favorite items over time have evolved to the brownie fudge pasties and the flavored iced teas. Because the outside seating area is surrounded by trees, it's comfortable most of the year. Inside is an interesting mix of spaciousnes and light carved out of an originally small house. If you're with a larger group, there's a nice size round table at the end of the small narrow dining room set by a very pretty, light-filled window. There's not much parking in the parking lot, mostly handicap spaces (which I think is a good idea), but there is lots of street parking into an older neighborhood that leads to the South Congress small shops and bars area. I definitely recommend at least one visit to Elizabeth Street Cafe and see how it appeals to you (smiles). I like it.

Recommend this place. Food was really great, served by sweet people in a nice restaurant that has a cool amb to it. Its as if the beach is right outside. But no no. Neighbourhood is really cool with lots of chill out places, shops, bars and more! We had noodles singapore style. Spicy, not hot. Wife had noodles in a red curry broth/soup with chicken. This dish was really hot 🌶🌶🌶 All dishes are a bit pricy, but quality is good!

Our dog sitter recommended this cute French V ientamese cafe and we’re so glad we made the treck from the Driskill Hotel. Our server, Anna S. was friendly, attentive and made us feel welcome. If I had a restaurant I would have hired her on the spot. The hostess (not as friendly) wouldn’t seat us at an open table in the dining room area - stating that it was “reserved”. However, in the hour+ we were there enjoying a leisurely lunch, no one sat at that table and it wasn’t great for my back to sit at the counter stools which unfortunately aren’t very comfortable. Give Anna S a raise and have a chat about customer service to the hostess. Regardless, don’t miss out on eating here because the food is delicious, generous portions, and adorable patio seating (wish it wasn’t so hot when we were there, my back would have enjoyed sitting outside vs the counter stools).

We went around open on a Sunday morning and it was nice and quiet. The place was so cute! We got Vietnamese iced coffee, an almond croissant with strawberry guava preserves, and a breakfast bahn mi with fried pork belly, fried eggs, mint cilantro. It was all good, but the sandwich was really delicious.

Finally made it to Elizabeth Street Cafe but was unfortunately not impressed. No one greeted me upon entry and then I was seated at the barstool area that had clearly not been cleaned since the previous diners. I sat for a considerate length of time before a waitress appeared and asked if I was ready. I ordered a bahn mi and asked for a water. My water never came so I asked the hostess for a glass. My food was brought by another lady and I didn't see my waitress again until she brought my check, sat it in front of me and then asked 'you weren't going to order anything else, right?' I got up to pay at the front or I might still be waiting on my waitress to reappear. Another solo diner sitting next to me experienced the same level of service (or lack there of). The bahn mi was good but I don't see myself returning.

One of the best meals we ate during our trip to Austin. Someone recommended it for dinner, but felt more like a breakfast/lunch place to me (though I didn't visit in the evening so who knows!). Service was super friendly and everything we ate was delicious and so flavorful from pastries, to wonton soup, to spring rolls, to sticky rice with housemate ginger sausage and poached eggs. Mellow outdoor seating and very cute inside. Highly recommended!

Am eating right now, I have a mouth full of delicious pork bun and had to stop to give this place 5 stars! Decor is lovely, warm, friendly. Food is fresh and delicious and the staff are attentive. We are here at an of time of day (5pm) but it's fine, it could be very busy at normal times though!

I went for breakfast. I had the French toast. It was good. Very cute atmosphere, service was good. Small tables so you are close to your neighbors.

This place continues to be a favorite lunch spot of ours when we are in Austin. Tasty, well prepared dishes. We had dumplings, red curry dan dan, house special banh mi & our daughter got a Sambal sandwich & a coconut julep. Always good & friendly service.

Came here for lunch on the recommendation of our tour guide. Had no idea what to expect but food was yum. We had the sweet potato fritters to start and then both had Bahn mi. It was very tasty. Really like the stylish decor too.

I don't normally write review. But when I first landed in Austin after a 3 hrs flight and woke up at 5am this morning first thing I wanted is a bowl of good Pho to refresh. So i google Vietnamese food near me. This place popped up. My mistake to not read the reviews. When I saw the place I was amazed and when I saw the menu I was shocked. $18 for pho, $17 for bánh cuốn, lowest price for bánh mì is $9. Really? I ran a banh mi shop in Houston years ago. The banh mi was 10 times better for 1/2 The price. The pho in my hometown which is Washington metropolitan area with the living cost at least twice as much in Austin didn't cost me $18. This is way overpriced and it's not good. Price is not an issue if the foods are good. But the foods here are not. Will never recommend any one here.

We went in a party of five in the early evening. If you come much later, you will almost certainly have to wait and for good reason. The food is really good (tasty, varied and fresh). The service is friendly The ambiance is airy and pleasant. The prices are reasonable. I would have given five stars but it is just too hard to get into!

This place was a favorite of my niece and so we went. I am sadly a plain eater, but it was super popular and great dishes, they were even able to accommodate my plain eating and were nice about it.

We were in Austin visiting relatives & met friends for a bite. Wehave been here before & it was a conveniet location. We arrived in time for happy hour - half price appetizers & discounted drinks. We hared 3 appetizers. 2 varieties of spring rolls - BBQ pork & Flank steak. Both were ok. We also shared steamed rice rolls - it was good. The service was great. Server was friendly & patient while we decided what to get. Prices for appetizers at happy hour are very good. Drink prices (even with discount) were high.

For great tasting and healthy Asian food, Elizabeth Street Cafe is the choice. On a recommendation we drove across town to carry out their food. It was easily worth it. This is a place you should try.

There were four of us. Each got a different dish and we all liked what we ordered. I had breakfast Pho and it was very good.

We were taken to this restaurant by our friends on or first day visit to Austin. The service was great and the food was fabulous. I ordered the Pho Bo Beef and it was one of the best I’ve had. All of the other meals looked good and everyone complimented their dishes. Prices were reasonable and generous portions I hope we go back.

I visited with my dear friend for my birthday and was not disappointed. The Pho was flavorful and hot. I ordered the vegan option and it was truly amazing. It was spicy and really hit the spot. We shared macarons for dessert which were also great. The Pink Martini is a must try.

Casual, friendly vibe with a great and tasty modern take on traditional Vietnamese dishes. This is definitely a good lunch spot a few blocks away from the hectic South Congress restaurants.

We stopped at this small and very attractive restaurant for a snack of excellent croissants and coffee which was served graciously to us even though most patrons were having dinner. This is primarily a Vietnamese restaurant and bakery, and while we didn't taste any of the soups or pho that we saw at other tables, that looked so appetizing that if we are back in Austin, this will be at the top of our list for a re-visit. At the corner of South First and Elizabeth Streets, this is just one block from the very popular and quirky SoCo (South Congress) area -- well worth the one block detour!

Cozy atmosphere Waiting 5min before greeted by a host then waited an additional 15min to get seated at a table we saw was empty since arriving kids ordered Pho-rice noodle bowl added additional chicken to one and beef to the other sampled flavor was mediocre at best couldn't believe an additional $4.00 for a small strip of beef/chicken for the Pho bowl I ordered the Banh Mi #25 Short rib and kimchi on a baguette flavor was good presentation was not as seen on other pictures via social media seemed half done in my honest opinion straws were brought for our drinks half way through our meal dessert nutella Eclair was tasty the iced Vietnamese coffee I would score a 3 star of 5 disappointed with the entire service parking was chaotic and very tight will not return or recommend

You can get high-quality French Vietnamese food here -- the seafood pho is particularly good and interesting -- but not everything works equally well and it feels quite pricey for what it is.

Cute little spot but very untraditional for breakfast. The place would be good for a couple to enjoy but not a place for kids. The kid menu is not very kid friendly and the restaurant is not flexible in trying to make things comfortable or work for kids. We went on a recommendation of a friend who lives in Austin so we didn’t look into the details before arriving. We ended up having adult breakfasts and hitting the taco truck next door after.

I've been to Elizabeth Street Café several times, now, over a number of years. I'll admit, when it first opened, the employees were typically (for Austin) too cool for school. Having just revisited twice over the past week, I will say, I'm s big fan. The food feels cleaner than ever, the service is warm and attentive. While I can't say it is my favorite Vietnamese place on the planet--I have an LA favorite that I can't betray--I count this among the really great ones. Certainly, you won't find better ingredients pretty much anywhere. I can't wait to go back, really. It's addictive.

We liked this place so much, we dined there 2x in 3 days! Inventive and yummy. Great service. Lovely outside setting. Get there early. It gets crowded.

Hotel recommended this restaurant and it is very good. I call it Nuevo because they through in their own twists to traditional Vietnamese. Had tofu spring rolls and hey were served with 3 nice dipping sauces. Then had chicken dada (something like that), pretty spicy but not something I would get again. Not saying it was bad just not my taste. The people next to me had a vermicelli dish that they said was excellent. It was very good and reasonably priced. Next time I am in Austin I want to go back. Take a shot, think you will be happy you did

I come from Houston, arguably the best Vietmanese food city in the US. I've been eating it for decades. This place is really good. I loved the grilled chicken thigh Bun. Outstanding.

We were in the mood for a pho and four of us just had lunch there. This restaurant/boulangerie offers a cute setting with tables outside and inside by a bar as well as individual tables and one large communal table for 12 persons. We were seated at the communal table and felt that the space was a bit tight. We ordered some appetizers, pho soups and a Bahn sandwich. Everything was tasty but I wish our soups were hotter. Our lunch turned out to be quite pricey. If you like Vietnamese food in a cute setting, that's a good spot.

These folks really focus on the French influence on Vietnamese food. It's a true patisserie with gorgeous croissants and macarons. Over two days, we had several items. Ham and gruyere croissant was such a highlight (make sure it's warm). They make an "everything" croissant with cheese. This can be enhanced with homemade jams including guava/strawberry and mango/lime. Sticky rice with poached egg and ginger sausage is a treat not found on many breakfast menus. The only non-breakfast type item on their morning menu is a hearty chicken rice soup. Unfortunately, they wouldn't serve a traditional banh mi until 11am. It would have been amazing to have the chicken thigh version (or meatball or steak or...) for my plane trip home. I'm not sure when I'll get back to Austin but I regret not trying their lunch/dinner options.

Outstanding Pho and Bon-Mi. Among the best in Austin. A fun place to go to enjoy the delights of Vietnam. PS. Don't forget the Vietnamese Coffee.

What a fantastic place. The Wife and I recently went to Elizabeth St. Café for brunch and were blown away. When you have the discussion about when to come back next, while walking out the car after your fist visit, you know the place is doing something right!!! We chose the place because we had never been to a restaurant that was a Vietnamese French combo. Were we glad we did. The menu is creative with a lot of variety. Spice level slightly leaning towards the hot side but definitely not too much. The place is casual with an ample dose of Austin funky. I had made a reservation a couple of days before and we were glad we did, although the walk-ins we saw did not have that long a wait. We sat inside, but there was plenty of outside tables too. Good mix of folks from older staid looking couples to the cowboy hipsters and frat guys nursing a hangover. Even though the place was very busy, we were immediately greeted, and the service never missed a beat the entire meal. My wife loved her Vietnamese coffee and my French press was strong but not bitter. Unable to decide from the ample creative menu, we ordered several items and shared each. We kicked things off splitting the delicious Ham and Gruyere croissant which was as buttery and rich as the last one I had in Paris. The unexpectedly sumptuous Chicken Liver Mousse, Pork Pâté, Roasted Pork Banh Mi was the star for me, while my wife adored the Gulf Shrimp Steamed Rice Rolls. The portion size was enough to fill you up without feeling like you needed to be rolled out the door like Violet Beauregarde. We can’t wait to go back and dive deeper into the menu.

When we arrived, they were serving breakfast, but by the time we were seated, the menu had changed to lunch. Some of our party were challenged to find things they could eat, and even the adventurous eaters said their entrees were too spicy. Food was good but the wait and service could be improved.

It seemed so odd to me that the pairing of Vietnamese and French food would be any good, but I was sadly mistaken. This little restaurant was packed to the brim when I had brunch last Friday. I ordered the PHO with chicken and cilantro meatballs and I don't think there are enough words in the dictionary to describe how disgustingly savory and amazing my meal was. I would go there everyday for lunch if I could.

This is my third time to Austin and my third time here. The food is Vietnamese inspired. I had Singapore noodles with fried egg and pork for breakfast. Out of this world! Great outdoor seating.

I am so embarrassing with my colleagues to have lunch here and all of them think this is a good vietnamese goods. Please google again about vietnamese foods in Austin or even better in Houston Texas. Our server, the young lady with lots of tattoo tried to intimidate me with one of the noodle dish here that have build in sriracha with their special soy sauce. Anyway, I end up ordered some expensive $19 salty ramen noodle w/ some curry soup and it was the worst Asian bowl I ever had in my life. I tried to eat but only made it to 1/4 bowl. I rather eat raw spam and would taste much better. I can see this restaurant trying to make Việt foods but no dish around my table that I can have appetite. Folks, there are many delicious Việt foods in Austin and this is not even near to Việt food. Many dishes can taste 8x-10x better for less than half of the price here. The vietnamese coffee here is horrible. Place to try real Việt foods... 1) sun flower 2) Phở Hà Nội 3) Phở Danh I, personally don’t recommended this place! Service here also sucks.

Son took wife & I to celebrate our 33rd. Great food and wonderful outdoor seating! Got to finish the meal with desert! Will return!

Elizabeth St Cafe is a Great choice for Asian Fusion cuisine. A large, varied menu offers many options of both spicy and non-spicy choices. The large portion size appetizers provides the opportunity to try several different dishes. The Texas Akaushi Beef Carpaccio, Niman Ranch Pork Belly Steamed Buns, and Ginger Pork Spring Rolls are just a few that are delicious and non-spicy. The Ginger Chili Oil Dumplings with Pork and Shrimp have Great flavor with a bit more spice. The Crispy Short Rib and Kimchi Bahn Mi also a very nice choice. All the veggies are very fresh. The buns and other bakery items, sweet and savory, are baked fresh in house. A nice choice of wines, cocktails, and beer is also available. Highly recommend the Asahi Dry Black for dark beer fans. There is seating inside and out and the service is exceptional.

This was our second visit at this place during our visit in Austin. I also think that was our last visit. We did not order the pho this time; we had a few appetizers, some bahn-ma sandwiches and deserts. Most of the food appeared fresh, but we questioned the shrimp they used in an appetizer. They had a very strong iodine taste. I also wish there was more tofu in the spring rolls. With a 20% tipping, our check for 4 was about $150. That’s too much!

Oh, Elizabeth's! In a city as delicious as Austin, dare I call you my favorite? Incredible romantic atmosphere, charming decor (think: Pinterest dreamland), beautiful pastries, and a noodles/banh mi menu to make any foodie crazy. The perfect food for a hot day, surrounded by charm and perfection in every detail. Great cocktail selection, but wait, there's more! You can end it with a cafe au lait just as if you were Cafe Du Monte in New Orleans. It's truly spectacular!

This is a must go to while in Austin if you love fine Vietnamese food with a French flavor. The coffee menu alone was a treat, as we tried to sample all of it. The breakfast menu also offers a large selection from noodles to omelettes fusing peppers, fruit, beef, pork, and other Asian spices. Nice friendly staff added to a great breakfast in this very neat restaurant. I will eat there again while in Austin.

We ate breakfast there and everything went above and beyond our expectations. Service was great too. We had the french toast and it was the best I think I've ever had. Id go back to Austin just to eat here again. Must give it try!

I’m accustomed to family run Vietnamese restaurants. This hipster cafe is notable for its long waiting times and high prices. $16 for miso based vegetarian pho plus $6 more to add 2 pieces of tofu. Shameless.

VERY pleasant space with lovely service, beautiful baked goods for here or take home. French/Viet influences. We split a Roasted Pork & Wood Ear Mushroom Omelette with mango, cucumber, basil, crispy shallots - totally savory and scrumptious! This place is a winner.

I came here on a recent business trip to Austin on a friend's recommendations. Great spot to come for breakfast or lunch before shopping at the hip boutiques on nearby South Congress. Exceptional French-inspired Vietnamese food. The pastries were exceptional as was the Vietnamese lemonade. My banh mi was good, but whatever you get, ask for some of their green sauce on the side. It's amazing! Friendly service. The place gets crowded so arrive early. As I was alone, I was able to sit right away at the counter. I only wish I had bought extra pastries to take home.

Food is very good, service could be better, seating could better.Busy on weekends. Typical south Austin crowd.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in my hometown. Every time I come here I order something different, and I haven't disliked a dish. All of the phos are amazing. If you are a fish fan, order the crispy fish fried rice. The atmosphere, fast service, and delicious food keep me coming back for more.

Loved this place! I wish I could take it back home with me. The Vietnamese tea and salt & pepper shrimp bahn mi were excellent and perfect for lunch! My friend had the noodles with snapper and said that was great as well. Our server was wonderful and able to give us good recommendations. Highly encourage you to give it a try while you’re in Austin!
Lots of Options for Vietnamese Food
The four of us all got something different and shared a couple of appetizers first. Although I specifically asked my server if my entree choice was spicy (hot) and she said it wasn't, it was on the ragged edge for me. However, I have to say that everyone else was thrilled with their choices. The macaron dessert is cloyingly sweet with a very grainy texture -- like a sugary kid's cereal. Would opt for the other couple's choice of the pot de creme next time.
