Sides are Super!

By Robert R |

Nothing fancy, but clean and the servers were friendly. Fried chicken had a super-crispy light crust. The dinner comes with a choice of three sides from a several specialties. The collard greens were the best I've ever had. The fired okra was crunchy good. The red beans and rice were tasty. The potato salad was too. I will be back for more.

Collard Greens remind me of the South

By Foodnando |

I am so happy i found this little gem in Las Vegas. I am constantly on the look out for Great Fried Chicken (made per order } and Mac & Cheese and this place delivered on both. But the big hit was the Tasty Collard Greens. Not sense i have worked in the Carolina's have i had great Greens. I will be back for more. Red Beans and Rice looked amazing. I have to mention that the Corn Bread muffins are addicting you have been warned.

This is good food for good times ~

My sister and her husband took us here for dinner. The sweet tea was perfect, the food was delicious, the service is excellent. The manager owner even came out and greeted us. I will return~

Wow

The food was great, the service was wonderful, the portions were enormous, and the prices were very reasonable. Not much more you can ask for!

Sweet Catfish!

By 63kathyl |

So good, so much, pricy. Catfish deep fried to perfection, mac&cheese was yummy, oh my fried cabbage with bits of bacon, red beans with a slight bite, cornbread! Just darn good food!

liver and onions

By missgoodcookie |

We visited just a few days ago for dinner. We ordered liver and onions and country fried steak. No complaints at all. The fried cabbage, mac and cheese, and greens were tasty. Cornbread was hot.I had my taste buds ready for some sweet potato pie but they ran out so I had peach cobbler and I wasn't disappointed but when I return in august I want my pie.

Tasty delicious food

By Glendy22 |

I went with a few friends to try this place out and we enjoyed it! It took a while (35minutes) to get our food but the delicious Taste made up for it. I had fried chicken with greens, macaroni and cheese and mash potatoes and can't forget the corn bread and everything was super good! I definitely recommend it.

Hidden Gem located in North Las Vegas

By LVgabeg |

So was driving through a strip mall and was looking for a place to eat and noticed this place called EllaEm's Soul Food. At first I figured a restaurant like this in a strip mall, wouldn't be great but figured why not and thought I would give it a try. I am glad I did. It is a quaint little place that fills up quick. The service was quick and friendly. The menu is limited but in a good way. I had the country fried steak and with that and most of there dinner entrees you get 3 sides and some corn bread. I had Okra, Yams and Potato Salad. The corn bread was a challenge to get out of the wrapper. This might have been just me as my wife didn't have an issue. But was tasty. The main course came and it was quite a bit of food. (I'm a big guy and I am stuffed) The country fried steak was smothered in a light brown gravy that complimented it's flavor, I don't have a lot to compare this too as I don't eat it very often. But it was good with a nice flavor. The sides on the other hand. The yams were candied and again not something I eat a lot of. It wasn't bad, but I would try something else next time. The okra and potato were out of this world. The Okra was some of the best I have ever had, and I eat this stuff a lot and the potato salad, I dare say it rivals my mom's and that is saying a lot. I think for two people with drinks it was under $30.00 Overall this place is Very Good and worth a stop. It isn't a fancy place, but it is a nice place to sit and have a meal.

Great cooking like mom use to make!

By NanKansasCity_MO |

Everything about this place creates a great dining experience! The decor was very warm and welcoming. The service was fast and the young lady was so nice. The food was fabulous! No generic gravy! Chicken gravy for my smothered baked chicken and my husband had beef gravy with his meatloaf! The mashed potatoes were real, not flakes, and made with cream and butter. The yams were great! Great place to visit and enjoy!

OMG

By Felicia W |

We have been here 3 times already. A must go to whenever we are in Vegas!! Some of the best soulfood you have ever tasted. Its about 15mins from the strip via freeway. This is one of the main reasons we rent a car. EllaEms is worth the drive. Food is the best. The place is small so you might have to wait for a table. Trust me it is well worth it

No place like home!

By Flat Stanley explores the World |

I've been away from the Alabama "black belt" for a long time and I've not enjoyed some authentic soul food with ALL the fixins for many years. ... That search has finally and gratefully come to an end. Not since my fav diner in Tuskegee AL 30 years ago have I had melt in your mouth corn bread, crispy okra, saucy black eyed peas, creamy turnip greens that make me want to "slap my momma!" (Thats the biggest southern compliment by the way). Literally it brought back dear memories that only such food can bring. Brought a smile to my face and stomach and wife and my promise to them I'll be back. ... With the distancing rules the service was slow but if you understand how long it takes to make this right, the wait was totally reasonable. The sweet tea was def not Alabama grade but still a blessings. They even had spiced vinegar sauce to go on my greens. My family grows them in GA and I understamd the time and effort it takes to make them right. Go try it. As per, you don't go to such places for the atmosphere.... And once you get the food in front of you, there is no care for it anymore. If you agree and find this helpful pls make this reveiw. .. See photos as proof.

Good Eats

By Polaris_Roy |

Good food period. I was a little out of place being the only Caucasian in the place. The server was nice, and the service was fast. I never had fried cabbage before, good stuff, mac & cheese, homemade, and great red beans & rice.

Soulful Southern Fare

By Alicia M |

Friday night delight! We had the Catfish, Red Snapper and Oxtails. Sides: Mac&Cheese, Fried cabbage. This place was busy but not overly crowded. 2 people to wait tables, greet and run the register and yet, they were attentive, pleasant and quick. If you like Southern food you will be pleased with the quality.

Fantastic southern style food in vegas

By MooreVegasFood |

This place is no where near the strip and is further up north than I would like but, they are so yummy. The fried okra and fried catfish and sweet potato are some of my favorite items. I will continue to make the drive for authentic food.

You will love it.

By FrankinMT |

The food is Really good. We have been a couple times and tried several items on the menu as a group. Everything we ate including the sides was great. Allen the server was very friendly and worked hard for us. We don't live in Las Vegas or we would go every week. The chicken is amazing. Not a fancy place but you will enjoy it.

Good food and service

By darkgable206 |

Best Soul Food in Las Vegas. I've tried plenty in the area whenever I visit. I keep going back to Ella Ems for a reason. North Vegas is the area its in. Check out there menu and see what's in there. I usually get the catfish or the meatloaf with Mac and cheese, yams and black eye pees. They bring the food out nice and hot and I don't see anyone complaining about the food. Prices are fair and I'd say go there during lunch because the prices are around half of the dinner prices. Customer service is good.....well as good as soul food places go....Check it out and see.

After church

By april s |

So we went to this restaurant after church, I've had good things here but this occasion I couldn't say we received good service or food. The red beans and rice taste like baked beans, the mixed veg didn't have any favor. It took 40 minutes for us to get our food, it wasn't a good visit.

NOT SOUL FOOD!!!

By andre d |

I don't see how those folks push their garbage off as being soul food!!! The stuff their selling in horrible and a disgrace to what is considered true soul food, if you don't mind eating imitation be my guest but be FORE-WARNED!!!1

Loved it!!

By Kimjay82 |

Greatest collards ever!!!! Very tasteful! We're we very satisfied with our meal. The catfish was superb as well. Very great service will go back again!!!

Best of the Best

By Andrea S |

Met a friend for a late lunch. Tried oxtails with rice & gravy, collards & yams. Delicious!!! He had the smothered chicken red beans & rice, mac & cheese. When I tell you everything was on point including the service. Finally a place I can go and recommend to others. I now know why they were voted Best Soul Food in Las Vegas.

Overcharged my credit card

By Tara W |

Since my last review, I am disappointed to say that Ella Em's overcharged my credit card. I phoned in an order for 2 dinners and a kids meal and was charged $89.60 for it. I figure that was about double what it should have been. My husband picked it up and I didn't look at the receipt when he got back so, imagine my surprise when I saw the credit card bill. I made a few attempts to contact them with no response. I tried to dispute it with the credit card company but of course, the receipt had been thrown away with the trash from the meal. I loved that place but because of the overcharge and no desire to fix the issue, I won't be back!!!!

Gotta go!

By Mavischild |

Best place around - killer food, great service and very friendly. I could eat here daily! Excellent chicken and sides - everything is great!

Oxtails-um,um

By Judith D |

Tender, tasty! Just one of the things I like to order when I go to EllaEm's. Other favorite is the catfish, crispy and well-seasoned.

Amazing food! Friendly staff!

By Sarah M |

I’m from Jersey, can’t get this kinda soul food there! The staff was polite and friendly, including our waitress Jazz...the portions were enough for a few meals, and a large variety of sides! We all took doggie bags home!!

Real Soul Food

By MsGetThere |

Food and service were excellent. I had the whiting fish dinner and it was tasty from beginning to end. The potato salad was the best I have ever tasted (don't tell my mom). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would give this restaurant five stars except it was a little hard to find even while using GPS and at one point during our stay I could hear female staff members talking and laughing very loudly in the back which was disturbing. Other than that, the food is fantastic and I would definitely visit here again.

Great Food

By Marcel M |

We have dined there several times and always had great food and service. They have great soul food. We always go at lunch time and it is usually packed. It is not a big place. It is in the middle of a strip shopping center. It is definitely worth the wait.

No Apologies for Scantiness

By jamesmcfarland2015 |

After waiting for minutes of no acknowledgement upon entering the restaurant, we had to ask the waiter to clean the table so that we could sit. This was not a good start...the restaurant was not even very busy. The waiter left the chairs riddled with crumbs so we had to request additional cleaning services. I am a vegetarian so my options were limited to greasy fries, okra, and mushy mac and cheese. My husband and his sister ordered oxtails and fish. They had no complaints with their food only the poor service (incomplete orders/forgotten items).

Large portions, down home soul food restaurants

By MsMariette |

This is one of the best places to get real home down soul food! Large portions and the place is kept very clean and it is packed every evening so make sure when you get in there and they have food to go as well. Make sure you say hi to one of their top employees there, her name is jazlyn and she got promoted to be a manager there cuz she works so hard to keep everything together all the orders all the customers and make sure they're comfortable and taking care of in a timely manner!

Not to be missed!!

By Jason F |

I haven't had any "real" soul food since visiting my best friends family in Baltimore almost 15 years ago. I can tell you EllaEm's is some of the best soul food I've ever eaten. The greens were melt in your mouth delicious and the ox-tail was just as I remembered it in Baltimore. If you are in North Vegas and miss this place, you have failed yourself and your taste buds!! Kim was wonderful and inviting; giving me everything I needed (even a little bit of hot sauce in a cup) for what was an absolutely delicious dinner. I would HIGHLY recommend EllaEm's to anyone visiting North Vegas.

Taste the Soul

By Mike O |

What a surprise from this little inconspicuous restaurant located in a strip mall. The smothered pork chops were terrific. That can also be said for my mac&cheese and the out of this world cornbread.

Soul Food

By sharonwV6943XT |

This is the real deal in soul food. Went there the day after Thanksgiving and again on that Sat. Had the liver and onions with real brown gravy with greens, rice with gravy and yams on Fri and on Sat had the meat loaf with fried cabbage, rice and again yams. This a 'must go` if you are in Vegas. On the corner og Craig St and Revere next to Big Lots. You will not be disappointed.

Very glad to have found real soul food in North Vegas

By Tara W |

So happy to have found this place!!! We moved from Baltimore last year and thought for sure we were done with good soul food. Boy were we wrong. Everything we ate here was phenomenal. The best we have had for a very long time. I had the fried chicken, the breading was so light, crispy and flavorful ( they cook it to order so it's not sitting there getting soggy or hard). The greens were PERFECTLY tender and seasoned. As were the black-eyed peas. The mac and cheese was cheesy and baked just right, not saucy like a lot of places, this is real mac and cheese! The potato salad was also very good, though, my husband and I both got this and mine seemed to be a different batch than his, interesting but both were still good. My husband said it tasted just like his mom use to make. I would probably skip this myself next time and get the black-eyed peas. My husband got the fried catfish which was juicy and the breading was great. The only thing we were a little disappointed in was the peach cobbler, not sure if it was because they gave it to us to go, so it was cold. We brought it home and heated it up but still, it was a little lacking (a little soggy). We will try it again. The place has limited seating, we were lucky to get a seat with COVID's reduced seating. It looked like a lot of people called in their orders for pickup, great idea since it takes a while for them to cook your meats fresh. It is well worth the wait!!! We will definitely be back!!

Best soul place I've tasted.

By miss_sprowls |

This place was awesome. The fried chicken was just right with huge portions. I loved the food. The gravy and fried pork chops were good.

Best soul food this side of South Carolina

By gingernr1 |

We kind of stumbled onto this amazing little place in a North Las Vegas strip mall...so glad we did! The food was excellent and simply prepared. Kaneesha, our waitress, was great. I ordered the smothered chicken, yams, mashed potatoes and chicken gravy with a side of cornbread! So good as was my husband's. The only problem was there was a lot of food...and we ate it all!! So much for New Year resolutions. I hope Emmaem's is around for a long time. It"s evident they really care about the food they serve. Love it! We'll stop again next time we're in Vegas.

Best soul food

By Cassie |

Everytime my family makes a trip to Vegas we fine at EllEms. We have tasted everything on her menue. There has never been a disappointment. Wait staff, cooks and customers have all been friendly and welcoming. My favorite is the smothered pork chops and catfish. Keep eating those corn bread muffins and you won't need dessert. Perfect comfort food.

Best Soul Food In Vegas!

My husband and I were looking for a nice little soul food spot in Vegas, we found this nice little spot and it is amazing!!!!! And their corn bread is out of this world AMAZING! Definitely coming back!

Soul and great food!

By Nancy W |

Great soul and dinner! Four of us ladies had a girl's trip to Vegas. We read that EllaEms had great soul good and visited. It was delish. We ordered pork chips; fried chicken and all the sides. Friendly staff even with a large pro bowl party being served.

Authentic soul food made with love.

By FrankinMT |

Great food big portions. Everything we tried was delicious. We really enjoyed the fried chicken. The potato salad was the best I've had in a restaurant.

Great food close to home!

By Parris F |

Several people that I work with rave about EllaEm's. Finally had a chance to visit and so glad we did. Visited for dinner on a Wednesday late afternoon. Restaurant was not busy, but very steady with take out customers. Seated immediately and was provided with excellent customer service through out the meal! Wife and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and the Fried Chicken. Sides included mashed potato, greens, okra, fried cabbage and stuffing. Cornbread is also provided. Very nice portions, which we did finish. Sadly, we didn't leave room for dessert. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Didn't have to touch the salt or pepper. Fried chicken was very tender and moist, with the perfect amount of breading. I could cut the chicken fried steak with just a fork. Very nice value! We would recommend and look forward to returning to try other menu items.

If we want wonderful soul food, this is our go to place. Food is always good, fresh, fast & hot. Staff is always friendly & attentive.

Great soul food that's not in the south

By Scottie M |

I'm very picky when it comes to soul food, and when my friends told me there was good place I had to see for myself. And wow I was blown away. Now nothing comes close to moms cooking but the restaurant could the a good third (right behind my own😜). To be honest it was delicious and bring that Sunday feel with my folks from South Carolina. The portion size was great and the price was extremely reasonable. On my list is to stop by here again when I'm back in Vegas.

Better go hungry!

By awest84532 |

A small place in a strip mall, easy to over look. Large servings of down home soul food. I tried the ox-tails with mashed potatoes, collard greens, fried cabbage and corn bread. All of which were excellent. Very friendly staff. I am now approaching a food coma and have enough left-overs for a second one.

Excellent Food

By Jill A |

Soul food was great. Good size portions and the taste was home home cooking. I like when you eat and say hmmm after every bite.....

Best soul food in Las Vegas

By DeeCo |

We tried several items from the menu and everything was great. We ordered shrimp fish, chicken, waffles cornbread, black eyed peas, candied yams and macaroni and cheese. They did not disappoint. I will be returning the next time I'm in Las Vegas

Best Vegas Soul Food

By Daniel D |

The food here was amazing!! Let me tell you, the fried Red Snapper was delicious and I had the fried cabbage, Mac n cheese and collard greens and I finished them all up. There homemade lemonade was great also. All and All, this is a great spot to eat.

Will work for the area

By Mu F |

If you come from an area with soul food restaurants, this place won't impress you at all with the food. Service was great. If you've never had soul food or can't find it easy, this place works GREAT for you. Has all the staples of soul food cooking. Nice variety too. Fish, chicken, oxtails, etc

Good Eating for the Soul (and body)!

By P965OFjohn |

During a visit with my son, he wanted to take me to his favorite restaurant for a late lunch. EllaEm's came as advertised: DELICIOUS! Its apparent when you enter that the namesake of the restaurant was beloved and that her attention to taste, service, and cleanliness transcended her life. The staff was professional, kind, and on top of things. The food was as advertised and in LARGE portions! Haven't had pan fried chicken that tasty since the last time was in Mississippi. And the sweet tea was REAL sweet tea! Thank you guys for a memorable experience.

Once was enough

By Barbara J |

Last minute meal that didn't impress. The fried snapper was cooked well but not seasoned, the yams tasted like pure sugar, and the fried cabbage has a horrible after taste. The cost was over $17 plate which was unexpected. Website said $11.99.

Great Soulfood

By Ms. Y |

Great service, good food had the fried catfish, delicious and big portions. Will definitely return again.

Sad it's in Las Vegas and not in San Diego.

By Sarah H |

After a full night of hardcore Vegas-style partying, I was in dire need of a fried chicken fix. We found EllaEm's Soul Food, and, BINGO! Exactly what I needed. The cafe style restaurant was very clean. I saw a few framed reviews on the walls raving about this place saying, it had "The Best soul food in Vegas of 2010." I ordered the smothered chicken with collard greens, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. We got it to-go and I couldn't wait to dig in. Whoa. Talk about a total food orgasm. Now, to all my fellow Yelpers, I will say no more about this place; only because I was extremely impressed beyond words. Therefore I insist that when you visit Las Vegas, this place is a must! I can't really begin to describe how great the food was. It sucks that I live here in San Diego...especially now since I will be craving those collard greens from Las Vegas. Geez.

KEEP ON DRIVING THE FOOD SUCKS!

By debi d |

i ordered PORK CHOPS ,fried soft mac n cheese , greens OMG the pork chops were so HARD you could not CHEW THEM , we gave them to our dogs and they wouldn't eat them! mac n cheese dry and flavorless the fish was broken into small pieces and over cooked ! the yams mushy!!! there was nothing good about our food THE STAFF THE GIRLS IN THEIR talking TO EACH OTHER AND IGNORE PAYING CUSTOMERS THERE WERE 3 PEOPLE in the restaurant however it took over 1 HOUR FOR US TO RECEIVE OUR TO GO ORDER...WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING

Best Soul Food Around

By waterdance |

They have giant portions as well as a discounted lunch special. I've tried both the oxtail and the meatloaf here. I love them. I love the oxtail more. Be sure to show up earlier than 15 min before closing or they won't serve you. For those people in Las Vegas, this is way better than the other big soul food place M&M.

Soul Food

By Richard R |

I was in the mood for sould food and lucky for me it was close by. I wanted Ox-tails and they did not disappoint. The oxtails were smoothered in gravy. They have plenty of side dishes that were vary good. The service was very friendly. I will revisit.

Fast, fresh, affordable

By KSSeaB |

I've been having lunch at Ella Em's for years. For $10 I get grilled catfish with a hot delicious cornbread muffin and two sides. This week I had collard greens and fried okra; but mac 'n' cheese is good and the sweet potatoes are fabulous. They also have black-eyed peas and mashed potatoes. My husband is partial to the meatloaf with gravy. I have friends who like the chicken & wings. The sweet tea is made with molasses; therefore, there is no graininess to it. Service varies from good to excellent; the food is consistently very good. And you can't beat a full lunch for $10.

Alabama in the house!

By Marie P |

My husband’s family met us in Las Vegas last weekend and we took them to EllaEm’s. They raved about the food and the atmosphere. We had a party of 11 and got our food hot and in good time.

Amazing food and nice people

By A6368YRrobertb |

If you are looking to get an authentic meal of soul food, this is the place to go. I had the pork chops. I hear the meat loaf is amazing.

Love this restaurant!

By Sonya E |

Visiting with friends who recommended EllaEm's and they did not disappoint. The ox tails were very tender. The catfish was well seasoned as were the black-eyed peas, mac & cheese, cabbage and cornbread muffins. When I come back to Las Vages, it is a MUST that I come back. Thank you Niecey for your friendly service!!

This place!!!

By lojaja |

We were in town for a wedding. Before coming to Vegas from VA., I read the reviews, and we decided to give this place a try; great decision. There were 11 in our party, and we ordered 2 oxtails, 1 rib, 3 catfish,3 fried chickens ,1 shrimp, and 1 pork chop, all dinners. Everyone in our party LOVED their food! The portions were good, the sides were yummy. Most took leftovers back to the hotel. The entire staff was excellent...service on point!

Love this place overall

By Deborah E |

We have been 3 times and even brought our moms. The food is always delicious and filling and at good prices. The only complaint I would have is that there is not much meat on the ribs but everything else has been great!

Bad food

By terric1968 |

I have been several times but today 05/8/19 when they 1st opened and grabbed some oxtails they do not let you see your food and this time get home and every 1 of the 4 oxtails was full of fat. After taking all the fat off i barely had meat not for $23 so that means i will never give them my business anymore. They cabbage taste like they were old and mac & cheese taste like yuk!! All i have to do is lose taste of food and will never go and will not recommend anybody to go there. Sorry but not sorry because a plate of food for $23 should be pleasing especially when you first open up...

EllaEm's (North Las vegas Restaurants Soul Food Restaurant)

By Friday30 |

Often when in Las Vegas, would here radio commercials recommending "EllaEms. Visted restaurant 01/06/16. Upon entry we were promptly welcomed and seated by "Q". Waitress Anisha was very friendly and polite. Very impressed she took four orders without writing on pad. Yes, we all received correct order. There is a lunch special Tues-Friday -11:00am/3:00pm. We missed that however, food we did order was very appealing and delicious. Location is 775 W. Craig Rd, North Las Vegas, easily reached via 95N. Also there is plenty of parking. Worth a try, if you desire to cool out from the strip area.

The food was not good

By Debi C |

The food was not good the fried pork chops were so hard you could not chew or bite them, Mac n cheese very bland the fish had no flavor

By COHKAH |

We were celebrating a huge birthday family weekend for our Aunt who is from Anderson,South Carolina. We were a party of 10 ages 21-80 yrs old. We needed to find a dinner spot before our surprise for Auntie- (A show- Motown Extreme at the OYO Hotel.) Auntie said she wanted some soul food so hubby and myself both started our search with trip advisor. After reading about the Oxtails -Unanimously we agreed on EllaEm’s Soul Food. My husband and I read all the reviews and he said his mouth was watering. Lol - he is a “foodie”. He reserved a table for 10 at 4 pm so we would have time for dinner and enough time to travel back to the strip, This place was less than 20 min off the Vegas Strip but worth the Uber trip. This place holds about 50 people and is casual dining. Food- The oxtails were tender falling off the bone and delicious. The fried chicken was made to order served hot and crispy. The ribs were delicious too. Sides were great too fried cabbage; Mac n cheese rice and beans. Lemonade and Sweet Tea was the “bomb” 😎All of our dishes were delightful- we sampled each other’s plates. All we heard was mmmmmm at everyone’s bite. Lol. Our server’s name was JAZZ😎❤️ Beautiful friendly lady with a awesome blessed spirit. She made it special. Thank you Jazz from the bottom of our hearts for making our Aunties bday dinner special. This was a awesome dinner.

DELICIOUS!!!

By SP554 |

The food at this soulful restaurant is the best! Every time I travel to Las Vegas I make it a habit to dine at Ella Ems. I’ve tried several items on the menu and none of them have ever been under satisfying! I must say, the food at this restaurant is delightfully delicious! You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. The service you received is impeccable! This is a small restaurant and it out does any large establishment that I have ever dined at. The portions of the food are overwhelming and worth the price. I LOVE ELLA EMS!!

Vacation meal

By HM P |

This place is fantastic. The service is spectacular and the food is awesome. Reasonable prices and clean establishment. I recommend this restaurant when visiting Las Vegas! About 8 miles off the Strip, but we'll worth it!!!

I Know Why EllaEm’s is The Best Soul Food of Las Vegas!!

By The Future Boss of T&R |

The Best Food!! The Best Customer Service!! We were greeted with a smile… which is RARE these days!! Jazz was on duty… and Jazz held EllaEm’s down by herself… multitasking and making sure you had everything you needed before you asked!! Every time I come back to Vegas, I’ll be making a stop in EllaEm’s!! Matter fact we stopped in 2 days in a row!!

Awesome Soul Food

By Amber Jean R |

A group of us went her on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone left satisfied. My husband had the fried chicken and I had the fried fish. Both very tasty. The portions are huge and they have a variety of sides you can choose from. My favorite was the collard greens. The yams were a little too sweet for me. I really like the corn bread they give to the table on arrival. They were fresh from the oven. I would highly recommend.

I'm so lucky I'm only 10 minutes away from this restaurant

I love their oxtail. I always order oxtail at least twice a month. It comes with 3 sides and a corn bread. The mash potato and gravy is delicious! Never disappoint every time I order. I'm hooked with their oxtail that I didn't even bother to order the other menus. Good Eating!!!

Must try Soul Food

If you like Soul Food I would definitely recommend this place. It's a small restaurant but the food is delicious!! The staff was nice and I would definitely go again.

Mouth watering

Went there a couple of years back. Everything we ordered was delicious. From Cali., and swore if I ever got back this would be my first stop. Well I'm back .........favorites, oxtails and greens.

Avoid

As someone who grew up in the south maybe I'm picky about my soul food, but this place just didn't do it for me. The greens were way too salty and the breading on the okra was very bland. The yams were disappointing; it was like they were cooked and then put in cinnamon water. The peach cobbler was terrible; I don't know what you used for the "crust" but this ain't it. The fried chicken and gravy were the only decent things about the meal and I'm being generous by saying "decent."

Southern Food Standards

Ella Em's is a popular neighborhood restaurant with southern food such as oxtail, chitterlings, pork chops (served several ways), fried chicken, fried cabbage, macaroni and cheese, yams, BBQ, sweet potato pie and peach cobbler. Service is friendly but slow. However, the prices are fair and the portions are good. You can call ahead to place an order for pick up as well. I would return again.
