Great choice

By Josh S |

Came here with my daughter for lunch during her first visit to Chinatown. All of the food tasted great. Would definitely come here again!

Excellent Birthday Dinner

By Chi-Fla |

My children brought me here for my birthday. I just cannot say enough good things about the food. I ordered wonton soup; large pork filled wontons filled the bowl with a pleasant delicate chicken broth. Then came the egg rolls; hot, fresh. large, filled with meat and veggies. Next we had the Three Mushroom Garlic Baby Bok Choy, the Beef and Green Onions, and the General Tsao. All dishes were hot and well seasoned. The beef was melt in your mouth tender. The chicken was lightly breaded. The steamed rice was perfect, no sticking or clumping. Our drinks never stayed empty for long. Even the almond cookies served with the fortune cookies at the end of the meal were very tasty. An excellent meal from start to finish.

Good choice

Very good food with attentive and fast service. We were surprised by their classic dishes, their spring rolls, wonton soup and their cookies with tea.

Try the Won Ton Soup

By YseniaGallegos |

Came here for dinner with the fam. The place is very clean and the staff was very attentive. My sister order egg rolls to start. They said they tasted fresh, not oily. My mom loved them. I have to order a small bowl of won ton soup each restaurant I go to. The broth was flavorful and the whole thing was delicious. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, but spicy. That was really good and the sauce was just right. Not too think or jellyish. Kung pao shrimp was spicy and good. Has nuts in it which made it even better. The only dish I wasn't crazy about was the beef and broccoli. The beef tasted slightly over cooked. The prices are a little high (13.95) for a dish that isn't that big. We had 3 main orders and it fed 4 adults. Including the 1 appetizer and 3 drinks, the bill came out around $73. I'd say it's definitely worth trting.

Tasty and super fast service

By Ruz |

Hey if you are around China town this is a MUST to go, always is full and need to wait between 20 or 30 minutes but is worthy, the quality is good, temperature of the plates perfect and real Chinese flavor. And is not expensive.

Good food, good price, delivered fast and it was correct.

By CAKS8462 |

While in a Chicago hotel, I wanted to get some Chinese delivery. After reading many reviews of several place, I decided on Emperor's. The ordering process was fairly easy. The person taking my order seemed to understand English more that he could speak it, so I did have him repeat things if I wasn't sure of what he said. Delivery never seems to work out for me. Most places mess something up and then I am left with food I didn't order, or things missing. This was not the case with Emperor. Everything was correct and hot, except the beverages, which they remembered as well. I had the sesame chicken, crab rangoon and fried rice. The price, even with delivery, was reasonable. I thought the sesame chicken was a little dry, but otherwise, things were really good. As a matter of fact, the fried rice was some of the best I have ever had. If the Sesame chicken came with more sauce, I would have given them a 5 stars, and 4.5 is not an option. I would order again and specify to send the chicken with extra sauce or additional sauce on the side.

A step above

By Bryan S |

A nice spot in Chicago's Chinatown. The dining space appears to have been recently remodeled which is a nice touch compared to some of the dingier places nearby. The service was prompt and friendly. The food is not outstanding or to be raved about, but is really quite good for a reasonable price. The crab rangoon had actually crab in it. The spicy green beans were quite tasty -- lightly fried in just a small amount of batter. We had three standards -- kung pao chicken, hunan beef, beef and singapore noodles -- and all hit the spot. There are certainly more adventurous places to try, but for a nice, standard Chinese meal don't hesitate to stop by Emperor's Choice.

If you like excellent food and service look no further

By Dave G |

Been to Chicago many times. However, it was our first time to Chinatown. Walked up and saw this place on the main walk. Went in and fell in love. The food was tops. And I've been to our Chinatowns in LA, San Fran and NYC. This place is one of them you just can't pass up. Simple clean decor with positively Chinese appointments. Felt like I was in Hong Kong. We've found our home away from home.

Good restaurant in heart of Chinatown

By BancyN |

We came to Chinatown and walked down Wentworth to find a place for lunch. Stopped into Emperor's Choice for the first time. Had a Chinese seafood lunch special with egg drop soup and egg roll. All were fairly good. Would have liked to have had a few more choices with seafood and vegetables but settled on shrimp and scallops with walnuts. It was good, especially the fried rice, although the scallops could have been a little fresher (usually can tell by the smell). Would try it again.

Would have been 5 but our server sucked

By q1964 |

We were promptly greeted and seated, then nothing. Other tables were getting tea right away. Not us. Finally our server came by and asked what we wanted. (Just like that) We ordered food and expected her to ask about drinks but she just went away. She sat at a table nearby and played on her phone. I finally got her attention and asked if we could order drinks. “What you want?” We all wanted hot sake. “I bring one, you share”. (We had not been elsewhere) OK. That was gone quickly so I asked for another. She said ok but forgot to bring it. I watched other tables (with different servers) getting extra rice and tea and asked about drinks. Not us. No tea for us because we had “cell phone lady”. The food was tasty and hot. I’d go there again, just avoid that server. It seemed everyone else did. The locals acted like they had close personal relationships with other servers. Maybe “cell phone lady” just gets the “one time tourists”? It’s too bad that the attitude and incompetence of one server can shed a negative light on the whole place!

Single experience and it was excellent!

By Misconnected |

Six of us arrived to the busy restaurant without reservations on a Saturday night and we were seated quickly. Service started slow, but then accelerated. Food was delicious and attractive. I will return again soon.

Always Good

By eneas2013 |

Emperors Choice has always been an "old school" anchor restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown. (Please see my Chicago Chinatown review) Simply stated: Fish and lobster dishes at Emperor's Choice are the best. Fresh ingredients, freshly prepared and served steaming hot, with a sense of style. The whole-fish filleted at the table is outstanding, in taste and presentation. Reminds one of the great dining emporiums, before food became trendy and when strict rules applied to server's demeanor, skills and professionalism. All the food here is good or better, some is outstanding. The ambiance is the past and not modern. The decor lends well to the whole dining experience. Chicken dishes are also a speciality. Try anything that suits your taste and be pleasantly surprised. Make sure to take a stroll down Wentworth Avenue, after dining. "Chinatown" is both safe and lined with boutique shopping suitable to any price point: low-to-high. Buy a postcard/stamp, jot a note and surprise someone. This is the way things were done in the past. And Chinatown is a phenomenal hold-out to past times, yet, it is the ONLY growing (by population) "Chinatown" left in the USA. Fact check it, if you may doubt my statement. Let me know with a LIKE or comment what you experienced in one of my favorite USA restaurant districts.

Great seafood, varied menu

By Henry F |

An old Chinatown favorite in Chicago - the seafood is particularly good. The soft shell crabs are among the best in Chinatown, the Sichuan Peppercorn Seafood is spicy but not overwhelmingly so (this is not a true Sichuan kitchen, but more a Beijing-style restaurant). Service is excellent, ingredients are always fresh, and the variety of the menu is big even by Chinese restaurant standards.

Sad choice

By SFBzoo |

Slow service and food lacked flavor. Never received the soup that was to come with the meal. The rice was food, but the chicken for the General seemed microwaved. The beef for the spicy orange was very bland.

Tardy to the party

By REIKE P |

Great lil restaurant for Chinese food, egg rolls were cold but the rest was hot as should be. We arrived at 930 and was told hurry hurry we close at 10pm. WOW anyhow we enjoyed

Yummy Moo Shu Pork!

By NWUSA-Ellie |

Also had excellent green beans, very good pan fried wide noodles with lobster, and just OK fried rice...

Not my favorite

By M Richard M |

Rainy night place empty. Took 6 minutes for server to come to table. Wanted us to order immediately. Ordered tea, that was highlight of meal. Won ton soup Luke warm dumplings had old taste shrimp were partially spoiled. Orange beef 90% breading little meat. Same sauce as sweet and sour sauce no orange. Portions very small, not like in pictures. Salt and pepper seafood all breading little sea food. Tiny bowl of rice not really hot. At 8:15 large party of Asians came in, they were immediately served and their portions huge compared to ours. Food had average flavor. Find another place

Great food, authentic experience

By Hannah R |

The service was prompt and food excellent. We were eating quite early in the evening and over the course of our meal watched as the restaurant filled to capacity. The menu was varied and also had a large selection of vegetarian meals available. Great choice!

Delicious !

By Xol1ndz22 |

Amazing dinner! The sweet and sour chicken and the egg rolls were delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive. Meal ended with a fortune cookie each and almond cookies. Would defiantly go again :)

Old School Chinesse in Chinatown

By ZvonimirSiljkovic |

Its been a decade since Iast visited this establishment. And after a decades absence, the food was as good as I remember it from 10 years. They offer the usual choice of fare with a fair amount of authentic Chinese specialties. Its location is right in the middle of Chinatown and so also offers a great little walk through Chinatown as ones appetite builds up for the big show.

Best Chinese

By ektrusela |

My husband and I recently ate here during our business trip. It is right in chinatown and easy to get to via cab or the subway. We ordered way too much for 2, but it was well worth it. We ended up taking it back to our hotel (since we had a kitchen) and had dinner the next night as well! We got the razor clam which was something I have never seen before, and it was so delicious! something everyone should try! we also had the standard mushu pork, fried rice, broccoli, etc. Everything was delicious. Staff is very nice and kind. Will come here again on our next business trip!

Mainstay in Chicago

By Bruce S |

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Chicago. Consistently tasty! You can’t go wrong for great Chinese in Chicago.

Bad Experience

By BillyD13 |

March 19, 2021...we have ordered from Emperors choice many times in the past with overall good results. Last night when we opened our order at home, my wife found a Tylenol capsule in her food. Needless to say, she did not eat at all. I have attempted to contact the restaurant to request a full refund, but there is no way to reach a manager as their mailbox is full. At the very least, we should be able to contact them via phone. Not going back unless this is taken care of.

Chinatown Find

By hungry_eye |

Nice little storefront in Chinatown that has a huge menu and a good staff of servers, food is fresh, lots of regulars dining, and speedy kitchen. Stopped in for some of their huge portions and had a blast.

Great stop if you are in Chinatown.

By prs52d |

Emperor's Choice is a very good value. The restaurant is small with a rather extensive menu and excellent food. We had egg rolls and crab rangoon as appetizers. Both were very good. The won ton soup is very good. Our main entrees were shrimp with walnuts, fried noodle combo (beef, chicken, shrimp), chicken chop suey, and sesame chicken. All dishes were generous portions and quite delicious. All four of us took food home. There are a couple of bakeries on either side of the restaurant if you want to take home something different and special.

Seems like an average Chinese restaurant

By Jayboy4 |

Happened to be in Chinatown, so what better type of restaurant to try? Once inside, it looks same as every other chinese restaurant I've seen in the midwest; store-front size with maybe a dozen tables of various sizes. Service was fast and accomodating (again, fairly typical of the genre) but the food was so-so to not so good. Beef with black pepper sauce was fairly nasty; the flank steak was terrible. Family said the chicken dishes were ok.

Will go again

By Timothy G |

My friend and I have been trying different Chinatown restaurants to enjoy a long leisurely lunch and have conversation. This being our third outing, I think we've found a winner. The dining room is brighter, a little more spacious, and a little bit upscale from the others we tried. No one rushed us, the service was attentive without being pushy, the food was good though not great. One oddity was they brought out one entree without the other, and a full five minutes later we inquired and got 'its coming', which it did. Could have been awkward if we weren't two old friends. But definitely the best leisure lunch experience we've had.

Excellent Choice

By watsonc49201 |

We were in town for a graduation at Great Lakes and took a trip here on a Sunday afternoon. There are many choices in Chinatown but this one looked pretty good. Our party of 4 each ordered different dishes and we were not disappointed. Service was very good and food and prices were on par. The restaurant is small but well appointed with cloth table coverings. Food portions were very generous Entrees were @ $12 ...a bargain at Chicago restaurant prices.

Clean and affordable Chinese in the heart of Chinatown!

By Alecia C |

Easy access off the L in the heart of Chinatown. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was reasonably priced and good considering we don't live in an area with good Chinese food and rarely are able to eat. We highly recommend the Sesame Chicken, spring and egg rolls hot and sour soup. This restaurant was very clean!

Good chinese food

By Yongki |

We did not eat there, only bought fried rice for our supper at the hotel. The fried rice was delicious and tasted more refined than similar fried rice bought at other places. While waiting we noticed that the restaurant ambience was nice. The staff was all courteous.

Great Chinese Meal

By SadieMae65 |

Emperor's Choice was recommended to us by a local and they were on target. This is a nice little restaurant in Chinatown and the food is excellent. We especially loved the "special" oysters on the half shell with garlic and beans. We live on the east coast, but these were the best oysters ever! The service was very good too.

Great food in Chinatown!

By Jill R R |

When going to Chinatown, we always go to Emperor's Choice. The food is delicious and service most accommodating. The menu is varied and on our many visits, most delicious. Moo Shoo Pork is a standout as are the steamed dumplings.

Delicious Choice

By postal49740 |

Emperors Choice was a great choice for their great value lunch specials. Beef Kung Pao and Broccoli and beef were fantastic. Service was quick and good. Clean establishment

Consistently Good Cantonese Food

By Gatorgolfer |

My wife and I have been here several times, and it has been very good to excellent every time. Yesterday we wanted to try Go 4 Food, but it was closed on Tuesdays, so we returned to Emperor's Choice. Decor is better than average for Chinatown. I had a very good sweet and sour soup, my wife had an eggroll which was much better than average and obviously home made. I had the steamed oysters with black bean sauce, and my wife had the shredded chicken. My oysters were 10 out of 10. The chicken had a wonderful rich, savory flavor. In the past we have tried the Spicy Crab and Clams with Black Bean Sauce, and both were excellent. Worth a drive!

the Emperor has great taste

By jfbr28401 |

We took the train to Chinatown and chose this restaurant because it had a line. Many seafood options including razor clams. I was surprised that entrées did not have veggie's. Service was great.

Good Food but lousy customer service

By 231Liz |

I like their food even though it is a bit overpriced. But why I am unhappy with them is the owner's response to a complaint. Yesterday, I got the wrong order. The owner will not exchange the food nor will he give me a credit. He says it was MY fault. I get the wrong food and it is MY fault?!? Really?!? "You should have checked the bag before you left." Needless to say, I am currently disputing the charge with my credit card company.

Great Chinese

By Tom F |

We decided to stop in Chinatown for a late lunch and discovered Emperor's Choice. Food was excellent. Restaurant was extremely clean. Service was excellent, friendly staff who were fluent in English which made everything perfect.

Lunch for Five

By anands |

This restaurant was clean and the service very prompt and friendly. The food (Pepper and Salt Chicken, Baby Back Ribs and Chicken with Broccolli) was excellent.

Reliable Chinese fare

By PamR |

We used to visit here a lot, but I heard it wasn't as good as it used to be. We tried it yesterday and were happy to learn it was still good. We had delicious sweet sour soup. I had Shanghai noodles (with a variety of ingredients, including large tasty mushrooms) and my friend had a beef dish with peanuts, green peppers and hot peppers, along with rice. We shared both, and they were both good. Tea was delicious jasmine made with real tea leaves. Fortune cookies and almond cookies are served complimentary after the meal. Reasonable prices for a tasty meal. The atmosphere is quiet and nice, with framed Chinese ceremonial garments and artwork. Will definitely return soon.

Dinner after Cubs game

By Samantha M |

Went out to Chinatown after the Cubs game and came across Emporer's Choice. Very friendly staff, we were seated right away. Food was very good- although the egg rolls were not quite to my taste, my parents loved them. I ordered egg drop soup to go (for lunch the next day) and it was amazing even reheated! Will return soon!

Awesome egg roll

By Ed Hands |

The egg roll were on point. Tradition chicago egg roll with peanut butter. Everything else was great too (beef and snow pea and chick with almonds and cashews) but will come back for the egg roll!!!

Gloppy Sauces

By Back-in-Bklyn |

Although the service was very pleasant, the food was quite average. The dishes were smothered in heavy sauces. Reasonably priced, but not the kind of food one would hope for in a Chinese neighborhood.

Visiting Chinatown

By Patricia34 |

This restaurant has a good service, the food is also good and the portions are really big. I decided to had lunch here, while I was visiting Chicago's Chinatown. It was a good experience.

Excellent food and service

By Mike H |

I went here based on another Trip Advisor review praising the salt & pepper shrimp. This plate is difficult to find in the Phoenix area so I made sure to stop by Emperor's Choice. I went for lunch on a weekday and pretty much had the place to myself. The server was very friendly and the proportions were generous and very good. The server told me if I need more rice just let her know. The prices do seem to be a few dollars more than the other restaurants but well worth it.

Excellent authentic Chinese food

By Brian G |

The food was very good and the service was fine, but I did notice that the large tables of Chinese native speakers did tend to get preferential treatment and service over the rest of us. None the less the food was good and it was worth the time.

Great Sweet & Sour Soup

By COBChicago |

Stopped into this establishment for an early lunch. We were the only dine-in customers, but the carry-out seemed busy. The Service was good and the food very hot. The pot sticker-appetizer was a highlight. Our choices of entrees (from the lunch menu) were ample and good; but not great.

GREAT restaurant

By eec317 |

Loved the lunch special - very reasonably priced for a soup, egg roll, meat entree, and rice. Also got a drink and the total was $12 (also came with 2 cookies at the end). Food was all very good. The staff were very friendly and the service was fast.

Best Chinese in China Town (yes I am serious)

By Ross M |

Emperor’s Choice has the best food in China Town. I love Chinese Food and have lived within a 10 minute carry-out time from China Town for 9 years, so I have pretty much tried them all. My favorite dishes include true Classics-of-the-East like Spicy Salt and Pepper Crab, and Crispy Peeking Duck. However, I also have a love-affair with Westernized treats like Egg Rolls, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Pork Fried Rice. Emperor’s Choice has a large menu and I have never had anything I didn’t devour. I always start with fresh made Egg Rolls and Pot Stickers. The Egg Rolls are screaming hot and crispy with good-size shrimp mixed with pork, sprouts and veggies. The Pot Stickers are very unique and very addictive, their thick chewy/burnt skin (similar to a Pierogi) is a perfect wrapping for the pork-meatball inside. The Mo Shoo is packed with veggies and beef, served tableside with plum sauce and delicious pancakes. The Peeking Duck is divine, but you need to order it 24 hours in advance. My wife’s favorite is Kung Pao Chicken. (Emperor’s Choice is the one she craves when she is pregnant.) The Salt and Pepper Crab is my favorite Seafood dish in all of Chicago. An entire Dungeness crab is Tempura Fried in the shell with spicy red and green peppers. It’s spicy, crispy, messy and amazing (don’t forget to scoop out the deep-fried back-fat from the shell)! The atmosphere of the restaurant is tasteful (if not sparse). Chinese robes and paintings hang on the green walls. The fish tank in the front is a favorite of my 2 year old. The meal ends with Fortune Cookies and Almond Cookies, hooray! If you are still hungry, be sure to head next door, to the Chinese bakery, the sweet sesame balls area really nice and the pork cookies are worth trying as well.

Made us feel like Emperors

By Dean D |

One of the most delicious, enjoyable meals I’ve had in a long time. Food was outstanding! Especially liked the Soft Shell salt n pepper crab. Super-generous portions. Friendly efficient service. Authentic vibe in the place with tourists, Chicago locals and Chinese community members sharing the spot. Perfect location along the main drag. Could not have been more pleased with every attention to the customer satisfaction!

Wonderful place

By T P |

We stopped here on a whim. The service was wonderful, the waitress was very attentive. The food was very good and plentiful. Prices are very comparable compared to the amount of food. table services was quick and friendly and allowed us to move on with our day.

The Wonderful Chinese restaurant

By Liam A |

They have an amazing staff. The helped us take pics and, really cared about the customers. It is an excellent restaurant. Recommend if you have a family that is in need for great Chinese food!

I Expected More

By Travel Moniker |

We made a classic mistake of being hungry. We stopped at the first restaurant with seating. There are seemingly better restaurants on the strip and we probably would have done better. The appetizers were fine: hot and sour soup and crab rangoon. Both were hot and very tasty. The main courses were blah. The Hunan Chicken was oddly sweet and vinegary. It did not have that Hunan flavor traditional to the dish not being at all spicy despite the one chili on the menu. The Teriyaki chicken was also oddly sweet, but certainly more flavorful. Service was OK. It took three requests to get my drink. The fortune cookies and cookies provided with the bill were a nice touch. You probably find better if you are patient.

Great food

By dsign95 |

Ate here with my family of 4. My wife and I tried some new things. Empress's beef, cantonese chicken. Our girls played it safe with sweet and sour chicken. Everything was great. You can definitely split one entre between two people. Crab rangoon was best ive had. will be hard to go back to American Chinese food at home.

1st class Chinese

By Joanne W |

Hubby and I were looking for a good dinner place for our first time in Chinatown and after cross-referencing reviews, landed here. We were not disappointed! We got there at 6 and were just ahead of the dinner rush on a Monday evening. The menu was a little pricier than I was expecting at about $11-13 for the main courses but when we got our food we understood. The portions were extremely generous! We weren't brave enough to stray from the classics so we got General Tso's and Sesame Chicken. Both were excellent, more chicken than breading and plenty of sauce. We could have easily split either type between the two of us so we had plenty to take home. Also had an order of crab rangoons and 2 egg rolls. The rangoons were excellent, the egg rolls left something to be desired but the sweet & sour sauce was the best! There was an even mix of Asian and non-Asian patrons and the Asians were enjoying some much more adventurous, traditional looking dishes so I think there is something for everyone. Service was friendly and efficient. All around, top notch!

Absolutely delicious

By Urrooj H |

We really enjoyed the beef and Kung pao chicken. Reminded me of our trip to China. The egg drop soup was very good and the crab Rangoons very crunchy.

Consistent

By eneas2013 |

The food here is of consistent quality over the years. I especially like any dish with whole fish or seafood. They do not advertise it in English but they specialize in fish. The service is good, hygiene relatively high, and the atmosphere semi-welcoming. Also, try any of the soups here. They are better than average. This is my go-to restaurant, if I need a business dinner restaurant in Chinatown for out-of-town guests. Lobster is delicious and reliable. Share everything, it is meant to be served that way.

A cozy restaurant with good food and friendly service!

By Tsangs53 |

My wife and I had dinner in this restaurant! We were well served with friendly smiles from everyone that passed by our table! The food portion was fresh and hot, generous and tasty! While this is not one of those big restaurants in China town we totally enjoyed our dining experience there!

Emperor's Good Choice

By mrtjl |

Centrally located in Chinatown, this restaurant is a great value! The egg rolls were fresh and crispy- dumplings so soft- and generous dinner portions could have easily been shared as it was a platter of food for one. Clean and attentive service were appreciated. Even almond and fortune cookies at the finish.

Excellent food

By Hoopyhelga |

We love this restaurant and try to come here once a year or so. The interior is starting to show its age, they need to put some money into freshening it up. However, the food is excellent, fresh and reasonably priced. The server helped me select the perfect dish.

Awesome Chinese food

By Yang S |

Hang out with friends in Chinatown and had lunch here. The stir fried lobster on top of noodle is so good. I don't remember the official name on the menu. Just ask for it. The other thing I love is fish fillet withTofu, and stir fried mix veggie. They have a large variety of food on the menu. Nice waitress too.

Amazingly fast delivery, but food was "Meh" and pretty pricey

By Geoff S |

We were hunkered down in our hotel room at the McCormick Hyatt, sick to death of the one bar/restaurant in the hotel and yet not wanting to brave the 7 degree arctic winds outside nor the fun of navigating and parking in downtown Chicago. The concierge recommended Emporer's Choice. We found them on Yelp, and it sounded like people liked them okay. We looked up their menu on line, called and ordered Shrimp Toast, Mongolian Beef, Yang Chow fried rice, and veggie Stir Fry. They told us it would be 45 minutes, and a mere 7 minutes later we got the call that they were down in the lobby! The tab was pretty hefty ($60 w tip), but we were hungry and thankful for not having to go out. And the food was...okay. The Mongolian Beef was heavy on sauce and light on beef, and the sauce itself wasn't terribly flavorful. The veggie stir fry was okay, though the veggies were a bit limp and overcooked. The fried rice was a bit light on protein, and the shrimp toast was soggy...though perhaps that's not an appetizer that travels well. We ate heartily, and were glad for the in-room Chinese option that night, but if we hadn't been on an expense account we probably would have felt a bit Big City extorted.

Delish!

By Jkinghanson |

We went for dinner at 5pm. Service was great. All tables were filled when we left. Our waitress was happy to take our photo and try to convince my youngest (pickiest) daughter to try something new. Four adults shared beef with broccoli, vegetable fried rice, sesame chicken, and potstickers. We couldn't finish those three dishes between the four of us, although we all loved them equally!

Excellent food and service

By Silverfox32 |

I have been to Emperor's Choice several times over the past year for both lunch and dinner and have had the same great experience each time. The food is consistently delicious and the service is warm and friendly. Some of the dishes that I have enjoyed are their Wonton Soup(wontons are filled with a mixture of shrimp and ground pork), Hot and Sour Soup, Steamed Pot Stickers, Bar-B-Q pork appetizer, Spare Ribs, Shrimp with Lobster sauce, Singapore Rice Noodles (very spicy), Cantonese Pan Fried Noodles, and the Roast Pork Fried Rice. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Small place, Big treat

By Robert C |

One evening a year a summer ago I was walking in China Town and the nearest restaurant to my car was Emperor's Choice and since it was raining it was obviously meant for me to be there! What a great Choice! I was delighted with the full menu and with the attentiveness of the staff and the food was absolutely the best. Since then it has become my favorite place in China Town - and I do go to other places when invited by friends. The time before last a large group of young women were having a party and it was amazing the variety and plenitude of dishes that appeared one after another. Since the clientele when I have been there has been largely Oriental I am happy to see their affirmation and then to getting back to my own gustatorial moments.

Great Cookings

By MarshBruce |

This was our second experience; first was Thanksgiving when we ordered a dinner for 16 takeout with wonderful results. This time the two of us came for dinner. The fish in garlic bean sauce was delightful. The mushroom medley with bok choy was special. Service excellent. Clientele very local.

excellent and very clean

By joanne1872 |

this rest. is small and very clean and the staff is excellent. every thing we order was very good and you had to take the rest home. will go back...

Very over-priced average quality food

By lmarlow78 |

We had high expectations going to Chinatown and ordered a whole peking duck for $41. Well, first it wasn't a whole duck. There were 4 legs and no breast meat. The amount was closer to half duck. The skin wasn't even that crispy. The wraps were tasty, though. Our crab ragoons were terrible. They were just square bars of cream cheese. We didn't even finish our meal and just ate ramen in our hotel :(

No Taste

By l b |

Went there for a late lunch. We ordered the chicken in black bean sauce and the shrimp and scallops. The scallops smelled fishy and the dish lacked flavor. The chicken was served in bowl of soupy sauce which also lacked flavor and had maybe 5 little bits of overcooked onions with the chicken. We were there a few months ago and thought the food was great. Do not know what happened -but will not be back!

The Best...Better Than All The Rest

By JohnSpagnola |

Been coming here for over 20 years. Hadn’t been in a few and visited again with my son. Was refurbished and updated interior- nice- but didnt come for the setting. Came back for the best chinese in chicago. Fresh, never greasy, always ample portions.

Absolutely Best Cantonese in Chicago

By SuperChief49 |

Great deal on all inclusive lunch specials before 3pm. Polite, courteous, good service. Food very fresh. Pleasant ambience. A nice walk through Chinatown to get to location. Parking available; CTA 'L' stop nearby (Cermak); Water Taxi (12 min. walk).

Comfortable Setting Excellent Food

Typical Selection, but that is where it ends, the staff is inviting and extremely helpful, know their selections. Appetizers were superb and plentiful. Main entre's were generous in size, would recommend, as we did, do it family style, Quality was excellent, bright, distinct, and prepared expertly

Be sure to wear loose clothing, because you will need the extra room! There was 5 in our party, and we ordered 4 entrees. This was way to much food for us! I wish that we had known that this was more of a family style dining. We still had 12 hours of driving to do, and wasted a ton of food:( That being said, the food was really yummy! Nice stop on the drive through.

Very good find

I visited this restaurant with some of my business colleagues and it was a great gathering of business people from 5 different countries! We all loved the food & the service! Very reasonably priced too! Full marks from us!

Peeking duck

By Brittany T |

Some of the best peeking duck I have ever had. Only $39. We also got a noddle dish but I forget which was. Was equally as good though

Good but varies with each visit

We've been going to EC for years now. I seem to do best when I order my favorites like salt and pepper shrimp or salt & pepper soft shell crab, Hong Kong steak, beef chow fun or soups. I don't love their egg rolls or pepper beef (very hot peppers). The moo shoo is about standard. Its definitely above average as Chinese food goes but sometimes its just spectacular.

great choice

Chinese big meal

By nonn |

We walkined to chinatown from south loop and it was a short walk. The meals were huge so you coukd get away with one main meal. I had pork loin with lemon grass and my husband had beef chow mein and we both had wonton soup. All meals wrre great and it only cost $33.

Chicago Classic in Chinatown

By Peter B |

My family has been coming here for decades because of the great food, casual atmosphere, and friendly staff. The food is delicious with a nice blend of authentic and regional menu items. It is located in the middle of Chinatown so after your meal you can stroll the shops or get amazing rolled ice cream next door at Tasty House. Whether you are a local or visiting Chicago, this is the jam.

Wonderful

My two teenage daughter's and I ate here while visiting Chicago. The crispy tofu was extremely good, as were the pot stickers and the Singapore rice. The restaurant is just a few blocks from the train. The food and atmosphere were a nice treat.

Very nice

Stopped here after watching the Marathon. Very pleasant and good food. We got dishes to share. Plenty for all. Nice place in China Town.

Excellent Service

By allen006 |

I had the shredded chicken, which I've been ordering for years, but this time my server was Rachel, and she was the best ever. Empreror's choice is one of the better establishments in China Town and a is always a great choice for Asian food.

Should Be Everyones Choice

By Theresa N |

Was there New Years Day for an early lunch and it was already crowded. Started off with Seaweed soup with shredded pork. It was soooo good! I ordered the spicy Eggplant with minced pork, the eggplant was so tender and loved the spiciness of it. One order is more than enough for 2 people. We also had the Emperors Choice fried rice. I did enjoy it but found it to be a little on the dry side. I added some of the sauce from the eggplant dish that I had and made it much better. Emperors Choice is just a simply good restaurant - no fancy décor or decorations but just go for the food. It is never a disappointment!!!

Great Chinese food.

Welcoming and clean dining area. Large portions. Crab Rangoon and Egg rolls were excellent. Lomein very flavorful, good shrimp fried rice. Beef and sauce in beef and broccoli was very good. So filling that we only ate half, will have for lunch tomorrow.

Really good Chinese food & fast delivery

By Allen21096 |

We were going to order something else, but found that restaurant was closed, so, we decided on Chinese delivery. We found Emperor's Choice and after reading the reviews, we called them. The ordering process was fairly easy and we had no problem with the order taker understanding our order. The delivery was faster than they had advised us, which was great, as everyone was hungry. Everything tasted great and was hot.

Delicious

While visiting family in Chicago, we went to Chinatown. They had been to Emperors Choice before and it did not disappoint. From the appetizers, the wonton soup and the very large entree dishes, the food was delicious. The restaurant was very clean, the staff very friendly and the food was the best Chinese I have had anywhere in many years! So excited to bring home left overs to have for lunch tomorrow.

A Favorite Of Ours

By Al G |

We've been coming here for over 30 years - it's always been great! Tried others in Chinatown, but Emperor's Choice remains tops in service, food quality, and value. HIGHLY recommend. Hint - cap it off with a visit to Frieda Bakery just a bit north on the same side of the street. :)

Clean, friendly, good service and great food.

In Chicago to visit my mother for her 90th birthday. She loves Chinese food. The restaurant was recommended by friends in the city. What a great choice. The restrooms were impeccably clean. The food was excellent quality. There were nine of us and we ordered eight entrees, doubled up on the chicken egg foo yong. The appetizers were delicious. The staff was friendly, efficient and accommodated all our needs This is a restaurant I would return to in Chicago's China Town. Parking was a problem. Two days earlier 12 " of snow fell on the city.

Pleasant Ambiance and Good food

Emperor's Choice is one of the old, established restuarants in Chicago's Chinatown. Some of the old-time restuarants have recently left the area. We were glad to try out Emperor's Choice and find out that it was exactly what we were looking for. Great menu with lots of choices including vegetarian meals. Big parties are accomodated, the staff was very efficient and work hard. The vibe is great. Lots of people coming and going including families, vacationers, and locals.

Great service. Food was meh.

The eggrolls were good, but everything else was not what we were expecting in Chinatown. The food was more what I would have expected in a mall food court. I ordered the Orange Peel Chicken. It was very saucy and not at all spicy, even though I asked if it were. Also, I prefer my orange chicken to be crispy. This was lightly battered and any crispness it may have had was diminished because of the sauce. We also ordered the fried pork as an appetizer. It was ok, but again, covered in a sauce. My boyfriend ordered the Green Mussels. They were also in a thick sauce and tasted a bit more fishy than expected and a bit mushy/mealy in texture. The service was excellent and the place is very clean. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items.

First visit to Chinatown's Emperor's Choice

By MartiniWisconsin |

We had lunch at EC on a Sunday. Arrived just after they opened about 11:30 am. We had shrimp and pea pods, and beef and pea pods. Shrimp was good size, and beef was very tender. A good visit. Priced right. I recommend stopping here if you go to Chinatown.
