Fun Feast of Veggie Delights

By Karen K |

Sadly, I thought I had saved a take-out menu so I cannot recall names of dishes but they were all a hit. We started with dumplings. One order was enough to share with 3 people. I ordered an eggplant and tofu dish. My son ordered a dish with loads of greens and I think a mock chicken gluten. My husband got some BBQ dish with some weird white stuff that the waitress could not tell us the English name for. Whatever it was I would not care to eat it again. It does not have much atmosphere but the food is fresh and the menu is huge. It is closed between lunch service and dinner service. It was easy to find and the parking garage is nearby. You have to pay extra for rice but the brown rice was especially good. I will return when I find myself in San Fran again. A bonus was the bathroom was clean!

Delicious and varied vegetarian options

By Jennifer R |

We came upon the Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant five years ago while walking from the SF MOMA to our North Beach area hotel. What a great find! So many intriguing options... we had a hard time deciding how to narrow it down. On our recent trip to SF, we reprised our entire day... took the cable car to Market Street, spent a few hours at MOMA, then walked up Kearny Street, filled with anticipation for another meal at Enjoy. The food was terrific yet again. There's no doubt that if it was closer to our hotel, we would have eaten there every day of our stay.

Great, imaginative food

By Dan W |

Awesome selection of vegetarian food, almost too much choice! Quality is excellent, and prices are decent. Only complaint is that service is a bit patchy...

Skip the crowds at the Web-recommended favorites and enjoy this instead. This from a meat eater.

By Curious50093864768 |

When the more popular places nearby were overflowing, we walked and found this place. A couple of gals just passing by recommended it. First and foremost, I'm not a vegetarian. Not even close, but given the heavy spicing of Chinese and many other cuisines I will travel the route when others desire. Service was friendly, the place wasn't packed, and the food was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it, faux meats or no.

Pleasant surprise!

By ShannonM |

We found this little gem during our first trip to San Francisco. We'd just flown in and wanted a quick bite, so we Yelped for something close to our hotel. We were delighted to find out Enjoy Vegetarian was Chinese food AND all vegetarian and vegan. We had spring rolls, spinach/pine nuts fried rice and vegetable Chow Mein noodles. All were flavorful and filling; the portions are huge, so be prepared to share or take some home. Service was prompt and helpful in answering questions.

Great tasting veggie food !

By Bhavin_Shah |

By far one of the best places we have had such good veggie food internationally. Being in the city was also great and accessible. Parking across the road for $5 during off-peak. If you don't eat onions, Garlic or leek - this is heaven for you as all their dishes are made without these. Food is great tasting, the service was extremely good and there was also some flexibility to modify dishes as needed. Highly recommend the place.

Great Vegetarian Chinese

By Luce |

During our stay in San Francisco we have eaten in the restaurant once and ordered takeaway a further two times. This is the first meat alternative Chinese we’ve come across that does an array of dishes. We were a little apprehensive at first as some meat alternatives offered in restaurants aren’t always that good - this was NOT the case here. We have tried the veggie chicken chow mein with pepper, the curried fried rice, the chicken fried rice, the sweet and sour chicken, the kung pao tofu with peppers and broccoli, the kung pao chicken with peppers and broccoli, the veggie chicken noodle soup with bok choy, the Singapore style chow mein vermicelli and the sweet sesame balls. All of which was really tasty with decent size portions. The service on each occasion we’ve eaten/ordered takeaway has been really good, food is ready promptly, tastes really good and staff are friendly. I would recommend this Chinese for any vegetarians, this is the first time me and my partner have been able to order a selection of dishes and share them all - a novelty we don’t have back home.

Very tasty gluten dishes -- too bad about the onions/garlic

By Shakespeare_Fan |

We're vegetarians, but we also love onion and garlic. When looking at the other options for vegetarians, we decided to give up on the onion/garlic in order to eat at this place. The hot/sour soup really missed flavor -- it was helped by adding soy sauce. The other items we ordered were very good even without onions. One was gluten-pork, another was gluten-chicken

DELICIOUS !!!

By Brenda B |

MEAT Free, GARLIC Free & MSG Free = WONDERFUL MEAL! We started with the No Chicken Drumettes, Perfectly fied and yummy! Then we moved to the Fried Rice and Cabbage & Mushroom filled Yuba rolls with Bok Choy, DELISHHHH!!! Their house tea is a bit bland, so we didnt drink it. Highly recommened, this place is soooo good!

Service not so good

By Diane L |

Our flight to San Francisco was delayed so by the time we checked into our hotel, we were not only very hungry but found that many of the restaurants in SF close early. We searched for something nearby and discovered Enjoy. We walked quickly from our hotel and arrived about 40 minutes before close. There were still 5-6 tables with customers, so we were not concerned with keeping the staff past closing. The server was either always short with customers, or was just not happy we were there. She was not willing to help us with our order, nor answer our questions. I ordered something I knew would be vegan (menu is not clearly marked as to vegetarian vs. vegan) and waited. Food prep from the kitchen was fast. The food was good, but not really what I was looking for due to an uncooperative server. My husband and I were out of the restaurant before some of the others patrons, who were sitting and visiting. If the service was better, this could have been a 5 star review.

Fabulous

By NthnBeachesNSW |

Service was rubbish but the food more than made up for it. Do not order the sticky rice entree but everything else was amazing.

Not That Friendly

By Ang P |

I got like 4 meals cos it was my Thanksgiving. I also ordered extra rice. They kept bothering me and obviously trying to hurry me even though I was spending a lot on their food. The order was done in. I liked their sweet and sour tofu chicken but the rest wasnt worth it esp their soup with noodles in it. Their food is really expensive too.

Good Food but rude manner

By Pharster D |

The food is good but the waiter is very rude. If you have other choices, please don't come here. I promise you.

Flew thousands of miles to ear here!

By RescuedVegan |

Ate here on 6th, four hours after we arrived from uk to SF. Wow....it’s better than before. I think these people get better each year. As a vegan, I struggle to find good, flavoursome food. Enjoy is our favourite when we visit SF. The menu is vast, too vast! Makes our choices so hard! We chose the ribs with broccoli, special fried rice, drumsticks, fragrant chicken, and had complementary tea! Finished it, not bloated at all, full and very happy. China town is a lovely place to visit, restaurants everywhere but this place has no death, all veggies and protein so healthier choice.

Great Vegan/ Vegetarian food for everyone

By thomas_s_adams |

Stumbled upon this place by chance and was blown away by their extensive vegan/ vegeterian menu. The restaurant is modern and the staff were very friendly. Will probably be going back again soon.

Pleasantly Surprised

By C.A.R. |

What a surprise! My friend insisted on eating vegan and this place was close to our hotel. The menu is Asian with a lot of choices. I had rice noodles with a tofu "chicken". It was truly delicious! I was surprised because I don't like tofu. The service was quick but I believe there was a language barrier. A good experience nonetheless.

Great find!

By BusyLady45 |

Great Chinese vegetarian spot! The "meat" tasted just like real meat to me! We had the House Special Fried Rice and House Special Chow Mein, along with the fried wontons. Service was ok, nothing special, but the food was great!

Better than it looks on the outside

By Maya |

If you want Vegetarian this place has everything. It's also great just for a change of pace. Lots of meat replacements that totally taste like meat (or better). There is a Medicinal Soup that we had and may not be for everyone but if you are feeling down could be just the thing. Having been to Chinese Practioners we knew how earthy tasting these various mushrooms were going to taste. So you've been warned. Smells a bit like dirt but feels like it could be healing.

Great Choice when exploring Chinatown!

By Joanne B |

Enjoy Vegetarian features mock meat vegan dishes that taste better than the usual versions and are much better for you! So much choice and very reasonable prices. Wish we had something like this near us. Just as good as similar places in NYC. Not a far walk from Market Street on Kearney

A Time to Slim Down

By Quasarsoujourner01 |

My friend was in town and was on a diet. We went to Enjoy which is a block away from Chinatown Hilton and North Beach on Kearny and Jackson Street. The place was bright and clean. There were quite a few of customers as it was dinner time. The customers were not locals , but likely they knew this place from afar. We promptly ordered Hot & Sour Soup, Vegetable Tofu, with mushroom, pumpkin and vegtables, Singapore Style Chow Rice Vermicelli, and Veggie Rice Dumplings. Prices range from $5 to $10.00. Orders came not too long and we enjoyed the dishes knowing we will be slimming down! Cant go wrong, as the price is very reasonable. We walked out in the cold rainy night content.

Just nice portion

By Rosihan Juara |

This place is easy to find and clean. The space is a tad small but sufficient to not be stifled. Food is value for money. Btw hot tea is complimentary and you get it as you sit down.

Outstanding Chinese vegetarian fare at family dining prices

By Max59er |

We came here with foreign guests and wanted the meal to be special -- Enjoy definitely came through. We had at least three vegetarians in our party of 12, so this place was a safe choice. Portions were family sized and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed every entree, appetizers and soup included. The waitress was extremely accommodating and we were tended with care and attention. We will definitely return! NOTE: If you are *not* familiar with Chinese Buddhist vegetarian food and their use of faux meats, experiment, have fun and expect to make mistakes. If you have had it before, you will not be disappointed.

Great vegetarian Chinese

By LizandMikeC |

We were a group of 4 who visited on Monday 28th May 2018 and were certainly not disappointed - this place is all about the taste. One of the best Chinese meals we've ever eaten and all vegetarian - don't be put off by the imitation meat dishes. Particularly enjoyed the Hot & Sour Soup with Wantons and the sweet walnuts, as well as the tofu prepared at least 3 different ways. Arrive early - they were closing at 9pm on the day we ate and were turning people away (saying takeaway only) at 8.45ish. Give them a try - well worth it!

Good, not great

By utpsy |

We were excited to come to this restaurant, because our home town doesn’t have great Chinese food. As vegans, it was great to come to a completely plant-based restaurant. The food was variable. The hot and sour soup with wontons was excellent. Spicy and full of tofu and veggies. The spicy Mongolian ‘beef’ was also excellent. Many of the other dishes were bland. The hot and sour ‘chicken’ had no punch. The eggplant and string beans was also not as tasty as I hoped.

excellent vegetarian Chinese food

By AdrianBartoli |

I have eaten here as well as ordering delivery/pickup about a dozen times over the past several years, but for some reason I have never written a review — until now! Last night, I was feeling ill and it was suggested to me I should order some Hot & Sour Soup. When I say ill, I don’t mean just allergies. I had been feverish and sweating profusely, wracked by shooting bone pains, the sense that every cell in my body wanted to vomit, feeling like I might pass out at any time. In fact, it took me a few hours to actually order my soup. I had intended this to be an early dinner, but I fell asleep before placing my order online, only to wake up a few hours later to gaze out the window at a sunless sky; my fever dreams were punctuated only by abrupt bouts of consciousness marking the passage of time. I decided to order from EnjoyVegetarian because my local Chinese restaurant, often serving greasy food of questionable origin, had finally closed their doors for good — a combination of bad reviews from both customers and the Board of Health — leaving me to seek a new alternative. Thanks to the innovation of GrubHub, I could now get delivery from EnjoyVegetarian instead! My order arrived promptly, before I expected it to. The Hot & Soup Wonton Soup was perfectly spiced, sour and peppery and the portions were large, enough for four people. Really delicious and exactly what I needed! In addition, they included a complimentary package of tiny sesame ball desserts — who doesn’t love those things? This was a welcome surprise and a great substitute for fortune cookies. In the past, I have also gone to the restaurant to eat. It is clean and fairly pleasant. You don’t get the sense, as you do in other Chinese restaurants, that it’s just a take-out place with a few chairs thrown up in the front room. Not that it’s super fancy, but it’s better than you’d expect. Street parking isn’t bad at all, by the way. Everything is vegetarian. All the “chicken”, “beef”, etc. are made of soy bean or wheat gluten, and it is all very good. Meat-eaters will NOT be fooled, but vegetarians familiar with the typically pathetic meat substitutes will be very pleasantly surprised. I have tried various dishes here over the years: steamed dumplings, drumsticks, veggie duck, reishi mushroom soup, basil tofu, golden knots, twice cooked pork, veggie lamb, … and I can say that it is all delicious! It is a bit different than you will expect. It’s not the same size, shape, or flavor. However, if you ignore that and evaluate the food on its own merits, it is really excellent, fairly light and not too oily, with concentrated flavors, and generally satisfying. The most important thing I can say, is that they are consistently good every time I have been here. As a vegetarian, I enjoy EnjoyVegetarian Restaurant as a restaurant where I don’t need to scour the menu for options. As a former meat-eater, I’m happy to report that EnjoyVegetarian has food that is more flavorful and enjoyable than many other Chinese restaurants in San Francisco regardless.

Delicious faux meat!

By jpetey07 |

Ordered the wonton soup with faux ham, drumsticks, and spare ribs w/broccoli. The spare ribs with broccoli was phenomenal!!!! Drumsticks and wonton soup was also great. I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes.

Great veggie restaurant

By Chris N |

I first visited this restaurant 6 years ago and being back in San Francisco, decided to go back. Another lovely meal served by a very excitable waiter. Full of flavour and good sized portions. Will definitely be back when in the city

Wow I was so happy with this place

By Svenja H |

I went here two times already in the few days I stay here and I will probably go again. I love that i can eat anything on the menu and it is so tasty! I absolutely recommend this! The picture I included is half eaten already because I just couldn't wait to try it. Sorry about that!

Didn't expect much...

By Todd S |

Are here as a second choice after not being able to get a seat elsewhere. I wasn't expecting much ... but ended up pretty disappointed anyway. First a qualifier, I've eaten in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and other parts of China, but I usually avoid judging US restaurants on that experience. I'm making a bit of an exception here, mostly because - when asked by the staff if I wasn't enjoying my meal - I honestly answered 'no.' And when pressed for detail I was told that my opinion was wrong. It wasn't a huge deal, but it's not the kind of exchange I've had in places with good service. Anyway, the food here is unexceptional & pretty standard for what you might find in low quality US Chinese resturants. Some of my fellow diners had interesting looking dishes, but most of the menu is unexceptional. Service is average to bad. Atmosphere is actually OK, based largely on proximity to the rest of Chinatown and the cultural center. Prices are modest.

Local Says Tourists Should Eat Here!

By Gina B |

If you are looking for delicious Chinese food this is an Excellent place for dinner or lunch! Craving all your favorite dinner combos but don't want to feel greasy, gross, heavy or bloated afterwards, I guarantee this place will leave your tummy satisfied and stoked on vegan Chinese cuisine!! I love that they have such a diverse menu (and everything on the menu is something I can eat!) When I have friends visiting from out of town that want to see North Beach/China Town I often take them here and they all Love it! I wish tourist guides would direct more folks here because I think they deserve more recognition than they get. Throughout the years, I've never had a bad meal here! Healthy, well priced and Not lacking in flavor... TripAdvisor, please put Enjoy Vegetarian on a "Best of San Francisco" list!!

Great Veggie food

By Harp An' Harj L |

Good location, one of my favourites in the City. Food always looks and tastes fantastic, highly recommended, especially to Vegetarians.

Great supper

By David S |

Just opposite our hotel so after a long San granny day this was a great supper stop. Lots and lots of mock this and that but more importantly lots of taste, I can recommend the hot and sour soup a hit with me! Not hote cuisine but equally a great meal and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tons of Veggie Dishes!!!

By WestCoaster31 |

I've been here now a couple of times and every time, I have left satisfied. As a vegetarian, I enjoy "all veggie" places. Lots of options from which to select. Good lunch specials deals, too. It's not a glamorous spot by any measure, but serves up some good, filling healthy options. Worth a visit.

Great lunch!

By Vmr7913 |

I ordered a curry udon dish that was delicious. Prices are really reasonable. Good service and food—recommended for vegetarians and omnivores alike!

Lunch in SF Chinatown

By Smita P |

My husband is vegetarian. This resturant was perfect in that aspect- no meat, no eggs. Secondly the food was very well flavored and we enjoyed our meal. We order a mix off items from both lunch menu and the regular menu and ate it family style. Perfect for small- mid sized eaters like us - we even had some leftovers.

Fantastic vegan meal

By Sarah S |

We had a fabulous meal here during our stay in San Francisco. China Town itself is well worth a visit, and it was fantastic to find somewhere that catered for veggies. The food was delicious; we both really enjoyed it. Friendly staff too.

Amazing Vegan Eats

By saw50st8 |

All the food we tried was tasty and well spiced. We loved the vegan chicken and ribs. It tastes like real meat but is made of vegan products!

Wonderful fresh food in unassuming restaurant

By MRE555 |

Quiet lighting, uncluttered surround, this small restaurant provides pleasant service and excellent food. The pea shoots and ginger was a small mountain of greens with just the right amount of ginger. The flavouring of the tofu and vegetable dish was well-balanced. And very good value. A nice neighbourhood feel to the place.

Tasty and vegan, much needed!

By RescuedVegan |

So many tourist spots to fit into five days, we were stuck for finding vegan food, but were in Chinatown. Hubby found this one, and so glad he did - Gold * awarded! Restaurant does have a large awning, but it didn’t seem to stand out. Look high up when searching for the eatery. We went at 5pm opening, and were greeted by a server still setting up, although the door was open, we felt in the way? The food was delivered to the table, piping hot, the chicken wings unbelievable. Our dishes were absolutely amazing, we finished what we could and got a to-go box for the rest. Crispy chicken was amazing, spring rolls also very good. The hot soup hubby had he said was also very good. Highly recommend and can’t wait to get back to SF to try more dishes.

Vegan Asian Mecca at Cafeteria Prices

By Chewy Tourist |

I found Enjoy from a list of vegetarian restaurants on Trip Advisor and made it my duty to visit whilst on vacation here in San Francisco. I was not disappointed. It's a short walk from China Town, nestled in the financial district downtown. At first glance you might have suspicion as the decor isn't fancy, but it's totally worth it. I opted for the steamed wantons and 'basil chicken' (soy) which came with pak choi and brocoli in a fragrant sauce. The service is brisk and green tea and water are complimentary. I found the food to be flavourful and creative with wonderful 'mock' meats (soy, seitan and tofu) to choose from an extensive menu. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and has a clean bathroom. Watch out for the mid-day closing time so that you don't miss out! I wish this could be my local vegan eatery but I'll settle for special visits once every three years.

WOW!

By Ivano I |

I was so positively impressed with the choices, quality and creative menu! Living with a vegetarian is not always the simplest thing when going out and non-veg often (wrongly) assume that they can settle for a salad! I was happy my veg partner could enjoy dishes like veg ribs, veg crispy chicken and veg ham noodles :))))))

lunch special

By JDZatSF |

I met a friend and we had a lovely time getting the lunch special. They included two free fried egg rolls as an appetizer. And tea. I had what I think is the 1st item on the lunch menu: tofu, pumpkin, and string beans in a black bean sauce It was super yum! The other dish was also very good, just not as special as this one. I am looking forward to trying more things on the menu, including the eggplant dishes.

Meh

By travellingforkicks |

I thought the food was just ok. My husband liked it, but he's not a picky eater anyway. I found the food to be quite bland and uninspired. Meh.

Missing the WOW

By TravelWalking |

It's always a treat for a vegetarian/vegan to have mega choices on a restaurant menu, but when you're at one of the top Chinese restaurants in the U.S. you expect to be WOW'ed, and it was just OK. Atmosphere was fine, service fine, waitress pleasant. Everything was just OK.

Massive portions!

By jammyjameela |

Feeling very hungry we ordered 3 dishes between us. The portion sizes were so huge we ending up having to take a box of leftovers home with us. Food was really tasty and I would definitely recommend. About 10 dollars a dish on the lunch time menu.

Authentic and delicious

By vegout2 |

During a brief 4 night stay in SF, we ate Enjoy Vegetarian Food 4x. Our favorite dish was hands down the Fragrant Crispy Chicken. You can’t go wrong with anything. So legit!

Great Hole-in-the-Wall Vegetarian Restaurant

By Psychologyguy |

My wife and I ate dinner at the Kearny Street location (Enjoy's business card also lists a 754 Kirkham Street address for a second restaurant) TWICE during our 5-day stay in San Francisco, so unless my wife and I are masochists, the food was REALLY GOOD. I would characterize this place as a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant, namely, the decor is nothing to brag about, but the food is great. Enjoy has a remarkable number of selections. This is not one of those restaurants that is largely vegetarian and then has a few real meat options for those who cannot seriously commit themselves from refraining from consuming dead sinewy flesh. All choices are vegetarian. We also found this place to be reasonably priced -- a "Win-Win" for vegetarians. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Interesting food that is very different from usual vegetarian restaurants.

By Paul Prior |

The Enjoy specialises in Chinese vegetarian food that is built around that whole faux-meat idea. Therefore the menu appears to be entirely meat based, but in reality none of them are. There are carefully created options that mimic the meat dish using whatever technology is appropriate. For example one of the dished we had was "Duck" and it looks like duck exactly. I can't say if it tasted like it as I have no reference, but it was convincing and interesting. Other dishes we had were similar chicken replacement dishes. Altogether I found the experience good. However, the service was a little lacking and nobody ever took any drinks order leaving us with the excellent but insufficient Chinese green tea. My girlfriend did not rate this place at all and putting words into her mouth I would say that this was actually because the meat alternatives were too realistic for her and left her with the impression that they must actually be meat. If the service was a little better I would definitely go again as there is a lot to try from the menu, but I'd have to find someone else to go with as Anne had a Subway on the way home and generally didn't Enjoy the experience (See what I did there???). For the adventurous vegetarians amongst you.

Surprisingly delightful

By Srivijay P |

Walked in with a certain amount of suspicion but found the place buzzing with early lunch crowd. The lunch specials were very good. Large portions. Food felt like home cooked. As the afternoon progressed the crowd increased. Bunch of ladies buzzing as bees trying to manage customers. Will want to visit again during this stay.

Quality vegetarian Chinese food

By Boleslaw S |

Good food great prices, tofu successfully mimicking various meats and fish, but also great vegie dishes for purist like me who prefer tofu as tofu, vegies were fresh and tasty and soups are worthy considering as main course of shared as appetizers.

Great Lunch Specials

By marlenehastape |

I had lunch with colleagues during the week. This is a great hole in the wall restaurant. All dishes are vegetarian (and some vegan). They have a great selection and good prices. It does get crowded so you need at least an hour block to wait for a table and eat during the lunch rush. They also offer pick up.

great choice for vegetarians and omnivores

By Margherita D |

Was there with a omnivore friend, I'm a vegetarian. We both enjoyed the food, there is a vast choice actually! The food is in general less spicy respect to other asian restaurants. The restaurant is located in a neat neighbourhood. The price is reasonable, considering that the portions are quite large.

Amazing!!

By Jan83 |

My husband took me here for lunch in our visit to San Francisco. I'm vegan and he's not but he also eats vegan food when we go out. Chinese and Thai are my favorite. This place is amazing. The food pretty clean in flavor . I wish the menu was bigger and the actual place too. Its a little tied, but the food is wonderful. I will eat there again in our bed visit to San Francisco. Very recommended.

Savory

By Atiya-in-Raleigh |

I do not eat sugar, so I asked for a dish that would not have its taste altered by preparing it without sugar. I ended up with pumpkin, string beans and tofu with a black bean sauce. It was good, but the smell was stronger than the taste of the sauce (which was a bit watery). The components of the dish were tasty. I was asked if I wanted rice, and I said yes to the brown rice. I did not realize there was an extra charge for it. I could have done without it (it tasted good, I simply did not eat much of it). I enjoyed the food enough to eat here again, which I may do before I leave in four days. There is a lot to choose from on the menu and I would strongly recommend the restaurant to vegans, vegetarians and anyone who wants to eat good, healthy food.

Great vegan Chinese food

By Robert P |

We thoroughly enjoyed having a huge menu of vegetarian Chinese food. The few non-vegan options are clearly marked. Food was very tasty and portions were reasonable. Spicy options and noodle bowls are available. Service was a little off. Soup and entrees arrived together. We would return. Easy walk from the cable car (Powell and Jackson stop) if you want to enjoy two treats.

Delicious

By Kathy B |

We had the vegetarian hot pot - Thai sweet and sour and also another dish of Kung Pao Soy Chicken. Both meals were great. The hot pot was a soup w a warmer to keep it hot.

Loved the eggplant!

By christinebe1129 |

A casual restaurant in Chinatown, I checked it out because the restaurant I wanted to go to had a long line. I'm sure glad I did! I ordered eggplant and string beans in a black bean sauce. The eggplant was tender and the beans were slightly crispy -- simply wonderful. They have a large selection of soy and tofu "meat" that looked pretty good. Tea was complimentary and meal was reasonably priced.

Healthy option in Chinatown

By HanaleimomTx |

We came here on a Sunday night, August 4. This is the Kearny St location in Chinatown. It was past 8 PM when our first choice restaurant had over an hour wait. We found yelp's review of Enjoy and decided to give it a try. There were only 3 tables with customers when we came in. We were the last to leave before they close. The service was good. Waitress was helpful and answered all questions. We ordered 2 dishes and were very happy with our choices. All items are vegetarian. There is no MSG, garlic, or onion. Imitation meat and fish products are made of soy, yam or wheat products. Dishes are perfectly seasoned, not greasy like some Chinese restaurants. We had #45 Eggplant with seabass and # 54 lotus roots, lily, vegetables, snow peas, ginko nuts. Both are not the usual dishes made in most Asian restaurants we've tried. If we go back to SF we'll definitely come back to this place again.

novel and tasty vegetarian chinese food

By Kirkm |

Worth a visit to try some very tasty vegetarian food in chinatown. meat/fish/etc inspired alternatives with nice textures and flavour you won't find in many restaurants in the west.

Theodore s

By Theodore S |

Tasty and well-presented vegan dishes. Extensive menu choices . Fast and friendly service. Very fair prices. All menu items are clearly and accurately depicted making choices easy-definitely a plus for first time guests.

Tasty

By hcze |

I ordered two takeaway dishes, one was mock chicken and the other one was mock abalone. Although both are nice but they use same sauce base and taste exactly the same.

Not good

By ashutosh a |

The name is confusing - I thought it will be all Vegetarian restaurant. They just have few dishes that are vegetarian - which is true for many other places. I just ordered the Veg Noodles. Probably will never order them again. Some other dishes (which people ordered) looked fine. But not sure. Also, it was bit of a challenge communicating/making understand my order. Maybe the person at counter was too busy in other walk-ins and takeaways.

A Great Spot for a Plant-Based Meal!

By Dawn B |

Finding a restaurant with plant-based/vegan options in SF near our hotel in Union Square was much harder than expected. Enjoy Vegetarian was amazing. They use faux meats to create delicious dishes such as Mongolian beef and Kung Pao Chicken. A huge menu to choose from. We ate there several times during our 7 day visit to the city.

Good Food Without Meat

By chanyu1 |

This vegetarian restaurant will fool you with some of their no-meat dishes because it tastes just like the meat dishes at other restaurants. The "fake" meat, primarily soy products, tastes just like the real stuff and with the ingredients added, it is very tasty. I do not know exactly how healthy the meat replacement products are but assuming that it is healthier than eating meat, there is no sacrifice in taste and flavor. One of my favorite vegetarian restaurants...

Great all veg place!

By bookersclub |

I love that this place was all veg. They had great food! The service was awesome as well. I liked their vegan options as well. Try the sample platter appetizer.....you get to try a little bit of everything.

Blan but good

By Daniel V |

You are probably thinking: well duh, its vegetarian. But i have been to many vegan restaurants with great flavor and portion sizes. we ordered a spicy chicken dish, vegetable chow mein, and wonton soups. the chicken was good and had a nice kick and flavor. the Chow mein was ok and tasted as it would at a regular chinese place. The wonton soup was the blandest soup i had ever had. I do not recommend it. the service was quick and good. The place is clean, as well as the bathrooms. we went on a weekday around lunch time. It was moderately busy.

Excellent vegetarian restaurant

By bbb57aolcom |

Enjoy Restaurant now has three restaurants in the city: Sunset, Richmond, and Downtown. This may have around for a long time (I don't know), but I just found this downtown restaurant. I ordered five dishes --- all were outstanding 1) rice with pine nuts --- excellent; fluffy 2) appetizer --- vegetarian rolls over veges 3) "fish" with eggplant --- another excellent choice 4) "chicken" wrap with lettuce -- my personal favorite 5) spring rolls --- nice Other comments: Atmosphere: average Pricing: reasonably cheap Service: exceptional Finished with ice cream --- ok So it is another restaurant downtown worthy of repeat business.

Disappointing

By TwinBmom |

We were looking forward to a great vegan meal based on the positive reviews. But, we must have hit them on an off day. The flavor wasn't there, the portions were very small for the price, and there was more filler vegetables than actual vegan "meat". I agree with a previous review, maybe 10 years ago this would have been good but there are so many better choices at more reasonable prices.

Good Variety Of Vegetarian Dishes

By RAJ711 |

We seldom eat at this restaurant as the environment is rather run down. However, we really like their food and order as take out. They have many dishes with vegetarian versions of chicken, a few with vegetarian pork and even a lamb dish. So far we have found only one dish that we did not enjoy, and they told us that we would probably not like it; fair enough. They do a good job on their sweet and sour chicken, their curries and their chicken soup with udon noodles. We have been going here ever since they opened in the Inner Sunset and have truly enjoyed it.

Nice friendly efficient service, large portions

Good value but food was somewhat gloopy and bland and vegetables overdone. Not that much more to say but Trip Advisor wants me to add more characters.

No-frills resturant with an amazing choice

By Jane H |

This resturant is on the edge of China Town. The decor is very plain, however the choice of options is fantastic. There was so much choice it was dificult to choose. We tried the sweet and sout 'chicken' which was very good. We will definately be back.

Vegan radness!!!

Loved it! Clean, good vegan menu, and friendly staff. Typical vegan Chinese fare, but fresh and light. Excellent value.

Blande vegetarian

By Compulsive22 |

This would have been a decent vegetarian restaurant maybe ten years ago, but thankfully things have moved on. This is typical Westernised Chinese food simply with the meat stripped out of it. This means that it is generally bereft of taste and on the greasy side. The restaurant offers some mock meat options, such as fake bbq pork, which I ordered as a starter for curiosity's sake. It arrived cold and was awful. The tofu rolls I had for my main were better, but not by much. The service was punctual, but lacking. I was desperate to visit the toilet, for instance, but had to wait whilst the owner's nephew cut in front of me to use the facilities instead, which I was utterly amazed at. There are a great many better vegetarian and vegan options in this city and I would encourage customers to spend their money there instead.

Good basic vegetarian Chinese food

By Kronoc |

This is a no frills place. Staff are courteous and service was fine. Good range of vegetarian food (no meat here). I have had much better Chinese food. Not great for a date but fine for a quick bite to eat.

Good vegan food in San Francisco

By ec2005297 |

We came here after we arrived to San Francisco. It is relatively close to the piers. The restaurant was pretty empty when we went. The service is quick and there are lots of dishes on the menu. Most of the dishes we got were delicious (the drumsticks, House special fried rice and the lettuce wraps were favourites). However, the sticky rice dumpling was very bland. I would recommend this place if you want a good Asian restaurants with vegan meals.

It was alright.

By MenglembuMag |

I came to this restaurant based on the TA reviews. The restaurant was nice and the waitress was friendly and recommended the dishes which I took the advise. The eggplant with tofu with sacha sauce was not bad but disappointed on the veggie yee mein to which the name of this dish should be with a lot of veggies, not the case. Both dishes were on the sweet side.

Great food

Really enjoyed our meal here, staff where really friendly and we had a lovely meal. I was the only vegetarian but the three other members of the party (meat-eaters) really enjoyed the meal too. Thankyou!

Best Vegan Chinese Food.

By dr_foucault |

Yes it is true, this is the best vegan Chinese food around. I am talking around the world here. There are many dishes here that are vegan I thought I would never eat again. If you are new to vegan food or been vegan for many years this restaurant is made with quality.

Vegan - specializes in faux-meat

By mysteryb |

The steamed dumplings were light and came with a fantastic dipping sauce...perfect when I added a bit of hot sauce. The Kung-Po chicken was very good...just hot enough, and the fake meat had great texture. I found a dozen other things on the menu I'm dying to try so I'll be sure it hit it again on my next trip through San Francisco.

Delicious Veggie Meals

By Wineknut |

Stopped here on a whim when my first restaurant choice had an hour wait and being on Eastern time it was already kind of late. Only could sample one appetizer and one main but both were quite good. The app was salt and pepper pumpkin and it was delicious. A little crunch, a little heat, interesting pumpkin texture - it was a delicious surprise. I had am eggplant fish with tofu that was also tasty but would have benefited from ginger and garlic. This place uses no garlic which I consider a negative. Also I am not a fan of fake meat so I purposely stayed away from faux chicken etc, but lots of people were really enjoying those dishes. They can't all be wrong. Service was slow although food arrived quickly when I finally got someone's attention. Same with getting the check. But overall it was quite a pleasant surprise.

Wonderful Eggplant with Green Beans!

By bbtapper |

"No garlic, onion or MSG in any dish"--right away I thought that this could be trouble! I love garlic and onions (thank goodness there was no msg!) The imitation "meat" dishes are made out of soy products, yam or wheat gluten. We ordered crispy tofu, steamed dumplings, fried wonton, eggplant with green beans, Mongolian "beef," house special noodles, Fragrant crispy chicken and white rice. The eggplant dish in black bean sauce was tasty and wonderful! Because there were no spices, onion or garlic, the rest of the food was fresh, but bland! The soy sauce and red peppers on the condiment dish on each table were life savers! Tofu, etc. used to fabricate "meat" didn't really pass muster; the "meat" came across as "mystery meat" to me. Having said all this, the restaurant was clean, and the ladies serving were very friendly, the customer service, excellent! I am a carnivore, but, the vegetarian I dined with said he would definitely return. he loved the food!

Very disappointed

Im from Texas, and rarely get to enjoy various vegetarian food. I ordered 3 dishes, all tasted very poor, with exception of the spring rolls. You may finding better options elsewhere

Vegetarian Paradise in Chinatown

By SalsaB |

I've written a review of Enjoy Vegetarian at its principal location on Kirkham. This outpost, however, is my favorite among the three restaurants in their group of Enjoy Vegetarians. Other than the height of lunchtime, it's never been so crowded that I cannot get a table. The food is just as good as the food on Kirkham (if not better), and a step above the Geary (Richmond) location. There are some exotic options on this menu (and all Enjoy Vegetarian menus) that one will not easily find at most Chinese restaurants. It's fitting for its location in Chinatown, though all of the food is completely vegetarian. Also, it is important to understand that this is Buddhist Chinese vegetarian food, without the use of onion or garlic (which I love, and the lack of those wonderful ingredients is the principal reason for this four-star rating). My favorites are the Hot and Sour Wonton Soup (yes, wontons in the soup), the Eggplant and Seabass, the Lettuce Wraps. I also enjoyed -- to my surprise -- the fatty (vegetarian) pork (I haven't eaten pork in twenty-five years). Their Kung Pao shrimp or chicken is not great. I wouldn't recommend it. Without the garlic and/or onion it lacks. The Mongolian Beef, however, is quite good even without the onions (it would be better with it, though). The egg rolls aren't special, the drumsticks are okay (Golden Era/Golden Lotus are better). The Fragrant Chicken or the Chicken Nuggets, however, are incredible. Best in class. Finally, Enjoy Vegetarian never uses MSG, unlike most restaurants in Chinatown. It's worth a trip, for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. It's definitely something different. Recommended.

Amazing how they can have "skin" on vegetarian fish.

By AldoMiro |

The menu is really extensive, you can find just about any food or flavor, and it's all vegetarian. Portions are generous. Service really great.

Nice selection of Chinese Vegetarian food

By Janis L |

It was great to find a good vegetarian restaurant right near ChinaTown. The place was nice, service ok and the food was good and basic. Not really anything to write home about though.

Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant

By Yitzhak44 |

For all you healthy diners, vegetarian, vegan,or others, this is the place to go.It is in the heart of the Chinatown/Financial districts. It has mid-range pricing and is clean. The food is really good, and the menu is varied, with many choices.Bonus ! They also sell beer, maybe wine (not sure). We went there twice in one week.

Unbelievable

By David L |

I have only once eaten abalone, and rarely eat lobster, due to the expense, but here you can have 100% vegetarian substitutes for flavour, texture and colour. The Mock Duck, is more commonly available, canned, from China, but the "real thing" is so much better. I don't know anywhere else in the Western World (apart from their sister Restaurants, in San Francisco) that have food as good as this! Just make sure you order a few at a time, as you need to finish each plate whilst it is still hot! It loses it's texture and flavour all too quickly. Forget your expensive suits - it's a fairly run down restaurant, that has never let me down in 25 years! It's cheap, but fantastic.

Wonderful Vegetarian Restaurant!

By nygla |

We fell in love with Enjoy Vegetarian after our first meal here in May 2012 and try to stop by one of its branches whenever we are in San Francisco. Since the restaurant does not use eggs, garlic or MSG, we only have to request no nuts in our dishes to be able to safely eat any dish. This is our favorite vegetarian restaurant by far, not to mention the most convenient for our allergies! We pretty much like everything we have ordered from the restaurant, but my favorite dish is the Eggplant in Spicy Chili Sauce while my husband orders the Lotus root, Lily, Vegetables and Peas minus the Ginko nuts every time we dine here. I prefer the plain vegetable dishes over the ones with mock meat, but we both like the Combination Platter of Appetizers. I feel conflicted because I try to rate the restaurants in a particular locale in relation to their competition. Thus, Enjoy Vegetarian suffers from its location in San Francisco. I would give this restaurant the top score in a heartbeat if it were located in the Midwest, but it is obviously not on the same level as the gourmet Chinese restaurants Yank Sing and Koi Palace. Similarly, as much as I enjoy the food here, I would not rank the restaurant equally with the astounding tasting menus from Luce or Michael Mina. I wish I could give the restaurant 4.5 stars plus a special star for being vegetarian.

A Simple After Dinner Taste

By Quasarsoujourner01 |

It was great to know San Francisco Bay Area would have rain for a whole week; But one of my friend decided to come to town for dinner. We did our simple three dishes at Capitol Restaurant on Clay Street. Afterward, my friend wanted something else. So we stroll down to Kearny Street near Chinatown Hilton and located ths"Enjoy Vegetarian Restaurant at 839 Kearny Street. It was empty, but after we were seated there were more people out of the rain. We ordered steamed dumpling, Hot and Sour Soup (large), and Egg plant with sting beans , tofu, and black bean sauce.. It was not to warm up the bodies from the down pour. The bill was reasonable..about $25 before tax and tips. Try this place if ever in the neighborhood visiting or strolling by.

So good

By MFamily3 |

Pros: Excellent food. So very good. Loved it all. Second favorite meal we had in SF. Our waiter was knowledgeable, kind, and very friendly. He was great. Cons: Er... lady that brought out our tea...very rude. She snapped at me for asking for something and dumped the item on our table without even looking at us. She hurried us off, even though there were plenty of free tables, and we felt really unwelcome by her. The food was exceptional, though, I do have to say.

Love this place/healing, delicious food

By Maya |

We've been here a couple times as it's close to the Hilton Financial district and China Town. They are doing unique special food. Yes there is no meat served here although you might not know that as the substitutes are so good. The service is a bit cool and standard like in lots of Chinese places but the food is worth it to me. They have some special items/soups with special roots and mushrooms so if you are feeling ill try them. However know - They taste healing so have an earthy taste that not everyone is going to like. Enjoy Enjoy

Disappointed No Lunch Specials...

By pokeybonan |

We went in here on Memorial Day and they didn’t offer their lunch specials which they have normally at lunch time Monday-Friday. After getting over our disappointment, all of us had outstanding very good Chinese vegetarian food. We particularly enjoyed the Ma Po Tofu and the Hot and Sour soup. Service was fine.

Wonderful Veggie Option

By Elizabeth R |

As a vegetarian, typical vegetarian dishes containing only vegetables or beans or something gets old. This completely meat free restaurant has so many options with so much imitation meat that is absolutely delicious! They have tofu, chicken, pork, and even duck to chose from, and they're as satisfying, if not better, than every other meat substitute. Definitely check them out!

So good!

By Chelsea |

The restaurant is closed for a couple of hours so I ordered via Postmates. I got fried rice with "pork" & "beef", my partner got the kung pao chicken. The mock meat quality is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. Very good, I would eat here again.

A fine vegetarian experience

By Beaten Track |

This is a decent meal, with most of the vegetarian Chinese staples. Nothing special and the food is a little bland. In SF, the mecca for vegetarian restaurants, you can do better. But if in the neighbourhood this is fine.

Very delicious food

By Martin |

The food was delicious and the portions were decently large. The staff was very nice. Most of the food was vegan and the vegetarian food was specially marked.

Good quality and volume with a decent price

By Yang-Chieh C |

The restaurant theme and food selections agree with what I expect as a Taiwanese/Chinese Buddhist vegetarian style. The food quality is reasonably good.

GOOD MENU GOOD FOOD

By 631micky25 |

If you are concerning your health for the future. Please try this variety of vege menu at Enjoy Vegetarian. I ordered three dishes. Cream taro root with vegetable, Asian daikon with vegan lam pieces, spicy vege Mangolian beef. Average portion for 3 to 4 person. Seasoning is about average. Not salty and sweet. We have brown rice which is moist enough. The most important there is not cooking smell from kitchen like some of the restaurant.

Delicious

By S S |

I went for one of the lunch specials - daikon with imitation spareribs and lettuce. It was absolutely delicious. The daikon was perfectly cooked and the imitation spareribs were flavorful. It came with a fried veggie role and rice. The portion was generous that it could easily be for two meals. Will visit again soon!

Delicious, amazing food

By Richard M |

The food was incredible, and the service was super efficient. I would highly recommend and would definitely visit again.

Excellent vegan Chinese food, good prices

By Heather D |

This was a bit of a walk for us from Where we stayed at Fishermans Wharf but it was worth it. The restaurant is vegetarian not vegan however the lunch special menu was all vegan, so all good. Everything on that menu was US$9.99 plus tax of course and there was a lot to choose from. We really enjoyed the food. Meals come with rice, spring roll and Chinese tea. There was plenty of space in the restaurant and it looked clean. Service was adequate.

Best Chinese in the Bay Area

The best Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area- it's the absolute go to for my family. Vegan or not, this place is a "must-do" if you love great Chinese food!
