Unassuming decor, flavorful food

By SkyFlies |

Perfect neighborhood spot for good Chinese food. Love the dry fried tofu starter, crispy beef and garlic broccoli. The setting is simple, no booths, no ornate laterns. Just good food around the corner.

Simply Delicious and Inexpensive

A local friend recommended this restaurant and it didn't dissappoint. The food is high quality in this quaint, no frills restaurant where you can get a delicious meal for $10-$15.

Many Happy Memories of Great Chinese Food !

By Brooklynexpat65 |

Love Eric's. Great food, super fast service and great memories. This restaurant has been here for 20+ years. I have spent many happy night's eating here with my family. I always start off with the potstickers and Eric's Prawn salad. They have the prawns sliced down the middle and there are some purple julienned onions with it as well and it's good. There sesame chicken is really good and made differently from sesame chicken you will find at other Chinese restaurants. They have sliced carrots and black sesame seeds. Their mango prawns have a nice tangy taste so I order this dish as well. They are on the corner of 27th and Church so you can't miss the place. They get a bit crowded in the evening so there may be a 15 minute wait for a table.

Best Chinese in the city

By Umbeijo |

The name and the storefront would never lead you to believe that this is some of the most delicious Chinese food in a city packed with great Chinese food. The Victorian house is bright and airy and the food is too. Authentic menu and flavors, no where near Chinatown, clean and delicious--and recommended to me by my Chinese friend who grew up in SF and knows Chinatown like the back of his hand. You will be surprised and thrilled by how good this place is. I get cravings for the crispy beef.

Disappointed

By NancyCooklin |

We went for dinner, it was three of us. The restaurant was extremely noisy, not only from guests conversation, but dishes handled loudly. We never got one of the dishes we ordered. Waited ling for our food. Seems they prioritize take outs. We didn’t get a proper receipt even if we asked for it, but one of those usual green stubs written in Chinese. Food was average good. I won’t go back unless my company wants to go!

Prawns with walnuts.......most amazing Chinese I have ever had

By Bassetsam |

We found this place on yelp and based on reviews gave it a go and I was completely wowed by the food and amazing value for money. We had vegetarian spring rolls to start which were very tasty with a peppery flavour then I had the prawns and walnuts which was so delicious, the walnuts are sweet candied style and the prawns lovely and fluffy in batter, amazing flavours. The other half had Szechuan beef which was equally delicious. No desserts here but no room anyway. Great value for money, non fussy surroundings and wine was 6 dollars which is the cheapest I have found in San francisco

Great small locals place

By SammyDannyCleo |

Reservations only for 6 or more. Four of us arrived and were seated quickly. Service a bit slow but they were busy. Food was outstanding, I especially enjoyed Eric's fried rice and the pot stickers were the best I have ever had!

Nice place

By Karson Y |

Food was good, service was excellent. Hot and sour soup is definitely one of the better ones we've tried in a while! Freshness showed in each and every dish ordered and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Only issue was that the rice was dry that night.

A Must Try!!! For Meat eaters and Vegans

By TravelNurse123 |

This place has flavorable food, great service and the prices are reasonable. You'll have to find street parking...and it's worth! Once you enter..you'll seat yourself. Don't worry about being over looked...the waiters/waitresses are very observant. Every table receives a hot pot of tea in addition to a choice of beverage. From there you'll get their undivided attention. My friends and I have a mixed crowd of Vegans and Nonvegans. The entire group agreed that their meals were outstanding!!! This is my new go to spot when I'm in San Francisco.

Great Chinese Food!

By Rrcwilson2 |

One of my favorite stops in the city. Clean and great food. the staff treats you like family and I have never had a bad meal!

Great flavors at reasonable prices!

By gtinez |

I have been to Eric's in Noe Valley a few times now. It usually has a table open or a fairly short wait, and they provide tea once you are seated. The atmosphere is nice, but nothing fancy, and the service has always been good and prompt. The real reason to go is the food! Two dishes in particular, the sesame beef and shanghai chicken. The sesame beef is sensational, battered and fried and glazed in a sweet sauce. The shanghai chicken is just slightly spicy, with pine nuts and seaweed. If you are looking for some good Chinese food, definitely stop by. And you won't miss much if you just get the take out, since its really all about the food.

We were recommended, and it didn't disappoint

Fresh clean and budget priced, serving excellent freshly cooked food. Large portions and excellent value. would I visit again? Yes again and again.

Deliciousfood, great service

This Chinese restaurant is away from the touristy area of the city and frequented by locals who know that the food is fresh and delicious and served in a contemporary and clean setting. Great value too.

Was great once

By M J N |

Been eating @ Eric's since it's opening and the last time was very disappointing. Eric's cakes were just crispy grease, the rangoons were the best part but also not great. The walnut prawns were also pretty good. Just average, won't go outta my way next time and eat in & hope.

The best food in SF

By elijah g |

So good. The staff is very kind and the food is fresh. It is consistently good and worth going out of the way for.

A family favorite since 1995

By LouSF |

We've loved eating at Eric's since 1995 when we still lived in Noe Valley. Now that we've moved to a different neighborhood and one daughter has moved to New York, we still eat there or order our favorite dishes for takeout - Eric's pancakes with its tasty peanut butter sauce, Eric's spicy eggplant, Orange beef, Eric's spicy chicken, Sautéed string beans, Walnut prawns, Mu-shu pork, among others. Food is always freshly cooked and the staff friendly. The place is always full, whether dining in or picking up takeout. It's worth the wait.

Not as good

By cja2k1 |

I moved into this neighborhood 16 years ago, and have been going to Eric's for longer, but there's been a definite decline in food quality and service. What happened?! Maybe there's been a change in cooks, for one, but many dishes have the same thick brown sauce that makes them all taste the same (even if you ask for "light sauce"). As for the service, there are still a couple of nice servers there, but others don't talk or smile or acknowledge you when you walk in. The last time we were there, this one gentleman saw us enter but just wiped one table after another (three altogether) before he looked up and seated us -- no "hello" or "this way" -- just walking to an empty table, slapping some menus down, and walking away. (It was past 8pm on a weekday so there weren't even very many people eating.) Next time I crave Chinese food and want to stay in the neighborhood, I'll walk a couple of blocks further and go to Henry's Hunan on Church -- the best one in the City.

Fathers Day Dinner

By Leanne Y |

We ordered sizzling rice soup which had a generous portion of seafood, vegetables, mushrooms and water chestnuts. Tasty but slightly spicy because of the white pepper. It was fun to watch the rice sizzle! We ordered beef with scallops on a sizzling platter. That was tasty but more on the salty side. We also ordered walnut prawns that were breaded and served in a cute fried bowl! Prawns were a bit over cooked but good. Lastly, we ordered the salmon special. It was a nice surprise to have fresh asparagus and red bell peppers in a black bean sauce. Overall, we were happy trying different Chinese entrees than we usually eat in Chinatown or at our regular places that we frequent. Most memorable: the servers' attentiveness to service! I would return to try other specials because they are not your typical entrees that we eat every day!

Great food

By Jen255093 |

Incredible service but certainly not over the top. You get a pot of tea and cups when you sit down , and a glass of water . The menu is extensive and the food is really delicious. Korean / Asian . Enormous serves. We ordered an entree and a main each and ended up taking nearly half of it home and eating it the following night. Well worth a visit. Not surprisingly ,it always seemed to be busy . Good selection of wines too

Amazing Chinese Food in a Beautiful Neighborhood!

By Water_Polo_Fan |

We ate a little bit of everything with the avocado rolls, fried crab meat rangoon and pot stickers are excellent. Great texture and perfect amount of feelings for each. The garlic and sweet sour chicken were exquisite. The sesame beef and mango beef were tasteful and great portions. The family and I drove all the way from Mountain View to try this place. We were not disappointed on contraire, it was great. We are going to be back to try other things in that menu. The service was very professional and friendly.

Not Disapointed at all !

By Rene P |

Overall was great great chinese food ! I could get negative by saying the mongolian beef was not executed to traditional perfection and the fried rice was slightly off par but my kung pao langistino was out of this world and overall its the best chinese food for that price i have ever had.

Nice Chinese restaurant

By Umut Ünal |

I ordered Sesame Beef and it was delicious. They serve a teapot and water to the table. Very nice Chinese cousine for the price.

Very Good Choice

By lsutigre |

Crisp, clean, light atmosphere. Glass covers on white cloth with heavy damask napkins. Nice touches. Hot & sour soup has interesting stinky cheese/barnyard flavor, which is quite unusual and quite good. Good variety and fresh ingredients throughout the menu. Peapod and water chestnut sauce a bit thick, as is often the case. Kung Pau dishes are "just right" spicy. Shrimp, prawn dishes all excellent, perfectly cooked. Service is efficient and family style. I really liked the atmosphere of this place, located in a nice residential neighborhood.

Very good food at a good value.

By Smckee1961 |

Sesame chicken was very good as well as the prawns. Appetizer platter was a nice way to taste a wide variety.

Tasty and inexpensive

By SimonTT |

Eric's is a favourite of mine and I always take my out of town visitors to Eric's. The food is very tasty and is a Californian Chinese fusion that works. The place is small (only about 10 tables) so go early (5 - 6pm) for dinner or be prepared to wait.

Great as always

By AshishGuptasfo |

Whenever we are town going here for Xmas dinner has been a tradition and it did not disappoint once again. We had a short wait but it goes by quickly. The service was quick and efficient. All of the food was delicious.

Good food, good wine, good service and good price

By X8512LQwilliamp |

A well run Chinese food establishment with dependable service and good food prepared as you like it. Seems to be always crowded with local business clients, families and couples. Lots of "carryout" so get a table away from the cashier as everyone lines up to pay. Large menu selection and better wine than beer selection. The staff can not help with tourist questions unless you speak their language.

Service and Food Portions have declined...

By TravelNurse123 |

While in San Francisco for a Business trip, I decided to stop by here with a few colleagues to grab a bite of their General Tso's Meatless Chicken. When in town, this is typically my go to spot for Chinese vegetarian dishes. Well, I'm sad to say that the service here has declined. Our waitress was not consistently present to provide, water, condiments, etc. I had to go and look for her on more than one occasion. When our food arrived to our table, those who ordered the same dish as I did...but ordered the meat option, received approximately 75% more than I did. My plate was primarily 75% brocolli. This was not the case per my last three visits to this restaurant. I asked the waitress, "Why is my portion smaller than the others?", she stated- "Because the meatless option is more expensive for us to make". This was unacceptable and did not make sense to me or any of us at the table. Sadly, I left hungry due to the smaller portion. This place has changed. I will not return due to the snack size dinner portions and the poor service.

Reasonably priced and delicious chinese food. The name is somewhat misleading, but it's one of the nicest neighborhood restaurants, serving tasty traditional chinese dishes, and a value lunch menu too!

If you are going to San Francisco you must visit Eric's restaurant on the corner of Church Street and 27th. Food absolutely gorgeous. Ate here 3 times in 2 weeks. The walnut prawns are a must.

Dollar for dollar, best Chinese food in SF

By Tim R |

We have been going to Eric's for nearly two decades, and we make special trips from Marin just to go there. Best potstickers and crab rangoon on the planet. The Sesame Beef (aka Heroin Beef) is a must. Eric's is almost always packed, but the service is efficient and never feels rushed. Dollar for dollar this is our favorite Chinese food in The City, bar none

Great Food, Great Service

Everything was fresh and tasted great. We had potstickers, walnut prawns, seafood and sizzling rice soup, sesame beef, shanghai chicken, Eric's spicy eggplant, eggplant in spicy garlic sauce, string beans with bean curd and salt and pepper fried tofu. My "GO TO PLACE"

By DominicParamore |

I must go to this restaurant for take-out at least once a week and have now for a number of years. I do have some incredible favorites that I order over and over again and still working on few dishes I have not tried. But have to say LOVE THEM ALL!!!! The staff is friendly, always have a smile and very helpful. Phone-in orders is easy, they always get the order correct and the food is always tasty and looks wonderful when severed. They are always at the top of my list for dinner options at home. The restaurant itself is a very nice setting and have many wonderful meals, just enjoy eating at home more myself.

I have been here several times as it is convenient to where I stay, but I prefer Alice or Red Dragon. The shrimp dishes are very good, but the appetizer are not exciting.

Great place for a late dinner

By Daniel R |

Our family group (4 adults and one 5 year old) arrived around 8:30 PM. Seated quickly. Very friendly staff. Good selection of appetizers. Great selection of meal items. I had the"Meatless Kung Pao chicken", which was excellent. Not too spicy, and I ordered it hot so you never know what you will get. Everyone else was just as satisfied. I recommend Eric's for a great meal in San Francisco.

So he's good when your standard go to still excels

By FVStrona |

We went out for a recent dinner and decided it's been a while since we were at Eric's. So was looking forward to it. Even on a Saturday night it only took about 15 minutes before tables were available. The food is hot, fresh. It's the right balance of sweet, spicy, crunchy, steamy goodness. The team works fast; so you really want to focus on your menu when you come in and then take your time with your meal is served. While not the cheapest of the Chinese restaurants available in the area, quality wise it's a definite go to

We recently relocated back to the bay area, and had not eaten here for a total of over eight years. One of the first restaurants we made a point of eating at upon our return was this one. We were not at all displeased. The food was just as we remembered it, if not better. Certainly describable as superb. It is in our opinion the best healthy Chinese food we have ever tasted. We will definitely return.

One of the higher end chinese restos in SF

By Yogic S |

Love this place with it's innovative chinese dishes. Fresh ingredients and lots of options for vegetarians. The flavors of traditional chinese are there with an edge you can't put your finger on. The place is cute and quaint and always busy. A must visit resto if visiting SF and you love high quality fresh chinese food. BTW, if you do eat meat, here you can tell what it is. :)

Yummy Chinese

By tmg74 |

Although you may not commonly think of Chinese food when you hear the name Eric's... this little gem, located in the Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco is excellent. The food is always fresh -- the veggie egg rolls are to die for, the service always fast and friendly and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Chinatown gets all the hype, but Eric's holds it own.

Good choice for those who don't want the Chinatown experience

By 1SFOSO |

Want good Chinese food but don't want to go to the heart of SF's Chinatown to deal with the occasional shabby surroundings or indifferent service? Then Eric's is for you! With a wide range of appetizers and entrees, with spice levels clearly indicated, there is something for everyone here, from a hearty chow mein special (I guarantee you'll have leftovers!) to drum(sticks) of heaven, generous hot and sour sup bowls, and all manner of pork, beef, seafood, and veggie options. Wine and beer, and lots of free tea, help the conversation flow - so come check it out!

Don't try the high-end 'musts'...this is a must!

By LeTerrible |

I've been to the 'Slanted Doors' and several other Asian restaurants that were 'food destinations'. All were good...but coming from NY where my Husband works in the heart of the new China Town at 'New York Hospital'...we know the real deal....sometimes TOO REAL!'. This was the best asian food I've had in SF. It is a lovely little restaurant that is a place where natives can be found ...certainly not at those other places. The potstickers and Sesame noodles with a nice glass of pinot noir were wonderful. The servers were also pros and very friendly adding to the dinner. Entrees continued the 'wonderful' meal. We tried 3 dishes and all were a taste sensation and not too oily or sweet. The chicken with scallions and walnuts were amazing as was anything else we tried. We really loved this restaurant and it is on our return list!

Always tasty

Have eaten at Eric's numerous times, first when I lived in the area, and now as a visitor. It is always very tasty and the service is friendly. Mango prawns and Eric's fried rice are particular favorites! The neigborhood is nice and good for strolling around as well. Try it.

Great food for a great price

By Daniel R |

We stumbled on this restaurant by chance as we got off the tram near the apartment we were renting. It looked interesting so we looked it up and found it had good reviews. However, in reality, it was even better. There is a wide variety of vegetarian and fish dishes. Every thing we ordered was excellent. From the Salmon special through the Hunan Fish, the avocado rolls and the veggie rice. The portions are large, the service is good and the prices are more than reasonable. We highly recommend this restaurant and will be happy to try it again next time we're in town.

Well kept secret?

By Sailgemini |

How could I not know about this place? Not only is the food superb, but the service is quick and friendly, prices are reasonable and noise level is low (we were there on a Monday 5:15). The walnut prawns were tasty with a delicate batter, smidgen of sauce dribbled on them, crispy walnuts sprinkled generously about and served in a delightful baked (or fried?) pastry bowl. The Hunan lamb was lightly blackened -- amazingly tender & tasty with a rich sauce and fresh vegetables mixed in. All this with clean white tables, icy cold water and a full pot of tea--served with a smile. Can't remember having better Chinese food in the Bay Area. I wish we had room to order more. Unfortunately, we'll have to come back!

Fresh and Tasty Chinese Food

By ImpressionismRocks |

The food was very good as well as the service. if only they could reduce the sharp noise in there. The bowls and plates being picked up and clanging against each other and put in the kitchen were so loud that is a deterrent to a nice calm meal. The restaurant looks nice, but it feels like they don't have a clue to the noise that they make. It is hard to have nice conversation if you are wincing from the sharp clanging noise. Bottom line: I would put up with the noise, because the food is good, but I would think twice about when I want to have that kind of noise. Some people may not care about the noise, so, that is fine...

Yummy yummy food

By agm_tjc |

We ate here at the recommendation of a friend who formerly lived in the area. It was a very enjoyable meal. The food was flavorful - probably the best General Tso's ever according to the teenagers. The other dishes were quite tasty as well. Definitely a notch above most neighborhood Chinese restaurants. The service was very good.

great san francisco style chinese -- like i remember

By RomeKedi |

Great to find this neighborhood chinese place, just like i remember growing up in san francisco. Simple, well prepared, served too fast, but that's how they do it in San Francisco chinese restaurants. Only thing to improve is that the spicy dishes should be spiced up a bit, or perhaps customers can just ask to increase it.

Consistently good!

By Tim K |

I recently enjoyed lunch at Eric's, a comfortable restaurant that I've dined at many times over the years while in San Francisco. I have a penchant for sweet and sour chicken, and the dish that Eric's serves is consistently fresh-tasting and delicious. The restaurant is on the corner of 24th and Church in a neighborhood. It is small, but appears spacious with it's high ceilings and large windows. Table service is outstanding. I highly recommend for good Chinese food!

The food was interesting. A little too fat soaked. Good flavors. Try to get away from the drafty door. Service is good and the workers are friendly.

Family of 7 gathered for a wonderful dinner at Eric's

The kudos evident in reviews, Zagat and Michelin rating for this restaurant is understandable. Four of us were eating vegetarian and three were meat-eaters and we were all very pleased. I loved the vegetarian mushu and the spicy eggplant dish, as did others. The meatless spicy orange chicken dish was a delightful surprise for those of us who hadn't had it before. Excellent appetizers with pot stickers and vegetarian egg rolls. The ambience was casual and spacious enough for a table of 7. Prices were very reasonable. Excellent service. It would be hard to not repeat our experience when we're in the city again

The Best Chinese Food in San Francisco

By mercules221 |

I have been a customer of Eric's for more then 8 years, and have eaten here at least 100 times. I have always been so impressed with the high quality and consistence of their food. It is very high class Chinese food, without the high prices that usually accompany such great food. They serve plentiful portions, and the service staff is efficient and friendly. I've never waited more than ten minutes for my dinner. The atmosphere is upscale, but not snooty, and they have the most amazing collection of orchids on display. Try the Shanghai Chicken. It's a great dish with chicken, dried seaweed, pin nuts in the most amazing sauce. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, which boasts a plethora of Chinese restaurants. In fact, it's my favorite Chinese restaurant in the world. Don't miss this place if you're in San Francisco. You will not be disappointed. In fact, you will be thrilled and delighted.

Best Chinese In San Francisco

By Ascend |

We arrived late and were told by staff they will close in a few minutes. They suggested we take-out. This was not what we had in mind and as we were just about to leave the owner "Kim" came over and asked us to please be seated. They will stay as long as we wanted. A few more late patrons arrived and soon the place was busy. Kim visited our table and made sure we had a fantastic meal. The spicy egg plant is killer. This is the mark of a smart owner and great restaurant. Get the business when you can. All of our selected dishes were wonderful. Thanks Kim!!

This is a good restaurant for the money in SF. Food is uniformly well prepared. Can get very crowded and then staff gets a bit testy, but overall pretty good and worth a wait if it's short.

Not what it used to be !

By Marla B |

Haven't been here in years and won't be going back any time soon. We had a reservation for Christmas Eve only to find out we didn't have a reservation. I discovered we had to put our name(s) "on a list". This after waiting 10 min. Many people waiting for tables at this point. I had to "dog the cashier" and "waitress" to ensure we in fact did get our seat next in line. The cashier kept pawning me off on the "too busy waitress" and the "waitress" kept pawning me back to the "too busy" cashier. Huge language barrier in communication. The service once seated was fast but erratic. Items came out 1 dish at a time. We'd finish one and another would arrive. No flow or consistency. We ordered drums of heaven which were no more exciting than fried chicken wings from any other fast food restaurant. Hoison String Beans - wonderful sauce but that's where the wonderful stopped. Walnut Prawns - always a favorite. They had so little mayonnaise sauce it was akin to eating just a a dry walnut with a prawn. The nuts weren't roasted or nicely glazed. Whole dish came in some dry tortilla type bowl. We were very unimpressed to say the least. Garlic chicken, just chicken w/some kind of garlic sauce and a few vegetables. Again, nothing to write home about. Spicy Smoked Pork, the best dish of all we ordered. Good flavor and interesting. Given that the food just isn't what it used to be and the whole flub up with the reservation, none of us from our party will be returning. We will take our business to Wonderland, where everything is EXCEPTONAL.
