OK, I have to be honest - you don't go for the atmosphere. And the prices aren't cheap eats. But what you will find is high quality "clean" ingredients, well prepared and very tasty. The tacos were more filling this time than I remember. I thought I could eat 3 but had to stop after 2.

What a discovery. Unpretentious and cosy. Wooden shoes hanging from the ceiling. Fabulous tacos in portions of two. We had the cheese, shrimp and Langostinos. Delicious Mexican corn. Lovely tangy Mexican fruit salad. Superb guacamole and salsa. Unfortunately they don't serve alcohol. Cocktails and beer would've been nice but there is a supermarket across the road. The restaurant will serve your wine at additional charge.

The skinny: Parking- public lots, free to $10 Decor- terrific tile floor Restroom- none, you have to use one in the square Service- slow Food- tasty After shopping at Crate and Barrel, we stopped by to grab a quick bite. Its a bit pricey for the portion size but the food is quite flavorful. The disturbing thing was that as each table emptied around us they never cleared any of the tables. So we were surrounded by dirty dishes and food scraps. Plus there was a family there that had a small child running back and forth thru the restaurant. It's disruptive and rude and the people who run this business obviously didn't care.

Um Hi Soft Chips. Hard to find a place that knows how to do chewy tortilla chips, this place knocks it out of the park. Escuela is sorta like hipster Mexican food ultimately, feels less greasy than taco trucks etc, but I literally go for the Chips. Ask for them soft. You won’t regret it. Breakfast burrito is decent. It’s also a little expensive and the guacamole is a ripoff($14), but again, worth it for the soft chips.

Every imaginable gourmet taco and to top it v good guacamole !!! Also we had this time the grilled flank steak that came with beans and rice! All very good! You also can BYOL so what else do you need!!! I have to also mention the Jamon taco and the lobster one!

Escuela has wonderful tacos and corn, and salad, and guacamole...you get the idea. The corn on the cob is covered in chili butter and cheese and grilled to perfection. The chips are delicious and so is the guacamole. There salsa was good too but a bit spicy for me. I had the beef and pickle taco (hard shell) and it was nice. The carne asada taco (soft shell) was better though. We had a simple salad and it was: lettuce, oil, lemon juice. Very clean and bright flavors. The pork burrito that my husband had was also delicious. Only one taco is in an order so order at least two. The burrito is pretty big though and one should be enough for most people. ***The is no alcohol served at Escuela but you can bring your own (wine, at least). Parking is on the street wherever you can find it but I am told the restaurant Terroni just up the block will valet park your car for you.

We stayed at a hotel in the neighborhood and fell upon this restaurant. The atmosphere is warm welcome and relaxing. The shoes on the ceiling are interesting !!! My husband had a Chicken burrito with re-fried beans which he really enjoyed. I had a steak taco, If I recall correctly it was two to an order. I was still hungry and thought they were small so I ordered another portion. They were really fresh and good. Their Nachos and salsa, made to order, is excellent !!! I would definitely come back again. One draw back, they don't serve liquor. You can bring your own, but didn't know that when we walked in.

While I am hesitating to give this place a three or a four star review, I have to tell you that the chicken tacos were beyond delicious. As you can read from previous reviews, they do charge for chips and salsa, three dollars. We opted to have the chips and guacamole for eight dollars. Not sure how I feel about paying for chips as this was the only Mexican establishment that serves chips and charges for them. However, their chips is Mama Mia! They are really good but still should be complimentary with your meal! The chicken tacos were absolutely amazingly delicious. They serve Mexican sodas for three dollars each. So, my final opinion is I will not be dining here again only because they are a lot more money than average other Mexican restaurants. While they are above average in comparison to most Mexican restaurants, I don't think it's worth the extra money. If you are looking on Tripadvisor and this is the only thing close to you that is open and you are in the mood for Mexican and don't care about price, this is the place for you! Bon appétit!

Went to Escuela Taqueria when in LA for the Jags-Rams game. The tacos were great and I really like variety of meats. I recommend that restaurant whole heartedly. My sister lives in Silver Lake and this is one of her favorites even though it takes an hour to get across town.

We Absolutely Loved this little restaurant. The watermelon juice was perfect for a hot Summer evening. We came for a light dinner. The chips are the real deal authentic kind and the Guacamole I could have and we did order another round of both chips and Guac. I had the crispy Pork Belly Tacos with picled red onion and cilantro. Man, it was great!!! My husband had the Carne Asada Burrito and I didn't even get one taste of it. We're from Vancouver BC. We have Mexican restaurants here but I liked this food and atmosphere much better and even though they were extremely busy the service was very friendly and very good. Next time I'm in LA I will go here often. Looking forward to it.

We were visiting friends from out of town who brought us to Escuela Taqueria because it was their favorite taco spot! They were right! It was absolutely delicious! The tacos, guacamole, and chips were fantastic! It was awesome that it is BYOB! We grabbed some beers across the street at the grocery store before going! Every taco I had was delicious! They were all out of the baby back rib tacos which I hear is their number one seller.

Absolutely recommended! We went there for lunch, we ordered various tacos and they were all delicious. Really generous portion of guacamole. Average prices.

2nd visit here and it didn't disappoint. I came here about 2 years ago and was impressed by the fresh flavours and excellent tasting food. No difference this time either. They do small plates of 1 taco each (they also do burrito's but we didn't try any, next time maybe !) and me and a work colleague split them up so we could try lots. We had langostino, shrimp, lobster & branzino (yes lobster - with cabbage slaw and some creamy sauce that didn't overpower) and they were all really great. We also had carne asda (grilled flank steak marinated and came with corriander, onion and a small amount of avocado) also the jamon queso (crispy pancetta and cheese) and both were delicious ! We also had a green chile tostada which was excellent also. The only slight let down was the guacamole we had to start with, as I was expecting more chile heat and kick, but maybe that's a more european twist ?? Nice chile dip though. They don't have an alcohol licence, so you bring your own, and with a great off license across the road, you're spoilt for choice ! Highly recommended and great value too ! I will be back.

I never leave reviews but I have to. I used to love this restaurant. My family were in town so I booked a table for 10 people to take them all. We arrived exactly on time and there was a guy standing outside blocking the door and he said it was closed for a private event until 3pm. I said I have booked a table for 10 people at 1pm and he told me I didn’t. I then showed him my phone with their number on my call list and a 5 minute call the day before and he told me I didn’t book a table and they had no reservations for me and he went inside and came back with a book to show that my name wasn’t in their book and thereforeI hadn’t booked a table. . I was left on the street with elderly people and kids after paying for parking and no chance of finding a restaurant with the guy calling me a liar in front of my family after being a regular for 10 years +. I left my number when I booked the table too and had booked it in front of several people in my party. I used to recommend this restaurant now I will never return. The food and service is just is not nearly good or authentic enough to go again and risk that sort of reception.

I don’t give many 5 star reviews, but this one warranted it. Amazing burrito. Fantastic, fresh salsa. Great guac. Simple, but so good. I’m a newbie to this place and hope I get to return soon.

Taqueria Escuela is a cute, little restaurant near The Grove Farmer’s Market. It serves some delightful Mexican fare and is pretty affordable too. You pay per taco/item so you pay for exactly what you want and you don’t get any extras. The friend I came with recommended the ribs taco. While this is not what I would have ordered, I listened and they were great. Loved them. I also ordered a side of elote (corn). It was basically corn on a cob with butter, cheese, and some seasoning. It was good, but wasn’t anything fancy. The service was nice too. The ladies were friendly, attentive, and did they job well. FYI, parking for this place is non-existent. There is only street parking in the area. Right in front of the restaurant on the main street are some metered stalls, but if you walk 2-3 minutes from the restaurant around the corner there is free street parking. I’m not often in the L.A. area but this place is worth a stop if you are near. FYI: Chips and salsa are not complimentary here. Do not expect them when you are seated.

We had just visited LACMA and decided on a quick meal to avoid the early evening traffic. A colleague at LACMA recommended it as she had been recommended to it by her son. The decor is simple wooden shoe lasts hanging from the ceiling. Very quick service - our water glasses always kept full. We started with the guacamole and salsa dips with corn chips - freshly made and what a difference. Followed by Tacos. A really interesting variety very reasonable priced. But we could not resist the luxury of the Maine lobster. And it was sensational and very generous. The tortillas are amazing - quite light, excellent flavour, they cut easilly (we had to share some of our tacos!), and they held together really well. The fillings were all moreish — the pork rib was meaty and well flavored, the langoustine quite delicate, the spicy beef skirt cooked to perfection. I could go on. Recommended to us and recommended to you,

Every time we visit LA we stop here for the best Pork Rib tacos! They also make an excellent guacamole and their salsa is perfectly spiced. They offer 2 different chips soft or crispy and while both are excellent my husband LOVES the soft chips. Very casual and quick. No alcohol but they have the option of bring your own bottle... I believe a small corkage fee.

This is such a wonderful little place with tasty, fresh food at a reasonable prices. The atmosphere is cool and the people that work there are always friendly and helpful. But it's about the food, of course, and the food is great. Start with the guacamole and chips which is always fresh and tangy. The tamales are really good, but the tacos are why you go to this place. My two favorites are the branzino taco (fresh little strip of Italian sea bass with crispy skin and tender, moist meat) and pork rib taco (tangy meat carved from slow-cooked pork ribs). Yum, yum, yum.

This listing is for Los Angeles but the restaurant we visited was in Pasadena. The food is fresh and excellent value. Did not experience some of the criticism's in other reviews, no dirty tables or kids running around.

My friend and I were passing by and stopped as a whim. What a great find. Some of the best tacos I have ever had!! Go and check it out!!!

your basic taco but really cared for. a little pricey but each taco is authentic, tasty and as Mexican as Mexico City!

Tacos are good especially the pork belly. Unfortunately the tortillas were cheap store bought ones. They broke in your hand and tasted old. Really a pity considering the quality of ingredients in the tacos. The Agua frescas were very good. Overall not a bad place if you pass by. Just don't make the trip for it.

We stumbled upon this place while exploring The Grove shopping area. So many eateries around there (plus 3rd Street) and we didn't know anything about any of them, so we just took a chance. We stuck to the taco menu... very tasty and a very good selection. Homemade chips were delish. Would like to go back to try some different kinds of tacos. Wasn't SO AMAZING that I'd go back there before trying other restaurants in the area, but it's definitely a good spot to know about/have in your back pocket.

I came here years ago and remembered liking the tacos. So when the chance came to go again I was looking forward to it. What a shame the person working the front of house was so miserable he made our experience unpleasant. He started out unfriendly which is not enjoyable, but also not a crime. I asked for the bathroom and he tells me where (back and right) but it is past a sign that clearly says, "Employees only" and is through the kitchen so when I ask again to make sure I am going the right way he looks annoyed and repeats the exact same thing he already said. No further instruction or clarification to ensure I am in the right track. That's rude, but not a crime. After he dropped off food he never checked back on us (the restaurant wasn't busy - we were there at an off hour (4:30)). Every interaction felt uncomfortable, like what's this guy's problem? Finally, when we had an accident and spilled water we had to flag him down and alert him to it (even though the front of house is so small there's no way he didn't know it happened), but he ignored us and left my husband standing while his seat was wet and unable to be sat in. We used the napkins we could scrounge up to sop up the wetness and then asked for our check and left. That was beyond rude or unfriendly. That was like a big FU to us. Obviously we weren't welcome there for some reason. Message heard loud and clear! We definitely won't be back! Food alone was decent but with so many wonderful taquerias to choose from in LA, why opt for one that has rude, unfriendly and bad employees? There's no need to! Peace out, Escuela! I hope for the owner's sake they revamp their FOH or I can't imagine this place out lasting the competition.

Five of us stopped here on a Saturday morning. Every one ordered something different. My wife had the Tinga Tostada (Excellent) The waiter Carlos was good about checking the for allergens. I had the Breakfast Burrito. Also outstanding. It was spicy and well seasoned. The others had a Camerones Taco, Potato taco, Beef and Pickle Taco and Carnitas. I'm no expert in Mexican food, but, I think everything is a cross between authentic Mexican and popular food truck cuisine. Everybody was happy with their food. The price seemed a little high, but it is LA and the quality was very good.

Great food, no booze :(, but the finest pork rib taco I have ever encountered. Went here twice in three days!

I love finding small restaurants with delicious food. We found this place while exploring the ever changing Beverly Blvd. It is right next to CBS Television City and the Grove. I had a chicken taco and a pork rib taco plus elote (grilled sweet corn). The elote was not as tasty as I hoped. But the taco's were perfect for a small eater like me. I was with my hubby so we order chips & guacamole and the green goddess salad which was absolutely YUM! We ate there on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and the place was full. It has big tables which they use as community tables when there is a lot of customers. Note it is not a big restaurant but it has totally cool atmosphere and the service is good. It is a bit pricey at $4/taco (only the taco) but it was one of the tastiest tacos I ever had.

A friend treated me to one of her favorite places for lunch. "How would you like to have gourmet tacos, including a lobster taco?" she asked. They serve 2 mini tacos per order, so we split the order and had several kinds. I couldn't believe tacos with fresh Maine lobster, but they were $19.00 for two small tacos. The lobster was fine, but the cabbage slaw, chipotle crema and pico de gallo overpowered the lobster so that you could hardly taste it. We're not going to do that one again. We both liked the crispy skinned Branzino, with cabbage slaw and chipotle crema. Then we tried the Pork ribs taco... slow roasted natural baby back ribs, cabbage slaw and sweet chili sauce. THIS IS THE WINNER! We also tried the OG Hardshell - natural braised beef shank, lettuce, cheddar and salsa roja... good, but not crazy good, like the Pork Ribs! We decided that the next time we come (and there will definitely be a next time) we'll "pig out" with the Pork Rib tacos. We had rice and refried beans as well. The food is all natural with no artificial ingredients. WOW!

Excellent tacos and entrees with a flair in an intimate, appealing atmosphere. Guacamole was smooth and fresh with homemade tortilla chips. Carnitas and spicy langostino tacos with vegetarian pintos and fluffy rice were delicious! Alcohol is BYOB with juices and non-alcoholic drinks available.

I had a dinner at Escuela Taqueria and loved the whole experience. The staff was very friendly and gave us very nice suggestions. The food was just perfect. We had different types of tacos, but the most amazing thing was their guacamole which was probably the best I've ever tasted.

The food is MAGNIFICENT! I ordered pork tacos w/ roasted corn and it was one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had! The only couple of "catches" for the delicious food was that it's BYOB and we didn't realize until we were already seated on a rainy, busy Friday so we weren't going to leave and buy wine across the street as suggested by the waitress. It's also VERY tight in the restaurant. We were so close to the table next to us that I kept bumping elbows with the person seated next to me! Definitely not a place for private conversation!

There’s no beer or wine! We didn’t know that but didn’t stop us from coming in. We had the pork tacos and corn side. All delish. Don’t let the portions fool you it’s very filling! And you can’t beat the price. Service was a little slower than it should’ve been but won’t stop us from coming back. The acoustics in the venue make a loud crowd even louder which was a little disruptive to our meal. All in all a good experience!

Went early and had great meal. Guac was awesome. Chips were warm and way good. All peeps satiated, not stuffed, and smiling.
Great Tacos in Downtown Pasadena, just a little disorganized
Nice variety of tacos, some unusual combinations. But the staff, while friendly, seemed disorganized... five people in our party... three got their food almost immediately, two got theirs when we reminded the staff that more tacos had been ordered Hope they get it together, since place has potential
