We grabbed a quick dinner and some beer before a show. My husband got a flight and he enjoyed all but one of them. I had a "the painting was a gift, Todd". Nothing exciting, I've had better, I've had worse. I got the shells and cheese, it came with jalapenos. No seasoning whatsoever and it was watery. My husband got the 3 tacos combo. Very good sized tacos. Pulled pork taco had no seasoning, however the beef taco was almost too salty. Dunno what's going on there. Also no salt on the table so couldn't fix the lack of salt. Just because you can make decent beer doesn't mean that you should try to make food as well.

Again another outstanding craft brewer in Philadelphia In the Fishtown neighborhood it can look pretty sketchy heading there but it’s safe Nice and dark inside with a huge patio on the side of the building We enjoyed a flight of IPA, Mango IPA, Session IPA, Festbier, Mexican Lager….. all were delicious

Pros: beer is good, interesting variety, although a bit heavy on the IPA options Cons: food is basic, you need to order your drinks/food at a central spot at the bar, where you collect your drinks and have your food delivered to you when ready Warning: One of our ordered food items was not delivered after we placed our order at the bar and paid. We were told that we were not billed for it (not sure of that - paid cash) and that to order the missing tacos a credit card was necessary, which I gave to the waitress. We began eating and drinking what we had and eventually the tacos showed up. We ate those, talked and drank some more, and left about 90 minutes after we arrived. Only after returning home almost 3 hours away did I discover that the waitress never gave me back my credit card/had me sign for the taco order charge. I noted that I had received a square receipt by email, reflecting a charge placed at midnight (we left at 7 pm) - $6 for the tacos and a $2 tip! I immediately called Evil Genius that night and left a message for a call back. I then called during business hours the next day and again left a message. I also e-mailed. No response. Not good business practices. I wonder how many other customers have a 33% tip added to their bills without their knowledge? I also wonder the fate of my credit card (I cancelled the card once I realized I had left it and there were no additional charges.)

Great place! Food, Service and Atmosphere! Oh, and the beer is great too. Grab a flight ~ my favorite is Purple Monkey Dishwasher. Due to Covid, if you want to sit inside make sure you have your vaccine card or a pic of it and they card everyone. If you don't have your vaccine card, you're welcome to sit outside in their beer garden, so no worries there. (Outside seemed much quieter if you're looking to hold a conversation. I mean, inside it's a bar with music so it's much louder) The hostess was exceptional and we liked that we just needed to put our camera to the QR code (on the back of an old Blockbuster video holder) and we were able to order our food and pay for it right from our phone.

Loved the board games at tables! We went as a group in the later afternoon on a Saturday and the place was packed! It was very quick to get a drink though (great system that is efficient). I got a flight and we stood around for about 10 minutes before we could find a table. Only downside was that you need a table in order to enjoy your flight because you take one of the drinks and it throws the equilibrium off on the flight holder and other glasses spill!

I really wanted to like this place, but very disappointing. Beer had catchy names. The three people in my party all had flights of beers . The beer was just okay. The food was nothing special. We ordered a cheese platter and hummus . It was served with a few crackers, a small amount of celery and carrot strips and five thin slices of bread. We requested more bread, crackers and veggies. The waiter brought us three more carrot and celery sticks and three slices of bread. Since we were drinking and had a lot of hummus left, we asked for more veggies and to please give us some crackers. The waiter said it was against policy since we already had more. We wasted the rest of the hummus because we had nothing to eat it with. Also we mentioned to waiter that the driver felt tipsy and just wanted some crackers, but we were told it was not allowed. Are they kidding me!!!The waiter was not accommodating. He was rude and condescending making it a bad experience for us.

I've always been a fan of the beers, although I am an even bigger fan after my inaugural visit this past Saturday. I've never agreed with the too cool for school beer snob rap that they spend too much time coming up with great beer names and not enough time on the beer itself. I think that is a very unfair and undeserved reputation for the brewery. Saturday was their inaugural .5K charity race for MS, followed by a party for their one year anniversary of the tap room opening. Once around the block was the race, and a truly great time was had by all. Lots of fun! It was a lovely morning, and the beer list was impressive. They opened at 11am and the race was at noon, so there was plenty of time to "carb" up beforehand. Music was great, and the vibe was festive and fun. Over the course of the day I worked my way through much of the list, and I appreciated that they added brewery exclusives as stuff got finished as opposed to just throwing on the more normal stuff. I like the WE WERE ON A BREAK apricot milkshake IPA that I started off with - a decent take on the popular Tired Hands-style. The Just Tap It In and the The Files Are In The Computer, a vanilla dubbel, were both also worth tracking down. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, and my running buddy had the buffalo chicken dip. Very similar, actually, with the sandwich just being the pulled buffalo dip on a panini. Good sandwich, although I would be interested in trying some of the other general pub-esque menu items next time. I snagged a few other brewery exclusives in cans to bring home with me, along with my swag bag (2 free beers - one that day and the other good anytime, a water bottle, and participation trophy). Great brews, great crowd, great event for an even better cause. Stoked to get back, this time on a Friday or Saturday night for the evening. Thanks for a great time!

I enjoyed the setting and the beer. I had a flight of 5 beers and no complaints about any of them. The staff was very nice and helpful as it was my first time to Evil Genius. I would definitely go again.

My husband and I wanted to try local beers while visiting Philly with the family. The beer selection was great! We got a flight with 5- 5 oz. beers for $12. We had the nachos, mac n cheese, and the buffalo chicken grilled cheese - everything was delicious! We caught the football game on the big screens with a bunch of Eagles’ fans. Great experience overall.

Went here with my sister from the area and some coworkers and we had a great time! Stayed for a few hours enjoying flights and delicious tacos off the menu.

I've tasted quite a few of their beers and finally made it to the brewery/brewpub. Anyway, I enjoyed my tastings and quick bite here. It's kind of located outside the main hub of Philadelphia which is great as I cruised into a parking spot. The facility is a good size with plenty of seating, tables, couches, and board games. Outside is a tiny beer garden. There's a procedure to order, numbering your tastings on a card, and submitting to the bartender. I tried a flight, and my favorite is one of their signature beers, an IPA with guava. I'm not a big IPA fan, but they get this one right. The guava really balances the bitterness of the hops. The passionfruit sour was pretty good as well. I did not care for the seasonal, the spices were not to my liking. I also had a grilled cheese sandwich which was ok. Imho, the bread was a tad too thick for grilled cheese, and the cheese looked suspiciously like the kind of cheese that comes wrapped in plastic if you get my meaning. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected, but the sandwich was a bit underwhelming. They have other things on the menu such as chips and dip, etc. Since I was solo, I only had the sandwich. The staff was polite without being overly friendly, and you can buy beer to take home and swag. I'd visit again. I love the beers and their quirky names!

Evil Genius was a fun stop in which we highly enjoyed. We had the pleasure to speak with one of the owners which was very cool. The building is really big with a cool vibe. We were out in the courtyard making good conversation with the locals. This is a dog friendly stop. The beers were good and we would come back. Cheers !!!

I went with friends, for the first time, on a recent Saturday afternoon, and we enjoyed the visit. We sampled 12 beers, most of which were good and all of which had strange (dare I say stupid) names. I do wish they had more porters and stouts and fewer IPAs and fruity flavors, though, but that of course varies over time. Service was friendly and the clientele was a wide mix of people. The food didn't look too appealing, but we didn't have anything other than a pretzel, so I don't really know what it is like. The converted (garage? factory?) has a nice, lively feel with an industrial edge. There is also a large outdoor beer garden. A tour of the brewery was starting just as we were leaving, so we didn't get to do that.

This is one of the must hit spots when doing your rounds of local beer tasting. Hilarious names and a diverse list of brews along with their fun ordering system for custom tasting flights makes it always easy to try everything they are serving up. I wasn’t hungry when we arrived but all the food looked good so definitely next time. The space inside is very comfortable and airy so much better than some dark bar.

The joint yes joint is in Fishtown. It is an eclectic place with a great unique variety of beers made with fruit and such. Fun time

Husband and I made reservations three days before and arrived even a little early on Friday evening. The host attempted to seat us at a cask table soaking wet with the day's rain. We asked if we could sit under the canopy as we were expecting another person, and I gestured toward the picnic tables. No such luck. He sat us at another rain soaked cask table. Ugh. Really? THERE WERE FIVE PICNIC TABLES EMPTY. Whatever. The server came and took our drink and food orders. It was adequate. We called our third party and told him not to bother. We paid our bill and as we go to leave, I comment about how much I like the Purple Monkey Dishwasher Porter. The host then tells me they have a caramel porter as well. What? It wasn't even on the effen menu! We felt like our money wasn't appreciated there and because we are older, we were sat at a table away from people, like we were the crazy aunt destined to embarrass them. It felt like they were pawning off their most uncomfortable seats. The vibe was all wrong. Like they didn't want us there. Will not be returning anytime soon.

Liked it so much - great variety of different tastes - my favourite was Britney Bitch - lovely beer garden outside - relaxed staff

This place was a fun time. The bathrooms are a little gross at 8:30 on a Saturday but I felt like they did a good job. The tacos were really good. I thought the spicy spinach dip was too spicy but if you like cayenne pepper you might like it

Stopped here for a ..Fresh , Cold beer ! This is the spot....Brewery & Pub is located under the "EL" near Palmer st...street parking...in a rustic style converted Old recycled factory ( Big & very Nice )...on tap is their complete selection now being brewed & a couple of " Brew Pub Only ' styles and a " Firkin "! The crowd is well diversified & fun , they have Family style seating with tables , small high cocktail tables and line seating along all the wall .Light Pub food is served , and ALL the beer selections that available are written on the blackboard above the bar with their descriptions ,ABV and prices . TV and video games are free and the over stuffed chairs and sofas are Very comfortable. Plenty of restrooms are available for everyone...*** A great place for a few ...COLD ONES...!!!

EG is a nice local hangout and the atmosphere is outstanding. They have a great selection of beers and especially IPA’s to drink on site and to go. They have nice couches, Nintendo games, and outdoor games as well.

The website says available year round. We came for purple monkey dishwasher. They were out. We tried other beers. I'll have what she's having was good also but not as good as purple monkey dishwasher.

Nice brewery in Philadelphia with a good overall selection and vibe. We visited this brewery on city brew tours, and got to visit the backstage area. Would definitely visit again!

This building is really cool and they have a lot of beer on tap. There are games around like guess who, connect four, etc, so that’s always fun too. Great venue and we would definitely return.

Place isn’t very big so it gets full. Beer is good and has funny names and interesting combinations. Food looked really good but I didn’t eat.

I think this place is wonderful! It does get very crowded and therefore can get loud but I think that’s only due to lack of places like this in Philadelphia. The food is good and the drinks are always rotating. I am allergic to hops so I get the cider and think it’s delicious. However the couples we went with for the sampler and a few others and raved about how different all the beers are!

Evil Genius prides itself on being fun! The bar has an inside area (per city rules, patrons currently must demonstrate COVID-19 vaccinated to sit inside) and a lively patio that we did not visit. We were just there for one pre-dinner drink and chose to sit at the bar. You use a QR code on an old Blockbusters box to browse the menu, order, and pay (it’s linked to an app), then the drinks are brought to you, not by the bartenders (who never spoke to us), but by a server. There are lots of beers with fun names to choose from. Given the contactless ordering, this is a great place for a single drink. Given that there was no interaction with the bartender, it might not be a great place for solo drinkers looking to chat.

We have had this beer at different events. It is consistent and a really awesome selection. Huge bar area with plenty of seating.

We went here and loved the atmosphere. The staff was very nice, and the beer was good. We got a flight for $12 and got to try 5 different beers. We found a couple we liked and will be back to try more!

Evil Genius has very good beers and the "The Lab" is a great place to try whatever they are offering at the given moment. The space is large, but this place can get packed. I'd recommend getting there early to get a decent seat. There is also a large outdoor beer garden, which is amazing with the right weather.

Full disclosure: I am not a beer-drinker, but I love this place. The variety of hoppy beverages is large, and so there really is something to please all in your party—the connoisseurs and the novices. The tongue-in-cheek naming of the brews adds to the fun. The interior of the place is cool, with very hip vibe both inside and on the terrace outside. This is a great neighborhood place in an increasingly vibrant neighborhood.

A sun umbrella and barrel plus empty beer glasses fell on my wife and I who were sitting in their plastic adirondack chairs (in their beer garden). Luckily I was able to deflect it, so no harm. The issue I have is that we found out from staff (who took too long to come over and clean it up) that the umbrella and barrel had already fallen over earlier that day... this is negligence. We informed the manager who did not show interest. There are young children/babies walking around outside by those barrels and umbrellas... the lack of concern to solve a known safety hazard constitutes the 1 star.

We had a great experience at Evil Genius celebrating my husband’s birthday. The staff was super friendly and attentive even when they got busy. We did the tour which I recommend if you are there Saturday at 2. Very fun and informative and definitely makes you feel good about drinking their beer and supporting their business. The food we ordered came fast and was delicious. I read a lot of comments about their food being sub par so i am guessing they listened because the beef tacos were a large portion and very flavorful and I was a little worried about ordering a Caprese sandwich inJanuary but the tomatoes and sandwich were excellent. I’d love their pesto recipe! Now on to the beers. We are home brewers and can get a little picky. We did two flights of tastings, 10 beers. There were at least 5 that we could sit and drink. And while we didn’t like all of them, because we are not big on IPA’s, we could definitely appreciate them with good flavor and robust hop profiles. We will definitely go back and keep buying their beer at our local store in Delaware.
Amazing, pleasant place with great beer and outdoor cafe
My favorite microbrewery with beers with really cool names. Try Purple Monkey Dishwasher! The food is good but not the feature -- the beer and hard seltzer is special!
