Always Tasty, Seasonal, & Fresh

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Although we usually go to this art gallery & café for lunch, this time we enjoyed their home-cooked dinner buffet with 4 eggplant dishes (each prepared differently) in addition to their usual chicken, gyro, meatballs, and vegetable dishes. Thus, both vegetarians and carnivores have many choices to feast on; vegetable dishes vary seasonally. Both the garlicy mashed potatoes in the salad section and the lemony chicken rice soup transport me immediately back into the warm Mediterranean. Do enjoy!

Tasty

This is a great lunch spot. The food is excellent. I always leave full and happy. At lunchtime you can either get the buffet or order off the menu.

Part of the family

By Donster2147 |

Fairouz is an incredible, eclectic, delicious combination of foods and dishes from the Mediterranean - especially Arabic and Greek. Over the years we've come to see Ibrahim al-Nashashibi and his family as much more than local business owners and when we walk in we are always greeted not just as friends, but as part of that family. The atmosphere is warm and familiar, the gallery is spectacular and the food is fabulous. My wife is vegan and she has more to choose from than almost anywhere in town. If you're not visiting this gem you are denying yourself.

Great find

By Alagria |

This small but friendly restaurant serves delicious mid-eastern dishes. Even though located in a strip mall in the busy Rosecrans area, the food is carefully made and cheerfully served. The wait staff are long term, and the owner is nearly always there with a gracious greeting. Better yet, the owner is an artist and restaurant walls are filled with intricate and unique art. Well worth visiting - frequently if you are like us.

Bad food

By Yazan H |

Avoid this place please. The food quality is bad along with outrageous prices.I'm from middle east and will give an honest review. The owner is from middle east but has no idea what true middle eastern food is. We tried several items that really tasted bad. The hummus, falafel and tahini (not true tahini by the way) are all tasteless. Avoid their soups and salad. Finally, it took forever to have the order ready even though the place was completely empty. When the food arrived, it tasted bad, the beef kabab was like rubber and the chicken tawook was with no test. I doubt this was cooked on charcoal as stated in the menu. We immediately left the place after few bites. To make it worse, the prices were outrageous for the quality. The owner is a really nice guy but unfortunately their food is terrible.

Family owned and operated for 25 years. Very friendly and welcoming. They carry Almaza beer (+).

Great Middle Eastern/Greek Restaurant

By C_n_H_Pure |

I love Fairouz. It is great Middle Eastern/Greek food. I've only ever lunch there, but it is just terrific. It isn't classic Greek since I think Al, the owner is Lebanese, but the differences between much of the food of the Mediterranean is negligable. They don't have some Greek dishes like saganaki and dolomathies, but the lamb dishes are great, so are the gyros and kabobs in general. Besides the food, the service couldn't be better. Your first visit they are friendly, your second visit you are family, such warmth. It gets five stars because overall I love this place. PS, there is nothing wrong with the neighborhood. I was a bit puzzled by that comment from another poster.

My favorite restaurant in the world!

By anjiwill |

I have been to 51 countries-- and I LIVE to come to to Fairouz! Love the vegetarian buffet for lunch! Delicious!

Always good, always tasty, always friendly

By Richard L |

I have been coming here with my husband for many years, and for us to keep coming back must mean that the place is extremely good. Not only is the food tasty and extremely well prepared but the staff really care about you. You come away feeling more like friends and family than customers. The buffet is very good value and has a wide selection. You can try out new flavors and come back to old favorites. In the evening the lamb shank is well worth the visit. What other buffet do you know that serves quality lamb shank? Don't forget the artwork on the walls and the photos of a wonderful family who have worked for peace in our troubled world.

A 20 Year Culinary Love Affair

By Mr Terry |

Nearly two decades ago I was employed at a firm with offices a few blocks North of the Fairouz Restaurant. The Fairouz quickly became my favorite lunch spot of all. The buffet line has 30 or more authentically prepared, mouthwatering dishes that together define THE BEST Middle-Eastern dining venue in San Diego by far. I am constantly amazed at the quality and enduring consistency of flavor in the buffet line which has changed little over the years. Although I go strictly to enjoy the food, owner and prolific artist Ibrahim Al Nashashaibi's fabulous artworks adorn the dining rooms creating a unique, complimentary and culturally-focused backdrop to your dining experience. Go once and you are certain to return; no question.

A very unexpected experience

By herbdwyer1 |

This restaurant located in a strip mall setting, has a cafe like interior and is comnbined with an art gallery of paintings by the owner (which are unusually good). We eat out regularly, about 5-6 times per week, and think of ourselves as experts on all kinds of foods and service. The service here was extrodinary (they made us feel like family), the food among the very best we have ever had, the selection, middle eastern, was prepared perfectly and fresh. They had both a buffet (which I sampled frequently, and a menu which my wife and daughter ordered from. Everything was peefect). We are GOING BACK!

seems authentic, great selections on buffet

By mynahbird1 |

Cute restaurant/gallery? I love that restaurants have been displaying arts and crafts, it makes for good conversation. The buffet is $13.99, more than I wanted to pay for a quick bite but a salad was $10.99 so I went for it. Interesting selections, salads, desserts. The lemon chicken soup was good, but I've had better. Lots of the usual mediterranean selections, and some I've never had. Mousaka was weird. 6 desserts to choose from, coconut carrot salad was ok, rose water rice pudding was interesting. If you've never had middle eastern food, this is a good place to sample it. Friendly staff.

Tastebud and Eye Feast

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

This family run cafe and art gallery features a home cooked buffet of Mid-Eastern food; you can also order off of the menu. Although some of the vegetable dishes change by the season, my favorite lemon chicken soup, meatballs, Kofta, moussaka, and carrot/coconut dessert are always available as is a bottomless bowl of warm pita bread. The plain exterior belies the warm, homey interior where one of the brothers displays his artwork and has a studio in the rear. What a feast for one's taste buds and eyes!

Vegan Heaven

By Lisa L |

I can't recall a buffet that offers 10-15 vegan dishes. I've enjoyed them all. Their food is fresh and delicious. Some of my favorites: the carrot salad with coconut, garbanzo beans, hummus, lentil soup, eggplant stew, beet salad. There was even a chocolate pudding dessert. The service is prompt and efficient. I also love the artwork on the walls and poetry under the glass table top. Keep your eyes peeled for the pictures of the winner of the Peter Sellers look alike contest. Whenever we visit San Diego we make of point of visiting Fariouz Cafe'.

I go here often

By john g |

This place has been around for over 30 years serving Middle Eastern and Greek foods. I have never been disappointed here. I order off the menu, but they always have a buffet going. It has a very nice Art gallery of the owners work.

Yummm.....

By Bambi O |

Just live the family that own this place. They are friendly, spectacular service and food is great. Feels like they have known me forever, and this was my first time here.

Not cheap but good food

By Cubecritter |

Quality food and lots and lots of variety. Not cheap at $16 for buffet but you will be happy you came. Favorites include gyro, rice, avogolemno soup, pickled cabbage, pickled turnips, rosemary water dessert. Yum. Awesome photos of horses in restroom lol.

Art + Food = Wow

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

This neighborhood favorite of mine is tucked away in a strip mall that's nestled against the larger Target/Ralph/Gap/Home Depot complex. But don't let the small parking lot and tight spaces deter you from a visual and gartronomic delight. Alnashashibi and family cooks up a Mediterranean buffet of tasty dishes that fits both vegan and meat eaters; a regular menu is available as well as many Greek wines including ouzo and Retsina. Your meal is accompanied by a bottomless bowl of pita bread, and you are surrounded by original paintings by Alnashashibi that are for sale. Although the buffet price has increased for lunch since my last visit about 1 year ago (never again will I wait so long), the dessert selection now includes 5 items -- honey cake, rice pudding with rose water, and bulger with honey and raisins (the red one in the photo), chocolate pudding, and carrot/coconut mixture. To sweeten the deal, with a lunch card marked 6 times/meals, then the 7th one is complimentary.

Always Good & Homey

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

This family owned and operated café doubles as a art gallery and radiates a warm, friendly ambiance. You can order from the menu, indulge in the buffet that includes new items (quinoa in Sept. 2018), or take away food. For a filling Mid-Eastern meal in a warm friendly environment, Fairouz is our neighborhood place to go. They also have a birthday club and a punch card or a free meal after eating there six times. Although parking in this strip mall is limited, I've always found a place.

Very friendly staff and beautiful paintings displayed throughout

By maringfro |

This restaurant is unique due to the beautiful paintings done by the owner which are on all the walls. They are for sale. They have a nice all-you-can-eat buffet or you can order from the menu. I ordered the moussaka. It was okay, not great.

Hidden Gem

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Fairouz Restaurant and Gallery defies its location in a strip mall on Midway. Within you're warmly welcomed into this family-run art-laden café that has an endless buffet of Mediterranean goodies that makes any vegetable lover's heart happy. On some special days they also offer a three course menu at a set price. In December we enjoyed a 3 course meal with a variety of starters (lebni and freshly made spinach or meat pies were my favorites), a main choice -- ours was a generous leg of lamb --, and homemade heavenly baklava (not too much honey so you could enjoy the flaky pastry) for the perfect ending.

fresh, homemade Middle Eastern food

By njfamilytravel |

We found this place randomly on TripAdvisor after a long, wet day at Sea World. It's a shirt drive from the park, quite inconspicuous in a cookie cutter strip mall.... but the food is great. we ordered greek salad, hummus and falafel - all fresh, nicely prepared and delicious. there were endless bowls of warms, chewy pita. I also ordered a nice glass of Lebanese beer. My family and I are vegetarian so our choices are limited. this place fit the bill. we opted to order from the menu rather than the buffet. the service was great, the portions were enormous and the prices were ridiculously reasonable (especially after a day of theme park prices). All in all, a real gem.

Hospitality from the Heart

By Julie G |

This wonderful eatery has been in San Diego for over 30 years, but my husband and I just found it! How sad that we have missed out for so many years. The place is very warm and inviting. We were well taken care of by Sammy Alnashashibi. He was so friendly and interesting to talk to. He welcomed us as if we were longtime friends. My husband enjoyed the dinner buffet that night. He loved the many vegetarian dishes that were offered. I started with the Greek chicken lemon soup and continued with the lamb kafta. Everything was beautifully plated and so delicious! After my meal, I enjoyed walking around the restaurant looking at the artwork of Ibrahim Alnashashibi. This place was not only a feast for your taste buds but also for your eyes. Thank you so much Sammy for your hospitality and for the wonderful experience. We will definitely be returning.

Wonderful Find! Probably best buffet in San Diego

By penderguide |

We were more than pleasantly surprised by the Mediterranean spread at the Fairouz buffet ($13 lunch $16 dinner, beverages extra, menu also available). As a meat lover I appreciated the large lovely lamb shanks, two chicken choices, and gyro meat from which I made a small sandwich with pita bread and tzatziki. However, the veggie dishes were so well prepared and interestingly spiced that I could easily become a vegetarian eating like this, and many were even vegan. I don't know where to begin, the creamy moussaka, the unique garlic mashed potatoes, the amazing eggplant, the perfect carrots, the out of this world mac salad, etc etc! Deserts had interesting flavors, including carrot coconut salad, cinnamon beans, and a soaked cake (no baklava though). The only problem with this buffet is that everything is so good that one tends to overeat! The owner and (I assume) wife/chef were very friendly and welcoming and their handsome server very eager, cordial, and on top of things, especially with water refills and removing plates. The gallery/paintings on the wall added to the ambience. It can be a bit tricky to find - it's in a strip mall just past the Taco Bell on the right if heading west on Midway past Rosecrans in the not so scenic Midway commercial district, but who needs scenery with food like this. We will be back.... soon!

Amazing owners and delicious food

By John K |

I don't why all these past years that I visited San Diego, I never discovered this place. The owners are very welcoming people and make you feel as if you're dining at their home. The food is so delicious that I wouldn't recommend you coming here if you're on a diet. The lamb shank is to die for. The Gyro is amazing and you also have a wide array of salads to choose from. The price is very decent for what you get

Boutique Restaurant with Authentic Mediterranean Cuisine

By Deborah B |

This quaint restaurant sits in a small strip mall on busy Midway Drive. Do not let that deter you! This is a gem for many reasons. It is family owned and operated. The owners are a husband and wife team. They are always there to greet you, seat you, serve you and the wife does all of the cooking. The menu is diverse offering all of the classics and more. Middle Eastern, Lebanese, Greek, with Vegitarean and Gluten free options. The buffet is AMAZING. Mrs. Al Nashashibi will walk you through it dish by dish with pride! Mr. Al Nashashibi is a poet and artist. His artwork adorns the walls. His poetry is under the table top glass. Wine and beer are served along with typical American soft drinks and some Mediterranean delights as well. The wine list includes wines from Lebanon and Greece (glass or bottle). Typically, you do not need reservations.

Awesome Mediterranean Restaurant

By aatl2 |

Fairouz is a family owned and operated mediterranean restaurant/gallery. We had the lunch buffet which was very tasty/flavorful and reasonably priced. It consisted of food items (including desserts) for meat eaters and vegetarians. They had the best lemonade ever. The customer service is also great. There are cool jewelry and decor items for purchase displayed in the dining area; they made for nice converstaion pieces over lunch. If you are in the market for a different dining experience, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I tried some food items for the first time and others I had before, but they were prepared differently and had a different taste. Me and my husband enjoyed everything we ate. Bon appetit!

Dont let the strip mall fool you!

By Mexikinda |

We ate here recently. Although located in a strip mall, the food, service & ambience was outstanding. A buffet is available but we opted for soup & salad. 2 of us had the greek salad. The salad was fresh, made with cukes tomatoes, olives & feta. The dressing was made from scratch and really great. We also had some Avgolemono soup, which was also really good. My wife had a Fattoush salad that she loved. Our server was the owners nephew. I always appreciate it when the owners family is working the floor. He was very helpful and attentive. In addition, he told us how to make the Fattoush dressing! Food was prompt, fresh and the soup was hot. In addition to being a family restaurant, it also serves as the owners art gallery. While I didn't love every piece on the wall, there were a lot of different styles. It made for a very cool atmosphere. If you are in the mood for fresh, well made Med food at a decent price, check this place out.

Always Good & Fun

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Despite its location in a small strip mall on busy Midway, Fairouz consistently serves home-cooked mid-Eastern food in this family owned and run restaurant. You can order from the menu or enjoy the buffet in this art-laden gallery where 1 of the 3 elders works and hosts. The lemon chicken soup always delights my palate and is as good as any I've had in Greece. Vegan dishes and takeout is available. After ordering a bottomless basket of pita appears with your drinks. Also, after 6 meals, you get a free meal using their punch card system. Don't wait to become a regular at Fairouz to enjoy consistently good meals in a family-friendly, laidback atmosphere.

Like Home Cooking

By peter m |

We went on a Saturday nite and were promptly greeted and seated by the owner, quite welcoming, we were with folks who recommended the buffet so we went with that. A large selection of items all Tasty, The Soups ,chicken or lentil needed a touch of salt but that can be remedied at the table. I enjoyed Lamb shank, garlic/lemon chicken, many vegetable options, nice pickled root item. Its location in a strip mall in the midway district can put you off but the food is good. I enjoyed an okra dish- anybody that knows okra, if its not fresh it gets, well lets say, less desirable. This was cooked, delicious okra. Tried their retsina wine- goes excellent with the unique spicing.

Love this resturant - have been eating here for many years

By harlequin |

We found this restaurant many years ago, cannot count all the times we have eaten here! We have never had a bad meal or experience here & we have recommended it to many friends who have all said they too had a great meal here. We visit this restaurant when ever we can & are in San Diego. The best Hummus i have had anywhere in the world! Sometimes we order from the menu, sometimes do the buffet, both are always excellent & offer a selection for vegetarians & meat eaters. The owner Mr. Al Nashashibi is most welcoming & an internationally acclaimed artist, his work is on display at the restaurant. Al Nashashibi & his family run the resturant & are always friendly & make you feel like part of the family. Writing this review is making my mouth water, by just thinking about the restaurant & delicious mediterannean food :-) Can't wait to return!

My favorite spot

By CCECH2014 |

Been going here since I was a kid and make a point to visit whenever I am home. Has the best chicken lemon soup and fresh lemonade with rose water. Love all the food I've tried. Has a great meat/ veggie buffet too. Great spot for family dining or couples. Before I leave I always check out the artwork too. Family run and they are amazing.

Great lunch spot!

By Massdane |

We ate lunch at Fairouz on a recent trip to San Diego. It's located in a strip mall so didn't look like much, but what a great buffet! I'm vegetarian so it's always nice to find restaurants with those options. Although all the food was great, I've got to admit I was most partial to the cold dishes like the hummus, tabouli and greek salads (along with that warm and yummy pita bread). They were all outstanding! The atmosphere was fun with the owner's artwork decorating the walls. The service was excellent. The buffet was reasonably priced. All in all, a nice little lunch spot!

35 years of home-cooked meals

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

For a home-cooked meal (either an endless buffet or from the menu) of Mideastern food made as the cook's mother did, go to Fairouz Café that is a family owned and operated. With many choices a vegan can get a vegetable laden meal here, and sometimes everyone can indulge in special treats, such as homemade olives from a friend's trees. In addition to a delicious meal you are surrounded by art work done by one of the owners who's also a writer and always willing to talk up his work or life in the Mideast.

I love this place

By Alon1Advisor |

I always come at lunchtime and have the lunch buffet. Food is very good and healthy. Owner is a real character, always encouraging you to eat more. Owner's brother is an artist. His drawings are part of the restaurant's decoration. If you are familiar with middle eastern food, or unfamiliar - You would love it. 3 of us paid (with tax) $52.87. We had 3 buffets and i believe 2 beers.

Nice halal middle east restaurant

We came here by chance looking for hala restaurant in San Diego. It was nice tine in this restaurant with very welcome and generous service from all staff and owner of restaurant. Halal food and good choice for vegan and vegetarian too. It is Palestine restaurant with beautiful art gallery.

Great family restaurant

We live in calgary, canada. We had a trip to san diego for vacation. The neighborhood is not that good but the restaurant and the food were very good. The owner(Samie) is verg charming person.

Looks Deceive

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Looks really deceive as this family run Mediterranean restaurant/art gallery is a gem admist a strip mall. The only clue to the warm welcome and the exceptional home cooking are the stone pillars outside. Sammy makes a delicate, delicious baklava that melts in your mouth. Recently they are featuring a special menu for holidays, such as Mothers Day, Valentines, in addition to their regular buffet. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy a home cooked meal with endless pita, rosewater or mint tea and art work depicting the family's roots in Jerusalem.

Delicious!

By JulieBaltimore |

We enjoyed Fairouz Cafe on a visit to San Diego. We found it in a small shopping area next to a Taco Bell. We were looking for another restaurant and stumbled on this buffet. We liked the buffet, as we could sample many different things, after seeing them. It was a good value, at $14 for all you can eat including soup , middle eastern salads and spreads, meat and vegetarian main dishes and desserts. Wine or beer are reasonable. Casual setting but art on the walls makes an interesting feel.

The best mediterranean food In san diego.

By Haloman99 |

When you first walk in side The resturant, You will be Greeted by the Host! and that very first Moment you will feel like this is your home! and you will be treated like a family, enjoy all the food are just authentic home made. Everybody I took with me here at Fairouz just loved it,

Art + Home Cooking = Fun

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Fairouz is still my go to place for MidEastern food (I've lived and worked in both Greece and Egypt). In addition to the lunch and dinner all you can eat buffet (my favorite) there's a full menu that includes another favorite -- Retsina, the resin spiced Greek wine. You are surrounded by original art work by one of the elders as the entire multi-generational family participates; there are also notecards, books, and jewelry for sale. The only downside is small, limited parking spaces in this strip mall.

Fairouz is back & better

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

Although Fairouz no longer serves an endless buffet, the matriarch still cooks and other family members serve, chat and welcome neighbors back. You can still order take-out or enjoy dining in the new remodeled space that still is graced with original art works by one of the owners. For a taste of the hospitality and food of the Mid-East without leaving San Diego, head over to this cafe on Midway Dr. in Pt. Loma.

Great Find

By luvtotrvl58 |

While in San Diego area, decided to go out to lunch using an Entertainment Coupon. We were in the mood for Eastern/Medit. We never used the coupon after looking at the Lunch Buffet (coupon was for entrees). Sooo many choices and the ones I had were all very good. Lots of choices for Vegans too. I'm sure we will be back someday with friends.

Excellent Food in a Wonderful Art Gallery Environment!

By cwkim2 |

My wife and I have dined at Fairouz for years. The food is consistently good and the service attentive. The buffet is great, offering a good variety of tasty dishes. The dining environment is very nice, since you are essentially dining in an art gallery. It's a good place for a quiet dinner or a date. I would not bring unruly children though. I happen to really enjoy Middle Eastern foods, and Fairouz will not disappoint. One has the option of purchasing some of the artwork on the walls, which has it's own interesting appeal. The owner is gracious and has a fascinating background, so if you have the opportunity, by all means chat with him.

Wow for the taste buds!

By P C |

We stumbled on this delightful restaurant! We enjoyed the many coursed vegetarian dinner of the day and every bite was delightful.

Family Fare

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

How can you resist eating a home cooked family meal of Mid-Eastern favorites amidst art work? Although Fairouz is nestled in a non-descript strip mall on Midway, you're immediately welcomed by tantalizing aromas from the long buffet in the entry dining area. Mama is the chef, daughter or dad is the greeter/waiter, and Uncle Al is the artist. What is absolutely wonderful about this cafe is the consistency for almost 20 years and the homey atmosphere of this neighborhood spot. Many clients return as there's a free meal after you've eaten six lunches or dinners. I could feast alone on the warm pita and lemon chicken rice soup. For a truly unique, warm, memorable dining experience, go to Fairouz Restaurant.

Local but global

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

The only disadvantage of this neighborhood restaurant is it's location on a busy street and in a small strip mall. Thus, the only view is of parked cars in small spaces. But inside you step into another world of warm pita bread and delicious home cooked Mid-east food served buffet style ($13.95 for lunch) or from the menu (try the lemon chicken soup that's divine). You can savor a Greek wine, such as retsina, or sip a potent cup of Turkish coffee amidst art work of the owner that can transport you into another world. The buffet includes a number of vegan dishes, saffron chicken, beef, lamb, stews, an array of salads, and multiple desserts. In addition to the old favorites, there's usually something new added and today it was the garlic mashed potatoes. For a quick escape from the din of busy Rosecrans, enjoy lunch or dinner at Fairouz Restaurant and Gallery.

One of the highlights of our trip.

By Wolfgangamadeusmarco |

This place was recommended to us by my sister-in-law was many years ago at the Coast Guard in San Diego. Not only the food was excellent... we had an excellent evening talking to the Mr. Al Nashashibi... Poet, Painter, Lawyer... a multi-talent gentleman... probably the most interesting man in San Diego... and his brother Sami who looks more like the twin brother of Peter Sellers... highly recommend this place if you go to San Diego specially if you like Middle Eastern food.

Very disappointing

By catatthebeach |

I felt like Greek food and like a buffet. I found reviews of Fairouz and they were, for the most part, glowing. So I took my 16 year old daughter and off we went. I wanted to introduce her to Greek dishes. I planned on enjoying a little of everything. What a mistake. I should have known when I first arrived not to stay. A homeless man in the parking lot accosted us wanting money to clean my car's windshield. That is not the restaurant's fault so I overlooked it. But it does tell you the quality of the neighborhood where Fairouz is located. I ignored the second warning sign also - that being that there were only two tables occupied at the prime dinner hour of 7PM on a Friday night. But we had driven a long way so I ignored this warning also. Suffice it to say that the experience was not good. The lemon soup was overwhelmingly starchy and not tart. Both the lamb meatballs and the gyros meat were flavorless. Ditto for the eggplant dishes - which I really was looking forward to. The desserts - sad examples - all went sampled and ignored by both my daughter and I. Best item was the tzatziki. Pita bread dipped in that was heavenly. But a dip does not a meal make. Service on removing our dirty plates was prompt. Every time we got up they came and took them. But I felt embarrassed because of the uneaten food left on the plates. Since nothing was good I kept giving up and going back to the buffet line hoping to find something worth eating All in all I have to suggest you should just stay away from this place. It is not even worth a try.

Authentic of course

By Lori fremo |

Delicious, I have lived in the Middle East. I have tasted many foods. For 32 years, so I know good authentic foods, enjoy this place. Every cook is different, some good some not everywhere. The buffet will give you a good sample don’t believe someone who says this is not the real deal. Try everything

Delicious cuisine no matter when you choose to dine.

By Leonard K |

A long time favorite of ours is Fairouz Restaurant and Gallery. It focuses primarily on Greek and Lebanese food and no matter when you dine, for lunch or for dinner, you will always come away feeling like a winner. We have patronized this restaurant for many years and do not hesitate to recommend it. The restaurant is conveniently located just off Point Loma’s Midway Drive in San Diego and is tucked away neatly in a tiny shopping mall. Should you be so inclined, check out his art that adorns the walls. Many of these exquisite pieces are for sale. A popular dining choice is the buffet which consists of a very large number of well prepared dishes. Let me assure you that each dish is prepared to perfection. Most dishes lean toward the vegetarian end of the spectrum but serious meat lovers will be delighted by their savory meatballs, gyros, kabobs and other meat dishes.

Favorite Go-to for Home Cooking

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

For a warm welcome, great mid-Eastern food cooked by mama in the kitchen, and art laden interior, check out the buffet at this local café located in a strip mall. This is one of the few places in San Diego where you can get a glass of retsina. The baklava is also homemade, light and sinfully delicious. So do "enjoy" as the friendly folks at Fairouz remind you.

Taste for the Eyes & Mouth

By GlobalGypsy_13 |

We always enjoy going to Fairouz for their lunch buffet. Not only do we find new choices in the home-cooked buffet but we're surrounded by the work of the artist/owner. A vegetarian will find many choices while a carnivore can feast on the chicken, meatballs, & gyro. I love the lemony chicken rice soup that transport me immediately back into Greece and the warm Mediterranean.

We eat here at least once every month

By spyyyyyke |

This is our very favorite restaurant in San Diego! I've never seen anything quite like this. The Middle Eastern food is extraordinary and surprisingly inexpensive. Simple ingredients, simple preparation, and deliciously flavored. About half the dishes are vegetarian and most of those are vegan, so pretty much anyone can eat here. We always eat from the buffet because we love the variety. The service is attentive and personal. And the art on the walls is fabulous. My husband and I found this restaurant about ten years ago. Since then, we've eaten here once or more per month and have taken every single house guest here. Our last guest said he hated Greek food but gave this a try anyway. He raved about it and wanted to go back. Over the years, I've bought four of the art prints, all of which are done by the owner. Intricate work and vibrant colors. Very highly recommended!

They sent me as a scout. "Find good Lebanese Food" Mission Successful!

By Richy624 |

Of course I always write from a Vegetarian perspective. The Buffet was $13.99.. a bit pricey for a buffet, but oh, what a buffet. So, if you are hungry, probably worth it. Everything imaginable. I was here for takeout, so I only sampled the Lentil Soup to see, that it was done right, but while waiting, I looked at all the things they had. They label food as Vegan, or Vegetarian (meaning to them eggs are OK, although I don't agree with that nomenclature). However it's good to know what they mean by it. We had Falafel Sandwich, and at $5.95 was very happy with the portion. They roll the sandwich, Greek style, instead of stuffing an opened pocket...I like the pocket... but VERY fresh bread, and plenty of quantity. The falafel was chickpea only rather than chickpea and fava, but I prefer that. Everything was correctly seasoned. Fattoush was perfectly done, and so was Tabouli. Good quantities on both for the price. If you are coming for a quick lunch, have the falafel sandwich and call it done. All but the most aggressive eaters will be satisfied, and many lighter eaters won't be able to finish. Since I spent 2 years living with a Lebanese family, and the grandmother taught me to cook, I "grew up" with lentil soup every lunch. I didn't try the hummous or other things on the buffet, but I looked at it all, and it all looked correct to me. The décor is spacious, and has a darker back room with some large tables, so I wouldn't hesitate to bring a business lunch here. If you are vegan or vegetarian you will find a LOT to love coming here, and the owner and cook are accessible, and very knowledgable about the food, its preparation, and ingredients. As I waited for my take out, a lot of regulars streamed in. I'm happy to have my San Diego Lebanese Restaurant dialed in..

HEARTWARMING

By DanielBadran |

Where to begin is the challenge here ... what to praise first is the issue ... but let's give it a shot: 1- Service with heart 2- Food from the soul 3- Simplicity that humbles the meek Fairouz hits the note on everything a home grown restaurant should be. This is Middle Eastern, with the right touch of the old country, done right!

Delicious food, quiet atmosphere

I've only been here close to closing, and the food was still great and it was pretty quiet. The owners are super friendly and nice. The selection of food is great, and the price is great, too.

Amazing place, especially vegan and veggie friendly.

This place is an experience. It hits the spot. A young girl behind us said the food was "happy". To be sure, the brothers who run the place are so kind and the art is inspiring. If you are interested in eating vegan or vegetarian, you'll find plenty, all clearly labeled. The buffet will fill up the heartiest of appetites. I see why many call this their favorite SD restaurant.

Outstanding tasty food

Wow, dropped by Charkbait next door to grab my new Avet fusing reel, was hungry and bumped into Fairouz. Found in a small strip mall, buffet style, so fresh, tasty and delicious. A very clean and friendly place. Worth the drive from Dana Point!! Yum

Exceptional Lebanese food

Anyone who likes Middle Eastern food needs to come to Fairouz. The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 star is it homey rather than white tablecloth. If you are starved, the all you can eat buffet is amazing. For those with a normal appetite, the lemon chicken soup, hummus and chicken tajeen will make your belly very happy. For dessert have the baklava. And finally, your pocketbook will also be happy.

Perfection.

Fairouz is soooo delicious and here's why - they cook from their heart and soul. The food is authentic and flavorful. My favorite dish is the lemon soup. I moved to NYC 7 years ago and can still remember the flavor profile of this family owned restaurant. When I come home this summer, I will definitely be eating here. #foodfromheaven Ps: hired them to cater a party and the food was plentiful and had all my guests drooling!

Huge, fresh cooked buffet, all prepared in house

By TWF |

What a buffet! Every dish and sauce is terrific. When we were there for lunch there were three terrific chicken dishes, spicy meatballs and gyros. They offer more vegetarian dishes than you can name. For example, they offer three different cabbage dishes, all of them very different in texture and taste. Two soups. The Avegolemono is a solid "A." The lentil soup is a good "B." Even the side dishes and sauces are made in-house. You could dine here 20 times and put together a different menu each time. The same family has operated the restaurant in the same location for 30 years. The wait staff is very friendly. You're likely to meet the owners and the cook serving and clearing. Definitely try this restaurant.

Delicious, I have to get back there again!!

Highly recommended, everything tasted fresh and well made and many options especially for myself who is diabetic and cannot eat at most restaurants because they are 90 percent carbs.

Very homey place with so...

Very homey place with so much spirit and attitude. The owner is the painter of all those hangings which transport you to a different world. Very nice Israeli food (mediterranean) offered as a buffet.

Friendly owner, delicious food, good portions, artistic decor

The owner is a friendly soul who will share his poetry and artwork with you if you want. The art within the restaurant is worth a look. There are also generous portions of very tasty food. Would love to go back.
