Wonderful dinner at this little neighborhood place

By gpgottlieb |

Excellent service from the minute we walked in - good choices of beer and wine and you can sit outside if it's not too humid and hot (welcome to Chicago). Four of us shared 2 appetizers and 3 entrees - there were several yummy vegetarian and fish offerings. Loved the veggie burger and the salmon. Generous portions, not crazy expensive, mostly salvaged materials used to build the place on a quiet residential corner, and you won't be jostled by tourists. Fun to walk over if you live in the hood, but make a reservation because it books up.

Great Neighborhood Find - Worth a Trip Too

By dlscps |

Great, cozy corner spot in Lakeview for a meal with friends, a drink or both! We happened upon the Farm Bar after some comedy at Chicago 773 on Belmont. What a terrific find. Nice neighborhood bar/restaurant feel. Comfortable decor, a bit noisy on a Saturday night but not overwhelming. While there are plenty of regional libations (think beer, not wine), the Farm Bar also has a great cocktail menu. Both of our drinks were made with skill and very tasty. The dinner menu has a variety of snacks and main courses, including burgers and main dishes. Our group tried the vegetable flatbread, the house made veggie burger and the pan roasted whitefish sandwich. All of our meals were served hot and terrific. The fries, btw, have a smoky salt taste which pleasantly surprised us. Hit the spot after an evening show. Friendly and prompt service. If I were in the 'hood, I'd be a regular.

Brilliant service

By Justine1969 |

We would give this place a 5* if it was just a review of the barman on duty. He was brilliant, friendly, attentive and knowledgable about the food and particularly the beer. The food is not to this standard. It’s good for sure. We had the steak frites and the steak was a tad overdone and the fries were OK. Could have been hotter and crispier. Service was quick. Atmosphere is brilliant. $131 for one starter, 2 main and 7 drinks. Good value for Chicago. Would recommend.

Shareables are great; veggie entrees not so much

By aagarwal |

Dining here was a new experience for us (date night. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, staff courtesy, cocktails, and most (not all) of the food options. As a vegetarian, their pumpkin hummus, french fries (which I stole from my wife's entree plate), and smashed potatoes were delicious! Unfortunately, out of the two vegetarian dinner options, and having allergies to mushrooms, their Roasted Savoy Cabbage was a miss for me. I found the seasoning, especially salt, to be too intense for my palate. Perhaps, the chef and team can consider a veggie burger alternative, or a pasta dish? I'll gladly come back to dine at Farm Bar in Ravenswood, but I'll stick to the Shareable Plate Options. By the way, I loved the back of the staff shirts (EIEIO).

Great Food, Service & Drinks

By SHD11 |

I visited Farm Bar with a group of 6 people on a Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. Bobby was our waiter and he couldn't have been more helpful recommending dishes and beverages when asked. The food was fresh and delicious - burgers and salads for all - and dessert was to die for. Key Lime Pie is a definite YES!

Great place to eat

By dlstone1969 |

The Farm Bar is a trendy refreshing pub. The menu was really different so we tried different dishes to share. We ordered squash salad & a flatbread. They were delicious. It is not a large place & fills up quickly on theatre nights. It is only a block from the Athenian Theatre. Service is great & everyone is very friendly. I would highly recommend it!

Cheese curds at the bar

By HoosierWisdom |

This place fills up during lunch, so consider eating at the bar. The cheese curds were a great starter, fluffy coating and warm cheese interior. Very little grease.

Best cheese curds in Chicago (and fantastic cocktails!)!!!

By Tim F |

Hidden gem in Lakeview with a locally sourced model, great rustic yet classy vibe, and delicious food in an intimate setting. The cocktails are unique and well-prepared, the food - especially the burgers and cheese curds - does not disappoint, and the drink list is both long and original. Very highly recommend.

Local chain

We came on a snowy evening. The restaurant is very distinctive looking from the outside and inside it was nicely decorated, but not very big. The night we were there, it was crowded and loud but not intolerable. Tables are packed closely together since it is a small place. We had reservations and I think you will need them to get a table. After a few minutes they found a free table and sat us near the entrance. They gave us paper menus. One side drinks and food on the other. We decided to have a bottle of Malbec wine. The menu has a couple for vegetarian and vegan options. We asked the waiter which dishes were best and he recommend the Pan Fried Maitake Mushroom for a vegetarian dish and for my partner he recommended the Fried Pork chop. We took the recommendations and ordered both. Our food arrived after about 15/20 minutes. The food looked very nice. My Fried Maitake dish was OK but lacked any texture. Just kind of mush. Needed acid or heat, generally did not have a distinctive flavor. I did eat it, so wasn't terrible, just not exciting. My partner had a different issue. He claimed his pork was under cooked. I know nothing about pork, but he claimed it was a "medium" cook. They took his meal off the ticket. When we arrived home I saw the receipt for the meal and noticed they overcharged us for the wine. It was 60 on the menu and 110 on the bill. I called them and they said they would fix it on my bill. They told me it was a system problem they had seen before. Overall, service was just OK, food was lacking, the atmosphere was crowded and tight. I could have ordered the wrong dish but for this price level, everything should have been amazing. It was far from that. I would have paid much more for better food. I'm sad it was so disappointing. Also make sure you check the prices on the bill before you leave. We did love the wine.

Great burgers, busy Saturday night

By Anastacia C |

Burgers were really good, had a cider sangria which was fancy and tasted ok, but seemed pretty overpriced. Had a speciality Anthony Bourdain drink which benefited suicide prevention which was really heartwarming. The environment was dark and candle lit which was nice, but we were so close to the next table I felt like I was a third on their date. I think this might be better for brunch than for an intimate Saturday night. Was also hard to flag down our waiter, combination of it being dark and him not coming by our table often.

Great food and great service

By Anna M |

We were lucky to get reservations for an early Saturday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed everything from start to finish. The hostess was so friendly and welcoming. Drinks were good and they were very understanding and accommodating when a draft did not meet our expectations. The food was awesome with some unique farm-to-table, locally sourced menu items, along with standbys like chicken and burgers. Everything was delicious and the honey hot wings were the best I’ve ever had. It’s a small place made even smaller by distancing requirements but definitely worth a visit. Oh, and don’t forget the cider donuts for dessert!

Excellent food and great service

By Patti S |

This is definitely a place to go for excellent food. Love that they are locally sourced. best we had was a burger - perfectly cooked to order and enhanced by seasonal toppings. Also enjoyed the selection of local craft beers, though they should really choose a better option to represent Wisconsin (speaking as a craft beer lover from the Madison area). No problem for us as we look for more local options when we travel just not impressed with the one WI choice they feature.

Great neighborhood spot!

By Jeanius421 |

This tiny, noisy house/restaurant has wonderful food, reasonable prices and interesting craft cocktails. I would go again in a minute.

Unique offerings at neighborhood restaurant.

By Jewelsworld |

Tiny neighborhood restaurant – cozy and nicely decorated. We got there right before the evening rush and managed to get a table in the front window on a balmy early fall evening which was lovely. The food is interesting. All the ingredients are Midwest grown or sourced. We started out with the Ploughman’s Board – toast, local cheese, cured meat, pickled cranberries, house-made pickles and a hearty stone ground mustard. All devoured in about two minutes flat. We all pretty much wanted the same thing for our mains so two of us ordered the Wisconsin Lamb Burger and two tried the Michigan Harvest Burger. The lamb burger had pickled cranberries, bacon and three cheeses and the Michigan burger was topped in herbed goat cheese, caramelized onions and sour cherry preserves. The flavor combinations worked well together. Served with tasty fries and a chef made tomato sauce that leaned more toward a thin barbecue sauce. I’m kind a partial to Heinz. In fact, I consider French Fries a vehicle for ketchup so I wasn’t too enamored with the house sauce but my family all loved it. Farm Bar prides themselves on creative mixed drinks that sadly consisted of far more ice than anything else for a hefty price. The drink was beautiful to look at but seemed little more than a couple of ounces of grapefruit juice with a dash of liquor topped with a flower. They had several interesting beers that made the guys super happy – literally. Our server, Bobby, made the experience even better. Since we have a brewery cellar man in our party, he was impressed with the level of 'beer' knowledge shared during our meal. We love supporting neighborhood restaurants and we will definitely return to Farm Bar. And maybe I’ll give a different mixed drink a try. Delightful evening.

If you're gonna have a burger this is where to have it!

By cgr |

Came here for second time. They don't take reservations so you have to chance being able to get seated; the place has become popular and busy. Friendly service. Terrific cocktails. Burgers are gourmet and, in my opinion, just 'awesome'! Try the barnyard and you won't be disappointed. Lemon meringue pie from Bing pies was a lovely ending.

Wonderful food and great comfortable atmosphere!

By Travel_More_KW2 |

Nice comfortable atmosphere and wonderful food & drinks! The cheese curds appetizer is a must have. It is a small restaurant so reservations are needed to be sure you have a table.

Food so good sad service so horrible

By Soltysiak |

We wasted 2 hours of our Saturday for good food but horrible service. Took 30 min just to get a drink. The woman who seemed to be a manager was unbelievably rude and seemed like we were bothering her. This place is not worth your time, find somewhere else that wants to take your money cause this isn't it, here your an inconvenience.

Family friendly place with great midwestern food!

By Karen1539 |

Great place for the parents to eat with the kids! It was pretty busy when we arrived (about 5:45pm) and had a wait of about 30 minutes, so either plan on eating earlier or later. The best fried cheese curds I have had, so we will certainly go back. Nice variety of midwestern foods and craft beers.

Great Option Tucked in Residential Neighborhood.

By william w |

Some co-workers had just visited Farm Bar and strongly recommended it as a great place to have a drink or tasty meal during the busy holiday season. After a movie my wife and I decided to check it out before we headed home. The place has a great vibe with simple white-washed walls and vintage barn accessories. The local craft beers and wines by the glass selection were reasonably priced. Since we loaded up on popcorn at the movie we decided to share a few appetizers; cheese curds and squash salad which were both excellent. The service was attentive but distracted at times. We’ll be back to try the entrees.

Nice place for a casual dinner

By KrisK_8 |

Very nice neighborhood place in Lakeview. It's in a neighborhood surrounded by houses so it's easy to miss. Casual and comfortable with really friendly service. Food is upscale bar food with some Wisconsin classics like cheese curds. Nice beer and wine list. Nothing fancy, but definitely worth going.

Mediocre

By Maurine L |

Service great, however wine prices are ridiculously high and atmosphere loud. Probably not a repeat. Food was "fine."

Lakeview gem

By Rita W |

Lovely farm to table menu in a beautifully intimate setting. In an turn of century house. Fun 1940's era cocktails. The staff couldn't be warmer or more accommodating. My 5 y.o said it was the best place EVER!

farm bar was really good!

By Dude Man |

farm bar was really good! My friend had the chicken sandwich and loved it! The farm burger was excellent. The french fries were tasty. They had a house beer that was made with the owners honey that he has on his farm. It was really tasty!

Nice neighborhood spot

I'm a local and I love coming to Farm bar. Excellent burgers, their Straganoff is amazing. Family friendly, nice little outdoor eating area if you can get a table. Friendly staff!

Great local bar with a hometown farm flair

By Chris M |

Picture the traditional bar on main street USA in any farm community and you have Farm Bar. The interior and exterior is very traditional maybe a bit utilitarian but comfortable just a bit noisy when busy. It’s also set back away from the busy city streets which adds to the charm. As for the food - modern menu with unusual and very tasty combinations of traditional fare. Try the Michigan burger it’s a hit and the most popular.

Nice concept, personable service.

By Kevin C |

Decided to try the Farm Bar in Lakeview this week. They embrace the farm to table concept to the point that they own a farm in Wisconsin. They also purchase vegetables from a location in the city that grows them via hydroponics. Our waiter, Thomas, was very enthusiastic and attentive. He highly recommended the cheese curds as an appetizer and I have to say, he was spot on. I'm not a huge fan of them normally but these were good. I ate their basic burger minus the onion which came on a butter bun and with hand cut fries and they both were tasty. My wife got the pulled pork pot pie which was their special of the night which she thought was very good. I really liked that they had a selection of craft beers from throughout the four state region. I had the Eleanor porter, made by the Pollyanna Brewing Company from Lemont and it was an excellent choice. Overall, we liked the ambiance and the attentiveness of the staff and we will likely go there again in the near future to sample something different off the menu.

Neighborhood Treasure

By Voloshka755 |

Small corner restaurant with friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. We went for an early Saturday night dinner and were able to sit outside. The service was excellent. We enjoyed hearing about the local beers and wines. The specialty drinks were interesting and very tasty. The hamburgers were delicious, as was the fish sandwich. We shared a strawberry cheesecake for dessert and that was equally good. Everything on the menu is local and the restaurant is very family friendly. We all enjoyed our dining experience and the price was very reasonable for the area. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Absolutely delicious!!

By Gwen |

Farm to table places are my favorite and the Farm Bar did not disappoint. We had the most amazing service and the food was fantastic. We loved the atmosphere and the best part was that we felt like a little bit like family coming to Sunday dinner. The dinner selection was great and everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Perfect spot!

If you're gonna have a burger and fries somewhere, here's the place!

By pctrainer |

Have been to Farm Bar twice in the past month. Had a burger both times and never looked back. It's the place to have a burger when you're craving one. I had the Indiana BarnYard which is a burger with pulled pork and a fried egg. The food is so fresh and picture perfectly presented. Craft cocktails are quite good, too. No reservations and fills up quickly but worth the wait!

Ravenswood Location

By L H |

Good fresh food, nice people, good service (slightly slow when crowded). Furnishings could be a bit more comfortable, but the only real problem is how loud it gets when crowded; having to shout at your dining companions is the opposite of relaxing.

Pre-theater dinner with family

By Christian F |

Pre-theater dinner with family. Great pub food. Even a few vegetarian options for my mother in law and daughter. Wish there where more. Tons of beer options and craft mixed drinks.

Great Food and ambience! Farm to table & Craft Beers!

By 782jean |

Awesome appetizers and entrees! Don't pass on the Bavarian Pretzel or Wisconsin Cheese Curds as starters! The grassfed steak frites and Local BLT were delicious! Too bad the place isn't bigger - only downside was waiting for seating but that's because it's a great place to dine and worth the wait! Will return! Seasonal Menus make this place unique - can't wait for the next one!

Such a Gem in Lakeview

By Maggie |

5 friends and I decided to venture to this cute new spot in Lakeview. Right from the start when we walked in, the staff was so friendly! The atmosphere is very charming and had a "country" feel. The cocktails were AMAZING!!! Such a beautiful presentation. Our waiter Steven was extremely knowledgable and so fun, you could clearly tell he loved his job and passionate about the restaurant. The food was just as amazing as the cocktails- be sure to get the cheese curds- you cannot go wrong by going here!! I cannot wait to go back here with family, on a date, or with friends again!

Special Neighborhood Spot

By Gilbert B |

We had brunch and it was great. Started with poutine which was great and then had smoked trout sandwich, open faced breakfast sandwich, trout salad bowl, and crispy chicken sandwich and all were great. Very friendly staff.

memorably good place

By Karen7 |

we grabbed a table before a show at the Athenaeum nearby and were lucky as it filled up quickly. it has a great old pub vibe but is also family friendly. I loved the food - farm style with some Wisconsin classics - I've never had cheese curds before but now I'm hooked! great atmosphere, food and drink

GREAT COCKTAILS

By nicolinog2015 |

In addition to my previous review, I forgot to mention about the great cocktail I had. Ok for the usual and classic Manhattan and many others however it is a must to ask for the cocktail "Padova 10:32pm"; a signature cocktail with Marschino Liquor. Really to die for. ask the bartender for that cocktail.

Sunday Brunch

Went with friends for Sunday Brunch. Despite living close by, I had never heard nor been to this place. Farm Bar has a great vibe and the service and food were quite good. It's well worth a visit!

Farm Bar

By Clay G |

Farm Bar is a cute trendy bar in Lakeview. With lots of American staples in a classier fashion, you'll have plenty to enjoy. I got the fried chicken sandwich, and it was really tasty but I have some notes. I wish the breading stayed on it a bit better because while the chicken and the breading individually were delicious, they were super great together. Also, I enjoyed the ketchup with the fries. On Tuesdays they donate part of the bill to charity and there’s no extra cost which is cool too.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

By Kartik K |

I have been meaning to write this review of my terrible experience at Fart Bar Lakeview in November 2024, but didn’t get a chance until now: Two hours before going to the restaurant for dinner, I called to ask if the butter buns in their Classic Burger could be replaced with vegan bread, and the person on the phone told me that the burger could be fully veganized and that they had several vegan bread options. Once we got to the restaurant, it was very crowded so we had to sit in their outdoor heated area which was actually very cold and not that well-insulated. After some back-and-forth with the waitress over the course of about 45 minutes, we were told that they actually did not have any vegan bread options for the Classic Burger and that neither the sauce inside the burger nor the fries with the burger are vegan for some reason (I’m guessing they both contained eggs). They offered to replace the fries with a salad, but we refused because not even the salad they were offering was vegan by default (it contained honey). They then had the audacity to offer adding a side of sautéed mushrooms for an uncharge of $6 even though we were omitting most of the ingredients from the meal, and this was on top of the $3 upcharge for the Impossible Patty on the Classic Burger which already had an expensive base price of $19. In other words, Fart Bar made us sit for almost an hour outside in the freezing cold at night just for them to tell us they were charging $19 + $3 + $6 = $28 for a patty with a few veggies and soggy mushrooms but no buns/bread, no cheese, no sauce, and no fries, and the worse part about it all is that I had called them just two hours prior to avoid this exact fiasco and was completely misled by the person on the phone. At this point we just gave up and walked (in the cold) to a different restaurant because there were no other entrees that could be made vegan. The only remotely redeeming part is that their pumpkin seed hummus appetizer was pretty decent; however, this is now irrelevant as I no longer see this option on their menu online. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, and if I could give Fart Bar zero stars, I would.

Lovely little bar

This is a lovely little bar, a hidden gem. It has a really cozy and inviting atmosphere. We didn't eat but had a lovely bottle of wine. Would definitely go back.

Great food and beer

By Jmclau11 |

Had a fantastic dinner here on Christmas Eve, Eve. Restaurant was relatively empty but I assume that was because of the holiday. The beer list was extensive and focused on local Illinois beers. The food was fantastic. Has the pretzel to start, donut holes for dessert and the smoked beet Rubin which was absolutely incredible. Will absolutely be back!

Lovely Sunday brunch

By sharrongeg |

Our Daughter and son-in-law had made reservations for us here this morning. Smallish restaurant seating 30 max. We were shown to a back table (between wait station and bathroom), but requested to be seated up front. Why do restaurants do that? We started with coffee and monkey bread. While very tasty, the texture was more like biscuits. Fantastic sauce on top. Ordered 4 different breakfast entrees and all the food was delicious. Tab was $76 before tip.

Cozy Little Local Restaurant

By Bruce F |

We recently ate at this new spot for the first time and found it to be excellent. Food is delicious, and service is friendly and very accommodating. It's a quintessential local neighborhood restaurant that is quite popular, so arrive early as tables fill quickly after about 7pm. The menu features burgers with grass-fed beef, but there are vegetarian options including a fish melt sandwich on rye bread. The fried cheese kurds are amazing. There's a nice bar, and they feature a large selection of beers, many draft and craft. A cool seating spot is a table for about 5 by the window up front.

Great Food near the Athenaeum Theater

By Gmanbumpy |

We were running to this bar in the rain after the theater on a Sunday night. It is on the corner surrounded by homes. I was sure I had the address wrong. There were 4 people in the restaurant and my expectations were low. Restaurant bar closes 12:00am kitchen closes 9:00pm on Sunday. We luckily made it in on time. Their website is a better indicator for hours open and serving than google. The food was great! Here are my recommendations. appetizers we tried were the fried cheese curds and Pretzel. both came with interesting sauces. Craft Beer Burger was delicious served with crispy fries (too salty). The ketchup I believe was homemade. really good! We split the Mighty vine tomato salad. This is more like a salad than sliced tomatoes with toppings. It was both hot from the peppers and mildly sweet dressing with sharp arugula and soft burrata cheese. Guess which I liked the best! They make their own cider. We had a dry cider that was not at all sweet and unlike anything I have tried. We also had a more traditional cider brewed with honey. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, service was very good, the bar was a little cold and dark. We did not think the bar was open walking up that night.

Charming and Delicious

The service was excellent and the food delicious! We especially enjoyed the cheese curds…not to be missed. Will be coming back on a future visit.

Sunday Brunch

By BAVANRUDEN |

I came here with three friends two Sundays ago. Being from WI you could tell the menu was trying to emulate a lot of what we do best. It was kind of funny actually that we ended up choosing this spot for brunch. Everyone enjoyed their meals! For starters we tried the WI cheese curds, and the pull apart cinnamon bread. The meals we had included: the WI Pimento Sandwich, Farmers Breakfast (x2), and the Breakfast Tacos. We made reservations, which I highly suggest doing, and got seated as soon as we arrived. The spot was right in front closest to the door, which in the summer is probably ideal, but in winter made it a bit cold with the door opening and closing with customers rotating in and out. Besides that this brunch was really nice and in a cute space. If you are in the neighborhood definitely seek this place out for brunch and drinks.

Great Small, Local restaurant

By ccalkins44 |

Farm bar is a great local restaurant. We live walking distance from it and come there at least once every two. The staff is amazing and the food extraordinary. I would recommend going early to make sure you get a table. I would also recommend the Wisconson Chese Curds, the Chicken Club, and the burgers.

Hidden gem!

By SamAdamsGhost |

The fries cheese curds are amazing! Seriously. Kale salad, Michigan burger, and pork chop were all great. Bread pudding average. Attentive service. Cool joint!

Lovely Spot from the Owners of Farmhouse

By Merrill O |

Walking by last night, this newly-opened spot looked so warm, festive and inviting, we couldn't resist stopping in to have a drink or two. Glad we did! This new spot (from the owners of Farmhouse) is a great addition to the neighborhood. Décor is lovely...the staff is friendly and welcoming....and the beer list is pretty stellar. We only went for late-night drinks, but I'm anxious to try their food menu. If you are in the neighborhood, pop in! You might just have found your new local spot.

Wonderful evening

Local bar and restaurant with exceptional service and fresh extremely flavorful food. The best fried cheese curds I have ever eaten! I will find my way back here next time I visit Chicago!!
