On the fence

By asc-sandiego |

Farmers and Seahorse is a solid three. I’ve been here a couple of times and I’m in no rush to go back. Pros - plenty of parking - large grassy area with cornhole, etc - family friendly - live music on Thursdays from 5-7 Cons - food is average and the portions are small. It’s mainly a tapas style restaurant. - weak happy hour in my opinion - closes at 7 and mainly caters to the business park crowd

Hidden in the Torrey Pines business district!

By LO_SD |

This little gem is hidden within the businesses in Torrey Pines. It's beautifully decorated, fun outdoor area, and great food! I highly recommend checking it out!! Before or after, you can hit the driving range at the Lodge -- it's across the street!

What a find

By Robin B |

Found this restaurant by accident while driving around the Torrey Pines area.Beautiful flowers and plants greet you at the luxurious outdoor seating area. After checking with the hostess we decided to eat lunch outside. We had the Beet Salad with Shrimp and the Crab cake sandwich with French fries. Also had a Tropic Like It Hot smoothy.....everything tasted as good as it sounds. This a trendy upscale “find” located in a business park area—but don’t let the location scare you away.....it is an oasis and wonderful food. The wait staff was exceptional Crab cake sandwich:

Love this place

By CoronadoCarol |

We have been to lunch/brunch at Farmer and the Seahorse three times (and tried several more times). We love the place--it is hopping, the servers are great, and the vibe is wonderful. We have had three dishes during our visits. Two were unbelievably good--the lobster benedict, and the beet-cured salmon. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars this time was the blue crab Louie salad. Most of the dishes at F and S are delightful to look at; this salad was not. We expected halves or quarters of hard boiled egg, slices or halves of tomato, and pieces of crab. We got a pile of lettuce with shredded crab and a few bits of egg and tomato mixed in. The butter lettuce was fresh and good, but there was way too much of it. The dressing was good--but not enough. Worst of all, the crab had fishy bits. Shreds of frozen or jarred crab is not worthy of this place. We will be back though ! There are lots of other things we are waiting to try. O

Ideal business lunch spot

By Greg D |

Great music along with a cool, funky design of the seating area immediately makes it good for casual lunch. There is a windstream camper that sits in the dining area - apparently refurbished into a conference room. Food was predictably Southern cal. Nice avocado and greens on my sandwich and a really nice bean salad. They have a good selection of beers to boot.

Good breakfast or luncheon escape in Torrey Pines Science Park

By Tom G |

A surprise to find off the parking lot on Callan Road, just east of the Torrey Pines golf course, in the rear of an office building in the heart of the San Diego biotech and research center. Eclectic design, as other reviewers have noted. Including an Airstream trailer just off the dining room and casual lounging areas. Nice patio area for warmer days. The lunch menu has pizzas and different items to share (meatballs, fish tacos, short ribs). Service varied from warm, friendly and fast, to detached and slow. Great $6 values at breakfast: eggs, scrambled; breakfast burrito; buttermilk pancakes.

Loved this Sunday Brunch

By AlwaysOnTheGo53 |

Went here for Sunday brunch after a long weekend away. The food was delicious, the outdoor space was great, tons of adorable young families and a nice mix of couples and friends. I would recommend this for anyone in the Torrey Pines area looking for a good brunch spot.

Happy Hour is all night and the "appetizers" are fine dining!

Happy Hour is all night and the "appetizers" are fine dining! Our party was blown away. Great selection of beers and cocktails. I will come here again!

Sunday Brunch Must!

By jenny4m |

From what I understand, the restaurant has limited hours. Fortunately, they are open for Sunday Brunch until 2pm. The Mimosa Bottle is $20 and perfect for 2-3 people. I got the Salmon toast and it was delicious! Was debating between the other two toast options: avocado or crab cake. I feel like you can't go wrong! Make sure to make reservations.

Good place for a lunch Bite or Happy Hour

By Barry R |

Due to the circumstances of my business trip, I ended up eating at the Farmer and Seahorse three times. Twice were at lunch, and once was at Happy Hour. I am happy to report that the menu was diverse enough, and the offerings were all well prepared and tasty. Be aware that it not a quick meal, so if you are pressed for time, I suggest take-out. Note that they are also open for breakfast, but happy hour is only on Wednesday and Thursday. No dinner is served. The happy hour menu is a collection of pizzas and small plates that are very good, but on the small side. It's also a little on the pricey side, so happy hour will cost as much as a full meal elsewhere (especially if you have more than one drink). Note that it located in an office building, and can be challenging to locate if you don't know the area. Parking is ample and free in the back of the building.

Worth the search

By Moabutah14 |

Great atmosphere here with lots of outdoor seating. I went for lunch and tried the crab cake sandwich with greens. We're going back to give the avocado toast a try for breakfast!

Happy hour not so great

By baltoro |

My wife had been there for lunch and loved this unique spot. The Happy Hour was only marginal with few selections on the menu. The concept of the restaurant is creative and fun. I might try it for breakfast or lunch. It is not open for dinner,

Tucked Away off Torrey Pines Rd.

If you like to eat outdoors, this is a great place to be. Beautiful flowering grounds, relaxing. Love it Only open for breakfast & lunch & Happy Hour most nights. Go--You won't regret it.

Worth the Hunt

By oscar505 |

Tucked away in a science research park and situated on the back of the office building that is the listed address, the Farmer and the Seahorse is a challenge to find for first timers. But do look for it. Atmosphere is fun and funky, and the menu for lunch is very appealing. I had a crabcake sandwich that was fantastic -- all sweet, fresh crab and no filler. The service was spot-on, friendly, knowledgeable and observant. When my dining companion didn't eat the last bit of a burger ordered medium rare, the server arrived with an apology because she felt perhaps it wasn't eaten because it was too rare -- and she brought us a cookie! Brian Malarkey has found a niche in providing first-class food at reasonable prices in what usually would be a sad little office-park deli. And he is being rewarded by lots of business!

Great place with good food

By colin l |

Great place with good food and atmosphere. Of course the tractor is a hit for the kids and lot’s of space for them to run around.

Pleasantly surreal - on many levels

By db7477 |

We thoroughly enjoyed Saturday brunch at the Farmer & Seahorse. It’s located on the top floor of the Alexandria in the Bio-Technology research park across from Torrey Pines Golf Course. The restaurant is large, has a huge outdoor patio, playground and an antique McCormick farm tractor… surreal. It also offers great service, food options, large portions and reasonable (for La Jolla) prices. I loved the Breakfast Burrito (sans tortilla) with a smoothie… ordinarily I would have opted for the Bloody Mary but there were children present.

FABULOUS ATMOSPHERE FOR FAMIY AND FRIENDS

By J B |

This is a delightful place to get together with family and friends. Casual and fun. Another Brian Malarkey creation- and what a creation it is! Outdoor space; wonderful playful indoor space as well- including dining in a couple of Airstream trailers. Unfortunately, the food was not on par with the surroundings, For brunch, several ordered "runny" eggs and all three orders came to the table almost hard-boiled. The fresh salads were delightful and tasty. One guest raved about the Hash offering. It is definitely a go - just don't expect fine dining.

Beautiful outdoor seating for brunch

By meesh201 |

Beautiful outdoor seating and delicious brunch with friends. The lobster Benedict included a generous amount of lobster. Everyone loved the bananas foster French toast and chicken & waffles.

"The Quality of Weekend Brunch has gone downhill"

By SoCalTravelBirds |

We used to love dining here for Sunday brunch when they first opened in 2015. We often golf at Torrey Pines and enjoy hiking the coastal trails, hence this beautiful, casual and relaxing restaurant was one of our family’s favorites. But after our last visit for Easter day brunch, we’re taking a break. On Easter day, we really enjoyed being a part of the high energy bustling of families, rejoicing in festive mood and getting a kick out of the restaurant’s casual playground-like atmosphere. The location and ambience, easy parking, sitting outdoors under the sun with food and drinks, throwing corn-hole bean bags are what we most like about this restaurant. However, the food to choose from their limited menu has been an annoying issue lately. On Easter day, past 1 pm they already ran out of food from almost half of their brunch menu. No additional menu-items or special menu was offered on this festive day’s event. Although it was fun to watch hostess in bunny-hats and adults following the Easter Bunny along with frolicking kids, the food and drinks were most disappointing we had in 5 years at this restaurant. They ran out of all fruits from menu’s Seasonal fruit plate. Also, Acai parfait, Breakfast Pizza and Crab cake toast couldn’t be ordered as they ran out of ingredients for those as well. We used to like their Avocado toast, but it is now a vegan dish without the eggs. They used to serve it with two topped poached-eggs. Now its left with sprouts, greens and avocado on thin slice of sourdough bread that is baked so hard that a steak knife (I asked for) jumped out of my hand trying to cut through it. It’s not the same without the eggs! Why not serve with or without eggs? I asked, but the waitress said that’s how we serve -with no eggs and with no other type of bread than sourdough! Pointless to serve hard-toasted sourdough if no one can eat it, which seems like they've almost turned this dish carb-free! We couldn’t get much of a meal from avocado-toast plate, it felt too skimped. No fresh herbs garnish was used on Farmer’s Breakfast plate like they used to. No fresh sprig of mint leaves on pancakes. And they’ve also changed their most wonderful and popular blueberry pancakes to Ricotta yogurt soufflé pancake. It tasted like a spoonful of overly moist, grainy textured, sour mess in mouth that I didn’t want to swallow. It looked delicious in a tiny reduced size cast iron pan on a plate but tasted terrible. It didn’t taste anything like pancake, it was more like a sour soufflé. Not sure why the chef has put a strange twist/weird change to their perfectly good tasting original menu. Being Californians, we’re all for getting fresh, organic and healthier foods which isn’t always easy to get in a restaurant. I would prefer a side of healthy Greek yogurt offered instead, and tastier and healthier ancient grains like buckwheat added to pancake/carb-based dishes. But since the brunch menu was already somewhat skimpy, the chef could’ve added a few more new dishes than replacing some of the best original ones with inspiring-titled recipes that’re unappetizing/less palatable. “Tropic like it's hot” smoothie was dull white in color that the waitress said only 2-ingredients were used- banana and coconut milk. It had no pineapple, strawberry or mango puree as described in menu. They ran out of these fruits yet served us bland and charged full $7. Champagne was flat with no bubbles, and tea and espresso came out cold! In a nutshell, we didn’t like the changed menu. And skimping food and drinks on a special day’s brunch made us rethink about this place. We would like to be back, but after my feedback I would like to see some traditional dishes back on the list along with more Cali-inspired creative cuisine by San Diego’s famed Chef and owner Brian Malarky. All I’m asking is “What happened?”

Beautiful Location

Great location, great service and good food. Nice outdoor seating. Food was fresh and delicious. Lots of things to choose from. They were also able to accommodate food allergies.

Great innovative menu, healthy options

By LynnieD1996 |

Farmer & the Seahorse is right in the middle of the biotech hub of San Diego and is part of the Alexandria complex in Torrey Pines. The space is fabulous and has lawn games when you first come in. I often go here for partnering lunches. My favorite thing is the squash lasagne or the Korean picnic salad.

Perfect Summer Place For Families!

By Paulina Perrucci |

Loved the location and my meal! If I lived in San Diego, I would be here all the time during the summer. It's perfect for any age with a kid play area, out door dinning, and even dinning inside of an air stream. It was super fun on the inside! I recommend renting it out for parties over 8!

Off the beaten path of family dining

By hockeymomStPaul_Mn |

We tried this place based on other TripAdvisor reviews and consider this review an unbiased account of a midwestern, well-traveled family stopping by for dinner. We had a reservation, which seemed to confuse the "host". Was she a host? We don't know, it's a little confusing when you walk in. Regardless, it's not a place that seemed to accept the reservation because, according to her, it's an "open table" concept. Meaning you walk in and sit wherever. So I would have been unhappy if we drove there and the tables were filled even though I had a reservation. But there were still tables to choose from, so no problem. My family chose the airstream, which is parked in the middle of the restaurant. It has a long table with plenty of board games to amuse the kids. After ordering, the kids went out to the yard to play a bean bag toss and bocce ball, which kept them entertained until the food arrived. Back to the food, which didn't work well for our family. We were given the "happy hour" menu, and when asked it why it was so sparse, were told that the restaurant "is more of a lunch place". Shoot. Didn't realize that when I reserved it. So, making the best of it, we ordered off the happy hour menu, burgers and pizza for the kids; polenta, fish tacos and pickled veggies for the adults. The adults were happy with what arrived, as the food was well seasoned and fresh. The kids were disappointed...the pizza wasn't quite what they expected and the hamburger arrived in a lettuce "bun". We never saw the server again and walked out front to pay, but maybe that's what is intended there? Because the experience was unique, and the food was quite good, we would return again. Probably not with the kids though. For them, they left hungry and we stopped at Smashburger for their real "dinner".

Amazing Place in an odd location. But worth searching out!

By TaxLass |

We were at the Hilton Torrey Pines and this place was within walking distance. Even if it's not within walking distance, go. We had exceptional service and the food was amazing.it is in an industrial park towards the back of the property so you have to search a bit. And it's airy and open and welcoming, and has games to play like corn hole. We were there with seven-month-old babies and were treated like royalty. Highly recommend.

Fun low key location

By SimeyTravels |

I feel like this Malarkey restaurant offered the most bang for my buck. Then again, there were four of us splitting five meals and three drinks four ways, so...uhm...math! I love the look and feel of this location. It wasn't very busy when we got there, but I am glad I made a reservation. The restaurant is very open, with a balanced outdoorsy yet modern feel to it. Hard to explain (and I didn't get any pictures), but it was a relaxing space. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and joked with us while we were there. He was patient when we were stumbling through the menu, and went bouncing around the table to take our orders. I went with the burger, because I felt the need for meat. It doesn't say it on the menu, but the sandwiches come with a side (I went with the fries). Around the table, three of the ladies ordered the Cobb salad, and one ordered the chicken sandwich. While we waited, we noticed that the dining room started to fill up a bit, but never got to capacity. Our waiter kept us posted on the status of our meals, and kept us stocked up on beverages. The meals finally arrived, and we tucked in. While I did enjoy the burger, I was disappointed in that the bun was overly large for the patty. That led to one messy dining experience and a lot of leftover bread. Not sure if that's the norm, but I wasn't a fan of that. The flavor, though, was very good, and the burger itself was perfectly cooked, so points there. The fries were crinkle cut, crispy and a nice side to the burger. The others loved their meals, as well. Plus, two of us checked in on Yelp and got cookies to share with the table (chocolate chip, no oatmeal raisin for us, thanks.) All in all, it was an enjoyable meal at a fun, fresh restaurant. I loved their outdoor space (they had cornhole set up on one lawn, and were setting up for an event on another lawn as we were leaving), and the patio dining area looked very comfortable. I do want to go back, hopefully soon!

Open & Enjoyable Space

Came here and really enjoyed my visit. Great little turf patio which is great for kids and adults alike. Spacious patio and indoor seating. Doesn’t feel crowded. Friendly staff. Came for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed my açaí bowl. Would come back to try lunch or dinner.

A nice walk from Lodge at Torrey Pines

By jsoukup7 |

My wife and I spent 5 days at the Lodge at Torrey Pines and went to Farmer and Seahorse for at least one meal everyday. The first day was on a Saturday for brunch and the place was absolutely buzzing. Every table seemed to be full yet we were greeted cheerfully and seated promptly. Our server (Theodora?) was excellent. I had the Sunrise over Nashville and my wife had the seasonal fruit. It was a delightful experience from start to finish, hence the returning every day afterwards. During the course of the week, we had something different on the menu everyday and everything was good. Great menu and the staff runs like a well-oiled machine. Highly recommend.

food lets it down a bit

By Frank M |

There's loads of parking that's about 200 yards from the restaurant. The lunch menu I say in December was creative but rather limited. Decided to try the fish. The appearance was a delight but the fish tasted not so fresh & wasn't well cooked (had dried out somewhat)- & was quite tiny. The mixed carrots -again a combination of delightful colors -but their wrinkled appearance tells a story of mass catering technique. On the pricey side for what you get.

Nice lunch visit

By Peter H |

Great service and food! We had the lobster roll and the Wagyu burger. Both were tender with fresh bread. The lobster roll had lots of lobster which was great, very little stuffing or mayonaise. The Wagyu burger was juicy and nicely done on "medium". Save room for the truffle fries!

All round enjoyable brunch

By Sorcham9 |

Recently visited here for brunch with family. There was nice outdoor seating but as it was raining, the staff accommodated us inside. There was great, pleasant live music. Food was delicious, although a couple of mix ups with the orders but the staff were great.

must visit when in san diego

By Michael P |

best place to eat brunch, loved it. great food, great service, great location. will go here everytime in SD. A must eat place. Can get crowded so make reservations.

Service

By dutch921 |

It is a cool setting that you would never run across by accident. Food was ok but the service was very bad. Ordered a pizza and got a cheese plate. Sent that back and reminded them of my order and when I got it guess what wrong pizza. Needless to say the tip wasn't very big.

Great food, excellent cocktails

By Rachel D |

Stopped here for lunch on the way to Torrey Pines State Reserve. Food was great, atmosphere is fun and relaxing. We had our toddler daughter with us and it didn't seem like the place to bring kids (no kids menu) but everyone was welcoming. The hostess and our server were both knowledgeable and kind. Drinks are great!

Love the farmer, and the sea

By lilyblue25 |

Treated myself to lunch here, by myself, after a stressful morning meeting with attorneys. I had to rely on my gps to get there, since is down hill, behind all the biotech businesses in Torrey Pines. I had no idea this treasure was buried there! No problem to find a parking spot, but questioned if I was coming in through the front or back door, since there is no signage. Maybe the tractor is the signage??... The hostess was taken aback that I didn't have reservations, and I kid you not, looked at me from head to toe before walking me to my table. Awkward! I guess I wasn't dressed well enough for her standards. They have the "open garage door" style, making the place comfortable, stylish, but not so formal. The interior looks beautiful, with tall, half circle booths, and several tables. I believe I saw an Airstream in there, as part of the decor. I was seated on the patio, it was warm and beautiful. The aromas coming from the kitchen were absolutely magical. Chef Malarkey runs this place, you can only expect something amazing. The waitress was exceptional, I wish I had her name. I had delicious crab cakes, a salad, and enjoyed the moment. I loved the water bottles with the restaurant's name, wish I could buy one... It didn't take me long to notice that my mood had changed, and that I felt relaxed. The atmosphere, the aromas, the fantastic meal, and the great service were responsible for that. It was a very, very good lunch.

Location is amazing

Super tasty food. The portions weren’t huge, but they were filling and very well seasoned. Lovely location, quiet, peaceful.

Solid "Meh" on the "Good-Meh-Suck" scale- not bad, not great

By Misplaced_Childhood |

On the "Good-Meh-Suck" scale, this is a solid "Meh". Clearly one of the few places in the area to eat at for any sort of business meeting, it is relatively upscale as expected. The food was average. Not bad but certainly not great for the prices paid. Will I go back? Most likely but if there were other options, I would certainly entertain them. Again, this isn't a bad place. It's just not a great place.

Tucked into a business park is the hippest breakfast lunch place

By losjacksons |

You will see a large billboard on a building with a very hip logo off of the main street. If you take the risk like we did and pull into the business park you will come upon a gastronomic oasis. Beautiful gardens surround the outside patio and Green Bocci and corn hole toss lawn that they have set up for fun. Inside you walk into this hipster rustic fresh modern melange of architecture. There is a camper that has been converted into a conference room. There is a full bar too. Ok, so it is counter order and seat yourself and the service is great. We came early for breakfast before a round of golf. I had the avocado toast with poached eggs ($7) what a deal. Everything we had at our table was cooked with passion and in this great setting... completely worth it. IF you are staying at Torrey Pines or the Hilton... it is a short walk and the food is worth it... sometimes you just need to get out of the hotel food scene and price for a great breakfast.

Slow service but decent food

By FayesFork |

There IS parking to Farmer & The Seahorse. So take your time to find the private parking lot for this building. The patio seating is beautiful and quaint. Make sure to make reservations, even for lunch, as the hostess seemed to imply that it was almost necessary to do so. We ordered: Tomato-Tarragon Soup: The tomato soup was pretty light and didn’t taste much of any cream. It tasted almost like runny tomato soup if that makes sense. Not a bad thing. It was a bit underseasoned and could have been served hotter. Local Cod N’ Garden Chips: The 3 pieces of cod had a nice tempura like batter to each piece. It was served with a side of tartar and ketchup sauce. I would say that only 1 out of the 3 pieces were fried right (the middle piece of the 3 you see in the pic). Slow Braised Short Ribs: The short ribs were fork tender, melt-in-your mouth delicious. The rich brown gravy (wine sauce?) tasted smooth and luscious with each bite. I heard they have happy hour now Thur-Fri from 4p-7p. So I can see myself calling a few friends to congregate here to try out a few items on their menu

Good food, good price, flaky counter staff

By Sandra P |

This place is literally in an office building and not open at night past 7 pm I think. I went for breakfast, walked there from Torrey Pines Lodge, Very cute decor and seating both inside and outside. Good food, reasonably priced. You order from the counter and although there were at least 4 employees (both male and female) within 5 feet of me I was left waiting at the counter as they had a long, detailed conversation about shoes while ignoring me. It was downright awkward. So, if management can address the lackadaisical attitude of the staff it is a nice place for a casual meal.

Will definitely be back for the risotto

By David W |

Went here for a group work lunch. Beautiful location sitting outside on a wonderful afternoon. Couldn't decide what to get because everything on the menu looked good. Was thinking about the risotto but ended up getting the King Cobb salad. Wish the dressing had a bit more zip to it but if I'd reached for the pepper that would have taken care of it. Otherwise, a very nice lunch entrée with tasty chicken, avacado, goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, hard boiled egg, and a huge pile of bacon on top of the lettuce. Everything that came to the table looked great, burgers, other salads, and the risotto looked fantastic (so big that 2 people shared it and couldn't finish it). Might go back with the wife tonight and have it for dinner!

I LOVED this hidden find!

By austinteri |

This restaurant has an interesting location in a business park, but don't let that put you off. It is outstanding, and awesome in so many ways. The interior is a playful eclectic mix that is warm and wonderful. I couldn't decide where to sit because there are so many fun options. The menu is great. When our pretty breakfast showed up, I hoped it was as tasty as it was attractive, and we were not disappointed. We could, have eaten breakfast there ever Day of our trip and been very happy. The manager came over to check on us, and he was very hospitable and a pleasure to talk to. We will be back!

Romantic spot with very good food

By unhappytraveller123 |

Lovely setting and yummy food. We share a great lobster roll that’s crunchy and the waiter cuts it nicely in two. We also share a cauliflower salad that the waiter recommends and again, it’s delicious. You just want to sit here in this pretty place, enjoying the ambiance and very good food.

Hidden Gem

By Russ V |

This is a hidden gem tucked in an unusual place. Worth the search to a unique setting . Unusual hours with a small but well mix of selections. Fun for drinks with friends or a causal meal. Fish and Chips are very good , burger is lettuce wrapped standard . Fun setting for drinks indoor our out . Do not miss the gulfstream trail inside . Check the hours as they close by 7 PM M-F , no Saturday , brunch Sunday . Great Lunch place or happy hour stop .

Excellent food, atmosphere and pet friendly

By Barry H |

We were in San Diego visiting family with our new pup when we decided to get something to eat. Needed to find a pet friendly restaurant, so did a search and the Farmer & the Seahorse eatery showed up. Called to confirm they accepted pets and then we were off. Wow, what a find, not only do they love pets, but the food and beer are awesome, they had live music and there's a huge grassy area for playing or walking your pet. For dinner, we ordered the Grass Fed Burger on a Brioche bun with crinkle fries and peppercorn ranch dressings on the side. Washed it down with a Cigar City Brewing Maduro Brown Ale. This is one of those places that is a hidden gem and you just have to visit to enjoy it.

Breakfast with friends

By 21Ellen1958 |

Not much of a breakfast menu & they don't have decaf coffee nor can they reheat in a microwave if coffee is not hot enough. Nice setting but better for lunch or dinner.

Seek this out!

By David Marino |

This location is a bit off the grid, but really more of an oasis than anything. The setting is beautiful with organic gardens and cornhole games set up on grass lawns for a chill afternoon lunch daily, Sunday brunch, or happy hour Wednesday through Friday. While I occasionally go here for business lunches, I took my wife for the first time and we had an amazing lunch. The butternut squash lasagna is a must and something we shared. Instead of pasta noodles, they use thin slices of butternut squash as the base carbohydrate along with fresh tomatoes and sauce. It's meatless, absolutely fantastic and bursting with flavor. I had the salmon burger which I highly recommend and my wife had the watermelon salad, topped with shrimp, which she really enjoyed. Add a glass of rose', the outstanding service and the hip music that's playing, and the place is an absolute 10! Go out of your way to eat here.

after work

By john g |

It's at the exit for Torrey Pines golf course, off TP rd. Hard to find at the rear off a Biotech, go east from the golf course and park in back at the first driveway going down the hill. It's a great place for meetings, but also fun for snacks, games, and drinks after work.

Awesome breakfast

By Sven V |

A delightful and quirky place for breakfast. I had the breakfast scramble which was huge. The roasted cauliflower was in addition I would not have thought of. The staff was very friendly. And the setting was a good wakeup. The only downside for me is it they're closed on Saturday and I leave town on Sunday otherwise I would definitely coming

Farmer & seahorse & great experience

By nellie0212 |

I was looking for a location during Covid for my husband and I as well as another couple to have some wine and nice food. Farmhouse was a great selection. It sits within a beautiful landscape with lots of room between tables. Great selection of wines, light foods, great service and a feeling of pre-Covid. We spent 2 1/2 hrs enjoying the late afternoon and sunset. I highly recommend for a m perfect place to unwind and can’t wait for them to open again for dinner.

Good Outdoor Atmosphere

By Dean M |

We've gone there for brunch twice on the weekends. Their Banana Foster French toast is amazing. Everyone who had the Sunrise Over Nashville said it was so good. The chicken is a little spicy. The Lobster Benedict has a lot lobster. Definitely worth the money. I was really surprised how flavorful the Avocado Benedict was. I will say the no one was impressed with their potatoes. The French fries or salad is a better side. All their "For The Table" are good.

A Fun Dining Experience with Great Food!

By TLE |

We were staying at The Lodge and this restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge. We loved that we could just walk down the hill for dinner. It was Friday night and there was a fun vibe with live music and lots of activity. The overall atmosphere is realized and friendly. Our service was great and fast. The drinks were delicious and the pizza and meatballs were amazing! We wish this place was open Saturday nights as well. Would highly recommend!

Disappointed

By Franci B |

We ordered lunch-2 tomato soup with grilled cheese & the salmon salad. We asked for an extra plate so we could share with a 5 & 3 year old. The food came but no extra plates. Someone passing by our table noticed & said he'd get some but he didn't (later he stopped by & apologized) Our waitress stopped by & we had to ask for more water. I asked her what type of dressing was on the salad because it was so bland as to be tasteless. I asked for a different dressing & she brought it in a plastic cup smaller than the one our ketchup came in. We were charged 50 cents for the extra dressing.

Good food

By retiredtwo7 |

Found this place on a walk from Torrey Pines golf course. It is off of Callen where you will see the patio tables from the street. We found it hard to find the entrance but was greeted by a young man eager to help. How can you beat a decent breakfast of eggs/bacon/toast ,etc for around $6.00. We came back for lunch the next day and it was also very good. The place was full but service was fast and very friendly

This place is awesome !

By CoronadoCarol |

Everything about this place says, "awesome brunch venue." The patio seating area was hopping, with children and dogs playing on the adjacent lawn. The atmosphere is cheerful and welcoming. The service is excellent, as is the food. The lobster benedict with smashed fingerling potatoes was fantastic, with layers of flavor. The white wine sangria was good, and different. We can't wait to come back for the cheddar cheese waffle with Nashville fried chicken. They are open for Thursday and Friday Happy Hour and dinner too, but since we drive from Coronado we will stick to brunch.

Great option away from Torrey Pines

By swop |

Went here to get away from Torrey Pines lodge and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly, fast service and good food. Steak frites were excellent. Good wine lists. Significantly less expensive than at the hotel!

We were here on a business trip with about 25 people. They did an excellent job of accommodating so many people, although we were split up in 3 tables. But, that was ok and understandable. The food was really delicious, but beware ordering the pancake. It's like a souffle so it takes about 25 minutes to prepare. We were about ready to eat our arms off, and we were very rushed to get to the airport. There might have been a disclaimer on the menu warning of the long time, but I didn't see it. The food was presented in a very beautiful way. It's a really popular spot. Some at our table had the many flavored mimosas where you add a bit of a thick fruit compote to a glass of champagne. It looked wonderful. I had a kid's waffle and it was plenty of food. I highly recommend this place.

Novel surprise near Torrey Pines State Reserve

By Russ Q |

Our friends recommended we go to Farmer and the Seahorse for lunch. We loved the atmosphere and ambience of this place. Staff was very friendly and while we waited a short time for a table it was fun to poke around. I had the butternut squash lasagna, which was quite different than a traditional one but still delicious. My wife had their tomato soup, which she loved. For dessert we had a fabulous chocolate chip cookie!

Great food, neat venue

Outstanding fresh, healthy food. Interesting menu. Modern, sleek, urban venue. Friendly and helpful servers.

Testing it out for lunch

By Frank |

Had lunch there today to test it out. I wanted to take my group out for a nice lunch and the menu and some of the reviews looked great. I was seated immediately which was cool. I then waited for a waiter and water for over 10 minutes. Didn't notice right away because I was carefully facebooking while trying to avoid GoT spoilers. The couple seated next to my table, who were seated after me, started eating. That's when I realized I'd been there for at least 10 minutes and ignored. I got up and talked to the first staffer I saw to let them know I hadn't been servered. She apologized and a few minutes later my waitress appears. She was professional. I give her 5 stars for dealing with someone who was obviously irritated. She was charming, quick and pleasant. On to the food. The fries were soggy, the salad was crisp and fresh but could have used more dressing and wasn't really seasoned, however, the burger was really good. Cooked perfectly, seasoned well and presented nicely. Ambiance. The outdoor seating area is very nice. The bar section looked cool. I was seated inside with a nice view of both. Overall 2 stars out of 5. Food 3 stars. Ambiance 4 stars. Waiting around for over 10 minutes with no one talking to you to get your food order deducts you 1.5 stars.

Huge Brunch Crowd

By CoronadoCarol |

Five of us had an 11:30 reservation for brunch yesterday. We did not have to wait long to get seated. But we did have to wait a long time for our champagne and food. The restaurant must make way too many reservations for each time slot. Not enough cooks or servers to handle the crowd? We got our drinks at about 12:15 and our food at about 12:30. They were out of the dish that two of us ordered, the beet-cured salmon, We have been to this restaurant many times, and seen the quality of the food vary over time, ranging from 5 to 1 star depending on the dish. Our food—and the food that was being served around us—seemed closer to the 5 star level it used to be. Our lobster Benedict was very pretty and tasty, although it contained shreds as well as lumps of lobster (not as before). The smashed fingerlings were great. One friend had an omelet which she said was very good (looked a lot better than last time). The green salad looked very green but had too many stems. Two others had the shrimp and lobster rolls, which they enjoyed, although there was not enough filling for the bread. The truffle fries were wonderful. The servers were cheerful and fun as usual, but had way too many tables. We will return for a weekday lunch.

Great wedding reception at the Farmer & the Seahorse.

By Tudor |

The Farmer & the Seahorse is an amazing place. It is not open on Saturday nights and that's why our niece and new husband decided to have their reception there. The venue is amazing, the service is outstanding and the food was delicious.

Fun Place for Lunch

By Trek-Always |

Large dining area inside or outside. Food above average. The servers were over-stressed with too many tables. $51 for two with tip is expensive for a basic lunch. I would go back. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

Pet friendly

This place is so cute and a hidden gem tucked away near The Lodge and connected to The Alexandria. I’ve been here before for happy hour and this is my first for brunch. Very pet friendly, kid friendly, lots of grass and outdoor seating. We had reservations at 10 for a party of 16 that crammed at a table with 14 of us and two people sat at another table. At about two hours, they kindly kicked us out of our table for another party. We hung around for another two hours at the backyard lounge chairs on the grass. Lots of shade and great atmosphere. I had a toss up between getting lobster benedict ($32) or short rib Benedict ($29). Their food is more on the pricy side. I couldn’t get myself to spend that much on lobster and went with the short rib. Really good. You had choice of fries, potatoes or greens. I got greens. Our server didn’t ask everyone so some people had fries as default and got it changed to greens when it came out. For my drink, I got the lychee rum punch. It was sweet and fruity with lots of kick especially being on an empty stomach. They don’t split checks and added on 20% gratuity. Make sure you bring cash or Venmo each other. Overall, this place is a great hang out and loved the atmosphere.

Great food, great service, nice atmosphere

Went for Sunday brunch with friends. Server was awesome with suggestions and food/drink knowledge. Live acoustic/electric music, plenty of shade and nice coastal breeze added to the experience. Food was delicious. Menu was fabulous. Will definitely be back!

Creative event venue/restaurant with Airstream and fantastic farm to table food

By CoastalCruiser27 |

Alexandria Real Estate and Brian Malarkey's group have struck gold again with a gorgeous event space/restaurant/fitness center combo on Torrey Pines Road. There's an astonishing private Airstream dining room in the middle of the restaurant. Windows open up to tasteful outdoor dining decks surrounded by attractive drought tolerant landscaping. The focus of the cuisine is farm fresh and Pacific seafood. The crisp salads are available with protein options. The butter lettuce salad with shrimp was a divine lunch choice.

Worth the effort to find

Had great appertizers and dinner as part of a fundrasier. Good looking grounds for a party. Fun bar.

Hip and new

By G L |

Sadly, we were mildly impressed with this place. The food is good but not memorable and the decor tries hard, but sadly misses. In all fairness this is brand new place and it definitely worthy of another try. Located in an industrial area, it is bit hard to find.

Thumbs up on the patio

By Donna K |

A friend and I rode our bikes up from Mission Bay for breakfast. We ordered inside and our food was delivered to us out on the patio. We both had the breakfast burrito with egg and potato served with roja sauce and arugula on the side. It was quite good and seemed to be a pretty healthy version. We both commented that it looked like a nice place to go for happy hour with comfortable outdoor furniture grouped around gas fireplaces. I'd definitely go back.

Surprised

By Bella L |

I went there with my co-employees during lunch time. The place was not crowded and service was fast. The dish I ordered surprised me: it is restaurant's special. I would never expected it to be so good. Butternut Squash Lasagna ricotta, greens, roasted tomato & salsa verde. It is very good for vegans and people with gluten intolerance. Very innovative design and seating is available outside and inside. Works during week days and daytime only, but very nice for lunch in the area without commercial dinning.

Lunch/Brunch hit and miss

By Maureen C |

Have been twice, and the food was okay the first time and improved the second time. It's another upscale option if Torrey's too booked. The food was okay, the staff was good, so I would give it one more chance.

Sunny Brunch!

Went here with my daughter, 22 last week and wanted to comment on Farmer and the Seahorse. It’s a hidden gem in an industrial park! Indoor and patio seating. Had roasted beet salad and avocado toast. All delicious! Try with iced apricot tea. Daughter had a burger and loved the fries! Food seemed farm fresh. Service was great! Love the decor and the menu. Will go back again.

Great healthy food. Plenty of imagination used here both on the minuend the decor.Nice outdoor area, very cool helpful staff and pretty decent coffee.

Dont come here!

By Peter C |

Rude staff. Overpriced meals. Food was mediocre. Service was slow. Charged me for having a brownie I had since the food was taking awhile to come and I was hungry. Worst part was, $10 was added to my tab at the end of the meal without any warning. Never coming back

Family friendly but classy

By Rodahp |

Great place to come with the kids, have a green area with games and tables outside where you can eat/drink while they play. The food was good, nothing out of this world but still very good. service was excellent.

Great food good location

The Farmer & Seahorse is hidden on Torreyana. I've eaten here 3 times in the past month and the food is simple but amazing.

Love this spot!

By ErinP27 |

This is my new favorite spot for lunch during the week. It's so nice to sit outside on the patio on a nice day. The grounds are very pretty. I would love to try it for happy hour sometime or Sunday brunch. There is a nice bar outside as well as fire pits. It's very open and comfortable. The manager Clyde is always very friendly and welcoming. I had great service from Nicole and Anna. So far the service has been wonderful from the times I have been. The food was great, very fresh and high quality ingredients. I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts appetizer, the butternut squash lasagna and the butterscotch pot du crème. They are all delicious. I can't wait to go back!

Fun lunch

If you stay at the Lodge on Torrey Pines, or nearby, walk for lunch to Farmer and the Seahorse (10 minutes walk). Cool place with a nice outdoor patio, a room for groups carved out of a Airstream trailer, bio and vegan food. Enjoyable lunch while trying something new with a twist of fun:

Farm fresh & delicious

We enjoyed a delicious Saturday brunch in this beautiful spot. Comfortable & contemporary atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious.

Wonderful Outdoor Restaurant

By Michele C |

Awesome venue in a bit of a strange location. Lots of available parking. Great restaurant for large groups as well. Service was excellent, the Blueberry & Stracciatella was fabulous. Nutty Professor alcohol free beverages were great. Would not recommend Chiaquiles as the portion was smaller than expected. A must do when in San Diego.
