Something latino

Argentinian in San Antonio, the empanadas are great. They have different types and they even make spicy for the local crowd. Each empanada is baked when ordered. This is place where you can repeat without getting bored. Enjoy!

Nice warm and delicious empanadas

By MS |

We visited with a family including small children on a chilly December day in ‘22. E stopped by for lunch and ordered Beef and cheese, 2x Chicken spinach and cheese, Spicy chicken, Spicy beef, and Raja’s con Queso empanadas with 2 order of fries and 2 bottles of water and it came to $40.41. All of the empanadas were delicious and the kids loved the chicken spinach and cheese versions. Our favorites were the spicy chicken and the spicy beef. The spicy sauce was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice warm lunch and the staff is super friendly.

Empanadas are very filling

We ordered online and picked up our order the next morning. Everything went smoothly. The empanadas are very filling and good except the apple ones. I personally did not care for them. I had the spinach and cheese and beef and cheese and they were both very good.

Empanadas

Omg. Saw this place on Diners Drive in’s & Dives. It did not disappoint. The place is small but the empanadas were amazing. If you’re in San Antonio look this place up & go.

Full of flavor

Picked up online order without difficulty. Staff reminded me of baking instructions for my choice of cold empanadas. Generous fillings, crust just right and nice serving size. I could not tell type of filling, but I ordered a variety of savory ingredients I would like.

Perhaps the best in town

These are baked in a very hot oven much like a pizza oven. We ordered take out but had a "sample" while there. Our order was ready in less than 15 minutes. Tried the beef/potato (10) and guava (10) empanadas. The beef empanadas were FULL of meat spiced very well, the meat appears of great quality as the empanadas were not greasy nor wet. The dough is thin but holds the empanadas very well. They offer a spicy and regular chimichurri both very good. The guava empanadas are full of gooey mixture of guava with cream cheese. Will go back to try other items from their menu. Parking can be difficult. Staff is super attentive and friendly.

Amazing!!

Best empanadas EVER!

Best empanadas we’ve ever had! Flakey and delicious crust with lots of scrumptious filling inside. Friendly staff, easy ordering, incredibly fast service, just an all around fabulous experience. Traditional bottled sodas and simple dining area felt like we were home in Guatemala. Loved every minute of this meal!

Fantastic Empanadas & the most delicious Chimichurri sauce ever!

So I will preface this by saying I am a lover of empanadas. I mean bread/dough stuffed with whatever magic you can imagine, what’s not to love? That being said, my Girlfriend & I decided to give this place a try while on our trip to San Antonio. This place was on Triple D for those of you familiar with Guy Fieri & his frosted tips. Needless to say, I was excited & Fat tummy did not disappoint at all. Everything we ate was fantastic & the house made Chimichurri was out of control delicious. We tried the beef, spicy chicken & ham & cheese empanadas & all were fantastic. My Girlfriend, not doing too much spicy, loved the beef & myself, loving everything spicy, was a fan of all three. The spicy chicken was my favorite though! We also tried a steak sandwich & that was great too, but the star of the show is the empanadas & that wonderful Chimichurri sauce. The Chimichurri sauce can go on anything & everything in my personal opinion. If you are in San Antonio, I suggest you try Fat Tummy empanadas, you’ll be glad you did. & by the way, I went back for a “Humita” empanada to go, which is a vegetarian option, & it was excellent as well!

Best Empanadas in San Antonio

A friend told us he had seen Fat Tummy Empanadas on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives and recommended we check it out. Weeks went by before we journeyed over for lunch. Our expectations were mixed. Most of the DDD restaurants we had tried were over rated. Well… not Fat Tummy! I had read that their name is Fat Tummy because the empanadas are so full of fillings that they look like they have a fat tummy. Because they are so large, most people can eat 1-2. My husband and I ordered 4: traditional beef, chile poblano & cheese, spicy chicken, and chicken & spinach. Each came with two kinds of chimichurri dipping sauce. The crust is thin and flaky and flavorful and it is stuffed with filling. Our favorites are traditional beef and poblano & cheese. 1.5 empanadas each would have been just right, and we didn’t have any fries, chips, or sweet empanadas for dessert. We even brought some home with us to freeze and eat another day. Fat Tummy is near The Basilica of The Little Flower - you could walk there from the restaurant. Staff is really nice & helpful. Food is delivered to your table, hot out of the oven. We enjoyed our lunch at Fat Tummy. Hope you do too.

Delicious Empanadas!

We learned about this place on Triple D (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives). Their specialty is empanadas with an Argentinian flare. I had the beef and potato. My husband had the traditional. Both were excellent, filling but not heavy. The owner is hands-on and very friendly. The waitstaff was very upbeat. Located in the older section of town, the building itself has seen younger days. It adds to the character of the whole empanada experience!!

Delicioso!!

Not as impressed as i thought i would be ...

saw this place on Diners Drive In's and Dives drove from Houston specifically to eat here .. it was more in the "dive" category but i was actually excited about that considering most "dives" have the BEST food. This food was just average. My favorite one was the corn w/ cheesey goodness other than that most the others were pretty plain. I'd say it's worth a try once. The waitress was GREAT and very friendly.

Empanadas!!!

Love them all with the exception of the Spinach one, for me it had way way to much spinach for my taste. The dessert ones were all fantastic however the best one was the Dulce de leche. Oh my gosh was it good!! If ya have time run a couple of miles outside of San Antonio to try this place it was good!

Tiny Place, Empanandas Done Right

By 2fromTX |

This tiny restaurant is West of downtown and located in a small house-like restaurant that had their food trailer out front when we stopped in for lunch (to help you find it.) There's a few parking spots in front, a few on the side of of the building, and several on the side street. It would definitely qualify as a hole in the wall. The small dining area has a half dozen ordinary tables and not much more, so come for the food and the friendly service. Somebody will come to your table and take your order when you're redy. The menu has a dozen or so empanadas, some savory, some sweet, and some other items that I didn't pay much attention to -- because, you know, it's an empanada place. It was my first visit here so I tried the humita, a corn and cheesy empanada, along with the beef and potato empananda. Both were done really well, with a thin crust that held the ingredients well and somehow was both soft and toasty at the same time. A small portion of chimichurri comes with the order, and I would recommend the spicy one to give the meat a little pep. Two of these empanandas was plenty - in fact one and a half would have been a meal. If you've had empanadas on your travels, get your fix here - this is as close as you'll get to the Argentine style in San Antonio.

Comfort food in a pie crust

My SHH and I were looking for something new to try, so we looked up DDD in San Antonio and this place came up. We gave it a googe and decided to give it a go. Oh! My! Stars! All I can say is, “Stop what you are doing and go there now!”. No, really. Go! We each had two - traditional beef and beef and potato for me, beef and cheese and spicy beef for the SHH - and shared an order of fries and came away stuffed and happy. We threw in a couple of Big Reds (the national drink of San Antonio) and came out for around $25 (including tip).

A Great Spot. - Found a Gem

Family run. Great food. This restaurant is a legend in the making for San Antonio. Pumpkin empenada was very well spiced. Loved the spinach and cheese also. Do not pass up this gem.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Spicy good

Hole in the wall is making delicious empanadas. Empanadas are cook to order and have a generous amount of filler. I had the spicy chicken empanada and it had a great spicy taste without so hot you can't eat it. Definitely worth a visit.
