Good mexican food.

By Linda5355 |

We enjoyed our dinner here with a large group. The staff did a fabulous job serving us. I had fajitas and they were very good. Everyone seemed happy with their food.

Great Family Dinner

By tr3mami |

Loved the chips and dips and all the delicious food. The enchiladas and sour cream sauce was delicious and the street tacos hit the spot.

Good food

By Xxaaronxx |

It was good food but kinda expensive I’ve been to better places that was the same price point as this. I will say the guacamole bowl was huge and amazing… they served chips with three difference sauces which was interesting

not much flavor

By @IlovetheCaribbeannow |

We always love to get Mexican/ Tex Mex when visiting Dallas. The salsas were bland- all of them. The tortillas were good, guacamole average. My fajitas was a sizzling plate covered, I mean covered thick with onions. A few slices of chicken and maybe 4 little shrimp on top. The chicken was tasteless and the onions seem steamed as did the chicken- not charring or grilled flavor at all. So disappointed. Also...there were 4 or 5 slices of potato on top of my chicken. No veggies- what? The other dishes with my company felt the same about there dishes. Disappointed. Oh- and it was extremely busy. Between the waiters and the people going back and forth from the kitchen, I had to watch my back. They literally carry the full trays of food up on one hand, up and over the heads of people at the tables they are walking past. Scary. I guess they have had no issues there. And the noise level is immense. Tough to hear people at our table.

great food and service

By TallTexan75229 |

I've been to this Fernando's location on Midway and NW Hwy several times, and all times the food has been great. This last time I had the fish tacos, which are actually the best I've had in town. Delicious! Their chips and multiple salsas are good (and different), and they have a nice menu of various options. The prices are higher than most Mexican restaurants. I think they have higher quality food, so I'm a little more comfortable than I normally would be, however be aware that this isn't a cheap night out. The same goes for the margaritas... some of the priciest around. The crowd is upscale that you'd expect from this location being where it is. Their service is always attentive, they get it right, and very polite. They get an A+ for their service.

Good food. Great service.

By MiddleAgeWhiteGuy |

The food is always good. The weekly specials are very good but kind of pricey. Service is tops here as are the margaritas.

👍 Good Mexican Food

By CDM49 |

Unfortunately we only did takeout but the food was delicious. We called our order in and it was ready as promised. Portions were decent size. Would like to try eating dinner there some time in the future. Restaurant is in a shopping area so parking is on problem.

Excellent Dinner

By KU-Gabe |

We went to Fernando's to celebrate with family and friends. It was a beautiful evening with a nice breeze, so we chose to eat outdoors. Our waiter provided great service; he was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Our party ordered a couple of Josefinas (chimichangas), shrimp quesadillas Cancun, Mexican shrimp cocktail, Milanesa (breaded fried beef steak), and Salmon del Valle. (See photos.) Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The food was tasty and well prepared. The portion sizes were large. It was a delightful experience. I highly recommend Fernando's.

Great Food - Outstanding Customer Service - Really Good Happy Hour

By C2J4H |

In addition to the great food offered at Fernando's, the customer service is truly exceptional. The wait staff goes beyond in trying to please. Additionally, they have a very good happy hour, so enjoy!

Excellent Tex-Mex

By Kimberly S |

This place has the best Tex-Mex in the city! The chips are yummy, you get three different sauces and every dish we have eaten outdoes the past! The only drawback is it is very noisy because of all the kiddos. No one seems to their kids manners these days. Their margaritas seem to help with that! Seriously-some of the best food you will eat in Dallas!

Meh

By Cara C |

Salsa is bland. Queso is bland. Everything was good, but it was all bland with no real flavor. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't return.

Best Salsas

By CS1Portland |

Busy spot with enough staff to give super efficient service. Turning tables and cleaning up as they went along we were quite impressed. Loved the 4 salsas non greasy chips. Salads good and brunch egg items delicious. Very good value and tasty food. Margartas good but even better price

Terrific brunch!

By neluv05 |

I had family in town and we enjoyed brunch at Fernando's. It was very festive resulting in it being very busy; therefore, the wait and the service was not the best. We dined from the brunch menu including one entree from the main menu (stuffed shrimp). We also enjoyed the chips which were very crispy and fresh along with queso. The drink specials were unbelievable and the cocktails were incredible! We truly enjoyed the swirls.

Excellent!

By Neil G |

I come here with colleagues and clients at least weekly. Everyone is so friendly and attentive and the food is consistently great! Love the red salsa and chips! Definitely a go-to for anyone in the area. Great patio spot as well!!

World class Tex Mex

By Donna C |

Located in a bustling neighborhood in Cochran Chapel near Northwest Highway and Dallas North Tollway. Killer margaritas, exquisite shrimp stuffed with crabmeat, delicious bacon wrapped appetizer...and that was just our first visit! Been back twice for lunch and dinner with same pleasing results. Patio seating is very nice also.

Fantastic Salsa and amazing skinny margarita !!

By Dreamer468057 |

Love this place as food quality is consistent and wait staff provides great service !!!! Menu provides Mexico City Specialties not found in most Mexican Food Restaurants :-)

Great Brunch Spot in Dallas

By Mykalt45 |

We love to eat Fernando's on the weekend. The food is decent, and we really love their green sauce for the chips. The best reason to go is for the drinks. They have a selection of drinks that are 4 for $8. They range from mimosas and mojitos and more. The glasses are huge and the drinks are strong. Great way to have brunch!

Great salsa and chips

By Dallas_newbie |

The variety of salsas was very good and almost could be meal. Corn tortillas good. Fajitas had more onions and green peppers than meat. Extremely attentive staff., Only went once, would try again.

Wait, wait, wait, seated, wait, wait, wait, chips, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, great food!

By dtx75220 |

Currently visit frequently, this location since first opening and its expansion into parking lot for a patio area. The food is fresh, tasty, and is the best Upscale Mexican food in Dallas. Very consistent food, everyone likes what they order, the drinks are above average the meal is really good. Not your average Mexican cafe, more Mexico City with white table cloths, modern art it is sophisticated dinning in a casual environment. The management will take care of you if there is any problem with your meal, they want you to have an enjoyable meal and will do what ever it make sure you leave with a smile. Outstanding managers on duty. The main challenge at this location is it will be packed with Parkies and Preston hollow's..expect 20-30 min. wait for any table. Even though they have 25 people working there you will wait for chips, drinks, when it's not packed at off peak times the food flies out the back in 10 min. But when the place is full you'll be waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Most entrees are $14 or above, for 3 beef crispy tacos with beans and rice. There cost has to be less than $3, Mr Fernado is raking in the cash as he owns 3 restaurants in Dallas, one in Mexico, and somewhere else. You can tell the waiters are working for the tips which can be really large at these prices, but the support staff are probably getting minimum wage from their attitudes and lack of intrest. Same old story, share the wealth and the team works better together. It's dysfunctional in their current condition, the waiters need the support staff to pull off the dinning experience. Your paying for it, you should get chips, water and drinks within a timely fashion once seated 20 min. Is not acceptable. I will not be dinning there, but will myself phone in my to go order and pick it up at the bar.

BAD HOSTESS

By Dulce L |

We went for brunch today Sunday may 14th 2016 around 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm and the guy who was seating the people (hostess) was very rude and discriminatory to us, as soon as we walked in he looked at us like we weren't good enough for the place maybe because we are Hispanics (proud) and don't have the American look and the funny part it's that he is hispanic too and looks more than us. He took us to our table and just throw the menus to the table in a very mean way he wasn't any nice. After that One of the waitress, Joel who was super nice came to us and asked us if everything was ok and we did tell him what happened and he talked to the manager and came to us and offer us an apology for the way we were treated at first. THANK YOU to our sweet waiter Joel and the manager of the restaurant for trying to fix this problem. If it sad to be treated in a racist way for any person, It's even worse to know that people from your same country treat you like that. The food and our waiter AMAZING Sad part the hostess

Nice outside dining area, great food & service: recommended

By jurgenlison |

The patio of Fernando's is on the second floor overlooking Travis Street - around Knox Street / McKinney Avenue, a walk-able area with unique shops and plenty of restaurants. We were planning to visit Villa-O next door, but the unique patio pulled us in - and we had no regrets at all. Authentic Mexican dishes and good service - including custom made cocktails prepared on the spot by the bartender. I had the Crab fillet shrimp... mmm. Brunch end at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday - and has plenty of drink specials to enjoy with your meal. We will definitely go back.

Excellent late lunch

By HockeyTravelGuy |

I found this place on TripAdvisor and stopped in for a late lunch after having business in the area. Upon arrival I was quickly seated and asked my preference of drink. The frozen margarita was quickly served and was quite good. It was so cold that it was hard to use a straw to drink it for the first few minutes. This was fine by me given the close to 110 degree temps outside. Chips and 4 salsas were also quickly delivered and I enjoyed all 4 of them. From a spicy and Smokey chipotle to a creamier avocado salsa. The waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and quickly and easily answered questions with needed to look at the menu. I ordered one of the lunch specials and asked to add a beef taco. This wasn’t an issue and my food was on the table in approx 10 minutes. The enchiladas were quite good without being greasy. The taco was still warm and served with all of the fixings on the side so I could add what I liked. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Unique salsa with great food.

By Okiedevildog |

Very nice location and establishment with friendly and courteous staff with the option of outdoor seating. Very impressed with the prompt service our drinks never went half filled. Chips was fresh and crispy and served with 4 different flavors of salsa. Enjoyed them all. Food was great; taco meat was seasoned well and packed full of meat, enchiladas was good as well and the rice was tender and robust. This place is worth the dinning experience but is higher on the price range. But affordable. Enjoy

Sizzling fajitas, friendly staff!

By beachcomber1947 |

Seven of us including 3 children ate here on Sunday night before the Dallas Street Choir performance. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff, especially to the children. The restaurant has a very nice outside patio for dining, but it was a little cool so we sat inside. My wife and I split the chicken fajitas as did my son and his wife. The children had queso and tons of chips plus children plates of tacos and chicken tenders. The hips and salsa were a big hit with the adults. Each salsa plate had 4 containers with different salsas, all delicious. The fajitas came out hot and sizzling with ample chicken and complements for two people. House Margaritas were just average which was the only thing that wasn't perfecto. The waitress said the kids were so good she gave them free ice cream for dessert, even fashioning a drip-free cup for the 2-year old to eat her ice cream on a stick. The overall ambience, food quality, and friendliness of the staff warrants a rare excellent rating from me.

Very tasty and quick!

We stopped in for lunch on a beautiful day and we able to eat outside on their patio. The server was friendly and very efficient! The food was authentic mexican and delicious and we enjoy of meals! We will come back!

Upscale Mexican

By DavidAdamsTX |

Great experience with family and friends. Nice setting, cloth tablecloths, immediately greeted and seated. Welcomed with fresh warm chips and Fernando's four sauces. All had unique flavors, disagree with other reviews claiming bland taste. Endless iced tea, great entrees for the group. Excellent service, owner traveled to each table to check on his patrons. Great crowd, would definitely come back!

Good food

By Deja Vu |

First time trying Fernandos franchise restaurants , everytime I walked by one it’s always packed at lunch time . Finally has a chance to sit down outside and enjoy it with friends. The service here was pleasant and food was satisfying. Drinks was also good here especially the margaritas.

Good upscale Mexican

By Berrythree |

We visited the Travis location in Uptown area. Really good upscale, upper price range Mexican. Flaming cheese among the best I have ever had. Four salsa flavors with the chips is a nice touch. Fish tacos different than standard and quite flavorful. Rest of the group had combo plates which they liked. I just can't justify the price for an environment and food that is not above many other mid price Mexican restaurants with more character at lower price.

Good spot for lunch

By Rick H |

I was looking for a Tex-Mex place near my office and saw Fernado's driving by and stopped in to give them a try. The place has a nice inside area and also a nice patio area. As with most Tex-Mex places, they start you off with chips and salsa. The surprise was that they gave me 4 different dips. All were really good and unique! I tried their spinach enchilada lunch special which comes with two spinach enchiladas, rice and beans and ice tea is included for about $10. I got the enchiladas with ranchero sauce. While it was good, I would probably preferred cheese sauce. The service was very prompt and my glass never went dry! Overall, a nice place for lunch.

Excellent Tex-Mex + authentic Mexican cuisine

By ChuckDallas |

Everybody has a favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and for many that place is Fernando's. An endless supply of chips and salsas will appear at your table. The menu is varied and the food is very good. Service is efficient. It can be jammed and reservations are not an option so if you are arriving at 7:00 pm Friday through Sunday be prepared to wait 30 or so minutes.

Mexican food/Chuck E Cheese

By TXHotelSnob |

I have gone here since it opened a few years ago and have always liked the food. It's sort of a neighborhood gem that was never crowded and always a consistently good meal. We went last night, however, and it was like an amusement park feel when we walked in there. I couldn't believe how loud it was and how many children there were, balloons. I actually flinched when the door opened to that because it wasn't what I expected or was looking for. My husband and I could barely hear each other because of the noise and, on top of the crowd noise, they had music on! Our waiter was actually quite rude and snooty. This place has changed for the worse, in my opinion. We were disappointed all around. If you have young babies/children and don't feel comfortable taking them anywhere else because they scream and make a huge mess around your table, come here and you'll fit right in! Side note, $15 QUESADILLAS - really?

Great food, great service, great prices. GO

By Paul M |

Our daughter, son-in-law and their children live near here. We visit a few times a year. We NEVER miss a dinner at Fernandos. The food is always great. The service superb.

Long time customer

By Diane |

I've taken many friends and guests to this restaurant over the years. This restaurant does not decline in standards of quality like so many do. The dining area is not noisy, and is well decorated with color and light. Service is very good, as well as the food.

Giving up

By HI1959 |

We have visited this restaurant many times with friends and ourselves and it constantly disappoints. Today was the last straw, both of our entrees were terrible and we actually caught the bar tender supplementing cheap Triple sec instead of Cointreau that the Mexican Martini is supposed to have as an ingredient...it was obvious they were caught/guilty ( won't go there as it has happened previously). We really want to like this place..it just won't happen. It's not overpriced, it's just always been an overhyped neighborhood Mexican restaurant.

It's ok

By nessas98 |

This place is not authentic Mexican to me . Seemed like an overpriced tacobell when it came to my dish. The margaritas are good but for food this place is ok . Not a place I would run to for Mexican food. On the upside the service is great

Party of 11

By rhpatt29 |

Fernando’s is solid TEX Mex food. We had a large party for Sunday brunch. Not an egg eater, of course, I had a special request. Breakfast tacos with the eggs in the side (my wife likes eggs). No problem. The staff is very accommodating and the request was not a problem. Very good food and excellent service.

Fabulouso!!!

By Texsons |

Great Mexican food restaurant! This was our first visit - food is super fresh, the quacamole and tortilla soup is outstanding ! The drinks were good ( skinny margarita and they have great tea) and waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. We even met Fernando! I have great respect for an owner that is there at night ( a Monday night) looking over everything and greeting customers with a smile. We will be back for sure!

Great mix of TexMex & Mexico City food

By Zotemail |

Without a doubt my favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas. When I want light TexMex (yes, there is such a thing), I order the Cha Cha platter with two chicken chalupas. When I want something more hearty, I order one of the steak dishes or the chicken mole (tied with Cafe Veracruz for the best mole in town). House frozen margaritas round out the meal. Getting hungry just writing the review. Not cheap, but good food.

Great place

By Beach_Baby2006 |

Went for a glass of wine and some apps. Wine was a bit pricey but good selection. It's obviously a neighborhood place; it was busy and people of all ages there and having a good time. Service was great and I loved the several salsas that came with good and freshly made chips. Food presentation was nice and I hope to be back.

Birthday celebration

Great place for Tex Mex. The staff was great for our party of 10. The appetizers and drinks were great. It was a big hit for our birthday girl

Awesome Lunch

By irmechanic |

Visited for lunch and the food and service was excellent. The chicken enchiladas with the sour cream sauce is absolutely amazing.

Tuesday night Half price fajitas

By Ron S |

Went on a Tuesday night to check out the half price fajitas. Arrived at about 7:00PM to find a moderate crowd in the restaurant. Our party of three was seated almost immediatel, and in no time a warm basket of chips and a plate with four different salsa arrived. Waiter appeared promptly and took our drink order which arrived quickly. We all had beer, but there appeared to be a well stocked full bar at the ready. We all had the fajitas, which again, appeared promptly on sizzleing iron platters. The fajita meat was atop a nice portion of onions and bell peppers. There was a plate of beans and rice, and a plate with a nice portion of guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. It was all fine and acceptable. My one complaint is with the tortillas. They were the usual mass produced, commercial variety. There are just too many good tortillarias around to serve bad, or even mediocre, ones. Three orders of fajitas and a round of beers for a little over $30.00, not bad.

Best Mexican Food in Dallas

By shirgirl43 |

The food is fantastic and the staff is efficient and hospitable. Unfortunately the prices continue to increase and are no longer in line with good and affordable Mexican Food on a retirees income. The price increases do not seem to phase the Park Cities clientele so it is always packed.

Can we get some service!

By SmithDrKat |

Well the day before Cinco d'Mayo we decided to try this place out and what a disappointment! We opted for the patio and was seated and waited. And waited. And waited still some more until finally someone brought us chips and salsa. Waited some more for water or to order. A guy at a table next to us went inside to order. Later I asked my husband to check to see if the patio was self serve (lol). We saw others being served even though WE were seated before them, but did not make a fuss, we just got up and left. Pathetic.

Good Mexican

By Katie A |

Good food!!! Great portions and a great place to be!! Friendly staff and lots of locals that go there a lot!!

OMG! The Brisket Tacos Were the Bomb

By Rabalicious |

I stopped here to kill some time. My flight had been canceled earlier that day, so I was waiting for the evening standby near Love Field and I happen to come across this place. OMG! The brisket tacos lunch special is SO good. Actually, everything I ate was delicious, but the tacos were the best. And the assortment of different salsas was a nice touch.

great lunch spot with grandsons

By anesdocno1 |

Fernando's on NW Highway is a great spot for lunch on the patio with grandchildren.....plenty of shade, coupled with delicious Tex-Mex food, excellent service, and the wonderful fruit paletas (fruit bars) for the boys after lunch...just make sure they eat them BEFORE riding in the car! :-)

Delightful Patio Dinner

By mshbnyehud |

Fernando's has an expansive heated outdoor patio which my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed on a recent busy weekend. And, by the way, the food was delicious as well. Plus service was impeccable. Enough said? We waited for 20 minutes (no reservations offered) for a table for 2 on the patio, the amount of time estimated to wait upon arrival. The overhead heaters were effective. Chips and 3 types of salsa were delivered immediately, drink orders taken and an appetizer (guacamole). The "Anita Rita Silver" margarita was delicious and potent! Guacamole was very substantial and very tasty. We split an order of chicken fajitas, more than enough for 2 persons, juicy and filling. Great choice! The only mistake was that refried beans were delivered when whole pinto beans had been ordered. This was rectified within one minute when a cup of whole beans was delivered. Fernando's is fairly priced for what you get. I can't wait to return particularly during Covid when outdoor dining is so very important.

Yummy

By Dianne W |

Very good neighborhood Mexican Restaurant. The wait staff are very friendly and deal excellently with children. the food is very good too.

Consistently good.

By Mark C |

After numerous visits to Fernando's, you get used to the consistently great service, the excellent fresh food, the perfect sauces to go with fresh chips. It's nice after so inconsistent experiences elsewhere in the Metroplex, this one remains great.

A great Sunday Brunch

By Michael E |

The food and service was spectacular in every way. The salsa selection was out of this world. I will be back ASAP...

Good Value

By Jetdrive1145 |

A favorite spot for many years. The original on Midway and NW Hwy is great! The Travis Walk store is getting there on the food end but has a much more festive atmosphere.

Mexican Food Dinner

By cheermom369 |

Went to the location on Northwest Highway. We had a large party over 10 people and the service was great. We didn't have to wait long for anything. Great Margarita's and the Mexican Coffee was excellent! My son ordered "The Hector" a chicken chile relleno, which was really good, my daughter had " The Maria" enchilades with a sour cream sauce. I had the Huevos Rancheros, it is one of my favorite dishes and it is on the menu, not just for breakfast, but I was a little disappointed. A couple of us order the Mole, I am not a big Mole fan, but this was one of the best I have ever tasted, I wish I had ordered it. Not sure what everyone else ordered, but everyone said they liked it. Located in a nice shopping center, we went to the bakery across the parking lot after to pick up some goodies

Neighborhood spot that is strangely busy.

By pgsanjay |

The food is fine...nothing to write home about, just fine. There can be long waits for a table if you don't beat the hordes of upper-class clientele that is decidedly not Mexican. I hear the drinks are strong - but if that's what you look for in a restaurant, this isn't the review for you. The price tag is high - for generic Tex-Mex food, considering other options in the zip code can be had for half the price and are just better. The atmosphere is also blah - think generic art, crowded dining room, noisy. I guess you can call it "family friendly". I have never understood the long wait for a table. If you happen to drive by and see a crowd waiting, move on.

Favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas

By Trina D |

I was getting really sick of Tex Mex working in Dallas for eight month last year. Living in Los Angeles and being a Californian too long has jaded me against Tex Mex. Then we found Fernando's. It is delicious and one of the only restaurants I miss eating at regularly.

Cold Food and Poor Management of Intoxicated Patrons

By James A |

I have visited this previously excellent restaurant many times for over 10 years. The food and service are usually excellent, and I have recommended Fernando's to many others. Tonight's experience proved the opposite, unfortunately. I brought my 77 year old mother, and we were seated close to a table with 3 loud and clearly intoxicated women. I gave them a few minutes to quiet down, but they became louder. Another table was also visibly annoyed. I told the manager, Miguel, that I would call the police if he did not remove the women from the restaurant for public intoxication, and he only had them relocated outside. Over the next hour, the women passed our table en route to the restroom multiple times and made visible and audible taunts towards my mother. I told Miguel and another manager, Marcus, that they had managed the situation poorly, as patrons such as these should be removed immediately. My mother also feared the women would approach her as we left the restaurant. Miguel stated I had aggravated the situation, but that was not the case; I simply addressed what the managers had failed to do. Miguel also said the women had only had 2 drinks, but I explained as a physician that could not be true given their level of intoxication; he then clarified they had only had 2 drinks "at the restaurant." Neither manager offered a refund for the evening, but I requested it from Marcus as I left; he then obliged and voided my check. The dish I always ordered was delivered cold tonight, which has never happened. I requested a new plate, however the waiter only heated up my original one. I had to request a new dish a second time. I told the managers I would write this review tonight and notify Fernando's owner. Also, the other table above congratulated me for addressing the situation with the managers. I look forward to visiting again if I hear from the owner and he has installed new management.
