Paris in your backyard

By angelia m |

The ambience and décor are so welcoming. Many a long night have been spent here talking until closing over a cozy pot of tea and amazing French pastries. Under new management with all new staff, gone are the nose-in-the-air, wanna-be actors/wait staff.

A port in a storm

By Jenny G |

Visiting from Sydney and did not expect torrential rain! Luckily we found the warm and cosy Figaro in Los Feliz. A lovely venue with good food and staff. We had lunch - a baguette and crepe. Both great and generous serves. Close to the Vintage movie complex which is also recommended.

A taste of France in Loz Felizzz

By pascalfrenchbear |

Ended up by chance in this french looking restaurant in "loz feliz". I like the outside tables on the street even if there is sometimes a little bit of traffic on Vermont and the chairs and tables are not extremely comfortable. I like the decor, the layout of the place divided in 3 zones : lounge, patisserie, dining room. I like the french waiters and the french crowd visiting the place bring a friendly atmosphere. One Sunday morning 2 french young ladies where sipping with a lot of pleasure a bottle of french white sancere and it made me think that there is still hope in this Iphone world... I tried : - Pain au chocolat and croissant with café au lait. Very good even if the café au lait is extremely large. - Eggs Benedict : not the best of my life but very decent - Salmon omelet : correct - Steak tartare : Not good at all - the meat was grounded too much, the seasoning was wrong : no capers, no onions, no taste ! - the more the french fries where absolutely dreadfull (almost raw, cooked in an old oil) - terrible experience. I mention all my disappointment to the waiter. The following day the same french fries were very good. - the éclair au chocolat was very decent. This place could probably be much better if the owners where paying a bit more attention to the quality of the food. For instance the salads around the omelets or eggs have no dressing. The waiters are all great. Vive la France...

This is a fabulous restaurant! The sea food was so good. Just good quality food. I had a creme brulee in a crepe!!! it was pure heaven!

C'est magnifique!

I go there for the Croque Madame and the pastries. Remove the egg and you have a Croque Monsieur, which I also love.

If I'm in L.A., I go to Figaros

By Mark J |

With family now in L.A., we have found ourselves visiting the last two summers. Last year, we were treated to Happy Hour at Figaros. We sat at the sidewalk tables and thoroughly enjoyed the wine and hors d'oeuvres, and the very reasonable price. The weather in L.A.is always great, making sidewalk dining a great opportunity to enjoy the weather. Plus, in Los Feliz, it's a great spot for 'people watching,' especially since seemingly everybody who comes by is friendly. There's just a great atmosphere. Well, that was last year. When we returned to L.A. this summer, we insisted on returning to Figaros. Again, another great experience. Great people, great food, great drinks, great environment. I highly recommend it (except when I'm in town, because I want to assure myself one of the sidewalk tables!).

Love everything about it. Always have. One of my favorites.

Cafe figaro on Vermont rocking happy hour

By Suzan C |

This great french bistro does an incredible happy hour with $5 champagne and $4 wines and beers ... incredible moules, and escargot and mini sliders .. go before a visit to Sklight Books [two doors up] or Los Feliz Three .. feels like you're actually in France!

DELICIOUS!!! Yes, yes, yes....

The restaurant is easily accessible with parking all around. Service was good but the food was DELICIOUS!! They had a wonderful bakery counter as well.

French Flies?

By melobeam |

The Skinny: Parking- street if you are lucky, $5 lot next block over Decor- aged mirrors, brass railings Restroom- gas station level of cleanliness Service- French accent a nice touch Food- Average I was excited to try this French Bistro in the Los Feliz area. Parking was a little trying but there was a lot nearby that was $5. We got there at 6pm and I wanted to sit outside but the sun was pounding the front of the restaurant so we opted for a cozy table in the back. Our first table was broken so they moved us to another table. The second table was also wobbly but they managed to fix it. The waiter was very charming and had a terrific French accent which was sadly lacking in the the rest of the wait staff. We ordered: Crab Cakes: my hubby liked the crab cakes but we both were put off by the salad that comes with, very strange flavors Steak Salad: decent size salad but the meat was not tender, just so so Seafood Cassoulet: the best dish we had, warm and creamy and flavorful (20min to make) Mussels: While the mussels were ok, the pot they came in had a weird off putting smell, the broth was also so so, I expected something better like what I had at Perch Despite being inside, we were surrounded by flies. There is nothing that ruins your meal more than waving flies off everything the whole meal. There was a mix up of checks as well but the waiter smoothed that over. All in all it was average at best.

Great for an afternoon glass of wine. I've never had a good food experience here, and long suspected that the french speakers may be the only ones that get friendly, attentive service.

Good drinks, fast “good food” walk to a movie

By Avery Martinez |

Classic European bar (direct from Paris) circa 1950’s. Good food, real French fries, Fresh bread and pastries, clams. They have it all and more, just ask. I got chorizo clams last time, spicy and good. Walk to a movie after.

Great for casual French!

Had tow visits! One for cafe au last and another for lunch! This is a classic french bistro and the food/drinks and very good. Great sidewalk seating if you want to people watch in Los Feliz!

LA Transport to Paris in 10 Minutes - Best desert ever !

By Avery Martinez |

Just 5 minutes from the Hollywood Hotel, is a best kept Parisian bistro complete with genuine floors, lights, bars, tables and bar. I've run past Figaro many times and couldn't finish my run as the smell was so unbelievably good. So my wife and I, looking for an awesome dinner to celebrate my son's swearing in to the Ca Bar stopped at Figaro the other night. Its also our one year anniversary from visiting Paris and we couldn't have been more happy! We started with a nice French Bordeaux and Escargot. Open your eyes and you're back in Paris; even the menu is partially in French. We had a caramelized lamb shank and a terrific Slap Steak I wasn't prepared for; tender, rare and tasty. Gillian our waitress had a nice French accent and was very attentive and directed us to the best desert you could ask for, a Creme Brule Crepe. While everyone has creme Brule, you don't get it in soft, sweet crepe any other place. A unique must desert in LA. Thanks Gillian!

Relaxed friendly atmosphere/exceptional patisseries/reasonable prices

By upod2 |

I have been three times now, December 2019 and twice in February 2020. I have had a lunch, an afternoon coffee and cake (mille feuilles) and an early evening dinner (steak frites). The bistrot has captured the essence of a genuine French bistrot. The portions are generous and presentation is as one would expect in a bistrot and the food is delicious and that goes for their bread too. The staff are friendly (some even speak French) and food is bistrot typical but better. And the patisseries are superb. Prices are very reasonable too. I would include the Figaro in every trip to LA at least once. There is also a happy hour between 5pm and 7pm (to be confirmed)

Return to Figaro

By jean louis D |

Take the perfect sunny Mid Afternoon on a Lazy Sunday and go to Figaro for their Happy Hour special menu with tantalizing dishes and special rate beverages. The Steak tartare with the hot French fries is still my favorite. keep some room for he freshly baked pastries . I could do with some slightly lower level for the music in the main dining room by the bar, it makes conversation a bit more difficult.

Great atmosphere and food

By BrianH40 |

Stopped here for lunch one sunny afternoon in January. Service is very good and the location great, particularly if you can get a table outside on the street. We had great baguettes and coffees but the desserts nearly steal the show.

Cafe au Lait, croissants and people watching

By Cathy A |

My favorite spot for a morning meal in Los Feliz. A big bowl of steaming cafe au lait is my favorite, and the croissants are terrific. Apres midi I went with my son and his girlfriend for a delicious brunch - smoked salmon, omlettes, lovely bread basket. Sit outside to enjoy the people watching, inside in the bistro area near the bar to relax on your own or with friends. This isn't my first choice for dinner, but I love it for breakfast and lunch.

French bistro atmosphere

By Traveler568208 |

Dined here for Sunday dinner and chose it based on Travel Advisor reviews. Was surprised just how crowded it was for a Sunday evening. Do not know if it is always that way, or it just happened to be that evening, so make reservations. (Thankfully we did). Having been to Paris, I can say that it definitely captures the look and feel of a cafe or bistro in the Latin Quarter. In spite of them being severely understaffed, our waitress did her best to be attentive. (I wish I could remember her name so I could compliment her here). Fortunately we were not in a hurry, because it took quite a bit of time to get our food-- well over 30 minutes *after* we had finished our appetizers. Our appetizers were the imported French cheese plate and escargots. The escargots tasted very good, however, were inconsistently cooked. Of the 6 we were given, 1 was chewy, 3 were perfect, and 2 were somewhat "crispy." For dinner, my husband had the duck breast done medium rare and it was fabulous. The potatoes that came with it, however, were not. They were undercooked, and so therefore went uneaten. I had the beouf bourguignon. Again there was an issue with inconsistencies. The beef itself had perfect taste and texture, however, by the time it was served to me, it was near cold on top but a decent temperature underneath. (My guess at how this happened is that they plated my food, then cooked my husband's duck, when in reality they should have cooked the duck then plated my food so that they were both hot when served). The fettuccini that was served was undercooked and barely edible. It was left mostly uneaten for that reason. Our waitress was apologetic for my dish being partially cold and undercooked and offered to return it to the kitchen, but I declined as we had already waited so long to get our food. Due to the kitchen issues, they comped us dessert. The creme brûlée was quite good, and the pistachio cheesecake was outstanding. As I've said, the food tasted very good, there was just inconsistencies with the cooking. I can only attribute that to being exceedingly understaffed both in the kitchen and out on the floor. Having only been here once, I do not know if this is a continuing issue or we just landed there on a difficult night. Will definitely give them another try, though, and recommend them to others with the caveat- do not go if you're in a hurry.

A little french spot

You feel like in a real Parisian Bistrot as the decor its originally from France. I love the atmosphere, the hostess and waiters are friendly, well trained. The food is excellent! In house baked bread :)

Funky cute French Cafe in Los Feliz.

By ponyonmyboat |

Thrilled to find this little restaurant in Los Feliz. Very small space with a few outdoor tables. Cute shabby chic decor with great lighting, comfortable seating and wonderful atmosphere. We all enjoyed our dishes. I had the salmon served with asparagus and lentils and it was wonderfully prepared, not overcooked. Service is excellent and prices are moderate.

Amazing French Food

By Rebrob1234 |

We were visiting LA with family and after a very cold day sightseeing we were all hungry for some hearty food. We found this little place as it looked very inviting as we drove past. Inside is very authentic in decor and there is a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was excellent...hearty and authentic french cuisine and everyone said they really enjoyed everything they had. We felt the meal was reasonably priced given the location and quality of the food. All in all a great meal and we would definitely eat here again when visiting LA.

If there's no electricity, close!

By Dore W |

A little rain in la can be terrible, but it doesn't have to be. The afternoon i went to figaros, their power was out. But the hostess who seated us said they were still open, but it would take more time. Well okay, we said. But when it was time to place our order, we were informed that only cold items were available. Which was disappointing, especially since the table next to ours received a steaming bowl of mussels after we placed our order for cold pastries and sandwiches. I would have appreciated a heads up BEFORE we sat down and formulated hopeless food desires. As for the food, the pastries would have been good if they'd been heated up.

Cool little bistro

By Adamthemaestro |

In LA for the weekend I was taken here for Sunday brunch. Situated in a cool and quirky neighbourhood it’s the perfect place to keep out of the rain and soak up the French style ambience. The food is good quality and the waiting staff are charming. A good find!

Lower your standards!

By Johnmaui |

Got to the restaurant at 4:45 so we could relax and have a fun dinner before a concert at the Greek. We ordered wine at the regular prices with no mention of happy hour specials at 5:00. A few minutes later a couple sat next to us and the server immediately mentioned several selections of happy hour wines to them and it was not even five yet!. We received our wines and put in our order, I ordered the short ribs recommended by the server, my wife ordered salmon and salads. The salads arrived and we began our meal. As we were eating the hostess literally drops the metal holder for the happy hour specials in the middle of our table. No excuse me or pardon me, just bang right in the middle of our table. Half way through finishing our salads the server comes out to inform me that they are out of short ribs. Out of short ribs? At 5:15, which the waiter had recommended. Really??? This place isn't cute, it is old, run down, dirty and very poorly run. The only saving grace, the food was good and our server Gary was pleasant.

Paris Cafe in Los Feliz

By lisa h |

I have been to Figaro many times and each time I feel like I'm in Paris. It may be small but you can always get seated either inside or on the sidewalk. I have never eaten anything here that wasn't good. My favorite thing to do is come, sit at the sidewalk tables, drink wine, and eat a little snack with friends while we people watch. This last visit I took my seven year old daughter who is Miss Picky eater, she loved the bread and jam and ate most of her quiche. Starbuck's move over. Je prefere le Cafe Figaro.

A Little Corner of Paris in Los Feliz

By Dracoschnauzer Dad |

Figaro Bistro is one of those magical places that has the ability to transport you back in time to those memories you have a sitting at the perfect Parisian cafe people watching and enjoying one of the most delicious meals you've ever had. The atmosphere is truly Parisian from the terrasse to the bakery to the bar. The menu is extensive. The food is sublime from a simple Croque Monsieur to the exquisite Foie Gras, that you'll want to spread on everything. What truly takes you back to Paris is the service; there's no rush. You are expected to savor every bite!

A little gem.

Food, wine and service excellent. Highly recommend this small and friendly restaurant.

Bon Chance!

By JanetJulia |

I can't say enough about this lovely little Los Feliz Bistro! Having never been here before, I chose this restaurant (from my East Coast online searches) more for its location with the people involved in the surprize party I was throwing for my sister's birthday. My fingers were crossed as to anything else. The manager, Yoann, was attentive to my emails and answered all of my pre-party questions, recommended appetizers, and saw to overseeing a beautiful and perfectly prepared birthday cake. Our server, Vanessa, was skilled at both timing and presentation while appearing to genuinely be happy with and for those of us who had gathered. The food was well prepared, and well presented. All in all - not only was this a delightful find, but a place where flawless memories were made! I would certainly return here again.

Finally a decent breakfast. Best croissants

By Yannick B |

Come on, let's be honnest, as european tourists, we can get tired of the daily US Breakfasts (bacon, eggs, pancakes, ...). Here is you can have the best french croissants and baguette. The place to go!!!!!

Beautiful..

By Barnybabes |

My boyfriend recommended the place as its one of his favourites in LA.. With a rustic setting one has a choice to sit inside or outside watching people go by.. The food, the ambience, the service it absolutely wonderful.. We had the lamb & Lemon Sole which is one of the best we've ever had!! Anyone visiting LA should try this place!! I think it tops my favourite!!

Authentic With Great Food and Service

By lakemissy |

As the title implies, we had a lovely evening here. Great service, food and décor. We've been in France several times, and this is truly an authentic looking restaurant. It seems like it was picked up and transplanted to LA. We'll definitely return to Figaro on our next trip to the city.

Magnifique

By Puntomoo |

Met a girlfriend for drinks and a casual bite. The happy hour drink specials were great of which I had a few bellinis. The light dishes were particularly good I had a lobster roll and rhe ravioli which were both superb. Best of all was the service. The waiter was fabulous.

Not great

By dpakman91 |

Figaro is alright, but nothing at all special. Aside from the service being mediocre, the food isn't spectacular. Realistically, there are many better options in the neighborhood.

I enjoy this place!

This Place is really an authentic cute little french restaurant! I enjoy the food and the interior of this restaurant. I love the desserts most specially the lemon tart! We'll definitely try other dishes next time! :) Stella&Raphael

So many indigenous aboriginals for an small French Bistro.

By summer1970 |

It is really out of place to see this "Chapas" guys runing arround and arround, bumping into customers, in the kitchen, outside, the "host", an aboriginal provenient from some holle in a "Fabella" in some country of South America, at the door, of the restaurant, PLEASE, TO THE OWNER, YOU GOING TO LOSE YOUR BUSINESS, IT'S REPUTATION IS BEING BAD, I saw it over the years get worst and worst.

Great Brunch

By freshmonkey |

Ideal spot for brunch. Thanks to pitch perfect decor and very French service (though a little warmer, thankfully!) it really feels like you've escaped L.A. and been transported to Paris. Situated in a neighborhood worth exploring, surrounded by mom and pop bookstores and vintage stores. Breakfast sandwich on a croissant looked amazing, as did the smoked duck salad - I had the scallop salad, which I really enjoyed. Good food and GREAT ambiance.

Sweet little French Bistro

By TerriTraveler |

This sweet little French Bistro in the Griffith Park Area was a fun surprise. A friend had taken me to see the sunset over LA from the overlook at Griffith Park and we were looking for a nice place for dinner after. We found Figaro close by and decided to try it. The Bistro has a nice outside seating area. I had the onion soup and it was fantastic. My friend had the cheese plate and enjoyed it. We also got some pastries to go. I had a fruit tart that was both beautiful and tasty! The service was ok when we were there. Prices were reasonable for the location.

The Nutella Crepe - Best EVER

A Scrumptious Breakfast

By I Prefer to Drive |

Four of us visited this French bistro for breakfast and it was one of the finest breakfasts we've ever enjoyed. It was a bit pricey but we ordered some really delicious meals. The scrambled eggs were excellent... the breads, croissants, and other items were all delicious. The juices were fresh - I had orange juice and it was fabulous. I would highly recommend this restaurant - particularly for breakfast.

Why haven't we been here before?

By Ben B |

This spot has been in business forever, we just recently learned about it, and are glad we did. The atmosphere is like being in a eatery/bar in a small town in France. Eclectic decor and interesting menu. Super staff and service. Wonderful food and drinks. Two totally different spaces inside as well as sidewalk tables. We'll be back!

Better than being in a Paris Cafe

By dustyNewtownSquare |

My daughter treated me to this wonderful restaurant. It was better than a Paris cafe because the wait staff was amazingly attentive - specifically Robin. The food was wonderful, we had Carpaccio, Escargot, Moules Marinieres, Kir Royals, Cabernet, Espresso, Cappuccino and Creme Brulee! Just delicious. The bonus was we were there at Happy Hour and the bill was less than $80. The restaurant interior appears to have been transported from France. Figaro has the charm, the food and the wine list, this not to be missed. Figaro Bistrot is just perfect!

A Los Feliz Institution!

By twaone |

If you don't look outside, you could imagine you are on the Left Bank. Over 80 years old, this place is so French. Great ambiance, bakery and wine list! The Salad de Canard et Foie Gras is awesome. The picket of house wine is very good and an excellent value, just as in France. Service is good. Parking around the block in public lots.

Great little bistro in Hollywood

By Fred A |

A really excellent inexpensive little French bistro in the heart of buzzing Hollywood. Food, service, drinks etc all great quality. Outdoor seating to absorb the local atmosphere but inside is an almost perfect replica of a genuine Parisian bistro. Also has a boulangerie/patisserie with some very appetising morsels. My friend had chicken and I had duck, both beautifully cooked. Well worth visiting

Attention Francophiles: Go here!!!

By Leslie P |

This is my new favorite restaurant in LA. It is closer to a true French bistro than anyplace I have seen outside of France. The food is wonderful. The service is friendly and reasonably fast considering how popular this place is, and our waiter was actually from Paris. The prices are quite good for LA. BUT my favorite reason to go here, IF you are a true Francophile, (and you won't get this if you are not,) is simply the authentic French appearance of the place. Seriously, every wall fixture, counter, doorknob, mirror, etc. must have been shipped over from France. It is incredible! European toilet?!! The place is a dead ringer for a genuine French bistro. You have to have spent some time in France to fully appreciate exactly what I mean. We parked directly across the street and as I looked at the place, I was struck by how truly French it looks. Inside, it is even more so. I felt like I was back in Paris. If there was a way to rate the atmosphere higher than 5, I would.

Good lunch

By wherelolawent |

My friend, her baby daughter and I were following our sat-nav to a different restaurant but decided we liked the look of Figaro more. We were seated outside, which was lovely. Service was very good. My savoury chicken crepe was fantastic; the mimosa's were good. I'd return.

to have them save one of their pear & goat cheese tarts. I have visited Paris many times and tell my friends that sitting outside, you could very well be on the Champs Elyse, only without the 'attitude' that the Parisien's are known to show. We even took my father there and he was born in Paris and shared the same praises of Figaro(o:

Trés Magnifique

By SweetArlene |

Dinner at the Figaro was a memorable experience. I ordered the chicken in mustard sauce and it was simply amazing. My brother had the steak and frites and he raved about it. I ordered a glass of Negrette, a wine that I can't find anywhere else, and found a new love. Go for the ambience, for the food, for the lovely bar, for the candlelight, the wine, everything. I can't wait to go back for another fantastic dinner experience.

Wonderful atmosphere/Fantastic Food

By bornbythebeach |

We made reservations the night of May 8th for a party of 4. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. We were sat at a lovely window table with couches for chairs. Our waiter was great and knowledgeable with the food choices. Dinner was wonderful and the wine was tasty. Relaxing dinner with a warm atmosphere.

Lovely Lively Restaurant

Nice evening spent here - Busy and loud but that means its recommended and used by most. Staff were very friendly and attentive - The food was served in reasonable time and hot. Not a food connoisseur - but really enjoyed it. Would definitely go back if in LA.

Best coffee in town.

By DPELEG |

What a great surprise. In a city of endless Sarbucks and Starbucks looks a like I finally found a place where I could truly enjoy a great cup of coffee. In the middle of colorful Los Feliz this Bistro knows how to make it and serve it with a smile.

Fab, fab, fab

A must to visit. Best ever lovely atmosphere. Food and wine and service are exceptional. Nothing bad to say

meh

Although the Happy Hour is nice, the food is just so so for a french restaurant. Greasy fried artichoke hearts, really dull Caesar - wow - I guess that is possible, adequate fries, OK mini Burger, not bad coconut shrimp. all just meh!

Charming atmosphere, good food, attentive service

By Sharlene T |

Figaro is a favorite stop when visiting the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. Parisian style cafe with indoor and sidewalk seating, great pastries (also available for take out from the bakery counter), and interesting local clientele. The food is generally well-prepared, and the staff helpful.

Great Food, Bad Indigestion

By teress |

We visited Figaro Brassierie this past week before going to see the play West Side Story. Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. The waitress was attentive and the food was terrific. It was 20 minutes after my meal that I felt stomack cramps and indigestion--the reaction I would get from MSG or too much of an MSG type of spice. It was very uncomfortable for me to sit through a play! I thought that the use of MSG products were illegal in California. They should be because the food (grilled sallmon with aspargus) tasted great--but the after experience was not pleasant! The price of our two meals was $80.00, which means that the ingredients should have been fresh and of good quality. If this was the case, MSG was not necessary!

Perfect brunch on Sunday

By Cindy M |

After hiking up to Griffith Observatory we were looking for a great place to have brunch afterwards. Just happened to drive by Figaro Bistrot in the Los Feliz neighborhood and it looked like a great place to eat outdoors. We found parking in a side street lot. The menu looked really good and food was excellent. Some of our party had breakfast and the others had sandwiches. All were great! I loved that salad was served with eggs!! Very French. It was very hard to not be tempted with the desserts. On our next trip we will go back just for dessert.

Little Bit Of France

By missksc |

The food is fantastic and the service is amazing. I've dined here three times, each time with a different waiter, and had great experiences. Might not be for everyone, but I love the grunge deco.

French? What a joke!

By pnktypn |

Review is for bakery only. Pastry selection is very limited. The way displaying them does not appeal at all. Seems like they damped all without any strategies how to show off nicely. Ironically this may tell the qualities of pastries and service after all. After ignored (not waited) for at least 5 minutes, ended up choosing pistachio mousse, chocolate mousse and chocolate tart. All taste absolutely blunt and boring. It is like all made at least several days ago - no freshness was felt. Of course, overpriced. So is it really French?? No, it is very typical and predictable "you believe it is Hip" LA joint. What a joke.

French Onion Soup Lovers Rejoice; Frenchman Cooking

By wabdatl |

OK they imported everything in the restaurant from France ; right down to the tile on the floor to the chef turning out all things French. A Winner! The half of carafe of wine is 8.00. They make their own bread. Do I need to go on?

FEELS LIKE PARIS

By kwaaak |

...my wife says whenever we visit. A great spot for an enjoyable evening with friends or grazing thru the happy hour menu. You won't be able to resist the display of pastry near the front door as you leave.

Delicieux! (delicious)

By Neuforce |

I stopped by for a tea because the place looked cosy and with style (sat at the lounge) and stayed for dinner! The food is very good indeed! I had tiger prawns in an anis sauce that were delicious, my friend, who is vegetarian, had a "parmentier of mushrooms and spinach" which is served as a layered tower of mushrooms, spinach (steamed, not reasy at all), and home made mashed potatoes: stunning and full of contrasts (although basil is not a great match for the other ingredients). The cheese cake and almond tart were a true regal. As for the Kir, I am not sure it was prepared with French cremant .. it was really flat (in terms of sensations!).

Bad service

By RoxyBl2016 |

The service was so bad that we didn't even bother to order at all. So I can't even rate the food. I should have read the reviews before even considering going to this place. There are too many great restaurants in LA (thankfully) that I don't even need to deal with this place at all.

--- Pleasant, Fun; Taste of France, but Not THE Best

By Godenar |

Figaro Bistrot has some honest charm, with an extensive menu, and certainly a place to stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you're on Vermont Avenue in the Los Feliz area. We enjoyed lunch and dinner here and while the food was definitely French and well-prepared, it was not THE best French food. One dead giveaway for me about its authenticity: at the end of the meal, I asked what eaux de vie they had, and the server told me that they had Rémy Martin. No clear brandies other than the Rémy clear. Which was pretty good, but not what I would have expected from a French bistro.

Delicious!

By MusingsOnTravel |

Just driving by and decided to stop because of outdoor seating. Had a steak salad that was utterly delicious! My friend had a breakfast croissant with salad and roasted potatoes. Delicious! She also had a latte and it was so pretty and delicious!

Nice place to sit outside for lunch

By JamesJoseph |

Three of us went for an afternoon lunch and sat outside, it is a very nice spot. We had the Quiche Lorraine which was pretty good, the steak and salad was very good and the seared tuna nicoise which was also pretty good. The fresh squeezed oj was very good. Service was very good the staff very friendly and accommodating. They have an extensive menu with all the French classics, prices are moderate.

Loved this restaurant... mais oui!

By maggiephotonut |

As an out of towner, this is the second time I have eaten at this wonderful bistrot in the Los Feliz area of LA and both times were delightful. Walking into this eatery, one is transported to France with a glass display of beautiful french pastries and an ambience of "Vive La France". We were promptly seated and served by an attentive waiter with a delightful french accent (I'm a fan of french accents) who offered us wonderful house specials. Similar to our first dining experience, we chose the cheese board with fig jelly, a great starter with a variety of lovely cheeses. For our main entree, we both ordered one of the house specials, the filet of Dover Sole, that was fresh and melted like butter from the first to the last mouthful. In concusion, you won't be disappointed if you choose this restaurant... Allons-y!

Fun little place for something different.

This little gem has lots of Old World charm. Lovely menu, and very good food. A bit pricy, but it was a treat. Casual dining. The bakery section has lots of tempting desserts. Service was ok- waiter forgot my drink order, but easily fixed. Did not ask if we would like to order another. Lots of locals, and option of outdoor tables

Simply put, I have yet to have a meal here that I haven't found amazing. Always a good choice for breakfast or brunch. I highly recommend it...big fan!

A Great Happy Hour Value

By Schanke |

Excellent drinks at happy hour, 4-7 each night. Almost all the choices for appetizers are only $4.00 and are very plentiful. Each person in our group ordered two appetizers which were a great plenty. Really liked the crab cakes and the carpaccio de boeuf.

Really is like Paris

By KayS |

The atmosphere really is Parisian, and the food is delicious. The steak-frites is wonderful. The service, however, is not the best. We had a server who was new, and she kept "forgetting" our water, bread, etc. The prices are also like Paris prices--expensive. The place seemed to be a gathering place for locals. Parking is a problem, but there is a lot behind the restaurant that has a few spots.

As Parisian as you will find in Los Angeles

By stylefox |

We ate there twice. The first time was for lunch. The food was quite good, but the service was way too slow. The second time was for dinner and it was a real treat. The filet mignon was delicious. And the chocolate macarons for dessert were just as good as any I had in France. The ambience is great. And so nice to enjoy a spring evening at their sidewalk brassierie.

stepping into a bistro...

I enjoy the friendly service and the vintage French or Italian atmposphere this restaurant reminds me of. There is old-world charm surrounding the tables and I feel like it is the 1920's. The server coes to the table with a smile and warm sophistication. how refreshin! The dishes I had tried here are delicious...and such a selection. There is much to see in this arty area not too far from so many Los Aneles landmarks. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately Hotel Hollywood was without power for almost 2 days during our visit it lead us to venture out in the area in which we were staying. We just purchased new boots! Cowboy/girl we were now ready for lunch. We had passed this restaurant a day earlier and I like the vibe so we decided to try it out. We sat outside the sun was shining and the places was packed! That is always a good sign. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious, you can get 1/2 carafe of wine for $9 that is unheard of! We had spent a lot of $$ for wine and cocktails during our stay this was far the greatest place to eat & drink! I highly recommended, unfortunately we didn't have dessert because we were full, they looked yummy!

Really nice

Enjoyed the drinks and especially the layered mashed potato with mushrooms and fava beans One of the best meals! Kind of like a restaurant you would see in New York, very quaint and a local favorite, pea soup was also amazing

A nice first meal in LA

By AMB&JAS |

After our flight from National Airport on January 21, 2020, my wife and I stored our luggage at Sumi’s, 1812 N. Vermont Ave, Los Feliz. Then we walked a few doors south to this restaurant. This was a nice first meal in LA. Our server, TJ, was gracious and friendly. My wife and I shared the beef Bourguignon, and for dessert, the chocolate tart. Delicious. After lunch we walked a few doors north to the Vintage Cinemas Los Feliz 3 movie theater and saw Uncut Gems.

Interesting

By Al R |

Dinner here was good but not great. Food was served hot and orders were correct and tasted great. French Fries were some of the best, steak was very good and a meat & cheese plate was generous. If rating on food alone, give it 4.5 stars. Decor can only be described as eclectic. Clean and neat but tables and chairs look old and worn. Service is slow, wait between order and serving was glacial. Perhaps, alone with the French accent from the waiter, the pace of service is meant to evoke France. Nice try but it doesn't work in L.A. Parking is a hassle, just like every place in Los Angeles. $5 lot around the corner is a good deal. Overall, not a bad place just be aware it isn't in Paris.

I have the good fortune to live in Paris and LA. Figaro is like being in Montmartre. Good food, artistic vibe and an attractive, appealing clientele. If for no other reason— go for the fresh baked bread. Love it.

Good food and Ambience, Truly Evil Service

By Chris A |

It's such a shame that a restaurant with such high quality food and a gorgeous atmosphere is plagued by such incompetent, arrogant, rude, and outright malicious staff. I went here for a late dinner with my friends tonight, and had the displeasure of being served by this waiter who was giving us a lot of attitude and mean looks right from the beginning in addition to making a snippy comment along the lines of "are you going to order something?" despite the fact we had just arrived. A few of my friends noticed too, but we kept it to ourselves as we know everyone can have a bad day. However, when it came time to order, our waiter neglected to write down our order because "(he'd) been there awhile." My friends are all pretty good natured and made a couple jokes but ultimately did not care. I ordered fried shrimp as an appetizer and their house pasta. My friend ordered the veggie pasta with no tomatoes. Instead of what I had ordered, I was given the pasta with five regular shrimp in my pasta and a 5 minute speech about how "actually our happy hour fryer is turned off so I couldn't make this for you - which despite 'working here for awhile' I didnt know because I don't work here at night so we had to do this." Which is honestly a WILD decision to make without talking to the customer first (probs would've just not gotten shrimp at all) but again: I didn't care. HOWEVER, my friend who had ordered no tomatoes in her pasta because she has something called complex mastocytosis activation that causes her to get very sick bc of select fruits, did in fact have an allergic reaction to the tomatoes that were still in her dish. She calmly gets up to take a bendryl and politely AND privately tell the waiter that she had an allergic reaction and was instead BRUTALLY reprimanded by the waiter who INSISTED he remembered and that it was the kitchen's fault and that she should've specified that she had an allergy (it's the waiter's job to clarify btw) and when my friend made a comment about how that sounded victim blame-y he rolled his eyes and made a sexist comment. Then the manager overhears and instead of solving the issue, JUMPS ON BOARD with the waiter and starts telling my friend she needed to "protect herself!!!" So my friend, obviously frustrated, mentions that it wasn't the first mistake he had made with our meal in reference to my situation and the waiter backs off but not even an apology was given. Finally the bill comes out, and not only am I paying extra for the shrimp I did not order but my friend is paying for the pasta with tomatoes!!!!! It took a separate friend to go and demand it being removed from the bill for it to happen despite them telling us "actually we were planning on doing that!" (im still paying extra for shrimp i didnt order btw). Finally, the revised bill is given to us and instead of apologizing the manager has to undermine us once again by INSISTING that it was just red pepper and the allergic reaction came from food contamination as if that makes it any better!!!! Without a doubt the worst service I've ever received in my whole life. That waiter should NEVER work a front-facing role ever again. Genuinely horrid, mean-spirited behavior. Until people like that no longer work there, you're better off ordering takeout from them (or having a pack of benedryl and a xanax on hand to tolerate your dining experience)

Parisian feel

By CGSanLouis |

Went there before going to a musical. Really charming place, apparently everything has been imported from Paris, I felt a bit parisien when was having lunch here. Limited menu, but all choices are great. Nice little terrace to see the world (at least a part of it) passing by

Why fly to Paris ?

By jean louis D |

Paris Ambiance and cooking can be found on Vermont Blvd in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. The décor is typical of a turn of the century bistro and bakery. You leave LA the moment you step in Figaro. The menu is definitely French and check for the happy hour offers ( 5 PM to 7 PM on weekdays) for some great suggestions at a great price. For dessert, go to the display cabinet to make your selection. I can recommend the Tropezienne pie ( sponge cake with the lightest cream ). Bon Appetit !

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

By djessica2017 |

My husband and I have been going weekly for years but something has changed of late. Figaro Bistrot has really gone downhill. Three times in a row this past month we have had bad service but tonight was the absolute worst. We waited for half an hour to pay our bill because their credit card system was down. The waiter made no apologies and suggested we 'go find an ATM'. When we explained that we were late to an engagement and asked to speak to the manager, we were told he was busy. When we finally tracked down the manager, Joann, he said "it's not my fault" and complained at length. We tried to tell him we had to leave & couldn't wait any longer, and he abruptly turned and walked away while we were talking. To make matters worse, after the manager walked away, we asked the waiter what we were supposed to do about our bill and discovered that he had taken a photo of our credit card on his phone without our permission "I'll keep this for later and run it then," he said off-handedly. When we told him that we did not want him to have a photo of our credit card on his phone and asked him to erase the photo, he said no. We got the manager's attention again and when the manager told him to erase it he said he did but when we asked to see the gallery on his phone to make sure he had erased it (as you can tell we had lost trust in the staff at this point), his response was "I'm not going to let you have my phone." After explaining again that we had no interest in his phone but we wanted to make sure he had erased the photo, he said "look, I did" only to hold up his phone with a photo of our credit card on it. When we said that "it was still there," he looked at his phone & said "oh yeah" & only then erased it (we hope). Finally they got their system working after nearly an hour, we paid & we left. A few simple words of "sorry for the hassle" or "let us get your info & we'll contact you once the system is up & running" or something to that effect would have gone a long way. But to take our credit card and then act as if we have a problem because we want to pay and leave in a timely fashion not only ruined the night but showed Figaro's true contempt for its customers. When we said this was terrible service, the waiter actually said "well, don't come back" - which is a terrible representation of a venue. We live in the neighborhood & go to Figaro for dinner all the time, for business meetings & when we have visitors in town but no more - if you can't trust an establishment or its staff with your credit cards - then it is time to not go to that place. Wouldn't be surprised if weird charges start showing up on the card - seems like that's what things have sunk to at Figaro Avoid at all costs

French Restaurant Extraordinaire

By LucyBHoffman |

If you'd like to have a true French restaurant experience, this is the spot. Chef is French. Waiters are French. Everything in the restaurant was brought from France. The food is to die for. We had the meat and cheese appetizer. Beef bourgenon was one choice - melted in your mouth. I had seafood pasta. The creamy sauce was infused with the flavors of muscles, shrimp, and octopus. Each dish proved better than the next. This was well worth the 30 minute drive. Uber transportation was $12.99. While in LA, try this restaurant.

Brunch Bistro in Los Feliz

By AllyTravels1 |

I have been coming to Figaro Bistrot for brunch for years and it never disappoints. Sometimes, there's a wait (like every good brunch place on the weekends), but we went in at 1:30 pm this past Saturday and no wait. What a terrific surprise! I believe they serve brunch until 3 pm, which is another definite plus. The service is pretty good - polite and responsive. The food is excellent - from the bread and jam through the salad and roasted potatoes served with the filling omelette. FYI, if you order a double latter, you will be served a latte soup. Figaro has a charming atmosphere that fits perfectly with the surrounding vintage shops, transporting you out of Los Angeles, and into...well...Paris. Really a great find.

A little French bistro that even has a French waiter!

Had lunch here. Service was friendly and meal was good. Had a good onion soup. It's a nice little, local place that you can eat in or out on the sidewalk.

Desagradable- disgusting- dégoûtant!!

By Domy G |

The waiter asked us where were we from obviously foreigners . The bill came we left 10% for tips and we left . The waiter came running after us asking for more money. Incredibly the place looked nice but the whole tip thing was of a really poor and offensive customer service. Don't go to this place. Honestly dégoûtant!!!

Very cool spot....pastries are amazing!

By Jacqueline Reeves |

I had a business conference meet and greet at the location. First it is a huge place with lots of space. The bakery is amazing with tons of the best french pastries around! The upstairs is perfect for a entertainment venue and we had a dancing class there with a professional dancer and it was a lot of fun! The place was nicely decorated and a nice atmosphere. I think that with the explosion of Downtown LA the restaurant will eventually turn into the place to be and eat great foods and DEFINITELY for FRENCH pastries!

Terrible experience

By outstealinghorsesJM |

We have eaten so we’ll in LA (e.g. Kismet down the road from here). But this was the worst dining experience we’ve had here. An entree salad with tinned beetroot and baked inedible feta and a main of indescribable pasta slop. No offer of any refund. We were happy to get out of there and go to the hipster brewery bar in the next street. Avoid.

Average except for the high price

By YorkshireRam |

Fourth night in LA came down the hill from the Griffith Observatory and chose this place and it was the most uninspiring meal and service we have experienced; yet it was the most pricey meal we have had. The food we ordered was ok, apart from the large dollop of lukewarm mash that came with it. Certainly not worth the price though. Service was ok but that is it. The bill came with the suggested service calculated on the taxed total - unlike other places we’ve eaten where the suggestion was calculated before tax. Cheeky. I’m sure there are better value places in the neighbourhood

Food is good but the place needs a good cleaning

By Starviagera |

It is fine that they want to preserve the antique look, however the dirt should not be included. Thee bathroom was filthy and so was the little room in where you wait. dust has been around this place for ages. The pictures glass and furnishings in the dining have are dirty. One thing is having an old appearance and another is having greasy dirt all over. The service and the food where good.

WORST RESTAURANT IN LOS FELIZ

By Ray S |

I think his place is one of the most disgusting and dirtiest joints in Los Angles. Check the reviews on Yelp and see for yourself First of all, the sugar is kept in an open container exposed to all sort of germs. People touch it with their hands and then the waiter moves it it to another table... Only for this i cannot believe the health department gives them an A. Look at the spoons, or at your cups and you will realized that there are food stains, lipstick stains and all sort of neglect. Seems like the the 1930 old dusty feels is applied not only to the furniture and decor, but to the food and utensils as well... Try ordering some food... it most likely will arrive cold, missing an item, or spoiled. One time I had to send something back because there was mold on it...and if you dare complain...I found the attitude of the staff to be quite rude and confrontational. So if you want to eat bad food in a dirty environment and be treated poorly of top of it, go there because this restaurant has a completely distorted idea of what customer service should be like. There are tons of other good restaurants and cafes to go to on Vermont and Hillhurst. Do yourself a favor and steer away from Figaro.

A great little place with a nice vibe and good food. Escargot, oysters, bruschetta, etc, with a good pour.

Mixed Feelings

By irawine |

My wife and I recently had lunch at Figaro’s and it was a mixed experience. The food itself was fine but I had ordered the merguez sandwich with a side salad and they brought it with French fries instead. It took so long for the meal to arrive I did not want to wait for the fries to be switched out. Service was adequate at best - my wife had to ask to have her water glass refilled.

Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere.

By SophieDewing |

We were staying at the Hollywood Hotel so strolled up here to look for restaurants. Figaro was packed with diners so we knew it must be good. It did not disappoint. The food was really tasty - some of the best we had in LA. My mum ate off the happy hour menu and had crab cakes which she loved. I had the walnut salad which was amazing. The decor is very French and our waiter was incredible friendly. A very relaxed atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Lovely little French bistro

By maggiegust |

Had a delightful lunch here - excellent salads, breads, sandwiches and cafe au lait. The smallish restaurant has a beautiful bar. Our waiter was excellent - very attentive and knowledgeable in his recommendations. The roast beef appetizer (can't remember its French name) was absolutely delicious! Parking is always difficult, so you may have to walk a little ways from your car.

Accidentally found , and pleased we did!

By Barry684 |

We just were driving back from an event on Wiltshire blvd on Vermont, it’s about early Saturday evening. We saw some table on th side walk and people drinking and eating, so, we decided to stop and have a bite. The place has an inside and on the side walk seating, we chose the side walk. We ordered the French Onion soup, and it was a great surprise, as it was the best we had in a very long time. My lovely lover and I shared a main dish of Beef Bourgonion , the meat was as tender as it could be and tasty. It came with linguine pasta for balance. The table next to us ordered a sea food pasta, and it smelled devine, and according to them it tasted as delicious as it smelled., so, in short, we are going back for the Sea food pasta dish. Also for some of their beautiful and appetizing desserts. Our server was very polite and helpful, and he made sure we were happy.

We LOVE this place and I told my French dad that eating outside, you could be on the Champs Elycee, without that pissy French attitude and when he visited, he agreed wholeheartedly!

Nice place, but food not that good

By Pauak |

Located on N Vermont, it is conveniently located on the way from/to the Griffith observatory. This street has several places for drinks and dinner, and is definitely one of the better areas of LA for chilling out. The restaurant was full, and is nicely decorated "French style", in a romantic cozy setting. But the food was quite disappointing. The onion soup was way too sweet, and the ham creeps had too much ham. The steak tartare, so hard to find in the US, was average. The regular size tartare is either to share or if by yourself, order the half portion. But don't expect it to be that good.

A bit of Paris, in LA

By Tom_Cobbley |

One minute you're in Los Angeles, but step through the door in you're in Paris. Decor is classically Parisian brasserie, with the menu and slightly offhand service to match. Food is fine if a little unremarkable, but it's not without charm. Recommended.

Fits right in!

By sjd721 |

If like me you love areas such as Old Town in Chicago, then you know the area around Skylight Books is like heaven on earth. The people. The places. The vibe. Figaro is to food as this area is Los Angeles. Unbeatable. The ambience and décor are incredible. The dining area, especially the one farthest north in the space, is quaintly decorated, a French motif because it is French-with a Los Feliz/Silverlake feel. And spotlessly clean. Service is great, relaxed yet efficient. Food is tasty, whether you order pastries or specialties. Among the latter you would do well to ( I want to avoid saying must ) order the Steak Tartare. It was the best I have ever had! Pastries. Wine. Main dishes. Atmosphere. Super service. This is a must when you are in this area. Whether visiting, passing through, shopping, or lucky enough to live nearby, this is a venue not to be missed.

Drinks and ambiance? YES! Dinner recommendation? NO!

By Freebiegrabber |

I've been here a few times. It's a great place to have a Chimay (or is it Stella?), as the lighting and decor are very low-key and romantic. I've only eaten here once, but it wouldn't be fair for me to review the place as a full-blown restaurant based on that experience. I was already heavily buzzed on the Chimay (or was it Stella?), so I didn't have a chip on my shoulder. My date couldn't decide on what she wanted to eat for the first, say... half-hour, but the waiter kept coming back diligently, just in case. The waiter's accent was thick, but luckily he used visual aides -- their dinner menu was written on a chalkboard, which he pointed to while he spoke. My date and I were deeply entrenched in intimate conversation throughout the entire meal (I'm pretty sure we ordered the fondue), so we weren't really paying attention to how many times the waiter came back to check up on us. The bill was definitely up there in price -- don't go here if you're expecting "value." I mostly appreciate this place as a classy, low-key alternative to the overpacked, noisy hipster joints nearby. Pros: Ambiance, lighting, decor Cons: Expensive, bring a translator

Good food, reasonable prices, Paris style. I had the salad Nicoise and crab cakes. The service was excellent. We ate in the restaurant.

A wonderful surprise in a surprise setting!

By Dagnytags |

Great food, great service. Go here, you will not be disappointed. We thought we were going to be, we laughed when we arrived because my sister had waxed poetic about how great the place was going to be and on first blush, well, it just doesn't seem so. But then we sat down and ordered and the service was quick and the wine good and the food excellent and the little desserts exceptional. So she was right, and she got to laugh at us. REcommend it highly

A slice of Paris in L.A.

By DeniseWakeman |

It had been decades since I had been to Figaro Bistrot and what a treat it was. Located in the Los Feliz neighborhood on busy Vermont Ave., this restaurant is a gem. There's sidewalk seating, in addition to the charming restaurant that is reminiscent of many bistros I've been to in France. Many of the waiters are French as well. Happy Hour is daily from 4 to 7 pm and is an affordable way to kick off your evening. I was there for dinner with 3 friends prior to attending a play next door at the Skylight Theater. We began with Champagne and an order of burrata crostini. We followed with dinner. I had the classic steak with pommes frites (Bavette Sauce Aux Poivres grilled flap steak served with garlic french fries, green and szechuan pepper sauce.). At the first bite, I swooned with delight. It was perfect. The service from our French waiter was charming, a little slow, but hey, why not relax over a nice dinner. We gave ourselves plenty of time before the show.

The cakes and pastries and desserts are what makes Figaro special. So much cream on everything, it's a heart attack waiting to happen. This is the way to go.

Forget the Diet here

By Jude J |

We discovered this place as we were walking up Vermont Avenue. It's just across the street and north about a block from Il Capriccio Restaurant, another excellent place to eat. Figaro has a row of outdoor tables along its storefront which fill quickly in the mornings. We only went there for breakfast--but we did so every morning. To begin with, they have the best coffee on the West Coast, bar none. Very smooth and flavorful without a hint of Starbuckiness.Their breakfast entrees are large enough to share. We had the croissant with smoked salmon and brie; the croissant alone filled half of the large plate. And it's served with a light and lovely green salad so you don't feel too guilty. But their crowning glory is their patisserie: every pastry is light and flaky, every tart is rich with cream or goat cheese or magic. Service can be slow and occasionally confused, but the food and coffee are definitely worth a little patience.

99 Bottles of wine on the wall!

Our home bar resturaunt away from home, reminds us of my fav Euro destination, Paris. Scott the bartender is the best, super nice and doubles as a bar server very well. We don't even ask for a table anymore. Went there twice today for a drink and fries before the movie 3 doors down in Vermont, than Came back after the movie for a snack and a glass of wine. A large bucket full of mussels in wine sauce and fries for the bill with good conversations at the bar with Scott and some Hollywood locals, nice meeting you Mary! We'll be back real soon. Took a picture of my empty mussel bucket and yes they were that good!

Delightful little piece of Paris is trendy Los Feliz

By hd91364 |

Fabulous Parisienne feel to this trendy eatery and well worth a visit. Great menu, great wine and cocktail list, busy but friendly staff and a romantic ambience in the lounge where candelabra adorn each table and lanterns made from copies of Le Figaro hang from the ceilings. My only small gripe is the lack of space between tables - I don't appreciate hearing neighboring conversations, anymore than they want to hear mine. However, this is a common problem in L.A., and not restricted to Figaro. Yes, it takes a while to get served, receive drinks and get your food, but, if you're with someone special, what's the hurry? C'est magnifique!

one of my favorite local spots

By sarah8888 |

You need to know what you're getting into before coming here. I cannot stress this enough. If you want to go somewhere with super quick, impeccable service and a colder, more private experience, this is probably not the spot for you. I love this place because its very French. The servers are friendly but not always on top of everything. But the reasons I love this place so much: A. The outside sidewalk seating is really nice for the LA weather and people watching on an actually busy walking street. B. Because the tables outside are so close to each other, you almost always leave Figaro with a new friend. C. The people this place attracts are eclectic. Friendly and interesting people from all walks of life and all over the world. D. You don't feel rushed to finish your meal and leave. If you wanted, you could order a cappuccino and sit outside for hours and its all good. I've had brunches last up to 5 hours here with the right, fun people. E. The Happy Hour is a steal and sitting outside at sunset is the perfect way to wind down from your day. Its from 5-7 every day of the week. They have $3 Kronenbergs, house wine, and various cocktail deals including one happy hour special every day. They also have a happy hour food menu that is really affordable. My go-to is the beef carpaccio. I mostly come here for happy hour, but brunch is great, too. I've never had a full-on dinner here but I've heard the its good. In my opinion, the dinner prices are a little steep. Its a great locals spot. I always bring friends from out of town here. Its also nice to walk up and down Vermont Street a little before heading out. Some really great stores and bars. Parking: They have valet in the evenings, but you can usually find a street spot within a couple blocks.

The real Paris experience in Los Feliz

By 2Tigereyes |

This charming bistro is one of our LA favorites. It was purchased in Montmartre, shipped here piece by piece, and reassembled in Los Feliz - and it shows! The fin-de-siecle mirrored bar and main dining area are extraordinary, and the lounge oozes bohemian chic. We go there regularly, and while some have complained of the poor service, they must not have had our servers - we have been waited on hand and foot. Bartenders John and Ventura mix up some of the best cocktails in town, and the homemade pastries are a steal at under $4 each. Don't miss the French handpainted windows ("Our friends: artists and animals.") Only caveat: not the best place for kids.

I thought I was back in Paris.......a real find

By Rosemary Z |

After an exahusting morning at the office, my friend and I decided to go out for a nice lunch. We used Tripadvisor for suggestions and found the wonder restaurant just down the street. We drove by and at the same time we said "OMG let's eat there!!!" The restaurant is originally Paris and everything has been imported from there. The furniture, mirror, bar, menues, etc... The waiter was so friendly and made great suggestions as to what to eat. I had the panini with prociutto, asparagus and goat cheese. My buddie had the chicken and mushroom crepes. Outstanding and piping hot. The plates came with either salad or pommes frites. We didn't have any dessert because we were super stuffed, but they have a huge dessert case with everything from fruit tarts to creamy eclairs. OK,so after reading one of these reviews where someone got stomache cramps after eating here, I think the food affected me too. I wasn't sure why my tummy felt crampy for couple of days after eating at Figaro, but now I realize that the asparagus must of have something to do with it. Don't let this slight mishap persuade you, this is a great place. I'd definately eat here again!!!

ONE MARTINI TOO MANY

By kwaaak |

My wife and I have enjoyed many meals at Figaro over the last 15 or so years. Many times after we visited with my oncologist as it is up Vermont Ave. from Kaiser hospital. The last experience was notable for the martini I ordered. It was a top shelf gin with olives. This visit was during happy hour and a martini was $10,but I didnt want a happy hour martini and knew mine would be extra. Perfectly acceptable until I saw the bill. $14 for martini plus $3.00? Could this be for the olives I asked our overly officious maitre'd. Oh no he said it's for mixing the martini. Had I ordered on the rocks instead of up, there would be no charge. THE MIND REELS. Please advise if you've had a similar experience

Tough skirt steak

Empty Gentleman who clearly either owned or managed the restaurant was in the middle of a meeting when we walked in at a guest table during the course of our dinner I then saw him tending to the barva bit AND preparing and cooking food on the grill I remember thinking that he wash his hands after having that meeting tending to the bar and now he's preparing food it just didn't seem comfortable to see that

Culture! Authentic Food! Friendliness! A great Value!

L.A., an underestimated Metropolis, has greatly improved in the 34 years that I have lived here, in no small part thanks to charming gathering spots like Figaro Bistrot. French cuisine is often intimidating to the average American, due to the "haughtiness" of the Gaulois and to the reputed smallness if the portions served. Nothing could be further from the truth at Figaro Bistrot where big smiles are immediate and the servings are oh-la-la generous. You should come very hungry as the bread, jam, pastries, eggs, meat are tasty, the cafe au lait served in a big bowl and I feel smack in a boisterous Family meal, cooked by a devoted grandma. Breakfast is excellent here, served in style, with old silverware, starched white napkins and real brown cubed sugar. My Chausson aux Pommes was gigantic, with a flaky crust, not too sweet. The various styles of bread was perfect, the jam felt home-made and the potatoes delicious. As all the outdoor tables were already taken by 9 am, we sat in the decadent chocolate and ruby lounge under crystal chandeliers. Delighted by this introduction, my friend and I promptly returned for dinner. We started outside with wine and moules provencale while having a spirited discussion of world-event with the gorgeous industry-exec at the next table. Our waiter, the chiseled-faced Karîm, also joined in to debate the trials, tribulations and joy of my last trip to Paris. Figaro Bistrot is the ideal place in L.A. to practice your French as it is not at all pretentious! The "small" moules provencales served in a big tin casserole were abundant, drowned in an in an oniôn, tomatoe and garlic sauce adorned with rosemarie sprigs. I thought Karim has made a mistake but when the bill came, they were indeed $10, a great value with the silverware mise-en-place, etc. I was a bit surprised by the steak tartare which came raw with a raw egg and fries that were not that good, as I have had better fries at a South-of-France establishment. My friend had a chicken "free-range", with organic vegetables and gratinee, cheese-baked potatoes, which were quite good. Pastries to go where absôlute must, with tarte aux poires, eclair au cafe, mille feuilles et mousse au chocolat to share. Giovanni, from Naples, responsible for the pastries counter was gracious and helpful. He even summoned the young owner, Yoann, for me to compliment personally. In conclusion, French stuffiness and high cost is an old Myth. L.A. is fortunate to have an influx of rich culture under its clement skies. Take advantage of this and become a global citizen, through your taste buds, by enjoying Figaro Bistrot. The candle light, the silverware, the romantic 1930s atmosphere make it a romantic place to taje a date. Madonna's 2009 ad campaign for Louis Vuitton was filmed at Figaro Bistrot in Los Feliz, not Paris!

Fun with friends

Eight of us had dinner here on a Saturday night around 9 pm. We started with cocktails and then ordered food to be shared. Service was a bit slow and we had to ask for plates when the food arrived. We shared large serving of mussel Provencales. They were good and the broth was great. We shared 2 servings of Escargot au Beurre Persille. Not everyone likes snails even in butter. We shared two servings of Steak Tartare and was fresh and good. We also had the Medley de Charcuteries et Fromage (cheese and meats) It was good not great. We had a good time ending friends and good food.

Authentic French bistro

By KSB_10 |

Saw this from the street as we were driving by. Looked like the terrace of a French bistro and the inside was just the same. Our large party (9) was promptly sat and the service was outstanding through the meal. Food was traditional French comfort food: crepes, salads, croque monsieur. They also had burgers. Everything we ordered was delicious and authentic (lived in France for over 20 years). The pastries were also the real deal and a perfect end to a wonderful meal. Highly recommended.

A cozy inviting bistro

A cozy inviting bistro with charming decor and most comfortable vibe that invites me to stay for a very long while this Friday morning. Many people visiting with one another inside and out on this December morning. The French pastry offering is extensive and their lattes quite delicious. Service quite professional and French. Oh oui oui

Dissapointed

Our son who lives nearby suggested we go for brunch. Both my wife ordered Benedict each a different version. The service was good and friendly but the meal came cold and not very tasty. The bread was excellent so not all lost

Great spot

My friend and I stopped in at Figaro for coffee one morning and ended up sitting down and ordering dessert - at 11 am! Yep, that's how amazing they looked, we had to have dessert for breakfast. Very French, great service and amazing desserts. The cheesecake is unbelievably fluffy yet creamy, the tarts perfect and the espresso wonderful. Grab a seat outside and people-watch...great spot!

Brunch

By Karen H |

My husband, father-in-law and I, ended up at Figaro's for brunch this morning. It was eleven-thirty-isn when we arrived and we grabbed one of the last tables. When we left, there was a huge wait. This is a very loud, boisterous restaurant, filled with antique looking furniture. I've never been to Paris, but I imagine that Figaro's would fit right in. I had a baguette sandwich with ham and swiss, served with a green salad. Delicious. My husband ate a yogurt parfait and croissant, which both looked amazing. My father-in-law had eggs benedict, which he very much enjoyed. The orange juice was fresh and the coffee was delicious. The price was reasonable and our server was very quick and friendly. Tip- Parking can be a hassle. We found a five dollar lot down the street, near a bank. Also, save time to go to the best bookstore in the world, Skylight...a few doors down from Figaro's. I left with a belly full of yummy food and then got three books. It was an excellent Sunday! Like my review? Check out my blog!

Authentic French, Charming and Delicious!

I felt like I was back in Paris while having lunch here. The owners have recreated in great detail a truly French Cafe. The menu may be small, but everything on it is superb. The sidewalk tables are great for people watching. I also noticed that the staff takes pride in presenting every dish and that speaks for itself!

Great desserts

Stopped in for a quick coffee. Stayed for an hour with the chocolate covered strawberry, the decadent chocolate brownie and the fruit tart. Excellent. And btw the coffee was very good.

Undistinguished

Nice menu and outdoor seating. The problem is that the food was nothing special. Not one of the six dishes we ordered was noteworthy in any way. A flat bread was not wotth eating. A quinoa salad was just okay. Etc. Service was fine, but we will not return.

Very pleasant lunch experience in Los Felix.

Very pleasant lunch experience in April on the street. Very tasty salads and sandwiches on banquettes with generous portions at moderate prices. Very professional service. Will come again.

Unpleasant meal all around

By JEKWorld |

Lunchtime drunkards were allowed to bother families having lunch. Staff did nothing to stop their behavior despite being asked repeatedly. Ordered a Sprite soft drink and, bizarrely, a tonic was served instead.

Authentic

Parisienne bistro. Traditional french menu. Great onion soup and moles and frites! Generous happy hour drinks and food offerings 4-7:00. Bit odd to have to pay extra for bread though. City pay parking lot in back and other pay lots nearby. Valet parking also available.

Wonderful French cafe, great for brunch

By Meredith A |

This is a really lovely neighborhood cafe that truly feels Parisian. THE WAITERS ARE FRENCH, PEOPLE. Well, not all of them. At least one or two. Maybe they're faking it for tips but it totally works. Tell me more about the soup du jour, Jacques... Anyway, I came here twice during my visit since it was very near our Airbnb apartment. The first morning, my friend spied a cronut in the pastry case and asked the (incredibly friendly and adorably sweet) hostess if we could have it, even though we hadn't sat down yet, and she goes "It's got your name on it!!" She brought it as soon as we got settled. It was huge, and epic, and delicious, and thank goodness we split it between four people. I cannot imagine eating all that flaky goodness myself (actually I can. But you probably shouldn't). I got a build-your-own scrambled eggs, with gruyere, peppers, and spinach. They were lovely and soft, and came with a tangy little side of greens and some potatoes - not breakfasty hashbrowns, but yummy roasted ones. I also got peppermint tea which was looseleaf and came in a huuuuge kettle. I love that - nothing sucks like paying $3 for tea and you just get a teabag in a small mug of water (I'm looking at you, Starbucks. And most restaurants, honestly.) The eggs were soft and yummy, the sides a perfect accompaniment, and I'm pretty sure they brought bread to the table too? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I think they did. And that's great! We came back another day for coffee/tea and lingered. They serve lattes in these massive mugs that are essentially bowls. So cool. I'm surprised at the mixed reviews since we spent such pleasant hours here. I'd stop back in a heartbeat!

Unpredictable service and food - great happy hour

By rakehelll |

Happy hour at Figaro is a good bet for the thrifty. Small plates and well-priced drinks can be enjoyed at the many tables in front of the restaurant. Also a nice place for breakfast or coffee. The service can be slow and / or rude depending on how busy it is or the time of day. More times than not it's on the rude side. The regular menu is somewhat overpriced. The quality of the food is good but the cooking varies wildly. Sometimes things are served badly prepared. Make sure to repeat your order to the waitstaff and point to it on the menu as they love to put the order in wrong. Celebrities tend to frequent this place and it has a beautiful interior reminiscent of early 19th century cafe's in France. The bakery next door has good pastries and baguette as well as coffee to go.

Excellent Bistro Cuisine

By Evelina62 |

The young folk in my family had been raving about the food in this bistro for the last year. So I was finally able to be in Hollywood around mealtime, instead of running errands and ignoring comfort! What a treat! My daughter and I sat outside and were immediately waited upon. The menu, being in French (with English subtitles), reminded me of my summers in France and eating at wonderful bistros there. Great variety of categories to order from: the Eggs/Omelettes, Paninis, Salads, Entrees, Specialties, as well as a variety of pancakes and crepes and French toasts. They also have shelves of French pastries inside to take home. We ordered an amazing salad with fresh mangoes, avocados, and 5 huge grilled shrimps on top and a smoked salmon Panini with arugula, red onions and cream cheese inside (out of this world). At the next table, a lady was raving about her eggs Benedict with smoked salmon for only $12 and her friend was complimenting the eggs Florentine. All their prices were from $8 to $14 maximum, except for large entrees and seafood in the $20's. The food was fresh, plentiful, and presented exquisitely. The service was awesome! As we paid and were ready to leave, I realized that they were starting a Happy Hour from 4 to 7 where all these wonderful foods were being offered from $3 to $6 and that is on every day of the week, including weekends. My! I will be returning to this delightful eatery.

So French!

As a euro I really appreciate the European vibe. Sit outside and people watch, if you squint your eyes you are in Paris. Just a great place. That duck pate the Americans are all squeamish about was rich and delicious. Good times.

Great atmosphere , top of the line ..

Interesting place, OK food but we had terrible service

By scorchestra |

We ate here and had terrible service. Extremely poor service. Figaro’s Café is an interesting place. It looks sort of shabby on the outside but inside it has 2 rooms one sort funky and bohemian like and the other more like a bistro you’d find in Paris. The food is good but high priced. Our waitress was truly terrible. When we asked what the specials were she pointed to a sign a couple of tables away where it was leaning on a chair and she said “it’s over there you can go read it.” At the end when we asked to see a desert tray she said we could go see what the deserts are by getting up and going to see what they had at the bakery. It took a busboy to bring us the desert tray. The waiter at the next table seems to be doing a much better job. So apparently not all the service is bad here. I hope you have better luck. There are so many great restaurants in the city these days it surprises me that management would not take better care of ensuring that they have top servers. They certainly have top prices. We had the beef beef bourgninon which was served in a cute pot complete with the top. It had very little meat lots of thick fettuccine noodles, loaded with potatoes ad carrots. Not what we expected at all. Tasty but not enough meat. We had to add lots of salt to get that taste out of it too.

Fast French Food Redefined !

By Avery Martinez |

If you ever have the urge for some great fast food with quality (and no wrappers,) go to Figaro in Hollywood. Sit at the bar, grab a beer, say hi to Scott and order off the happy hour menu. Escargot, Carpaccio, Frys and a beer for $21 in 30 minutes. Beats the hell out of sitting on the 101 parking lot or drive through!

Lovely French place

I love this place. I love the candelabra room, and I also enjoy sitting outside by candlelight at night there too. Food is delicious. Good coffee too. Nice dessert selection. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I love this neighborhood.

Can't complain

By muzzmashe |

Rainy night in la and ended up here looking for salad and coffee both of which were excellent. Nice and cozy table looking out the window at the rainy street and the stalled traffic. Service was very quick very quick at least till it was time to go but the waiter was deep in conversation with someone at another table. I wasn't terribly in a hurry so I don't complain. 23$ for goat cheese salad (big and fresh) cappuccino (excellent) and sparkly water.
