This is one of those "typical" Philly restaurants in that it's a small, old, neighborhood corner commercial space with bare walls painted a bright Medditeranean color. The food is Moroccan or Moroccan influenced. There are a few meat dishes, duck and chicken, but the seafood is the thing to try. Anything with dates or a sauce based on dates is good. The usual humus and baba ghanoush is available and good but these dishes are available at all Middle Eastern or North African restaurants. Try something with different seasoning such as the mussels. This is a byob so locate a state store before going here. A light white wine is probably indicated and many dishes go well with a slightly sweet reisling. Prices are reasonable for this quality. This place is close enough to the Barnes or the Museum of Art so you can go there after seeing these sites.

BYOB to this neighborhood restaurant. We had delicious Moroccan food-mussels, pumpkin soup, hummus appetizers. Several salad selections. Dinner-swordfish- excellent texture and flavor, lamb shank, filet, all cooked as requested and everyone was pleased with their meals. Service was pleasant and well versed in selections. Restaurant had several small parties and 2 large ones but meals were delivered in timely manner. Would return.

My friend and I had a lunch/brunch at Figs . There were no other people in this small restaurant, perhaps because the weather was so lovely and most folks are off doing Fourth of July holiday things. We were warmly greeted and sat by the window, watching passersby in this Fairmount neighborhood. The Saturday and Sunday brunch menu includes omelettes, eggs benedict, pancakes, Moroccan eggs ( sunny side up eggs with ground beef and a spicy sauce). The build-your-own omelette with spinach, cheddar and onions was overcooked and dry, the cheese not melted and the onions not carmelized before being added to the eggs. The platter came with very mushy potato chunks, some lettuce and two slices of white toast. My friend got the Moroccan eggs, a dish which was nothing special as it was neither flavorful nor spicy. Service was attentive, the restaurant space is clean and has music quietly playing in the background. Outdoor seating was available today. Parking is on the street. If you stop at Figs, you can walk through the neighborhood for a block and a half and go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art , visit the Perelman Building across the street from the main building ( shuttle service is available between the two and along the Parkway so you can visit many spots) or visit the Rodin museum or the Barnes. Lots to do nearby this restaurant. Enjoy.

Authentic (and delicious!) Moroccan food , a short walk to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, adorably quant location in a nice neighborhood, kind and friendly staff.

Had dinner at Figs last night. Arrived at 6PM to an empty restaurant. Sat for twenty minutes without any service as the waiter (the only one for the restaurant) was fixated on his phone a couple of tables away. Once I was able to get his attention, he came over to our table to take our order. I had been to this restaurant before, so I know they usually have specials, but we had to ask the waiter about the specials as he seemed miffed that he was pulled away from whatever he was doing on his phone. The attitude of the waiter was equally as bad as the food. I ordered the grilled vegetable pizza for an appetizer. The crust was barely cooked and the grilled veggies were room temperature at best. The salmon entrée was a large piece of overcooked salmon sitting in a pool of thin flavorless sauce over a sticky blob of overly sweet rice. However, to be fair, the four or five extremely thin asparagus were good. The restaurant looked dirty and in need of a fresh coat of paint. I live in the neighborhood. We have many new and wonderful restaurants. I certainly don't understand the favorable reviews. Won't go back... for sure!

Went there while on a date at Philadelphia Museum of Arts. There were no other customers inside, bad sign, but turned out ok.

Great place for moroccan and mediterranean inspired food. Best time to go is on the weekend; food during the week is not as well prepared.

The restaurant is a BYOB. We happened to get there on the spur of the moment, after a visit to the nearby Museum of Art, and therefore didn't bring any bottle with us. Nonetheless the place was quite nice. It has a cozy ambience and doesn't have many places, so it is better to make a reservation. The selection of food is quite varied and what we tried was well prepared. A word of caution. It is a cash only place, so be sure to have enough change.

As a family, we love to try a different restaurant each time we get together. This time we chose Figs. There were 8 adults and we ordered several different appetizers to share. All were delicious; Tapas, baked brie, stuffed grape leaves, spinach and feta in phyllo, & my favorite appetizer (that's the name, really). The entrees were delicious as well. I would say they were standard offerings with a Moroccan flair like duck breast with apple cider honey fig demi glace. There was only one tagine offering, which my son said was delicious and everyone else was very pleased with their entrees, as well. The noise level was high, which made conversation between 8 of us a bit difficult, but that's to be expected with small restaurants of this kind. The service could have been a bit better. We had to flag the waiter down to open our wine and then he just left us his bottle opener and he didn't provide an ice bucket for the white wine either. Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the food. We would go again for dinner and would like to try breakfast.

Three of us had an excellent lunch, arriving around 1 and staying until they closed for the afternoon. The food was excellent - especially the eggplant and goat cheese lasagna (no pasta!) "appetizer" which is big enough for lunch with a good gazpacho soup or spinach and feta triangles. Salad Niçoise was delicious too! Service was friendly and helpful but cash only.

Had dinner on Saturday evening with wife and two other adult family members. We each had different entrees and all (salmon, seafood risotto, shrimp, and pasta) were well presented and delicious. Started with an excellent gazpacho and finished with apple crumble and brownie. Reasonably priced but cash only. If we lived in Philadelphia we would be regulars.

Suggested too us by a local couple as their favorite place to eat. It is located in a residential area so not many tourists. Food was outstanding=there were four of us and each ordered a different entrée. Entrees were reasonably priced, good size portions and delicious. If I ever get back to Phil, it will be a stop for an outstanding meal.

This very cozy neighborhood restaurant has great salads & lunch just a few steps from the Art museum. Dinner is also very good with several entrees. My favorite is Sunday brunch with eggs Benedict & salmon omelette. BYO & cash--very good.

We tried Figs on the recommendation of some friends who live nearby. For those who don't, please realize the parking situation in the neighborhood is near-impossible. But however you get there, Figs is worth a visit. It is a BYOB, but if you don't bring any alcohol, the restaurant has other non-alcoholic beverage choices. The Mediterranean appetizer sampler was delicious, as were most of our entrees. One in our party tried the lamb tagine, which was a bit overcooked. The menu has a wide variety of dishes - not just Moroccan. My swordfish entree was well cooked and delightful. Try the house-made ice cream for dessert - we chose fig and it was scrumptious!

Located in the close by Art Museum District, this Meditanian flare restaurant will tantalize your tasted buds and go easy on your wallet. Cash Only Please. Bring your own and put some time aside for exploring the wonders of fresh fish, meat and vegan options. Lovely setting, cosy insides. Now GO! DJ

Have eaten there twice after visits to museum. Last time there were six of us, all with something different. Everyoen loved their food and the fig ice cream is great. Owner and staff could not have been more pleasant. Will go again.

Never had a bad meal here. Little byob in my neighborhood. Delightful entrees for dinner. Marvelous brunch. Nice folks. Greek angel hair pasta is terrific. Any fish cooked perfectly. Love the atmosphere.

My husband and I ate there with a group of our friends last time we visited the Philadelphia Art Museum and we enjoyed the delicious food and the ambiance of this small but interesting restaurant. It was B.Y.O.G. when we were there so take your own bottle if you want wine with you meal.

Really nice little treasure of a place with a Mediterranean menu with Moroccan influences. In the museum district a short walk from the Philadelphia Art Museum, away from the tourists and crowds. Fresh seafood, perfectly cooked, inventive menu with reasonable prices. BYOB if you wish.Home made ice cream was delicious, especially the fig flavor.

We had a delicious early dinner after spending the afternoon at art museum. I had tuna special. My husband had salmon. We split incredible Brie appetizer and apple crumb with vanilla dessert. Everything was amazing. Different flavors than your average selections!! Service was lovely. Byob and cash only!!! Open for lunch and dinner and brunch. This is our second visit. It was as special as our first a few years ago! Will go back sooner than that!! Have already recommended it to several people!

I went here with a friend for a post-museum meal, we had just found it on the map. What a great surprise! The menu was varied, the food was delicious - flavorful without being cloying or heavy. It's Moroccan, but well beyond couscous. We split the eggplant lasagna, my friend had the duck with plum sauce and bread pudding. She said is was the best meal she had had in a long time. I had the Shrimp with orzo in a curry sauce - not your typical curry, light, with all the curry flavor without being rich or overly heated. Probably one of the most enjoyable curries I've ever had. I also tried the lemonade which comes with a scoop of sorbet. Again not too sweet or too tart, really refreshing. It's a small restaurant, warm and charming with it's Moroccan decor. Our service was fine, but if it were on a busy weekend night I can only hope they have more help. I can't imagine this place being slow. Prices are certainly reasonable. Remember - cash only and byob.

We were in the neighborhood checking out a local business and came across this place for lunch on Saturday. My wife spotted the sign advertising the best pancakes award, so we gave it a try. The staff was extremely friendly and it is a warm inviting atmosphere. The service was prompt and very friendly. My daughter had the pancakes, which I sampled and have to agree, probably one of the best pancakes I have ever had. I have the Moroccan eggs and Moroccan tea for my meal. It was I think one of the best brunches I ever had. The potatoes were smooth and silky and the eggs were soft and fluffy. The mix of flavors was excellent. Its a cash only restaurant.

Friendly, neighborhood BYOB, excellent food and warm atmosphere. My advice make a reservation, it's packed!

As my subject line says, my favorite place in town. I've been in Philly about two years and aboslutely love Figs. I could eat here every week and never grow tired. They also just started serving brunch a few months ago. Very small place in the Art Museum area. They do take reservations which isn't always the case with BYOs. There are two down-sides which don't bother me that much, but might hinder others - parking is a pain and it's cash only. The menu is Moroccan inspired with lamb, shrimp, coucous, great flavors and auromatic ingredients. The service has always been fantastic an acommodating to my requests. It can get a little loud if there are big parties (as there really is only room for one large party). Definitely visit this restaurant, you have my word. I've dined all over the world and highly recommend this restaurant.

I have been looking forward to going to this restaurant for a while. The food was pretty good, but the waiter would have made a better mortition. He had no business being around people. Also, FYI. They only take cash. I'm over that place. Too many other good restaurants in that area.

A bit hit or miss, but when it hits (i.e., when the owner is in attendance), it's great: probably the best price-to-quality ratio in town.

Figs has a great brunch! The food and service is always delish. They have this fabulous drink, it's fresh lemonade with a scoop of mango or lemon sorbet in it! I recommend you try it😊

Saturday evening, party of eight. We were seated promptly which was great, the server could have been a little more attentive. Cozy bistro atmosphere. It was not crowded, if it was it would be very noisy. Lucky us! The food was delicious though.....it was nice to be able to bring your own wines. Do n ot forget to bring your own! The apetizers were tasty and so were the entrees. Their sauces were extremly good. So go and enjoy this quaint byob.......

AMAZING! I've never been disappointed. make reservations or at least call ahead to see if they can fit you in. The flavors are out of this world. It's cash only and BYO. One of my favorite places. Family owned and cozy.

A neighborhood place in the Museum District - a nice area to walk to around if you are from out of town. Great home cooking. LOVED the duck breast w/ bread pudding. LOVED the mussels with Moroccan spices. And the beet and haricot verts salad is far mor exciting and special than it may sound. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere relaxed especially on an off-night. You are served by the owner and his wife which we liked. Very good portions. Consistently delicious.

A group of us revisited this adorable cozy restaurant. Although the weather was hellacious the dinner was still worth the trip

Small but cozy, this restaurant has excellent food - well prepared and delicious - and intimate ambience. Close to the Philadelphia Museum and Barnes Collection, so great for an evening after. The BYOB allows it to be very affordable. Parking in the immediate area is difficult, but free parking two blocks down on Fairmount Park/ Pennsylvania Ave (Gold Joan of Arc statue you can't miss!). mitigates that issue.

My husband and I had gone to Figs a little over two years ago and had always wanted to come back. As we were at various art museums later on a Saturday afternoon, we showed up at Figs at 5:00 p. m. Once again we enjoyed the bean dip. This time, we tried the scallop appetizer. Scallops were moist and tender, and the light sauce was delicious. Then we went on to the steamed mussels. The sauce with the tomatoes was absolutely delicious. However, the mussels themselves were small and tough. For our entree, we both decided to get the oven roasted swordfish. The piece of swordfish was rather small and thin and had been slightly overcooked. The vanilla rice was interesting. The sauteed spinach was absolutely delicious. Both of us thought the date barbecue sauce was too sweet, but that is a matter of personal preference. Service was fine. I decided to use the ladies' room. I noted as I walked up the stairs to the bathroom that some of the wood was no longer painted...as if they weren't being maintained. When I got to the ladies' room I was horrified to see a roach in the sink. The ladies' room is directly next to the kitchen. Then the toiled had urine pooled on the back to the side of the seat. Since we were the first customers for the dinner service, obviously the bathroom not been cleaned after the lunch session. Finally, the toilet itself had black around the ring....it had not been scrubbed for some time. So needless to say, we will never come back.

Be aware up front that it's cash only and BYOB, but the food and service are great! The chicken ceasar salad is fantastic. The lemonade with sorbet is not to be missed either on a hot day (try the mango). Nice atmosphere as well.

A foodie vacation in the neighborhood. Sunday brunch varied & affordable. Good lunch and dinner fare. Byob extraordinaire! Charming family service. Not a bad choice on the menu!

Excellent Moroccan food we had breakfast the Moroccan eggs were excellent unique and not too spicy for Keith is also extremely well service was fast only issue was they were out of glasses for tea so it took some time for us to get T would highly rate this to come back

Crispy, tasty Fuji Apple walnut salad. Some plates for sharing! Delicious coffee. Delightful server & chef. Remember to bring cash. No credit cards! Had steamed mussels & tapas plate. Filling and delicious.

I wasn't sure what to expect based on inconsistent reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by excellent food and attentive service. My wife enjoyed her pumpkin soup and vegetable plate. I had the beet salad and tuna. Beets were a good size and tasty. Tuna was excellent rare with a coconut banana curry sauce that was flavorful but not overpowering. Other guests were also speaking well of their meals. Menu had a lot of interesting options, so we will be back.

We had dinner with three other couples and were not rushed and provided good service. The food was Mediterranean style and was very well prepared and tasty. This is a BYOB and only takes cash. A little off the beaten path in middle of Fairmount section.

Consistenly great Moroccan cuisine. Great atmosphere, and a good place for a date or special night out. Very good service in a friendly, family-run atmosphere.

Figs is our favorite BYOB in the museum area. While the dining room is a little small, it is very comfortable and pleasantly decorated. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Six of us stopped by Saturday after attending the Rembrandt exhibit at the Art Museum. Along with complimentary white bean dip and bread, we enjoyed their Mediterranean Tapas Plate as an appetizer. They offer 3 different choices of toppings with the pita bread – we chose the Hummus, Feta Cheese, and Baba Ghanoush. All were excellent, although I was partial to the Baba Ghanoush. (But then again, as my girlfriend points out, I just like to say Baba Ghanoush). The entrees range from $16 - $25. We each ordered a different entrée and they were all good. My sister-in-law was really happy with her entrée, Crab Stuffed Filet of Sole in a Mixed Mushroom Cream Sauce. I sampled a little of it and completely agree – it was delicious. My Char-grilled Filet Migon was perfectly done. I loved the interplay of flavors on this entrée with the strong gorgonzola cheese flavor mixing with the red onion comfit and currant demi glace. My girlfriend orders lamb somewhat frequently when we go out so she got the Braised Lamb Shank Tangine and was very impressed with it. In short, everybody enjoyed their entrees. The chef is very creative in mixing unique Morrocan flavors into each of the entrées. For example, my girlfriend loved the sundried cranberry couscous that was paired with her lamb shank. The vegetables and/or potatoes that accompany the entrees are well-prepared – not afterthoughts like at many places. Notes: The place does a good business on weekends (when we usually come for dinner) so I’d recommend making a reservation. It is a cash-only BYOB. In our case the tip was added to the bill since we were a party of six. The waitress clearly pointed that out when she presented us with the bill so there was no confusion.

Usually a very good meal, but can be hit and miss.

To whom it may concern- I want to start off by saying that after my most recent visit to Figs, I wish I could give this restaurant no stars at all. Figs has been around for a while now, and although the food can be delicious (It's a hit or miss each time, as they are not consistent...), their horrible service overpowers my desire to ever return again. Why are they still in business, you ask? Location, location, location. This is one of 4 local BYOB options in Fairmount, PA. Additionally, the menu is eye catching and therefore it is always busy on a Saturday night. Problem: They are desperate to bring in as much business as possible, and if you make a reservation (no matter how far in advance), there is still a 70 % chance you will have to wait another 30 minutes to be seated. My last experience included my parents accompanying me to Figs this past Saturday night. In addition to waiting as long as we did to be seated (with a reservation), I caught the server seating a walk-in 4 top before us. They sat us by the door, which I let slide, as the restaurant has a very small/intimate setting. They then took another 20 minutes to open up our wine/bring out their starter , which is bread with homemade dip. I heard my parents order what they wanted, but the server came back with duck for my mother accidentally. I am human, and understand that accidents happen, but instead of apologizing she had the nerve to accuse my mom of ordering what the kitchen had prepared for her instead. My parents and I are paying customers, and for someone like myself that works in the industry, I find that the server's reaction was unacceptable. How can this dining experience get any worse, you ask? I waited until the end of our meal to pull the hostess (who was not our server) aside and voice my concerns. Her response actually outraged me to the point where I had to pull OUR server aside and react to the hostess's reply. The hostess had the nerve to say to me "Well if you are in the business, you should know that people don't get seated right away on a Saturday night. I can apologize for seating the people before you, but I cannot apologize for seating you later than your reservation or for your mother getting the wrong meal. Mistakes happen. This must be your first time here" Mind you, this was my 17th time there. When I recited that to her, she replied with "Really? I never seen you here before" in a passive aggressive voice. Her coworker (also her relative, as it's a family run business, which is why they get away with such poor attitudes), listened to my concerns, and then instead of showing me sympathy goes "Where do you work? I hook you up next time you come in". This is unfortunate, as there will not be a next time. Alternative suggestions in town where the food IS great and so is the hospitality: Amano, Trio, iPho. Lastly, I'd like to note that the chances of Figs monitoring these Yelp reviews are slim to none. I would love for the owner to prove me wrong, but he (or she) will not, as they only care about their "cash only" profits, and they will continue to get 5 star ratings from locals that only care about keeping one of 4 BYOB's in business. Love always, An unsatisfied, belittled by Figs employees, never returning customer.

I went to Figs for Valentine's day last year and was very disappointed with both the food and the service. The only advantage is that I can walk there if I ever wanted to try it again.

I ate there when I visited the Philadelphia Museum of Arts. It was dinnertime, but surprisingly, there were no other customers inside. I had to wait more than 20 minutes for my order (I ordered veggies over couscous), but on the upside, it tasted great. I keep trying to replicate it at home.

Visited while on a weekend getaway to Philadelphia. Loved that it was off the beating path of Market Street. The food was great and the price was great. BYOB a plus.

I have eaten at this restaurant before and love coming back. The menu has a great range of options, with something to fit everyone's pallet. Friday night I ordered the Salmon with sesame seeds, grilled asparagus and garlic mash potatoes. My date had the sole stuffed with crab meat and a mushroom sauce. Both selections were huge successes. We split the Sea Scallop app, which was terrific. The ingredients were very fresh, with a clean crisp taste. We passed on dessert and decided on coffee and cappuccino; perfect compliment to the meal. Service was fast and courteous, not rushing customers out the door. I HIGHLY recommend reservations, largely because the restaurant is small and the do get locals that stop in on the fly. Parking can be a challenge, but there are spots usually on Fairmont Ave. Overall, I will be back there in a couple weeks. I have done dinner hear with a date and with a group of friends, both worked well. Enjoy!!!

Figs serves up Mediterranean dishes in a cozy setting that feels warm and homey, yet exotic. The kitchen is open in the back and the constant flaring of the grill serves as a reminder of your food being made fresh. It’s also BYOB so you can save a considerable amount on drinks if you plan ahead. The food was good with lots of traditional Mediterranean and somewhat Moroccan dishes, like lots of couscous. The appetizers were good, especially the baked brie which was gooey and tasty, though a little heavy on the lavender. The humus sampler was also good, but I felt it missed a certain pop. The entrees were similarly very solid, but lacking a slight something to really make them stand out. The lamb was enormous and well seasoned, I could only finish about half of it. The shrimp were probably the tastiest dish with lots of flavor and a good serving size. With the large table size and BYOB, Figs is a great place for an event or party as well.

Just two blocks up 25th street from the museum oval, this eatery will warm foodie hearts. known mostly to locals, Mustafa the owner prepares enlightened Moroccan food. Cozy fairly priced and consistent, makes this a predictable choice for small groups. BYOB, no corkage fees. Shhh! tell your freinds.

Whenever we go to the art museum in the late afternoon, we walk over to Figs for dinner, one of our favorite Philly restaurants. Having eaten there many times, we are never disappointed. The Middle-Eastern, Moroccan- inspired dishes are delicious, whether one is having lamb, or seafood. Appetizers and desserts are a fine complement to the entrees. Since this is a cash-only BYOB, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the cuisine. The service is pleasant and attentive. One caveat- the restaurant is small, so make a reservation.

We enjoyed one of the best meals we have ever had in Philadelphia. This intimate restaurant offers a varied menu of perfectly prepared and unusual dishes. Both meat and seafood dishes were exceptional, as was the beet and goat cheese salad we passed around. Bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards, and they are happy to serve the wine you bring, as there is no bar.

Food, food, food, food. It's just so good. I've been coming back over the span of 6 years and the food has always been phenomenal. The bed review citing food as the issue simply have no idea what they're talking about.

I love figs always come here to visit when i'm in Philly the owner is very nice check it out remember!

I have yet to get the tagging at Figs because I always end up here for brunch. The restaurant is cash only and BYOB. It won an award for the pancakes but I find myself drawn to the Morrocan eggs, fried eggs with a spicy ground beef on top. I've had the pancakes, Benedict, and croissant sandwich. The sandwich is awesome. The portions are large and staff very friendly. It also offers outdoor seating and is around the corner from the Perlman building, so convenient to the museum.

Food was good. Service was stand offish, slow and at times rude. It is a byob and be ready to open your bottle. Don't go on a cold night because the draft from front door is awful.

Figs restaurant is a great little spot tucked into the side streets of Fairmount. I had dinner here on a whim with some family who was in town. I am a sucker for BYOs and restaurants within walking distance to my apartment, so I figured why not. I was a little nervous because Figs is “Moroccan influenced” and some of my family members prefer strictly American/Italian flavors. However the menu is balanced and diverse and while the Moroccan flavors were present, they were not overwhelmingly so. The decor of the restaurant is much like the flavors, Moroccan touches but not overpowering. It is a simply place with just enough décor to notice but still comfortable. The serve was adequate but not entirely personable- which was fine. To start I had the Baked Brie and it was the envy of the table! It was fabulous but quite sweet. Others at my table really enjoyed their salads (specially the roasted beet salad). I chose to go with the crispy duck for dinner, as the server said it was their most popular dish. While the duck was sweet, it was delicious and I recommend it highly. Another popular dish at my table was the rare tuna. Overall, Figs is a great little place that you can rely on for a nice meal with some interesting Moroccan twists!

We were here in the morning. We did not like the food. Products from mass-market, which are too lazy to even cook. The cheapest bun, which can be found in Pennsylvania, was used on a burger and sandwich, and it was not even grilled. Nothing would change if we bought a loaf, salad, and ham in a supermarket and put a burger right in the parking lot - it was not so tasty. McDonald's trying better. Also, the dripping pipe on the ceiling has water falling on me, and the waiter never removed the apple core, which the child had left before ordering food. We paid the bill and got ready to leave. At that moment a waiter ran out and made a scandal since he was not left with a tip.

We have been going to Figs for years. It does not change. and for this restaurant, this is a positive. The first time I had their smoked salmon and hummus "pizza", I fell in love and have continued to go back to get it! I love their duck, and the angel hair pasta Greek style is the stuff of dreams. We find the service to always be friendly and efficient. It is a very small place and fills up rapidly, so I suggest making reservations. The only negative to Figs is the parking, which can be very hard to find. But, that being said, it's worth the effort. Don't forget to bring a good bottle of wine and enjoy the cozy atmosphere and great food.

My husband and I are new to Philly and stopped by Figs for dinner last night. We stood at the door for some time before being seated by a young man who came out from behind the kitchen counter. He provided menus and poured water for us, then disappeared. We sat and waited, then waited some more, for a server to appear. After a few minutes we noticed a tall man in black, his back to us while he looked at something on the counter. We were growing hungrier. After about 5 minutes the man approached our table and without a word removed the 2 wine glasses from our place settings, then walked away. We didn't know the place was BYOB and were now quite confused. We sat and waited a couple more minutes, but no one appeared and so we got up and left. We felt quite unnerved! Now that we've read recent Trip Advisor reviews, we will try again, bringing our own bottle and hoping for a more hospitable server.

While the food was worth 3.5 or 4 stars, the service only merits 2. The waiter seemed not happy that the 3 of us only ordered 1 appetizer and two main dishes. He was a bit short with us. The dishes did not come with serving spoons and we had to ask for an extra plate and other items. There was no bread on our table.

Mustapha will take good care of you and tell you about the specials. We love the mezzes with the pita and the lamb dishes.

In spite of many tempting Moroccan-influenced dishes on the menu, I went with the whole fish--which that night, was Branzino--and was rewarded with a moist and perfectly cooked fish. I don't think I left a flake on the plate. One caution for diners who are not "locals," and that is that evening parking is very tough to find nearby. Plan to allow enough time to circle round patiently--and don't give up!

Went there because it was close to the Museum. The only accept cash. Waiter mixed up our orders. The good was ok. Nothing to rave about. Too many other bad reviews. Too many other places to try. Would not go back.

Recommend. This establishment handled our large crowd quite remarkably for a small restaurant. By remarkably I mean, all meals came out at about the same time, accurately and steaming hot. My swordfish was very tasty. Loved the rice. Appetizers and dessert (creme brulee) also tasty. It's BYO so remember your alcohol.

Breakfast is delicious! Cash only, relatively small menu

A little jewel behind the Museum of Art! Romantic, quiet, and delicious! But take cash! This restaurant does not take credit cards. (There's an ATM right out front) I have nothing negative to say about this little place.

Figs, a small restaurant in Philly's Fairmount neighborhood, features Moroccan cuisine with a middle-eastern flavor. The menu was imaginative, but we found that many of the flavors in our meals simply did not work well together. For example, the salmon (which was good), served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes (also good), was drenched in a sweet plum sauce (also good) which overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients. The salad was loaded with good things, but too many of them; the flavors didn't go well together. On the positive side, the combination appetizer (we had babaganoush, tzatziki, and stuffed grape leaves) was delicious; the atmosphere was nice, and the service was friendly. On balance, Figs is worth a visit; we'll give it another chance soon.

I went with seven people to this wonderful restaurant. We decided to share our food with everyone so we can taste all the different dishes.I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I did not want to share it was so good! I tasted the lamb, pasta and vegetable couscous. Everything was delicious. Fig's is a small restaurant so it's a good idea to have reservations. They also only take cash.

Our party of four recently dined at Figs on a quiet Tuesday night. As always, our different appetizers and entrees were expertly prepared and did not disappoint. Since it was not crowded we had no difficulty hearing one another and that was a pleasure, although the food quality and service merited more customers.

I was surprised by the many entree options offered. The salmon was unbelievable! Everyone in our party was extremely pleased with the level of service -- attentive and professional staff! There are lots of places to dine in Fairmount, but this is one place you don't want to miss!

Ate an early dinner here after a visit to an art museum exhibit. It is within short walking distance from the art museum. The decor is Moroccan inspired and cozy. The service was friendly and excellent. Had the spinach and pine nut phyllo triangle as an appetizer and the seafood risotto as an entree. The food was very tasty with good portions. Others we dined with had salads, mussels, the tuna and stuffed sole entrees. Everything was delicious. It is also BYO which is always a plus to keep the cost down.

On Friday night when restaurants in Philly are busy it can be a challenge to find a table so booking is advised. Having not done this we liked the look of Figs and seeing a few empty tables walked in. A waiter appeared. Absolutely no smile or greeting. We ventured to ask if by any lucky chance there was a table for two. All he said was "no reservation? ". We declined and he then uttered 3 words only... "Then cash only" and with that turned his back and walked away. Needless to day we walked out. We will not return.

Charming space, nice menu and good service, all with your own wine. An easy walk from center city hotel or accessible by bus.

I love great food, and Figs has it. I would call Figs the best of the best in the Fairmount/Francisville neighborhoods. From the shrimp risotto, to the pasta, to the ice cream, every bite is a delight. The owners are friendly and welcoming. When we go out for a nice meal, we always look for two things in a place : delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. Figs has it all. Love it.

Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night with a group of five ladies. It’s a BYOB so we bought a few bottles of our favorite wines. We started off with appetizers which were very good I think one of our favorites on the menu is the white fish salad. The sole stuffed with crab meat was good as was the seafood risotto. Everything is fresh and prepared to order. The risotto that night was a little bit on the soft side I generally like the rice with a little more bite to it.. The grill Bronzino was wonderful. I hadn’t been here in years but I will definitely return again sooner than later. One small thing our waitress was not as pleasant as we would’ve liked. Also The gratuity is automatically add to the meal .

I must admit am partial to this type of restaurant. I love small local places where the owner helps you have a great meal. The chef/owner here was incredibly friendly and even offered to help us find a parking spot in the crowded neighborhood. Each course we had was even better than the next. The trio of dips was delightful and we almost licked the plate clean with the yummy bread. My salmon dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We ended the meal sharing the Moroccan influenced apple pie and we left wanting more. It was all around great experience at a reasonable price.

wonderful

We had a delicious brunch. Reasonable prices. Outside seating. Very flexible about the menu, willing to substitute. Overall a great local place to eat. Located conveniently only a few blocks from the Philadelphia Art Museum.

their fiet mignon is awesome

Enjoyed my meal at Figs and highly recommend as a great value in the Art Museum area...the tab was about $35 for two course, and its BYOB. I enjoyed some tender steamed mussels with Morrocan seasonings, and crispy duck with a fig sauce and fruited bread pudding.. Everyone in my group liked their food, which included the mezze plate, grilled veggies on a skewer, lentil soup, the lamb tagine, salmon and swordfish. Everyone cleaned their plates! Although the food was excellent there were a few negatives: on a winter evening the dining room was cold and drafty. The service was adequate but not attentive. Its not the kind of BYOB where your server will open the wine and pour it for you, apparently, as our server simpled plunked a corkscrew down on our table next to the wine we brought. After our entrees arrived, our server diappeared for a long period and we had to ask for the check. It took about 2 1/2 hours to finish our dinner and pay...which was fine for our group but not OK if you had someplace to go.

We decided to take a walk and find a coffee spot outside of the museum . We found this amazing spot ! The food is fresh and delicious, it is a cozy little hideaway . The woman who helped us with selection was exceedingly polite , the coffee was a little slow to start , however , worth the slight wait. Brian had the Moroccan Eggs , amazingly delicious . I had an omlete with mushrooms and spinach, topped with Cheddar , again delicious! This is a must stop, when in the city !

We were a party of 5 that was 20 minutes late for our reservation on a Fri. night. Our table was gone...but...the manager was able to move a few tables around to seat us. We have been eating at Figs for the last three years and have had "THE BEST" grilled sea bass and branzino we may have ever eaten. The grilled steaks and salmon are also great. Get the homemade pistachio ice cream for dessert.

The food was OK, but I had a shock at the end when I learned that they don't take credit cards, and they don't provide printed receipts. This was a bit of a problem as my dinner and desert came out to $31. I had the cash but had to stop by the ATM on the way back to my hotel. If I was paying for two I wouldn't have had enough money. A restaurant with $20 entrees should not be cash-only.

My first visit to this gem in the Fairmount area was very satisfying! This quaint, charming restaurant has warm middle eastern decor and a menu that reflects this category. There are appetizers, salads and entrees that are interesting, tasty, well executed and present a good value! My salad was well appointed with greens, vegetables, fresh cheese and flavorful dressing. It was accompanied by bread a hummus. My entree of Leg of Lamb was tender on a bed of grains and vegetables. My friend ordered and enjoyed a dinner version of a beet salad. Though it is a BYO, the other patrons were very respectful of one another and were not loud! Service was efficient and attentive. It’s cash only and expect to pay around $40 per person for a salad, entree, tax and gratuity. The only negative aspect about experiencing this fine restaurant, is finding a parking is next to impossible. Despite that issue, it most certainly worthy of you exploration! Highly Recommended!

Although I see mostly positive reviews I didn't have that good of an experience at figs. Our reservation was at 8....one hour and 20 minutes later and two bottle of wine drank right in the middle of the dinning room, practically at somebody else's table because it was too cold to wait outside we were finally sat. the entire time the restaurant is so smokey that my eyes are constantly tearing. I am not sure if it is always like that or this was some special exhaust problem circumstance. the owner/ server is very pleasant, the food is...hmm not so much. I order you're typical caprese salad, my mistake because the tomatoes are not really in season but somehow i hope they still have the good ones..they do not. but I am absolutely outraged when I see Alex's appetizer: pepper crusted sea scallops, which I imagine to be these beautiful large seared scallops, come out as 10 tiny little scallops in a pretty tasty sauce. Its not that the description was deceiving because it didn't say they would be diver scallops, but this was not what i expected either. my dish of whole fish was pretty good, but its hard to mess up whole fish. The asparagus was very tasty. overall, i was not impressed with this place. A friend of mine told me the food was NOT good, however i didn't believe her because of such abundance of positive reviews. well, judge for yourself i guess.

Yesterday after visiting the Philadelphia Art Museum and then hiking to some of the historic houses in Fairmount Park, we decided to stay in the city for dinner and wound up at Figs, which is very close to the Perelman Building of the art museum. The sign on the door says CASH ONLY and BYOB. When our server greeted us, her first words were CASH ONLY and BYOB and we acknowledged both these aspects of the dining experience. We were early, so she told us we could select any table for two. We chose the one that looked out the window onto the street and had an entertaining neighborhood view during our meal. Service was excellent. Whatever we needed, our server brought, and she watched to see if water glasses needed to be refilled. The meal started with a complimentary bean dip and some bread with a great crust. My husband's cold tomato soup was fresh and refreshing with interesting spices. My beet salad with feta cheese and haricot vert dressed with the Fig balsamic was also very fresh and had some great tastes. Even my husband, who is not a beet fan, said it was delicious. Both of us chose the swordfish entree which comes on top of mashed potatoes. The serving was a decent sized one for the $21.00 entree, and it was cooked perfectly. The accompanying sauce included kalamata olives, tomatoes, and garlic....Yummy! For dessert we could not decide between fig and pistaschio ice cream, so we asked it we could have some of each. Both were delicious! All in all, it was quality food at a reasonable price for the city of Philadelphia. We definitely will be back some time in the future.

Great little place filled with happy customers. BYOB. Prices and portions VERY reasonable. Menu was filled with many choices - we ordered 5 appetizers for the 2 of us because we wanted to try them all...and every last one was delicious and served with a smile. Sashimi-tuna-to-die-for, scallops, smoked salmon pizza! and spicy mussels - could you decide? Also ordered the Mediterranian platter as a REAL appetizer which was also homemade and delicious. Great evening among (mostly) 30-somethings having fun.

This place was busy on the Saturday night that we went. The women taking the orders were sweet and friendly. It felt like a really nice local ,small, cosy place. Three of us ordered the branzino. It was tasty but not the best I have ever had.I was really disappointed in the " smoked applewood salmon pizza" appetizer. It was nothing but salmon on warm commercial pita bread. It was not even crunchy. I would not go back, but having said that....we where brought there by some locals who love the place.

My husband and I dined at "Figs" last evening. It was our first visit and I hope to dine there again. Our service was excellent ( timely, helpful and not intrusive ). The quality and presentation of our food was above what one might expect at a BYOB in its price range. Comfy neighborhood ambiance. Well worth every dollar!
read the reviews but were appalled by the actual experince
We ate at Fig's recently and had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. The food was mediocre at best but the service was atrocious. Please be aware that I read the reviews before we went and they were positive and praising of dining here. But what experienced was troubling. We we early diners and restaurant was not crowded. The woman who waited on us was quiet and OK. But the service deteriorated from there. We ordered soup, an appetizer and two entrées. It did not take long for th soup to arrive. The soup was white bean soup, OK but nothing special. We then waited for everything else. We waited for our water to be filled, waited for her to take our empty bowls, waited for our appetizer and then waited for our meal. Why did we wait? The the kitchen staff which I could see from my seat was having a towel fight, using their cellphones and joking around. They did prepare some food I saw them working at the stoves. But was It our meal? NO. The woman that waited on us brought that food out from the kitchen and sat down with another woman and proceeded to eat their dinner while we waited. She drank water from a bottled water bottle, is there something wrong with the water they serve customers that she who works there won't drink it? When she finally removed the appetizer plates from our table we asked if our meal would be ready soon. She went to the kitchen and said to the staff “she asked if their dinner was almost ready” and they all chuckled. They jumped up and proceeded to make our entrée. It took all of two minutes for our food to show up on the counter to be delivered to us. Since I ordered a dish with chicken and my dinner guest ordered Salmon it meant the the food was pre-prepared earlier and just sitting there in a warmer. The chicken was not tender and the salmon dried out. I feel that we were treated poorly and inconsiderately. The entrées averaging $20 each were clearly not worth the wait or rudeness. Will never go back!
