Nice dinner

By Wineandfood56 |

Went on Friday night during Thanksgiving weekend visit. Started in the bar with Old Fashion cocktail while others had G&T, and beer. Nice way to start the evening after coming in out of the cold weather. We shared a few plates with our family, burrata and fig, cassoulet, lamb flatbread and everything went nicely with the Zinfandel we brought with us. Desserts were wonderful and we finished with a little Amaro. Service and atmosphere contributed to a wonderful time.

Beautiful atmosphere and good food.

By bbaker5555 |

The astrosphere and very friendly staff make the visit to The Fireside worth the stop. The food is good, with some dishes better than others. Ask the staff for their favorites. They are very helpful. A must to go restaurant in the winter. Lovely fireplace.

Ultra-hipster vibe and the food was ok

By John |

The service was great, our server was really nice. Atmosphere there is fun as well. It's right on 23rd so that's a bonus. I was super unimpressed with the food. I got good old fashioned hamburger and it just didn't taste right. Can't put my finger on it, but it was weird.

Never disappointed

By livingontheriver |

I eat here frequently as it is close to work. When family or friends want to have lunch with me on a work day I always pick the fireside. There are several reasons for this, I have never been disappointed by a meal or a drink at this homey friendly restaurant. The staff is efficient and give you the space to have conversation with your companions, they give good clear information about each dish when asked and always accommodate food allergies without a fuss. The food is seasonal and delicious. The last time I was there, a few weeks ago, I and a companion both ordered the brussel sprouts and butternut squash in a maple glaze. Soooo delicious, I tried to replicate it at home but something was missing, I think I'll try and wheedle the recipe out of the chef the next time I am there. BTW they have great bartenders so just ask and they will create you something fab.

The. Best. Burger. Ever!

By Rohan B |

OK, if you visit Portland or live in Portland, you have to visit this restaurant for the best burger ever! A bacon cheeseburger to die for! And the fries are most excellent also! Kudos to the chef! The service is awesome too! Definitely worth a visit!

Great Bar and Wine Choice

By GavinWongUK |

Didn’t stop and eat at this place as was eating close by, but used this place as a meeting point for some wine before meeting a larger group for dinner. Great choice of wines on the menu, and even the old fashioned was done well. Service was attentive, and ensured we wasn’t waiting Too long for our next drink.

Beautiful location with terrace

By matdj |

Just ok

By Gmickers11661 |

Nice atmosphere with fireplace. Service a bit slow. Food was good but pricey. I had the grinder and it was good but not worth $15.00.

melt in your mouth meat

By Abby B |

Ask for their recommendations and always go for the MEAT entrees. Don't forget to get smores for dessert!

Poor food, poor service, high prices

By JessicaDPDX |

Nice atmosphere, but if you want incompetent wait staff, high prices and sub-par food and drink, this is the place for you.

Pretty good food

By Alex |

Tasty food at pretty good prices, I would recommend this eat for anyone on 23rd! They have some interesting things on their menu that make it worth a trip across town as well

Meh.

By Jenny W |

I went to this restaurant several years ago when they first opened, and I liked them. Got a cozy table by the fire, had the duck confit, it was nice. Since then however, a lot has changed. For one, Portland has quickly grown into a foodie paradise. In the last few years, so many great places have opened PokPok, Ox, Super Bite & Atuala just to name a few recent favs off the top of my head. Meanwhile, Fireside has remained stagnant while no longer offering the dishes I once enjoyed there. I had some coupons that I had to use up, so I stopped by twice this last week, and was surprised just how much the atmosphere has changed. Gone were the cozy fires and relaxed but tasty cuisine, replaced by boring overpriced mediocre fare and tables by the windows and fire reserved for mysterious patrons who somehow made reservations, for a restaurant who doesn't take them, and who through the course of your meal will fail to ever arrive. Glad I used up my coupons before they expired, but with all the other great places in town, I don't plan on going back and neither should you.

delicious, fresh brunch

By Ynadal |

had a veggie has for brunch and all the ingredients were so fresh you could taste the freshness. Sat at the bar, great atmosphere and service.

Trendy

By HDFireTrip |

Food is good but a warning... It's very rich. The drinks are good. It's a trendy little place on 23rd. So if you want to eat trendy this is the place for you!

A Relaxing Evening

By _glbetrkkr_ |

The Fireside does have a lovely ambiance, particularly the foyer and the huge fireplace. I have to agree with other reviewers that the food isn't anything to write home about, though... I came for happy hour and prices are very good for that time ($6 cocktails, wine and little plates). The squash fritter pairs well with the applesauce, but the fritter was definitely overlooked. We also ordered a salad which lacked dressing. Service at the bar was attentive and friendly, however. It's definitely a great place to come after work, even solo. It's cozy, friendly and a nice place to relax in the evening.

Unique Food and Flavor Combinations, Very Good Service

By BigIsleFoodie |

We found this restaurant while walking down a major restaurant/shopping street in the Alphabet District of Portland. The appetizers and main courses are not your typical fare. The ingredients are all fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend stopping by The Fireside.

Fabulous and Friendly

By Avery397 |

My sisters and I were in Portland on vacation and asked for a good restaurant that wasn't outrageously priced. The Fireside was the recommendation we received. We went during happy hour around 4:30pm. One of my sisters had a glass of wine Ann's the other a glad of beer. They liked their beverages and pricing was reasonable. I ordered the beet chips and french dip. The beet chips were very tasty and ran about $5. The French dip was $9 and consisted of a half sandwich and french fries. The portion side was good because I wanted tho save room for ice cream later on. The bread was nice and soft, the meat was juicy, and the dip was flavorful. My sister had the burger and really liked it. The service was tremendous and friendly. The restaurant decor is warm and earthy, yet a little contemporary and yes the fireplace was on, so we dined by the fireside. When you are in Portland, I highly recommend a stop at The Fireside.

Good food, Bad experience

By Matt H |

Took an hour to get a burger (we were one of three groups there, and the only ones that were waiting on food). I was brought out a sliced tomato as a peace offering (because of the long wait) - not sure who would be excited by basically a sliced tomato. Burger was good, but I was then unknowingly transferred to a new (seemingly unaware) waitress. I had to go find my original waitress to get my bill. Not impressed.

Great neighborhood place

By Anthony M |

Went here based on some reviews and it was better than expected, good service, good cocktails and international, beers and wonderful food. Had the warm olives (only other place to find them besides bar Avignon), the carrot and beet chips and the slow roasted pork shoulder. Overall impressed and will go back.

Birthday Lunch

By conniefm |

Very nice ambiance and the food was good but a couple of “policies”, rubbed me the wrong way. First, my friend and I ordered Arnold Palmers with 3/4 ice tea and 1/4 lemonade. She asked for one refill we were told we can only have the refill on the tea not the (2 ounces) of lemonade. Really? Talk about a moment that took me out of my experience. So now I had to actually think about it. My suggestion would be to raise the price of the drink so customers don’t feel annoyed by the pettiness.

Interesting Concept

By AJ S |

Service was great. Chilli was average; not a lot of flavor. Beet chips were different. Kabobs and flatbread were great. The staff was very helpful. I would have preferred more variety in the menu. Wine pairing were good.

Nice job for brunch!

By Skegger |

Had the Bennie with sausage, as suggested by our hostess. Worth it! Perfect eggs, great sausage, and hollandaise was rich and smooth. Totally attentive staff, good prices... color me surprised for something on NW 23rd.

Well-Executed Inventive Menu

By AcePortland_OR |

Friends and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Fireside. We walked in on a Tuesday evening at 6:30 without reservations and were able to get a table. Menu was innovative with unusual preparations and combinations of ingredients: octopus repeated flash cookings that made it very tender, garbanzo stew with mussels, salmon with braised leeks, grilled olives, all Brussels sprouts with squash in a maple syrup glaze. All were delicious. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Ambiance good, but noise level a bit loud with concrete floors, high ceilings, glass, but we three sat at a small table and conversed easily.

Delicious lunch

By disugi |

The grilled zucchini sandwich with creamy sheep cheese was delicious. The space is lovely. A great place to eat!

Centrally located good food

By travelerKolkata |

The restaurant is located in downtown area. It is quite popular with locals and we had done prior booking. The food was delicious and service prompt and friendly.

Great place for food, drinks, and watching the local life.

By D F |

We had drinks here one night and dinner here the next. In good weather, any table is great as the windows open fully and you get the open air feel while inside. You can also sit outside at tables fronting 23rd Ave or around the corner for a little quieter atmosphere. We had the fried cauliflower plate, panzanella (mozzarella, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, bread pieces), and beet chips. All were very flavorful and light. The beet chips had a harissa spice which gave them a unique flavor - savory to balance the slight sweetness of the beets. A sparkling brut went very well with all dishes.

Expected A Little More

By Bullet-PDX |

Read some local reviews and picked The Fireside for dinner out with my wife. Just a few blocks from home and went early without a reservation. No one at the door so sort of wandered to the dining room and was caught by the hostess. Requested an out-of-the way table but was told the particular one was reserved for party of four. We prefer the edge of a dining room to keep away from hustle and bustle. During the meal my requested table was reset 2 times. Table for 4 was reset for 6 then for 2. No one was ever seated. Service was good and wait staff attentive. Waiter had some suggestions which we tried. Food was good but description reached a little beyond execution. Best was Summer Stew. Lots of flavor, plenty of meat but a little over salted. Lamb Chops came from a very little lamb. No medallions of meat. Had a good flavor but nothing to cut from the bone and maybe one chew. Messy without a finger bowl. This looks like a good setting and place for a winter meal so we will try again.

Excellent food, drinks and exceptional service!

By Peeteega |

This was my first visit with a friend for dinner. We both sampled house cocktails and wine. Ordering from the small plate menu we got an assortment of steak bites (SO good) and side vegetables. The food was tasty, well seasoned, and could not have been any better. My friend ordered one cocktail which she said was very good. Mine was more "okay" for my tastes but that was simply due to what I chose. The wine selection was very good but for being in wine country, I felt the prices were too high. There are too many small vineyards that would love to be represented in a top notch Portland restaurant that could be priced more reasonably (or with a wider range of prices). What was the standout overall was the service. Larken was the best server (bar none) that I have had in a very long time. I eat out very frequently and travel extensively. That says a lot about her.

Delicious Food, Great Service

By Cathie C |

On a cold, dark evening, the two large fireplaces in this cozy restaurant added a lot of ambiance to our experience. Th food was delicious, and we especially appreciated our server. She was attentive without being intrusive. The bartender made an especially delicious Manhattan, the wine list was small but with good choices and not overpriced. We will definitely return to this fun spot on N,W. 23rd.

Great lunch spot

By KitVirginiaBeach |

Wonderful cold soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Nice outdoor seating, quick service, very friendly and helpful staff. Glad we came across it!

Excellent menu, good location and vibe

By TexanFansFromKaty |

We got a recommendation from a local about this place and it was outstanding. The dining room is dominated by a large fireplace. The bar served interestting drinks and the food was excellent. The brussels sprouts were the best we've had (and we get them everywhere!). The meat snack board was also great

Great Food. Great Service.

By Bonnie T |

Went to The Fireside for a late brunch and had burrata, shrimp skewer and beet chips - all delicious. Washed it down with a Karma Chameleon that starts out as a boozy Beefeater gin drink but ends up like a tasty grapefruit slushy as the grapefruit and Aperol ice cube melts and you chisel it to help it along. Our server was stupendous (Rory), as were the other servers who helped out. We look forward to coming here again.

Very nice restaurant

By TriRidge |

Varied, creative-looking menu. The 3 of us each had a dinner salad--all very good. The cobb salad was huge. Service was good. Wine prices were on the high side in my opinion, even for ordinary wines (so I didn't have any).

Delicious food, fun atmosphere

By foxsc |

We sat outside on the sidewalk watching the foot traffic on NW 23rd Ave and enjoying a delicious meal. The corn chowder with grilled sliced bread was delicious, as was the flatbread topped with crispy fried rosemary. It was a very enjoyable meal.

Great atmosphere, great food.

By ajeancompton |

We just went on Saturday, and although it was hot outside we still appreciated the cozy atmosphere of Fireside. There are big accordion windows which open onto the street, serving as a faux patio during hot weather. I haven't been there on a cold day yet, but the two huge fireplaces look incredible! The food was declious, too - we tried the pepper spread with homemade crackers which was fantastic, and I had a lovely "picnic lunch" with the bean spread which was so good. If you go, make SURE you order an adult beverage made with tonic - they make their own house tonic and it is to die for. I don't think I could go back to regular tonic now!

Excellent New Restaurant in NW District

By CondeCox |

Nice heirloom tomato dish with cheese, grillled chicken with cherries, grilled poblano chiles, and excellent wine selection by the glass and really good local beers on draft. For the money, the best place to eat in the Alphabet District. This place is crawling with locals from the neighborhood. Atmosphere is the best in the NW, better than the high end places, even Paleys.

Unique cafe in Portland neighbourhood

By tomshiff |

A very warm & welcoming atmosphere, great decor, and cozy fireplaces invited us into this corner cafe on 23rd, a great street to walk with many shops and restaurants. A big fire pit near the back made you feel like you were sitting near the campfire. Although the day was a bit cool the day we were there, the huge windows all could be opened. Some beautiful art hung on the walls. OK, the food, very eclectic menu, I had the pizza, which was a flatbread, no tomato sauce, which I love. Carmelized onions, mushrooms and sausages, the crust and toppings were just right. My wife had egg in a hole, which I used to cook on camping trips. She loved it for the flavour and nostalgia. Beautiful selection of deserts. If we had been in Portland longer, we would definitely gone back for dinner. The bar look pretty inviting as well.

COZY COZY COZY -- PLUS GOOD FOOD

By pdxcook |

The perfect spot on one of Portland's (occasional) rainy evenings -- open fireplace in the back area was really a welcome touch. Fireside seems to specialize in grilled/charred items -- the mixed veggies were served with a tasty aioli, the grilled lettuce salad was excellent -- the serving of mussels was VERY large -- excellent chocolate pot a creme for dessert. We were there around 8 and the ambience was quite nice. It's great to sit across from your dinner partner and actually be able to have a conversation without shouting. Will definitely go back to sample the rest of the menu.

BAD. SLOW SERVICE. INCOMPETENT WAITRESS

By Jean C |

Bad slow service, incompetent waitress and subpar food. my husband and i came to this restaurant on a tuesday around 12pm. There were maybe 3 other small tables. first, my husband had a coffee from another restaurant in a cup and the waitress made him pour it into their mug. We ordered an omelet and I had a salad. Our order took 45 minutes to get to us!! The waitress avoided eye contact and didn't even bother coming to check on us and why we were waiting for our meal. The things we ordered are so basic. An omelette takes 10 minutes to make and a salad?! come on! At one point, my husband signaled to another waitress to get her attention and ask what was taking so long. She made eye contact with him and ignored him and went to the table she was serving! all the other tables got their food. It was so RUDE! NEVER RETURNING AGAIN! SUCH Bad service for sub par food! no thanks

We were there on a Thursday night and it was relatively quiet. The food was excellent as was the service.

Good For Drinks !

By Dave R |

This is a real nice cozy place with fireplaces in the front and back area. Nice bar, the menu does not have many options to choose from. The service is amazing. Great place to start the evening with for drinks and appetizers.

Overall good

By Chris C |

Lunch visit. Service was good, food was good, pleasant interior, sidewalk seating if you desire. Worthwhile

Overrated food and place

By loloDLagos |

According to the reviews I thought I was gona have a good time.....Apart from the atrea which is very nice, the restaurant has nothing special to offer you; Overrated prices, poor quality of food which came cold....apart from the fire place and style which could attract you, avoid the place.....you can find much better with less show off and much better food.

Cozy, congenial

By Sam&Peggy |

Many restaurants to chose from if walking along NW 23rd. We liked the Fireside, very welcoming, no television, tables respectfully separated., lighting subdued. And, yes, the food: Menu manageable, food fresh, drinks reasonable, she had a good wine, I had a local beer. Never rushed, In sum, a pleasant evening.

Pleasant environment, not a place for snack/drink in between shopping

By kingsgate |

Uninteresting snack food and disappointing drinks (coffees and sodas). Service was disinterested and restrooms dark. Feels like it's trading on location and decor, not the food. Hopefully the main meals are better.

Chill Vibe with Cozy Comfort

By C K Trevillyan |

HH at 3:00 so right out of the gate a great start. If craft cocktails is your bag baby, then this is a win! Smaller tap list but nice choices. Here is the killer part: my beer arrived after 2 mins after ordering (from a table by the massive fireplace) and almost a whole 30seconds later my burger and fries slid in front of me. Thanks Oscar well done sir. If you’re tired of the PDX Mcmen***** slow crawl to find their way to your table, then step in to this amazing chill vibe. Don’t get me wrong love the landmark locations, even got my passport, but when you’re hangry, waiting isn’t chill! Did I mention the fireplace? Super sized goodness. Food: The burger was pretty ok, hand pressed patty, veggies were cool and crisp, the fries tho made me smile. Old school skinny nice and salty and crispy.

Nice bar with open air feel

By divefan |

We just popped in for drinks, but found the bartender to be friendly, the noise level acceptable, and the drinks good, if a little pricey. Try the "Airmail".

Warm Yourselves By The Fireside

By Al_Doyle_Seattle |

It was late on a Satuday night. We had just traveled by Street Car from downtown Portland to Northwest. We weren't starving, but knew it was time to sit, relax and enjoy the nightly Portland hipster parade on NW 23rd. We made a great choice. The Fireside is friendly, warm (fireplaces, of course) and attentive. We found a place at the bar, took over our stoosl and enjoyed an hour of so of very good cocktails, imaginative appetizers and personal service. Try the beet chips and the grilled brussel sprouts. The menu was very promising which leads us to the conclussion we'll be back for a full dinner on our next visit to Portland.

Portland's 23rd - Alphabet District

By Cal Chickie |

Great little district to visit with loads of charming little stores to browse in. We made reservations at the Fireside. Such a cute place with character! One of the cocktail we enjoyed was the Fireside Spanish Gin and Homemade Tonic. Very nice presentation! We ordered small plates/appetizers to share. The Ribeye Kabobs and Crab Cakes were very good. Service was friendly and good.

Tasty Lunch

By Kenipela |

The family and I stopped in for lunch while doing some Christmas shopping. We were seated quickly and placed our order within minutes. My husband and I split the open faced beef sandwich and our son and daughter in law split a burger. Our sandwich came with a nice green salad, which was easy to split onto the second plate the server brought. I cut our sandwich in two and gave myself the smaller portion, which was a bummer since my second bite was pure fat and gristle. Ew. I then looked under the melted cheese and top layer of beef to remove the rest of it, and ended up with a pretty sparse remainder. The ketchup that came with the kids' burger was great, but when we asked for more for my sandwich and her fries, the server only brought another tiny cup. I don't like begging for condiments. I'd eat here again, but specify only lean beef on my sandwich and don't be shy with the ketchup, even if it is house made.

Great retreat on a snowy winter night

By Ellen S |

Friendly, casual atmosphere. Classic original tonic water for excellent G&T. Chipped beef, crispy hash and perfectly done egg on a small plate as a simple meal enjoyed alone, while escaping from the cold and the traffic. I will find my way back here many times I think.

Great ambiance!

By 898douglasp |

Great place. Beautiful fireplace in the front. Open atmosphere. Right on 23rd so it’s easy to get to. Ordered the seared olives for an appetizer and they were really good. Ordered the roast pork with cranberries and kale because they were out of the grilled trout ☹️. The pork was tasty but had too much marbleling (or fat if marveling doesn’t apply to pork)??? All in all, a pretty good meal in a really cool establishment.

Great space & delicious food!

By Jennifire |

This is a lovely space with great use of indoor/outdoor space allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoor weather or sit cozy by the fire! Food was delicious!

Memorable Anniversary Dinner at the Fireside

By JegWA |

The food, service and casual ambiance at this restaurant are all top-notch. We had the seared halibut special and it was "to die for." We also loved the brussels sprouts appetizer and had a great bottle of wine. We'd definitely go back for another meal here.

Good service, cute restaurant, worst cocktails of all time

By kirstenkrazy |

The service was really nice and the restaurant has a very cute feel. The actual firepit in the middle is such a neat concept, was perfect on a cold day. We only stayed for cocktails and they made me wish I had never set foot inside. I'm all for trying new flavors but goodness, these were truly horrific. We ordered their special mimosa and a gin/sparkling wine cocktail. All I could taste were ginger, cardamom and other strong flavors - it was like drinking Indian spices. Too much.

A Fun Happy Hour in a Cozy Environment , right on 23rd.

By LaJollaLauren |

This was a nice Happy Hour experience. The food was yummy and the atmosphere was lovely, but what made this the most enjoyable was a local man sitting next to us at the bar named Jim, who had wonderful suggestions on other spots to eat and places to explore in Portand. We ate the smoked trout on crostini and had the squash fritters, which were delicious. The servers were friendly. This was a nice, easy happy hour experience. The location is GREAT for walking up and down 23rd where there is a lot to do!

Super value, great atmosphere, service a little new/slow

By BAJefferson |

This place had great, sunny, open air seating for lunch. We were seated promptly, although the restaurant wasn't very busy anyway. It seemed like they could have used another server, because the bartender was serving us in addition to his entire bar as well. He was very nice, but seemed a little new and overwhelmed by the numbers. Food is a great value. Grilled olives were delicious. The soft-boiled egg is tiny, so just be aware of that. The burger was yummy and local.

Great find

By echohumpingmonkey |

My friend and I wandered into this restaurant on our first day in Portland. We picked it because we really liked the décor / atmosphere but I'm so glad we took the chance. The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the pork and beans and it was heaven. My friend ordered a cup of the corn chowder which was so fresh it was like eating corn on the cobb. We also shared an order of the toasted bread with house churned olive oil butter and I wanted to cry from happiness. I only wish it was in my own town so I could eat there more often!

Tiny Menu

By TravelingDad_PTFC |

Came here about 4:00 on a Sunday and happy hour was going on. Menu was pretty small, with only a few appetizers, a French Dip sandwich and a Cheeseburger. I was really looking for something more, so asked if there was another menu, but nope, that was it. I ordered the cheeseburger, fiance' ordered the French Dip. Both came with fries and both were very tasty. We also ordered some grilled olives to snack on and a cocktail. Everything was good and the prices were surprisingly low. I just wish we had more of a menu to choose from.

Awesome service, great menu, nice August outdoor dining!

By Kevintrotter123 |

My biggest challenge was picking an entree...all 7 items looked really really good. Good beers on tap and the service was exceptional...they even gave us recommendations for good dessert places up the street because we said we wanted to walk around after dinner.

Nice Place

By marcolet |

Lovely vibe in this bar. Was always busy. We stopped there a number of times for both drinks and food. Always sat at bar. Friendly staff. Burger and crab cakes very good and reasonably priced. Outdoor seating available with outdoor heaters.

Only had time for cocktails

By Brad M |

Service was great. We were seated outside so had a bit of sidewalk cafe feel. Cocktails were delicious.

Yummy cocktails & Delightful dishes!

By Beth F |

Have yet to be disappointed by the ambiance, food or cocktails @ this place! Great burger & veggie burger, roasted lettuces, chicken...ALL quite DELISH!

If you're looking for an outstanding dining experience, you can't go wrong at Fireside.

By jbellzell |

Everything about Fireside provided us with a truly enjoyable eating experience. The place itself is cozy and charming located on a street lined with small restaurants and shops. When we arrived we were welcomed, seated right away and after our order was placed, we were served within a short period of time by a friendly and efficient waitress. Bread was served with an olive butter, small pieces of olive in the butter. The menu offerings were varied from small plates to regular sized entrees. My husband and I ordered the trout which was prepared in a light, citrusy sauce. Very delicious and flavorful. For dessert we shared the chocolate trifle which was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had - a chocolate pudding with caramel mousse. It was really super. The coffee was also excellent. Prices for this wonderful meal were moderate.

Legendary cocktails, very nice food

By Emma C |

When I took my first sip of the Walk in the Woods cocktail, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Yet to come may have been even better. My friend swore she'd never have another cocktail after experiencing the Rhubarbarella, because she'd found The One. You get the message! Have the cocktails. Our server was excellent - really sweet and funny. The food was very nice and very reasonably priced for the service & atmosphere - though not quite as outstanding as the cocktails. We had a great night here.

Great place to gather with friends

By panneoleary |

This is a great spot to get together with friends. They have a nice drink menu and excellent service. Definitely order the crispy cauliflower and kale. It has a sweet chili sauce on it that is so yummy that I could have eaten 3 bowls of it.

Great spot!

By KikiLeigh7 |

This place has truly great food, friendly bartenders and a unique atmosphere. If you are a foodie this is a great spot for you!

Wow! Cozy, Friendly, Excellent Food

By Lew S |

We were drawn in by the coziness of the bar and 2 fireplaces - and not disappointed. Service was gracious and attentive. The wines by the glass were solid (but not terrific) and the food we ordered perfect for lunch. Of course we will be back!

Friendly, tasty

By PV74 |

Three of us went for dinner and had a mix of foods as this American restaurant on 23rd street - steak, halibut, cove salad were all good. Starters were also tasty. Service was friendly and efficient! I’d recommend a visit if you’re in the area and looking for good food.

Nice restaurant, inside and outside seating

By Peter E |

We went there for dinner. Cozy inside and outside seating downtown Portland. Small but fine menü. Had the fish of the day which was King Salmon. Excellent!

Everything Was Just Perfection

By kawh |

Ever have one of those meals where they put you at exactly the right table with a nice fire and lots of people-watching? And then the waitress comes and she is just perfect-- makes you feel like an insider-- friendly, but not a creepy pal? And they guide you to the perfect wine that doesn't cost a fortune? Then the food comes and it's fresh, amazing and a big portion to boot?? That was our meal at The Fireside. We wanted to go to Papa Haydn up the street, but it looked like a long wait... so wandered into this place. Salad was so big that we happily split it (guided by the staff, thank you.) So sick of paying over $10 for a teeny-tiny plate of organic field greens. This had tons of beets, perfectly cooked. I had a pot-roast kind of dish that was homey and layered with flavor. Hubbie had the pork (loin?) and just loved it. They make delicious food at a reasonable price in a cozy atmosphere with perfectly perfect service. Can't wait for my next trip to Portland!

It looked good and it was good.

By Steven S |

I was exploring the Nob Hill area of Portland and The Fireside caught my eye. It was a lovely day and they had outdoor dining. My server Hanna made a nice recommendation for a cocktail and a dish, and I recommend the Shrimp Po'boy. It was different than the Po'Boys that I have had in New Orleans, but very good. Lot's of tiny shrimp on a very tasty roll. It also came with a nice salad, and that you NEVER see with a po'boy in NOLA. I was glad that I stopped in.

Disappointed

By richard g |

We liked the ambiance and the service was great! The onion rings are to die for. Expected the prices to be high but we certainly did not get quality for money paid for our salads and steak-the New York cut had far too much gristle so the eating experience was not what I had hoped for

Delicious & creative cuisine with flare...

By northernlights7 |

Excellent food, service and decor. Enjoyed the outdoor seating on a late summer evening. Grilled strawberries for dessert were divine! Do not miss.

2nd time is not a charm

By Mark S |

2nd time visiting the Fireside. Server was quite arrogant, ignored our polite requests for drinks and condiments in a timely fashion. They also didn’t bother to write down our orders, so it wasn’t a surprise that they got them wrong. Food gets 8 / 10 - too bad they are let down by their front of house. I had hoped more from this place as they have a nice atmosphere.

Very Accommodating Staff

By Tallkid |

Visited this restaurant with my husband on our first day arriving in Portland. Even without a reservation. the hostess and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I had a spicy, Thai flavored chicken sandwich and my husband a big Green Salad with Chicken. Each entree was prepared and presented well. My husband though would have preferred a little more chicken added to his salad. I can definitely recommend this restaurant for the utmost in friendly service and good food.

Interesting menu, small space, hardly room for our table for 6

We stopped by for lunch during the bitter cold in early December and were happy with the food and drinks. The only concern I had was how they set up our table for 6. The table was aligned with a set of steps, such that those of us on that side of the table....if we pushed our chairs back too far...down the steps we would have gone. It is really set up for intimate groups and not large groups, if you call 6, a large group. Food was great and the menu had lots of unique dishes. They helped out with one of our group that is both lactose and gluten intolerant. So, bravo to the kitchen!

Unexpectedly good

By CaroltheMTLfoodie |

So I popped into this place for a quick dinner, not expecting much. But this place delivered. I had the burratta with figs and the lamb chops, along with some local Pinot Noir. The barman wasn't the friendliest guy in town, but all in all, it was a good meal.

Unique dishes, great atmosphere

By DereknPaul |

We really enjoyed our lunch at Fireside. Very unique dishes (Pig Candy), well thought out and prepared. Delicious. Highly recommend.

Nice Atmosphere

By Darci A |

My friend and I ended up here because our first choice down the street was closed. We hoped they had a patio but instead we settled for outside curb seating. The servers were nice and we were able to sit there for awhile to catch up and chat, which I appreciated! The drinks weren't super fantastic, but not too bad. We only had apps but they were pretty good too. Inside the place is cool and laid back and we would go back and sit inside.

Great Food & Atmosphere

Last night in Portland and found this great restaurant. Food excellent and reasonably priced with shared entree and two main meals with cocktails and a bottle of wine $100 plus tip. thoughry recommend

Omg !!!

By jamesn142 |

We stopped at a winery and told about the seafood at Fireside. The food was outstanding. The service was incredible and the staff was so helpful in finding us a hotel. This is a restaurant we would definitely go to again when we are in Portland.

Love it!

By g0gurl |

My husband and I have been back twice and already we feel like we're regulars. The first time we stopped was for lunch. I had the grilled cheese and soup, which the chef cheerfully augmented with chow chow & mustard. Sounds ho-hum but it bordered on gourmet. My husband had pulled pork sandwich which was more ho-hum, but still good. The staff is great - very accommodating. It's clear they work as a team. The second time we stopped was for drinks after a movie. Love the bar. It's in the front of the building with windows all around so you can enjoy the street scene while enjoying your drinks. Bar staff is also very accommodating. We'll be regulars.

Delicious food, fun atmosphere

By Brian A |

A great place to go with a small group (1-4). Cozy and quiet interior, open windows to the bustling street outside. Portland's weather plays perfectly with The Fireside's open windows and alfresco dining. The food is not pretentious, simple but flavorful. A top pick!

People watching and delectable food

Perfect for a tourist stop this very Portland style eatery is in eccentric Portland boutique neighborhood. All delicious. It's quite noisy but reasonable prompt

Girlfriend lunch

By Kelly B |

In town visiting friends and were stilling through the district for lunch. It was a mild day so the open air atmosphere with fire pits drew our attention. Fun small plates to share. Started with the grilled olives and beet chips. The squash small plate should have just been a side dish served with an entree and nothing special. The lamb sand which with a curry sauce was very good. I would recommend this place more for drinks and apps.

Nice Spot for a night out

By lulu213 |

We sat outside, enjoying the people-watching on always-lively 23rd Avenue. Our waitress was friendly, and I would say, stellar. She really seemed to want us to have a good experience. We started with the red pepper spread and crackers, which was quite good, though I would suggest a little less butter and more peppers. The albacore tuna was excellent, healthy, light and tasty. My husband's burger was juicy and good. I would definitely recommend this as a relaxing night out. Indoors, the fires looked like they would by cozy on a rainy night.

Nice Food- off service day

By OregonSharon |

This was a first visit on a Sunday morning. Great buzz with a women's group at the bar, a gathering of friends for a birthday, other couples and groups at tables. Sat at the bar with a great view of the bartenders handling drinks. Food was great (French dip sandwich and Breakfast Tartine)- but it took almost an hour for it to arrive. The server apologized and discounted our meal by 50%. We will certainly return and hope to find a faster kitchen.

Trendy, greatest service and YUMMY food!

By Benee H |

Great little place in the trendy 23rd Street neighborhood. Ask for the grilled bread. Ahhhhh yum! My twin sister's, client's family, owns the restaurant. Waitress was knowledgeable and super friendly. Try the fried chickpeas, lamb riblets and marinated olives for an appetizer then move toward the elk chili, the mussels(large and balanced PERFECTLY with white whine and creme fraiche), or the morel risotto cake. All were unbelievably flavorful and were perfect sized! Need to end with their Fireside Smores! Yes, it was like we made them ourselves in a beach bon fire! Great meal! GREAT service!

Hash, legal

By COtennis |

We had brunch on a Saturday early afternoon. Veggie hash with fava beans and potatoes and eggs, along with a cheeseburger and fries. (We don't eat meat much, but had just arrived in Portland and were very hungry.) Veggie hash beans cooked perfectly, eggs over easy and potato chunks easy to eat, not crunchy. Cheeseburger's beef was luscious -- hearty flavor, wonderful texture. Atmosphere = airy interior, if a bit crowded for table space. Service was acceptable because it was quite busy and we had to be patient for coffee refills. Worth the price. (It's Portland ...)

One of my favorites in pdx

By MariaGpdx |

I came here multiple times for dinner and everything on their menu is delicious. Some things I particularly recommend are the salmon on the polenta, as well as the albacore tuna or a cheeseburger. I would make reservations for outdoor seating, as 23rd is such a cute street, especially in the evening. Definitely come to the Fireside!

So good we came back the next day!

By Denise A |

We really enjoyed both the atmosphere and the food at Fireside. We came back two days in a row during our 3 day visit. Everything was outstanding

Great place for good food and friendly staff

By Patrick N |

Every time when we are visiting this area, we need to go to this restaurant. Whether it's for lunch or dinner, the food is always good. You can sit outside (Summer) and inside and enjoy the cosy atmosphere.

Nice after a rainy morning

By Michelle |

We came here after a rainy morning trip to Multnomah Falls. We had a large booth near the fire place in the back of the restaurant. My friend had some dietary restrictions and they accommodated her. The meals were brought out promptly. The burger was juicy and the steak cooked to perfection. The flat bread was an interesting mix of flavors.

Best New Drink

By Teri W |

Just discovered a new favorite drink, Ancho Villa-- made with blanco tequila, watermelon juice, ancho Reyes chili liqueur, cayenne salt. Super delicious! Great bartenders, friendly staff, cool atmosphere. Didn't eat, but eyed several good looking plates.

CUTE SPOT + GREAT FOOD

By Mariah McAlpin Ezra |

We randomly stopped in here for a burger and it was SO good! It was above your average burger and I personally liked their thin fries that came as a side. The decor is also really nice and super cozy!

Great for Highball Week

By champagneofbeers |

Without reservations and at the end of Highball week, the group of 5 of us was worried about finding some space to get together, have a drink, and talk. Fireside was a great place to start the evening-classy, not too crowded, and a niche at the bar. Their highball drink was unique and tasty, the bartenders attentive, and a good atmosphere. It seems a little fancy and upper whatever, given that it is on NW 23rd, not surprising.

Just ok

By Elicia B |

Went with my husband for our anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is great, and we got to sit right next to the fire pit in the back. My husband is a vegetarian, so we ordered mostly meat-free, and maybe the meat dishes are better, but most of what we had was nothing to write home about. We won't bother going again, unless I stop in for a cocktail and just want to snack on the few things I liked. Here's what we had: Beet chips - tasted as though the beets hadn't been peeled. A little more earthy than necessary. (Yes, I know beets are earthy. I've had them prepared without the dirt taste often enough to know it's possible and expect it from restaurants) Rye crackers with fromage blanc - great! Would order again Roasted squash - pretty much no flavor. Where did they get their winter squash that it was so bland?? Tomato soup - delicious. Burrata and pears - nothing special. The pears were cold, which was odd. It was a very small burrata dish for $11. Burger - a very average burger. Absolutely not a $14 burger. Grilled olives - ok. Citrus flavor overpowered everything else.

Good food.

By BergenTravel |

The restaurant is located at a great spot. You can sit near a window and watch the world go by or enjoy the vibe inside. They have good food and drinks. Friendly staff. We were a large party and they gave us what we needed. The menu has something for everyone.

Great atmosphere

By Denise M |

We stopped here for drinks and appetizers. Lovely atmosphere with beautiful windows and a cozy fireplace. Try the grilled olives and the bread with olive butter. Yum!

Nice ambiance with the fireplaces but service could be better

By Mary W |

The ambiance was very cozy with the two fireplaces on each end of the restaurant. The bar is centrally located and very inviting. The food was good. Service was so-so. It took at least 20 minutes to get my first drink - prosecco; and it was delivered in a white wine glass. We ordered the same one for my guest. We saw the drink sitting on the bar and it was delivered to us by the time I finished the first one. So my friend would not be drinking alone, we ordered another one and this one came in a champagne flute which should have been the case with the first two. Again, it came after my friend finished his drink. It seems like they could only bring one drink at a time. Then our food took another long time to get it. We got the food and ordered red wine to go with it. We received the food and the wine came when we were almost finish with our meals. Yikes!!!!

Delicious Food

By bubbelbine |

We went on a walk and ended up here during happy hour. It was so good, we made it a full dinner. The burger was outstanding, and the side salad had an insanely good dressing with it. We also tried the tomato soup, and it was really good. The cocktails and local beer made it perfect. We are happy we stumbled in here and will definitely be back!

Trendy location

By Janine B |

Trendy location with optional outdoor seating. Service was quick and friendly, food was delicious! I had the plowmans, the interpretation was interesting, toasted bread, chicken liver mousse and sheeps milk cheese served with a perfectly boiled egg. Not the plowmans I'm used to but delcious all the same. Don't let the chicken liver mousse put you off it was very good.

Try a different restaurant.

By Gareth F |

Our food was laughably bad at The Fireside. My wife had a "rack of lamb" which was, without exaggerating, at least 85% fat. I had a completely flavourless burger served on a stale bun. We joked amongst ourselves that the only good thing on the table was the beer! Despite all this, our waitress was excellent and she handled our displeasure with great panache. We were kicking ourselves for not eating at any of the other tempting eateries in this neighbourhood.

Fireside Drinks on a Cold Rainy Day

By sulphursister |

Absolutely loved the ambiance of this cozy little place. We were there on a girls trip to Portland, and it started raining, so we ducked in here to get of the rain and low and behold....a fireplace! With a table plenty big to hold all 7 of us right next to the fire. How lucky were we? We enjoyed wine and cocktails here very much. The decor is very rustic urban. Love this place!!!!!! Will definitely visit again next time in Portland!

Great Location, Tastey Food

By Andrew H |

In a very trendy location on busy 23rd Street we found this eatery with great atmosphere. My entire family enjoyed there meals. I loved the steak. Super friendly serving staff too. Really enjoyed the people watching in and out of the restaurant.

Tasty Small Plates

By Marlynne P |

This restaurant has many reasonable small plates that are tasty and filling. The grilled olives are salty and warm and the grilled lettuce is unusual, filling and oh, so good! The service is good and the indoor/outdoor seating comfortable. One gets to try several things to share and the prices are quite reasonable.

lovely lunch

By Helen R |

It was noisy. But the lunch was great. Cassoulet. Yum. Big salad. Nice knife and fork salad. Expensive wine. Fancy drinks.

Rory made our dinner fun!

By CruisenFamily |

Walked right in on a Friday night and sat right down at a great table near an open window. Our waiter Rory was fun and attentive with great recommendations. I had the halibut special that evening and enjoyed it immensely. They make their own tonic (I had a vodka tonic) and I'm not quit sure why they do this and it's a little different tasting - Rory told me this before I got it which was appreciated. Atmosphere is comfortable and casual. People were dining outside with their dog. Enjoyable evening on a nice warm summer night.

Great Food Great Service

By ALAN H |

We were in Portland for the Shanghai Underground Tour. After the tour we were searching for a restaurant that would accommodate our party of 7. After checking the establishments on 23rd, we weren't having any luck finding a place without an hour or more wait time and enough room to accommodate our part. We walked into The Fireside and they were able to seat us right away.. even tho they were poppin' busy. Our server "Rory" was awesome. He kept us entertained and laughing throughout our lunch.. he didn't over do it.. his service was exceptional. We were able to taste a few different food items and ALL were delicious and we will be definitely be back when we visit Portland, hopefully soon.

Excellent Happy Hour

By Oceantoes |

We arrived during a warm downpour happy to see the large windows open and were seated near the window to watch the rain. We enjoyed an Apperol spritzer, IPA and coffee with cream during our meal of traditional happy hour bites, rib steak skewers (so succulent my husband ordered more) good size bowl of thin fries, just how we like them. Soup (pasta fagioli) and grilled cheese sandwich was DELICIOUS, crispy fried parmesan coating, melty cheesy goodness inside. Homemade sauces get special mention-garlicky aioli & yogurt dill made it stand out. Love the atmosphere, Portland hip while being cozy and casual with the fireplaces going. Our server was great. We'll be back for dinner, the menu looks amazing, and we were impressed by the quality of the ingredients.

Great Food and Service

By Justin F |

We recently ate at Fireside during our trip to Portland for our honeymoon. We were in the area to see the Vaux Swifts at Chapman Elementary and decided to go out for dinner. The staff at Fireside was very friendly and had good recommendations for the food. The food and beverages were delicious and were reasonable portions. We both cleared our plates. The bar area within the restaurant had a good number of patrons. The surrounding area seemed very popular for night life as well.

Delicious

By HienSD |

Staff was super friendly and very efficient. They all treated my baby really nice. Setting is nice and cozy. Great for dates I think but we enjoyed it very much as a family too. Meat board was delicious. Favorite was the chicken liver mouse. Had soft egg and pickled asparagus as appetizer and it was great as well. Would definitely go back there.

A great spot for a cocktail

By journeywithbuster |

We stopped in at Fireside for a cocktall and cheese board on our last night in Portland. Its a great room, with really comfortable bar stools. The cheese plate was really good and at $13 we thought it was very good value. Though we didn't eat, the food coming out looked great and we would try it next time.

Great Fried Chicken

By Michael A |

My husband is always looking for the best fried chicken and is usually disappointed. We went with another couple to Fireside for Tuesday Fried Chicken night and It was a BIG winner. These guys know fried chicken. We were skeptical because their version is boneless but it was truly great. People say this is a trendy little place but we are older and don't care about that. We just know we loved the food and the service was terrific. The server was so nice, he brought us complimentary beet chips (delish...who wouldda thought) and a lovely little dessert that we couldn't identify but boy, that was great too. This was entirely unexpected and very much appreciated. We'll definitely be back....probably for Meatloaf Monday!

Great breakfast dishes

By mrlabelman |

My son lives close by so we walked here for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. We love breakfast food and the selection was great. There was a nod to tradition but different enough to be interesting and tasty. I had the biscuits and gravy. It was delicious.

Outside is not much to look at but inside great and good food

By margaretcov |

It was a rainy and storming afternoon and this place was great. Yes, it is fireside. Inside is smart and the food is a match. I had the meat and cheese board. It came with a poached egg and although it was quite tasty, it did run all over my board. The very best liver pate I have had in a long time

Great Bar

By Rob O |

The wife and I dropped in here for drinks while exploring dt Portland. They had fresh holiday cider brewing which made the whole space smell amazing. Lots of fun drinks to choose from. I had the old fashioned with bullit rye. It was very good. Their food menu looked really good as well. Especially for brunch.

Great Snack and Cocktails

By AliBug |

My husband and I were walking around the neighborhood and found this lovely place. It was a beautiful day so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Hannah was our waitress and was spot on. She left us wanting for nothing. We had a snack of delicious french fries and a scrumptious soft boiled egg. The cocktails were huge which was wonderful. This was a great place to take a break.

Hip delicious and great design

By Susan B |

While poking around the 23rd street and hawthorne shopping area - and looking for a good place for lunch I came across the Fireside. Immediately I was graciously offered a table or bar seating. I chose the bar- and the bartender was terrific. The soup of the day. Apple-turnip with curry oil and grilled bread with churned olive butter. YUM A glass of a French gamay Life is good. I was in Portland with my mom and stepfather who was having surgery at OSHU. Taking the tram down from the hospital, catching the terrific Portland streetcar. Really easy and convenient and such a great way to see the city.

Great Advice

By Les & Marianne |

Stopped in for dinner our first night. Fun place, good menu, not too expensive, and a very bright waiter originally from Alaska who gave us some good advice for traveling if we ever go there. For modern casual we highly recommend.

Very friendly open air patio bar with warm wood.

By T J |

We walked in and the bartender immediately caught our eye to welcome us. A varied menu with a varied European wine selection plus Oregon and California wines. We always look for a Spanish selection and found it. Class, comfort, great value. Two wonderful fireplaces for winter ambiance. Can't wait!

Saturday night cocktails and Sunday afternoon brunch!

By kimmer1266 |

We stopped in the Fireside for a cocktail on our first night staying in Portland. My husband and I each had a delicious, hand-crafted cocktail... mine was vodka based and his was tequila based. The ambience-lighting was too dim for my 40 something eyes, so in a off-handed way I asked the bartender if he had a pair of reading glasses so I could read the drink menu. Would you believe he had a pair for me and a masculine-looking pair for my husband? As we were chatting at the Pacific Northwest-themed bar, we perused the menu and saw a variety of small plates that sounded wonderful! The following morning we were walking the city, and we were so enamored by the N 23rd Ave vibe we delayed lunch until we got to that area again. We dropped in the Fireside for some small plates, but they had a brunch menu instead. I was a bit disappointed that the normal menu was not available. We ordered off the brunch menu, my husband ordered the sheep milk egg bake and I ordered the open-faced hot beef with a side salad. We shared a cinnamon roll. The food was absolutely amazing. The music is cool, and the open air seating was completely enchanting. I highly recommend the Fireside.

My favorite restaurant in Portland

By ChadSD |

We tried lots of places in Portland but this one is a five star restaurant without the price. I had the beef rib which was just amazing. It was smoky and a little sweet with the best sauce I've ever had. This place has the most creative and homemade food we tried during our portland vacation. If I return to Portland this one will be on the list for sure.

Excellent late dinner

By margaret c |

Amazing food great for sharing. Really good vibe of the restaurant the whole look of the place is great. The food was different and amazing was something new for us to try. The staff helpful but did take forever for our meals to come but it was a Saturday night and we did just walk in. Good selection of beers.

Solid meal and atmosphere

By CarlGagnon |

Great atmosphere and eclectically interesting drinks….our Bees Knees and my Negroni were great and very tasty, as was the ribeye kabobs and the combo bread. Busy but good service as well.

Best Beef Ribs!

By Daphne P |

Consistently the best beef ribs in town! The owners are very nice and work the floor as well! Will make this a must-stop location each time I visit Portland

Yummy love n my tummy

By Mantislove |

Great place for real Portland flavor staying true to the fresh healthy taste of the northwest! Had a lovely breakfast home made pancakes n blackberry butter! Friendly service happy tummy!

Awful, just awful

By jgeffner |

Five of us had the unfortunate experience of eating lunch here this last weekend. Two ordered the bay shrimp salad and three of us ordered the lox board. The salad tasted like nothing I have ever tried. Mush would be the best word. If you used a microscope you could possibly find the avocado. I had the lox board-of the three of us-each plate was brought out differently-one had cucumbers, two did not, two had capers while one did not. One had such a small serving of "lox" that we asked the waitress to correct it-she was not very pleasant about it.I have never tasted smoked salmon that had absolutely no taste-especially in the Pacific Northwest. The "cream cheese" was thick as molasses and tasted like glue. Our daughter and her husband live in Portland and visit quite often and I can honestly say this was the worst meal we have ever had there. Love Andina and Xico and Pimbicha!

Great, cozy spot

By rosegrrl |

The owners of the Fireside have done a wonderful job of renovating the old (and much beloved) Music Millenium store here. It's now a lovely space with two fireplaces (natch) - one in the bar/lounge area and one further back in the restaurant itself. The ceilings are high - it's an airy, stylish space. When I went, not long after they opened, the place was packed. The staff were doing their best to keep up with orders but all seemed more than a little overwhelmed and confused. Likewise, the food didn't seem to have really hit its stride just yet. The buffalo chili was great though. I am hopeful that this will turn out to be a great addition to Trendy-Third. Though I didn't get there in time, I should think that it's a great place for early-evening drinks, before the after-work crowd gets there.

It filled the hole

By Motay2018 |

Went here on a Monday night - 8:30pm after picking up a family member from airport Everyone hungry Tired Looking for a good meal - terribly disappointed Son and I ordered burgers - sad Cheese had that congealed sweaty look Bun wrinkled and squashed - certain they came from Fred Meyer on Burnside Fries - limp and cold - could swear they were bought at McDonald’s - again on Burnside You know that McDonald’s French fries taste and smell right?!! Patty - can’t remember Tomatoes - pucky Glad didn’t get $3 bacon added to that... Any Burgerville in town serves a better burger Even the McDonald’s on Burnside has better burgers Go to Killer Burger on SW 3rd for a real burger My daughter and my brother had a pasta dish - no protein - way over priced Brother asked if we are here regularly Wife and I said this was our first time Wife had the mussels Edible but salty she said On any night I would have said something But there was company We ate the food...it filled the hole Never going there again Not sure what all the fuss is about Just walked past the place this evening walking dog Lots of people - friends and couples Maybe drinking instead? Certainly no families looking for a good meal...

Delicious food with a twist in a comfy locale

By OrebudJD |

We were visiting family and wanted a cozy place for high quality food on a rainy evening. Fireside hit it dead on. The restaurant has a warmly lit beautiful bar with fireplaces and dining areas both in front of and in the back of the restaurant. We were seated at a table next to a pit fireplace and coupled not have been cozier. The food was as good as the atmosphere - perhaps even better. As it was restaurant week, they had a special set menu ar $29 for three courses which we both ordered. The meal opened with a delicate creamy potato soup heavily flavored with truffles and herbs. It was over the top delicious. Next came a main consisting of a perfectly grilled hanger steak over roasted fingerling potatoes and Brussels sprouts with a savory blackberry sauce. Again a really excellent and tasty rendering. My expectation for the set desert was low but I was blown away. It consisted of toasted brioche with blue cheese ice cream, blue cheese crumbled, candied bacon lardons and a berry drizzle. Wow! Service was prompt and friendly despite a full, busy house and I appreciated that the wait staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes they were serving and took the time to answer questions and discuss the food. At least the night we were there, Fireside was at the top of its game and we will be back!

Great Atmosphere

By Phil G |

This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy an evening. The service was excellent. It was easy to see that people were enjoying their food.

Elk chili?! You betcha!

By Colleen S |

Try this new place on 23rd with my sister and her husband visiting in town. The place is nicely decorated with wild lodge theme. Lots of old wood with modern flair. The food was great! We had lunch there next to the fire place. Tried the elk chili, grill vegetable plate, and hunter burger. They were delicious! Elk stew tasted more like a very tender cooked beef. The chili is great! Don't even like chili myself but it was wonderful. Grill vegetable plate was nice, too. Hunter burger is a must try. Go! You would like it. Taking my husband next time.

Comfy, Welcoming Staff and Environment - Fantastic Braised Chicken

By Jaida W |

Everyone was super nice and welcoming. The Lemon Thyme Braised Chicken was to die for. Drinks were also fantastic. There’s a community table, bar and outside seating, and normal dining tables as well. Definitely recommend for any occasion!

Fell short.

By Ron M |

Our hotel recommended this as a great family restaurant. Would not recommend it as such myself. This is clearly somewhere more suited for couples on a date. Food is upper crust and too trendy for our liking. Steak was ok, salads were...unusual...no one finished their plates. Not saying the food was poor, just very trendy. Save your money if you are travelling with family of children......it could easily buy your two more meals your kids will eat anywhere else.

Fantastic

By Joumana K |

Stopped here for a late dinner on a Friday night and didn't need reservations as we were seated immediately. The cocktails containing ginger and orange are so delicious and the food is great as well. I only wish the menu had been larger.

Great gem in Portland.

By Jenn L |

Great diverse menu with a lot of comfort food choices. Drink menu is great, sat at table in front of fire and so nice. Waitstaff was inviting and so fun. Neighborhood is great to walk around and this was our last stop which was memorable.

Great lunch

By Roger Emerson |

Took a break from browsing the shops to have lunch. The Fireside was a fine choice. My wife had the Cobb Salad and I had the Fireside Skillet. The salad was large and had excellent meat. The skillet is a lighter fare that's very tasty. The place has sidewalk seating and window seating where the windows can be fully opened. A great option for people watching!

Happy Birthday!

By Travel2030 |

Thanks to all the great peeps at Fireside who made my husband's birthday fabuloso! We had great wine, beautiful halibut and wonderful conversation while sitting at a sidewalk table watching the world go by. Wonderful place.

Cozy Place on 23rd

By sskeeter |

We enjoyed a nice dinner here with friends. The small plates were great for sharing. Good selection of beer and drinks. The portions on the appetizers were a little small but they brought plenty of bread to go with the meats and cheeses. Great open space.
