I was in L.A. for business, last week. A business associate took me here to eat for lunch. I had the shrimp and fish. The shrimp was great, the fish was really good, the fries were thin, but still very tasty. The only place to eat is outside, which I enjoyed. It is not a fancy place, but everything seemed to be clean and in order. I can't wait to go back, next time I am in L.A. FYI they are only open from 10 am till 3 pm.

Eat-in or carryout fresh seafood to cook at home - you can't miss. We heard about this place from a local and come back every time we are in LA.

This is a fish market, with a restaurant attached, in the industrial part of downtown LA. You stand in line, place your order and take your food to the covered, outdoor patio to enjoy. People from all walks of life frequent the joint adding to its colorful atmosphere. They have a huge variety of seafood, which can be ordered either grilled or deep-fried. Most people seem to enjoy the fried shrimp and catfish fillets. Their clam chowder and cerviche are excellent starters. Side dishes depend on what you order, but can be French fries, coleslaw, or rice. The place is extremely busy (a very good sign), so be prepared to wait in line. The line moves at a decent pace and the staff works very hard to serve the food quickly. Hours are limited and the place caters mostly to the lunch crowd. The quality of the food is very good and the fish is absolutely the freshest to be found in downtown. A great place to try if you are tired of the typical downtown lunch scene and want to have a little mid-day adventure.

Very fresh seafood

On the week-end I went to Fisherman's Outlet for lunch and as always I was a satisfied customer. I ordered the charbroiled sampler and clam chowder. You don't leave without the feeling of fullness. It was enough food for me to bring home. This is one of my favorite places to eat sea food. If you have never been your missing a treat. I ordered the lobster tail to go and it is enough for 2-3 people to share.

Very good place. Good food. Our business associates enjoyed sea bass fillet and sampler plate Good French fries and chocolate cake

Great customer service, nice outside eating area, downtown Los Angeles. Parking on the side of the building. Received my order about 15 mins after ordering. Expected more food based on the price. The grilled and fried sampler was ok.

Visited this place several times with my wife, really enjoyed the food, really fresh , no frills kind of place.

This east LA place is a classic open air restaurant. They serve all types of fresh seafood. I'm not a lover of seafood but they do a good job at what they do. The seafood is fresh and prepared well. This place is extremely popular for lunch. I don't believe they are open for dinner. If you're looking to buy fresh seafood to cook at home they also have a full service seafood counter.

I like coming to this restaurant anytime I want enjoy fresh tasting seafood at a reasonable price. If you are cutting back on fried food there is the option to get your selection charbroiled. The picture is the Charbroiled Sampler (salmon, 4 scallops, 4 shrimp w/rice)

A variety of fish meals could be tried by asking for a sampler, etc. Everything cooked looked great as I sat out in the large crowd of people I could see what they had ordered.

Truthfully speaking the food was perfectly fried...however the reason for rating is the FACT that they are not serving what your paying for. I ordered the scallop and shrimp, clam chowder and garlic bread. And dam their scallops are deplorable. The imitation scallops is probably surimi. Its an awful joke and the pricing does not reflect that of an honest establishment. Truth this is an awful and dismal fraud of a dishonest business. SHAME ON YOU!

This place is always busy, its not fancy but the seafood is good, fresh and satisfying. I especially liked the prawns, grilled scallops served with rice or fries as well as their sauce.

They supply all of the finest hotels and restaurants in Los Angeles. If you are from out of town it would be best to take an uber. It is located downtown LA in the food district.

The food is so flavorful here. Sometimes you go to a seafood spot and the food is missing seasoning. But not here for sure. This is a great lunch spot, but very busy. If you don't have a flexible lunch be ABSOLUTELY sure to call in your order. They even have decent dessert here. And the best part they have great customer service. Everyone has a smile, and is polite. I have never been dissatisfied at Fisherman's Outlet

Did I say oh my god yet? I first started coming here about 8 years ago, but I moved further west and soon dreaded the drive from the westside to downtown. I started a new job, a new relationship and soon forgot about it all together. Fastforward that to last Saturday. I picked my girlfriend up in Echopark and started looking for a place to eat. Will it be El Cochinito or maybe Alegria on Sunset? Don't feel like fighting with all the Priuses for a parking spot. Spain (on Glendale Bl @ the 2fwy) sounds good. Just then, I get a message from the Gods that helps me decide. It seems that the Traffic Gods really don't want me to go North (sorry Spain) or West. I head East. Past the lonely criminal buildings, through Little Toyko (looking good) and into the factory district. Just as I think it's hopeless, I get a whiff of a crackhead sitting on the corner and I it comes to me. FISH... Fisherman's Outlet. Thank you lord for the signs..... I start getting excited as all the wonderful memories start coming back to me. I tell my girlfriend to look for the line of people coming out of the door. Soon enough we see just that. We find parking very quickly and take our place in line. I hear the happiness in peoples voices as they tell their friends what they're going to choose. How could you not be excited. The menu is vast. The place is BUSY and loud.. It's almost chaotic, but it works... We each got the Sampler plate which was $9.99 and included breaded shrimp, a lot of catfish and a crabcake on top of french fries. Served with coleslaw, tarter sauce and cocktail sauce. Wow. My girlfriend doesn't really like seafood and she almost finished her plate and want's to go back very soon. The place has it all. Anything you want (pretty much) and it's FRESH.... They also serve beer and wine. Lot's of tables, but they are always packed. You won't have to wait too long for a place to sit.

Love the shrimp salad, they just pile it on. Good price for the amount they give.

Man the shrimp is amazing. The butter sauce and the Cajun sauce are phenomenal. They need a subsidiary in New York City. Yeah it's that good. Definitely coming back and that was the first meal of the day. Much love. Dallas.

THE place for fried fish and fries

Went here on Friday 9/9 lunch time. This place was packed with customers eating & on line. As people walked by I changed my mind every time what I was going to order because everything looked delicious. The line moved fast and I was pleasantly surprised even though they moved through their customers quickly the staff was very polite and smiles on their faces. By the time I ordered it ended up being charbroiled giant shrimps & scallops. No regrets it was delicious OMG. I'm ready to drive or fly back just to try everything else. Great food...

I have been dining at Fishermans Outlet for years. Each time I go I am always satisfied with the food. The first impression you will get is that it looks like a crappy place with an outdoor covered eating area. The area surrounding the restaurant is also old and tired. But the food makes up for all of this. They have some of the best grilled fish. They also make an outstanding fishermans chowder that has everything in it. They also have a very nice shrimp salad that is enormous. I have never had anything on the menu that is bad. The only negative is that the restaurant closes at 3 pm. I stopped in one day at 2:30 pm and the staff seemed already in their closing routine. So I recommend you visit this place at the lunch hour or earlier.

Long lines at lunch hour well worth the time spent. Generous portions and prices have gone up over the years but still a bargain for the quality meal and experience here. Nice outdoor seating and amazing food. This place has atmosphere indeed and the crowds here validate just that. Just go!

Very, very mediocre. The glowing reviews must be from people who have no experienced good seafood, never mind great seafood. We had the red chowder, which was absolutely tasteless- full of baby tasteless shrimp and bland as bland could be after dousing it with hot sauce three times. I had the grilled swordfish which was a thin dry piece of overcooked swordfish with a lot of fries and a container of nondescript cole slaw. It was slathered in garlic butter to make it seem moist. It did mask the swordfish taste pretty well if that was the intention. We also. had the grilled jumbo shrimp and scallop plate which was ok but unremarkable. Very very expensive for what we got (and i don't complain about $400. for 2 for a sushi lunch) Very disappointed.

This Saturday we decided to eat seafood so I browsed on the internet and Yelp to see if there is a place in Los Angeles, we always drive to Redondo Beach for sea food (Capitan Kid's), yesterday I convinced my family to go to Fisherman's outlet because of the review's on Yelp, This place is in the worst area of LA first of all, they do have a Security guard at the premises, parking is limited but you can park on the street(Metered parking),we where disappointed with the food , this is a maybe an average restaurant and the rating are not accurate, we ordered Salmon, oyster, scallop and Shrimp, my wife did not have a happy face when we got our food, food was salty and greasy, prices are ok , you get what you pay for! What kind of seafood place doesn't sale Crab that's what we wanted to eat, anyways it's good to try so you know that rating are not always accurate, for us it was disappointing and my wife even posted on here Facebook to let her friends no about this place and some agreed, Today we are going to Redondo beach for real seafood,

I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and you truly get your money's worth. It is not at all conventional in that you stand in line and yell your order out to the cashier. Somehow, when you reach the front of the line, he can recite your order back to you. The food is excellent and you get generous portions. When I am in the mood, I get the grilled lobster tail. It is huge and with the garlic butter it is amazing. Depending on the day of the week and the time of day, expect to stand in line but I have never stood in line for over 10 minutes.

It was a surprise to meet this restaurant at LA downtown. You won't meet luxury but you will be satisfied when taste this qualified seafood at very good prices. My favorite, fried scalopes & shrimps. My family were very satisfied with the tilapia filets.

If I had been riding through this section of town and this place had not been recommended I would have never stopped. Thank goodness someone, who's opinion I respect, told me about it! Located in the warehouse district in downtown LA just past skid row, the neighborhood is somewhat intimidating, especially for an out of towner not familiar with the area, but it's completely safe and well worth the risk! I would have to say this is some of the best seafood I've ever had at, what I thought, were very reasonable prices. The lines are long, but they move quickly, so don't be discouraged. It's not fancy or upscale, but it's extraordinarily good and will definitely be on my go to list from now on when I'm in LA!

bar none hard to find Halibut? tough to cook correct sea bass? lobster tail, the whole cat fish? they have it all, no frills seating, Styrofoam dishes and cutlery ... who cares, the food is outstanding. fresh (the market is in front of it), cooked the way you want and they take credit cards. Is it good for a date? Sure, if you wanna feed your partner great tasting fish.

You need to go there early...between 11:30-12:30. Otherwise good luck waiting in line and finding a table. I love their whole catfish with rice, the garlic and garlic butter sauce!

My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for many years. I work downtown so I come here quite a lot. The fish is always fresh, our favorite is the Charbroiled Giant Shrimp and Scallops. Deliciousness!!!!!! Sheila N.

It is not a fancy place but everything seemed to be clean and in order and staff was very helpful when it came to choosing what I should get. Service was quick with my order too considering how many the people were waiting in line behind me. Love this place by far! Its my daily lunch choice.

2 fried sampler and 1 grilled sampler. the giant shrimp is the way to go. DONT MISS OUT. it doesn't look like much and its kind of confusing where to stand to get your order but the guys remember what goes where. the fries and slaw are ok. outdoor seating. i would eat there again. only open until early afternoon,

We had albacore which was very good and had the shrimp and scallop combo...a little light on the portions

I first visited Fisherman's Outlet in the 1980's. The quality of the seafood is the same, OUTSTANDING!! The restaurant has a very casual ambience, nothing fancy-there's no table service, and you eat outside on covered picnic benches. However, over the years I've seen people come from their offices in downtown L.A. in dressy business attire, to eat here for lunch--it's just that good. Some years ago my parents went to Fisherman's Outlet, I believe for the first time, after taking care of some business in downtown Los Angeles. I can remember my late father, who had visited some very fine restaurants in his time, telling me how good the food was at Fisherman's Outlet. And let me tell you, it still is!! My most recent visit was in May 2014, with a group of former co-workers. The Fisherman's Outlet did not disappoint, we had a great time. I had the charbroiled Giant Shrimp with rice and a butter sauce that was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! The flavor was so sweet and delicate it really reminded me of lobster. Fisherman's Outlet offers a wide menu, and the fish is very fresh. It's hard to go wrong with anything your order. Be sure to try the Cajun sauce, it is wonderful. If you've been to New Orleans, the flavorful Cajun sauce will definitely take you there!! Fisherman's Outlet has stood the test of time --highly recommended for a tasty seafood lunch!!

We had several of the offerings, but the charbroiled shrimp with rice were just great and the gumbo was terrific. Everyone enjoyed all we ordered, even those that had their food later since we got it to go for them. The sea bass was delicious. If you are on a budget, you can have the gumbo if you like it or the fried fish, but if you can spend a little more, go for the charbroiled items. The sauces are also very good and compliment the good very well. Will be back.

Fisherman’s Outlet in Downtown Los Angeles has great lobster tails. As a matter of fact everything they make is delicious and inexpensive. The approximate cook time is about 20 minutes for the lobster tail but it’s worth the wait. The price I paid that day was $38 for a lobster tail that weighed almost 1 pound. The price can change as it is listed as Market Price on the menu, just ask what the price is before ordering. We were celebrating my wife’s Birthday with a great yet inexpensive meal. I had the colossal grilled scallops which were also delicious and cost about $18. There is also a seafood market where you can buy most of what the restaurant prepares. Overall Fisherman’s Outlet is a great place for fresh delicious seafood without the hefty price.

after reading the reviews i thought this a not to be missed place. being from out of town i was craving seafood from Cali so we left the freeway and headed here. definitely a shady part of town but on a saturday it safe enough. In the end we had a good lunch but i felt expensive for fried food. we had between our two plates shrimp, crab cake, catfish, fish (i think cod) and by far the best was the catfish..... and i love shrimp but it was simply too fried to enjoy the shrimp itself. to dampen the mood even more, we got the two of the least expensive things on the menu and out bill was still $35. i now realize that to enjoy fresh seafood...it cant be fried.

"He" has been going to this place for years ... but just last week, I had my first experience. And it IS an experience ... but so worth it. Busy, busy, busy ... and the guys who take your order on the fish side of the restaurant make it even louder. Imagine 'cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger' as 'fish, fish, fish', but 100 times louder! It all adds to the fun and the ambience ... really. We opted for tuna salad from the quieter side .. and it was served up quickly with a smile. Three large scoops of tuna (make that fresh albacore!) salad on a bed of lettuce ... two tiny celery sticks ... dressing ... and some packaged bread sticks ... and that was it .... and it was wonderful!!!! Folks move quickly in and out ... we found a table with no problem. Now, for those of you who are looking at the address and are wondering .... yes, it is in the industrial part of town ... but it is very safe ... and even has security. Even has a parking lot! Try it ... you will like it ... and you, too, will want to return soon!

Oh My God. Who'd a thunk you could get delicious fresh fish on a Monday?? This place is nothing to look at, and has no table service, but absolutely fantastic fish! The prices are fantastic--fresh swordfish for $13.95. The chargrilled fish comes with three sauces: cajun, garlic butter and teriyaki. I had the mahi mahi with butter sauce, but next time I will ask for it with no sauce at all--it doesn't need it. The french fries were skinny and crunchy and wonderful. You can also get a number of different types of fried fish. I also had a red seafood chowder which was out of this world. Big fresh chunks of shrimp and scallops. The only thing that was mediocre was the cole slaw, which comes with the meal but is a tiny amount and nothing to worry about. You can also get rice or salad. Highly recommend! Oh, there is ONLY outdoor seating on picnic tables. And you bus your own table.

I really love fish. A simple, fresh, charbroiled filet can make me very happy. That's why I was so thrilled with Fisherman's Outlet. No frills, nothing buried in a sauce, no pretension. Just good, simply prepared fish. They have deep fried options as well. My husband and I ventured over on a Saturday afternoon. After reading reviews we had prepared ourselves for a wait - but the line was short and we breezed through. To be honest, I NEEDED a bit of a wait just so I could study the vast menu choices and make my decision. I ordered the black tiger shrimp charbroiled with the garlic butter. Quite good. My husband had the deep fried sampler with catfish strips, shrimp and a fat crab cake that I sampled and it was excellent. We're both looking forward to our next visit - which can't come soon enough for me!

Being more of a "turf" than "surf" guy, fish normally does NOT excite me...................... ESSSEPT for this place... Love the seafood here. ALL of it. Go with a group and share various dishes. Get the fried fish and shrimp combo. Oh sooooooo crispy and fresh. Select a grilled fish dish and ask for a side sauce (or 2). I prefer the cajun sauce. OR, go for the jumbo prawns. They are big. Want bigger, get the lobster. Good price for a sizable perfectly cooked ocean dweller. Get some chowder, I love the red, but the white is just as good. The shrimp cocktails are good. Add lemon to taste. For newbies, go from the market side, the line there is normally shorter. Admire how nobody writes anything down. All orders are shouted with everyone crammed behind the counter and over the grill area. Hours are limited. Lunch ONLY. Find a table in the shade and ENJOY.

Fisherman's Outlet Restsurant and Market is a reliable place to satisfy your seafood cravings just outside the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Don't let the name fool you as this is a not a sit down restaurant with servers. However this is a great lunch spot where you order at the counter and find a seat on the shaded patio. This pace has been around for a long time and is one of my favorite spots in LA. Don't be surprised by long lines during the lunch rush but the food comes out very fast! Also be prepared for what looks like chaos but somehow the workers keep it all together and know what they're doing! There's a small seafood market next to the lunch counter area of you live in the area and want to take some seafood home to prepare on your own.

Fisherman’s Outlet, whose motto is “Gourmet food at Affordable Prices” is an downtown LA landmark, which went into business in 1961. Adjacent to the wholesale food-refrigerated storage area of industrial downtown, it’s a fish market next to a counter-service restaurant with a roof-only covering for (mostly) concrete tables and chairs, and a parking lot in the back. The menu at the counter can be roughly divided into FRIED and CHARBOILED with chowder, seafood cocktails and a few salads tossed to round things out. There are daily specials, usually under $12. The choice of fish is impressive and, if grilled, is served with garlic butter, cajun or teriyaki sauce and french fries or rice and coleslaw. Seafood is limited to shrimp, scallops calamari and crab. Keeping things simple means everything is fresh-cooked quickly andthe place can do quite a volume. Customers can grab lunch, stop by the seafood market and pick up a (much larger) choice of fresh fish or seafood at much better prices than grocery chains and go home to cook for family and friends.

Freshest fish and seafood, great value, also the market has seafood by the pound. The food in the open Restaurante is also cooked when you ask for it, so freshest impossible.

Nice place for a quick stop to eat some yummy fish and shrimp! Place inside when u order is a bit confusing. But after u get your meal, it's great from there on!

There are so many choices!! I ended up ordering the Fisherman's Combo #2, Fish & Scallops. To meal also comes with fries, which weren't too great, but the scallops and fish had the perfect crunch to it. I'm definitely coming back here again. BTW, free parking in the back!
Lunchtime delight in a bad part of town
This is an insanely popular place to eat in the Skid Row part of town. I wouldn't recommend walking to this place later at night, but that doesn't matter because I am fairly sure they are only open for lunch. The line will probably take you at least 15-20 minutes to get through, and seating is mostly outside, but covered. The food is fantastic. I have had a couple of different plates from the fish and chips to the crab cakes and they are all delicious. The price range is around 10-16 dollars a plate if I remember correctly and the plates come with fries. I would recommend this to anybody who doesn't hate seafood.
