Contrived and overprived

By SonnyBalentineJr |

While the dining room has something to offer, neither the food nor the service can be recommended. The dishes are for the most part a contrivance, and while the service was attentive, mistakes and a rather pushy waiter did not make this place anything other than expensive and mediocre. Very expensive in fact for what was offered. This is not fine dining, just another example of a conceit at our expense. If you want a high end meal in Austin go to one of the many excellent places that can offer either truly innovative food, or someplace where the classics are well done without pretense.

Amazing food, service and history.

By Karimey B |

The Fixe was delicious, the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, and the service was impeccable. You are welcome amazing information about the history of the restaurant, and any question we asked in relation to the menu was answered in a mouthwatering way. Highly recommend the fried chicken, the pork chops, definitely the biscuits.deviled eggs were just OK but otherwise everything was perfect

OK food but overpriced

By KerrvilleKirk |

Fixe came highly touted, and the service was great, but the food, even though from a unique "southern gourmet" style menu, was disappointing for the price. Best thing was biscuit appetizer. Pot pie had over-cooked crab and just OK crust. Good try on the fried chicken, but skip Fixe for that and head to Max's around the corner for a tastier dish and ample portion.

Great Food with Southern Flair

By vaughanm1976 |

Great service and food. We had the halibut and lobster pot pie. Both were excellent. Do not miss the biscuits and deviled eggs as appetizers. Very good. Desserts were just average. After the fact we wished we had just ordered another round of biscuits with honey and butter for dessert.

Let me explain.

By Lucky-DSp |

The rating does not fully give credit to the food. They stand on their biscuits which are quite good. We have been to both this location and the one in Ft. Worth. Here we had breakfast. It could have been better. The breakfast potatoes had no seasoning. The breakfast chicken sandwich was good but rather small for the price when compared to another location not far from its spot. Service was very much lacking which hurt the rating. Have not had dinner at the Austin location but will return for that as the locations menus differ.

Great place in Austin to go for dinner!

By tlccorkmaster |

Great atmosphere, vibe, food, service. The biscuits are a great starter. The chicken was insane. Fried but boneless chicken breast. My wife had the pork chop and it was perfectly cooked. Jacob our waiter was great. Took time to recommend food and places to go in the area.

Business dinner

By parkerisland |

Well its pricey and has decent food ROI not the greatest. Food was fine. Wine was good. But not worth the money. Way to loud to carry on a real conversation.

Great for Happy Hour

By amys22 |

Very good happy hour at a great price. A lot of $8 food items during happy hour and discounts on wine and cocktails as well. The wine options are not your standard offerings at other happy hours. I recommend the crab and corn fritters and the chicken sandwich. They also have amazing biscuits.

Great Drinks & Biscuits!

By ErLee213 |

A friend of ours who lives locally told us about the biscuits here, we couldn't resist!! This was our first trip to Austin and we love to eat and drink at new places! I loved loved loved the atmosphere here immediately walking in! We sat at the bar and were greeted right away. Our drinks were amazing! They offer a great selection of liquor and specialty drinks. Our friend did nothing but rave about the biscuits here so that's exactly what we ordered as a snack before dinner reservations elsewhere. They are enough for a reason to come here! Overall the entire experience was great here, I highly recommend it.

Excellent Dining Experience

By pfitzpatrick |

This is the restaurant to go to in downtown Austin for a fine dining experience. We went after Christmas and enjoyed a beautiful setting, great bar service, and, of course, excellent food. I went with my adult daughter and her boyfriend who are both in the restaurant business - server, bartender, cook, etc. - and they analyzed the whole experience from service to kitchen activity. We all walked away impressed. It's worth the price. Enjoy!

Good food,service suspect

By catchyginger |

Hip vibe meets southern upscale cooking. The decor is nicely done - modern with rustic touches. We sat at the bar and service was shall we say interesting. We were informed that there was a vegan plate, but when we inquired what that was, nobody seemed to know. It varies daily. We had to ask two different servers about it. Eventually one went to ask the chef. Service is everything at a restaurant of this caliber, and this was very disappointing. We got the impression that they did not want to go ask or were annoyed by the request. The upside is that the vegan plate was nicely done. You have to ask for it. It is not on the menu. I had the lobster pot pie which was quite good. The pastry crust was nice and flaky. The fillings were old school comfort food. The dish is on the smaller side, so you will want something else. The biscuits are a must. Warm. So good.

A Simply Amazing experience

By Alan P |

Fixe takes dining to a place you have never been. From the authentic Southern decor blended with eclectic accents you are welcomed into a special environment that could pass for a close friends home. The food...is epic. The best biscuit on earth, no joke. The shrimp grits and fried chicken are just about there too. Try the blackened snapper for a fantastic piece of fish. If you love beef...the Tomahawk Ribeye could be the best you have ever eaten. If you are a cocktail fan...try the Old Fashion or the Honey Badger. A great, great wine list and some of the most unique and tasty desserts I have tried. The service is as good as it can get with extremely knowledgable wait staff and servers. Chef James Robert will take your taste buds to places yet explored, I guarantee it.

Mostly positive

By Vowo |

Pleasant atmosphere and setting. Food and drinks were good, although a little pricey. Note this is the kind of restaurant were you have to order sides with your mains, and hence guess which ones might work together. Would be nice if the chef took responsibility for that. Appetizer was small and dessert was huge.

Appetizers & Entrees are winners---dessert is the weakest link! Definitely worth a visit.

By Paul-Michael |

Our family of four enjoyed our first visit for dinner at Fixe. The biscuits and various appetizers are definitely worth ordering and sharing. They apparently have honey for the biscuits, but only if you ask---wish I would have known; next time! The portions are not particularly large and, if you're hungry, as we were, you could find yourself considering another order or two of appetizers to share. The mains were all nicely prepared and flavorful; neither fussy nor pretentious, just good. Service was friendly, although a bit uneven---seems the servers enjoy each other's company quite a bit, which is fine, but just don't forget about the guests. It took nearly half an hour to get an ice bucket for the champagne; after 3 requests, it arrived. Dessert is usually a high point for us, but these were rather disappointing---we sampled four and all were fairly bland and nondescript, with very little in the way of sweetness. Disappointing. Overall, we'd go again, but we would pass on dessert and enjoy that elsewhere.

Loved the food; great service

By JayChandler |

They start you off with homemade biscuits, so good you may begin to think you should just have more of those for dinner! But, moving on, the fried green tomatoes appetizer was good but not the best we've ever had. The fried chicken entree was Fabulous. The blackened red snapper and lobster and shrimp pot pie entrees were very good and the sides of grilled broccoli and shrimp and grits were very tasty. By that point we were so stuffed that I couldn't give full attention to the chocolate truffle cake or brioche donut desserts with vanilla bean custard but they did satisfy the sweet tooth!

A good downtown option for dinner in Austin

By David J |

We booked late, only 30 mins ahead, but were expected and greeted very well, and shown to our table straight away. The food choice was varied and our choices were well cooked and tasty. Prices were in the mid to fine dining range and similar to other options in Austin. Service was OK, our server seemed keen and interested when we arrived, but seemed to rather lose focus as the meal went on. For example, our starter plates were not cleared before the mains arrive and we had to actively chase to see the desert menu. Despite the service hiccups, we would recommend Fixe and a good dinner option.

Wow! This place is so good!!

By Nancy L |

Wow! This place is good! Very classy restaurant with outstanding service and amazing food. The biscuits are some of the best ever! The deviled eggs were soooooo good. The pimento cheese was creamy and delicious. I don’t like shrimp but the shrimp and grits could make me change my mind. Creamy grits. The hush puppies were so crunchy I could not quit eating them. One thing I noticed is all the hot food was served piping hot. It was noticeable. This is a top notch restaurant and I cannot wait to return.

New Take on Southern Food

By jacqueet |

We were intrigued by the idea that their food was Southern with a twist so tried it and were very pleased! The signature biscuits are divine, though pricey at $3 each! The grouper was perfect as was the lamb. Our server, Galilee, was delightful and very knowledgeable about the menu and Austin. The cocktails were great and they have a decent wine list.

Great Drinks

By jonathan m |

I was visiting Austin and on sixth Street. We were in the mood for a good cocktail and not beers. Well a bar redirected us to Fixe because they were not capable of doing mixed drinks. A great place. If you like whiskey drinks the honey badger was delicious. The menu looked great as well but I stayed at the bar. We did order the deviled eggs which were good and the biscuits were awesome. A must visit for good cocktails and food.

The best experience

By Lidiya W |

My mom and I randomly walked in there for Sunday brunch and left as total fans of that place, and more specifically our server Alexandria who was just excellent, and their biscuits. Those biscuits made me tear up from joy.... They are a must try. Freshly made and super delicious.

Great service and a fun menu

By Randall S |

We had a group of 12 in for a conference. Fixe had a great space for us and the service was top notch. The wine and cocktail list were both good. We started with the Fixe Biscuits (a table favorite), Shrimp crab toast (my favorite), Deviled Eggs, Grilled shrimp, and Ahi tuna mufflers. I had the blackened red snapper. It was delicious. Make sure to save a biscuit to dip in the nage. The flavors were so good. Multiple people have the dry aged ribeye and referred about it. For shared sides we tried all three grits, all we amazing. The side I would say not to pass on was the charred broccoli. The smoked oyster fried rice was delicious too. The desert that was a hit with the table was the cream-filled brioche doughnut.

Great atmosphere

By WendyB_Traveler |

No reservations on a Saturday night ut they got us right in and service was friendly and prompt. My pork shoulder and quail grits were delish. Don't skip the biscuits!

Phenomenal modern southern restaurant

By Christa |

Phenomenal modern southern restaurant. Best t-bone steak my husband says he has ever had. Wonderful shrimp/grits appetizer.

Good Friends, Good Food

By ClaudeS |

The food was excellent, on the pricey side but is worth an occasional dining out. We missed being able to check this place out the first time we discovered it because it was booked out for company Christmas party several weekends in December.

Overpriced and disappointing

By sailornipper |

Two of us shared the 32 oz $85 rib. Only 5 slices of over charred meat and huge rib made this the worst deal of the century! Management responded well and cancelled one of three checks and gave vouchers for future visit. Coming up from a week in San Antonio this felt expensive and not up to snuff. Staff and ambience good and they know how to make a proper Negroni so not all bad.

Intrusive and overpriced

By Mike K |

First, the reason for the 2 stars: 1) Ambiance was nice 2) Wine selection was decent Now, the bad: Myself and another person in my party decided to order the $52 steak off the menu. When we received it the manager immediately showed up holding a flashlight and asked us to cut in the middle of the steak to ensure that the level of doneness was correct (we ordered medium rare). He pulled out a flashlight and said that he felt the steaks were medium and that we needed to send them back for a replacement. We ensured him that we were fine with the steaks how they were, as we didn't want to wait another hour for our meal. He insisted that we should send them back, but we again stated that we didn't want to. In the end he comp'd us a glass of port wine, but the whole showing up with a flashlight and making me cut the middle of my steak open is weird. I wanted to eat it from one end to the other, now I'm left with a cold center. Ever heard of a thermometer? The appetizers were decent, but overpriced. I'd suggest trying somewhere else.

Pleasant Dining Experience

By Jason T |

A group of friends and I dined at Fixe while visiting Austin this past weekend. We had been at a casual happy hour on Friday afternoon, and we were looking for a relatively casual place that could take a party of 8. Knowing that it was already pretty late in the afternoon, several places were unable to accommodate us; however, Fixe was able to squeeze us in. The restaurant itself was elegant. I know I felt a little under-dressed in just a t-shirt and shorts, but the hostess reassured us that they do not carry a strict dress code. Once seated, we looked over a wine menu that presented many options and decided on a couple bottles for the table, along with several appetizers. The biscuits were fantastic; something that everyone should try at least once. The pickled veggies were pretty good too. I chose the duck as my entree. Overall it was good, but I felt as though it may have been a little overcooked. A couple of the bites I had were slightly tough, but nothing that would have caused me to send the dish back. Overall, we had a great experience. Our server was excellent; well seasoned and well versed with the menu. The management and front of house staff were also very polite and accommodating. I'd definitely return to Fixe again when in Austin.

Biscuits

By JB |

Delicious from the start! Dark ambience. Enjoyed the crispy potato beignets as an appetizer - wonderful! The biscuits (3 to an order) are fresh made to order. Biscuits came out hot and flaky with great nooks and crannies as the butter melted within. Lobster & Crawfish PotPie is rich and decadent - full of seafood! Beware, the "recommended" hot sause is an extra charge - we were not told that. Great experience, however!

Southern cooking at its finest

By Taylor B |

This is the kind of restaurant you'd expect to find in Charleston or Savannah, southern cooking at its best, fried chicken and grits and biscuits and red fish and Gulf shrimp and crawfish and Louisiana catfish and pimento cheese and sweet potato pie. Located at 500 West 5th Street in Austin, Texas, south of downtown, in the Warehouse and Market Districts, in the IBC Bank Plaza, Fixe Southern House isn an upscale southern eatery for grits, biscuits and creative seafood and steak dishes in chic dining rooms. Fixe Southern House, which also has a location in Fort Worth, opened in 2014 to rave reviews. It continues to be a popular option for hungry folks who aren't addicted to Texas-style barbecue. Open from 4 to 9 Monday through Thursday, 4 to 10 on Friday, 10 to 10 on Saturday and 10 to 9 on Sunday, this is what is known as a delicious change of pace. My wife and I started with deviled eggs, Fixe biscuits with whipped Steen's butter, house-made fruit preserves and organic Texas honey, pimento cheese on toasted focaccia and a Gulf Shrimp salad with Gulf shrimp, pickled onion, green apple, radish, marcona almonds and remoulade. For her entree, my wife chose the house specialty, southern fried chicken, with buttermilk, kale, green apple and spicy honey with sauteed broccoli and Anson Mills Antebellum grits. I opted for sugar and orange cured salmon with buttered blue crab and leeks, green peas, salt and pepper French fries and BBQ beans with smoked sausage. For dessert, we shared sticky toffee cake with a truly one-of-a-kind creation, red beans and rice with a caramelized chocolate bar. I never heard of it before but it was a "try it, you'll like it" recommendation. And I did.

Excellent meal

By lucycan |

First time here. 3 of us. Drinks were good. Menu was smaller and we tried probably 50% of the items. They were all very good. Some standouts were the Redfish which was incredible, the biscuits, and the deviled eggs. Service was great. Place was at capacity on a Monday night. Very fairly priced.

Perfection

By Elephantastic |

I called ahead with questions and spoke to the owner directly (Bryan, I believe), who was friendly and informative. At dinner, our server Kevin was incredibly well informed about food allergies and took my three allergies in stride. He was confident the chef knew how to handle my food, which put me at ease. All of the food was incredible. We had ages steaks (juicy and flavorful), charred broccoli, and shrimp & tuna for appetizers. My husband tried one of their famous biscuits and loved it. The atmosphere was upscale old world Europe meets Texas countryside. We sat under a beautiful, lighted indoor pergola. The kitchen was open so we could see the chef and staff at work. I would come here again in a heartbeat for a special lunch or romantic dinner.

Wonderful

By CJC |

Great food. New Years Eve yet the service and food were both excellent. Would definitely go again, despite all the great restaurants in Austin

Happy hour

By KKCurrin |

Very relaxing atmosphere in a great location. Excellent small plates menu at a great price for very quality eats! The biscuits are decadent... and you can order the number you like- made to order-wonderful! Definitely will return for full menu!

Golf group

By George Randall H |

We do an annual golf trip, and this restaurant served as our first group meal in Austin after our initial round. We reserved a private room and the staff could not have been more accommodating. I am sure we were rather loud, so the private room setting was a good call. Great service and some good food made for a very enjoyable evening.

Very Pleasant Southern Food

By m343 |

If you are looking for a very nice room and an alternative to BBQ when in Austin, Fixe is a great choice. Excellent service by a team that understands hospitality and attention to detail. A much more professional feel than many restaurants in Austin. Everyone raves about the biscuits for good reason--they're yummy. Lots of great dishes--pot pie, halibut etc. Good place to celebrate a birthday, graduation, or anniversary.

Great food and atmosphere

By Kim G |

The food is incredible! Eat the biscuits, they are worth the calories. The tuna tartare and red snapper was exquisite and tasted amazing. Our group joked that we could survive on wine and biscuits!

Great food, great service, nice atmosphere

By kshea052016 |

The food was delicious. We had the biscuits for an appetizer and they are as good as grandma's. The four of us shared the 32 oz ribeye and the pork roast. My favorite was the pork, it was fork tender and perfectly seasoned. The green beans with the steak were also perfection, tender crisp with this buttery pecan seasoning. The cocktail selection was extensive as was the wine list. The have a great selection of Bourbons. We had a port for dessert and it was the best I've had in years.

Southern Sunday Brunch

By rslot |

Ambiance and service was first class during our first visit. Our server recommended the biscuits with optional gravy and optional jam, honey and spreadable spicy sausage. All these extras were worth it - they all had wide ranging flavors that went well with the light and fluffy biscuits. Plum and pomegranate mimosas were amazing. Our server recommended the shrimp and grits - excellent! We also added the family style breakfast potatoes and soft belly bacon. It’s a must. Bring a big appetite because we couldn’t eat all of this. It was a very special experience.

Great menu and food. Only shortfall was dessert.

By Nance T |

The menu was very good and the food was great. Service was quick but a little too chatty. Nice guy though. When it was time to order dessert we ordered a peach cobbler as all of the peaches we had down there were awesome. When it came it was a blueberry cobbler with a FEW VERY thin slices of peach. It was runny and thin but the biscuit crust was very good. Oh and the space was great. There was lots of room between tables but the chairs were too big for the space under the table so your legs got pinched trying to get seated. Overall we would go there again.

Come Hungry

By Winston C |

My wife and I had dinner here at the recommendation of a friend. Make reservations as the place gets very busy Friday night. You absolutely must have the biscuits. You can enjoy the biscuits with plain old butter or too with their assorted condiments like Jelly/honey. I opted for their fried chicken and kale salad and my wife went for the smaller portion (happy hour) fried catfish. This came with hush puppies and fries. Both dishes were very good and served within a reasonable time. afterwards we experimented with their dessert offering of red beans and rice (trust them)! Definitely have to try it. My only suggestion is that you don’t eat each item separately; mix them together to truly experience their complimentary qualities. The evening was made even more enjoyable with Meghan taking care of us. We now have another favorite place in Austin.

Nothing to fix here!

By henriettam9 |

We have been here more than three times, its always a complete hit! The atmosphere grabs you as soon as you walk in the door, the staff are attentive and always give us the best recommendations actually. The brioche doughnut dessert and the biscuits are a cant miss.

Service is OFF THE CHARTS AMAZING!

By JojoInATX |

My boyfriend made a surprise reservation for our two year anniversary through Open Table. Typically, any time we leave "Special Notes" in Open Table reservations they go completely unnoticed. So much so I had given up on ever being celebrated or recognized for any special occasion. However, this was not the case at Fixe. Our server brought us celebratory champagne while we waited for our first round of drinks. He also sent out a complimentary appetizer for us to try while we waited for our entrees. If that wasn't enough, the food and atmosphere was amazing. Of course, the biscuits lived up to the hype. The aspect that really sold me was the service. I've worked in hospitality a long time and I can recognize and truly appreciate top notch, personalized service. Kyle embodied that. He made great recommendations and had an awesome sense of humor. At the end of our meal he comped a bottle of their house-made hot sauce for us to take home since I was absolutely raving about it. I'm not a huge fan of spice but it was mild enough for me to enjoy and was soooooo good. Lastly, he presented us with a hand-written card for our anniversary signed by all the staff. I was so touched. We will definitely return in the future. Thank you also to the manager, Justin, for his kind words and generosity.

An excellent evening

By Jbrickey |

My wife and I were both very impressed. This was our first visit but not our last for sure. We started with scratch southern biscuits with local butter and three spreads: local honey, apple butter and a sausage spread. They were all excellent and the biscuits were awesome. For entrees we had blackened snapper in a wonderful broth and a pork shoulder. Both were full of flavor and done perfectly. We had two sides: charred broccoli with blue cheese and the Carnivore grits with quail. Wow on both! The drinks were very nice as well and they have an excellent bar setup. Atmosphere: 4* would be 5 but I felt the music was misplaced and it was rather loud but not terrible Food: 5* Service: 4.5* when they got busy there was a bit of delay but not bad at all. Price: $$$ for all of the above, 3 drinks and tip $168

Great meal and great food

By Nicole1990 |

I booked this meal for a group who were traveling to Austin for the weekend. They thoroughly enjoyed there food and said the atmosphere was great. The team were even able to organise a birthday cake for one of the guests the day before the meal was due. Thank you again for a fantastic service!

Good Southern Food

By Justin P |

I had dinner at Fixe with colleagues from work one evening while visiting Austin. Service was excellent, very friendly and took good care of us. The warm biscuits as an appetizer were fantastic. I had the fried chicken, which was very good. They also have a good selection of drinks, especially whiskeys. Very nice place, a bit pricey but nice for special occasions or someone else is paying.

Very Good Service and Food

By David B |

We ate at Fixe on November 8 and it was outstanding. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and polite, and the food was unbelievable, especially the lobster and crawfish pot pie and the redfish entrée. My nephew's pork chop was huge and cooked perfectly. There was an issue with a delay in getting a cocktail to a member of our party and not only did they comp that drink and the next round, they gave us a nominal gift card to use for a future visit. Excellent service recovery!

Beware GFreaks

By G D |

This is a very limited gluten free restaurant. They will be accommodating but make all the good stuff basic.

Home cooked made to order Southern Faire

By MRF63 |

The food was fantastic. Their biscuits, heaven, crunchy bottom, fluffy center, and oh so buttery. Cody, our server was excellent and recommended several dishes, which we ordered and shared-deviled eggs, fried fish, fried chicken, pimiento cheese among some. Everything was delicious. I let Cody pick his favorite dessert for us, the Texas Pecan pie ala mode. Great atmosphere, for business, date night and family. Parking was easy for downtown Austin. Highly recommend and ask for Cody.

Consistently good food

By adalbert3 |

This was my third trip to this restaurant, and each time I have had good as well as interesting food. Yes, you must have the Biscuits with Preserves and the Deviled Eggs, but there are also many other quality choices. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Ahi Tuna Muffaletta and my Blackened Snapper was quite unique (as well as tasty)--not at all your traditional blackened seasoning. The wine list is interesting, and our server Mary was not only quite helpful with the menu but also upbeat and engaging.

Girls night

By Amber C |

Fixe was amazing ! Kyle was phenomenal ! We had the biscuits and they were honestly the best I’ve ever had. The bacon Crab dip with house made hot sauce was amazing ! And the Lobster Pot Pie was out of this world I was very impressed and will definetly be back ! Covid precautions that were in place made us feel completely comfortable

Get your "FIXE"! It's addictive!

By ADM_TX |

Seriously, the absolute best biscuits, EVER. Second visit to Fixe and it did not disappoint--perfect since I was hosting a business associate I wanted to impress. We tried several appetizers, but the biscuits were the clincher! Also enjoyed the Pear cocktail and our server (Tammy) was FANTASTIC!! Definite win!

We were sent here for the biscuits!

By 858sharlae |

And the biscuits did not disappoint! They were warm with sweet cream butter to spread on them. The decor is really cozy -- like being in your own dining room. Fixe has a bit of a funky vibe as well. Our server, Dorinda, was very friendly and the service was quick. We shared a few plates -- Jack's salad, fried chicken, and herbivore grits. The salad was excellent with so many different delicious flavors. The chicken was also very tasty. The grits were tasty, but not something that anyone at the table raved about (but we're not a group highly accustomed to grits or their texture). For dessert, we shared the chocolate truffle cake and ate it all up. So that in itself tells you it was good. The manager came out to speak with our table once our server told him that one of my girlfriends was from San Diego (which he is originally from). He was a very nice down to earth guy.

Over confidence may be causing some service and quality slippage

By tigreyez |

A visit last year was hands-down one of the very best I've ever had in Austin. This time, the service was dilatory, and the noise so cacophonous we almost turned and fled. But once the bar crowd had moved on - the restaurant noise definitely became more bearable and most of the food continues to Delight. The biscuits are delicious, the trout dip unusual and very fresh, and my companion enjoyed the beef tartare with tiny pancakes. The fried chicken continues to be a highlight and the lamb loin just killed it! However, the decision to select the lobster pot pie was a huge mistake. For the caliber of restaurant, it lacked the flavor one anticipates and instead was heavy, gelatinous, and filled with over cooked rubbery seafood. It should be avoided, until improved. Wine list is nicely varied and every bar cocktail was exceptional. The desserts on the other hand left much to be desired. The new offerings do not have the sensory complexity, ingenuity or originalIty presented when Fixe first opened. No one cares about carrot cake or a lump of chocolate ganache on a plate. All in all - it is a reliable experience and still a safe choice.

Good to great food. Very good decor and service.

By Jay F |

Went to Fixe after an afternoon performance for an early dinner. Shared the biscuits, deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, and green bean salad. The appetizers and chicken are familiar, but elevated in concept and style. At $8 for 3 biscuits they are pricey, but pretty special. The adornments of honey, jelly, and such are $.50 to $1.50 EACH. The deviled eggs are very good. The hot sauce is extra. The green tomatoes were good but less successful. The chicken is very well done and tasty but not, to me, particularly memorable. The green bean salad was average. Wines are overpriced to the point we chose to drink beer. We really liked the look and feel of the restaurant. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back and probably focus on the appetizers and drink beer again. And will save room for dessert - the dessert list is very appealing.

I only liked the tea =(

By KeyConcierge |

It is a cute place but the dining room is so noisy we were not able to hold a conversation. The food was disappointing. The Beets and Pescavore were good, the Sweet Tea Pickles were just ok and the Red Snapper was dry. Nothing exciting, no personality to any of the dishes I tried. When picking up our dishes, the service staff would let forks and knives drip on the floor... I had never experienced that.

Good but overpriced

By Kenda L |

This was our special dinner of our weekend away. It was very nice, fun atmosphere. But the menu wasn't my favorite and the food is quite overpriced. We enjoyed ourselves and it took us to a different part of town, which was fun, but I wouldn't go out of your way to try this one.

Birthday Dinner Celebration

By tracytaustx |

It was a last minute recommendation for my birthday dinner. We had 2 couples, no kiddos, and it was OUTSTANDING!!! The food was great, the service was even better!! You must start with the biscuts and then try their deviled eggs for an appetizer. I had their pork chop entree and it was great.. don't forget the grits with shimp.... SO GOOD!! Great dining experience and we will be back!!

God food and a little bit of fine southern to fusion.

By suwdawg |

We had a good experience here as well. A little more fine dining but beautiful space and nice area of town a little away from the party district. Our service was great. Can't remember the servers name but she opening your store in Arlington. She is a great choice and will do great if anything like our service. We had the Halibut which was good however the biscuits are some of the finest we have had. Get those if you are a biscuit fan. Recommend for those looking for this style of food.

Displeased. $48 for a dry over cooked steak?

By DrMikeinNJ |

Went here last week with colleagues for a business dinner. Atmosphere is nice. Had drinks and appetizers which were good. Biscuits amazing. Deviled eggs very good, fried catfish good. Asked the waiter about steak options and was sold on the $48 ribeye. Two if us ordered medium rare, and when it came, both of us felt it 1) didn’t taste like ribeye (was thinly cut), and 2) was over-cooked with a slight pink center. Should be red center. Waiter asked if everything was okay and we mentioned that our steaks did not taste tender and fatty like a typical ribeye and was over-cooked (we joked that perhaps they served us the Strip instead.). Nobody seemed to care. Even manager who came by. Weird. Won’t be back. Would recommend you try elsewhere

5 star biscuits

By rhpatt29 |

Overall the food was good but not that special. Appetizers- Deviled eggs, smoked trout dip, little gem salad were just okay. Entrees- blackened redfish, grouper and grits were good not great. The fried chicken was heavily battered and overcooked. Not juicy at all. The pork chop was the best of all entrees. Sides - sweet potatoes were okay as was the broccoli but not special. Desserts- the chocolate truffle cake with salted pretzel ice cream was good. The atmosphere was excellent and cool. Service was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wine list was excellent. Overall a decent meal with great wine. Not bad but not great food. I wanted it to be really good but my expectations were too high.

Great brunch, looking forward to trying dinner.

By Tad A |

We were visiting Austin for a long weekend and went here for brunch on Sunday. Of the half dozen meals we had at various highly rated restaurants on that trip, this one is the one that stood out as the best. We had the biscuits, cinnamon rolls, pimento dip, and deviled eggs to start. We then ordered various breakfast biscuit sandwiches, salads, French fries, and the fried chicken sandwich. All were excellent the the pricing was very reasonable. Atmosphere is nice with an open space and clean comfortable decor. Will definitely go back and try for dinner.

Fixe is a great food experience. Our food bordered on perfection. No need to rave about the biscuits—they amazingly live up to the hype. The pork chop with collards was one of the finest entrees I’ve ever eaten. Bt Fixe is not by any means a great DINING experience. We felt extremely rushed. My wife and I were looking for a relaxing dinner but they were pushing to speed us out as rapidly as possible. Though we bought a bottle of wine and appetizer, our waiter brought our dinner check 45 minutes after we sat down. Twice I had to prevent a wait staff from taking a bread plate with half a biscuit, even though I was still working on the chop. Fixe takes efficiency too far. I understand the economics, but take a breath (or at least let us take one) while we enjoy the great food. The wine list is also one of the more overpriced in Austin.

Gorgeous

By TheKyleBailey |

I gave it five stars for the ambience along. To be fair, I did not eat here, but came here for coffee after dinner add another place. A friend told us about it and we all walk down several blocks from another place in Austin. Just walking in, it's an outstanding visual experience. The decor is outstanding. The old desk at the front, the solid slice of a tree trunk for another countertop just at the front is just beautiful. I really enjoyed the visual experience here and recommend it.

Southern charm

By laurenaalexander |

I've experienced great southern hospitality every time I have visited Fixe. In addition to being kind, the Fixe team is also quite accommodating. I have visited Fixe for several business dinners and multiple social outings, and this meat-heavy restaurant has always been willing to accommodate my vegetarian modifications. I give 4 stars, rather than 5, only because I do feel like the menu could benefit from even a few healthier options.

Put Fixe on Top of Your Austin Fine Dining List

By MattKeegan |

I was in Austin for a client-hosted event, with Fixe chosen as the restaurant for our second and final night in town. Our party consisted of nearly 30 people, but the restaurant was waiting for us with multiple tables reserved in two nearby rooms. The restaurant says that it serves “progressive southern food” — I’m not certain what that means, but I can tell you the Fixe Biscuits are amazing! If you’re on a low-carb diet, plan to cheat by slowly consuming the large, buttery biscuit presented to start things off. Not especially starchy or flaky, but I have to say the biscuit was the best one I ever ate. Hot, delicious and filling — it will amaze you. Along with the salad, I soon realized I was already packing it in — and this before our orders were taken. As for the main course, our party kept things simple by limiting our choices to the fried chicken, duck breast, and a dry aged ribeye. One member of our party wanted vegetarian, so the order taker accommodated his request by sharing vegetarian and vegan examples, made to order. The ribeye was cooked to my well-done expectations and was juicy, tasty, with very little fat, and quite filling. Along with charred green beans and caramelized onion jus, I had the ideal plate. Unfortunately, I had to stop with a few bites left — I was too full to continue. Somehow, I found enough room later that evening to share a chocolate truffle cake and a carrot cake before we left. Both served as a nice finish on the evening which also included a selection of fine wines. I wouldn’t hesitate returning to Fixe with my wife. What you should know is that it is easy to go through $200 or more for two people — and that’s before tipping.

Nice Place

We had a small private room off to the side. Our waitress Julie was great. The food was very good. Julie made recommendations and all were spot on. Service was timely and pricing was what we'd expect from a nice place.

The Only 5 Star I Have Given A Restaurant!

By JULIE M |

We had the most amazing brunch at Fixe! The BEST service we have EVER had at any restaurant! Amazing food (I had the Heirloom Tomatoes with Feta, I'm still in heaven over that!), wine list is the tops, beers, and the bartenders are genius! The ice creams are beyond anything you have experienced! We actually went back for Happy Hours the next day! The Hush Puppies are the BEST I have ever had, the Sweet Tea Pickles (actually vegetables and fruits) were stand alone delicious! If you really want to go to heaven get the biscuits! My husband is a biscuits and gravy kinda brunch (or any meal) guy, so he ordered the biscuits, the Boudin Gravy and bacon and proceeded to make his hot mess biscuits 'n gravy, which was AMAZING! Everyone was fun, funny, delightful and happy to cater to anything they could to make sure our experience was nothing but perfection! I cannot wait to go back tomorrow for dinner again!

Marvelous, unique eatery!

By glennroid |

Downtown Austin is a little too congested and parking is such a pain. However this city really has some great dining choices We had a couple of family birthdays this month. Drove by Fixe a few weeks ago and decided to try it yesterday. We elected an early Sunday dinner, which worked out great for the 3 parties that met from different places. Drinks at a comfortable table at the bar were excellent and fun with great service. We moved into our dinner table. It's obvious that great pains have been taken with every aspect of this very warm and welcoming establishment. Although I prefer a more brightly lit atmosphere, this wasn't too dark either. Our waitress, Dorinda, was amazing. Not only did she know everything about all the choices, she was warm, funny and just a pleasure, while not being overbearing. We ordered a bunch of starters and shared everything. Biscuits, steak tartar w/ fried oysters, beef tendon cracklings, pickled beets, smoked trout dip and deviled eggs. Everyone agreed every single item was unusual and exceptionally tasty. For main dishes we also shared fried chicken and the lobster crawfish pot pie. The chicken was incredible too. Boned thigh-meat that somehow tasted like white meat. The sweetish sauce had just enough spice to be perfect. The Pot pie was also just about perfect too. We split the chocolate cake and cobbler desserts around the table as well. All in all, everyone agreed this was one of the most memorable meals we've had in quite some time. We hear that they're opening another restaurant in Ft. Worth. Lucky people up there will get a chance to have what is an unusual but terrific type of cuisine. UPDATE: On a second visit the food and service AGAIN exceeded our expectations! Our marvelous wait person, Angie, showed us that 5-star dining is more than just the food. It's the whole experience! Her attention to detail, pleasant professional demeanor and cheerful attitude contributed a lot to the dinner. The fact that she wasn't TOO friendly, which can sometimes be a little bothersome, was a sign of how great Fixe is. This is a very impressive establishment that is absolutely worth a visit!

Delicious- Modern- Southern

By Britt M. |

Growing up with southern grandparents, it takes a lot to impress me with southern cuisine. This place has it! I loved the modern twist on southern classics such as fried chicken and crawdad/ crayfish pot pie. The biscuits were like my grandma used to make and just melted in your mouth. Everything we had was phenomenal. Definitely a place to check out!

Sexy Steakhouse in Central Downtown Austin

By Gabrielle F |

I recently went to Fixe for a company holiday dinner. I was instantly impressed by the elegant, darkly lit interior with gleaming wood and brass finishes – very sexy! The cocktails were lovely (and half price before 6pm btw) as we waited to be seated. The staff was extremely kind and generous, obviously enjoying their jobs and excited to be there, which is always refreshing. The food was incredible. We started with the shrimp and grits, deviled ham deviled eggs (to die for!), and their homemade biscuits. I've never been big on biscuits, but these are the fluffiest, softest, butteriest biscuits I've ever had – seriously have been ruined for any other biscuit I might have in the future elsewhere. And served with a trio of blueberry jam, honey, and whipped butter. I would have been happy just with the appetizers alone. Then came the main meal. I got the Vegetarian. I must admit after the spectacular appies I was pretty disappointed – it was just some sauteed veggies with a scoop of faro. Very plain, no seasoning. I could have done better at home. However the sides of broccolini with an silken fondue, steaks the size of your head, and charred brussel sprouts that were divine made up for it. Lastly, when we thought we simply could not eat another bite, suddenly appeared a trio of desserts plucked straight out of a culinary magazine. Pecan pie at lease 2 inches deep, blackberry cobbler, and a decadent chocolate cupcake with caramel sauce, all three of which served with homemade vanilla ice cream cannells. if you're looking to splurge on a date night or a celebratory night, I highly recommend Fixe. Or, take advantage of their happy hour for a nosh and a cocktail in the early evening.

I would give this restaurant a 3 for food and a 5 for service/atmosphere. We dined here last night and my husband ordered the Lobster Pot Pie. It had a Blue Cheese sauce which overpowered the lobster plus the menu did not say that it had Blue Cheese in it. I ordered the steak and for the price it was very average. The biscuits were excellent as were the salad, and broccoli. The fried rice was underwhelming. Our service was perfect and they brought us a complimentary glass of champagne as well as a side salad. Overall I would give it a 4.

Nailed it for our group of 40!

By Marcia K B |

I planned a business meeting for a group of 40. Spectacular experience at Fixe. Food:We preselected three options for the menu (ribeye, chicken or grouper). Each one was amazing. Next day, attendees said they dreamed about the food it was so good. The food was delivered to each diner nearly simultaneously, so no one was left sitting as others ate. Wait staff: Exceptional. Each table was so well attended, I never saw an empty water glass! The restaurant has private rooms, but my recollection is that our group was too big to accommodate . They seated us in our own area of the restaurant. However, it is an open floor plan and noise is an issue. Our dinner was purely social, so this was not an impediment for us. I would recommend you book early if you need a more segregated space. Highly recommend.

Identify Crisis

By houstontraveler1955 |

The service is excellent. The ambiance is pleasant and comfortable. The wine list is adequate, although it is over priced and tends a little to pedestrian. However, the wine was served at the correct temperature, which a point on which a lot of restaurants miss the boat. The cuisine is a sophisticated Southern, with the website and a couple of menu items suggesting possible Cajun roots. The food attempts to be creative yet familiar with subtle flavors. Unfortunately, the tastes ended up timid and not particularly compelling for a repeat visit. Nonetheless, the biscuit appetizers are good.

Southern food with a flair

By AdgieLB |

The food is great, biscuits are addicting (I definitely needed more than one) and the ambiance is perfect for every adult occasion. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and helpful if you want to make some minor tweaks. I will definitely go there again, but this time not for work!!

Knock your socks off dinner!

By Hazen810 |

From the fantastic biscuits, roasted shrimp with grits and aioli sauce to the marrow crusted red snapper - holy cow TX comfort food. Not to mention great ambience and service. Top shelf all around. Not to be missed!

Get the biscuits!

By 4alexnyc |

A legit southern style restaurant with AMAZING biscuits - it should be a mandatory starter. The lobster and crawfish pot pie was also really good and had nice chunky bits in it. They also have a good selection of boutique beers. Great meal and we'll be back

Ok restaurant!

By rhall8202 |

This restaurant was highly recommended to us. Having said that the five of us at our table were disappointed considering. The service was ok. I had the lobster/crawfish pot pie and it was really not that good. My wife had the fried chicken and it was not good. Two in our party had the blackened red snapper and one had the duck. They all said they enjoyed but nothing to rave about. Our waiter was ok but seemed disinterested.

OMG BISCUITS

By Judy D |

They really do go with anything.. also had the tartare (not so great) but the fried oysters on top were great. The fried chicken was excellent with a side of sweet potatoes. Yum. The deviled eggs felt they had been prepared a while ago. Saturday evening and it was packed by 6:30. Nice atmosphere.

Anniversary dinner

By vivi411 |

My hubby and I went to Fixe for our visit to Austin for our anniversary based on the reviews. The food was tasty for sure but the ambiance was also great. The homemade biscuits was amazing. I had the lobster and crawfish pot pie- was it worth $30? It was good but not outstanding. My husband had the fried chicken and he thought it was just okay. The food is supposed to be a southern house with Louisiana roots. With that said we expected food with more spice and kicked up a notch. It was rather bland. We also tried the cobbler- my husband enjoyed it, however, there was some spice used that did not agree with my palate. Our meal was about $90 for the two of us. It was nice for a date night but if we are spending a hundred dollars on a meal I would like it to be amazing.

Overpriced, disappointing food

By Josh T |

Overpriced, disappointing food. Great decor and friendly service, but $14 cocktails and $20-50 entrees are not worth it. I had the fried chicken, which should be excellent at a Southern restaurant. However, the meat itself was flavorless, breading was just crisp sugar. And served with glorified coleslaw (sides are an extra charge). The fried chicken at Gus’s is way better and way less expensive. And the $14 cocktail was nothing special either. There are many way better options in town.

Amazing Service and Food

By Janna C |

We celebrated our anniversary at Fixe and it did not disappoint! Have no clue where to start…… but the biscuits are hot, tasty and to die for! We had several appetizers and drinks. Top Notch! However, the service we received from Jessye was amazing. She knew it was our anniversary and went above and beyond. We will for sure return soon!

Very beautiful space with

By tamjan |

Very beautiful space with elegant light fixings and dark wood. Loved the bar- try the chocolate martini, sooo good! Served with coffee beans and crushed chocolate. The deviled eggs were absolutely to die for and the warm bacon and crab dip with saltines was heavenly!

Return Trip

By barretta |

A great and much improved experience. In no small part due to Gideon, our server. Perhaps the best biscuits anywhere as a first course to soak up the pre-prandial drinks. Pork shoulder, halibut, little gem salad, all were excellent in their own right. As were the Sazarac and Manhattan.

Overpriced and Uninspiring

By TexasLinda2014 |

We got the $48 rib-eye was only average, and the lobster pot-pie, which was mostly dough, sauce and mushrooms with hardly any seafood in it. It was VERY noisy and difficult to carry a conversation, even with the person next to me. Dessert choices were abysmal. We won't be going back.

Cool vibe - great food!

By BabblesfromBoise |

One of our hotel's bartenders recommended this place for dinner and it didn't disappoint! A bit spendy, a tad bit snooty, but all in all a wonderful experience. Our hotel's bartender told us not to miss the biscuits and the Honey Badger cocktail. Fixe's bartender told us to try the blackened snapper and the steak - both were incredibly yummy!! We sat at the bar and just took in the ambience - it was fun. If you have a few bucks burning a hole in your wallet - check it out!!

Progressive Southern

By RDBAz |

On the recommendation of my niece, who lives in Austin, five of us enjoyed an outstanding meal at Fixe on Sunday. Fixe advertises itself as “Progressive Southern” which accurately represents their food. From the biscuits that we started with through the entrées, nothing disappointed. Probably the only drawback to the evening is it we were all so full that we did not try any of the desserts. The Lobster & Crawfish Pot Pie, Red Grouper & Duroc Pork Shoulder were outstanding, as were three side dishes that we shared. The Charred Broccoli, Anson Mills Antebellum Grits with Quail and especially Smoked Oyster Fried Rice were executed perfectly. The service was smooth and unobtrusive, topping off an outstanding evening with colleagues & friends.

Nice southern style dinner with some fun modern twists

By adalbert3 |

Had a high quality business dinner. Yes, we tried two of the recommended favorites--the Deviled Eggs with smoke trout roe and the Biscuits--both were exceptional. We then shared the Beef Tartare , crispy oysters & cornmeal pancakes as an additional appetizer. I had the Duck Breast as my entree--it was presented beautifully--maybe a little more rare than I prefer, but that was more my ordering, as I asked for medium rare. My guest had the Ribeye--was very pleased. We shared the Brioche Doughnut & honey ice cream--we should have left more room for dessert as we could not finish all of it. What I like most about this restaurant are the little modern additions they incorporate into each dish--like the apple jus, preserved cabbage ragout and smoked seaweeds with the duck.

One of the Best Meals I have ever eaten

By 60763Lovetotravel |

One of the finest restaurants I have ever eaten at. The good was beyond delicious and the service was spectacular. Highly recommend!

Fanciest Deviled Eggs EVER

By 1bike |

Fixe had the Fanciest Deviled Egg I have ever eaten. Everything was fabulous. The drinks, the appetizers, dinners and deserts were all exceptional. The atmosphere is very hip and the service was amazing. The only downside is that it was very loud and made it difficult to carry on a conversation.

. Friendly service, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits

By jesfire415 |

My first impression of this restaurant began with our server Angie. Angie was friendly, knew her product, and made great suggestions. Angie went out of her way to accommodate me on an item that wasn't on the menu. Catfish was not served for brunch on Sunday, but she went and said to her manager that I was an out-of-town guests and a celebrity ( I'm not a celebrity). The catfish was served and it was spicy, fresh and delicious. We ordered a side biscuits. The BEST biscuits I have ever had the pleasure to eat. The biscuits with the whipped butter melt-in-your-mouth beyond delicious. The atmosphere is relax and not pretentious. Hopefully Angie we'll be there for our next visit.

Trendy, Loud and Forgettable

By hi9land3r |

On our recent visit to Austin we ate at Fixe. We chose it since its TA rating was quite high. Austin in known for adventuresome dining and this restaurant is no exception. However, our experience was quite mixed with some good tasting dishes but others somewhere between bad and boring. My steak, while medium rare on the inside, was charred to tastelessness on the outside. The accompanying sauce had zero taste. I can't imagine what they were thinking. My wife's lobster and crawfish pie was okay but nothing to write home about. The salad was underwhelming. The fried chicken our friend had was overly spicy and she removed all the skin off to avoid it. The highlight of the meal was the biscuits. Outstanding. We had to shout to be heard by our friends due to the din of all the larger group tables yelling at each other. Large groups like this place apparently and that creates an environment of constant hoopla. So, we would not suggest this restaurant for couples that like to talk to each other. Oh well it is a trendy and young town of beautiful restaurants like this one where the kids either don't know what good food is or are willing to put up with experiments that often fail in their delivery.

Great Social Time

By weyl-59 |

We followed up on an early morning email about a special happy hour with Empress gin. The cocktails were all special with good snacks. Empress gin comes from Victoria on Vancouver Island -- a very special treat.

Great food and service

By smile4you |

We had a party of five for Mother's Day 2019. We started at the bar, and the bartenders were very knowledgeable about not just the drinks but the menu as well. We were seated and ordered. My niece had been here and knew the items she preferred. The biscuits were good. I am not a big biscuit fan, but as biscuits go I'd say they mastered the recipe. We had the special appetizer of the blue crab and it was fresh and great. I ordered the grouper as my entrée and it was superb. My husband and nephew had the fried chicken. They loved it. I am not complaining, but I don't understand how fried chicken has made it's way into fine dining. I just don't get it. The level of service at this restaurant is excellent. I will go back.

Welcoming southern style place

By Roving2019 |

Welcoming southern style place on W 5th Street. Brunch is themed around the much hyped Fixe biscuit. It’s worthy of the hype. This is not a fancy McMuffin. The biscuits are baked to order. The Standard is an egg, sausage patty and cheddar cheese sandwiched in a split fresh baked biscuit. It doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s a full breakfast. Some hot sauce is provided for dipping or spreading. A side of smoky bacon and the hash brown patty are good adds. The hash brown comes with a spicy aioli. Overall a great brunch spot. Heard dinner is equally good but haven’t tried that yet. Recommended.

Great food, great drinks, great service

By AC39090 |

I had read reviews about the overwhelming noise level in this place, and I can see how that could be an issue at a weekday happy hour. We timed our visit for late Sunday afternoon and could not have been more pleased! Service was gracious and the six food items we tried were excellent. Wish we were going to be in town long enough to try lots more!

Southern food

By hamishmom |

The biscuits are to die for. The service was excellent. The sandwich buns were dry contributing to an uninteresting burger. Very good wine selection, but a little pricey.

5 stars because of how they addressed issues

By dt95 |

Went on Friday night and they were busy. A couple of big groups. Service was good, but took a long time to get food we ordered. About when I was going to call over the manager to discuss - he magically appeared at out table to apologize. Sent over a great appetizer with compliments and even went further to be sure we were happy. BTW - EVERYTHING we had was great. Particularly liked Grouper and Lobster Pot Pie. I did find the wine list at 3x was a bit pricey, but overall satisfied with our experience and did I mention food was great!

Excellent brunch for a group

By NotALostWanderer |

Our group of 9 enjoyed a lovely brunch together at Fixe. Their large table felt very warm and welcoming with nice lighting and great atmosphere. The servers was wonderful, and biscuits were the real deal. Fresh & warm from the oven. mmmm Prices were on the high side, but it's difficult to find a good experience for a table of 8+ where no one is shoved against a wall or left too far out of the conversation, so I will gladly pay extra for a home-like table like theirs.

Southern Sophisticate

By Matt K |

This restaurant totally exceeded my expectations. Outstanding service and food. Unique southern flavors with a Texas flair. The tuna muffuletta was amazing. Steak was fabulous. Sweet potatoes. Heirloom tomatoes. But the biscuits were off the freaking chart. Yes, totally decadent but worth the calories. The wine list was also fantastic. We enjoyed several bottles of Malbec with friends. Only regret was that we were too full for dessert. Check this restaurant out. It’s a Southern sophisticate.

Anniversary dinner

By Shane B |

The ambiance and food were great! It was our first time here and while it was wonderful, it was a little more casual than where we would normally dine for a special occasion. That being said, we loved the biscuit appetizer!! Our main courses were good and my wife enjoyed her specialty cocktails. We would dine here again, on a date night or weekday night out.

Best biscuits!

By kkamikawa |

The decor is very cool. Be sure to notice the rustic screen doors attached to the ceiling. I ordered the fried chicken. The apple cole slaw accompaniment was sweet and refreshing. My husband ordered the pork shoulder and enjoyed it. The chef is from Louisiana and the food has a southern feel to it. I thought it was a little pricey. $100 for 3 people, no drinks or dessert, but great atmosphere. Be sure to order the biscuits. They offer 3 types of butter.

A bit of a wait considering

By Sara Vaughn |

A bit of a wait considering the place is nearly empty at 2 pm but that is the only complaint, but that is why it gets only 4 instead of 5 stars. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious! Everything was well seasoned including southern catfish, cheeseburger, French fries, peel and eat shrimp and the deviled eggs. If we were going to be here longer we would definitely be back.

Southern cuisine done skillfully.

By Hidrfoot01 |

Our family of 8 decided this would be a great 50th anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has a nice cozy vibe. Our table was next to the kitchen which is a show in itself. The chef was present and inspects and garnishes off every dish with his oversized tweezers deftly placing different micro greens on each entree. We started with deviled eggs that had a beautiful presentation & garnish. The smoked trout appetizer was very tasty. Do not pass up the homemade piping hot biscuits with the 3 accompaniments of honey, sausage, and blackberry preserves. So good we had a second order. Some of the family members (5) had the lobster & crawfish pot pie and were ooing & cooing. My sea bass was excellent. The oyster fried rice and the sweet potato casserole were excellent. There is an extensive wine list as well as specialty cocktails.Deserts were beautifully presented with carrot cake and vanilla ice cream with a pretzel, nut topping. Staff came over and printed us with a beautiful anniversary card. It was truly an enjoyable evening.

Good service but pricey and not great food or menu selection

By LovetoTravel99Texas |

I thought the atmosphere was nice and the service was good. Unfortunately, there was practically nothing on the menu that most of us wanted to order (no standard salads, 'normal' healthy choices). Lots of fatty options or things with odd ingredients. I ended up ordering fried chicken (not happily), and it was overcooked, dry and hard. My daughter ordered the same thing and it was the same as mine. The waiter offered us the well-known biscuits, so we ordered 2 plates of them for our group. They were $9 a plate for 3 biscuits, and he offered jelly. We didn't realize it, but the jellies were $1 each, and 3 came on a plate with each plate of biscuits, so 2 plates of biscuits cost $24. We were all surprised by that. Bread is usually free or at least not that expensive. Overall, the dinner was very expensive for a menu that we didn't like and food that wasn't great. I realize it's a southern menu but it would be good to include some healthy options that are a little more standard for people who don't like the odd offerings or breaded items. We will not return.

Awesome tastes

By Brian M |

Restaurant was a little loud but the food was insane, nice wine selection, chefs table was pretty cool too.

Great Biscuits!

By SharmonOBX |

My husband and I met a friend for dinner here on a Thursday evening. The bar and table areas were packed. Noise levels made it hard to have conversation. We had amazing “biscuits” (a Fixe speciality), salads, fried chicken and an absolutely fabulous blackberry cobbler. The chicken consisted of two very small pieces sided with kale. The chicken had a sweet honey taste (too sweet for me). The service was superior. The 3 star rating comes from the “high noise level”, overly priced selections and the less that stellar chicken dish (that’s what Fixe is known for). I don’t think we will be back. There are too many wonderful places to eat in Austin.

Excellent Company dinner party

By Stephanie F |

Absolutely amazed by of course the food, but Chef Adam and his amazing team took great care of our large party and accommodated us in every way! The team truly went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Thank you to our waitress Davina who was a doll, so friendly and personable. Not to mention the biscuits are to DIE FOR!!!!

Excellent food and service.

Excellent atmosphere and food. Had biscuit for appetizer and they melted in my mouth. We both had the Seafood Pot Pie. Delicious. Would definitely eat here again.

Awesome Biscuits

By BPtraveler |

10 of us had what I would call a very nice semi-private dining room. We started with biscuits and everyone agreed they were sensational. We were in Austin 6 nights on business and ate at 6 very good restaurants. The service at Fixe was by far the best. Everyone enjoyed their meals very much.

Another great find!

By mtjllc |

The Austin food scene is well known for its diversity of food. Fixed is a great addition to the scene. Their staff is amazing and well trained on every aspect of the food and drink. The biscuits actually exceeded the staff's descriptions. The devilled eggs were delicious as was the tuna tartare. I had the crispy striped bass which was pan fried. The skin was perfectly crispy - I never eat the skin but I devoured this one. The desserts were incredibly rich and outstanding - the chocolate cake and the carrot cake. Amazing - flavourful and moist! Don't miss this top drawer establishment for business or pleasure.

Wow.........

By Traveler K |

I dont really wow places, but this establishment is a top notch. From the hostess to the server (Angie) to the managers walking back and forth to the busser touch the table numerous times. The videos is great but the food is beyond expectations. You have to try the biscuits (with honey)....I had biscuits all over the place but these are done with extra touch of love :). Their grits selections are amazing, I had the carnivore (Quail) and it was delicious.

Tasty Soutern Cuisine

By Matt L |

Fixe is a wonderful restaurant. The food is very well-prepared, creative, eclectic and tasty. The biscuits are even better than advertised. The pickled shrimp were unique and delicious. We also found the service to be terrific and the atmosphere and surroundings to be lovely. It was a welcome respite from Austin's grittier (but still enjoyable) spots.

Southern indeed

By TalGuy |

Biscuits are good but pricey. Having lived in the south it is pretty legit. Grouper was excellent. Shrimp n grits are on point. Doesn’t feel like downtown ATX inside.

Fabulous Southern Cuisine with Great Service

By RepPatron |

On the recommendation of our concierge (at the Driskill which we also highly recommend), we went to Fixe. Fabulous experience. Great food, attentive service and a fair price. What is not to like. Fried green tomatoes were a recent and great addition to the menu. Biscuits, which most people rave about, totally raveable. Fried chicken had a very unique seasoning mix that worked perfectly with the perfectly fried chicken. Desserts were inventive and terrific. Our waiter, the sommelier, and the busperson were all attentive and Knowledgeable and personable. Loved it and, next time we are in Austin, we will return.

Noise level to make you leave fast

By kmjmmm |

We went to dinner at 7:30 on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was not full. But it was so loud the waiter had to lean down to hear our order and talk about options. I am not hard of hearing but it was difficult to carry on a conversation with two people. We would not go here with friends as we would never be able to visit. The din is such that you do not want to linger and maybe that's the intention. The food was good-very good in fact but if you go out for a meal there needs to also be atmosphere

Outstanding! The biscuits are worth the trip alone. Ask for Jess

By William |

We found this place randomly for a business dinner. No knowledge about it at all. Blow away by the service and food. We thought we were in a Michelin star restaurant. These are the best biscuits I’ve ever had in my life, peach jam, soft light butter. Like a dessert as a starter. It’s a must. Deviled eggs, come on man, you get almost the whole egg. Then the lobster an crawfish pot pie with the homemade crust over the top! Jess was a fantastic waitress. She talked us through the menu and specials. She had great suggestions, and my glass was never empty. I can’t speak well enough of the experience. Wonderful atmosphere an the kitchen is open so you can watch the chiefs do there thing.

Wonderful

By 867charlies |

The bar at Fixe is outstanding. The food is even better! You have to have the biscuits, which are served with some whipped butter, some honey, and bluebuerry preserves! We had the grits with shrimp and grits with quail as appetizers. The lobster and crawfish pot pie was excellent. Wonderful service!

Ohhhh biscuits...❤️

By Vengel |

This restaurant is big and beautiful and I love a great bar which they have ,but the shining star are the biscuits ,and here’s the good news ....you get them on your table with different accompaniments ,I recommend the butter, keep it simple that’s when you know something is fabulous!!! As you re-strain yourself to just eat one or two ,you can order from the extensive and fantastic menu it’s going to be difficult ,I chose the duck and I loved it. Our waiter recommended wine ,none of us had ever heard of or tried and we ordered a second bottle that’s how good it was, he mentioned that they were doing a tasting in the restaurant and this was the one he liked the most and he was right!

Mother’s Day 2019...?

By 12DT |

Celebrated Mother’s Day at Fixe, and we were excited with our decision to try a little fusion of Austin Chic & Southern Flair! The restaurant is nice, and arranged in a way that’s it’s full of people, but cozy at the same time. The bar is very nice, and we quickly made our way there for a drink before dining. Once at the bar(which had only five people, including us) things started to unravel. We had to basically flag down the bartender for service. Now I don’t mean to be pretentious, but I do believe it is pretty obvious when you step up to a bar... take a seat... and look at the bartender, that it would be a good indication that you were there to order a drink. His customer service simply was not appropriate for this caliber of establishment. Then, to top it off, I had to flag him down again for another drink... AND again to close out the tab... (in which he forgot... so yes, I had to ask once again). With no one really at the bar to draw him away from being an attentive server... you could tell that he just didn’t want to be working... and that’s just nuts! The table service started out okay, until I was was not allowed to order one of the side dishes for an appetizer. Again, I’m sorry... if it’s on the menu in my hand, why can’t I order it whenever I want it??? I finally gave up, and ordered two more drinks for my wife and I. Well, over 20 minutes later (yes, it was 23 minutes) the drinks arrived, and we were able to order our entree’s. The food arrived quickly, and they were all delicious. However, the side dishes were not of the same caliber. The biscuits though... now they were over the top delicious! Grandma could take some lessons from this cat, that’s for sure! The dessert (lemon cake) had been prepared early, and was very much like I had just taken it out of my favorite store’s refrigerated section. It looked better than it tasted. It was a weird, hot and cold, kind of dining experience. It was nice to try a new place, and even though the service was a bit on the aggravating side, we will visit again... first for the biscuits... then to see if our first time experience at Fixe was just a fluke. If it’s like this when we come back... We’ll, fool me once... shame on you. Fool me twice... shame on me!🤔

A Great Experience!

Once again we had an amazing dinner due to the chef and our waitress, Jess, who is always very attentive! From start to finish we didn’t want the evening to end and will for sure return soon!

Southern with flare & Biscuits with honey & blueberries

By Olivia M |

The biscuits served with honey and blueberry compote were to die for and the fried chicken was crunchy and spicy and oh so good. Nice atmosphere excellent service and big wine list. All in reasonably priced for a downtown Austin dinner. Definitely will go back.

Noise made conversation impossible

By Tamara N and Erik H |

I heard the food was good. But it was so noisy, I couldn't properly taste it. Had to shout across the table to be heard. The kitchen looked a mess, with servers waiting in line for their orders. The wine prices were terribly inflated and the service indifferent.

Superb brunch!

By thedogColumbia_MO |

Enjoyed several different types of their famous breakfast biscuit sandwiches. My chicken was a little over crispy, but otherwise all wonderful. The decor was gorgeous urban/rural/chic, if that exists. Prettiest ladies room in all of texas, I'm sure. We also had a side of grits for the table. I'm afraid they've citified them a bit too much. Marscapone cheese in GRITS? Really? I think not.

Fair Cuisine. NOT a steakhouse

By Chris_G_2008 |

Online menus reflected Fixe as a steakhouse. It is not. They had two steaks available only. That's not a steakhouse. Fixe is a California restaurant. I say they serve you the vegetables no one wanted to eat as a kid. I ordered the buttermilk chicken and it was clearly buttermilk. Had the taste of buttermilk. If you like that, it's all good. It was fried, yes. But it was not Fried Chicken that any southerner would enjoy eating. If you want California cuisine while is Austinfornia, this is the place. If you want a steak with a baked potato and butter, nope!!

Birthday Dinner for my Wife

By danielsL5001SM |

We had a great experience with both the staff and food being very good. Location was easy to locate with plenty of parking nearby.

Very nice......but loud!!

By Salil G |

Fixe features as one of the 'essential-Austin' restaurants. Making a reservation before heading there is highly recommended. We went there for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant has a great ambiance, nice vibe, and great service. But it gets loud. Really loud. Me and wife could barely hear each other across the table. The menu is rather limited, but the food is absolutely delicious! The southern biscuits are not to be missed, and are served with some whipped Steen butter. Total decadence. For appetizers we had the biscuits, grilled shrimp and deviled eggs (yum!) For main course, we had the halibut and the blackened red snapper. We also had the octopus fried rice which has been one of the best friend rice dishes I've ever tried! I recommend getting that as an appetizer! The restaurant does have a pretty nice happy hour so make sure to check that out! Overall, a very good experience.

Wonderful visit

By Chad H |

I don’t venture into Austin for dinner very often, just too much of a hassle coming in from the suburbs. But after one trip to Fixie, I believe we will make more of an effort. We started at the bar with Liam, who made a great suggestion on the Pinot Noir they serve. Attentive and helpful, Liam was a great host and set the tone for the evening. For an appetizer we had the oyster rice. I am not a fan of oysters, but found this dish very tasty and intriguing. We followed with the man course of fried chicken, the lobster pot pie, and an evening special of Waygu steak. Everything was perfect, very tasty and well plated. Kyle was superb as our waiter. We finished with the peach and blueberry cobbler which finished the evening perfectly. I suggest that you put this restaurant on your to visit list. Wonderful ambiance, great food, and super service make it one I will return to again.

Late Night!

We were looking for a nice dinner downtown and found it at Fixe. Wonderful food and terrific ambiance.

Celebration Dinner

By Martha W |

We had a business dinner at Fixe last Saturday evening 7/21 for 19 people. We worked with Jack Beckett to put everything together. Our evening could not have been better! The wait staff was amazing and the FOOD - the food was spectacular. Our entire group raved about everything that was served. I found it's not easy to find private dining rooms in Austin restaurants, but Fixe has two of them. It helped make our celebration dinner a huge success and we can't wait to go back. Fixe has been one of our favorite restaurants in Austin for several years now and they won't disappoint.

great food great service

By Mike B |

great food..somewhat limited selection. I had the in bone filet. while it was very good and also pricy..it didn't meet my expectation tastewise. I could have had a similar or better taste at any of the steakhouses. it was also noisy to carry a business conversation. very nice staff and excellent service.

Get your “FIXE” of Cajun/Southern here

By gogogoin2010 |

I found FIXE by accident, and I am glad I did. I looked over the menu briefly on an app and it looked good, but when I arrived found more than a good menu. I found great ambiance. The interior of the restaurant has smaller dining areas with open walls, mix matched furnishings and an open kitchen with a vibrant feel ! My party and me were greeted by Taylor at the Hostess station. She was so delightful and helpful and she seated us near the kitchen, I loved it! We were seated in Meagan H’s area; another very helpful and friendly young lady. She had great suggestions of what to try. We started with the “FIXE” biscuits- A MUST TRY! They were served with several YUMMY kinds of spreads. I would swear there was a Grandmother in the kitchen making them! There are so many scrumptious items on the menu it was hard to decide. Some dishes my party ordered were: The Deviled Eggs, Grilled Shrimp, Fried Chicken, and the Duroc Pork Shoulder. For dessert the Cream-filled Brioche Doughnut. (And while we didn’t have it… I would try the Red Beans & Rice… For Dessert!) The “Southern Hospitality” is felt in FIXE from the people to the ambiance to the food. I would DEFINITLY recommend FIXE for your next “Family meal” in Austin

Nice surprise!

By RJessee |

Nice ambiance, great location and good food. My husband had the chops and I had pork shoulder. Both were great!! Sarah helped us a lot with our food selection. I definitely recommend Fixe restaurant

Outstanding place, loved it

By Rafael C |

A southern type restaurant with excellent cuisine, we went during the Austin Formula 1 event, a group of 8 which is harder to handle and we got outstanding service while enjoying excellent food and good rating red wines. I would go back next month, no doubt.

Hot place!

By coughy |

Had dinner with business friends. Service was amazing, could not have been friendlier. Food was very good. A lot of different pairings but everything tasted good. Nice wine list. Really enjoyed being there.

Disappointing, way disappointing!

By Summerasalifestyle |

Greeted and seated quickly. Large space with seating inside with AC or outdoors. Set halfway below street level but not too dark along side the windows. Gets loud in here. Southern food with a modern/ foodie twist. Lots to choose from on menu but appetizers really sparked my interest. A little pricey. Fried green tomatoes: I've never had them...I guess they were okay. I wouldn't order again. Biscuits: Tasty.biscuit and sweet butter. little bowl of honey. Bowls of honey are hard to use. Jacks salad: Boring! It's simply a side salad with dressing. I wouldn't order again. Espresso-yes No dessert: I was afraid to be disappointed again! Totally underwhelming and disappointing.

Biscuits to die for and the best southern iced tea ever!

By nwmindra |

As visitors from outside the US we were invited by friends living in Austin, to Fixe, to experience great southern food and hospitality. I have to say that Fixe really hit the spot for me on a couple of notes - although it missed on a couple of others. First and foremost, I just love love love iced tea, and what I was served here (picture attached) was undoubtedly, unequivocally, the best in class. On another note, I'm a real sucker for southern biscuits - and again, what was served here was just so so good. A real surprise was the deviled eggs. I thought this dish went out in the 70s, but these were excellent. Perhaps I was just maxxed out after this but the fried chicken and fried fish were a bit of a let down. They were so fried that there was just no taste left. Anyway, honestly, I could not begrudge Fixe anything as I enjoyed the biscuits and iced tea so much. And the service was par excellence!

Texas Gourmet

By Cindy H |

Wow! What a great place to dine, great wine list, knowledgeable wait staff, and the FOOD! Didn't think I'd ever order biscuits as an appetizer but at the suggestion of our waitress we did, and they were unlike any I've ever had. I wanted to make my whole dinner Biscuits! But -The deviled eggs, steak tartare, catfish bites, scorched broccoli , grits (made with mascarpone ,3 types) , Blackened Snapper (main course). Go to this Place while in Austin

Indeed, very nice surprise! :)

By Mela_World |

Looking from outside I was a bit skeptical, but inside ... very nice place! Great service, very helpful and patient even if you have hundreds of different questions. Very tasty food. I had fish and It was really great. Plus the Texas/local biscuits, yummy! Very good place both for romantic dinner, as well as friends, family and business meetings.

Southern Style Restaurant

Nice open atmosphere with kitchen & tables. Food was good. We had biscuits and deviled eggs for appetizer and halibut for dinner. Halibut had good flavor. 4 out 5.

Upscale Eatery, Complex phenomenal taste!

By shampton0193 |

My husband surprised me with a date night at Fixe last night. We had an array of different dishes, all of which were phenomenal. Each dish is filled with yummy, complex flavors, you can really tell the kitchen cares a lot about the product they put out. What we had - Deviled Eggs - Great presentation, very yummy Smoked Trout Dip - My husband loved this so much, he skipped the crackers and ate his first and last bites with a spoon. (I can’t take him anywhere, ha!!) Beet Salad - Light, airy, complex, amazing Fixe Biscuits - YOU HAVE TO ORDER THE BISCUITS! Sounding like a broken record with all of the other reviews, but truly THE BEST biscuits I’ve ever had in my entire life. For dinner we ordered the Lobster & Crawfish Pot, Brussels sprouts, and the Texas Red Fish. The Lobster & Crawfish Pot would have been huge for me, but perfect for my husband! Filled to the brim with scrumptious lobster + crawfish. I got a few bites and, like everything else we tried, really yummy. The Brussels sprouts were delish!! No plain and boring veggies here! Definitely recommend as a side. Lastly, I had the Texas Red Fish and can only sum it up as TO DIE FOR. If I had to pick a last meal - this might just be it. Arguably the best fish I’ve had in my entire life (my husband said the same). But wait, there’s more, you HAVE to save room for desert. We felt like we were going to pop or have to pull up a booth for a nap, but we did it anyway. Blackberry cobbler with sorbet. OH.MY.SWEET.HEAVEN. Aside from all of the amazing food the staff was super friendly and made you feel right at home! 12/10 experience. Shout out to Donnie (our waiter) probably the friendliest person in Austin. He not only gave us his recommendations but went in depth as to WHY with describing the complexity of each dish. We definitely look forward to visiting again! Thank you Fixe staff for your hospitality and the wonderful night out! Also - they make a pretty mean lemon drop martini!

Great Atmosphere & Brunch on a Saturday

By LauraW |

Stopped in looking for a brunch menu and so glad we did! We sat in the lounge area and had great service. We ordered the pimento cheese with focaccia bread. It was excellent! The bread was the best focaccia I've had, it was perfect. Had the biscuit sandwich with fried chicken with honey and an apple and kale slaw on it. The biscuit sandwich was very tasty! Another in our party had the shrimp and grits and it was great as well! Shrimp seasoned AMD cooked perfectly, as were the grits. Prices reasonable for the food, and I'd say typical for the cocktails. Very nice atmosphere and fun decor! Would recommend!

Get Your Fixe

By Jetjouster |

It takes quite a bit to impress me as far as food, presentation and service go. Fixe was totally unexpected. Very wonderfully decorated. We were seated promptly just before our reservation time. We ordered up a couple Sazeracs. Simple and elegantly perfect. Galilee was our server. I say this, because it really takes a level of service to get my attention. She has it. When asked if a kitchen staff could come to the table for some questions about my seared duck I had ordered, she described in detail every level of the dish. At the end of her explanation I found myself shaking my head in disbelief that she knew so much about what went into this dish. BTW, which was perfect. I could have had a large bowl of just the pickled cabbage and confit with au jus. My co-diner had the lobster and crawfish pot pie. "Absolutely Delicious". The gentleman next to us had the Tomahawk Ribeye. "Excellently seasoned and cooked". And it was massive. My co-diner's dessert was the Brioche Doughnut. I can not even begin to describe this plate. It would take someone the better part of an afternoon just to assemble all the different ingredients for this one plate. Trust me, it's enough to share. And something that was very noticeable. Seated in the dining area, some feet from the open kitchen; you could carry on a quiet conversation and when watching them prep and prepare the dishes, one thing you noticed, it was very quiet. No ceramic banging against stainless steel, not one dish or pan dropped that you could hear. This was simply amazing how quiet it was back there. We came away from Fixe with hoping we get back to Austin very soon. Between the excellent cocktails, wonderful food and stunning service that Galilee provided, it's easy to say, they have their Fixe in on us. Try it, you'll see why.

Amazing Food! We dined at Fixe five out of eight days in Austin! Incredible Service!

By Schoolsafety |

Fixe One word "Amazing". The Owner/President, Service Staff Manager, Chef, Bartenders, Wait Staff, and Bus Staff treat you like Family. We started at the bar. Happy Hour pricing is too good to be true: Cakebread Chardonnay, Bel Glos Alturas Pinot Noir, and Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon for $9/glass. Liam & Megan are amazing bartenders. I had the Negroni which Liam makes homemade cardamom bitters. Julie had her new favorite wine, Raptor Ridge Pinot Gris. On this particular dinner, we asked for Tammy, our favorite server. She is a special lady. Her attention to detail, wonderful personality, and interaction with customers is second to none. Our wonder meal started with the following: Fixe Biscuits served with whipped Steen's butter and blueberry orange peel marmalade. They are the best biscuits I have every eaten. A must have! Deviled Eggs, fermented cabbage, smoked trout roe, grated ham. Chef perfectly balanced these scrumptious eggs. Anson Mills Antebellum Grits. Perfect! Charred Broccoli, smoked Apache bleu cheese fondue, meyer lemon. Smokey flavor from the char and a tangy bleu cheese. We loved every bite! For Dinner: Our youngest diner had the House Burger, which she only ate half since Jack (Service Manager) and Tammy told her that they were making a special dessert. They only told her! Thanks for making her feel special. Julie had the Lobster & Crawfish Pot Pie, Main Lobster, Louisiana crawfish, mushrooms, sweet corn béchamel. Deliciously rich. Share this one! Our other guest had the Duck Breast, duck and preserved cabbage ragout, smoked seaweeds, apple jus. I did not try it, but she said it was awesome. I had the Heritage Pork Chop, smoked & grilled, braised collards, bacon jam, Fixe barrel-aged old fashion sauce. The Chop was perfectly cooked, juicy, and a great smoke flavor. The collards were amazing with the bacon jam & sauce. Dessert: The special dessert was a homemade chocolate chip cookie with house made ice cream, with crispy cookie bits on top. Keep this on the menu! Our favorite dessert of the entire trip: Brioche Donut, vanilla bean custard, sunflower seed streusel, preserved fruit, honey ice cream. It was like a crème brulee donut...simply amazing. We were sad to leave Fixe. Hugs with the staff. I would not eat anywhere else in Austin. Thanks to the Entire Staff! We were in Austin Eight Days and dined at Fixe on Five occasions. 5 out of 5 Stars

Great service and a very nice place - Really good, upscale food, too!

By Pam B |

We came here for dinner for a birthday and were very impressed with the food and the service. The ambience is very nice. There's an outdoor patio as well as indoor seating. We would love to come back.

Excellent dinner

By Steves_Rickshaw |

Service was excellent and the food even better. You MUST order the biscuits! We also split a fried chicken and a side. It was more than enough food for two, especially if you want to save any room for desert, which we rarely do but so worth it.

One of the best restaurants in Austin, TX

The food and drinks are out of this world! Try the mini pumpkin entree’s! The staff is wonderful. Been here multiple times. One of the best restaurants in Austin!

Eating Our Way Through Austin - American

By BG_STL |

Visited in Dec for a quick getaway. On recommendation by a friend, reserved a table at Fixe. Overall, an ok experience. The room was attractive, but very, very loud. Service and server were outstanding. If you go, gotta get the biscuits. Take em home, they're good re-warmed. No appetizer tonight. I ordered the fried chicken and my wife, a seafood special. Food was good, but not great. All in all, experience was favorable, but not one of the better on our trip.

Interesting

By Tswdfm |

This is upscale southern cuisine (with upscale prices). The menu is fairly small. Everything was really nicely prepared and presented. I had the pork shoulder. Very moist and tender. It was served with greens and beans. My wife had the fried chicken. It was tasty. My only suggestions for the owner are to expand the choices.

Biscuits, beans steak, all great

By Tourist44977889985 |

This was upscale, but wonderfully basic. Steak, biscuits, salad, cowboy beans, and great cocktails and desserts.

Sunday Brunch

By Hoyaken |

Walked to Fixe from the JW Marriott on a very hot Sunday afternoon in June. Of course, we started with the biscuits. They came with four toppings- butter, blueberry jam, andouille paste and honey. All were good. Try combinations. We then had the eggs benedict and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were the better of the two. Recommended.

A step above

By Anita I |

We headed to Fixe for Sunday brunch at the recommendation of our concierge. Great decision, it was an experience. Great ambiance, fantastic service and the biscuits lived up to the hype. I don't typically eat carbs, but couldn't resist!!! Honey butter was delicious, as was the gravy.

Romantic and delish!

By SariMichele |

Great atmosphere and great service. The food was delicious, best biscuit I ever ate in my life! Salads delish, fried chicken was perfect, crispy and not greasy, and pork chop tender, flavorful and also delish! Good wine list and pretty bar!

Excellent dinner with creative sharing

By ahslian |

A group of four of my colleagues and I found the restaurant and enjoyed an excellent time. We ended up ordering a smattering of appetizers and only a couple mains in a sharing style meal which worked out great to try out more dishes. The biscuits were heavenly, but overall the modern twists on southern food were great. I’d definitely recommend.

Enjoyable

By RWG2020 |

It’s been a couple of years since we had dinner at Fixe and our first impression was confirmed- good food, nice wine list and a lively vibe. The biscuits are always good and the lobster and crayfish pot pie outstanding. The grits were perfect and the service attentive but not overwhelming. We still wish that there was more soundproofing to quite the Resturant down a bit, but as we were there on a Tuesday night the noise level was ok.

Mostly Very Good

By eppikureeus |

Everything about my experience at Fixe, from the greeting to the ambiance, to the cleanliness to the service was very good... Except, unfortunately, my entree. Appetizers were excellent: biscuits were delectable, as were the condiments, especially the andouille pate; deviled eggs were probably the best I've ever had; fried green tomatoes and Ahi Tuna Muffuletta were both very good. Unfortunately, I ordered the Lobster & Crawfish Pot Pie instead of one of the mouthwatering steaks my colleagues ordered. The pot pie was nondescript in every way - not particularly flavorful, run-of-the-mill crust and incredibly skimpy on both lobster and crawfish, there could not have been even two ounces of the namesake protein in the dish. That was a distinct disappointment.

Great restaurant

By L C |

Visiting Austin and tried this restaurant. Great food & service. I wasn't very hungry so had the beet salad which was great.

Restaurant with claims of a southern twist

By Diane C |

First, service was second to none, You could not ask for better service. Food was good but I didn't find it more like "southern" cooking as they claimed other than the biscuits.

Cool vibe

By Kay C |

Ate here for brunch with our LHS before we left town. Food was great and service excellence. Cool decor. Plenty of areas to have private rooms or private dining. Will definitely come back.

Something more than the ordinary

By Tracy K |

I ate at Fixe with a group of business associates on a Friday night. I’m not sure we could have gotten in without a reservation. The place was absolutely packed, but their hostess was very efficient and friendly. When I told her that I was afraid that we had fewer than what I had originally made the reservation for, it did not phase her. She was as kind as could be and told me to just let me know when all of our party had arrived. Once they arrived, we were seated immediately. The only negative about this place was that it was packed and the noise level was through the roof. While there were only 5 at our table, it was very hard to visit because it was so noisy. However, the service and the food was so wonderful, that was easy to forgive. Whatever you do, order the biscuits and be sure to order multiples if there are 4+ at your table. This were legit the best biscuits I have ever eaten. Ever! Many of the dishes were perfect for sharing and every single thing we had was flavorful and fabulous! If you do order off the wine menu, you might want to check the prices. We were a bit surprised to find that our wine that we told the waitress to choose for us ended up being $25 per glass. Probably a bit more than we would have ordered, but again, it was fabulous, so I guess you get what you pay for. When I’m back in Austin, I will definitely be back!
